- 0:01Speaker 1: Taking a Walk Nashville. Well, this is Buzz Night, the
- 0:03Speaker 1: host of Taking a Walk, and I'm so happy to
- 0:06Speaker 1: have Sarah Harrison for Taking a Walk Nashville. We're gonna
- 0:10Speaker 1: do the Taking a Walk Nashville concert calendar. So let's
- 0:13Speaker 1: take a look and see what's happening in music city, Sarah,
- 0:17Speaker 1: what do you see on the horizon.
- 0:20Speaker 2: There's a lot of fun events coming up in Nashville,
- 0:24Speaker 2: as always, but so much packed into this November. I
- 0:29Speaker 2: think I'm most excited for the Country Music Hall of
- 0:34Speaker 2: Fame Muscle Shoals concert coming up on November fourteenth. So
- 0:39Speaker 2: Country Music Hall of Fame, they're opening a new exhibit
- 0:43Speaker 2: all based around the music of Muscle Shoals. So during
- 0:47Speaker 2: November fourteenth at the CMA Theater, the house band of
- 0:51Speaker 2: Muscle Shoals Aces will be performing and some of the
- 0:55Speaker 2: featured artists include Tiara Kennedy, Maggoty Maggie Rose, Shenandoah, and
- 1:02Speaker 2: Wendy Molten, who I know very well.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Now, when was the last walk through you had for
- 1:08Speaker 1: the amazing Country Music Hall of Fame.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It's probably been a few years. I've been there quite
- 1:16Speaker 2: a few times. I've been to a lot of concerts
- 1:18Speaker 2: at the CMA Theater. But what I love about the
- 1:21Speaker 2: Hall of Fame is they're always changing up their exhibits,
- 1:25Speaker 2: so there's always a reason to go back to see
- 1:27Speaker 2: their new exhibits.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I think it's one of the best museums that I've
- 1:32Speaker 1: certainly been to. And you know, there's some amazing ones
- 1:36Speaker 1: out there, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame being
- 1:40Speaker 1: one of them. But what I love about the Country
- 1:44Speaker 1: Music Hall of Fame is that it touches everything it
- 1:48Speaker 1: takes on country when it comes to Americana, when it
- 1:53Speaker 1: comes to certainly the historical part and the legacy of it,
- 1:58Speaker 1: it just has so much dynamic to it. That's certainly
- 2:02Speaker 1: how I love getting lost at the Country Music Hall
- 2:06Speaker 1: of Fame walking through it me.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Too, And this will be a fun night because we
- 2:10Speaker 2: get to see how country music made its way down
- 2:14Speaker 2: to Muscle Shoals and the country music that was recorded
- 2:16Speaker 2: down there.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Now have you spend any time in Muscle Shoals.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I have, Yes, I've toured the different studios down there
- 2:25Speaker 2: in Muscle Shoals, and I have family in Birmingham, Alabama,
- 2:29Speaker 2: so it's definitely a town I've passed through many times.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So, since we are talking concerts coming through Music City
- 2:37Speaker 1: and there's so many of them, and since taking a
- 2:40Speaker 1: walk Nashville will cover certainly the wide breadth of music
- 2:44Speaker 1: that is in Nashville, I wanted to ask you, first
- 2:47Speaker 1: of all, before we look at some particular dates and
- 2:51Speaker 1: artists playing, what are some of your favorite venues in Nashville.
- 2:56Speaker 2: In Music City there's so many great music venues. The
- 3:01Speaker 2: Ryman is one. Margo Price is playing there in November.
- 3:07Speaker 2: We have the listening room the Bluebird Cafe if you
- 3:11Speaker 2: can get a ticket. But everywhere you go in Nashville
- 3:14Speaker 2: there's always music playing. East Nashville there's some great music
- 3:19Speaker 2: venues too, and there's a brand new music venue in
- 3:23Speaker 2: Nashville called the Pinnacle and that was opened in February
- 3:27Speaker 2: of this year, and Paul McCartney is playing at the
- 3:30Speaker 2: Pinnacle this November, so that's another great concert for people
- 3:34Speaker 2: to go to.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Wow, that's amazing, and I'm sure there's even room for
- 3:39Speaker 1: other places to develop as well. Let's go back to
- 3:42Speaker 1: the Ryman and well, first of all, when we first met,
- 3:48Speaker 1: we took a walk up to the Ryman and recorded
- 3:52Speaker 1: our episode there. But the Ryman remains, certainly for me
- 3:57Speaker 1: one of my favorite places in you know, knowing that
- 4:01Speaker 1: Margot Price is coming through sounds like a pretty exciting
- 4:05Speaker 1: take coming up in November. I would guess that's a
- 4:07Speaker 1: pretty hot ticket.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's coming up on November twentieth, Great Americana lineup.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Besides Margot Price, it looks like Rattlesnake Milk Texas Band
- 4:19Speaker 2: is opening up for her, so that'll definitely be a
- 4:22Speaker 2: popular show to attend.
- 4:24Speaker 1: How about East Nashville in terms of venues, There's a
- 4:30Speaker 1: place that I got to visit one time that from
- 4:33Speaker 1: the outside you would be scratching your head about what's
- 4:38Speaker 1: going on inside there, But when you get inside, and
- 4:41Speaker 1: I'm talking about the Basement, it's a pretty it's a
- 4:44Speaker 1: pretty amazing venue. What's your take on the Basement.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so we have the Basement on Eighth Avenue, which
- 4:51Speaker 2: is the smaller version, and then the Basement East and
- 4:55Speaker 2: East Nashville. It's like the bigger venue of the Basement.
- 4:58Speaker 2: But they I've had some flooding issues and tornado damage
- 5:03Speaker 2: when we had a tornado here a few years ago,
- 5:05Speaker 2: so they rebuilt since and I've been to many concerts there.
- 5:10Speaker 2: That's a great venue, and it looks like Thomas Dolby
- 5:14Speaker 2: is playing there this November as.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Well, which when I saw that, I was like, wait
- 5:19Speaker 1: a minute, I didn't know he was still out touring now.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Thomas Dolby had this song called she Blinded Me by
- 5:26Speaker 1: Science as it was the hook. But I found it
- 5:30Speaker 1: so interesting that of all people and of all places,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Thomas Dolby bringing an act on the road and he's
- 5:38Speaker 1: playing in Nashville.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that should be a fun show to go to.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'm not sure if he's released new music in a while,
- 5:47Speaker 2: but maybe he will for this tour.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Well. Like some artists when they repertoire is a little shorter,
- 5:55Speaker 1: they play the hit twice.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Have you ever seen What's true?
- 6:00Speaker 1: No, So as a singer songwriter, you see venues a
- 6:05Speaker 1: little bit differently to go out and play at. So
- 6:10Speaker 1: what are some of your favorites as an artist going
- 6:12Speaker 1: out to play at.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I definitely love the listening room. I'm playing there shortly,
- 6:18Speaker 2: and what's fun about the listening room and that kind
- 6:22Speaker 2: of venue is you know, people are quiet and they're
- 6:24Speaker 2: actually listening to the songs being played. But it's more
- 6:27Speaker 2: of a songwriter venue, So it's about three or four
- 6:31Speaker 2: songwriters what they call in the round, and each songwriter
- 6:36Speaker 2: will take a turn sharing their story of how they
- 6:39Speaker 2: wrote the song and then play a song and they
- 6:41Speaker 2: just go around. So that's always my favorite format of
- 6:45Speaker 2: show to play.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Well, I want to just throw out something to the
- 6:50Speaker 1: members of the listening audience that might be from the
- 6:54Speaker 1: musician community. If you're going out and you want us
- 6:57Speaker 1: to publicize your your gig that's coming up in the
- 7:02Speaker 1: near future, certainly you can get a hold of us
- 7:06Speaker 1: and we're happy to give you a little little props
- 7:09Speaker 1: and a little publicity there to support Music City and
- 7:13Speaker 1: to support the music community. So the goal of doing
- 7:19Speaker 1: this concert calendar is not only to highlight folks like
- 7:22Speaker 1: Margot Price and acts like Paul McCartney who don't necessarily
- 7:27Speaker 1: need our support, but we are so pro artist and
- 7:33Speaker 1: pro musician that anybody that's out there that maybe wants
- 7:37Speaker 1: us to put in a word happy to do that.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I hope, Sarah, we've opened up the floodgates by doing this.
- 7:43Speaker 1: How's that.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I think that's a great point, Buzz, especially because you know,
- 7:48Speaker 2: it's great that we have so many events and concerts
- 7:51Speaker 2: happening happening constantly here in Nashville, but when there's so
- 7:55Speaker 2: many shows going on at once, sometimes it's hard to
- 7:58Speaker 2: break through the noise or sell tickets or get people
- 8:01Speaker 2: to show up. So anyway we can help to promote
- 8:05Speaker 2: shows and get people to show up, we would love
- 8:09Speaker 2: to help.
- 8:09Speaker 1: So we ask one last favor of those listening. If
- 8:13Speaker 1: you like this podcast and you want to share it
- 8:17Speaker 1: with your friends, please do tell the world about taking
- 8:20Speaker 1: a walk Nashville. Tell the world about taking a walk.
- 8:23Speaker 1: We're happy for you to share all of it. Lastly,
- 8:28Speaker 1: we want to share your project that has been in
- 8:32Speaker 1: the works for a long time. By the time we
- 8:35Speaker 1: probably play this episode, there'll be a lot that has
- 8:39Speaker 1: happened for your project. But tell everybody about that exciting project. Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I've been a part of an upcoming documentary. It's been
- 8:48Speaker 2: in the works for probably a year and a half now,
- 8:50Speaker 2: but it's finally happening. We've already done some filming for it.
- 8:56Speaker 2: It includes myself and Nashville artist Wendy Molten and Judy
- 9:01Speaker 2: Pastor and Texas artist Delaney Ann. And it just takes
- 9:05Speaker 2: a look in the life of what it's like to
- 9:08Speaker 2: be a female in the music industry and maybe struggles
- 9:12Speaker 2: we go through or what it's like for us on
- 9:15Speaker 2: the road as more of an independent singer songwriter. So
- 9:19Speaker 2: I'm really excited for people to see this documentary. And
- 9:23Speaker 2: we are about to do a run of shows in
- 9:26Speaker 2: Tennessee and Texas. We're performing at the Listening Room. We're
- 9:30Speaker 2: doing a benefit show with Strings for Hope, a wonderful,
- 9:35Speaker 2: wonderful organization that supports female survivors of interpersonal violence. So
- 9:42Speaker 2: we're just really excited to come together and perform together
- 9:46Speaker 2: this week.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Well that sounds awesome, and thank you Sarah, and encourage
- 9:51Speaker 1: everybody to check out Taking a Walk Nashville, and we
- 9:53Speaker 1: are part of the iHeart podcast network and wherever else
- 9:58Speaker 1: you get your podcasts.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Thanks Sarah, Thanks Buzz
