- 0:01Mizrahi inspiration sheer #8 When you hear the term love.
- 0:07Relationship, connection, what level of depth does that word
- 0:11suggest to you? Says Ralph Cook.
- 0:14When we use the expression ahava love, we need to distinguish it
- 0:19from platonic love, which is a love which has no real
- 0:22attachment. True ahava True love is a
- 0:25relationship of sympathy, affection and friendship.
- 0:28True hava necessitates a great interest in the welfare of the
- 0:32loved 1A genuine interest in concern that the person feels
- 0:36good, that the beloved be healthy in spirit and in body,
- 0:40that he reach ethical and spiritual sanctification.
- 0:44The love of mankind needs to reach a great exalted level to a
- 0:48sublime yearning that there be no ethical poverty that is not
- 0:53fake. It's not lip service to a
- 0:56concept that it's genuine and real.
- 0:58True love seeks to advance people's spiritual and material
- 1:02well-being. So to what extent do you really
- 1:05want the other person to succeed?
- 1:06Do you care for the because society demands we say certain
- 1:11things act in a certain way or do you really want them to every
- 1:15good fortune possible? And that is true for Jew and for
- 1:21non Jew. Now, within the context of love,
- 1:23there does exist a small place for hatred as it's written
- 1:28Valamalshinim Altahitikva. We say it three times a day in
- 1:31the Amida prayer for the informers that there be no hope.
- 1:34May all of your enemies be swiftly cut off, but one must
- 1:38understand that the hatred must be directed only against the
- 1:41evil and not simply against your indiscriminately chosen
- 1:48adversaries. There's a precept of the Torah
- 1:51to love your neighbor, that there's no precept in the Torah
- 1:53to hate anybody, especially hate people who are not about our
- 1:57faith. Hatred is only on the evilness
- 2:00and ugliness in the world, as it said, and all the wickedness
- 2:05ends like smoke. We call how Risha catashantika.
- 2:11We say it Roshani yam kepa. All the wickedness should just
- 2:14end. All of it just fly away.
- 2:18In every place where we find references of hatred, such rough
- 2:20cook, we understand clearly that the intent is only against the
- 2:23phenomenon of evil, against the impurity of evil, and not simply
- 2:28against people. It's wickedness, not the wicked
- 2:31ones. The concept of wrong is what we
- 2:34want to be, to have finished in the world, not people.
- 2:38To to be hurt or die or get or disappear.
- 2:43There are different versions of this wording of the Brock and
- 2:46the Amida prach, different nusrats.
- 2:49May all of the blasphemers be instantly destroyed and all of
- 2:52the wicked be instantly destroyed.
- 2:54What is the difference? Two different texts, different
- 2:56tradition, Ashkenaars the 3rd. So one version is may all
- 3:01wickedness be instantly destroyed.
- 3:05This is to be directed to our present situation in our time,
- 3:08when the national aspirations of the nations are united with
- 3:11forces of evil to the point of inciting wars.
- 3:15The intent of the hatred is only against the evilness which
- 3:19disrupts the unity of all nations.
- 3:24Let's end by coming back to something that's fundamental
- 3:26about our people and our national purpose.
- 3:29The task of the Jewish nation is to lead the world to its optimal
- 3:33development to the perfection of all of creation.
- 3:36Out of this perfection, everything in creation will act
- 3:39to bring honor and glory to Hashem, the spirit of idealism,
- 3:44to bring goodness and perfection to the world by uplifting
- 3:46everybody. And so everyone recognizes
- 3:49Hashem is embodied in the very essence of who our people are.
- 3:55And when does all this happen? Our vital role comes to life
- 3:58when the nation of Israel returns to its land, when it
- 4:01returns to being a sovereign nation alongside all of the
- 4:04other nations. Only then can it perform its
- 4:06intended task of raising all of mankind to the knowledge and
- 4:10service of Hashem, the true goal and the purpose of all
- 4:14creations. We are living in such times
- 4:16where it's possible, but we first need to work on our love
- 4:20of all mankind, and we need to understand the hatred of
- 4:23evilness, not of any particular individual or groups of people.
- 4:28My friends have a wonderful day.
