- 0:01All right, Barbara. Bound Bound Banger Management
- 0:04Fantasy Hockey podcast. Woo woo woo.
- 0:08Sorry, I got excited. Usually I'm the one with the
- 0:11crazy woos. I know it's hard.
- 0:14It's our first episode of The Summer Guys.
- 0:18Wait we did have an episode is true after the Stanley Cup
- 0:22playoffs this is our first episode.
- 0:24That's crazy. I literally forgot we didn't
- 0:27even talk about the Florida Panthers going back-to-back.
- 0:32Yeah, I don't even want to talk about it.
- 0:34They're such a wagon, like they're so good.
- 0:37It's. It's, you know.
- 0:38Sad. I mean, I really.
- 0:39Who was undefeated against Florida last season?
- 0:42Who Who? Josh who?
- 0:44You're Montreal Canadians. Let's go.
- 0:49Nice, that sounds like cool. Nice.
- 0:52Because we actually made the playoffs last year.
- 0:54That's crazy if you only got better.
- 0:57Yeah, I feel we're just so used to being at the bottom of the
- 0:59table and the fact that we made the playoffs is wack.
- 1:03Like it didn't even register to me until right now.
- 1:06Yeah, honestly, that was awesome.
- 1:08I mean, it was a disappointing playoffs for us, but the fact
- 1:11that we were there at all was awesome.
- 1:13I mean, we're going to be better this year.
- 1:15I think so too. I mean, we just got way better.
- 1:17But anyway, we're getting off topic already, so.
- 1:20It's it's a nice segue. It's a nice segue, is it not?
- 1:23Everyone who's listening span like us.
- 1:26In the Habs did make some pretty nice offseason acquisitions,
- 1:31which brings us to the topic of today's episode.
- 1:35We're gonna be going over the top 10 acquisitions by the NHL
- 1:39teams over the summer since the offseason basically, and
- 1:44effectively there's gonna be part one of our top 10.
- 1:47So we're gonna go over 5 of them today.
- 1:49No particular order, some bigger than others, of course, but it's
- 1:52going to be really cool to see these new players on their new
- 1:56teams and the fantasy fact that they're gonna have this season.
- 1:59As always, you could find the link to our socials in the
- 2:02podcast description. And don't forget to follow us on
- 2:05Spotify, Apple Podcast, wherever you get your podcasts so we can
- 2:09help you throughout the fantasy season.
- 2:11Without further ado, Josh, why don't you start us off with our
- 2:14first big offseason acquisition? Yeah.
- 2:17And just to be clear, today we're only talking about trades
- 2:20and then next week we're going to be diving into a free agent
- 2:22signings. So this is specifically top 10
- 2:25traits of. The Office, Yeah, Top 10.
- 2:26Traffic. We're doing top 10 that there is
- 2:29no specific order. I mean, the first we're going to
- 2:31talk about is probably the big, the big blockbuster, but no
- 2:35specific order for this top ten. And this is gonna be Part 1.
- 2:39So we're gonna talk about first five today and then next episode
- 2:42we'll get the next 5. And this is also the first part
- 2:46of the offseason content you're gonna get from us.
- 2:48As of right now, I feel like you can expect almost some weekly
- 2:51content and we'll start doing all that short form content and
- 2:54stuff too, so stay tuned. Yeah, a lot of exciting stuff to
- 2:57come, but let's dive in. Trade number one, which we said,
- 3:00no particular order, but this is clearly the biggest trade of the
- 3:03offseason. Vegas Golden Knights acquire
- 3:06forward Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs for forward
- 3:08Nicwa. And if you didn't know any of
- 3:11the background, this would seem like the most insanely lopsided
- 3:13trade ever. But obviously Mariner.
- 3:16Was looking at was. Not the goat.
- 3:21And. I'm thinking this is going to be
- 3:23known as the Nick Wade trade moving forward.
- 3:27I think that's what a Toronto fans are praying for.
- 3:29Also to note, Vegas then signed Marner to an 8 by 12 million
- 3:33contract. Huge.
- 3:35Yeah. Did you guys expect more money?
- 3:38Um, I think that's pretty reasonable.
- 3:41I don't think Toronto was offering him that.
- 3:44I mean, I think Toronto just didn't want to sign him unless
- 3:46he took a discount. Yeah, because they basically
- 3:49wanted him out. So if they were like well keep
- 3:51you if you like, take less money.
- 3:53So I mean he shouldn't take less money.
- 3:55To be fair. No, I should really get a miss
- 3:57him. Yeah, no, they're gonna miss him
- 3:59a lot. And so let's discuss some
- 4:01different fantasy impacts of this trade.
- 4:04So we'll start with the Golden Boy, the the main character of
- 4:08this trade, Nicwa. I do exactly where you're going
- 4:13with that. Yeah, nice, nice.
- 4:17Now we'll talk about Mitch Marner and how this is going to
- 4:20affect his fantasy value for next year.
- 4:22So in my opinion, I mean, also fact, Martin is already an elite
- 4:26100 plus point player. I don't see his value changing
- 4:29that much. He's going from playing with an
- 4:31elite player in Matthews to an elite player in Eichel.
- 4:33And I'd say there's actually a big bonus for Mariners that he
- 4:35gets to escape the Leafs media and the Leafs fans who hated him
- 4:38so much. So that can give him a big
- 4:39boost. You know, when you're feeling
- 4:41mentally better, you can do even better on the ice.
- 4:43So that's all. I don't see much big changes for
- 4:45Marner. I mean, let me put it this way.
- 4:50I was going to say, I feel like the situation on paper is, is
- 4:53similar. But if I'm just thinking going
- 4:56at the drafts next year, I got Marner in, we're in a pretty
- 5:01deep league, right? So our league is very
- 5:02competitive, very deep. I got him at like closer to 212
- 5:05last year. So I think this immediately
- 5:08bumps him up just over like name value and potential points
- 5:12increase. I think the market suits him
- 5:14more outside of like the pressure of Toronto.
- 5:18But I just feel like it's always risky when you have somebody
- 5:20that's has such a high ceiling like Marner and what we're used
- 5:23to him doing. When you change the situation, I
- 5:26personally always get a little bit scared.
- 5:28And I don't know, I just feel like when I'm in the draft
- 5:32making a decision between Marner and somebody else, I feel like
- 5:35I'd feel safer picking somebody else just because they're not
- 5:40going to be on a new team with, you know, new expectations and
- 5:43potentially new. I don't know, might just be
- 5:47different for him. Maybe have 100 points.
- 5:48He's like really good on ice and he hits like 85 points or
- 5:52something or 90 points. I mean, that's pretty low.
- 5:54I'm shooting. I'm shooting low, obviously, but
- 5:56I don't know. I'm just a little bit scared
- 5:57that we're not going to get the money that we're used to
- 5:59getting. And he still is great for hockey
- 6:02and NHL, but like maybe a little less good for fantasy.
- 6:06I agree totally, though the one thing I'll say is that he's not
- 6:10the guy on the Leafs. Like it's not like they built a
- 6:14he's a superstar, but they didn't build around his
- 6:18superstardom, if you will. Like it was really revolved
- 6:20around Matthews and Marner had I guess, like a little bit more of
- 6:24a role than like a Nielander. But still there were so many
- 6:28superstars on the Leafs like those three and then to virus
- 6:32that I mean, I think that he's already gotten used to being
- 6:36kind of like a second dear incredible player.
- 6:39So I think that he'll actually complement Eichel quite well.
- 6:42Where I think this is interesting is that Stone who
- 6:45was really good this year. I think his value takes quite
- 6:48the dive because they're both right wings and then he's an
- 6:52amazing player himself, but he's not Marner good.
- 6:54So I think that Stones value is going to go down and I really
- 6:57like whoever is going to play on that left wing of course with
- 7:00Eichel and Marner. So chances Stone gets bumped,
- 7:04stays on line one with iCal and Marner plays line 2 with whoever
- 7:07else turtle. That's not a bad sentiment
- 7:10either. Like they could easily just be
- 7:11like, yeah, Marr play with her. Like we like what we have with
- 7:13Eichel and Stone and the chemistry they already have.
- 7:16I'd be possible, very surprised. It's definitely possible, but
- 7:19like, I don't know, you don't pay a guy 8 by 12 to put him on
- 7:22your second line. In my opinion.
- 7:24I always follow the I always follow the the salary and the
- 7:27contract. And also stone is like he's the
- 7:30captain and he's like a role player guy.
- 7:32You know, he's not the type of guy who like needs to be line 1
- 7:34to have a big impact. He can be line 2.
- 7:36He'll still be power play 1 and he's also like a solid like on
- 7:40the PK and stuff like that. So I don't know, I'd be very
- 7:42surprised if they don't at least try cycle with Marner.
- 7:45I mean, if they try them and then the chemistry is not there,
- 7:48then I could see them flipping stone back there.
- 7:49But I'd be very surprised if the season doesn't start with the
- 7:52Mariner and Michael together. Yeah, but all All in all, I feel
- 7:55like this is obviously really, really good for Marner.
- 7:57And like all the potential landing spots that he had.
- 8:00Vegas is probably one of the more exciting ones.
- 8:02So for his fantasy value, like he's still gonna be a super high
- 8:05draft pick. I wouldn't be completely
- 8:07deterred. Like I know I said, like, you
- 8:08know, if push came to shove and I had other options like give me
- 8:12like Marner, like Jack Hughes, who who are you taking?
- 8:16That's a good one. Actually, I'll take I'll take
- 8:17Hughes because of the shots on goal.
- 8:19Yeah, the shots and we know what we're expecting from Hughes,
- 8:22even though obviously he's pretty injury prone.
- 8:24Yeah, like who? Who's a who's 100 point guy that
- 8:27you'd be? I get what you're saying though
- 8:29with like the it's always scary when someone's in a change of
- 8:32scenery, you know? I mean.
- 8:33Obviously like what to expect. He can be like, like he could be
- 8:36like a rant and you know what I mean?
- 8:37Like that's exactly it. Like obviously the difference
- 8:39there is that like a SJ had mentioned this like last season
- 8:42with Rantanen where it's specifically mid season trades
- 8:45where they have the they take the biggest hit.
- 8:47You know, so at least this is an offseason.
- 8:48Trades have the whole summer to, you know, train together, get
- 8:51used to the systems, whatever. But at the end of the day, you
- 8:53know, look how look at Nashville last year, right?
- 8:55They got a bunch of these name free agents to come.
- 8:57They had a whole summer to prepare together and they were
- 8:59garbage. So obviously none of them were
- 9:00Marner level good. But people were pretty hype
- 9:03about the signings in Nashville. You know, there was Stamkos,
- 9:05Marshall, Soche. Yeah.
- 9:06Exactly so older obviously too so.
- 9:09Yeah. Definitely changes a little bit.
- 9:11Yeah, but. Yeah, first next year Marner or
- 9:14Panarin. I would take Warner, yeah.
- 9:18OK, Marner or Matthew Kuchuk. I'm actually I'm I'm saving this
- 9:22for we're gonna will eventually do a players to avoid episode
- 9:27and is very high on my list. I think he's gonna get offseason
- 9:30surgery. He might be out for like the
- 9:32first half of the season. Alright, well, that's that's
- 9:34different. Jason, if he's missing that much
- 9:35time, obviously he's not gonna be in the conversation, but.
- 9:37Like even if he gets off the surgery and then comes back,
- 9:39like that's someone out. Yeah, I'll take Martin over
- 9:42Nylander. OK, so are you taking over
- 9:44Hellebuyck like first? You're asking.
- 9:47You're asking, I think. This is like a yeah, but that's
- 9:51also like a totally league specific thing, like I feel.
- 9:54For us rather Marner would never get held back on my team so I'm
- 9:57not thinking goalie earlier than like the 15 lbs so.
- 10:00Nevertheless, I just wanted we'll move on to the next one.
- 10:04Soon I just wanna rent an ad. OK, that one's lost.
- 10:09Really. Over random?
- 10:11Yeah. You guys hated Rantanen?
- 10:13Like I know, but I thought you like Brandon.
- 10:15I do, but I am really hyped about this Mary Golden Knights
- 10:18thing. So then reference to the second
- 10:19round probably. I'd expect him to, yeah.
- 10:23Other I think Marner's gonna be late 1st and.
- 10:26Yeah, Miner's late 1st, early 2nd.
- 10:28Day lost 1 Miner JT. I would take very banger that's
- 10:32very least specific. Right in the banger League
- 10:35banger. League, I think I'm taking JT.
- 10:37I think he's so he I think he might be super underrated after
- 10:40how like rough his last like he was last year that he's he's one
- 10:44of my guys that I'm like looking for a bounce back.
- 10:47I really think that this tremendously boost cycles value
- 10:49though. Like that's one thing that.
- 10:52We were segmenting this. So that was, yeah, discussing
- 10:54Mariner specifically. Now let's discuss how it'll
- 10:56affect other Golden Knights on the team.
- 10:58So yeah, so Jake were talking about Michael.
- 11:00Would be. Huge second round for sure.
- 11:02He'd middle. Second round I would.
- 11:04In a bangers league with faceoffs, I would take over
- 11:07Marner. I could see going first round.
- 11:09Yeah, iCal is the centerpiece on that team and he's never really
- 11:13like, yes, Sam Reinhart, but Buffalo just did not, could not
- 11:16get it together so. Really.
- 11:19The farm team for the rest of the NHL.
- 11:22And they always will be. But at this point, I think I'd
- 11:27like echoes gonna have an amazing year.
- 11:29Like he was already so good and now you're adding like Marner,
- 11:32who's brought really good production out of Matthews for
- 11:35the whole time they played together.
- 11:37So I'm really excited for him. I also want to kind of look at
- 11:40the leaves because obviously the exciting part of it.
- 11:43We joked that Nick law trade but no this is there is some.
- 11:47Person like before we move to the leaves, I wanna say for the
- 11:50Golden Knights, other than Ikel, there was like we mentioned,
- 11:54whoever is gonna play line one, assuming medical and Martina are
- 11:56there, it's gonna be either Barbashev or Dorfen V on that
- 11:59line ones, whichever one of them gets it.
- 12:01That's huge, right? For even strength And then for
- 12:04power play one. What's really interesting is
- 12:05you've got your locks. It's gonna be Ichel, Marner,
- 12:07Theodore and Stone. But that last spot, is it going
- 12:11to be Hurdle or is it gonna be Durfey of that keeps that power
- 12:13play? One spot which everyone gets
- 12:15bumped off is losing a ton of value.
- 12:16Yeah, I mean, we don't have to guess right now because come
- 12:19season we'll have a better idea of like, you know, how the line
- 12:22rushes look and everything, but never does keep that spot.
- 12:24Like it was going to be a sneaky this.
- 12:27Year I was gonna say I could like Dorothy was gonna be one of
- 12:29my like sneaky guys. Now I'm a bit worried with the
- 12:31Mariner one, but honestly I could see him keeping the spot
- 12:33over hurdle. I think they really like him as
- 12:35like that trigger guy on the right side and he's like, he was
- 12:37really good at it last year. Yeah, it's the face offs.
- 12:40That's interesting, right? I mean, that's where Hurdle has
- 12:44a huge. He's one of the best in the
- 12:45league. That specifically.
- 12:48Was gonna take our is gonna take face offs.
- 12:50Are they like having people like having two face off guys in case
- 12:52he gets like pulled from the circle?
- 12:54Yeah, but more could take a face off.
- 12:56There's a right wing. He's a righty rather.
- 12:59I guess it depends where we're on the ice.
- 13:01The face off is. Now it'll be very interesting to
- 13:03see if you know, if you have a hunch about one of them over the
- 13:06other, then I would go for it because like if you snipe the
- 13:09correct one, that's gonna be a really value pick.
- 13:12Huge. Yeah, I.
- 13:13Agree, but also I feel that spot is just gonna be up for grabs
- 13:16throughout the season, like when they go through slumps and
- 13:17whatever, so I wouldn't draft specifically on that.
- 13:19You know, that's being the tipping point.
- 13:22Obviously really good like to start the year, but if like I'm
- 13:26not banking on that to remain the same for the rest of the
- 13:28season. You know what?
- 13:28I. Mean.
- 13:29Yeah, that's fair. Also, Stone could also get
- 13:32injured and both of them could end up on Power Play 1.
- 13:34So when Stone gets injured? Yeah, exactly.
- 13:36When not. In just let's look at the leaves
- 13:39for a second and then we'll move on to the next one.
- 13:41And I think that pretty much this is going to negatively
- 13:47affect most players except maybe Nylander could just have like an
- 13:50even bigger role than he's had. And I mean, look, not to say
- 13:55that Mantias Mitchelli is Marner, but if he actually does
- 13:57play with Matthews currently he's with NYS and Matthews on
- 14:01line one that's kind of fun. It's been interesting
- 14:03opportunity for him. Yeah, I like Nylander.
- 14:07I think his spots on the team, like he became, I always viewed
- 14:10it as Matthew, He's the guy, one guy, and Martina was #2 so now I
- 14:14feel like Neil Andrews, the number two guy after Matthews.
- 14:16So that's really big. Another guy who gets a big boost
- 14:20from this is actually Morgan Riley, because now Mariner
- 14:24leaves that open spot, spot on power play 1.
- 14:26I think Riley gets it back. I don't think they're gonna put
- 14:27like Michelle or something and keep the five.
- 14:29Forward yell. That's it though.
- 14:32So The thing is like I think Riley gets the first shot at the
- 14:34power play one, which is a huge boost, but also the fact that he
- 14:38was demoted last year means that if he doesn't do well, he can
- 14:40easily get demoted again. And the guys knocking on the
- 14:42door are either OEL or if they want to try the five forwards,
- 14:45they can put Michelle here or even like McMahon or something.
- 14:48Am I alone in thinking that Toronto's probably going to put
- 14:52Nylander and Matthews and just try to go like OP line 1 again
- 14:55and then JT will probably play with like Michelli or Nice?
- 15:01I, I think noise is going to be stapled to Matthews.
- 15:03That's the one I'm more certain of as a pair on the first line.
- 15:06And I could see Nylander being with them as like a crazy first
- 15:08line. Yeah, but but I'm pretty certain
- 15:10Matthews and Myers are gonna be the the two that are for sure
- 15:13together and I think pushing back and forth.
- 15:16I think Noise is a Goodyear, and not necessarily because Marner
- 15:19left. I just think he's going to have
- 15:21a good year. He's going to have to play a
- 15:22bigger offensive role so. No, he's sick.
- 15:24He was also on my breakouts. Great for bangers.
- 15:27Yeah, yeah, like the least low key breakouts to come out for
- 15:31next year. I mean, anyone who watched the
- 15:33playoffs knows that he's gonna be insane.
- 15:36Yeah, absolutely. Should we move on to the next
- 15:38one? Let's do it.
- 15:39Alright, a bit a bit less exciting on the on the next one
- 15:42after that. What do you mean danger?
- 15:43This is even more exciting. Yeah, I mean, it's exciting for
- 15:46house fans that he's no longer in the East, but Anaheim Ducks,
- 15:49a choir forward Chris Kreider and a fourth rounder in 25 from
- 15:53the New York Rangers for Kerry Terrence and a third rounder in
- 15:562025. Pretty much Chris Kreider for
- 15:58some pics. I really, I mean, I was a big
- 16:01fan of the Ducks this year and I'm going to continue being a
- 16:05big fan of the Ducks. I I actually really do like this
- 16:09acquisition for them and I like this landing spot for him.
- 16:12He's the exact veteran, veteran presence that they needed in
- 16:15order to like take things to the next level.
- 16:18And I'm pretty excited to see what they can do this year.
- 16:22I think they could be a fringe playoff team and there's a.
- 16:25Huge Emilio Estevez fan. Yeah, exactly.
- 16:30I'm just I'm not shocked at all the jerky has this opinion, but
- 16:32I also think like they're gonna be pushing for a playoff spot.
- 16:34I feel like they're kind of like on the come up where they're
- 16:36like a year behind the Habs, you know, like I feel like where we
- 16:39were in our journey, like they are where we were last year,
- 16:43this year. And I think quitters, honestly,
- 16:46like probably one of the better players that they could have
- 16:48gone for what they need because they have a lot of young talent,
- 16:50obviously got rid of some young talent as well.
- 16:53So we'll keep that in mind. But I think traders gonna fit
- 16:56really well on this squad. I think the main question
- 16:58honestly is, is the power play? Like because Anaheim power play
- 17:02had spurts last year where they were actually pretty viable and
- 17:04we saw a lot of guys like be good for fantasy.
- 17:07Like we saw the Jonathan Lacombe like breakout.
- 17:13What about what some respect on his name?
- 17:16For a former for. Well, we gonna say, did you know
- 17:18that he used to be a a forward and.
- 17:21Defenseman. Never before has that been
- 17:24broken out on a podcast, but I I just feel like now they'll be
- 17:28able to, you know, stack that P1 even more and get some like
- 17:32veteran presence there. And I wouldn't be surprised if
- 17:34creditor is actually pretty pretty because he's the net
- 17:36front guy, right? He's yeah, no, he'll tip those,
- 17:39block the goalie. So I feel like that's a
- 17:41different element to their power play that they didn't have
- 17:44previously. And obviously I can't expect him
- 17:47to produce like he did on the Rangers, but I still feel like
- 17:49maybe he might be sneaky. Like, I feel like it's just
- 17:51going to crash down this year and there's gonna be a lot of
- 17:54guys that go ahead of him that shouldn't.
- 17:57That's kind of my take. Yeah, I don't think you can
- 18:00expect like anywhere near his like best years, you know, like
- 18:032 years ago and four years ago he had like 75 points, 18 power
- 18:07play goals. Like you're not you're not
- 18:08getting that. The fact is, as much as I'm hype
- 18:10about the Ducks as much as you guys are, I think they're doing
- 18:12a really good job in their rebuild.
- 18:14And like you said, like kind of like a year, like they're like
- 18:16the haves a year removed so much.
- 18:18And I love the Habs rebuild, so I really like what they're
- 18:20doing. But the fact is there's no way
- 18:21the Ducks power play as good as the Rangers one was when Crider
- 18:24was killing it. You know, that power play was a
- 18:26Crider, Panarin, Fox, Savannah, Jad and like I think it was
- 18:30Kojak is the fifth guy like that power play was, you know, they
- 18:33had it down to a T. It was the same power play unit
- 18:35for for a few years there. So I don't think I don't think
- 18:38ducks are gonna be anywhere near that.
- 18:39They also have done a split power play for the past few
- 18:42years. Yep.
- 18:43So he's gonna lose some power play time in general.
- 18:46So I don't think he's definitely not gonna be as good as he was
- 18:51two years ago when he was like his like one of his best seasons
- 18:53on the Rangers. This past season, he had a
- 18:55really rough year and he was dealing with an injury.
- 18:57So he should be better than he was this past year.
- 18:59But I would expect, you know, take the average of last year
- 19:02and the year before that and put that together.
- 19:04And that's, that's my. Prediction Think you break 70.
- 19:07I don't. You know what about 60?
- 19:10The thing is that the Ducks are going to be like, they're an
- 19:12exciting team, but they're. Like a lot of layoff.
- 19:14But that's the thing, I think they have a lot of mouse to
- 19:17feed. Like they have a lot of fun guys
- 19:18who are gonna be doing more of the scoring.
- 19:21He's like a veteran guy. He's coming.
- 19:22But you can get along together guys.
- 19:25He could, but I just don't see him as being like one of the
- 19:27main guys. Like he can hit in the 60.
- 19:29I think he can hit 60 maybe but but that's like my.
- 19:32Ceiling I would probably avoid him in a draft to be honest
- 19:35because you're right there are a lot of mouths to feed.
- 19:36But also look at the second line right now would probably be
- 19:39Crowder, Mctavish, Grandland like this is and calories on the
- 19:42first line like this isn't really a young team anymore like
- 19:46they. Just have a few veterans that
- 19:47really round out the squad pretty well.
- 19:49But I know they look like a young team in the rebuild, but I
- 19:52think that there are more like serious compete now team.
- 19:56Obviously it's a pretty jump, big jump to say that they're
- 19:58going to be contenders in the playoffs, but I think they could
- 20:01definitely make the playoffs. Yeah.
- 20:03The thing is, we might not even be in the top 6.
- 20:05Like here, let me name you 6 guys who like could be in the
- 20:08top six. Overrider, Line 1, Leo Carlson,
- 20:11Cutter, Godier Treatery, OK, something like that, that all
- 20:13three of those guys definitely top six.
- 20:15Then line 2 you've got Mctavish, Vetrano and Granlund or Cologne.
- 20:19You know, pretty much, yeah. So he's not even gonna be like
- 20:23guaranteed a top two line spot and he's not even guaranteed
- 20:27exactly 1. But like we said, we they split
- 20:28it. So you know, it'll be kind of
- 20:30whatever you call that probably 1.5 or or like whatever.
- 20:33But but yeah, so I'm not that hype about Crider, to be honest.
- 20:36This this year, I think he's it was a good real life move.
- 20:38But fantasy wise, I don't think he's that exciting.
- 20:41Would you rather have Crider or Mark Stone?
- 20:46Mark Stone. Stone.
- 20:47OK, that was pretty low. I mean.
- 20:51They do one interesting one and then.
- 20:53Like, yeah. No one went.
- 20:54To the Rangers, Ryan Hartman or no horse rider, No Crider, Jake
- 21:01Neighbors. That's a good one.
- 21:04I like neighbors. I take neighbors.
- 21:06Yeah, he's. A good thing.
- 21:07OK, OK. Good segue into the Rangers,
- 21:09Lafreniere or Crider? Laugh is another guy who's on my
- 21:12breakout list. Yeah, this is actually he's the
- 21:15biggest beneficiary I think of this trade probably assuming.
- 21:20Well, pretty much the big question is who's gonna take the
- 21:23who's gonna take the power play one spot, right?
- 21:24Is it just like, is it just JT Miller came in, critters out and
- 21:28then Trocheck gets his spot back, or is that Trocheck spot
- 21:31gonna go to a guy like Lafreniere?
- 21:32Like Rangers, they fired Violette, so now they don't have
- 21:36a guy who hates young players anymore.
- 21:38Like Laugh has shown that he can be a good player in this league.
- 21:41I think they're gonna give him a shot over Trocheck and I think
- 21:44he's gonna run with it. I like Lafreniere a lot as a
- 21:47breakout pick this year. Yeah, he's gonna be.
- 21:49I think his ADP will reflect up. Yeah, he won't be like a steel
- 21:53late in drops anymore. Coolly, too.
- 21:55I mean, right now Cooley's probably the obvious second line
- 21:59left wing. Yeah, I love Grey with Zibanejad
- 22:01and Miller like that can work. They don't have a deep team at
- 22:05all. So I actually think that the
- 22:07Crider moving is just going to boost the value of these Rangers
- 22:10players. So I would be pretty hyped on
- 22:12the Rangers, not as a team, but as like.
- 22:14A lot of fantasy assets, yeah. What about, what do you guys
- 22:17think, Trocheck? Then, if you guys kind of agree
- 22:19with the laugh being probably one that means Trocheck power
- 22:21play too. And also like who's you know, if
- 22:24it's Miller into Banerji taking line 1 and line 2 centre, does
- 22:27that bump project to line 3 centre?
- 22:30Last year, to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if he's
- 22:33the one that you know, has the worst the worst outcome out of
- 22:37all of this. But we'll have to wait and see.
- 22:38But whoever is on the P2 obviously has a significant like
- 22:42I'd be more worried if we step manager got bumped off for his
- 22:46value then Trochez project has so many other things that he.
- 22:49Does. Sustains like his fantasy value
- 22:53but like imagine if he gets bumped off people one like he's
- 22:55cooked. 100%. And Zip could play right wing
- 22:58too, so there is that. Yeah, that's true.
- 23:00All right, let's move on to the next one.
- 23:02This is a fun one. The Utah Mammoth knew no longer
- 23:07the Utah, but they have a name now, the Utah Mammoth.
- 23:10They acquire forward Gigi Peterka from Buffalo Sabres for
- 23:13defenseman Michael Kesselring and forward Josh Done.
- 23:16So first I want to give a big Congrats to JJ for escaping the
- 23:19train wreck that is the Buffalo Sabres.
- 23:21Exactly. I'm thinking, can I still call
- 23:23them the Utah? Is that because I like doing?
- 23:25Yeah, yeah. OK.
- 23:27My heart always do the outlaws. Are going to win the Stanley Cup
- 23:30apparently now since they just acquired a Buffalo Sabre player.
- 23:33So Congrats on future Stanley Cup.
- 23:35Champion. They're my dark horse team for
- 23:37this year. Actually they remind me of like
- 23:40Seattle, that like 2 years ago where Seattle was like on
- 23:43nobody's radar and then they ended up being good.
- 23:46No, Seattle. Never got cooked remember like 2
- 23:48years ago? When no, I know.
- 23:50You're saying that I drafted Vince Dunn?
- 23:52He was like great value. Yeah, Vendor, I'm way more hype
- 23:56on this Utah team than than than that Seattle team like 2 years
- 24:00ago. They have actually some young
- 24:02talent that's exciting to watch. They don't have 4 second lines
- 24:05or like 1. But I think this is great for
- 24:10Patrick's value. I think the biggest thing that
- 24:11I'm gonna be paying attention to is this shot volume.
- 24:14But they paid him a decent amount of money to go play
- 24:16there. And I just feel like he's gonna
- 24:18be like, you know, unlock new scenery.
- 24:20He can finally like just be himself and play hockey.
- 24:22And I feel like it'll be really good situation for him.
- 24:25I'm really excited about this P1 for for for the Utah.
- 24:29Yeah, So, yeah, same agree with Peterka.
- 24:31Like anyone leaving Buffalo to me is is just a huge, huge bump
- 24:35just mentally you don't have to deal with that, you know,
- 24:37organization and also always follow the money.
- 24:41So they paid him 7.7 mil AAV. I think it was seven years or it
- 24:46might have been, I'm not sure. But but yeah, they they paid him
- 24:48a massive salary. They're clearly very hype on
- 24:50him. He's gonna have a great year.
- 24:53But yeah, let's talk about how it's gonna affect the other
- 24:55mammoths or other mammoths. I don't know if the mammoths
- 24:59Mami exactly. You know, just just a quick
- 25:03thing on this. Before I knew like what their
- 25:05logo was, I kept seeing like different players going to sign
- 25:10to this team. And I thought it was like some
- 25:11back alley cage L team. And I'm like, well, why didn't
- 25:14these players keep leaving the NHL?
- 25:15And then I saw Peterka. I was like, OK, wait, hold on,
- 25:18let me look at this. So can I just give you, would
- 25:21you rather real quick? Like would you rather over
- 25:23particular recovery 3 Oh. Wait, what you say over Gabe
- 25:29Vilardi? Yeah, Patrick Vilardi.
- 25:31Vilardi. I think Vilardi too.
- 25:33I thought for some reason my mind Peterka was this like guy
- 25:36who was also solid bangers but then I went and looked at his
- 25:38stats and he was like no he doesn't .3 shots and no hits.
- 25:41So like you're getting him for pure points.
- 25:43Validity is a pure points and between the two I think.
- 25:46I think Winnipeg's power play and Velardi on line one power
- 25:48play 1. Is OK two more real quick
- 25:50Velardi or Quinton Byfield? Wait, now we're off Peterka
- 25:54completely. Now it's just the velocity.
- 25:58Yeah, sorry, I actually I didn't even hear you say Belardi like
- 26:01like Peterka or Bayfield. I would go by field.
- 26:04I think Bayfields are huge breakout candidate.
- 26:07He looks so great. Playoffs.
- 26:08Like what you guys? I have like a list on my phone
- 26:12of guys like we're gonna. Break out, you've heard before.
- 26:16You know, some of these guys like even though they're
- 26:18obvious, they can slide through the cracks of it.
- 26:20So I'm sure I have some more some more obscure ones you guys
- 26:23don't know about. OK, but they're Drake Batherson.
- 26:26I like Batherson and. Badgers.
- 26:29I could see Patricia getting more points, but I think
- 26:31Batherson bangs is gonna make up for any difference.
- 26:34So, so the only thing I would say with Peterka, I really feel
- 26:36as if no, you had three. I feel as if I'm not.
- 26:40No, no bonus, no, I'm not answering this.
- 26:42OK, So I feel as if with Peterka, the truth is that even
- 26:46though the Buffalo leaving Buffalo is going to take a load
- 26:50off his shoulders and like go into Utah, nice young team.
- 26:54I think that they're going to do well.
- 26:56I actually don't know how much better he's going to do right.
- 26:59He had one really good year last year.
- 27:01I mean, I know he's young makes sense that that's his breakout
- 27:04year. But I think we're getting a
- 27:06little ahead of ourselves to say that he's gonna be really good
- 27:10at listen, I'd happily draft him if the values there.
- 27:13I think he is going to have a decent season.
- 27:15But right last year he had 68 points and 77 games.
- 27:19Like I don't think that's his ceiling this year, but I think
- 27:22that that similar is similar vibe is going to be replicated.
- 27:26I think he can break something. I can see him break 70 and I
- 27:29wouldn't be surprised if you got a point.
- 27:31Same type of thing. The the main question for me is
- 27:33does he break three shots a game?
- 27:36Like, does he get enough ice time and critical minutes and is
- 27:39he the guy that's going to be a shot taker on the team?
- 27:42It just happens to be colour and gender.
- 27:43Are those shooters? Yes, but let's say if he plays
- 27:47with Nick Schmaltz, like someone's gotta shoot the puck,
- 27:50like Nick Schmaltz is not true, they're gonna be playing.
- 27:53Please. Like rock paper scissor for
- 27:55like. It's gonna be like.
- 27:56To shoot like. You know what a movie I watched
- 27:59recently? Like, you know, The Longest Yard
- 28:00with Adam Sandler, of course, you know that play where they're
- 28:03like all like like ladder rolling, like the the ball.
- 28:06Yeah, yeah. Like no one like another player.
- 28:10Like yeah, exactly. That's gonna be like Schmaltz
- 28:12and Peterka. You just back and forth, no one
- 28:15taking a shot. Absolutely, Yeah.
- 28:20No, totally though. It's like they just both don't
- 28:22shoot a lot. So I actually think that his
- 28:24volume may go up, but I'm not that high.
- 28:27Yeah, probably, unless high on him than.
- 28:29You look, when I say, when I say I'm high on him, I think he's
- 28:31gonna be let's say let's put him out like .9 points per game, 2.3
- 28:34shots. You know, that's the guy I'm
- 28:35happy to have on my team. But like, yeah, you're not
- 28:38picking him like. Super highly, but just like
- 28:40he'll be in the double digit rounds.
- 28:42Like just reminds me of Buchnevich a little bit.
- 28:45Like maybe slightly better, but same type of guy.
- 28:48Yeah, exactly. And that's.
- 28:49On a good team like doesn't have the most shot volume, but no is
- 28:52known to be like somewhat of a shooter and always hovers like
- 28:55near a point per game. Yeah, and that's quickly bang
- 28:58out what you guys think who gets bumped off power play one for
- 29:01Peterka. So the the locks are Keller,
- 29:03Guenther, Sergachev, let's say Peterka jumps on so the
- 29:07Schmeltzer, Cooley get that 5th. Spot.
- 29:10I mean, I think Cooley's gonna be insane this year, actually.
- 29:13So like, I think police definitely got a spot.
- 29:15It's a role question though, because talent wise you want
- 29:18Cooley there, but does it make more sense for Schmaltz either
- 29:22or somebody else? I don't know.
- 29:24I feel like it'll just depend. But I I think Cooley, because
- 29:28we've seen it this year, unless they really want to bank on
- 29:30their young talent this next year.
- 29:32Yeah, I think, I think by this time next year we're talking
- 29:35about Cooley as the best player on their team.
- 29:37I mean that's crazy over guenther and colour.
- 29:40I I think so, no. OK, Kelly Keller, maybe not.
- 29:43He's the captain and everything. He's got more of the veteran
- 29:45presence, but like, he's going to be the most skilled guy.
- 29:47Like I think it's like a Jack. Yeah, I think it could be like a
- 29:50Jack Hughes breakout. Your type here for.
- 29:52Him, he only tough thing is that there's a lot of mouse to feed
- 29:55here and he might like last season we saw him.
- 29:57He was the first guy to get cut from power play 1.
- 30:00He even got cut for power from power play one for Barrett
- 30:02Hayton for like some stretches of the year, you know, So they
- 30:05seem to like schmaltz on power play one a lot.
- 30:07It's going to be one of them too, who gets who gets dropped
- 30:09down and that's a big hit even as if Kelly plays amazing, even
- 30:12strength, like not getting that power play time.
- 30:14It's just a big hit to value. So it really depends which one
- 30:17you think. If you think he's getting that
- 30:19power play time, then I think he's gonna be a great breakout
- 30:22for this year. But if you think he's the odd
- 30:23man out then I would avoid. I want to call you on my team
- 30:26this year, but it is gonna be interesting to see how to play
- 30:29Shakes. Down.
- 30:29So let's quickly talk about the Sabre side of this trade.
- 30:32I'll be I'll be really quick about it.
- 30:34Particularly leaving frees up a spot on the power play.
- 30:36The locks are Thompson, Norris, Dalene and Zucker in my opinion,
- 30:40so I think the last spot is going to be either Tuck or Quinn
- 30:43and I'm leaning towards Quinn since the coach really didn't
- 30:45seem to want Tuck on power play one last year even when Peterka
- 30:47was injured. I don't.
- 30:48Know he got treated so yeah, I feel like there are kind of done
- 30:52with it, which sucks because he's like a Buffalo native and
- 30:54they were so hyped to get him after the ICO trade.
- 30:56But I think it's time in Buffalo as like a main piece is kind of
- 31:00over. So do you like, do you like
- 31:02Quinn as like a guy who's gonna boost in value by getting that
- 31:04Power Play 1? Spot.
- 31:05I mean, we'll have to see how the power play shakes up closer
- 31:07to the season. But Benson, too.
- 31:09Kulik. Yeah, that's true.
- 31:11They're all young guys who was on the P1 is gonna have
- 31:13definitely the most value. I I like Quinn this next year.
- 31:16Yeah, and then just talking about quickly, the two players
- 31:19went the other way, so don't know that much to talk about.
- 31:21He's a young guy, he's gonna have a chance to make it, but I
- 31:24don't think he's relevant this year.
- 31:25But Kesselring I found was interesting where he actually
- 31:28was worth holding at certain times of last year at the very
- 31:30least, like streaming. He was the number two Deon Utah
- 31:33behind Sergachev. So when searched went down, he
- 31:35took over the power play and he was really solid at Pimm's.
- 31:38But him going to Buffalo just absolutely tanks his value and
- 31:40makes him someone I would never take on my team because now he's
- 31:43the 4th defenseman on that team. There's Daleen, Power and Byram
- 31:47ahead of him, so I think he's just cooked.
- 31:49There decor is actually gonna be crazy.
- 31:51As I think they're trying to trade my room though like I
- 31:53don't. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:54But I think it's gonna be next. Year, yeah, but either way, I
- 31:56just feel like he's too buried now.
- 31:58It's all. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 32:00Sure. Next, we've got Philadelphia
- 32:03Flyers acquired Trevor Zagreus from Anaheim for Ryan Paling a
- 32:06second and a fourth. So I think this is going to be
- 32:10interesting for. Chris, I know when the Habs were
- 32:14rumored to get him, but yeah, I mean, he was like the next big
- 32:17thing. He was on the cover of NHL, like
- 32:19all these things, and then it just all fell apart.
- 32:22Yeah, I think injuries was a big part of it.
- 32:25I don't really know. I don't really know why he just
- 32:28went sort of struggling out of after having such like a hot
- 32:30start to his career. But I think the changes going to
- 32:33be really good for him. I think getting to reunite with
- 32:35the Drysdale, I know they're really close, so that's going to
- 32:38be really nice. He's going to get access to
- 32:39power, play one with some really good players like Mitch above
- 32:41Connect any tip it and Drysdale. And the biggest thing that makes
- 32:45him not untouchable is that Tortorella is gone.
- 32:49Seriously, we could draft Philadelphia Flyers again.
- 32:52I actually, I actually like the Flyers overall.
- 32:54Like I think gonna be. Different talent, definitely.
- 32:57Really do. Am I gonna drive Zigra's?
- 32:58Probably not though. No, because he has like no
- 33:01peripherals and. I could see taking him in like
- 33:03the last round. Yeah, the last couple rounds and
- 33:06I feel like you wait to see how early in the season is
- 33:08deployment is and like how he's doing and if it looks
- 33:10interesting, you keep him. If not, like you cut and then
- 33:12he'll probably be like worthy of a stream throughout the season.
- 33:15But I don't think he's gonna have anything more than that.
- 33:17Like he was already basically just a stream this year so.
- 33:20Yeah, shallow league, like avoid him completely and a deep
- 33:23league, I isn't think like he's worth anything more than the
- 33:27last two rounds. It's just that once you get to
- 33:30like the last let's say like 6 rounds of a deep draft, you
- 33:32know, our draft is what like 2022 rounds.
- 33:35So once you get to the last 6 picks, even like last like 8 or
- 33:38something, you're just throwing darts, right and trying to hope
- 33:40like that you hit. So he's the type of guy that has
- 33:42that upside. You know, he's done it before,
- 33:44he's getting this new scenery. There's a chance he just become
- 33:47someone that you really happy on your team.
- 33:48So that's the kind of guys I'm aiming for late in the draft.
- 33:50Just anybody that has good deployment, it's young like you
- 33:53feel like just is a dart worth throwing and I and I get it.
- 33:55So it just depends on the shape of your team and everything.
- 33:58Yeah, and if you're. Having just have like a crazy,
- 34:01yeah, exactly like crazy chemistry with Michael, Like who
- 34:03knows? He's a skilled player.
- 34:04He's just had a pretty rough since his rookie year, sophomore
- 34:08season, you just gone downhill. So, yeah, yeah.
- 34:12Alright, I think that's good for that one.
- 34:14And lastly for this for this Part 1.
- 34:17So the 5th trade we're gonna talk about, Vancouver Canucks
- 34:19acquire Evander Kane from the Oilers for a fourth round pick.
- 34:24OK, like honestly, I, I. Think we're native this.
- 34:27Back home. No, no, this is such a disaster.
- 34:29Like I feel bad for the Canucks fans.
- 34:31Like it's just like, OK, he's he wore a really cool suit to the
- 34:37press conference and that's about all the cool things I have
- 34:41to say about this. This is one of those cases
- 34:45where, you know, there's so many times where we have players who
- 34:48are like great real life, terrible fantasy.
- 34:50I think he's like, not terrible real life, but like not what
- 34:53they needed. But he's still great in fantasy
- 34:55bangers. You know, we'll see how.
- 34:57He really think? We'll see how his body holds up.
- 34:59He's he's turning 34 and he just came off like 6.
- 35:02So many surgeries. The show dog, it's, it's like 2
- 35:07torn hip, hip adductor muscles, 2 hernias and two lower AB
- 35:10muscles. So yeah, his whole body is, you
- 35:12know. Yeah, he went through it.
- 35:14Yeah, I think his skill days are behind him really.
- 35:17Like he was OK two years ago on Edmonton, but really was not
- 35:21that guy. And now I just think he's gonna
- 35:24be decoded. Joshua 2.0.
- 35:26Gosh, had a great year. Two years.
- 35:28I don't think he's gonna be as good as Dakota Dog.
- 35:30Yeah. Really.
- 35:32The good Josh was hitting like over 5A game like when he.
- 35:34Was different dial, I guess I mean just like insofar as like
- 35:38penalty minutes and stuff like that.
- 35:40Like look, even though like Dakota Joshua was good and
- 35:43actually I think he could be pretty decent own in a bangers
- 35:46league, especially on the Leafs. Nevertheless, like Evander, Kane
- 35:50was the guy for fantasies like a former third round.
- 35:52Pick. Those days are long gone.
- 35:54The issue, the issue is you can take him guy when you're
- 35:58actually valuable to the team because they're like, OK, he
- 36:01gets Pimms, but he's getting 80 points when you're a third liner
- 36:06and or like, you know, handicapping your team a lot
- 36:10with Pimms, like they don't want you on the ice anymore.
- 36:12You know what I mean? OK, but is there any shot that
- 36:14he breaks Tarpley one? I think there definitely is a
- 36:17shot. No, I think they're gonna be so
- 36:20bad though. There's way more name value than
- 36:22actual value, and he's not gonna be someone that I want to draft.
- 36:27I, I think they're, they're like, I feel bad for Canucks
- 36:29fans. Like I think this would.
- 36:30Be a really bad like I think like they're they're gonna be in
- 36:33the running for McKenna. Yeah, no, they're not gonna be
- 36:36good. But I will say I would be happy
- 36:39to grab. Came late in my draft.
- 36:40I think he's gonna be really great in bangers.
- 36:42Like he could, really. Great.
- 36:43He's great value. He could be a double, double and
- 36:46that's always valuable. I just don't think the points
- 36:48are gonna be there and I just feel like it would be too
- 36:51inconsistent. Obviously late in the draft,
- 36:54like anybody is worth taking because there's always a chance.
- 36:56But that's that's what I have to say.
- 36:58I don't think, I don't think it affects anybody.
- 37:00It's already in the. Canucks, I would rather let like
- 37:03the Canucks fan in your league, just just take him and just put
- 37:06your mind at ease in points league, no way.
- 37:08But in a bangers, like I see what you mean, Josh, like it's
- 37:10around 1516 and you're kind of torn between if you guys like
- 37:13you could do worse, but it's like, I don't love it.
- 37:16And I just think Vancouver is in such a bad place.
- 37:18Yeah, I just see him as a type of guy who like just randomly
- 37:20sticks around your roster all year just because he's been
- 37:22putting up like solid bangers. So you just always have other
- 37:25guys who are like not doing anything that you cut over him
- 37:28and then he just kind of sticks. Around the question marks, the
- 37:30injuries, if he's passed it then then that'd be cool, but
- 37:34otherwise I don't know. I'm I'm erring on the side of
- 37:37caution with him. Even attractive.
- 37:39I finished the season in Vancouver, the way out somehow.
- 37:44I could see that. All right, that wraps up Part 1
- 37:50of the trades episode for the offseason.
