- 0:00Speaker 1: Mr. New York, Mark Simone, is on 710WOR. Well, hey,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the Yankees, tomorrow night, game one. Yankees-Tampa, seven-game series begins
- 0:14Speaker 1: tomorrow night, 6.30. It's going to be a beautiful fall weekend.
- 0:19Speaker 1: That's good. The merger has taken place. Paramount, Warner Discovery,
- 0:27Speaker 1: they come up with a new name, Skydance. Nobody likes
- 0:29Speaker 1: the name except these two Ellisons. They've decided with CNN. Now, remember,
- 0:35Speaker 1: this is a massive conglomerate of huge media stuff. And
- 0:40Speaker 1: CNN is really kind of a tiny little thing. It's
- 0:43Speaker 1: just about 400,000 viewers. It's a last place, bottom of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the barrel cable network. So it's a little, little part
- 0:51Speaker 1: of this company. The guy that's been running it for
- 0:53Speaker 1: years is Mark Thompson. So apparently the CEO, David Ellison,
- 0:57Speaker 1: has met with Thompson and has said he'll keep him on.
- 1:03Speaker 1: He can stay. He'll run it. Not going to be
- 1:06Speaker 1: Barry Weiss from CBS. First of all, the problem with
- 1:09Speaker 1: Barry Weiss, she hasn't really distinguished herself at CBS. She
- 1:13Speaker 1: redid the 630 News, the nightly news, with a new anchor.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Looks good, but the ratings are terrible. CBS was always
- 1:23Speaker 1: in last place on the evening news. but they sunk
- 1:26Speaker 1: even lower. The ratings are really bad. So that's not good.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Then she tried to fix up 60 minutes and it
- 1:33Speaker 1: looked like she did the right stuff. She tried to
- 1:35Speaker 1: take it back to the old 60 minutes where they
- 1:37Speaker 1: do really good investigative pieces and, you know, profiles of
- 1:43Speaker 1: sports stars or movies. So it seemed good, but the
- 1:47Speaker 1: ratings are, they're okay. Just not a lot of big improvements.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So she hasn't really distinguished herself. So, They're going to
- 1:54Speaker 1: keep this CNN boss, CEO of CNN, Mark Thompson, on.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But if you look at the fine print, apparently he's
- 2:02Speaker 1: got a year left on his contract. So I think
- 2:05Speaker 1: they just don't want to pay off the contract. So
- 2:08Speaker 1: they're letting him work out the final year of the contract.
- 2:11Speaker 1: It just means they haven't found who they want to
- 2:13Speaker 1: run it. Or they haven't decided what to do with CNN.
- 2:17Speaker 1: You could keep it as a news network, or you
- 2:20Speaker 1: could turn it into something else. There's a lot more
- 2:22Speaker 1: money in other things. On cable, you know, you could
- 2:25Speaker 1: do a million other things with a cable network. So
- 2:28Speaker 1: I think it's just leave him there. Let him finish
- 2:32Speaker 1: out his one year left on his contract. And then
- 2:34Speaker 1: they'll figure out who they want to put in there.
- 2:37Speaker 1: It's interesting. Jimmy Kimmel has been in New York all week,
- 2:41Speaker 1: actually Brooklyn, doing a show there all week. And he's
- 2:44Speaker 1: having every left wing. You know, last night it was
- 2:47Speaker 1: John Oliver. And who's that other dopey guy? So Seth Meyers.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Between the two of them, they have like 37 viewers.
- 2:56Speaker 1: In fact, it's kind of insulting to them. They had
- 2:59Speaker 1: to have them on together. John Oliver, Seth Meyers. Neither
- 3:04Speaker 1: one of them is big enough to have on alone
- 3:06Speaker 1: as a guest. So they brought them together because they're
- 3:08Speaker 1: two very little tiny TV shows with very small audiences.
- 3:13Speaker 1: They combined them. Although Howard Stern, look at Howard Stern.
- 3:17Speaker 1: He got to come on all by himself. Not only
- 3:19Speaker 1: did they have Howard Stern alone, But they gave him
- 3:22Speaker 1: 18 minutes. That's a nice long segment. Stern and Kimmel
- 3:28Speaker 1: are very, very close friends. They go on vacations. The
- 3:33Speaker 1: wives get along. They travel together. They went to Europe together.
- 3:38Speaker 1: They go on cruises together. They do everything together. Very close.
- 3:43Speaker 1: They go to dinner together. Howard Stern goes to dinner
- 3:45Speaker 1: with very few people and very rarely. But he does
- 3:48Speaker 1: it with Kimmel and his wife. Very close. So he's
- 3:52Speaker 1: on the show and he looked into the camera and
- 3:54Speaker 1: he said, listen, ABC, nobody is a better team player.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Nobody has done more for ABC than Jimmy Kimmel. Well,
- 4:02Speaker 1: of course, that's not true. But he is a guy
- 4:07Speaker 1: who does things. And then Stern said, you know, when
- 4:10Speaker 1: they do those events, those corporate events for the sponsors,
- 4:13Speaker 1: they call them the upfronts where they invite all the advertisers.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It's like a convention for all your sponsors. And he says,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Kimmel goes to those. Kimmel shows up at those. That
- 4:24Speaker 1: is really something. First of all, everybody does. It's part
- 4:27Speaker 1: of your deal. It's part of your contract. You got
- 4:29Speaker 1: to do that stuff. Every star of every network goes
- 4:33Speaker 1: to those things they call the upfronts where you appear
- 4:36Speaker 1: on stage, you speak to all the advertisers, then they
- 4:38Speaker 1: have a cocktail party afterwards where you mingle with everybody
- 4:42Speaker 1: does that. Nothing, nothing unusual about that. Stern says, I
- 4:45Speaker 1: don't do that. Well, he doesn't have any sponsors. It's
- 4:48Speaker 1: on satellite radio. Do you ever hear the sponsors? They
- 4:50Speaker 1: got like, Two sponsors you never heard of. But, hey,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and by the way, behind the scenes, in all of
- 4:58Speaker 1: his years in radio, Howard Stern was very big with
- 5:01Speaker 1: the sponsors. He'd call them up personally. He would always
- 5:04Speaker 1: talk to them. He'd pay a lot of attention to them.
- 5:06Speaker 1: So when he says, I wouldn't do it, he's been
- 5:07Speaker 1: doing that all his life. Now, here's the interesting part. Well,
- 5:11Speaker 1: Stern went on to threaten ABC almost. And he said,
- 5:14Speaker 1: if you cancel Kimmel, if you take this show off
- 5:16Speaker 1: the air, there will be hell to pay. I don't
- 5:18Speaker 1: know what that means. Stern could mobilize his audience, which
- 5:22Speaker 1: is now about 26 people. He's only on one day
- 5:26Speaker 1: a week, like 20 weeks a year or something like that.
- 5:29Speaker 1: But it's very interesting. ABC is owned by Disney. And
- 5:34Speaker 1: the chairman of Disney gives an interview, long interview, in
- 5:39Speaker 1: a trade magazine and was asked about Kimmel and said
- 5:43Speaker 1: all kinds of great things about Kimmel. But at the
- 5:49Speaker 1: end of all of this, great things about Kimmel. She
- 5:53Speaker 1: points out that we love him, but it's not a
- 5:56Speaker 1: good business model. You remember the Colbert show was losing
- 6:00Speaker 1: $ 40 million a year. Losing $ 40 million a year. And
- 6:04Speaker 1: it was doing a lot better than Kimmel. So Kimmel's
- 6:07Speaker 1: losing a lot more money. But what they've done with Kimmel,
- 6:09Speaker 1: they've cut his budget. The most recent cut was like 25%.
- 6:12Speaker 1: They cut the budget 25%. And the problem is these
- 6:17Speaker 1: late night shows are just disasters. They're small audiences. They
- 6:20Speaker 1: don't make a lot of money. So most of them,
- 6:22Speaker 1: even the Tonight Show, they can't afford to do five
- 6:25Speaker 1: days a week. They actually only do three, four days
- 6:27Speaker 1: a week. And the rest is reruns. But this Disney
- 6:30Speaker 1: chairman in the interview said, it's a money loser. There's no,
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know, it doesn't work as a business model, the
- 6:41Speaker 1: Jimmy Kimmel show. You're just going to take a big
- 6:42Speaker 1: loss all the time. So the interviewer, who's trying to defend, uh,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Kimball says, well, yeah, but on YouTube, he gets like
- 6:50Speaker 1: a million views on YouTube. And the, uh, Disney chairman says,
- 6:54Speaker 1: that's great. We don't make any money off that. It
- 6:55Speaker 1: doesn't help us in any way. There's no profit in that. So, uh,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you know, and there's a, here's a great media critic
- 7:02Speaker 1: who's writing, you know, the old Howard Stern would have
- 7:04Speaker 1: understood all this. If you got a show and it's
- 7:06Speaker 1: got a tiny audience and it's losing money, it's ridiculous
- 7:10Speaker 1: to keep promoting this thing. Uh, And the critic says
- 7:17Speaker 1: Stern is now like an ultra-rich liberal supporting a fellow
- 7:20Speaker 1: ultra-rich liberal misleading the public on what the actual business
- 7:25Speaker 1: issues are and why ABC would consider dumping it. Hey, Anthropic,
- 7:30Speaker 1: that's a big AI company. They're known for Claude, their
- 7:35Speaker 1: AI product. Anthropic, a big, big AI company, talking about
- 7:39Speaker 1: an IPO. And they're looking at November 7th. They want
- 7:43Speaker 1: to wait until after the midterms. But the anthropic IPO,
- 7:47Speaker 1: who knows? That could be very big. Who knows? It
- 7:49Speaker 1: might not be very big. A lot of people leery
- 7:51Speaker 1: about AI companies that could be facing a lot of regulation.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But it's a California firm. They said they'll have to
- 7:59Speaker 1: spend $ 500 billion in the coming years on cloud computing
- 8:05Speaker 1: and infrastructure. $ 500 billion. Their revenue last year was $ 4. 6 billion.
- 8:12Speaker 1: But that's like 10 times what they made the year before.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So it is, I mean, the good news, it is
- 8:18Speaker 1: on the upswing. Hey, crazy little Mom Donnie, our goofy mayor. Now,
- 8:23Speaker 1: the good news is, and we've been telling you this
- 8:25Speaker 1: all along, as crazy, as horrible as his anti-Semitism is,
- 8:31Speaker 1: as just horrifying as his ideas are, his socialism, all
- 8:35Speaker 1: this crap, the good news is he is a guy
- 8:40Speaker 1: who never had a job. He's a kid who never worked.
- 8:43Speaker 1: never had a job, knows nothing about running a business
- 8:46Speaker 1: or managing or anything like that. The good news is
- 8:49Speaker 1: he doesn't actually do anything. President Trump has met with
- 8:53Speaker 1: him a couple of times. President Trump talks to him
- 8:56Speaker 1: on the phone a lot. One thing about Donald Trump,
- 8:58Speaker 1: he can read people. He's very good at reading people.
- 9:01Speaker 1: He's got like radar, sonar, and he's been telling people
- 9:04Speaker 1: privately about Mom Down. He's been telling people privately, the
- 9:09Speaker 1: guy's a coward. He's not brave. He's also very lazy.
- 9:12Speaker 1: He's not going to do anything. He'll get nothing done.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I mean, the one thing he does get done, he
- 9:17Speaker 1: makes these TikTok videos. He does podcasts. He does interviews.
- 9:21Speaker 1: He smiles. Goes on any kind of podcast. Makes another
- 9:25Speaker 1: TikTok video. This is his day. This is what he does.
- 9:28Speaker 1: So he's on this Theo Vaughn podcast. Here he is
- 9:34Speaker 1: again going after Netanyahu. This is a good example. You
- 9:37Speaker 1: remember he's screaming through the campaign. And while he's in office,
- 9:40Speaker 1: he's screaming that we're going to arrest Netanyahu. We're going
- 9:44Speaker 1: to arrest Netanyahu. If he comes to New York, we're
- 9:46Speaker 1: arresting him. It's just talk. He just talks. Netanyahu comes
- 9:50Speaker 1: to New York. Mamdani does absolutely nothing. Netanyahu is here
- 9:55Speaker 1: for a few days. He leaves New York. And here's
- 9:58Speaker 1: Mamdani back on this podcast saying we're he's calling for
- 10:01Speaker 1: the arrest of Netanyahu. The guy was just here. You
- 10:04Speaker 1: didn't do a thing. But this is the Mamdani playbook.
- 10:08Speaker 1: So you can be a little reassured by that. Every
- 10:11Speaker 1: crazy thing he says, it's just talk. He never actually
- 10:14Speaker 1: does anything. But here he is on this podcast again.
- 10:17Speaker 1: They must arrest Netanyahu, and he calls for the U.S.
- 10:20Speaker 1: to join the ICC. That's the International Criminal Court. This
- 10:25Speaker 1: is a fake court that was— three guys in the Netherlands
- 10:29Speaker 1: came up with this fake thing, the International Criminal Court.
- 10:32Speaker 1: They got a couple of crazy little third-world dictatorship countries
- 10:37Speaker 1: to join them, but nobody recognizes this court. It's not
- 10:41Speaker 1: recognized by the United States. Even the big Democratic leader, Schumer,
- 10:45Speaker 1: Hakeem Jeffries, have said, This is not a real court.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Nobody should recognize it. So, uh, they put out an
- 10:52Speaker 1: arrest warrant for Netanyahu, but again, it's not a real court.
- 10:54Speaker 1: This is a real court. Like a judge Judy has
- 10:57Speaker 1: a real court. This is like the people's court. It's
- 10:59Speaker 1: just something somebody made up. So, uh, but, uh, in
- 11:05Speaker 1: the podcast, mom Donnie's talking about Netanyahu. He says the
- 11:08Speaker 1: architect of a horrific genocide, but this is the way
- 11:12Speaker 1: this guy is. Uh, Anything Netanyahu did was merely a
- 11:16Speaker 1: response to the Holocaust that took place on October 7th. Now,
- 11:22Speaker 1: that's war crimes, just slaughtering babies, just literally cutting the
- 11:27Speaker 1: throats of babies, raping women. That's Hamas. You never hear
- 11:31Speaker 1: a peep about it from Mamdani. He doesn't even mention it.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But Netanyahu responds the way anybody should respond, and Mamdani
- 11:40Speaker 1: yelling and screaming, But this is all he does. He's
- 11:44Speaker 1: also on this podcast talking about how wonderful socialism is. Now,
- 11:48Speaker 1: you could look at history, and socialism has been tried
- 11:52Speaker 1: 10,000 times, a total failure all 10,000 times. One thing
- 11:57Speaker 1: about these crazy left-wing Democrats, they don't believe in science.
- 12:01Speaker 1: They never follow the science. For instance, an economy. There's
- 12:05Speaker 1: a science to an economy. We know what works. We
- 12:08Speaker 1: know what doesn't work. because it's been tested a million times.
- 12:11Speaker 1: This is an actual science. Like socialism, it's been tried
- 12:15Speaker 1: 10,000 times. It's failed 10,000 times. Not only has it failed,
- 12:18Speaker 1: it's made everybody much worse. So that's the science. 10,000 experiments, 100%
- 12:24Speaker 1: failure rate. But again, Democrats and socialists don't follow the science.
- 12:29Speaker 1: They just ignore the numbers. They ignore the science and
- 12:33Speaker 1: just keep going. But that's the good news of Mom Donnie.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He just does these silly podcasts. Now, this is a
- 12:39Speaker 1: This one's a little over the line here. The other
- 12:44Speaker 1: thing he does all day is TikTok and social media.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And he's got this social media team, about 200 influencers.
- 12:52Speaker 1: They call it his troll farm. And his new plot
- 12:56Speaker 1: now is to go after the big CEOs in New York,
- 12:58Speaker 1: the big CEOs, and smear them. He's going to have
- 13:02Speaker 1: these 200 influencers go after them. Now, apparently there's some grown-ups...
- 13:08Speaker 1: Actual adults in the Mamdani administration, they are very alarmed
- 13:12Speaker 1: about this. In fact, that's the reason we know about this.
- 13:15Speaker 1: They have been warning everybody, telling reporters, leaking out this project.
- 13:20Speaker 1: They think it's disgusting. A smear campaign against New York
- 13:23Speaker 1: City's top CEOs. Now, hopefully, this will wake up these CEOs.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I mean, they're all trying to get along with Mamdani,
- 13:33Speaker 1: but it might wake them up to the fact that
- 13:35Speaker 1: they've got to actually do something. They can put together
- 13:38Speaker 1: massive amounts of money, massive amounts of money, and go
- 13:43Speaker 1: after him, social media, or just bombard the airwaves with commerce, something.
- 13:49Speaker 1: But they're going to have to respond to this guy
- 13:52Speaker 1: and once and for all stand up to him and
- 13:54Speaker 1: put him in his place. But this could get ugly
- 13:57Speaker 1: in the meantime. Red Sox out of it. Dave Portnoy,
- 14:02Speaker 1: you know, he's a Boston guy, a Massachusetts guy, really
- 14:05Speaker 1: going after the Red Sox. Portnoy really going after the owner,
- 14:09Speaker 1: John Henry, saying it was absolutely humiliating. The Red Sox
- 14:13Speaker 1: can't score their lineup, and they were just awful in September.
- 14:18Speaker 1: But this is what John Henry wants. I don't know
- 14:20Speaker 1: what that means. John Henry's the owner. Red Sox owns
- 14:24Speaker 1: Liverpool Football Club, owns RFK Racing. He owns the Boston Globe.
- 14:30Speaker 1: But Portnoy says they're just built to be a fringe
- 14:32Speaker 1: playoff team, to not compete for the division. Just a
- 14:35Speaker 1: fringe playoff team. that gets bounced quickly. Yeah, I guess
- 14:39Speaker 1: it is. I've been a bunch of those through the years. Hey,
- 14:42Speaker 1: we'll take some calls next. 800-321-0710 is the number. 800-321-0710.
