- 0:11I was born to kill it.
- 0:15I was meant to win.
- 0:16I am down and willing,
- 0:17so I will find a way.
- 0:19It took a minute,
- 0:20now it didn't happen right away.
- 0:21When it get hot in the kitchen,
- 0:23you decide to stay.
- 0:24That's how a winner's made.
- 0:25Stick a fork
- 0:35What is going on, everybody?
- 0:36Welcome to the Clydesdale
- 0:38Media Semi-Finalist Series.
- 0:40Our first one of the year.
- 0:42We're kicking it off with
- 0:44one of the most popular guys in the sport,
- 0:46Scott Tetlow.
- 0:47Scott, what's going on, man?
- 0:48Not a whole lot.
- 0:49How you doing?
- 0:50I'm good.
- 0:51We didn't even coordinate this,
- 0:53but we both came in with
- 0:54the Uplift shirts.
- 0:56Right.
- 0:57Sporting man, Mark Moss and his, uh,
- 1:00his organization, uh,
- 1:02to prevent suicide and to
- 1:03create suicide awareness.
- 1:05Yeah.
- 1:06And so I wanted to go right off the top.
- 1:10Mark has started this organization.
- 1:12You, this, I'm going to share my screen.
- 1:15You this month in their challenge, uh,
- 1:18did the workout.
- 1:20So I'm going to pull that up.
- 1:21Yeah.
- 1:25There we go.
- 1:25Yeah, he just posted it today.
- 1:29So this is the Mays Uplift Challenge.
- 1:32So I'm going to blow up the workout.
- 1:34You want to explain it to people?
- 1:38Yeah, it's a 10-minute AMRAP.
- 1:40The movement's pretty simple.
- 1:43Triplet, 12 alternating snatches,
- 1:4550 for the men, 35 for the female,
- 1:47eight lateral burpees over the dumbbell,
- 1:49and then four handstand push-ups.
- 1:51Handstand push-ups are strict, kipping,
- 1:54whatever way you got to do
- 1:55to keep moving throughout it.
- 1:57It's a good one.
- 1:59It's a lot more – I breathe a lot heavier.
- 2:03It was a lot heavier
- 2:04breathing than I thought it would be,
- 2:05but I got, just so you know the score,
- 2:07I got 10 plus one rep,
- 2:08so I was able to keep one minute around.
- 2:11Wow.
- 2:13So a top male and female
- 2:14will receive a $100 gift
- 2:15card from Vindicate and one
- 2:18month of next level programming.
- 2:20Yep.
- 2:21Pretty awesome.
- 2:22So one minute around.
- 2:25Did you go into it with that
- 2:28thought process and treat
- 2:29it like an AMRAP?
- 2:31Yeah, I did.
- 2:32I was like, I'm looking at him like, OK,
- 2:34well, I should.
- 2:35The goal is to be able to
- 2:36hold for me and everything.
- 2:38I was like,
- 2:38I think I can hold one minute around.
- 2:39So I tried it and then I I
- 2:41did it with one of my my
- 2:43buddies that I trained with
- 2:44and he got just under 10 rounds.
- 2:47So, you know,
- 2:48that was that was the intent
- 2:49whenever I broke like 10
- 2:51minutes or whatever for me.
- 2:54So so you could hold one minute around.
- 2:57So the other thing that
- 2:58uplift is doing for you is
- 3:01they're hyping you up, man.
- 3:04And it is right.
- 3:05Yeah.
- 3:06I'm grateful for it.
- 3:09They're hyping you up and
- 3:09they're supporting you.
- 3:10Yeah.
- 3:12Put this out.
- 3:13They're selling shirts to help you out,
- 3:15to get you a trip to, to Carson.
- 3:20Yes.
- 3:21And majority of that's going
- 3:23to be going to like, I'm,
- 3:26trying to raise enough money
- 3:27for not just myself but for
- 3:30my entire team to uh to go
- 3:32up there because you know
- 3:33my team doesn't have to go
- 3:35up with me they I've asked
- 3:36them to go up there and
- 3:37they said yes they will so
- 3:39I'm trying to raise enough
- 3:40money to also they've
- 3:41supported me throughout the
- 3:42year so I'm trying to
- 3:43support them and so they
- 3:44don't have to come out of
- 3:45pocket to help me so
- 3:47everything is going to be
- 3:48split between all of us and uh
- 3:50Yeah, it's, you know,
- 3:51Mark does an incredible job
- 3:52with it and the whole
- 3:54uplift suicide awareness, I think,
- 3:56needs to be brought to
- 3:58light a lot more often
- 3:59because every single day
- 4:01something you never know.
- 4:03What somebody is going
- 4:04through because people hide
- 4:07emotions so well and so you
- 4:09never know what people are
- 4:11going through and it
- 4:11doesn't hurt to just ask me
- 4:13being active duty in the
- 4:14military and stuff.
- 4:15I personally have seen it
- 4:17and it hits home so I
- 4:19definitely want to help out
- 4:21with whatever I can to
- 4:22support the the like the
- 4:25uplift community.
- 4:26Yeah, we've had Mark on the show before.
- 4:28He shared a story.
- 4:30It's so impactful.
- 4:32My family was impacted by this.
- 4:34It's becoming more and more
- 4:35prevalent and people need
- 4:36to be more aware of it.
- 4:38My daughter had a friend,
- 4:41probably two friends, I think now,
- 4:43who committed suicide while
- 4:44she was in school.
- 4:46And it devastated her.
- 4:48And it took us a long time
- 4:50to get her over that.
- 4:53And so, you know,
- 4:54I'm a huge supporter of Uplift.
- 4:56I believe in their cause and
- 4:58we'll do anything we can to
- 5:00help them out.
- 5:01Yeah, I'm the same way.
- 5:05You know, especially, you know,
- 5:07Mark is just an awesome dude.
- 5:10He definitely cares.
- 5:12He does.
- 5:12He's a great dude, too.
- 5:14He's always checking in on me, too,
- 5:15which is awesome.
- 5:19So let's talk about the season so far.
- 5:24So you get through the Open.
- 5:25It becomes quarterfinal time.
- 5:29And you do your quarterfinal workouts,
- 5:32and then all hell breaks loose.
- 5:34So you as an athlete,
- 5:36after you submit your stuff,
- 5:38what's going through your
- 5:38head at that moment?
- 5:41Are you talking about like
- 5:42the penalties or are you
- 5:43talking about like, okay.
- 5:46So, you know, to me,
- 5:49like it is what it is.
- 5:50I was like, well, I think I met the, like,
- 5:53so I got a phone call from
- 5:55a good buddy of mine who
- 5:56got hit with a severe penalty.
- 5:58And he was like, hey, or no, I'm sorry.
- 6:00He knew somebody that got
- 6:02hit with a severe penalty.
- 6:03He called me.
- 6:03He goes, have you seen what's going on?
- 6:05And as I was on the phone with him,
- 6:09he got he received his email
- 6:12from crossfit saying a
- 6:14major penalty and so then
- 6:15at that point I was like
- 6:17holy smokes like this is
- 6:18two people that I know move
- 6:21very well and like they're
- 6:24amazing athletes got hit
- 6:26with this and I'm like
- 6:27sitting there reviewing my
- 6:28video and like I sent it to
- 6:29my coach I'm like hey do
- 6:30you think that do you see
- 6:31anything wrong with this and
- 6:33It was a little stressful at that point,
- 6:36and then I kept checking my email,
- 6:38and then once I – that was
- 6:39the only workout that I was
- 6:41worried about.
- 6:41I already had two validated
- 6:43before I had one validated,
- 6:45so that was kind of like a stressful day,
- 6:51and then I received at like noon the –
- 6:54the next day I like uh I
- 6:55think I've received it on
- 6:57uh I don't know I can't
- 6:58remember but I checked in I
- 7:00had a six rep penalty so
- 7:01that was like I was like
- 7:01all right I'll take that
- 7:03because from what people
- 7:04are getting docked on I was
- 7:05like I couldn't believe it
- 7:08so as someone who moves
- 7:11well isn't this what we
- 7:14wanted to make sure that
- 7:15everybody had a level
- 7:16playing field going into semifinals
- 7:21Yes.
- 7:22Yeah.
- 7:23I mean, the standard is there.
- 7:27But, yeah.
- 7:29You're free to—I mean,
- 7:30do you think it was too harsh?
- 7:34No, I just—I don't—it is what it is.
- 7:36That's what I say.
- 7:36It is what it is.
- 7:37I think that there's better
- 7:39ways to go on about as far as, like, hey,
- 7:43forward thinking.
- 7:44What could happen on this movement?
- 7:46What do we see major issues being?
- 7:50Um, and I think that, and you know,
- 7:52whatever CrossFit holds it
- 7:54against me and stuff at
- 7:55semifinals or speak in my mind,
- 7:57then it is whatever.
- 7:58But I think that they need
- 8:00to plan ahead and be like, okay,
- 8:03Think of it not just from a
- 8:05judging aspect or not just like, hey,
- 8:09I'm going to program.
- 8:10What's the best sport, like,
- 8:12test of fitness?
- 8:13Yes, there's ways to test the fitness,
- 8:15but from an athlete's perspective,
- 8:18all right,
- 8:18what is the athlete going to be doing?
- 8:20Like, in the judge's course,
- 8:21it states the athletes and
- 8:22the judge are responsible for, you know,
- 8:24the movement,
- 8:25reading the instructions and
- 8:27the movement standard.
- 8:29But, like, I just –
- 8:32think that there's a better
- 8:33way to program.
- 8:35Okay.
- 8:35How is there,
- 8:36can you test fitness without
- 8:37maybe doing box step ups?
- 8:39Can you do box step overs in that way?
- 8:41You know,
- 8:41now you're not leaving it up to video, uh,
- 8:45video review really, because it's like,
- 8:47Hey, two feet over,
- 8:48make it as simple as you
- 8:49can during the video process.
- 8:51Because like you pay for a judge, you pay,
- 8:55you pay $10 to take the judging course,
- 8:57but then does that judge really even
- 9:00mean anything if they're
- 9:01just going to sit there and
- 9:02review the process.
- 9:04Like,
- 9:04you have the AFC or whatever that
- 9:06judging course is, that judging community,
- 9:10go to all these well-known, like,
- 9:14mayhem and training think tank and stuff.
- 9:17And it's like,
- 9:18but those are the judges out
- 9:18there on the field.
- 9:19I know that in a competition,
- 9:22live competition at semifinals,
- 9:23if you get a no rep or if
- 9:25you get a no rep, then –
- 9:27It is what it is.
- 9:28They're going to take the judge's word.
- 9:29They're not going to go back
- 9:30and review it.
- 9:32So it's like,
- 9:33why are you not taking the
- 9:34judge's course?
- 9:35Why are you not taking the
- 9:36judge's word for it that
- 9:37that was a good rep?
- 9:39But you take the judge's
- 9:40word for it on the competition floor.
- 9:42That's just my whole thing about it.
- 9:47To me, it's like,
- 9:48what's the point of having
- 9:50a judge there during an
- 9:51online competition?
- 9:53if they're just going to video review it,
- 9:54are they,
- 9:55are they snap screening it to like slow,
- 9:57slow it down to see like,
- 9:59cause if you're doing that,
- 10:00then the judge in person can't really,
- 10:03the athletes are moving so
- 10:04fast that it's like, Hey,
- 10:07it's hard to see every single rep,
- 10:10especially, you know,
- 10:11for like people getting docked,
- 10:12like 40 something reps for us.
- 10:14It's like, okay.
- 10:15Judge very well could have
- 10:16missed like 20 of those
- 10:18reps because of how fast
- 10:19the athlete was moving.
- 10:21So I don't know.
- 10:22That's just my that's just
- 10:23my opinion on it.
- 10:24So what zombie digging the mustache?
- 10:28Thank you.
- 10:28It's new.
- 10:29It's new.
- 10:30I had to shave to go back to
- 10:32work and I always leave the
- 10:34mustache for the last to
- 10:35see what I look like with it.
- 10:37And the wife actually approved of it.
- 10:39So I'm letting it go for a little bit.
- 10:42Maybe it's the intimidation
- 10:43factor I needed for it.
- 10:44Yeah.
- 10:45There you go.
- 10:46It's like a playoff mustache, right?
- 10:50Like in hockey,
- 10:51they grow out the beards for playoffs.
- 10:53Yeah.
- 10:55So let's get past all the
- 11:00noise that happened around quarterfinals.
- 11:02You are going into
- 11:06semifinals this year in 13th position,
- 11:11essentially going in.
- 11:14Mm-hmm.
- 11:15Last year,
- 11:16you were right outside that
- 11:18qualifying spot,
- 11:19and you were inside the
- 11:20qualifying spot during the competition.
- 11:22Yes.
- 11:24What have you done this year
- 11:25to get over that hump?
- 11:30Honestly,
- 11:31I haven't really been training as much.
- 11:34To be honest, I'm hoping, like,
- 11:35I tell everyone, like,
- 11:36because I've decreased the
- 11:37amount of my training volume,
- 11:41and I actually feel better body-wise.
- 11:44Like, I don't have as many injuries.
- 11:45I think this is the first
- 11:46time that knock on wood or something,
- 11:49I think, as long as nothing happens,
- 11:51that this is the first time
- 11:52going to semis that I don't really have,
- 11:53like, an ache or a pain going on.
- 11:56So, yeah.
- 11:58Hopefully,
- 11:59and then I've just become – I've
- 12:00been talking to a mental coach.
- 12:04I've been kind of like
- 12:05pushing that off for a little bit,
- 12:06so I've kind of reached out,
- 12:07talked to a sports psychologist,
- 12:10and she's been helping me, Katie Bosco.
- 12:13She's been helping me out
- 12:14with kind of like keeping focused.
- 12:18So I've done some of the –
- 12:20not necessarily like the training pieces,
- 12:22but I've done more of like
- 12:23the mental side and like how to –
- 12:26and allow my body and kind of like,
- 12:28it's just how, if you feel good,
- 12:29then you perform good.
- 12:31So like having the body ready and then,
- 12:34and then also like the mind
- 12:36side of the focus,
- 12:37then I'm hoping that I'll
- 12:40be able to put it together this year.
- 12:43So you mentioned going this year to semis,
- 12:47you want to take a team.
- 12:49I've been at semis and talked to you,
- 12:51and you were there woofing it sometimes.
- 12:54That's the way I roll, yeah.
- 12:56So why the change?
- 12:58Well, it's not really like a change.
- 12:59I got my buddy, my buddy slash coach, John,
- 13:02who knows me,
- 13:03who brings me down to
- 13:04reality and what I'm capable of.
- 13:06And then I have another girl,
- 13:08Annalise Moore,
- 13:09that I work – that goes to
- 13:11the same gym as me,
- 13:13and she qualified for semis this year.
- 13:15So she's going to be going.
- 13:18And, you know, I'm a good friend.
- 13:20You know, we pretty much work out.
- 13:22We don't do the same
- 13:23training program that often.
- 13:25Sometimes I'll jump into a
- 13:26workout with her,
- 13:26but we are typically there
- 13:28at the gym at the same time,
- 13:29which definitely helps.
- 13:32And then we have another girl who's also –
- 13:36So good good friends with us
- 13:38in the and so she's going
- 13:40to be going up there.
- 13:41I think I got my wife's
- 13:43going to be coming up there
- 13:44with me and then so and
- 13:46then I got another guy who
- 13:47might come up so.
- 13:49I don't know.
- 13:51It's always good to hear
- 13:52your name being screamed at in the crowd,
- 13:54even if it's right there.
- 13:56It's not as big as some people's,
- 13:57but it's nice.
- 13:59So I know you had
- 14:01grandparents watching the
- 14:02kids at some of the events.
- 14:07Who's got the kids this year?
- 14:11Well, my oldest, who's eight,
- 14:13about to be nine,
- 14:13is going to be going over
- 14:14to a friend's house,
- 14:15and I'm still currently
- 14:16working the one-year-old
- 14:17who's going to watch him.
- 14:18But that's TBD.
- 14:21There you go.
- 14:23The other thing that's
- 14:24different this year is when
- 14:26I talked to you last year,
- 14:27you had just acquired a
- 14:28building to open a tattoo
- 14:31shop with your wife.
- 14:32Yes.
- 14:33That seems to be going much
- 14:37further into that this year.
- 14:39How has that changed your schedules?
- 14:43It doesn't really change anything.
- 14:44Well, for my wife's schedule, well,
- 14:46she went from being a police officer
- 14:48To work in 12 hour shifts.
- 14:50And when she was working nighttime,
- 14:52she was sleeping during the day.
- 14:53So even when she was home,
- 14:54she wasn't really home.
- 14:55And so it actually like
- 14:56opened up our schedule a little bit more.
- 15:02Just making that switch and
- 15:04the tattoo shops going awesome.
- 15:05Like I said,
- 15:06we're the first tattoo shop
- 15:07inside city limits in the
- 15:08city that I'm at, which is Slidell,
- 15:10Louisiana.
- 15:11And we officially opened in October.
- 15:15Once we opened,
- 15:16like I was in there working
- 15:18my butt off trying to cut expenses.
- 15:21And because we did a whole
- 15:22renovation thing.
- 15:23So I was in there doing what I could do.
- 15:26And I was working,
- 15:28putting a lot of work there.
- 15:29But once we opened in October,
- 15:31like my wife has just been
- 15:32crushing it and running it throughout.
- 15:34So I just run the finances.
- 15:36So it's pretty easy to do that.
- 15:39So for her to take off a
- 15:40weekend to go to Carson,
- 15:44because she owns a business now,
- 15:45it's a lot easier?
- 15:51I'm sorry, say that again.
- 15:52You kind of went off.
- 15:53So now that she owns her own business,
- 15:55if she needs a weekend to go to Carson,
- 15:58is that a lot easier for you guys now?
- 16:00Or is it harder because she
- 16:02owns a business?
- 16:05It's actually easier because
- 16:06since she owns it,
- 16:07she can pretty much make
- 16:08her own work schedule.
- 16:10So, you know, we got,
- 16:12we got employees or we got
- 16:14contractors that work with us that are,
- 16:16you know, understanding and it's all,
- 16:18we're like, we're the,
- 16:19it's a private tattoo studio.
- 16:21So it's not like it's by appointment only.
- 16:23So as long as she didn't
- 16:24have any appointments, then it's not,
- 16:27then it's fine.
- 16:27But so she took off for that
- 16:29whole week and then we have
- 16:30the employees that just run the shop.
- 16:32So, so it's easy here.
- 16:36So Mark says,
- 16:36don't you have a fundraiser through who,
- 16:38through her shop too?
- 16:43Yes.
- 16:43Thank you, Mark, for reminding me.
- 16:44Yeah.
- 16:45So my wife's giving away a
- 16:46$500 value tattoo, um, doing a raffle.
- 16:50So I posted on my Instagram,
- 16:51I'm going to keep posting it that, uh,
- 16:53you know, $10 entry is, uh,
- 16:55every $10 is one entry into
- 16:57a free $500 value tattoo that my wife,
- 17:02so fine line work.
- 17:05And, uh, she's what's that?
- 17:09What,
- 17:09what is that for uplift or another
- 17:11organization?
- 17:13So it's just another
- 17:14fundraiser thing that we're doing,
- 17:17trying to raise money to
- 17:18get the team there.
- 17:19So it's separate from Uplift,
- 17:20but the goal is still the same,
- 17:22just to help raise money
- 17:24for us to go to semis.
- 17:25Gotcha, gotcha.
- 17:27So you've never been to the
- 17:29games when it was in person.
- 17:33The year you went to the games was online.
- 17:36You're getting to go to
- 17:37Carson to this historic tennis stadium.
- 17:41Any feels about that,
- 17:43that you get to go to this iconic arena?
- 17:47I think it's cool.
- 17:50I don't really focus on
- 17:51where it's at or anything.
- 17:52I mean, it's going to be outside,
- 17:55so I have to take
- 17:56environmental into consideration,
- 17:57like how am I going to be
- 17:58performing outside?
- 17:59So there's stuff to consider
- 18:00whenever you're training
- 18:02for that kind of event
- 18:02because I believe it's at
- 18:03the tennis stadium.
- 18:05And so we're going to be
- 18:06outside sun beating on us.
- 18:08The difference between where
- 18:10I'm at now is humidity.
- 18:11So I work out outside.
- 18:13I'm like sweating,
- 18:14even just warming up and or
- 18:16I'm drenching sweat, just warming up.
- 18:18And then that temperature up
- 18:20there is like dry heat.
- 18:21But yeah,
- 18:22so like I'm more considering like, hey,
- 18:25the the environmental
- 18:26factors of what it's like
- 18:27going to be competing there.
- 18:30Gotcha.
- 18:31It seems like the crowd's
- 18:32going to be really close
- 18:33compared to like Knoxville
- 18:35or Pasadena even.
- 18:38Are you excited to have the
- 18:40crowd that close?
- 18:41Yeah, it's going to be different.
- 18:43I think it's definitely
- 18:46going to I think it's going
- 18:47to be being at Carson.
- 18:49I'm expecting a lot more spectators there.
- 18:51Because it's like, oh, cool.
- 18:53Like the first event since
- 18:54the CrossFit game,
- 18:55people are going to want to
- 18:56go to that to go see that
- 18:58semifinal just because it's
- 18:59where kind of like the
- 19:01games originated in a way.
- 19:03So I think there's going to
- 19:04be a lot more spectators there.
- 19:05And I've never I don't I've
- 19:06never been there before.
- 19:07So I don't know how how like
- 19:08how big it is or how close
- 19:10those fans are.
- 19:11But it's definitely a tennis court,
- 19:13I'm assuming,
- 19:13is is a lot smaller than an arena.
- 19:16So it's going to make it
- 19:17feel like it's a lot more
- 19:18crowded with all those people.
- 19:21So last year at Pasadena,
- 19:23you were flying the Mayhem flag.
- 19:26You talked about your coach, John.
- 19:28Are you now with a private coach?
- 19:30No.
- 19:31I've been doing my own
- 19:32programming for about nine months.
- 19:35I got my schedule.
- 19:38I get 90 minutes to two
- 19:39hours a day to work out,
- 19:40two hours if I'm lucky.
- 19:42So I got tired of seeing.
- 19:45You followed the Mayhem track.
- 19:46Nothing to say against Mayhem.
- 19:48It's a great program, great people there.
- 19:50Um, but I got tired of seeing like, Hey,
- 19:53if you want to compete,
- 19:54this is all you have to do.
- 19:55So I was stressing,
- 19:56like I would only get one
- 19:57session in a day.
- 19:58So I was stressing about not
- 20:01getting in that second piece.
- 20:02And that was like,
- 20:03that was all that was on my mind is like,
- 20:05am I going to get it in?
- 20:06Am I going to get it in?
- 20:07So I kind of took that.
- 20:10I wanted to take that away this year.
- 20:12And so I've just been
- 20:13writing my own programming,
- 20:14knowing what I have time
- 20:15for and opportunity and time opens up.
- 20:19and I have a 30-minute window,
- 20:21then I'll just go and
- 20:22program something myself
- 20:23and go in there and hit it.
- 20:26That way the thought's not there.
- 20:27It's like, oh,
- 20:28people are getting better than me.
- 20:29And I stopped looking.
- 20:32Some people do this, but, like,
- 20:34look at the leaderboard,
- 20:34see how you stack up.
- 20:36I did that every now and then.
- 20:37It was just like, oh, well, you know,
- 20:39he got me on this.
- 20:40And I've just been doing my own thing,
- 20:42and it's just creating a
- 20:43lot less stress on me.
- 20:45You did that before Mayhem too, right?
- 20:48You programmed for yourself.
- 20:49I did that leading up to
- 20:50Rogue and then my buddy, John.
- 20:55So my coach, John,
- 20:56is just a really good friend of mine.
- 20:58He knows me as an athlete and knows me.
- 21:03who I'm capable of,
- 21:04and he's a great support
- 21:06whenever for an in-person competition.
- 21:10We always joke around that
- 21:12his first event was the Rogue event.
- 21:13I said, hey,
- 21:14this is your tryout to see how
- 21:15good you do and everything.
- 21:16And he was the man.
- 21:18He was over there talking to Shane Orr.
- 21:20He was one of the coaches and everything.
- 21:23He was awesome, did everything.
- 21:25And I said, all right, you're hired, bro,
- 21:27because he was just –
- 21:30he was good to, to be around.
- 21:31And plus he,
- 21:32he knew me as an athlete and
- 21:34definitely brought me down.
- 21:35Like, no,
- 21:36you're not going to go out there
- 21:37and go unbroken on that.
- 21:38I don't care what you think you are.
- 21:40So I was like, okay.
- 21:41And yeah,
- 21:43He's the one last year at Semis to do.
- 21:45I think I was one of the
- 21:46only ones to do the single
- 21:48pirouettes or whatever you
- 21:49call those 360 handstand walks,
- 21:51and every single one of
- 21:52them I did as a single.
- 21:54It was his call to do that
- 21:55because he was like, hey,
- 21:58you're not going to lose
- 21:59that much time if you just
- 22:00do singles and you'll make
- 22:01every one versus if you try to go for it,
- 22:04then you could fail,
- 22:05and then you're going to be
- 22:05resting for 30 seconds,
- 22:0745 seconds trying to do,
- 22:08so just do singles.
- 22:09And I did it and it paid off.
- 22:11So he's definitely,
- 22:13he's somebody that I trust
- 22:14in my corner that I listen
- 22:16to and try to take his advice.
- 22:19So I talked to Ariel Lowen
- 22:22quite a bit and she
- 22:23programs for herself as well.
- 22:25And one question I always ask her is like,
- 22:29Are you good enough at
- 22:30self-evaluation to know
- 22:32what you need to work on?
- 22:33Or do you have somebody help you say,
- 22:35come on, Scott, you need to work on X, Y,
- 22:39and Z?
- 22:40Um, so I program,
- 22:42I do the outline essentially for myself,
- 22:44like, Hey,
- 22:45here's what I'm thinking for me.
- 22:46And then I send it to him, John, and he,
- 22:51he adds something or I asked him, I asked,
- 22:54I asked him actually last week, Hey,
- 22:57give me a list of movements
- 22:58that you think I need to
- 22:59work on the most.
- 23:00And he sent me like seven or
- 23:01eight movements.
- 23:02And I prioritize those
- 23:04movements throughout.
- 23:05I sent him the outline and
- 23:06And then I said, hey,
- 23:08here's what I got going.
- 23:09And he was like,
- 23:10I think you should do this versus this.
- 23:12That's kind of how that
- 23:14coach-athlete relationship works.
- 23:16So he really is like in your
- 23:18corner analyzing you and
- 23:21helping you kind of fine-tune everything.
- 23:24Yes.
- 23:24Like he's in the gym.
- 23:25He's not really –
- 23:27He's working out, but in between his sets,
- 23:31like I was doing bike
- 23:32intervals the other day
- 23:34because that's one of the
- 23:34things I need to work on.
- 23:35He was literally coming up
- 23:37behind me over my shoulder
- 23:39and was just like, you need to hold it,
- 23:41hold it, hold it, hold it,
- 23:42all the way through that minute,
- 23:44minute and a half I was
- 23:44doing the intervals for.
- 23:46So he's in my corner there
- 23:49watching me do everything
- 23:50instead of just like programming for me.
- 23:54And you've never really had
- 23:55that in the gym before, right?
- 23:57Because the mayhem stuff is just online.
- 24:00Nobody's actually in the gym
- 24:01with you physically.
- 24:02So this is actually more than a coach,
- 24:06but support as well.
- 24:07Yes, 100%.
- 24:10Does he look at your movement and say, hey,
- 24:13you need to get your knees
- 24:14a little wider or anything like that?
- 24:17Or is that still up to you?
- 24:20No, he doesn't do that.
- 24:21He'll critique me on my lifts.
- 24:23Like he'll say, hey, like, you know,
- 24:25you need to be over the bar
- 24:28a little bit more because
- 24:30that was like you're kind
- 24:32of catching it forward.
- 24:32So whatever, he'll give me cues like that,
- 24:34and I'll be like, okay.
- 24:36And then as far as like movement,
- 24:38he'll tell me like, hey, you know,
- 24:39that's really close.
- 24:41Like your hip line versus your knee,
- 24:42that's really close.
- 24:43You need to be practicing
- 24:45getting down farther.
- 24:45So therefore, like that full,
- 24:48leave no question behind.
- 24:50So he'll like point stuff
- 24:51out like that to me.
- 24:54Okay, so now you have him,
- 24:57and you've been with this
- 24:58Southland group now for a couple years,
- 25:00kind of this Louisiana camp
- 25:03that's been growing and
- 25:04growing and growing.
- 25:06Either that,
- 25:07or I'm just getting to know
- 25:08more and more of the people that go there,
- 25:10because it seems like I run
- 25:11into somebody all the time.
- 25:13Yeah, the Southland group is a...
- 25:18is incredible.
- 25:19You would be surprised how
- 25:21many fit individuals we
- 25:22have within a 50 mile radius of me.
- 25:26It is incredible.
- 25:28Um, and so, and it's a great, like,
- 25:32I'm super like,
- 25:33I love going up there every
- 25:35time there's a camp out there.
- 25:36I'll go, hell yeah.
- 25:37Count me in.
- 25:38I'm in just because it's,
- 25:39it's a great time and go out there.
- 25:41And plus, um,
- 25:43You get to work out with
- 25:43individuals that are very similar to you.
- 25:46There's some studs that go to that camp.
- 25:49There's some females that are amazing.
- 25:53It really helps you push.
- 25:56Yeah,
- 25:56there's – and plus I have made – like
- 25:59it's a reunion seeing all
- 26:01those people like every six months.
- 26:03Because they do – I think
- 26:04they do a camp every six months.
- 26:06But seeing some of the guys
- 26:08like Will Bennett and everything,
- 26:09like he's an awesome guy.
- 26:12And it's fun.
- 26:13It's fun.
- 26:16It's expanded outside of Louisiana.
- 26:19My neighbor, just three miles away,
- 26:21Rudy Berger,
- 26:22and his wife show up there every year.
- 26:24It's coming down from the Carolinas.
- 26:29It's actually blowing up.
- 26:31Then you have someone like Brandon Luckett,
- 26:34who everybody thought was
- 26:35retired and blows up
- 26:37quarterfinals and is in a
- 26:40third position going into semis.
- 26:42What does that do for a camp?
- 26:43Do you root for those other guys?
- 26:46Um,
- 26:48we just hope that they don't do better
- 26:49than us.
- 26:50I wouldn't say we don't root for them.
- 26:52We just hope we beat them in some.
- 26:54So, like,
- 26:54I was messaging Brandon during
- 26:56quarterfinals.
- 26:56I was like, hey, man, like,
- 26:59let me get half of these workouts, okay?
- 27:01And then you take the other two,
- 27:02and that way we call it
- 27:03even or something.
- 27:04I was like,
- 27:05or I was kind of like talking
- 27:06to him about my score.
- 27:07I said, hey, I was just like, hey,
- 27:09I hope you do good.
- 27:10Just don't do better than me.
- 27:12That's the words I use.
- 27:13So we all support each other,
- 27:16and we wish the best for them.
- 27:19But ultimately, when we go to semifinals,
- 27:22the goal is to qualify for
- 27:23each individual,
- 27:23no matter what the cost is.
- 27:25So, yeah.
- 27:28But in addition to that, you go to semis,
- 27:30and there's people that you
- 27:31know and trust and like to hang out with.
- 27:35It's got to take some of the
- 27:37stress of the weekend off.
- 27:39It definitely does.
- 27:40Especially when you go back
- 27:41to the warmup area and you
- 27:43kind of have like individuals, you know,
- 27:46you know,
- 27:46personally and talk to often it
- 27:49helps lower the stress environment,
- 27:51but what it can also do is
- 27:54it can also kind of
- 27:55sidetrack you not keep you
- 27:57focused because they'll be
- 27:59having conversations.
- 27:59So it's like that switch
- 28:00that you got to turn off back there,
- 28:02turn on and off.
- 28:05So,
- 28:06So let me ask you this.
- 28:08This is going to be kind of
- 28:08a weird question.
- 28:10Say Brandon falls out of
- 28:14contention for the games
- 28:16and you're in contention.
- 28:18Is your relationship close
- 28:19enough where he would give
- 28:20you feedback on what he
- 28:23experienced in the workout
- 28:24before you take the floor?
- 28:26If there's no shot in
- 28:27Brandon Luckett qualifying for the games,
- 28:29I think he would, yeah.
- 28:33I mean, that's just Brandon's personality.
- 28:36So I've seen it in the
- 28:37masters where like Roy and
- 28:40Rudy will be at the same
- 28:41event and Roy will give Rudy tips.
- 28:46Well, is that a, yeah.
- 28:49I think that's a different
- 28:50relationship because I mean,
- 28:52Rudy's undefeated, right?
- 28:54I don't know.
- 28:56But they, you know, Rudy and Roy,
- 28:58I know Roy personally and Roy is,
- 29:02He's about friendship and
- 29:04loyalty and stuff.
- 29:05And ultimately, those guys,
- 29:06there's a small group of
- 29:07guys that get together and
- 29:09compete with one another.
- 29:10I don't think that the...
- 29:12Especially at the games,
- 29:14you're at the games.
- 29:16I don't think that the
- 29:18competitiveness is still there.
- 29:21But at the bottom line, it's like, hey,
- 29:23there's 10 of us here.
- 29:24We are all studs.
- 29:25We all made it.
- 29:27For individuals, it's kind of...
- 29:29a little bit different for
- 29:31we got 40 guys and now we
- 29:32got it for semifinals.
- 29:33And we got only like,
- 29:35I don't even know how many
- 29:36qualify from the West.
- 29:37Having looked like I haven't
- 29:39even seen anything yet from it,
- 29:40but say there's nine of us.
- 29:42You're like, Hey, we're,
- 29:43we're all battling for nine spots.
- 29:45So it's, it's, you know, we're,
- 29:46we're battling for blood.
- 29:50Corey says Roy is one bad-ass human being,
- 29:53not just an athlete, but in general.
- 29:55That guy,
- 29:56he actually helped me and my wife
- 30:00open up the tattoo business.
- 30:02I would call him.
- 30:02He was like, hey, come up to the gym.
- 30:05And he gave me a two-hour
- 30:06crash course on everything,
- 30:07got us set up and stuff.
- 30:09That dude is an amazing individual,
- 30:12not just an athlete.
- 30:15Wad Zombie comes in.
- 30:16Tetlo versus Luckett would be cool to see.
- 30:18Come to Southland, you'll see it.
- 30:22We may need to bring back
- 30:23Fit Wars and broadcast it.
- 30:25I would love to bring back Fit Wars.
- 30:27Aren't they doing something like that?
- 30:29Isn't, like,
- 30:30James Sprague doing something
- 30:31similar to that?
- 30:33There's a couple, like, offshoots of it.
- 30:36There's, yeah, there's a couple of them.
- 30:39You know,
- 30:40Sivan's got some stuff going on
- 30:41with Taylor Self.
- 30:44I'm going to challenge
- 30:44Taylor Self here soon.
- 30:46I'm waiting for that money to go up.
- 30:50It's $1,000 this Saturday.
- 30:52I know.
- 30:52Like I said,
- 30:53I'm trying to raise some money.
- 30:56If my son's baseball game
- 30:59lines up with the time, I might go do it.
- 31:02There you go.
- 31:03That would be super cool.
- 31:09We talked about the tattoo shop.
- 31:11You're giving away a $500 tattoo.
- 31:14That might be worth the
- 31:15drive down to Louisiana.
- 31:16Yeah.
- 31:17Yeah.
- 31:18They're like 500 bucks.
- 31:19Like if you're within,
- 31:20I'd probably say within a six hour radius,
- 31:22it's definitely worth the
- 31:23drive to save some money.
- 31:25And, uh,
- 31:26how much stress has that taken off
- 31:28now that your wife is not a
- 31:29police officer anymore?
- 31:31Oh, it's night and day stress.
- 31:33Like if my schedule doesn't
- 31:36allow me to get the kids or anything,
- 31:38it was cause like
- 31:39ultimately when she was a police officer,
- 31:41she was so new and for
- 31:42anybody that kind of, you know,
- 31:45is, has experienced this.
- 31:46It's like, you have to like earn,
- 31:47I guess it's in any workspace, really.
- 31:49You have to earn like your,
- 31:51your time there.
- 31:52So I was trying to really
- 31:54allow her to focus on that.
- 31:57But now that she went off,
- 31:58now she kind of sets her own schedule.
- 32:01It's, you know, she's,
- 32:02she's home and she helps
- 32:04help out with the kids.
- 32:05Like I take Easton to
- 32:06baseball practice in the game.
- 32:09She stays home with the
- 32:09little one because it's easier on me.
- 32:11It's just, it's just night and day better.
- 32:13Like it's, it's,
- 32:14it's a rough schedule for a
- 32:15police officer.
- 32:16So for someone to go back and kind of,
- 32:18be able to make her own schedule.
- 32:19It's a lot less stressed on me.
- 32:23So your son is named Easton.
- 32:24Yes.
- 32:25And you were a former baseball player.
- 32:27Yes.
- 32:27Yeah.
- 32:28There's there, there's a, uh,
- 32:29there's a reason why he's called Easton.
- 32:31Okay.
- 32:31All right.
- 32:32He's destined to, for the major leagues.
- 32:36Uh, hopefully, I don't know.
- 32:36He just, so next month,
- 32:38actually this month,
- 32:40he's going to be playing on two base,
- 32:41two travel baseball teams, uh,
- 32:43So it's going to get a little crazy.
- 32:46So he just got accepted to
- 32:48play travel baseball, which, one,
- 32:50I'm super proud of him.
- 32:51I just went out on Amazon.
- 32:52I bought him, like,
- 32:52a batting cage for the
- 32:54house and a bunch of stuff because he's,
- 32:56like, all about it.
- 32:57So I was like, all right, well,
- 32:58we can practice here and do some stuff.
- 33:00So he's going to be doing
- 33:01that come May through July.
- 33:06It's funny,
- 33:06a friend of our family named
- 33:08their son Easton,
- 33:09who played baseball growing up,
- 33:11but then became like a
- 33:13really good basketball
- 33:14player and got a Division I
- 33:15scholarship in basketball.
- 33:17Well,
- 33:17I have no doubt my son will not be
- 33:20getting a scholarship in
- 33:21basketball because he's my
- 33:22son and I'm only 5'3".
- 33:24So I'm hoping baseball or soccer.
- 33:27He's actually really good at soccer too.
- 33:29He had the best save.
- 33:31He saved a PK, a penalty kick,
- 33:33like a diving save.
- 33:35And he got the game ball.
- 33:38So that game.
- 33:39But he's good at soccer as well.
- 33:43What fires you up more?
- 33:45Watching Easton make a
- 33:46killer save or you winning
- 33:48an event at semifinals.
- 33:52I think it's different.
- 33:54It's definitely like seeing
- 33:55my son succeed fires me up
- 33:57more than anything.
- 33:58Like he had a home run in baseball.
- 34:00Like I was jumping up and down like that.
- 34:02It's just a different type
- 34:03of emotion than than me
- 34:07going out there and winning an event.
- 34:09It's still both of them are
- 34:10very powerful memories and
- 34:12everything is just different.
- 34:14Like it fires me up, fires me up.
- 34:17one because I like I love
- 34:18the progress that he's put
- 34:20in and he's gained and then
- 34:21for me to go out there and
- 34:22win the event it's it's uh
- 34:25you know it's hey like the
- 34:27time that I've spent like
- 34:29working towards this stuff
- 34:29paying off now I got to
- 34:30keep it going it's it's
- 34:32different um it's just
- 34:34different I feel like
- 34:35emotions yeah I think with my daughter
- 34:39the stuff that that she did
- 34:41is more lasting in my
- 34:42memory um and I relive it
- 34:45more often than my own no I
- 34:49i agree I think that's
- 34:51definitely something like I
- 34:52can I think he's gonna have
- 34:54more success like more like
- 34:57especially as a kid he's gonna have
- 34:59Plus, like, I compete once, twice,
- 35:02or something in person.
- 35:03He goes and plays, does all this stuff,
- 35:05plays multiple sports.
- 35:07He has way more memories
- 35:09than I have winning events, doing, like,
- 35:12excelling in sports.
- 35:13So it's a lot more to recall.
- 35:17Yeah.
- 35:19And it's crazy, like, because I do this.
- 35:22I watched you win that event
- 35:24at the semifinals.
- 35:25And, like,
- 35:25I got fired up because I had
- 35:26just interviewed you.
- 35:28Mm-hmm.
- 35:30So that was really cool.
- 35:31And I got to interview right after that.
- 35:32So that's a memory in my mind.
- 35:37You're still active military.
- 35:39Yep.
- 35:40How long have you been in the Navy now?
- 35:43I've been in 13 and a half years.
- 35:47So I'm on my way to 20.
- 35:51And Apple gave you a thumbs up for that.
- 35:54Nice.
- 35:55Yeah.
- 35:56So you're on your way to 20.
- 35:58That's the goal is to get to
- 36:00full retirement?
- 36:01Yep, that's the goal.
- 36:03I've already invested this much, so.
- 36:09Is it hard training?
- 36:11Is it the family stuff that
- 36:13prevents you from training
- 36:14longer than 90 minutes,
- 36:15or is it the work stuff?
- 36:18It's a little bit of both.
- 36:19I try to get, like,
- 36:20I'm fortunate enough to where I have,
- 36:23like,
- 36:24Seven to nine is my scheduled PT time,
- 36:27so I try to get as much as
- 36:28I can before I come home.
- 36:32It's actually easier for me to get away,
- 36:33break away.
- 36:34During my lunchtime,
- 36:35I will go and hit a
- 36:3630-minute piece if I have time.
- 36:39When I'm at home,
- 36:40there's so much going on.
- 36:41I got the one-year-old running around.
- 36:42I can't just go out to the
- 36:43garage and just do a
- 36:4520-minute workout because
- 36:47My one-year-old will be in
- 36:49the garage with me if my wife's not home.
- 36:51Then my one-year-old will be in the garage,
- 36:52and I'm, like,
- 36:53chasing him down because
- 36:54he's going all over the place.
- 36:56So I would say probably more
- 36:59or less the family life.
- 37:02So, you know,
- 37:03the military supported me
- 37:05last time I went to semifinals.
- 37:09And so, yeah, they support me.
- 37:14So my next line of
- 37:15questioning is you got to
- 37:17go train with Bill Leahy at his home.
- 37:21Yeah.
- 37:21He looks like 20 minutes from me.
- 37:24So do you just, is from video,
- 37:27it looks like it's Rocky in the woods,
- 37:29right?
- 37:30Like kind of separated from civilization.
- 37:33And it's just about fitness
- 37:34when you get out to that property.
- 37:36Um, it's not really isolated.
- 37:38It's got, he's like his,
- 37:40he lives on a dirt road,
- 37:42but on that dirt road has, has,
- 37:44There's another house right
- 37:45directly across from his dirt road.
- 37:46But then it's – he's got
- 37:48houses all over him just –
- 37:49and where he's at,
- 37:50houses are just more spread out.
- 37:53So he's got an awesome,
- 37:56awesome shed that has – we
- 38:01can get a lot of people in there.
- 38:02So he's – that's just the rope climb.
- 38:04That's just where he has –
- 38:06He's able to do 20-foot rope climbs there.
- 38:09It was nice outside.
- 38:10Like I said,
- 38:11taking into account the
- 38:12environment that we're
- 38:13going to be outside, we were like, hey,
- 38:14let's just do the rope
- 38:16climbs outside in the barbell.
- 38:20Yeah.
- 38:22But if you notice,
- 38:23all the video footage from his place,
- 38:25all you see are trees and fitness stuff.
- 38:27Yeah.
- 38:28Imagine a U-shape from the
- 38:31back of his house going all
- 38:32the way around his garage
- 38:33in the backyard.
- 38:34It's just a U-shape of trees.
- 38:37So I could see houses, though,
- 38:38from in between those trees,
- 38:40from where we're at.
- 38:42Okay, okay.
- 38:43He's not out in the middle of nowhere.
- 38:46So how often do you get out
- 38:47there to train with him?
- 38:49I try to get out there like
- 38:50once every two weeks, whenever my,
- 38:52whenever my schedule lines up,
- 38:53he's always a good person to,
- 38:56to link up with.
- 38:56And plus it's like,
- 38:57he does his own programming too.
- 38:59So I usually line up my, I do all my week.
- 39:04I do all my programming a week in advance.
- 39:06And so if I know that I'm going out there,
- 39:08I said, Hey,
- 39:09this is what I have on Friday say,
- 39:13and he'll plan his schedule
- 39:15based off of what I got.
- 39:16And we'll kind of just like,
- 39:18We'll throw in a mixture of
- 39:20what he wants to do versus
- 39:22what I want to do.
- 39:23And I love working out with
- 39:25him because he's just like, hey,
- 39:28get there, warm up, let's go.
- 39:30All right, on to the next piece.
- 39:31So we are – it's the way I like to train.
- 39:35Like some people will – some
- 39:36people like take 45 minutes
- 39:39to warm up and –
- 39:40Like, hey, they'll take 20 minutes,
- 39:4230 minutes in between pieces.
- 39:43It's like, nope,
- 39:45our cleanup time is our
- 39:46rest time for the next piece.
- 39:47And we try to plan it
- 39:48smartly to where it's not,
- 39:51like we're not going from
- 39:52one tough piece to another tough piece.
- 39:54So we're like completely,
- 39:55the intensity is not there.
- 39:58But yeah, like he's just,
- 40:00we're here to work out, let's work out.
- 40:03And just like Brandon,
- 40:04you want him to do well at semis,
- 40:05but at least one spot
- 40:06behind you on every event.
- 40:08Right, exactly.
- 40:09So that's why I tell him that, you know,
- 40:12he's definitely he's
- 40:14probably the fastest
- 40:15growing like CrossFit
- 40:17athlete that I've at least heard of.
- 40:19No, personally,
- 40:20because two years ago he hit me up.
- 40:23I think it was twenty twenty one.
- 40:25Yeah, 2021, he hit me up.
- 40:26He was like, hey,
- 40:27he found out I lived in Slidell,
- 40:30and he looked, like I said,
- 40:3120 minutes away.
- 40:32He's like, can I come train with you?
- 40:33And I was like, yeah.
- 40:34And now two years later,
- 40:35he's definitely crushing it.
- 40:41Well, he's got Hiller in his corner too,
- 40:43which is one of the fastest
- 40:44growing YouTube channels in this space.
- 40:46So that's pretty cool too.
- 40:49Yeah.
- 40:50And you two are very different athletes.
- 40:52So that's why that's another thing.
- 40:54Like, like I hit him up and I was like,
- 40:56Hey, like this is like this,
- 40:58this piece is what I'm thinking for,
- 41:00for me.
- 41:01But I, what the other day I said, Hey,
- 41:03I want to do machine work,
- 41:05program something machine.
- 41:06Cause that's what I need to work on.
- 41:07He goes, all right,
- 41:08as long as we can throw
- 41:09some burpees in there, I said,
- 41:10throw some burpees in there.
- 41:11I'll just prioritize the machine work,
- 41:13try to max output on that.
- 41:16And then you prioritize,
- 41:17cause he's great at machines.
- 41:18And I was like,
- 41:18you just maximize the burpees.
- 41:20Okay.
- 41:23Well,
- 41:24that's super cool that you have those
- 41:25relationships.
- 41:25And it is funny,
- 41:27like Louisiana has become
- 41:28this hotbed of CrossFit athletes,
- 41:32as Mark has put in the chat.
- 41:34Leahy, Luckett, Scott, Max Krieg, Brian.
- 41:38Yep.
- 41:40Yeah.
- 41:43Corey Leonard.
- 41:47Qualified for semifinals, right?
- 41:48In the Masters Division.
- 41:51Yeah,
- 41:52you got Roy that'll throw down with us.
- 41:55So, yeah, it's a bunch.
- 41:58So we had a burpee challenge
- 42:02with Jake Berman and Colton Mertens,
- 42:04and I had to get your take.
- 42:07As someone that can fly through burpees,
- 42:11do you think you have some
- 42:12contention in the fastest
- 42:13burpees in the world?
- 42:15I just wish that... So,
- 42:17Hiller was over at Will's
- 42:19house when I was over there,
- 42:20and he asked me the question.
- 42:23Off the record.
- 42:24But I said,
- 42:25I just wish he would have
- 42:26challenged somebody who
- 42:29would have given him a run for his money.
- 42:33Wow.
- 42:38And you might be that someone?
- 42:40I believe I could, yeah.
- 42:41So, I mean...
- 42:43Not like – whenever the workout came out,
- 42:45I was like, oh, well, whatever.
- 42:47And my buddy, John,
- 42:49my coach was just like talking about it.
- 42:51I was like, yeah,
- 42:52like we tied in a 10,000
- 42:54competition for – I can't
- 42:55remember what the time
- 42:56domain was for burpees,
- 42:57but we literally tied –
- 42:59And then the burpee box jump
- 43:01workout from regionals last year,
- 43:04you know, we tied, really,
- 43:06even though the reason I
- 43:07won is because I didn't
- 43:09even know that was the thing.
- 43:10The reason I won is because
- 43:10I got one more rep than him
- 43:12on the first round.
- 43:13That was the tiebreaker.
- 43:14And so we tied.
- 43:15I feel like him and I are
- 43:17very similar to burpees
- 43:19because we're the same height.
- 43:20So, yeah,
- 43:21I think I would have definitely
- 43:22given him a run for his money,
- 43:23if not probably beat him.
- 43:26There it is.
- 43:27Heard it here first.
- 43:28And I got that on the record.
- 43:30Power of the staff now.
- 43:34Mark says, here we go.
- 43:42Well, this has been fun.
- 43:44I'm going to look at my
- 43:44notes one more time,
- 43:45make sure I hit everything.
- 43:46And the kids are doing well.
- 43:51Yeah, kids are doing good.
- 43:53The littlest one, Bradley,
- 43:55is growing up super fast.
- 43:56He's going to be two in July.
- 43:59And Easton's going to be nine in July.
- 44:00Their birthdays are two weeks apart.
- 44:04The other one is doing a field trip.
- 44:07He's doing a field trip
- 44:08today to his new middle school next year.
- 44:12So he's going to be – they
- 44:13do middle school four
- 44:14through eight down here,
- 44:16which is weird to me.
- 44:18So he's going to a new school next year.
- 44:20He's nervous about it.
- 44:21But, yeah, no,
- 44:22the kids have been doing good.
- 44:25Yeah,
- 44:26middle school was our toughest time
- 44:27as a parent,
- 44:29and I can't believe they're extending it.
- 44:33We only had seven through nine.
- 44:36Okay.
- 44:37Yeah, I had six through eight.
- 44:40So elementary was one through five,
- 44:43and middle school was six through eight,
- 44:45high school nine through 12.
- 44:46That might have been it.
- 44:48It actually might have been
- 44:49six through eight.
- 44:51But that stretch was as hard
- 44:54as it ever was being a parent.
- 44:57Why is that?
- 44:59It's just, it's the new school.
- 45:01It's kids that weren't with
- 45:03you in elementary school
- 45:04are being mixed into the
- 45:06hopper and trying to find
- 45:08your identity as a kid.
- 45:10It with all that going on,
- 45:12hopefully like his sports
- 45:14help him through that.
- 45:16Right.
- 45:17Well, no, that's good info.
- 45:18This is stuff I got to look
- 45:19forward to and kind of project.
- 45:21So yeah,
- 45:23Yeah, any insight,
- 45:26please feel free to share.
- 45:28In our school district,
- 45:29we have 18 elementary
- 45:31schools and three middle schools.
- 45:33So all that gets, like,
- 45:34funneled down into three.
- 45:36So you're adding batches of
- 45:38kids that don't know each
- 45:39other into one hopper.
- 45:41Yeah, I can see that.
- 45:42I mean, that's kind of how it was for me,
- 45:44too, now that I think about it.
- 45:46Yeah.
- 45:48and my daughter went to
- 45:49school young so looking
- 45:51back I probably wouldn't
- 45:52have done that again and so
- 45:54my son is actually he's
- 45:56young for his grade so all
- 45:58like right now he's sports
- 46:00like all of his friends
- 46:00that he goes to class with
- 46:02he they're all in he's
- 46:05still in coach pitch so
- 46:06they're all everyone else
- 46:07that he's in school with
- 46:08that's good friends of them
- 46:09they're in kids pitch so and
- 46:12Like that's the, that's another thing.
- 46:13Like as far as, yeah,
- 46:14sports will definitely help,
- 46:15but it's going to come to
- 46:16that time to where, you know,
- 46:19he's not going to be
- 46:19playing with all his
- 46:20friends that are here that
- 46:21are in his grade.
- 46:23Just like to kind of like now,
- 46:24but you know,
- 46:25they're in a smaller school.
- 46:26So that definitely could
- 46:28have some effects.
- 46:30Yeah.
- 46:30My daughter was into music.
- 46:31So it was,
- 46:33what helped her was finding band
- 46:36like to get in with that group of people.
- 46:38And then you have your people.
- 46:41And that's what it is with
- 46:42middle school and high
- 46:43school is you got to find your group.
- 46:46No, for sure.
- 46:47Yeah, I can see that.
- 46:49So.
- 46:50Well, this has been fun, man.
- 46:53I can't wait to see you out in Carson.
- 46:56Yeah, looking forward to it.
- 46:58It's going to be.
- 46:59Yeah, I'm going to do my best.
- 47:01So I'm excited for it.
- 47:03And it's always a good time
- 47:05whenever you get to compete in person.
- 47:08Yeah, well, thanks a bunch.
- 47:09We'll see you then.
- 47:10Thanks to everybody in the
- 47:11chat for being here.
- 47:12You guys have been awesome.
- 47:14And we'll catch everybody
- 47:14next time on Clydesdale
- 47:16Media Semi-Finalist Series.
- 47:19Bye, guys.
