- 0:58This is Scott Becker with the Beckers Healthcare
- 1:02Podcast,
- 1:03and these are seven stories that we're following
- 1:05today that help to tell the picture and
- 1:07story of what's happening in health care. And
- 1:10thank you for listening.
- 1:12The first two stories deal with nurses and
- 1:15strikes in union activity,
- 1:17and we see a lot of that throughout
- 1:18the health care ecosystem.
- 1:20The first thing is 30,000
- 1:22Kaiser Permanente nurses give strike notice.
- 1:26This creates tremendous stress for systems,
- 1:29and, obviously,
- 1:30the nurses feel like they've got a very
- 1:31good point as well.
- 1:34Second, on the same lines, New York City
- 1:36nurses strike enters day four. This was a
- 1:39couple days ago at the time we listened
- 1:40to this. So we'll see how that's moving
- 1:42forward. But, again, a sign of the times
- 1:44is the challenges with margins and challenges in
- 1:47health care.
- 1:48So nobody really winning, health system struggling, and
- 1:51and nurses upset about paying compensation.
- 1:54The third story we're following is and what
- 1:57Jefferies at Becker's Health Care outlines
- 1:59the biggest IT risks facing health systems 2026.
- 2:03This continues to be a hot button issue
- 2:06throughout health care.
- 2:08The fourth story we're following today,
- 2:10Sutter Health breaks ground on a 380,000,000
- 2:14cancer center.
- 2:15Increasingly health systems are putting their money and
- 2:18dollars
- 2:19back into the biggest specialties
- 2:21that are both very important and also drive
- 2:24revenues and profits. So we're seeing more and
- 2:26more building
- 2:27around cancer centers,
- 2:28orthopedics,
- 2:29cardiovascular,
- 2:31and, again, cardiology
- 2:32and oncology,
- 2:34cancer and heart disease remain the two biggest
- 2:37killers, the two highest mortality rates in the
- 2:39country.
- 2:41And and not surprisingly, they're also big dollar
- 2:43specialties, so we see more and more health
- 2:45systems like Sutter Health putting money into orthopedics,
- 2:48oncology, and and cardiovascular.
- 2:51Fifth story we're following today, story of a
- 2:54rural hospital in Washington
- 2:56that's on a road map to recovery, one
- 2:58that had been close to closure, trying to
- 3:00get better and better.
- 3:01That's the East Adams Rural Hospital, and a
- 3:04constant challenge out there for rural and smaller
- 3:06health systems. They're working hard to get themselves
- 3:09back in the right spot. That's,
- 3:11this story that we're following today.
- 3:13Sixth story, a sign of the times,
- 3:16more and more focus on physician leadership and
- 3:18physician executives.
- 3:19University of Miami Medicine
- 3:22starts to offer a physician only executive education
- 3:25program.
- 3:25Facing to see this focus on great physician
- 3:28leaders.
- 3:29And finally, a seventh story that we're following
- 3:31today,
- 3:33great leadership at a hospital in New Mexico
- 3:35where they've built out a physician first culture
- 3:38that's driving workforce wins at their hospital.
- 3:41And this deals with the Three Crosses Regional
- 3:43Hospital in New Mexico. And, again, fascinating to
- 3:46see the work done by leadership there, doctor
- 3:49Mohammed Khan, and more
- 3:51are
- 3:52trying to focus on physician leadership and a
- 3:55great culture for physicians.
- 3:57Again, these are seven stories that we're following
- 3:59today at Becker's Healthcare. We hope you find
- 4:01this helpful, and we are so thankful for
- 4:02you listening to the Becker's Healthcare podcast. Thank
- 4:05you very, very much.
