- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Paul, did you get Josh Bledsoe's autograph yesterday?
- 0:16Speaker 1: I have not gotten Josh Bledzo's autograph. I hear the
- 0:18Speaker 1: Douce crew is here. Douce crew is here, the full
- 0:21Speaker 1: Douce crew is here. I touchdown on Oh and he
- 0:23Speaker 1: got the crowd out and he just heard himself. I kid,
- 0:28Speaker 1: I kid, I don't remember seeing it in the three
- 0:30Speaker 1: plus days now that we've been out, and I think
- 0:32Speaker 1: you're right. You know, we go far with them. Has
- 0:35Speaker 1: what happened this week? No, okay, you're right a lot
- 0:37Speaker 1: of Paul, you're right today. That's the way that's I
- 0:40Speaker 1: tell Bath all the time. First time we called his name,
- 0:42Speaker 1: still waiting to call Ronnie Perkins. That seemed like an
- 0:44Speaker 1: unnecessary shot by Deuce right there, I said, to check
- 0:47Speaker 1: Twitter and find out how grad he's been today. Wow,
- 0:50Speaker 1: just the shots are just flying. When the joints come,
- 0:53Speaker 1: we'll probably we'll probably if you got him, we'll drop
- 0:57Speaker 1: back flip to Stevenson otherwise known as a screen. Is
- 1:03Speaker 1: that a screen. I want to see if I can
- 1:05Speaker 1: make Fred punch. This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:12Speaker 1: All right, we are here back in the studio, Patriots Unfiltered,
- 1:15Speaker 1: inside the bottles of Gillette Stadium. I am might do so,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Paul Purlo, this is Patriots Unfiltered. No Fred Kirsch today.
- 1:22Speaker 1: So for those waiting for the Big boss Man, he's
- 1:24Speaker 1: out today. So fortunate because I won't get him to
- 1:26Speaker 1: punch me. Yeah, which was my goal of the last show.
- 1:28Speaker 1: But you know what, that's all right, there's plenty to
- 1:30Speaker 1: talk about today. We've observed what is it, six practices
- 1:33Speaker 1: Now I have six practices, the second one in full pads,
- 1:36Speaker 1: due second one in full pads today, and even though
- 1:38Speaker 1: it's just me and Pauli's starting everything off, we're gonna
- 1:40Speaker 1: have everybody kind of coming in. We'll have Tomorrow, we'll
- 1:42Speaker 1: have Alex, we'll have Evan coming into way in. They're
- 1:45Speaker 1: finishing up outside with Mac as practice ran up against
- 1:49Speaker 1: the start of the show, but we wanted to get in.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Of course, you guys probably listen to the live shows,
- 1:53Speaker 1: so you maybe have a little bit of a sense,
- 1:54Speaker 1: but we're here to get you caught up on everything
- 1:57Speaker 1: that we've we've seen from the last week or of
- 1:59Speaker 1: practice is here, So please, you know, right in webmail
- 2:02Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com, give us a call. Uh, it's
- 2:05Speaker 1: eight five five pats five hundred. Web radio at Patriots
- 2:08Speaker 1: dot com. Thank you Matt for correcting me on that
- 2:10Speaker 1: eight five pats five hundred as well. Give us a call. Hey,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I'm still learning here, got thrust into this. I'm still
- 2:16Speaker 1: but but Paul, I'm sure everyone's kind of you know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: caught up a little bit at least on the last
- 2:19Speaker 1: day or so a practices. But um, but let's start
- 2:21Speaker 1: off just today with what what kind of your key
- 2:24Speaker 1: takeaway was from watching things out there? Yeah, just later
- 2:26Speaker 1: the last two days in pads, so a little bit
- 2:29Speaker 1: more physicality. Obviously, a lot of one on one stuff
- 2:32Speaker 1: pass rushers against offensive lineman. I thought the offensive line
- 2:37Speaker 1: as a whole did a pretty good job today with
- 2:39Speaker 1: that part of it. Um, got a chance to see
- 2:42Speaker 1: a couple of those reps. I thought Cole Strange was
- 2:44Speaker 1: better than he was yesterday. Uh. In that regard, Trent
- 2:47Speaker 1: Brown just absolutely dominating dudes left and right. Um, A
- 2:51Speaker 1: little bit less so for Isaiah Win. I thought Josh
- 2:54Speaker 1: Jay was pretty solid in that drill today. You know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: quicker guy looked like he gave Win some trouble on
- 3:00Speaker 1: the other side. A lot of one on ones with
- 3:02Speaker 1: the receivers in the cornerbacks and one guy Mike that
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm really starting to be intrigued about. The whole year
- 3:09Speaker 1: two thing. Is Nelson Agilore the year two free agent thing,
- 3:12Speaker 1: because I think he's looked pretty good in this camp.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I think today he had another strong day. Yeah, number
- 3:16Speaker 1: of catches. I mean I was kind of focused more
- 3:19Speaker 1: on the one on ones. And you know, all my
- 3:21Speaker 1: stats back up your keen football at Paul like I had.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I had Trump Brown down three and one, I had
- 3:25Speaker 1: win two and two. One he fell on the only
- 3:27Speaker 1: one Trump Brown I had losing was oo which j
- 3:30Speaker 1: just kind of made a little cut got unneath him.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But you know, you don't That's why you don't need
- 3:33Speaker 1: the stats. The eye and the sky don't lie. But
- 3:38Speaker 1: Agilore had a nice, a nice catch in the back
- 3:40Speaker 1: of the end zone today. However, you know, the offense,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I think that people are probably aware that the storyline
- 3:46Speaker 1: is the offense has has not been off to the
- 3:49Speaker 1: greatest start. It feels like they're kind of struggling to
- 3:51Speaker 1: put multiple plays together. And you know, I don't want
- 3:54Speaker 1: to torch them and say, you know, of course they're
- 3:56Speaker 1: putting in some new schemes, some new plays. They've been
- 3:58Speaker 1: telling us that the offense is simplified, but it looks
- 4:01Speaker 1: like so far it hasn't really took yet. And you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: they just they can't really seem to play. They'll make
- 4:06Speaker 1: one good play, they'll have a good you know, play
- 4:08Speaker 1: down down the field a little bit. They'll come back
- 4:11Speaker 1: and you know, nobody will open. Mac will have to
- 4:12Speaker 1: throw the ball into the ground, or you know, Mac
- 4:14Speaker 1: will have to do the pseudo scramble and you know,
- 4:16Speaker 1: gets a nice cheer from the crowd. They love watching
- 4:18Speaker 1: Mac run. But I don't think it's what what they're
- 4:20Speaker 1: looking for. So I think where we're living right now
- 4:22Speaker 1: is how much leeway do you give the offense with
- 4:25Speaker 1: you know, some of the changes that they've been doing,
- 4:27Speaker 1: the new coaching arrangement, all those things, of course, but
- 4:30Speaker 1: or to the defense or the defense, you know, I
- 4:32Speaker 1: don't think we were expecting much coming into to camp.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I was more concerned about the defensive side of the ball. Uh, certainly.
- 4:38Speaker 1: These are all situations where it's tough on the defense
- 4:41Speaker 1: at times. Guys are wearing gloves, guys are both on
- 4:44Speaker 1: the offensive line, in the in the secondary. So um,
- 4:47Speaker 1: but you kind of feel a little bit positive about
- 4:49Speaker 1: the defense at least how they're they're stringing some things together.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And I think, you know, some of the guys that
- 4:53Speaker 1: we were hoping to see pop a little bit. I
- 4:56Speaker 1: think you're starting to see a little bit Anthony Jennings
- 4:58Speaker 1: kind of in the mix, a little bit more like
- 5:00Speaker 1: he's playing with a little bit of a chip on
- 5:01Speaker 1: his shoulder as one guy just did. I find some
- 5:03Speaker 1: of that interesting too, And you know, you and I
- 5:05Speaker 1: were talking about this during practice with Bighead. Just sort
- 5:09Speaker 1: of interesting to see which guys now starting to make,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, the move between one side of the field
- 5:17Speaker 1: of the other. And we always talk about there's there's
- 5:19Speaker 1: one side is usually the front line players, guys that
- 5:23Speaker 1: you more associate with stadters um, and we've seen, um,
- 5:27Speaker 1: some of the guys involved in that. Um. You know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'm trying to look at my my notes here because
- 5:34Speaker 1: I want to get the right guys. Um. You know,
- 5:36Speaker 1: Josh Bledsoe stays over with the front line guys. Miles
- 5:39Speaker 1: Bryant has sort of jumped right in obviously. Jonathan Jones
- 5:42Speaker 1: Jennings is a guy you just brought up. I find
- 5:45Speaker 1: him sort of behind Jude on getting some reps there
- 5:49Speaker 1: with with a higher level players, whereas today Ronnie Perkins,
- 5:54Speaker 1: Cameron mcgron, Sean Wade, some of those guys were on
- 5:56Speaker 1: the other side with some of the some of the
- 5:59Speaker 1: younger players and backups. So interesting, I see Marcus and
- 6:03Speaker 1: Jack Jones sort of involved in both of those groups.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So I think that the idea there is to just
- 6:08Speaker 1: get them as many reps as possible. But yeah, it's
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's kind of interesting to see how six days in
- 6:13Speaker 1: a couple of days and pads, how those kinds of
- 6:16Speaker 1: depth charts are mental for me, you know, mentally, how
- 6:19Speaker 1: that that's for me. Yeah. Another name that people probably
- 6:21Speaker 1: weren't really counting on much, Arlington Hambright. He's another guy
- 6:24Speaker 1: that you know, did pretty well in his in his
- 6:26Speaker 1: one on ones and seems to be getting some opportunities
- 6:28Speaker 1: as maybe like the second or third right guard in
- 6:31Speaker 1: So I think they're trying to discover what they have
- 6:33Speaker 1: for depth there at guard. We knew that that was
- 6:35Speaker 1: going to be a position of transition. But it's always
- 6:37Speaker 1: he spend a lot of season talking about all these
- 6:39Speaker 1: guys and then all of a sudden, you know, Arlington
- 6:40Speaker 1: Hambright is somebody that that kind of out of nowhere is,
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know, getting a little look right now doesn't mean
- 6:45Speaker 1: that he's he's destined for amazing, huge role yet. But
- 6:49Speaker 1: h and one other guy just wanted to touch on
- 6:51Speaker 1: off the top with time Montgomery, it just feels like
- 6:53Speaker 1: he's involved in a little bit of everything, and you know,
- 6:55Speaker 1: it's just you feel like he's kind of gone the
- 6:57Speaker 1: other way the last couple of days. He's involved in everything,
- 6:59Speaker 1: but not as effect I mean, I haven't really I
- 7:01Speaker 1: just feel like I continue thought, well, it's hard though
- 7:05Speaker 1: we've seen him do some carries and and we've seen
- 7:08Speaker 1: him do some kickoff returns. I guess it's hard to
- 7:11Speaker 1: judge the overall UH contributions of everybody right now because
- 7:14Speaker 1: it just seems like there's a good play, there's a
- 7:16Speaker 1: bad play, and you know you're up and down. I
- 7:18Speaker 1: just feel like like Montgomery is the guy that just
- 7:19Speaker 1: seems involved, and you know, James White still not out here.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The only guy on PUP that that hasn't hasn't returned yet,
- 7:25Speaker 1: so um, he could potentially be another another guy that
- 7:29Speaker 1: uh gets some more playing time. So let's talk about
- 7:33Speaker 1: Mac now. I think he's just wrapping up his his
- 7:35Speaker 1: media vail and uh yeah, you know, I think he's
- 7:39Speaker 1: had some moments. He's had some nice deep throws, but
- 7:41Speaker 1: but overall it's just the consistency is what I think
- 7:45Speaker 1: is lacking, and there's just too much up and down.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Talked about Saturday's practice. He kind of went off the
- 7:51Speaker 1: field looking a little bit down. But I mean we
- 7:53Speaker 1: talked Paul during the show or I'm sorry when we
- 7:56Speaker 1: were just watching practice that you know, there's not as
- 7:57Speaker 1: much as this demonstrative hitting his thigh pads getting frustration.
- 8:01Speaker 1: We haven't seen as much as a tennis player. Yeah
- 8:03Speaker 1: that as we did last year. You know, it seems
- 8:05Speaker 1: like he's holding in in a little bit better. Certainly
- 8:07Speaker 1: he was a little bit I think fired up after
- 8:10Speaker 1: Saturday's performance. Not quite the same kind of reactions today. Well,
- 8:13Speaker 1: of course we'll see what he has to here. Of course,
- 8:15Speaker 1: Tamara's joining us right now, so she's fresh in off
- 8:18Speaker 1: the field and Mac Jones, so, uh, Tamara as soon
- 8:21Speaker 1: as you get ready, maybe you can give us a
- 8:23Speaker 1: little a little insight into how Mac was and what
- 8:26Speaker 1: he had to say here at his media availability today anything.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So coincidentally, the first question was about how we saw
- 8:38Speaker 1: him scramble a few times today and was that a
- 8:41Speaker 1: design run or you know, was that a play breaking down?
- 8:44Speaker 1: And you know, him trying to run for a first
- 8:46Speaker 1: down and he's like, you know, my goal every single
- 8:48Speaker 1: time is to get the ball into a receiver's hand,
- 8:51Speaker 1: into a running back's hand. And so I thought that
- 8:54Speaker 1: was pretty interesting because we were all kind of wondering
- 8:58Speaker 1: in the media tent, you know, was that a design
- 9:01Speaker 1: run that we just saw? Um? And so he kind
- 9:04Speaker 1: of turned away from that and and clarify that, you know, no,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I was aiming to get into a receiver or running
- 9:11Speaker 1: backs hand and so um, I feel like that was
- 9:13Speaker 1: kind of a focus for a little bit while. And
- 9:15Speaker 1: then you know, he just said, you know, talking about
- 9:18Speaker 1: his connections with Devonte Parker and Kendrick Bourne, et cetera,
- 9:21Speaker 1: just elaborating on that hits his job to get them
- 9:24Speaker 1: the ball and like, we have a lot of really
- 9:26Speaker 1: talented guys in the receiving corps and just it's his
- 9:28Speaker 1: job to get it to him, and so that's that's
- 9:30Speaker 1: kind of his focus, you know, very kind of virgeneric,
- 9:33Speaker 1: a whole lot of nothing. Um, did he seem frustrated?
- 9:36Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to, like I would assume
- 9:38Speaker 1: he doesn't carry the frustration over into the press conferences.
- 9:40Speaker 1: But I just it's I think there was so much
- 9:43Speaker 1: build up this year for Mac year two, year two
- 9:45Speaker 1: with the weapons, and he's been working with everybody, and
- 9:47Speaker 1: you know, you were hoping that it looked smooth, um,
- 9:50Speaker 1: but you know, it's just it hasn't yet. I don't
- 9:51Speaker 1: want to overreact. I know that it's easy to you know,
- 9:54Speaker 1: go crazy over six practices when you've been waiting all
- 9:57Speaker 1: year for it. But um, overall these seemed okay, yeah, okay.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I didn't get frustrated vibes at all. Yeah. Well, yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 1: we'll see how he continues. Yeah, I just I just
- 10:07Speaker 1: want to we're going to continue. This is gonna be
- 10:09Speaker 1: two hours about the Patriots training camp so far, but
- 10:11Speaker 1: I just I do want to talk about because a
- 10:14Speaker 1: lot of people are tweeting in about it too. Just
- 10:16Speaker 1: that the NFL had made a ruling today about the
- 10:19Speaker 1: Dolphins and found them guilty of impermissible impermissible communications with
- 10:24Speaker 1: quarterback Tom Brady in nineteen and twenty while he was
- 10:26Speaker 1: under contract with the New England Patriots. Those communications began
- 10:30Speaker 1: his earliest August of twenty nineteen, so that was training
- 10:33Speaker 1: camp of his last year while he was still in Foxborough,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and continued through the nineteen season in the postseason. So
- 10:39Speaker 1: they were docked first and third round picks. I believe
- 10:43Speaker 1: Stephen Ross was suspended through October. Find one point five
- 10:48Speaker 1: million plus there was another member of the front office
- 10:52Speaker 1: I think find another five hundred thousand. So the only
- 10:55Speaker 1: thing that they didn't find anything of is what the
- 10:57Speaker 1: NFL originally said there was no evidence of. And that
- 11:01Speaker 1: was sort of the the the blatant tanking because and
- 11:04Speaker 1: I said at the time, if they find evidence that
- 11:08Speaker 1: they lost games on purpose, Steven Ross is going to
- 11:10Speaker 1: lose that that that franchise, There's no doubt in my mind.
- 11:13Speaker 1: But this is this is not a slap on the
- 11:15Speaker 1: wrist the first and third round picks heavy finds. This
- 11:19Speaker 1: was this is serious stuff. Well that might mean this
- 11:21Speaker 1: is crazy to me that they I mean, I always
- 11:23Speaker 1: thought it was Tampa and that was the end of
- 11:24Speaker 1: this year that they were trying to get them to
- 11:26Speaker 1: come over next year. But I mean this is new
- 11:28Speaker 1: information and also with the page also part of it too,
- 11:31Speaker 1: this finding is that they were trying to get them
- 11:33Speaker 1: to become an executive this year. It kind of puts
- 11:36Speaker 1: a little bit of a different light on on that
- 11:38Speaker 1: Miami end of season last game a little bit in
- 11:40Speaker 1: twenty nineteen when they were playing for home field advantage
- 11:43Speaker 1: and then lost that one. Uh, you know, plenty of
- 11:45Speaker 1: time to get back to that, I'm sure as things go,
- 11:47Speaker 1: but um, you know, certainly send your questions in. I mean,
- 11:50Speaker 1: we could go right down the roster probably and tell
- 11:52Speaker 1: you a little bit of something about everything everybody on there. Um,
- 11:56Speaker 1: but let's you know, I want to go to the
- 11:57Speaker 1: defense though a little bit too, and just uh, you
- 11:59Speaker 1: know what Paul has stood out to you of of
- 12:01Speaker 1: why they're you know, why they've been able to sty
- 12:04Speaker 1: me the offense a little bit. You know there, What
- 12:06Speaker 1: have you felt like have been the kind of the
- 12:08Speaker 1: key pieces of the defense that that have stood out
- 12:11Speaker 1: to you? Well, I think the secondary has been pretty
- 12:13Speaker 1: solid overall, but I also think that consistently, especially these
- 12:17Speaker 1: two days since the pads have been on and I
- 12:18Speaker 1: don't know how you feel to matter, if you feel
- 12:20Speaker 1: any different, but I feel like the defensive front has
- 12:24Speaker 1: controlled the line of scrimmage. Yes, unvirtually every play, Like
- 12:26Speaker 1: some of the running plays. Running backs are getting hit,
- 12:29Speaker 1: not like smashed or anything like that, but they're getting
- 12:32Speaker 1: hit almost literally as soon as the ball gets in
- 12:36Speaker 1: their hands. There's nowhere to go, There's nowhere to go, right,
- 12:40Speaker 1: So I would say that, you know, the defensive front
- 12:43Speaker 1: has been better than the offensive front forward for the
- 12:47Speaker 1: for the Patriots, and that's been consistent through the first
- 12:49Speaker 1: two days with pads On. Yeah, a lot of a
- 12:51Speaker 1: lot of Matthew jude On, a lot of ray Qua
- 12:53Speaker 1: McMillan getting involved. You know, Mac Wilson another guy that
- 12:57Speaker 1: that's kind of popped a little bit. Just I mean,
- 12:59Speaker 1: like Paul said, I think there's there's groups. You see
- 13:01Speaker 1: one field as kind of the learning group, and then
- 13:03Speaker 1: you have the other side, which is the starters. Um,
- 13:06Speaker 1: what about for you, tamara On just on the defensive
- 13:08Speaker 1: side of the ball. You know, any particular guys that
- 13:10Speaker 1: have stood out to you that have been making some place. Yeah, Um,
- 13:13Speaker 1: I think Jalen Mills, Um he's been, you know, really
- 13:17Speaker 1: active out there. I also have to say, Sean Wade,
- 13:19Speaker 1: I think that, you know, obviously, with Jonathan Jones and
- 13:21Speaker 1: Jibrill Peppers not being out there for the first start
- 13:25Speaker 1: a little bit of camp, I think that we saw
- 13:27Speaker 1: a lot a lot of him. Um. But now I
- 13:28Speaker 1: think I'm kind of looking to see what Jonathan Jones
- 13:31Speaker 1: and Jibril Peppers do now that they're back out there. Um.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I was listening to Jonathan Jones today, Everyone's like, so
- 13:37Speaker 1: are you one hundred percent back? He's like, I'm clear
- 13:39Speaker 1: to play, I'm here, I'm here, And you know, he
- 13:41Speaker 1: did talk about, you know, he did miss those first
- 13:43Speaker 1: couple of days of reps, which are super important. Um,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and so he's just going to be climbing his way
- 13:48Speaker 1: back up. Yeah. I heard Peppers too, talking a little
- 13:51Speaker 1: bit and said, you know, he's not quite one hundred percent,
- 13:53Speaker 1: but he's been listening in on walkie talkie and getting
- 13:56Speaker 1: the play calls down. Of course, Patrick Chung was here yesterday.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I asked, you know, Jibrill Pep today a little bit
- 14:00Speaker 1: about Chung and you know, studying him and the importance
- 14:04Speaker 1: of the safeties and you know, Josh Blizo was kind
- 14:06Speaker 1: of the star of early camp, getting a lot of reps,
- 14:08Speaker 1: getting a lot of run, and you know now that
- 14:10Speaker 1: Jay Jones is back, Miles Bryant's back, Peppers is back,
- 14:13Speaker 1: it feels like, you know him and Wader, you know,
- 14:15Speaker 1: getting pushed a little bit back towards that side. But
- 14:17Speaker 1: I think it speaks to the safety depth and something
- 14:19Speaker 1: that you know, I'm going to write about today. And
- 14:21Speaker 1: I think it's certainly a feature of the offense or
- 14:23Speaker 1: the defense or the way they've been rotating guys in
- 14:26Speaker 1: and I think that's kind of characterizes a lot of
- 14:28Speaker 1: the secondary and Malcolm Butler getting some rhyme. Everybody's kind
- 14:32Speaker 1: of getting some reps at least in that Like there
- 14:34Speaker 1: was a period today where like the first group was
- 14:37Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler and Jack Jones and then you know it's
- 14:40Speaker 1: generally been Mills and Mitchell and that that was what
- 14:43Speaker 1: the way they started most of the team periods. So
- 14:47Speaker 1: but just speaks to what you're talking about, just the
- 14:49Speaker 1: amount of moving pieces they have back there, and we
- 14:52Speaker 1: all know the four safeties. And Bill even made a
- 14:54Speaker 1: comment I think this morning about sort of looking forward
- 14:57Speaker 1: to getting them all on the field now I kind
- 14:59Speaker 1: of think he meant like right now, like Jabrill, Pepper's
- 15:02Speaker 1: working his way back and you know, getting him out
- 15:04Speaker 1: there with Douger, mccordy and Phillips. But it is something
- 15:08Speaker 1: that you might look down the road and say, can
- 15:10Speaker 1: they find a way to get these guys all all
- 15:13Speaker 1: involved on certain packages because they have a lot of
- 15:15Speaker 1: depth back there. I don't know if they have a
- 15:17Speaker 1: lot of answers, but there are a lot of bodies. Paul,
- 15:19Speaker 1: I have a question for you, kind of going back
- 15:22Speaker 1: to well one I have wasn't on radio when this
- 15:25Speaker 1: verse was reportedly out there, but um devon got chaw um.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Do you see the value in that? I guess as
- 15:35Speaker 1: we continue to go through camp, especially with how we've
- 15:38Speaker 1: seen the defensive line kind of just really taking control
- 15:41Speaker 1: of the offense so far, do I think, God, do
- 15:45Speaker 1: you think like from what we're what we saw today,
- 15:48Speaker 1: especially with the with the line really manhandling kind of
- 15:50Speaker 1: the offensive line, the value in signing him for that contract.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I don't. I still yeah, I don't love the contract.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I think they're offensively. I think that there's a lot
- 16:00Speaker 1: of transition going on with what they're doing. I do
- 16:03Speaker 1: think there has been some visible changes to the way
- 16:07Speaker 1: they run the ball. It's a lot of stretch, you know,
- 16:09Speaker 1: a lot of wide zone stuff, and I think it's
- 16:11Speaker 1: a little different than what they're used to do. But
- 16:14Speaker 1: you know, flat out, you have a rookie first round
- 16:16Speaker 1: pick at one guard, you have a guy playing the
- 16:18Speaker 1: other guard who couldn't solidify a starting spot last year.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I think there's some transition going on with the offensive line.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I thought it was interesting today, Mike, we both noticed
- 16:27Speaker 1: that Arlington Hambright was sort of rotating in with Michael
- 16:30Speaker 1: Owen you at that right guard spot. So it would
- 16:33Speaker 1: be about four or five plays with the regular you
- 16:36Speaker 1: know when you know, and then he would come out.
- 16:38Speaker 1: The others would stay Ty Troy Brown, Trent Brown, Isaiah
- 16:42Speaker 1: Wynn and Strange would stay in there and Hambright was
- 16:45Speaker 1: out there. So I think they're they're looking, they're mixing
- 16:47Speaker 1: and matching a little bit, trying to find out who
- 16:49Speaker 1: works best. But yeah, you're right, I mean, Gotcha has played.
- 16:52Speaker 1: He's you know, he's been upfront with you know, Barmore.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's just a monster. Yeah, he's just a monster. And
- 16:58Speaker 1: there's some of the plays that he just he just
- 17:00Speaker 1: swallowed it back today, like he reached out with one
- 17:02Speaker 1: arm and just sort of cry. I think it was
- 17:04Speaker 1: Kevin Harris just sort of like stopped him right in
- 17:07Speaker 1: his tracks. So the defensive line has been has like
- 17:10Speaker 1: I said, they've really controlled the line of scrimmage. Yeah,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I think Barmore has been just a load. I mean,
- 17:15Speaker 1: even when guys in one on one stop him for
- 17:17Speaker 1: a second, it's like if they let up even for
- 17:19Speaker 1: a moment, he's able to get a push. But we're
- 17:22Speaker 1: now another member of the team has joined us. Alex. Welcome, Welcome,
- 17:24Speaker 1: Thank you for having me. Let's let's put you on
- 17:27Speaker 1: the spot now the year. So what stood out to
- 17:29Speaker 1: you from the first few days of camp, any particular plays, players,
- 17:33Speaker 1: just overall themes that you've been taken away from from
- 17:36Speaker 1: what you've been watching out there. Yeah, I mean, I
- 17:38Speaker 1: know you guys are just talking about the defensive line
- 17:40Speaker 1: when I walked in, but UM really impressed with Barmore
- 17:44Speaker 1: what we've seen from him. Just to echo on what
- 17:47Speaker 1: you guys have just said. And Trent Brown is a monster.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Just fun watching him, like eat guys up out there,
- 17:54Speaker 1: and he's a big play I mean, and I got
- 17:56Speaker 1: to point out to the person I think that actually
- 17:58Speaker 1: stole the practice today was Adrian phillips Is little son.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah. He brought his son up to the
- 18:04Speaker 1: to the podium. Adorable little kids. So that was a
- 18:07Speaker 1: nice moment. It's always fun watching, you know, everybody's got
- 18:10Speaker 1: their fans and their family coming out. We saw Lonnie
- 18:12Speaker 1: Paxton in the crowd today, former Patriot long snapper of course.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And we're cruising now. I mean, we've got we got
- 18:20Speaker 1: a few more days of practice. We're not really sure
- 18:22Speaker 1: exactly with pads. We think at least another day or
- 18:24Speaker 1: two perhaps, but then we got the in stadium practice
- 18:28Speaker 1: at night. Uh. You know, a lot of talk about
- 18:30Speaker 1: scheme change and things are looking different. We've seen a
- 18:33Speaker 1: lot of wide zone runs those kind of things, not
- 18:35Speaker 1: a lot of pulling guards, not a lot of the
- 18:37Speaker 1: kind of the traditional kind of run game posit. I mean,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I know at this point it's we're really trying to
- 18:42Speaker 1: Maybe we'll ask Evan when he goes in, but you
- 18:44Speaker 1: know what I mean, it's just it hasn't really been
- 18:45Speaker 1: effective though, you know, it hasn't been consistent even the
- 18:48Speaker 1: run games, some of the ones, some of the reps
- 18:50Speaker 1: is ta Maris said, are getting blown up. And they've
- 18:52Speaker 1: moved a little bit more into the running game here
- 18:54Speaker 1: over the last two days with pads and aside from
- 18:57Speaker 1: a couple of plays where kind of the sea's kind
- 18:58Speaker 1: of parted, the one I'm thinking yesterday with Damien Harris,
- 19:01Speaker 1: it just it hasn't looked clean in the run game.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And I think if they're going to that scheme that's
- 19:05Speaker 1: the base of everything is making sure that you can
- 19:07Speaker 1: run that wide stretch. Yeah, And I think if they're
- 19:09Speaker 1: not able to run the football, I think they're going
- 19:11Speaker 1: to have a really hard time, you know, getting in
- 19:14Speaker 1: situations that are good for this passing game. Because I
- 19:16Speaker 1: think he is a guy, Mac Jones is a guy
- 19:19Speaker 1: that needs that. I think he needs to throw when
- 19:21Speaker 1: he wants to, as opposed to when he has to.
- 19:23Speaker 1: And right now it hasn't it hasn't been smooth. But
- 19:28Speaker 1: I'm also you know, and there was a tweet yesterday
- 19:30Speaker 1: from our Brodie Greg Budard, right, you know, called it
- 19:33Speaker 1: an abject disaster, and I'm just like, they've had five
- 19:37Speaker 1: practices and I'm not trying to be like all sunshine
- 19:39Speaker 1: and roses here, but they've had now six practices, I'm
- 19:44Speaker 1: not ready to call anything a wild success or failure
- 19:47Speaker 1: after practices. You know, we get in the middle of
- 19:49Speaker 1: October and the Patriots are having a hard time moving
- 19:52Speaker 1: the ball consistently in scoring points. Then you say, well, listen,
- 19:55Speaker 1: the transition to the new offense has taken longer than
- 19:57Speaker 1: than they they probably thought. And maybe this is and
- 20:00Speaker 1: a good fit. But right now, I do think there's
- 20:02Speaker 1: some newness to what they're doing. They're all talking about it,
- 20:04Speaker 1: which I was really surprised at from the outset of
- 20:07Speaker 1: camp with how willing some of the players have been
- 20:10Speaker 1: to say, you know, the terminology has changed, it's allowing
- 20:13Speaker 1: us to play faster. It's blah blah blah. You know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: they're acknowledging the changes to the offense, which I didn't
- 20:18Speaker 1: think they necessarily would. So that tells me that they've
- 20:21Speaker 1: changed the offense. So let's let it play out. Let's
- 20:24Speaker 1: see how the transition goes. And like I said, when
- 20:26Speaker 1: the regular season starts, if they're not moving the ball,
- 20:28Speaker 1: we'll kill them. But right now I'm willing to sort
- 20:31Speaker 1: of accept some of the growing pains that goes along
- 20:33Speaker 1: with that. Let's go, let's go through some of the
- 20:35Speaker 1: rookies too. I'm sure people are dying to hear about
- 20:38Speaker 1: the performance of them. I mean, I think Tykwon Thornton's
- 20:42Speaker 1: kind of showing up the last couple of days and
- 20:44Speaker 1: even despite contact, like yeah, holding onto the ball, that
- 20:47Speaker 1: was like the big thing. I was worried about looking
- 20:50Speaker 1: at him, but he seems to hold up pretty well
- 20:52Speaker 1: and the speed is definitely showing. Yeah, which was the
- 20:55Speaker 1: question like all of the offseason, like have you seen
- 20:58Speaker 1: how fast he is? Yet, like even asking and Troy
- 21:00Speaker 1: Brown like they were like, what about his speed? Have
- 21:02Speaker 1: you seen that? And They're like, not really, We're just
- 21:04Speaker 1: going through drills. You can't really see that. But now
- 21:06Speaker 1: I think in the one on one drills we've actually
- 21:08Speaker 1: been able to see him turn on his burners. So
- 21:11Speaker 1: I think that, you know, for a rookie, especially per
- 21:14Speaker 1: Alex and everyone's you know, thoughts were, is he going
- 21:16Speaker 1: to be able to hold onto the ball, especially with
- 21:19Speaker 1: his size compared to some of the backs. Um, I
- 21:22Speaker 1: think that you know, we've we've seen him, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: progressed so far. I think yesterday there was a play
- 21:26Speaker 1: and I was I was on the other side of
- 21:27Speaker 1: the field, But I think he kind of had some
- 21:29Speaker 1: contact at the line with it with a defensive back
- 21:31Speaker 1: and was able to shake loose and get away from him.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I'm forgetting which defensive back it was, Um, I think
- 21:37Speaker 1: it was Butler. Butler. He had one over Mills today. Yeah,
- 21:40Speaker 1: so you know we're starting to show up and that's
- 21:42Speaker 1: a good sign. Yeah. Now, I think he's been impressive,
- 21:46Speaker 1: because you know that I'm sort of looking at this
- 21:49Speaker 1: as a red shair year for him. But I do
- 21:52Speaker 1: think and I've seen pretty much every practice. There was
- 21:55Speaker 1: a play today that you were talking about, Mike where
- 21:58Speaker 1: the throw wasn't great, the coverage was pretty good, and
- 22:02Speaker 1: I thought he's sort of set up. I think it
- 22:05Speaker 1: was John Williams, Like the ball was sort of drifting
- 22:08Speaker 1: towards the sideline and he kind of like set him
- 22:12Speaker 1: up a little bit to create some space to come back,
- 22:14Speaker 1: and he caught it over the wrong shoulder on the outside,
- 22:17Speaker 1: which I thought was a really difficult catch, and he
- 22:19Speaker 1: made it look easy. He has really good ball skills
- 22:22Speaker 1: and obviously he runs well. But I haven't really seen
- 22:25Speaker 1: anything in any team periods. I haven't seen any catches
- 22:29Speaker 1: in full eleven on eleven that I said Oh, well,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know that that's something that he can do one
- 22:34Speaker 1: on ones. Like Tamara said, he shows up every day
- 22:38Speaker 1: every day and that's just I mean, that's that's a
- 22:40Speaker 1: great sign of I think we said at the beginning,
- 22:41Speaker 1: like just stay healthy, get out there every day. Learn.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I mean, I thought one of the best throws today
- 22:47Speaker 1: was for him, not kenning to him, passes to him
- 22:49Speaker 1: was from Bailey's appey along the sideline. I think I
- 22:52Speaker 1: think it was in bounds, tough for us to tell
- 22:53Speaker 1: from from where we were sitting, but Brian Hoyer has
- 22:56Speaker 1: been out now for a bunch of days and it's
- 22:58Speaker 1: really kind of opened up the opportunities for Bailey Zappy.
- 23:01Speaker 1: He got a ton of reps today and he seems
- 23:04Speaker 1: to be you know, I mean he's a rookie. There's
- 23:05Speaker 1: certainly plays that that aren't smoothly, just like they rot
- 23:08Speaker 1: for Mac. But um, I think he showed some zip
- 23:11Speaker 1: on the ball and made some plays that went to
- 23:12Speaker 1: Thornton today where it was kind of, you know, just
- 23:14Speaker 1: an out route on the far sideline and he was
- 23:16Speaker 1: able to kind of drill it in there. What are
- 23:18Speaker 1: you guys seeing from from zapp? Yeah, I think after Saturday.
- 23:21Speaker 1: He obviously had a rough day. I think all the
- 23:23Speaker 1: offense had a rough day, but it was nice to
- 23:25Speaker 1: see him bounce back these last two days. Um, he
- 23:28Speaker 1: was getting it out quick, I thought, and it looks
- 23:30Speaker 1: like a bullet. Yeah, he's just a little short. I
- 23:33Speaker 1: think that's the thing. It's hard, especially when we're at
- 23:35Speaker 1: field level and you can kind of see after the snap.
- 23:37Speaker 1: He almost has to like jump up a little bit
- 23:40Speaker 1: to get a get an initial look. But again, a
- 23:43Speaker 1: guy who's getting tons of reps cold strange you've heard.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I mean he's he stepped in and at left guard,
- 23:49Speaker 1: and I mean that's pretty much where he's been. I
- 23:50Speaker 1: think probably the highlight of his camp though, teams well,
- 23:54Speaker 1: the punt then the punt competition at the end of
- 23:56Speaker 1: the game, at the end of the practice earlier this week,
- 23:59Speaker 1: where you know, put it on him. I mean he
- 24:01Speaker 1: caught two and the second one was tough too. I
- 24:03Speaker 1: mean he had to actually scramble, so, you know, showing
- 24:05Speaker 1: a little bit of that athleticism. I know, nobody really
- 24:07Speaker 1: cares about catching a punt at the end of practice. Um,
- 24:10Speaker 1: but overall, you know, in terms of the one on ones,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I was I was locked on on those today. I
- 24:15Speaker 1: did have him losing a rep to Godchawum, but I
- 24:17Speaker 1: had him beaten Lawrence Guy. So I mean, I think
- 24:20Speaker 1: he's he's holding in there and probably starting to, uh,
- 24:23Speaker 1: you know, to find his footing a little bit there
- 24:25Speaker 1: on the inside. Another nice thing too, was was Marcus Jones.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I think we're starting to see him returning some punts.
- 24:31Speaker 1: He's back out there. We didn't see him at all
- 24:33Speaker 1: smaller in the spring. Yeah, you're right, showing some every
- 24:36Speaker 1: day from the start. So, I mean the health of
- 24:38Speaker 1: the roster is remarkably good. Yeah. I mean they had
- 24:42Speaker 1: a handful of guys start on list and they're almost
- 24:44Speaker 1: all off the list by now. It's James White and
- 24:47Speaker 1: then two rookie offensive lineman. You know, Brian Hoyder has
- 24:49Speaker 1: missed the last several days. You know, he's not on
- 24:52Speaker 1: any kind of a list or anything. I think he
- 24:54Speaker 1: Belichick said this morning that it wouldn't be too much longer.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So I wonder if he's dealing with something, you know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: maybe like an illness. Yeah, like Jake Bailey had to
- 25:03Speaker 1: start camp football illness or non football, probably a non
- 25:06Speaker 1: football illness. I don't think it's football related flu. I
- 25:09Speaker 1: don't I'm gonna I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say it's
- 25:13Speaker 1: not Foxborough flu um. A couple of things. UM. Yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 1: I see some quotes coming up now on on the
- 25:19Speaker 1: Twitter machine from from Mac and you know, he talked about,
- 25:23Speaker 1: you know, uh, losing to the defense was quote a
- 25:27Speaker 1: shot in the heart. UM. You know, hard to strike
- 25:29Speaker 1: a balance between learning and competing. Um. And then he said,
- 25:33Speaker 1: better days ahead. We're at the start of this thing.
- 25:34Speaker 1: We're going to get it going. So he's acknowledging that
- 25:37Speaker 1: it's it's been going. It you know, it's not going.
- 25:39Speaker 1: It's not going. I mean it's been I thought they
- 25:42Speaker 1: had a good start on Thursday in shorts, and I
- 25:44Speaker 1: don't think they've had anything resembling success since. Now. I'm
- 25:48Speaker 1: with you, and I kind of find feel like Kendrick
- 25:51Speaker 1: Bourne kind of conspicuously absent from any I mean, I
- 25:54Speaker 1: think every other receiver has had some wow moments, but
- 25:58Speaker 1: I haven't really seen much out of the Born. I
- 26:00Speaker 1: think thought, like, well, when they moved to the middle
- 26:02Speaker 1: of the field, that's where he kind of works. He
- 26:04Speaker 1: got us off to a slow start last year. UM.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Concern about Born at all I mean, he's still bringing
- 26:09Speaker 1: the energy. He's a big smile. I mean, you know
- 26:11Speaker 1: he's going to keep working hard and uh and bringing
- 26:13Speaker 1: the positive energy. But have you guys seen much out
- 26:16Speaker 1: of him? I just just not really any big plays.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I haven't I've seen more out of like Nelson Agil
- 26:20Speaker 1: or Yeah, today I was. There were a couple of
- 26:23Speaker 1: times where I was like, did he just get that
- 26:25Speaker 1: one handed catch? Like I feel like that was the
- 26:28Speaker 1: most exciting play that I saw today was from him.
- 26:30Speaker 1: And um, I think that we've seen We've talked about
- 26:33Speaker 1: like guys that need to make a year two leap,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and he hasn't really shown me that yet. We've seen obviously,
- 26:40Speaker 1: John new Smith we've seen had his day the other day.
- 26:46Speaker 1: It's it's yeah, I mean, and I think Parker got
- 26:49Speaker 1: a lot of the headlines the first couple of days
- 26:51Speaker 1: with all those contested catches and you know, it's it's
- 26:55Speaker 1: I'd say he key chips in usually with one a
- 26:57Speaker 1: day maybe, but it's not overly consistent. And they all
- 26:59Speaker 1: kind of similar in that he's the guy that comes
- 27:02Speaker 1: down with the conte He had one yesterday where he
- 27:04Speaker 1: got well behind Malcolm Butler on a deep ball and
- 27:07Speaker 1: made a catch probably for the best play yesterday with
- 27:10Speaker 1: Mac Jones hitting him on a probably like a fifty
- 27:13Speaker 1: yard bomb. But other than that, almost all of his
- 27:15Speaker 1: catches have been very similar. You know, there's pretty tightly
- 27:18Speaker 1: covered and he uses his frame to create some space,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and he's good at contested catches, but he hasn't been
- 27:25Speaker 1: overly consistent getting open and finally just to get it
- 27:28Speaker 1: out of the way. Since we're going all around the roster,
- 27:30Speaker 1: we got to talk to the coaching staff offensive play calling.
- 27:33Speaker 1: M Paul, what have you seen? What do the mechanics
- 27:35Speaker 1: look like? Can you give us some say I'm going
- 27:37Speaker 1: to be honest and say I've stopped watching up walkie
- 27:41Speaker 1: talkie tracking. Well now they're even using walking talkies on defense,
- 27:44Speaker 1: so like Bill Peppers one to get mental reps. So
- 27:49Speaker 1: what I've basically seen is it's been a combination of
- 27:53Speaker 1: the three of them, Bill Belichick, matt Patricia, Joe Judge.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I think in seven on sevens it's generally been Judge
- 27:59Speaker 1: running the show while Mattie pas with the offensive lineman.
- 28:03Speaker 1: When it's been full team, it's been more Patricia on
- 28:06Speaker 1: Alwaukee talkie. But I've also seen plenty of Bill Belichick
- 28:09Speaker 1: just talking to the quarterbacks and relaying the play. Yeah,
- 28:13Speaker 1: so I think it's going to be sort of a
- 28:15Speaker 1: joint effort. The players have talked about that. You know,
- 28:18Speaker 1: it's their job to go out and execute. They're giving
- 28:20Speaker 1: them plenty of opportunity. I think Aglore talked about that
- 28:24Speaker 1: just now when we came off the field. The coaches
- 28:27Speaker 1: have given them plenty of opportunities. They know what they're doing.
- 28:29Speaker 1: It's our job to go out and execute it. So
- 28:32Speaker 1: I think at least they're they're all saying the right things.
- 28:35Speaker 1: We'll see how it unfolds went. Like I said, if
- 28:38Speaker 1: you get into the regular season and you're not moving
- 28:39Speaker 1: the ball, all of these things become questions. Right now,
- 28:42Speaker 1: they're not because it's just practice. Yeah, just talking about practice.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Still it's it's I mean, it's still you can still
- 28:49Speaker 1: feel the kind of angst from everybody, but it's But
- 28:51Speaker 1: you're right, and I think that's what we're all kind
- 28:53Speaker 1: of struggling with. So I feel like we've kind of
- 28:55Speaker 1: set the table. We've gone around anybody else. I haven't
- 28:57Speaker 1: mentioned that, you guys feel like we need to bring
- 28:59Speaker 1: up I'm trying, like I'm trying to drag everybody out there.
- 29:01Speaker 1: We're talking about Daniel Aquala, who has been good, who
- 29:05Speaker 1: has been pretty good. I think he's he's shown up
- 29:07Speaker 1: a little bit, you know, Jake Julian feeling slighted some punts.
- 29:12Speaker 1: But of course you got you know, we got plenty
- 29:13Speaker 1: of emails. As I would say, just rolling in right now,
- 29:16Speaker 1: Why don't so that that sounds like a great idea.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Now that we've set the table. Uh here, good job,
- 29:21Speaker 1: it's gonna rapid fire a little bit, a little rapid
- 29:23Speaker 1: fire lightning as they do on the real radio station.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Let's just set the table. It's one of my favorites. Uh,
- 29:32Speaker 1: Jack and Jack and Annaba. Who's taking reps? Is the
- 29:35Speaker 1: second string offensive line, you know, jumping on that one.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Po little second string acting like the whole line. Hold police,
- 29:41Speaker 1: you go left to right on that one. I will
- 29:43Speaker 1: I'll give you. I'll give you a left to right
- 29:44Speaker 1: in the radio dial. If you give me one second,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I get an Arlington Hambright in the mix, where you
- 29:48Speaker 1: will definitely get an Arlington Hambright in the mix. Um,
- 29:52Speaker 1: now I gotta find out what day that was. I
- 29:54Speaker 1: think I can probably justin ham music going right now. Yeah, okay,
- 29:59Speaker 1: so now now I'm gonna need a roster, all right,
- 30:04Speaker 1: So James Sterns seventy two is ud just okay, there's
- 30:09Speaker 1: one he is This is left or right? Then Jude
- 30:12Speaker 1: Deja l A, Cody Russy, Um Will Sherman, and Josiah Durant.
- 30:19Speaker 1: That was the second line yesterday for at least one
- 30:23Speaker 1: of the portions I've seen Arlington Hambright and we mentioned
- 30:26Speaker 1: him off the top because today he was getting some
- 30:29Speaker 1: reps with the ones um we've seen. Obviously, James Farrens
- 30:34Speaker 1: is the second center. He's played center enough with the
- 30:37Speaker 1: first group because David Andrews isn't quite um fully up
- 30:41Speaker 1: to speed. So those guys are all in the mix,
- 30:43Speaker 1: and that you know. Unfortunately, the two rookies, Chason Hines
- 30:46Speaker 1: and Andrew Steuber still are not on the practice field.
- 30:49Speaker 1: So I think it's looking like a last year for
- 30:51Speaker 1: those for those guys in terms of winning any any
- 30:54Speaker 1: sort of you know, role with the with the twos,
- 30:57Speaker 1: I think, I mean, I gotta give cut Justin Harronson
- 30:59Speaker 1: credit on that Kyle Dugger interception that ended practice a
- 31:02Speaker 1: couple days ago. He'd like chased down Dugger from the
- 31:05Speaker 1: other side of the field looked like Ben Watson, but
- 31:06Speaker 1: at least good effort from him. Neil from New Brunswick
- 31:10Speaker 1: checks in as a bossible a Christian Barmore could blow
- 31:13Speaker 1: up and become a star. If so, we'd be drawing
- 31:15Speaker 1: double teams a lot. So would it not makes sense
- 31:17Speaker 1: to try to trade for or find a veteran who
- 31:19Speaker 1: is a pure pass rusher who could come off the
- 31:21Speaker 1: opposite side of Joote on Barmore. Guys, what do you
- 31:23Speaker 1: think so far? Thumbs up? Right, Yeah, I mean I
- 31:27Speaker 1: think that's true. I mean I think that's the thing
- 31:28Speaker 1: with josh uch that that you want Ouche to be
- 31:30Speaker 1: that guy, right like that's you need a second guy
- 31:33Speaker 1: to step up. So far, it seems like OUCHA. Maybe
- 31:35Speaker 1: Jennings is a little bit in that mix, but otherwise
- 31:38Speaker 1: I haven't seen a lot out of Perkins. Cameron mcgroan,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I know was it was a darling kind of this offseason.
- 31:43Speaker 1: He's still kind of in that lower range, So I
- 31:46Speaker 1: think it's a I think it's a need to have
- 31:47Speaker 1: that complimentary piece to choot On and Barmore for sure,
- 31:50Speaker 1: But Barmore looks like he's ready to take a jump.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Here's the one. Here's a good one from Brandon. How
- 31:57Speaker 1: do you feel about possibly trading Myers for a decent
- 31:59Speaker 1: pick born with then play Myers role and you signed
- 32:01Speaker 1: Nixon the fifty three man roster, your wide receiver room
- 32:05Speaker 1: is now born Thornton, Parker, Nelson, Nixon. That's a cheaper,
- 32:07Speaker 1: more dynamic I mean we've talked about that a little
- 32:09Speaker 1: bit so far, but um, I don't know cheaper more dynamic.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I don't know about cheaper. Yes, I mean you can,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you can get rid of one of the guys that
- 32:18Speaker 1: makes a little money and it's cheaper, But I'm sure
- 32:21Speaker 1: you're getting any more dynamic. I think Jakobe Myers is
- 32:24Speaker 1: a good player. Yeah, I think everybody wants to get
- 32:27Speaker 1: rid of him because he's not going to be the
- 32:29Speaker 1: guy that's stretching the field and making big plays. But
- 32:33Speaker 1: I think I think people are overlooking the fact that
- 32:35Speaker 1: he caught eighty three passes last year and showed up
- 32:38Speaker 1: every week as the guy that Mac relied on. And
- 32:43Speaker 1: I'm not I haven't seen anything from Trey Nixon to
- 32:46Speaker 1: tell me that he can out of my mouth that
- 32:48Speaker 1: that's not someone that we've really seen a lot out
- 32:51Speaker 1: of yeat, like Tamara said, since mini camps. So it's
- 32:53Speaker 1: I don't think he's I think I think and might
- 32:57Speaker 1: have been zappy today. It might have been Mac, but
- 32:59Speaker 1: I think it was Yeah, he had one catch, Yeah
- 33:01Speaker 1: he made he made a player or two flirts with
- 33:04Speaker 1: the top line, but not not not nothing consistent. And
- 33:08Speaker 1: I mean it was the opportunity I think in minicamp,
- 33:10Speaker 1: and and he took advantage of it. But I think
- 33:12Speaker 1: right now he's kind of waiting for an opportunity. But
- 33:15Speaker 1: Christen Virginia ways and to Mary, I just want to
- 33:17Speaker 1: tell you he bought his Virginia Tech Boston College tickets
- 33:19Speaker 1: and the Virginia Tech West Virginia tickets. But he said,
- 33:23Speaker 1: speaking to Thort, it sounds like you guys are all impressed.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Should I feel safe to assume that he has more
- 33:27Speaker 1: potential and already a better player than Harry. I mean,
- 33:30Speaker 1: let's not get crazy, um, but I think he's had
- 33:33Speaker 1: a good start, you know, and just by being out
- 33:35Speaker 1: there and catching the balls that's been thrown to him,
- 33:37Speaker 1: I think his speed shows up. But I don't know,
- 33:39Speaker 1: I said the Paul kind of jokingly the beginning during
- 33:42Speaker 1: one of the live shows that like DeVante Parker showed
- 33:44Speaker 1: you in the first couple of days what you wanted
- 33:46Speaker 1: to kill Harry to be in terms of winning those
- 33:49Speaker 1: contested catches. Just he's tough to handle. Harry would win
- 33:52Speaker 1: a couple, but I still think he got beat too much.
- 33:55Speaker 1: But probably too soon to anoint tew th Guys, you think, well,
- 33:59Speaker 1: even if Tykeon is a guy that all they have
- 34:01Speaker 1: doing is just running up and down the field, drawing
- 34:04Speaker 1: the attention of a safety deep that's pretty productive. If
- 34:08Speaker 1: he yeah, absolutely, if he could get out there and
- 34:11Speaker 1: catch a ball or two like that, then his mere
- 34:15Speaker 1: presence is going to create what you think everybody else creates,
- 34:19Speaker 1: and that's that safety help over the top mic so
- 34:22Speaker 1: that there is some value in that. But you have
- 34:24Speaker 1: to do the Bethel Johnson thing. You have to at
- 34:26Speaker 1: least put it in the defense's mind that you can
- 34:28Speaker 1: make that play once or twice. And that's why I
- 34:31Speaker 1: think they're using him a lot, and you see it
- 34:34Speaker 1: almost every day at practice. He's with Matthew Slayter and
- 34:37Speaker 1: Justin Bethel and working on the gunner stuff with special teams.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Because if he's going to be the fifth receiver, you
- 34:42Speaker 1: have to find a way to get him, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 1: on the field, to justify having him be active in
- 34:48Speaker 1: the game. So if he's going to be like a
- 34:51Speaker 1: bit role as a home run hitter, like Alex said,
- 34:53Speaker 1: then he needs to do something else to, you know,
- 34:56Speaker 1: sort of justify that. Yeah, let's let's go to the phones.
- 34:58Speaker 1: We got Willie and Philly check in. What's up William?
- 35:02Speaker 1: What's going on? Mike? How you see? I feel pretty good.
- 35:04Speaker 1: It's a little hot out there, but uh, we're in
- 35:06Speaker 1: the the thick of it right now. I kind of
- 35:08Speaker 1: enjoy the camp. You know, it's like every day kind
- 35:10Speaker 1: of feels like groundhunk day. But but it's it's fun.
- 35:12Speaker 1: It's fun. Okay, how many how many questions do I
- 35:17Speaker 1: get to add? The floor is yours? My friend? Go ahead,
- 35:21Speaker 1: all right, I'll do the rest of the show. We'll
- 35:25Speaker 1: just listen. We'll hang up and listen. Okay, Um, what
- 35:31Speaker 1: was the deep tackle's name again that we just got? Yeah?
- 35:36Speaker 1: Got Youah, we could have did something else with that money. Correct.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I didn't even know we even I didn't know what
- 35:42Speaker 1: the pages even had money I get to give him? Yeah,
- 35:46Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's more out the future money
- 35:48Speaker 1: you're giving him instead of the current money. But but
- 35:50Speaker 1: you know, you're right, it's still money. It actually lowered
- 35:53Speaker 1: his cap number, right, Okay, and um Mac looked like
- 35:59Speaker 1: Mac look like he looked frustrated. I've seen that interview.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I mean he just looked very frustrated a little bit,
- 36:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I could imagine I'm trying
- 36:08Speaker 1: to learn it. I knew something new, new plays and onnot,
- 36:11Speaker 1: but he just looked as he was answering all the
- 36:13Speaker 1: questions and stuff. Then he just looked frustrated to me,
- 36:16Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And that's understandable. Yeah he does.
- 36:19Speaker 1: And I mean I mean to credit It's not as
- 36:22Speaker 1: demonstrative as it was, but I think you can definitely
- 36:24Speaker 1: feel some frustration there. Okay, And tomorrow they are training
- 36:29Speaker 1: him tomorrow, right yep, same time. Uh well, alex Or,
- 36:36Speaker 1: I don't know who's gonna be out there interviewing. Can
- 36:39Speaker 1: let me ask you this now, I've seen a video
- 36:42Speaker 1: of twin Conthor in Busy. I know he could burner.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I seen him catching the ball and he didn't burn
- 36:48Speaker 1: any of the basic corners. Was pretty safety. I just
- 36:51Speaker 1: wanted to know, couldn't he can we do one hand
- 36:54Speaker 1: catches or or you know what I mean, or any
- 36:56Speaker 1: type of a little how you say or lord rads
- 37:02Speaker 1: people anything like that. Well, he's made some difficult catches,
- 37:07Speaker 1: I would say, in one on ones throughout throughout the
- 37:10Speaker 1: five or six days we've been out there. Okay, and
- 37:14Speaker 1: my last, my last question, and this one is for ball. Well,
- 37:17Speaker 1: I know you're gonna give it to me straight, so
- 37:19Speaker 1: I'm playing for what. We're only gonna win three games.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I wouldn't count for what you see. And I know
- 37:27Speaker 1: we're still in the early process right now, but what
- 37:29Speaker 1: is what do you think so far as far as
- 37:32Speaker 1: what you have seen? Well, I mean it hasn't Yeah,
- 37:36Speaker 1: I mean I'm with Mac like I mean, it hasn't
- 37:39Speaker 1: been very good offensively, and I think part of that
- 37:42Speaker 1: is because they are sort of adjusting and adapting to
- 37:45Speaker 1: new things. But I'm not I'm just not ready to
- 37:47Speaker 1: push the panic button, you know, a weekend of practice.
- 37:50Speaker 1: I think there's been enough good signs. I think, you know,
- 37:53Speaker 1: we just talked about thought in a little bit, and
- 37:56Speaker 1: I think he's been a little better than than I
- 37:58Speaker 1: would figure he would have been at this point. Um,
- 38:00Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna write a little bit about Agalore
- 38:02Speaker 1: at some point today as well. So I don't think
- 38:05Speaker 1: it's been like a complete wash offensively, like they gotta
- 38:09Speaker 1: just rip up this playbook and go to something different.
- 38:12Speaker 1: But it's been it's been a slow transition. It hasn't
- 38:15Speaker 1: been great. I mean, I I'm not gonna sugarcoat it
- 38:17Speaker 1: and tell you, oh, you don't worry. You know, it's
- 38:20Speaker 1: been it's fresh listening. But he's not on the show today,
- 38:23Speaker 1: so I can't just say everything's gonna be fine. Do
- 38:25Speaker 1: you think that's because of the musical chairs on the
- 38:28Speaker 1: offensive line or or is it like like, I think
- 38:32Speaker 1: it's a little of everything. I mean, I I don't
- 38:34Speaker 1: think there's a root cause completely. I mean, I think
- 38:36Speaker 1: it's just a question of how much you know, do
- 38:38Speaker 1: you give this offensive transition and how different is it really?
- 38:41Speaker 1: You know? Only they know that for sure, But uh,
- 38:44Speaker 1: we'll see. Let's let's keep the calls rolling here, uh
- 38:47Speaker 1: and go to Eldred, North Carolina. What's up Eldred? Hey fella, lady,
- 38:51Speaker 1: how you how you doing today? Well? Okay, I just
- 38:55Speaker 1: gotta concern and a question, Okay, I'll read it. Interview
- 39:00Speaker 1: with Matt like, like you frustrated the defense won a
- 39:03Speaker 1: game one that day, whatever it was. But my question
- 39:06Speaker 1: is if that defense could pressure on that on this
- 39:10Speaker 1: offense you're not concerned about doing in the season, would
- 39:14Speaker 1: offensive coordinator not originally offensive coordinator? That's my chief concern. Yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 1: I'm concerned about the offense. I am. I've been pretty
- 39:25Speaker 1: consistent in talking about the lack of direction and whatnot.
- 39:28Speaker 1: And until I see that there's some sort of you know, uh,
- 39:33Speaker 1: cohesion and consistent production, I'm going to continue to be
- 39:36Speaker 1: concerned about it. Yeah, but I'm not again, I'm not
- 39:40Speaker 1: calling it an abject disaster like has been written in
- 39:44Speaker 1: Boston over the last couple of days. Yeah, so they
- 39:48Speaker 1: worried too, the hump all Oh no, I mean Mac
- 39:51Speaker 1: is worried. I mean, I don't think it's telling secrets here.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I mean Matt is expressing frustration, like it's not fun
- 39:59Speaker 1: to be the quarterback can not be able to move
- 40:01Speaker 1: the ball consistently. I mean, especially when you know this
- 40:03Speaker 1: has been one of the biggest questions surrounding the offense.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Is this the right way to go forward with? You
- 40:08Speaker 1: know what they're doing, and you certainly want to allow
- 40:10Speaker 1: them some leeway to change things and to maybe look
- 40:12Speaker 1: a little clunky out of the gate, but at some
- 40:14Speaker 1: point it has to get better. And I think if
- 40:16Speaker 1: you know, someone like Josh McDaniels were here an offense
- 40:19Speaker 1: recording that you had for a while, you'd feel like
- 40:22Speaker 1: they'll get it. They know what they're doing. They've put
- 40:24Speaker 1: this offense in before exactly, you know. And so I
- 40:26Speaker 1: I hear Eldred and I mean, you know, I you
- 40:29Speaker 1: know the show. I mean, I've been talking. I'm more
- 40:31Speaker 1: confident about the defense I think the offense is. I mean,
- 40:34Speaker 1: I'm not ready to blow the trumpet for the defense
- 40:36Speaker 1: right now because all things consider what it is in practice.
- 40:40Speaker 1: But you know, my my concern level for the offense
- 40:43Speaker 1: has definitely risen over the last few days. It's just
- 40:45Speaker 1: it's just look clunky and not consistent and not you
- 40:48Speaker 1: know where even where they left off last year. So
- 40:50Speaker 1: we'll see if they if they continue and start to
- 40:52Speaker 1: click in a year. But it's it hasn't been good
- 40:55Speaker 1: here through the last few days. Although I will say
- 40:57Speaker 1: today it felt like there were, you know, some glimmers
- 40:59Speaker 1: here and there, maybe a little bit more than yesterday.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Maybe I'm grabbing at straws there. But that's my thoughts.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Did you say today, Yeah, yeah, I thought today was
- 41:06Speaker 1: better than yesterday. Look a little bit better he does,
- 41:13Speaker 1: he does. I think you'll be happy. I think you'll
- 41:14Speaker 1: be happy with him, you know, if he can. Thanks Eldred,
- 41:18Speaker 1: Thanks Biggy. Yeah. I do think people will be be
- 41:20Speaker 1: excited about about Thorton. I mean, but one of my
- 41:22Speaker 1: big thoughts with Thornton now is just, you know, get
- 41:25Speaker 1: them involved more, like we said the same thing like
- 41:27Speaker 1: Red Shirt Bethel Johnson, a couple of shot plays, like
- 41:31Speaker 1: get him going, like I mean, you've only got a
- 41:32Speaker 1: certain amount of time of this guy that the sooner
- 41:34Speaker 1: you can get him up to say that might be
- 41:36Speaker 1: part of your offense, and make that speed part of
- 41:37Speaker 1: your offense the better. Who was the emailer earlier that
- 41:40Speaker 1: suggested sort of peddling Myers and you know that would
- 41:44Speaker 1: be a way to get more explosive if you wanted
- 41:48Speaker 1: to replace Myers with Thornton. That's a totally different kind
- 41:51Speaker 1: of receiver. I just you know Nixon's not going to
- 41:53Speaker 1: give you that. Um but but Myers, I mean, if
- 41:56Speaker 1: Thornton could, if if he pans out and he is
- 42:00Speaker 1: as advertised, as a second round pick, and he becomes
- 42:03Speaker 1: the next in this line of receivers in the last
- 42:05Speaker 1: three four years that have come right into the league
- 42:07Speaker 1: and immediately produced. You know, you could get You could
- 42:11Speaker 1: make an argument that forty or fifty catches from someone
- 42:14Speaker 1: like that could be more valuable than eighty catches from
- 42:16Speaker 1: someone like Myers. Yeah. I think everyone's issue with like
- 42:19Speaker 1: Myers is when you look at his stats, you don't
- 42:22Speaker 1: see a ton of touchdowns. He has a lot of receptions,
- 42:25Speaker 1: but not a lot of touchdowns, And so maybe they're
- 42:27Speaker 1: looking like, Okay, maybe we can trade him away and
- 42:30Speaker 1: get someone who can actually help us to the board.
- 42:34Speaker 1: But at the same time, though, I feel like there's
- 42:36Speaker 1: kind of a void of simple quick plays to the
- 42:41Speaker 1: slot receiver. Really. I mean, you've seen a lot of
- 42:43Speaker 1: checkdowns and some really good depasses too, but you know
- 42:47Speaker 1: that's that. I think that's maybe my biggest question right
- 42:49Speaker 1: now with the offense is like, you know, where's Born
- 42:50Speaker 1: and Myers, Like, how are they going to fit in
- 42:52Speaker 1: and are they going to start to you know, contribute
- 42:55Speaker 1: once things get real and it's real football, YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 42:58Speaker 1: is that going to open them up? I don't. I
- 43:00Speaker 1: just I think that that's a part of the of
- 43:02Speaker 1: it all that that isn't quite settling right for me.
- 43:04Speaker 1: But you know, people are definitely on him. Michael Aguilar
- 43:06Speaker 1: are writing in the same thing. You know, could Thornton
- 43:09Speaker 1: could you envision him being a big factor? I don't
- 43:11Speaker 1: know if I'm ready to say a big factor, but
- 43:13Speaker 1: I just think his physical talent jumps off the field
- 43:15Speaker 1: more so than you know, most of the guys that
- 43:17Speaker 1: are on the field right now. And at some point
- 43:19Speaker 1: you got to get that involved. And the longer you
- 43:21Speaker 1: wait is it, you know, are you wasting time with him,
- 43:25Speaker 1: wasting him under contract for four years? You know? Like see,
- 43:28Speaker 1: that's my feeling on rookies in general, though. I don't
- 43:31Speaker 1: feel like if you think the salary structure is important
- 43:36Speaker 1: and you're concerned about the cap and your roster structure
- 43:41Speaker 1: in terms of the salaries that I don't think you
- 43:44Speaker 1: can afford. You just blanketly let rookies slowly acclimate themselves
- 43:49Speaker 1: and work their way. And that's what I thought. The
- 43:51Speaker 1: best thing they came out of last year was you
- 43:54Speaker 1: had three rookies that played major roles in mac Jones,
- 43:58Speaker 1: Christian Barmore and Ramadreson like, so, now you don't you
- 44:02Speaker 1: didn't only get three years out of You're gonna get
- 44:04Speaker 1: a full four and in max case, you have a
- 44:06Speaker 1: chance to get a fifth as the first round pick.
- 44:09Speaker 1: I don't like the idea of quote unquote redshirting a
- 44:12Speaker 1: guy unless he can't play. So if the guy shows
- 44:15Speaker 1: a monicum of ability, I like to get him out
- 44:18Speaker 1: there and then figure out, you know how I can
- 44:21Speaker 1: maximize his ability on his rookie contract, if that's important
- 44:26Speaker 1: to you. I don't care about the roster structure salary wise.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I just want good players. So if Ronnie Perkins can't play,
- 44:33Speaker 1: I don't need to get him out there because the
- 44:36Speaker 1: you know, the four you know, if or mondre Stevenson
- 44:38Speaker 1: was a flash in the pan, I don't need to
- 44:39Speaker 1: get four years, you know what I mean. I don't
- 44:41Speaker 1: need the cost effective is I need good players. Yeah,
- 44:43Speaker 1: And that's why I like, uh, you know, the idea
- 44:46Speaker 1: of letting Thornton figure it out. Yeah, I mean that's
- 44:51Speaker 1: I think it'd be easier if Agilore and Parker hadn't
- 44:53Speaker 1: really done anything yet, because those are kind of the
- 44:55Speaker 1: outside guys at the top and it's hard after that
- 44:57Speaker 1: practice to say, well, just get rid of Aglare and
- 44:59Speaker 1: put him you know, Agler has been pretty good, so
- 45:02Speaker 1: it's some tough choices. I mean, I think some of
- 45:03Speaker 1: the depth will will get played out as it always does,
- 45:06Speaker 1: and injuries and some of the further competition. But some
- 45:09Speaker 1: woman in the Bay Area writing in and my apologize
- 45:11Speaker 1: it's been quite some time since he's written in, but
- 45:14Speaker 1: asking about Mac Fridays on Saturday and Friday's training camp show,
- 45:17Speaker 1: it seemed he was unimpressive at times and not putting
- 45:19Speaker 1: the ball where it needs to be. From what you've observed,
- 45:23Speaker 1: What did you seem from him that could be correctable
- 45:25Speaker 1: in a short period of time, and what do you
- 45:28Speaker 1: have a lot more of a long term concern with
- 45:31Speaker 1: It's hard to discern, but I just feel like, and
- 45:36Speaker 1: I know Mike Giardi was at practice and wrote a
- 45:38Speaker 1: lot about, you know, feeling that the receivers just weren't
- 45:40Speaker 1: able to get open. And granted they were in the
- 45:42Speaker 1: red zone, so that's challenging for guys to shake loose
- 45:45Speaker 1: down there, but yeah, I just felt like they're not
- 45:47Speaker 1: in sync right now, Like there was like some timing
- 45:50Speaker 1: things that you know, sometimes it's the protection. Sometimes it's
- 45:54Speaker 1: you know, Mac wants to go somewhere and he's got
- 45:56Speaker 1: to tuck it. It's just it's not like he's missing
- 45:58Speaker 1: guys or guys are open, or oh this should be it.
- 46:00Speaker 1: It just kind of feels jumbled, And again, I would
- 46:03Speaker 1: connect it. If this is, you know, one of these,
- 46:06Speaker 1: we're gonna just basically want run inside zone and wide zone.
- 46:09Speaker 1: You know, that needs to be operational and a weapon
- 46:13Speaker 1: to open up everything else. With the play action, we're
- 46:15Speaker 1: starting to see some of those off of the you know,
- 46:17Speaker 1: you fake like everybody's running right and then he's going
- 46:19Speaker 1: to roll back to the other side and try to
- 46:21Speaker 1: hit the deep playum. You know. So I think it's
- 46:24Speaker 1: all kind of connected, and until they get the running
- 46:26Speaker 1: game kind of going, it's it's hard to hard to read.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard to put it on him and
- 46:30Speaker 1: say he's not hitting guys that are open. I don't know.
- 46:33Speaker 1: I wish we had video with it because then you
- 46:35Speaker 1: could see really who's getting separation and who wasn't. But
- 46:38Speaker 1: I don't know, what did you guys think of Mac overall?
- 46:40Speaker 1: Just you know, what, what are the issues there? Do
- 46:43Speaker 1: you think? I mean, it's all speculation right at this point. Yeah,
- 46:46Speaker 1: I think, I think it's a little bit of everything.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I think it's a mixture of the musical chairs on
- 46:51Speaker 1: the offensive line obviously the new air quote new offense,
- 46:57Speaker 1: because like for the most part, the players are the same.
- 47:00Speaker 1: You have some musical chairs on the office offensive line,
- 47:02Speaker 1: but you have the same wide receivers for the most part, obviously,
- 47:05Speaker 1: besides the Devonte Parker. Also, we haven't talked about Time
- 47:07Speaker 1: Montgomery um at all, um, but he had a few
- 47:11Speaker 1: catches today because I remember talking talking to brot him
- 47:14Speaker 1: up before you popped on a you know, just one
- 47:16Speaker 1: of those guys. It just seems involved and does a
- 47:17Speaker 1: lot of things. Yeah, I like that. I like the
- 47:21Speaker 1: versatility out of him a lot. I think that the
- 47:23Speaker 1: struggles and the offense. I think it's just a lot
- 47:25Speaker 1: of combination of things between the musical chairs and the
- 47:28Speaker 1: offensive line, Like it all starts up front and then
- 47:31Speaker 1: um the new offense. I think, and I'm hoping that
- 47:34Speaker 1: irons itself out by next week, but it's hard to
- 47:38Speaker 1: put a timetable on it. Yeah, and I'd say too,
- 47:40Speaker 1: I mean, I think, I mean, I think the offensive
- 47:41Speaker 1: line is has been pretty good in drills. Like I
- 47:44Speaker 1: liked what I saw at Trent Brown today. I mean
- 47:46Speaker 1: the second he gets his hands on somebody just throws
- 47:47Speaker 1: them to the ground. Um, you know, I don't know.
- 47:50Speaker 1: I mean maybe there's something there with a when you again, Paul,
- 47:52Speaker 1: like with the handbright stuff, is that trying to find
- 47:54Speaker 1: depth or are they you know, not not quite as
- 47:57Speaker 1: high as as on when you Well, I think that's true,
- 48:00Speaker 1: There's no question about that. Otherwise he would have started
- 48:02Speaker 1: last year. He lost his starting job. But I do
- 48:05Speaker 1: think that the handbright thing is trying to find some depth.
- 48:07Speaker 1: They're trying to figure out who are our seven guys
- 48:10Speaker 1: eight guys that are going to be active on game day.
- 48:13Speaker 1: So question if it if this switching them doesn't work out,
- 48:17Speaker 1: do you switch them back or you just ride it out?
- 48:20Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's a good question. If it doesn't
- 48:22Speaker 1: work the way they think, I mean, it's put them back,
- 48:24Speaker 1: put them back where they're like when you switch them back,
- 48:30Speaker 1: or just ride it out and hope that as they
- 48:33Speaker 1: get more reps it just gets better. It's I mean,
- 48:35Speaker 1: it's a good question. I think they feel like Brown
- 48:37Speaker 1: is better at left tackle them win. So I don't
- 48:39Speaker 1: think that's changing. Yeah, I mean, I don't. I don't
- 48:42Speaker 1: have any knowledge of that. I just I'm I'm doing
- 48:45Speaker 1: the Fred curtishism there, you know, Paul and Fred. One
- 48:48Speaker 1: of our tenants is always just watch what Bill does.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Don't listen to anybody saying anything. Just watch what Bill does.
- 48:54Speaker 1: From the first day we got to see the twenty
- 48:55Speaker 1: twenty two team, Trent Brown has been on the left side,
- 48:58Speaker 1: Issaiah Win's been on the right side. Anytime that both
- 49:00Speaker 1: of those guys have been out on the field, that's
- 49:03Speaker 1: where they've been. Yeah, And I don't and I don't
- 49:05Speaker 1: think that's gonna Do you think Win has gotten some
- 49:07Speaker 1: left tackle reps if I remember seeing correctly. I haven't
- 49:10Speaker 1: seen it, so I can't confirm. I think I saw
- 49:11Speaker 1: somebody tweet that out, but it's a good question. I mean,
- 49:14Speaker 1: I just think when they made the switch so soon
- 49:17Speaker 1: in the spring, that seems to think that was when
- 49:19Speaker 1: Trent Brown went and took a lap. Yeah, I mean,
- 49:21Speaker 1: I'm dead serious. I think that was. That's possible, and
- 49:24Speaker 1: that was probably a five place span by Brown came back.
- 49:29Speaker 1: It was let's let's go back to the phones are
- 49:31Speaker 1: real quick. We got Matt and Ohio. Check it in. Matt,
- 49:34Speaker 1: you're on Patriots Unfiltered. Here you guys, how you doing good?
- 49:39Speaker 1: They so, yeah, I got the same concerned you guys
- 49:42Speaker 1: do about the offensive defense, but I don't want to
- 49:44Speaker 1: change up the subject on it. But what would you
- 49:46Speaker 1: guys think about the recent uh thoughts? Transaction? Was that? Basically, yeah,
- 49:53Speaker 1: we got this isn't an offseason show. We got the training.
- 49:56Speaker 1: We got training can to talk about. I think the
- 49:58Speaker 1: socks are done, but I would I would definitely look
- 50:01Speaker 1: to get some pieces if they could. I don't know
- 50:04Speaker 1: enough about the minor leagues. It sounds like the Vasquez
- 50:07Speaker 1: deal was a good one for the Red Sox, but
- 50:09Speaker 1: I don't know enough about the minor leagues to intelligently
- 50:11Speaker 1: talk about that. Oh yeah, we're on what's that? We're
- 50:14Speaker 1: on that for a nothing burger answer, We're onto football. Um.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Adam checking in from somewhere. I'm not sure where exactly,
- 50:22Speaker 1: but curious to see how Stidham looks Thursday night at
- 50:25Speaker 1: Tomorrow night, I guess that's gonna be our two nights
- 50:27Speaker 1: is to kick off the Hall of Fame game. So
- 50:29Speaker 1: no nobody here, no, because I saw a tweet that
- 50:32Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence and ETN aren't playing, and so I would
- 50:35Speaker 1: imagine that, you know, the Raiders do the same, and
- 50:39Speaker 1: just I mean yeah, I just yeah. I wouldn't imagine
- 50:43Speaker 1: that we're gonna see to kill Harry. I think there'd
- 50:45Speaker 1: be a lot of a lot of people hyped up
- 50:47Speaker 1: for McKiel. Have we heard anything on a Bears camp
- 50:51Speaker 1: from him? I haven't we heard one low light one
- 50:54Speaker 1: low light perform. Yeah. Yeah, the fans were enjoying. But uh,
- 51:00Speaker 1: question here from Johnson in Nova Scotia. Um, compared to
- 51:04Speaker 1: last year's camp, how's the play calling changed? Is the
- 51:06Speaker 1: offense throwing the ball more? If so, are you surprised
- 51:09Speaker 1: we only have Mac and Zapp getting all the reps
- 51:11Speaker 1: instead of another qb um. I just think it's the
- 51:14Speaker 1: change in the run game. There's not there's not a
- 51:16Speaker 1: lot of pulling guards. It's it's a lot of the simple.
- 51:19Speaker 1: I think that's been the change. But I don't think
- 51:22Speaker 1: they're throwing it anymore or less. I mean, they start
- 51:24Speaker 1: off obviously ensure it, so it's all almost all throwing.
- 51:27Speaker 1: It seems pretty balanced. And I mean I don't want
- 51:29Speaker 1: to I really don't want to say this, but I
- 51:31Speaker 1: kind of feel it. I just I kind of felt
- 51:33Speaker 1: like Mac looked more comfortable last year out of the gate.
- 51:36Speaker 1: I don't know if if that's you know, which is
- 51:37Speaker 1: fun because this is a system that was more geared
- 51:40Speaker 1: to what he did, right, he was more with the RPO.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Is the stuff that we talked about as like, I mean,
- 51:46Speaker 1: we're going back to March, our off season shows in
- 51:50Speaker 1: March with you know, some of the stuff that quote
- 51:52Speaker 1: unquote he taught Billy O'Brien at Alabama. You remember that whole. Yeah,
- 51:56Speaker 1: I mean this this goes back a long way, you know,
- 51:59Speaker 1: And I don't know if we've necessarily seen I wonder
- 52:02Speaker 1: if maybe he's fine with it, but the receivers haven't
- 52:05Speaker 1: been as quick to adapt and maybe not getting open
- 52:09Speaker 1: as much. The one thing that I see about the
- 52:11Speaker 1: offense all the time is it definitely appears to me
- 52:13Speaker 1: that Mac is forced to pull the ball down way
- 52:16Speaker 1: more often than he did last year. He's he's looking
- 52:19Speaker 1: to make a play with his legs and you know,
- 52:21Speaker 1: extend plays improvised way too many throws across his body.
- 52:26Speaker 1: It just hasn't it's looked clunky. Yeah, that hasn't a
- 52:29Speaker 1: clunky I mean the way you said it too, it
- 52:30Speaker 1: just reminded me of what I felt like a Stidham
- 52:32Speaker 1: his rookie year or what we saw or was just like, ah,
- 52:34Speaker 1: he's just he doesn't quite he isn't quite there yet.
- 52:36Speaker 1: It's just not you know, he's not seeing it. And
- 52:39Speaker 1: that's why you're in that weird region of like, well,
- 52:41Speaker 1: is this you know, new new offense, there's new progressions
- 52:44Speaker 1: for him to go through. We don't. We don't really know,
- 52:45Speaker 1: but um, each day you hope it gets a little better,
- 52:48Speaker 1: and I think it was a little bit better today,
- 52:50Speaker 1: but there's a long way to go before they take
- 52:52Speaker 1: the field next week against the Giants. Uh Andrew from Annandale,
- 52:55Speaker 1: Virginia writes in now, what's the latest on Pierre Strong
- 52:58Speaker 1: and what sort of role could he play? Still limited? Right, Yeah,
- 53:00Speaker 1: I mean we don't really even see him up and
- 53:02Speaker 1: then it seems like he kind of disappears. We haven't
- 53:04Speaker 1: really seen him take any reps. Kevin Harris has been
- 53:07Speaker 1: I think getting more of those reps because of that,
- 53:10Speaker 1: but it's still tough to see right now, especially like
- 53:13Speaker 1: we said, like the defensive line is stuffing them, so
- 53:16Speaker 1: it's there's not an opportunity for us to really see
- 53:20Speaker 1: those guys, you know, yeah, be super productive. Well, I
- 53:24Speaker 1: thought Harris caught the ball pretty well today. I mean
- 53:26Speaker 1: I think that was a little bit of an underrated
- 53:27Speaker 1: part of his game. Um, you know, he's getting the
- 53:30Speaker 1: bottom reps down there with JJ Taylor as well. But again,
- 53:34Speaker 1: a big, big, bruising back. It's hard to really get
- 53:36Speaker 1: a sense of what he is just yet. Stead Rights
- 53:40Speaker 1: and you guys have been talking about Thornton a good
- 53:42Speaker 1: bit during camp. Seemed to really be tempering your expectations.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I know we have a poor history of drafting skill
- 53:46Speaker 1: positions high, but I don't think it's reasonable unreasonable to
- 53:49Speaker 1: expect him to have an immediate impact wide out. Drafted
- 53:53Speaker 1: that highly on any other team would be hell to do,
- 53:55Speaker 1: higher standard than I think Thornton is with us. That's
- 53:57Speaker 1: probably true. Super excited from Mac this year, I think great.
- 54:00Speaker 1: I think Bourne will be our a thousand yard guy,
- 54:01Speaker 1: followed by Parker and JOHNU. I think John, who needs
- 54:04Speaker 1: over fifty catches seven or fifty yards to make me
- 54:06Speaker 1: happy with his contract, thought, uh, well, I think John
- 54:10Speaker 1: has looked pretty good. A thousand yards for Hendrick Bourne. Yeah,
- 54:16Speaker 1: that one, that one right now. It's it's it's hard
- 54:18Speaker 1: to see with how how camp has kind of started again.
- 54:20Speaker 1: I think he started last year kind of slow, so
- 54:23Speaker 1: so you know, I could see a thousand Dante maybe
- 54:25Speaker 1: here at this point, but a lot of a lot
- 54:27Speaker 1: of contested catches. But I think John has had a good,
- 54:29Speaker 1: good camp. I mean, I think he consistently shows up
- 54:31Speaker 1: and I think the good thing with all these guys
- 54:33Speaker 1: is that they're not really getting injured. You're not seeing
- 54:35Speaker 1: like guys in and out. I mean, Dietrich wise has
- 54:37Speaker 1: been has been limited. He missed a couple of days.
- 54:39Speaker 1: He's been back out there, um you know, kind of
- 54:41Speaker 1: mid practice. He comes up it seems like um from
- 54:43Speaker 1: the fields. But you know, I think that's what that's
- 54:46Speaker 1: what we're hitting a lot with Taekwon Thornton. I mean
- 54:48Speaker 1: it's just what is his ceiling and how quickly can
- 54:50Speaker 1: they get him to play a sizeable role. And I
- 54:53Speaker 1: think he's you know, shown some good things. That Harry
- 54:55Speaker 1: got sidelined with injuries right out of camp, and you know,
- 54:58Speaker 1: you just get behind the eight ball and never you
- 55:00Speaker 1: never can quite get caught up. I also wonder too,
- 55:03Speaker 1: if like for a rookie, you're not swimming in last
- 55:06Speaker 1: year's offense to come in and if this is a
- 55:08Speaker 1: simpler offense that he doesn't he's just kind of starting
- 55:11Speaker 1: from the ground level instead of having to unlearned certain
- 55:14Speaker 1: things and maybe incorporate other new things that I don't
- 55:17Speaker 1: know that that makes sense. Maybe I think that one
- 55:19Speaker 1: there's not a big star, like there's a bunch of
- 55:25Speaker 1: pieces in the wide receiver room, but there isn't like
- 55:27Speaker 1: a big gap at all, and so I think that
- 55:31Speaker 1: it gives him the ability to come in and and
- 55:33Speaker 1: and be productive, I guess without being like super intimidated.
- 55:36Speaker 1: I guess like he has a lot of great guys
- 55:37Speaker 1: to learn from, but there's not one that like one
- 55:39Speaker 1: or two guys that are just like yeah, yeah, there's
- 55:43Speaker 1: like not that it guy, and they seem like a
- 55:44Speaker 1: good group. They seem like there's something yeah, but right now.
- 55:48Speaker 1: And I think that's why he pops like his speed,
- 55:50Speaker 1: and you know, just he just has those light feet
- 55:52Speaker 1: and you know, I just I don't want to, I
- 55:54Speaker 1: don't want to make the comparison to Randy Moss, but
- 55:56Speaker 1: there's just the body type reminds me of the long
- 55:59Speaker 1: lead kind of guy that seems to kind of build
- 56:02Speaker 1: up speed but also has, you know, some long strides
- 56:04Speaker 1: that I think are deceptive to guys, you know on
- 56:06Speaker 1: the shorter rights when he's breaking stuff off to the
- 56:08Speaker 1: middle as well. James Morris writing into early on the
- 56:11Speaker 1: spring train, Nixon was getting all kinds of praise, no
- 56:13Speaker 1: talk about him so far. How does he look? I
- 56:16Speaker 1: just tread water right now, right treading water. He kind
- 56:19Speaker 1: of going home, staying up at night. I feel like
- 56:21Speaker 1: I lost in the shuffle, like lost in the shuffle.
- 56:25Speaker 1: I think I just think he's been really quiet since
- 56:27Speaker 1: training camp started. So like that's why, like I cautioned,
- 56:31Speaker 1: sometimes days and plays are designed like there was. I
- 56:35Speaker 1: think Tomarow used the phrase about a half hour ago
- 56:38Speaker 1: about like we had a Jacobe Meyer's day, like all
- 56:41Speaker 1: of a sudden, he caught like five or six passes,
- 56:43Speaker 1: you know, and clearly things would design to get that
- 56:46Speaker 1: position involved. And there's been days early on the first
- 56:49Speaker 1: day was DeVante Parker, and back in mini camp there
- 56:54Speaker 1: was probably a period that was designed to get Trey
- 56:57Speaker 1: Nixon up to speed and involved in some of those connections,
- 57:01Speaker 1: and they only haven't been any of those since since
- 57:03Speaker 1: training camp started, so he's been quiet and I think
- 57:06Speaker 1: it for Mini Camp TRAINIX and also had that that
- 57:09Speaker 1: ability to you know, get more reps because Kendrick Bourne
- 57:13Speaker 1: was out too, so then that was that was another
- 57:16Speaker 1: piece of it. Or he wasn't there so then he
- 57:18Speaker 1: had the chance to take some reps with Matt And
- 57:20Speaker 1: that's and that's why I say trading water like waiting
- 57:22Speaker 1: for his opportunity, waiting for that chance to be able
- 57:24Speaker 1: to jump in. Oh, it looks like Hardy's still got
- 57:27Speaker 1: on our Microsoft surface there on the sports side upstairs.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Maybe never got that back off Fred. We should go
- 57:34Speaker 1: out there and that harassment bit Todd and Greenville writes
- 57:37Speaker 1: in I know that you cannot comment on specifics, but
- 57:40Speaker 1: have you seen anyone in the backfield that would normally
- 57:43Speaker 1: not be there? Just a lot of the defenders. I think, yeah,
- 57:47Speaker 1: Davin garda Christian Lawrence guy. That was my bad joke
- 57:52Speaker 1: of the day. Have you seen any jumbo packages with
- 57:54Speaker 1: a guard coming in? Is that? And now, I mean
- 57:56Speaker 1: it's been pretty pretty pretty straightforward running game. There's not
- 57:59Speaker 1: there's in a fullback being involved in this offense. There's
- 58:01Speaker 1: nobody really playing fullback. Um, no, I agree, hasn't been
- 58:05Speaker 1: any of that there, and you know they're not no
- 58:07Speaker 1: real Shenanigans even like of course we wouldn't even tell
- 58:09Speaker 1: you anyway, but you know it's not. But I can
- 58:12Speaker 1: tell you that we haven't. Yeah, you know. And uh,
- 58:17Speaker 1: let's see what else we got here on please, uh yeah,
- 58:20Speaker 1: give us a ring as the phone. The phone lines
- 58:22Speaker 1: have opened up here a little bit, so five five pats,
- 58:24Speaker 1: five hundred, send us an email, ask us about I mean,
- 58:28Speaker 1: I feel like we're touching on on everybody and also too,
- 58:31Speaker 1: probably a good point to talk they you know, some
- 58:33Speaker 1: bottom of the roster signings today. Brad Hawkins, safety from
- 58:37Speaker 1: Michigan be Hawk was here. Be Hawk actually had a
- 58:41Speaker 1: loud hit, elicited a lot of reaction from his defensive
- 58:44Speaker 1: teammates first day day, making an impact and uh you
- 58:48Speaker 1: know that's what his close friends call him, be Hawk
- 58:50Speaker 1: as well as another because you can never have too
- 58:52Speaker 1: many safeties. Another safety, I'll let you do the honors
- 58:55Speaker 1: to Mary. Number thirty six was out there today. Jalen
- 58:57Speaker 1: Elliott Notre dame. So what's what's his deal, dude or
- 59:00Speaker 1: anythingbout him? You're any scouting report for US here scouting Report.
- 59:02Speaker 1: I was a little shocked because, again another safety, I thought,
- 59:06Speaker 1: I don't think it was that good. I'm just shocked
- 59:10Speaker 1: that I didn't really see that as a need right now.
- 59:13Speaker 1: Not to say that he's not a good player. He's
- 59:14Speaker 1: a great player, but I think I was a little shocked.
- 59:17Speaker 1: We're not bringing in a lot another linebacker maybe, Like
- 59:21Speaker 1: I mean, you already got just like seven safeties that yeah,
- 59:25Speaker 1: Like all the signings we've made have been like receivers. Yeah.
- 59:28Speaker 1: And so the two like two of the deepest areas. Yeah,
- 59:30Speaker 1: So I'm a little bit confused. I was. I was
- 59:33Speaker 1: a little bull shocked about that. I was looking for
- 59:34Speaker 1: maybe like a linebacker. Was he there? Was he there
- 59:36Speaker 1: during your time? Yeah? He was? He was um yeah
- 59:40Speaker 1: with the Lions before this. Um. And so I'm I'm
- 59:44Speaker 1: not too sure how this is going to shake out,
- 59:46Speaker 1: considering all the safeties that we already had a lot
- 59:49Speaker 1: of guys above him. And I mean I will say
- 59:50Speaker 1: to uh, you know, guy, we haven't mentioned everybody's on
- 59:52Speaker 1: undrafted rookie free agent watch. I mean Brendan school or
- 59:55Speaker 1: seems like he's in like the Matthew school. Matthew Slater
- 59:58Speaker 1: School of Special teams, like private tutoring sessions, and uh,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: you know, looked like he was getting some things right today.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I was just watching some of the drills that he
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: was doing on you know, blocking on punt return and
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: you know, just getting some some good encouragement from from
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Cam a Cord on the job he was doing in
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: terms of getting in position and blocking. So you can
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: never rule out, of course, the special team studs that
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: come in here and play significant roles. Um did you
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: what about Um? We're still talking again per Alex's comment
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: about us being super deep on wide receiver in safety
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Lord Jordan Humphrey, Jordan, we haven't talked a lot, not
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: a lot. Well, did he make a play today, Paul?
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I think he made a pass today. He did catch
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: a pass, and not in like eleven on eleven. I
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: don't mean like to be dismissive like all you caught
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: up at no in eleven on eleven, real game. I
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: mean he put him with with Christian Wilkerson, guys that
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: you know pop up maybe with cash here or there,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: with the second team with with Bailey Zappy. Uh. The
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: other edition they had made was was Josh Hammond, another
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: practice squad guy who's been around a little bit. Um.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: One more guy wanted to to mention, Oh, just in
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: on Hawkins, you know, coming out of Michigan. Another like
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: safety strong safety box safety. Patrick Chung was here earlier.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Asked Bill Belichick today about just this group, and you
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: know how much that position has evolved, because it certainly
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: seems like it's a strength of the team if they're
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: able to put them all in the field. But I
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: the question is, how do you get all those guys involved?
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: I mean Jabrol Peppers is they're all kind of unique.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: They all kind of have unique traits and stuff, and
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: you know, just running through I mean, Adrian Phillip's been
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: super involved, mccordy on the back ends doing some coverage
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: as well. I mean, I think Dugger's been a little
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: bit of a buzz guy who's who's had a big
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: interception to end, I think it was Saturday's practice, but
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: has gotten picked on a little bit in coverage with
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: some of the tight ends as well. I think you
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: know John who had had him on a couple. I
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: think he's a guy to watch. I mean, I know
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: a lot of people are kind of hyped for him
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: to maybe take that next step as a safety. But
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: as we've talked about, how do you take the next
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: step when that's such a big group and you're all
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: going to play? You know, yeah? Do you so? I
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: was just thinking about this earlier. Do you see you
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: know someone that's gonna fill the void of jac Jackson
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: yet or not yet? Still early? I mean, oh, yeah,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: to fill the void of Jay. No, they don't have
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: anybody that can do that. There. That's a that's a concern.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: And I mean the secondary. It's funny because the secondary
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: is locked up these receivers for the most part. But
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I think that's more about the offense is transition than
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: it is the defense showing up something about the defense.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: I think the front, the defensive front has been pretty strong,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: but the secondary, to me, like Jalen Mills is you know,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: a scrappy guy that we saw last year, but I
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: don't think he's jac Jackson caliber Jac Jackson or you know,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Steph Gilmore, He's not. He's not that kind of player. Yeah. Well,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: the final member of the the squad today has joined.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Evan Lazar is now checking in after me, and I
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: can check out and write, well, I haven't we've been,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I mean, we've been going around the horn right now,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: and I just want to give you a chance to
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: way in on just some general general thoughts about what
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: you've taken from from Patriots Tenny camp here in the
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: first six days. Well, I was listening a little to
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: a little bit of the first hour, and I thought
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: that Paul nailed it when he said it's another one.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: There's another one that's going to go far in this business,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: thank you. We're two padded practices in, right, and you're
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: installing a new system, which, whether they want to admit
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: it or not, is very different transition from what they're
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: doing before. And there's a rush to judgment that all
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: of us have to deal with, right where you got
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: to hold back a little bit and not get too
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: far ahead of yourself. Here. The Patriots and Bill Belichick
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: would love to hear me say this. They don't play
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: a regular season game for over a month, right, So right,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: So to get all cont just trying to get the
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: quarterbacks to get all caught up in the fact that
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: in the second padded practice, the running game looks shaky.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: To put it politely, it is a little bit premature.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: It is now the one thing that I'll say about
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: the offense that worries me is today in particular, and
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: we talked to him after practice, and you know, Mac,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: he's a statesman, He's going to say all the right
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: things at the podium, but he looks like somebody that
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: is not quite understanding what they're doing completely all the time.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: And he's the most important guy in the room. So
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: if he doesn't understand it, or he doesn't feel comfortable
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: running it, then they probably shouldn't be running it. And
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I think that that's where they have to figure things
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: out over the next couple of weeks, is is this
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: actually what's best for the personnel that we have. Because
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: I've been clamoring for watching practice, let's get into the
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: two minute, Let's get some pace to this thing. Let's
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: put Mac in the shotgun and let's spread the field.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: And if he doesn't look good, then then it's time
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: to be a little bit worried. But because he's not
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: running bootleg actions very well, I can't really get all
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: hot and bothered about that yet. Two practices in, Yeah,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: and I agree with the stuff. I'm not going to
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: get into the exits and oos because that's for brighter
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: football minds than me. But what I will say is
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: they'll figure out the stuff that's working better and they'll stick.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: It's like last year, right at the outset, you didn't
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: see bombs away. You saw a lot of quick stuff
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: to James White. In the first game, you know, maybe
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: a wheel route down the sideline was probably the highlight
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: offensive play of that opener against Miami. You saw a
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: lot of running the football. They'll fall back into the
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: things that they're doing best, and then you'll see them
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: spread the field a little bit and then work off
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: at that. I do feel like in order for this
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: offense to get any better than it did last year,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: they're going to have to find a way to get
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: the ball down field more effectively than they did last year.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: That's not really been the problem. Like the execution of
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: whatever they're doing right now is the problem. Not oh,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Matt can't throw it, you know, the whole like the
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: arm strength thing has nothing to do again with how
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: far he throws it. It's how long it takes it
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: to get there. And I don't think that's been the
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: problem so far. It's been execution and sort of widespread
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: And you talked about the running game, Evan that I'll
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: say has been an object as ask and Mac. That's
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: actually one of Max's quotes today. He's like, it's our
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: job to execute, and we're not doing that. Like, we're
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: not executing. It's like they could give us all the
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: plays in the world, but like, if we're not executing it,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: if we're not doing our job, then of course it's
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: not gonna work. Yeah. I liked Evan's points just about
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: we haven't seen any of like the situational football where
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: you're going down the field and Bill's putting the ball
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: here and then all right and then boom boom boom.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: I mean, you haven't seen any of that. I think
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: that's that's a great point, but I think it begs
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: the question, though, you know, you're supposed to tailor this
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: offense right to Mac, Like, isn't this supposed to be
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: playing to his strength? Isn't this supposed to be doing
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: what he does best? Like should there be this much
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: of an adjustment period when you're supposed to be tacking
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: into what he does best? That's you know, that's the question. Yeah,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: And I like a lot of the elements of what
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: they're trying to do because I think The main goal
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: of it is to try to get some of these
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: faster playmakers, are good ball carriers that they do have
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: into space more often, which I think is a good
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: goal to have. But you start to talk about the
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Shanahan tree and the McVeigh coaching staff or wherever you
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: want to go with it, and look at the quarterbacks
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: that those coaches have targeted now that they have some
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: consistency in their program. It's Trey Lance, it's Matthew Stafford,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: it's Zach Wilson with the Jets. These are athletic, big armed,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: you know, high arm talent level quarterbacks. These are not
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: you know, the guys that win with accuracy, with good
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: you know, mechanics and with good reads and timing and
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: things like that above the ears, like like Mac does.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: This is all about physical tools. And there's a reason
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: why the forty nine ers traded in Jimmy g for
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Trey Lance. There's a reason why the Rams traded in
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Jared Goff from Matthew Stafford. It's because those quarterbacks fit
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: what they do schematically a little bit better. So my
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: biggest concern with what they're doing schematically offensively is number ten.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Is this, what's best for Mac Jones or is this
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: what's going to get the best out of him? Because ultimately, yeah,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: it might be great for Johnny Smith to run some
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: some motion and to run some zone concepts and things
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: like that, but the offense is not going to take
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: off because Johnny Smith is having a little bit more
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: of a productive season. It's going to take off because
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Mac Jones makes that step forward. Yeah, I mean that's
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: and that's why I never really bought Mac to the
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: forty nine ers last year when that was a rumor
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: at three, Like, it just didn't really seem to fit
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: like that Shanahan what he wants to do. So that's
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: why overall, I just I have some questions. I think
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: if we had come out here and see a bunch
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: of RPOs while Mac did in college and be like,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: all right, this will makes sense. But yeah, none of
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: that really. I mean, what about on the defensive side
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: of the ball. Just you know what's kind of stood
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: out to you? Any players or anything that you know,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: at least first few days that that have caught your eye. Yeah,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: we'll see if it if it keeps up. Just how
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: much a visit the offense struggling versus the defense, But
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage has been dominated by the defense
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: through two padded practices really very consistently, and not just
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: the starting defensive line, but also the second string defensive
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: line has controlled the trenches as well. Acquity, Daniel Aquality
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: and one on ones had a few wins yesterday today
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: it was a little bit more on the offensive line
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: side of thing, But overall, when we get into eleven
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: on elevens, the defensive front, the linebacker group, you feel
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: a lot more optimistic about that group. I'm still not
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: ready to get super hyped up about the corners yet,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: just because what they're going up against currently right now
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: is not going to be Tyrone against Tyreek Hill and
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Dalen Waddle in Week one, So well, let's wait and
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: see on the back end. But in terms of the
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: front end, I think coming into the it's into camp.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Linebackers in particular was one spot where it seemed like
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: the team wanted to move forward with a different regime there.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: And I would say that guys like ray Kua, McMillan,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: mac Wilson and I think moves at a different speed
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: than some of the other linebackers they've had here in
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: the past, and even Juwan Bentley, who not to give
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: away too much of what they're doing with Juwan Bentley,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: but they're moving him into spots where I think he's
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: going to be less in coverage and less in space
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: and not have to worry about those foot races as
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: much over the middle of the field. So I like
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: what they're doing in the front seven defensively, And I
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: could go through the whole depth chart on the defensive
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: line and say, oh, this guy's been pretty good. That
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: guy's been pretty good, Henry Anderson, some of the younger
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: guys like Lebrian Ray had a good day. She's just
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: about to bring him off someone. Dave and Bethlehem just
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: wrote in asking about about Lebrian Ray. Yeah, yeah, we've
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: gotten to Lebrian Ray. Portion. Hey, listen, second to last
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: rep of eleven on eleven's everybody's hooting and hollering because
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Nelson Aglare caught the ball at the back of the
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: end zone and it was a good pass from mac
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Lebrian Ray would have hit his arm, maybe would have
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: sacked him. Honestly, if this was a live situation, went
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: right around Trent Brown. So he's good and I know
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: exactly the play you're talking about because it just wrote
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: it up for AGLOW because I'm right, I choose to
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: focus on the skill position guys, but I know exactly
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: the rep you're talking about absolutely, So I mean just
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: to get back to the offense for a second, because
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: just why do you think they did this? Like why
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: do you think they changed to this? Like what what
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: you know? I know you said that you think they're
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: trying to play to their strengths, But then when you
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: try to match up what they have a quarterback and
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: you know, running back I think is a strength. You know,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: is this going to help the running game? You think?
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Are these guys you know, going to be better zone
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: read instead of you know, power and having guys pull
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: and all all the stuff that they used to do
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: would seem like an almost overwhelmingly I don't want to
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: say complex, but just the volume of modern running plays
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: that they would do, whether they had a fullback end
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: or not or two tight ends? Why why? Why is
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: this what we're trying to go towards. Well, the one
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: thing I keep on coming back to is if you
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: read about the Shanahan Tree and you study some of
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: their their tape and stuff like that, it's simple. It's
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: really not an overly complex scheme. It's got maybe three
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: or four route combinations that they really stick to, especially
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: to their under center stuff. And it's wide zone left,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: it's wide zone right. It's a little bit of inside
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: zone sprinkled in just to keep the defense off balance.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: But for the most part, you're you could have you know,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Sean McVay probably has a playsheet that's ten plays long
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: in some weeks, you know, some installs. So for the
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: most part, I think that the simplification, and this is
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: what Belichick was talking about during minicamp, the streamlined version
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: of this offense. I think that's number one is that
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: they're trying to make things easier to digest. And you
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: look at somebody like Tae Kwon Thorton, who has had
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: a nice start to training camp here. You look at
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: him and you say, okay, well, how can we develop
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: receivers better, how can we integrate young receivers better, and
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: maybe getting into more simplified air when it comes to terminology,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: when it comes to route concepts will help guys like
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Tae Kwon Thorton, DeVante Parker, you know, newcomers to this
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: system pick it up a little bit quicker. That's I
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: think the number one thing you know, you mentioned sort
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: of they're seeing a lot of the zone concepts out
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: at practice. I also have noticed that when they run
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: to the left side, which is Cole Strange side and
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Trent Brown side, they are a little bit more successful
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: though when they run to the right side. And I
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: wonder how much that has to do with okay on
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: when he was three hundred and twenty five pounds and
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: you're asking him to step out and get out on
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: the perimeter, whereas Cole Strange is drafted because he's a
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: super athlete and that's what he does. You know, there's
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: a little bit of that as well, where I think
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: they're a little bit better running left right. Well, it's
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: an interesting point because we have just brought up on
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: the menu earlier and you know, handbrake getting a little
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: run with some of those guys and pulling them when
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: you out, and we were kind of speculating, do you
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: think maybe so you know, not yet to speculate, but
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: perhaps they're saying, on one you might be a casualty
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: of this switch, and we need to get somebody who
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: can move a little bit better, you know, maybe will Sherman.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know how. You know, he's been
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: kind of up and down. I think I've seemed to
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: be called seeing a couple couple laps by him, but
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: to see you put your piece up to h We'll
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: struggle here, uh in the early days of camp. But
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: you know, if it is so simple, then why is
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: it so hard to get? That's what I'm trying to
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: figure out. If it's if it's streamlined and it's supposed
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: to be easy, like why where's the disconnect? Like is
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: it the musical chairs? Is it the new pieces? And
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: how important is it in sync too? And moving the
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: line and having all the line is one, because I
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: feel like that's a key part of this, of all
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: the line moving is one and being able, you know,
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: to pick up guys and I mean you go back
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: to Denver. I mean they were the ones that you know,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: been running this thing forever and just seem to plug
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: back after back after back in that had you know,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: a thousand yard plus seasons. Mike Anderson being one of
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: a couple of fat guys that ran. We had good
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: seasons there here and there, but um, you know, at
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: some point it's it's it's got to start to turn
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: around a little bit. But I also wonder, you know,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: matt Mattie p talking about oh, as a defensive coach,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I know the things that gave us problems and you know,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: famously Patriots performance against the Sean McVay offense in the
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Super Bowl. We're able to you know, hold them to
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: three points. You know, how do those two things marry up,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: you know, in terms of how Belichick and the Patriots
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: offense or defense we're able to stifle that attack, you know,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: to the point now which again, this doesn't all settle
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: well for me because it just doesn't doesn't sound like
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: something Bill Belichick would do, like all of a sudden,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: go all right, we got to go to this other
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: zone run scheme that's been around forever that you know,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I've never really you know, I have never been a
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: part of that tree or anything like that, and now
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: we're going to do it, Like is it just to
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: keep it simple, is do you think that that you know,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: do you think those that the backs that they have
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: right now can be effective in that scheme? Well, I
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: think the main thing to answer your question is up front,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: there's a lot of breakdowns that are going on right now.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: And I mean I was charting eleven on eleven in
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: passing drills for the most part at the end there,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: and I wrote down three or four times unblocked defender
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: right through the line, right, And that is not about
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: physical breakdowns, right, It's not like Coal Strane or Trent
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Brown or David Andrews just can't block the guy lined
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: up across from that's gonna happen, you know, right, it's miscommunication.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: I wrote him my piece. You know, Matthew Judon, he
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: got around Trent Brown on one play. He's a pro bowler,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: like he's gonna get around people sometimes, right, that's gonna happen.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: Christian Barmore is a game record. He's going to wreck
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: the game every once in a while. But the problem
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: is is when you write, you know, ninety four unblocked
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: off the left side bats a pass down, that's Henry Anderson,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Juwan Bentley off the left side again, unblocked right to
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: the quarterback, and then macoes and he runs around and
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: acts like he scored a touchdown when Jowan Bentley was
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: gonna light him up. The crowd, yeah, yeah, the crowd things.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Biggest crowd reaction of the day was a sack. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: you know those had no idea that it was a sack, right,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: those types of plays. A big thing with this outside
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: zone running game is those interior combination blocks where you
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: have to work up to the second level. That's a dance, right,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: the rhythm of it, it's it's a real rhythmic thing
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: where the running backs and the combo blocks need to
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: sync up so that the back is cutting exactly when
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: the combo block is coming off, and those types of things,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: and the timing needs to be down. So we saw
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: today ray Kua McMillan shoot the gap and he just
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: got through for a tackle for loss on Damien Harris
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: almost instantly. Yeah, And those are the types of players
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: that the communication not seeing it through the same set
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: of eyes, and Max said it after practice, we got
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: to put it up on the board, We got to
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: watch the play, and we got to say to ourselves,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: all right, this guy came through unblocked, what do we
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: do about it? And those are some of the problem
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: solving things that I think they're doing probably right now
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: as we sit here and record the podcast. What do
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: you go ahead? I just I'm I just keep going
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: back to the like math conversation, and just like calculus
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: is the same, like the same, and so if three
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: people are teaching the same offense, you can teach it differently.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: So that's where I'm like, can I have a question
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: about It's been an hour and eighteen minutes and night
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: haven't really mentioned, you know, the offensive coordinator situation, And
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: I personally think and Freddie and I have bickered about this,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: because that's what fred and I do, We bicker. But
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: I wonder, to your point, Tamara, if this whole quote
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: unquote change streamlining, whatever you want to call it, was
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: because they don't have anybody to implement what they were doing.
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: You know, Josh Mtels has been around forever, and all
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: of the coaches that were really a part of that
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: system have never coached that system. And I know Matt
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Patricia has been around for a long time, but the
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: vast majority of his experience has been on defense, Joe
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: Judge special teams. So those were your two best options
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: and you decided to do it. I still think that's
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: the reason why we saw Ivan Fears here every day
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: in the spring is because he was here for one
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: reason and one reason only, and that was to help
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: acclimate those two guys, Judge and Patricia into some of
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: the Patriots offensive concepts. That's why I don't think this
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: is just a widespread Hey, take that old playbook, Evan,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: row it away, and here's the new one we're gonna do.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I think it is a streamlining. I don't think it's
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: a complete overhaul. I think they're trying to do some
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: things differently that maybe Judge and Patricia do have some
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: background in to make it easier for them. And I
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: do think part of it was is for Mac, because
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: I do think Mac, like like Evan talked about, with
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: the spread, you know, getting in the shotgun, maybe doing
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: some RPO stuff, some you know, some things that are
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: he was a little bit more comfortable with, admittedly with
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: dynamic athletes all around him at Alabama that he does
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: not have now. But that might be part of it too.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: But I feel like if if Josh McDaniels were still here,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I don't think we'd be talking about we need to
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: streamline this for Mac and the rest of them. Yeah,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: I think this was for the coaches. Yeah, that was
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: sort of what I was getting out, and I said,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: it's simplified. I don't think it's simplified necessarily for the players,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: especially not for mac Jones, because I think that he's
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: got a great grasp of football and it could probably
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: to just have had anything. When I was watching practice
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: today and watching guys come through blocked and things like that,
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: all I could think about was where the heck is
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: Dote Scarneckia and can we just like get him in
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: here for a couple of weeks through the rest of
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: training camp, because I could see Scar just ripping them
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: a new one right now, I'm going to pick at
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: now for the next month. Maybe if your defense are coordinated,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: I didn't have to coach the offensive line. You'd be
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: able to keep the defensive linement out of the back.
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: I know he's happy in retirement, and he deserves to retire,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: and I don't I don't actually want him to come back,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: because he's done enough for this Organization's not coming back.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: But I mean, that was the one thought that crossed
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: my mind for sure during practice today. It was just like,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: man if if Scar saw the schemes that they were
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: running and how they were running them, I mean, it
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: must drive them crazy that they're not pulling guards and
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: having fullbacks anymore. Like that's he's old school, right, and
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: this type of stuff that they're doing now, I think
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: would really he would be like, what are we doing? Bill?
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Tell you one thing, knock on Wood, but you know
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: we're talking about we got to figure out how to
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: get the offense on track six days into camp. Look,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: you're looking on Twitter around the league. Guy should get
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: like Tim Patrick for Broncos carted off the field during
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: today's practice. Ryan Jensen, the Pro Bowl center for the Bucks,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: looks like he's going to be out long term. Jordan Poyer,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: you know, all pro safety for Buffalo, last play of
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: practice left getting an MRI on his elbow. Looked like
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: a serious injury. I think they're already lost Micah Hide
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: for a little while, right, So it could be a
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: lot worse. They could. We could be talking about how
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: are they going to replace you know, some of these
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: guys that we think are going to be a big
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: part of the equation, and you know, knock on Wood.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: So far none of that. I guess Tim Patrick had
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: to be carted off too. So yeah, and the forty
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: nine ers who I've seen like double digit interceptions by
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: Trey Lance h Well, then you know the question that
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: pops into mind. My mind though, is and and Fred
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: Fred says this all the time. You know, last year
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: team said the Patriots were easy to defend. Is simplifying
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: your offense gonna make it harder to defend or easier
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: to execute for you, and therefore harder to defend. You know,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: It's like, well, if everybody knows what you're doing now,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: and I can smake harder if this is another one
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: that I pick. The reason your reason to defend is
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: because you don't have dynamic players like I don't care
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: what your system is, because the only reason why they
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: ever made plays last year to me is when they
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: completely tricked the opponent. So you can scheme up and
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: get anybody open. But if you can't just consistently line
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: up and win one on one battles, it's gonna be
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: hard to you know, make yourself difficult to defend. I
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: don't care what system you're running. I think the one
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: thing that I've seen out there that does give me
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: some promise and not to hype up the rim too much. Right,
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: but Taykwon Thornton can run. I mean that guy can fly.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: And at this point, that's what you got, right, is
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: I think that we talk about dynamic playmakers. The two
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: guys that have really stood out to me throughout camp,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: even going back to last week, our bar More who
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: we've talked a lot about in Taykwon Thornton and his
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: speed is you want to come and see speed and
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: see it in person and is it legit? Like is
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: this just a fourteen wait an indie at the combine
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: and spandex or is this actually football fast? And he
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: is actually football fast. So if they can find ways
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: to get the ball to him down the field, I
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: think he's going to be able to separate and I
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: think he's gonna be able to take off. But the
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: problem is right now, in order to get the guy's
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: up field, you got to be able to block him
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: up front for long enough for them to get down there.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: So that's you know, obviously marrying it up. But Taekwon
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: Thorton's got legitimate NFL speed, you know, take the top
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: off type speed. Yeah, that was we were I mean,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: we spent a lot of time on him today. I mean,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: and and for good reason. And I think the question was,
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: you know, I think we're like, oh, is he kind
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: of a retcher? Year He's gonna be Oh, we'll put
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: him out there for a couple of plays, let him
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: run down the field and give the defense something to
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: think about, you know, is it? And and I also
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: made the point that it feels like it will be
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: easier to say just throw them out there and get
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: them really involved if Parker and eglorn't weren't having pretty
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: good camp so far. Where do you fall evan on on?
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: How do you get him up to speed? A sap
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: make get that speed into your offense. Let it translate
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: so that you're you finally have these athletes like Paul
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: was talking about, guys that can push the envelope. And
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: and you know my phrase, turn the screws on defenses
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: of like watch watch. I mean, he won't be fifty
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: one of course to the season, but watch fifty one
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: on the outside. We know, you know, it's something to
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: think about. Yeah, I think at this point it's obviously
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: super early, But I don't know if they can afford
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: to keep him off the field for very long because
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: he is by far their most dynamic receiver in terms
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: of speed and ability to separate down the field. He's
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: got a different level of it than like Nelson aglor does,
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: who's also really fast. So I think you look at
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: some of the things that I hope that they do
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: with him. Also don't just involve running in a straight
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: line down the field, right, Maybe he runs in a
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: straight line across the field, or maybe he takes a
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: jet sweeper an end around or something like that and
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: at least provides that horizontal and vertical stretch the defense.
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: I mean, you talked about maybe throwing him out there
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: as a decoy, Like, I'm fine with that. If he's
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: playing fifty percent of the snaps and a lot of
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: it is just him taking the safety with him and
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: trying to pull coverage away from other guys like that,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: there's a very good use of that role as well,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: So it doesn't necessarily have to come in targets and
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: in production on the box score. If he's just out there,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: I think his speed just affects the way the defense
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: has to play. You Now, they just got to figure
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: out ways to fill in the intermediate level with the
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: other guys, and all of a sudden, you got some
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: space to work with, which over the last couple of years,
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: that is a big part of what they're trying to do,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: is everything seemed like it was happening in a phone booth,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: whether it was the running game or is the passing
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: game you're talking about like a twenty yard box, that
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: everything is going on again offensively, and maybe somebody like
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Taekwon Thornton or even Aglare today hit a throw down
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: the field. DeVante Parker the other day had one down
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: the left sideline, So maybe they can stretch the field
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: a little bit more this year. But Tai kwon speed,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: you have to put the safety over the top or
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: respect the deep posts or something like that, which why
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: I think they have to find a way to get
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: him active right away and give him some Bethel Johnson
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: like chances. They hope that he makes a couple of
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: catches because that will make every defensive coordinator take him
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: into account the rest of the way. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: I've been impressed. I mean they haven't just been running
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: them outside too. They've been running out of the slot plenty.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: He's cut some passes over the middle. Sometimes he's almost
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: gotten light up little bit. I don't need any of that. Well,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: I think I think he'll break, you know, I think
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: he'll break if you try to use him like Dion Branch.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: I don't need that, but it's at least encouraging to
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: think about, you know, just the potential. I mean, everybody
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: thinks about out wide receiver going deep, but you know,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: I think having that, you know, seem stretcher and not
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: that you know that that that that's Max's strength, but
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: it still gives you something else to think about. Yeah,
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Born this quiet so far quite so far. We've seen
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: him flash a few times, maybe more than non padded
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: practices in the red zone and stuff like that. But
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: I think Thorton in the slot. You know, he's not
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: gonna be Julian Edelman, He's not going to be Wes Welker,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: but you get that vertical slot element, which if you
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: look at Max Alabama tape him and DeVante Smith, John Mechi,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: I mean that's where he lived, right, slot fades, things deep,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: crossing routs or over routes like things like that were
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: his bread and butter at Alabama, and that seems like
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: where Tae Kwon could really thrive. I'm okay with him
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: not running the juke series over the middle and getting
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: lit up by two hundred and forty pound linebackers, but
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: you get them up the field, I think you can
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: have some elements of that. But it's been a little
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: bit of a quiet camp for Kendrick Borne, at least
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: since the pads came on. He's kind of a gamer, though,
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: so I wonder if maybe he's kind of a quiet
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: practice player in general. Jacobe Myers has flashed a few
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: times here and there with the stuff underneath and things
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: like that, so maybe he can be that guy again
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: who can kind of just move the chains with Agalore
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: and Thornton and Parker working over the top, and obviously
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: have the tight end, so they got plenty of options.
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: It's just putting it all together that seems to be
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: the problem right now, making it more than the sum
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: of the parts. Let's jump to the phones. We got
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Dan from Virginia, Michigan. Hey Dan, what's going on? Hey guys.
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: First off, I just want to say big welcome to
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: Evan and say it's great to see you on the
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Greatest Patriots Podcast. I know who this is. Thank you
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: very much, Thank you. There are rankings. I know everyone
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: the rankings said that you're third, but there are rankings
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: in their reality, so you know, we all know the
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: pu ransum with regards to Camp and Belichick's um tendency
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: to draft unorthodox players and put them in places we
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: weren't expecting. Do you think when you when you're evaluating
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: Patriots camps that you have to eva that you evaluate
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: the context, like who the players are playing with and
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: who they're being talked to by the coaches and so forth,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: more than people watching other teams going through training cramp camps.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: Or is that just you think it's part of the course.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: Should I follow? I'm much sure I follow, which you mean, like,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: I mean, I think I personally I always take the
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: context in of who's kind of in there. I mean,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: it certainly pings the radar when you see a guy
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: like Arlington, Handbrake go in and Michael and when you
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: come out. There's a lot of rotation going on though,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: so you know it might be Parker born in Agalore
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: one series, and then you know they'll put Nixon and
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: you know other guys in there. There'll be too tight end.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: So um, but I do I think I'm guilty of
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: tending to zone out when there's like all the backups
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: are in and you're kind of like, all right, I
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: need a break, or when they start special teams. So
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: do I go to get a Gator. Does that what
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: you mean? Does that answer your question? Dan? Yeah? Kind of.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: I'm talking more about how you know, there are guys
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: that we've seen drafted over the years and we've had
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: great expectations for and look forward to seeing him, and
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: then we see somebody, some other player actually get on
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: the field, more play with the ones, more have more showtime,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: and so it just seems like the she had talent
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: of a player isn't necessarily what bills looking at as
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: much as perhaps what they looked at on on the teams. Yeah, well,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I mean I think I think the example we had
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: of Hambright and on when you like maybe on when
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: you although a great fit for you know, power run scheme,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: you know, maybe he's not a great fit for this,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: so that like you know, I you can see some
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: of that some of that jiggering, and especially on the
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: defensive side of the ball too, where it's I just
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: think they have the ability to go small and fast
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: now and you know, I don't know how effective it's
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: going to be, but you know, between Ucha and mac
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: Wilson and Barmore and even a quality we mentioned who's
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: kind of shown some upfield toughness and some abilities to
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: get after it a little bit like I just think
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: they have a bunch of options. I don't know how
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: it's gonna all come come together. I think about like
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: the two thousand and nine two ten defenses where it
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: was like wholesale changes, where it's like, if it's a rundown,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: we got these whole eleven guys and then you know,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: not maybe not eleven, but you know eight nine guys.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: It's that's how many guys you have to change out.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: So we'll see. It's just like the offense, it's about
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: finding the combination that that all starts to click. And
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: I think they've got some options, but but they haven't
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: quite started to click yet. Thank you, Dan, appreciate the call. Uh.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: I think we're gonna take a brief break here at
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: one thirty as we've gone an hour and a half
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: and uh, we need to get a break, some quick
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: break in pay some pay, some pay some bills and
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: and eat some food. Oh all right, we're gonna hold
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: off on the break for just a minute. Oh. I
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: think this gives me when Fred tried to go to break.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: And then we'll do it live. We'll do a live
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: apparently Pizza times to demand here today at a training camp,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Patriots training camp. But uh, let's see, let's check in
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: with alex As. I wanted to check in with you
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: about off the field right now a little, a little.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: We had some great stuff yesterday about about Bill Russell.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: I thought, I mean, a legend who had come up
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: on the show a couple of weeks ago randomly, and
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I was like, he's just a living legend and of
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: course his uh you know, his legacy and everything he
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: did um for Boston, for African American athletes. I mean
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: just you know, he's on the Hall of or the
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: Mount Rushmore Boston Sports. Um. You know, what did you
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: take away yesterday from from some of the players Slater
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: mccordy talking about later and mccordy spoke really extensively about
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: how Bill Russell was just the guy that they kind
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: of looked up to you hear about growing up, and
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: then that they've kind of modeled their off the field
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: behavior after in terms of what both of them are
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: doing in the community community using their platforms, and I
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: mean a guy like Bill Russell, Muhammad Ali, they kind
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: of laid out the blueprint for using your platform to
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: incite the change you want to see in the world. Right.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: So I'm clearly Matthew Slater and mccordy were good students
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: of Bill Russell and really great insightful comments from both
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: of them just about his lasting impact really extending really
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: far beyond basketball and even the city of Boston. Yeah,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: I liked tell. I think it was Slater who said,
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: you know, I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: for Bill Russell. Yeah, And so I was just like
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: thinking about that and thinking about like, like how much
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: power was in that statement, which is like, that's actually
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: a really good point. It's true. I mean, looking back
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: to when the Celtics were the first team to draft
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: a black player, the first team to field an all
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: black starting five, Bill Russell was their first ever, i think,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: in all of North American professional sports, the first blackhead coach.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: So really paving the way and then dealing with a
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: lot of crap here in Boston and not letting it
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: get him down and kind of rising above it. Yeah. Well, huge,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: huge loss, plenty of attributes everywhere. Alex wrote up a
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: really nice piece yesterday of of you know, everything that
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: the guys had to say. Um, you know, it's just
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: it's Boston sports. It's uh, you know, the teams are
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: are all separate teams, but it does still feel like
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: there's a through line of sports fans here that you know,
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: especially growing up, not even being the biggest basketball fan,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: but just you know, knowing what Bill Russell meant to
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: the town. I mean, he's just like towered over this city,
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: even growing up when I was like in the thick
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: of Larry Bird and Dennis Johnson and Robert Parrish and
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: you know those teams are the eighties. But uh, but
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: a sad loss, and and certainly he'll his legacy will
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: we'll live on here forever. What else we got here?
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Before the food runs in? Anybody anybody got in hand?
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: Oh here it comes mad all right? What a perfect time.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: Ken had probably the best like fifth birthday in the
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: history of fifth birthdays. Yeah, and I was like, I
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: don't remember what I did for my fifth birthday, but
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: for this it wasn't bad. It's pretty cool meeting Max.
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: So we're gonna take a quick break, eat some food,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: pay some bills, and we'll be right back after this.

- 1:42:01Speaker 1: Rogers and fox Borough he Roger Hey Guys. First of all.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: I think we need to let Megan talk more. You
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: guys pickering in the background. She's the best you have
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: on that show. Okay, well listen another. Oh my god,
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: it's gonna be there's no muzzle on Megan. She can
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: talk anytime she wants. So I heard that Doman is retiring.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: Does that mean we have a chance for Danny at
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: Link to be able to get him a receiver on
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: this team. Yeah? I don't know about the retiring thing.
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: But Dontrell Imman looks lost in the first three days
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: in practice. Second time, right, he didn't he would late
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: to camp and now he's not out here. Doesn't feels
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: like a guy who Dontrell Imman wasn't late. He was
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: not late to camp. No, there were reports that he
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: was not going to show up on time, and then
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: he did. But he was. He was it was, but
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: he was here. And wow, you can continue to make
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: stuff up. But he's been the first guy on the
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: field the first three days. No, but I know it.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: And then you can call him late if you want.
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: But that's okay. But you can come without information and
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: just be a smart all right, all right, thanks Roger,
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: I'm sorry, You're right. Roger Roger bringing it. That's another
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: great moment from I still don't at how you guys
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: didn't realize that was Andy. Yeah, we were outside, there
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: was a lot of noise. Yeah, well we got another
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: special guest. I think I'm the only one that didn't
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: know another special guest, mister Fred Kirsch. Hi, thanks for
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: having me. Welcome to the show. Fred, he's checking in.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: He got some free time to weigh in. And what
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: do you think, Fred, what you've been hearing? So I
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: was listening and I it's it was a real good conversation,
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: especially when you know, you guys were talking about why
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: why are they making this offensive change? You know, we've
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: established that they are making the change, there's no doubt
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: about it. Players are saying they have you know, you're
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: you're seeing it for yourselves with your own eyes. It's different.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: Why are they doing it? And I think, you know,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Evans answer could be the most simple answer because they
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: want to simplify it. And you know, maybe Bill said,
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: you know, we lost four guys to Las Vegas, and
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: it's not like the offense has been great the last
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: three years, you know, um, And maybe Bill said, you
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: know what, it's time for a fresh start. You know.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: It's not like Mac is going to be losing, you know,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: that much by changing it now in his second year.
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: So this is our opportunity with new offensive coaches, to
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: just start on a on a friend end. Maybe he
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: thinks this is what's best, you know, for the talent
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: that he has. But it's a I think it's a
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: valid question. Why why the change? Why the wholesale change?
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: I mean, I think there is something to be said
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: for just doing what we do and not overthinking it
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: and just trying to line up and be out physical
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: or out athleticism, if that's even a thing, you know,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: just to lineup instead of having to be so creative
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: and clever and all the different variations and stuff. Just
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: line up and run the ball. But but when do
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: you start to push the like concern button? Like, I know,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: we're all Tara had a good point, Okay, So if
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: this is supposed to be a simpler offense, why does
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: it look so disjoint? You know, it doesn't look simple,
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: you know, but it just could be just something new
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: and everyone's just trying to figure it out. But I mean,
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: I think that speaks too to the point of like,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: is Mac not comfortable right now, Like is Mac not
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: sure what they're doing? Like is it simpler but it's
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: not clicking for him yet? Or you know what? What
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: is that? Like? I just I just go back to
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: the core of it has to be about Mac Jones
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: and he has to If he's not comfortable and he
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: doesn't look like he likes it, then then what are
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: we doing here? What are we doing? You know? Well,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: I mean in the practices that I saw, Like I
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: didn't see today or yesterday, so I can't speak to
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: what you guys, But the ones that I saw, it
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: wasn't just the running game that looked disjoint. And I
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: mean they weren't completing passes, you know, both he and
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: Zappy were you know, pulling the ball down and extending plays.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: You know, that wasn't how the play was supposed to go.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: So it's not just the running game that hasn't looked
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: good so far. Well, let's jump over to the phones
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: right now and go to Mark and Bolton. Mark, you're on,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: hey guy there. Originally originally going to talk to you
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: about the sort of like like some bubble players that
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: that I think are going to make it. But this
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: Brady Dolphins in fraction has really sort of caught me
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: off guards. Um, it fears to me that you know,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: Brady was acting in bad face and Bob Kraft and
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: Belichick were not of the same knowledge of Brady being
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: having a landing spot with the dolphin. Yeah, and I'm
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: wondering if the NFL is going to step in and
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: provide compensation to the Patriots. I don't, I mean to
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: the Patriots could luck. I don't think that'll happen. But no, well,
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: I mean I think Brady could get in trouble. I
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: think Brady could get suspended. I think Brady should get
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: suspended personally. Well, I don't see how the Patriots are.
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: What was the last game of two regular season game
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen they lost to the field advantage. Well, well,
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: so you know, here's here's here's the other part of this.
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: And you can scoff, And I'm not going to argue
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: with you if you do. Scoff. They went to Great
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: Lens to say that they didn't find any evidence of
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: the tanking that supposedly took place for Miami, right right,
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: So that's not my point though. No, No, I'm addressing
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: a side point to Fred like Tom Brady was a
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: free agent who the Patriots didn't want, so they're not
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: getting anything out of this. The Patriots didn't extend him
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: an offer. He had the whole arrangement where he couldn't
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: get franchise. He wasn't going to stay here. So like
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: that whole part of it, to me is is a
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: nothing burger. But Brady openly talking to another team, I
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: think Brady should be in trouble for that. But I
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: think I think the thing is but so your last game,
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: you know, it's almost like Parcel's last game, the Super Bowl?
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: Where was his mind a hundred percent on his current team? Yeah,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: I think it's a fair question to ask. You think
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: you can ask it, But I don't think there's any
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: evidence that it wasn't. That's all. Oh, oh, you mean
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: the twenty five calls to the Jets is an evidence? No,
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: I know, But I think I think Bill Parcels is
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: one of the biggest eagle maniaccers ever coached the football game.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: I think he'd rather have had another Super Bowl title
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: to his under his belt and anything. I don't doubt that.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: I'm saying maybe maybe his attention was somewhat divided but
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: also Bob Kraft was I mean, is it not true
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: that Bob Kraft, when Brady called him and came over
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: to his house, he was expecting Brady to come back.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: I mean, if that's what, if that was Bob Kraft's
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: frame of mind because he wasn't he wasn't privy to
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: the information that Brady could have a soft landing spot
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: in Miami, then that's so. Yeah. I don't agree with so, Mark,
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: you don't think that Brady was pretty comfortable that he
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: was going to get a job, Like, let's just say,
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: for documents sake, he didn't talk to anybody. Do you
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: think that changes anything for Brady's mindset entering free agency? Um? Yeah,
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: I mean I do. I do? Well, Well, listen, So
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: you think that Brady would have entered free agency having
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: no idea if anybody would be interested in acquiring the
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: services of the greatest player who's ever played the sport now?
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: And I also think what regardless of that, I also
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: think that by the time he went to Robert Kraft's house,
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: you know that we read about and Jeff Benedict's had
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: it was over. Yeah. I don't think that. I A
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: disagree caller where mister Kraft thought he was gonna get
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: Brady back at that meeting. I think that was a
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: good bye meeting. But but I think it's a fair
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: question of do you think that Belichick and Craft are
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: upset that Tom Brady was talking to the dogs? I
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: think that's a whole different argument. This is where I
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: think you get into tanking because was Tom Brady like saying,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: I might be in Miami next year, I don't help
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: them win? I mean, no, obviously we know that didn't happen.
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: But that's where I think the tanking comes into it.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: What was Miami's real goal here? But to me, the
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: tanking and the tampering are separate things. I do I think,
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: so separate things, right, Yeah, but why wasn't Miami more
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: in the mix? Then? Yeah, like why didn't Brady go
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: sign in Miami because of the Florest thing? Might have
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: blown that up, that's what they're saying. The timing of
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: the Florest thing might have kind of Brady kind of
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: cooled his heels on that whole thing. Could be. But
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: if they started talks, as this investigation alleges, in August
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: twenty nineteen, that's way before. That's it. But it never
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: came to fruition because the Florist thing through a wrench
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: in the gears. Yeah, the florist thing was happening at
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: the time. Yeah, supposedly, right. They remember they asked, so
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: they asked to talk to him and said no, right,
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: and that's tampering, and that, to me is probably why
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: he ended up not going to Miami because Flores expressed
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: And remember when this first came out, the league was
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: so quick to say, none of this has merit. No,
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: I'm not going to argue because it's not really that important.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: They said there's no merit to the hiring. Um there was.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: There's two separate I think the whole thing. I think
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: that the original thing that came out was about Flora's
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: alleging that the hiring practices were racist, yea, and that
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: it was merrit. And I think that's what the now listen.
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: I think they're wrong about that too. Yeah, I'm not.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: I don't necessarily think these two things, but you don't
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: say that point. They I thought they had everything, it
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: just hadn't been released yet, and they were saying the
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: whole thing, but you might be right, and then it
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: all came out and then they remember immediately within twenty
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: four hours, they had a different statement that said, we're
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: going to be conducting the full investigation. Remember, but I
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: think there was more information that came out. I thought
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: they had it all started out. Your point, Freddy, they
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: may have already had all the information and we're hoping
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: that for the yellow part didn't get you know, uncovered.
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: Let's face it, your boy, rog I know you guys
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: are tightened everything. Not exactly the most stuff, but you
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: know they they've suspended out there. They suspended the owner
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: until October. I don't even I don't know what that
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: but yeah, like you can't call plays anymore, Like what
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: does that mean he's not running the offense? Takes bar
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: for bringing that one up, certainly, no listen it. But
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: what is the Brady's response, Like what is the community?
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: You know, I love Brady saying you know, I love
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: Tom Brady saying to them like, let me just get
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: through this twenty nineteen season, then we'll figure it out. Like,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: you know, I love Tom Brady, but I'm a little
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: upset here. I am. I mean because obviously the burden
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: of the guilt is on the Tamperer, but the Tamparee
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: should have Sun. It wasn't just one call, it was several,
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: and you picked up the phone every time, supposedly allegedly, right,
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: and especially when we're dealing with the most miserable nine
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: and old quarterback in the league or whatever it was
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: before they played the Ravens that year, Like, you know,
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: that's just what's frustrating. It's like we had to deal
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: with the whole thing back to Mike was right, Mike
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: couldn't wait to get rid of the great How do
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: you feel now? Listen, he had it, he had it first. Listen,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: you know, like the the the draw of being a
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: part owner of an NFL team. I mean, okay, I'd
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: listen to that too, still have the Jews. You should
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: wait until you're a free agent, you know. Yeah, Well,
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: I'm curious what else what else comes out about it,
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: because I mean, how did they I'm sure they didn't
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: just get the minami side of things right, Like, I mean,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: they must have gotten what the communications were to some extent,
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: so you know process. And then also how are the
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: Saints like involved with Sean Payton retiring and like what
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: he have? Were they hired from the Saints? Had the
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: whole plan circus going in August to twenty nineteen. Apparently
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: that's when they started to put their plan into place
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: of how they were going to get Tom Brady. And
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: but that didn't have anything to do with Sean Payton
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: now not yet. It's fine Floors had just gotten hired.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: So before he ever coach the game, you your plan
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: was to have Sean pat after training camp. That tampering
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: took place this year, just covering the team in twenty nineteen.
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: With Brady, though, the most the happiest he was was
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: after that Titans game. Honestly, like he was absolutely relieved
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: that that season was over. I mean every single postgame
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: press conference winner lose. The misery on his face was palpable.
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: I mean you could just feel it in the room.
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: I remember, in particular, they beat the Eagles in Philadelphia
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: in the offense that played terrible that one. Yeah, but
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: but I have never seen anybody that upset after I
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: get the office. Didn't play well. They you know, Brady,
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: but you know you still won the game. And usually
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: the mantra around here is, well, we'll fix it, we'll
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: correct it, but at least we got the win. At
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: least we can hang our hat on that, but he
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: was not in for those types of things in twenty nineteen.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: And when he got up there at after the Titans game,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: how it was my first experience because I was lucky
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: enough to be on the beat start on twenty and
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: eighteen when they won the Super Bowl, so I'd never
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: seen them lose a playoff game from this angle, and
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: I thought he was gonna be dejected. I thought it
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: was gonna be devastated. When he got up there at
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: the podium, he looked relieved. He looked like it's like
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: this is over and I can move on, you know,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: just a real almost happy and didn't satisfied with the end.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: And you wonder, you wonder how deep it goes, how
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: really when the first contact was, you know, right, like
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: it's been going on, yeah, for a while. And that's
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: why I think Brady I agree with you, friend. I
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: think Brady should at least get fined or something. It
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: has come out that there's going to be no punishment
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: against Tom Brady. ESPN's reporting that, right, Like, I don't
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: really understand that. I guess the league feels we've had
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: enough of trying to punish Tom Brady. Maybe I know
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: it is kind of all. You know, maybe he maybe
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: he was just trying to ignore the person trying to
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: constantly reach out to him and get in touch with him.
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: He just you know, maybe he wasn't responding. Well, you
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: might have been letting the air out of the conversation
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: calling me on this line, don't you normal They have
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: this line, call me on the other line. Nobody, nobody
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: caught what I just said. No, I said, Brady might
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: have been trying to just let the air out of it.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: I see what you did. There's now now we can
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: make the fleet gage. Miami is the new new England.
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: We got We're good now. I'll tell you what though,
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: I mean, Patriots fans should be pretty fine up for
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: these Dolphins games now, Not to mention they beat in
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: you whatever it is like four the last five times
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: they played you too. It seems to have your number.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: They got Tyreek kill now. But but now this nonsense
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: comes up, so you know, I mean, Patriots confine think
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: the suspension of Stephen Ross, will you know affect their
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: early games zero points? You're right, but the loss of
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: a first and the third round picks they're not in
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: the same year. But it's that's significantly aunt in a
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: million and a half dollars. But that's a lot first
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: third round pick those. Yeah, that's a lot. I mean,
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: you could say it's light, but like, to me, the
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: tanking thing is what I'm like. If if there's some
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: evidence that they tank, I'm telling you Stephen Ross needs
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: to lose the team. Oh that's that's a whole different thing.
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: And and apparently they didn't find any evidence of taking. Say, uh,
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: we're winding things down here, let's let's grab Bill from
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: Oklahoma real quick. Bill is a last call. Oh Bill,
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: we're trying to get you in, and you just called him,
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: but you didn't. All right, well, well you know, just
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: to go back that just I know we're running out
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: of time. But I'm the tanking. They asked him to
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: do it, Flores, and he said no. So they didn't
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: actually ever take They just asked him to tank and
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: he said no, apparently, according to Flores. So you don't
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: think that if they could prove that Stephen Ross requested
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: that his coach lose on purpose, that he should lose
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: his team because I do. Yeah. No, whether or not
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: Flora's followed through with it right to me, is irrelevant. Yeah, No,
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: I can't have a guy who owns a team who's
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: forcing his employees to try to lose. I don't think
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: you can do that. The only thing I can think
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: of is they have evidence of other teams, and where
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: Ross has evidence of other teams and he said, listen,
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: if you take me down for this, I'm going public
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: with everything I know. I'm all the dirts coming out.
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: You know, luckily Karma got them because they drafted their
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: own quarterback. So at the end of the day, what
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: does it really matter? You know. I'd like to hear
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: from Flores though, like when did Flores first realized, like
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: know that they were going after Brady and you know
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: how I mean, I know the next offseason he was
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: involved in that, But was he aware of it that
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: they were while he was already coaching reaching out Like,
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: I don't know. I think that definitely raises some more questions.
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: And the news breaks right as we're coming on here,
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: so he can't really dive into it yet. Uh. One
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: last question here from Jack how much of the offensive
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: line problems are related to the fact that David Andrews
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: has been out early in camp and the substitute centers
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: may not be properly calling the blocking steam Andrews has
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: been out there plenty though yeah it's new to him too.
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: It is, it is does seem to be a mic
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: point problem. Not to get too caught up in the minutia,
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: but this is not like I was saying earlier that
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: Trent Brown misses the block or Isaiah Wynn misses a block.
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: This is they are not configuring it correctly to make
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: sure they're getting hat on a hat, which is a
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: communication and really something that I think is more easily
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: worked out on the whiteboard or in the film room
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: maybe than maybe even out on the field. And Summer
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: respects the least. I don't know. I mean you might
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: say that, Evan, but like there's you know you mentioned earlier.
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: I was listening, you know, the rhythm of it, you know,
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: and and to me, you have to just do it.
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: You can look at it in the whiteboard, but until
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: you're out there moving and seeing the defenses and you know,
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: actually doing it, it would be hard to like, Okay,
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: I should get that guy, you know instead of I.
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: You know, now I've got a guy trailing me, I
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: pass him up because the guy behind me has him,
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: you know. Trust. Yeah, trust. Yeah, like all being on
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: the same page, and you mentioned that also Evans, So
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: to me, you just got it. It's repetition at this point. Reps, reps, reps.
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: You talked to a lot of coaches that run this system.
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: We might if this is truly the way that they're going,
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: the system might not actually be good until twenty twenty three.
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: You know, it could take a whole season of repping
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: this wide zone system until it really takes hold for you.
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: So try to get Joe Gibbs on the phone. Yeah,
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: you know he's retired, right, Yeah, but it was his offense,
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: right or he was the all alexis alexis Alex Gibbs. Yeah,
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: we should interview him about the you know, intricacies of
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: this type of running game. Yeah. Well, hey it's two o'clock,
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: two hours. We did it, guys. We try to get
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: you caught up on training camp. So that'll do it
