- 0:07is thinking but louder and probably a little
- 0:09crazier get ready this is fanatically speaking
- 0:12with kent and log off you know what's funny like
- 0:15i don't hate i don't i'm not a social media hater
- 0:18i'm a social media I don't want people to think
- 0:25that I get on the internet and start hating people
- 0:27on social media. That's not what I do. The first
- 0:29half was absolutely, absolutely horrible. You
- 0:33know, just inept offense, inept defense, special
- 0:37teams, you name it. I'm going to turn into Oprah.
- 0:40Why were you so angry? He sucks this season.
- 0:45This game, whatever, whatever's going on, right?
- 0:47And then in the very next pitch, guess what?
- 0:50They double Homer. And he's like, told you that.
- 0:53Why are you always knocking down people? Listen,
- 0:56you got the highs and the lows. Yeah, so I knew
- 0:58that. You need the highs and the lows. So I do
- 1:01that, yeah. I'm trying to be the voice of reason
- 1:04here. I am what I am. Hey, what's up, everybody?
- 1:20Welcome to another episode of Fanatically Speaking.
- 1:22I'm Kent, the co -host and promoter. I am Log
- 1:24Off, the Log Off legend, hater of social media.
- 1:27I'm the co -host and producer of the show. And
- 1:30this week, what we're going to do is we're going
- 1:31to change things up a little bit. We're going
- 1:33to ask some questions and just kind of dive into
- 1:36them as best as we can. I want to ask you a bunch
- 1:38of questions. I want to have them answered immediately.
- 1:41The first question that we have this week is,
- 1:44which quarterbacks in the NFL do we think should
- 1:46hang it up? Now typically when you think about
- 1:49that question you think about older quarterbacks
- 1:51quarterbacks that are a little bit longer in
- 1:52the tooth But this qualifies to all quarterbacks
- 1:55and I'm curious what you got kid. But what do
- 1:58you think? Yeah, I think I think sometimes careers
- 2:01end early I also think though sometimes the NFL
- 2:05gives up on guys early and it's Certain guys,
- 2:09but you know, I've seen I've seen the NFL, you
- 2:12know give up on a Donovan McNabb a Cam Newton
- 2:17a Steve McNair, but they also gave up on like
- 2:22a Kurt Warner. The Rams gave up on him, even
- 2:25as good as he was. The Giants just had him, gave
- 2:28up on him, and then he resurrected his career
- 2:30in Arizona again to have a Hall of Fame career.
- 2:36So it's a tricky, you know, it's a tricky, it's
- 2:39a tricky, right, basically, because you would
- 2:43think the NFL, Baker Mayfield, it was over. Sam
- 2:47Darnold, it was over. Daniel Jones, it was over.
- 2:52Like this season in general, they've been able
- 2:54to show that they can still play. So sometimes
- 2:58it's true. You think it's over for guys, but
- 3:02amazingly this year there's three guys. Baker's
- 3:06done it for a few years now, but I think there's
- 3:08multiple guys this year, like we just talked
- 3:11about, that have done it. And looking at that
- 3:17kind of big picture, when you think about the
- 3:20quarterbacks in the league that have bad coaching
- 3:23situations, and I actually think about this,
- 3:26and I'm not gonna get too Eagles heavy, but a
- 3:29quarterback like Jalen Hurts, who's had constant
- 3:32carousel changes with the coaching staff, head
- 3:34coaches, offensive coordinators, and it's a big
- 3:40thing that I don't think people think about.
- 3:42that affects a quarterback's development, especially
- 3:44young quarterbacks and quarterbacks that have
- 3:46unique skill sets. So, you know, you're talking
- 3:49about like a Daniel Jones who was, you know,
- 3:51a rare white running quarterback. He was super
- 3:54crazy athletic, had some running ability, you
- 3:57know, paired with Saquon Barkley of all players
- 3:59and they still couldn't find a way to make that
- 4:01work. He leaves, goes somewhere else and has,
- 4:04you know, one of the best starts of the season,
- 4:07you know, for any team in the league this year.
- 4:09So that's I think that is a big point with you
- 4:12know Maybe not to give up on quarterbacks a little
- 4:14too early But I'm gonna be clear the people that
- 4:17I have on my list who need to hang it up. They
- 4:20got to go Okay, ain't no help for them So if
- 4:23you want to throw a name out there you can or
- 4:25I can go ahead and just start up You know taking
- 4:28a blowtorch to people because I'm ready and these
- 4:31are quarterbacks that are playing right now These
- 4:33are active quarterbacks in the NFL that are currently
- 4:36signed to teams in one way or another They're
- 4:38being paid by NFL teams, and we think that they
- 4:41should hang it up. Okay. You're probably going
- 4:44to say Kirk Cousins. Kirk Cousins is definitely
- 4:49one, and he's another journeyman quarterback.
- 4:52Traveled around. He's made a lot of money, you
- 4:54know, capitalizing on that franchise tag, you
- 4:57know, type contract. He's made a lot of money.
- 5:00a lot of money freelance hired gun quarterback
- 5:04and I think his his obviously injuries and age
- 5:07of kind of caught up with him you know he's not
- 5:10the most athletic quarterback anyway but Kirk
- 5:11cursor certainly one of one of the names on my
- 5:14list the other name I'm gonna say is probably
- 5:17come a little out of nowhere because I think
- 5:19he's still in his athletic prime but I don't
- 5:22want to see Deshaun Watson play another snap
- 5:24in the NFL dude no I don't blame you there I
- 5:27mean Not one more snap, not one more snap. When
- 5:30you talk about guys who, and this is like a whole
- 5:33different topic, but guys who just fell off,
- 5:36he fell off. Now, unfortunately, he fell off
- 5:40after he got paid, scandal, all these things.
- 5:44So now he's injured and he was injured before,
- 5:47even when he got signed or traded. So yeah, I
- 5:52mean, that's a really good one. I don't think
- 5:54anybody really cares. Don't think anybody cares
- 5:57to watch him play again Yeah, nobody wants to
- 6:00see him play again and and just thinking about
- 6:02it like Like bird's -eye view of Deshaun Watson
- 6:07so you think about so all the scandal and stuff
- 6:10that You know that that happened with him all
- 6:12the allegations and the lawsuits the injuries
- 6:15on top of it Then he had his let the last year
- 6:17he played was a horrific year Terrible, you know
- 6:20stats, you know wasn't a good locker room type
- 6:23guy But the other thing is, is name another team
- 6:26that's gonna take a chance on him to begin with.
- 6:28No one wants to take that risk with the legal
- 6:31issues that he had coupled with the injuries.
- 6:34Then you add that he was a bad player. He came
- 6:37in highly touted, he had all the potential in
- 6:39the world to be great. and it just didn't work
- 6:41out for him. Yeah, I think that guy should go
- 6:44and you know fully guaranteed first fully fully
- 6:46guaranteed contract ever in NFL history. He's
- 6:48got the money. He'll be OK. I don't feel bad
- 6:50for him. He put himself in this situation. Yeah,
- 6:53I don't ever want to see him play a snap and
- 6:55I don't think any fans of any other teams want
- 6:57to see that either. No, and again, it's a it's
- 7:00it's different topics, but he could be a sports
- 7:02villain. He could be a guy who fell off all these
- 7:06things. And if he had the talent, a team would
- 7:08take a chance. We've learned that in sports.
- 7:10Correct. Sports don't care. They want to win.
- 7:12Sports don't care. They don't care. Yeah. I mean,
- 7:15yeah, teams brought in Michael Vick after, you
- 7:17know, he did, you know, a year and a half in
- 7:18prison. Right. So yeah. So if you can play, if
- 7:20you can show that, yeah, they'll absolutely bring
- 7:22you in and give you a shot. Yeah. I mean, you
- 7:24know, there's teams waiting on Henry Ruggs, you
- 7:27know? So Deshaun Watson, last time he was good
- 7:31was in Houston. He wasn't really good, I think.
- 7:35at the end of that Houston stint. And then in
- 7:39Cleveland, he's never really showed us anything.
- 7:43So everything combined, yeah, that's a really
- 7:45good one to just say, hey, maybe just hang it
- 7:46up. Maybe just go live your life and don't come
- 7:50back. Yeah. Out of sight, out of mind. I do have
- 7:53another name. It's probably a little more controversial.
- 7:56I did want to just kind of land, land the segment
- 7:59with it. Do you have any names that kind of stand
- 8:01out to you? Mean we could talk about those although
- 8:05we talked about kind of an old and young guys
- 8:07And guys that the league gave up on or they just
- 8:10we just said, you know, they it's got to go I
- 8:15Don't have any more names I was just gonna talk
- 8:17about how you know, it's funny how some guys
- 8:19get picked up off their couch No matter how it
- 8:23doesn't matter how old they are. Joe Flacco keeps
- 8:25getting jobs Yes Jake and Jake DeLone used to
- 8:29just keep getting jobs Vinnie Testa Verde There's
- 8:34a really good one and that's a different that's
- 8:36a different Category than like the Aaron Rodgers
- 8:40the Tom Brady the Brett Farbs the Warren Moons
- 8:43who played up into their 40 Yes, no, that's true
- 8:47and and there is a you know, just kind of a I
- 8:51Want to say, you know Ryan Fitzpatrick was another
- 8:54one of those types of guys. He played everywhere,
- 8:56you know, Josh McCown was another one of those
- 8:59guys, you know, who could just just keep getting
- 9:01jobs, being on rosters. But the other guy that
- 9:04I'm going to say should hang it up. And, you
- 9:06know, I'm glad we're not in the same room, but
- 9:08I'm going to go ahead and take out Carson Wentz.
- 9:12OK, now I am going to use your own point that
- 9:15you just made. And I'm going to use that as a
- 9:18part of my argument, which is the fact that not
- 9:21only has he been bounced around quite a bit.
- 9:24And there always seems to be those guys that,
- 9:26you know, much like a Joe Flacco where it's like,
- 9:28yep, let's just bring this guy in. I don't know
- 9:31what Carson Wentz is like in a locker room, but
- 9:35having a good locker room guy is key in the NFL.
- 9:38And we've seen guys who have careers for years
- 9:42past their prom, past their, you know, their
- 9:46impact on the field to actually be able to help
- 9:48a team win. because they're a really good teammate
- 9:50because they know that they can have to help
- 9:52help guys along. And, and you know, when, when
- 9:55the going gets tough, they're the guys who've
- 9:57got to say the speeches in the locker room, you
- 9:58know, they're the ones that kind of, you know,
- 10:00help a rookie, you know, understand what the
- 10:02practice scheme is, you know, read playbooks,
- 10:04understanding things like that. I don't know.
- 10:06I can't speak to that about Carson Wentz. I don't
- 10:08know, but from everything that I've seen about
- 10:12his career, it seems like no one wants him to
- 10:15be on their roster long -term. And of course,
- 10:19we see what happened with him this year. He had,
- 10:22you know, he got an opportunity to play, got
- 10:25injured. There is some controversy there because
- 10:28they felt like he threw, he feels like he, they
- 10:30threw them out, threw him out there to protect,
- 10:32you know, their, you know, their, their draft
- 10:34pick and JJ McCarthy. But for me, I just think
- 10:37it's like, I feel like the tapes run out on them
- 10:41and it's probably time for him to take a step
- 10:43back. I know you disagree. I'm going to go ahead
- 10:46and shut up. Go ahead and give me what you got.
- 10:49No, I disagree. I don't know if he's a everyday
- 10:52starter in the league, but I think he's been
- 10:55good enough to be a backup, right? It seemed
- 10:57like he had a good connection with Jefferson
- 10:59in Minnesota. I mean, he still can make plays.
- 11:04but he also has that, he's like a Jameis Winston,
- 11:06right? He can show you these flashes still of
- 11:09these great. Jameis is another good one. Hold
- 11:11on, great locker room guy with his own set of
- 11:15issues. You won't hear of any players that he's
- 11:19played with say a bad thing about Jameis. He's
- 11:22a good locker room guy, really good rah rah guy.
- 11:25Yeah, and not everybody's that, and it's gonna
- 11:28play into some of this too. But Wentz, yeah,
- 11:31I mean, I think he still could be a backup. I
- 11:32think he's serviceable, especially if you just
- 11:35go look at every roster and look at their quarterbacks.
- 11:38You'll be like, yeah, I take Carson Wentz over
- 11:40that guy. And that's what I always say is like,
- 11:42maybe he's not a starter. I used to say that.
- 11:45Maybe he's not an everyday starter for a franchise.
- 11:49But he's better than a lot of these backups and
- 11:51a lot of guys that these teams have right now
- 11:55on their roster. The other thing I was gonna
- 11:57bring up is. not every guy like you talk about
- 12:00not every guy can be a backup and and stay in
- 12:03the league forever and do that mentor and that
- 12:06rah rah like Jamis and One of those guys I mentioned
- 12:09earlier was like cam Newton I felt like the league
- 12:11gave up on him at one point where he could still
- 12:14offer you something I Think but at the same time
- 12:18he wasn't gonna be a backup is You know just
- 12:21because of the way I mean of who he is. That's
- 12:24just not his thing. So I think there's a lot
- 12:27of guys like that. They may just say, hey, I'm
- 12:28gonna step away. If I can't play anymore, I'm
- 12:30done. They don't wanna be a backup. I think it's
- 12:34a two, there's two sides to it, right? The league
- 12:37gives up or the player just says, I can't do
- 12:39it anymore. And then there's that backup role
- 12:41they could hang on and still play. Cuz I don't
- 12:44think we're just talking about like just starting.
- 12:47We're talking about just guys staying in the
- 12:49league. Yeah, I'm talking about guys that need
- 12:52to go away. Yes, I'm talking about guys who need
- 12:54to go into their secondary sports career. Yeah,
- 12:59but at the same time, it's a paycheck. They want
- 13:02to hang on as long as they can. But Deshaun Watson
- 13:07definitely is one that would be one you just
- 13:10say, yeah, go sit down. Just go retire. Do whatever.
- 13:14I don't think Like I said a team doesn't want
- 13:17to don't really want you fans don't want you
- 13:21Based on everything personal personal life Scandal
- 13:26and your play on the football field is a big
- 13:29combination there True true and and I'll just
- 13:33I'll kind of end on this You mentioned cam and
- 13:37the thing about cam Newton that you know I'll
- 13:41throw out there and give him his flowers is he
- 13:44might be the best college football quarterback
- 13:47of all time. That team that he had at Auburn
- 13:51that he dragged to a national championship and
- 13:53won on his back. It's it's unprecedented. It
- 13:57wasn't pretty, but they won that game purely
- 14:00because of him being an athletic specimen that
- 14:02helped him in his career. Even though his career
- 14:04wasn't crazy long. but he's also a really really
- 14:07big personality we saw the things that he's doing
- 14:09right now you see those hats that he wears he
- 14:12he needs the attention and he needs everybody
- 14:14all eyes on him it's hard to have that do second
- 14:17third on the depth chart behind your young up
- 14:20-and -coming quarterback who just wants to show
- 14:22up and punches clock every day and go home you
- 14:25know and candidate is opportunities in new england
- 14:28you know i think you got a good enough run there
- 14:31I wouldn't say that he probably needed to hang
- 14:34it up, but it's kind of hard for some of those
- 14:35guys. The names that we're throwing out there,
- 14:38they were never huge quarterback names. And I
- 14:41think that's why we're like, okay, yeah, dude,
- 14:43you can go ahead and step away. It's okay for
- 14:45us to never see you again. That was probably
- 14:50one of the greatest, if not, like you said, greatest
- 14:52seasons for a quarterback in college football.
- 14:55Cuz he only had the one at Auburn. And then -
- 14:59you know he's never officially retired and he
- 15:02won't he won't say the words or he won't do it
- 15:04he feels like he doesn't have to so that's the
- 15:07other thing about cam in the nfl is he you know
- 15:09he won't retire which which might be holding
- 15:11him back for the panthers honoring him so somebody's
- 15:15gonna have to give one day there i mean cam will
- 15:19be fine he'll be all right he's doing enough
- 15:21we see his face enough but he'll never throw
- 15:24another nfl pass again so even if even if he
- 15:27hasn't retired officially like turned into paperwork
- 15:29we know what it is and you know and not only
- 15:32that in the nfl him the only thing him not turning
- 15:35in that paperwork is doing is just delaying you
- 15:37know the pension that he gets from being a player
- 15:39he'll collect it when he files that paperwork
- 15:41when he's ready to get that from the from the
- 15:43league And then, yeah, and then the Panthers
- 15:45will absolutely honor him because, I mean, we
- 15:48already know the level of greatness that he brought
- 15:50toward the Panthers. For sure. That's easy to
- 15:52say. Yeah. I'm sorry. What was your question
- 16:03again? Question number two. I'll set this up
- 16:05a little bit. So Victor Mwembenyama, last year's
- 16:09overall number one pick. We know He's super tall,
- 16:13he's super skinny, and he's also very, very great.
- 16:17He's been showing out since the tip off early
- 16:20this year. I'm sorry, early in the season, beginning
- 16:22of the season, and the Spurs have been absolutely
- 16:25balling, dominating teams, even really good teams.
- 16:29So my question is, is the hype around the Spurs
- 16:33and Victor Wimminyama real, or is this just kind
- 16:37of a really hot start to the season? Now I'm
- 16:41going to defer to you because you are indeed
- 16:44a Spurs fan and I'll go ahead and let you have
- 16:48the floor. I think it's a mix. I think we're
- 16:51seeing what Wimby can be. We already know what
- 16:54he is. But I think we talked about this on a
- 16:57previous episode of what's that ceiling and I
- 17:01mean he's going to be amazing. He puts up crazy
- 17:03numbers. He's a freak of an athlete. Nothing
- 17:06like we've ever seen. So I think it's a mix though.
- 17:09that it's a hot start and the hype is real. So
- 17:14again, it's a mix. I believe in the hype, I believe
- 17:16in the spurs, not just because I'm a fan, but
- 17:20I liked all the pieces they have. They just have
- 17:22a good organization and a good system and they
- 17:25just know how to win. It's taking them some time
- 17:27to build back up. You gotta have the players
- 17:29to do it. They've done a really good job of drafting
- 17:32guys and then now making some deals. So. I think
- 17:37with everything, I think it's real. I think,
- 17:39again, we talked about, are they gonna be the
- 17:41top team all year or up there? Probably not.
- 17:44But being a top four team in the West, maybe.
- 17:50And I say hot start only because we see other
- 17:56teams having hot starts and then we see the Bulls.
- 17:59The Bulls are undefeated at the moment at this
- 18:02time of recording. Do we believe in the bulls?
- 18:06I know we're talking about we and be but again,
- 18:08it's so early and you've seen teams Who were
- 18:11without stars? beating teams with stars It's
- 18:16just like we talked about with the NFL that first
- 18:18month I don't know how long it's gonna take an
- 18:20NBA and again each night's different as well.
- 18:24So at the moment I'm just going with the Spurs.
- 18:27We're saying I'm saying it's a mix and the hype
- 18:30is real Okay And to piggyback on that, it is
- 18:36a long season. It's 82 games. Injuries play a
- 18:39huge role in the NBA because one starter being
- 18:42injured could definitely affect your teams and
- 18:45where they sit in the playoffs, especially in
- 18:47the Western Conference. However, one of their
- 18:50better players isn't even playing. Darren Fox
- 18:52isn't even out there yet. And they're still out
- 18:55there dominating. They've got good roster balance.
- 18:59Wimiyama covers a lot of ground on the floor
- 19:01as a player. I do believe that the hype is real
- 19:06and I'm gonna go ahead and shift things. I'm
- 19:11so impressed by how they're winning because they're
- 19:14winning in every way. They're winning with shooting
- 19:17threes. They're winning rebounding. They're winning
- 19:19playing great defense. They're winning, you know,
- 19:22blowing teams out. They're winning, shooting
- 19:24effectively. As a team, not just when Benyama,
- 19:28he's got a really good core of support. And the
- 19:31Spurs, like you said, they're a great organization.
- 19:33They did a really good job putting a really good
- 19:35balanced team around him. I'm going to say that
- 19:39they're absolutely a top five team in the West.
- 19:42And if they don't make. Oh, I mean, a Western
- 19:46Conference finals is really hard for a player
- 19:48that young, but I think he's so dominant and
- 19:52then that team is so good. They're so well coached
- 19:54and that organization is so balanced. I have
- 19:58to say that if they aren't competing. For Western
- 20:01Conference even if it's just a semi where it
- 20:04gets to a game six or a game seven then to me
- 20:07this season would be a massive disappointment
- 20:09because This is an opportunity. We all knew that
- 20:13women Yama was gonna be a really really good
- 20:16player This puts him on a Hall of Fame trajectory
- 20:19if he could get to a championship this early
- 20:23this sets that franchise up for an unbelievable
- 20:28amount of success, even to say that they had
- 20:31David Robinson and Tim Duncan. You know what
- 20:33I mean? This sets it up so early where they could
- 20:36go and have a player like this lead, because
- 20:39when they got Tim Duncan, they still had David
- 20:40Robinson. They still had Greg Popovich. They
- 20:44still had a core, really good championship team,
- 20:47championship level team. But if he shows his
- 20:49ability to be able to lead without tons of veteran
- 20:53plays and without a veteran resume, I think it
- 20:56gives him a chance to leapfrog a lot of the great
- 21:00players in the league that we thought had championship
- 21:03aspirations. He could just wipe that out for
- 21:06the next three or four years easily if they stay
- 21:09healthy. Yeah, the main thing is if he stays
- 21:12healthy. That's the biggest thing, right? Because
- 21:15we've seen him kind of go back and forth with
- 21:18injuries early on. So if he's healthy, yes. And
- 21:20don't forget the spurs. Everything you said.
- 21:24Perfect, right? Fox hasn't even played. We like
- 21:27their lineup. We like their roster. Young, veteran,
- 21:32defense, which is what Spurs basketball is all
- 21:35about. And don't forget, I believe they still
- 21:38have draft picks. But if not, I mean... Draft
- 21:43capital, yeah. Yeah, and I think it's a destination
- 21:45now. They were named in the offseason as a destination
- 21:49when KD was getting shopped and... Other guys,
- 21:53so let's not think that they can't make a move
- 21:56to add one more guy right it during this season
- 22:01and Then they really would be in that conversation
- 22:05of challenging the thunder and whoever else is
- 22:08gonna be at the top so For real. Yeah, I mean
- 22:12like I said, I think the hype is real I also
- 22:14think it's just a hot start in the NBA. So you're
- 22:16filling it out. They've got all the pieces They've
- 22:19got the everything you need to make that jump,
- 22:23especially when you just match them up against
- 22:25everybody else in the West. Outside of the Thunder,
- 22:28that's gonna be, again, they're the ones you're
- 22:29chasing. But yeah, Spurs right now, I think,
- 22:33like we said, top four, top five, and maybe they
- 22:35make a move, you know? Yeah, yeah, and Wimbayama,
- 22:39I mean, his stats are crazy. 30 points a game.
- 22:43you know, um five or averaging almost five blocks
- 22:46a game. Yeah, you know, uh 1314 rebounds a game
- 22:50again. It's early. Those numbers are probably
- 22:52flatten out a little bit but that is incredible
- 22:54along with the support and everything that he's
- 22:57getting and you're talking about draft picks.
- 22:59I think what's probably most valuable for them
- 23:02as opposed to draft picks is the talent that
- 23:04they have on that team and the ability to make
- 23:06trades. So, they've got good good players on
- 23:10that team that they could trade to get better
- 23:13fits you know they've got veterans on that team
- 23:15that they could trade you know lower the salary
- 23:18so that way they're not you know approaching
- 23:20the salary cap and and Wimby still on his rookie
- 23:24deal so you package those picks with some players
- 23:27move some salaries around they could really make
- 23:30a lot of noise but I guess for me the answer
- 23:33to the question is I do think that the hype is
- 23:35real but I think it's only for this year And
- 23:42I think that they'll be able to make some noise.
- 23:45For me, I will be disappointed, man. If they
- 23:47don't make a huge run, I'm gonna be like, damn,
- 23:50man, you guys missed a huge opportunity to come
- 23:52out of nowhere and shock everyone and take the
- 23:56basketball world by storm. Yeah, I agree. Yeah,
- 24:02you old spurs, Homer. A little bit. I have to
- 24:06be honest. I'll be honest. I mean, I'll be honest
- 24:09about him. Like I said, I think they're doing
- 24:11really well. And like I said, there may be one
- 24:13move away from really being a contender. All
- 24:25right, so we'll go right into our third question.
- 24:28So this one was more about just kind of the collaboration
- 24:31of players in different sports. in all the different
- 24:34sports leagues. And, you know, I think the biggest,
- 24:38I have to say the best example was, you know,
- 24:40the LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Miami Heat super
- 24:43team that was actually kind of combined together.
- 24:46We saw what they did, you know, two championships
- 24:48in four years, four finals appearances. But the
- 24:51question is, is why don't super teams win like
- 24:55they used to? It used to be a thing where you
- 24:57get a compilation of talent. It was pretty much
- 25:00a lock. unless something devastating happened
- 25:03with an injury or something to that effect where
- 25:05a super team was expected to perform. So what
- 25:09do you have on that? What kind of stands out
- 25:11to you when I ask you that question? A lot of
- 25:14it is in basketball, it affects the depth of
- 25:18the roster. They change the rules, all these
- 25:22things with the cap and where teams can keep
- 25:25their free agents, this, that, and the other.
- 25:28You see teams like the Suns tried it and it didn't
- 25:33work. You know, not enough depth. And they also,
- 25:37one of their super team members were, you know,
- 25:39an old aging injured guy in Bradley bill. So
- 25:44I think it's that. And I think it's just got,
- 25:46you gotta have the right chemistry and you gotta
- 25:48be selfless. That's the thing you gotta have.
- 25:51Everybody's gotta be selfless credit to the heat.
- 25:54They were very selfless. When it was Bosch Wade
- 25:58and LeBron That's what you got to have to have
- 26:01a super team To work for basketball though. Again,
- 26:06it's I think it has to do with the roster you
- 26:07get three guys on max deals You're picking up
- 26:11just veterans and they got to play well together
- 26:13and it just it kind of faded out And now you're
- 26:16seeing teams that are building through the draft
- 26:19even the Warriors. They built through the draft.
- 26:21They added KD For a few years, but at the end
- 26:25of the day they drafted everybody the Thunder
- 26:28drafted or used Draft capital to make deals,
- 26:34right? Or use a veteran who wanted out to make
- 26:39a deal to get a young guy Barely out, you know
- 26:42barely in the league like a SGA So I think that's
- 26:46the way to build the teams now It's just T you
- 26:49see like the Pacers play as a team and again
- 26:51being the Spurs guy team basketball works, man.
- 26:56Uh but yeah, you have to have that right fit
- 26:58with super teams. I think we're like what now
- 27:01about 10 years past the super teams at least
- 27:05in basketball but the super team I'll give you
- 27:08because it just happened and and it is fresh
- 27:10on my mind is the the Los Angeles Dodgers in
- 27:12baseball are a super team. Correct. And they
- 27:16just won. They are and they just won again back
- 27:19to back. World Series and you look at that lineup
- 27:23and I know I switched sports just there but you
- 27:25look at that lineup because I have to say this
- 27:27What are the team has three MVPs in their top
- 27:31for their batting order? No, no, no No, no, that's
- 27:38a great example and yeah, and that's not even
- 27:41us over No, no, no, no, you're good. I was gonna
- 27:44cross over to uh... to both football and uh...
- 27:48based on that there's like two super teams exist
- 27:49in other sports of the dodgers are good example
- 27:52the i get the only thing about baseball being
- 27:55an outliers the fact that there is no salary
- 27:57cap So as long as you can just continue to pay
- 28:00guys you can acquire whoever you want I mean
- 28:02we've seen we've seen other teams attempt I mean
- 28:05obviously the Yankees are the textbook example
- 28:08of that and then you saw what the Yankees did
- 28:11where John Carlos Stanton, you know playing for
- 28:14the Marlins, you know wins an MVP You know, they
- 28:18bring in new ownership who just happen to have
- 28:20association with the Yankees and the first thing
- 28:22they do is trade him there Yeah, you know, so
- 28:24I mean so these are types of things that have
- 28:25been a you know attempted in baseball before
- 28:28is just a little different because it's long
- 28:30as you've got the big enough checkbook you can
- 28:32pay anybody and but is but but it but it's still
- 28:36and it's still hard to do because in and out
- 28:38of that let you finish with the dodgers but the
- 28:40other thing is just keep in mind okay the dodgers
- 28:43yes very hard to do what they did even with the
- 28:46super team that series went seven games into
- 28:50extra innings so so even with the super team
- 28:53that's what it took for them to overcome it and
- 28:56actually become, you know, back to back World
- 28:58Series champion. So even with that, it's still
- 29:00tough. Even when they had all the talent pitching,
- 29:03hitting, fielding, you know, front office management,
- 29:07branding, you know, L .A., it took all of that
- 29:10and it still took extra innings and everything
- 29:12happening the way that they needed it to to win
- 29:15at the very end in a game seven. Yes, I will
- 29:17say the game, the series, everything. It wasn't.
- 29:22The big names that stepped up except on the pitching
- 29:25side. I mean Otani's Otani He had some big hits.
- 29:28He had some big games Freeman with the walk -off
- 29:31home run in the one game Yamamoto gets MVP. He
- 29:36was the big free agent acquisition in the offseason
- 29:40coming from Japan so But the names that helped
- 29:44that game last night and made plays were not
- 29:46those names, you know, so I give them credit
- 29:50for that. Baseball is weird like that. You'll
- 29:52get a team like Toronto this year that you know
- 29:55Vlad Guerrero Jr. You know Beau Bichette. You
- 29:59know some other names, Max Scherzer. But most
- 30:02of that team is guys you never heard of, right?
- 30:06And they all got together and what we talked
- 30:08about team playing well. But still. Even though
- 30:12it went seven games, ultimately I'm watching
- 30:14it and I'm like, when you have to face that lineup
- 30:17for the Dodgers over and over again, even when
- 30:20they have bad games, it's still tough. Like when
- 30:24you say, okay, the top of the order, Otani, right?
- 30:28Then number three, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts.
- 30:31And the other guys on the team are just as good.
- 30:34They're just not MVPs. But when you have to face
- 30:36a Will Smith, Tiasko Hernandez, Max Muncie. I
- 30:40mean, it just never ends. And like you said,
- 30:43the pitching staff, I mean, they put so much
- 30:44money. And everybody is treating them like the
- 30:47Yankees because the evil empire went out. Like
- 30:50you said, they got Stanton. They went out in
- 30:53the back in the day, got A -Rod. The big contracts,
- 30:56they've got the money. And baseball is just weird
- 30:59that way, right? Where the owners, if they want
- 31:02to spend the money, they'll spend it. So just
- 31:04hope your baseball team has a big owner. It does
- 31:07hurt I mean that's a conversation for another
- 31:09day another episode where you know does baseball
- 31:12need a salary cap because Teams can compete but
- 31:18like this would have been the one of the biggest
- 31:20upsets ever if Toronto would have pulled it off
- 31:22if not the biggest upset When you have the greatest,
- 31:25I don't think The only the only reason I'm gonna
- 31:30disagree with that is because it went seven games
- 31:32because like so if if if it went the other way
- 31:36yeah and the Dodgers ended up losing I wouldn't
- 31:39say it would have been it would have been a huge
- 31:40upset because they were competitive the entire
- 31:42series they won the games when they needed to
- 31:44to get to a game seven and it just didn't work
- 31:46in their favor I mean if they would have got
- 31:48swept sure I'll give you that okay but but I
- 31:50mean but like but they were like they were right
- 31:52there like they had it they would have had an
- 31:54opportunity to win it even if they didn't and
- 31:57it's just so funny when you said that I i don't
- 32:00even know if i've ever told you this like the
- 32:02dodgers i've always considered them yankees west
- 32:05oh yeah they're the west coast yankees like that's
- 32:07what they do they just they're going to throw
- 32:09a lot of money around they got big checkbooks
- 32:11the bank accounts are crazy and they're going
- 32:13to pay money for everything because it's 20 million
- 32:16people in that metropolitan area and they know
- 32:19that they can afford it they're going to sell
- 32:21tickets people are going to watch the games the
- 32:23dodgers are big or a big deal so they've got
- 32:26the money to be able to throw it around yeah
- 32:28and they do it in a way i mean they They defer
- 32:30money on the contracts. So they're smart that
- 32:33way. So I wish, you know, I wish the Atlanta
- 32:35Braves would do the same. And as a Braves fan,
- 32:38again, it sucks to watch Freddie Freeman in a
- 32:41Dodgers uniform win another World Series. What
- 32:44do you have on like, what'd you say, football,
- 32:47super team? Yeah, for football, it's one of those
- 32:50things that's never really worked out. Quarterbacks
- 32:53make so much of the money. And when you think
- 32:56about star players, the risk for injury is so
- 33:00high that even when you have a good top heavy
- 33:04roster with lots of elite talent, it's never
- 33:08really gonna pan out because there's only 16
- 33:11games. A guy gets injured, he could be out for
- 33:14weeks. It's never really gonna happen. I would
- 33:16say the last, what I would classify as the last
- 33:19real super team in the NFL was the Mahomes, Kelsey.
- 33:24you know, uh uh Tyree kill Kansas City Chiefs.
- 33:27Okay. To me, those those are kind of the that's
- 33:32the last like all three of those guys top top
- 33:36top at their position. Okay. And it just happened
- 33:39to work out and on top of that, we're going to
- 33:41give you Hall of Fame coach and Andy Reid. Yeah.
- 33:43So, it's like it had to be a you know, perfect
- 33:46everything. Role players, awesome. Defense, great.
- 33:49Special teams, you know, not the strongest division,
- 33:56you know, they were able to get the one seat
- 33:57host of playoff games, win a Super Bowl. So everything
- 34:00kind of had to work out great for them. And then
- 34:02you see what happens when somebody gets hurt,
- 34:04you know, and things don't go the way that they
- 34:06wanted to. It's hard to have that in the NFL
- 34:08as a whole. So just off the top of my head, that
- 34:10was the first like last Super Team that I can
- 34:12think of. And still everything had to go perfect
- 34:15for them, you know, to be able to win those Super
- 34:17Bowls. Do you put the Eagles in there as a Super
- 34:21Team? because what are the what other team has
- 34:23the quarterback the running back and the wide
- 34:25receivers that the philadelphia eagles have wow
- 34:31so do i classify the eagles as a super team because
- 34:35those are the main positions and i mean okay
- 34:38you know so i uh okay that's a that's a tougher
- 34:47question than i thought it would be i knew it
- 34:49was coming That's a tougher question than I thought
- 34:51it would be, and my answer to that is going to
- 34:53be no. And the best way that I can explain that
- 34:56is to me, a super team has more to do with the
- 35:04talent and their presence. And those players,
- 35:10as great as they are, I don't think they have
- 35:12the presence as other... you know, super teams
- 35:16historically. Think about some of the other teams
- 35:17that we've mentioned. We mentioned, you know,
- 35:20the LeBron James, Chris Bosh, D Wade, Miami Heat,
- 35:23you know, Spolcher as their coach. We mentioned
- 35:25the Kansas City Chiefs, Mahomes, Kelsey Hill,
- 35:28Andy Reid as their coach. You just mentioned,
- 35:30you know, the Dodgers. All of those teams, all
- 35:34the players and the coaches have a presence.
- 35:38that kind of transcends what their level of talent
- 35:40is. I mean, hell, Kelsey, Kelsey was a big name
- 35:43back then. He wasn't even engaged to Taylor Swift.
- 35:46Like, you know what I mean? And, and Hill was,
- 35:48you know, out there racing, you know, Olympic
- 35:51track stars, you know, playing for the Chiefs.
- 35:54Mahomes, you know, face of the league at that
- 35:56point, you know, shattering, you know, passing
- 35:59records, you know, throwing for 50 touchdowns
- 36:01and such. So I think it's more than, than just
- 36:03the level of talent. I think you have to have
- 36:06I'll just I'll use the phrase universal appeal
- 36:08where it has to be bigger than more than just
- 36:12the sport and how good they are. Saquon's awesome,
- 36:14dude. AJ, amazing. Hertz still in my eyes, top
- 36:19five quarterback. Oh, for sure. You want that
- 36:20guy because he's got an ability to go out and
- 36:22win games for you. But outside of football, it's
- 36:25not really much there. Saquon's got a lot of
- 36:28buzz, you know, because he had a really good
- 36:29year last year. But there's a lot of people who
- 36:32don't know what Saquon look like. Well, they
- 36:34should. especially if they watch commercials
- 36:37now because like he's got these little Caesars
- 36:38commercials which are really funny now which
- 36:40are really funny true now he didn't have him
- 36:42last year well no no he was and that's all i'm
- 36:45saying that's all i mean i got it just you had
- 36:48to have you got to have a little you got to have
- 36:49a little more dude i mean come on man we can
- 36:53go the Miami Heat they were they were uh it was
- 36:55a showstop it was box office everything Press
- 36:59conferences to postgame press conferences games,
- 37:02you know, I mean commercials, you know Like they
- 37:05they ran the state of Florida man for the entire
- 37:07four years that they were together So, you know,
- 37:09the Eagles just don't have that and honestly
- 37:11kind of happy that they don't Okay. Well, that's
- 37:14not the type of city they are either but Exactly
- 37:18blue -collar hard -working grab your lunch pail
- 37:21go to work and they take your ass home type of
- 37:23city I've never seen a picture of Jalen Hurts
- 37:26in the club. No Just haven't seen it, you know.
- 37:30There's barely pictures of him smiling. That's
- 37:33true. You know somebody. Ain't no way. And I'm
- 37:37going to have to see if I can clip that. There's
- 37:39not even pictures of him smiling at the wins.
- 37:41He don't even cheer. He don't even celebrate.
- 37:43He don't even cheer. He don't even fist pump.
- 37:45That dude, yeah, he picks up his helmet, walks,
- 37:47goes out, shakes the hands, you know, shakes
- 37:48the hands of the opposition, daps up. Maybe their
- 37:51coach does a, you know, a post -game interview
- 37:53on the field, and it takes his ass in the locker
- 37:55room. I tell you what. So yeah, and that's how
- 37:57I like it. Yeah, I would say that's, you know,
- 37:59I'm glad he's the Eagles quarterback, and definitely
- 38:01that's what you want in your leader. You know,
- 38:04he's all about business, so. I mean, some people
- 38:07like that flash. Some people like all the extra
- 38:11that Cam was doing. Some people like that. Yeah,
- 38:13I mean, I liked it too. But at the end of the
- 38:15day, when you're winning, you do like that side
- 38:19of a quarterback that just says, I'm about business,
- 38:21I'm about winning. I don't care about anything
- 38:23else right now. Let's get to the next one. So
- 38:26Hurts in that sense is definitely great. But
- 38:30just to clean up the... tidy up this super teams.
- 38:34I think basketball, I think super teams is over.
- 38:38And then I just think it is as far as winning,
- 38:41like we're talking about why don't they, you
- 38:43know, win like they used to. I just think it's
- 38:45over. I think again, it may come back, but it's
- 38:49going to take that right combination, that right
- 38:51chemistry and that selfless from these stars
- 38:55if they joined together. And then you just got
- 38:57to find the right role players. It's a it's a
- 39:01it's a it's a it's a it's a recipe that not everybody
- 39:04can can uh cook with is if i guess we say i love
- 39:08this shit no i love this shit because i i like
- 39:10it where it kind of feels like sometimes we rambling
- 39:13and then you drop a gym like that that i didn't
- 39:15see coming because hold on because i'm gonna
- 39:16ask you to elaborate on this i need an explanation
- 39:18for this sir okay so are you saying the you're
- 39:22saying that the collection of players of them
- 39:27Creating combinations of teams by themselves.
- 39:30So you're saying that that players is free agents,
- 39:33you know I don't I don't want to say conspiring
- 39:36because that has a negative connotation But but
- 39:39getting together because like what happened in
- 39:41Phoenix that fizzled out, you know with Booker
- 39:43KD and Beale You know that was more the team
- 39:47making that happen as opposed to You know, LeBron
- 39:51D Wade and Bosch on a plane deciding to do it.
- 39:54So are you saying this from a team perspective
- 39:56or are you saying that it's over from a player
- 39:58perspective and it working in them winning championships?
- 40:01I just think it's over. As far as it it working,
- 40:05I don't care how they do it like Miami when they
- 40:07did it. Within the rules within free agency,
- 40:12but you also it was Miami, so the only you know
- 40:15you gotta be a city, a destination city. to make
- 40:19that happen. Uh you know, Detroit. I got you.
- 40:23I mean, there's teams like Detroit, Brooklyn,
- 40:27name the team that's got cap space every year.
- 40:30These stars ain't ganging up together to go join
- 40:33these teams. Don't go live in Detroit. So, so
- 40:36is it more about so, okay. So, wait, wait, wait.
- 40:38Here's the thing. So, is it, that's no, that's
- 40:40another great question. Is it more about the
- 40:42team or is it more about the city? It's everything.
- 40:45Now, that, that's it. That's if the guys are
- 40:48getting together. So that Miami year was that
- 40:51that just happened. It was a perfect storm where
- 40:54they're all free agents, right? All contracts
- 40:57up at the same time. Miami had the salary cap.
- 41:00Pat Riley was like, we're going to get we're
- 41:02going to get three guys because I think the original
- 41:06plan was what LeBron Wade and Carmelo and Carmelo
- 41:10Anthony. Yes. So and but Carmelo had already
- 41:12signed his deal with New York and extended it.
- 41:14So they had a plan and that's okay. But Only
- 41:17teams like a Miami and New York or LA can really
- 41:20pull that off as far as free agent wise, right?
- 41:24Maybe a Texas team. I got, but I got one more.
- 41:26No, no. Cause it's funny. Cause when you said
- 41:28that there's one more team and I'd love to see
- 41:30it, man. I think it'll just, Oh, I think it'll
- 41:33make me feel good. And I think it would be good
- 41:35for, I think it would be good for sports in general,
- 41:37like forget the NBA and forget, um, like basketball.
- 41:42I would love, I would love to see. Oh man, don't
- 41:48take me out for this. I would love to see a super
- 41:52team in Atlanta. I would love to see a super
- 41:55team for the Atlanta Hawks. I would love to see
- 41:58a player like Anthony Edwards go there and get
- 42:01two ballers to come with him and just shut the
- 42:05league down and just turn the NBA into the 90s
- 42:12Atlanta Hawks slash Freaknik. Right. I mean,
- 42:16yeah. But again, it is love to see it. But again,
- 42:20you talk about they got to be in a place to take
- 42:23less money like they did in Miami. So your superstars
- 42:27have to take take less money, join together.
- 42:30It all has to work. And again, guys like to get
- 42:34their money nowadays. And again, it's set up
- 42:36for, you know, if you're drafted by a team, you
- 42:38get paid more if you stay with that team. So
- 42:42it's just tougher. Now can a team make trades?
- 42:46I mean the Knicks are trying right? They're trying
- 42:49to make a super team I think LA is close, but
- 42:54not quite there, but if Austin Reeves gets playing
- 42:56like he's playing maybe And Luca is playing out
- 43:00of his mind so LeBron comes back who knows I
- 43:04think there's but to see I guess to see Because
- 43:08it's the threes the max right so three guys of
- 43:12superstar status joining, it's just gonna take
- 43:14the perfect storm. But again, teams can make
- 43:18trades, but as far as free agent, I just think
- 43:21the days are over, I just think the way it's
- 43:22set up and the way guys are wired, I don't see
- 43:24it happening. Like you mentioned Phoenix, they
- 43:27tried it, it didn't work, which what was funny
- 43:30was before that, they had went to the NBA finals,
- 43:34right? So they said, we didn't win, so we need
- 43:37this guy, this guy, this guy, this guy, we're
- 43:39gonna fire Monty Williams. and we're now we're
- 43:41going to win and they never even came close.
- 43:44Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. It boy did it flame out
- 43:47and uh but you know, I know Bradley Beal is happy.
- 43:50I guess he got he got out of DC and he got some
- 43:53money. So yeah, you know, good for him. Fun.
- 44:04Now, we're having fun. All right, everybody,
- 44:06you know, we typically like to end our shows
- 44:08with a fun topic, something silly, something
- 44:10kind of off the wall, you know, just something
- 44:12that we can kind of just have some fun with.
- 44:14So the topic for this episode is who is a player
- 44:19that had all the hype coming into their sport
- 44:24and then it never worked out for them. They fizzled
- 44:28out one way or another. There could be, you know,
- 44:31it could be tragedy. It could be, you know, you
- 44:34know, injury. you know playing time just didn't
- 44:37work out for them you know they just weren't
- 44:40that good maybe they were just overhyped but
- 44:43for some reason they came in just didn't work
- 44:46out for him that's the question um kent do you
- 44:49want to lead off or you want me to go i'll lead
- 44:51off i'll be quick guy i'm going basketball and
- 44:55this guy he was on um you know before he got
- 44:57in the league he was he was on magazine covers
- 45:00and they he was the next best guard going to
- 45:05play in the NBA, all the hype in the world. Sebastian
- 45:09Tailfair. It's such a good name, man. He had
- 45:15so much hype, so much hype. And what's funny
- 45:17is, to let everybody know, when we talked about
- 45:20this briefly before the show, we both had that
- 45:25name at the top of our list. both of both of
- 45:28us did and and and I'm and I'm gonna let you
- 45:31go because like I said because there's a couple
- 45:32of things about him I don't know if you forgot
- 45:34but I'm gonna let you go ahead and I probably
- 45:36did and take off I just know again he went he
- 45:39was supposed to be the next best thing and he
- 45:41just got winner I became a journeyman in the
- 45:43league never really gave you anything to say
- 45:47oh that guy's a star he just ended up being you
- 45:50know a regular just a regular guy in the league
- 45:54yeah Yeah, he became a Jag. The main things that
- 46:00I remembered about Sebastian Telfair was that
- 46:03his games were nationally broadcast on television
- 46:07as a high schooler, that he was on all the magazine
- 46:10covers, and the other thing that they made sure
- 46:13to let you know was that he was from New York.
- 46:16He was going to be the next great New York point
- 46:18guard. He was also six feet tall. which is, you
- 46:22know, may have been generous in terms of how
- 46:24tall he actually was. So, you know, maybe he
- 46:27was 5 '11", I don't know. But, you know, he had
- 46:29a lot of hype coming in. You know, he was a,
- 46:32you know, a high draft pick. And that gentleman
- 46:35averaged seven points for his career. It just,
- 46:38yeah, just did not pan out for him. So, you know,
- 46:40that's a damn good pick. Cousin of Stephon Marbury.
- 46:44Stephon Marbury's cousin, which also did help.
- 46:46you know because Marv Starberry you know was
- 46:48kind of a whole thing and but you know but Stefan
- 46:50Marbury was a Hooper too so yeah that connection
- 46:53absolutely made sense. Yeah I think uh I think
- 46:55LeBron started that and then you know the hype
- 47:00trained for high schoolers and then tailfare
- 47:02was supposed to be that next one and and like
- 47:04we said he just never panned out. Yeah, it just
- 47:08didn't take off for him and you know, and that's
- 47:10not a knock on him You know, maybe it wasn't
- 47:12his fault, you know, it's just some sometimes
- 47:15you fit sometimes is where you go You know, I
- 47:17mean he was he became a journeyman. Yeah, or
- 47:19in Boston Minnesota to Clippers Cleveland T Wolves
- 47:23Phoenix like he bounced around the league a lot
- 47:26and he had a very short career his career lasted
- 47:29less than a decade Yeah, I mean you in the NBA.
- 47:32Yeah, you can't you know the players that's the
- 47:35one thing we talk about now like archmanning
- 47:37they the players don't make the hype the media
- 47:40and everybody makes the hype and uh correct you
- 47:42know it is what it is but hey he plays and sometimes
- 47:45it's to their detriment yeah i'm with you yeah
- 47:47and uh so so who do you have all right so uh
- 47:50mine um same thing his this player's success
- 47:53wasn't necessarily in high school it was more
- 47:55in college uh razzle dazzle just you know showstopper
- 48:00elite athlete um had had the name had the look
- 48:04had the um the speech had the personality he
- 48:09was highly touted he got a lot of uh a lot of
- 48:13facetime which is rare especially when you're
- 48:15talking about college football because usually
- 48:17you don't really associate a face with a name
- 48:20unless it's you know a star quarterback uh but
- 48:23this was a running back and i'm gonna go with
- 48:25one mr reggie bush yeah And Reggie Bush, one
- 48:29of those players where he was a kind of a do
- 48:31-it -all type of athlete at USC. And he was doing
- 48:35it all, running back, catching passes out of
- 48:37the backfield, returning kicks, just supreme
- 48:40athlete, started dating Kim Kardashian. It was
- 48:45just this whole thing. Who hasn't? got got drafted
- 48:51by the saints and it just never took off you
- 48:55know he played you know ten years had two thousand
- 48:59yard seasons you know uh... is is jars per carrier
- 49:02whenever really great it it just never really
- 49:06worked for him as as hyped as we thought he would
- 49:08be we thought that he would have you know here's
- 49:12that like say kwan has had working with every
- 49:14last night or mcafee you know where where it's
- 49:17like where they come in and it's like you make
- 49:21an immediate impact on that team and everybody
- 49:23knows that you're the guy. And you've got all
- 49:27this extra charisma on the side of your athletic
- 49:31ability. And he still had that, but it just never
- 49:34really worked out for him as a player. And obviously
- 49:37playing at USC, those games were huge. Big college
- 49:41program at the time. I think everybody was expecting
- 49:44a lot more from him. And I think it's fair to
- 49:45say that he was expecting a lot more Heisman
- 49:47Trophy winner. And it just never happened for
- 49:50him. So yeah, I was going to take Reggie Bush
- 49:51as my pick. Yeah, not in the league, right? NFL,
- 49:54like you said, Reggie Bush never became what
- 49:57we thought or what everyone thought he would
- 49:59be. And I think Saquon McCaffrey is a good comparison
- 50:03to say that's what we thought he'd be. He just
- 50:06never ended up being that. You know, won a Super
- 50:10Bowl, but he was just, again, he was a part of
- 50:12that team. He was a key piece, but again, not
- 50:15the superstar level for the hype that he got.
- 50:19And I told you this, and I think we disagreed
- 50:21on this. It's so early, but I don't want Travis
- 50:26Hunter to end up like Reggie Bush. I agree with
- 50:29you. And I will say Travis Hunter's hype is nowhere
- 50:33near as big as Reggie Bush's. And I think a lot
- 50:36of that just has to do with, like, the media
- 50:37coverage. Like, Reggie Bush was, I don't want
- 50:41to say he was more marketable. I mean, Travis
- 50:43Hunter's a big name, but, like, the Reggie Bush
- 50:46push was massive. It was. I mean, he might, yeah.
- 50:50I'm sorry, go ahead. Go ahead. No, no, go ahead.
- 50:53No, I was just saying, I think, well, both of
- 50:54them were, at some point... mentioned as the
- 50:57top pick of the draft. True. And then the Jags
- 51:00made a huge trade to get Travis Hunter. So I'm
- 51:04just expecting. He's on their roster. Yeah. I'm
- 51:07just expecting more from him. And I just said,
- 51:09I hope he doesn't end up a Reggie Bush. I agree
- 51:13with that. You know, the Jaguars have never been
- 51:17a fantastic organization. But so they were hoping
- 51:19that bringing him in as a player would help them.
- 51:23But they're going to have to give that young
- 51:25man some help. You know, they'll have to help
- 51:27out Travis Hunter. And I did have, I had another
- 51:31point. Oh, very interesting thing you said about
- 51:34Reggie Bush. You mentioned Reggie Bush and you
- 51:37mentioned the fact that, you know, he won a Superbowl
- 51:40with the Saints. Yes. I guarantee you that if
- 51:42you were to go to on the street, any bar, any
- 51:45football game, and you ask anyone if Reggie Bush
- 51:48won a Superbowl ring, I think you'd be surprised
- 51:52at how many people say no. They wouldn't remember.
- 51:54He was that much of a non -factor. I mean, he
- 51:57was on the team and he played, but you don't
- 52:00think of him as Super Bowl champion Reggie Bush,
- 52:02even though he is one. And I think that kind
- 52:04of helps accentuate my point. I got you. That
- 52:07makes sense. Hey, like I said, he never lived
- 52:09up all the way to the hype. Yeah, never panned
- 52:11out, man. OK, everybody, that's another episode
