- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the best of Stu Gotson Company Live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We are wrapping it up here from the American Century
- 0:22Speaker 1: Championships out in Lake Tahoe, same day, every single day.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Haven't seen a cloud in seven days. It's actually incredible, Taylor.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We have a loaded show. We really do. Gary Sheffield,
- 0:35Speaker 1: Matthew Kachuck, AJ Hawk how about that? And Robert Salah
- 0:39Speaker 1: going to join us today and on God Bless Football.
- 0:41Speaker 1: On the podcast, you can listen to what I think
- 0:43Speaker 1: was the best conversation we had all week. It's to
- 0:45Speaker 1: the Joeth Eisman Show with ste Gotts. I mean, that
- 0:48Speaker 1: guy is just unbelievable. But Taylor, you had an Austin
- 0:53Speaker 1: Reeves interaction earlier today that I would like to hear
- 0:57Speaker 1: more about. You just teased it. You're like, Hey, Austin
- 1:00Speaker 1: Reeves interaction and I know what to do with that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That means it's something you want to talk about. So
- 1:03Speaker 1: what happened with you and Austin Reeves here?
- 1:05Speaker 4: So I saw Austin Reeves this morning in the hotel lobby. Yeah,
- 1:09Speaker 4: and as he was walking by, he just assumed I
- 1:12Speaker 4: was somebody. So he said, hey, how are you doing?
- 1:14Speaker 4: Very very nice, courteous guy.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yes, if you're staying in the resort that I'm staying in, yes,
- 1:18Speaker 1: they think you're somebody. It's an unbelievable thing. I've been
- 1:21Speaker 1: coming here for ten years. For nine years, no one
- 1:23Speaker 1: thought anything about me, and now this year everyone thinks
- 1:26Speaker 1: I'm a big time celebrity just by staying in this hotel.
- 1:29Speaker 4: So Austin Reeves asked me, how are you doing? And
- 1:31Speaker 4: I said, if I was doing any better, I'd be you.
- 1:34Speaker 4: And I gave him the double finger guns. He loved it, yeah,
- 1:38Speaker 4: he said. And then when he said he loved it,
- 1:40Speaker 4: I said, Austin, you could have that one for free.
- 1:43Speaker 4: And I mean four years, one hundred and eighty five
- 1:45Speaker 4: million dollar max extension.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Good for Austin Reeves's very kind to you. Say, you
- 1:48Speaker 1: set the table for me to go eat? Is that
- 1:50Speaker 1: what you did?
- 1:51Speaker 4: We're probably not going to get him.
- 1:54Speaker 1: You did that a little late in the proceedings here,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I would have preferred the finger guns.
- 1:58Speaker 4: It's like, God, well, you never you never know when
- 2:00Speaker 4: you're gonna run into Austin Reeves when you're getting coffee
- 2:03Speaker 4: in a hotel lobby.
- 2:04Speaker 1: You could have walked past Austin Reeves at any point
- 2:06Speaker 1: this week, just like Listen, you would have to gun
- 2:09Speaker 1: out of you out of your way to do it,
- 2:10Speaker 1: but you could have done it at any point. He's
- 2:12Speaker 1: been standing next to us, within fifteen feet of us
- 2:15Speaker 1: since Monday.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Listen, you're gonna nitpick this. You're gonna nitpick that. Yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 4: I'm having the time of my life.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I know.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I saw Colin Jos too again. Did you really mean
- 2:26Speaker 4: me and Colin Jos off air? Yeah, have one of
- 2:29Speaker 4: the best relationships here.
- 2:31Speaker 3: That's great.
- 2:31Speaker 4: It doesn't translate to getting him onto the show.
- 2:33Speaker 3: It's parlayed into nothing.
- 2:35Speaker 4: I mean, well, it's parlated into a little friendship with
- 2:37Speaker 4: Colin Jos where I see him this year. We both
- 2:39Speaker 4: love Carolina, right, that's what we bonded over last year.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I knew we could bond over. He didn't remember me,
- 2:45Speaker 4: but I knew I could get that bond back with him.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Be sure, how strong our bond was last year. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 4: I asked him, what do you think about the Mike
- 2:53Speaker 4: Malone hire? Right away his face lit up. He was like,
- 2:56Speaker 4: finally somebody asked me about Carolina. I've been dying to
- 2:58Speaker 4: talk Carolina. Sure, he said he loves the hire. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 4: and then as he was walking away, he said, it
- 3:05Speaker 4: can't be worse than the Bill Belichick higher. It's a
- 3:07Speaker 4: very low bar at Carolina. Ray.
- 3:09Speaker 3: That would have been nice to hear on the airwaves here.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I mean, that's why I just said it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Now, all right, So Colin Jose has joined us this
- 3:15Speaker 1: week tangentially, Colin jos just joined us through my story
- 3:21Speaker 1: Nyler Taylor betraying a trust with his friend Colin Joe's
- 3:25Speaker 1: and airing out his dirty laundry. His thoughts on Bill
- 3:28Speaker 1: Belichick on the air. I'll take it, I'll take it.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I will. Jason Kelsey walking past us, good good luck.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Man discount says us getting Jason on the pop.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Just say one word. It's a microphone, Jason. One more,
- 3:41Speaker 3: just one more, just up, we can say we got you.
- 3:43Speaker 4: It's a pleasure to be onto.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Wow the Great very disappointed last night, and I think
- 3:51Speaker 1: we're the only show that got Jason kelcey on this week,
- 3:53Speaker 1: we got Jason Kelsey on, we got you on the radio.
- 4:01Speaker 1: No one locking the radio except for me. And we
- 4:04Speaker 1: just got Jason Kelsey on there.
- 4:05Speaker 4: That's gonna be tough for Gary Sheffield to top back.
- 4:10Speaker 1: All right, So we had college jost already today, we
- 4:14Speaker 1: had Jason kelce just now you heard him, and now
- 4:18Speaker 1: we're gonna Gary Sheffield.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Matthew could chug finger guns over here.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You were also telling me, and I think this is
- 4:27Speaker 1: a delightful topic. If Tahoe Week was a college quarterback,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you have the exact college quarterback that.
- 4:34Speaker 3: How week would be? Can I guess?
- 4:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 4:37Speaker 3: Brendon Swordsby No, okay.
- 4:40Speaker 4: People are gambling this week?
- 4:42Speaker 3: I mean yeah, yeah, a little bit.
- 4:45Speaker 4: No, no. So I'm thinking all time too. I didn't
- 4:48Speaker 4: want to limit myself to just the college quarterbacks today
- 4:53Speaker 4: because there's so many great college quarterbacks all time. And
- 4:56Speaker 4: this is what I was doing in the hotel room
- 4:58Speaker 4: yesterday while people out at the casino, people are out
- 5:02Speaker 4: at dinners, I'm sitting in my room and I'm saying,
- 5:06Speaker 4: what college quarterback all time?
- 5:08Speaker 3: With Tahoe Week? Because content is king to you?
- 5:10Speaker 4: Yeah, right, correct, right, Yes, I think there's only one answer. Yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 4: it's Brady Quinn. Interesting explain, like, when you think about
- 5:20Speaker 4: Brady Quinn at Notre Dame, right, one of the best
- 5:23Speaker 4: looking quarterbacks of all time, statue poise under pressure, yep.
- 5:28Speaker 4: And then you also need the niceness factor, where it
- 5:32Speaker 4: was like, if you go up to Brady Quinn, Brady
- 5:35Speaker 4: Quinn doesn't think he's better than anybody else. Brady Quinn
- 5:38Speaker 4: would open a friendly conversation. So when you combine the
- 5:41Speaker 4: beauty and the grace and the elegance of Tahoe Week
- 5:45Speaker 4: at the American Century Championship, yes, for me, it's for me.
- 5:47Speaker 4: It's there's one answer, and it's Brady Quinn.
- 5:50Speaker 1: My only problem with this is he went to Notre Dame,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and I find it nearly impossible that Brady.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Quinn doesn't think that he's better than.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You, Like, I have not met someone who's gone to
- 6:01Speaker 1: Notre Dame who doesn't think at some level they are
- 6:05Speaker 1: better than you.
- 6:05Speaker 3: And I'm including Mike Golick Senior in this, okay.
- 6:08Speaker 4: But there's also something about the Notre Dame helmets too,
- 6:10Speaker 4: where they're golden and fight. This feels just like a
- 6:14Speaker 4: Golden Week. The Notre Dame helmets are just timeless. The
- 6:16Speaker 4: uniforms they don't need any flash and pizzaz because the
- 6:20Speaker 4: substance of being Notre Dame speaks for itself.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Right and Lake Tahoe speaks for itself. Is what this
- 6:25Speaker 1: tournament speaks for itself. You and I have turned to
- 6:28Speaker 1: each other many different times, on many different occasions that
- 6:31Speaker 1: said to each other, this is a special event.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Correct Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson
- 6:38Speaker 2: Company Live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific
- 6:42Speaker 2: on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I've been coming to the American Century Championships for ten
- 6:50Speaker 1: years now, and I got to tell you the coolest
- 6:53Speaker 1: moment for me over those ten years was last night
- 6:56Speaker 1: when they're introducing Matthew Kachuck's brother, Matthew with us right now, Brady.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Because he's a newcomer.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And then the whole room, a room of world class athletes,
- 7:05Speaker 1: give you guys a standing ovation for bringing home the gold.
- 7:08Speaker 3: How did that feel to.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You, Matthew cou Chuck, because I got goosebumps, man.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Yeah, it was.
- 7:12Speaker 6: It was actually like one of the coolest moments by
- 7:15Speaker 6: the time, it was Yeah, for people like that obviously
- 7:18Speaker 6: aren't there. They introduced all the new guys in whatever order.
- 7:21Speaker 6: Brady was kind of one of the guys at the end.
- 7:24Speaker 6: And at the end.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Of Brady's like you know little bio that they.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Gave about him, they mentioned, you know, and and we've
- 7:31Speaker 6: got a gold medal group on Friday with Matthew, Bradykachuck
- 7:35Speaker 6: and matt Bouldie, so cool Olympic gold medalists for hockey,
- 7:40Speaker 6: and the whole place gave a standing up. It was
- 7:42Speaker 6: just it was I mean with all the guys in
- 7:44Speaker 6: there too, you just look around, it's like, yeah, you
- 7:46Speaker 6: know who's who basically, and for them to do that
- 7:50Speaker 6: was was so amazing. And yeah, it gives you goosebumps
- 7:54Speaker 6: for sure.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yeah for real, man, Matthew has a bitter Rangers fan.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Be honest, should the podcast with Brady count tampering because
- 8:00Speaker 4: it feels like that gave you an unfair fan.
- 8:02Speaker 3: He's his brother, man, that's the advantage.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I don't know what, I don't even know getting him
- 8:07Speaker 1: down to Florida. I mean, you get him to be
- 8:09Speaker 1: a part of the Panthers. He feels like you had
- 8:10Speaker 1: an unfair advantage being his brother. Don't answer it. I
- 8:14Speaker 1: don't even understand the question. Don't answer it. It's something
- 8:18Speaker 1: you think.
- 8:18Speaker 6: He came to Florida because the podcast that would be
- 8:21Speaker 6: the worst question ever got no.
- 8:23Speaker 3: No, no, it's the second worst question he's asked this week.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Just so you know, let's talk about the podcast though, Wingman,
- 8:28Speaker 1: because I love it. You're doing it with your brother.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I was talking to Brady before and he said, yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 1: what we try to do is just keep it like
- 8:34Speaker 1: a FaceTime between me and Matthew, because sometimes you can
- 8:37Speaker 1: lose the chemistry even with family members when you turn
- 8:39Speaker 1: on a microphone. I love the podcast. Whose idea was it?
- 8:43Speaker 1: How did you guys come up with the name wing Ben?
- 8:45Speaker 6: So? I actually don't know how like it officially got
- 8:49Speaker 6: going or how it happened, but I do know we
- 8:53Speaker 6: were talking about it for a while kind of ever since,
- 8:55Speaker 6: like even before four Nations doing it right, and because
- 8:58Speaker 6: we FaceTime, you know how over many times a week
- 9:01Speaker 6: every other days, talk every day, and basically people started
- 9:05Speaker 6: like pitching us and saying like, basically, you're facetiming him
- 9:09Speaker 6: for an hour and get paid.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I don't know, you might as well, get paid for
- 9:13Speaker 3: this conversation.
- 9:14Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 9:14Speaker 6: I don't even know how. I don't know how, but
- 9:16Speaker 6: I do. I told the story the other day. The
- 9:19Speaker 6: first person that said I should do it, even though
- 9:21Speaker 6: it was kind of the ball was kind of rolling already,
- 9:24Speaker 6: like the big like the guy who wanted us to
- 9:26Speaker 6: do it the most was Bill Zito.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Really GM in Florida.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Yeah, our GM in Florida.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess.
- 9:32Speaker 5: And we were just.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Talking to him the other day and he's like, yeah, like,
- 9:35Speaker 6: don't forget, like who who.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Told you that that big idea to do it?
- 9:38Speaker 6: So it's it's pretty funny, but we love it. People
- 9:44Speaker 6: love hearing like it's it's different because it's current athletes
- 9:48Speaker 6: and nobody's done it in hockey.
- 9:49Speaker 5: So I think hockey fans enjoy.
- 9:51Speaker 6: Like just like the stuff that's happened currently and like
- 9:55Speaker 6: this behind the scenes stuff with us.
- 9:56Speaker 5: And I mean, obviously we're lucky.
- 9:58Speaker 6: We've had some incredible omens that we can share over
- 10:02Speaker 6: the last I mean six months, just as the Olympics.
- 10:05Speaker 6: I mean that's probably the biggest thing. Obviously, people like
- 10:08Speaker 6: to hear a lot about winning and stories about winning,
- 10:11Speaker 6: but people are just obsessed with the Olympics, the Olympic stories,
- 10:15Speaker 6: the Olympic guests that are on. So it's been it's
- 10:18Speaker 6: been a huge success so far, and we've we've actually.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Really enjoyed it.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And they love your relationship. I think that's the thing
- 10:23Speaker 1: that shops the most for me. It's authentic. Yeah, just
- 10:25Speaker 1: hearing you and your brother just talking shop.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:27Speaker 6: Well, I think a lot of people can relate to it,
- 10:29Speaker 6: like whether you're you know, a.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Brother and a sister, two sisters, two brothers, and friends,
- 10:35Speaker 5: two best friends.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Just the camaraderie and the banter and like the chirps
- 10:41Speaker 6: and it just I think a lot of people can
- 10:43Speaker 6: relate to it, which is why they like it.
- 10:44Speaker 1: So the last three years, the last well, I guess yeah,
- 10:47Speaker 1: three years, two Stanley Cups and a gold medal, And
- 10:50Speaker 1: I'm wondering how the gold medal felt differently to you
- 10:53Speaker 1: than winning the Stanley Cups.
- 10:55Speaker 6: I would say it was well, way less taxing on
- 10:58Speaker 6: the body, right, But I only come back. I had
- 11:01Speaker 6: surgery in August last year, and I came back like
- 11:04Speaker 6: eight maybe ten games before the Olympics, and I probably
- 11:08Speaker 6: should have stayed out another week or so or really
- 11:11Speaker 6: and so I came back like right before and my
- 11:14Speaker 6: game was just kind of going like this. But by
- 11:17Speaker 6: the end of the Olympics, when I came back, I
- 11:18Speaker 6: felt amazing, like healthwise felt amazing. So I guess that
- 11:21Speaker 6: was the biggest difference, is I wasn't you know playing
- 11:25Speaker 6: when you're in playoff hockey, it's every game you're like
- 11:27Speaker 6: playing through something little like it's the most yea fears competitive,
- 11:31Speaker 6: physical and after you win, I mean, it's so rewarding
- 11:35Speaker 6: lifting the cup because of just how many hours you've
- 11:38Speaker 6: put in with the same group and and just the
- 11:41Speaker 6: total that your body has. But I will say that
- 11:43Speaker 6: the impact of the Olympics was was was greater because
- 11:47Speaker 6: not only did you know the Florida Panthers fans watched.
- 11:50Speaker 3: It, but the whole country.
- 11:52Speaker 5: The people in Florida that didn't really watch hockey before.
- 11:55Speaker 3: They watched it.
- 11:56Speaker 6: And then I mean you could say people in Tampa
- 11:58Speaker 6: who don't like the Panthers is they all were supporting.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Us like it. It was just so.
- 12:04Speaker 6: Nationwide and it's so cool just talking to people from
- 12:08Speaker 6: each My favorite thing to ask people is like it's
- 12:10Speaker 6: one of those very few moments in life where you
- 12:12Speaker 6: know where you were when, So I love asking people
- 12:15Speaker 6: like where were you and like the amount I went.
- 12:17Speaker 6: I woke up at five am to get to my
- 12:19Speaker 6: neighborhood bar to watch it, or I had a watch
- 12:22Speaker 6: party at my I had a bunch of families going
- 12:25Speaker 6: for to my house at six am to watch. It's
- 12:27Speaker 6: unreal and it's unbelievable because when we were over there,
- 12:30Speaker 6: they did such a good job of keeping us like
- 12:34Speaker 6: really focused and like in a bubble.
- 12:36Speaker 5: And we knew that it was the.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Olympics, big deal, but we had no idea the magnet.
- 12:41Speaker 6: I had no idea what we were walking into when
- 12:43Speaker 6: we got back to the US, and it was in Miami,
- 12:46Speaker 6: where we've had a bunch of celebrations before, so I
- 12:48Speaker 6: knew kind of what was it was going to be,
- 12:51Speaker 6: but it was times.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Ten really exceeded it. It was just wild. I'll tell
- 12:56Speaker 3: you one of those stories.
- 12:57Speaker 1: So I can't remember the last time my dad, my brother,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and myself got together to watch a sporting event. My
- 13:03Speaker 1: brother flew down to South Florida from New York, Wow,
- 13:07Speaker 1: to my dad's house, and me and my dad and
- 13:09Speaker 1: my brother watched that gold medal game together. Yeah, and
- 13:11Speaker 1: it was and it made it like made my dad's
- 13:13Speaker 1: you know, just it's he still gets tears talking about that.
- 13:17Speaker 5: You just said it there.
- 13:18Speaker 6: It's like amazing, like how emotional people were in like
- 13:21Speaker 6: forty six years.
- 13:22Speaker 5: It's crazy.
- 13:23Speaker 6: And then just beating Canada and like slaying the dragon
- 13:26Speaker 6: there a little bit. It's just, you know, it wouldn't
- 13:28Speaker 6: have been the same if we didn't beat Canada in
- 13:30Speaker 6: the finals. I think, yes, now if we Finland beats Canada,
- 13:33Speaker 6: I mean, I'm sure people are still jacked up if
- 13:34Speaker 6: we would have won.
- 13:35Speaker 5: But it wasn't the same as being Canada.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Did you notice that when you got home were road
- 13:39Speaker 1: fans treating you guys differently?
- 13:41Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 13:41Speaker 3: Crazy, right, for sure.
- 13:42Speaker 4: I remember my first.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Road trip was New York. First game back was at home,
- 13:47Speaker 6: maybe first two were at home. Then went to New
- 13:49Speaker 6: York and after the game I brought the medal, and
- 13:53Speaker 6: after the game in New Jersey and in the Island,
- 13:57Speaker 6: just tons of people waiting and.
- 13:59Speaker 5: They're all wearing Islanders jerseys and so cool.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Man.
- 14:01Speaker 5: But we were all one team for two and a
- 14:03Speaker 5: half weeks, which is really cool.
- 14:04Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 14:05Speaker 4: What do you remember most about going into that ot
- 14:07Speaker 4: because I think the suddenness of like how quickly it
- 14:10Speaker 4: ended made it even better.
- 14:12Speaker 6: I just remember, I mean the guys that were first
- 14:17Speaker 6: of all, the guys that weren't even on the ice
- 14:19Speaker 6: in overtime. I mean, it's the two Maybe it was
- 14:21Speaker 6: the best game of all time, like with the players
- 14:23Speaker 6: on the team, like it was some of the most
- 14:26Speaker 6: insane talent. I mean, probably probably the best game. And
- 14:30Speaker 6: like player pool, you're gonna you're gonna find it for
- 14:32Speaker 6: one game.
- 14:32Speaker 3: So game was moving so fast, It's just it was insane.
- 14:35Speaker 5: You couldn't even think.
- 14:36Speaker 6: I mean, you're just you're you're flying around, You're hitting everything.
- 14:40Speaker 6: There's no room to make any play. That's what people
- 14:42Speaker 6: talk about, Like with all the skill on these teams. Yes,
- 14:44Speaker 6: these there's there's one hundred point guys in every team
- 14:46Speaker 6: that you got Big David, you know, Austin Matthew's got
- 14:49Speaker 6: two un row Boys, great defense, Quinn Hughes, Cal mccarr,
- 14:52Speaker 6: wor Enski, these guys. It's a two to one game
- 14:56Speaker 6: and then it's a two U three to two overtime
- 14:58Speaker 6: game in the Four Nations. It's a two one game
- 15:00Speaker 6: in Montreal and the Four Nations, like it's not about
- 15:03Speaker 6: who's gonna go out there and get the goal. It's
- 15:04Speaker 6: like almost like who's gonna give up a chance? Right
- 15:07Speaker 6: the other way. So to answer your question though, going
- 15:10Speaker 6: into overtime, I was just like, holy cow, like this
- 15:12Speaker 6: is He's gonna be the greatest overtime display by both
- 15:17Speaker 6: teams because of the best overtime players in the world. Yes,
- 15:19Speaker 6: and just I couldn't. I have no words to describe
- 15:24Speaker 6: how I felt when Jack scored.
- 15:28Speaker 3: But just to play that you getting emotional now, just
- 15:30Speaker 3: to play.
- 15:30Speaker 6: That Wrensky made before I in the saves that hell
- 15:33Speaker 6: he made all game, I mean bolds his goal in
- 15:36Speaker 6: the first We had so many great efforts. And I
- 15:38Speaker 6: will say one thing that's not talked about enough because
- 15:40Speaker 6: it was kind of in the middle of the game,
- 15:41Speaker 6: but we had to kill off a minute and a
- 15:43Speaker 6: half five on three.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I remember against that ye power against that, right they were.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Olympics. And just I mean.
- 15:50Speaker 3: David's flying around, you know, like you got.
- 15:52Speaker 6: To give credits, you know, the slave ins, the JT.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Miller's trocheck Sanderson, those guys that don't get enough credit.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Where's the gold medal? Right?
- 15:59Speaker 4: Now?
- 16:00Speaker 1: I can't say I will tell you. An unnamed person
- 16:05Speaker 1: here said he has spent more time with the gold
- 16:07Speaker 1: with seeing your gold medal than seeing you.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Actually this week lose Marty Fish.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, we had some fun on Tuesday with him.
- 16:18Speaker 5: We got some good pictures.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Uh.
- 16:20Speaker 1: This is such a great event, the American Century Championship.
- 16:22Speaker 1: You guys have such a great bond, the standing ovation
- 16:25Speaker 1: you got last night, the friendship. I don't know if
- 16:26Speaker 1: you were friends with Marty beforehand, but you're certainly good
- 16:28Speaker 1: friends now. And I see you here in your second
- 16:32Speaker 1: year and you're introducing Brady to it because he's in
- 16:34Speaker 1: his first year here. What did you learn about last
- 16:37Speaker 1: year that helped you prepare for this week?
- 16:39Speaker 3: This year?
- 16:39Speaker 5: This is my third year, your third year.
- 16:41Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Yeah, my bad.
- 16:42Speaker 5: I think I think each year it's just like you
- 16:44Speaker 5: know more people.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Yes, you seem more comfortable and relaxed. Y.
- 16:48Speaker 6: You know a lot of the American Century team, you
- 16:51Speaker 6: know a lot more of the NBC team, And it's
- 16:52Speaker 6: just like it's just a week of fun, non stop.
- 16:57Speaker 6: Also and it doesn't like it literally doesn't stop. Like
- 17:00Speaker 6: got something here in a little bit and then me
- 17:02Speaker 6: and my caddie.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Luke, so we have.
- 17:04Speaker 6: We have no the no wives or no girlfriends on
- 17:07Speaker 6: the fiances on the trip this week.
- 17:09Speaker 5: It's just just the boys.
- 17:10Speaker 4: So we got to learn, well, yes, it's another batcher part.
- 17:13Speaker 6: It was literally like right after this and a little bit,
- 17:16Speaker 6: we'll either go to the pool, go to the lake
- 17:18Speaker 6: for a bit, so good and then there'll be a
- 17:20Speaker 6: few guys there and just have a few drinks.
- 17:23Speaker 5: It just doesn't stop. It's never ending. I sleep like four.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Hours a night and you wake up and you have
- 17:28Speaker 6: more energy I could ever imagine. It's just it's an
- 17:30Speaker 6: absolute blast. I mean the weather isn't too bad either.
- 17:34Speaker 3: It's the same. It's the same every day.
- 17:35Speaker 5: Were the nicest place in the country.
- 17:37Speaker 3: I think it is.
- 17:37Speaker 6: And it's just I mean it's a little bit harder
- 17:39Speaker 6: to get to for people out of east, but if
- 17:41Speaker 6: they haven't been here.
- 17:41Speaker 5: They have to.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It's kind of like South Florida in the winters. It
- 17:43Speaker 1: is in terms of the weather where you know it's
- 17:45Speaker 1: seventy two degree. He's not a cloud in the sky.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Adj Hawk said. He goes into the lake every morning
- 17:49Speaker 1: at five fifteen. Have you done that with him?
- 17:51Speaker 5: I have not been a five fifteen. I try I
- 17:53Speaker 5: try to get home by five fifteen.
- 17:56Speaker 6: No, I'm normally. I'm normally a little bit after that
- 17:59Speaker 6: if I if I have time to get a quick dunk,
- 18:02Speaker 6: and then I'm there for however long in the afternoon,
- 18:04Speaker 6: and it's the best way to wake yourself up.
- 18:07Speaker 1: All right, we'll get you out of here on this note.
- 18:08Speaker 1: We appreciate you doing this. Florida Panther fans. While they're
- 18:11Speaker 1: excited that you won the gold medal, and they were
- 18:13Speaker 1: all over that moment as well, they want to hear
- 18:14Speaker 1: that we're going to win.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Another Cup, so they want a third Cup? You want to?
- 18:18Speaker 1: They want a third I don't want you to make
- 18:20Speaker 1: any sort of guarantees, but they do want to get
- 18:23Speaker 1: back to getting to the playoffs.
- 18:25Speaker 3: At winning Stanley Cups.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Do you guys feel like you have a chance of
- 18:27Speaker 1: getting back to that level this year?
- 18:29Speaker 5: Well, I hope they want it. We want to. Yes,
- 18:31Speaker 5: this was a weird year.
- 18:32Speaker 3: If they want to hear from you, Matt like you
- 18:34Speaker 3: make it go.
- 18:34Speaker 5: You know, we're as confident of a team as ever.
- 18:37Speaker 6: We've done our core still with us and picked up
- 18:42Speaker 6: a couple of pretty good pieces.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so, Yeah, we will.
- 18:46Speaker 6: I do think that in a season or with a team,
- 18:50Speaker 6: you know, especially after winning, even after winning, I should say,
- 18:54Speaker 6: you need kind of a fresh sort of blood that
- 18:57Speaker 6: can raise that level again.
- 18:58Speaker 5: And I think Brady and and you guys are definitely
- 19:00Speaker 5: gonna do that.
- 19:01Speaker 3: First, were you sad to see Bob gone very soon?
- 19:03Speaker 6: And whenever you lose a close buddy, you know who's
- 19:07Speaker 6: who's been so good to me, such an amazing pro,
- 19:10Speaker 6: such an amazing teammate. But with that being said, I
- 19:13Speaker 6: am so excited to get Marky back. I played with
- 19:16Speaker 6: him encounter. He's an unbelievable goalie and unreal guy.
- 19:20Speaker 5: Just part of the business. But I know Toronto definitely
- 19:23Speaker 5: got a good one.
- 19:23Speaker 6: Bob.
- 19:24Speaker 3: All right, man, enjoy the rest of your week out here.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Good luckily. How's the game by the way, good?
- 19:28Speaker 5: Better this year. I got to play a little bit before.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Should we put a little flyer on?
- 19:31Speaker 5: Probably don't waste your.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Check out his podcast? Wing them with you?
- 19:37Speaker 1: Brother, Bill Zito deserves all the credit for if.
- 19:41Speaker 4: You trying to get a.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Piece of your podcast.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Is that what he's doing?
- 19:43Speaker 1: No, he deserves all right, it's a great pod man.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Continue success and we appreciate you doing this.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Man, you're great. You're a great guy.
- 19:49Speaker 5: Thank you, of course, thank you.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Guys.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 19:55Speaker 2: Live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Very exciting.
- 20:01Speaker 1: AJ Hawk is with US former NFL player currently with
- 20:04Speaker 1: the Pat McAfee Show. What do you know better for
- 20:06Speaker 1: by the way mcaffee show or former NFL player?
- 20:09Speaker 7: Oh, definitely the show right pass the man. So yeah,
- 20:13Speaker 7: it's been it's been awesome for sure. Had you hit
- 20:16Speaker 7: him today? Man, pretty good? I mean today it didn't
- 20:18Speaker 7: really count. It's the pro am, so you're not gonna
- 20:21Speaker 7: swing pretty pretty smooth. But no, it's it's awesome out here.
- 20:24Speaker 7: I'm not a pro golfer, so I don't get too
- 20:25Speaker 7: frustrated if I don't hit it. Well, I had a
- 20:28Speaker 7: great group.
- 20:28Speaker 4: It was. It was awesome, AJ when you guys started
- 20:30Speaker 4: the Pat McAfee show. I know you guys did shows
- 20:33Speaker 4: at the start of COVID separate from the McAfee show,
- 20:36Speaker 4: But did you ever think it could get to where
- 20:38Speaker 4: it is debt now? No, I mean obviously not.
- 20:40Speaker 7: And and Pat had it going a while before I
- 20:43Speaker 7: joined him, but I started joining pretty consistently once COVID hit.
- 20:47Speaker 7: But no, I mean I've had no clue when we're
- 20:50Speaker 7: starting at what it would be now and just what
- 20:52Speaker 7: the Yeah, it's crazy, so many awesome things that that
- 20:58Speaker 7: we get to do and go watch these college football
- 21:00Speaker 7: playoff on the sidelines and do.
- 21:01Speaker 4: These watch alongs.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Crazy right, Yeah, it's so awesome to watch the game
- 21:05Speaker 1: from the end zone like it's It makes me even
- 21:08Speaker 1: a bigger fan of college football getting to do that
- 21:10Speaker 1: kind of stuff.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I'm so proud of you guys.
- 21:11Speaker 1: It's so proud of Pat because you know, Pat really
- 21:14Speaker 1: gambled on himself and there's a lot of you know,
- 21:15Speaker 1: there's a great lesson to be learned there.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Because he retired early.
- 21:19Speaker 1: A lot of people criticized him he left money on
- 21:21Speaker 1: the table, but look.
- 21:23Speaker 3: What it's turned into. Man, he's the biggest thing going
- 21:25Speaker 3: right now.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Yeah, he's awesome. He could do he do everything for him. Yes,
- 21:30Speaker 4: it's the best.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I want to talk to you about Brady Quinn because
- 21:33Speaker 1: he's you know, he does the morning show on Hour
- 21:35Speaker 1: Network and he's been on with us a bunch of
- 21:37Speaker 1: times and he was telling us one time that you
- 21:40Speaker 1: are there was no better card giver than AJ Hawk,
- 21:45Speaker 1: and I was floored by that.
- 21:47Speaker 3: I was shocked by that. I didn't realize that.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I guess maybe I'm applying my own sensibilities, and I
- 21:53Speaker 1: apologize in advance, but I didn't have you as a
- 21:55Speaker 1: guy who's sitting down giving a lot of thought to
- 21:57Speaker 1: what it is he's going to.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Write on a card. You know, depends the card going to.
- 22:02Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:03Speaker 7: I've always been yeah, I don't know what Brady I
- 22:05Speaker 7: know has said that a few times yea, and yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 7: I don't know exactly what he's talking about. Sometimes I'll write,
- 22:11Speaker 7: you know, you get a birthday card from my mother
- 22:13Speaker 7: in law or whoever, my mom or my dad or
- 22:16Speaker 7: my brothers. Yes, like you'll, I'll take a little bit
- 22:18Speaker 7: of time. I'm a creative human. I'm terrible with numbers,
- 22:20Speaker 7: can't do math, but I can. I feel like I'm
- 22:23Speaker 7: I'm creative and have an imagination. And I always try
- 22:25Speaker 7: to tell my kids, you need to have an imagination,
- 22:27Speaker 7: and I think I do so sometimes I try to
- 22:29Speaker 7: express that when I'm when I'm writing cards to people
- 22:31Speaker 7: in my family.
- 22:32Speaker 4: If we had to flip the question now on Brady,
- 22:34Speaker 4: what's something that people don't know about Brady?
- 22:36Speaker 3: Yes, this is your chance, aj, let's go.
- 22:39Speaker 4: I mean, great question.
- 22:40Speaker 7: Every time I see him in which I see him
- 22:41Speaker 7: all the time, and he lives very like every time,
- 22:43Speaker 7: like you're such a giant human, just a big handsome dude,
- 22:47Speaker 7: and he's but he's all he's like a he's just
- 22:50Speaker 7: he's not a real character because he's that he's such
- 22:52Speaker 7: a big, handsome, awesome due. But he's actually like the
- 22:55Speaker 7: best dude and super nice and it cares abou everybody,
- 22:57Speaker 7: like the biggest family dude of all times.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yes, it's all something happening. He was in Florida, now
- 23:01Speaker 1: he's back in Ohio. It's great to have a brother
- 23:03Speaker 1: in law that you get along with, right.
- 23:06Speaker 7: The other way, right, My other brother in law, Jack Johnson,
- 23:08Speaker 7: is the man as well, played hockey in the NHL
- 23:10Speaker 7: over twenty years and the nicest dude too. See, I'm
- 23:12Speaker 7: very lucky. Yes, my brothers and my caddie out here.
- 23:15Speaker 7: He has been for like sex really. Yeah, that's nice.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Yeah. What do you remember most about your last game
- 23:19Speaker 4: at Ohio State against Brady Quinn In the lead up
- 23:22Speaker 4: to that game, Oh.
- 23:24Speaker 7: Man, Yeah, we were playing in the Fiesta Bawl against
- 23:26Speaker 7: Notre Dame. Yeah, my senior year, there was a bunch
- 23:29Speaker 7: of like weird media stuff. Early on they found out
- 23:33Speaker 7: that I was going out with his sister and we
- 23:35Speaker 7: weren't engaged actually at the time, but like, oh, it's
- 23:37Speaker 7: I don't know how it got public. But then there's
- 23:40Speaker 7: like a little that stupid old school yeah, I guess
- 23:42Speaker 7: it's probably before the internet, right, stuff like that. And
- 23:45Speaker 7: then we played and luckily we won and I got
- 23:47Speaker 7: I sacked Brady a few times in.
- 23:48Speaker 4: That kid a great team though they were awesome.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Did you mind him of it all the time. You
- 23:53Speaker 3: don't have to right now.
- 23:54Speaker 4: Don't look at that dude like he was a giant.
- 23:57Speaker 4: He would have ran me over.
- 24:00Speaker 7: Ultiple times, like you would have absolutely would have killed
- 24:02Speaker 7: And I had to protect myself.
- 24:03Speaker 1: If I told you, even back then that one day
- 24:05Speaker 1: twenty twenty six that Indiana would dominate college football, you
- 24:09Speaker 1: would have told me what obviously, I would have left.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Had a hard time believe you. But I mean, anything
- 24:15Speaker 1: can happen now if you like.
- 24:16Speaker 7: And I was at I was down there watching Indiana
- 24:19Speaker 7: in person, Indiana, and like I said, in these watchlongs,
- 24:21Speaker 7: we do and I was blown away with how they
- 24:24Speaker 7: played like they were so disciplined. Like I'm I'm like
- 24:27Speaker 7: a football nerd when I see defense playing well with
- 24:29Speaker 7: the proper the proper leverage all the time, and this
- 24:31Speaker 7: day he's spilling it to his outside backer and you're
- 24:33Speaker 7: holding your gap. All this stuff in Indiana like they
- 24:35Speaker 7: didn't have. They played so hard and they were so disciplined.
- 24:39Speaker 7: It was like a thing of beauty watching them play.
- 24:40Speaker 1: The American Century Championship is such a great event. You're
- 24:43Speaker 1: out here every single year, Like, what do you love
- 24:45Speaker 1: so much about this event?
- 24:46Speaker 4: Man?
- 24:46Speaker 7: I mean, just look around like it's unbelieved. There's nothing
- 24:48Speaker 7: nowhere in the world that I've been that looks like this.
- 24:51Speaker 4: The lake's legit. It's great getting in the lake every
- 24:53Speaker 4: morning to jump in. It's freezing.
- 24:54Speaker 3: You go in every morning.
- 24:55Speaker 7: Yeah, it's like yeah, wow, you know everyone's in the cold, plunging.
- 24:59Speaker 4: You got to do your whole morning and routine.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Garlagi, Are you tell me late tomorrow morning you're gonna
- 25:03Speaker 3: be there?
- 25:03Speaker 4: Yeah, we were there at like five fifteen that I
- 25:05Speaker 4: go in with you tomorrow. Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 7: It's a little bit of a mental text. When you
- 25:08Speaker 7: walk on it's forty eight degrees outside with forty nine.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Well, what's what's the key? Do you like tiptoe win
- 25:14Speaker 1: or you just jump right in? You gotta jump right in, right,
- 25:16Speaker 1: I mean I think you know the end. There's no tiptoe.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Why does im Pact come out here anymore? Like he
- 25:23Speaker 1: was out here a few years ago. I haven't seen him, say,
- 25:25Speaker 1: I hope he comes back. I don't know him, and
- 25:26Speaker 1: he's got he just too busy kid. He's got two
- 25:28Speaker 1: young kids and just had another. So it's uh, obviously
- 25:31Speaker 1: hopefully comes back next year. It was awesome. I got
- 25:33Speaker 1: to play with him three days two years in a row.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah. What's the thing you missed the most about football?
- 25:37Speaker 3: Is there anything? Yeah?
- 25:38Speaker 7: Man, football is awesome. I miss all everything about football.
- 25:41Speaker 7: But I'm realistic and it's not like a you know,
- 25:45Speaker 7: I knew when I stopped playing, like, yeah, I can't
- 25:46Speaker 7: play anymore. But man, I I get so excited watching it,
- 25:49Speaker 7: like when I watched, like I say, in person, and
- 25:52Speaker 7: you know, I watch my kids play as well, and
- 25:53Speaker 7: it's just it's fun.
- 25:55Speaker 3: It's physical. Yeah, it's great.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Hey, j the Big ten has won the last three
- 25:59Speaker 4: National chanceampionships as a Big ten guy, yourself? Is it
- 26:03Speaker 4: big ten versus the world right now, because there's always
- 26:05Speaker 4: the talk with the SEC. But it feels like the
- 26:07Speaker 4: Big ten is kind.
- 26:08Speaker 7: Of I mean, Big ten is awesome, man, the SEC
- 26:11Speaker 7: is awesome. I have a hard time like creating an
- 26:14Speaker 7: argument with that. I think I think they're they're the
- 26:16Speaker 7: tip of the spear, both of them, and I think.
- 26:19Speaker 4: It's it's awesome and it's fun to watch.
- 26:21Speaker 7: But I don't have a I can't sit here and
- 26:23Speaker 7: from my high horse talking about I think the Big
- 26:26Speaker 7: ten is amazing.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I think the SEC.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I have so many buddies that played in the SEC,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and they're some of the biggest and best athletes and
- 26:31Speaker 1: best players of all time. We were watching you on
- 26:34Speaker 1: the well, I wasn't watching you, my producer was, and
- 26:38Speaker 1: I'm feeling like I should put a flyer on you,
- 26:40Speaker 1: like I feel like this could be a top ten
- 26:41Speaker 1: finish for you.
- 26:42Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 26:42Speaker 1: Huh Yeah, I mean I think my my previous best
- 26:45Speaker 1: finish is like fifty second.
- 26:47Speaker 4: I know my kids, I tell my kids every day
- 26:50Speaker 4: I'm gonna win it.
- 26:50Speaker 7: I'm gonna win the America Central Championship, and they're okay, Dad,
- 26:53Speaker 7: fifty eighth place, so they're gonna.
- 26:56Speaker 4: I can't wait. I'm gonna tell them my game's really
- 26:58Speaker 4: rounded in the form.
- 26:58Speaker 3: You also a top fifty, he sounds better, not top twenty.
- 27:01Speaker 7: Sure, sure, I'm coming from the first place. Gets a
- 27:04Speaker 7: lab coat now, so I'm going for first.
- 27:07Speaker 1: How many rounds of golfa you played before you got here?
- 27:10Speaker 1: I got that many.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I'm guessing I'm four or five. I'd say, okay, I
- 27:13Speaker 4: played a couple with Brady.
- 27:15Speaker 1: As a as a as an athlete, as a world
- 27:17Speaker 1: class athlete. Does it bother you when guys like Taylor
- 27:19Speaker 1: twelve men are like, hey, I played two.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Rounds this year, and then they go out like four
- 27:23Speaker 3: at the bar.
- 27:24Speaker 4: You know he's They were, hey, guess what he was
- 27:26Speaker 4: in lake yesterday? Now this morning? But I saw him yesterday.
- 27:29Speaker 4: He was he was getting in there and.
- 27:30Speaker 3: He he knows all twelve.
- 27:31Speaker 4: It was, yeah, he's a golfer.
- 27:33Speaker 3: I know we had him on the other day.
- 27:35Speaker 1: He was an athlete, so yes, no, I just those
- 27:37Speaker 1: guys had that silky smooth swing and the ball in
- 27:40Speaker 1: the fairway that they know when they te off that
- 27:42Speaker 1: the ball is going to be in play.
- 27:43Speaker 4: That would be a great feeling I have. I've been
- 27:45Speaker 4: chasing that one.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Were you into the US soccer at all? Yeah, it
- 27:49Speaker 3: was sweet.
- 27:49Speaker 7: I'm not a huge soccer guy, but I respect what
- 27:52Speaker 7: they do. Man, I respect watching those guys play. I
- 27:54Speaker 7: didn't think I would. I didn't think i'd watched as
- 27:56Speaker 7: much and I did.
- 27:57Speaker 3: They forced us to watch.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Yeah, and it was awesome.
- 28:00Speaker 3: It's cool.
- 28:00Speaker 4: I don't I don't I claim to understand what it's
- 28:04Speaker 4: about and.
- 28:04Speaker 7: What they should be doing it that should be playing,
- 28:06Speaker 7: but I respect how they play. And you know, I
- 28:08Speaker 7: love that the coach gets into play hard and be tough.
- 28:11Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 28:12Speaker 4: You mentioned how many cool things you've gotten to do
- 28:14Speaker 4: as a member with the McAfee show. Is there anything
- 28:17Speaker 4: still on your sports bucket list where you're like, man,
- 28:19Speaker 4: it would be really cool if we could check this out.
- 28:21Speaker 7: That's a good question. Yes, Honestly, I don't know if
- 28:24Speaker 7: I can give you an answer. That's awesome. We I've
- 28:26Speaker 7: done something.
- 28:26Speaker 3: About winning this thing.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I mean, oh yeah, yeah, that's the top of the list.
- 28:31Speaker 4: It's up there right winning out here.
- 28:32Speaker 7: Yes, And there's so many awesome things like I've been
- 28:35Speaker 7: I've been super lucky to get to experience a lot
- 28:37Speaker 7: of awesome things even after playing football now like to
- 28:40Speaker 7: be in awesome events, But yeah, why not win it
- 28:43Speaker 7: out here? I mean, I don't, man, these guys are
- 28:45Speaker 7: seriously watching. They're like they're putting their alignment sticks out here.
- 28:49Speaker 1: In friend of mine, it's a ridiculous he's playing nine
- 28:52Speaker 1: tournaments already.
- 28:52Speaker 7: Put money on Marty. Well I have, but I put
- 28:55Speaker 7: all my money on Marty. Yeah, you can play, but
- 28:56Speaker 7: there's a lot. There's a lot of guys that can
- 28:58Speaker 7: win it.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Though. Does golf crazy though?
- 29:01Speaker 4: Like everything?
- 29:01Speaker 1: Like no, But athletics have come fairly easy to you.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I imagine your entire life, and this game's hard, man,
- 29:06Speaker 1: it is.
- 29:06Speaker 7: But being an athlete helps with any kind of game
- 29:10Speaker 7: or sport you can play. But you don't have to
- 29:11Speaker 7: be an athlete to be a great golfer, right, so
- 29:14Speaker 7: I don't.
- 29:14Speaker 4: That's not a slight to anyone.
- 29:16Speaker 7: I just think you so many different Like, just because
- 29:18Speaker 7: someone's an awesome athlete doesn't mean that it doesn't always
- 29:21Speaker 7: translate to golf.
- 29:21Speaker 4: It usually doesn't.
- 29:22Speaker 7: Like it's ben't it crazy sometimes seeing how ugly some
- 29:25Speaker 7: swings are of some of the people the greatest athletes,
- 29:27Speaker 7: Yes we know, yes, yeah, And I'm not true. Mine's
- 29:31Speaker 7: not pretty at all.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Look at Trey Wingo out there. Does he look like
- 29:33Speaker 3: an athlete to you? I mean that guy could smoke
- 29:35Speaker 3: a golf ball though I'm doing.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm Donie.
- 29:40Speaker 1: But the two to eighty down the fairway, every single drum,
- 29:42Speaker 1: I believe it. Oh if so listen, I have a
- 29:45Speaker 1: ridiculous take and I just want to get your thoughts.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I think Caleb Williams is going to be the greatest
- 29:50Speaker 1: quarterback we've ever seen.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Am I nuts?
- 29:53Speaker 1: I mean time will tell right now, but as well
- 29:57Speaker 1: the lesson this is sports radio, we have to give
- 29:59Speaker 1: an instant.
- 30:00Speaker 4: I think he's awesome.
- 30:01Speaker 7: He's been you know, I played for the Packers for
- 30:03Speaker 7: nine years, so I think it's awesome that the Bears
- 30:06Speaker 7: are good and that they're they're it's a huge rivalry,
- 30:09Speaker 7: and I think Caleb's amazing their whole team. I like
- 30:11Speaker 7: how they're coach man, I like how they play. But
- 30:13Speaker 7: also I love the Packers and I feel good about
- 30:15Speaker 7: them and where they're going.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Ay a my sports bucket list, I still have to
- 30:19Speaker 4: check off lambeau Field. But I hate cold football, so
- 30:23Speaker 4: it feels like that's kind of did you play football
- 30:25Speaker 4: like playing.
- 30:26Speaker 3: He was a walk out of Carolina.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Yes, I walked on in North Carolina. But the second
- 30:29Speaker 4: the season hit like November, is when I start acted
- 30:32Speaker 4: in I gotta started shutting it down on the scout team.
- 30:37Speaker 4: So it wasn't noticeable. Oh yeah, it was like the
- 30:41Speaker 4: calendar hits November. It's like a town is going to
- 30:43Speaker 4: be checked out. Somebody else is gonna get the scout team.
- 30:45Speaker 4: You how long did you last? I played three years
- 30:48Speaker 4: as good for you? Then he didn't completely package. Yeah,
- 30:51Speaker 4: so I don't like cold weather. Ye, little fingers get
- 30:54Speaker 4: hurt when they get in the well.
- 30:56Speaker 5: I was.
- 30:57Speaker 4: I kind of was with the mindset. I'm on the
- 30:59Speaker 4: scout team. I'm not going to get off the scout team.
- 31:01Speaker 4: And when you get hit in the cold, it stings
- 31:04Speaker 4: a little more.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Yeah, that's why you got to be the hammer, not
- 31:07Speaker 7: the nail man. I was exclusive, but sometimes it hurts
- 31:11Speaker 7: me in both. But yes, I would rather win on
- 31:14Speaker 7: that side. Say so, you wouldn't sell you lose some though.
- 31:16Speaker 4: I was on the scout kickoff team where the guy
- 31:19Speaker 4: would come and blindside you every time. Did you guys
- 31:22Speaker 4: go full go? Yes? Yeah, I was the nail that
- 31:25Speaker 4: So did you have to act like you didn't know
- 31:27Speaker 4: this was No, they wouldn't tell us what look it
- 31:30Speaker 4: was going to be, and then I would get blindsided
- 31:32Speaker 4: and hey, just look this way, Bud, don't don't peak,
- 31:34Speaker 4: because yes, bron coming to ear hole. The other time
- 31:39Speaker 4: was toughness.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Huh.
- 31:40Speaker 4: It was the Georgia Tech when Georgia Tech would run
- 31:43Speaker 4: the option and I was the guy who would have
- 31:44Speaker 4: to dive at people's knees and they would just kind
- 31:46Speaker 4: of punch you away. So I was always the nail
- 31:49Speaker 4: when it came to my walk on career at North Carolina.
- 31:51Speaker 4: But I want to go to cold football. Is there
- 31:54Speaker 4: anything you could kind of give tips on unbelievable?
- 31:56Speaker 1: You wrapped that back in the cold football?
- 32:01Speaker 3: Yes, he brought a full circle.
- 32:03Speaker 4: So any tips for cold football?
- 32:04Speaker 7: Yeah, just take care of honestly, your little fingers in
- 32:07Speaker 7: your feet, hands and feet, so where like, uh, you'd
- 32:11Speaker 7: wear like surgical gloves underneath football gloves.
- 32:13Speaker 1: That helps a little bit. People put vasiline on their arms,
- 32:16Speaker 1: I mean that you try it.
- 32:18Speaker 7: It doesn't really do a whole lot, But if your
- 32:20Speaker 7: fingers feel okay and and your toes are all right,
- 32:22Speaker 7: it's not bad.
- 32:23Speaker 4: You can do it.
- 32:23Speaker 3: We'll get you out of here on this note, and
- 32:24Speaker 3: we appreciate you doing this for us. I was. I
- 32:27Speaker 3: was in a shuttle last night.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Uh and Adam Theelan is telling a story that that
- 32:33Speaker 1: someone else in that shuttle dislocated his shoulder during an
- 32:35Speaker 1: NFL game, and it was Charles Woodson. And Woodson was
- 32:39Speaker 1: hearing this for the first time, like he knew he
- 32:43Speaker 1: dislocated someone's shoulder, he didn't know what was feelings. And
- 32:46Speaker 1: so I'm wondering, are there guys that you have hurt
- 32:48Speaker 1: where you just haven't even like friends of yours, where
- 32:50Speaker 1: you just didn't realize it was that person that later
- 32:52Speaker 1: on in life they were like, Hey, you're the guy
- 32:54Speaker 1: who broke my knee.
- 32:55Speaker 4: Yes, I don't know. I don't know if I've been confronted.
- 32:58Speaker 3: That that's strange that Woodson wouldt know that though.
- 33:00Speaker 4: No, it's not. It's not once did that. I was.
- 33:03Speaker 7: I played one year with the Bengals. Brian Hartline was
- 33:05Speaker 7: on the Browns and I've never asked Heart about it, but.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I need to wright he I like retraced he I
- 33:10Speaker 1: was a rushing the quarterback. I think I retraced and
- 33:12Speaker 1: I went back and he caught a ball and he
- 33:13Speaker 1: started to turn up and I hit him directly in
- 33:15Speaker 1: the back of the head, and.
- 33:16Speaker 4: I thought he was out for a second.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I thought he was out down and he popped up
- 33:20Speaker 1: because he's tough his nails. And I've never asked him,
- 33:23Speaker 1: but I don't know if he was out or not
- 33:25Speaker 1: great to him either? What But does he know? You
- 33:27Speaker 1: don't know if well, does he know what was you? No,
- 33:30Speaker 1: we've never talked. I don't know why I never as friend,
- 33:32Speaker 1: probably wouldn't remember that. Yes, multiple different heart lines of
- 33:36Speaker 1: scrappy sob and he's.
- 33:37Speaker 4: Awesome here that's Ohio State on Ohio State crime.
- 33:40Speaker 7: Yes, that's why I'm saying he probably doesn't remember because
- 33:42Speaker 7: it's just running.
- 33:43Speaker 4: This is what he does. Yeah, of course guys hitting
- 33:45Speaker 4: the back of the head all the time.
- 33:46Speaker 3: I just love the idea.
- 33:47Speaker 1: You could be hanging out with your friend and your friend,
- 33:48Speaker 1: you know, took your knee out four years ago.
- 33:50Speaker 7: You know, Yeah, yeah, that'd be I It would not
- 33:53Speaker 7: be fun. Some guys can get over.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah, we appreciate you doing this. Man the American Century Championship.
- 33:59Speaker 1: This has been fantastic. As someone who you know we
- 34:02Speaker 1: trail blazes a little bit in this industry.
- 34:04Speaker 3: I'm really proud of you guys. You guys are killing
- 34:05Speaker 3: it man.
- 34:05Speaker 4: Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
- 34:07Speaker 1: We are wrapping up what has been a great week
- 34:09Speaker 1: here at the American Century Championship Lake Tahoe.
- 34:13Speaker 3: We've been out here.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I've been out here for the last I don't know,
- 34:16Speaker 1: eight or nine years, and I look forward to continuing
- 34:21Speaker 1: to come out here because, as Taylor pointed out earlier,
- 34:23Speaker 1: this is the Brady Quinn of sporting events, and who
- 34:26Speaker 1: wouldn't want to attend the Brady Quinn exactly.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Sporting events.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Our thanks today to Gary Sheffield, Matthew Ka, Chuck aj Hawk,
- 34:35Speaker 1: Robert Sala.
- 34:36Speaker 3: They were all fantastic.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Joe Thaisman is on God Bless Football if you'd like
- 34:40Speaker 1: to listen to that. Also want to thank Matt and
- 34:42Speaker 1: Neil before we get out of here, who did a
- 34:44Speaker 1: great job.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Our camera audio guys.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Digital guys who did a fantastic job the entire week.
- 34:49Speaker 3: We appreciate their hard work.
- 34:51Speaker 1: And Edward thanks to NBC and all the folks here
- 34:54Speaker 1: at the American Century Championship Golf tournament, especially Nick Casanova,
- 34:58Speaker 1: who has just been in Angel on my shoulder for
- 35:01Speaker 1: the last decade or so. Anything we need, Nick Cassanov
- 35:05Speaker 1: produces it inside of five minutes, and I'm pretty certain
- 35:08Speaker 1: he has more important things to be worried about than
- 35:11Speaker 1: me and Taylor on the driving rage trying to get
- 35:13Speaker 1: a show done.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Bud, he worries about it, and we love him.
- 35:16Speaker 1: So Thank you, Nick, and thank you to all the
- 35:17Speaker 1: folks here at NBC and of course at Edgwood and
- 35:21Speaker 1: American Century Championships.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Taylor, how do you feel about the week?
- 35:26Speaker 4: I love it. The best person that I heard describe
- 35:29Speaker 4: it besides me calling at the Brady Quinn of Sporting Events.
- 35:33Speaker 3: All right, that was the best.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Brian Bumgardner from the Office. Kevin from the Office said,
- 35:36Speaker 4: when he dies, he wants his body brought here and
- 35:39Speaker 4: dumped in the middle of the lake. It's dark, but
- 35:43Speaker 4: there's something oddly beautiful about that in a twisted way.
- 35:46Speaker 1: These guys love it, man, they love it. They swear
- 35:49Speaker 1: by it. The guys who can't make it are worry
- 35:51Speaker 1: they won't be invited back. And I'm here to tell
- 35:53Speaker 1: Josh Allen You're going to be invited.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Back, dude. Stop worrying. About it, Joe Buck, you too.
- 36:00Speaker 1: These guys lose their minds over this, but you're you're
- 36:03Speaker 1: happy with the week, because I would maintain I've been
- 36:06Speaker 1: out here for many, many years. You've only been out here.
- 36:09Speaker 1: This is your second year out here with me. This
- 36:11Speaker 1: is a top three year for me in terms of access,
- 36:14Speaker 1: in terms of guests.
- 36:15Speaker 3: You killed it, buddy, So I'm proud of you.
- 36:17Speaker 4: We won the week, Sala. Dylan Dryer, Yep, hard to
- 36:21Speaker 4: beat this week, Salah.
- 36:23Speaker 3: And Dylan Dryer is where you went?
- 36:24Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I'm still I'm still realing off Matthew Kachuck
- 36:27Speaker 4: saying I asked him the worst question ever.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Well, let's let's okay.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Listen, Matthew Kachuck was sitting next to us, and he
- 36:35Speaker 1: was flummixed. He had I mean, he didn't understand what
- 36:40Speaker 1: it was Taylor was trying to ask.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Taylor was essentially accusing him of collusion.
- 36:47Speaker 1: That because he has a podcast that enabled him to
- 36:50Speaker 1: get his brother down to the Florida Panthers.
- 36:52Speaker 3: And I would say, no, it's not the podcast.
- 36:54Speaker 1: It's just a simple phone call, like, bro, let's get
- 36:56Speaker 1: you down here if we can. And the Panthers made
- 36:59Speaker 1: it happen Bill Zito, who takes credit for their podcast
- 37:03Speaker 1: and made that deal and got them.
- 37:04Speaker 4: I feel like you two were gaining up on me
- 37:06Speaker 4: when you weren't asking that question. And then once the
- 37:09Speaker 4: camera stopped rolling, Matthew Chuck put his arm on me
- 37:12Speaker 4: and was like, man, that was a funny question. I
- 37:14Speaker 4: was like, Matthew, I could have used you there to
- 37:16Speaker 4: say it was a funny question.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Well, no, but the person you could have used was me,
- 37:20Speaker 3: and I just left you alone.
- 37:21Speaker 4: No, not only did you leave me alone, ye buried me.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Well, I did because you deserved it. It's the rare
- 37:26Speaker 1: time I'll do that to you. I don't like doing
- 37:28Speaker 1: that to you. You know that I want you to
- 37:30Speaker 1: not feel alone. Lord knows I have felt alone on
- 37:32Speaker 1: the radio many, many times over the last two decades,
- 37:36Speaker 1: with no one there to bullieve me or help support me.
- 37:39Speaker 1: And usually you have to give me credit. I do
- 37:41Speaker 1: that for you. This time you did not deserve it.
- 37:44Speaker 4: You saw Matthew's confused look, and you were like, I'm
- 37:48Speaker 4: gonna jump on this right now.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Well, no, he had every reason to be confused. It
- 37:54Speaker 1: was a weird question, and like you kind of fumbled
- 37:57Speaker 1: around a little bit. You weren't terribly confident in how
- 37:59Speaker 1: you were asking it. It's okay, tailor it happens. It's
- 38:02Speaker 1: a love radio. I mean, we'll shake it off. Yeah,
- 38:05Speaker 1: but you did shake it off. You really sat with you.
- 38:07Speaker 4: It's gonna sit with me until next year.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Listen, you remember the episode we did win Stegatz at
- 38:14Speaker 1: Hawk about Chuck Norris the interview and I had the
- 38:16Speaker 1: first question because Dan decided that was the perfect time
- 38:18Speaker 1: to throw it to me for the first time in
- 38:20Speaker 1: show history, the first time he would throw it to
- 38:22Speaker 1: me to ask the first question in an interview. And
- 38:26Speaker 1: I watched it and it was bad, and Dan crushed me.
- 38:30Speaker 1: It took me a year to get the stench off. Okay,
- 38:34Speaker 1: so three hundred and sixty four days to go. My
- 38:36Speaker 1: friend and Matthew was like.
- 38:39Speaker 4: I saw Matthew later and he was like, did you
- 38:40Speaker 4: ask Brady that question too? And I was like, no,
- 38:42Speaker 4: we didn't get the chance to talk to Brady. And
- 38:44Speaker 4: I would never ask that question ever again in my life.
- 38:46Speaker 4: I've eliminated that question from my vocabulary.
- 38:49Speaker 3: I would have played a brack for Brady.
- 38:51Speaker 1: I was too ashamed to ask another Kachuck to come
- 38:53Speaker 1: on afterwards, it's okay, buddy, you're still upset and I'm
- 39:00Speaker 1: still leaving you alone on an island, even though I'm
- 39:02Speaker 1: telling you it was okay.
- 39:04Speaker 3: It was okay. Who's your favorite guest this week?
- 39:07Speaker 4: Dealing dryer?
- 39:08Speaker 3: Really?
- 39:09Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 39:10Speaker 1: Scene Mallar apologized to me by the way, he said
- 39:13Speaker 1: he was going to come on yesterday. He's a man
- 39:15Speaker 1: of his word. I told him, you're not a man
- 39:17Speaker 1: of your word. You didn't come back, and he said,
- 39:18Speaker 1: I am a man of my word. I had family.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Responsibilities, and I said, now, don't tell me you're going
- 39:22Speaker 3: to come back. That's done. Fair.
- 39:24Speaker 4: I wasn't dying to have Kevin Malaran.
- 39:25Speaker 3: I was.
- 39:26Speaker 4: We could be honest because I grew up a Yankee fan.
- 39:28Speaker 4: He's a Red Sox fan, part of that idiot Red
- 39:30Speaker 4: Sox team. Yes, he basically ruined my childhood in two
- 39:34Speaker 4: thousand and four, two thousand and three, whatever it was
- 39:36Speaker 4: right in two thousand and four.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Can you do me a favor, though, Stop running things
- 39:41Speaker 1: through your prism until your the only way I do it.
- 39:44Speaker 3: I know, but your name.
- 39:45Speaker 1: When it's the Taylor Vippalis show, okay, and I'm producing
- 39:49Speaker 1: it because I've grown too old to talk. Okay, then
- 39:53Speaker 1: you could dictate who the guests are. But if I
- 39:56Speaker 1: want Kevin Malara on, I don't care that he brewined
- 39:59Speaker 1: your child yildhood.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Like, I'm just not going to jump through hoops to
- 40:03Speaker 4: try to get Kevin mar if I'll ask Kevin Maher
- 40:05Speaker 4: to join the show, right. If Kevin Moore doesn't show up, okay,
- 40:07Speaker 4: then I'm not going to follow back up with Kevin Maher.
- 40:09Speaker 3: All right, But Vince Carter is someone who went to
- 40:11Speaker 3: the same school.
- 40:12Speaker 4: I don't want to bother Vince Carter, but I want
- 40:15Speaker 4: you to bother Vince Carter my prison, Vin sanity.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Your But what is my prism coming into play? It's
- 40:24Speaker 3: his show.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Everyone, I've dumbler.
- 40:26Speaker 1: I have lost control of the proceedings here with Taylor.
- 40:31Speaker 3: What do you have in terms of gambling on this
- 40:33Speaker 3: tournament this week? What are you thinking about? What are
- 40:34Speaker 3: we gonna do here?
- 40:35Speaker 1: Because like I listen, I've been watching every single guy
- 40:39Speaker 1: in the range, and yeah, you know, I know, Derek
- 40:42Speaker 1: Carr looks at times like he can win this thing,
- 40:44Speaker 1: and so does Ray Allen, and so does Adam Thielen.
- 40:46Speaker 3: But there's really only one.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Guy, two guys Joe Pavloski, who won whatever tomato Tomato,
- 40:56Speaker 1: the guy who won it last year, and Marty Fish.
- 41:00Speaker 1: And I find it hard to believe if Marty Fish
- 41:02Speaker 1: is on his game that anyone's going to beat Marty Fish.
- 41:05Speaker 3: That's where I'm putting my money this week.
- 41:06Speaker 4: So Marty Fish and Pavelski are co favorites three to one.
- 41:11Speaker 4: Steph Curry and John Smoltz are next at seven to two.
- 41:15Speaker 4: In terms of volume, more bets have been placed this
- 41:19Speaker 4: week on Steph Curry to win the tournament than any
- 41:22Speaker 4: other golfer, but the biggest liability according to sportsbooks, this
- 41:26Speaker 4: weekend at the American Century Championship, and he guesses on
- 41:29Speaker 4: who it is? Who do people want to put a
- 41:32Speaker 4: flyer on to see if he could win it? It
- 41:35Speaker 4: can't beat Parkley, Steve GOTTSI Parkley come on the longest
- 41:39Speaker 4: odds of anybody in the field.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Yes here, you know what, seventy.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Five hundred to one, So a one hundred dollars bet
- 41:46Speaker 4: would win you seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars if
- 41:50Speaker 4: the round amount of rebound can win this damn thing.
- 41:54Speaker 3: But he's not.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I want to start a sports book. Everyone send those
- 41:58Speaker 1: bets to me and what I'll send you back as
- 42:00Speaker 1: a lighter.
- 42:01Speaker 4: A lot would have to go right for Charles Barkley
- 42:04Speaker 4: to win this.
- 42:07Speaker 1: No one else can show up the play if you
- 42:09Speaker 1: want Charles Barkley to win this again, that's what has
- 42:12Speaker 1: to go right. A lot of everyone else in the
- 42:14Speaker 1: field decided not to wake up and play in the
- 42:17Speaker 1: play in the tournament because he just wanted to enjoy
- 42:19Speaker 1: Lake to But.
- 42:20Speaker 4: Also it's a bit disrespectful to Sir Charles that he
- 42:23Speaker 4: has the longest odds of anybody in this field. Yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 4: he finished sixty ninth last year, and better than Ray
- 42:29Speaker 4: Romono who's here. That's better than my good friend Colin
- 42:32Speaker 4: jos who's here this year. It's better than Trevor Lawrence.
- 42:34Speaker 4: There's a ton of names that Charles Barkley beat last year.
- 42:38Speaker 4: And then you're telling me Charles Barkley has the worst
- 42:40Speaker 4: odds of anybody. Put some respect on Sir Charles's name.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Give me some head to head odds. Let me let
- 42:45Speaker 4: me take rich eyes in versus Charles Barkley. Anybody anybody
- 42:48Speaker 4: want to give me that action back here, I'll take it.
- 42:52Speaker 4: I'm telling you, I'm telling you Charles is coming there.
- 42:54Speaker 1: I want to know the odds on Colin Joe, just
- 42:55Speaker 1: remembering you next year, you're good friend.
- 42:59Speaker 4: Plus forty five million. No, no sports booking America would
- 43:05Speaker 4: take those odds right now.
- 43:06Speaker 3: So what is Barkley again?
- 43:08Speaker 4: He is seventy five hundred to one, So one hundred
- 43:13Speaker 4: wins me seven thousand.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Screw it, I'm doing it, I mean, just right, just
- 43:21Speaker 1: the event everyone else passes out on the golf course
- 43:24Speaker 1: and as we're wrapping up here this week.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Yes, I'm gonna give.
- 43:27Speaker 4: My official prediction because who was your pick, Pavelski or
- 43:30Speaker 4: Marty Fith No, it's Marty Fish Okay, really went out
- 43:33Speaker 4: on a limb there. I'm making a favorite. What do
- 43:35Speaker 4: you want me to tell you?
- 43:35Speaker 1: He's the best golfer here, dude, by a law, by
- 43:38Speaker 1: a wide margin.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Go ahead, my official pick. He's plus twelve hundred to
- 43:43Speaker 4: win this thing. Taylor Twelveman.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Oh wow, he's plus twelve hundred.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm looking for value. I'm looking for somebody who
- 43:51Speaker 4: could win US men's national team let us down this week?
- 43:55Speaker 4: Who could who could take that mantle? Taylor Twelveman. I
- 44:00Speaker 4: liked Twaman, I do.
- 44:01Speaker 3: I like to pick I saw him get out of
- 44:03Speaker 3: the lake shirtless with his dad.
- 44:05Speaker 1: His dad was also shirtless. This is what lake week
- 44:09Speaker 1: is also is all about.
