- 1:11Speaker 1: brand carry on suitcase. As you probably know. I travel
- 1:15Speaker 1: quite a bit for work, and one of my cardinal
- 1:18Speaker 1: rules is to never check a bag on a flight,
- 1:22Speaker 1: even on a long trip. I would rather do laundry
- 1:25Speaker 1: on the road than wait at baggage claim or worse,
- 1:29Speaker 1: deal with lost luggage. Well. One of my Christmas gifts
- 1:33Speaker 1: this year was a carry on suitcase made by a
- 1:35Speaker 1: company named Away, and it's awesome. It's lightweight but durable,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and while it's small enough to fit into a typical
- 1:44Speaker 1: carry on compartment, it somehow seems to have extra space
- 1:48Speaker 1: when you open it. So if you're in the market
- 1:51Speaker 1: for a new suitcase, I recommend checking out away travel
- 1:56Speaker 1: dot com. Now time for the radio relays from Saturdays.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Had to have it win in Pittsburgh. It is the
- 2:05Speaker 1: final night of the regular season for the Cincinnati Bengals,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and in order to have any chance of advancing to
- 2:12Speaker 1: the playoffs next week, they must beat the Pittsburgh Steelers
- 2:16Speaker 1: tonight on a bitterly cold and wintry evening in the
- 2:21Speaker 1: Steel City. And it is time for the pig skin
- 2:24Speaker 1: to fly. Here at Akroshure Stadium, second down and three
- 2:29Speaker 1: at the twelve yard line of Pittsburgh Burrow looking to
- 2:31Speaker 1: pass again. He first a strike god Jamar Chase with
- 2:35Speaker 1: a touchdown. The Bengals score on their opening drive, and
- 2:40Speaker 1: Jamar Chase has just made franchise history. It's his seventeenth
- 2:46Speaker 1: touchdown catch of the year, tying Carl Pickens single season
- 2:51Speaker 1: franchise Mark Russell Wilsonson's pickins in motion. He's back to throw,
- 2:56Speaker 1: looking scrambling, pucking hands. Sack Hendrickson, who began the game
- 3:03Speaker 1: tied for the NFL lead in sacks with Miles Garrett
- 3:06Speaker 1: fourteen apiece, get this fifteenth of the year, and.
- 3:09Speaker 2: That was really a good rush by everybody.
- 3:12Speaker 1: We'll see if he can come through from forty eight
- 3:14Speaker 1: yards away. Adamidas, who played here at pitt snaps it back.
- 3:18Speaker 1: The kick is on its way. It is good. Kay
- 3:23Speaker 1: New York comes through and the Bengals have taken a
- 3:28Speaker 1: ten nothing lead. First and goal from the one for
- 3:31Speaker 1: the Steelers after the penalty on Cam Taylor Brett. It's
- 3:34Speaker 1: a handoff the Najie Harris and he goes into the
- 3:36Speaker 1: end zone standing up for a Pittsburgh Steelers touchdown. Ryan
- 3:40Speaker 1: Rico will punt for the first time tonight. Calvin Austin
- 3:43Speaker 1: is the returner for the Steelers. He's dangerous. Rico, the
- 3:47Speaker 1: rookie out of Byu. Hammer's a long, long punt, back
- 3:51Speaker 1: pedaling all the way to the twenty five. To catch
- 3:53Speaker 1: it is Austin running to the thirty. The ball comes
- 3:57Speaker 1: out at the thirty three yard line. They got it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: They got it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: No official indication yet.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I saw a fall on it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, they do it, and there it is.
- 4:07Speaker 2: They got it.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Higgins out to the left, Three receivers out to the right,
- 4:10Speaker 1: including Chase nearest to the offensive line, Cam Grandy and
- 4:15Speaker 1: Gasiki also out to the right. Burrow with a quick
- 4:18Speaker 1: throw and it is nearly picked off by Queen and
- 4:21Speaker 1: it is deflected toward a teammate and intercepted.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Wow wow, I mean that was a great you talk
- 4:28Speaker 2: about staying with the ball. Beanie Bishop Junior comes away
- 4:32Speaker 2: with the football.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Wilson is under center. See if he actually runs a
- 4:36Speaker 1: play on fourth and one. He touches both sides of
- 4:38Speaker 1: his helmet, hasn't snapped it yet. Now he does hands
- 4:41Speaker 1: it off. The Bengals get into the backfield to.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Make the tackle.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They stopped him.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I don't know. He's getting a good spot. He's getting
- 4:48Speaker 2: a good spot.
- 4:49Speaker 1: You're right, yeah, wow, man, my mistake. After review, the
- 4:54Speaker 1: runner was short of the line. The game first down Cincinnati,
- 4:58Speaker 1: Boore I withdraw my apology. Burrow in the gun, Herbert
- 5:03Speaker 1: to his left. It's a two by two formation. Chase
- 5:06Speaker 1: out wide to the right, Higgins out wide to the left.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Burrow throwing deep for Higgins. He leaps and comes down
- 5:12Speaker 1: to the ball inside the ten. He stops the clock
- 5:16Speaker 1: as he goes out of bounds at the nine. The snap,
- 5:19Speaker 1: the placement, and the right footed dick. It is good
- 5:22Speaker 1: and the Bengals have a six point lead, thirteen to seven,
- 5:27Speaker 1: with sixteen seconds left in the half. All right, here
- 5:30Speaker 1: comes a thirty five yard field goal attempt for Cad York,
- 5:35Speaker 1: trying to give Cincinnati a sixteen to seven lead. Rico
- 5:39Speaker 1: catches places the ball down. The kick is on its
- 5:42Speaker 1: way and it is good and the Bengals lead the
- 5:46Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers by nine, sixteen to seven. It is second
- 5:52Speaker 1: down and five from the Pittsburgh forty one. Chase goes
- 5:55Speaker 1: in motion, winds up wide to the left. They throw
- 5:58Speaker 1: it deep for Jamar. What an adjustment to the ball
- 6:02Speaker 1: as he stops on a dime, comes back to the
- 6:05Speaker 1: ball and beats Trice for the catch at the twenty
- 6:08Speaker 1: two yard line. Kade York looking for his fourth field
- 6:12Speaker 1: goal of the game. It's a twenty three yard try
- 6:14Speaker 1: from the left hash His right footed gick is absolutely perfect,
- 6:20Speaker 1: and the Bengals have a twelve point lead. In the
- 6:24Speaker 1: fourth quarter, Patterson lines up in the backfield Wilson to
- 6:27Speaker 1: throw again. Cocks the yard has a man wide open,
- 6:31Speaker 1: caught by Friar Mooth and he runs into the end
- 6:33Speaker 1: zone for the Pittsburgh touchdown. Weightman into punt. He waits
- 6:37Speaker 1: at his own five for the long snap. His left
- 6:40Speaker 1: footed punt who not going very far. It is going
- 6:44Speaker 1: to bounce to the Bengals touch that the ball goes
- 6:48Speaker 1: out of bounds or did it get recovered by Pittsburgh
- 6:51Speaker 1: first Steelers have it so Isaiah Williams did not give
- 6:57Speaker 1: a definitive enough signal for his teammates to get out
- 7:01Speaker 1: of the way. Connor Hayward recovers the ball that hit
- 7:06Speaker 1: a Bengals blocker to allow Pittsburgh to recover it.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I mean, it was a punt that was mishit, and
- 7:13Speaker 2: at that point you gotta yell fire or whatever your
- 7:17Speaker 2: code word it is to get out of the way.
- 7:19Speaker 1: On second to nine, Russell Wilson to throw. Trey hendricks
- 7:23Speaker 1: In sacks him at the thirty three yard line. Came
- 7:26Speaker 1: with a wide rush, beat the left tackle more and
- 7:30Speaker 1: sacked Russell Wilson. Boswell has made forty field goals this year.
- 7:34Speaker 1: That is a Steelers single season record. Here comes his
- 7:38Speaker 1: fifty four yard attempt. It's on its way. It is good.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yep, unreal. I mean in this weather for him to
- 7:46Speaker 2: hit that thing like he hit that, Are you kidding me?
- 7:49Speaker 2: That's like hitting the brick.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Clock is running thirty one seconds to go. They still
- 7:53Speaker 1: need to gain about twenty yards to be in field
- 7:56Speaker 1: goal range. Bryan Mos thirty five seconds to go. Shotgun snap,
- 8:00Speaker 1: Wilson under pressure, sacked, Trey Hendrickson does it again at
- 8:06Speaker 1: the forty yard line. Time out Pittsburgh twenty seconds to go.
- 8:11Speaker 1: The Bengals playoff fate comes down to this play, fourth
- 8:15Speaker 1: down and twelve with fifteen seconds to go. If they
- 8:17Speaker 1: get a stop, their playoff hopes will be alive tomorrow.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Hope alive. Wilson sends two receivers out to each side
- 8:25Speaker 1: of the formation. Russell has the ball short drop fires
- 8:29Speaker 1: a pass incomplete. Friarmouth couldn't hold on hand with eleven
- 8:34Speaker 1: seconds to go.
- 8:36Speaker 2: That is coffin nailam, bam bam.
- 8:41Speaker 1: The Bengals playoff hopes are still alive, and tomorrow at
- 8:45Speaker 1: four in the afternoon, we are all about to be
- 8:49Speaker 1: the world's biggest fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and
- 8:53Speaker 1: the New York Jets, needing those two teams to win
- 8:57Speaker 1: in order for the Bengals to deep playing. The final
- 9:02Speaker 1: score Cincinnati nineteen Pittsburgh seventeen. The Bengals end the regular
- 9:07Speaker 1: season with a five game winning streak and the Steelers
- 9:10Speaker 1: end with a four game losing streak. Speaking of streaks,
- 9:14Speaker 1: Joe burrows streak of consecutive games with three touchdown passes
- 9:18Speaker 1: ended at eight, but considering the frigid conditions and injuries
- 9:23Speaker 1: on the Bengals offensive line, Joe was outstanding, completing eighty
- 9:28Speaker 1: percent of his forty six passes for two hundred and
- 9:31Speaker 1: seventy seven yards with one touchdown and onet. Joe ends
- 9:36Speaker 1: the season with franchise records for passing yards with four thy,
- 9:39Speaker 1: nine hundred and eighteen touchdown passes with forty three and
- 9:44Speaker 1: passer rating at one oh eight point five. Joe will
- 9:47Speaker 1: lead the league in passing yards unless Jared Goff throws
- 9:51Speaker 1: four five twenty on Sunday night against the Vikings, and
- 9:55Speaker 1: he'll lead the league in touchdown passes unless Baker Mayfield
- 9:59Speaker 1: tosses five on Sunday afternoon against the Saints. Here are
- 10:03Speaker 1: some of the things Burrow told reporters after the game.
- 10:07Speaker 4: You know, our execution in the red zone wasn't good enough.
- 10:10Speaker 3: That's kind of.
- 10:11Speaker 4: The story of the game. I'm not sure how many
- 10:13Speaker 4: field goals we kicked, four, three or four something like that,
- 10:17Speaker 4: So you know, if we convert a couple of those
- 10:19Speaker 4: into touchdowns.
- 10:19Speaker 3: That's a different game.
- 10:22Speaker 4: You know, I would like to have finished that game
- 10:24Speaker 4: on offense and punched those into the end zone.
- 10:26Speaker 3: But our our defense stepped up and picked up the slack.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Our defensive young.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Guys and guys that have played great in the past
- 10:34Speaker 4: have have started playing well. And then Trey Henderson, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 4: after tonight, I don't know who else is gonna win
- 10:41Speaker 4: Defensive Player of the Year other than him. He was
- 10:44Speaker 4: incredible tonight. Any time that he didn't have chip help,
- 10:48Speaker 4: he was getting to quarterback. Anytime you don't make the playoffs,
- 10:52Speaker 4: it's a failure. That's what you're you're aiming for every year.
- 10:55Speaker 4: That's why you work so hard as to be at
- 10:57Speaker 4: your best at in the end. And you know, these
- 11:00Speaker 4: last five weeks we have been we just you know,
- 11:02Speaker 4: weren't able to find an extra win early in the
- 11:04Speaker 4: season that that would put us in a better spot.
- 11:07Speaker 4: You know, I know that, you know, if we get
- 11:09Speaker 4: and we can make some noise with with the players
- 11:11Speaker 4: and coaches that we have in this building, and we
- 11:14Speaker 4: just gotta hope for hope for some hell tomorrow and
- 11:18Speaker 4: I'll sit back and watch it. I thought i'd have
- 11:20Speaker 4: my best year. I think I did. H The year
- 11:25Speaker 4: after a ligament injury like that is always better. You know,
- 11:28Speaker 4: I threw it well this year, I don't think. I
- 11:31Speaker 4: still think I can throw it way better.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Uh.
- 11:35Speaker 4: You know, early in the season you're still getting a
- 11:37Speaker 4: field for for how that risk is feeling. You're breaking
- 11:40Speaker 4: up scar tissue, you're doing a lot of different things
- 11:42Speaker 4: to to help it, and it gets better as the
- 11:44Speaker 4: season goes. So I expect next year to be better.
- 11:49Speaker 4: That's that's how it was with my knee. That's how
- 11:52Speaker 4: ligament injuries typically go. So I'm expecting to to grind
- 11:57Speaker 4: this offseason and take a jump next year.
- 12:00Speaker 1: The man is never satisfied. His favorite target, Jamar Chase,
- 12:05Speaker 1: had ten catches for ninety six yards and a touchdown
- 12:09Speaker 1: and has a healthy lead in all three triple crowned
- 12:12Speaker 1: categories with one hundred and twenty seven catches for one thousand,
- 12:17Speaker 1: seven hundred and eight yards and seventeen touchdowns. My postgame
- 12:21Speaker 1: interview with Noumero who Know, begins with Jamar praising the
- 12:25Speaker 1: Bengals defense.
- 12:28Speaker 5: They've been stepping up tremendously a lot the past couple
- 12:31Speaker 5: of weeks. Trey going trade dangs today, but you know
- 12:36Speaker 5: they always find way to getst the ball back.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You finish the season with the five game winning streak,
- 12:40Speaker 1: your playoff hopes are alive. What's the emotion in this
- 12:44Speaker 1: locker room right now?
- 12:46Speaker 3: Right now?
- 12:46Speaker 5: Everybody happy? We just got this winning in Pittsburgh. So
- 12:50Speaker 5: you know, right now we're just letting the dice roll
- 12:53Speaker 5: and take the chances about what's gonna having them out.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Ten catches just under one hundred yards and a touchdown.
- 12:59Speaker 1: How challenging it under these conditions.
- 13:03Speaker 5: It was pretty challenging mentally wise, you know, just standing
- 13:06Speaker 5: in the game, noise, cold, but you know, we practiced
- 13:10Speaker 5: for the outside in the cold for a reason.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So the peasants of the game, is that seventeenth touchdown
- 13:14Speaker 1: really satisfying for you? No? No, no, why not?
- 13:19Speaker 5: Because I dropped two touchdowns in the past two weeks?
- 13:22Speaker 3: So what that would have been?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Nineteen seventeen's not bad. Nineteen sounds better though, hard to dispute.
- 13:32Speaker 1: All right, So what's tomorrow going to be like? Needing
- 13:35Speaker 1: help from Kansas City and the Jets to advance to
- 13:38Speaker 1: the playoffs in Buffalo?
- 13:41Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 13:41Speaker 2: Man?
- 13:43Speaker 5: You know, hopefully postably we get what we want. And
- 13:47Speaker 5: like I said, you gotta let the dice roll right now.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Joe started the game by completing his first twelve passes
- 13:53Speaker 1: nineteen degrees seven degree win chill. What did you think
- 13:57Speaker 1: of the way that he performed Coming out of the.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Game, I was going to have a I thought it
- 14:01Speaker 5: was gonna be a long night for the defense once
- 14:03Speaker 5: you know, I see him start off so good.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Did Pittsburgh change anything up or just their good players
- 14:09Speaker 1: start making some plays?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Uh?
- 14:11Speaker 5: They change it up a little bit after the first
- 14:14Speaker 5: drive at the first out of change it up?
- 14:16Speaker 1: All right? If my math is correct. You lead in
- 14:19Speaker 1: catches by eighteen, you lead in yards by two hundred
- 14:23Speaker 1: and twenty seven, you lead in touchdowns by five. Barring
- 14:28Speaker 1: some of the greatest single games in NFL history, you
- 14:31Speaker 1: are going to win the triple crown. Can you describe
- 14:35Speaker 1: what appears to be that accomplishment.
- 14:39Speaker 5: It feels good, you know that I finally haven't on
- 14:42Speaker 5: toneath my belt, but I'm still worried about the playoffs
- 14:46Speaker 5: right now be in a triple crown, but I'm I'm happy.
- 14:49Speaker 5: I'm excited that I got to appreciate Joe and the
- 14:51Speaker 5: rest of the team for helping me.
- 14:52Speaker 1: It comes in if you can get in, if you
- 14:55Speaker 1: make it to the playoffs. What do you think this
- 14:57Speaker 1: team can do the way you ended this season.
- 15:00Speaker 5: They gotta take a one game at a time, you know,
- 15:02Speaker 5: like you did the last five weeks.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Where about what we.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Got in front of us, take advantage are the players
- 15:07Speaker 5: that we get an opportunities that we get in a
- 15:09Speaker 5: game and make the most outble.
- 15:11Speaker 1: As for the defense, I told Trey Hendrickson after the
- 15:14Speaker 1: game that the best performance I had ever seen by
- 15:17Speaker 1: a Bengals defensive player was also in Pittsburgh when Gino
- 15:22Speaker 1: Atkins lived in the Steelers' backfield in a game that
- 15:25Speaker 1: clinched a playoff spot in twenty twelve. Well, I think
- 15:29Speaker 1: Gino is now number two on my list after watching
- 15:33Speaker 1: Trey get three and a half sacks and five quarterback
- 15:36Speaker 1: hits with nearly all of them coming in crucial situations.
- 15:43Speaker 6: Well, first and foremost, I want to thank my Lord
- 15:45Speaker 6: and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 15:46Speaker 1: He's my foundation, my rock.
- 15:48Speaker 6: All glory to God and my wife. She's been amazing
- 15:53Speaker 6: through this season taking care of our son.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Huge support group.
- 15:58Speaker 6: I'm just incredibly bless and humbled to be in the
- 16:01Speaker 6: position to help this team win and give ourselves the
- 16:04Speaker 6: best chance to go.
- 16:04Speaker 1: To the playoffs. He finished the season on a five
- 16:07Speaker 1: game winning streak, and during that stretch, the defense gave
- 16:10Speaker 1: up less than twenty points a game. You guys really
- 16:13Speaker 1: turned it around over the final month of the season.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 6: Credit to Loui an Arumo doing his job, you know,
- 16:20Speaker 6: changing things up, getting people in the right position to produce.
- 16:24Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:24Speaker 6: Credit to the rest of their coaching staff coming up
- 16:26Speaker 6: with good game plans and shutting teams.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Down so Pittsburgh gets the ball with less than two
- 16:31Speaker 1: minutes to go, a field goal can win it. Chris
- 16:33Speaker 1: Boswell's been the best kicker in the league. The defense
- 16:36Speaker 1: had to come up big, and you guys did. How
- 16:39Speaker 1: satisfying is that in light of the roller coaster ride
- 16:43Speaker 1: that this season has been.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Well, you know, we got a chance to redefine our
- 16:46Speaker 6: identity as a defense a little bit. And like I said,
- 16:49Speaker 6: that starts with coaching and then players, you know, at
- 16:51Speaker 6: four and eight responding to the call.
- 16:54Speaker 1: So credited leaders in this locker room.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Like Sam Hubbard keeping us together even though he went
- 16:58Speaker 6: down in Tennessee, can't say enough about his character, his leadership.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Guys like bj.
- 17:04Speaker 6: Hill becoming vocal leading our defensive line, and obviously the
- 17:09Speaker 6: rest of the guys to remain pratt lying around out there,
- 17:13Speaker 6: and Genostone making a lot of plays for us, Josh
- 17:15Speaker 6: Newton stepping up.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I can continue to.
- 17:17Speaker 6: Keep going on, but for the sake of time, we'll if.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Seventeen and a half sacks Miles Garrett didn't have any today,
- 17:27Speaker 1: you are almost certainly going to lead the league. A
- 17:29Speaker 1: Bengal has never done that since sack has been an
- 17:33Speaker 1: official stat What does that accomplishment mean to you?
- 17:36Speaker 6: It gives me a platform to glorify the Lord. You know,
- 17:39Speaker 6: it's not about me selfishly, there's eleven other or ten
- 17:43Speaker 6: other guys that complete this defense, and I'm able to
- 17:46Speaker 6: produce on my edge. I'm very blessed to do what
- 17:49Speaker 6: I love. This is what I was born to do.
- 17:52Speaker 6: And you know, my wife being there for me in
- 17:54Speaker 6: this whole process. She's been so strong and taking care
- 17:58Speaker 6: of our son and obviously take care of me. So
- 18:01Speaker 6: I'm very blessed to have that support group. And you know,
- 18:05Speaker 6: it's pretty cool.
- 18:06Speaker 1: You guys did your part. You need help tomorrow. What
- 18:09Speaker 1: is tomorrow going to be like? Nerve racking? Exciting? Can
- 18:13Speaker 1: you describe the emotions of hoping to get some help
- 18:16Speaker 1: from the Jets and Chiefs tomorrow?
- 18:18Speaker 6: Well as far as our twenty twenty four defense, it's
- 18:21Speaker 6: the man in the arena kind of accomplishes.
- 18:24Speaker 2: What we'd like to say.
- 18:26Speaker 1: We give it her all.
- 18:28Speaker 6: Some things are out of our control right now, but
- 18:30Speaker 6: giving you your best is what it's about. You leave
- 18:32Speaker 6: the field with your head high, knowing that you did
- 18:35Speaker 6: everything to win, and then you can sleep like a
- 18:37Speaker 6: baby at night.
- 18:38Speaker 1: A heck of a game and an unbelievable season. Congratulations Tray,
- 18:41Speaker 1: Thank you appreciate it. Ray finished the year with seventeen
- 18:45Speaker 1: and a half sacks for the second year in a
- 18:48Speaker 1: row and should get consideration for NFL Defensive Player of
- 18:52Speaker 1: the Year. Now let's hear what Zach Taylor had to
- 18:55Speaker 1: says he spent a few minutes with Dave Lapham after
- 18:58Speaker 1: the game.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Things head coach Zac Taylor, congratulations, sir, thank you.
- 19:04Speaker 1: It's good to good win man.
- 19:05Speaker 7: It's hard to win on the road in the ANFC North,
- 19:06Speaker 7: and really proud of the way the guys stuck together
- 19:09Speaker 7: and found a way to get it done.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Give me your first reaction when you had time to
- 19:14Speaker 2: catch your breath and everything that was going through your
- 19:17Speaker 2: through your mind during the course of the game and
- 19:19Speaker 2: you had chance to exhale, what's your first thought.
- 19:23Speaker 7: This is what we visualized. You know, there was no
- 19:25Speaker 7: situation where we're going to walk out of here with
- 19:26Speaker 7: a loss. That's not anything that crossed any of our minds.
- 19:29Speaker 7: We fully expected to win this game, and our guys
- 19:32Speaker 7: got it done.
- 19:33Speaker 2: And I'll tell you the grit and the determination defensively,
- 19:37Speaker 2: coach down the stretch, the five football games that you
- 19:41Speaker 2: guys want in a row and once again compimentary football.
- 19:45Speaker 2: You know, there's a problem with special teams, you know,
- 19:48Speaker 2: ball hits on a leg and those are tough things.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Those are tough things. I mean the punts mishit, you
- 19:54Speaker 2: don't know where it is. But defensively they step up,
- 19:57Speaker 2: you know, and it was just an a great example
- 20:00Speaker 2: of contmary football.
- 20:02Speaker 7: Absolutely, you know, I thought, I thought in all three phases,
- 20:05Speaker 7: guys stepped up at key moments. Offense played well early
- 20:09Speaker 7: on to get us a lead and keep putting points
- 20:11Speaker 7: on the board. Defense came up with some key stops.
- 20:13Speaker 7: Special teams had their day as well. So just really
- 20:17Speaker 7: really proud of our football team.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Got a lot of respect for the offensive line. You know,
- 20:21Speaker 2: there's a lot of there were injuries there, guys are
- 20:24Speaker 2: playing different positions and showing versatility. Cody Ford, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 2: stepped up, you know, really big for you you know,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and then Amarius comes in when when he needs to
- 20:33Speaker 2: come in and and does what he has to do.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I just think, again, in my mind watching this football
- 20:40Speaker 2: game as a form alignment, I thought the game was
- 20:42Speaker 2: was one of the trenches on both sides of it.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I did too.
- 20:44Speaker 7: I mean, we dropped back in pass against one of
- 20:46Speaker 7: the best fronts in football a lot, and so we
- 20:49Speaker 7: put a lot of pressure on those guys and they
- 20:51Speaker 7: rose to the challenge. And so just just really proud
- 20:54Speaker 7: of the effort they gave and ability to get some
- 20:57Speaker 7: runs off when we needed to as well Khalil Herbert
- 21:00Speaker 7: and his first first start with us, you know, to
- 21:02Speaker 7: get the reps he did. Just really really thankful for
- 21:05Speaker 7: those guys up front.
- 21:06Speaker 2: You know, to me, that's that's a credit to everybody,
- 21:08Speaker 2: credit to him, a credit to you and your coaching staff.
- 21:12Speaker 2: You know, obviously he's a very intelligent guy, but I mean,
- 21:14Speaker 2: you guys, to have him ready to go out and
- 21:17Speaker 2: do what he did the way he did it, it's
- 21:20Speaker 2: really impressive.
- 21:20Speaker 7: It's a huge credit to Justin Hill. I mean, he
- 21:22Speaker 7: works with all these guys. We got guys on the
- 21:24Speaker 7: active roster practice squad and in a moment like this,
- 21:27Speaker 7: you know, we were down Zach Moss. We lost Zach
- 21:29Speaker 7: Moss halfway through the season. Chase Brown now out, so
- 21:32Speaker 7: a guy that we traded for some guys that we've
- 21:34Speaker 7: acquired on the practice squad of the season's gone on,
- 21:36Speaker 7: Justin has got those guys into position where we felt
- 21:39Speaker 7: like they could help us win the game. And so
- 21:40Speaker 7: credit to those backs, credit to Justin Pittsburgh.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Steelers had gone through some injuries, but they were very
- 21:46Speaker 2: healthy here for this football game. You guys were trying
- 21:49Speaker 2: to like cobble it together and get it done again.
- 21:53Speaker 2: That just says a lot about the depth of your
- 21:55Speaker 2: football team, how everybody cares about each other with respect
- 21:59Speaker 2: your foot ball team. It says a lot.
- 22:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, we've had our fair share of six
- 22:03Speaker 7: day weeks these last couple of weeks, and our guys
- 22:05Speaker 7: haven't complained, spoken up one bit about it. It's just
- 22:08Speaker 7: it is what it is, and all we can control
- 22:11Speaker 7: is how we play on game day. And so these
- 22:13Speaker 7: guys are beat up right now. I mean it's if
- 22:15Speaker 7: you watched practice, you would see guys are barely even moving,
- 22:18Speaker 7: you know, they're so beat up. But on game day
- 22:20Speaker 7: they give it everything they got and really proud of
- 22:22Speaker 7: them and hopeful that we get in and we get
- 22:25Speaker 7: a chance to do it again.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Trey Hendrickson, I mean he's kind of limping. He limps
- 22:29Speaker 2: off the field, comes back, getting gives you a sack,
- 22:32Speaker 2: and he's kind of like living it. I don't know
- 22:34Speaker 2: if it was his side or what it was. He
- 22:36Speaker 2: looked like he was definitely struggling though. Was it up
- 22:37Speaker 2: in the rib k?
- 22:38Speaker 1: Yeah, he got a nice rib shot.
- 22:39Speaker 7: You know, it's hard to block him one on one,
- 22:41Speaker 7: so sometimes you got to call in some reserves to
- 22:43Speaker 7: help from the side, and he got that today, and
- 22:45Speaker 7: so he just needed to play to get his breath back.
- 22:48Speaker 2: So where do you think the turning point or if
- 22:52Speaker 2: there was one, I mean that that wasn't again another
- 22:54Speaker 2: roller coaster. I think there was never more than a
- 22:57Speaker 2: ten point lead. I don't think for anybody.
- 22:59Speaker 7: Right we did, you're up nineteen seven. But the end
- 23:02Speaker 7: of the first half was a huge moment for us
- 23:04Speaker 7: to get the stops, to get the offense the ball
- 23:08Speaker 7: back in good scoring range. It's a windy day, it's
- 23:10Speaker 7: a cold day. It's not going to be one of
- 23:12Speaker 7: those five hundred yard performances, and so the field position
- 23:15Speaker 7: was critical. Defense got his field position, put three points
- 23:18Speaker 7: on the board to go up thirteen to seven. So
- 23:19Speaker 7: you started to feel like you were going to get
- 23:21Speaker 7: control of the game. And that was a big moment
- 23:23Speaker 7: for us.
- 23:23Speaker 2: To me, when the defense third and one, fourth and one,
- 23:26Speaker 2: you get the football back. I was like, man, I'll
- 23:29Speaker 2: tell you what, you know, a much maligned group. Boy,
- 23:32Speaker 2: they stood up large.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it was huge.
- 23:34Speaker 7: You know, that was an unexpected situation, you know, the
- 23:38Speaker 7: fourth and one on our side of the field, and
- 23:41Speaker 7: so you know, really I just thought they were trying
- 23:43Speaker 7: to draw us off sides, to be quite frank with you,
- 23:44Speaker 7: and I thought, our guys, so when you think that's happening,
- 23:47Speaker 7: you're not firing off the ball.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Like you normally would.
- 23:49Speaker 7: And so for them to be able to get that
- 23:50Speaker 7: stop in a situation where you're not firing off the
- 23:52Speaker 7: ball because you're not expecting to snap it, I thought,
- 23:55Speaker 7: really speaks volumes bet our guys.
- 23:56Speaker 2: And finally, Coach, I mean, I've played in cold weather
- 23:59Speaker 2: games and you know, obviously that fifty nine blow is
- 24:01Speaker 2: like a you know, ridiculous, but I mean nine to
- 24:04Speaker 2: nine below raw temperature.
- 24:05Speaker 7: Older every year that passes, we're.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Stuck at that fifty seven. I wanted to get it
- 24:10Speaker 2: into the sixties. But uh, I know what it's like
- 24:14Speaker 2: when you're and you're still playing very physical football, but
- 24:18Speaker 2: when you're hitting like that and that kind of weather, man,
- 24:21Speaker 2: I take my cap off to the tip my cap
- 24:23Speaker 2: to the guys. Because I know what it feels like.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And man, it was physical out there. I mean, guys
- 24:27Speaker 2: were getting after it.
- 24:28Speaker 7: Listen, I had two pairs of gloves on and I
- 24:30Speaker 7: can't feel my fingers, So I can't imagine doing what
- 24:32Speaker 7: these guys did, you know. And and so again just
- 24:35Speaker 7: the mentality that they had all season long, to be
- 24:39Speaker 7: quite frank, and especially these last five weeks, to know
- 24:42Speaker 7: that we couldn't afford to lose another game, and so
- 24:44Speaker 7: they just buckled up and got it done.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Five straight wins, four straight seasons with winning records. Pretty
- 24:50Speaker 2: good coach.
- 24:51Speaker 7: It's not easy to do in this league. And now
- 24:52Speaker 7: we just cross our fingers and become fans tomorrow.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Absolutely, you guys, are you gonna have the You guys
- 24:59Speaker 2: gonna all get together there somewhere if you thought about that,
- 25:01Speaker 2: or what do you think.
- 25:01Speaker 7: Coaching Stuf's working on the Buffalo Bills. I mean, we
- 25:04Speaker 7: know who our opponent would be, and so we'll be
- 25:07Speaker 7: in the office working on Buffalo. The games will certainly
- 25:09Speaker 7: be on the background, there's no doubt about that. Probably
- 25:12Speaker 7: be a little bit scheering involved, and then we'll just
- 25:14Speaker 7: go from there.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Hopefully the work he and his staff put in preparing
- 25:19Speaker 1: to face Buffalo next week will prove necessary. The Bengals

- 25:40Speaker 1: is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. Now time
- 25:45Speaker 1: for the radio guys recap laft. That was a lot
- 25:49Speaker 1: of fun. The Bengals end their regular season with a
- 25:52Speaker 1: five game winning streak, a winning record, and a prayer
- 25:56Speaker 1: of advancing to Buffalo next week.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Unfortunately, they don't control their own destiny. They're gonna
- 26:01Speaker 2: have to rely on other people and you hate to
- 26:03Speaker 2: have to be in that situation. But they took care
- 26:06Speaker 2: of their share of it. They're part of the business.
- 26:08Speaker 2: They had to get the win, and winning in Pittsburgh
- 26:11Speaker 2: it's not easy. I mean, Mike Tomlin's record in the
- 26:16Speaker 2: last game home game, he was eight to no. I mean,
- 26:18Speaker 2: he hadn't lost a football game. So to get this
- 26:20Speaker 2: one done it was pretty extraordinary. They had a sixteen
- 26:24Speaker 2: minute time position advantage. They basically ran away with the
- 26:26Speaker 2: court of the football game. You know, they had seventy
- 26:29Speaker 2: one snaps to their fifty eight. I mean, it was
- 26:32Speaker 2: it was an impressive performance. I thought it big, a
- 26:36Speaker 2: big deal. Third and one, fourth and one. The Bengals
- 26:39Speaker 2: defense stood up and showed themselves in that and that
- 26:42Speaker 2: little sequence and really over the five game winning streak,
- 26:47Speaker 2: I thought the defense played really well. I mean, there
- 26:49Speaker 2: were so many examples of complimentary football offense, defense and
- 26:54Speaker 2: special teams. When you win five in a row in
- 26:56Speaker 2: this league, you know that's the case. And defensively that
- 26:59Speaker 2: they certainly did up there under the bargain.
- 27:02Speaker 1: That's on the short list of best defensive performances by
- 27:05Speaker 1: an individual that I've seen. Trey Hendrickson three and a
- 27:08Speaker 1: half sacks against this team under these circumstances in this building,
- 27:14Speaker 1: that's a memorable one for me. It is.
- 27:16Speaker 2: And and he was getting chipped, he was getting in fact,
- 27:19Speaker 2: he had a little bit of a rib issue he got.
- 27:21Speaker 2: He got hit pretty good. He said, he gets stroked
- 27:23Speaker 2: in the side pretty good when he get chipped one time.
- 27:26Speaker 2: So they were paying some attention to him. But I'm
- 27:28Speaker 2: telling you, boy, when he turns it on and he
- 27:32Speaker 2: comes around that edge and he he shrinks that edge.
- 27:35Speaker 3: He does.
- 27:36Speaker 2: He compresses and shrinks the edge about as well as
- 27:38Speaker 2: I've seen man when he when he has the least
- 27:41Speaker 2: a little the smallest little bit of advantage, he turns
- 27:45Speaker 2: in into a huge advantage. He's he's really gifted and
- 27:49Speaker 2: talented that way, he really is. He can make himself
- 27:51Speaker 2: small and accelerate and yeah, he just he doesn't really
- 27:55Speaker 2: give you a whole lot of target to punch and
- 27:58Speaker 2: to hit. He does it right.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So Burrow did not extend his touchdown streak. He only
- 28:04Speaker 1: had one tonight, so that ends at eight consecutive games.
- 28:07Speaker 1: He did best for more than two hundred and fifty yards,
- 28:10Speaker 1: but considering the state of his offensive line, the weather conditions,
- 28:14Speaker 1: the defense that he was facing, that was one heck
- 28:17Speaker 1: of a performance. It was.
- 28:19Speaker 2: I thought that the number of snaps, time of possession
- 28:24Speaker 2: showed that they controlled the line of scrimmage. I thought offensively,
- 28:28Speaker 2: Cody ford Man showed the versatility. I mean, he can
- 28:32Speaker 2: play both guards, he can play both tackles. He's done
- 28:34Speaker 2: it well. You know. Amarius Mems did come in when
- 28:39Speaker 2: needed and held down the fort at the right tackle
- 28:42Speaker 2: position as well. I get a lot of respect for,
- 28:46Speaker 2: you know, how those guys stepped up and played honestly
- 28:49Speaker 2: as a football team. They were pretty beaten up, they
- 28:51Speaker 2: really were, and Pittsburgh wasn't. I mean, Pittsburgh had all
- 28:55Speaker 2: hands on deck and the Bengals you know, didn't. And
- 28:58Speaker 2: then during the course of the game things cropped up
- 29:00Speaker 2: that you know, caused some problems. But I mean, these
- 29:04Speaker 2: guys all they were all ready to go. I think
- 29:06Speaker 2: it's a tribute to the to the players. Everybody prepares
- 29:11Speaker 2: like they're a starter. The coaches prepare the players like
- 29:15Speaker 2: their starters, and everybody when they get their opportunity to perform,
- 29:18Speaker 2: go out there and perform at the at the best
- 29:21Speaker 2: level they possibly can. And man, there's a lot of
- 29:24Speaker 2: depth on this football team, and it showed today.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Quite a few unsung heroes in this game. I thought
- 29:29Speaker 1: Shaka Hayward several tackles and a forced fumble. Cade Yorke
- 29:33Speaker 1: bounces back from his doink in overtime last week, boots
- 29:37Speaker 1: four field goals and four tries, and as you pointed out,
- 29:40Speaker 1: with some of the injuries that they had, guys had
- 29:43Speaker 1: to step up. Given their opportunity, and they did.
- 29:45Speaker 2: They really did. And uh, you know, I thought that
- 29:50Speaker 2: it looked to me like the weather conditions bothered the
- 29:52Speaker 2: Steelers a little bit more than it did the Bengals.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I really believe that.
- 29:56Speaker 2: And you know, they they're in a situation where if
- 29:59Speaker 2: they win that football game, you know they're going to Houston.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Now if the Bengals aren't in the playoffs, they're still
- 30:06Speaker 2: they're going to Baltimore.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Unless the Chargers lose, but they probably won't take the
- 30:10Speaker 1: Raiders right right.
- 30:12Speaker 2: So, I mean, they had a lot to play for,
- 30:15Speaker 2: and they played hard. I mean they didn't they didn't
- 30:17Speaker 2: fold their tents. They didn't start pulling players or anything
- 30:20Speaker 2: like that. They played it right to the right to
- 30:22Speaker 2: the end as hard as they possibly could. But you know,
- 30:25Speaker 2: the Bengals realized, the first thing you have to do
- 30:27Speaker 2: is to win this football game. If you don't, it's
- 30:29Speaker 2: all a moot point. Now, at least you can you
- 30:32Speaker 2: can live for at least one more day.
- 30:34Speaker 1: So it won't be satisfying if they don't get the
- 30:37Speaker 1: help they need tomorrow. But they do wind up with
- 30:41Speaker 1: a winning record after an zero to three start, four
- 30:44Speaker 1: and eight after twelve games, they wind up nine and eight,
- 30:47Speaker 1: fourth straight year with a winning record. Again, we won't
- 30:50Speaker 1: savor that, certainly if they don't wind up in the playoffs.
- 30:53Speaker 1: But it is an accomplishment.
- 30:55Speaker 2: It is, And honestly, you know, this is a good
- 30:59Speaker 2: football team. It really is. And I you know, the
- 31:02Speaker 2: rest of the league knows that. That's all you're hearing from.
- 31:04Speaker 2: You know, every media source. Nobody wants to play the
- 31:08Speaker 2: Bengals right now. The Bengals are on a run and
- 31:10Speaker 2: they are I mean, they're playing as well or better
- 31:12Speaker 2: than anybody in the league right now. So Pittsburgh Steelers
- 31:17Speaker 2: are a limpit and gimpet into the playoffs. I mean,
- 31:19Speaker 2: four game losing streak and to lose to their division
- 31:23Speaker 2: rival at home. That's not a great way to stride
- 31:28Speaker 2: into the playoffs. So they're leaking oil. In fact, I'm
- 31:31Speaker 2: not sure there's any oil left in the engine. We'll see,
- 31:34Speaker 2: but you know, the hopefully the Bengals can get in
- 31:36Speaker 2: because they're playing at a pretty high level.
- 31:39Speaker 1: The Steelers not only finished with a four game losing streak,
- 31:43Speaker 1: never led in any of those games.
- 31:45Speaker 2: That's amazing, isn't it. I Mean, this is the first
- 31:49Speaker 2: game that they were within a score to finish the
- 31:52Speaker 2: see the games, I mean they're outscored ninety to fifty
- 31:56Speaker 2: in the games before this one. I mean that's that's
- 31:59Speaker 2: not just getting beaten, that's getting thrashed. So the Bengals
- 32:04Speaker 2: finished it off. It was great anytime you can come
- 32:06Speaker 2: to Pittsburgh and quiet those terrible towels. Boy, that stadium
- 32:11Speaker 2: at times was I mean you could hear a pin
- 32:13Speaker 2: drop out there, you know, and there's nothing better than
- 32:15Speaker 2: that in Pittsburgh to hear the quiet.
- 32:18Speaker 1: When we walked into the locker room, we were among
- 32:20Speaker 1: the first reporters to get in. They were playing Renegade.
- 32:24Speaker 1: The Steelers got a theme song that they played, a
- 32:27Speaker 1: fire up the fans in the second half and a
- 32:29Speaker 1: little bit of a dig as. That was the first
- 32:32Speaker 1: song playing in the locker room.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's apropos as they say. I mean, yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 2: it's this this uh, this football team. It's it's crazy.
- 32:45Speaker 2: I mean again, you can look back the four and
- 32:48Speaker 2: eight part of the season. Any it's just one game
- 32:52Speaker 2: had gone differently. Now and if they had ten wins,
- 32:56Speaker 2: they'd be in. They'd be in just one and honestly,
- 32:59Speaker 2: they could be sitting with twelve or thirteen wins, but
- 33:02Speaker 2: just one to get into ten wins. That's why every
- 33:06Speaker 2: win you get in this league you have to treasure
- 33:09Speaker 2: and relish, because man, it's tough to get him.
- 33:12Speaker 1: For everybody but Kansas City, that is. But get this,
- 33:16Speaker 1: the fifteen to one Chiefs are an eleven point underdog
- 33:20Speaker 1: on Sunday in Denver. That's because the Chiefs arresting Patrick Mahomes,
- 33:24Speaker 1: Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and as many key starters as possible.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Here's hoping Carson Wentz plays the game of his life
- 33:33Speaker 1: for KC. Since the Bengals need Denver to lose, the
- 33:37Speaker 1: Bengals also need the Dolphins to lose, and they aren't
- 33:40Speaker 1: expected to have two Atungo Vai Looa due to a
- 33:43Speaker 1: hip injury. The four and twelve Jets are now a
- 33:46Speaker 1: one point favorite over Miami in that game. Both games
- 33:51Speaker 1: kickoff at four twenty five, and if they go the
- 33:53Speaker 1: Bengals way, the impact of me jumping up and down
- 33:57Speaker 1: in my family room might register on the Richter scale.
- 34:02Speaker 1: That wraps up the Pittsburgh game. Now time for this
- 34:05Speaker 1: week's fun fact segment, where you get to know the
- 34:07Speaker 1: person under the pads, time for some fun facts with
- 34:12Speaker 1: running back Khalel Herbert from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I read
- 34:17Speaker 1: an article about you where you refer to yourself as
- 34:19Speaker 1: chubby and slow as a kid, which is definitely not
- 34:23Speaker 1: the case. Now, were you a late bloomer?
- 34:26Speaker 3: Uh yeah, definitely.
- 34:27Speaker 8: You know, I don't think I got my speed until
- 34:30Speaker 8: tenth eleventh grade. But you know, growing up, I was
- 34:33Speaker 8: always on the O line, D line. I played a
- 34:36Speaker 8: lot of guard in the defensive end, and then you know,
- 34:39Speaker 8: eventually started moving to full back as I you know,
- 34:43Speaker 8: as I got a little bit faster, and then uh
- 34:45Speaker 8: running back when I was in tenth grade.
- 34:47Speaker 1: So did you grow out of it naturally or did
- 34:49Speaker 1: you have to work at it?
- 34:51Speaker 3: I definitely had to work at it. You know.
- 34:53Speaker 8: I was always I was big as a kid, so
- 34:55Speaker 8: I used to shot put in stuff, but I feel
- 34:57Speaker 8: like everybody caught up to me, so I thought I
- 34:58Speaker 8: was gonna be a lot taller than But definitely like
- 35:03Speaker 8: my speed, I always ran track and you know, just
- 35:06Speaker 8: eventually just keep working at it and was able to
- 35:09Speaker 8: finally get some speed and the rest came just working
- 35:12Speaker 8: at it, working at.
- 35:13Speaker 3: It every weekend.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Did you do any other extracurricular activities as a kid
- 35:17Speaker 1: or was it strictly sports.
- 35:18Speaker 8: Yeah, strictly sports, football, track, I mean, yeah, video games.
- 35:23Speaker 1: We're visiting with Khalil Herbert. You played high school football
- 35:26Speaker 1: as a senior at American Heritage School, the alma mater
- 35:30Speaker 1: of former Reds Rookie of the Year Jonathan India, among others.
- 35:33Speaker 1: But here's what I found amazing in twenty twenty one
- 35:36Speaker 1: when you were drafted by the Bears, there were six
- 35:39Speaker 1: players taken from your high school that year. That's unusual
- 35:42Speaker 1: for a college, much less a high school. Is it
- 35:46Speaker 1: amazing to you guys, the guys that are on that team.
- 35:49Speaker 8: It definitely is, But it's it's kind of, I guess,
- 35:52Speaker 8: regular to us down there, especially in South Florida. You know,
- 35:55Speaker 8: we produce a lot of NFL talent, but you know,
- 35:58Speaker 8: it's something that we we strive and pride ourselves on
- 36:01Speaker 8: just being able to produce NFL talent. And like you said, yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 8: we had six in the draft. I think we got
- 36:07Speaker 8: ten current or eleven current guys. So it's something that
- 36:10Speaker 8: we pride ourselves on, going getting to go back to school,
- 36:12Speaker 8: go back there. You see our posters and banners on
- 36:15Speaker 8: the walls of the fields, so it's always cool.
- 36:18Speaker 1: When it came time to pick a college, you chose Kansas.
- 36:21Speaker 1: How'd you wind up in Lawrence? From South Florida?
- 36:24Speaker 8: So I trained with Tony Sans. He played the running
- 36:27Speaker 8: back at Kansas. Kind of connected me with some people
- 36:30Speaker 8: at Kansas. Kansas is my only power five offer, so
- 36:34Speaker 8: it was kind of a no brainer. You know, I
- 36:35Speaker 8: want to play power five ball. Even though they weren't
- 36:37Speaker 8: doing so well, I figured I could go there and
- 36:39Speaker 8: help change the culture.
- 36:40Speaker 3: So that's why I chose there.
- 36:42Speaker 1: We're chatting with Kalol Herbert. In your sophomore year against
- 36:45Speaker 1: West Virginia, you had a game with two hundred and
- 36:48Speaker 1: ninety one yards and thirty six carries. What are your
- 36:51Speaker 1: most vivid memories of that day.
- 36:53Speaker 8: I mean, I just remember afterwards I was tired, but nah,
- 36:57Speaker 8: I just remember I was trying to help my team
- 36:59Speaker 8: win anyway.
- 37:00Speaker 3: It just, you know, just so happened.
- 37:02Speaker 8: I was able to break a couple of runs that
- 37:03Speaker 8: game and just able to ride the hot hand there.
- 37:06Speaker 8: So but it was it was a crazy day just
- 37:09Speaker 8: to be I think I'm third and ku in single
- 37:12Speaker 8: game Russian, So just being able to be up there
- 37:14Speaker 8: with some great some crazy great names.
- 37:16Speaker 3: You know, I was a memory I'll never forget.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Did you know how close you were to three hundred? No?
- 37:21Speaker 8: I wish I I wish I did.
- 37:24Speaker 3: I wish I did.
- 37:25Speaker 8: But again, we were losing the game, so it was
- 37:27Speaker 8: like we just started throwing the ball, trying to get back,
- 37:30Speaker 8: trying to win the game. But I don't even I
- 37:33Speaker 8: don't know if anybody knew, because no one was keeping
- 37:36Speaker 8: track of the time. I didn't find out un till
- 37:37Speaker 8: I got on Twitter. Afterwards.
- 37:39Speaker 1: You decided to transfer to Virginia Tech for your final
- 37:42Speaker 1: college season, and that turned out to be a great move.
- 37:44Speaker 1: You finished fifth in the nation and rushing that year.
- 37:47Speaker 1: What did that season do for you and your NFL dreams?
- 37:50Speaker 8: Just definitely helped me get to where I am right now.
- 37:53Speaker 8: You know, I played with some great guys. I think
- 37:55Speaker 8: my whole whole line is in the NFL right now,
- 37:57Speaker 8: So that kind of shows the kind of talent I
- 37:59Speaker 8: was with, you know, a bunch of guys on the
- 38:01Speaker 8: team or in the league. But just being around those
- 38:04Speaker 8: guys and helping me just that coaching staff allowed me
- 38:06Speaker 8: to just be me and go play, and you know,
- 38:10Speaker 8: they trusted me to take games over and finish games out,
- 38:13Speaker 8: so you know, with that belief in me, just able
- 38:15Speaker 8: to go out there and play my game.
- 38:16Speaker 1: You were drafted by the Bears in twenty twenty one.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Describe your draft weekend and what it was like to
- 38:21Speaker 1: get that call.
- 38:24Speaker 3: I mean, it was it was a long weekend. It
- 38:25Speaker 3: was a long weekend.
- 38:26Speaker 8: I think that was the end of the sixth so
- 38:29Speaker 8: you know, it was a lot of waiting, a lot
- 38:31Speaker 8: of waiting, you know, especially here you could go day two,
- 38:33Speaker 8: day three, like, so you're just waiting around, but you know,
- 38:37Speaker 8: they called.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I got a call from.
- 38:40Speaker 8: I'm trying to remember the city, but it was Illinois,
- 38:43Speaker 8: but uh no, it was. It was a crazy, crazy
- 38:46Speaker 8: wave of emotions, like, you know, whole family was.
- 38:49Speaker 3: There at my at my mom's house.
- 38:51Speaker 8: So it was just cool just to have that moment
- 38:53Speaker 8: with everybody, and you know, especially after how long the
- 38:56Speaker 8: weekend had felt like, just finally end with some happy
- 38:59Speaker 8: tears and you know, figure out where I was going
- 39:01Speaker 8: to play.
- 39:01Speaker 1: How'd you like living and playing in Chicago? Oh? I
- 39:04Speaker 1: loved it.
- 39:04Speaker 3: I loved it.
- 39:05Speaker 8: You know, great area out there. They Bengals came out
- 39:09Speaker 8: there during preseason, so a lot of guys talk to
- 39:12Speaker 8: me about the area. But you know, the city great food.
- 39:16Speaker 8: I love foodie, so I love food. But yeah, I
- 39:19Speaker 8: loved it out there.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Did you have a favorite spot?
- 39:22Speaker 3: I had a couple.
- 39:24Speaker 8: I like steakhouses, so I tried down near every steakhouse
- 39:28Speaker 8: in Chicago, but downtown I'd either go Maple and Ash
- 39:33Speaker 8: or Ocean Prime.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Those are my top two.
- 39:37Speaker 1: You spent three and a half years with the Bears
- 39:39Speaker 1: before getting traded to the Bengals at the trade deadline
- 39:42Speaker 1: this year. What's the hardest part about being traded in
- 39:45Speaker 1: the middle of a season.
- 39:47Speaker 8: I mean, I feel like just two things, like relationships
- 39:50Speaker 8: and then learning plays but just like, you know, not
- 39:55Speaker 8: being able to say goodbye to people, meeting new people,
- 39:57Speaker 8: trying to learn new faces, new names, as well as
- 40:01Speaker 8: trying to learn a playbook, so trying to just cram
- 40:04Speaker 8: as much as you can in a short amount of time.
- 40:08Speaker 3: So I feel like those are two hardist things.
- 40:10Speaker 8: But you know, I feel like everybody here has done
- 40:12Speaker 8: a great job of allowing me to learn and slowly.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Teaching me things and learn this stuff each week.
- 40:17Speaker 1: So all right, some wild card topics. Now for Colol Herbert,
- 40:21Speaker 1: describe your experience as an Uber driver.
- 40:25Speaker 8: So I worked Postmates. I actually I did Uber too.
- 40:30Speaker 8: I did Postmates. I delivered food and I did Uber.
- 40:35Speaker 8: I was an Uber driver just needed extra money, like
- 40:38Speaker 8: you know, college, Like we weren't getting crazy nil bags
- 40:41Speaker 8: like these guys are now. So especially during springball, you know,
- 40:47Speaker 8: spring summer, not much going on.
- 40:49Speaker 3: We just work out in the morning. I would Uber.
- 40:53Speaker 8: And it stopped because I picked up this group of people.
- 40:56Speaker 8: One time person threw open my car and that was
- 40:58Speaker 8: the last time at Uber. And then I just started
- 41:00Speaker 8: delivering food after that.
- 41:01Speaker 1: So I was going to ask you for your worst
- 41:03Speaker 1: Uber horror story. I think I just heard it.
- 41:06Speaker 8: Yeah, so after that, no more picking up people. I
- 41:09Speaker 8: would just I would just deliver food, and uh yeah
- 41:11Speaker 8: that was a lot better.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Did you get good ratings?
- 41:14Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, yeah all the time. You know, I feel
- 41:16Speaker 8: like I got some good tips too. Once people realize,
- 41:19Speaker 8: you know, I was delivering food, they're like, oh yeah.
- 41:22Speaker 1: So all right, who is your all time favorite athlete
- 41:26Speaker 1: in any sport? And why?
- 41:30Speaker 3: I mean lt uh lt. I grew up.
- 41:35Speaker 8: I was born in April twenty first. I worked twenty one.
- 41:38Speaker 8: Growing up, I worked twenty one at VT. It was
- 41:40Speaker 8: retired at Kansas, so I couldn't work. I work twenty
- 41:42Speaker 8: one in high school. Part of reason him, part of
- 41:46Speaker 8: reason because I was born that day. But I was
- 41:49Speaker 8: my favorite player growing up.
- 41:50Speaker 1: So we should probably clarify Ladanian Tomlinson as opposed to
- 41:54Speaker 1: Lawrence Taylor.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Yeah, Ladanian Thomason.
- 41:57Speaker 1: According to Wikipedia, you have Jamaican and virgin Island. Do
- 42:02Speaker 1: you still have family there?
- 42:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 42:04Speaker 8: Yeah, especially in the VIRGINI it's most of my family
- 42:07Speaker 8: from Jamaica is in South Florida now, but growing up
- 42:11Speaker 8: would always go back.
- 42:12Speaker 3: I spend summers over there all summer, so until high school.
- 42:16Speaker 8: Then I started playing football, but still got some family
- 42:19Speaker 8: over there. Trying to go back this offseason, so take
- 42:22Speaker 8: my son out there for the first time.
- 42:25Speaker 1: What unhealthy food do you find hard to resist unhealthy?
- 42:31Speaker 8: I really know if it's unhealthy. I mean, I mean,
- 42:34Speaker 8: I'm like, I'm Jamaican, so I eat ox till.
- 42:38Speaker 3: I don't really feel like that's unhealthy though.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Is it Fatty's?
- 42:41Speaker 3: But it is fatty It's kind of like I mean,
- 42:45Speaker 3: I guess it's like I could be like barbecueish beef.
- 42:50Speaker 3: So I guess it can be.
- 42:51Speaker 8: But ox Hill, I mean anything fried, I work it off.
- 42:58Speaker 8: So you know, every now and then I enjoyed. I
- 43:00Speaker 8: enjoy a nice meal, but as you should.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Yeah, i'd say those What do you like to spend
- 43:04Speaker 1: your money on?
- 43:06Speaker 3: Ah See, I'm a.
- 43:07Speaker 8: Kid at heart, so like like electric go carts, electric bikes,
- 43:15Speaker 8: that kind of stuff. I mean, I just got into
- 43:17Speaker 8: watches again. I got a son now, so he's gonna
- 43:22Speaker 8: get a lot of those electric Like I just got
- 43:24Speaker 8: him elect I got him a trike, so those kind
- 43:28Speaker 8: of things. I like to just spun money on vacations experiences.
- 43:30Speaker 1: So your son's gonna love it. A dad who likes
- 43:33Speaker 1: electronic things to be perfect for him. Final fun fact
- 43:36Speaker 1: for Khalil Herbert, This one's kind of deep. If you
- 43:39Speaker 1: could meet anybody in history, living or deceased, who would
- 43:45Speaker 1: that person be?
- 43:47Speaker 8: Dang, I got two so Jesus and probably like great
- 43:53Speaker 8: great grandparents or something, just to kind of see like
- 43:57Speaker 8: where my family.
- 43:58Speaker 3: I know where they came from, but just like see
- 44:00Speaker 3: how it was like living back then on not this
- 44:02Speaker 3: and stuff.
- 44:03Speaker 1: So yeah, a good answer. Appreciate your time, Thanks so much,
