- 0:28and we look forward to bringing you the program from
- 0:31bar w New and Cool Sports Bar in Dallas. It's
- 0:38on Maple Avenue and it's just across from If you
- 0:42know Dallas, you know where the Stoneley Hotel is there
- 0:44on Maple.
- 0:47Speaker 1: That's where it's across the street from.
- 0:48Speaker 2: In fact, it's in the old Stoneley p Bar space there,
- 0:52and so we'll do the program there on Friday. We're
- 0:54calling it the red River Preview and we'll be on
- 0:57the air from two to six on Friday. We includes
- 1:02not only the producer Cameron Parker and myself, but also
- 1:05my cardboll Harge will be with us there on Friday
- 1:10this Friday of Red River Rivalry Week, and then on
- 1:14Saturday morning beginning at eleven thirty on the fair grounds
- 1:19of the State Fair of Texas where they've played this
- 1:22football game continuously since nineteen twenty nine. This is the
- 1:26one hundred and twentieth meeting between Texas and Oklahoma. But
- 1:32they've only played it continuously in Dallas since nineteen twenty nine.
- 1:38And they used to have an old stadium called fair
- 1:40Park Stadium, old wooden grandstand, and they played it in
- 1:43there for a little bit in the early thirties, yet
- 1:45burned to the ground, called fire and burned. So then
- 1:48they built what we now know to be the Cotton Bowl.
- 1:50They started playing it there in nineteen thirty seven, and
- 1:52then of course it expanded in nineteen forty five, added
- 1:55the upper deck, and it was known as the House
- 1:57that Doak built because Doak Walker ran up and down
- 2:01that field when he was winning the Heisman Trophy for
- 2:03SMU in the mid to late forties. And so they've
- 2:07been playing it in Dallas continuously since nineteen twenty nine
- 2:10on the fair Grounds. And on the Fairgrounds is where
- 2:14Cameron Parker, Mike Cardball, Hard and the world's strongest man
- 2:19Mark Henry will bring you our Longhorns game day program
- 2:24leaning up to Texas OU Saturday. Of course, the network
- 2:27pre game Roger Wallace, Will Matthews will join me for
- 2:30that beginning at one point thirty the kickoff at and
- 2:33it's probably gonna be closer to two forty five to
- 2:35two fifty, but you know it's scheduled for two THIRTI
- 2:39it's gonna be a little bit later that by the
- 2:41time they kick it off. But anyway, our coverage begins
- 2:45at eleven thirty Saturday morning from the Fairgrounds. So prediction
- 2:50by the time you take air Saturday morning at eleven
- 2:53thirty for the game day programming, how many deep fried
- 2:59foods will you consumed by them? Probably just a corn dog?
- 3:03Speaker 3: Okay, probably just a corn dog, because depending on the
- 3:07setup time and the teardown time and where are we
- 3:12at in the vicinity of other food places that are
- 3:17easy to get to and get back because it's it's
- 3:19going to be packed, it's going to be great weather,
- 3:20and it's going to mean to be packed. And of course,
- 3:23you know the press box, they do give us rudies
- 3:25to think last year was rudy, so we'll bank on that.
- 3:28But afterwards, because there's really no point in rushing to
- 3:31get home, depending on how the result goes, that's when
- 3:35I'll probably dive into some of something else deeper fried foods,
- 3:39I think, and that's what I didn't get too crazy
- 3:43this past year. I did Friday Orios the first time
- 3:45two years ago. That was incredible, But I think in
- 3:48this year, I don't know that the Turculate's forty forty
- 3:51tickets forty bucks. I don't know if I can stomach
- 3:54that crag, but I may have to because I still
- 3:56I haven't had a turculate yet from the Texas State there.
- 3:58I've had it from that of Carolina State Fair, but
- 4:02never have had it from the Texas State there.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It's it's it's something special. I'm a corn doll guy,
- 4:06but I've had the turkey leg and uh and then
- 4:11I think I had the deep fried biscoff dessert last year.
- 4:14Speaker 1: That was pretty cool.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Where they have anything that's got kind of chocolate and
- 4:19caramel and peanut butter, peanut but that stuff.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I'm I'm there, you know all that kind of stuff.
- 4:26Speaker 3: So yeah, that's just the lines in trying to eat
- 4:30it in the hot sun, like when you're when you're
- 4:32so heat deprived, you just want something cool. But there's
- 4:35a lot of you know, kind of frozen items this year.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, tomorrow on the program, we're gonna run down the
- 4:42State Fair food the things that folks can do.
- 4:45Speaker 1: There's some very interesting options this year. Yeah, I think.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I'm honest, I think last year was better looking at
- 4:51the new food items because there's not there's not a
- 4:55lot to choose from. I mean there there's a lot
- 4:57to choose from, but there's also not a lot to
- 4:58choose from.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll run those things down today. All right, Okay,
- 5:06somebody on the text line say, hey, that Victory plus
- 5:09app is pretty cool. It's free and better user friendly
- 5:13than the paligs app.
- 5:14Speaker 1: As what they say about that?
- 5:16Speaker 2: Okay, all right, coming up, we're going to visit with
- 5:19Greg Tapper, managing editor or Dave Camill's Texas Football Magazine.
- 5:22But before we get to tap, just to give you
- 5:25an idea of what goes through the player's minds on
- 5:28a week like this. Never mind that Texas is a
- 5:32fourteen and a half pointy favorite, This is Texas.
- 5:37Speaker 1: You is the Red River rivalry.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I've been in that broadcast booth and seen what Texas
- 5:43was a substantial favorite and got smacked around by Oklahoma.
- 5:48I've been in that broadcast booth when Oklahoma was a
- 5:50substantial favorite and got smacked around by Texas again, throwing
- 5:56record books out of windows and all that other kind
- 5:58of stuff. For getting that all that stuff, this game
- 6:01stands alone, and a guy like David Benda, who's about
- 6:06to play in his sixth Texas OU game, knows all
- 6:09about what needs to go into the preparation and the
- 6:13mental preparedness and emotional preparedness to play in this game.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Great support, but honestly, we got to make sure we
- 6:19come out and bring our best because I know they're
- 6:20gonna bring.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Out their best. I mean, it's the Texas OU rivalry.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Everyone thinks they're saying they I'm telling you, oh, you's
- 6:26gonna bring their best regardless of what they're doing. I
- 6:28know we're taking a week, but we just seeing those games, honestly,
- 6:31it was just it was eye opening. It was just
- 6:33more like to reinforce the idea of like we need
- 6:36to hone in on the little details in regardless that
- 6:38hey is never in the in the barn.
- 6:41Speaker 1: We got to make sure we.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Have every rock turn, every little thing. We need to
- 6:45hone in on many to make sure we're fanatical to
- 6:48the ball, make sure we'll just have everything sound because
- 6:50it doesn't matter who you're facing, regardless of what's gonna happen.
- 6:52Speaker 1: It's college football. Anything can happen, you know.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, playing and simple, and we saw that last weekend
- 6:58with Vanderbilt knocking off Alabama, Arkansas beating Tennessee at Texas
- 7:03A and m was actually slightly favored over Missouri, but
- 7:06to dominate them the way they did, absolutely dominate them,
- 7:10I think surprised a lot of folks. And then to
- 7:16see some of the other surprises USC lose in Minnesota.
- 7:19Michigan lost to Washington. Five of the top eleven ranked
- 7:23teams the nation went down to defeat. So it's a
- 7:26difference with college football a supposed to the NFL. All right,
- 7:28up next, we'll talk about college and high school football
- 7:31in the state of Texas As. We'll visit with Greg Tepper,
- 7:34managing editor of Dave Campills Texas Football Magazine. When we
- 7:37continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of
- 7:39the iHeartRadio app
