- 0:11Let's talk about guns, the Second Amendment America. Welcome to the second hour
- 0:20of the Morning Show with Preston Scott Im Preston. That is Grant. Great
- 0:24to be with you. It is Show fifty one one and we are joined
- 0:29by the Gun Writer. You can find his work at the gun Writer dot
- 0:33substack dot com. He is Lee Williams. Good morning, sir. How
- 0:37are you good man? How are you doing? Thanks for havving me back.
- 0:40Oh. I look forward to this visit every month. Lee. Look,
- 0:44you're a Floridian right and paying attention to what's going on. We knew
- 0:50early on in the legislative session that Senate President Pasadomo was not going to entertain
- 0:55an expansion of constitutional carry to full open kerry, which is where we need
- 1:00to be. That being said, I want to ask you a question.
- 1:03I asked Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group on Wednesday. Why are the
- 1:08sheriffs of this state, who at least a majority are certainly conservative leaning,
- 1:17if nothing else, why are they allowing themselves to be the excuse for not
- 1:22going full constitutional carry? Do you have any insight? The better question is
- 1:27for me, why is a Senate President Pasadomo allowing a group of law enforcement
- 1:34officers to veto our Second Amendment rights, our civil rights. Why are our
- 1:40civil rights dependent on what a bunch of sheriffs have to say. I don't
- 1:44care what their political leanings are. Quite frankly, I'm more struck by the
- 1:49fact that our Senate president is allowing sheriffs to veto our constitutional rights. That's
- 1:56what gets me angry and makes me want to use a lot of bad words.
- 1:59Allowing shriffs to infringe upon our at least blaming them to infringe upon our
- 2:04Second Amendment rights. Open carry, whether you want to do it or not,
- 2:07is a key component of the right to keep the bare arms, which
- 2:09has codified both in the Second Amendment and in the Florida Constitution, Article one,
- 2:15Section eight. It is part of the Second Amendment. It's like getting
- 2:17half of our civil rights. And she makes this mannylike decision and then blames
- 2:25it on sheriffs. Well, she needs to stop allowing sheriffs to veto our
- 2:30Second Amendment rights. But and I don't disagree. But I but if the
- 2:35sheriffs pull cover from her and say, what are you talking about the majority
- 2:40of our association supports it. Then all of a sudden, she's stuck.
- 2:46Yeah, there are a few that do not support the Second Amendment in that
- 2:50Sheriff's organization, and we cannot wait until they make their way through leadership and
- 2:53become just regular members. Again, we've caught one using talking points in some
- 3:00of his public addresses from some of these gun band from the gun ban industry.
- 3:05So you know, I don't care where that Florida Shurf's Association is going
- 3:08politically. She needs to stop using them to veto our Second Amendment rights.
- 3:15We have super majorities in both the House and the Senate. Okay, but
- 3:20you know, just like before when we tried to get constitutional carry, one
- 3:24anti gun leader like Passadomo and boom, they infringe upon our civil rights and
- 3:30that has to end. This leads perfectly to a piece you've written about how
- 3:35Joe Biden's Office of Gun Violence for Prevention is directing the war on guns.
- 3:40Explain, Well, we had the beautiful Supreme Court decision twenty twenty two Bruin,
- 3:46which part of which said you can carry a gun outside the home for
- 3:50self defense regardless of your zip code. Well, the gun the Blue States
- 3:54went crazy and they started passing all of these post Bruin tantrum laws that they
- 4:00knew were unconstitutional. Well, they were all similar, and we're like,
- 4:03where the hell are these coming from. They're practically the same wording. Well,
- 4:08they've been coming from the White House. Two months after Bruin, Biden,
- 4:12one of the senior Biden advisors, Stephanie Feldman, started meeting with the
- 4:15states, with lawmakers, with judges, with lieutenant governors, and then a
- 4:21couple months later, in September of last year, Biden announces the Office of
- 4:27Gun Violence Prevention, which is in the White House. He staffed it with
- 4:30Feldman, who is one of his long time I mean she started in government
- 4:33as an interned with Biden, and then she got two other people, and
- 4:38all three of them are anti gunzel It's one comes from the gun band industry
- 4:41and the other had a small anti gun nonprofit. And it's in the White
- 4:46House. So my boss, the Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb, I
- 4:48think said it best, and at risk of boring your readers, I'm going
- 4:51to quote them because it's just a trench in quote. For the first time
- 4:55in the history of the United States, a president has created an office within
- 4:59the White House solely to find ways to circumvent and violate the Constitution, mister
- 5:03Gottlieb said, And do not forget that taxpayer dollars are supporting this abomination.
- 5:10We are paying the Biden Harris administration to violate our civil rights, and they're
- 5:15going crazy about it. Lee, Let's take a page from what we've seen
- 5:28Biden do with just the student loan issue. The Supreme Court renders are ruling,
- 5:32says you don't have the authority, you can't do it. He says,
- 5:34well, I'm going to forget that. I'm going to find another way
- 5:38to do it. That's a pattern that this administration and frankly illiberals on the
- 5:42left follow. They do what they want until the court stops them. How
- 5:46much are we going to just have to rely on and hope for court interventions
- 5:50on the things they're trying to do to slam the gun industry, to slam
- 5:55our civil rights. We've already seen it, and the courts are already doing
- 5:59it. Biden's cub all of anti gun people in the White House have pushed
- 6:05the ATF into criminalizing bump stocks, pistol braces, aftermarket triggers, locks of
- 6:14metal that they say, could be turned into a firearm, and the courts
- 6:16are slapping all of these down and they just keep going, man, I
- 6:20mean, they just keep going, knowing full well that they're going to get
- 6:24overturned by the courts. Like it's cool, Like they don't care. Now
- 6:28we're going to see that statement for Biden that he made. I mean,
- 6:30all of us in the second amend of Community just rolled our eyes like,
- 6:34yeah, we've seen this going on for months, years already since Joe was
- 6:40elected. He doesn't care what the Supreme Court says. We think, however,
- 6:46that that's just going to energize at Supreme Court right now. Second amend
- 6:49of Foundation, NRA, Gun Owners of America and National Association and Gun Rights
- 6:54are all asking very politely but very insistently asking the Supreme Court to review the
- 7:00Illinois assault weapon ban are so called assault weapon ban. We think this will
- 7:03be the case that will overturn all of this crap about America's most popular rifle
- 7:11and folks will be able to own the best tool to defend themselves regardless of
- 7:15where they live. Right now, your ability to own an AR or an
- 7:18AK depends on your zip code here in Florida, Thankfully we live in a
- 7:23semi free state. We can own them. You can't in California, you
- 7:27can't in Illinois, can'ton Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Hawahi, you
- 7:31name it. That should not be the case. Your rights should not be
- 7:34dependent upon where you live. So we're hoping that the court is so angry
- 7:40at what the Biden Harris administration is doing to our civil rights today that they'll
- 7:45take it out and start getting up some more victories. You know, we've
- 7:48been paying attention to a bill it's likely not to pass the House, but
- 7:53Democrats try to introduce a bill that in essence would ban any level of training
- 7:58at a gun range. Let's yes, you wrote about what goes on in
- 8:01Finland. Tell us a little bit about that. Well. Being a proud
- 8:05half thin, I am very proud of the country from where my grandparents came.
- 8:11Finland has an eight hundred and thirty mile border with Russia, and they
- 8:16take the Soviet Union or the former Soviet Union, very seriously because they've been
- 8:20invaded and they kicked their butt. So Finland incorporates armed citizens into their national
- 8:26defense plan, which I think is brilliant. And you know, they just
- 8:30joined NATO last year and Putin vowed to retaliate. So well, the Fins
- 8:35take that seriously. So they're increasing the availability of rifle ranges to their citizens
- 8:41who are part of their plan, part of their defensive plan. They're building
- 8:45three hundred more ranges, and some one of my readers did the math for
- 8:48a country of our size to make an increase of an increase of that amount,
- 8:54we would need thirty thousand more ranges. And I hope we get a
- 8:58You know, it's one thing to keep and bear, it's another thing to
- 9:01have access to range. A lot of these blue states they're not going to
- 9:05let you train anywhere. Man, It's sad. So we want to finish
- 9:07example which would work. Biden Harris administration considers armed civilians, armed trained civilians
- 9:16to be the enemy. Finland considers them part of their national defensive plan.
- 9:20And I would maintain that, whether they admit it or not, we are
- 9:24part of our national defense plan, which is why our country's never been well
- 9:28targeted with a full military invasion versus what's going on on the southern border right
- 9:33now. I would agree. I would just say we need to be that
- 9:37needs to be respected by the government agreed, you know, if we are
- 9:41part of it and stop trying to take our damn guns away. Though I
- 9:50am loath to go here because I'm an ardent belief, have an ardent belief
- 9:58that black history is American history and how to be taught that way, not
- 10:05segregated out. How ironic right. Lee Williams, thegunwriter dot substack dot com,
- 10:11has written a piece that really speaks to Black History Month as it relates
- 10:16to the Second Amendment. Lee, go, this is a brilliant piece.
- 10:22Thank you. It was fun. It was an idea from Alan Gottlieb,
- 10:26the founder of the Second Amendment Foundation. He said, why don't you write
- 10:28it, but take a look at this. Call these guys up. And
- 10:31I got to tell you, man, I had a great time and I
- 10:33learned so much doing this. I mean, you got to look at the
- 10:37tradition of arms as different for Black Americans. There were codes after the Civil
- 10:41War that prevented them from oting firearms. That was there, and that's why
- 10:45gun control has its roots in racism. YEP. In Florida, you know,
- 10:50a white person could enter a black owned home and just look for guns
- 10:52without a warrant. Louisiana, white folks could stop blacks wherever they were at
- 10:56searching for weapons. If they refuse, they could use leaf force. And
- 11:01you can't mention Black history and firearms without mentioning the Reverend Martin Luther King.
- 11:07He was denied a carry permit by the Sheriff's office in Montgomery, Alabama after
- 11:11his home was firebomb Okay, Martin was a gun owner, and he believed
- 11:18in self defense. Obviously he espoused, you know, nonviolent political action,
- 11:22but he was a gun owner. Same with Malcolm x Ei. There's that
- 11:26famous picture of him with the m one carbing looking out his window scared.
- 11:30So I talked to Robert Kottrell, who is a professor. He's a law
- 11:33professor at George Washington University, probably one of the top three minds scholars in
- 11:41the Second Amendment world. And it was just fantastic. I ran the interview
- 11:46with him as a Q and A because his words, I just couldn't paraphrase
- 11:52anything he said. It was just too important. And he talks about the
- 11:56black codes. He talks about firearm ownership getting lower among blacks, but now
- 12:01it's finally catching up. But I spoke to the Reverend Ken Blanchard and He
- 12:05wrote a book that I think should be on everybody's bookshelf, Black Man with
- 12:09a Gun. It's an ownership manual, but when it came out, it's
- 12:15designed for first time gun owners who are black, but it should be required
- 12:20reading for anybody who wants to start talking and getting into the gun world.
- 12:24It is a fantastic book. And he said he when he got out of
- 12:28the military's brain and when he got out of federal law enforcement, he just
- 12:31wanted to start teaching and training. But he had to overcome hundreds of years
- 12:37of conditioning. It was bad, I mean three hundred years of cultural conditioning
- 12:43that said to blacks, guns are bad, leave them alone. Even the
- 12:50gun owners he was running into were pretty much undercover and not public about owning
- 12:56guns. And then we looked at the the great Walter E. Williams.
- 13:01He's a professor. Unfortunately he passed away in twenty twenty and I resurrected some
- 13:05of his columns. His column appeared in more than one hundred and fifty newspapers.
- 13:11He was an economist, a great friend of the libertarian mister Sowell,
- 13:13a professor Sowell and man did he have an acerbic wit in his column when
- 13:20Congressman John Lewis said the British are not coming. We don't need guns to
- 13:24kill people, Williams just handed him his hat with his head in it.
- 13:28A brilliant writer. I've been reading his columns that are still out there online
- 13:33ever since. Was eulogized by Ted Cruz, who said his legacy will endure
- 13:39as we continue to fight for liberty. It was really fun, President,
- 13:43and I learned a heck of a lot. And let me tell you,
- 13:46Professor cottro has a new book coming out that's going to be huge in the
- 13:48Second Amendment world, to trust the people with arms. He looks at the
- 13:52Supreme Court the Second Amendment. I asked him if he was a black scholar
- 14:00or a scholar who just happened to be black, and he said both.
- 14:03You can't separate what he and his people have gone through culturally. And a
- 14:09fantastic interview and a great guy. You know, when you mentioned doctor Williams,
- 14:15it makes me smile because he was a friend of ours. He was
- 14:18a regular guest. Wow, he was a regular guest on my show.
- 14:22And never ever did I send him a note asking him to come on the
- 14:24program that he didn't respond Within within hours, and just a gentleman and as
- 14:31you as you note, a brilliant mind, and it's we lost a treasure
- 14:37when we lost doctor Williams. What what is the biggest takeaway for you having
- 14:43spent time in this case talking to and reading about these three men. Wow,
- 14:52I would say that what they said about how the Second Amendment affected them
- 14:58and how blacks in general were treated, it's still going on today. We're
- 15:03still seeing the same type of discrimination in this case with the Second Amendment that
- 15:07they faced in their youth. Look at the Biden Harris administration. They're still
- 15:11trying to ban guns in public housing. People are being discriminated against in terms
- 15:16of the Second Amendment based upon their race. Look at Chicago. Look at
- 15:20how difficult it is for these urban cities for people to own guns for self
- 15:24defense. Now, keep keeping that in mind. You know, the largest
- 15:28segment of new gun buyers right now are black females, and they're finally getting
- 15:33through, getting passed this racial conditioning, this cultural conditioning, and they're realizing,
- 15:39you know, I got drug deals being committed right outside my front door.
- 15:43I want a gun for self defense. And they're buying them, and
- 15:45they're getting trained which I think is fantastic. Awesome stuff. As always great
- 15:50catching up with you, Lee, Thanks so much, we'll talk next month.
- 15:52My pleasure, take care. Thank you, Lee Williams. And again
- 15:56you find his work at the gun Writer dot substack dot com
