  Speaker 1: right by spending time with God as you go into

  Speaker 1: this day, don't go into it thinking you can handle

  Speaker 1: this day. Remember you were made by God.

  Speaker 1: And you were made for God, and God made you

  Speaker 1: so that life doesn't work right unless you are in

  Speaker 1: right relationship with Him. So put your relationship with God

  Speaker 1: at the top of your priority list. Spend time every

  Speaker 1: morning drawing closer to God, listening to His voice in
• 0:45
  Speaker 1: your heart as you read the Bible and responding to
• 0:48
  Speaker 1: Him in prayer, making your life close to what His
• 0:53
  Speaker 1: plan is for you.

  Speaker 1: We're talking this week about God's grace in our lives.

  Speaker 1: We come today to 2 Corinthians chapter 8, verse 9.

  Speaker 1: Where Paul is talking to the Corinthians about financial giving,

  Speaker 1: but in the midst of it, he says the real
• 1:13
  Speaker 1: model of giving is Jesus.

  Speaker 1: Paul says, for you know the grace of our Lord
• 1:20
  Speaker 1: Jesus Christ.

  Speaker 1: That though he was rich,
• 1:25
  Speaker 1: Yet for your sake he became poor so that you
• 1:30
  Speaker 1: through his poverty might become rich.

  Speaker 1: Gave up so many spiritual privileges, became spiritually poor so

  Speaker 1: that you could become spiritually rich, the most important way

  Speaker 1: to be rich in life.

  Speaker 1: Grace. Paul says, you know the grace of our Lord

  Speaker 1: Jesus Christ.

  Speaker 1: Someone has very cleverly and correctly defined grace by spelling

  Speaker 1: G is for God and it says God's riches at

  Speaker 1: Christ's expense. G R A C E. God's riches at

  Speaker 1: Christ's expense.

  Speaker 1: Yes, it's true what God does in your life. God's
• 2:27
  Speaker 1: grace to you is a free gift. A gift is free,
• 2:32
  Speaker 1: isn't it? But it's only free to the one who
• 2:35
  Speaker 1: receives it. The one who gives the gift pays the
• 2:39
  Speaker 1: cost of the gift.

  Speaker 1: God's grace is a free gift to us. Romans 6:23

  Speaker 1: says the wages of sin is death.

  Speaker 1: But the free gift of God is eternal life in
• 2:55
  Speaker 1: Christ Jesus our Lord.

  Speaker 1: Well, if eternal life is a gift from God to us,

  Speaker 1: that means we don't have to do all sorts of
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: good works to earn it. It's free to the one
• 3:08
  Speaker 1: who receives it.

  Speaker 1: So who pays for this unbelievable gift?

  Speaker 1: Well, listen to the verse again, for you know the
• 3:19
  Speaker 1: grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich,
• 3:24
  Speaker 1: yet for your sake he became poor, so that you
• 3:30
  Speaker 1: through His poverty might become rich.

  Speaker 1: The great preacher D. Martin Lloyd Jones once said, the
• 3:39
  Speaker 1: ultimate test of our spirituality is the measure of our
• 3:45
  Speaker 1: amazement at the grace of God.

  Speaker 1: I wonder if you've ever really come to grips in
• 3:53
  Speaker 1: your heart.
• 3:54
  Speaker 1: With what it cost Jesus to offer you forgiveness and
• 3:59
  Speaker 1: new life.

  Speaker 1: To some people it's too amazing to conceive of. They think, Well,
• 4:05
  Speaker 1: I have to earn it in some way. I have
• 4:08
  Speaker 1: to be extra religious or do good deeds in order
• 4:12
  Speaker 1: to be accepted by God. But that's not right. When
• 4:16
  Speaker 1: God changes your heart, the result will be that your
• 4:19
  Speaker 1: life changes in those ways. But you don't do those
• 4:22
  Speaker 1: things in order to be accepted by God.

  Speaker 1: Hm

  Speaker 1: Why don't you take a moment if you have never
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: put your trust in Jesus Christ and thank God for
• 4:35
  Speaker 1: what He has done for you if you've been trying
• 4:38
  Speaker 1: to earn God's forgiveness by being good enough.
• 4:43
  Speaker 1: Tell him I'm sorry that I've been trying to pay
• 4:46
  Speaker 1: you for something you are giving me as a gift.
• 4:49
  Speaker 1: Thank you for paying the cost for me in Jesus' name. Amen.
