Intro: Welcome to the Homemakers Podcast. Join Anna and Emily as they talk all things theology and womanhood.
• 0:15
Emily: Hello, everybody, and welcome to another Homemakers podcast. I'm Emily.
• 0:21
Anna: And I'm Anna. And we're back after
• 0:23
Emily: a long, long, long break.
• 0:25
  Anna: Yes. Yes. Yes.
• 0:26
Emily: You listeners have not had a break, but we have not sat down and chatted since December.
• 0:32
  Anna: It's been so long.
• 0:33
Emily: It's been so long. I've missed my friend.
• 0:36
Anna: I've missed you too. Life has been crazy. Life has been crazy. There was holidays and then really just the the morning sickness kicked my butt. I mean, truly, like Yeah.
• 0:46
Had no idea it was all day and just never ending and that was we're getting better. So we're good. Yeah. You
• 0:54
Emily: know? And how far along sixteen weeks? Sixteen weeks. Yes. Yes.
• 0:58
  Getting close to
• 0:59
Anna: his It was funny is, I mean, I have a little like app that tells me what size he is each week. Uh-huh. Last week was like a pear, right? And then this week it's an avocado. I'm like, that seems smaller.
• 1:17
That seems, yeah, like at least the avocados I buy, like they're pretty small and maybe the pears that we get are just massive pears. I don't know. Right. But also it's like, that doesn't seem right.
• 1:29
Emily: This seems backwards. It does. Does. Yeah. That is confusing because I would think a pair Most of them are bigger.
• 1:42
Anna: Yeah. Very confusing. It is very confusing. I I I don't know. Whatever.
• 1:49
It it's my stomach's hard now. I've never had abs. Let me throw that
• 1:53
  Emily: out there.
• 1:54
Anna: So I've never had a hard stomach before. Like, I'm sure it's nice, but now it is. And it's weird. It's like, oh, there is something
• 2:02
Emily: in there. Is. Are you feeling any flutters or anything like that?
• 2:07
Anna: Not yet. Okay. So there was one moment this past week that I like sat down and I was still and I thought I felt something, I don't know. Don't know what you're reading. Have done this before?
• 2:19
No, no. But I'm excited to feel them. I know.
• 2:23
Emily: We'll see. It's so cool. It's so cool. It's so bizarre.
• 2:27
  Anna: It's already been
• 2:28
Emily: so bizarre. We tried to record a few weeks ago and you were too sick and then we tried to record again but I didn't have the computer and recording equipment and my driveway was covered in ice. Yep. And I said, yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen today. I'm not going all the way to the church to get this stuff.
• 2:49
  So we finally did it.
• 2:51
Anna: We did, we did. And it's been so long. I know, I know. Yeah, but happy to be here. I am too.
• 2:58
Okay, so what I wanted to tell you is, I would like to just make this statement in general. First off, I am not typically on social media hardly ever. However, with being so sick, I have been watching Instagram reels because they have helped distract me. Well, else do you do? You know?
• 3:21
Yeah. I have done so much these last few weeks that I have really never done in my life just to survive. You're allowed. Yeah. I've gotten a lot of good books read, is nice.
• 3:32
Oh, okay. But I've been watching a lot more Instagram reels and I don't know that I ever really did before. I'd check the ones that like my mom or brother would send me, the funny ones. I like them, that was about it. Anyway, one thing I saw and it made me think of the mom setting the tone of the household and it was really sweet.
• 3:55
  I should have saved it. I didn't. I'm not sure I know.
• 3:57
Emily: I don't know how to do that. No. I don't know how to do that.
• 3:59
Anna: So it was a video of this mom and probably a one year old baby. He was eating at his high chair. Right? And he was just eating normally pretty content with himself. She decided to turn on some music and start dancing.
• 4:14
And like his face gets so bright and he gets so happy and he starts dancing. But it made me think of our episode of like mom set the tone for the It was just such a sweet little moment. He was so excited. He ended up putting his hands in the air and even sort of wiggle like it a little bit. And I was like, oh,
• 4:31
Emily: that's so sweet. That is so sweet. Think that's so important to see because we forget that the little ones are watching and they imitate what you're doing and they're very influenced by your behavior and your attitude. Way more
• 4:50
  Anna: than you think.
• 4:50
Emily: Yes. And I like that because so one thing I've been thinking of is just remembering to enjoy the time with the kids, because you'll find out very soon that life everybody will tell you this. Life speeds up when you have kids, and it's so true. It's weird to think that I have a 10 and 12 year old. I'm like, I feel like they were just born.
• 5:18
Yeah. But now I know like my time is dwindling. So I'm like, let me just enjoy the moments. And that's that's what that is, is that mom was just enjoying the moment with her kid and making memories.
• 5:30
  Anna: A happy moment.
• 5:31
Emily: Yes. I love It was sweet. Yes.
• 5:36
Anna: So today, our topic. Yes.
• 5:40
Emily: And it's a big one.
• 5:42
Anna: It's a very big one. And it's actually, and it shouldn't be. It is controversial, especially in the Christian community. And it shouldn't be. Again, it should not be.
• 5:51
Emily: I think it's funny that it's controversial. I mean, I I I get that in some ways. And so people shy away from talking about this topic. And because it's controversial, we probably need to be talking about it more. Yeah.
• 6:09
  Anna: Yes, definitely. Yes.
• 6:11
Emily: So we are talking about submission. If that made you feel a little, hopefully by the end of this episode and maybe the next, we're gonna see how long we go into this, but I think, we may end up with two episodes from it, but hopefully by the end of it, you won't feel, If you do, you just
• 6:35
Anna: go read your bible some. I mean,
• 6:37
  Emily: I don't
• 6:37
Anna: know what else to tell you.
• 6:38
Emily: Right. Well, it's amazing how many verses actually touch on the woman's role of submission. When you're when you're looking through and studying about womanhood and wives, submission is the theme that comes up the most. Yeah. So it's important.
• 6:56
So I have a definition because y'all know I like definitions, but submission is putting someone else and their needs above yourself. And it's not for your personal benefit, but we do it unto the Lord. Mhmm. And so the person, that we are to submit to is our husbands. And so we are to put him and his needs above our own, which How dare you?
• 7:23
In a selfish society. How do you actually live that out?
• 7:29
Anna: How do you What does that look like day to day? Yeah.
• 7:32
Emily: This is one of the topics that I do wish I had known about sixteen years ago when I got married.
• 7:39
  Anna: Yeah.
• 7:40
Emily: And it is one of the things that I have spent probably the most time studying and learning since we have been married. But I read this quote and I kind of have made it my own words, so it's not a quote exactly. But it came from another podcast, but she made the point of mentioning that it is more important that we are shaped by our godly husbands than other women in our church, the podcast we listen to, and even our elders. Which that one to me made me stop and think for a minute because I'm like, I know we're supposed to submit to our elders, but number one goes our husband. Yeah.
• 8:21
And he is responsible for leading us and our families. So you may have something in church that your elder may be telling you to do, to look out, to read, to study, and your husband says, no. I don't agree with that. I don't like that pastor. I don't like that podcast.
• 8:40
Yeah. No. And and your responsibility is to listen to your husband. So I thought that was a good quote.
• 8:45
Anna: Yeah. Because he is That's nice.
• 8:47
Emily: He is the one who it's his duty to shape you. I into a godly
• 8:55
Anna: feel like, I have learned so much from my husband, I have grown and been sanctified so much because of my husband. Yes. You know? Marriage is sanctifying. Yes it is.
• 9:08
That's for sure. But a lot of it is from Him, honestly. Yeah. Yeah. I agree.
• 9:16
  So we're just going
• 9:16
Emily: to work through the Bible verses that mention submission. And our first one is Ephesians five twenty two, and it just says, wife, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord. And one of the points in my John MacArthur study bible,
• 9:36
Anna: it says, this is a command. Yeah. This isn't a just do it if you feel like. Yeah. Like, no.
• 9:41
  Emily: No. No. No. No.
• 9:42
Anna: This is Submit a to your own husbands
• 9:45
Emily: as to the If we Period. Do not do a command, it is sin. Yeah. And the other point he brought up is it doesn't have any qualifiers. If your husband tells you all the nice and pretty things to do, yay, you get to do it.
• 10:00
But if he tells you to scrub the bathroom floors and you don't wanna do it, no? Okay. Cool. You don't have to. You don't have to.
• 10:07
So I liked that. It doesn't have qualifiers, meaning that a wife is to obey regardless of her husband and his behavior because we're doing it unto the Lord. Not doing it for his worthiness, our husband's worthiness. We're doing it because God is worthy, and he has created the relationship of husband and wife. One of the things that I was going to bring up are three different roles that husbands do, and then we're gonna just work through each and of what does that submission look like.
• 10:45
So a husband is a protector, provider, and leader. So protector is he is to protect you from danger.
• 10:56
Anna: Yes. So interestingly, my husband was out of town recently, he is back now. Yay! Very excited. It's always so hard when they're gone.
• 11:06
It is hard, it is hard. But I can tell you that what is so funny and it's not funny, like this is, we were designed specifically by God, right? But while he was gone, I don't I don't feel as safe as at home when you he's know? Like, he has walked me through gun safety.
• 11:29
Emily: I know. We have one just in case.
• 11:30
Anna: Yes. So like, know worst case scenario, if someone breaks it in the middle of the night, I would be okay. Yeah. You know, but I feel so much better when he's home. I feel so much safer when he's home.
• 11:44
  Yes. You know,
• 11:45
Emily: and it's just funny. Yeah. Well, I never sleep well when Chris is out of town. I mean, can sleep, but I feel like I don't get that deep sleep because now I'm the protector when you sit out of And my yes, I know to do all the things and yeah, I can point and aim, but like, I don't want to. When we talk about protector too, he's also physically to protect us, but also to protect us from false doctrine Mhmm.
• 12:22
Which I think is a big submission role. Mhmm. We as women and a lot of the women I know have a lot more time at home to study, listen to podcasts, read books than our husbands do.
• 12:41
  Anna: Yeah.
• 12:41
Emily: I know my husband's very limited on I can listen to an audiobook and in the car, and that's about it. Yep. So I have a lot more time and a lot more influence of outside people than he does, but it is still his role to know what I'm listening to, what I'm reading, who I'm gathering information from Mhmm. And to protect me if he says, that doesn't sound so good. Let me, maybe I need to listen to that.
• 13:11
  Yeah.
• 13:12
Anna: That's interesting. Absolutely, totally agree. It is one of those things of like, if I find somebody on line, I like to look them up but I also like to send it to Alex to look up too of like, hey like what do you think of this person? You know like, yeah, what do you think? Or I've had women ask me about people before and specifically people they found online or like quote unquote Christian influencers online.
• 13:44
I'll send it to my husband, know, because I am going to look up this person, but I also want his feedback too. Right. Because not only is he my spiritual leader, but I don't want to be responsible for leading somebody else astray and I trust him. Yes. But yeah, it is, it's funny of, I could not imagine trying to almost keep a secret from him about anything first off, but secondly of like what I'm reading.
• 14:12
Right. I want to talk to him about it. And I do want him to know the podcasts I'm listening to or things I'm reading about.
• 14:21
Emily: And I think I think that's one of the important things is when you know a husband's role as protector to do that, to have those conversations. Hey. This is what I heard in this podcast today. This is what I'm reading in this book. This is, the pastor I'm following or whatever the case is so that he knows what input you're receiving.
• 14:41
  Anna: Yeah.
• 14:42
Emily: And so if he hears something that he thinks is a little off, he can go do research. And if he comes back to you and says, this is not something or someone you need to be following, guess what? You're done. You don't revisit No. You that podcast know?
• 14:57
  Again.
• 14:59
Anna: You could ask him his reasons, by all means talk to your husband. Absolutely. But like don't sit there and be like, well I'm gonna do it anyway because I like this person so who cares? Yeah. No that's awful, don't do that.
• 15:11
Emily: No, I think those are the times where our pride can well up a little inside of us and say, well, I really like I can get, what's the phrase, like where you chew the meat and spit out the bones, like I can take the good from the person and spit out the bad. You can't. I don't how it works. We as much as we don't wanna admit it, we women are easily deceived. Yeah.
• 15:38
There is a reason why false teachers are more likely to go after women, and it's been shown and proven that they write books specific to women. That is their audience that they're going to. Why? Because we're easily deceived. Yeah.
• 15:53
And we need to depend on our husbands as that protector and submit to him when he says, no, you're not going to listen to this podcast again.
• 16:07
Anna: You're not going to read this book. Totally, I mean, yes related, but not what we talked about. Yeah. It was that woman recently, she was kind of Mormon but then got into like a cult off of Mormonism. Her and her husband were having problems.
• 16:26
She started going to this therapist, quote unquote Christian therapist. And her and her husband ended up not divorcing, but like separating for a time. Mhmm. And then it got bad. And she ended up, like, this therapist lady keeping her kids in the house and, like Oh.
• 16:48
  Do you do you
• 16:49
Emily: know I read that was, like, Jody. Yes. I can't remember.
• 16:53
Anna: There's a show about or a documentary about it. I haven't seen it. It's called Evil Influencer though.
• 16:58
Emily: It was a very interesting audiobook.
• 17:01
Anna: Name is like Frank or Frankie. Yes.
• 17:04
Emily: I think that's the book that I read, I'm trying to look it
• 17:07
Anna: up now. But I think what's really interesting is the worst of the abuse, bad, treating the children bad, all that happened once her husband left. Yes. Because then she knew she could get away with it, right? Like essentially it was this
• 17:24
Emily: therapist manipulating her. It was, Sherry Frankie is the one that wrote the book and I don't know the woman's name right off of it, but it's The House of My Mother was the book that I listened to. And you're right. As soon as I mean, the husband didn't have much influence or say so. He was very deceived himself.
• 17:46
He was. But she's the one that brought the deception into the household and you know we don't know the full story but did he ever say Jody Hildebrandt. Yes. Jody Hildebrandt. Yes.
• 17:57
Did he ever look at her and say what you're involved in is wrong and you need to stop? Because he needed to.
• 18:05
Anna: He needed to. Yes. Yes. And it's just really interesting of like, well, the abuse got to that point where how they found out was like the kid escaped. Yeah.
• 18:19
Yeah. He escaped and like went to a neighbor's ring doorbell and rang it and he had like cuffs around his It feet still or was, I mean, crazy, sad. But it they were already going into a cult so it was not good. Right. But then they separated and the worst came when the husband wasn't there.
• 18:38
Right. You know, he wasn't there to protect his wife because his wife mean, the funny thing about cults is that you are slowly kind of fed into it and you slowly think you're doing the right thing. Yes. And she really thought that her kids had demon energy in them and the only way to get it out was to hurt them. You know?
• 18:58
And that is one of those times it's like, you need a husband to step up and say no, no, no. Actually, my kids don't need to be around this kind of behavior and my wife does not need to be talking or listening or doing anything related
• 19:13
Emily: to ever this again, period. Think after I listened to that book, told my husband, we need strong men and submissive women. Yes. Just is it. We need strong godly men who will stand up for truth, will stand up for biblical truth, and we need women who will listen, are not too proud to say, well, but it's not that bad, but deception is a slow fade.
• 19:46
It is. And it does start with something that sounds pretty good. Yeah. Very close to the truth,
• 19:53
Anna: Hits your heart, pulls on those heartstrings. Yes. And you're like, oh, well, you know, I trust them. Like, they had this sob story and like, it really bought me and I really trust Right.
• 20:04
Emily: Well, we've talked before about how women are emotional. So we think first with our emotions, whereas men are not doing that. So they're gonna have a clear, be able to see truth a little bit more clearly than we are. Yeah. And it's okay to say that because it allows us to know that and to fight those emotions and not to be easily deceived.
• 20:28
Yeah. The next thing that our husband is, is he is our provider. And, you know, I know not everybody stays at home and the husband works, but he is the main provider for the family financially, spiritually. And so her role, a wife's role, is to submit to that, meaning you're not overspending. Mhmm.
• 21:02
You're using his resources wisely. The other day on She Allegiance, which is one of my favorite podcasts.
• 21:12
Anna: We highly recommend. So recommend.
• 21:16
Emily: Summer said something along the lines of buying homeschool curriculum, she was saying sometimes you have to buy some and try it and it doesn't work, and so get new curriculum. She's like, but don't overspend your husband's money all the curriculum. And I love how she said your husband's money. Yeah. Because that's not how culturally we think about it.
• 21:41
It's our money. I had a boss, my first job as a nurse. I got my very first race and my boss pulled me into her office and said, Okay, you've been through orientation, you're gonna get your first race, and I know you're a newlywed, so here's what I suggest. I suggest you open up a bank account, don't tell your husband about this raise, and you keep that extra for yourself for, you know, comfort just in case. What?
• 22:18
  What? Yeah. Terrible advice.
• 22:22
Anna: Terrible Let's just keep secrets from our husband. That's a healthy thing to do.
• 22:26
Emily: Just I was so young and naive. I just looked at her. I don't think I even said anything. Was just like, okay, thank you. And I walked out
• 22:32
Anna: the door. So I thought you were going in a different direction because I have gotten advice, similar, not, not quite that of essentially like when you get married, keep your bank account separate. Right? Right. But then have a shared bank account where you put money in each month to pay the bills.
• 22:53
Yes. Which is also odd. Like it's fine. Like but I feel like I would still tell my husband what money I have and he would tell me what money he has, you know, like, because we both do work right now, but he works a lot longer and harder than I do and he makes more money than And I the plan soon is to be at home full time, you know. But that's crazy to me.
• 23:20
I could not imagine. I couldn't imagine keeping Getting crazy and keeping it from my, that's funny. Because anytime I get like a Christmas bonus or into the year bonus, I'm like, woo, look, let's go, let's Let's go do me and you. Yeah, like together, let's go to the movies, let I me make you
• 23:36
Emily: know, I mean, when we get married, we are one flesh, and so nothing is separate anymore. Well, the world would tell you to keep separate bank accounts or, yes, maybe keep a little cushiony bank account for the just in case. Just in case. That is not you are not being one. I I don't think anyone hitting.
• 24:02
No. I don't think anybody could make a a great argument for two bank accounts. Because most of the time when you do see that, it's because, oh, well, wife's an over spender. You need to be better with your money. You need to be good
• 24:15
Anna: at managing your money. A responsible adult, like grow up a little bit. Yes. Also another side note here, me and Alex have had this discussion many a times of like, prenups are wild. You're essentially like, when we're So to get when this finally doesn't work out, I just want you to know like you keep this and I keep this and you keep this and I keep this and it's like, no no, you should go into a marriage saying there is no what ifs.
• 24:43
No. There's none of that, like we are in this together.
• 24:47
Emily: Is no one foot in, one foot out the door just waiting because I know Another I get the thing that a wife should be reliable with is his home. If he is the provider, she has a duty to take care of the home, and we just did the whole episode of the wife setting the tone of the house, and so you can go back and listen to that, it's the previous episode. But I think that's one of the ways that in submission, and we talked about this on that episode, in submission of, okay, what does he want me to do in the home? Mhmm. And what are the things that is important for him for me to accomplish each day?
• 25:33
Is it does he not care about me having food on the table when he gets home, but he cares more about having a clean house or vice versa, or he cares about both? So as him being the provider, those are the things that we as women can do. And the last one is we had protector, provider, and your husband is a leader, which we've hit on with him being the protector. But as the leader, go to him for instruction and advice. He's your number one.
• 26:05
  So yes, absolutely. I have,
• 26:08
Anna: I guess, little personal story to add in. So we mentioned I'm pregnant. I've been so sick, so sick. Lots of things like I just, I don't know, didn't know I'd be that sick. Yeah.
• 26:23
And not all women are this sick and I'm a little jealous of you, but I'm happy for you too. So I do work for now, right? But my husband does work more. He works longer hours, he makes more money. So it has been my job to do laundry and dishes.
• 26:45
Right. And I also like cooking and that's also usually my responsibility too. Now we have a smoker and sometimes he likes to smoke meat, that's he loves that, that's his job, that's fine, you know? Now I
• 26:57
Emily: think that is very much a man's job and I'm cool with Really, allowing
• 27:01
Anna: like smoking like that is Yes. Because I've been so sick, I have not been able to do as much of that. Now that I'm at sixteen weeks and things are finally fading, I am back to doing laundry and dishes. However, for the last two months, almost three months now, my husband has stepped up and been the leader of the house while I am on the or couch or in the in the bathroom throwing up, has done laundry and dishes and I never had to ask him to because he knew of like, okay, Anna is throwing up her guts. Yeah.
• 27:39
Emily: Right? Like It has to get done.
• 27:41
Anna: I am the man of the house. It has to get done. Yeah. You know, and I think that is also part of being a leader of, there are times in life where you're not gonna be able to do everything you are used or to you know, the system you have set up. But part of your husband's job is to
• 28:02
Emily: pick up the slack. Exactly. Know? And they serve by or they lead by serving. Yeah.
• 28:09
You know, when you think of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples, like that is a husband's role, is to come in and how can I serve? How can I, Where do you need the help? I think that's a perfect example of a leadership. Yes. I think one of the best things that we can do as women is know and love and I guess know and love and honor and respect our husband's leadership enough that I never would come to the table and say, this is the hill I'm willing to die on.
• 28:53
This is I I will not submit to you in this area. Yeah. Everything else I'm cool with, but there's this one area.
• 29:03
  Anna: This is
• 29:03
Emily: it. And and I think that area typically comes with kids. And I will tell you, it's hard. I have had plenty of moments where, Chris would be disciplining one of the kids and mama bear rears up and is like, he is not going to spank my kid. That's funny.
• 29:31
And you have to kill that thought because it's not No, his role is the leader. So he is the primary disciplinarian of the family. But also if that's the chosen discipline action that he is going to do right then, mama bear doesn't have any say so. Nope, nope. I don't have, but that's yeah.
• 29:55
Anna: But it is still like you said before a matter of almost like swallowing that pride. Yes. You know, and it's hard to, and discipline is such a funny one in general
• 30:05
  Emily: because discipline
• 30:06
Anna: is good for children and it's good for us actually. We need it. But a lot of times in the moment of it, it's like, no.

Emily: Is, the mama bear thing is a true and a real thing and it is something that you have to fight because our duty or our natural role as women is to protect our kids. But I'm I'm not protecting them in those moments when I was so mad at my husband. How dare he spank them? And I can hear my baby crying and I just wanna hug them and tell them I'm sorry. That's funny.
• 30:41
But that was one of the biggest struggles in submission for me was those moments of, okay, I can't die
• 30:48
Anna: on this hill. This is my husband and his leadership role and he is wise in doing it and I need to step back allow this. And as a preschool teacher, let me just tell all you moms out there, there is a huge difference in kids at school. And you don't, I don't know, I don't ever have to ask a parent and I have in the past, it's like, just curious, what do you do for discipline at home, right? You know the kids who get spanked in and the kids who don't.
• 31:20
Yeah. You know the kids who get disciplined and the kids who don't. Yeah. Because the kids who don't are miserable to be around. They're little terrors.
• 31:27
Yes. Like they're not fun. But I feel like there's a lot of those moments of like, your husband, the leadership does fall on him and a lot of the not fun jobs fall on him. Right. It's not fun to spank kids.
• 31:42
No. It's not fun to be the disciplinary, but like, that is part of his role as leader of the It is. You know? It is. And it comes it comes with weight.
• 31:52
It's not just a fun job, you know? And you
• 31:54
Emily: can tell. You can tell that it's a God given design because kids react differently to a man's voice Yes. Than to a female's voice. Yeah. It's amazing.
• 32:06
I could say the same things to the kids as Chris can in a same tone or even a harsher tone, and the response is completely different. Yep. And so, I mean, that's just that is one of the God given roles. We're gonna wrap this up in just a couple minutes, but I wanted to stop or stop. I don't want to stop this episode without talking about how we should honor our husbands.
• 32:39
Part of submission would be, and it's a difficult one as women because we like to gather around with our girlfriends and start chatting. And I have found and I have been in many situations where women just want to bad mouth their husbands. Yes. We must stop that. Immediately.
• 33:01
Immediately. Immediately. We as Christian women cannot do that. I don't care if your husband is doing things that are dishonoring. That needs to be taken to an elder, not your girlfriend.
• 33:17
So when we speak about our husbands, and this is honestly one of the things that I have learned so much from you about is I have never, y'all, I have never heard my friend Anna say anything bad about her husband.
• 33:35
  Anna: And you never will.
• 33:36
Emily: And I never will. And honestly, it's because I think she really doesn't see anything bad in him. She loves
• 33:43
  Anna: I love him him
• 33:45
Emily: Loves him so much. But that is an honorable quality and it has taught me so much because I do tend to run my mouth and I have been in the group of girls where I have said things about my husband and I have not done that in a long time because I've learned I don't speak ill of my husband at all No. Anymore. No. Why?
• 34:07
  Why would we want
• 34:08
Anna: There's to no benefit to it. Why would
• 34:10
Emily: I wanna dishonor my husband in front of my friends, in front of my parents, in front of my kids, especially the way that you speak about your husband is how other people are going to treat him.
• 34:26
Anna: Yeah. And it really Mhmm. So so many things. Right? It's really interesting because there are so many women who get together and complain about their husbands and I have heard it, I've not participated but have heard it.
• 34:46
Yeah. You know? Yeah. And I guess in my head, all I'm thinking about is when it happens is like, man, they must really hate their husband. I know.
• 34:53
Like they must, their husband must really suck. Honestly, he must be the crappiest husband in the world they must really hate him, I you don't feel that way about my husband. Think it's wonderful. Even then, like there are things that, I mean, we all have pet peeves, know, there are things that I do that drive him crazy and things that he does that drive me crazy, it happens. Sure.
• 35:19
That's life. It's life when you live with somebody, you But like I wouldn't want to talk about that with anybody but him, you know, of like, no, if I'm having a problem with him, I'm going to talk to him. Exactly.
• 35:32
Emily: And that's that's the biblical approach. That's our Matthew 18 approach. Yeah. Right? Your husband, just like anybody else in Matthew 18, your husband sins against you, you go to that person.
• 35:44
He doesn't listen to you, you bring two or three more, your elders. And then if he doesn't, and it's a sin that needs to be taken to the church, again, with your elders' guidance, you take it that way. But most of the time when you hear women sitting around talking ill about their husbands, it's just gossip and slander, and it's just because we wanna feel sorry for ourselves or we want to feel seen by our friends, whatever the case is.
• 36:15
Anna: We're just going to participate. Yes. Yeah. Have more to say on that when we get to the Rejoice episode. Oh yes, can't wait for Yes, that
• 36:25
Emily: I can't wait for that one. We have one coming up that I will tell you I've learned the most through that episode. So I'm excited for that one too. Do you have anything else? No.
• 36:38
  We can
• 36:39
Anna: wrap up here and we'll have a part two, I guess.
