- 1:08Speaker 4: We have to hurry that extra game.

- 1:44Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:48Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium, and we're kind of wallowing in our
- 1:51Speaker 1: misery after losing to the Dolphins. Ugh, but we're getting
- 1:57Speaker 1: ready for the Jets. We can't lose to them, right right?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Has this become a must win game?
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Three week three?
- 2:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like.
- 2:05Speaker 8: That in the standings, And just like mentally, I think you,
- 2:08Speaker 8: I don't think you could handle this being the first
- 2:10Speaker 8: time in fourteen wins that you break the streak against
- 2:14Speaker 8: the Jets.
- 2:14Speaker 4: On this one.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah. No, Aaron Rodgers, you know.
- 2:17Speaker 4: It's still gonna be tough.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Though. Listen, there's no penciling in this win. You know
- 2:23Speaker 1: that's a legitimate defense and we're an offense in the making.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So it's a good way to put it.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a nice way to put it.
- 2:31Speaker 9: Yeah, I might be down to Indianapolis for penciled in wins.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yea, and that could change.
- 2:37Speaker 1: That's what they looked. Okay, although did Richardson get hurt?
- 2:41Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, concussion? Okay, well he was evaluated for concussion.
- 2:45Speaker 9: I don't know if he actually had one, but yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 9: so it's that's that's the only one I had, like
- 2:51Speaker 9: New Orleans and Washington both too, and now.
- 2:54Speaker 1: It's it's Tamara, Evan, Paul, myself, Matt and Nabooth and uh,
- 2:59Speaker 1: let's start at the beginning with Sunday's.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Game and on the seventh day.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, we had the post game show. I'm
- 3:10Speaker 1: sure a lot of people listening and watching now we're
- 3:14Speaker 1: listening and watching back then. But you know, if you
- 3:16Speaker 1: want to relive your takes or amend your takes, well
- 3:20Speaker 1: I have.
- 3:20Speaker 4: A little bit more clarity. I don't know clarity for yourself.
- 3:23Speaker 8: But you know, part of it is just, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 8: getting a lot of negative Patriots energy out there right now.
- 3:28Speaker 8: I had to do the mail bag this week, which
- 3:30Speaker 8: was an adventure in getting angry emails about you know,
- 3:34Speaker 8: all the things that could be done this offseason. But
- 3:36Speaker 8: I think for me, I think it's just offensively. I
- 3:39Speaker 8: think they got to get the offensive line right, you know.
- 3:40Speaker 8: I mean, I just I don't want to spend all
- 3:42Speaker 8: my time talking about they got to fire the coach,
- 3:44Speaker 8: they got to get a new quarterback, they have to
- 3:46Speaker 8: get a weapon, like you know, all those things that
- 3:47Speaker 8: just aren't gonna happen in the next fifteen weeks. The
- 3:50Speaker 8: real things that are going to happen, or that they
- 3:51Speaker 8: have to get their offensive line in order, they have
- 3:53Speaker 8: to find a running game, and you know, I think
- 3:55Speaker 8: all the other problems we can kind of, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 8: put a pin in. We'll talk about in the off
- 3:58Speaker 8: season about receivers and quarterbacks and coaches.
- 4:01Speaker 4: And all those things.
- 4:02Speaker 8: But I think the team is pretty much set, and
- 4:04Speaker 8: they have to get Trump Brown back, and then they
- 4:05Speaker 8: have to figure out the right tackle spot, and they
- 4:07Speaker 8: got to get the three guys in the middle playing
- 4:09Speaker 8: up to their standard, and then we'll see what happens.
- 4:11Speaker 4: You know. That's where I'm at right now.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I mean, Evan's crew does a really good job after
- 4:15Speaker 1: the game of getting that all twenty two and highlighting
- 4:19Speaker 1: things and the things that I saw after the game.
- 4:22Speaker 1: You know that people posted that we were seeing early
- 4:25Speaker 1: last year on the old line. Is guys just not
- 4:28Speaker 1: blocking anywhere, like and it's a communication thing, you know.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And I just we saw Cole Strange. I saw one
- 4:35Speaker 1: with Cole Strange who didn't have anyone to block, and
- 4:38Speaker 1: then another I forget who it was. I don't think
- 4:44Speaker 1: it might have been on Onnu, I'm not sure, but
- 4:45Speaker 1: running out and just no one to block. And meanwhile
- 4:50Speaker 1: Mac is getting sacked because a safety came in right
- 4:52Speaker 1: up the middle, you know. So it's it's a commune,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I don't I think physically. I think our guys are
- 4:59Speaker 1: fine on the line. It's just communication and not knowing
- 5:02Speaker 1: what to do. And I wonder, like kind of job
- 5:05Speaker 1: is Adrian Clem doing right now?
- 5:07Speaker 4: Yeah, you don't get Vederian Lowe out of there.
- 5:09Speaker 8: I mean, you know, it's just he's not good like
- 5:11Speaker 8: he's not he's not a legitimate NFL left tackle.
- 5:13Speaker 4: So I think that that colors some of it.
- 5:15Speaker 8: But I think all the guys in the middle they
- 5:17Speaker 8: have some responsibility too. It's not just the two new
- 5:19Speaker 8: guys on the edges. Although those two tackles I think
- 5:23Speaker 8: are are probably their biggest issues right now.
- 5:24Speaker 10: I also don't think that you can fully like blame
- 5:27Speaker 10: it on Adrian Clem either, because it's like he hasn't
- 5:29Speaker 10: even had all the pieces.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm not blaming, I'm just wondering. I'm sure it's a
- 5:33Speaker 1: lot of when the guy when your guard is just
- 5:36Speaker 1: running around with no one to block. That's to me,
- 5:38Speaker 1: that's communication. That's like not knowing somebody didn't call it.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Maybe it's Mac not calling out the blocking assignments correctly,
- 5:45Speaker 1: or you're not hearing it right or whatever, but that
- 5:49Speaker 1: you know that's there's something wrong there.
- 5:51Speaker 10: I would have to imagine too that it's even just
- 5:53Speaker 10: hard to find a rhythm in communication when you have
- 5:56Speaker 10: a different group out there every single time and you
- 5:58Speaker 10: don't know who's healthy. True, you don't know like who
- 6:01Speaker 10: you're going to be playing with, Like it's not cohesive
- 6:03Speaker 10: when you have different guys out there every week.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it is one of those communication things. Fred.
- 6:10Speaker 9: I think you have it because really, if you look
- 6:12Speaker 9: at it, what they played with on Sunday is basically
- 6:15Speaker 9: four out of five guys that most people would say
- 6:18Speaker 9: that's what you're going to have, you know, you put
- 6:20Speaker 9: Trent Brownett left tackle, and that I mean, that's it.
- 6:23Speaker 9: Most people felt like for now, either that or Anderson
- 6:26Speaker 9: swapped out for Riley Reef. That's what the plan was
- 6:29Speaker 9: going in. So I do think it's more of a
- 6:32Speaker 9: communication issue. And I think back to Dante because whenever
- 6:36Speaker 9: we talk about the offensive line, it always gets back
- 6:38Speaker 9: to Scar and he used to say all the time.
- 6:41Speaker 4: What Freddie.
- 6:42Speaker 9: The five guys need to play together so they see
- 6:44Speaker 9: it with one set of eyes. You know, we can't
- 6:48Speaker 9: have five different people seeing things five different ways. It
- 6:51Speaker 9: needs to be five people seeing it exactly the same.
- 6:54Speaker 9: And I think that's probably hard to do when you
- 6:57Speaker 9: haven't had a lot of practice together.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I do think that that has a chance.
- 7:02Speaker 9: I think Mike's the way you got into that I
- 7:04Speaker 9: really agree with. You're not going to be able to
- 7:06Speaker 9: go and you know, trade for t Higgins. You know
- 7:09Speaker 9: you're not going to add something really significant that transforms
- 7:13Speaker 9: your team. The best realistic hope for improvement is those
- 7:18Speaker 9: five guys up front learn each other and start to
- 7:21Speaker 9: play better and protect Mac Jones better, and they run
- 7:23Speaker 9: the ball.
- 7:23Speaker 8: And run the ball, and I mean that's I mean,
- 7:24Speaker 8: they can't run the ball right now, and that's you know,
- 7:26Speaker 8: like they're better than that. Like I don't I don't
- 7:28Speaker 8: know how good they can be in the passing offense.
- 7:30Speaker 8: I mean, they're they're limited, but but they can at
- 7:33Speaker 8: least have a functional run than they have in the
- 7:35Speaker 8: first Then let's kind of see what happens with the
- 7:37Speaker 8: pass game. I mean, I'm not going to tell you
- 7:39Speaker 8: that they're going to be you know, this explosive, all
- 7:41Speaker 8: over the place offense. I just think that they can
- 7:43Speaker 8: be better. It starts upfront with getting those guys settled.
- 7:46Speaker 8: And you know, it's Cold Strange's first game, it's Michael
- 7:49Speaker 8: and wnu's first game. Andrews Evan I, you know, didn't
- 7:52Speaker 8: play great. So you know, they just and I think
- 7:54Speaker 8: that that's another kind of theme which I'll tie into
- 7:56Speaker 8: the defense, which is just disappointing upfront from the big
- 8:00Speaker 8: boys and Jawan Bentley, and you know, I respect what
- 8:03Speaker 8: the secondary did. They hung on, they were you know, competitive,
- 8:07Speaker 8: I just think they got pushed around up front. And
- 8:10Speaker 8: you know, the one of the things I remember saying
- 8:11Speaker 8: in the offseason and then people gave me a little
- 8:13Speaker 8: crap about it was I'm just worried that, you know,
- 8:15Speaker 8: you're kind of got an expiration date with this defensive front,
- 8:18Speaker 8: and we've been this is what season three, season.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Four of Godshaw Guy Wise.
- 8:24Speaker 8: You know, I thought Wise was okay, but it's just
- 8:26Speaker 8: I wonder if those guys are getting past their expiration
- 8:28Speaker 8: date today. I mean, if they can't get up for
- 8:30Speaker 8: a division game and they get pushed around like they
- 8:32Speaker 8: did against the Dolphins, that's a bigger concern. So I
- 8:35Speaker 8: don almost say I came out of this like reviewing
- 8:37Speaker 8: the game yesterday.
- 8:39Speaker 4: It's not saying I feel better about the offense, but
- 8:41Speaker 4: feeling that I have some clarity about the path forward.
- 8:43Speaker 8: Defensively, I have a little bit more worry because I
- 8:46Speaker 8: think if the guys up front start to fade, it's
- 8:48Speaker 8: going to be a long season.
- 8:49Speaker 10: I also think like something that is just really weird
- 8:52Speaker 10: about the first two games and obviously most of last season,
- 8:54Speaker 10: the turnovers. It's like ball security has been more of
- 8:57Speaker 10: an issue. I feel like the past what's seven team
- 9:00Speaker 10: games and I feel like in the Patriots past before,
- 9:03Speaker 10: and it's just weird. It's just not It's not normal
- 9:07Speaker 10: for a Bill Belichick led team to just be so undisciplined.
- 9:10Speaker 8: I agree and like, but the thing I was thinking
- 9:11Speaker 8: about last night though, was like you had a rookie
- 9:13Speaker 8: make a play and he got and didn't realize there
- 9:16Speaker 8: was a guy behind him. You know, it's not like
- 9:17Speaker 8: to Mario Douglas's fumble. Is this you know what it macked?
- 9:21Speaker 8: You know, like it it's a rookie making a mistake,
- 9:23Speaker 8: like it happens. And you know, I know that this
- 9:25Speaker 8: has been a feature in the first two games, and
- 9:27Speaker 8: it's easy to kind of connect those dots and say
- 9:29Speaker 8: they that they need to be better there. But at
- 9:31Speaker 8: the same time, like rookies, fumbling is going to happen,
- 9:33Speaker 8: like you just you need to have a margin of
- 9:35Speaker 8: error that when that happens. And I think we can
- 9:36Speaker 8: all get into you got to get Douglas right back
- 9:38Speaker 8: out there, because he showed on.
- 9:40Speaker 4: The play the explosive ability that he has.
- 9:43Speaker 8: So you know, I just I think some of it
- 9:45Speaker 8: is tough because it's all kind of getting wrapped into
- 9:47Speaker 8: one kind of thing. But I do think that that
- 9:49Speaker 8: first one it's it's a rookie making a mistake.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean they're minus two right now in the
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know, in that category.
- 9:58Speaker 9: Right and it also it's a little deceptive too because,
- 10:02Speaker 9: and I agree with the way Mike said it, their
- 10:05Speaker 9: minus two because of what actual turnovers are, but that
- 10:09Speaker 9: doesn't take into consideration that Philadelphia went for a fourth
- 10:12Speaker 9: down from their own side of the field and missed
- 10:14Speaker 9: and gave you a short field to try to win
- 10:16Speaker 9: the game in the opener, that's a turnover, doesn't go
- 10:19Speaker 9: dount as a turnover. And then the block field goal
- 10:21Speaker 9: which turned three points for the other team and put
- 10:24Speaker 9: you on the Miami side of the field, and to
- 10:26Speaker 9: start another drive that doesn't count as a turnover, but
- 10:28Speaker 9: that might as well be one, you know. So, like
- 10:32Speaker 9: Fred's right, their minus two, but the other teams have
- 10:35Speaker 9: made these kinds of mistakes too, And to Mike's point,
- 10:37Speaker 9: the margin ferrer is bigger, you.
- 10:39Speaker 1: See, and like just it's only two games. But my
- 10:42Speaker 1: feeling is, even though their minus two and that's not good,
- 10:47Speaker 1: turnovers haven't been the reason why they lost.
- 10:50Speaker 9: I think you could say the first game that was
- 10:52Speaker 9: I don't think it was the reason why they lost this.
- 10:53Speaker 10: Yeah, the first game for sure, Like I mean, it
- 10:56Speaker 10: put points on the board for the other team because
- 10:57Speaker 10: of both of those. And I also just hate that
- 11:00Speaker 10: when the defense or special teams does get those turnovers,
- 11:03Speaker 10: they can't capitalize on them.
- 11:04Speaker 1: But that's the thing. They've had ample opportunities to overcome
- 11:08Speaker 1: those turnovers in both games and they just didn't do it.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So like, I don't know, I'm just well, it's.
- 11:14Speaker 8: The beginning of the game, right, I mean, that's the colors,
- 11:16Speaker 8: the kind of you know, the narrative of what the
- 11:19Speaker 8: game is.
- 11:20Speaker 4: You're in a hole and you got to climb out
- 11:21Speaker 4: of it.
- 11:21Speaker 8: But you know, most teams like the first two possessions,
- 11:24Speaker 8: like that's the first two possesions of the game. You
- 11:26Speaker 8: got whatever it is, fifty more minutes to make up
- 11:28Speaker 8: for it. So you know, it's it's I see what
- 11:30Speaker 8: you're saying.
- 11:30Speaker 5: The head coach thinks it's the turnovers. Yeah, said it
- 11:33Speaker 5: after the game. Yeah, he's ass point blank, what why
- 11:36Speaker 5: do you think you guys are getting yourselves so far
- 11:38Speaker 5: behind the eight ball? And he said turnovers. And I
- 11:41Speaker 5: have a whole list of grievances with this team right now,
- 11:43Speaker 5: so I won't get.
- 11:44Speaker 4: His comments are starting to become one of my lists.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Of three hundred percent.
- 11:48Speaker 6: I was.
- 11:48Speaker 5: I have a tangent for that comment. As well, but
- 11:50Speaker 5: I look forward to just to the start. I would
- 11:54Speaker 5: just say that I feel like I'm staring at the
- 11:57Speaker 5: same pig that is wearing nicer close like when I
- 12:01Speaker 5: talk about the offense, and the pig is the personnel, right,
- 12:04Speaker 5: Like the personnel is not dynamic. It's I said this
- 12:07Speaker 5: last week, and everybody came at me and said, oh, well,
- 12:10Speaker 5: they threw for three hundred yards and they had three touchdowns,
- 12:13Speaker 5: and how could you say it didn't look better. They
- 12:15Speaker 5: do not have any explosive players. They have two plays
- 12:19Speaker 5: over twenty yards in two weeks, two plays, and one
- 12:22Speaker 5: of them was a screen to Remandre Stevenson when they
- 12:26Speaker 5: were down by two scores late in the fourth quarter
- 12:28Speaker 5: of a game, So I don't really count that one
- 12:31Speaker 5: a whole lot. They have two explosive plays. They can't
- 12:34Speaker 5: run the football either, as Mike has pointed out, and
- 12:36Speaker 5: I agree wholeheartedly that's a big thing. But in general,
- 12:40Speaker 5: I think we blame a lot on the offensive line.
- 12:43Speaker 5: I understand why, but I don't think that the turnovers
- 12:46Speaker 5: or the offensive line are the only things that we
- 12:48Speaker 5: should be blaming or looking at. Is need needs to
- 12:52Speaker 5: improve with this offense, and I hear you.
- 12:56Speaker 1: But it's hard to judge all those other things when
- 13:00Speaker 1: the line's playing the way it's playing.
- 13:02Speaker 5: I mean, everyone right now, they.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Really execute the way you want to execute. They were
- 13:06Speaker 1: in your calling play like the play calling on Sunday
- 13:10Speaker 1: was to me looked totally like, I know, my line
- 13:14Speaker 1: can't give me time. So these are the plays that
- 13:16Speaker 1: we have to choose from. You weren't your whole playbook
- 13:20Speaker 1: wasn't available to you because of the condition of the.
- 13:23Speaker 5: But but is that justified because I don't feel it's justified.
- 13:27Speaker 5: I don't think that that's an excuse fair enough.
- 13:29Speaker 1: But that's what I don't you think that the plays
- 13:33Speaker 1: that were called were a result of the confidence in
- 13:36Speaker 1: the line.
- 13:36Speaker 5: And so I asked O'Brien this morning about under center.
- 13:40Speaker 5: They have ran four passes from under center in two weeks.
- 13:44Speaker 5: They have one under center play action pass the entire
- 13:47Speaker 5: way so far. Max dropped back one hundred and seven times,
- 13:50Speaker 5: and he said that he agreed that it's an imbalance
- 13:54Speaker 5: that they would like to correct. And you talk about
- 13:56Speaker 5: the running game, and to me, with the running game,
- 13:59Speaker 5: the easiest thing in football offensively is to put the
- 14:02Speaker 5: quarterback under center and hand the ball off to the
- 14:05Speaker 5: running back. If you can do that, then you can
- 14:08Speaker 5: really build a ton of stuff off of that. And
- 14:11Speaker 5: they have just not really and this is my greate
- 14:13Speaker 5: with O'Brien is that they have just really not done that.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Well, you're looking at O'Brien, but there was a stretch
- 14:19Speaker 1: last year where they didn't go under center either. Is
- 14:21Speaker 1: this a Mac thing where he just tells whoever is
- 14:24Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, I don't feel comfortable under center. I feel
- 14:27Speaker 1: better having a good look at the at the defense
- 14:30Speaker 1: from shotgun.
- 14:32Speaker 5: It could it be a Mac thing, absolutely, but I
- 14:34Speaker 5: would say to Mac at this point, too bad, because
- 14:38Speaker 5: they have personnel. They have two big backs, they have
- 14:42Speaker 5: their interior offensive line is the strength of the offensive line.
- 14:45Speaker 5: They have to run the ball downhill, they have to
- 14:48Speaker 5: and putting Ramandra Stevenson a two hundred and twenty five
- 14:51Speaker 5: bound back in shotgun where he's starting from a standstill
- 14:55Speaker 5: and doesn't really have a lot of momentum going into
- 14:58Speaker 5: the line of scrimmage. That's not his game. It's not
- 15:00Speaker 5: the type of back that he is. He is not
- 15:02Speaker 5: a spread offense running back. He's a running back that
- 15:05Speaker 5: if you give him a head star from seven yards
- 15:07Speaker 5: behind the line of scrimmage and you turn around and
- 15:09Speaker 5: hand the ball off to him that he can make
- 15:11Speaker 5: plays with the ball in his hand, and then you
- 15:13Speaker 5: start to sequence together the play actions and that's when
- 15:15Speaker 5: you start to hit some more plays down the field.
- 15:18Speaker 5: If they expect to line up and shotgun and be
- 15:20Speaker 5: an explosive offense with the playmakers that they have on
- 15:23Speaker 5: the outside, then it's gonna be the way that it's
- 15:25Speaker 5: looked because they don't have the guys. They don't have
- 15:27Speaker 5: the horses on the outside to just say, hey, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 5: DeVante Parker, you're matched up against Xavian Howard, just win
- 15:33Speaker 5: a rout. You know. They don't have those types of guys,
- 15:36Speaker 5: and so they are not an explosive offense right now
- 15:39Speaker 5: because they're not calling enough play action. Max only had
- 15:44Speaker 5: play action on thirteen percent of the dropbacks. It's not enough.
- 15:47Speaker 5: They need to call more play action. They need to
- 15:49Speaker 5: be able to run the ball. And Mike and I
- 15:51Speaker 5: were talking about this upstairs. I don't really love their
- 15:54Speaker 5: run scheme right now either. I don't really love what
- 15:56Speaker 5: they're doing in the run game, the gun run, the
- 16:00Speaker 5: lack of polers, the lack of lead blockers up to
- 16:03Speaker 5: the second level. They are running a whole lot of
- 16:06Speaker 5: duo and inside zone and it just looks like a
- 16:09Speaker 5: muddied mess in the middle of the field. There's not
- 16:11Speaker 5: a whole lot of space, there's not a whole lot
- 16:14Speaker 5: of get up to the second level for the blockers
- 16:16Speaker 5: to kind of try to spring Remandre onto a bigger run.
- 16:20Speaker 5: I just I think that they need to get back
- 16:22Speaker 5: to their bread and butter and this is not it.
- 16:24Speaker 4: But respectfully, respectfully, you know, you had two rookie guards
- 16:31Speaker 4: playing against the Eagles, Like, is that conducive to play.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Excuse last week because they had Mike on right now?
- 16:38Speaker 8: But but I mean, you know, it's two games and
- 16:41Speaker 8: you got a good I mean, you know, I'm just
- 16:42Speaker 8: saying this.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Is I made that point last week. Maybe he had.
- 16:44Speaker 9: They don't want him to turn his back to a
- 16:46Speaker 9: pass rush that they think is probably going to be
- 16:49Speaker 9: there and that that might call for the play the
- 16:52Speaker 9: lack of play action. But the running stuff, to me
- 16:54Speaker 9: is different and the time to throw, like I do listen,
- 16:59Speaker 9: the top of the list is the offensive line instability.
- 17:02Speaker 9: I think we all agree on that. I don't think
- 17:04Speaker 9: that's all that controversial. But the whole time to throw, like,
- 17:08Speaker 9: didn't I see a bunch of your your stats of
- 17:12Speaker 9: talking about how Tua's time.
- 17:15Speaker 4: To throw was was less. There's one on average.
- 17:19Speaker 9: Now, obviously the pages didn't have any pressure because it's
- 17:22Speaker 9: impossible to pressure a guide that quickly didn't seem to
- 17:26Speaker 9: affect their game plan. They threw the ball in you know,
- 17:29Speaker 9: different different areas.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Guys, they can get into their routes faster.
- 17:32Speaker 9: Okay, so this is what I think Evan's talking about.
- 17:35Speaker 9: They don't have a dynamic nature to their offense, that's true,
- 17:37Speaker 9: which leads you to have stats like this. You know,
- 17:41Speaker 9: they average four point one yards of play in Week
- 17:43Speaker 9: two and that was the worst of the week, not
- 17:45Speaker 9: including the two Monday night games.
- 17:46Speaker 4: I don't know if anybody was worse than that.
- 17:49Speaker 9: But mac Jones in two weeks is leads the league
- 17:54Speaker 9: in past attempts and passes completed. He is twenty eighth
- 17:59Speaker 9: in yards per attempt twenty ninth and yards per completion
- 18:03Speaker 9: twenty sixth. In net yards per attempt whether a QBR,
- 18:06Speaker 9: that's eighteenth in a rating of twentieth. So they're throwing
- 18:11Speaker 9: it a lot and they're completing it a lot, but
- 18:14Speaker 9: they're not making any plays with it. So you know,
- 18:16Speaker 9: you can blame the offensive line for that. Sure, I
- 18:19Speaker 9: think that's absolutely on the on the list. To me,
- 18:22Speaker 9: it's at the top of the list. But I think
- 18:24Speaker 9: it also is sort of simplistically eliminating the other issues.
- 18:28Speaker 4: With the offense.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Well, there's a lot of I mean, so we've talked
- 18:31Speaker 1: to offensive linemen over the year and they always tell us,
- 18:35Speaker 1: we love it when we're running. You know, we love
- 18:37Speaker 1: it when you know we're told you know, we know
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's going to be a run play and you can
- 18:41Speaker 1: just fire out and you know, dominate. We love it,
- 18:45Speaker 1: you know when we're when we're running well, and that's
- 18:49Speaker 1: the game plan right right now, what you're seeing is
- 18:52Speaker 1: you know, maybe you know mac is, I don't know
- 18:55Speaker 1: if he's changing calls it the line or whatever. But
- 18:58Speaker 1: you don't see guys firing out, you know, that's for sure,
- 19:01Speaker 1: And that tells me that there's a lot of you know,
- 19:04Speaker 1: it was a run play, we're changing to a pass,
- 19:07Speaker 1: or it was a pass play, we're changing to a run,
- 19:09Speaker 1: and the offensive line in their head don't have that
- 19:13Speaker 1: run mentality right now.
- 19:15Speaker 5: You know, it's definitely a mentality thing when it comes
- 19:18Speaker 5: to running the ball, that you have to want to
- 19:21Speaker 5: run the ball like it's as much as we can
- 19:23Speaker 5: talk about scheme and what they're doing and what they're
- 19:26Speaker 5: not doing in terms of the ex's nose, running the
- 19:29Speaker 5: ball is a mentality. But I just at the end
- 19:32Speaker 5: of the day, I look at O'Brien and I think
- 19:36Speaker 5: he's a great offensive coordinator. He's obviously an experienced guy.
- 19:39Speaker 5: He knows what he's doing. But at the end of
- 19:41Speaker 5: the day, they don't have enough scheme related conflict in
- 19:45Speaker 5: their offense right now. There's not enough play action, there's
- 19:48Speaker 5: not enough window dressing. It's just we're gonna run it
- 19:52Speaker 5: right at you or we're gonna throw it right at you.
- 19:54Speaker 5: And when you do that, you better have good players.
- 19:57Speaker 5: You have to have good personnel, and this team doesn't
- 20:00Speaker 5: on offense, are not good enough at least like teams
- 20:03Speaker 5: like Cincinnati play it that way. They can because they
- 20:07Speaker 5: have Jamar Chase and they have T Higgins, they have
- 20:09Speaker 5: a great quarterback. The Patriots are a team that they
- 20:12Speaker 5: need to create openings for their passing game. They need
- 20:16Speaker 5: to scheme guys open, they need to use play action
- 20:19Speaker 5: to create larger passing windows to create catch and run opportunities.
- 20:24Speaker 5: Mac just taking ISO shots to Devonte Parker and Kendrick
- 20:27Speaker 5: Bourne is not going to create explosive plays for this offense.
- 20:30Speaker 5: So they need to figure out ways to create more
- 20:33Speaker 5: conflict in the defense. Because the defense isn't afraid of
- 20:36Speaker 5: your receivers, that's obvious, so they need to be afraid
- 20:39Speaker 5: of the scheme. And I think right now, you know, Paul,
- 20:42Speaker 5: just right off those stats about how much Mac has passed,
- 20:45Speaker 5: He's also passed the majority of the time and shotgun.
- 20:47Speaker 5: He's also leads a league in empty dropbacks. Like that's
- 20:50Speaker 5: their offense is just let's put Mac in the gun,
- 20:52Speaker 5: let them survey the field pre snap and make a
- 20:55Speaker 5: quick decisive decision with the football. But they just don't
- 20:58Speaker 5: have anybody special to then do anything with the ball
- 21:00Speaker 5: when he throws it to them. So it's five yards here,
- 21:02Speaker 5: it's six yards there, and then they're tackled.
- 21:04Speaker 9: The one I really like is Evan talking about how
- 21:07Speaker 9: they're running the ball, you know, like the schemes and
- 21:10Speaker 9: you know, would you say inside zones and whatnot, and
- 21:13Speaker 9: it's a muddied mess. I think you said because politely.
- 21:16Speaker 9: They don't want to be They don't want to be
- 21:18Speaker 9: leading the league in pass attempts. They don't that's not
- 21:21Speaker 9: how they want to play. So they have to figure
- 21:23Speaker 9: out a way to more efficiently run the ball. It's
- 21:26Speaker 9: it's pretty simple. They don't want to be leading the
- 21:28Speaker 9: league in pass attempts. They don't have that kind of
- 21:30Speaker 9: an offense.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 5: I have not gotten a good answer on two things
- 21:33Speaker 5: when it comes to the run game over the last
- 21:35Speaker 5: two years. One where did the full back go? And
- 21:39Speaker 5: why is this such a big vendetta against full backs? Now,
- 21:42Speaker 5: you had a full back for twenty years.
- 21:44Speaker 9: But now that I told you about this too, It's
- 21:46Speaker 9: like when Josh left, I had a conversation with someone
- 21:50Speaker 9: who excoriated Josh's need quote unquote for a fullback and
- 21:55Speaker 9: just went for ten minutes like, we don't we moving
- 22:00Speaker 9: on from that, we don't want that. And I just
- 22:02Speaker 9: looked at as like, well, well why, Yeah. They just
- 22:05Speaker 9: felt like it was too predicting. And this was not
- 22:08Speaker 9: a member of the coaching staff. Let me stress that
- 22:10Speaker 9: this was not a member of the coaching staff. It
- 22:12Speaker 9: was somebody who works for the Patriots football but not
- 22:15Speaker 9: a member of the coaching staff, and he just said,
- 22:18Speaker 9: there's too much of a predictor. You know, they just
- 22:20Speaker 9: felt like they were too predictable. When the fullback was
- 22:23Speaker 9: on the field, it was indicating run and it limited
- 22:26Speaker 9: what you could do. But I kind of think that
- 22:30Speaker 9: maybe you need to eliminate the full back wasn't necessarily accurate.
- 22:33Speaker 9: It was maybe to find a different kind of full back.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Yeah, one that can catch that.
- 22:37Speaker 4: They kind of eliminated the third down back two.
- 22:40Speaker 5: I don't know if that was on purpose.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that that Yeah, that wasn't definitely on purpose,
- 22:44Speaker 4: but they didn't do anything this year about it. I
- 22:46Speaker 4: mean time Ontcomery is a receiver, a guy.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Yeah, Pierre Strong, I think they tried to a touchdown.
- 22:50Speaker 4: You had a touchdown last night.
- 22:51Speaker 5: What happened to the full back?
- 22:53Speaker 6: Why?
- 22:53Speaker 5: Why are we anti full back all of a sudden
- 22:56Speaker 5: After running the ball behind a full back for twenty
- 22:57Speaker 5: years successfully, we now don't like full back? And what
- 23:01Speaker 5: happened to the gap schemes? Like so, duo is a
- 23:03Speaker 5: gap scheme, but it's a double team. You have two
- 23:06Speaker 5: double teams by on the interior. There's not really a
- 23:09Speaker 5: whole lot working up to the second level and duo
- 23:11Speaker 5: the second level. You're supposed to your running back is
- 23:14Speaker 5: supposed to manipulate the second level and make the linebacker miss.
- 23:18Speaker 5: But the Patriots old scheme was a downhill, gap oriented
- 23:22Speaker 5: run scheme where if you didn't have the fullback, you
- 23:25Speaker 5: were using pulling guards, so you'd have Shaq Mason pulling
- 23:28Speaker 5: through the whole, Joe Toney pulling through the hole and
- 23:31Speaker 5: leading the way for these running backs Mike Onnwenu in
- 23:34Speaker 5: twenty twenty one doing the same thing. They have gone
- 23:38Speaker 5: away from the downhill run scheme. They have gone away
- 23:41Speaker 5: from the full back to be this more spread offense,
- 23:44Speaker 5: and they don't have the personnel, Like I just really
- 23:46Speaker 5: don't feel like they have the personnel to do that effectively,
- 23:50Speaker 5: at least not yet. And I don't know why they
- 23:53Speaker 5: don't just go back to it, Like it's not like
- 23:54Speaker 5: O'Brien doesn't know how to coach it, like he knows
- 23:56Speaker 5: how to coach everything. I don't know why they had
- 23:59Speaker 5: to completely which that entire thing for what they're doing now,
- 24:02Speaker 5: which is just not working. Yeah, right period, Yeah, okay
- 24:09Speaker 5: for two years now.
- 24:10Speaker 1: It's I mean fair enough, you know, whatever they're doing, right,
- 24:13Speaker 1: now hasn't hasn't resulted in in a win, you know,
- 24:19Speaker 1: a win or like Paul said, you know explosive plays,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you know they what was it? The biggest play is
- 24:26Speaker 1: twenty two yards and said it happened.
- 24:29Speaker 9: I had a thirty two yard screen pass to Ormandri Stevenson,
- 24:32Speaker 9: which was when they were down two school they were
- 24:34Speaker 9: down eleven in the twelve whatever eleven maybe in the
- 24:37Speaker 9: fourth quarter of eleven.
- 24:39Speaker 8: I you know, one thing I just thought about for
- 24:41Speaker 8: the group maybe to consider you know Vic Fangio's thing,
- 24:44Speaker 8: cover two right, take away the big plays, I mean,
- 24:46Speaker 8: anything into that of why the Patriots weren't more aggressive downfield.
- 24:50Speaker 9: I thought that they took some shots and quite frankly,
- 24:52Speaker 9: I thought, you know, the more I watched the play,
- 24:56Speaker 9: I don't understand how Kendrick Bowne didn't catch that pass.
- 24:58Speaker 9: I thought that was a really good throw.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Mac me too.
- 25:01Speaker 9: On the first deep ball down the left sideline heading
- 25:05Speaker 9: toward the the opposite end of the lighthouse, it was
- 25:08Speaker 9: coming toward us in the press box. I thought that
- 25:10Speaker 9: he had a chance to make a play on that ball.
- 25:13Speaker 9: Inexplicably he only put one hand out.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Yeah, Eli Apple had his other arm, but kind of
- 25:19Speaker 5: you think, so he reached for it, but I I
- 25:22Speaker 5: think that a good risk. I shouldn't say that. A
- 25:25Speaker 5: better way to play that ball is to then just
- 25:28Speaker 5: like swipe Eli Apple's hand out of the way through
- 25:31Speaker 5: the contact and and then go up with two hands.
- 25:34Speaker 5: I thought that was a dime from I thought that
- 25:35Speaker 5: was a.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Really good throw. Now he had.
- 25:37Speaker 9: They made a couple of other efforts to get the
- 25:40Speaker 9: ball downfield, and they weren't necessarily like the one that
- 25:43Speaker 9: Kasiki was not necessarily by design. It turned into an
- 25:46Speaker 9: off platform play and he missed you. I thought he
- 25:49Speaker 9: had a chance to make a play there. He overshot him.
- 25:52Speaker 9: But the one to Bourne that that one in particular
- 25:54Speaker 9: he had another one to Bourne that had no chance
- 25:56Speaker 9: was like out a bound. I thought that took a
- 26:00Speaker 9: couple of shots. I thought they took a couple of
- 26:02Speaker 9: shots in the opener. They haven't been able to connect
- 26:04Speaker 9: on them.
- 26:05Speaker 4: I think interested in.
- 26:07Speaker 5: The shots that they're taking, like they're taking these ISO
- 26:09Speaker 5: shots to these outside receivers when they don't have the
- 26:13Speaker 5: outside receivers that make those plays. Now, DeVante Parker can
- 26:16Speaker 5: but not against Xavian Howard. He can't. You know, that's
- 26:19Speaker 5: been clear for two years, like he can do that
- 26:21Speaker 5: against lesser corners. But in general, what I was hoping
- 26:24Speaker 5: from this offense was that there was going to be
- 26:26Speaker 5: a whole lot more after the catch, Like they were
- 26:29Speaker 5: going to hit guys on slants and inbreakers with some
- 26:33Speaker 5: speed and allow those guys to then catch and run
- 26:35Speaker 5: with the football after the catch, and that's how you
- 26:38Speaker 5: were going to generate explosive plays. There's areas offensively. They've
- 26:42Speaker 5: been better on third down, they've been better in the
- 26:44Speaker 5: red zone, and I think Mac has been better too.
- 26:47Speaker 5: But they're not scoring enough points because they can't. They
- 26:50Speaker 5: don't have any explosive plays. They're five to seven scoring
- 26:53Speaker 5: in the red zone.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Red zone.
- 26:54Speaker 9: Yeah, this is my argument from last year. Everybody was
- 26:56Speaker 9: fixated on their last in the red zone and said, yeah,
- 26:59Speaker 9: that's the Obviously they're not scoring a percentage of time,
- 27:03Speaker 9: but the bigger problems they don't.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Get there enough.
- 27:05Speaker 5: They still don't get there and they still don't.
- 27:07Speaker 9: Get there enough. Now they're efficient in the red zone,
- 27:09Speaker 9: they're just not there often enough.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and last year they were actually scoring outside the
- 27:14Speaker 1: red zone. I mean Bill even said it, you know,
- 27:16Speaker 1: and scoring from anywhere. You know. Well, when they did score,
- 27:19Speaker 1: it was a lot of times it was from outside
- 27:21Speaker 1: of the red zone. You know. So they've got some
- 27:24Speaker 1: work to do on offense, for sure. And but I
- 27:28Speaker 1: will say at their point, I will say that to me,
- 27:32Speaker 1: my stance hasn't changed since the end of the game.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It starts with the O line. You know, it's hard
- 27:38Speaker 1: to judge everything else if Mac is constantly backpedaling and
- 27:42Speaker 1: has visitors in the batfield, you know.
- 27:46Speaker 9: And even you know, to you a point like this
- 27:48Speaker 9: is totally anecdotal. You know, I suppose you could do
- 27:51Speaker 9: a study and watch all the plays, but like.
- 27:54Speaker 5: If only we had somebody that does that.
- 27:55Speaker 9: No, but I'm but this is not scheme related. This
- 27:58Speaker 9: is just like you can watch a play and say,
- 28:00Speaker 9: like Mac is sort of throwing the ball off his
- 28:04Speaker 9: back foot. Occasionally he's throwing the ball while while moving backwards.
- 28:08Speaker 9: Like Fred said, well, the ball's hanging and because the
- 28:11Speaker 9: ball takes a little bit more time and some of
- 28:14Speaker 9: the passes are complete, some of those throws that he
- 28:16Speaker 9: made in the fourth quarter are just like, oh my god,
- 28:18Speaker 9: how is that not going to get intercepted? But the
- 28:20Speaker 9: the flip side of that is, yet some of them
- 28:22Speaker 9: are being completed and then the guy gets tackled immediately
- 28:25Speaker 9: you're looking for yak. Well, there's a reason you're not
- 28:27Speaker 9: getting yack. Not not just because your receivers aren't explosive.
- 28:31Speaker 9: It's because the balls taking them so long to get there.
- 28:33Speaker 9: Really through no fault of Mac, because he's under pressure
- 28:37Speaker 9: when he's throwing it, and he's throwing it before he
- 28:39Speaker 9: wants to, and it's on a guy and now you
- 28:41Speaker 9: know there's there's multiple guys there to make a tackle
- 28:44Speaker 9: before you can even get a chance to.
- 28:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I do any all that.
- 28:46Speaker 8: I do think I thought Mac had some good off
- 28:48Speaker 8: platform kind of throws. I thought he had some good
- 28:50Speaker 8: throws in this one with guys in his face getting
- 28:52Speaker 8: it out quick.
- 28:53Speaker 4: You know, I do think he's better this year. You know,
- 28:56Speaker 4: I don't.
- 28:56Speaker 8: I don't feel like we need to like blow him
- 28:58Speaker 8: up tomorrow like some that were writing to me. You know,
- 29:02Speaker 8: I mean, I'm not going to say I'm excited about
- 29:04Speaker 8: the offense right now for all the reasons you guys
- 29:05Speaker 8: are talking about. But I definitely see improvement in Mac.
- 29:09Speaker 8: And you know, I just I would like to see
- 29:10Speaker 8: him with a running game and you know, give him
- 29:12Speaker 8: some support. I just think, you know, so many people
- 29:15Speaker 8: are so apoplectic right now, and it's like, well, what
- 29:17Speaker 8: are the steps we can take right now to make
- 29:19Speaker 8: this better? And I think that that's tangible steps on
- 29:22Speaker 8: the offensive line. Get Trent brown Back. I don't I
- 29:24Speaker 8: don't know about right tackle though. I mean, I think
- 29:27Speaker 8: we can all agree Calvin.
- 29:29Speaker 9: And Calvin, well, yeah, you could make that move. Calvin
- 29:33Speaker 9: Anderson definitely struggled the other day. Do you think if
- 29:37Speaker 9: you know, short of making a move outside the organization
- 29:41Speaker 9: is there, do we revisit the one you think?
- 29:43Speaker 1: Right?
- 29:44Speaker 4: You know, could could Antonio Mafi be the right guard?
- 29:47Speaker 5: Antonio Mafi really struggled, Yeah, I mean he I think
- 29:51Speaker 5: he'd let up a sack on the second play he
- 29:53Speaker 5: was in the game, something like.
- 29:55Speaker 1: So becomes the right guard.
- 29:57Speaker 8: I mean possible. They're going to have to figure that
- 29:59Speaker 8: one out. I mean, I you know, I just think
- 30:01Speaker 8: if you get Trent brown Back and he plays up to,
- 30:03Speaker 8: you know, a solid level, and he was really good
- 30:05Speaker 8: in week one, you know, those the interior guys though,
- 30:07Speaker 8: that's you know, I think everybody's given a little bit
- 30:09Speaker 8: of a pass to some of the shortcomings in the
- 30:12Speaker 8: middle there in that game last week. But you know,
- 30:14Speaker 8: I think those things. I mean, you got he just
- 30:16Speaker 8: you absolutely have to be able to rely on strange
- 30:18Speaker 8: Andrews and the WHENU and you know, I don't think
- 30:21Speaker 8: it was there just yet.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I trashed Mac last week. Everybody knows that. I
- 30:25Speaker 5: thought he was better in this game than he was
- 30:27Speaker 5: last week.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Oh, I do too. I thought he was under more pressure.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought he handled pressure well. I thought he
- 30:33Speaker 5: made some off platform on the move type of plays
- 30:36Speaker 5: that he doesn't normally make. And I thought that his
- 30:39Speaker 5: footwork was better in the pocket. From start to finish
- 30:41Speaker 5: in this game, I thought he was ready to play.
- 30:43Speaker 5: He looked like he was ready to go, and he
- 30:45Speaker 5: actually made some plays later in the game in this
- 30:48Speaker 5: in the fourth quarter to get them back in it
- 30:50Speaker 5: that I've never seen the make before. That throat touchdown
- 30:52Speaker 5: through to Hunter Henry. I have never seen Mac Jones
- 30:54Speaker 5: make a play like that before.
- 30:55Speaker 9: Yeah, I'll play the Evan role in the whip like it.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I hated that play. I don't want to ever see
- 31:02Speaker 4: that again.
- 31:03Speaker 9: See I mean, like, but here's that made me a
- 31:05Speaker 9: scared me and I talked a little bit to Zoe
- 31:08Speaker 9: about it yesterday on the broadcast, goes no, no, and
- 31:12Speaker 9: I said, so, I'm just gonna guess that you were
- 31:15Speaker 9: with me, and he said absolutely. It was the role
- 31:17Speaker 9: throw across the body. He can't do that, especially in
- 31:21Speaker 9: the end zone.
- 31:21Speaker 5: But but he did it off script like that wasn't
- 31:25Speaker 5: I know that's right, that's no.
- 31:26Speaker 4: No, I know we can't.
- 31:28Speaker 5: I'm not saying that you do this, but like this,
- 31:30Speaker 5: this this irks me because we can't sit here and
- 31:33Speaker 5: put Patrick Mahomes in the Sports Center Top ten every
- 31:36Speaker 5: single time he does that. But when Mac Jones does it,
- 31:38Speaker 5: sit there and say oh no, no, no, no, can't do that, like.
- 31:41Speaker 9: Oh, I think you absolutely can. There's a skill set
- 31:44Speaker 9: that's far. But he Josh Allen, but he he made
- 31:47Speaker 9: that throw a lot better than I think any of
- 31:50Speaker 9: us expected mac Jones to make it.
- 31:52Speaker 4: I just think it was just so close.
- 31:54Speaker 5: But that's how.
- 31:57Speaker 4: I don't want to see it again.
- 31:58Speaker 9: I think Alan like because I think that those guys
- 32:01Speaker 9: more often than not have the arm strength to get
- 32:03Speaker 9: the ball where it needs to go.
- 32:04Speaker 4: Mac doesn't.
- 32:06Speaker 5: But what if it's better, what if he's improved in
- 32:09Speaker 5: that area.
- 32:09Speaker 9: Then then I'll say, Okay, he can now make that throw.
- 32:12Speaker 9: I've seen him make that throw about ten times in
- 32:14Speaker 9: his time as the Patriots. That's the first time it
- 32:16Speaker 9: was completed. If he's going to like I literally have
- 32:19Speaker 9: seen that ball be picked off about four times, is.
- 32:22Speaker 5: That if he's going to see that to his repertoire,
- 32:25Speaker 5: they need him to add that type of playmate.
- 32:27Speaker 9: That's a different argument. If you're telling me he has
- 32:28Speaker 9: a skill set now that he's developed that he didn't have.
- 32:31Speaker 9: I'll be willing to revisit. Absolutely, I'm stubborn, but not
- 32:34Speaker 9: that stubborn.
- 32:35Speaker 5: I appreciate that, all right.
- 32:38Speaker 1: So we're going to open it up. Eight five to five.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Pass five hundred is the ace ticket. Hutline web radio
- 32:42Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address for focusing
- 32:45Speaker 1: on the game passed. We'll get into the Jets tomorrow
- 32:50Speaker 1: when we turn the page Wednesday. But of course, if
- 32:53Speaker 1: you know there's something you on your mind that you
- 32:56Speaker 1: want to talk about with the Jets game against the Cowboys,
- 32:59Speaker 1: you can you can bring that up any indicators that
- 33:01Speaker 1: you saw. But you know, I think the Jets are
- 33:05Speaker 1: what they are, a good defense with no offense.
- 33:07Speaker 8: Well, I mean I you know, I think Breessee Hall.
- 33:10Speaker 8: I mean, not to get into it, but I think
- 33:11Speaker 8: that this is a threatening running game. Given what I
- 33:14Speaker 8: saw from the Patriots defensive front last week, I think
- 33:17Speaker 8: I have some concerns about that.
- 33:18Speaker 4: I also would just say.
- 33:19Speaker 1: He was mad by the way he wanted the ball
- 33:22Speaker 1: more and so you know, you got holing Cook.
- 33:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 33:24Speaker 8: I mean, I haven't really dove into that game how
- 33:26Speaker 8: they were so you know, unproductive, but.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Yeah, that part, that part scares me.
- 33:32Speaker 8: But I also think, like, you know, can we just
- 33:34Speaker 8: can I just give a little credit to Miami. I
- 33:35Speaker 8: just going back watching I thought Miami's outstanding offense, Like
- 33:38Speaker 8: they're just.
- 33:39Speaker 4: They're really good, you know, and that's it's just like,
- 33:42Speaker 4: what what do you do?
- 33:43Speaker 8: Like, I know, everyone you know wants the defense to
- 33:45Speaker 8: be this shutdown, awesome defense. But you know, sometimes you
- 33:48Speaker 8: just have to acknowledge that this is a team that
- 33:50Speaker 8: is firing on all cylinders right now here in Week two,
- 33:53Speaker 8: and they're really hard to defend, you know, and certainly
- 33:55Speaker 8: the Patriots defense has some shortcomings, but you know, you
- 33:58Speaker 8: just have to acknowledge when a team is really well
- 34:00Speaker 8: coached and has a lot of really good players, and
- 34:03Speaker 8: you know it's it's you have a very slim margin
- 34:04Speaker 8: for err no matter what.
- 34:05Speaker 5: I have grievances with the defense too, But I agree
- 34:08Speaker 5: with Mike's general point.
- 34:09Speaker 1: But yeah, but I.
- 34:11Speaker 9: Still but my grievances would be the same as they've
- 34:13Speaker 9: been for the last two plus years. When they play
- 34:16Speaker 9: against a good offense, that's generally what it looks.
- 34:18Speaker 5: Yeah, they were chasing it the whole night. Yeah, they
- 34:21Speaker 5: looked like they were in a blender.
- 34:22Speaker 9: That the the the optimism that I took out of
- 34:26Speaker 9: Week one going against a good offense completely disappeared in
- 34:30Speaker 9: this one. Ycause that's what I agree, that's what I've
- 34:32Speaker 9: seen for the most part. Now it's one game. Hopefully
- 34:35Speaker 9: they'll bounce back. They'll face more good offenses down the road.
- 34:38Speaker 9: Now they won't. It won't be won this week. This
- 34:40Speaker 9: would be one. I expect them to hold the team
- 34:42Speaker 9: under two hundred total yards because that's what they do.
- 34:44Speaker 5: They mad it was offense fantastic. McDaniel called a fantastic game.
- 34:50Speaker 5: He he had a great plan and he called a
- 34:52Speaker 5: really good game. He he had to have known going
- 34:54Speaker 5: into the game that Belichick wasn't going to give him
- 34:57Speaker 5: the big plays, and they had all sorts of window
- 34:59Speaker 5: dress seeing sideline to sideline stuff, and they just got
- 35:03Speaker 5: the Patriots defense trying to run with them sideline to
- 35:06Speaker 5: sideline instead of up the field. And it was a really,
- 35:08Speaker 5: really good plan. But there's just too many instances for
- 35:11Speaker 5: the Patriots defense where their overreactions to motions and eye
- 35:16Speaker 5: candy was was really bad. Their eye discipline was all
- 35:19Speaker 5: over the place. And then you just have certain guys
- 35:21Speaker 5: that I just I still can't really understand why in
- 35:25Speaker 5: these matchups, when you know you're going against these fast offenses,
- 35:29Speaker 5: why certain guys are in certain spots that that's also
- 35:32Speaker 5: you know, something that is a little bit heads.
- 35:34Speaker 9: I want to get into that a little bit later
- 35:35Speaker 9: in the show. I would also add, you know, the defensively,
- 35:39Speaker 9: like you said, you know that with Breis Hall, I
- 35:42Speaker 9: respect the Jets running game.
- 35:43Speaker 6: I do.
- 35:44Speaker 9: I think both of those guys are dangerous. I don't
- 35:47Speaker 9: think I'm worried about the run defense based on Sunday Night,
- 35:51Speaker 9: because I don't think I think that was more scheme
- 35:54Speaker 9: related not and I don't say straight up game. I'm
- 35:57Speaker 9: not taking it to Patriots fans. They wanted them to
- 35:59Speaker 9: run that was the game. No, they didn't want to
- 36:02Speaker 9: play as poorly as they did upfront. They didn't play
- 36:04Speaker 9: well up front, but they asked fewer guys to stop
- 36:09Speaker 9: the run than they're going to this week against the
- 36:11Speaker 9: Jets because of obvious reasons. You know the way that
- 36:14Speaker 9: Miami can hurt you, right, So they asked a lighter
- 36:17Speaker 9: box to take care of the running game and they failed.
- 36:20Speaker 9: They Now the guys that failed are going to be
- 36:22Speaker 9: the guys that are out there too. You know it's
- 36:24Speaker 9: the you mentioned, it's the wise bar More, gotcha. I
- 36:28Speaker 9: know it was in the crosshairs for some people. Those
- 36:31Speaker 9: guys are going to need to play better against the Jets.
- 36:33Speaker 9: But there's not going to be the same game plan
- 36:35Speaker 9: that you saw against Miami. They're going to have more
- 36:36Speaker 9: guys up front, the safeties are going to be bringing wood.
- 36:40Speaker 9: They If they have a hard time stopping the run
- 36:45Speaker 9: this week, then I think you can be concerned about
- 36:46Speaker 9: run defense.
- 36:47Speaker 10: I wouldn't even be surprised if the Jets like lean
- 36:49Speaker 10: on the run a lot just to like limit That's.
- 36:52Speaker 4: All the can we talk about bar More? Because I
- 36:56Speaker 4: just am not feeling him that this game, Like I
- 36:59Speaker 4: just I might my cost. My comp to Evan.
- 37:03Speaker 8: My comp to Evan upstairs was he's Adam Butler, you know,
- 37:05Speaker 8: and I don't think that's what anybody wants right now,
- 37:07Speaker 8: and nobody wants him to just kind of be a
- 37:09Speaker 8: situational pass rusher guy.
- 37:11Speaker 4: But that's who I mean. He had won tackle in
- 37:12Speaker 4: the game. He missed a couple of tackles.
- 37:14Speaker 8: He just seems like he's got all this energy, but
- 37:16Speaker 8: he doesn't know to go to the right spot to
- 37:18Speaker 8: make the play. And you know, I'm just I'm disappointed,
- 37:22Speaker 8: you know, I just I watched him. I mentioned him
- 37:25Speaker 8: as a guy that you know needs to be able
- 37:26Speaker 8: to get in the backfield. Paul, you mentioned about how
- 37:28Speaker 8: fast Tua gets the ball out.
- 37:30Speaker 4: You know, there has to be a way to disrupt
- 37:32Speaker 4: the quarterback. I mean, talking to Covington.
- 37:34Speaker 8: Last week, it's like, no matter who we play, we
- 37:36Speaker 8: have to find a way to.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Disrupt the quarterback.
- 37:39Speaker 8: And even if two was getting the ball out in
- 37:40Speaker 8: two seconds, there has to be a way to get
- 37:43Speaker 8: at least him. And they did it on a couple
- 37:45Speaker 8: of plays where you know, it was like a late
- 37:47Speaker 8: shift kind of thing. Somebody comes, somebody doesn't offensive line
- 37:50Speaker 8: is a little bit uncertain, and it forced Two to
- 37:52Speaker 8: make a quick, bad throw not obviously not enough.
- 37:54Speaker 4: I think what he had like six and completions old game.
- 37:56Speaker 4: But I just bar Moore is one.
- 37:58Speaker 8: I am really disappointed and why again, he just doesn't
- 38:00Speaker 8: He's just he looks like Adam Butler to me.
- 38:02Speaker 4: He's got all this energy, but not really that productive.
- 38:05Speaker 5: I thought that the lack of pass rush was more
- 38:07Speaker 5: on the secondary and the game plan than the actual
- 38:10Speaker 5: I am confident that the Patriots have good pass rushers.
- 38:14Speaker 5: That's one of the things that I think that we
- 38:16Speaker 5: can all say, Judean ouch Uh. Those guys can get
- 38:20Speaker 5: after the quarterback. We saw that in Week one. I
- 38:22Speaker 5: think they can do that. They were terrified of Miami's speed.
- 38:27Speaker 5: They just worked. They were terrified of Miami's speed. They
- 38:30Speaker 5: came out in that three deep safety look and they
- 38:33Speaker 5: were eight yards off the ball in the entire game,
- 38:35Speaker 5: and there just wasn't enough resistance on the receivers underneath
- 38:39Speaker 5: off the line of scrimmage. And if you don't jam
- 38:42Speaker 5: those types of guys, if you don't disrupt the routes
- 38:44Speaker 5: and the timing of the routes, then two is going
- 38:46Speaker 5: to get the ball out in two seconds, and that's
- 38:48Speaker 5: what happened.
- 38:49Speaker 9: And I thought it was weird, Like the Dietrich wise
- 38:52Speaker 9: comment about you know, someone asked him about being and
- 38:55Speaker 9: five against two and he's done nothing special against us.
- 38:58Speaker 9: I'm paraphrasing the words special not special. Was definitely part
- 39:02Speaker 9: of what he said. He's done nothing special or he's
- 39:05Speaker 9: he's not doing anything special. You know, stuff like that,
- 39:08Speaker 9: which I find really odd because have they ever made
- 39:13Speaker 9: to I mean, the five games that they want. You
- 39:15Speaker 9: could make an argument that Tua didn't win any of
- 39:17Speaker 9: the five games. I would argue against that, but you
- 39:20Speaker 9: could make the argument that Tua himself didn't go out
- 39:23Speaker 9: and rip them apart in any of the five wins.
- 39:25Speaker 9: Did they ever make Tua look bad in any of
- 39:27Speaker 9: the five games?
- 39:28Speaker 5: No, not even when Brian Flores was the interception they
- 39:33Speaker 5: got here.
- 39:34Speaker 6: No, No, I'm not.
- 39:35Speaker 9: Talking about he never made a bad play. But did
- 39:37Speaker 9: they ever make him look bad? Like on Sunday? He
- 39:41Speaker 9: never looked bad for one second of that game.
- 39:43Speaker 10: Noe, Like he didn't like I feel like Jalen Hurts
- 39:45Speaker 10: stuff only was like uncomfortable and like.
- 39:47Speaker 9: Yeah, he had some things to be perfect perfect example
- 39:51Speaker 9: they had. They had Jalen Hurts off his game the
- 39:54Speaker 9: for the most part of in that game I never
- 39:56Speaker 9: saw I don't really remember even like the the interception
- 40:00Speaker 9: and he like the whole game, he said, we're not
- 40:04Speaker 9: going to do that. We're not going to take that's
- 40:06Speaker 9: what they want us to do. That's what And then
- 40:08Speaker 9: finally he's ten yards in the clear and he says,
- 40:11Speaker 9: there it is.
- 40:11Speaker 4: I got one.
- 40:12Speaker 9: And Gonzales, well, first of all, he made a terrible throw.
- 40:15Speaker 9: But Gonzalez makes a great play to come over and
- 40:18Speaker 9: high point.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Can't just give him Gonzales a compliment?
- 40:21Speaker 4: Did you hear me on Gonzales during the game on
- 40:24Speaker 4: it was a terrible throw?
- 40:25Speaker 9: Absolutely, What did I say during the game, Don't don't
- 40:29Speaker 9: be disingenuous, you just say it like a big man.
- 40:32Speaker 9: And what did I say about Gonzales, It was a
- 40:34Speaker 9: great play by Gonzales.
- 40:36Speaker 4: You can't get me on him.
- 40:37Speaker 9: He's my guy, He's barbar was also my guy and
- 40:41Speaker 9: misparing to Adam Butler.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Gonzales in this game was my shining light. Gonzales was
- 40:46Speaker 5: going out there and going toe to toe with Tyreek
- 40:49Speaker 5: kill that that was a really, really good performance. He
- 40:53Speaker 5: had safety help a lot, So just a really really
- 40:56Speaker 5: good performance.
- 40:56Speaker 9: To circle back, I'll put a bowl on the interception
- 40:59Speaker 9: in the same exact play could happen with the same
- 41:01Speaker 9: exact bad throw, and Miles Bryant is the guy who
- 41:05Speaker 9: recognizes as it goes over plays it exactly like Gonzalez does.
- 41:08Speaker 9: He doesn't pick it off. Yeah, he doesn't high point
- 41:11Speaker 9: the ball like that. No, Like he's a six to
- 41:13Speaker 9: two athlete who went up with another athlete and won
- 41:17Speaker 9: the battle like that's because he's that talented.
- 41:19Speaker 5: That was one of the most him I've seen a
- 41:22Speaker 5: Patriot player make in like three years. Just here athleticism.
- 41:26Speaker 5: He was great.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Am I crazy to kind of like Myles Bryant now.
- 41:30Speaker 9: Based on that game a little bit, if you want
- 41:33Speaker 9: to give me some Miles Bryant.
- 41:35Speaker 4: Off the Eagles game.
- 41:36Speaker 9: Eagles game, I'm here. He made one good play in
- 41:39Speaker 9: that game. He chopped that guy down. I mean he's
- 41:43Speaker 9: thirty five yards on the sideline.
- 41:44Speaker 4: That's a tough play. That's a tough play to Jalen Waddell.
- 41:47Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 41:48Speaker 8: I just I think I think he plays tough, and
- 41:50Speaker 8: I think he's had his ups and downs and he's
- 41:51Speaker 8: you know, went up against Jayalen Waddle, and Jayalen Waddle
- 41:53Speaker 8: went up and made a catch over I'm sure I
- 41:56Speaker 8: don't know I.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Go up and make a catch over him. He ran
- 41:58Speaker 4: by him.
- 41:59Speaker 5: We kind of jumped up in it was an underthrown.
- 42:01Speaker 9: Thank you, But I'm saying it was good play.
- 42:05Speaker 4: I'm just saying I think I like how he's giving.
- 42:09Speaker 9: The stiff that when he's used correctly, he's he can be.
- 42:15Speaker 5: Really to me, Miles Bryant is like the equivalent of
- 42:19Speaker 5: like a utility man in baseball, where he just can
- 42:22Speaker 5: kind of move around the secondary and play where you
- 42:24Speaker 5: need him to play. And they're the perfect coaching staff
- 42:27Speaker 5: to protect that type of player. The fact that John
- 42:30Speaker 5: Jones and Marcus Jones gets hurt in like the first
- 42:32Speaker 5: quarter and they have to put Miles Bryan on Jalen
- 42:34Speaker 5: Waddle isn't Miles Bryant's fault. Like they had injuries at
- 42:37Speaker 5: the cornerback position and they were thin. That wasn't the
- 42:41Speaker 5: plan going into the game to have Miles Bryan on
- 42:43Speaker 5: an island against Jalen Waddle.
- 42:44Speaker 9: And I'll say one more thing about the defense in general.
- 42:47Speaker 9: Freddie before I know you want to hit those phones.
- 42:49Speaker 9: Tackling was not good, not this game, not as good
- 42:52Speaker 9: as Week one.
- 42:53Speaker 5: They missed eight tackles, but the tackles that they missed
- 42:58Speaker 5: then for some reason lead to like really big plays,
- 43:01Speaker 5: Like they didn't swarm to the football in this game
- 43:04Speaker 5: like they did in Week one, which I thought was
- 43:06Speaker 5: maybe the most disappointing.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Daniels might have had a more spread out and there's
- 43:09Speaker 1: more speed on that team, you know.
- 43:11Speaker 4: I just.
- 43:14Speaker 5: When when Jabriel Peppers misses a tackle in the backfield
- 43:17Speaker 5: and then that run still gain gains eight yards like that,
- 43:20Speaker 5: that to me is pursuit and like hustle to the football.
- 43:23Speaker 8: I was disappointed Juwan Bentley in this game, and I
- 43:25Speaker 8: feel like I annually have one of those games where
- 43:27Speaker 8: I kind of, you know, see what he's limited at
- 43:30Speaker 8: in games that he's limited in. I just I think
- 43:33Speaker 8: he was, like Evan said, chasing it all night long.
- 43:36Speaker 8: Just couldn't couldn't get ahead of the play, couldn't make
- 43:38Speaker 8: those stops that you know, we're kind of used to
- 43:40Speaker 8: him saying. I hope he needs to have a big
- 43:41Speaker 8: game coming back, But I just that I worry about
- 43:46Speaker 8: the veterans up front right now.
- 43:47Speaker 4: That's you know, those guys.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Was just to put in a in a bad spot personally,
- 43:53Speaker 5: I think by the coaches and he's trying to cover
- 43:56Speaker 5: the flats and stuff like that, and they're putting him
- 43:58Speaker 5: in conflict, and well, it just what are we doing?
- 44:00Speaker 1: Would you say? But because of the threats that the
- 44:04Speaker 1: Miami offense posed and the way that the Patriots game
- 44:08Speaker 1: plan defensively for that, it wasn't a good game for
- 44:12Speaker 1: instinctual play on defense because there was so much that
- 44:15Speaker 1: you had to like remember on every play depending on
- 44:19Speaker 1: the look that you were being given.
- 44:20Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know, Fred, because I mean, if
- 44:22Speaker 8: you're going to come out in you know, a kind
- 44:24Speaker 8: of what three high look where they're all in the
- 44:27Speaker 8: middle of the field and then you kind of roll
- 44:28Speaker 8: the dice out of that, you have to know that
- 44:30Speaker 8: they're gonna then hit the checkdowns and run the ball.
- 44:33Speaker 8: And you know, I don't know what they were doing
- 44:35Speaker 8: in the run game that really should have thrown off
- 44:37Speaker 8: the defensive front all that much. Like you know, I mean,
- 44:40Speaker 8: it's I think some of it was just getting pushed
- 44:43Speaker 8: around a little bit with with those big boys up front.
- 44:45Speaker 8: I don't know with Bentley, I don't know, I don't
- 44:47Speaker 8: know what to tell you where where his mind was
- 44:49Speaker 8: in this, But you know, it's just it's not like
- 44:51Speaker 8: they're they're have all this crazy motion with their run game.
- 44:54Speaker 4: I mean a lot of times it's just they're just
- 44:55Speaker 4: running the zone.
- 44:56Speaker 5: Like they run a lot. They run a lot of
- 44:59Speaker 5: blockers in from the edges, and they have really good
- 45:01Speaker 5: job of Shanahan's great at this too, of setting up
- 45:04Speaker 5: angles for blockers, so like they don't have tight ends.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Just like take Jawan Bentley square right, They'll have him
- 45:10Speaker 5: come from like an angle and that allows him to
- 45:13Speaker 5: leverage the block a little bit easier. They're really good
- 45:15Speaker 5: at that in the Shanahan tree. But in general, with
- 45:18Speaker 5: the running game and just with the whole offense, I
- 45:20Speaker 5: thought that they were way over reactionary to some of
- 45:24Speaker 5: the motions and the different type of things that Miami
- 45:26Speaker 5: does with the window dressing and instead of just playing
- 45:29Speaker 5: your assignment and playing downhill in the run game, they
- 45:33Speaker 5: were worried about Okay, you know, now Tyreek's going in motion,
- 45:37Speaker 5: and a lot of the plays that they hit off
- 45:39Speaker 5: of the motions weren't to the person that went in motion.
- 45:43Speaker 5: They were sending tyreek on those wheel motions, and then
- 45:46Speaker 5: two guys were jumping him and it was leaving what
- 45:49Speaker 5: you know, the guy openings in the middle of the
- 45:51Speaker 5: field or underneath when everybody is looking over at number ten.
- 45:55Speaker 5: And I thought in the running game too, they're running
- 45:57Speaker 5: these like split flows and the tight ends are coming
- 45:59Speaker 5: up across or they're inserting, and everybody is just flowing
- 46:03Speaker 5: to the movement and it's leaving holes other places for
- 46:06Speaker 5: cutbacks and things like that. And it it just to
- 46:09Speaker 5: me this was a really poor game in for the
- 46:12Speaker 5: defense in terms of I discipline, like knowing where your
- 46:15Speaker 5: eyes are supposed to be and not getting lurd out
- 46:17Speaker 5: of gaps and Lord out of space.
- 46:19Speaker 8: I saw some plays though out of map who are
- 46:21Speaker 8: not many, maybe one or two, but just that seemed
- 46:23Speaker 8: to me like he was seeing it better, at least
- 46:25Speaker 8: from a few snaps that linebacker a little bit he had.
- 46:28Speaker 4: You know, It's just.
- 46:29Speaker 8: It's it's hard when you can't see you know, Bentley
- 46:31Speaker 8: defeat a block and you know then you see map
- 46:33Speaker 8: who just kind of you know, just get around to
- 46:36Speaker 8: guy using yeah, like running around blocks, you know that,
- 46:41Speaker 8: and so you know, you talk about the rookies intriguing
- 46:44Speaker 8: you a little bit that intriguing with map who I
- 46:46Speaker 8: still feel like White is he needs to understand how
- 46:50Speaker 8: to play within the defense. I think he's got a
- 46:51Speaker 8: lot of and I wanted to I'm glad you brought
- 46:54Speaker 8: White up.
- 46:56Speaker 9: Did you guys see like, did he take us? You know,
- 46:58Speaker 9: I don't want to say a step back, but was
- 47:00Speaker 9: quiet in this game?
- 47:00Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah he was?
- 47:01Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 47:01Speaker 4: I think so he made the game.
- 47:04Speaker 5: He made one play where and this is one of
- 47:07Speaker 5: the frustrating, uh you know plays in terms of the tackling.
- 47:11Speaker 5: He they ran like a zone sweep and to a
- 47:15Speaker 5: the snap is over to his head, so the ball
- 47:18Speaker 5: goes over to his head. Tua has to catch the
- 47:21Speaker 5: high snap and he hands it to the running back
- 47:23Speaker 5: and Keon White presses the guard ten yards into the backfield.
- 47:27Speaker 5: Those two things both happened, and the run still gains
- 47:30Speaker 5: seven yards. Ye, so Godshow had him the back initially,
- 47:35Speaker 5: but it's Godshow with all this space and you have
- 47:37Speaker 5: this three hundred and thirty pound nose tackle trying to
- 47:40Speaker 5: chase the chicken with all this space to go in
- 47:42Speaker 5: sideline to sideline. He whiffs on him and then there's
- 47:45Speaker 5: just nobody else, and he and the back ends up
- 47:48Speaker 5: gaining on a play that should have been a four
- 47:50Speaker 5: yard loss.
- 47:51Speaker 4: They gave up seven yards exactly. That's exactly what I'm
- 47:54Speaker 4: talking about.
- 47:55Speaker 11: You know.
- 47:55Speaker 8: It's just like he's all power. He can push the
- 47:57Speaker 8: guard ten yards in the backfield. But now he's disrupted
- 48:00Speaker 8: the integrity of the defense and it turns into a
- 48:01Speaker 8: big game. So I think he's going to be really good.
- 48:04Speaker 8: I just you know, it's it's that awareness of you know, knowing.
- 48:06Speaker 9: I wasn't saying that, like, oh, I'm really disappointed in
- 48:09Speaker 9: Keon White. I just was saying I didn't really notice
- 48:11Speaker 9: him much in this game.
- 48:12Speaker 4: Was he quiet? Was he blocked?
- 48:13Speaker 8: But you know, so you guys are get I mean
- 48:14Speaker 8: he did draw the draw the hold, right, Yeah.
- 48:17Speaker 5: I drew trying to backdoor his own plays.
- 48:20Speaker 4: It's I'd love to see him play more. I mean,
- 48:21Speaker 4: I think that's that's him. Just get him on the
- 48:23Speaker 4: field more, get him more experience.
- 48:24Speaker 1: You'll get more experienced. Eight five five pass five hundred
- 48:27Speaker 1: is the a ticket hout.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Line trying to bring it back positive.
- 48:30Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he'll get more experience.
- 48:32Speaker 8: No listen, I'm I'm good with You got to be
- 48:35Speaker 8: positive about those three trios the least of the problems
- 48:38Speaker 8: right now, Can you.
- 48:39Speaker 9: Just tell you they have about forty eight least of
- 48:41Speaker 9: the problems, but they're going too.
- 48:43Speaker 8: If they had just hit three offensive picks last draft,
- 48:46Speaker 8: and you know, now we got three defensive picks, like
- 48:48Speaker 8: we would really be cooking.
- 48:49Speaker 5: Can we just use Marty mop who correctly? Please one time.
- 48:53Speaker 10: I definitely think to your point, Mike, they're paying the
- 48:55Speaker 10: price for bad draft class and also bad free agencies.
- 48:59Speaker 10: Were you pick these players who, like I keep saying,
- 49:01Speaker 10: are off brand, they're not good enough, and now you're paying.
- 49:04Speaker 5: The price for it.
- 49:05Speaker 10: And it's unfortunately now it's like they just have to
- 49:07Speaker 10: control they can control and do the best with what
- 49:09Speaker 10: they have.
- 49:09Speaker 4: Godshaw's the tough one. I mean, I think they've had
- 49:11Speaker 4: some hits.
- 49:11Speaker 8: I mean, Hunter Henry right now is resurgent, and I mean,
- 49:14Speaker 8: you just I can't imagine this offense without Hunter Henry
- 49:16Speaker 8: right now. But you know, it's just it's God Shot,
- 49:19Speaker 8: it's too much of the up and down with him,
- 49:21Speaker 8: you know. And I just I think, as I you know,
- 49:23Speaker 8: if I do look put my eye towards the future,
- 49:25Speaker 8: I feel like you.
- 49:26Speaker 4: Need a guy in the middle.
- 49:27Speaker 8: You need a big body, a big, dominant kind of
- 49:29Speaker 8: player in the middle.
- 49:30Speaker 4: I just look at it.
- 49:30Speaker 9: It's like, you know the guys you're picking, right, So
- 49:34Speaker 9: you you take Godshaw as one of the free agents
- 49:36Speaker 9: and you give him some money, then you re up him,
- 49:38Speaker 9: and then you still take a Godshaw type player.
- 49:41Speaker 4: In the second round. And I'm not saying ke On
- 49:43Speaker 4: White's bad.
- 49:44Speaker 9: I like Keon Wahite, no, you know, but I just
- 49:49Speaker 9: might they have been better off you know, taking a tackle.
- 49:52Speaker 5: Oh, you mean, spreading out the assets to both sides
- 49:54Speaker 5: of the football.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Right, So this is.
- 49:56Speaker 5: Like from a big picture standpoint, they they're close to
- 50:01Speaker 5: what their vision of winning games is. They want to
- 50:04Speaker 5: win the game on defense.
- 50:05Speaker 9: No, they want they want to be tough against the run,
- 50:09Speaker 9: and they want to you know, make plays on special teams.
- 50:11Speaker 9: And you know, here we go super Bowl, Right, So
- 50:13Speaker 9: that doesn't work that way anymore in this league.
- 50:15Speaker 12: Right.
- 50:15Speaker 5: And they've held two really good offenses to twenty five
- 50:19Speaker 5: and twenty four points and twenty five of those you
- 50:21Speaker 5: know it was really eighteen.
- 50:22Speaker 9: Yeah, for I would say absolutely check week one, not check.
- 50:26Speaker 5: I don't disagree, But in terms of the actual outcome
- 50:29Speaker 5: of the game, of the points that Miami scored, they
- 50:31Speaker 5: scored twenty four. That should be in theory a winnable
- 50:35Speaker 5: game for the Patriots still only give up twenty four
- 50:37Speaker 5: points against an offense that scored thirty six the week before.
- 50:40Speaker 5: But I think what it all boils down to, which
- 50:43Speaker 5: is what we've talked to about a ton in the
- 50:45Speaker 5: fourth quarter of these games, is that because they've used
- 50:49Speaker 5: all of these assets to bolster the defense to try
- 50:51Speaker 5: to win this way of you know, in the twenties,
- 50:54Speaker 5: with great defense and all this type of stuff, they
- 50:56Speaker 5: don't have players to make plays offensively when the when
- 50:59Speaker 5: the car are down in the fourth quarter. So now
- 51:02Speaker 5: you run into a situation where they're competitive in these
- 51:05Speaker 5: games because their defense is good, but they're not winning
- 51:08Speaker 5: games because they don't have enough on offense. But they
- 51:11Speaker 5: use all the resources on defense. Like all your top
- 51:14Speaker 5: three draft picks are on defense. Your highest played player
- 51:16Speaker 5: on the team is a defensive player. It's Matthew Judon.
- 51:19Speaker 5: And at like what point do you have to look
- 51:21Speaker 5: at it and say, well, we still need to score,
- 51:24Speaker 5: like period, Like we can't win these We're not gonna
- 51:26Speaker 5: win seventeen to fourteen against a team like Miami.
- 51:29Speaker 4: But against a team like the Jets, you might.
- 51:32Speaker 1: You might get that one week reprieve.
- 51:34Speaker 4: Right, this is gonna be Bill's favorite game of the year.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Let's go to Anthony and Seattle. What's up, Anthony, Hey,
- 51:41Speaker 1: what's up? Right?
- 51:42Speaker 13: What's up my people?
- 51:43Speaker 1: Anthony?
- 51:45Speaker 13: Hey, I'm gonna be stubborn. I'm gonna hold out a
- 51:47Speaker 13: hope on my prediction. And uh, at least for just
- 51:50Speaker 13: two more games. Well, really, one more game. If we
- 51:52Speaker 13: lose to the Jets, it's over. If we lose to
- 51:55Speaker 13: the Jets and then we lose to the If we
- 51:57Speaker 13: beat the Jets and then we lose to the Cowboys,
- 52:00Speaker 13: over because you just can't be good teams. And but
- 52:03Speaker 13: I want to go off my test and and then
- 52:08Speaker 13: I'm gonna get.
- 52:09Speaker 14: Out of you guys, out of your hair.
- 52:10Speaker 13: But okay, we got Paul there and Evan there. So
- 52:14Speaker 13: Paul I saw a little bit of the teflon Mac
- 52:16Speaker 13: thing uh after this game, and you know what I
- 52:22Speaker 13: get it.
- 52:22Speaker 14: You know, I heard a whole lot of the you know, uh,
- 52:26Speaker 14: you know, we need wide receivers and we need you know,
- 52:30Speaker 14: uh uh uh offensive line.
- 52:32Speaker 13: And we got to run the ball better, and yeah.
- 52:36Speaker 14: You need all those things because he's not good enough,
- 52:40Speaker 14: Like you've got to surround him with all of that.
- 52:43Speaker 13: It's too hard, you know. And I get he's a
- 52:45Speaker 13: good kid. He works hard, he tries hard, so it's
- 52:47Speaker 13: it's you know, he says and does all the right things,
- 52:49Speaker 13: so it's easy to say, like, oh, it's not on him.
- 52:53Speaker 13: It's not his fault that he's not talented enough to
- 52:56Speaker 13: overcome some of that stuff.
- 52:58Speaker 9: Yeah, I would say that that that apps is happening
- 53:01Speaker 9: right now, But I don't think this is a Teflon
- 53:03Speaker 9: Mac game, like and I've been that that's like sort
- 53:06Speaker 9: of like a phrase that I sort of kind of used.
- 53:09Speaker 9: I wouldn't necessarily put this one. I think Mac did
- 53:13Speaker 9: about what you all you could really hope for given
- 53:16Speaker 9: the way that the game unfolded.
- 53:18Speaker 4: Now.
- 53:18Speaker 9: I don't think he was perfect by any means. I
- 53:20Speaker 9: think the pick was atrocious. But I don't think this
- 53:24Speaker 9: would be a great Teflon Matt, even for like a
- 53:27Speaker 9: guy like on my side. This wouldn't be one of
- 53:29Speaker 9: those games like yeah, in like that game against Miami
- 53:31Speaker 9: when he like, No, this wouldn't be one of the
- 53:33Speaker 9: ones I would have in the holster.
- 53:36Speaker 13: Yeah, that that that pick though, That's that's one thing
- 53:38Speaker 13: I was going to get at. You know, Evan, I
- 53:40Speaker 13: didn't fight you too, uh too. I didn't fight back
- 53:42Speaker 13: on it last week when I when I brought it
- 53:44Speaker 13: up when he threw the one a booty that that
- 53:46Speaker 13: stopped the drive at the end. But like, I'm gonna
- 53:48Speaker 13: fight you on it this week because I'm like, it's that,
- 53:51Speaker 13: it's that jump ball that he liked. And here's like example, what.
- 53:55Speaker 5: Is he supposed to do? Like, who is he supposed
- 53:57Speaker 5: to throw it to down the field? Go ahead, go ahead,
- 54:00Speaker 5: I'm sorry, here's the thing.
- 54:02Speaker 13: Okay, I'm gonna give you some examples. Okay, with Tyreek Hill,
- 54:05Speaker 13: the one that threw the tet Tyreek Hill, you got
- 54:08Speaker 13: two Alphas down there, Hill and Gonzo, so you can
- 54:12Speaker 13: look at that as fifty to fifty. The one with
- 54:14Speaker 13: the one that he threw the wattle, well, you got
- 54:16Speaker 13: one Outpha down there, so that's eighty twenty. So his
- 54:19Speaker 13: guy came down with it. But like, for some reason,
- 54:21Speaker 13: I wish that somebody had the kind of kind of
- 54:24Speaker 13: confidence in me that he has in Devonte Parker because
- 54:27Speaker 13: he believes there's two alphas down there when he sees
- 54:30Speaker 13: him and Zavian Hellerton.
- 54:31Speaker 4: No, he doesn't see. To me, I don't think it
- 54:33Speaker 4: was about a mentality. It was a bad throw.
- 54:35Speaker 5: It was a bad throw, and I'm not excusing the
- 54:37Speaker 5: bad throw. But at the end of the day, I
- 54:41Speaker 5: told you off the top of the show, they have
- 54:42Speaker 5: two plays over twenty yards thanks Anthony. Two plays, and
- 54:47Speaker 5: that's not because of the quarterback right now. The reason
- 54:49Speaker 5: why they have two plays over twenty yards is because
- 54:51Speaker 5: they ain't got anybody on the outside who can do
- 54:53Speaker 5: what Jalen Wattle did to Miles Bryant. That's That's just
- 54:57Speaker 5: the bottom line. I'm not going to sit here and
- 54:59Speaker 5: say that Mac Jones would be an MVP quarterback if
- 55:01Speaker 5: he had better weapons. I'm not saying that. But you say,
- 55:05Speaker 5: in that situation like he trusted DeVante Parker, who else
- 55:08Speaker 5: is he supposed to trust?
- 55:09Speaker 9: I would just say that all the criticism you want
- 55:11Speaker 9: to throw for that one individual play, you know, much
- 55:14Speaker 9: like Tua. I think you want to criticize Tua for
- 55:16Speaker 9: the pick go. I mean, terrible play, terrible decision, the
- 55:21Speaker 9: Mac pick on first and ten from the twenty two.
- 55:25Speaker 9: That's what you thought was your best chance. Like, okay,
- 55:27Speaker 9: you have one on one down that side. You know,
- 55:30Speaker 9: pre snap, I'm looking at whatever I see.
- 55:33Speaker 4: You have to come off of that. You have to.
- 55:36Speaker 5: I don't disagree because it he terrible all around. He
- 55:39Speaker 5: in general, he needs I agree with the caller that
- 55:42Speaker 5: at the end of the day, that's not a matchup
- 55:45Speaker 5: that favors the Patriots and the quarterbacks got to know that.
- 55:48Speaker 5: The quarterbacks got to know high that this is not
- 55:51Speaker 5: where I'm going to win this game. Is throwing it
- 55:53Speaker 5: t's X on the outside with Parker. That's not how
- 55:57Speaker 5: I'm going to win the game. But it would be
- 55:59Speaker 5: nice just to for Mac for a second. It would
- 56:01Speaker 5: be nice if his receiver every once in a while
- 56:04Speaker 5: made a play for him. That would be nice. And
- 56:06Speaker 5: Kendrick Bourne dropped a deep ball that he made a
- 56:09Speaker 5: good throw on Parker. Can't be that win that matchup.
- 56:12Speaker 5: I agree with that, But one.
- 56:14Speaker 4: Time one the Bourne one, I think is in that category.
- 56:17Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 56:17Speaker 9: I mean, I remember Hunter Henry reaching behind his head
- 56:20Speaker 9: to bring in a fourth and twelve pass, Like I
- 56:23Speaker 9: think this is where I sort.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Of get a little bit too far. The other way.
- 56:26Speaker 9: So I think the Hunter Henry play, I don't think
- 56:29Speaker 9: you can throw it any better than Mac threw it
- 56:31Speaker 9: on that So I'm gonna I'm gonna leave this conversation
- 56:34Speaker 9: with a positive on Mac. I don't think Mack could
- 56:36Speaker 9: have thrown that deep ball to Kendrick Bourne any better
- 56:39Speaker 9: than he did. And and the fact that he put
- 56:40Speaker 9: one hand up.
- 56:42Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 56:42Speaker 9: You know, we haven't gotten into this yet, like we
- 56:45Speaker 9: haven't gotten in any of the drama yet. I think
- 56:47Speaker 9: this drama bruin too like for him to not have played,
- 56:51Speaker 9: you know what, half half the plays after two touchdowns
- 56:54Speaker 9: the first week he plays half the snaps. Is that
- 56:56Speaker 9: just because his boy Parker's back and he has to
- 56:59Speaker 9: play one hundred percent of this apps? Or is it
- 57:01Speaker 9: because they didn't like the effort on some of those plays.
- 57:03Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 57:04Speaker 5: His heart riding in week one was shaky, like some
- 57:07Speaker 5: good rounds.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Did you have to think of what Mac had to
- 57:11Speaker 1: say about you know, we have to it can't be
- 57:15Speaker 1: just a couple of us.
- 57:17Speaker 4: Us clarified that this morning. I didn't I didn't love it,
- 57:20Speaker 4: didn't hate it.
- 57:21Speaker 8: I would just say to it felt like they really
- 57:24Speaker 8: were purposeful and trying to get Juju involved.
- 57:27Speaker 4: A lot of plays design specific me.
- 57:30Speaker 5: So do you feel Harry Vibes were just force feeding
- 57:32Speaker 5: him even though he's not one of our better players.
- 57:34Speaker 9: I'm not sure he would have been a part of
- 57:35Speaker 9: the offense at all. If they didn't have to bench Douglas.
- 57:38Speaker 5: Well, I don't didn't have to bench Douglas.
- 57:40Speaker 9: No, no, no, they they didn't have to bench Douglas. You
- 57:43Speaker 9: and I wouldn't have been bench Douglas. But the point being,
- 57:48Speaker 9: I think if Douglas doesn't fumble that I'm not sure
- 57:50Speaker 9: you see much of Juju.
- 57:52Speaker 8: If if that's what was interesting to me though, because
- 57:54Speaker 8: it's like, were those plays designed for Douglas and then
- 57:56Speaker 8: they just rolled them over to Juju or you know,
- 57:58Speaker 8: I don't know, it just it seemed they were intentionally
- 58:00Speaker 8: trying to get involved.
- 58:01Speaker 9: I just mean, the best player that Juju was involved
- 58:04Speaker 9: when was an evan off platform play, the role to
- 58:07Speaker 9: the left and the Sideline. That wasn't a play designed
- 58:10Speaker 9: for Juju. It was two guys making a play on
- 58:12Speaker 9: the run.
- 58:13Speaker 4: On the go.
- 58:14Speaker 1: All right, well, Paul's foods here going up break. We

- 59:32Speaker 12: Three Dolphins get to the quarterback with a jail great
- 59:35Speaker 12: lad by David Long Junior the x tight hit.
- 59:37Speaker 16: Yet both tackles get lost here with the Blitz look
- 59:39Speaker 16: perfect timing by the Miami defense, Max's gonna have to
- 59:42Speaker 16: extend his count here a little bit.
- 59:45Speaker 12: Doutless motions to the right to join Yoseki. Two receivers
- 59:48Speaker 12: stacked les Stevenson in the back of Flitzer's coming.
- 59:50Speaker 6: A rush up.
- 59:51Speaker 17: The moment cost little for Tubs.
- 59:52Speaker 6: Pharsing us in mine off chuck down, Who's from behind?
- 59:56Speaker 6: Stevenson dimes on it for New England initially, but then.
- 59:59Speaker 12: The Dolphins taken a the Mario Douglass had the ball
- 1:00:04Speaker 12: chopped away from behind and it looked like romondre Stevenson
- 1:00:08Speaker 12: had a shot at it, diving car at the loose
- 1:00:10Speaker 12: ball before the Dolphins.
- 1:00:12Speaker 17: Come away with a turnover by New England and.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: Then screen set up for Wattle right slat spreads past.
- 1:00:18Speaker 16: The forties, speaks past the thirty across the twenty.
- 1:00:20Speaker 12: Five as he stepped out of an ankle tackle and
- 1:00:23Speaker 12: then lost his balance inside the twenty. Eventually hopped to
- 1:00:26Speaker 12: his feet and was pushed down by Devi and now
- 1:00:28Speaker 12: Marcus Jones is writhing in paid earlier in equipment issue
- 1:00:32Speaker 12: for Jones.
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: In this case it is an injury. Hot men in
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: motion left and then orbit.
- 1:00:38Speaker 17: Motion into the Batchelor circles back to the right, a.
- 1:00:40Speaker 12: Gift to Poster runs in the left, runs into the pylon.
- 1:00:44Speaker 12: I'll hop into the end zone and a touchdown for Miami.
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: Gonna get tough. You've gotta get the buy out. On
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: the right side, he's got collapse.
- 1:00:51Speaker 16: I don't know about four times tonight Gonzales gets pinned
- 1:00:54Speaker 16: in right there, and this is Moster sets it up inside.
- 1:00:57Speaker 16: He's pompstant. He's done us twice tonight. That's a hell
- 1:01:00Speaker 16: of a run by him. Poor job by your perimeter
- 1:01:04Speaker 16: trying to collapse that ende. You've been condensed down inside
- 1:01:06Speaker 16: multiple time.
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: Side. Something's got to change.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: You need the personnel swarts.
- 1:01:09Speaker 12: But again Otomid goes in motion to the right, the
- 1:01:12Speaker 12: lion starts to block that way, and then most Are
- 1:01:14Speaker 12: runs left.
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: He say, let's to viking down inside. You can't you
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: can't you gotta stay home. Take the gap Attecrity. They
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: talked about it all week.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: Stay in your spot.
- 1:01:23Speaker 11: I'm a rookie Chad Ryland, come on kid, fourth round
- 1:01:26Speaker 11: pick from Maryland, who made two extra points last week
- 1:01:29Speaker 11: with his first career field goal attempt from forty nine
- 1:01:33Speaker 11: yards out near Hashmark Herringer.
- 1:01:36Speaker 17: The fellow rookie knee down right hand.
- 1:01:38Speaker 12: Extending, waits on the snap from Cardona, Joe snaps the
- 1:01:42Speaker 12: back barringer holes Ryland swings the leg kick lifted to the.
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: Up Riot heads fucking, but it's good.
- 1:01:48Speaker 17: And his first career field goal and the Patriots are
- 1:01:51Speaker 17: on the board in a ten to three games.
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: We want it turn on to go here in the
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: second how go buy a lot? Takes a snap, throws
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: it right.
- 1:02:00Speaker 17: By Hill at the goal line in front of file.
- 1:02:02Speaker 17: Down here and toutch down Miami.
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: One of the easiest drives you'll see all week.
- 1:02:08Speaker 17: Have the Dolphins we have eleven sat against the spair
- 1:02:11Speaker 17: as they celebrating the.
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: Unzone, stretching their lead to sixteen to three. You've got
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: picked a part.
- 1:02:19Speaker 16: That everybody until you get down inside the five, then
- 1:02:22Speaker 16: you give it up an easy one.
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: They will this isn't even about ocean of speed and
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: hans off here. You don't even jamming him. He's he's
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: he's on the line of scrimmage inside the five.
- 1:02:34Speaker 16: It's gotta before we've got no jam on him, the
- 1:02:37Speaker 16: most dynamic receiver.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: You don't champ him.
- 1:02:40Speaker 17: He takes the staff, he dropped back.
- 1:02:42Speaker 12: He looks down vy Sackoo Jay was there for the
- 1:02:46Speaker 12: Patriots along with Judog Matt. Judea will celebrate in the
- 1:02:49Speaker 12: red sleeves. Another sack, his second in his many winks.
- 1:02:53Speaker 16: Shoo Jay in the middle, foot Cha in the middle.
- 1:02:55Speaker 16: Make him more athletic, get him over to the center. Now,
- 1:02:57Speaker 16: all of a sudden, you start looking at where we
- 1:02:59Speaker 16: don't have a got a block. Now it's a little guy.
- 1:03:01Speaker 16: That's jude On off the back edge. But man, you
- 1:03:04Speaker 16: push the pocket here ouj tries to get the swim move.
- 1:03:07Speaker 16: He got up under the guard and it's him a
- 1:03:09Speaker 16: jude On. He's teaming up on ta.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: Tag of my loaf from the gulch cloister to his left.
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: Takes a snap. The blots are coming. I throw across.
- 1:03:17Speaker 17: I'll take away and.
- 1:03:18Speaker 12: Buy dugger a good play on a throw that gos
- 1:03:20Speaker 12: there for as you come a streaking across the middle,
- 1:03:24Speaker 12: Kyle able to drop knock it away. Jason Sanders most
- 1:03:29Speaker 12: accurate field goal kicker in Miami history.
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: The Dolphins have had a good lineage of kickers.
- 1:03:35Speaker 12: Joe said, He's forty nine yard try from the far
- 1:03:39Speaker 12: hash right hash towards the now and flows north end
- 1:03:42Speaker 12: toward the lighthouse, snaps to Bailey.
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: The kick is stack by Schooler.
- 1:03:46Speaker 12: The ball is losing to forty five step by the
- 1:03:49Speaker 12: angling Dugger recovers on a block by Brendan Schooler.
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: The patrons take over at the Miami forty nine.
- 1:03:59Speaker 16: That kick the game changer right there. What a judge
- 1:04:02Speaker 16: by Schooler on this. We saw it from up here,
- 1:04:05Speaker 16: untouched from the left side, left defensive side. He turns
- 1:04:10Speaker 16: that corner gets there, man, it just might be the
- 1:04:13Speaker 16: break that you need.
- 1:04:15Speaker 12: Max dans In throws it right and I'm all gonna
- 1:04:18Speaker 12: be kicked off by Howard, fronting DeVante, Parker and Exam
- 1:04:24Speaker 12: and Howard comes up with another interception for Miami.
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: I don't what are they talking about. There's nothing what
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: they're trying to converse? Where the officials took their fourty
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: yard on Yeah, they stepped out of it on the
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: field because an interception.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Oh now, Miami time out.
- 1:04:43Speaker 6: Remember golf for the first two Japan about forty five
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: trips to the left.
- 1:04:47Speaker 12: Now he'll Springsiang Slam, baked by Tango by.
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: Lord, chased by Judi.
- 1:04:52Speaker 17: Unload the deep ball down the left side.
- 1:04:53Speaker 12: Right now, it's gonna be a setting lifting gun Dallas, the.
- 1:04:57Speaker 17: Rookie fix it up the bay.
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: She had to take over ten to fifteen.
- 1:05:02Speaker 16: I'm sorry, Tyreek Hill is going forward at the snaps.
- 1:05:05Speaker 16: This has happened about three times tonight. They do so
- 1:05:09Speaker 16: much of it that the referees fall asleep. I want
- 1:05:11Speaker 16: to play by Gonzalez, ad jump ball, Wait to catch
- 1:05:14Speaker 16: it at the highest point, kid, big moment for him
- 1:05:17Speaker 16: right there.
- 1:05:18Speaker 12: Wow, Christian Gonzalez, the rookie first round pick. Where a
- 1:05:23Speaker 12: forty one and a half bene berda coen my pointing it.
- 1:05:28Speaker 12: That's the second time in as many weeks that Gonzales
- 1:05:32Speaker 12: has come up with a big play for the Patriots.
- 1:05:34Speaker 12: Last week it was a fourth down breakup against the Eagles.
- 1:05:39Speaker 12: Now the Dolphins have a chance to distance themselves from
- 1:05:42Speaker 12: the past. First and ten from the forty three forward
- 1:05:45Speaker 12: cams it off to most sprints straight.
- 1:05:47Speaker 17: I had it.
- 1:05:47Speaker 12: He's gone because that's one story to the ten to
- 1:05:50Speaker 12: the upside like that touch down Miami.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: For going forward at the motion.
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: I'm telling you the hell the run by.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Moster increased it.
- 1:06:02Speaker 16: His side angle again at this I'm showing it from
- 1:06:04Speaker 16: the rear angle here on NBC. But they're moving forward
- 1:06:08Speaker 16: at the step with the potion. It's about four or
- 1:06:11Speaker 16: five times the forty three yards. No chance to catch
- 1:06:15Speaker 16: him in the open field. Sanders comes on for the
- 1:06:18Speaker 16: point after trial from the two.
- 1:06:21Speaker 17: White hash marks, stamping a handoff.
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: Stevens and tucks the Shoulders runs up.
- 1:06:24Speaker 17: Coming a lot is getting to the end zone. Touchdown Adrians.
- 1:06:29Speaker 16: Quarterbacks trying to fall here, man, I mean these last
- 1:06:32Speaker 16: two drives are all on Mac all on Mac keeping places,
- 1:06:36Speaker 16: multiple plays alive under duress, tackle for breaking down.
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: He's stepping out of the pocket and you need him.
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: You need him tonight. He's somewhat carrying you. So the
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: Patriots are out of timeouts exactly six six.
- 1:06:52Speaker 12: Sick up another contestic catch in the game on the
- 1:06:55Speaker 12: line right there, four and three from the thirty three.
- 1:06:57Speaker 12: We get dregs left and putting the two Ton ends
- 1:06:59Speaker 12: stack two receivers right joints. Jones steps forward to identify
- 1:07:04Speaker 12: the protections. Now he takes the step, he back pedals.
- 1:07:06Speaker 12: He's pressured up, he said. He throws into the air
- 1:07:08Speaker 12: side finger tip catch by Kasiki's reaching out laterals it back.
- 1:07:12Speaker 17: Pop by Strange. He's wrapped up.
- 1:07:14Speaker 16: He drives col tacklers will put across the thirtieth to
- 1:07:17Speaker 16: the twenty nine.
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: Seemingly when the first down gonna clock. It got a claw.
- 1:07:22Speaker 17: Handred's gotta get to the line of scrimmen.
- 1:07:24Speaker 12: Want a heads up, Blake and with forty seconds ago,
- 1:07:26Speaker 12: kaz Sicki trying to reach out with a biger tip
- 1:07:28Speaker 12: catch and put the.
- 1:07:29Speaker 16: Ball across the line again and then plateral's back the
- 1:07:32Speaker 16: Strange your.
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: First down on the further review, he knew he didn't
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: have a play official. We'll take another look.
- 1:07:40Speaker 12: We want to catch by Strange and then turning and
- 1:07:43Speaker 12: then turning forward kiss and he lands across the thirty
- 1:07:50Speaker 12: yard line.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Have the review.
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: The runner was down, sort of playing the game.
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: The nine line the one.
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: I did.
- 1:08:07Speaker 12: Thirty two seconds one last time, Tunguo I loa to
- 1:08:10Speaker 12: the knee. He is now five to zero against the
- 1:08:13Speaker 12: Patriots as the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback.
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: The Dolphins atop the ANC East.
- 1:08:19Speaker 12: The Patriots now were their first and two stars since
- 1:08:22Speaker 12: two thousand and one. They've got to go to New
- 1:08:25Speaker 12: York next week to play the Jets and that defense.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Rich Stone is the official tire of the New England Patriots,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: and Bridgestone tires are now on location through September thirtieth
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: at all Sullivan Tire locations. Visit sullivantires dot com for
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: a location near you.
- 1:08:47Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: So it's been since two thousand and one since the
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Patriots started oh and two, but we all know what
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: happened that season. Yeah. True, but that's got hurt.
- 1:08:55Speaker 9: Yeah, that is word for word what my was on
- 1:09:01Speaker 9: a main radio station. He said, you know that one
- 1:09:04Speaker 9: turned out pretty well? Said yeah, LEDs got hurt and
- 1:09:06Speaker 9: Brady came in and saved the day.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Let's get to the phones. Eight five to five, Pats
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: five hundred. We'll go to Patty and Agua on what's
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: up Patty, Patty, Patti, No too long, Tony and Pittsburgh. Tony,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: what's up?
- 1:09:24Speaker 18: Hey, guys, thanks for taking the call again, no problem.
- 1:09:27Speaker 18: So many things to talk about this game, right, and
- 1:09:28Speaker 18: you've covered a lot of them. I know you've briefly
- 1:09:30Speaker 18: touched on the defense. On that side of things, I
- 1:09:33Speaker 18: think good teams on defense make the offense win different ways,
- 1:09:37Speaker 18: and the offense is called that bluff when they're good.
- 1:09:39Speaker 18: So credit to the Dolphins there. Maybe things would have
- 1:09:42Speaker 18: been different if John Jones could have played and they
- 1:09:43Speaker 18: could have manned up one of those guys. You know,
- 1:09:46Speaker 18: I think the story is just on the offense. I'll
- 1:09:48Speaker 18: give you a little something to chew on, where no
- 1:09:51Speaker 18: further than the box score first three quarters seven possessions
- 1:09:54Speaker 18: zero three zero in the box score, and it just
- 1:09:57Speaker 18: has to be better than that. For many of the
- 1:09:59Speaker 18: reasons you guys are pointed out. I think the most
- 1:10:01Speaker 18: important ones maybe those formations. Smack seems to succeed the
- 1:10:04Speaker 18: most in shotgun and then they can't run the ball
- 1:10:06Speaker 18: because no one's scared of him passing when they're in
- 1:10:09Speaker 18: the you know, in the eye or the single back.
- 1:10:11Speaker 18: So that's all I got, all right.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Thanks Tony.
- 1:10:14Speaker 9: Yeah, he's right about the starts, like you can't just
- 1:10:17Speaker 9: give away possession after possession, and that's what they're doing.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Nick writes in mass Native Living in Dolphin Country
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and the Florida Keys super frustrated like everyone else. Seems
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: like the whole world knew we needed a receiver an
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: O line upgrade, and Bill did nothing about it. Got
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: to think we'd be at least one in one if
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: that had happened. Anyway, we're owing two and the sky
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: is falling. But taking a step back. If you're owing
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: two and I told you the teams you lost to,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: both by one score were both going to end up
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: in the conference championship game at the end of the season,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: would you feel better about it?
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: Now?
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Ask yourself, how far fetched is it that that's really
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: actually what happens.
- 1:10:55Speaker 9: I mean, I'm not speaking for you guys, but no,
- 1:10:57Speaker 9: it would not make me feel better because that's kind
- 1:11:00Speaker 9: of a confirmation of what I've been thinking. They can't
- 1:11:02Speaker 9: stack up against the good teams.
- 1:11:04Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, they don't need to end up in
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: the conference championship for me to believe that those two
- 1:11:09Speaker 8: offenses are really good. I mean, I think Philadelphia didn't
- 1:11:11Speaker 8: play that great. They didn't probably play up to what
- 1:11:13Speaker 8: they really are going to be. But Miami did play great,
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: So I mean I do think that there's something just
- 1:11:18Speaker 8: to be said that, look, the first two games out
- 1:11:19Speaker 8: of the gate, you played arguably two of the best
- 1:11:21Speaker 8: offenses and most unique offenses.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: In the league.
- 1:11:24Speaker 8: And not to make excuses, they need to be better
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: against those teams, like Paul said, but you know, those
- 1:11:28Speaker 8: are two really really tough, tough teams to match up
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: right out of the gate.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: So you know, take it for what it is. Is
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: there's no excuses. They got to be better this week
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: against an offense that's not going.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: To be what those two offenses.
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: They also made some really really good in game adjustments
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: defensively in this game. They came out and zoned three
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: high safety and Tua just picked them apart, and they
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: they really went away from that and completely changed their
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: game plan and basically just trusted their guys to play
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: their usual style of defense after that and make plays
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: on the outside, which for the most part, they did.
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: And I thought that the adjustments were really what held
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: Miami to twenty four points. If they had kept what
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: to do and what they were doing at the beginning
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: of the game, then Miami would have scored forty.
- 1:12:10Speaker 9: So you don't think poor execution did that like maybe,
- 1:12:14Speaker 9: I mean, I mean they missed two field goals, the
- 1:12:16Speaker 9: second one after you drop a snap for no reason,
- 1:12:19Speaker 9: like it's third in less than a yard. You drop
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: a snap and then you have to kick a fifty
- 1:12:23Speaker 9: five yard field goal and that's why you miss it.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Yeah, but they were otherwise like perfect.
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: I mean it's it's like any team perfect the whole
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: game with everything, like you know, you do some mistake.
- 1:12:32Speaker 9: Like I would push back against the perfect. I think
- 1:12:34Speaker 9: they dropped passes. I think they missed some plays, and
- 1:12:37Speaker 9: I think the one that you were talking about with
- 1:12:39Speaker 9: Tyreek Hill, to me, I think could have been a
- 1:12:41Speaker 9: big play. I think the Patriots did enough to hang
- 1:12:45Speaker 9: on defensively. Yeah, that's the probably the best compliment I
- 1:12:49Speaker 9: can give the Patriots defensively is they did enough to
- 1:12:52Speaker 9: hang on. But I think the same performance is generally.
- 1:12:57Speaker 9: I think they allowed a thirty point game. I think
- 1:12:59Speaker 9: the other team, you know, not being prepared and missing
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: out on special teams cost them six points minimum. I
- 1:13:09Speaker 9: would say even more because I think the fumbled snap
- 1:13:12Speaker 9: was like that can't happen, Like that's not not playing perfect,
- 1:13:15Speaker 9: that's playing I wanted. I knew I had something I
- 1:13:18Speaker 9: wanted to ask you guys. I random stream of consciousness
- 1:13:22Speaker 9: in the I don't know if you guys saw this,
- 1:13:23Speaker 9: but in the game book, after the fourth down, the
- 1:13:27Speaker 9: lateral play, there was fifty one seconds left and there
- 1:13:32Speaker 9: was two kneel downs. One of them says fumble play aboarded.
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: Did he fumble another snap?
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: He did?
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: Yeah, they talked about de Marcus Covington talked about it.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: They were talking about that's why you hit the center,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: even on kneel downs, because you never know what's going
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: to happen. Yeah. I didn't get it, but yeah, he
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: did fumble it.
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: But I'm not trying to say that the defense.
- 1:13:54Speaker 9: No, I wasn't suggesting that you did. I was just
- 1:13:57Speaker 9: saying I think that the adjustments were wherever.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: I think the defense played well enough, But.
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: I don't I do.
- 1:14:03Speaker 9: I think if you play like that against that offense,
- 1:14:05Speaker 9: you're gonna lose nine times out of ten. I think
- 1:14:07Speaker 9: you're going to get thirty on you nine times out.
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: I think if you play like that with the way
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: that you need to win football games, and that's all
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: they could do, that's all they could do, right what
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: they did. I agree, But I think at the bottom
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: line is is you gave up twenty four points and
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: you needed twenty five to win, and they can't score
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: twenty five, right, like, and that's the band plan.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: I would say this is where I'm going to be
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: on Pro Patriot.
- 1:14:30Speaker 19: Like.
- 1:14:30Speaker 9: I think that they played him the only way you
- 1:14:33Speaker 9: can possibly play them. You can't let them run free
- 1:14:36Speaker 9: and throw bombs, and they didn't.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: I think that Jonathan jones injury was tough, and it
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: just shows the depth. They don't have a lot of depth.
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: It's a house of cards had a lot of spots,
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: so when.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: One guy like that goes down, it really does affect
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: really Like.
- 1:14:49Speaker 9: The only position group that I feel fine about regardless
- 1:14:53Speaker 9: is safety. I think that they can lose the safety
- 1:14:56Speaker 9: or two. I wouldn't want to see dugg Er leave,
- 1:14:59Speaker 9: but I think that if you put Adrian Phillips into
- 1:15:01Speaker 9: a bigger role, there's not a huge drop off. Jalen
- 1:15:04Speaker 9: Mills and Adrian Phillips haven't played a ton in the
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: first two games. I feel fine with those guys on
- 1:15:08Speaker 9: the field.
- 1:15:09Speaker 8: Phillips seems like he's more special teams right now. Cody
- 1:15:12Speaker 8: Davis out, I mean, it seems like that's kind of
- 1:15:14Speaker 8: what his role has transitioned to, being kind of the core.
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: Twhy I had them on my surprise cut list.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: If you recall to be fair though to them at corner,
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: they're now down all three Joneses. Yeah, so yeah, take
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: you take away three corners from anybody's cornerback room, and
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: you're going to start to have some depth issues.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Right Sam and Halifax. I really like the postgame podcast
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: and Evans upon further review, right up, I found them
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: both to be well balanced and informative. I definitely catch
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: myself falling into the mac apologist camp at times, and
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: I'll say that so far this season, I think Mac
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: has been good ish. He's had some plays that definitely
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: stand out compared to his first two years, I feel,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: especially given some of the old line issues and skill
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: position players on the field, but with some real bad
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: throws in both games that just make you question his arm.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: My question is to do with the benching of Pop Douglas.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: You discussed your thoughts postgame about the benching rookies after
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: fumbling rule. Bill has and question it given Douglas' skill
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: set compared to the other guys out there. Bill has
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: lots of these quirks. Is this unwritten rule or behavior
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: the most frustrating or does something else come to mind?
- 1:16:19Speaker 9: No, the mostrust drafting that he thinks that running the ball,
- 1:16:22Speaker 9: playing good special teams is the formula to success.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: There's plenty, there's plenty of that.
- 1:16:27Speaker 8: I mean, I just think it's unfortunate if they did
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: have all those plays kind of planned for Pop Douglas and.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: Then they ended up going to Juju.
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: What what different place?
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: You know, like, how many if you had gotten Pop
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: Douglas that many touches? I mean that what did Juju
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: end up with? I mean just a couple of five catches.
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: Twenty eight yards? You know, might you might have got
- 1:16:44Speaker 8: a little something I would have liked to see popping that.
- 1:16:46Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't, But I just like I'm gonna give
- 1:16:48Speaker 9: them a little defending Again. I don't think the plan
- 1:16:51Speaker 9: was that, like you fall down seventeen to three, you're
- 1:16:54Speaker 9: chasing two scores the entire second half, you're game plan.
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: And I even think some of those plays to Juju
- 1:16:59Speaker 9: weren't necessarily is not like we got to get Juju
- 1:17:01Speaker 9: the ball. There was that little bubble screen that was yep,
- 1:17:05Speaker 9: and that was to me, that's a to Mario Douglas.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Play Tony writes, saying, I feel like channeling my inner
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Andy Hart channeling his inner Edward G. Robinson and the
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: Ted Commandments. Who is your Messiah?
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: Now's yeah? I seen Andy credit for that.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I seem to recall the great Billy O'Brien had some
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: guy at quarterback, Edward Brady or Patrick who won the
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: AFC East Division and even the AFC Championship prior to
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: the great offensive coordinators arrival. Oh, he might have even
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: won the Super Bowl. I think even the Great Billy
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: O'Brien needs players, including an O line, to execute his plays.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: It's all about the players, or at least a very
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: large part, and the Patriots simply don't have the players,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: haven't had them for a few years and won't for
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: a while.
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: I agree with the emailer, like I said at the
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: top of the show, it's the same pig with nicer
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: shoes and nicer lipstick on it, Like it's the same
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: personnel in terms of the middling personnel. It's just that
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: Billy Oh is better at designing an offense than Matt Patricia.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: He makes it look better.
- 1:18:06Speaker 9: Yeah, But to Evan's point, and if you don't want
- 1:18:09Speaker 9: to depress yourself, don't do this exercise.
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: I did take the numbers from last year on average
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: per game, and then look at the numbers from this year.
- 1:18:18Speaker 6: You will not like what you see.
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: I'm just gonna say, I don't do that. I don't
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: look at any numbers.
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: They don't.
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: Don't do it, don't do it.
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: Defend them. They have been better situationally, third down in
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: red zone they have, and it looks better.
- 1:18:29Speaker 9: And I would totally say, like I know that, you
- 1:18:32Speaker 9: know sometime, like you know, oh sure, all the totally
- 1:18:36Speaker 9: subjective things are better.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: No, I'm watching. It looks better. They have a plan,
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: they have a design. Do I agree with every play call?
- 1:18:43Speaker 20: No?
- 1:18:44Speaker 9: There was that run that we talked about in the
- 1:18:46Speaker 9: post game show to Ezekiel Elliott.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: Coming out of the two minute wanting. I just saw wanting.
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: I turned into my mother.
- 1:18:54Speaker 9: That was an atrocious call. That was a waste of
- 1:18:56Speaker 9: a play. The quarterback sneaks on second one wasted downs
- 1:18:59Speaker 9: in my opinion. So I'm not telling you this guy
- 1:19:02Speaker 9: knows what he's doing and Matt Patricia didn't. But I'm
- 1:19:04Speaker 9: just saying the results are what they are because that's
- 1:19:07Speaker 9: what the person.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I am going to say. He knows what he's doing.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: And Patricia didn't, but still you need the players. You
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: need the players Rick and Dallas. I feel like the
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Patriots have been repeating the same cycle the last few years.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: They start the season with a solid defense but no
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: game changers on offense, lose games the last minute, which
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: gives everyone hope when just enough games, doing large part
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: to superior coaching from Bill Belichick, to miss out on
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: high draft picks and finish the season eight to nine
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: or nine and eight. Then in the offseason they avoid
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: big name free agents, use their early round draft picks
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: on defense, and let their best players walk without resigning.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: Then they start the process all over again. Honestly, I
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: don't see anything changing anytime soon. I hate being so pessimistic,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: But do any of you see anything changing? I am
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: looking or am I looking at this the wrong way?
- 1:19:52Speaker 10: I feel like something has to change, Like if they
- 1:19:55Speaker 10: are like under five hundred this year because of this
- 1:19:58Speaker 10: personnel issue has to change. Whether it's coaches, whether it's
- 1:20:02Speaker 10: more than that, who knows, but something has to change,
- 1:20:04Speaker 10: Like you can't just continue to just be eyeing when
- 1:20:09Speaker 10: you're coaching to take you farther than what It can't
- 1:20:12Speaker 10: it can't.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: It's just it's such a difficult thing for me because
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: they have a floor every single year. They have a
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: floor because Bill Belichick is their head coach. Like they
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: are not going to stink because Bill is their coach,
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: and they're going to be in a lot of games
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: that Frankly, Miami has a lot more talent than they
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: do on their roster. But they hung in there and
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: they were incompetitive in the game, I think because of
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: the system, because of the fundamentals from because of the coaching.
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: But at the same time, like Paul was saying, he
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: wants to he still thinks running the ball in defense
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: and special teams is going to win football games in
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: twenty twenty three and it's not. So that's where Bill
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: holds his own self back. But like it, I feel
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: like this is always in a pretzel with me. It's
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: like they're good because of Bill Belichick, but they're also
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: bad because of Bill Belichick, and which Bill do we
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: care more?
- 1:21:00Speaker 10: Morre and right now with this, they're just gonna have
- 1:21:02Speaker 10: a bunch of moral victories where they're gonna be like,
- 1:21:04Speaker 10: to your point, Miami's roster is really good and we
- 1:21:07Speaker 10: held them to this cool, but you still lost.
- 1:21:09Speaker 9: And it's going to be a bunch of What worries
- 1:21:11Speaker 9: me is that he thinks that way. Like I agree
- 1:21:14Speaker 9: with what Evan said, I thought, like I said, the
- 1:21:18Speaker 9: game plan defensively, I thought was a good one. I
- 1:21:21Speaker 9: thought the offensive game plan by Miami was better. But
- 1:21:25Speaker 9: the reason that I worry is I think he takes
- 1:21:28Speaker 9: a game like that and says, did you see what
- 1:21:30Speaker 9: I did?
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: That high flying that putting No. Thirty six on us?
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: But I would say, what's the difference?
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: He still lost?
- 1:21:38Speaker 9: Like you think that the way to win games now
- 1:21:41Speaker 9: is holding those teams below their average and you can win,
- 1:21:44Speaker 9: but you can if you can't score. And this is
- 1:21:47Speaker 9: going on now, three plus years of not really being
- 1:21:50Speaker 9: able to score with those offenses. He thinks it's great
- 1:21:54Speaker 9: because those offenses not getting their career nights against me.
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: And you also look at what we were talking about
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: this earlier, what he said postgame. Somebody asked him postgame,
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: why do you think you guys have gotten off the
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: slow starts and gotten yourself into these holes? And he
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: said turnovers, right, that they turned the ball over too much.
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: And on the surface, I can see what he's saying.
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: But at the same time, just because maybe you don't
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: throw pick six against Philadelphia? Are you gonna score? Like,
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: you're probably gonna There was like a minute left in
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: the third quarter when they turned the ball over the
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: second time. They had one fumble on the second series
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: of the game. That's why you fell behind seventeen to three, right,
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: because the Dolphins then went like eighty five yards off
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: of that fumble. Right, Which is another thing that's not
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: exactly like not all turnovers are created equals, you know,
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: like sometimes you give up a fumble.
- 1:22:39Speaker 9: Okay, maybe you took points off the board. Maybe you
- 1:22:42Speaker 9: would have got a field goal there and ends up
- 1:22:44Speaker 9: being a ten point swing, but you can still stop them. Yeah,
- 1:22:49Speaker 9: liked't they didn't go that touchdowns right because of the
- 1:22:51Speaker 9: fumble to him. Those are their margins though, right, are
- 1:22:54Speaker 9: like if we don't if we don't turn the ball over,
- 1:22:56Speaker 9: we don't throw an interception. You know, where is that
- 1:22:59Speaker 9: the twenty three years something like that that macked through
- 1:23:01Speaker 9: the interception of Parker.
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: Terrible.
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: If you don't have those two turnovers, Like even if
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: you give give give us ten points on those two drives,
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: a field goal and a touchdown because of two turnovers,
- 1:23:13Speaker 5: there's the game, right, And that's the way that he's
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: presenting it. At least I don't know if that's actually
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: how he feels, but that's the way.
- 1:23:19Speaker 9: I think that is how he feels, and I think
- 1:23:20Speaker 9: he completely ignores those plays from the other side. Yeah,
- 1:23:23Speaker 9: like I said, with the fumbled snap, which had nothing
- 1:23:26Speaker 9: to do like to me, at least the Brendan school
- 1:23:28Speaker 9: of blocked field goal, that's entirely on the Patriots. Wonderful scheme,
- 1:23:33Speaker 9: even better execution to block a field goal, fumbling a
- 1:23:37Speaker 9: snap on third and an inch when they get the
- 1:23:38Speaker 9: inch and the game is over and they're just gonna
- 1:23:40Speaker 9: be you have to use your timeouts now, and now
- 1:23:41Speaker 9: you're gonna end up kneling on the ball. That's the
- 1:23:44Speaker 9: only reason why you got the ball back, not because
- 1:23:46Speaker 9: of some wonderful play that they made. He doesn't look
- 1:23:49Speaker 9: at it that way.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: Though, Colin Denver, I feel like you need to refocus.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: So here goes my rant, and I mean it with
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: the best intentions. Members of the show spend the majority
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: of last week being defend of their takes on the
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Patriots rather than talking about the Dolphins. Why did you
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: even mention Van Ginkl, Xavier Howard or vic Fangio barely
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: any mention of Armstead being out. I come here to
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: get your thoughts on the last week's game on Tuesday,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: in a preview of the next week's game on Wednesday
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: and Thursday. Let's complaining about people calling you negative on Twitter.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: More football, please.
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: You didn't listen to Catch twenty two.
- 1:24:24Speaker 9: Also Thoughts on Hill, he also didn't listen to the
- 1:24:26Speaker 9: first hour. I don't think anybody talked about being defensive
- 1:24:28Speaker 9: about their takes.
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: The whole first hour was strictly football the game.
- 1:24:32Speaker 9: Also, Thoughts and Mike talked about vic Fangio's too deep defense.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: Thoughts on Hill, of all people calling Patriots fan terrible
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: people ironic, don't you think?
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: Oh so now we care about what other people say.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: Right now you know how it works, and he is
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: a terrible person.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: Let's see Jack and and Aba as a fundamental At
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: a fundamental level, football reduces to a basic proposition, can
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: your guy philosophically defeat brute force, speed, quickness, or guile
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: the man across the line of scrimmage from him. After
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: the Dolphins game, we can see that the Patriots simply
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: aren't good enough to beat the guys across the line
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: of scrimmage. How did the Patriots end up in this predicament?
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: How did the Patriots get out of this predicament draft better? Yeah?
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: I think you just have to get It's funny, you know,
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: I wonder, you know, like he game it out a
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: little bit.
- 1:25:26Speaker 8: You know, it's funny you kind of stuck with with
- 1:25:28Speaker 8: Bill and his floor and you know, I just I wonder, like,
- 1:25:31Speaker 8: you know, when they finally do turn it over and
- 1:25:33Speaker 8: you know it might be a couple of rough years
- 1:25:34Speaker 8: as you're you know, trying to rebuild the roster and
- 1:25:36Speaker 8: in the mold of the new head coach, how how's
- 1:25:39Speaker 8: that gonna fly? How are three four win seasons gonna
- 1:25:41Speaker 8: fly during the during the rebuild.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: Not I'm not saying this to say we can't fire,
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: hes gonna get just so you know.
- 1:25:47Speaker 9: I say I would not say a three or four
- 1:25:49Speaker 9: win season is acceptable with with the new coach, Like
- 1:25:55Speaker 9: why what you know, why.
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: Do you have to do that?
- 1:25:56Speaker 9: Like those are the teams, but those are the teams
- 1:25:59Speaker 9: that are sort of losing purpose that win three and
- 1:26:01Speaker 9: four games like Arizona.
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: It just is a question of again, you know what
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: I said, this is the mental pretzel. I walk myself
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: into all the time, is that he's the reason why
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: you have this like eight or nine win floor, but
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: he's also the reason why you're you know, he's holding
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: them back in other areas. And it goes back to
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: Paul's you know, just said change philosophy. That's how they're
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: going to get out of this. And at what point
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: in time is he going to look at not just
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: like the game evolving and all that kind of stuff,
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: but just look at every single week the Patriots go
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: into the matchup and they have an offense that is
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: worse than the offense that they are facing just in
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: terms of personnel every week last week, how many Eagles
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: do you draft in a draft on offense before you
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: draft the first Patriots offensive player?
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: Oh god, probably at least eight or nine when you.
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: Think about the quarterback, the two receivers Dallas got right,
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: and probably the offense probably all five offense, maybe four
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: out of five offensive line. So at what point are
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: we going to look at it? And and the Eagles
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: have done this while also still maintaining a good defense,
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: Like it's not like the Eagles defense is crap because
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: they've spent all of their resources on offense, and then
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: you go into net last week and they have two
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: all world receivers that are in a different ballpark than
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: anybody on your roster. And at what point do you
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: look at that and say, we need to also load
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: up like this, like we need to have better playmakers
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: on the outside. I mean, this week they got Garrett Wilson.
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: The Patriots don't have anybody that's as good, anywhere close
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: to as good as Garrett Wilson.
- 1:27:33Speaker 8: That's why it's the draft, you know, I mean, look
- 1:27:34Speaker 8: at you know, look what Philly did. I mean, it's
- 1:27:36Speaker 8: you know, it's right there staring in the face. They
- 1:27:37Speaker 8: weren't you know, it wasn't we have an average quarterback.
- 1:27:40Speaker 8: Let's go, you know, break the bank and just try
- 1:27:42Speaker 8: to get an amazing receiver with them. They had a
- 1:27:44Speaker 8: good team in place, and they said, hey, we feel
- 1:27:45Speaker 8: like we're one player away. Let's go get aj Brown.
- 1:27:48Speaker 8: You know, they had things in place around him already
- 1:27:50Speaker 8: that you know, fostered that success. But I mean, so
- 1:27:53Speaker 8: I'd love to see the numbers just on how many.
- 1:27:55Speaker 9: Guys they've drafted and play themselves well and for like
- 1:27:58Speaker 9: the last majority for Philly specific to the point that
- 1:28:02Speaker 9: you guys are just making They didn't. They feel like
- 1:28:05Speaker 9: they have some weapons on offense, right with with Smith
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: and Brown and Goddard to go with the running game. Well,
- 1:28:11Speaker 9: they didn't then take the draft this year and say,
- 1:28:13Speaker 9: you know what we need, Let's get another receiver, another
- 1:28:16Speaker 9: running back. What does Bill do? But we're pretty good
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: on defense, so let's go out and get three defensive
- 1:28:21Speaker 9: players with the first three picks. And I don't I
- 1:28:23Speaker 9: don't mind any of the three picks. If you told
- 1:28:25Speaker 9: me that those three guys are the players, I'd say,
- 1:28:27Speaker 9: oh yeah, I mean I'm less convinced on Mapu, but
- 1:28:32Speaker 9: Keon White and especially Christian Gonzales, I'm fine with those picks.
- 1:28:36Speaker 9: But might you have been better served to maybe take
- 1:28:39Speaker 9: one of those three guys and then grab a tackle
- 1:28:42Speaker 9: and maybe you're not dealing with this, you know? And
- 1:28:44Speaker 9: I watched that kid play again last night for Cleveland.
- 1:28:47Speaker 9: He does not look out of place at Alton jan Johnson. Yes,
- 1:28:50Speaker 9: and that was a fourth round pick, right.
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: Yeah, well he fell because it's yeah fourth round, yep.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: So you had opportunities to get that guy.
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: They drafted, uh, Jake Anders.
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: And then Vederian Lowe's not playing Jake Andrews.
- 1:29:03Speaker 9: One.
- 1:29:03Speaker 5: I don't get they drafted Jake Andrews. I think there's
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: first Their first pick of the fourth round is Jake
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: Andrews if I'm not mistaken, and Dwan Jones went like
- 1:29:12Speaker 5: three picks later.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: So I think that argument.
- 1:29:16Speaker 9: But the Eagles, the Eagles took like they said, okay,
- 1:29:18Speaker 9: we have we have enough around Jalen Hurts. Now let's
- 1:29:21Speaker 9: you know, we're gonna be losing some guys in defense,
- 1:29:23Speaker 9: and that defense is definitely in transition. They're struggling in
- 1:29:25Speaker 9: the early going, but they get you know, the kid
- 1:29:29Speaker 9: who falls into their lap because of you know, the
- 1:29:32Speaker 9: the driving thing at Georgia. He's been really good, right,
- 1:29:36Speaker 9: He's been really good the first.
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: Couple of weeks.
- 1:29:39Speaker 9: And you know, of course Nikobe Dean gets hurt again
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: because that's what he did in college. But you can
- 1:29:43Speaker 9: still see what they're trying to add defensive players because
- 1:29:47Speaker 9: they feel pretty good about the offenses.
- 1:29:48Speaker 8: It's the perfect example because it's like David Andrews, one
- 1:29:50Speaker 8: of your captains, one of your best players. They drafted
- 1:29:52Speaker 8: a center, like you know, and even when you're there
- 1:29:54Speaker 8: in day four, like you know, day three, like round four,
- 1:29:56Speaker 8: like there's still good players available.
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: Jones had had to have been off their draft board.
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: For the reasons why he fell to the It's a
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: great question because he he was a top fifty talent
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: in the draft, no question, no question, and he fell
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: all the way to the fourth round because of work
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: ethic issues. I think I had heard a report that
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: he was telling teams that he actually would rather have
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: been in the NBA instead of the NFL. But he
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: weighs three hundred and eighty pounds, so the NBA wasn't
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: going to happen, so he just decided to pull on.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: A Caleb Williams. Yeah, I don't like the situation there.
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: I don't want to go this much.
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: Yeah, he he was just he interviewed really oddly, Like
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: he just said some weird things in interviews.
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: And my backup professional career now if I can't, you know,
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: I've got options. We six ' eight.
- 1:30:43Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:30:44Speaker 10: I just think at one point, at what point are
- 1:30:45Speaker 10: you going to be willing to evolve? Like I was
- 1:30:47Speaker 10: doing a panel with Matthew Slater and one of the
- 1:30:49Speaker 10: questions was, like, with being a great leader and wanting
- 1:30:52Speaker 10: to maintain your level of success, you also have to
- 1:30:55Speaker 10: be willing to evolve in order to be able to
- 1:30:58Speaker 10: still be able to be competitive, which your competition that
- 1:31:00Speaker 10: is chasing after you. And now it's like your competition
- 1:31:03Speaker 10: is not chasing you, they're surpassing you because you're not
- 1:31:07Speaker 10: You're not evolving at all. You're thinking, like, my coaching
- 1:31:10Speaker 10: is good enough. I don't need to evolve. Even though
- 1:31:11Speaker 10: the NFL is changing, They're way faster, quarterbacks are different.
- 1:31:14Speaker 10: I'm going to continue to do things the way I'm
- 1:31:16Speaker 10: used to doing it. And it's like you can't continue
- 1:31:18Speaker 10: to do that.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: I can't.
- 1:31:20Speaker 8: I mean, I just wonder if it's coming for all
- 1:31:22Speaker 8: as old men, if we're all going to be setting
- 1:31:25Speaker 8: our ways and.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: This is so it is.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:31:27Speaker 9: Maybe that's why it bothers me so much, because I
- 1:31:29Speaker 9: know it's I'm looking in the mirror, right, I mean,
- 1:31:30Speaker 9: who's more set in their ways than me?
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: But I think it's psy frustrating about it. From from
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: for Bill is he evolves on defense, on defense schematically,
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: they are very very ahead of the curve like they
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: they were first of all. Like I know that some
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: people don't like give him the credit, but I personally
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: think that Bill Belichick invented the moneybacker. Patrick Chunk came
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: back from his first failed stin and they made him
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: like a hybrid linebacker safety, and he invented a position
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: for that type of player, because.
- 1:32:02Speaker 9: I can tell you he was been trying to do
- 1:32:04Speaker 9: that for a lot longer before that, right, But me,
- 1:32:07Speaker 9: Tank Williams, who's the agent he brought Adrian Phillips over
- 1:32:12Speaker 9: for Adrian Wilson.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: Who's the guy that they drafted with Pete Carroll. He
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: was supposed to be that nick Uh what do they
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: call it?
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: You're talking about the elephant?
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: No, no, not the elephant, yeah, no, no, no, no,
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: it was oh shoot, my wife babysat for his kid.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: A couple. Who was the safety that we brought in,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: the big nickel?
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: Oh Victor Green?
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: No, no, no, that Victor.
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: You know, just so you know, I just went we
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: drafted this guy.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Oh come on, you remember, come on, Paul, Remember he
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: was supposed to be the big nickel, a big, big guy,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: big Bucky Jones to Bucky.
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: Jones, and they and Bill took to Bucky Jones and
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: Wade him a good player on the first Dynasty teams.
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: And so he he brought Patrick chunk back, and he
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: recognized that tight ends were turning into legitimate pass catchers
- 1:33:09Speaker 5: and they weren't gonna be able to just put linebackers
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: on tight ends anymore. That those guys are gonna be
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: receivers now. And they made Chung a tight end stopper,
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: and and that's how that position evolved. They this three
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: safety look is something that teams do in college against
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: air raid teams. They this is a tight front with
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: a three safety look is a college thing. And Bill
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: just did it for the first time maybe as an
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: NFL team that I've ever seen on Sunday night. So
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: he evolves defensively, he drafts guys, you know, like Dugger
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: and Marty Mapu and these guys that can play these
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: hybrid roles, and he's got all these different blurring lines.
- 1:33:43Speaker 5: But offensively, they just they just don't They they just
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: don't keep up with the times.
- 1:33:48Speaker 17: And I just.
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: But it's not it's not that he can't.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: I think it has to do with personalities. I think
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: it has to do with money.
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: And well, that's dumb. I'm giving him more credit than that.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I think it's like, you know, control of
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: the locker room. Who's going to be loyal to me.
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: Those are all the wrong reasons.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: Well, I'm just telling I think that all plays if.
- 1:34:13Speaker 9: You're really interested in doing what's in the best interest
- 1:34:16Speaker 9: of the team, those kinds of things shouldn't even fact.
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: But I think in his mind, money is and who's loyalty.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: I've got guys on my team that you know, it's
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: all me, me, me, me me. That's not going to
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: be good for the team. I think he feels that way,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: you know. And I think there's certain players that he
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: tries to avoid, you know, guys he doesn't want to
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: coach in that car.
- 1:34:35Speaker 9: Would you describe Travis Kelcey like that, I would. I
- 1:34:39Speaker 9: think he's sort of a spotlight guy, wants all the attention.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: So it was Gronkowski but you know, lately.
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: But I don't know. I don't know. I don't hate
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: Travis Kelcey all that much.
- 1:34:48Speaker 9: I'm not telling I didn't. I didn't ask you if
- 1:34:50Speaker 9: you hate it, but I don't. I think that he's
- 1:34:52Speaker 9: sort of like in that category, one of these guys.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean he doesn't work hard.
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: And I don't know if Tyreek Hill works hard. I
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: think he's not.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: I'm talking about Kelsey.
- 1:35:05Speaker 9: No, but I'm saying, like, what is like, why would
- 1:35:08Speaker 9: a coach openly say I don't want that because of what?
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: Because he's too good?
- 1:35:14Speaker 9: Like he's gonna be good, He's gonna be good, and
- 1:35:16Speaker 9: he's gonna want attention. Like no, like if you think
- 1:35:19Speaker 9: that he's good. Now, no one wants a lazy player
- 1:35:22Speaker 9: who doesn't work hard. No one wants that at any position.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:35:25Speaker 9: I don't think it's better to have a linebacker who
- 1:35:27Speaker 9: doesn't work hard than it is to have an offense.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's less like you know,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: the like outgoing personality more than if he doesn't get
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: his touches, he's gonna complain.
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: So what you know, it's your job to keep that
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: on the rest.
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: I know, but I think there was a little if
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: he's good enough too, he should be getting the touches regardless, right.
- 1:35:43Speaker 4: But I think it was probably in all seriousness.
- 1:35:46Speaker 9: And I know I don't like Tyreek Hill, so it's
- 1:35:47Speaker 9: probably gonna come off as well, you just don't like him.
- 1:35:49Speaker 9: I think there was an element of that with those
- 1:35:51Speaker 9: comments the other night about the fans. You know he's
- 1:35:54Speaker 9: got that he you know he I think he had
- 1:35:56Speaker 9: a huge impact on the game with his presence, but
- 1:36:00Speaker 9: he probably looks at it saying, I gotta get mine
- 1:36:03Speaker 9: five or forty in a touchdown, I gotta get.
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: Mine, you know, And these fans are yelling at me.
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: They're nasty.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: Here.
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: By the way, I wanted to ask another question. I
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: have to stream of consciousness. It's just coming here. He
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: said the quote they were saying things that I wouldn't
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: say in church.
- 1:36:20Speaker 10: So badly wanted to quote tweet that and be like, what.
- 1:36:23Speaker 9: Would you say in church that you wouldn't be comfortable
- 1:36:25Speaker 9: saying outside of church?
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: Also?
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: Right would you say it?
- 1:36:29Speaker 20: Like?
- 1:36:29Speaker 10: Also would you be comfortable going in church and breaking
- 1:36:32Speaker 10: your child's arm and beating your wife?
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: I'm not getting into that.
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: I'm crazy.
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: What like to me when I went to church? I
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: was on my bes.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: He missed the analogy. What he meant to say is
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: he said things.
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: Or something like that, but he said church.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: I said church because he messed it up.
- 1:36:49Speaker 10: I just like I did not like how he was
- 1:36:51Speaker 10: acting like he was holier than that, Like he's the
- 1:36:54Speaker 10: wrong person to be doing that. Now, if Matthew Slater
- 1:36:56Speaker 10: said that and said they were saying things to me
- 1:36:58Speaker 10: that you know you wouldn't stay in church.
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: Sure, but no I would.
- 1:37:01Speaker 9: I would say the same thing, it doesn't make sense, Matthew.
- 1:37:04Speaker 9: The only difference is I would have an opportunity to
- 1:37:06Speaker 9: go up to Matthew and say, Matthew.
- 1:37:08Speaker 6: What did that mean?
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: You bring up a good point? There passed metaphor.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: A lot of hot dog.
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: I will say.
- 1:37:19Speaker 10: Paul had a really good one on Twitter yesterday about
- 1:37:22Speaker 10: reading book.
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: Oh not really, I was just making fun of my
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: short book or something.
- 1:37:26Speaker 9: That chapter book and that chapter closed and that the
- 1:37:31Speaker 9: no that, yeah, I think stuff like that. That chapter
- 1:37:33Speaker 9: was closed in Patriots.
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: See him in the locker room? Did you ever see him? Also,
- 1:37:38Speaker 4: by the way, officially gone officially.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Let's get to the phone.
- 1:37:42Speaker 9: We're up to date on Patriots mark than ever when
- 1:37:44Speaker 9: Ronnie Perkins was signed by a Denver Patriots practice.
- 1:37:48Speaker 10: Also one more note, one more note in case Devon
- 1:37:50Speaker 10: Godchaw's not at practice tomorrow, baby girl today?
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: Oh okay, what's market takes Sunday.
- 1:37:57Speaker 12: Off to take all?
- 1:38:01Speaker 20: I got kind of a serious question.
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: I'll try to make it quick.
- 1:38:04Speaker 20: In like the Boston tradition where great players become great
- 1:38:08Speaker 20: coaches become great, great gms.
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: I mean, let's face it, Ara back and what he
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: has the best ever?
- 1:38:14Speaker 17: But Bill and Brady were.
- 1:38:16Speaker 20: You know, something we'll never see again ever. I mean,
- 1:38:18Speaker 20: and I would Brady ever consider coming back in like
- 1:38:21Speaker 20: a coach's position and have Bill go to management or
- 1:38:25Speaker 20: become his like Schenechiar something like that to bring Brady
- 1:38:28Speaker 20: back into the fold because he has so much knowledge
- 1:38:30Speaker 20: and we know he's a winner.
- 1:38:32Speaker 13: I mean this year when we come on, we've probably had.
- 1:38:34Speaker 20: About four or five years of this stuff coming up.
- 1:38:36Speaker 20: But you guys, ever considering Brady.
- 1:38:37Speaker 16: Coming back in with Bill.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: Great players don't always make good coaches.
- 1:38:41Speaker 18: That's he brought us to the seventh game with the
- 1:38:44Speaker 18: Stanley Cup.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, okay, he wasn't a great player, Tommy Heinsen.
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Tommy Heinsen wasn't a great player.
- 1:38:51Speaker 9: Tommy Heinsen absolutely wasn't great play. But that's a whole
- 1:38:55Speaker 9: different era.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but Ted Williams couldn't coach hitting.
- 1:38:59Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't think we have a great treatment at all,
- 1:39:01Speaker 9: you know, I mean, he's Tom Brady. I think he's
- 1:39:03Speaker 9: got I don't think Tom Brady doesn't watched at all.
- 1:39:06Speaker 9: In New England or Boston coaching.
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: Why would Tom Brady coach? Yeah, oh god, the hours
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: and the and all that stuff.
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: No way, Yeah, I'd be very surprised.
- 1:39:16Speaker 20: Zero and you know, two and fifteen lea games and four.
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: And listen, anything you could get to have Tom Brady
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: come back here, anything, any reason, you can have Tom
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: Brady here on for it. But he's not coming back
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: to coach here or anywhere. Thanks Mark, just to.
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: Ring the bell. He just rang in there.
- 1:39:32Speaker 5: He was fifty five.
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: But I went to school with that guy.
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: He said he was fifty five, and I thought he's
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: Terry O'Reilly.
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: I mean, I'm fifty four. I remember Terry Y.
- 1:39:41Speaker 5: Yeah, but you were young.
- 1:39:43Speaker 9: But he and he also just knows a coach and
- 1:39:45Speaker 9: you don't coach, y, Yes, you do as a coach
- 1:39:50Speaker 9: in the seventies, right, he played in the seventies, but
- 1:39:52Speaker 9: he coached, coached, and he was born.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: In the seventies and I know, but he was as
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: a player.
- 1:39:56Speaker 9: He was the coach that led the team that finally
- 1:39:59Speaker 9: broke the of curse in eighty eight. Now, I would
- 1:40:02Speaker 9: also say, as you know, Mike, I like to correct
- 1:40:04Speaker 9: in accuracies. They did not go to the seventh game
- 1:40:07Speaker 9: of the Stanley Cup Finals. They went to the Stanley
- 1:40:09Speaker 9: Cup Finals, where they were swept in four Okay.
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: Detailed he played till eighty four, eighty five. I was
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: like nine. I remember, I totally Yeah, I'm not surprised.
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: I remember Rayborn.
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Terry o'rally. You're lucky you do.
- 1:40:20Speaker 9: He was my Terry O'Reilly was a was a like
- 1:40:23Speaker 9: a third third line checking grinder who could fight, couldn't skate,
- 1:40:27Speaker 9: but he had some skills.
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: He would score twenty.
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: Even I know that.
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: Sorry, sorry, Todd's Todd.
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: That's true. Hey guys, first game a couple of weeks.
- 1:40:39Speaker 19: I know that you probably mentioned it already, but I
- 1:40:42Speaker 19: had to ticked my way to the doctor, so I'm
- 1:40:44Speaker 19: going to bring it up again, and I'm a little
- 1:40:46Speaker 19: bit upset about it. His answer, mister Belichick's answer after
- 1:40:51Speaker 19: they asked him, all why didn't Douglat's go back on,
- 1:40:53Speaker 19: and he said, yeah, well we had excellent or no,
- 1:40:55Speaker 19: we had very good.
- 1:40:56Speaker 9: Everybody had good games. The answer was everybody else had
- 1:40:59Speaker 9: a good game, but somehow they only sco at seventeen
- 1:41:02Speaker 9: points and only had two hundred and eighty yards so
- 1:41:05Speaker 9: is the game.
- 1:41:05Speaker 19: Isn't a chance that the game has gone past him?
- 1:41:08Speaker 19: Because he seems to be really good at coaching situations like, hey,
- 1:41:10Speaker 19: look they've locked that field goal that they can call
- 1:41:14Speaker 19: up certain defenses and stuff like I can take your
- 1:41:16Speaker 19: one guy away and make you play like this. But
- 1:41:19Speaker 19: they don't seem to be able to coach a game.
- 1:41:21Speaker 19: He doesn't seem to be able to manage a game.
- 1:41:23Speaker 19: I think Brady did that for him to a certain extent.
- 1:41:25Speaker 19: He kept the ball moving, he kept open on the field,
- 1:41:28Speaker 19: kept their you know, their opposing offense off especially you know,
- 1:41:33Speaker 19: seems like the cold set back in the day, and
- 1:41:35Speaker 19: you know, I think we're just he needs the synergy
- 1:41:38Speaker 19: and he doesn't give the offense enough credit. And I
- 1:41:42Speaker 19: don't know why he doesn't look at the offense and say, hey,
- 1:41:45Speaker 19: I need to have at least X level like a
- 1:41:48Speaker 19: floor for my offense. I don't want to. I don't
- 1:41:51Speaker 19: get it. He doesn't. He hasn't had that. He hasn't
- 1:41:53Speaker 19: seen that. Like when they when they lost Brady and
- 1:41:56Speaker 19: they hired that guy from the Carolina that the hairdo
- 1:41:59Speaker 19: guy I thought they was just couldn't throw.
- 1:42:01Speaker 18: A past by yards devoted Cam.
- 1:42:04Speaker 13: I was like, what are they doing?
- 1:42:05Speaker 19: I don't don't.
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: That's not right.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: I hear you, Okay. I mean when they signed Cam Newton,
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: we were all excited.
- 1:42:15Speaker 12: I was.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: We were hoping that he come back to form at
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: some point.
- 1:42:19Speaker 9: But you know, those are the bad takes that Paul
- 1:42:23Speaker 9: has that no one ever criticized. I'm not going to
- 1:42:26Speaker 9: be I'm not going to be high on someone that
- 1:42:28Speaker 9: didn't pan out.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: I'm not going to be a fraud and say, oh
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: I never liked that. I loved that we had a
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: special show for it. I think, right right from my
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: back door.
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: So I when it comes to in game management, though,
- 1:42:40Speaker 5: it's I don't think it's Brady. I think he misses Ernie.
- 1:42:42Speaker 5: I really think he misses Ernie.
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: I think it's all of it.
- 1:42:46Speaker 9: But I also think they had a lot of other
- 1:42:47Speaker 9: good players that were like the Mike Rabel types of
- 1:42:51Speaker 9: Teddy Brucen types that they were like coaches on the field.
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: They had a lot of let me.
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: But when it comes to like game management and like
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: decision like no pint, like challenge, no challenge like I
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: just remember you know, Edelman tells these great stories about
- 1:43:05Speaker 5: Ernie and like, you know, Bill referencing Ernie or saying,
- 1:43:09Speaker 5: you know, Ernie would do this, and I just who's
- 1:43:13Speaker 5: in his ear now, like who's managing the game for him?
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: Now?
- 1:43:16Speaker 9: A couple quick anecdotes related to this. Now we had
- 1:43:20Speaker 9: Matt Smith and I got a chance to talk to
- 1:43:22Speaker 9: Rodney Harrison for another Pats from the past that would
- 1:43:24Speaker 9: be I don't know if that's yeah, okay, so it
- 1:43:27Speaker 9: is out. So it was about a half a we
- 1:43:30Speaker 9: we talked a little bit about and I brought up
- 1:43:32Speaker 9: the the I think it's the three AFC Championship when
- 1:43:40Speaker 9: Rodney and Tie sort of switched spots in the secondary.
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: Evan, do you remember this?
- 1:43:45Speaker 9: They sort of, Okay, I know, I know it's early,
- 1:43:48Speaker 9: but I didn't know if you've got a chance to
- 1:43:49Speaker 9: go back and break down that I wish.
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: Now that I work for the Patriots, that's like actually
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: an off season dream of mind.
- 1:43:55Speaker 9: So basically without getting you know, you know, I don't
- 1:43:58Speaker 9: want to say things that I don't know what I'm
- 1:43:59Speaker 9: talking about. So very simplistically, Rodney went up in jams
- 1:44:04Speaker 9: the receivers while ty Law came back and sort of played.
- 1:44:07Speaker 9: They more or less switch from corner to safety roles.
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: That's what happened on Gonzo's pick.
- 1:44:11Speaker 9: Okay, yeah, so I had sort of asked them about that.
- 1:44:16Speaker 9: It was just something that Bill had come up with it.
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: No, we did it.
- 1:44:21Speaker 9: We did it on our own, and we went to
- 1:44:23Speaker 9: Bill and said we think that we could do it,
- 1:44:24Speaker 9: and Bill said, well, if you guys think that'll work,
- 1:44:26Speaker 9: go ahead. This is kind of what I'm talking about.
- 1:44:29Speaker 9: They had players that were on the field that were
- 1:44:31Speaker 9: like coaches, that could understand concepts and schemes and at
- 1:44:36Speaker 9: times maybe even knew as much, if not more than
- 1:44:39Speaker 9: the guys that were telling them what to do.
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: And it worked.
- 1:44:42Speaker 9: The other anecdote I'll say is from the last Super Bowl,
- 1:44:46Speaker 9: the one in Atlanta that they beat the Rams thirteen
- 1:44:48Speaker 9: to three. Do you remember how that game unfolded. It's
- 1:44:50Speaker 9: ten to three, Patriots is trying to run the clock out,
- 1:44:53Speaker 9: and it's like fourth down in a yard and there
- 1:44:56Speaker 9: is this big conversation on the sideline and finally Brady
- 1:44:59Speaker 9: just what are we doing?
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: Just kick the field goal?
- 1:45:02Speaker 9: The game is over, right, like Ernie's there, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:45:05Speaker 9: Bill's there, And the quarterback had to say, what are
- 1:45:08Speaker 9: we even talking about again?
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: Like Dan Campbell, I'm allergic to kicking.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: No, just kick it.
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: The game's over. Once we made Once we kicked the
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: oblong big skin through the h we'll all be exhilarated.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know, going back to the whole thing
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: about it that way, how Bill treats the defense differently
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: than the offense, and he favors the defense. And you know,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: just something that came to mind. And you know, like
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: there've been guys on defense like Tully Bandacaine, James Sanders
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: that he extended from like money, and it's like, well,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: he's given them a little bit more money than I
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: think there was.
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: Well, Sanders is definitely one of those.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: Has he ever done that for an offensive guy? Like
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: a guy that he's like, why is he giving him that? Lineman?
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: Yeah, like Shaq.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: DeVante Parker but more than this, but more than we
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: thought he was worth.
- 1:45:53Speaker 9: Oh yeah, like guards, he's given guards like top of
- 1:45:56Speaker 9: the market money and Tuney and maybe to.
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: Friend's point, wait, we would not skill guys. They want
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: a free agency and Stefan Gilmore it's the chefter right
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: boom Patriots pay Steffon Gilmore massive contract.
- 1:46:09Speaker 9: I don't they don't do that if at all, But
- 1:46:12Speaker 9: they don't do that often with offensive guys. Yeah, but
- 1:46:15Speaker 9: definitely not skilled.
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: Now I will say that offensively, especially in the last
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: like let's say half decade, you need to trade for
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: those receivers, either draft him or te because they don't
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: like T. Higgins is not going to be an unrestricted
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: free agent, right, Like he's not going to be available
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: as a free agent in March, like you know a
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: bunch of other players. Yes, I don't think he will be.
- 1:46:35Speaker 5: They'll extend him before I think they'll I think they'll
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: trade him on the franchise tag or trade him before
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: that point. Okay, yeah, yeah, so they they'll find a
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: way to leverage that into getting something for T. Higgins.
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: That's more than just a compic. Right, So those got
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: you have pretty cheap. You have to aggree. You have
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: to aggressively pursue those guys, is my point. In the
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: trade market, like Tyree kill A J. Brown, Stefon Diggs,
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: like those guys got trade Adams. Yeah, they don't just
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: come available.
- 1:47:01Speaker 9: Even like lesser guy like Marquis Brown, like you have
- 1:47:05Speaker 9: some some modicum of talent at that position, you have
- 1:47:09Speaker 9: to trade for him if you want to just can't
- 1:47:10Speaker 9: find that sweet.
- 1:47:11Speaker 8: Spot of like the Welker restricted free agent or the
- 1:47:13Speaker 8: Randy Moss distressed asset, you know, those kind of things
- 1:47:16Speaker 8: like they just haven't they haven't really been out.
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: There for him to those are his favorites.
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: Yeah, zach'son Boston. What's up, Zach?
- 1:47:24Speaker 21: I got Thanks for taking my call. You know, I
- 1:47:28Speaker 21: just wanted to say that I don't think as far
- 1:47:31Speaker 21: as the offense and speed, I don't think it's far off.
- 1:47:36Speaker 21: You know, back when we had Brady so the same
- 1:47:38Speaker 21: type of receivers we always had and we made it
- 1:47:40Speaker 21: work with him. So you know, I really don't understand
- 1:47:43Speaker 21: that part. But I just wanted to say one thing
- 1:47:46Speaker 21: one call, and I brought up Patrick Chung and you know,
- 1:47:50Speaker 21: I got into an argument with my brother about Patrick Chung,
- 1:47:53Speaker 21: I want to say last week, and I called Patrick
- 1:47:56Speaker 21: Chung a tightening a tight end race there. You know,
- 1:48:00Speaker 21: I remember in twenty fifteen when Pat Chung held Travis
- 1:48:05Speaker 21: kelce to I think it was twelve yards and he
- 1:48:08Speaker 21: also covered t Y Hilton that that year and he
- 1:48:12Speaker 21: l t l I Hilton till like twelve yards, And
- 1:48:14Speaker 21: I said that, you know, I don't believe that Kyle
- 1:48:17Speaker 21: Dugger is there yet. I don't think he can cover
- 1:48:20Speaker 21: tight ends as well as Pat Chung did, And I
- 1:48:22Speaker 21: just want to know y'all start doing that.
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: Well. I don't think that that's a covering tight ends
- 1:48:27Speaker 5: is an issue, Like I don't think that that's something
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: that we're really I.
- 1:48:31Speaker 9: Don't think Douger is great cover. I also think that
- 1:48:35Speaker 9: what Bill used to do is what he did on Sunday,
- 1:48:39Speaker 9: Like we're going to limit Tyreek Hill, he limited Travis Kelsey.
- 1:48:43Speaker 9: How many points of Kansas City score that night? Do
- 1:48:45Speaker 9: you guys remember, I don't know forty forty?
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: Now the Patriots scored how many forty three?
- 1:48:50Speaker 6: Three?
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: Yeah, a game winning field.
- 1:48:52Speaker 9: Goal because I know block your ears might so Tom Brady,
- 1:48:56Speaker 9: because Tom Brady recognizes that we're in a shootout. They
- 1:48:59Speaker 9: went over to twenty five and he didn't say, well,
- 1:49:01Speaker 9: we tried. But I also just put forty three on
- 1:49:04Speaker 9: the board in one.
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: Anyway, maybe their weapons now or not or are not
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: that far off to twenty years ago at the beginning
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: part of the dynasty, but one that was twenty years ago.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: But here's where I have to come clean and say,
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: I'm not sure that it was the same game. But
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: I'm just gonna go game I may not have been
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: the game that Kelsey only had twelve years.
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: I was very convincing.
- 1:49:27Speaker 9: I think I want to come clean before the ship
- 1:49:29Speaker 9: before the show as wrong, wrong, Paul.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: They only lost twenty seven to.
- 1:49:35Speaker 17: Twenty that night.
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure you're right. I think it was the
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: forty three they that was the game that they they
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: stood up. I think it was High Tower and I
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: think Tyreek Hill that was his two hundred year night.
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: So they stood High Tower up over Kelsey, and every
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: time Kelsey released off the line of scrimmage, High Tower
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: just put a forearm into it.
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: It's like, I like your favorite thing.
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: Yeah No, but I like Patrick Chung, and I do
- 1:49:57Speaker 9: think that what Evan said about him earlier is accurate.
- 1:49:59Speaker 9: The changed completely the way they used Chung the second
- 1:50:02Speaker 9: time around. I don't think he was necessarily a tight
- 1:50:05Speaker 9: end or race.
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: I think Harrison was the tight end.
- 1:50:09Speaker 9: If they had if they had Rodney Harrison right in
- 1:50:13Speaker 9: the two thousand and six, they would put Rodney Dallash
- 1:50:17Speaker 9: Clark wouldn't have done a thing right. I wasn't even
- 1:50:19Speaker 9: there for this conversation and I feel like the same
- 1:50:22Speaker 9: with me.
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: Same with me. I was there either, but it's just
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: has become a show thing anytime Dallas Clark or Rodney here.
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: But why have to say Dallas Dallas Clark.
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: Why do we think that their weapons are equal to
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman?
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: And I think that's what gets lost in like the
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: you know, and the everything. No actually need a wide
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: receiver and it's like, well, they could get an amazing
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: tight end to that. I didn't want to.
- 1:50:44Speaker 9: I know, the guy was a little you could tell
- 1:50:46Speaker 9: he was down just about the state of the team.
- 1:50:48Speaker 9: So I don't want to jump in even if you
- 1:50:50Speaker 9: wanted to decide I agree with you guys. You know
- 1:50:52Speaker 9: you're just missing Gronk and Edelman and and the other
- 1:50:55Speaker 9: players that they've had. But even if you want to
- 1:50:56Speaker 9: make that argument and say it's roughly the same as
- 1:50:59Speaker 9: it was in the glory days, how you can just
- 1:51:02Speaker 9: sort of flippantly just ignore the fact that you had
- 1:51:04Speaker 9: the greatest player whoever played, right, that's the difference, Like, yeah,
- 1:51:08Speaker 9: maybe maybe the personnel around Brady wasn't all that different
- 1:51:12Speaker 9: than it is now.
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: I would argue it is. I would argue Brady had
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: far more to work with in most of those years.
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: But what's the difference between the greatest quarterback of all time?
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: Even three or four, when yes, they had a great defense.
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: There were games where Brady would pass for three hundred
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: and sixty yards in three touchdowns.
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: Four there was as stacked as you could get.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Right, and you know, like so even with lesser receivers,
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: Brady made them better. David Gibbons, what did he ever
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: do when he left?
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: You know, like people like that it's bilitating knee injury. Yeah, tragic,
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: Actually it was career ended.
- 1:51:45Speaker 9: I would absolutely love a Dion Branch right about now.
- 1:51:48Speaker 9: Please give me Branch, Givens, Troy Brown and David Patton.
- 1:51:52Speaker 9: That's not better than what you have right now.
- 1:51:53Speaker 8: Right And that's what you know, to tie it back
- 1:51:55Speaker 8: to your point of you know, kind of having to
- 1:51:57Speaker 8: go out and get these guys and really have to,
- 1:51:58Speaker 8: you know, be aggressive.
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: And it's like if they hadn't hit on Gronk, who was, you.
- 1:52:02Speaker 8: Know, himself a distressed asset, and the draft and Julian Edelman,
- 1:52:05Speaker 8: you know what would have happen over those last ten
- 1:52:07Speaker 8: years if they hadn't Because it doesn't seem like they
- 1:52:09Speaker 8: want to go out and get those guys. They just
- 1:52:10Speaker 8: happen to hit on them. And then you go back
- 1:52:12Speaker 8: to like the drafts, it's like they didn't hit on
- 1:52:14Speaker 8: more of those guys. You know, they didn't hit on
- 1:52:15Speaker 8: another tight end after Gronk, they didn't hit on another
- 1:52:17Speaker 8: receiver after Edelman, and you know, and here we are.
- 1:52:19Speaker 10: I still want to know who this comes down to.
- 1:52:22Speaker 10: It's like I feel like, obviously growing his team are
- 1:52:24Speaker 10: doing the work, but it's like I feel like it's
- 1:52:28Speaker 10: not being received, like they're doing the work, and I'm
- 1:52:30Speaker 10: sure they have those these great players on their boards.
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: And then Bill's just.
- 1:52:34Speaker 10: Like, no, I want these guys on defense, and it's
- 1:52:37Speaker 10: just it's unfortunate.
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't.
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: I think for Billy thinks defense is safer picks. I
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: understand it more. I can scout it better, and there's
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: less of a chance something to that, there's less of
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: a chance of fail if we take the guy that
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: we like on defense.
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: And it's just a that they want to win this
- 1:52:57Speaker 5: type of way. They want to win, playing the game
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: in the high teens in the low twenties, and they're
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: gonna count on the defense to carry them. But in
- 1:53:07Speaker 5: the defense for the most part in the first two
- 1:53:09Speaker 5: weeks has has has carried them. But when you need
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: the plays in the fourth quarter and you know, they
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: don't have the playmakers for Mac to really go to
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: in the game, and they don't have, you know, an
- 1:53:20Speaker 5: all World Hall of Fame Tom Brady level quarterback, it's like, Okay,
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: well he held them twenty four points, So what good
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: did it do. I feel like this is just.
- 1:53:29Speaker 10: Getting like stale, and like he can't continue to live
- 1:53:32Speaker 10: like this, especially down the stretch when you're gonna have
- 1:53:34Speaker 10: even more injuries, Like injuries happen. You have three corners
- 1:53:37Speaker 10: down right now, like who else is gonna get hurt?
- 1:53:39Speaker 10: And it's like you can't you can't avoid that happening.
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: It's gonna happen.
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: It was a recent interview he Bill did and he
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: used the words sustainable. Well, that's not sustainable. I think
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: he was talking about the rams maybe or something like that.
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: Maybe he feels like building a good defense is more
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: sustainable over a course of c than building a great
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: offense just because of the money.
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: I don't know, Well, why not have good a balance?
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: Though I'm not saying he's right. Yeah, I'm just thinking that.
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: I don't think he's right if that's what he's thinking.
- 1:54:11Speaker 8: And I mean, and to that point, like I've always
- 1:54:13Speaker 8: thinking a little little anecdote of you know, defense is
- 1:54:16Speaker 8: about destroying.
- 1:54:17Speaker 4: An offense is about creating. It's harder to create things,
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: you know, like you would think, like it's harder to
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: go I need to put more effort into the offensive
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: side of the ball to get guys who can make
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: something out of nothing instead of like, you know, you
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: just see the look on key on White's face, and
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: you're like, you're gonna go destroying offense, you know.
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: With just a look.
- 1:54:33Speaker 12: You know.
- 1:54:33Speaker 9: It's just you can make an argument that the way
- 1:54:35Speaker 9: the game has evolved, it's kind of harder to stop somebody.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: Now, Yeah, I mean, is it like don't even try anymore? Though,
- 1:54:41Speaker 4: It's like it's like you can only get to a
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: certain level.
- 1:54:43Speaker 9: And then Bill would never get to the Nick sabe
- 1:54:45Speaker 9: and comment that has gotten so much attention over the
- 1:54:47Speaker 9: last four or five years when he said that, But yeah,
- 1:54:51Speaker 9: like devote more time to replang it, Like, I don't
- 1:54:55Speaker 9: think it's harder to keep an offense together. I don't,
- 1:54:57Speaker 9: First of all, we all know what I think about money,
- 1:54:59Speaker 9: and we don't have to get into that this late
- 1:55:00Speaker 9: in the show. But I think that might be part
- 1:55:03Speaker 9: of it too. I think Bill does very much still
- 1:55:05Speaker 9: believe in the economics of the of the structure, and
- 1:55:08Speaker 9: that's another to me philosophy that's past its time. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:55:13Speaker 9: do you think when you most recently with Patrick Mahomes yesterday.
- 1:55:16Speaker 8: Like on when you this offseason will be kind of
- 1:55:18Speaker 8: a barometer for how he feels because they feel like
- 1:55:20Speaker 8: if they kind of overextend themselves to keep on when
- 1:55:22Speaker 8: you're nothing against him when you But I just think
- 1:55:25Speaker 8: we can all agree at this point, like you can
- 1:55:26Speaker 8: find a guard. You just drafted two guards, like yeah,
- 1:55:28Speaker 8: I need they need more and to like sign him
- 1:55:31Speaker 8: to a contract or to franchise him.
- 1:55:33Speaker 9: Unless he signs like a really reasonable deal, I'd be
- 1:55:37Speaker 9: stunned if he comes back because of what you said.
- 1:55:38Speaker 9: The second thing, you know, I have Mafi, I have so,
- 1:55:41Speaker 9: I have Jake Andrews. I have to have one of
- 1:55:45Speaker 9: these guys that should.
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: Have seventy six million dollars in cap space projected right
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: now next year for the Patriots.
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: He saw something that was more than that well.
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: Miguel has its seventy se okay, I trust I try
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: to trust him. I do, he has it ad seventy
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: six million. So there's a lot that goes into that
- 1:56:02Speaker 5: of how many guys are really signed for next year
- 1:56:05Speaker 5: that are impact players for you, that aren't just rookie
- 1:56:08Speaker 5: you know, on rookie contracts from the last couple of
- 1:56:10Speaker 5: drafts and stuff like that, and you know, and when
- 1:56:13Speaker 5: he was obviously a big one dugger ouch. But a
- 1:56:16Speaker 5: lot of the reason why they have so much cap
- 1:56:17Speaker 5: space because they don't have a lot of players.
- 1:56:19Speaker 9: I mean, we're all talking about how the offense is struggled.
- 1:56:22Speaker 9: Who had been two of the better players on offense,
- 1:56:24Speaker 9: Henry and Kaseki, right, ye, they're both up.
- 1:56:27Speaker 5: Especially Henry, and they have no tight ends and they
- 1:56:29Speaker 5: got it.
- 1:56:29Speaker 8: They're gonna have to rebuild the tight end group and
- 1:56:31Speaker 8: the and the offensive line essentially.
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: I mean, it's I think it's just Als Parker and
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: ju Jules back.
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: What's up? Al al al big aal al you're there,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: Yeah he is, Yes, Hey.
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: So first time caller, a longtime listener. I think the
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: one of the first episodes I listened to is when
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: Fred absolutely dominated Andy and the contest.
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: Oh and killed him?
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: Don't well I did real push up?
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: Yes, you did right, he's got short arms.
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: Though I've emailed a couple of times, I'm gonna try
- 1:57:05Speaker 3: to keep it short. But first I want to, like
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: Paul side in the street a little bit and fight
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: with the fans about something they haven't even argued yet.
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: I'll bet they have.
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: How's a good listener. I can tell you he knows
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: you go ahead.
- 1:57:21Speaker 3: I feel like a lot of people give build a
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: coach a pass because talent isn't the same as other
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: teams have, and they give Bill a GM a pass
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: because he's such a great coach. But I think at
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: this point we've we've just gotten to the point where
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: he's not a good enough coach to out coach Build
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: a GM every If you go into every week without
- 1:57:50Speaker 3: talent that can match up like you're you're gonna win
- 1:57:54Speaker 3: less often than you lose. And I think the way
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: that this team has played the start, if Rogers was healthy,
- 1:58:02Speaker 3: I would really see them going zero to four. And
- 1:58:04Speaker 3: this is like four years after Brady left to like this,
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: This isn't a rebuilding team. This is the team and
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: it still kind of looks like this. I don't know
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: what happens when Bill leaves, but I think it might
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: be time to find out. And I know it's probably
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: a little bit early to start talking about Paul's little pole,
- 1:58:26Speaker 3: but I think we might be headed down that road
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: this year.
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: All right, hey, listen, Al, that's a good call.
- 1:58:33Speaker 9: No, it is a good call, and he's not you know,
- 1:58:37Speaker 9: I think the way he put it is true. So
- 1:58:39Speaker 9: now you're going into games with less talent than the
- 1:58:41Speaker 9: other team consistently. Is he a good enough coach to
- 1:58:44Speaker 9: overcome it enough to make you a playoff team?
- 1:58:47Speaker 19: Yeah?
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: Well, you know we're going to find out, because a
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: lot of the games this year, the other team's gonna
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: have one.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: We'll solve that tomorrow's show at noon. As for this show,
