- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey friends, we are back with it another OnCore episode
- 0:02Speaker 1: of Girls Gone Hallmark. This time it's the Love on
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Danube series of movies. These originally aired back in
- 0:09Speaker 1: fall of twenty twenty four on Hallmark Plus and that's
- 0:12Speaker 1: when we review them, but we are re airing our
- 0:15Speaker 1: reviews in honor of their premiere on the Hallmark Channel.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Enjoy. This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:45Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm Wendy and I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Today we're discussing Love on the Danube love Song, which
- 0:55Speaker 1: is exclusively streaming on Hallmark Plus. You can hang out
- 1:00Speaker 1: with us on Instagram we are Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 1:04Speaker 2: You can also jump into our exclusive Facebook group, Girls
- 1:08Speaker 2: Gone Hallmark. There's just a bunch of people that are
- 1:10Speaker 2: talking about all things Hallmark and it's like at a
- 1:13Speaker 2: fever pitch right now with all of the new content
- 1:16Speaker 2: coming out from.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Hallmark, and we suspect next week shit's gonna go wild.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I think so. I think this week it's all about
- 1:25Speaker 2: Hallmark Plus. Next week, I think I know what's coming.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I think we're going to get a count down a
- 1:29Speaker 1: Christmas announcements. I think so too, if history holds. You
- 1:34Speaker 1: can dm us on Instagram, join our Facebook group, or
- 1:36Speaker 1: email us Girls Gone Hallmark at gmail dot com. And
- 1:40Speaker 1: we do have some feedback to share. Based on this
- 1:43Speaker 1: week's review of Chicken Sister's Episode one, I erroneously stated
- 1:47Speaker 1: that this was Wendy Maleck's first appearance on the Hallmark Channel.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It is not.
- 1:52Speaker 1: She appeared in the series Darrow and Darrow. She also
- 1:56Speaker 1: appeared in The Father Christmas Series, which is a a
- 2:00Speaker 1: series of movies that stars Nile Mater and Aaron Craco.
- 2:04Speaker 1: She also appeared in a mystery called After All These Years,
- 2:07Speaker 1: which was a standalone mystery. And we did receive multiple messages,
- 2:11Speaker 1: probably more than we've ever received about any single piece
- 2:13Speaker 1: of content. I am very curious about Darrow and Darrow.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Kimberly Williams Paisley.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Stars in that.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I might have to give it a try. It might
- 2:23Speaker 1: be like to me, it's like Law and Order hallmarkified.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, I like that. I like that genre. But when
- 2:32Speaker 2: did that show air?
- 2:34Speaker 1: Not since we've been recording, so it might be a
- 2:38Speaker 1: little dated, sure, but so's the West wing and I
- 2:41Speaker 1: watched that with their poorly fitted suits and their flip phones.
- 2:47Speaker 1: All right, let's start with a synopsis of Love on
- 2:50Speaker 1: the Danube Love Sarn fellow cruise passenger Sarah and Jack
- 2:54Speaker 1: play matchmaker with their music loving widowed parents as they
- 2:58Speaker 1: cruise down the Danube visiting European cities. Stars nasnine Contractor
- 3:04Speaker 1: and Wes Brown would like to point out that this
- 3:09Speaker 1: is part of a collection. I can see where some
- 3:12Speaker 1: of the connection is going to come in, but these
- 3:15Speaker 1: are standalone stories with a shared setting. And I am
- 3:20Speaker 1: so dead set in calling this a trilogy. And I
- 3:26Speaker 1: don't know why I hadn't.
- 3:27Speaker 3: You don't want to call it a trilogy?
- 3:30Speaker 2: No, I had originally read from Hallmark source that called
- 3:37Speaker 2: it a collection, and then they started calling it a trilogy.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And the reason why I don't want to call it
- 3:42Speaker 2: a trilogy is because these same lead actors do not
- 3:46Speaker 2: appear in all the movies.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Yes, I hear you.
- 3:50Speaker 1: We're not picking up where one story left off.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It's not the wedding veil exactly.
- 3:55Speaker 3: The groomsmen right right.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Anyway, whatever, they can call it whatever they want. That's
- 4:00Speaker 2: my personal feeling on it.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yes, at the very least.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It is a collection they are exclusively streaming on Hallmark
- 4:08Speaker 1: Plus and the additional movies will continue to drop over
- 4:11Speaker 1: the next two weeks. So let's jump into news and notes.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Terry Ingram directed Love on the Danube Love Song. He
- 4:18Speaker 1: has an impressive ninety four directing credits to his name
- 4:21Speaker 1: and is well known for Hallmark hits like Winter and Veil,
- 4:25Speaker 1: The Wedding Cottage, four of the six Wedding Veil movies,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and the fan favorite Three Wise Men and a Baby.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Ingram is also set to direct the highly anticipated sequel,
- 4:35Speaker 1: Three Wiser Men and a Boy.
- 4:37Speaker 2: The story is by Agnes Bristow and she teamed up
- 4:41Speaker 2: with writer Andrea Canning to write the teleplay. Agnes Bristow
- 4:48Speaker 2: is both a writer and busy producer. This is her
- 4:50Speaker 2: sixth writing credit and has three movies in the works,
- 4:54Speaker 2: including the next two Love on the Danube movies, as
- 4:58Speaker 2: well as the upcoming The Chris Smiths Chocolate Tier starring
- 5:03Speaker 2: her daughter Brittany Bristow and rumored co star Will Kemp.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Andrea Canning's resume has a healthy mix of romance and
- 5:11Speaker 2: drama for Hallmarks. She has written a merry Scottish Christmas,
- 5:16Speaker 2: A Paris Proposal, and South Beach Love. This film marks
- 5:20Speaker 2: her twenty fourth writing credit, and her twenty fifth and
- 5:23Speaker 2: twenty six will be the next installments in the Danube series.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Nasney and Contractor plays Sarah. She has an impressive fifty
- 5:31Speaker 1: nine acting credits, including roles in Children, Ruin Everything, Charmed,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and Freak Angels for Howmark. She co starred with Brennan
- 5:40Speaker 1: Elliott in The Perfect Pairing in twenty twenty two, and
- 5:42Speaker 1: is set to appear on the upcoming holidays. According to IMDb,
- 5:46Speaker 1: Nosny will also appear in the four new The Love
- 5:49Speaker 1: Club movies, set to premiere in twenty twenty five.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Also, while I was doing news and notes today, I
- 5:59Speaker 2: was picked up information from the official Hallmark press site. Yeah,
- 6:05Speaker 2: and they spelled miss Contractor's name incorrectly. Like really, you
- 6:11Speaker 2: gotta have somebody look over your press releases. Wes Brown
- 6:16Speaker 2: plays Jack, and though he's a familiar face on Hallmark,
- 6:19Speaker 2: I think we'd like to see him in some more movies.
- 6:23Speaker 2: In twenty twenty three, he was seen in a cameo
- 6:25Speaker 2: role in a Biltmore Christmas, as well as his reprised
- 6:30Speaker 2: role as Jared in Haul Out the Holly Lit Up.
- 6:34Speaker 2: This fall, Wes will team up with Aaron K. Hill
- 6:37Speaker 2: and Autumn at Apple Hill, premiering on October fifth.
- 6:42Speaker 1: You know, Wes is a real wowie zowie to me,
- 6:44Speaker 1: and I think the first, maybe some of the only
- 6:48Speaker 1: movies I've seen him in in a starring role were
- 6:53Speaker 1: those Haul Out of the Holly movies where.
- 6:54Speaker 3: He was so good.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And I think one of the issues is that he
- 7:00Speaker 1: definitely suffers from the yearbook photoification of Hallmark stars in
- 7:06Speaker 1: his movie posters and they just do not do the
- 7:10Speaker 1: man justice. Oh No, I think he's super hot. Pamela
- 7:14Speaker 1: Sinha plays Mom Julia. This is Pamela's first project for Hallmark,
- 7:19Speaker 1: though she is known for television appearances on Er, The Newsroom,
- 7:24Speaker 1: Why the Last Man Man That is a two for
- 7:27Speaker 1: this Week I Know, as well as starred in a
- 7:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty movie titled Happy Plays, which was an adaptation
- 7:34Speaker 1: of a theatrical play that she wrote.
- 7:37Speaker 2: David sam Martan plays Andre. This movie marks his tenth
- 7:42Speaker 2: acting credit and first Hallmark project. He has also appeared
- 7:46Speaker 2: in nearly thirty commercials from brands like BMW, Jersey, Mike's,
- 7:50Speaker 2: and Home Depot, just to name a few. David is
- 7:53Speaker 2: also an accomplished jazz saxophone player. Catherine Disher plays fellow
- 7:59Speaker 2: cruiser Betty. Catherine is an award winning actor and voice
- 8:02Speaker 2: actor with one hundred and thirty seven acting credits. Goodwitch
- 8:05Speaker 2: fans may recognize her as she appeared in seventy six episodes,
- 8:09Speaker 2: as well as movies like The Goodwitch's Mother and The
- 8:13Speaker 2: Goodwitch's Destiny. She will reprise the role of Betty in
- 8:16Speaker 2: the next two Danube movies and is tapped to play
- 8:18Speaker 2: Maya in The Christmas Chocolateer this holiday season. Catherine Jerisdell
- 8:22Speaker 2: plays Teddy, the Cruz director. She's probably best known for
- 8:27Speaker 2: her role as Genevieve Delacroix on the Netflix series Bridgerton.
- 8:32Speaker 2: She also played Megan Markle in eleven episodes of the
- 8:35Speaker 2: series The Windsors. We will see Catherine reprise her role
- 8:39Speaker 2: as Teddy in the next two Danube movies. Mark Holden
- 8:42Speaker 2: plays the Captain. He has one hundred four acting credits,
- 8:45Speaker 2: including movies like Final Destination and World War Z.
- 8:48Speaker 1: He will also return in the next two Danube movies.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Love on the Danube Love Song was filmed primarily in Budapest, Hungary.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Back in November twenty twenty three. According to these cinemahallic
- 9:00Speaker 2: dot com, for the first time in history, film crews
- 9:04Speaker 2: were allowed to shoot inside the historic fourteenth century Saint
- 9:08Speaker 2: Matthias Church. They also shot during night hours at the
- 9:11Speaker 2: Gaillards Bath in Budapest.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Fun fact, Hallmark Jenny, also known as Hallmark's Chief Fan Officer,
- 9:19Speaker 1: had a cameo in the Vienna National Library reading room
- 9:22Speaker 1: scene of this movie.
- 9:23Speaker 3: She and her mom were.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Guests of Hallmark and got to play an extra in
- 9:25Speaker 1: all three movies.
- 9:28Speaker 3: That's fun, I know.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I messaged her, I was like, you got to go
- 9:31Speaker 2: to Budapest. So she's like yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I was like, that's really freaking cool. What was your
- 9:36Speaker 1: first impression of love on the Danube Love Song?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Well, as a child of the seventies and eighties, I'm
- 9:45Speaker 2: into this love boat vibe.
- 9:48Speaker 1: H oh. My first impression is I was really hoping
- 9:51Speaker 1: we would get Will Will. I was really hoping we
- 9:55Speaker 1: would get Wes Brown singing in this movie. It was
- 9:58Speaker 1: a real bait and switch moment for me. What a miss?
- 10:01Speaker 3: What a miss?
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yeah? So if listeners don't know Wes Brown has a
- 10:08Speaker 2: country Christmas album, is that right? Yeah?
- 10:12Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:13Speaker 1: Is it country he has like I think it's his
- 10:17Speaker 1: Christmas album to me is more like my Michael Bouble adjacent.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Wait, hold on, oh here he is twenty twenty three.
- 10:24Speaker 2: My kind of Christmas. It is not country, guys. It's
- 10:27Speaker 2: like a sexy crooner in a textedo. Can I play
- 10:31Speaker 2: a little snippet of it?
- 10:33Speaker 3: Legally?
- 10:33Speaker 1: No?
- 10:35Speaker 2: Okay, but who would know? Let's say, all right, I won't.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I got the music police on me. Will it the
- 10:42Speaker 2: link to his latest holiday album in our show notes?
- 10:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:47Speaker 2: Man, this is something I want to throw on and
- 10:50Speaker 2: decorate the tree and make cookies too.
- 10:53Speaker 1: It's also linked in our Love on the Danube collection
- 10:57Speaker 1: post on Girls Got Hollwark dot com And all right,
- 11:01Speaker 1: let's talk what we liked about Love on the Danube
- 11:04Speaker 1: love song.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Oh you didn't like this?
- 11:07Speaker 1: Oh no, you're wrong?
- 11:09Speaker 3: Can I tell you something?
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yes?
- 11:12Speaker 1: My first impression prior to watching these movies, like just
- 11:17Speaker 1: the announcement of them, I had zero interest in what
- 11:20Speaker 1: there was like nothing about it. I was like, hmm,
- 11:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest, that is how I felt. I
- 11:24Speaker 1: was not excited. I thought these are like throwaway filler,
- 11:28Speaker 1: bulk up the streamer movies Okay, I feel bad saying
- 11:31Speaker 1: that because in the last few days we've gotten more
- 11:35Speaker 1: eyes on our content from like Hallmark officials. But stick
- 11:37Speaker 1: around for what I'm about to say, because my feeling
- 11:40Speaker 1: after having watched this is that this is a very
- 11:44Speaker 1: solid movie, super enjoyable to watch.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Like all around.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I was a huge fan of Wes and nas nine.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Wes has some like when he's a brush and dust
- 11:57Speaker 1: off her face when they're down in the Oh my god, underground.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It just that these movies were really solid, obviously stunningly
- 12:07Speaker 1: beautiful because they were shot out location. Total pleasant watches.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I don't think they're doing anything super special here, Like
- 12:18Speaker 1: there's not like, oh my gosh, look at that amazing
- 12:20Speaker 1: swing Hallmark took with these movies. But I think this
- 12:24Speaker 1: is what Hallmark does really well.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I agree. I didn't think I would be into this
- 12:31Speaker 2: movie as much as I was. Now in retrospect, now
- 12:36Speaker 2: that Hallmark Plus has launched and I have seen the
- 12:40Speaker 2: first episode of The Chicken Sisters and I have watched
- 12:43Speaker 2: an episode of Celebrations with Lacy Shavert, I'm like, all right,
- 12:46Speaker 2: I see you, Hallmark Plus, Like you're not just like
- 12:49Speaker 2: throwing crap at the streamer to see you know what's
- 12:53Speaker 2: gonna stick or a filler, like there is some solid
- 12:57Speaker 2: content there. I think traditional Hallmark fans who only have
- 13:02Speaker 2: cable TV or only getting the Homework channel are.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Most other ways.
- 13:08Speaker 2: They would love this movie and they're gonna have to
- 13:11Speaker 2: wait for it to come to the Homework Channel. I
- 13:13Speaker 2: think if I could share here a quick little story,
- 13:17Speaker 2: my in laws go on these river cruises quite a bit. Yes,
- 13:22Speaker 2: have been on this one to Budapest, and I never
- 13:27Speaker 2: really like fully understood what they look like because in
- 13:32Speaker 2: my mind, a cruise is a big cruise ship, right,
- 13:36Speaker 2: even though I've never been on a cruise ship either,
- 13:39Speaker 2: Like that's what my mind was. I was like, how
- 13:41Speaker 2: is this big cruise ship on the river? I don't
- 13:46Speaker 2: get it? But now now I see, and now I'm
- 13:49Speaker 2: kind of into it. Now I kind of want to
- 13:51Speaker 2: go on my own trip. Oh I want to do
- 13:54Speaker 2: a river cruise so badly. They're really expensive, but I
- 13:58Speaker 2: think it would be I think it would be a
- 14:02Speaker 2: super cool way to see so many of these places.
- 14:05Speaker 2: And I'm really curious how accurate it seems to me,
- 14:11Speaker 2: Like when you're on a big cruise, it's like a
- 14:14Speaker 2: big production to like pull into port get off.
- 14:17Speaker 1: To me, this seems like so much easier, Like you
- 14:20Speaker 1: just right in the middle of the city. They're just
- 14:23Speaker 1: kind of hanging out there for the day and you
- 14:25Speaker 1: get off to go for a run, you come back,
- 14:26Speaker 1: you get off, go to dinner, come back. It just
- 14:28Speaker 1: seems like a really cool way to see parts of Europe.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And I know that there's other European river cruises, but
- 14:35Speaker 1: I was like, would your husband sooner die than go
- 14:39Speaker 1: on one of these?
- 14:40Speaker 2: No, he totally would because he loves European history, so yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 2: super into it. Like he would be shook if I said, Hey,
- 14:47Speaker 2: I think we should go on one of these river
- 14:49Speaker 2: cruises next year.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you need to be wait out my computer.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Order it up.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you need to wait two years.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Why two years.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Because I don't think your daughter wants to go.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Oh no, she doesn't want to go. Yeah, we'll just
- 15:05Speaker 2: do the empty nest thing. Yes, we'll just turn into
- 15:10Speaker 2: my in laws.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Yeah, and then you're not.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Behold into the school schedule.
- 15:16Speaker 2: What I was also wondering too, is like how much access,
- 15:19Speaker 2: Like how often can you get on and off this
- 15:22Speaker 2: boat and go do these things? Like if we're gonna
- 15:24Speaker 2: go shopping, or we're gonna go see a show, or
- 15:26Speaker 2: we're gonna go out to dinner, or just walk around,
- 15:29Speaker 2: Like can you just hop on and off while it's
- 15:32Speaker 2: docked there?
- 15:34Speaker 1: I mean, you definitely can hop on and off. It's
- 15:36Speaker 1: just a matter of like how long are they spending
- 15:38Speaker 1: in these places because the cities are relatively close together,
- 15:43Speaker 1: so it's like, you know, when you're on a cruise,
- 15:45Speaker 1: they'll tell you like we're docking at eight and you
- 15:47Speaker 1: need to be back on board by five, or we're
- 15:49Speaker 1: leaving without you. I'm sure it's very similar and you
- 15:51Speaker 1: can come and go as you please, but just based
- 15:55Speaker 1: on like the sizes of these ships, it's just so
- 15:57Speaker 1: much easier to just walk on and off throughout the day.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, with all that said, I am excited for
- 16:05Speaker 2: this collection or trilogy of movies because when you have
- 16:10Speaker 2: like the Creuse or the boat being the central spot
- 16:15Speaker 2: with a rotating door of Hallmark actors, it's kind of brilliant.
- 16:20Speaker 3: No Oh, I think it's so cool.
- 16:22Speaker 1: And I don't know if you've read the synopsis for
- 16:25Speaker 1: the upcoming but one of them is like a rom
- 16:28Speaker 1: com Stars cruise.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I was like money.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Are they just riffing on the Hallmark.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Cruise coming up?
- 16:36Speaker 1: So I like that they've taken like a couple different
- 16:40Speaker 1: ideas here. I think it's super smart to like set
- 16:45Speaker 1: the settings, set some of the main characters, keep Katherine
- 16:48Speaker 1: Disher coming for three movies. I actually really loved Katherine Disher.
- 16:53Speaker 1: She's a familiar face. I watched many seasons of The
- 16:55Speaker 1: Good Witch with my daughter where she plays the mayor
- 16:59Speaker 1: in that show. I just really enjoyed her and I
- 17:02Speaker 1: loved her. I'm a cruise person, so I've been on
- 17:04Speaker 1: a lot of cruises and there's always people like this.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Who you know.
- 17:08Speaker 1: In her case, she was basically living on this ship.
- 17:11Speaker 1: On our last cruise, there was a woman She's like,
- 17:13Speaker 1: I didn't even bring my husband this time. I just
- 17:14Speaker 1: came by myself and she made friends with everybody, and
- 17:18Speaker 1: if someone was having a birthday at the pool, she's
- 17:20Speaker 1: like buying them drinks.
- 17:21Speaker 3: And she knew everybody that.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Was in our little area where we were hanging out
- 17:25Speaker 1: the whole time. And a cruise person can really relate
- 17:29Speaker 1: to the Betty Stevenson character. And I think she like
- 17:32Speaker 1: just kind of popped in to offer some nice little
- 17:34Speaker 1: wisdom every now and then.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought it was good. I liked it. You
- 17:39Speaker 2: know what too, I think there's a lot to play
- 17:41Speaker 2: with hair, Like you could do romance, you can do mystery,
- 17:46Speaker 2: even mystery. They don't even have to keep it in
- 17:50Speaker 2: the like somebody falls in love every single time.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Yes, yes, with different directors.
- 17:56Speaker 2: It just could be. There's so much possibility here. What
- 18:01Speaker 2: else did you like?
- 18:02Speaker 1: Julia kind of felt like her career was never fully realized,
- 18:07Speaker 1: and Sarah feels like it was her fault, like she
- 18:10Speaker 1: held her mom back, and I loved the moment where
- 18:13Speaker 1: her mom was like, no, no, no, You're the best.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Thing I ever did.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I would never take any of that back. And I
- 18:19Speaker 1: was singing the same thing, like my life is different
- 18:22Speaker 1: because I had children, and my career trajectory is different
- 18:25Speaker 1: because I had children.
- 18:26Speaker 3: But I would never trade I don't. There's no blame.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I'm not like, oh, wish I didn't have these.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Dumb kids to get in the way, Like kids ruin everything.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I just I realized it's coming from a place of
- 18:38Speaker 1: like I'm going to spend the next twelve months crying
- 18:41Speaker 1: because one of my children is leaving the nest. But
- 18:44Speaker 1: I thought it was a nice moment for Sarah to
- 18:46Speaker 1: get to have with her mom where she was able
- 18:49Speaker 1: to let go of the little bit of guilt she
- 18:51Speaker 1: was feeling that maybe mom didn't have the career she
- 18:54Speaker 1: felt she deserved.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that feels bad, Like I didn't want how sad
- 18:59Speaker 2: that she she like shouldered that forever and thought it
- 19:02Speaker 2: was her fault. You know, Yeah, I doubt our kids
- 19:06Speaker 2: think that.
- 19:09Speaker 1: No, our children are teenagers, so I don't think they
- 19:13Speaker 1: have that level of self awareness.
- 19:15Speaker 2: No, but another twenty years at least.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Yeah, at least.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I love the whole switcheroo, the reverse parent trap. Yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 2: I love that they like mentioned that twice. I thought
- 19:28Speaker 2: it was very funny. I liked that they did it
- 19:31Speaker 2: to Sarah and Jack. Obviously Sarah and Jack had a
- 19:33Speaker 2: lot in common, but they were most concerned with, you know,
- 19:36Speaker 2: hooking their parents up then seeking out love themselves. I
- 19:41Speaker 2: like the way that this story was handled in terms
- 19:45Speaker 2: of like, hey, we want to set our parents up,
- 19:47Speaker 2: but oh, look at us, we have a lot in
- 19:49Speaker 2: common too, And then the parents were really like, we're
- 19:52Speaker 2: not in that place yet, so let's turn our focus
- 19:55Speaker 2: back on you guys.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It was clever I enjoyed it, and I really liked
- 19:59Speaker 1: that they just allow the parents to just end at like, hey,
- 20:01Speaker 1: we made a friend, we made a connection, we had
- 20:03Speaker 1: a good time, yus.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I mean that's what you want. I mean if I
- 20:09Speaker 2: was in this scenario, I I my parent was alone,
- 20:15Speaker 2: I would want them to meet people. I wouldn't necessarily
- 20:18Speaker 2: be like, oh, here's your next spouse, right, I would
- 20:22Speaker 2: be like, let's meet some people, make some friends and friends. Yeah,
- 20:26Speaker 2: you want them to have a full life as well.
- 20:28Speaker 2: So I love that. Like Sarah and Jack, there was
- 20:31Speaker 2: like no hygiinks with it. It just was like, okay,
- 20:35Speaker 2: like that's it, you know. Yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I love Jack slim when he's talking about his dad
- 20:39Speaker 1: and he's like she wants them to go to the
- 20:41Speaker 1: bats and he's like his idea of relaxing is floating
- 20:44Speaker 1: down the river with a koozie.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Loved it. Yeah, I thought that was good too. Speaking
- 20:49Speaker 2: of Jack and his dad, I cried during the scene
- 20:53Speaker 2: in the library when they present him. Yeah, I mean
- 20:57Speaker 2: I felt like it was a little bit contribed, but
- 21:01Speaker 2: the moment that Jack and his dad have after the
- 21:04Speaker 2: gift has been presented to him, like he's like, thank you, son,
- 21:06Speaker 2: I love you son or whatever. I just was like, oh,
- 21:09Speaker 2: I thought it was quite touching. And I have a
- 21:13Speaker 2: couple more things. I figured we'd have this big moment
- 21:17Speaker 2: at the end when Julia the mom steps into the
- 21:20Speaker 2: spotlight right center slag. But for me, the scene I
- 21:25Speaker 2: loved is when she sings that duet with Betty and
- 21:27Speaker 2: Sarah's playing the piano. I just thought it was so good.
- 21:31Speaker 2: It was so entertaining. Yeah, and damn can she sing.
- 21:35Speaker 2: She can sing? And Betty too. The actress dep is Betty.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I can't remember her name off hannd you just said
- 21:40Speaker 2: it Caine, No, No, Catherine Disher. Yeah, she can sing too.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Yeah, that was fun.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I just thought that was super fun. I wish there
- 21:48Speaker 2: was more people around who have like enjoyed it. It
- 21:51Speaker 2: feels like they were in some like back haul on
- 21:54Speaker 2: the cruise ship playing this piano and singing.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But I needed a few more background actors to fill
- 22:02Speaker 1: out how full the ship would have actually been.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Right, I agree too. One final thing I really liked,
- 22:08Speaker 2: and you kind of mentioned it earlier, But the site
- 22:11Speaker 2: we have talked about this over the years when we
- 22:13Speaker 2: review movies, is like, we don't want the destination to overtake.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Like the story of the movie, I thought the scenes
- 22:24Speaker 2: from Hungary were beautiful, and yeah, I just I enjoyed
- 22:30Speaker 2: that we had this like European non royal destination. Yes, yes,
- 22:38Speaker 2: you know. Plus it's the homeland of my dogs, so
- 22:40Speaker 2: I would love to go there.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Somebody, well, hey, yes, these shows are Hungarian.
- 22:47Speaker 2: They are.
- 22:48Speaker 1: That's very interesting. Let's talk wishes. Okay, I first of
- 22:52Speaker 1: all have a confession to make, and that it's a
- 22:54Speaker 1: head to look up a map to see where the
- 22:55Speaker 1: Danube River runs. Okay, didn't know that. Second, I'm going
- 23:01Speaker 1: to be annoying, and I'm just gonna say, like it's
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's okay. If you value your career more than having
- 23:08Speaker 1: a family, that's a fine choice to make too. I
- 23:11Speaker 1: was kind of annoyed with a couple things with that
- 23:14Speaker 1: part of the story, with her working too much and
- 23:17Speaker 1: like her mom being annoyed that, like Sarah was on
- 23:20Speaker 1: her phone and she was like, can you put that away?
- 23:22Speaker 1: My hang up on it is that, Like, well, obviously.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Her work was important and even though she's on a vacation,
- 23:28Speaker 2: sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
- 23:31Speaker 2: But also she was on a vacation, so I feel like.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I know, I feel really torn about that. I don't
- 23:37Speaker 1: know if you've seen like sometimes in the Facebook group
- 23:40Speaker 1: for the Hallmark crews, people are like, oh, how's the WiFi.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Other people are like, don't use Wi Fi. Disconnect for
- 23:45Speaker 1: a week, and it's like okay.
- 23:47Speaker 3: People have like.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Different things that are important and different reasons they might
- 23:51Speaker 1: want to have access to Wi Fi. I think, if
- 23:54Speaker 1: you're on vacation with your mom, like yes, making an
- 23:56Speaker 1: effort to focus on that, but the trip was more
- 24:00Speaker 1: like her mom was going to do this job and
- 24:03Speaker 1: this was when the time was, and so she went,
- 24:05Speaker 1: but she still had to work during that time, et cetera. Anyway,
- 24:09Speaker 1: we're in the weeds. I wish that Julia had some
- 24:11Speaker 1: more confidence in that shopping scene. She references more than
- 24:17Speaker 1: once about that outfit being for someone younger, and I
- 24:22Speaker 1: thought she was incredibly chic, like a woman who has
- 24:26Speaker 1: who can like rock that heavy eyeliner like she does.
- 24:29Speaker 1: She can pull off knee high boots and a skirt
- 24:32Speaker 1: and you know, yes, I.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Was like, why are we? Why are we? You're telling
- 24:37Speaker 2: us that she is not confident when she clearly looks
- 24:40Speaker 2: confident to me. No, she had spent her entire career
- 24:43Speaker 2: on stage, but she was so afraid to like move
- 24:48Speaker 2: into center stage. And I just that doesn't I mean,
- 24:53Speaker 2: I've never been an actor or anything like that, So
- 24:57Speaker 2: I don't know if there's where the two things can exist,
- 25:03Speaker 2: being like comfortable on stage but not but not the lead.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it. I can't speak to that either. I
- 25:10Speaker 3: don't know either.
- 25:11Speaker 1: But obviously she was incredibly talented, and maybe just from
- 25:16Speaker 1: years and years of being in the ensemble, she had
- 25:19Speaker 1: convinced herself like that's where I'm belong Well, speaking of ensemble,
- 25:23Speaker 1: they said in this movie, and it was so grating
- 25:26Speaker 1: to me, they said, oh, she was just in the
- 25:28Speaker 1: chorus at least three times.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Take just out of it first of all, and stop dismissing.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Like the roles that she played. Go see a musical
- 25:37Speaker 1: without the chorus. It's pretty freaking boring. Like go see
- 25:40Speaker 1: Hamilton without all of those background actors, like making those
- 25:45Speaker 1: dances what they are, isn't the same show.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I have one more wish. I wish there was more
- 25:54Speaker 2: stuff on the boat. I know they did a lot
- 25:56Speaker 2: of stuff like in the city, but to me, there
- 25:59Speaker 2: wasn't an enough stuff on the boat.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Yeah, a lounge, a bar, restaurant, yeah, exactly, one of
- 26:06Speaker 1: them like doing trivia and bingo, playing the slot machines.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, me too. I have so many did you
- 26:14Speaker 3: see that?
- 26:15Speaker 2: Do you? I only have two? Well, go ahead, okay.
- 26:19Speaker 2: The first one, did you see the room that Sarah
- 26:22Speaker 2: and Julia shared?
- 26:23Speaker 1: Oh, there's no way, there's no that's like the size
- 26:28Speaker 1: of the captain's quarters. I was honestly thinking, like, do
- 26:32Speaker 1: not get excited, Wendy, because our rooms are going to
- 26:35Speaker 1: be the size of their bathroom.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I was like, this is not a real room. This
- 26:41Speaker 2: looks like a penthouse.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Sweet yes, Carlton hare, yeah, not on a boat.
- 26:46Speaker 2: The second thing was shout out Emerald Cruises, Like, okay,
- 26:50Speaker 2: we see that that's the cruise line that they were on.
- 26:53Speaker 2: So I only knew the one that they Viking.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Did they take Viking?
- 26:57Speaker 2: They took Viking? Yeah, Emerald apparently so cool?
- 27:01Speaker 3: Put on them? What did you do?
- 27:03Speaker 2: All? Right?
- 27:03Speaker 1: First of all, there's a scene where West and nasnine
- 27:07Speaker 1: are out on the outer rim of the ship and
- 27:10Speaker 1: they're like cruising down the river. It's obviously green screen
- 27:13Speaker 1: on the boat exterior, but at one point they pass
- 27:16Speaker 1: underneath the bridge and the lighting doesn't even change in
- 27:19Speaker 1: that moment. It's just like they're still perfectly lit, and
- 27:23Speaker 1: it was just noticeable.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Did you guys touch the strudal reference?
- 27:30Speaker 2: The apple strudel reference deserves out? And how she would
- 27:34Speaker 2: make it for her husband when he was alive.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I just can't see a movie where they say the
- 27:39Speaker 1: word strudel eight times in a span of ninety seconds
- 27:42Speaker 1: without thinking of our winter in veil brutal fast.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Well, you know who did winter and veil? Terry Ingram the.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Dry nice Paul. Okay, Next, you've heard people say like,
- 27:58Speaker 1: my Roman Empire is blank? Right, yes, I thank you
- 28:01Speaker 1: for bringing that up. I had forgotten about that. So, like,
- 28:04Speaker 1: I don't know when this happened. A year ago, maybe
- 28:07Speaker 1: someone came someone started talking about on the idea like
- 28:10Speaker 1: you know, men think about the Roman Empire at least
- 28:12Speaker 1: once a day, and it just became this thing. Women
- 28:14Speaker 1: were like asking their husbands like how often do you
- 28:16Speaker 1: think about the Roman Empire? And so many men were
- 28:18Speaker 1: like all the time. So then it became like, what's
- 28:22Speaker 1: your Roman Empire? What's the thing that you think about?
- 28:25Speaker 1: And that's very much like an internet meme. Did you
- 28:29Speaker 1: know men think about the Roman Empire.
- 28:32Speaker 2: And his response, of course he talks about the Roman Empire.
- 28:37Speaker 2: It was hilarious and I think that it's really it
- 28:42Speaker 2: really shows like when this was written obviously, yeah, you
- 28:46Speaker 2: know it was filmed in November twenty twenty three.
- 28:48Speaker 3: It was probably written.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Some time before that, but a pull from like pop
- 28:53Speaker 2: culture that was really big for.
- 28:55Speaker 1: A minute, yes, and it has made its way into
- 28:59Speaker 1: the cultural conversation to the point now people without the
- 29:02Speaker 1: backstory all the time are posting like my Roman Empire
- 29:05Speaker 1: is like people still use that phrasing.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Finally, this is just going to be a me thing.
- 29:12Speaker 1: However, if you are a fan of the movie Love Actually,
- 29:16Speaker 1: there is a scene where Laura Lennie is hooking up
- 29:18Speaker 1: with the hottest guy you've ever seen and her brother
- 29:21Speaker 1: interrupts with the phone call and the first time she
- 29:24Speaker 1: answers the phone and it interrupts her moment, and then
- 29:26Speaker 1: he calls again and I cannot think of the character's name.
- 29:31Speaker 1: He's just super hawk eye and glasses. It says, will
- 29:34Speaker 1: it change anything if you answer the phone? And she
- 29:37Speaker 1: says no, and she answers it anyway, And every time
- 29:39Speaker 1: I see that movie, I want her to not pick
- 29:41Speaker 1: up the phone because you've been in love with this
- 29:44Speaker 1: guy for so long and he's here and he's naked,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and it will not change anything. Now, flash forward to
- 29:50Speaker 1: Love on the Daniebe Love song. Sarah and Jack are walking.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Her boss calls and Jack says, what's gonna help? And
- 30:00Speaker 1: if you don't answer, and she says, oh, she'll lock
- 30:03Speaker 1: me in a tower. And he goes, is that the
- 30:04Speaker 1: worst that could happen? And she's like, actually, that is
- 30:07Speaker 1: the worst that could happen.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I'm not gonna answer it.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And I was like, Oh, this is the redemption Love
- 30:11Speaker 1: Actually moment I've been waiting for my entire life.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I notoriously don't like that movie. I know, if anybody
- 30:20Speaker 2: knows I'm a former Hallmark hater, probably can put two
- 30:23Speaker 2: and two together that Love Actually is not one of
- 30:26Speaker 2: my favorites. My point I was gonna make is I
- 30:29Speaker 2: hated that trope. You're gonna lose your job, Like I'm
- 30:32Speaker 2: over that trope. That's all. That's all I was gonna say.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Cool, what'd you rate this movie?
- 30:37Speaker 1: I gave it three and a half stars, me too, precisely.
- 30:41Speaker 1: All right, thank you for listening to this episode of
- 30:44Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark. I'll be back next week with so
