- 0:00Speaker 1: 835-1310-WIBA. Madison in the morning and Ask the Experts brought
- 0:05Speaker 1: to you by Checkout Veterinary Clinic online. CheckoutVet.com. That's CheckoutVet.com.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Great website and resource to learn all about Checkout Veterinary's clinics.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Of course, Checkout Vet. Also, the sister clinic, Check-In Vet,
- 0:20Speaker 1: the Marshall Clinic. Of course, I learned about Dr. Greer
- 0:24Speaker 1: and the whole crew. At Checkout Veterinary, CheckoutVet.com. Great thing, though,
- 0:28Speaker 1: also about the website is you can schedule an appointment
- 0:32Speaker 1: right from the website. Don't forget that first visit, that
- 0:34Speaker 1: wellness exam. It is free. You can do that right online. CheckoutVet.com.
- 0:38Speaker 1: That's CheckoutVet.com. Or you can give them a call at
- 0:41Speaker 1: the clinic, 608-318-6700. That's 608-318-6700.
- 0:45Speaker 2: 318-6700.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And joining us this morning from Checkout Veterinary is Dr.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Marty Greer. Dr. Greer is recognized as Veterinarian of the
- 0:52Speaker 1: Year by the Westminster Kennel Club.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Dr.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Greer, how are you doing this morning?
- 0:57Speaker 2: I'm doing great. This is just the best time of year,
- 0:59Speaker 2: isn't it?
- 1:00Speaker 1: It sure is. I love the comfortable temperatures. I think
- 1:04Speaker 1: it's the best way. Still got the sunshine. You still
- 1:06Speaker 1: can wear shorts, but you can also wear jeans. You
- 1:09Speaker 1: can wear a hoodie. You can wear a T-shirt. Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 1: I think you're right on about that for sure, Doctor.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And we've got a really important conversation. We're going to
- 1:18Speaker 1: talk about Checkout Veterinary. about the clinic, about what goes
- 1:22Speaker 1: on there, what makes it so amazingly special. One thing, too,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I did want to mention, you and I have been
- 1:27Speaker 1: talking the last couple of years, and you've mentioned about
- 1:30Speaker 1: a podcast that you do, and I really want to
- 1:32Speaker 1: make sure that folks are aware of it, that they're
- 1:35Speaker 1: subscribing to it. Let's talk a little bit about the
- 1:38Speaker 1: podcast that you do and about the content and where
- 1:40Speaker 1: people can find that doctor.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So it's the Marty and Laura Show. I didn't name it.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Laura Reeves named it. And it's It's just called The
- 1:49Speaker 2: Marty and Laura Show. It's a podcast we do weekly.
- 1:51Speaker 2: You can get signed up for it through Facebook or
- 1:54Speaker 2: through the website. And what's great about it is that
- 1:57Speaker 2: it goes through all the stuff like you and I
- 1:59Speaker 2: talk about, the routine kind of care that we need,
- 2:01Speaker 2: or what causes diarrhea, what are the 20 things that
- 2:04Speaker 2: cause diarrhea in a dog, what are the 10 things
- 2:06Speaker 2: that make them cough, what makes a cat have a hairball,
- 2:09Speaker 2: all this stuff, urinary issues, all the other normal day-to-day
- 2:13Speaker 2: kind of things that we see at a veterinary clinic
- 2:15Speaker 2: and that you see as pet owners with health problems.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Or even better, how do you save money by getting
- 2:21Speaker 2: your preventive care done? All the things that you need
- 2:24Speaker 2: to know as a pet owner. So once a week
- 2:25Speaker 2: it comes out, it's usually about 30 minutes long. It's free.
- 2:29Speaker 2: So I encourage people to go in, sign up for it.
- 2:31Speaker 2: If you have friends that are asking you questions because
- 2:34Speaker 2: you're pretty dog savvy, you're pretty cat smart, you can
- 2:37Speaker 2: send them to that and say, hey, you know, there's
- 2:38Speaker 2: a podcast for that. You're not subjected to your family, friends,
- 2:42Speaker 2: or relatives saying, okay, like, Tell me about this because
- 2:47Speaker 2: you've told them this 12 times on how to leash
- 2:49Speaker 2: train your dog or whatever it happens to be. So
- 2:52Speaker 2: there's some really great information out there. Laura has been
- 2:54Speaker 2: in dogs for her entire life. She grew up in
- 2:57Speaker 2: a family with dogs that she bred and showed and
- 3:02Speaker 2: was competing with in the field trial arena. I didn't
- 3:06Speaker 2: grow up with dogs, but I've been doing veterinary medicine
- 3:09Speaker 2: for 45 years. So I have a pretty good handle
- 3:11Speaker 2: on a lot of the things that are routinely seen
- 3:13Speaker 2: at veterinary clinics.
- 3:14Speaker 1: That's and again, that that podcast, Marty and Laura show.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And of course, you can find that online. Even if
- 3:20Speaker 1: you Google Marty and Laura show, it pops up right away.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It's a very obviously a very, very popular podcast as well.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And as Dr. Greer mentioned, there is a ton of really,
- 3:29Speaker 1: really good content, a great show. So you can subscribe
- 3:32Speaker 1: right online as well. And doctor, let's talk about the clinic.
- 3:37Speaker 1: One of the things I've loved. over the past couple
- 3:39Speaker 1: of years talking with you about is the clinic. I
- 3:43Speaker 1: know you have a love for animals and all the vets,
- 3:46Speaker 1: all the techs, the entire team at Checkout Veterinary absolutely
- 3:50Speaker 1: loves animals. And one of the things that you guys
- 3:52Speaker 1: have done by design is create a clinic that really
- 3:57Speaker 1: makes it comfortable and pet-centric, makes it a focus and
- 4:01Speaker 1: puts a focus on pets. Let's talk about the clinic
- 4:05Speaker 1: and really... the miracles that go on there each and
- 4:08Speaker 1: every day and really by design, isn't it?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Sure. So check-in and Marshall are kind of where the
- 4:14Speaker 2: miracles happen as far as things recovering from surgeries or
- 4:19Speaker 2: recovering from illnesses. Check-out is also a miracle in a
- 4:22Speaker 2: different way. And that's how comfortable your dog will be
- 4:25Speaker 2: or your cat will be coming to the veterinary clinic
- 4:28Speaker 2: instead of in the traditional delivery system, where it's really people-centric.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It's centric to the veterinarian. You'll notice that the exam
- 4:35Speaker 2: rooms all open into one central area so the veterinarian
- 4:38Speaker 2: doesn't have to go very far. The lab and the
- 4:39Speaker 2: pharmacy are close. We don't need all those things. The
- 4:43Speaker 2: lab stuff all goes out. So we don't need to
- 4:45Speaker 2: have a laboratory. We don't need to have a surgery.
- 4:47Speaker 2: We don't need to have x-ray at checkout because it's
- 4:50Speaker 2: all outpatient care. So it's very focused on the wellness
- 4:53Speaker 2: care that you need routinely for your pets. So it's vaccinations,
- 4:58Speaker 2: heartworm testing, routine blood work, heartworm preventives, flea and tick preventives,
- 5:03Speaker 2: all that routine care that It really bogs you down
- 5:06Speaker 2: in a situation where if you go to a clinic
- 5:08Speaker 2: where it's focused on sick pets and healthy pets, then
- 5:11Speaker 2: you have to wait if somebody ahead of you has
- 5:12Speaker 2: a sick dog and it takes an extra hour for
- 5:14Speaker 2: that appointment. Your appointment is pushed back and you're waiting
- 5:17Speaker 2: and it's late and it's just really difficult. Here we
- 5:20Speaker 2: are streamlined. It is all about the healthy pet information. Now,
- 5:24Speaker 2: if you have something that comes up over the weekend
- 5:25Speaker 2: with a limping dog or an ear infection, we can,
- 5:27Speaker 2: you know, simple things like that. that you can't really
- 5:30Speaker 2: get into an emergency clinic for because the emergency clinics
- 5:33Speaker 2: are really set up for crises. They're set up for
- 5:36Speaker 2: the dog that's attacked at the dog park or the
- 5:38Speaker 2: dog that gets rolled by a car or things that
- 5:41Speaker 2: are seriously ill dogs. We're set up to be really
- 5:44Speaker 2: lean and really streamlined and really focused on the things
- 5:49Speaker 2: that you need that are just routine. You can't wait
- 5:51Speaker 2: until Monday for that ear infection because it's Friday night
- 5:53Speaker 2: and your dog is starting to really become uncomfortable. Or
- 5:56Speaker 2: you just need, you're on your way to the boarding
- 5:58Speaker 2: facility and you need your vaccines because you forgot or
- 6:01Speaker 2: you had a last minute change of plans and so
- 6:03Speaker 2: you had to board the dog instead of taking them
- 6:04Speaker 2: with you. Or you just need routine care. And this
- 6:07Speaker 2: is a great time of year to come in because
- 6:10Speaker 2: when back to school happens, things tend to slow down
- 6:13Speaker 2: a little bit, most veterinary clinics. So it's a little
- 6:16Speaker 2: bit easier to get in even faster. So if you
- 6:18Speaker 2: need something today, we can probably get you in today.
- 6:22Speaker 2: If you need something tomorrow or over the weekend, we
- 6:23Speaker 2: can get you in because we are there seven days
- 6:26Speaker 2: a week. It's very cool.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It's a great way and great day to schedule that appointment. Again,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you can do it right online, checkoutvet.com. That's checkoutvet.com. Or
- 6:34Speaker 1: give them a call at the clinic, 608-318-6700. That's 608-318-6700.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Let's talk about how it works at Checkout Vet Doctor.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And this is the thing that just blows my mind.
- 6:47Speaker 1: When you see it, you're like, gosh, everybody should be
- 6:50Speaker 1: You should be doing it the same way. Let's talk
- 6:54Speaker 1: about how things work at Checkout Vet and what makes
- 6:56Speaker 1: it so convenient for pet care.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Sure. So when you arrive, we're going to direct you
- 7:02Speaker 2: to one of the garage bays. They all have a
- 7:04Speaker 2: farm animal on the door and also the words in
- 7:07Speaker 2: case you can't tell what a rooster looks like compared
- 7:09Speaker 2: to a cow, you know, just in case you're animal challenged.
- 7:12Speaker 2: You pull up to the garage door. The door goes up.
- 7:14Speaker 2: You drive your car into the garage bay, which is
- 7:16Speaker 2: also the exam room. The garage bay is adjacent to
- 7:20Speaker 2: an exam room with a table if your pet is
- 7:22Speaker 2: small and needs to be on the table like a
- 7:23Speaker 2: small dog or a cat. If your dog is larger,
- 7:25Speaker 2: you have several dogs with you. If you have dogs
- 7:27Speaker 2: and kids with you, it's all great. You have this
- 7:29Speaker 2: entire garage bay that the kids can get out and
- 7:31Speaker 2: race around and the dog can get out and zip around.
- 7:34Speaker 2: So you're not confined to behaving yourself in the lobby.
- 7:37Speaker 2: You're not confined to that giant Great Dane that comes
- 7:41Speaker 2: over and glares at your cat, your poor little cat.
- 7:43Speaker 2: It's on a harness or in a carrier and it's,
- 7:46Speaker 2: you know, in sheer panic because this gigantic dog is
- 7:48Speaker 2: looking at them or dogs are barking or whatever you
- 7:51Speaker 2: pull directly into that room. You don't share it with
- 7:54Speaker 2: anyone else except the pets that you brought with you.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And heck, if you want to bring all six of
- 7:58Speaker 2: your dogs, feel free. Load them all up. Come on in.
- 8:02Speaker 2: We'll allow enough time for that many patients and we'll
- 8:04Speaker 2: take care of everything that you need all in one visit.
- 8:06Speaker 2: So there's a scale. We pop them on the scale.
- 8:09Speaker 2: We listen to their hearts. We look in their ears.
- 8:11Speaker 2: We check their eyes. We feel their tummies. We do
- 8:13Speaker 2: a complete physical exam, so it's not cutting any corners.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's not shortcutting anything. It just cuts all the fluff
- 8:20Speaker 2: out that you need if you're running a regular veterinary
- 8:22Speaker 2: clinic because we don't need x-ray. We don't need surgery.
- 8:24Speaker 2: We don't need anesthesia. So we just very quickly get
- 8:28Speaker 2: you in very efficiently. You come in. It's easy. Your
- 8:32Speaker 2: pet is isolated from other pets, and you can very
- 8:34Speaker 2: simply get into the exam room, have all the care.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And if you feel like staying in the car or
- 8:39Speaker 2: you want to leave your kids in the car because
- 8:40Speaker 2: they're watching a movie or they're doing their homework or
- 8:43Speaker 2: they're eating dinner or whatever it happens to be, it's
- 8:46Speaker 2: really safe because your kids are in that garage bay
- 8:49Speaker 2: exam room that you're adjacent to. So you're not leaving
- 8:51Speaker 2: them in the parking lot and nobody's going to drive
- 8:54Speaker 2: off with your kids or grandma's not going to grab
- 8:56Speaker 2: the car keys and forget that she's not supposed to
- 8:58Speaker 2: drive and tool on out. So right next to McDonald's,
- 9:01Speaker 2: right next to Arby's and Aldi and all this stuff.
- 9:04Speaker 2: We're just around the corner from Costco. So it's super convenient,
- 9:07Speaker 2: very easy on and off the freeway. And So easy,
- 9:10Speaker 2: so convenient for you. You can do all your errands
- 9:12Speaker 2: in one trip.
- 9:13Speaker 1: You know, as yesterday was, I do believe one of the,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I feel like there's a few of these, Doctor. National
- 9:18Speaker 1: Dog Day was yesterday, which, you know, every day, I
- 9:20Speaker 1: think for most of us, we and our dogs would agree.
- 9:24Speaker 1: National Dog Day. I know with certain dogs, you know,
- 9:28Speaker 1: and cats definitely, I almost feel like universally, but... I
- 9:31Speaker 1: know certain dogs as well. I mentioned I've got a Chihuahua.
- 9:35Speaker 1: He likes people, doesn't care for other animals, cats he
- 9:38Speaker 1: can tolerate, but other dogs kind of get him going.
- 9:41Speaker 1: One of the great things with this as well is,
- 9:43Speaker 1: as you mentioned, not only you don't have to sit
- 9:47Speaker 1: in a waiting room with other pets, during the exam,
- 9:50Speaker 1: every bay has its own exam. The exams are completely self-contained,
- 9:54Speaker 1: which is just like, you're like, this is amazing.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty great. The dogs are less anxious. The
- 10:01Speaker 2: cats are really comfortable and relaxed because there isn't any
- 10:03Speaker 2: of those challenges. And the staff, oh my gosh, my
- 10:07Speaker 2: staff loves it because it makes it so much easier
- 10:10Speaker 2: to deliver the care that they've always wanted to give.
- 10:12Speaker 2: So as an owner- A pet owner, as an employee
- 10:16Speaker 2: of the practice, you can see how much less stress
- 10:18Speaker 2: there is for those pets. Now, you know, we still
- 10:21Speaker 2: have to draw blood. We still have to vaccinate if
- 10:23Speaker 2: that's what they need. But it's just so much easier
- 10:26Speaker 2: on them because you don't have all the extraneous noise
- 10:29Speaker 2: and smells and activities and visuals and all the things
- 10:34Speaker 2: that happen at a regular veterinary clinic. And When the
- 10:36Speaker 2: weather's bad, you know, you drive in, you don't have
- 10:38Speaker 2: to get out of the car and slog through the
- 10:39Speaker 2: snow or worry that the dog is going to pull
- 10:41Speaker 2: you down across the snow. If it's raining, it doesn't matter.
- 10:44Speaker 2: If it's hot, if it's cold, it doesn't make a difference.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We've got everything climate controlled and it's ready to go.
- 10:48Speaker 2: It's all set.
- 10:49Speaker 1: It's a fantastic setup and a great model and a
- 10:51Speaker 1: great day as well. They are accepting new patients at
- 10:54Speaker 1: Checkout Vet, a prime opportunity for you and your pet.
- 10:57Speaker 1: You can, of course. Make that appointment right online, CheckoutVet.com.
- 11:01Speaker 1: That's CheckoutVet.com. Here, Dr. Greer mentioned as well about the
- 11:05Speaker 1: convenient location. They're right at 2710 Prairie Lakes Drive in
- 11:09Speaker 1: Sun Prairie. If you can hear our voices this morning,
- 11:11Speaker 1: you are nearby the convenient location of Checkout Veterinary. You
- 11:14Speaker 1: can also, of course, make that appointment over the phone, 608-318-6700.
- 11:17Speaker 2: That's 608-318-6700.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Open seven days a week at Checkout Vet. And that
- 11:19Speaker 1: first visit, that wellness exam, it is free. Everything you
- 11:27Speaker 1: need to know right online, CheckOutVet.com. That's CheckOutVet.com. We'll get
- 11:31Speaker 1: to our conversation with Dr.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Greer.
- 11:32Speaker 1: We'll talk a little bit more about Check Out Veterinary.
- 11:34Speaker 1: We'll also talk a little bit about Check In Vet
- 11:36Speaker 1: as well, some of the distinctions and differences between the
- 11:39Speaker 1: two clinics. We'll get those details from Dr.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Greer.
- 11:41Speaker 1: We will do that next as Ask the Experts. with
- 11:44Speaker 1: Checkout Veterinary continues right here on 1310 WIBA. 847-1310 WIBA
- 11:50Speaker 1: and Ask the Experts, brought to you by Checkout Veterinary online, checkoutvet.com.
- 11:55Speaker 1: That's checkoutvet.com. Great day to make that appointment for your pet. Again,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you can do it right online, checkoutvet.com, or call the clinic, 608-318-6700.
- 12:04Speaker 1: That's 608-318-6700.
- 12:08Speaker 2: 318-6700.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Of course, Checkout Veterinary opens seven days a week. And
- 12:11Speaker 1: that first visit, that exam, it is free. And they
- 12:13Speaker 1: are accepting new patients right now. So it's a great
- 12:16Speaker 1: opportunity to make that appointment at Checkout Vet. Again, the
- 12:19Speaker 1: website CheckoutVet.com. That's CheckoutVet.com. Talking with Dr. Marty Greer, recognized
- 12:24Speaker 1: as Veterinarian of the Year from Westminster Kennel Club. Don't
- 12:26Speaker 1: forget about Dr. Greer's podcast, The Marty and Laura Show.
- 12:29Speaker 1: You can find that right online if you Google it.
- 12:32Speaker 1: They're also on Facebook and social media as well. You
- 12:34Speaker 1: will find them right away.
- 12:35Speaker 2: And Dr.
- 12:36Speaker 1: One of the things I did want to talk about, too,
- 12:38Speaker 1: is just the response, at least, and you see it
- 12:42Speaker 1: every day, I will tell you this, in talking with
- 12:45Speaker 1: you over the years, the response I've heard from folks,
- 12:49Speaker 1: what a wild success, is people are really responding. They
- 12:52Speaker 1: really love what you do, and you're seeing that. You
- 12:55Speaker 1: guys are really doing great stuff in the community, and
- 13:00Speaker 1: people are definitely getting in. One of the things, though,
- 13:03Speaker 1: that I do love, and I don't know if it's
- 13:05Speaker 1: because of the design or the setup, is even though
- 13:07Speaker 1: you guys have seen a lot of patients, a lot
- 13:09Speaker 1: of pets, you're still getting people in. This is amazing.
- 13:13Speaker 1: And I don't know, again, if it's part of the
- 13:14Speaker 1: design or what, but you're still able to get people
- 13:17Speaker 1: and their pets in on a short timeline. That's pretty
- 13:20Speaker 1: amazing as well, isn't it, in modern pet care?
- 13:23Speaker 2: Right. Because of the efficiencies that are built into the
- 13:25Speaker 2: structure and the design, it works out really well. And
- 13:28Speaker 2: then if you do have something that comes up at
- 13:30Speaker 2: the visit, we find a lump. or you have a
- 13:32Speaker 2: question about a lump or dental disease or a heart
- 13:35Speaker 2: problem or we find something on lab work, then we
- 13:38Speaker 2: have that check-in veterinary option that we can do more
- 13:42Speaker 2: full service. We can do x-rays. We can do surgery, anesthesia.
- 13:45Speaker 2: We can have ultrasounds done with a radiologist. We have
- 13:48Speaker 2: lots of other resources. So basically, we've got everything kind
- 13:52Speaker 2: of aligned. I have a doctor that does a magnificent
- 13:55Speaker 2: job with surgery. She's amazing. So we have a huge
- 13:59Speaker 2: set of resources. I've been around for 45 years, so
- 14:03Speaker 2: I know all the right people, all the right things.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I know who I want to use for what services.
- 14:07Speaker 2: So we've got all those things aligned. And then when
- 14:09Speaker 2: we added Marshall to the family, that just gave us
- 14:12Speaker 2: even more depth because now we have a bigger range
- 14:14Speaker 2: of areas that we cover. Between LaMira, Marshall, and Sun Prairie,
- 14:18Speaker 2: we've got a very large range. So it gives you options.
- 14:22Speaker 2: And Marshall's Monday through Friday, but if something happens and
- 14:24Speaker 2: you're a client at Marshall's clinic, then you can always
- 14:28Speaker 2: use the service at Sun. check out over the weekend
- 14:32Speaker 2: and check in is open also on Saturday afternoons at
- 14:35Speaker 2: this point so that we can also manage some of
- 14:38Speaker 2: the additional things that might happen over a weekend with
- 14:41Speaker 2: something that, you know, your dog isn't feeling well, we
- 14:43Speaker 2: need an x-ray, they're coughing or something comes up. So
- 14:46Speaker 2: we've been able to assimilate an amazing group of very
- 14:50Speaker 2: talented veterinarians with resources beyond that. So if something comes up,
- 14:54Speaker 2: we can get you in, we can refer you to
- 14:56Speaker 2: a place that's going to be able to manage what's
- 14:59Speaker 2: appropriate for you And instead of trying to guess which
- 15:01Speaker 2: clinic or where you should be going for your next
- 15:03Speaker 2: level of care, my doctors are all able to really
- 15:07Speaker 2: assess your situation and get you taken care of. So
- 15:10Speaker 2: we have a depth and breadth of information and knowledge
- 15:13Speaker 2: that keepers, a lot of people just don't have because
- 15:16Speaker 2: they don't have that level of experience and the level
- 15:19Speaker 2: of relationships that we have at the clinic.
- 15:24Speaker 1: You know, one of the things too, as folks have
- 15:26Speaker 1: gotten to know you and learned about CheckoutVet, referrals are
- 15:29Speaker 1: important too, is I think sometimes we forget that, you know,
- 15:32Speaker 1: we get this great information. We're like, oh, I love Dr.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Greer.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I love Checkout Vet. I love all that they're doing.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I love the model. And then we kind of keep
- 15:39Speaker 1: it to ourselves. This is one of those things too, doctor.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I know once people have had a chance, and I
- 15:43Speaker 1: know you encourage people to stop on out, check out
- 15:46Speaker 1: the clinic. For a lot of folks, whether they first
- 15:49Speaker 1: time experience or they heard from somebody else or, or
- 15:53Speaker 1: they've heard the show, simply getting in there, they are
- 15:57Speaker 1: very appreciative. But it's important as well to share that
- 16:00Speaker 1: information with folks that may not have had the opportunity
- 16:03Speaker 1: to learn about Checkout Vet. And I know you get
- 16:05Speaker 1: a lot of folks through word of mouth, don't you?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Oh, for sure. But if all you want to do
- 16:10Speaker 2: is just drive over and come in and look around
- 16:13Speaker 2: and let your dog get out of the car or
- 16:14Speaker 2: your cat, come into the exam room and see, is
- 16:17Speaker 2: this the style of veterinary clinic you're looking for? Do
- 16:20Speaker 2: my doctors meet your needs? Are our staff the kind
- 16:23Speaker 2: of people that you want to work with? We're available.
- 16:25Speaker 2: If all you want to do is just do a
- 16:27Speaker 2: meet and greet, gosh, you're not obligated to anything. It's
- 16:29Speaker 2: a free visit for your first time in. So if
- 16:31Speaker 2: you haven't been to either check in or check out,
- 16:33Speaker 2: we can do the first wellness visit for free. And
- 16:36Speaker 2: we would love to have a chance to introduce ourselves
- 16:38Speaker 2: to you and vice versa so that you can see
- 16:39Speaker 2: what we do. And we do some really cool stuff.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Like we're going to have a reindeer for photo opportunities
- 16:44Speaker 2: in December. You know, we're We're involved in the community.
- 16:47Speaker 2: We're going to do the dog fair in November that
- 16:49Speaker 2: they have at the Alliance Center, so part of Badger
- 16:51Speaker 2: Kennel Club. So we do some really fun stuff in
- 16:53Speaker 2: the community, and I'm just really proud of the staff
- 16:56Speaker 2: that I have and the level of interest that they
- 16:58Speaker 2: have in helping people and being involved in community efforts.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And this is the cool stuff that goes on out there.
- 17:04Speaker 2: There's just so much that we can do.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And it's important as you talk about all those different
- 17:10Speaker 1: events as well. I know you put those up on
- 17:12Speaker 1: the website, also social media. You're active there as well.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And doctor, something I wanted to point out too is
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think a lot of times people think, well, I'm
- 17:20Speaker 1: going to go to a new vet when I get
- 17:21Speaker 1: a new pet. Something I hear a lot from people
- 17:23Speaker 1: is that I've been going to this certain vet for years,
- 17:27Speaker 1: but things have changed. And people may not realize this.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Veterinary care has changed. You may have been seeing a
- 17:33Speaker 1: particular doctor for a number of years and And maybe
- 17:37Speaker 1: you've noticed maybe things are just different. And some of
- 17:40Speaker 1: it has to do with what's kind of going on
- 17:42Speaker 1: behind the scenes. A lot of people may not be aware.
- 17:45Speaker 1: There are very, very few locally owned, privately owned vet
- 17:50Speaker 1: care clinics and urgent care clinics as well. You're right.
- 17:57Speaker 1: If you're feeling that things at your vet clinic that
- 17:59Speaker 1: you've been going to for years have changed, they may
- 18:01Speaker 1: very well have, correct? Or am I off on that?
- 18:05Speaker 2: Right. No, you're absolutely right. It may be that the
- 18:07Speaker 2: veterinarian retired. It may be that they sold the corporate. Now,
- 18:10Speaker 2: not everybody has, but certainly there's enough of them that
- 18:13Speaker 2: have that has initiated a change. And it's not always obvious.
- 18:17Speaker 2: They don't always put information on the website in a
- 18:19Speaker 2: place that's obvious. So if you feel like something doesn't
- 18:21Speaker 2: seem the same, maybe, I mean, gosh, you know, a
- 18:24Speaker 2: lot of veterinarians have retired because they've gotten into their
- 18:26Speaker 2: late 60s and early 70s and said, you know what,
- 18:29Speaker 2: I probably just need to slow down a little bit here.
- 18:32Speaker 2: And that's perfectly acceptable. And I think we should have
- 18:34Speaker 2: great retirements. But if you feel like things just don't
- 18:38Speaker 2: seem the same, take a look at the website, go
- 18:40Speaker 2: poking around a little bit and see, or just ask
- 18:42Speaker 2: the staff if something has changed. And it may be
- 18:45Speaker 2: that they've sold to an associate. It may be that
- 18:47Speaker 2: they've sold to corporate. And that's definitely going to create
- 18:50Speaker 2: some changes. So just be familiar with the fact that
- 18:54Speaker 2: that has happened. But it doesn't have to be the end.
- 18:57Speaker 2: There are lots of options. And we're more than happy
- 18:59Speaker 2: to see you. We are not corporate. We are family-owned.
- 19:02Speaker 2: My husband and I own the practices. in Marshall and
- 19:05Speaker 2: Sun Prairie and then we have three other associates that
- 19:07Speaker 2: are owners of the Lemaire practice. So, we are all
- 19:09Speaker 2: family owned. Two of the people in our practice in
- 19:13Speaker 2: Lemaire are married to one another. So, we're trying to
- 19:18Speaker 2: stay really close and family owned and make decisions. We
- 19:22Speaker 2: have a weekly meeting with all of our practices that
- 19:24Speaker 2: we sit down and go through all the stuff. We
- 19:27Speaker 2: work really hard to try and get ahead of anything
- 19:29Speaker 2: that might happen. So we want you to feel like
- 19:33Speaker 2: your voice is heard. If you have a question, you
- 19:35Speaker 2: have a concern, you feel like something didn't get addressed
- 19:38Speaker 2: the way you wanted it to, or you have some
- 19:40Speaker 2: great idea to share with us, let us know because
- 19:43Speaker 2: we are making decisions at the local level. We are
- 19:45Speaker 2: not deciding at some corporation level.
- 19:48Speaker 1: With that, two doctors as we talk. with Dr. Marty
- 19:50Speaker 1: Greer and that, and we talk about the, you know,
- 19:53Speaker 1: that first visit, that exam, really getting to know the
- 19:56Speaker 1: doctors and the team at checkout veterinary. That's part of the,
- 19:59Speaker 1: that great benefit is having that such an important relationship
- 20:02Speaker 1: and establishing that relationship. And they, they really want to
- 20:05Speaker 1: get to know you and your pet and really make
- 20:07Speaker 1: sure it's a good fit. That's a great opportunity for you.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Of course, you can do that right online. CheckoutVet.com. That's CheckoutVet.com.
- 20:13Speaker 1: That first visit is free. That exam, that wellness exam.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Oregon McCall, 608-318-6700. That's 608-318-6700. I did want to ask
- 20:20Speaker 1: you too, doctor, you mentioned with doctors retiring and those
- 20:25Speaker 1: types of situations, are we seeing backfill? I know a
- 20:27Speaker 1: lot of students are heading back today, university starting to
- 20:31Speaker 1: move into the dorms and some other things. Are we
- 20:33Speaker 1: seeing an adequate number of young folks getting into veterinary care?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Or is that an area of, as we kind of
- 20:39Speaker 1: look at big picture and kind of pull the camera
- 20:41Speaker 1: back a bit, is that something that we're not seeing
- 20:44Speaker 1: enough backfill basically for those roles?
- 20:48Speaker 2: Well, veterinary medicine is still a very appealing career for
- 20:51Speaker 2: a lot of young people, whether it's becoming a veterinary
- 20:54Speaker 2: technician or becoming a veterinarian, there's still a great deal
- 20:56Speaker 2: of appeal to that. So we are definitely seeing that,
- 20:59Speaker 2: and there are new veterinary schools that are being developed.
- 21:02Speaker 2: So it's definitely not that it's doom and gloom. There's
- 21:06Speaker 2: plenty of future ahead of us, but there's always a
- 21:10Speaker 2: bit of a lag between the time a veterinary school
- 21:12Speaker 2: opens and the time they graduate their first class. So
- 21:15Speaker 2: it won't be immediate that we see some of these responses,
- 21:18Speaker 2: but there are definitely improvements in what's available for educational opportunity.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And we would love to have, if somebody thinks they
- 21:27Speaker 2: might want to be a veterinarian, they might want to
- 21:29Speaker 2: see what veterinary medicine is like, by all means, give
- 21:32Speaker 2: us a call. Come in, spend a day with us.
- 21:34Speaker 2: There's a couple things that we have for guidelines so
- 21:36Speaker 2: we can share those with you. But basically, it's don't
- 21:39Speaker 2: wear jeans and wear closed-toe shoes and eat breakfast. It's
- 21:41Speaker 2: pretty simple. But we'd love to have you come in,
- 21:44Speaker 2: spend the day or spend a few days with us
- 21:46Speaker 2: and see if veterinary medicine is the career for you
- 21:49Speaker 2: because it is such an amazing career. I absolutely could
- 21:52Speaker 2: not have picked a better career choice for myself. I
- 21:55Speaker 2: love everything that I do. Every day I get to
- 21:57Speaker 2: go to work is just amazing. So I can't tell
- 22:01Speaker 2: you that I could have had a better opportunity anywhere else.
- 22:03Speaker 2: So it's an amazing life.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And one final thing I want to ask you about is,
- 22:08Speaker 1: you touched on it a bit there, but why did
- 22:10Speaker 1: you choose veterinary? When did you decide, you know what,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I want to become a veterinarian? For you, Dr. Greer,
- 22:15Speaker 1: what was that thought process there?
- 22:19Speaker 2: Well, in high school, I thought that that's what I
- 22:21Speaker 2: wanted to do. And so my dad made arrangements for
- 22:24Speaker 2: me to spend some time with a veterinarian that was
- 22:25Speaker 2: doing mixed animal practice in Missouri. We lived in Nebraska,
- 22:29Speaker 2: so Missouri was a two-hour drive. So I got to
- 22:31Speaker 2: spend a few days with him and then went back
- 22:33Speaker 2: another time because I enjoyed it so much. Then I
- 22:36Speaker 2: got a job at a veterinary clinic. My first job
- 22:38Speaker 2: was a receptionist. So I had the opportunity to work
- 22:42Speaker 2: at a vet clinic, a small two-doctor practice in Omaha,
- 22:45Speaker 2: and just absolutely fell in love with it. I would
- 22:47Speaker 2: come home every day and just talk and talk and
- 22:49Speaker 2: talk and talk about it. I walked in one day
- 22:52Speaker 2: and there was another doctor in the building and I said, Um,
- 22:55Speaker 2: so who is this guy? And the two guys that
- 22:57Speaker 2: I was working for laughed and they said to me,
- 23:00Speaker 2: you asked so many questions. We had to hire a
- 23:02Speaker 2: third vet. I'm like, Oh no, I'm sorry. They were kidding.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Of course. Um, he was a classmate of theirs that
- 23:07Speaker 2: was in town and visiting, but that's how much I
- 23:09Speaker 2: love this. And this was just absolutely a joy for
- 23:13Speaker 2: me to go to work every day. And it still is. Uh,
- 23:16Speaker 2: if I stopped having joy in this, I should stop practicing.
- 23:19Speaker 2: And honestly, my husband and I both just absolutely love
- 23:21Speaker 2: what we do every day. I can't keep him from
- 23:24Speaker 2: going to the office. He goes in seven days a
- 23:26Speaker 2: week just because he loved it. So it's fun for us,
- 23:30Speaker 2: and that's what I want for other people. I want
- 23:32Speaker 2: that for my doctors, for my team members. I want
- 23:35Speaker 2: the future veterinarians out there who think they may want
- 23:37Speaker 2: to go into this. You know, human medicine, ooh, it's
- 23:41Speaker 2: so much different than that. It's such a blast. So
- 23:44Speaker 2: I would certainly encourage people to spend time pursuing that information.
- 23:49Speaker 2: If you're close to us, please call us and come
- 23:52Speaker 2: in and spend the day.
- 23:53Speaker 1: That love and passion as well runs throughout the entire clinic.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Dr.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Greer, thank you so much for joining us. You have
- 23:58Speaker 1: a great day. Don't be a stranger, and we'll talk
- 24:00Speaker 1: real soon.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 24:02Speaker 1: And again, that website, CheckoutVet.com. That's CheckoutVet.com. Vicki McKenna comes
- 24:07Speaker 1: your way next right here on 1310 WIBA.
