- 0:00Speaker 1: Where you York comes for common sense? Mark Simone on
- 0:04Speaker 1: sevent ten.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Wr Well, Liz Peak, the brilliant columnist. Course you see
- 0:09Speaker 2: her all over television, and make sure you go to

- 0:19Speaker 2: email you every day with all the latest great news, analysis,
- 0:21Speaker 2: all sorts of interesting stuff. Lizpeak dot com. Liz Peak.
- 0:26Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 0:28Speaker 3: I am terrific. I'm recovering from Thanksgiving? How about you?
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm so glad it's over because I don't want one
- 0:34Speaker 2: more person. What do you do on Thanksgiving? Everybody has
- 0:37Speaker 2: the same stupid story. You know. I went to my sister,
- 0:39Speaker 2: we went to my uncle's, we went to my daughter.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It's all the same. It's like saying, what do you have?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Still the same?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah? What did you have for Thanksgiving dinner?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Uh?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Turkey?
- 0:50Speaker 2: So Hey, New York where we're talking about this. Apparently
- 0:53Speaker 2: you cannot get a hotel room in New York City
- 0:55Speaker 2: in the coming weeks. Real estate agents said they got
- 0:58Speaker 2: tons of clients. So I guess people a't afraid of mom? Donnie.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Should we just figure things will be like de Blasio
- 1:04Speaker 2: we'll get through it.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Well, that's a good question.
- 1:08Speaker 3: People are downplaying the radical team he is assembling. I
- 1:13Speaker 3: mean it is radical, Mark, You've got to say. I
- 1:16Speaker 3: mean he's got someone a newly appointed person to watch
- 1:21Speaker 3: to head up the transportation Department, who I guess is
- 1:25Speaker 3: anti car so that's a useful kind of credential for
- 1:31Speaker 3: figuring out how to improve our traffic. He's got an
- 1:34Speaker 3: education head who is viciously anti Charter, so that's not
- 1:40Speaker 3: very wonderful. I mean, if you just kind of look
- 1:43Speaker 3: at all the various things he's done, other than keeping
- 1:45Speaker 3: Jessica Tish the police commissioner, in place, I'd say pretty
- 1:49Speaker 3: much everything he's done is right out of the most
- 1:52Speaker 3: left wing handbook you could possibly write, and not very encouraging.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Are people basically looking past it? I don't think they
- 2:00Speaker 3: know what to expect, Bark. I mean, we had a
- 2:03Speaker 3: horrible mayor, build a Blasio for eight years, despised by
- 2:08Speaker 3: everybody I know and that you know, who had horrible policies,
- 2:13Speaker 3: wrecked a prosperous safe.
- 2:15Speaker 1: City, and he really did.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I mean he came in after twelve years twelve years
- 2:20Speaker 3: of Mike Bloomberg, who whether you love Mike Bloomberg or not.
- 2:23Speaker 3: He promoted a safe city, prosperous city, attracted new industries
- 2:28Speaker 3: to our town, et cetera, and build a Blasio basically
- 2:32Speaker 3: set out to undermine all of that, which was just
- 2:34Speaker 3: an astonishing decision. So you know, I think they're sort
- 2:39Speaker 3: of thinking, well, if we could survive Deblasio, we could
- 2:41Speaker 3: survive this guy. But you know, I think this guy's worse.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I mean, Deblasio was so kind of all over the place. Yes,
- 2:50Speaker 3: ideologically left wing, but really really lazy and inefficient and incompetent.
- 2:55Speaker 3: This guy, who knows maybe turns out to be more competent,
- 2:58Speaker 3: and that'd be really a disaster for us.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Although everything we've just said is identical to de Blasio.
- 3:04Speaker 2: He had a transportation guy, he hated cars, he had
- 3:07Speaker 2: a yeah it was anti charter, and he brought in
- 3:10Speaker 2: a top police commissionerybody respected Bill Braddon. So most of
- 3:14Speaker 2: these people with Mam Donnie are ex de Blasio administration people.
- 3:17Speaker 1: But that's true, That is true.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I mean, really other than Harvard hiring Deblasio to teach
- 3:25Speaker 3: courses there, which really just makes your head explode when
- 3:28Speaker 3: you realize that he was truly one of the worst
- 3:31Speaker 3: mayor for the city history. It's hard to find anyone
- 3:36Speaker 3: who could really imagine that hiring the people left over
- 3:40Speaker 3: from his dreadful and by the way, somewhat.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Corrupt regime would be people you want to hire. But
- 3:47Speaker 1: there you are. And it's not just Deblasio people.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I mean also, Mam Donnie's hiring this has hired this person,
- 3:53Speaker 3: Lena Khan. Lena Khan is someone who has made a
- 3:57Speaker 3: reputation as being basically anti big business. She was part
- 4:03Speaker 3: of the Biden administration and worked very hard to undermine
- 4:08Speaker 3: any kind of mergers and combinations that would work for business,
- 4:14Speaker 3: arguing that anything big was bad. So you know, that's
- 4:17Speaker 3: not a great sign, right in terms of his interest
- 4:20Speaker 3: in fomenting successful businesses in New York. I don't think
- 4:24Speaker 3: there's much you can sort of hang on to here.
- 4:26Speaker 1: In the way of good news.
- 4:27Speaker 3: But you know, we all we always look forward to
- 4:31Speaker 3: something getting better.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And I hope it does.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I hope, I hope the cold water of reality washes
- 4:37Speaker 3: over this guy and his group and they realize that
- 4:40Speaker 3: they actually have to promote progress here and not just ideology.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, you were talking of this before the big
- 4:48Speaker 2: beautiful bill had the biggest tax cuts ever. But people say, well,
- 4:52Speaker 2: I don't feel it, whereas it well, it doesn't kick
- 4:55Speaker 2: in until January, so once you get past the new year,
- 4:57Speaker 2: these tax cuts and other things kick in. So it
- 5:00Speaker 2: could be a very very good year for the Trump administration,
- 5:02Speaker 2: couldn't it.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I think it will be, certainly Kevin Hasset, who's head
- 5:08Speaker 3: of the Council of Economic Advisors, Scott Besson, the Treasury
- 5:11Speaker 3: Secretary of all but they've both talked about it being
- 5:14Speaker 3: a gangbuster twenty twenty six.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And yes, some of it is.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Because of not only pro business tax deductions and write
- 5:22Speaker 3: offs and so forth that will encourage investment by businesses,
- 5:26Speaker 3: but also for people. I mean, you're getting a bigger
- 5:28Speaker 3: standard deduction, you're getting no taxes on tips at a
- 5:32Speaker 3: certain level. You know, there's a lot of good news
- 5:36Speaker 3: to come out of this tax bill. It is really
- 5:39Speaker 3: amazing to me Mark how bad Republicans are at promoting
- 5:45Speaker 3: policies that have been in place, like the big Beautiful Bill,
- 5:48Speaker 3: when it was last time you ever heard of Republican
- 5:51Speaker 3: in Congress actually extolling the benefits of this. They're in
- 5:55Speaker 3: a defensive crouch because Democrats have been hammering away on
- 5:59Speaker 3: how it's only a handout for the rich. Mind you,
- 6:02Speaker 3: any tax cuts are a handout to people who pay taxes,
- 6:07Speaker 3: and yes, that's probably not the bottom forty percent of
- 6:10Speaker 3: the country who pay no taxes.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So this is a bill that will help.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I also think that twenty twenty six, we're going to
- 6:18Speaker 3: actually see the incoming money from companies and countries that
- 6:25Speaker 3: A vowed to spend a lot of money in new
- 6:26Speaker 3: investments in the United States. This is not a fiction.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Democrats totally dismissed this. But you've had many pharmaceutical companies
- 6:36Speaker 3: saying they're going to build new facilities in America. Many
- 6:39Speaker 3: countries are coming here to build data centers and other operations.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Factories are expanding. If you look on the website, the
- 6:48Speaker 3: White House website has a list of it, and it
- 6:50Speaker 3: is hundreds of billions of dollars. It's really impressive. Now
- 6:54Speaker 3: are we seeing it right now? We are seeing I
- 6:58Speaker 3: think I did a search recently of new factories that
- 7:01Speaker 3: are shovel in the ground.
- 7:03Speaker 1: There are maybe twenty of them underway now. Mark.
- 7:06Speaker 3: That's going to accelerate next year, and you're going to
- 7:08Speaker 3: see the benefits of that in terms of hiring, construction hiring,
- 7:13Speaker 3: eventually factory hiring, and also production here in the United States.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Will it all be as labor intensive as factories in
- 7:22Speaker 3: the past. No, We're going to have more AI, more robotics,
- 7:26Speaker 3: but better here producing value added than overseas. And I
- 7:30Speaker 3: think I think, you know, coming into the midterms, Republicans
- 7:34Speaker 3: are going to need to have a good economic story.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I think there's a very good chance they will have.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, years ago, we decided to outsource all
- 7:42Speaker 2: our manufacturing, and people argued, it's a nightmare as far
- 7:46Speaker 2: as defense. You know, we can't have all our weapons,
- 7:49Speaker 2: our medicines, everything made of It's got all kinds of
- 7:51Speaker 2: But I don't think we ever realized in the end,
- 7:53Speaker 2: as much as it might save money on manufacturing, it
- 7:56Speaker 2: would economically damage the country. So God for Donald Trump,
- 8:00Speaker 2: right bringing it back.
- 8:01Speaker 3: And yeah, and you know, Joe Biden talked about on
- 8:06Speaker 3: shore and bringing stuff back to the United States, but
- 8:09Speaker 3: really didn't do anything to promote that, because what do
- 8:12Speaker 3: you need to do.
- 8:12Speaker 1: You need to lower taxes, what did Biden do? He
- 8:15Speaker 1: raise taxes? You need to reduce regulations, what did Biden do?
- 8:18Speaker 1: He increase regulation. So yes, the Trump story is a
- 8:22Speaker 1: very good story.
- 8:23Speaker 3: A lot of country companies in Europe and Asia are
- 8:27Speaker 3: looking at the United States and saying, hey, here's a
- 8:29Speaker 3: pro business administration. If we can come in there and
- 8:34Speaker 3: take advantage of again copious energy, low taxes, and regulation,
- 8:41Speaker 3: we want to be there. You know, talk to any
- 8:44Speaker 3: business manager in Europe. Operating in Europe is a disaster,
- 8:48Speaker 3: and you know, more and more the head of the
- 8:50Speaker 3: EU is talking about how they have to get in
- 8:54Speaker 3: line with the kinds of policies that we're adopting, because
- 8:57Speaker 3: otherwise they are dead.
- 8:58Speaker 1: They are just basically dead in the water. They're not growing.
- 9:02Speaker 3: The United States is growing, and that is the difference
- 9:05Speaker 3: between poverty and productivity and profitability. And Americans really can
- 9:11Speaker 3: look forward to that. These aren't just talking points. This
- 9:14Speaker 3: is actually how the world works. And if you look,
- 9:17Speaker 3: there's been a fifteen year period up through twenty twenty
- 9:19Speaker 3: three where I think the United States grew eighty seven
- 9:21Speaker 3: percent and Europe grew about ten percent. That is literally true,
- 9:26Speaker 3: and boyd the difference in terms of people's income, people
- 9:29Speaker 3: quality of life is vast, and Americans really kind of
- 9:33Speaker 3: need to take stock of that and count their blessings
- 9:36Speaker 3: and say, yeah, you know, we want to grow. We
- 9:39Speaker 3: want to add jobs for people, we want to add
- 9:43Speaker 3: wealth to people. That's what makes our country special. So
- 9:47Speaker 3: I think, yeah, I think this is all going to work.
- 9:49Speaker 3: It's just right now. You know, you have a lot
- 9:53Speaker 3: of obstructionist judges slowing up the works in terms of
- 9:56Speaker 3: getting rid of regulation, and not all the states are
- 10:01Speaker 3: on board to this. But I think honestly, the long
- 10:03Speaker 3: term picture here is still very very clear and very positive.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Very well said Liz Peak. Brilliant as always. If you
