Latest / Birds 365: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / Jalen Carter Contract STANDOFF? Eagles Leverage Explained
Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: corner.
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: One name looms large to me, and that is none other than Jalen Carter with the contract situation.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Right when I departed for Italy, I saw a contract come down that was
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Jeffrey Simmons, who got up over, I believe it was over 35 million year Johnny Mac at the defensive tackle position, kind of what we were expecting was going to happen at that spot.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: So it jumps from Chris Jones, who was right around, I believe, 31 to now your top pay D.T.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: is at 35 million in the price for Jalen Carter, just went up.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: How you expecting this to unfold in the next,
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: 30 to 60 days here does he hold out does he ever perform this summer and training camp?
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: What is that look like?
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously it feels to me like the Eagles still have more of the leverage, but a player can make it harder on the team as you've seen happen in the modern game.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: How do you see a John right now with J. Luke Carter, the looming contract and whether he could hold in here with Camp
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, he's hold out no shot.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, zero, I would put that in zero percent.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Hold in, decent shot for the first week or so.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Still less than 50, I'd put it like 20, 25 percent.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: And even that, it'll be massed as, oh, he's got a calf or a hamstring, you know, something.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it'll be massed with that.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: As they try to work out things, but, you know, he doesn't have a ton of leverage to be honest.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's under contract.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think people don't realize he's under contract through 2027.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, either play for the Eagles or you don't play.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: And that doesn't make sense for a young player at this stage of his career.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: So unfortunately, I think a lot of the things that are fueling these types of discussions are it was expected coming off the Super Bowl season.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: He was a no-brainer in the Eagles identify early extension candidates on purpose
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: if he played in 2025, like he played in 2024, he didn't have the injury concerns, he would be extended.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: But last year happened.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think all the signs are positive from the health aspects, so hopefully that he's passed that.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: But he didn't play well last year on top of it.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the hope is that he didn't play well because of the shoulders and the persistent pain.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: But he didn't play well.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: So you're not just gonna waltz in and say, all right, we're gonna give you 37 million set the market.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the thought coming into 2025 was he's gonna set the market.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: How many times have you heard that?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now, I think the Eagles would, if we were 30 million, I think the Eagles would be done.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: They would have extended them.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: So they're trying to get the team friendly deal.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: And he is trying, and Andrew Rosenhaus are trying to set the market.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, to me, the best case would be, go prove it, just like his teammate Jordan Davis did.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now, from the Eagle's perspective, if he does do that, then you got to pay the Jerry Jones tax, I call it for waiting, you're going to have to pay more, which is the reason why they aren't typically proactive, but they're proactive when there's no questions here, there are a lot of questions.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: driving their feet a little bit.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: So you think it will ultimately cost them too much and they should have just taken the, taken the, I'll frame it as a risk by paying them early because there are questions like you pointed out, but it does feel like the reward is still high on the player, or at least the upside, the potential for upside is still very high on the player.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: You think the
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: his number might balloon maybe who knows it could get the 40 million if Chris Jones all of a sudden gets 37 or you know what I mean if something like that happens well now he wasn't eligible for an extension until this off season so.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, if the rules are different, you extend them right after the Super Bowl and yeah, they've done a lot of their extensions, I think, in March and April, like Devante AJ.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the questions are already put in the place at that point, the questions were already at the same questions, the shoulder issues.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Right, so my question to you though, was should they would it have been smart for them to look past that to bank on the upside because they might if he has a good year this year.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then they attach a $40 million contract to them.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: In theory, some of the questions are still there, right?
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the shoulders, if after he gets paid, does he still have some of the immaturity issues?
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think all those questions are going to be there in a matter of what.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, the immaturity stuff they know or they don't know by this point.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't factor that in as much
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: the injury stopped in the money in the descent last season, which is all that was going on in March.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: So the same thing in March, if you would have accepted 30 million, I think they would have gotten it done in March.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you would have accepted 30 million.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that for a fact, but I'm pretty sure.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: So I think they're looking for Jeffrey Simmons' contract and or more.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now, since which Jeffrey Simmons coming in, you have that Bible landmark now, which wasn't there before.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: But the presumption that he would have taken Jeffrey Simmons' contract, I don't know if that's the case.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like the 40 million number was out there for a reason.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: They wanted to explode that thing.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, yes, same thing applies.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think much has changed from the Jeffrey Simmons contract.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Other than you have the new sort of launching point, you gotta go higher than that from Rosenhaus to Side would be my presumption.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: But you are already probably at that number.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and the Eagles don't want to go near that number.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, as you're willing to accept 30 million a year, I doubt it.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: So if that's going to be the case, then he's going to have to play this season.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to have to prove it and then he's going to get more if he plays well and he does prove it.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's the Jerry Jones tax, but I think it's the right move for the Eagles, because there's too many questions.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like when you bring up Devante Smith or even Jalen Hertz the first time, um, players like that,
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: you know, they were locked in.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't mean they're right either, but that the decision making is locked in.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: It turned out to be right with really both of them, but certainly debonta and other players as well, which they didn't have questions and even land the Dickerson where you say, well,
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: you know, from a, from a contract standpoint, they were like, this guy's just great.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: You can't control, Andrew, you can't control that stuff.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: So we're gonna extend them.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff made sense.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: There's enough questions to slow that train with Jalen Carter.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I think prudently so from the Eagles perspective
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, basically his only leverage is, I said, you can hold in for a week or two.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, it might be a spring to ankle, got to got to got to.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: Or you can, they're, they're, they're biggest leverage point is asking for a trade.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I, I almost, I almost wonder, John, if the Eagles are okay with that.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like for example, every time Eagles,
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: team, they want to get ahead of a player.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: They do that, you know, they don't wait.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Jail, he just mentioned two of them, Jail and a Devontate.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: They did it with AJ Brown on his second deal.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: They did it with Lane and Dickerson.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: I do on a lot, say, Quant, they do it with everybody.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: So like the fact that they've done this, almost, and I'm not claiming this to be true.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just wondering and putting it out there.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: Have the Eagles already made up their mind.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: And in their eyes, if Jail and Carter goes and has a great year this year, well, great.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a whole lot easier if you can.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: a first round pick and maybe even more, you know, in the trade market, because somebody will be willing to pay them.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I almost wonder if they've already made up their mind by waiting because it's so against the way they do business.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: I love the word you use to Jerry Jones tax or the phrase, he goes, don't play, he goes, don't do business that way.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: So no, but they have, I mean, that there are, you know, Jordan Davis, they were not sure.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Davis is that way.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he can go through and they, they paid, they certainly paid a tax on Jordan Davis.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: People don't bring that out.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so, I mean, they've done it in the past, but they do it when they have questions and they had questions and everybody admits that Jordan Davis admits that everybody knows
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And he took the baton and he proved it.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: And he got paid.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: And the Eagles paid the Jared Jones tax.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: So they're willing to do that.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where, from their thought process, it's like, are we comfortable enough to set the market right now?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: The answer is no.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: Go play well and we'll set the market next year and they'll pay a little bit more.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: But they will help to my Jerry Jones tax is going to make it harder to do business the way they do it to Jordan Carter.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: You could argue that they're doing the Jerry Jones tax on jail and hurts right now.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't agree with that because that worked out.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now we get to the later stages of the contract.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: But again, he was a high spade player for what 10 days.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm just saying the quarterback market's exploding and the Eagles could have paid him this summer.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's summer.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this summer, you can't pay.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what I mean.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they're they're opting to wait and in a way it will be the Jerry Jones facts.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: They waited till closer to the last.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, if he performs, then he goes to say, yeah, they're paying, they're paying that, too.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, that, that, that to me makes sense, you know, when it's a policy doesn't make sense.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: When you have questions on a player, again, those are the difficult conversations you have to have.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: And you're like, well, what we've seen, what we've seen last year from Jalen Carter and Jalen Hurts wasn't good enough?
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they're saying.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I can't disagree with them.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Me neither.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just wondering if it complicates their team building philosophy because, you know, it feels like before this, it was a long time since they had done taking a Jerry Jones tax.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, everybody that got paid just took a piece of their own Davis literally a year.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but that's this year.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about previous to this year when they were building the team through 2021 through 2024.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm a Jared Jim.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: It took the Jerry Jones tax and he still didn't improve yet.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's a three down player.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's true.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, that again is an interesting part of where they went with the contract.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that presumably will change once
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Moro, most likely, or Jalen Carter, leaves, then it will have to be a three down player.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: So there definitely is projection that he's gonna be a three down player during that contract.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: But until one of those two guys isn't here, he's not gonna play a lot on third downs.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it would be silly to play him on third downs.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was an interesting contract that I've been honest about I mean that blew me away I blew a lot of people away We were all looking at Travis Jones and his contract and bolder more You know, maybe he can beat that And like he's you know, I think he's the fourth I mean he got the same money
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: as Milton Williams.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he got big money.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: And, and look, I mean, you know, the past wrestlers are the ones that get paid.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: Not, not, I'm not even saying that's right.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's just the way it is.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the concern for me with Carter is more that he can't really
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: the questions that you have now will go away.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Look, for example, what Jordan Davis, you might have had the question, all right, can he be more of a three-down player?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: If and theory he gets to that point.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, that question is now gone.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, he's a good enough player to be a three-down player.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: With Jalen Carter, it's like, he could have a great season.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: The Eagles are still probably gonna be like, well, how are the shoulders gonna hold up?
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: Well, as the immature, you're going to re-retend at any point.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like those questions probably won't go away, John.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's not as simple as can this player be this like Jordan Davis's questions?
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think they're, I think it'd be solved by the play on the field.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I, I, what's the other thing that had the shoulder concerns?
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, yeah, but,
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like for example, he was going to want to give him three years or four years because I know Carter's going to want four years.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, the the the year to me is not the number of years is not that big of a deal, but, you know, you prefer, yeah, if you're the Eagles, you prefer three, if you're him, you probably prefer four, but like I don't think people understand how poorly he played last year.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was one of the worst defensive tackles and football from a grading perspective.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: From being one of the most dominant defensive tackles and football the year prior.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, somebody ought to tell Drew Rosenhaus that then.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, Drew's advocate.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Drew's an advocate.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's advocating for his client.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: And he could be a realist.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so he was he was top 10 as a rookie.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: He was 18th,
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: In 2024, and I believe his numbers weren't as high as they should have been because he played so much, and they beat the shit out of them, which is part of the reason he played so poorly last year.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: Last year was ETH of 127, and as a run defender, again, put on that Chicago game.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was 14 of 115 of 130, like he was just
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: not a good player at times last year, which I know the baby years are going to get upset, but so if he goes back to being a top 10 level defensive tackle, I mean then he goes, that's proving
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you're probably looking to get out of the jailing car again.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: And if he's if he's top again, do you have any concern that he did it because of the contract?
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like after twenty four, that's right.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, that's open.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a lot of people amp it up when they have a contract here and they have to prove something.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: But even this is in a contract here.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's got paid twenty seven million dollars in
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Right, that's the fit there.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that's fully guaranteed right to do.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: Eagles have all the leverage and they can afford to wait and they should wait and coming all plus season.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: 40 million of that market, if he comes in today and says, yeah, I'll take 30 million.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll do that.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if the Eagles would do it.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll run that risk.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: 32.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: Is that what you said 32?
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: 30.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: Why would Drew's not going to take that?
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's part of the problem.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't put him above Jones never mind Simmons.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Drew wants him above both.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know that.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's part of the problem.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: And that's just, and I get like
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that'll turn you into a bad team even quicker than the Jerry Jones staff.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: But that was kind of my question earlier about, you know, the, the, the, the, does taking the Jerry Jones tax too many times turn you into a bad team.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're doing it with her hurts, they just did it with Davis, I mean, to your, by you, you and the beat guys, who'd you, who'd you say you thought the court the Davis contract was going to compare to Travis Jones Travis Jones, yeah, which is what 15 million 13 and a half and so all right, there's 11 12 million there.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: And to what's your spine, they're projecting him as a three down player, which is fine, but they're projecting him to be a three down player this year.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: So that's one year crossed off the books.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: Because if Jalen Carter and Moro are healthy, aren't you going to put your past structure on the field on third down?
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you would think.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the top paid guy, chapter 7 is Chris Jones, Dexter Lawrence, Milton Williams are the top four.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: And Jordan's got the same, but less, you know, total money, then I think it was Jordan three years.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan does.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they rolled it in, you know, how the Eagles three years that year.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it's the guys at the top or the interior past rushers.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you talk about nose tackles, you really got to get down to, you know, Bita Bita's at 17.75 is probably the top pure nose tackle and the Eagles paid Jordan Davis 26.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, what the fuck, man?
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: I saw him wondering, is that a foreshadowing
- 20:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, well, they, they're still going to have to pay big money if tomorrow.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like if more on jail and quarter, both have a great year this year, what are their perspectives?
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: What are their values?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: Each of them, harder is probably close to 40, right?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, more of us probably 30.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't think he's, I don't think he's quite as well round.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: It is as Milton so.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I definitely well over 20.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right, it took all 25.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think 25, if you please, good as a defensive tackle, somebody will give it to him on the open market.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: If you're the Eagles, do you rather pay more out 25 and get back a sequession you've been asking?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: And get back a first round pick for Carter, or do you rather pay Carter 40?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: and get back probably a compensatory pick by letting more of a Joe Mo walk in the open market.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know the answer to that.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: Diego is going to have to answer it.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a difficult conversation.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if Jalen Carter plays like he did in 2024, I think it's an easy question.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's a difference maker.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's a game record.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: But he wasn't that guy last year.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: People, again, you have to have difficult conversations.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: And you can say it's strictly because of the shoulders and you might be right.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: And it'd be 100% now with time to rest and then everything should be fine.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're willing to pay the Jerry Jones tax, but,
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: The idea that you're going to keep doing that and keep having questions and everybody keeps hitting in a positive fashion, like at that part, it's going to take care of itself.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you have questions, some of it's going to go negatively.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: Some of it, you know, goes negatively, even if you don't have questions.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: So as long the other part of a journey, which I think is very real, it's still future, but it's real to me is you got guys coming up also outside of these players.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, I mean, I'm not waiting to take the Jerry Jones tax on Queen on Mitchell.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm paying him as soon as possible.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're there.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: That is the plan.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now, she goes in and plays.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, things change quickly, which I don't see it.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: Queen on's getting paid, I think.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: Cooper regime, what are you paying in?
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you don't want to take the tax on him.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: And remember, you can't pick up a 50-year option on Cooper.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: Now, now they're both right now today.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: They're both getting done immediately.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: And they will set the market with Coney on Mitchell, and they will be setting a new market for a Cooper regime, and they'll be willing to do it.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: As long as it doesn't become an organizational philosophy, it's smart.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: I agree with that.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's an organizational philosophy and Dallas.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's the problem.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't want to get too far ahead here, but the next off season looks like it's going to be insane.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Quinn, you know what I mean?
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's going to be insane at all,
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: when the on's going to probably play well this year and Cooper's going to probably play well this year.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so they're getting paid if you got to pay Carter if you got to pay Jalen Hertz, you got to figure out, but maybe Devante Smith maybe, I mean, there's a lot of dudes coming up here at JMac.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, the the the stamp will obviously the quarterback.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it'll be a circus, but I mean, in general, most of the decisions won't be
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: difficult for them.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're not going to be having an enhorn about Queenie hunting Cooper.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: If they stay healthy and continue to play well, you know, the other ones are our questions because they're legitimate questions.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, those, those aren't changing.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have to ask
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so those are two of the arguably from a high profile standpoint.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the two biggest names on the team.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen Hurts and Sakewon Parkland.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: And they're both, you know, and what do you think Sakewon would have to do this year for it to not be his last year in filling?
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty good, right?
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: 1500 yards.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty good.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty damn good.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: And even then you start talking about, you know, post 30, all the touches, I mean, yeah, this, this is, if you're a betting man, I would say this is probably going to be the end of the road for say one.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: And Philadelphia, and that's why I say they're going to run them to the wheels ball off.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: Take advantage of the shelf life while the shelf life has still got some legs pun intended to it.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll see what happens.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of contracts coming up.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: Going to be interesting to see how how we handles it all.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, first order of businesses this season coming up here.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: 19 days out from training from reporting to training camp.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what we are from from the home.
