Transcript
- 0:00Hey friends, you're in for a treat today, education advocate, speaker, author, and actress
- 0:05Sam Sorbo is back with us, coming up on World View Matters.
- 0:12Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:19defending biblical Christianity, no topic, off limits, and now here's your host, David
- 0:27Fear Azo.
- 0:29Friends, thank you for watching and listening and sharing the podcast.
- 0:33God bless you.
- 0:35And let's bring in Sam Sorbo now.
- 0:36It's great to reconnect with you.
- 0:38Let's catch up, sister, how you doing?
- 0:40Really good.
- 0:41I just had an op-ed come out in the Washington Times, so I'm very happy about that, talking
- 0:45about school choice this week in particular because this is school choice week, which
- 0:50is such an interesting thing that they've managed to make a week out of sort of celebrating
- 0:55this very, very vague idea.
- 0:57Yeah.
- 0:58I mean, choice is good, but should the government fund choice?
- 1:02Hmm.
- 1:03And there are strings attached then, right, when the government is involved?
- 1:07Oh, I don't know.
- 1:09Let's look at history.
- 1:11No, so that's at the Washington Times and that op-ed can be found there, guys, if you
- 1:16want to look that up.
- 1:18But I do want to point you to the website sorbostudios.com to catch up with what Sam and Kevin are
- 1:24up to sorbostudios.com.
- 1:28And the book we're going to talk a little bit about today is over on Amazon Parents Guide
- 1:33to Home School, Making Education Easy and Fun.
- 1:37Sam, I just want to start off by saying what Tucker Carlson said about the book.
- 1:42In your heart, you probably suspect that homeschooling is better for your kids, but how do you
- 1:49do it?
- 1:50Some sorbonos and her family is a testament to the fact it works.
- 1:55Wow, Tucker Carlson, that's great.
- 1:57So the book came out the end of last year.
- 2:01Tell us a little bit about you've written so much on the topic, you're kind of passionate
- 2:05about education and homeschooling.
- 2:08So remember, the first time we talked, you shared the story about, I think you went to
- 2:13Duke and you were afraid to homeschool your kids.
- 2:17And so that's in a previous podcast.
- 2:20I will never forget that because it's astounding, but I think about a lot of parents, maybe
- 2:24who don't have the education that you had and have concerns about homeschooling their
- 2:29kids.
- 2:30Can you speak to that first before we get rolling?
- 2:32Absolutely, because it is one of the biggest ones is we feel so incapable, don't we?
- 2:38And the reason that we feel incapable is because we are products of the nation's schools.
- 2:44So if you feel incapable, that is an impeachment of the school.
- 2:48And that should be the warning sign that you need not to send your child in there to
- 2:53get to develop the same sense of inability that you have.
- 2:58But then I can go to the statistics and I can say to you that home educated children score
- 3:04roughly 15 to 25% better on the standardized testing that the schools give.
- 3:10So this is the same tests, homeschooled children score better.
- 3:14And that is regardless of their parents level of education, regardless of it.
- 3:21So parents who have no education are educating their own children better than the schools
- 3:27are.
- 3:28And the problem that we face, the sort of the uphill climb is that a lot of parents, a
- 3:32lot of people today will say, oh, but I'm the exception.
- 3:37Don't flatter yourself, you're not the exception.
- 3:40I'm just saying like Ben Carson's mother couldn't read.
- 3:46She made him write a book report every day, every week on a book that he took out of the
- 3:51library.
- 3:52She couldn't read it.
- 3:54But he turned into Ben Carson.
- 3:57And my point is that the one metric that is the best metric for predicting a child's academic
- 4:05success is not the academic level of his parents.
- 4:10It's not how good a school he goes to.
- 4:13His level of academic success is best predicted by parental involvement.
- 4:21It's not the smarts of the parent.
- 4:23It's the interest of the parent that gives the child the impetus to learn and to keep
- 4:28learning and to grow in wisdom.
- 4:31And so that's what we're about.
- 4:33And that's what Ben Carson achieved, number one neurosurgeon and premier in the world's
- 4:39ran for President of the United States among many, many other things.
- 4:43And that's his story is this idea that his mother just poured into him, just the interest
- 4:50and the drive.
- 4:53Parental involvement.
- 4:54I'm thinking about the hours of influence, interesting concept, and then I think about
- 4:58technology.
- 4:59I think about Hollywood.
- 5:00I think about the woke corporations and I think about the government run K-12 school
- 5:05system, little on the universities, and we won't go there, you know, Marxism on steroids.
- 5:11But let's talk about K-12.
- 5:13The kids are there.
- 5:14And now they're trying to get in there for breakfast.
- 5:16They will give you a free breakfast if you show up early.
- 5:18So less time at the family meal table at home with the parents.
- 5:23So that is by design to take kids away from the parents.
- 5:27This is an uphill battle, but it starts by getting children, Christian children out
- 5:32of the public schools or any kids, any parents that want to raise their kids and influence
- 5:37them, have them, you know, education truly educated.
- 5:41But I go over to the website which you're involved with here.
- 5:44Public school exit.
- 5:45I want to talk briefly about that because that's in part what we're talking about, Sam,
- 5:49to be able to homeschool and for parents to be involved.
- 5:53We've had many of these, Jan Reese.
- 5:55We've had her on the podcast, Alex Newman is one of our colleagues here at Freedom Project,
- 5:59Paul Blair and Duke Pesta.
- 6:02He's right here.
- 6:03Duke's office is right down the hall.
- 6:05And you are also one of our advisors here at public school exit.
- 6:09Tell us about that.
- 6:11So public school exits, just an initiative to encourage parents to take their children
- 6:15out of public school.
- 6:17My encouragement is that parents are more than capable of educating their own children.
- 6:22And in fact, I would say that education is less than 50% academic.
- 6:28And we send our children to school just for academics.
- 6:32You don't send your child to public school for moral teaching.
- 6:35You don't send them for religious teaching.
- 6:38You don't send them for spiritual teaching.
- 6:40You don't even send them if you really think about it for teaching on how to get by in
- 6:45life.
- 6:46You're hoping that they learn that sort of biosmosis that they learn social skills or
- 6:52whatever.
- 6:53You might say, oh, I send my child to school for social teach, you know, for social
- 6:57training.
- 6:58I don't know what you're smoking.
- 7:00Why you think that they get socially trained in school because they don't, nobody's actually
- 7:06doing that.
- 7:07So that's kind of absurd.
- 7:09So what public school exit does and what I do is take a step back and show you, you have
- 7:15so much ability.
- 7:16And in fact, most parents, if they, if they think about it, they are more accomplished
- 7:22than the teachers in the public schools.
- 7:24And that's not to denigrate teachers in public schools.
- 7:26There are several, there are probably many teachers in the public schools who are great
- 7:30people.
- 7:31But I'm just saying, if you went to a four year Marxist teaching college, your ideas
- 7:35might differ vastly from the parents ideas of what constitutes not only a good education,
- 7:42but a moral upbringing.
- 7:43And parents, you know, if you think about it, I, I was at an event the other day.
- 7:48And a world class world renowned recording artist was speaking.
- 7:55And he was so proud because his son was going to some big university to study sound engineering.
- 8:02And I'm like, but you're a world class, like if you gave a class on sound engineering,
- 8:09you would steal all of their students.
- 8:11You could literally educate your child yourself for free, you know, and actually it might
- 8:17even work for you.
- 8:18Like you can, you can intern your child and he can, like, but no, he's going to college
- 8:24for what you know better than anybody at that school.
- 8:28My daughter said to me years ago, maybe I'll go to college and study business.
- 8:32And I said, that's a great idea, just understand that the professors likely will never have run
- 8:37a business themselves.
- 8:38Exactly.
- 8:39And she's like, they can do that.
- 8:41So they've, they've run education off the rails.
- 8:46And we're left picking up the pieces.
- 8:48And we have a culture that has been absolutely decimated.
- 8:51The family has been destroyed by and large.
- 8:55This is why I believe this is why there's so much divorce.
- 8:58As parents don't come together to raise the kids, they go in separate directions to try
- 9:03to raise the kids.
- 9:04One of them's driving the kid here, the other one's driving the kid there, the one spends
- 9:07the time at the basketball game, the other one goes to ballet or whatever.
- 9:12And but not only that, the kids never spend time with the parents.
- 9:16And so we are a largely unparented society.
- 9:18And so this is where I just have to plug my book.
- 9:21This is where my book comes in.
- 9:23So the reason I wrote this was to empower parents.
- 9:26This is the curricula you need for your homeschooling.
- 9:30People go, but that's not for my kids.
- 9:33No, you need to learn this.
- 9:35And then you'll be fully, fully prepared to home educate your children.
- 9:39The curricula for children, my gosh, there's so much of it now.
- 9:44You could literally spit at the internet and come up with five different curricula.
- 9:48But what's important is that you start to understand what do we mean by education?
- 9:54Where do I want my child to be 10 years or 15 years from now?
- 9:58What is my ultimate goal for the education of my child?
- 10:02OK, if it's the corner office in the sky rise in Chicago with the fabulous view,
- 10:10and you never see that child because they're so busy making a living and earning the,
- 10:15you know, almighty dollar, then maybe the system is right for you.
- 10:19But if you foresee a future where you are surrounded by your grandchildren,
- 10:24do not send your children away from you for their education.
- 10:28Right.
- 10:29Thank you for the air quotes.
- 10:30The usage of air quotes there.
- 10:32How do you respond, Sam, to someone who might say, well, even a Christian or not saying,
- 10:38well, my tax dollars are going to the school system.
- 10:42So I'm already paying for it.
- 10:44And so I'm going to keep my kids there because I'm paying for it.
- 10:47I mean, I'm thinking that's an awful justification to because of what they're actually learning
- 10:53and how they're holding the last time I took my car to the garage.
- 10:58I paid him in advance, but he didn't, he didn't fix the problem.
- 11:01So I'm taking it back because I've already paid for him to fix the problem.
- 11:06And he still hasn't fixed it.
- 11:08And for some reason, it's actually worse now.
- 11:12Like you, you hear yourself.
- 11:16I mean, that's, this is the problem.
- 11:18OK, there's a, there's a bigger problem that's hard to talk about.
- 11:23And that is that our level of education is so low already for us and I graduated decades
- 11:32ago, right?
- 11:34We are not a discerning population.
- 11:37We are not a God fearing population.
- 11:39You know, there are a lot of Christians out there who send their children to public school.
- 11:43That's not in the Bible.
- 11:44That's actually anti-biblical.
- 11:46If you read your Bible, God admonishes you with the care and upbringing of your child
- 11:51and the, in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
- 11:54Those words are clear.
- 11:55Oh, they don't apply because, you know, school, but understand that schools' values are
- 12:01very different than the values of the Bible.
- 12:04The Bible says, don't fear, school says fear.
- 12:08The Bible says, you know, raise your children yourself in the fear and admonition of the
- 12:12Lord.
- 12:13School says, make sure that you worship money, college prep and career readiness.
- 12:19That's all about college.
- 12:20The whole world in school is about college prep and career readiness, which means money
- 12:26because let's face it, career readiness is just code for a better job, a better paying
- 12:32job, a longer term job.
- 12:35That's all it is.
- 12:36It is, it's probably the greatest piece of propaganda, at least before COVID, that we
- 12:42had ever seen.
- 12:46There's so much that I want to talk to you about, but you mentioned money and we know what
- 12:51the Bible says about the love of money.
- 12:53Money in itself isn't evil, but in the government run school system where tax dollars are going
- 12:58to fund this indoctrination and it's all left, it's ABC, anything but Christ and the biblical
- 13:03worldview, but they do teach religion, by the way, just not Christianity.
- 13:08The answer is always, we need more money, does the teachers unions, they need more money,
- 13:15if they only had more money, the test scores wouldn't keep dropping and we wouldn't be
- 13:19like 26th in the world when we used to be in the top five.
- 13:22Yeah, I mean, we're so low in the world.
- 13:24I think it's 27th in math and 23rd in reading, something like that.
- 13:30And we spend more per child than almost every other nation.
- 13:36I think the one exception is Switzerland spends a little bit more than we do, but we are
- 13:40not getting the job done.
- 13:41But look, look what's happening in our schools.
- 13:44We're trading restrooms, we are hiding gender transforming students from their parents.
- 13:52Yeah.
- 13:53I mean, the schools have really laid down the gauntlet against parents now and it's
- 13:59a travesty that more parents aren't speaking up, that more parents aren't saying, wait a
- 14:04minute, but what happened was four decades and through all of our schooling, we were convinced
- 14:10you can have a child and have everything else that you want.
- 14:14You can't, you must sacrifice for the child, you must, you are called to because the
- 14:20sacrifice then gets recompensed on the back end.
- 14:25And so we think of sacrifice, this is another lie.
- 14:29And by the way, these are all the lies in my book.
- 14:31So I go through all the lies that the schools teach us, teaching is hard, learning is hard,
- 14:38learning is not hard, like full stop, learning is fun, kids love to learn.
- 14:44That's why at two, they're already asking all these questions because they love to
- 14:48learn and then they get to school and the school says, no, no, no, you're not allowed
- 14:51to learn that.
- 14:52You have to learn this and they're like, well, that doesn't sound interesting and the
- 14:57die is cast.
- 14:59So we have to take a step back and reevaluate our priorities and you're right.
- 15:05The schools have set themselves diametrically opposed to the teaching in the Bible because
- 15:10for them money is the highest good.
- 15:14And that's why we see the degradation of our culture, I believe more than anything is
- 15:18people justify doing bad things because of money.
- 15:24And they're more easy, they justify it more easily now because even though morally it's
- 15:30compromising, not according to the moral system in the schools, it's a very dangerous
- 15:37thing.
- 15:38Yep.
- 15:39Yep.
- 15:40Friends, we've got to take a brief pause with Sam Sorbo.
- 15:41When we come back, we're going to talk about school choice, we're going to talk about
- 15:44a few of President Trump's executive orders and you can find more at samsorbo.com.
- 15:51She's on Twitter, X, Instagram, rumble, Facebook and samsorbo.locals.com.
- 15:58We're on World View Matters in just a minute.
- 16:00Today's show is brought to you by Harbinger's Daily.
- 16:04World news biblically understood.
- 16:06Stay informed at Harbinger's Daily.com.
- 16:17So I also want to mention we have a new YouTube channel, friends.
- 16:21World View Matters, David Fierrazo, no spaces and follow us there.
- 16:26Thanks for sharing the podcast.
- 16:27So this is funny, Sam.
- 16:29I think it was just last week.
- 16:31I knew I was going to have you on the podcast again.
- 16:34And I don't know what channel I was watching, but I caught the movie again, Let There Be Light.
- 16:38And I was again just amazed by the acting great job on that movie.
- 16:46I just really love what you guys do, what you've always been a part of.
- 16:50Where can people other than going to sorbostudios.com and go to shop?
- 16:55Is your stuff on Amazon or where else can people watch and get your books and films?
- 17:00Well, the best place is always just go to the studio and do sign up for our newsletters
- 17:05because that's the way we stay in touch with people now.
- 17:08The Facebook took my husband down for saying truth, although it was controversial at the
- 17:15time.
- 17:16It has now been proven to be true.
- 17:17They really should just reinstate him, but we stay in touch with people via our newsletter,
- 17:22our email newsletter.
- 17:24And so we invite everybody to sign up for free.
- 17:27And all of our products are there on sorbostudios.com.
- 17:31We offer free shipping.
- 17:33So that's really the best place to go.
- 17:36You have in Shadowband on YouTube.
- 17:37They didn't take my account down my profile, but on YouTube, not on Facebook, I'm Shadowband.
- 17:43YouTube, they've deleted some of my videos.
- 17:45I still love my channel, though.
- 17:47But I have the audacity to talk about Charlie Vector, David, one-niner.
- 17:54And anyway, so I got in trouble.
- 17:56So we try to be careful now we shouldn't.
- 17:58Maybe things will improve now with the Trump administration, but I'm glad they did an
- 18:02executive order on censorship.
- 18:04In fact, let's go there briefly.
- 18:06We're running out of time already.
- 18:08Your thoughts, I know I love Kevin's voice and he's been so vocal and for years.
- 18:14Thank God, outspoken as a Christian.
- 18:16We have a gasp talking about political issues, right?
- 18:21As a Christian.
- 18:22But what are your thoughts and we'll talk in detail about one or two of Trump's executive
- 18:25orders and just what he's doing already weeks into the new administration?
- 18:30Well, I think he's done a remarkable job of creating morning in America again.
- 18:37And so these executive orders are certainly setting the tone.
- 18:41And I hope that they will be more active than just an executive order because you can
- 18:48order people to do things.
- 18:51But for instance, in our schools, no more DEI, no more CRT.
- 18:55But when you've already baked it in and the educators, I shouldn't call them that, the
- 19:00teachers themselves believe in this ideology, they will be teaching the ideology.
- 19:05And I want to point out to people that we used to have something called honor and integrity.
- 19:11And so you wouldn't compromise your honor and integrity to tow the line just for a paycheck.
- 19:17But that's where we are today.
- 19:18So the number of people on movie sets or on speaking engagements or whatever, the number
- 19:24of people who come up to Kevin and say, hey, thanks for your voice, man.
- 19:27I couldn't do it because I'd lose my job.
- 19:30And you go, maybe you should, like maybe you should stand up for yourself and not be
- 19:36so cowed.
- 19:37How do you face yourself in the mirror when you know that you're basically a hypocrite
- 19:42where you know that you believe something and fervently because they believe it, but
- 19:47they're not willing to defend it.
- 19:50I don't know.
- 19:51I'm glad you made the point that an executive order does not change the teachers' worldviews.
- 19:57They didn't have a come to Jesus moment.
- 20:00You know, they're going to, they're going to double down.
- 20:02They're going to do it in secret, right?
- 20:05They've already started their, they, they, it's no longer called DEI, it'll be called
- 20:10something like, you know, equitable reparations or I don't know what they'll figure out some
- 20:16weird term for it.
- 20:17And they will implement it anyway.
- 20:19And so some of the stuff that Trump is doing, I understand, is defunding something, just
- 20:24saying, okay, you know what, these, this has to go and that has to go, I love the fact
- 20:29that he's requiring federal employees to show up for work, like it's just sort of cheating
- 20:34if you're not showing up for work.
- 20:36He's also going and doing research to see if you've collected a paycheck from another
- 20:40source because you should not be earning.
- 20:42If you're working full time for the government, you should not have a second job.
- 20:46And, and here's the thing, like I, I think there might be some people maybe who like
- 20:52took a part time job on Friday nights because they like the karaoke bar and so they work
- 20:57there, but you'll be able to see from the amount of money or from the number of hours
- 21:02or whatever and, and they should get some discernment.
- 21:06But seriously, yeah, I mean, I know for years we've had teachers that have been accused
- 21:12of some kind of mis, misdeed and they get put in rubber rooms because they're not allowed
- 21:16to be fired.
- 21:18And then in the rubber room, there was one case I remember about a decade ago, this
- 21:22teacher was making six figures doing real estate transactions.
- 21:26Wow.
- 21:27Working full time as a realtor from his rubber room inside the school building.
- 21:32Getting paid and full benefit is really astounding.
- 21:36So Sam, before we run out of time, by the way, I wanted direct people to lips of TikTok.
- 21:42This is good information on, if you have any concerns about your kids in the government
- 21:46run schools, follow them and all my goodness, they just did this one here, Trump ends
- 21:51radical indoctrination in the schools, well, it's a star and it's like he's trying to call
- 21:57attention to it.
- 21:58It's not going to end it.
- 21:59I appreciate lips of TikTok, you can just some of the radical transgender ideology that
- 22:04some of these teachers are pushing gets exposed and anyway, let's talk about your op-ed
- 22:14at Washington Times on school choice.
- 22:16And I want to quote you and you can continue, Sam, school choice is being sold as an opportunity
- 22:21for parents to reclaim control over their children's education.
- 22:26No questions asked, but we've already seen that as it's being implemented, these promises
- 22:32are rescinded.
- 22:33And then you say it's time to acknowledge that what's being promoted as choice is actually
- 22:37a gateway to single payer schooling where government funds things and you can just share
- 22:44a little bit more about that as we're running out of time.
- 22:46Just what are some of the bullet points that we need to be aware of?
- 22:48Well, let's just be aware that when the government sends you a check, the strings attached,
- 22:53they want to know where that money is going.
- 22:55And in a lot of these cases, it goes into an account that is supervised by the government
- 23:00and then you are permitted to withdraw as you go, but only for approved purchases.
- 23:05In the state of Florida, the first year, most everything was approved.
- 23:09So people were like, yeah, this works pretty well.
- 23:11The second year, they're cracking down on what's approved and also they're requiring
- 23:16testing, which they didn't require the first year.
- 23:19And the problem is the addiction.
- 23:21And in fact, I have another article coming out on Friday talking about the addiction of
- 23:26government that they, because they control the schools, they trained us to think government's
- 23:33good.
- 23:34And I don't, I'm not saying that it's like on, like, there's some nefarious scheme in
- 23:38the background.
- 23:39I'm saying this is the natural order of things.
- 23:42But the moment the government starts to fund it, first of all, prices will skyrocket,
- 23:47which means the dollars are then inflated, which means you're not actually getting the
- 23:51money that you think you're getting because everything's going to cost you more.
- 23:55But also the moment that that money enters, it, it, it perverts that space.
- 24:01So the lovely Christian schools that will be taking government dollars because of school
- 24:05choice.
- 24:06Now, when the government comes in and says, oh, but lovely Christian schools, you must
- 24:10teach the Quran also.
- 24:14They're out of luck.
- 24:15And what are they going to do?
- 24:16Lay off all their lovely young teachers that, that have just gotten jobs and everybody's
- 24:20working and they're so happy, okay, government will teach the Quran.
- 24:24All right.
- 24:25But then you can't teach the Bible.
- 24:26Mm-hmm.
- 24:27I mean, it's, it's a, it's a gateway to basically full government control of education.
- 24:33Yeah.
- 24:34And I want to go ahead.
- 24:35I want to, I want to emphasize that you're not exaggerating.
- 24:41You mentioned Christian schools and people have this idea that, well, Christian schools
- 24:45are kind of, they're teaching the Bible and, and all the curriculum is, would be approved
- 24:49by Christian parents.
- 24:50I think we've got so much waking up to do Sam, but that's why your book is so important.
- 24:56Jeff, bring up the book cover one more time so people can get a good look at that parents
- 25:00guy.
- 25:01And let me just say, education should be about family.
- 25:04It should be you, you will form the best relationships with the best people you will
- 25:08know if you help them become themselves through educating them yourself.
- 25:14This is what I discovered and I'm so thrilled that I did and that's what I want to share
- 25:18with parents.
- 25:19Do it for yourself.
- 25:20Do it for your children and, uh, and understand that you are more than capable.
- 25:25So I would guess that your kids probably didn't end up on one of the Ivy League school
- 25:30campuses protesting Israel and I'm, I'm creating for Hamas or the Palestinians, isn't that
- 25:36sad though?
- 25:37That after October 7th, that was eye opening, wasn't it?
- 25:40Yeah.
- 25:41Well, you know, kids have been stolen away from their parents and, and told their parents
- 25:46were dumb because their parents sent them to school, uh, to learn so clearly their parents
- 25:52have nothing to give them, nothing to offer.
- 25:55And it's ridiculous and I, I challenge the entire paradigm, I challenge the teacher
- 25:59paradigm.
- 26:00Uh, I challenge it all and that's what I've done in my book.
- 26:03So get my book, Plaren's Guide to Educate is, sorry, what is it?
- 26:07Parents Guide to Home School making education easy and fun.
- 26:11Yes.
- 26:12And education on your inner book is not an air quotes.
- 26:15Um, so yeah, we, um, it's, it's, it's just amazing what we've seen with some of these
- 26:20kids.
- 26:21They can't explain why they're defending Hamas or the Palestinians or they're against
- 26:25Israel.
- 26:26They can't explain that.
- 26:27But sadly, Sam, I see a little bit of that in the church as well.
- 26:31There are Christians who don't know why they want to play both sides, but you can't
- 26:35from the biblical perspective, um, sorbosstudios.com, I see that you've got something, go, you're
