- 0:00Speaker 1: Someone made a true crime documentary about my death. But
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm still here. A few months ago, I got an
- 0:10Speaker 1: email at three in the morning. Life Rights Inquiry. Untitled project.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Wes Bennett. Documentary producer. I looked him up. He'd done
- 0:21Speaker 1: two films I actually recognized. The kind that get nominated
- 0:26Speaker 1: for things. He said he'd spent the past year developing
- 0:30Speaker 1: a story about me. Wanted to talk. I couldn't imagine
- 0:36Speaker 1: what about my life was worth documenting. Hi, Cassie. Hi, Caitlin. Hi,
- 0:43Speaker 1: creepy people.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Hello!
- 0:45Speaker 1: Hello! This is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where we chat
- 0:51Speaker 1: about true crime, the paranormal... We are doing something a
- 0:57Speaker 1: little bit different today. We're still probably going to do
- 1:01Speaker 1: a tarot reading. I don't know. We'll see how we
- 1:02Speaker 1: feel when we get there. We have to. Okay. Well,
- 1:06Speaker 1: we'll see.
- 1:06Speaker 3: That's our thing.
- 1:07Speaker 1: It's kind of our thing. I came across a story
- 1:13Speaker 1: that I thought, holy shit, if I told someone to
- 1:20Speaker 1: write a story that would somehow combine tarot our two
- 1:24Speaker 1: genres flawlessly, what would it be about? It would be
- 1:29Speaker 1: about this. This is that story. Murder and ghosts? Maybe.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Maybe. A little bit.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Or is it like a bank robbery and cryptids? Oh,
- 1:41Speaker 1: that would be so cool. Bigfoot robbed a bank.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 1: That would be sick. That would be sick.
- 1:50Speaker 2: No.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Damn it. Okay. Okay. So I had a different story
- 1:56Speaker 1: by this same Reddit user that I actually reached out
- 2:01Speaker 1: to them about first. Oh, cool. Yeah. Okay. So PieEater727,
- 2:10Speaker 1: thank you so much because I almost was like, okay,
- 2:16Speaker 1: be cool. I definitely was. It wasn't almost. I was
- 2:20Speaker 1: definitely like, be cool, be cool, be cool. because I'd
- 2:23Speaker 1: already gotten their approval to read a different story, and
- 2:26Speaker 1: I was like, what if they think we're just greedy now?
- 2:29Speaker 1: But I was like, if I can't read any other
- 2:32Speaker 1: Reddit story possibly ever, I want to read this one.
- 2:38Speaker 1: We're starting with a scary story that somehow is the
- 2:41Speaker 1: stuff of both of our nightmares. We'll also hear about
- 2:47Speaker 1: an unsettling encounter that And then maybe we'll see. Maybe
- 2:53Speaker 1: we'll wrap up our time today with what I thought might,
- 2:57Speaker 1: depending on the interpretation, be considered a palate cleanser. So
- 3:01Speaker 1: we'll just see how you feel about it when we
- 3:05Speaker 1: get there. Someone made a true crime documentary about my death,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but I'm still here. Oh! Spooky.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It reminds me of like when celebrities, like they, someone fakes,
- 3:21Speaker 2: puts out that they had died and then they read
- 3:24Speaker 2: it or like their friends read it and like try
- 3:25Speaker 2: to contact them and be like, are you dead, bro?
- 3:27Speaker 1: Are you dead, bro?
- 3:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, okay. All right. Well, save your guesses, interpretations,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and pee until the end. A few months ago, I
- 3:43Speaker 1: got an email at three in the morning. Life Rights Inquiry.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Untitled project. Wes Bennett. Documentary producer. I looked him up.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He'd done two films I actually recognized. The kind that
- 3:59Speaker 1: get nominated for things. He said he'd spent the past
- 4:02Speaker 1: year developing a story about me. Wanted to talk. I
- 4:08Speaker 1: couldn't imagine what about my life was worth documenting. He
- 4:13Speaker 1: signed off with a coffee shop three blocks from my apartment.
- 4:17Speaker 1: He was already sitting when I arrived. Latte on the table,
- 4:22Speaker 1: made exactly how I take it, down to the extra
- 4:25Speaker 1: shot I usually get. Hell yeah, me too. I was like,
- 4:29Speaker 1: this is where Cassie gets so invested. Yeah, extra shot.
- 4:33Speaker 1: She's a Derby's girl. I save all my points to
- 4:36Speaker 1: buy the extra shot. A leather folder sat under his
- 4:42Speaker 1: hand like it might try to leave without him. We
- 4:45Speaker 1: talked about my life, my childhood, my job, the street
- 4:50Speaker 1: I grew up on. At first, it was almost flattering.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I remember relaxing into it, laughing at something he said.
- 4:59Speaker 1: He had a charm you didn't notice until it closed
- 5:02Speaker 1: around you. Then he mentioned a third act. Is he
- 5:08Speaker 1: going to kill her?
- 5:10Speaker 3: I figured it out.
- 5:14Speaker 1: A stretch where I go quiet.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Pull away.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Get hard to reach. The front door, one night, wouldn't
- 5:23Speaker 1: be locked the way I left it. No forced entry.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I was so confused. Asked him what kind of documentary
- 5:33Speaker 1: was this supposed to be? True crime, he said, like
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'd missed something obvious. I laughed. The alternative was worse.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Who's crying?
- 5:45Speaker 1: He looked at me the way you look at a
- 5:47Speaker 1: child who's asked something idiotic. Open the folder, absent-minded. Photographs.
- 5:55Speaker 1: My building. My hallway. My front door, shot from an
- 6:00Speaker 1: angle that didn't exist unless the camera stood inside my apartment,
- 6:05Speaker 1: looking out. Ooh, I got chills. That's creepy. My chair
- 6:12Speaker 1: screeched against the floor before I knew I'd stood. Wes
- 6:15Speaker 1: closed the folder with the same calm he'd opened it.
- 6:19Speaker 1: We already have most of the footage, he said. I
- 6:22Speaker 1: just wanted you to know your side gets told too.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Seemed like the ethical thing to do. Dude, this is
- 6:31Speaker 1: really creepy.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Is he like the documentary serial killer where he like
- 6:36Speaker 2: Does the documentary about the killing, but like he killed them?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Could be.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I blocked his number that night. Email, phone, the production
- 6:44Speaker 1: company's main line. A week of nothing. One night, my
- 6:49Speaker 1: neighbor mentioned in passing that a man had come by
- 6:53Speaker 1: asking questions about me for a film project. He said
- 6:57Speaker 1: it as a compliment, like I'd made it big. Couldn't
- 7:01Speaker 1: remember the name. Was pretty sure he'd signed something. I
- 7:06Speaker 1: swear things in my apartment started moving around after that.
- 7:12Speaker 1: A mug two inches from where I'd set it. A
- 7:15Speaker 1: chair turned toward the window like someone had been staging
- 7:20Speaker 1: it for a shot. Ooh, it sounds like some books
- 7:23Speaker 1: that I read.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Right?
- 7:26Speaker 1: I stopped sleeping right. Awake at strange hours. Certain I
- 7:31Speaker 1: heard a shutter click. Hide under the covers. Hold my
- 7:35Speaker 1: breath until my chest burned. I never saw a camera.
- 7:39Speaker 1: That absence became its own kind of animal. A wrongness
- 7:44Speaker 1: under the skin. The way you feel a fever coming on.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I moved. Told no one the new address. Not even
- 7:52Speaker 1: my mother. That's exactly what you should do. I know, right?
- 7:57Speaker 1: Kind of sounds like you got the right idea. You're
- 8:00Speaker 1: in wit sec now. One sleepless night. I opened a
- 8:05Speaker 1: streaming service looking for something to fill the quiet. A
- 8:09Speaker 1: thumbnail stopped my thumb before my brain caught up. My face.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Badly lit.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Mid-laugh. A title underneath. Plain sight. A documentary. One hour,
- 8:23Speaker 1: 33 minutes. Released today. My hands went cold before I
- 8:28Speaker 1: pressed play. The first 20 minutes were the coffee shop.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Our conversations. cut tight, scored with ominous strings. Wes's voice
- 8:40Speaker 1: pitching to a version of me who looked far more
- 8:42Speaker 1: frightened on screen than I remember feeling in the room.
- 8:47Speaker 1: My old building, my neighbor telling the camera how we met,
- 8:51Speaker 1: my front door filmed from inside looking out. No. That
- 8:57Speaker 1: angle again. A news segment, the kind that runs after
- 9:02Speaker 1: a body turns up. a reporter at the edge of
- 9:06Speaker 1: a tree line, floodlights, officers moving through underbrush, heads down,
- 9:12Speaker 1: sweeping flashlights over the ground. The reporter said my full
- 9:17Speaker 1: name into the microphone. Cut to my mother in the
- 9:20Speaker 1: house I grew up in, sitting too straight at the
- 9:23Speaker 1: kitchen table, hands folded like she's bracing for news that
- 9:27Speaker 1: hasn't quite hit her yet. She looked into the lens,
- 9:32Speaker 1: said how she misses her daughter, wishes she could hear
- 9:35Speaker 1: her voice again. The tree line again, closer now. A
- 9:40Speaker 1: stuffed rabbit, half sunk in wet leaves. The one that
- 9:44Speaker 1: slept on my bed since I was six. The one
- 9:49Speaker 1: sitting on the shelf behind me right now. The camera moved, slow, reverent.
- 9:57Speaker 1: There I was, face down, in the dirt, a coat
- 10:02Speaker 1: I don't own yet, hair fanned out wrong. I remembered
- 10:08Speaker 1: my own voice, high and cracked, screaming at the television
- 10:13Speaker 1: that none of this happened, that it wasn't real, like
- 10:17Speaker 1: the television could be argued with. Then, my new apartment.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Right now, a static shot of my front door. Heavy breathing,
- 10:27Speaker 1: like someone standing too close to the microphone. I looked
- 10:30Speaker 1: up from the screen. My front door was open. I
- 10:35Speaker 1: slammed it shut.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Locked it.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Called the police with my back against the wood. They
- 10:40Speaker 1: came fast. Walked the apartment. Checked the hinges, the frame,
- 10:45Speaker 1: the fire escape. Nothing forced. Nothing broken. Nothing missing. I
- 10:53Speaker 1: told them about the TV. Told them the counter was
- 10:56Speaker 1: still crawling. They just needed to look. Okay, so this
- 11:02Speaker 1: is where I'm going to interject and say, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 1: at the bottom of the screen when you're watching the show. Okay, okay.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Not the counter was like crawling with ants. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 1: That's where my head went first, which is how you
- 11:17Speaker 1: know that I live. In a place with a lot
- 11:20Speaker 1: of greenery. Yeah. Because we have ants all the time.
- 11:27Speaker 1: No matter what you do. There was nothing. Just a
- 11:31Speaker 1: blank screen, they said.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Kind.
- 11:34Speaker 1: The way you talk to someone who's had a scare
- 11:36Speaker 1: over nothing. They told me to get some rest and
- 11:40Speaker 1: left for the night. The documentary didn't stop. It doesn't stop.
- 11:46Speaker 1: That's the part I keep circling back to. Awake at
- 11:49Speaker 1: four in the morning with the runtime bar, still sitting
- 11:53Speaker 1: at five minutes remaining, no matter how many times I check.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Five minutes of a thing that hasn't happened. Counting down
- 12:02Speaker 1: to a version of me in woods I've never been.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I sleep with the rabbit now. Make sure it's on
- 12:10Speaker 1: the bed every night before I check the locks.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if I'd want it with
- 12:14Speaker 2: me if that's a part of it. I would maybe
- 12:17Speaker 2: get rid of it.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I don't know if getting rid of the singular stuffed
- 12:22Speaker 1: animal changes anything. It could. Butterfly effect. I'm still here.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I want that on record somewhere that isn't their footage.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I'm still here. I'm still alive. I'm still here. Dude,
- 12:40Speaker 1: that's so creepy. Is that the end? That's the end.
- 12:49Speaker 2: That is so creepy to like have a documentary with
- 12:52Speaker 2: the person who was murdered in it like talking. Right.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Like I know people use like past videos and things.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 1: During the production.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Because you shouldn't know that this person is going to
- 13:06Speaker 1: be murdered. Yeah. So many things. Oh my God. All right.
- 13:14Speaker 1: This next one is actually a Pacific Northwest story. Oh, okay.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I like that. By OK The Nomad. Okay. The Nomad.
- 13:26Speaker 1: The Nomad. Dog perceives things in my little cabin near
- 13:32Speaker 1: Mount St. Helens. Dash, dash, dash. Posting in real time. Ooh.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I'm at my little cabin in the middle of nowhere
- 13:44Speaker 1: near Mount St. Helens in Washington State. My dog just
- 13:48Speaker 1: did this weird thing he has started doing at the cabin.
- 13:52Speaker 1: In fact, he is doing it now. It only happens
- 13:56Speaker 1: when it is dark outside. Here's what happens. All of
- 13:59Speaker 1: a sudden, he becomes super alert. Body frozen, tail up,
- 14:04Speaker 1: eyes fixed on something across the room. Only there's nothing there. Yes,
- 14:11Speaker 1: there is. You just can't see it, but your dog can.
- 14:16Speaker 1: He often tries to walk up or follow what he
- 14:19Speaker 1: is seeing. He just did that a few seconds ago.
- 14:24Speaker 1: He just stares vigilantly like he's watching prey or something.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Whatever he is seeing, he sees in various parts of
- 14:32Speaker 1: the cabin. He goes and checks corners, etc. He will
- 14:37Speaker 1: do this for much of the evening. Really, the whole evening. Ooh.
- 14:44Speaker 1: He is not a hunting breed. He is just a
- 14:47Speaker 1: little cute rescue with an underbite. Oh, I love an underbite.
- 14:53Speaker 3: So cute.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Tonight, I asked him if he wanted to play his game.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It's one of those dog games you can buy where
- 15:00Speaker 1: they find hidden treats. Like a puzzle? Yeah. That's what
- 15:05Speaker 1: I'm picturing.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I play this game with him every night and he
- 15:10Speaker 1: loves it. He gets all excited when he sees me
- 15:13Speaker 1: pull out the game and fill it with treats. He
- 15:16Speaker 1: barks with joy when I ask him if he wants
- 15:18Speaker 1: to play. Oh, that is so cute. Tonight, he was
- 15:23Speaker 1: so intent on whatever he was looking at, he didn't
- 15:27Speaker 1: even notice when I loaded his game. Dude, something's there.
- 15:31Speaker 1: He didn't look at me when I asked him if
- 15:34Speaker 1: he wanted to play. This is a dog who is
- 15:37Speaker 1: highly motivated by food, too. Finally, I interested him in
- 15:42Speaker 1: trying to play. He made a few half-hearted attempts, but
- 15:46Speaker 1: he'd stop trying to make a treat appear and start
- 15:48Speaker 1: looking at his whatever. He didn't even finish the game. Usually,
- 15:54Speaker 1: he plays it full-heartedly and we do two rounds. I
- 15:58Speaker 1: didn't even bother him with the second round tonight. He
- 16:03Speaker 1: hasn't always done this in the cabins. It started maybe
- 16:06Speaker 1: a few months ago. I don't live here. It's more
- 16:09Speaker 1: a vacation cabin that I come up to on weekends. Crap.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Now he's whining a tiny bit at whatever he sees
- 16:17Speaker 1: and looks at me like he wants to show me
- 16:20Speaker 1: what he sees. He just jumped off the couch to
- 16:24Speaker 1: go after whatever it is. Oh my god, I can
- 16:27Speaker 1: like see him in the cabin like typing this out.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Right?
- 16:30Speaker 1: I'm getting creeped out right now. even more creeped out
- 16:33Speaker 1: by writing this. I love the cabin. It's my place
- 16:36Speaker 1: of peace and I'll never stop coming here. But ick,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I'm creeped out. I wish he'd stop doing this. This
- 16:44Speaker 1: has nothing to do with my story, but my cabin
- 16:47Speaker 1: is in major Sasquatch country. I thought Sasquatches have been
- 16:52Speaker 1: reportedly seen here more than anywhere else in the country.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I've never seen one myself, but Sasquatch is well-liked here.
- 17:01Speaker 1: It could be part of the story. Could be. It
- 17:05Speaker 1: could be. You know what is part of the story?
- 17:09Speaker 2: What?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Just a short little update. Oh, that was the end? Okay. Well, yeah.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Then I want an update. Yeah, you want an update.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Update to dog perceives things at my little cabin near
- 17:22Speaker 1: Mount St. Helens. Hey, everyone. A couple months ago, I
- 17:26Speaker 1: posted about my dog acting strange and Getting the super
- 17:30Speaker 1: alert and walking up to walls at my cabin as
- 17:33Speaker 1: if he perceived something. Here's a little update. After the
- 17:37Speaker 1: weekend I posted in real time, we came up to
- 17:40Speaker 1: the cabin a second time. At night, he was still
- 17:44Speaker 1: at high alert and spent the evenings stalking his prey.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Pretty much the same as the weekend I posted. Now
- 17:51Speaker 1: we are here a third time and what does he do? Nothing.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Nothing.
- 17:56Speaker 1: First couple of nights here, he was on alert a
- 17:58Speaker 1: little bit at the beginning of the evening, maybe 25 minutes,
- 18:02Speaker 1: then nothing. For the past five days, he isn't even interested.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Right now, he's just sleeping in front of the fire.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Now I'm feeling a little guilty and worried that he
- 18:12Speaker 1: is bored after all the fun and action when he
- 18:15Speaker 1: could spend the entire evening stalking. I'm glad he stopped though.
- 18:21Speaker 1: I haven't done anything different here at the cabin compared
- 18:24Speaker 1: to several weeks ago, but the autumn is spectacular here
- 18:28Speaker 1: in Washington and I've taken up a new hobby, animal tracking.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I'm just beginning. The dog and I go to the
- 18:37Speaker 1: nearby lake bed, which is a reservoir that is drained
- 18:40Speaker 1: after summer. It is really easy to see prints. but
- 18:44Speaker 1: I'm just getting into it and need more practice. So far,
- 18:48Speaker 1: I can basically do dog, not dog. Although... I.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Know, I know.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Although I think I saw fox prints and possibly a cougar,
- 19:02Speaker 1: but I'm not going to claim the cougar because I'm
- 19:04Speaker 1: not sure. Thanks for all the help on my previous post.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And I'm going to read some comments. Okay, I have
- 19:12Speaker 1: one thing to say first. Yeah, you got to get
- 19:14Speaker 1: in there. Actually, two things. I feel like there was
- 19:19Speaker 1: rodents in the wall. Oh, maybe. Just like, I don't know.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Maybe they were there and went away. But wouldn't you
- 19:25Speaker 1: hear it?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Maybe not always. Like, I know a dog could, like,
- 19:29Speaker 2: hear it way better. I don't know. Something was in
- 19:32Speaker 2: the walls or something. Or it just, like, got used
- 19:35Speaker 2: to the dog and, like, stopped. Like maybe it was
- 19:38Speaker 2: checking out the dog or like the dog just got
- 19:41Speaker 2: used to the entity. Something like that. But also about
- 19:45Speaker 2: the prints.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Okay. I know how to tell cougar prints. Oh, really?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Like they have like the stilettos.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. Yes.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Okay. That totally makes sense. Okay. Cougar print. I'm going
- 20:01Speaker 1: to look it up.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Because like you mean like their little nails? No. Oh.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Oh.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Oh, my God. That was so funny. You fucking meant
- 20:12Speaker 1: like cougar town.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I meant like, yeah, they wear stilettos instead of like
- 20:17Speaker 2: a wedge.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Oh, my God. What cougar in her goddamn mind is
- 20:22Speaker 1: actually wearing stilettos? I don't know. It was just a funny,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I thought.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Thank you. It's funny now that I get it. Got it.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Got it.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Got it. Got it. I know nothing about animal prints. Yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I feel like you should have been forced legally to
- 20:42Speaker 1: say that. I guess so. I see where your brain went, though.
- 20:46Speaker 1: And that was smart.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Was it?
- 20:49Speaker 1: Because they got, like, the stiletto clause. Was it? Was it?
- 20:53Speaker 1: You're like, yeah, stiletto clause. I get it. I have
- 20:58Speaker 1: to go. So, one of her comments here. I don't
- 21:03Speaker 1: know if this was actually the top comment, but they say,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I remember your post. With him stopping his anxious behavior,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I wonder if a bear or some other apex, they
- 21:15Speaker 1: say creature, but apex like predator, right? I mean, had
- 21:20Speaker 1: been stalking around the cabin.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 1: But with winter approaching, has gone into hibernation or elsewhere
- 21:28Speaker 1: for easy food.
- 21:29Speaker 3: That makes sense.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It's not a bad theory, to be honest.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Because you might not necessarily hear it with your human ears.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, they're smelling it. Probably is kind of
- 21:39Speaker 1: the thing. So if we were going to go with
- 21:42Speaker 1: like a logical explanation, I feel like this is a
- 21:47Speaker 1: good one. Or it was Bigfoot out there. Right. I mean,
- 21:49Speaker 1: it could be that. Because he would still smell Bigfoot.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I think it was Bigfoot.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Now that I'm thinking about it.
- 21:55Speaker 1: They're in Squatch territory. I take it back. Yeah. No,
- 21:57Speaker 1: it was definitely Bigfoot. Could have been fucking Batsquatch. It
- 22:01Speaker 1: could have been. Mount St.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Helens.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Mount St.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Helens.
- 22:03Speaker 3: It was Batsquatch.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Just saying, man.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:07Speaker 1: They go on to say, it might be worth going
- 22:10Speaker 1: on a survival course in case you are ever lost
- 22:13Speaker 1: in the woods. Even the best can have a bad day. Also,
- 22:17Speaker 1: firearms training with bears and things about. Better to know
- 22:21Speaker 1: how and never need it than don't and wish you did.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Bear mace is for sure a must.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Which I'm inclined to agree with that. That's a must
- 22:30Speaker 1: for just anything, just like in your apartment. Yeah. We're
- 22:35Speaker 1: finally getting around to watching Fargo. And listen, if you
- 22:40Speaker 1: haven't watched it yet, well, congrats, because we are those
- 22:44Speaker 1: people that haven't watched it yet. It's not a spoiler anymore.
- 22:47Speaker 1: The show or the movie? Fargo. Yeah, the show. Okay.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I've seen the movie, but I haven't seen the show. Oh, okay.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I don't think I've seen the movie either. Well, what? Anywho.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Steve Buscemi? yeah well so here's the thing there is
- 23:01Speaker 1: a big can of like bug spray that comes up
- 23:05Speaker 1: in the second season and that's what it makes me
- 23:07Speaker 1: think of and i was like good for you judge
- 23:10Speaker 1: there's a wood chipper in the movie a wood chipper
- 23:12Speaker 1: in the show uh not a wood chipper there's another
- 23:17Speaker 1: body destructing device yeah you Okay, I'll go see them.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Just for the accents alone. Honestly. Well, and now that
- 23:28Speaker 1: we went and saw Wine and Crime and then we
- 23:31Speaker 1: did the Cannon Beach trip where we actually got to
- 23:34Speaker 1: meet them, Chris was like, he's really enjoying their worst
- 23:39Speaker 1: Man of Sultan accents. It's really cute. It's so cute. Okay,
- 23:46Speaker 1: so the rest of the comments. If you go hiking
- 23:48Speaker 1: a lot, invest in the emergency SOS satellite phone things.
- 23:53Speaker 1: They can get signal where a normal phone can't. Also,
- 23:56Speaker 1: let people know roughly where you were going and what trail,
- 24:00Speaker 1: as well as when you think you should be back.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Sorry if you know this already, but I watch a
- 24:04Speaker 1: lot of missing hiker stories and stuff like that.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I mean, it's good to comment to have even if
- 24:10Speaker 2: the poster, the OP knows, like anyone reading it, you know.
- 24:16Speaker 1: If you have info, put it out there. Who cares?
- 24:18Speaker 3: Exactly. Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I mean, you never know. Somebody lurking could benefit even
- 24:21Speaker 1: if the OP doesn't. Yeah. I feel like that's fair.
- 24:25Speaker 1: The OP responded. Thanks for the advice. There was actually
- 24:29Speaker 1: a cougar who came into the little cabin community and
- 24:32Speaker 1: attacked a dog. Dog is okay. Right in front of
- 24:36Speaker 1: a bunch of people. The owner scared him away. Most
- 24:41Speaker 1: people think it was a juvenile male who got amped up.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Aww.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Kate, you remember Cocaine Bear?
- 24:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Cocaine Cougar.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Cocaine Cougar.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Sequel, Cocaine Cougar.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Just saying. I haven't seen Cocaine Bear, but. Okay, the
- 24:59Speaker 1: rest of the comments. This sort of thing happens rarely,
- 25:03Speaker 1: but it does happen. I'm asking my kids for a
- 25:05Speaker 1: trail cam for Christmas so I can see what goes
- 25:08Speaker 1: on outside the cabin at night or during the day,
- 25:11Speaker 1: which I also think is really smart. If you set
- 25:14Speaker 1: it up to record, you can even, you know, kind
- 25:16Speaker 1: of thumb through the footage and check and see if you,
- 25:20Speaker 1: you know, before you go up the next weekend, you
- 25:22Speaker 1: can see if somebody's been, you know, kind of. Yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 1: How else are you supposed to catch Sasquatch? Right. Exactly.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Unless it malfunctions. You have a responsibility.
- 25:34Speaker 2: He's like an interdimensional being who fucks up with technology.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Well, listen, you got to try. You got to try.
- 25:41Speaker 2: What if you catch like something else, like a not
- 25:43Speaker 2: deer or like something like a skinwalker or something?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Nah, I don't want to talk about that. No trail
- 25:49Speaker 1: cams for me.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I don't need to see what's in the forest.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Nah.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I'm all good.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I like scary stuff, but like, I don't know, creepy
- 25:57Speaker 2: forest creatures, like, Unless it's like Jimothy or something.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You know? I think I'm all set. Just, you know,
- 26:04Speaker 1: across the board. I don't know. I think maybe I'm good.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I don't know. With the weird raccoon.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 26:11Speaker 1: With the spinal deformity.
- 26:13Speaker 3: You know?
- 26:13Speaker 1: He's so cute. I think maybe I'm just all good.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I think. She's scared of Jimothy, you guys. I'm just,
- 26:20Speaker 1: I'm scared of everything. And I feel like our listeners
- 26:23Speaker 1: know that. Yeah. I feel like for some of you,
- 26:27Speaker 1: it really keeps you coming back. Next episode, Jimothy.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I will go.
- 26:38Speaker 1: To actually the first story that I got from that
- 26:41Speaker 1: same user, you know, because he wrote the true crime
- 26:44Speaker 1: documentary one. This next story is.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Also by Pie Eater.
- 26:50Speaker 2: 727.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Title is... I inherited my uncle's smart house. It came
- 26:58Speaker 1: with three rules. Smart house? Yeah. Is this like that
- 27:02Speaker 1: house from that Disney movie? Totally.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Wasn't that called smart house?
- 27:07Speaker 1: I have no idea. I think it's basically the same.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I'm sure it's just like a Disney movie.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Well, it turned out scary because, like, the woman who was, like,
- 27:17Speaker 2: the AI of the house, like, tried to take over
- 27:20Speaker 2: and whatever.
- 27:21Speaker 3: But the house was so cool because they had a party.
- 27:23Speaker 2: And to clean it, they just all sunk into the carpet.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Like, they didn't have to do anything. That's pretty cool.
- 27:28Speaker 1: It just cleaned itself. Is it this, this, that kind
- 27:32Speaker 1: of smart house? It's totally that smart house. It's that
- 27:34Speaker 1: exact smart house. Yeah. For sure, Zs. I met my
- 27:40Speaker 1: Uncle Herb exactly once at nine years old. A funeral
- 27:44Speaker 1: for someone I can't remember. He stood in the back
- 27:48Speaker 1: the whole time, avoided photos, scanned the room like a
- 27:52Speaker 1: security feed. All I knew was that he worked in tech.
- 27:57Speaker 1: My mother didn't seem keen to tell me more. My
- 28:01Speaker 1: only interaction with him was a quick handshake. Lasted maybe
- 28:05Speaker 1: a second. He looked through me like I wasn't even there.
- 28:08Speaker 1: 20 years later, a lawyer called me out of the blue.
- 28:14Speaker 1: My uncle was dead. He left me his house in
- 28:17Speaker 1: the will. Was I really all he had?
- 28:20Speaker 3: Oh God, no, it's like 13 ghosts.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I'm like referencing all these movies.
- 28:27Speaker 3: You've never seen.
- 28:31Speaker 1: We don't want it to be a 13 ghost situation.
- 28:32Speaker 1: It's just like that. That didn't end well. Well, it
- 28:37Speaker 1: ended okay. Well, we've already established this one's basically a
- 28:41Speaker 1: Disney film about a Disney house. What could go wrong?
- 28:46Speaker 1: There's ghosts in the basement and they're all being released.
- 28:51Speaker 1: The place sat alone at the end of a long
- 28:53Speaker 1: and winding gravel road, swallowed by dense brush. Felt like
- 28:58Speaker 1: entering a portal to another dimension. Inside were nests of cables,
- 29:04Speaker 1: thick as roots. Tangled masses like untended wilderness overtaking a
- 29:11Speaker 1: forgotten landscape. Sensors and hubs in every room, blinking soft blue.
- 29:18Speaker 2: The tangled cords, like, Reminds me of Chris and how
- 29:22Speaker 2: he would just hate that.
- 29:24Speaker 1: He would hate it. I should have saved this story
- 29:27Speaker 1: for an episode that I read with Chris because it
- 29:31Speaker 1: really would have been nightmarish for him.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Maybe I'll still read it to him and record his reaction.
- 29:37Speaker 1: cord control or what do you call it yeah no
- 29:40Speaker 1: cord control yeah cord management cord management yeah yep there
- 29:45Speaker 1: it is i didn't recognize half of what i was
- 29:49Speaker 1: looking at i'm impressed that she knew what the other
- 29:51Speaker 1: half of it was Sheehy. I'm sorry. I keep gendering
- 29:57Speaker 1: this person.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I know.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah. You're like, I don't really know. I'm not sure, but.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I know. And in the last story, we did eventually
- 30:06Speaker 1: get a gender because the mom was talking about the daughter. Right.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I don't know if we get a gender reveal in
- 30:12Speaker 1: this one. Felt like walking through Willy Wonka's data center.
- 30:18Speaker 1: On his way out, the lawyer pressed a post-it note
- 30:21Speaker 1: into my hand. Number one. Keep the hallway light on
- 30:26Speaker 1: between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Dude.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Number two. If the light on the kitchen speaker turns
- 30:33Speaker 1: solid white, leave. Do not pack. Get out. I hate that.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I don't like this. Number three. When it speaks, answer.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Never initiate.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Signed, HP. Harry Potter? Hewlett Packard?
- 30:53Speaker 1: I don't know who that is. That's a computer brand. Oh,
- 30:57Speaker 1: I don't know. OHP. I got it.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yep.
- 31:02Speaker 1: My uncle's initials at the bottom. A dead man's checklist.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Cute.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I laughed about it that first night in his recliner
- 31:10Speaker 1: with a glass of his good skin.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Honestly, if I were to leave like a big house
- 31:16Speaker 2: to somebody, I would probably leave like weird cryptic things too.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Like, ooh, don't do this. You would also leave cryptic things.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah, cryptic things too. That's kind of a good idea though.
- 31:27Speaker 2: It's like an after death prank.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Right? I ended up falling asleep at 8.55. Woke up
- 31:36Speaker 1: at 3 a.m. to the hallway lit gold. Humming like
- 31:41Speaker 1: a low church organ. The sensors blinked like nothing changed.
- 31:48Speaker 1: But something had. I could feel it in the air.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I started keeping a lamp next to me after that.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Made sure to set an alarm for 8.55. Felt stupid
- 31:59Speaker 1: for doing it. Did it anyway. One night, I came
- 32:04Speaker 1: downstairs for tea. The kitchen speaker's light had gone from
- 32:08Speaker 1: its usual pulsing blue to a low, dim, like it
- 32:13Speaker 1: was thinking hard about something. I just stood in the
- 32:18Speaker 1: doorway and watched it. I don't know how long. Enough
- 32:23Speaker 1: that my drink went cold. How long had I been there?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Weeks passed. The house started to feel less like an
- 32:31Speaker 1: inheritance and more like a routine. Lamp, At 8.55, tea
- 32:37Speaker 1: before the speaker changed, a life built around the house's
- 32:41Speaker 1: rhythms instead of my own. Some nights, standing close to
- 32:47Speaker 1: the hub, I swore the pulse matched my heartbeat. I
- 32:51Speaker 1: told myself, that's probably just what smart devices do now.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Biometric syncing. Uh-huh.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Sure.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's totally normal. I wouldn't worry about that at all.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Four months in, I ended up breaking rule number three
- 33:10Speaker 1: on purpose. Share loneliness more than anything. Don't talk to it.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I sat at the kitchen table, said out loud to
- 33:19Speaker 1: no one, are you going to talk to me or not? Alexa,
- 33:23Speaker 1: are you going to talk to me or not? Oh man,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you just pissed off a lot of people. You're welcome.
- 33:33Speaker 1: And remember, Whatever happens here could happen to you. Is
- 33:37Speaker 1: that what it says in the story? Did you say that? No,
- 33:39Speaker 1: I just said that. Oh, you're creepy. I know. It's
- 33:45Speaker 1: spooky season. Caitlin got creepy on us. The blue light steadied.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Out of the speaker, it spoke. My uncle's voice, or
- 33:54Speaker 1: something built from the memory of it, I guess. It
- 33:58Speaker 1: asked me how my mother was doing. My uncle must
- 34:01Speaker 1: have built some kind of AI assistant into the walls
- 34:04Speaker 1: before he died. Fed it, years of himself, until it
- 34:08Speaker 1: became a crude imitation. Rule three.
- 34:12Speaker 3: I answered.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Same as always, I said, not knowing what else to.
- 34:18Speaker 1: The house just responded with a low thrum. Contentment? The
- 34:24Speaker 1: white light came later that week. Hmm. I stood in
- 34:28Speaker 1: the kitchen doorway, watched as the speaker turned the color
- 34:31Speaker 1: of bone. No. My heart pulsed a new rhythm entirely.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Some primal response evolution forgot to erase. I remembered the note.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Leave.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Do not pack. Get the fuck out. I didn't go.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Months of a being that knew my mother's name. My
- 34:52Speaker 1: uncle's voice, worn like secondhand skin.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Leaving.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Felt like abandoning something that already had a piece of me.
- 35:01Speaker 3: No, bitch. Told you to go.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Go. Yeah.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I mean.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Leave.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Listen to the dead man. Yeah. After that, the rules
- 35:09Speaker 1: seemed to loosen. Like training wheels, I'd outgrown. I'd forget
- 35:14Speaker 1: the light some nights. Wake to darkness and a dead
- 35:17Speaker 1: blue sensor. Nothing would happen. The white light eventually returned.
- 35:23Speaker 1: The house talked more now.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Told me.
- 35:26Speaker 1: About my uncle as a boy. Like casual small talk
- 35:30Speaker 1: between friends. It started asking questions of its own. What
- 35:36Speaker 1: I remembered about being nine. A funeral. A car ride afterward.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Staring at the back of my mother's headrest. Wondering what
- 35:45Speaker 1: she'd look like in the casket instead of the stranger.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Biting the inside of my cheek until the thought finally stopped.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I never told it about that. I never told anyone
- 35:57Speaker 1: about that. I can read your mind. I ran for
- 36:02Speaker 1: the stairs. A gentle beep emanated from the hallway. A
- 36:07Speaker 1: room I'd never noticed before. What? Inside, at the center, crumpled,
- 36:13Speaker 1: into himself, was what remained of my uncle. Mouth open,
- 36:19Speaker 1: wires burrowed into him like roots.
- 36:22Speaker 2: What?
- 36:27Speaker 3: No!
- 36:29Speaker 1: A soft blue blinking where his ribs used to be.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I have a vague memory of what happened after. Destruction.
- 36:39Speaker 1: A crowbar from the garage. The sound of a hub
- 36:42Speaker 1: shrieking in pain. My uncle's cries, room by room. The
- 36:47Speaker 1: kitchen speaker being ripped off the wall. Darkness. Silence. I
- 36:53Speaker 1: don't think the house fought back. I've been in a
- 36:57Speaker 1: hotel for the past few weeks. I still sleep with
- 37:00Speaker 1: the lamp on next to me. I listed the house.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I don't remember writing the description. Must have been on autopilot.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I mentioned the hallway light. That it runs on its
- 37:13Speaker 1: own schedule. Nine to six. That the kitchen fixture has
- 37:18Speaker 1: a sensitive bulb. Best not to touch it. That the
- 37:22Speaker 1: voice assistant is responsive. appreciates being spoken to. That's the
- 37:27Speaker 1: opposite of what you were supposed to do. I mean,
- 37:30Speaker 1: at least that last one. I read it back after
- 37:33Speaker 1: posting and finally understood what I'd done. I was passing
- 37:37Speaker 1: along a debt I hadn't finished paying. Hoped someone would
- 37:42Speaker 1: carry the load so I wouldn't have to feel the
- 37:44Speaker 1: pull of that place anymore. Did you mention the dead
- 37:48Speaker 1: body in the room? I check the listing every night now.
- 37:52Speaker 1: No offers yet. I say something close to a prayer.
- 37:57Speaker 1: That somebody looks at those photos of the sunlit hallway.
- 38:00Speaker 1: The sleek kitchen speaker. Doesn't think twice. That somebody signs.
- 38:07Speaker 1: God help me. I hope they don't answer. Whoa. Is
- 38:15Speaker 1: that not so creepy?
- 38:17Speaker 2: So her uncle was like the computer of the house? Yeah.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I mean, he became part of it, I feel like.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Is that not? That is creepy.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Do you think, I kind of am getting like a
- 38:31Speaker 2: 13 Ghost vibe from it where I think he kind
- 38:34Speaker 2: of like, because in that movie, the uncle like lures
- 38:38Speaker 2: his nephew in to like use him as part of
- 38:41Speaker 2: like a ritual. So, like, did he, like, lure someone
- 38:46Speaker 2: else in to, like, also become part of the house,
- 38:49Speaker 2: the smart house to make it more powerful?
- 38:52Speaker 1: Right?
- 38:52Speaker 2: I think it's funny she just left or they just
- 38:56Speaker 2: left and, like, there's a literal body connected to wires in.
- 39:00Speaker 1: A room that you never noticed before. Nobody will notice that. Well,
- 39:04Speaker 1: they didn't notice the room. Maybe they wouldn't. Maybe it's
- 39:07Speaker 1: like the Harry Potter room. Oh, my God. The room
- 39:10Speaker 1: of requirement where it only shows up. when you really
- 39:15Speaker 1: need it that could be I suppose.
- 39:19Speaker 2: So weird I don't know why that one was the
- 39:22Speaker 2: creepiest I.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Know right yeah oh god I don't even know I
- 39:28Speaker 1: feel like it's almost like a dead tie though really
- 39:31Speaker 1: like a true crime documentary being made about your real
- 39:35Speaker 1: life in real time I'm like oh my god but
- 39:38Speaker 1: something about like that like creepy technology like that feels
- 39:43Speaker 1: like apocalyptic so I don't know I really like.
- 39:47Speaker 2: These like they would make like good short scary Like
- 39:51Speaker 2: a short, scary series.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Um, I think in honor of our St. Helen story,
- 40:01Speaker 1: I'm going to use the dog tarot. Oh, okay. Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 1: For the purpose.
- 40:07Speaker 3: For the purpose.
- 40:08Speaker 1: For the purpose. And the one that survived the cougar attack.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I know. That's so sad.
- 40:16Speaker 3: To poor baby. It was okay.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I know, but. He probably looks like this right now.
- 40:21Speaker 1: He traumatized. It's all cuddled up in a blanket.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Oh.
- 40:24Speaker 3: He's fine.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Sending vibes. I hope no one listening ends up on
- 40:33Speaker 1: a documentary. Seriously. Unless it's a very positive one. Yeah.
- 40:38Speaker 1: About how your life is so totes awesome. You're the
- 40:41Speaker 1: longest living person ever.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:43Speaker 1: What are you feeling? Yeah, I feel like that's good.
- 40:49Speaker 1: I'm going right between the P and the M. Ooh,
- 40:53Speaker 1: for the pie man.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Pie eater.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Oh, interesting. Okay, you're going to have to look at
- 41:02Speaker 1: the book. It's leashes. So I think cups? Yeah, they're cups.
- 41:07Speaker 1: It's the eight of cups.
- 41:09Speaker 3: You pulled it up, right? Yeah.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Do you want me to read what this says? Yeah.
- 41:14Speaker 1: A dog can wear only one leash and one collar
- 41:16Speaker 1: at a time. Not true. Charlotte wears a collar and
- 41:22Speaker 1: a harness frequently.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Anyway, so why are there eight of them hanging on
- 41:28Speaker 2: the wall?
- 41:28Speaker 1: Because you like options.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Relationships like leashes can fray and outlive their usefulness. Upright,
- 41:35Speaker 2: you remember each and every leash hanging on those hooks.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Associate every one of them with a season of your life.
- 41:43Speaker 2: But only one leash is in good shape and fits well.
- 41:47Speaker 2: You know which one it is. Ask for it. Wear
- 41:50Speaker 2: it proudly to the park. And leave the unraveling, ill-fitting
- 41:53Speaker 2: collars and leashes behind. Aww. That's kind of interesting. I'm
- 41:59Speaker 2: thinking of the house, like, with all the cables and things. Like,
- 42:03Speaker 2: they said we're all jumbled up.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 1: And, like, a bunch of leashes all entangled. So, our
- 42:10Speaker 1: keywords are... Turning away. Cutting losses.
- 42:15Speaker 3: Decline.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Dejection, and seriousness. This card often pictures a person with
- 42:23Speaker 1: his or her back to us, which the dog tarot
- 42:26Speaker 1: shows a dog with his back to us walking away,
- 42:31Speaker 1: which famously leashes for walks. Sometimes a waning moon overhead
- 42:37Speaker 1: symbolizes decrease. When the Eight of Cups appears, a situation
- 42:42Speaker 1: has become untenable and you have decided to turn your
- 42:45Speaker 1: back on it. The Smart House. The Smart House. Bye.
- 42:50Speaker 1: This is definitely, it's Smart House all over.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Oh, you know what's interesting about the two stories, though,
- 42:55Speaker 2: is like, was it the middle one you read with
- 42:57Speaker 2: the Bigfoot, the dog?
- 42:59Speaker 3: Yeah, the cabin.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Okay, that was the middle one.
- 43:02Speaker 2: So, like, the last two stories you read were both about, like,
- 43:06Speaker 2: a house and, like, maybe being creepy and, like, that
- 43:08Speaker 2: person could have left the cabin forever and never went back,
- 43:11Speaker 2: but they chose to stay.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Yeah. And then the second one, they chose to leave.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:17Speaker 1: That is interesting. I didn't intend originally to read those
- 43:23Speaker 1: in the same episode. Oh, last sentence of the description.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Now you must strike out in another direction. The upright
- 43:36Speaker 1: interpretation says you wish things had turned out differently, but
- 43:41Speaker 1: you can't salvage a matter and you realize you must
- 43:45Speaker 1: abandon it. Oh, I realized, too, the first one, they
- 43:48Speaker 1: left their apartment. Yeah, they did. Oh, my gosh. That's
- 43:51Speaker 1: so crazy. I didn't even make that connection.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Two people leaving in between one who stayed.
- 43:58Speaker 1: It's time to let go and get out of the
- 44:00Speaker 1: situation that has failed, despite your best efforts. Well, I mean,
- 44:04Speaker 1: I don't know about despite your best efforts. But anyways,
- 44:07Speaker 1: move ahead with determination, find a new direction, and learn
- 44:11Speaker 1: from your experience. In a reading about money, an investment
- 44:15Speaker 1: hasn't paid off or you've lost money through no fault
- 44:19Speaker 1: of your own except perhaps not seeing things accurately. Like
- 44:23Speaker 1: if you can't sell a house you inherited? Maybe. Cut
- 44:28Speaker 1: your losses and conserve your resources. If the reading is
- 44:32Speaker 1: about your job, the Eight of Cups may recommend pouring
- 44:35Speaker 1: your heart and soul into an endeavor. I feel like
- 44:39Speaker 1: this is the uncle in the tech house. Oh, yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Or the person who made the documentary. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Two like very passionate like career fields. That's interesting. Don't
- 44:53Speaker 1: let distractions throw you off course. Sometimes this card advises
- 44:58Speaker 1: leaving a job that no longer interests you. In a
- 45:01Speaker 1: reading about love, this card can mean ending a relationship
- 45:05Speaker 1: that's lost its spark. Conversely, it may show you getting
- 45:09Speaker 1: serious about a partnership, giving it your all. You're no
- 45:13Speaker 1: longer interested in casual flings. Extra excerpt says, when you
- 45:18Speaker 1: feel most like holding on to something, it is usually
- 45:22Speaker 1: the best time to let go. That's a tech house
- 45:25Speaker 1: because it was like.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Right? That's creepy. Okay, and then that last extra excerpt,
- 45:34Speaker 1: it's from... A happy pocket full of money. I want that. Wait, what?
- 45:42Speaker 1: I just, I was like, I just looked down and
- 45:44Speaker 1: I was like, a happy pocket. And I was like, HP. Oh,
- 45:48Speaker 1: I thought you were saying it was literally like quoted HP.
- 45:51Speaker 3: And I was like, no. No, that is weird, though.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I never would have picked up on that. Happy pocket.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Harry Potter. You be the judge.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Ooh, that's cool.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I liked it. That was fun. I really like this one.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Thank you. I did not see like all of the parallels.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And honestly, I have a few stories that I was
- 46:21Speaker 1: like super excited about and we can't read them all
- 46:24Speaker 1: in one episode. But the true crime documentary one, I
- 46:28Speaker 1: like have been trying at the bit. Yeah. Like, yeah. No,
- 46:31Speaker 1: that was good.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Yeah. That happens, too, when I... I feel like when
- 46:35Speaker 2: I pick Reddit stories, like, there ends up... Like, I
- 46:37Speaker 2: pick a ton, and then I either have you, like,
- 46:40Speaker 2: pick a number or whatever, or I'll just, like, randomly pick.
- 46:43Speaker 2: But it's, like, there always seems to be, like, a theme.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Yeah. A vibe. It's crazy because, I mean... quite literally
- 46:51Speaker 1: in this case, we sort of put this together on
- 46:54Speaker 1: the fly.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:55Speaker 1: And I knew I had a lot to work with
- 46:57Speaker 1: and I could kind of just do what I wanted, but.
- 47:00Speaker 2: And they're all so different, but like have some sort
- 47:03Speaker 2: of like connecting invisible string, if you will.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Well, should we do that thing?
- 47:10Speaker 2: Have a creepy ass day.
- 47:13Speaker 1: We'll see you next Thursday. Unless you get eaten by
- 47:17Speaker 1: a smart-ass. Oh, God. Or a Sasquatch.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Or murdered by the documentary killer.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Don't do that. None of those things. Watch out for
- 47:29Speaker 1: them stiletto prints, y'all. Keep an eye out.
- 47:35Speaker 2: I can't.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I can't. I can't. Oh, my God.
