- 0:38Speaker 1: we move on, though, Phil tell us about your outfit
- 0:42Speaker 1: over there.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd love to Hey Spencer really quick. I watched
- 0:45Speaker 2: you do this for a while and I've always wanted
- 0:46Speaker 2: to try something like this.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Say is it okay?
- 0:47Speaker 2: If I asked its like kind of like a preliminary
- 0:49Speaker 2: first question. Yeah, yeah, said okay, Okay, give me one
- 0:52Speaker 2: second here, Okay, I'm gonna cut to the cut to
- 0:54Speaker 2: the question scream I'm gonna go over here. All right,
- 0:58Speaker 2: Can you guys read that? Ok Lets say I'm gonna
- 0:59Speaker 2: read out for you. This great question was sent to
- 1:01Speaker 2: us by Phil the Engineer. If you have a question
- 1:03Speaker 2: that you think is right for media or trivia, Please
- 1:05Speaker 2: send it to Trivia at the medeater dot com. In
- 1:07Speaker 2: the past four and a half years that Phil has
- 1:09Speaker 2: worked a meat Eater, Inc. How many times has he
- 1:11Speaker 2: taken more than three consecutive days off.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Before before anyone answers For the people who can't see
- 1:18Speaker 1: Phil has a sun hat on, He's got a belly
- 1:21Speaker 1: shirt with a Hawaiian shirt open on top of it,
- 1:26Speaker 1: and sunglasses. I'm gonna say the answer, Phil is zero times.
- 1:31Speaker 1: You're right, Okay, good.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Job, And that's for I just also want to say,
- 1:34Speaker 2: mostly because Hr is here, that is.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Of no faults. That is of no faults a meat Eater, Inc.
- 1:40Speaker 3: That is mostly a me problem.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I'm kind of a control freak, much like our our
- 1:44Speaker 2: intrepid host over there. But I finally decided to schedule
- 1:48Speaker 2: a week off. Yeah, you know, I had got of
- 1:50Speaker 2: a busy summer. I sent Spencer the the the iCal
- 1:56Speaker 2: invite and he immediately shot back saying, oh shit, oh no, oh.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Are you sure?
- 2:01Speaker 2: Is this the only time that you can do this?
- 2:03Speaker 2: And I said the same thing, Well, yeah, I'd rather
- 2:05Speaker 2: not come in during this week. I'm finally taking a vacation,
- 2:08Speaker 2: and Spencer said, I'm really sorry, but we have to
- 2:11Speaker 2: do this. It's it's it's tournament time. So so here
- 2:14Speaker 2: we are. I'm in vacation mode. That's that's what this is.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I've got my my Star Wars tiki mug clearance rack
- 2:22Speaker 2: stuff off target I bought yesterday just for this. Okay,
- 2:25Speaker 2: So anyway, that's that's where I'm at right now, and
- 2:28Speaker 2: I'm giving you a hard time.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I like being here.
- 2:32Speaker 2: The only reason I said yes is because I like
- 2:33Speaker 2: Spencer and I like tripping even more.
- 2:36Speaker 3: But you know I'm off the clock. Baby, you can't
- 2:38Speaker 3: stop me.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Well, thank you, Phil, you didn't have to sneak any
- 2:41Speaker 1: kind words in there. Very much appreciate what fuddyd so generous.
- 2:46Speaker 4: I hope you snuck a Pina Colada into a tik mug.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I was planning on it, Hansei, but honestly, I'm out
- 2:53Speaker 2: of my my good rum and so this is ice water.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And also it's also ten o'clock in the morning on
- 2:58Speaker 3: a Tuesday.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah, well, thank you for being here. Phil. Much appreciated.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And as Phil said, this isn't any regular old game
- 3:09Speaker 1: of meat Eater trivia. This is episode one of the
- 3:13Speaker 1: twenty twenty three Mead Eater Trivia tournament. There are four
- 3:17Speaker 1: episodes total, and by the end of the last one,
- 3:20Speaker 1: we'll have crowned a champion of Meet Eater Trivia for
- 3:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. How does the room feel about playing
- 3:26Speaker 1: with the stakes being so high?
- 3:29Speaker 5: Terrified?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yeah, I like that. We're number one number.
- 3:33Speaker 1: This is episode one. That's right, that's good.
- 3:36Speaker 6: Spencer. Tell us how the bracket's gonna work.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Bracket is gonna work. I'll explain it right here. Here's
- 3:41Speaker 1: how this is going to work. Episode one is a
- 3:44Speaker 1: qualifying round with seven players, two of which will move
- 3:48Speaker 1: on to the championship. Episode two is a qualifying round
- 3:51Speaker 1: with seven new players, two of which we'll also move
- 3:54Speaker 1: on to the championship. Episode three and four are the
- 3:57Speaker 1: championship rounds. Those will feature the four qualifying players as
- 4:02Speaker 1: well as our reigning champion, Brody Henderson, Steven Ranella, Giannis Putellis,
- 4:07Speaker 1: and Randall Williams. Brody, Steve, Giannison Randall have the most
- 4:11Speaker 1: victories in twenty twenty three, so they're getting an automatic
- 4:15Speaker 1: buy to the championship. Now you'll notice there are only
- 4:18Speaker 1: six players in this room. I said seven. Chester was
- 4:21Speaker 1: supposed to be here. He had to bail last minute,
- 4:24Speaker 1: something not his control. So I let him play and
- 4:26Speaker 1: we are going to keep score for Chester throughout the
- 4:29Speaker 1: game to see how he does. There's a chance that
- 4:32Speaker 1: he could make it to the championship.
- 4:35Speaker 7: Just to put in perspective, what's the winner again and
- 4:37Speaker 7: Bragg and Wrights or is there more to it the winner?
- 4:39Speaker 1: We will get to that at the end. I'll tell
- 4:42Speaker 1: you this part right now. We have a plaque that
- 4:45Speaker 1: is hanging up somewhere.
- 4:46Speaker 6: Is it in here?
- 4:47Speaker 5: Phil?
- 4:47Speaker 6: Do we know?
- 4:48Speaker 3: I think it's outside on one of the shows.
- 4:49Speaker 8: Okay, we have a.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Plaque that will make its way in here which has
- 4:53Speaker 1: the champion's name on it, and our reigning champion, Brody Henderson,
- 4:57Speaker 1: he's the only name on it right now. Now for
- 5:00Speaker 1: the start of the week, This week, we're looking at
- 5:02Speaker 1: the performance of players from last year's tournament qualifying episodes.
- 5:06Speaker 1: In the two play in shows from twenty twenty two,
- 5:09Speaker 1: are competitors averaged five point zero seven correct answers per game.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And here's our zero percenter question of the week, which
- 5:17Speaker 1: tests how much knowledge players have retained from previous shows.
- 5:21Speaker 1: This question was from a qualifying round last year. The
- 5:25Speaker 1: topic was biology, and nobody got it right. If you
- 5:28Speaker 1: know the answer just shouted out, how many legs does
- 5:31Speaker 1: a lobster have? Eight? Eight is not right? Six Nope,
- 5:37Speaker 1: that is not right either. Ten is correct. The correct
- 5:40Speaker 1: answer was ten. The incorrect answers given in that game
- 5:43Speaker 1: were eight, six, and five. Now, Phil, you noted afterwards
- 5:48Speaker 1: that there was some reason, maybe from finding Nemo, that
- 5:52Speaker 1: you knew that lobsters had ten legs.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Oh no, that was from Moana Molana.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Okay, there's a I'm actually not even sure exact which
- 6:00Speaker 2: animal he is, but he calls himself a decapod, which
- 6:02Speaker 2: is their ten critter.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Phil would have got that one right. Yeah, we have
- 6:08Speaker 1: some housekeeping. Actually, I take the back. We are skipping
- 6:10Speaker 1: the housekeeping portion of today's show. But there's one final
- 6:14Speaker 1: note about the tournament before we move on. Listeners with
- 6:17Speaker 1: a keen ear will notice that the questions from this
- 6:19Speaker 1: week and next week resemble each other because they're both
- 6:22Speaker 1: qualifying rounds. I designed the scripts to have similar themes
- 6:25Speaker 1: and difficulties. Now they shall be index fort. Today's round
- 6:29Speaker 1: is a three, so our winner should get six correct
- 6:31Speaker 1: answers and with that we're onto the game of trivia.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Play the drop, Phil, Look, I need to know what
- 6:40Speaker 1: I stay under wind everything? How's that?
- 6:44Speaker 6: Just tend to win everything?
- 6:47Speaker 8: So moody the lighting game on round one?
- 6:56Speaker 1: I love that, Phil? How'd you get that voice? Is
- 7:01Speaker 1: that your voice?
- 7:01Speaker 8: Right?
- 7:02Speaker 5: Oh?
- 7:02Speaker 9: No?
- 7:02Speaker 3: I you have like a little speech generator or something
- 7:05Speaker 3: like that.
- 7:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Question one the topic is public lands, and as always,
- 7:10Speaker 1: this will be multiple choice. Which of these animals is
- 7:15Speaker 1: not found in New Mexico's HeLa National Forest? Is it
- 7:20Speaker 1: a cou's deer mountain, goat, Canada goose or black bear?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Very good? Phil? Which of these animals is not found
- 7:34Speaker 1: in New Mexico's Hila National Forest? Cou's deer mountain goat,
- 7:41Speaker 1: Canada goose or black bear? Vacation mode Phil obviously spent
- 7:46Speaker 1: some of his vacation mode or some of his vacation
- 7:50Speaker 1: prepping little sounds and Easter eggs for our audience. Which
- 7:57Speaker 1: are the animals good? This is how fill vacations at home?
- 8:04Speaker 1: He was having a staycation.
- 8:05Speaker 2: He said, that's right, So that's why I've got cheap
- 8:07Speaker 2: cheap clothes, cheaper music, and.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Uh public lands. Which of these animals is not found
- 8:16Speaker 1: in New Mexico's Hila National Forest. COO's Deer Mountain, Goat Canada, Goose,
- 8:21Speaker 1: black Bear. It's anyone ben to the HeLa National Forest in.
- 8:24Speaker 5: This room many times?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Many times? Do you know this one?
- 8:29Speaker 5: I know what I've found there?
- 8:30Speaker 1: Okay, you've seen some of the things in some of
- 8:33Speaker 1: these choices.
- 8:35Speaker 8: For sure.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Two out of those.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Fours okay, COO's Deer Mountain, Goat Canada, Goose, black Bear.
- 8:42Speaker 9: I'm trying to like read your eyes to see which ones.
- 8:44Speaker 5: You'll look well. I mean, I argue with Spencer on
- 8:47Speaker 5: the answers to these supposedly well defined questions all the time.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Because the steaks are so high. I had Randall Williams
- 8:56Speaker 1: fact check all of these questions, make sure there was
- 8:58Speaker 1: no wiggle room for any one to argue, no possibility
- 9:02Speaker 1: of there being an error. So with that said, if
- 9:05Speaker 1: you have a complaint, I'm gonna have you filet with
- 9:07Speaker 1: Randall instead of me. He was the last line of
- 9:10Speaker 1: defense from anything here being wrong.
- 9:13Speaker 9: Nice diversion.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Hmm?
- 9:17Speaker 4: I promise myself I was gonna listen to my intuition. Okay,
- 9:20Speaker 4: and you're not sound and I think I'm gonna stick
- 9:23Speaker 4: with it.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Sam doing some erasing. It's everybody ready, Yes, go
- 9:33Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying mountain goats,
- 9:37Speaker 1: Chili saying black bear, Hansi saying Canada goose, Mackenzie saying
- 9:42Speaker 1: mountain goat, Christine saying mountain goat, Sam saying Canada goose.
- 9:48Speaker 1: The correct answer is mountain goats. A few folks got
- 9:52Speaker 1: it right. The closest mountain goats to the HeLa National
- 9:56Speaker 1: Forest are located about three hundred miles north in Colorado,
- 10:00Speaker 1: So Canada. Geese spend winter in the forest, while black
- 10:03Speaker 1: bears and coos deer found sporadically throughout the forest. The
- 10:06Speaker 1: HeLa National Forest is the fifth biggest national forest in
- 10:11Speaker 1: the country. And I tell you that Chester got that
- 10:13Speaker 1: one right, all right, Chester.
- 10:15Speaker 9: How which other one have you not seen?
- 10:18Speaker 5: Well? The Canada goose would be like I it's a
- 10:22Speaker 5: migratory bird, goes wherever it wants. I'm sure sure geese
- 10:25Speaker 5: are in the HeLa, but I haven't.
- 10:30Speaker 9: Seen one.
- 10:30Speaker 5: I've called a BlackBerry in with a cow call on accident, yep, yep.
- 10:36Speaker 5: And I've seen coos deer and found their sheds in
- 10:40Speaker 5: the HeLa so cool.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Question two. The topic is hunting. This is our listener
- 10:46Speaker 1: question of the week, which was won by Steve Corson
- 10:49Speaker 1: for sending this great question. He's going to get a
- 10:51Speaker 1: book signed by Steve. Name one of the ten most
- 10:56Speaker 1: popular male dog names in twenty twenty two, according to
- 11:01Speaker 1: the American Kennel Club, col with an extremely quick answer,
- 11:06Speaker 1: A lot of confidence over here.
- 11:07Speaker 8: I got a question on this quest.
- 11:09Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 11:09Speaker 8: So you said one of ten? Can we put multiple options?
- 11:12Speaker 1: That you put multiple and you get it wrong.
- 11:14Speaker 8: I feel like that's a valid question.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Name one of the ten most popular male dog names
- 11:20Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two. Cow, Please explain your confidence?
- 11:25Speaker 5: Oh, I mean a good gas. Yeah, but we should
- 11:30Speaker 5: play just real briefly. The ten most common dog names
- 11:35Speaker 5: in fishing towns.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Oh do you think you know that one?
- 11:38Speaker 9: Everybody in Boseman Madison. My parents did growing up too,
- 11:45Speaker 9: so I can't say anything bad about it.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Name one of the ten most popular male dog names
- 11:50Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two according to the American Kennel Club.
- 11:54Speaker 1: How many dog owners do we have in the room, Sam,
- 11:57Speaker 1: I got a dog? Everyone except Chili and Christine.
- 12:01Speaker 8: Landlord won't let me have it.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I blame them that I get this wrong.
- 12:05Speaker 8: I do.
- 12:07Speaker 9: I feel like this is so obvious, But now that
- 12:10Speaker 9: it's obvious, I can't think about it.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Fill your dog owner, right.
- 12:14Speaker 3: That's right? Yeah, I'm trying to Okay, Yeah, Phil.
- 12:17Speaker 9: What's your dog's name?
- 12:18Speaker 5: Yeah, Mango.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Well, I can't say anything because it's kinda'll be.
- 12:23Speaker 6: At him.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Name one of the ten most popular male dog names
- 12:30Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two.
- 12:33Speaker 5: I mean ten names, McKenzie.
- 12:35Speaker 9: That's like the hard part is like, am I the
- 12:38Speaker 9: last one?
- 12:39Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:39Speaker 5: Okay, I'm ruining.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Sam as well. Is everybody ready? You have an answer? Mackenzie,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I don't feel okay, yeah, yeah, go ahead and reveal
- 12:54Speaker 1: your answers. We have Cal saying scouts, Chili saying boon,
- 12:59Speaker 1: HANSI said, saying river, Mackenzie saying moose, Christine saying bear,
- 13:05Speaker 1: Sam saying body. We have I think one correct answer
- 13:10Speaker 1: in the room. It's bear. Christine got it right. Here
- 13:15Speaker 1: are the other nine, Max, Milo, Cooper, Charlie, Teddy, Tucker, Buddy, Bear,
- 13:24Speaker 1: Rocky and Leo.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Charlie.
- 13:29Speaker 10: Of course, Charlie, I'd like to point out that she
- 13:31Speaker 10: has a few answers on her board, so she crossed.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Out I want to show like I just missing. The
- 13:40Speaker 1: top ten were Loki, Jack, Coda, Murphy, Oliver, Ali, and Bentley.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Some of these dog names were also among the top
- 13:49Speaker 1: human names for boys. Leo was the highest from the
- 13:53Speaker 1: list at twenty two. That's followed by Cooper at fifty three,
- 13:56Speaker 1: Milo at one twenty, Max at one fifty six, Charlie
- 14:00Speaker 1: at one seventy eight, and Tucker at one ninety seven.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I feel like, if this is just a Gallatin County survey,
- 14:06Speaker 2: I think seventy eight percent of that would be Bridger.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, Bridger, Madison, River, Rio, Sage, Oh yeah, y.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Do the people in this room? Do you know more
- 14:18Speaker 1: Cooper dogs or Cooper humans?
- 14:21Speaker 5: I don't want Milo.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Do you know more Milo humans?
- 14:26Speaker 5: Milo? Leo sounds a lot like no good name if
- 14:30Speaker 5: you want to screw up a dog.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Huh, that's right. And we do have a Max in
- 14:34Speaker 1: the office, which is the number one. More bears, like
- 14:39Speaker 1: the class.
- 14:39Speaker 7: Bear cracks me up too, because imagine being out in
- 14:42Speaker 7: the woods and you're looking for your dog, You're screaming bear.
- 14:46Speaker 5: That's like my most sage advice, right, is like whatever
- 14:49Speaker 5: you pick, you better be comfortable screaming at in a
- 14:52Speaker 5: park full of strangers at the top of your lungs.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Question three, the topic is fishing. Which of the seven
- 15:02Speaker 1: natural Wonders of the world is also a world class
- 15:05Speaker 1: fishery for Spanish mackerel, black marlin, and giant travali?
- 15:12Speaker 9: Well, now, I gotta remember what the seven wonders are?
- 15:15Speaker 1: Seven natural wonders of the world. Which of the seven
- 15:19Speaker 1: natural wonders of the world is also a world class
- 15:23Speaker 1: fishery for Spanish mackerel, black marlin and giant travali?
- 15:28Speaker 6: Is this a North American question?
- 15:30Speaker 1: Not giving you any hints? Going back to the last question,
- 15:35Speaker 1: Chester did not get one of the top ten male
- 15:37Speaker 1: dog names. We are on question three. The topic is fishing, HANSI,
- 15:44Speaker 1: do you think you know the seven natural wonders of
- 15:47Speaker 1: the world?
- 15:48Speaker 3: Oh?
- 15:48Speaker 4: No, okay, no, definitely not.
- 15:50Speaker 8: You know a few of.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Them natural, maybe a couple.
- 16:05Speaker 1: You are the only folks in the room with an answer.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Do you think you have this right?
- 16:10Speaker 5: I think it's gotta be a natural wonder of the world. Okay,
- 16:14Speaker 5: if it's but I mean, there's so many unbelievable features
- 16:19Speaker 5: that fish love, you know, so absolutely yeah.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Which of the seven natural wonders of the world is
- 16:26Speaker 1: also a world class fishery for Spanish mackerel, black marlin
- 16:31Speaker 1: and giant Travali is everybody who's going to come up
- 16:37Speaker 1: with an answer?
- 16:39Speaker 9: It sure does. I'm pretty hard right now.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Chili, everybody else read go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Cal flip your board over. We have Cal saying great
- 16:52Speaker 1: Barrier Chile without an answer, Hansei saying Amazon River, Kenzie
- 16:57Speaker 1: saying Great Barrier Reef, Christie I mean saying Great Barrier reef,
- 17:02Speaker 1: Sam saying Great Barrier Reef.
- 17:04Speaker 3: They got it.
- 17:05Speaker 1: The correct answer is the Great Barrier Reef. Well done, room.
- 17:10Speaker 9: I don't even know how.
- 17:11Speaker 1: The Great Barrier Reef makes up ten percent of the
- 17:13Speaker 1: world's coral reef ecosystems. It's estimated that there are four
- 17:18Speaker 1: thousand tons of fish caught by commercial anglers and two
- 17:21Speaker 1: thousand tons of fish caught by recreational anglers in the
- 17:25Speaker 1: Great Barrier Reef each year. The main target of commercial
- 17:28Speaker 1: anglers are coral trout, which make up forty five percent
- 17:32Speaker 1: of the reef's total fish harvest.
- 17:34Speaker 5: That's badass looking fish too. You ever see Captain Ron.
- 17:39Speaker 1: No, is that a movie.
- 17:41Speaker 5: It's a movie. It's won several awards.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And to see tangle with some coral trout.
- 17:46Speaker 5: No, no, but there's a great great barrier reef reference
- 17:50Speaker 5: in there. If you're you know, a nautical person.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Well done, room, very impressed. Everyone got that right. Chester
- 17:56Speaker 1: did not get that one right.
- 17:57Speaker 5: You love it? Yeah, you're gonna have to watch it.
- 18:02Speaker 1: We are on the question four. The topic is woodsmanship.
- 18:06Speaker 1: This next great question comes to is via Steve Corson.
- 18:09Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right for
- 18:10Speaker 1: Meat Eater Trivia, you can send it to trivia at
- 18:13Speaker 1: the medeater dot com. The acronym b t U as
- 18:18Speaker 1: in a camp stove's BTU rating stand thermal unit cal.
- 18:28Speaker 1: The acronym b TU as in a camp stove's BTU rating,
- 18:32Speaker 1: stands for blank thermal unit.
- 18:37Speaker 5: Everybody should.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Sam, you traffic in a lot of gears over
- 18:44Speaker 1: here on a daily basis. For your job, we.
- 18:48Speaker 6: Sell many items that are measured in btu's.
- 18:50Speaker 1: And you don't know this one.
- 18:51Speaker 6: No.
- 18:52Speaker 7: I mean I've I've written it writing copy for the
- 18:55Speaker 7: meter store, certainly, but uh, I gotta think.
- 19:01Speaker 1: See that acronym A lot bt you is in a
- 19:04Speaker 1: camp stoves. Bt U rating stands for a blank thermal unit.
- 19:09Speaker 9: Yeah, this is humbling.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know if I'm listening to my intuition
- 19:13Speaker 4: very well.
- 19:16Speaker 1: And this is question for Chile in your army days.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I imagine this acronym was thrown around a bit as well.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Is it ringing any bells?
- 19:26Speaker 9: Uh?
- 19:27Speaker 8: No, no. In correction, since you like to correct.
- 19:30Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 19:30Speaker 8: I was not in the armhole.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Go ahead correct me.
- 19:34Speaker 8: I was in the Marine Corps. Yeah, there you go.
- 19:36Speaker 8: But yeah, we did.
- 19:37Speaker 10: Throw it around and uh drawn blanks here, Spencer, Well
- 19:42Speaker 10: look on.
- 19:42Speaker 5: The board, it's practically spelled out for you.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Blank.
- 19:49Speaker 9: I know now, I know how many letters are in it.
- 19:53Speaker 1: That that's not indicative every I like your attention to detail.
- 19:59Speaker 1: But anytime I have a fill in the blank, it
- 20:01Speaker 1: has five spaces there, so that that is not indicative.
- 20:05Speaker 3: This isn't the best font for doing those little underscore things.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Blank thermal unit.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Starts with a B five spaces. That's not a hint.
- 20:16Speaker 8: That's just not a hint.
- 20:18Speaker 1: It's every anytime I have a fill in the blank,
- 20:20Speaker 1: it is five spaces.
- 20:26Speaker 5: I can't think of a B word you can't pay
- 20:29Speaker 5: one b word, says hr I can think of one.
- 20:35Speaker 9: It's got to be boring if I think about it
- 20:38Speaker 9: for long enough. Just give me a couple of hours.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Mm hmmm. We're waiting for a couple of people here.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Blank thermal unit. Is everybody ready one of them? Cal?
- 20:54Speaker 1: Is there any chance you have this one wrong? Or
- 20:55Speaker 1: you're one hundred percent certain?
- 20:57Speaker 5: I'm one hundred certain, but that doesn't mean I can't
- 21:00Speaker 5: be wrong.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I think we're waiting on this side of the table.
- 21:07Speaker 9: I have an answer down I just don't.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Like and we are down to Christine and Sam. Blank
- 21:12Speaker 1: thermal unit. You could take your time. There's a lot
- 21:16Speaker 1: on the line here.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Starts with the bee and thermal unit.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Thank you, a lot on the line, Chili. Tell us
- 21:29Speaker 1: about that hat you have on.
- 21:30Speaker 8: The hat the kevlar another correction up to two now
- 21:37Speaker 8: it is.
- 21:37Speaker 10: Yeah, it's called a high cut kevlar, and it's designed
- 21:41Speaker 10: well for the military obviously, and then having compelltores, which
- 21:45Speaker 10: are basically.
- 21:47Speaker 5: For people who like to accessorize.
- 21:49Speaker 1: It's basically.
- 21:52Speaker 10: You can put like nods, you can put you know,
- 21:56Speaker 10: whatever you want on there have party.
- 21:58Speaker 1: He said it was so he could wear his headphones. Well,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but he's not even wearing his headphones.
- 22:01Speaker 8: Well, they're not designed for podcast, you.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Know, Sam, we're waiting on you. Ready, go ahead and
- 22:12Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Col saying British, Chili saying
- 22:18Speaker 1: but tane, Hansei saying British, McKenzie saying barometric, Christine saying basic,
- 22:24Speaker 1: Sam saying bells. The correct answer is British, Col and Hansi.
- 22:34Speaker 1: A BTU is a measurement of the amount of heat
- 22:37Speaker 1: needed to raise one pound of water through one degree fahrenheit.
- 22:42Speaker 1: A gas stove in your home can be up to
- 22:44Speaker 1: eighteen thousand BTUs, while a backpacking stove will have about
- 22:48Speaker 1: half of that bt user. Also, how people judge what
- 22:52Speaker 1: trees make for the best firewood? Question five? The topic
- 22:57Speaker 1: is gear. The best pros corporate headquarters are located in
- 23:03Speaker 1: this state.
- 23:04Speaker 9: Haven't we had this question before?
- 23:06Speaker 1: We have not. We can talk about it afterwards. I
- 23:10Speaker 1: know what you're thinking of, but it is not the
- 23:12Speaker 1: same again. Question five topic is gear The bass pro
- 23:17Speaker 1: shops corporate headquarters are located in this state. So confidence
- 23:23Speaker 1: from Sam and Chili. Sam, do you have this one right? Yes? Chili,
- 23:26Speaker 1: do you have this one right. Maybe is this confidence
- 23:30Speaker 1: born out of you guys have been there, you just
- 23:32Speaker 1: know the brand that.
- 23:33Speaker 6: Well there many times.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Okay, good on you, Sam, that's gonna help.
- 23:37Speaker 8: I thought I heard something through the grapevine one day. Okay,
- 23:42Speaker 8: so yeah, I'm just going with that.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Looking for the state where the bass Pro shops corporate
- 23:47Speaker 1: headquarters are located.
- 23:49Speaker 10: I feel like that might have been a little hint there, Sam,
- 23:51Speaker 10: Well like they've moved.
- 23:53Speaker 8: Well, well hint as far as if you've been there
- 23:56Speaker 8: many times. I know where you're from.
- 23:59Speaker 6: Where you grew up up.
- 24:01Speaker 8: So if I was an educated man, would not I'd
- 24:04Speaker 8: go with that.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Chill. He's not gonna let it change his answers.
- 24:07Speaker 5: I might, though. I just saw I was uh in
- 24:14Speaker 5: a in a state where uh bass Pro has a store,
- 24:19Speaker 5: and uh that store has a hotel on it, and
- 24:24Speaker 5: it just got named like the best.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Hotel at school in that state.
- 24:28Speaker 5: I did not find it to be.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Is this informing your answer?
- 24:36Speaker 5: It's not. It's not because it's not. I don't think
- 24:39Speaker 5: it's the same.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Christine, go ahead and reveal
- 24:46Speaker 1: your answers. We have Camel saying Mississippi Chili saying, oh, Missouri.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I believe Missouri is m O not.
- 24:55Speaker 8: Yeah, you're right, that's what mine says too.
- 24:59Speaker 5: We'll give it to you.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Can says Missouri, Chile says Michigan. Hansi says Missouri, Mackenzie
- 25:05Speaker 1: says Missouri, Christine says Tennessee. Sam says Missouri. The correct
- 25:10Speaker 1: answer is Missouri. The room did pretty well on Chester.
- 25:16Speaker 5: Chester, get that right.
- 25:17Speaker 1: He did get that right. He was just on a
- 25:20Speaker 1: bachelor party where he golfed on a bass Pro golf course.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I don't know if it's affiliated bass Pro, but I
- 25:25Speaker 1: think Johnny Morris owns it. Johnny Morris started the company
- 25:30Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy two from the back of his dad's
- 25:33Speaker 1: liquor store. At five hundred thousand square feet, the Springfield
- 25:36Speaker 1: Bass Pro is the largest in the world. It's complete
- 25:40Speaker 1: with waterfalls, aquariums, a gun range, boat showroom, cafe, archery,
- 25:45Speaker 1: hall of fame, and more. As you said Chester, excuse me,
- 25:49Speaker 1: as you said cal Chester got that one right.
- 25:51Speaker 6: It's a pretty impressive place. You were thinking about the
- 25:54Speaker 6: pyramid question.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Exactly, and that was in Meshis, which is a question
- 25:58Speaker 1: we've had.
- 26:00Speaker 5: But Johnny Morris is like ubiquitous in the Southeast, like
- 26:06Speaker 5: he is all over anything conservation related.
- 26:10Speaker 4: I feel like anything started in the back of a
- 26:12Speaker 4: liquor store is the start to a good story or
- 26:15Speaker 4: as small absolute that.
- 26:18Speaker 5: The Pyramid houses the Ducks Unlimited Museum, and they have. Honestly,
- 26:26Speaker 5: it's it's worth going into the Pyramid to check that out.
- 26:29Speaker 5: It's a bunch of there's a bunch of cool stuff.
- 26:31Speaker 5: Eight gage shotguns and big kegs of powder that they
- 26:36Speaker 5: use for market hunting, and a bunch of punt guns
- 26:39Speaker 5: and stuff.
- 26:39Speaker 6: It's sweet.
- 26:39Speaker 8: Do they happen to have AMMO for our punt gun?
- 26:42Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 26:42Speaker 3: They do, ye.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Sam James came to us from SIMS. I assume that
- 26:48Speaker 1: is why you spent so much time at the corporate
- 26:50Speaker 1: headquarters in Missouri.
- 26:51Speaker 7: That's correct, Spencer, Yep, yep. I've been there a bunch
- 26:54Speaker 7: of times to talk product with those guys, and I've
- 27:00Speaker 7: heard that the like they're they have a room or
- 27:05Speaker 7: a warehouse where they store all the trophy mounts that
- 27:08Speaker 7: they are getting ready to send out to stores or
- 27:10Speaker 7: taken back from stores or moving them around. That it's
- 27:13Speaker 7: absolutely unbelievable as you would expect.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Okay, but you haven't seen it.
- 27:16Speaker 6: I haven't seen it. I guess it's a it's.
- 27:18Speaker 7: A great honor maybe to be invited, But we.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Should start that rumor about meat eater. We've got some
- 27:24Speaker 1: house somewhere or like all all the mounts in the
- 27:28Speaker 1: world are still over there. Yeah, I heard it. I
- 27:30Speaker 1: heard that from something.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Those stores are pretty neat. Yeah. Fail.
- 27:33Speaker 1: We are halfway through the game of Trivia, which is
- 27:36Speaker 1: episode one of the tournament qualifying round. Give us a
- 27:40Speaker 1: scoreboard update.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Yeah, well, unfortunately the the kevlarsn't helping Chili out too much.
- 27:45Speaker 8: Nope, blocking the info.
- 27:46Speaker 3: He's got zero points.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Coming up next though, we've got Sam and Hansei with
- 27:50Speaker 2: two points apiece, Mackenzie and Christine with three points apiece,
- 27:54Speaker 2: and in first place with four is Ryan Callahan or Hans.
- 28:00Speaker 4: I'm making a comeback.
- 28:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Question six, The topic is cooking a Chicago style hot
- 28:17Speaker 1: dog has so many toppings that it's said to look
- 28:20Speaker 1: like it was dragged through the blank. Topic is cooking
- 28:29Speaker 1: a Chicago style hot dog has so many toppings that
- 28:33Speaker 1: it's said to look like it was dragged through the blank.
- 28:39Speaker 1: This is a turn of phrase that everybody uses when
- 28:42Speaker 1: describing a Chicago style hot dog?
- 28:45Speaker 5: Everybody, everybody, every single person.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Did live there for four years.
- 28:51Speaker 6: Haven't heard this dragged.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Through the blank experience? You really don't. You don't know
- 28:58Speaker 1: this one. It's five Can you can you picture? Don't
- 29:03Speaker 1: don't help the room out. Can you picture what a
- 29:05Speaker 1: Chicago style hot dog looks like?
- 29:07Speaker 6: Oh?
- 29:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's like it's got very specific parameters too,
- 29:11Speaker 4: So I mean not a lot of leeway there.
- 29:14Speaker 2: As someone who's has lived in Chicago four years? Is
- 29:17Speaker 2: it harrisy, harrisy for me to say Chicago dogs are whack?
- 29:23Speaker 4: I mean I still make a Chicago hot dog for
- 29:25Speaker 4: dinner like once a month. Really, I don't know. Maybe
- 29:28Speaker 4: I'm I'm I'm a little.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Ideology, can agree?
- 29:34Speaker 4: I mean I would, I would put the pizza on
- 29:36Speaker 4: that on that.
- 29:39Speaker 1: What was your go to place? Were you a lose person?
- 29:42Speaker 4: Were you I was alum naties?
- 29:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I like lose. My wife and I will
- 29:48Speaker 1: have one about once a month. We order from them online.
- 29:51Speaker 1: They ship it to you frozen.
- 29:52Speaker 8: It's pretty sweet.
- 29:53Speaker 1: It is Yeah, it's good.
- 29:55Speaker 8: Uh it is.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Ah, it's a lot, it's a lot.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's.
- 29:59Speaker 4: The It's hedonism in a package. I mean it's it's
- 30:02Speaker 4: like it's a big yeah.
- 30:04Speaker 9: When we've all answered this question gone through it, can
- 30:06Speaker 9: you tell us about them? Yeah, because I need to know.
- 30:08Speaker 10: He just bring some hot dogs in and make me Ago.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Style sounds Yeah, top that it's said to look like
- 30:18Speaker 1: it was dragged through the blank. Phil, you seem to
- 30:21Speaker 1: have some familiarity over there with the Chicago style hot dog?
- 30:24Speaker 1: Did you know this answer?
- 30:26Speaker 2: I don't think I would have gotten as someone who
- 30:28Speaker 2: can picture a Chicago dog admit their mind's eye.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Okay, I have a word that would be very appropriate,
- 30:35Speaker 5: but I don't think it's like Chicago enough.
- 30:39Speaker 1: And then when Hansei brings those hot dogs in, everyone
- 30:42Speaker 1: is going to be using this turn of phrase.
- 30:44Speaker 5: Love hot dogs.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Are you gonna make these hot dogs for us on
- 30:48Speaker 4: a duck or something like that?
- 30:49Speaker 1: I made duck.
- 30:51Speaker 5: It's staking, uh. Process of I found like the best
- 30:57Speaker 5: hot dog grass would be.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Ever.
- 30:59Speaker 5: Ever, like all sources pointed me too, turned a lot
- 31:03Speaker 5: of moose meat into hot dogs, and at the end
- 31:06Speaker 5: of that process, I absolutely had a hot dog and
- 31:11Speaker 5: it was so brutal to make. I was like, this
- 31:14Speaker 5: is so stupid. There's nothing moose about it. There was nothing.
- 31:17Speaker 5: It was just a hot dog.
- 31:18Speaker 8: Yeah, it's awful process.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:21Speaker 5: You emulsify and emulsify and a mulsify. Yeah, there's milk.
- 31:27Speaker 5: Oh yeah, dry milk.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Does everyone have an answer?
- 31:31Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 31:32Speaker 1: Everyone ready, go ahead and reveal your antswer. We have
- 31:35Speaker 1: Cal saying gutter, Chili saying streets, Hansi saying garden, Mackenzie
- 31:40Speaker 1: saying mud, Christine saying dump, Sam saying trash.
- 31:44Speaker 5: See garden would be like the classy appropriate thing.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I have not like we have a correct
- 31:50Speaker 1: answer in the room. HANSI got it. It's garden. A
- 31:58Speaker 1: traditional Chicago style high dog is topped with some variation
- 32:02Speaker 1: of mustard onions, relish, tomato slices, peppers, and a pickle spear,
- 32:07Speaker 1: and delivered in a poppy seed bun. Danielle Pruitt says
- 32:10Speaker 1: it's her favorite way to survey venicson hot dog, and
- 32:13Speaker 1: you can get her recipe on the meat eater dot
- 32:15Speaker 1: com hobby. Do you think that was buried somewhere in
- 32:18Speaker 1: your brain, that your humunculous came up with it, or
- 32:21Speaker 1: you were just using context clues of knowing all the vegetables.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to come back to that. Intuition thing
- 32:26Speaker 4: here and you listened. I don't know, I don't know
- 32:30Speaker 4: what was going on there.
- 32:31Speaker 5: It just seemed like that doesn't seem Chicago specific at all.
- 32:36Speaker 1: You go ahead and you google it, Google Chicago style
- 32:38Speaker 1: hot dog and you'll see the phase.
- 32:43Speaker 8: We've never been wrong.
- 32:44Speaker 4: There's a lot more vegetables than I think are in
- 32:46Speaker 4: a lot of Chicago foods. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Chester did not get that one right. We are on
- 32:52Speaker 1: to question seven. The topic is hunting. What hunting show
- 32:56Speaker 1: did Michael Wattell start in two thousand and eight?
- 33:00Speaker 5: Uh?
- 33:01Speaker 1: Who the hell is Michael want?
- 33:04Speaker 3: Former guests of the Mediator podcast.
- 33:07Speaker 1: There's a hint for our players. What hunting show did
- 33:11Speaker 1: Michael watt Ell start in two thousand and eight? The
- 33:14Speaker 1: room is stumped. Cal coming up with an answer. He
- 33:21Speaker 1: may be the only one. What hunting show did Michael
- 33:24Speaker 1: Wattell start in two thousand and eight? HANSI tell me
- 33:30Speaker 1: about what goes on your Chicago style hot dogs that
- 33:33Speaker 1: you make once a month.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Pepper and genies, celery leaves, oh a pickle, okay? And
- 33:42Speaker 4: those are like mustews, pickle spear pickles, pickle spear yep
- 33:48Speaker 4: onion mustard and uh, I like a little celery salt
- 33:53Speaker 4: sprinkle on top.
- 33:54Speaker 5: I feel like celery salt is a must do.
- 33:56Speaker 4: Yeah also right, yeah, well, I don't know, it's I
- 33:58Speaker 4: don't know if you see it everywhere, but like the
- 34:00Speaker 4: thing that I feel like cooking wise, there are some
- 34:02Speaker 4: parameters too, and people I think it really polarized about that,
- 34:05Speaker 4: like cooked on a flat top, riddle sure, or steamed
- 34:07Speaker 4: like in that like hot dog water steaming like out
- 34:10Speaker 4: of a cart next to the park. That's like real classic.
- 34:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that's the steamed bun to where it's super
- 34:18Speaker 5: gooey too. That's yeah, that's it. That's a delicious little
- 34:20Speaker 5: treat right there.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Put that in the bag after, you know, put it
- 34:23Speaker 4: in the oven.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Put it in a bag, Hansei. It sounds like your
- 34:26Speaker 1: hot dog was dragged through the garden. Lots of veggies
- 34:28Speaker 1: on there.
- 34:29Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I've googled that. It's all over the
- 34:33Speaker 5: only way everyone refers to a Chicago style hot dog again. Question,
- 34:39Speaker 5: I feel like there's many neighborhoods in Chicago where you
- 34:41Speaker 5: would get your ass kicked if you were like drag
- 34:44Speaker 5: that thing through the garden.
- 34:45Speaker 6: Yeah, That's where I was coming at with trash.
- 34:47Speaker 5: I figured it's like a white sox versus cups.
- 34:51Speaker 1: That line of thinking was very impressive that everyone went
- 34:54Speaker 1: there because even Chester's answer I think was sewer. We
- 34:56Speaker 1: had gutter sewer trash, uh guar. Everyone was very dismissive
- 35:03Speaker 1: of a Chicago style hot dog. They wanted it to
- 35:06Speaker 1: be gross.
- 35:07Speaker 9: I thought I was gonna have like chili cheese, like
- 35:10Speaker 9: Hallapenians all that. Yeah, that's why I said the MUDs.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Is everyone who's coming up with an answer, have an
- 35:16Speaker 1: answer for the hunting show that Michael Waddell started in
- 35:19Speaker 1: two thousand and eight.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Everybody ready, No, man, I'm struggling this round.
- 35:29Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm not doing too good.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Three are you coming up with an answer?
- 35:33Speaker 5: Yeah? I'm coming up with one.
- 35:34Speaker 1: But that's that's that's all we're doing. Cal how do
- 35:37Speaker 1: you feel about your answer? You were the quickest, but
- 35:39Speaker 1: still not very fast.
- 35:42Speaker 5: I want to say that I really enjoyed Michael Waddell
- 35:45Speaker 5: on the show. I've met him several times prior to that.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Always a nice dude. Yeah, I can't have ever seen
- 35:53Speaker 5: his show.
- 35:53Speaker 9: Okay, I literally can't think of anything.
- 35:56Speaker 1: So it's once HANDI is done writing, we're going to
- 36:00Speaker 1: flip over the boards.
- 36:02Speaker 9: He's writing a story.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal. Flip
- 36:07Speaker 1: that over. Cal saying bone collector, Chili without an answer,
- 36:12Speaker 1: Hansi saying shooting big stuff out in the woods with
- 36:16Speaker 1: other people. Mackenzie without an answer, Christine saying backwoods. Sam
- 36:21Speaker 1: saying Wadell's hunts. The correct answer is bone collector.
- 36:26Speaker 8: Cal got it right.
- 36:28Speaker 7: You know, I was thinking that, but I thought that
- 36:30Speaker 7: was somebody else, and I thought it was older than Oh.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Wait, Whatdell said? He started the show to stand up
- 36:35Speaker 1: for hunting culture. His audience is referred to as the Brotherhood,
- 36:39Speaker 1: and his co hosts are Nick Munt and Travis T.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Bone Turner. For more on Waddell's journey, listen to episode
- 36:45Speaker 1: three point fifteen of Meat Eater and episode three sixteen
- 36:49Speaker 1: of Meat Eater Trivia. Question eight, we will get a
- 36:53Speaker 1: scoreboard update from Phil after this, and question seven was
- 36:56Speaker 1: one that Chester got right. The topic is fishing. This
- 37:02Speaker 1: style of jig, which shares its name with a sport,
- 37:06Speaker 1: is designed so that it won't fall over on its side.
- 37:12Speaker 1: The room is stumped. This style of jig, which shares
- 37:16Speaker 1: its name with a sport is designed so that it
- 37:19Speaker 1: won't fall over on its side.
- 37:23Speaker 9: Once. I'd like to know, is the percentage of fishing
- 37:26Speaker 9: questions that are about fly fishing or about conventional fishing.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It's a good question. I try to have equal representation
- 37:34Speaker 1: across pursuits and the country. No fly fishing questions in
- 37:39Speaker 1: this round, though, Mackenzie. This style of jig, which shares
- 37:42Speaker 1: its name with a sport is designed so it won't
- 37:45Speaker 1: fall over on its side. No one in the room
- 37:48Speaker 1: has come up with an answer yet.
- 37:51Speaker 8: This is an international sport.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Not going to help you, Chilie. Tell me an example
- 37:56Speaker 1: of a sport that's not international.
- 37:58Speaker 8: You think, fair point, fair point. I'm not going to
- 38:02Speaker 8: answer your question, and I want to is it.
- 38:05Speaker 5: A real sport like something you play with your hands?
- 38:09Speaker 1: Not gonna give you any hints.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Five letters, Yeah in the Olympics.
- 38:15Speaker 5: I'll just drag this one through the gardens.
- 38:20Speaker 1: This style of jig, which shares its name with a
- 38:23Speaker 1: sport is designed so that it won't fall over on
- 38:27Speaker 1: its side.
- 38:28Speaker 9: I wish you could phone a friend.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Who would you call if you could?
- 38:34Speaker 9: Probably my dad.
- 38:35Speaker 10: Call Chester Chester, Yeah, Chester yourself.
- 38:44Speaker 1: The room is slow to come up with an answer.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I would encourage you to write down some sport though,
- 38:48Speaker 1: if you are feeling stumped. This style of jig, which
- 38:53Speaker 1: shares its name with a sport, is designed so that
- 38:55Speaker 1: it won't fall over on its side. This is question eight.
- 39:02Speaker 1: We will get a scoreboard update from Phil after this
- 39:05Speaker 1: as a reminder to people from this room are going
- 39:08Speaker 1: to move on to the championship. Cal, I think we
- 39:16Speaker 1: are waiting on you.
- 39:18Speaker 9: Oh no, I have not.
- 39:19Speaker 1: We're waiting on.
- 39:22Speaker 9: Your side, all of them, pretty much.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Mackenzie, we are waiting on the air. Mhm again, This
- 39:36Speaker 1: is question eight.
- 39:38Speaker 10: Christine, hold on one second, Okay, forget it, it's over.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Go ahead, and Cal saying football, Chili saying bowling, Hansei
- 39:52Speaker 1: saying football, Mackenzie saying skiing, Christine saying skiing. Say I'm
- 39:59Speaker 1: saying football. All the correct answer is football. The room
- 40:04Speaker 1: did pretty well. The football jig was developed to be
- 40:09Speaker 1: dragged and always stay in contact with the bottom, but
- 40:13Speaker 1: once bass anglers noticed how well the jig could navigate
- 40:16Speaker 1: structure became more common for fishermen to hop it instead
- 40:19Speaker 1: of crawl it. Most football jigs employ some combination of
- 40:23Speaker 1: a wed guard, soft plastic or skirt Chester did not
- 40:27Speaker 1: get that one. Right, Now that you've heard the answer,
- 40:30Speaker 1: do you know what a football jig is? Does it
- 40:32Speaker 1: look familiar that the name is born out of the
- 40:34Speaker 1: head being shaped like a football so that it.
- 40:37Speaker 8: Won't tip over?
- 40:38Speaker 4: Got it?
- 40:38Speaker 9: Did you? Guys just guess that because you were thinking
- 40:40Speaker 9: of like a sport and football was the first one
- 40:42Speaker 9: to come to mind.
- 40:43Speaker 4: I was thinking that though, like the football can't like
- 40:45Speaker 4: it can't, you can't side. But I was also like
- 40:50Speaker 4: thinking about bowling for whatever reason the whole.
- 40:52Speaker 8: Time, kind of like that's the only one.
- 40:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, hard to tip over a bowling ball exactly.
- 41:00Speaker 1: We have two questions left. Give us a leader board update.
- 41:04Speaker 3: It looks like Chili.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Will not be participating in the final.
- 41:07Speaker 8: Didn't want to go any zero points, But we've.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Got everyone else is still in the running. We've got
- 41:14Speaker 2: Sam McKenzie, Christine and Chester all with three points apiece,
- 41:18Speaker 2: Hansi has four, and Cols in first place with six points.
- 41:22Speaker 5: Child drop of like the next qualifying round, right, could
- 41:30Speaker 5: he squeeze back in?
- 41:32Speaker 1: We could probably make that work, you know. And uh,
- 41:34Speaker 1: I don't follow hockey very closely, but in the NHL
- 41:37Speaker 1: they have like one guy who drives the Zamboni, who
- 41:41Speaker 1: is like the backup, backup, backup goalie, backup goalie gets hurt,
- 41:45Speaker 1: they like employ some dude who works at the arena
- 41:48Speaker 1: to come in and play. And it's like a very
- 41:49Speaker 1: exciting thing. Whenever it happened, Yeah, the team, and.
- 41:54Speaker 4: My wife does she's she's a hockey player. She plays
- 41:56Speaker 4: on like several teams.
- 41:58Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to that count. When it
- 42:00Speaker 1: happens though, it's like the leading story on Sports Center.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Johnny Zamboni got to come in and he he only
- 42:06Speaker 1: allowed three goals against. Question nine, the topic is conservation.
- 42:15Speaker 1: This next great question comes to is via justin sorry.
- 42:18Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right for
- 42:20Speaker 1: meat Eater Trivia, you can send it to trivia at
- 42:22Speaker 1: the medeater dot com. This conservation law that blocks the
- 42:27Speaker 1: trade of illegally taken wildlife is named after the Iowa
- 42:31Speaker 1: congressman who introduced it.
- 42:34Speaker 4: Call Yeah Yeah.
- 42:37Speaker 1: This conservation law that blocks the trade of illegally taken
- 42:41Speaker 1: wildlife is named after the Iowa congressman who introduced it.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Back to the point, I was making chili. You can
- 42:49Speaker 1: be chile Zamboni. If someone can't make it to the championship.
- 42:53Speaker 1: You are our son.
- 42:54Speaker 10: You know, I'd be honored because every time I've seen
- 42:56Speaker 10: one of those Zamboni guys come in as goalie, they
- 42:58Speaker 10: always come in and just crush it, you know.
- 43:02Speaker 8: So that's what I'm hoping for. But I won't be
- 43:04Speaker 8: upset if I don't get invited back.
- 43:06Speaker 1: The room is looking stumped. For the conservation law that
- 43:10Speaker 1: blocks the trade of illegally taken wildlife and it's named
- 43:14Speaker 1: after the Iowa congressman who introduced it.
- 43:21Speaker 5: Oh my god, this is gonna be I talk about
- 43:24Speaker 5: this in there somewhere, no exaggeration, once every two weeks
- 43:30Speaker 5: for sure.
- 43:31Speaker 1: So what what do you think I.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Can I can corroborate?
- 43:33Speaker 1: What do you think the issue is that at this time?
- 43:38Speaker 1: Cal why it's not coming to you?
- 43:39Speaker 5: I mean, it's the issue that I always have on this.
- 43:41Speaker 1: It's like the pressure.
- 43:42Speaker 5: I start off well and then I get to the
- 43:47Speaker 5: later rounds and I'm kind of like, oh wait, what happened?
- 43:51Speaker 5: Son of a beasting?
- 43:54Speaker 1: This conservation law that blocks the trade of illegally taken
- 43:58Speaker 1: wildlife is named after the Iowa congressman who introduced it.
- 44:05Speaker 1: I don't think anybody has an answer yet.
- 44:11Speaker 5: Short history of the law.
- 44:16Speaker 8: Ah.
- 44:20Speaker 1: This conservation law that blocks the trade of illegally taken
- 44:24Speaker 1: wildlife is named after the Iowa congressman who introduced it.
- 44:30Speaker 9: This is a toughy round.
- 44:33Speaker 1: This is question nine. Another school board update from Phil
- 44:37Speaker 1: after this, you know.
- 44:40Speaker 5: What's fun is like we've had questions on trivia for
- 44:45Speaker 5: certain individuals.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, mm hmm. You feel like this one was
- 44:50Speaker 1: pitched to you.
- 44:51Speaker 5: Oh, this is so easy. Just for the record, Like
- 44:55Speaker 5: in the game of baseball, I was the kid who
- 44:58Speaker 5: could like sit at a third base and get line
- 45:01Speaker 5: drives drilled at him all day and never screw it up. Okay,
- 45:04Speaker 5: the second a pop fly happened, I had just had
- 45:07Speaker 5: too much time to think and.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Time.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Maybe if this was question two instead of question nine,
- 45:13Speaker 1: then you would have you would have had a chance
- 45:14Speaker 1: at it. This conservation law that blocks the trade of
- 45:18Speaker 1: illegally taken wildlife is named after the Iowa congressman who
- 45:23Speaker 1: introduced it. We have a lot of blank boards in
- 45:27Speaker 1: the room.
- 45:28Speaker 3: This is so stupid.
- 45:29Speaker 8: It's gonna hurt.
- 45:30Speaker 1: It's gonna hurt. He not to add extra pressure, but
- 45:33Speaker 1: I think if you get this one right, you will
- 45:36Speaker 1: move on to the championship despite there being another question.
- 45:39Speaker 9: But it gives the rest of us a change.
- 45:40Speaker 1: It's going to make it interesting if he drops this
- 45:44Speaker 1: pop fly though.
- 45:50Speaker 9: I think I know the first letter, and I just can't,
- 45:52Speaker 9: like I keep saying every other word with this letter.
- 46:00Speaker 1: It's everybody ready, just that much Chili. Chili has not
- 46:07Speaker 1: picked up his board or marker. Just tell us what
- 46:09Speaker 1: you're thinking about over there, Chili.
- 46:11Speaker 10: Oh, you know how I'm While you guys are stressing
- 46:15Speaker 10: out about whoever goes on to the next round. I'm
- 46:17Speaker 10: just gonna be sitting in my office.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Chili, I got some upstairs.
- 46:22Speaker 8: Drink and me.
- 46:27Speaker 1: It appears as though it just came to Cal.
- 46:30Speaker 3: Oh wow, that's this is exciting.
- 46:34Speaker 1: A spirit moved through the room and whispered in the answer.
- 46:38Speaker 5: I just had to go through like the one hundred
- 46:39Speaker 5: and fifty cases that I've talked about involving He.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Was going through his favorite Iowa in Congress people. Yeah,
- 46:45Speaker 2: exactly that, Yes, Smith Jones.
- 46:47Speaker 5: I know, and I was doing it alphabetically. Everybody ready,
- 46:54Speaker 5: Just sure, I don't.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Know, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal
- 46:58Speaker 1: saying lazy Chili with out an answer Hansei saying, Davidson,
- 47:03Speaker 1: Keenzie saying el, Christine sang holland Sam saying Johnson, Cal
- 47:09Speaker 1: got it. The correct answer is the Lacy Act never
- 47:12Speaker 1: would have gotten that. The Lacy Act of nineteen hundred
- 47:16Speaker 1: was introduced by Republican John F. Lacey and signed by
- 47:20Speaker 1: President William McKinley. It protects plants and animals by creating
- 47:25Speaker 1: civil and criminal penalties for a wide array of violations.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Significant amendments happened to the Lacy Act in nineteen sixty nine,
- 47:32Speaker 1: nineteen eighty one, nineteen eighty eight, in twenty twenty two.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Some of the big changes included protections for amphibians and
- 47:40Speaker 1: requiring big cat owners to be licensed. Chester did not
- 47:44Speaker 1: get that one right, Phil. We have one question left.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Give us a scoreboard update.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Got Chili, sorry, Chilli.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Had when he came if you guessed it zero?
- 48:02Speaker 2: Moving on, we got Sam, McKenzie, Christine Anchester, all still
- 48:05Speaker 2: with three points. Hansei has four, and Cal took that
- 48:09Speaker 2: one with a seven, So.
- 48:11Speaker 1: We have cow. Moving on, we have Hansei. If he
- 48:15Speaker 1: gets this one right, he will move on. If he
- 48:17Speaker 1: gets it wrong in any of us, any of these
- 48:20Speaker 1: three or Chester get it right, then we would have
- 48:23Speaker 1: a tie breaker reminder two of you will move on
- 48:26Speaker 1: to the championship.
- 48:27Speaker 9: All right, it's serious time.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Question ten. The topic is woodsmanship. Cotton Balls, shaved bark,
- 48:34Speaker 1: and dry grass are all examples of this, which also
- 48:38Speaker 1: happens to be an app that's owned by the match group.
- 48:42Speaker 5: What the hell? I know? Where you going to do
- 48:45Speaker 5: an app?
- 48:48Speaker 9: I know it, I know it, I know it.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Cotton Balls, shaved bark, and dry grass are all examples
- 48:54Speaker 1: of this, which also happens to be an app that's
- 48:58Speaker 1: owned by the match group. Hansei, do you have this
- 49:03Speaker 1: one right?
- 49:04Speaker 8: No?
- 49:04Speaker 1: Okay, Now going to potentially make it interesting, I'm gonna
- 49:08Speaker 1: guess we have Sam, Christine, McKenzie and Chester who all
- 49:13Speaker 1: still have a chance if Hansey were to get this wrong.
- 49:17Speaker 8: Not that it matters, but I feel very confident in
- 49:19Speaker 8: my answer. Okay, So how you start till you finish?
- 49:22Speaker 1: There you go, Hansei, You've had a little more time
- 49:28Speaker 1: waiting for me. Well, no, I don't think we're waiting
- 49:29Speaker 1: on you. So I just want to take a temperatures
- 49:32Speaker 1: has your confidence changed?
- 49:34Speaker 9: We should rush him so that he doesn't get it right,
- 49:36Speaker 9: and not to put any more pressure on Hanse but Spencer,
- 49:38Speaker 9: purely hypothetically, if we do have a tiebreaker, how are
- 49:41Speaker 9: we going to get Chester?
- 49:43Speaker 1: I already asked Chester the tireaker tie breaking answer. I
- 49:51Speaker 1: think we're waiting on Hanse at this point, Sam, do
- 49:53Speaker 1: you have this right?
- 49:54Speaker 6: I think so, Christine do you have this right?
- 49:57Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Mackenzie, do you have this right? Hansei? Are you ready?
- 50:05Speaker 5: You want to? You want to know what my fun
- 50:07Speaker 5: hint would be, No, no, no.
- 50:09Speaker 9: Anything wrong? No, Because then Hansey automatically went, HANSI, we're
- 50:18Speaker 9: waiting on you.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Coton Ball, shaved Bark, and dry Grass are all examples
- 50:23Speaker 1: of this, which also happens to be an app that's
- 50:26Speaker 1: owned by the match group.
- 50:28Speaker 4: Christine, I'm crossing off the one that I.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Cal saying tinder,
- 50:35Speaker 1: Chili saying kindle, Hansey saying Hanse, Mackenzie saying tinder, Christine's
- 50:43Speaker 1: saying fire, kindling, Sam saying tinder. Sam, the correct answer
- 50:50Speaker 1: is tinder, meaning we are going to a tiebreaker with Hansei, Mackenzie, Sam,
- 50:58Speaker 1: and Chest There's going to also got this one right.
- 51:03Speaker 1: The definition of tinder is quote, a very flammable substance
- 51:07Speaker 1: adaptable for use as kindling. Some other examples of tinder
- 51:11Speaker 1: include leaves, pine needles, cattails, dryer, lin, paracord, and paper
- 51:16Speaker 1: good Tinder materials will burn hot and fast, giving you
- 51:20Speaker 1: the foundation for a quality fire.
- 51:23Speaker 4: And I thought the lazy answer hurt that one?
- 51:26Speaker 1: Just really Who in this app is familiar with tinder? Chili?
- 51:30Speaker 1: Have you been that? I don't know.
- 51:36Speaker 6: I like kindle nice.
- 51:39Speaker 8: I was like, yeah, fire match, No, I have no
- 51:44Speaker 8: idea what tinder is.
- 51:47Speaker 9: Never heard of her?
- 51:49Speaker 1: Never heard of her. We are going to a tiebreaker
- 51:51Speaker 1: play the drop, Phil.
- 51:58Speaker 2: I they just cut it at if you ain't first
- 52:00Speaker 2: your laugh and then like going to other stuff.
- 52:02Speaker 6: It's funny.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I never liked it a Phil cough Man again. We
- 52:07Speaker 1: are down to Hansei, Mackenzie, Sam and Chester. The tie
- 52:12Speaker 1: breaking topic is mountain men, and as always, this will
- 52:15Speaker 1: be numerical, so the person with the closest answer will
- 52:19Speaker 1: be declared the winner. What year did the movie Jeremiah
- 52:24Speaker 1: Johnson come out?
- 52:27Speaker 5: Boy?
- 52:30Speaker 9: Why you gotta do a dirty like that?
- 52:32Speaker 1: What year did the movie Jeremiah Johnson come out? I
- 52:35Speaker 1: will encourage everyone to play along, even if they're not
- 52:38Speaker 1: in the tiebreaker. Somebody could get it right on the nose,
- 52:40Speaker 1: and we will add an extra one hundred dollars donation
- 52:44Speaker 1: to the end of the game.
- 52:45Speaker 3: I got it.
- 52:46Speaker 2: This has nothing to do with you, Spencer. It's not
- 52:47Speaker 2: a criticism of you at all. This is more of
- 52:50Speaker 2: like the outdoor industry in general. This is like the
- 52:53Speaker 2: only movie that has ever referenced it comes to like
- 52:56Speaker 2: the outdoors and mountain Men. It's like it's it's always
- 52:59Speaker 2: like I think we've had several trivia questions about it's
- 53:02Speaker 2: like the only movie Clay has seen.
- 53:03Speaker 1: I think, well, I'll tell you this our founder Steve Burnell,
- 53:06Speaker 1: it's his favorite movie of all time. Yeah, and I'm
- 53:08Speaker 1: guessing that contributes to that.
- 53:11Speaker 6: There was one a couple of weeks ago with hatchet
- 53:12Speaker 6: Jack or.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Wrote about that.
- 53:16Speaker 8: Is there anybody in the room that hasn't seen the movie?
- 53:19Speaker 9: I'm not.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Are you familiar with what it is? Mackenzie?
- 53:23Speaker 9: So yeah, there's that's not even it. I just don't
- 53:27Speaker 9: watch movies.
- 53:27Speaker 1: You know.
- 53:28Speaker 8: There's a hint you don't know the main actor's name.
- 53:33Speaker 1: I don't know. That's not helping anybody out. There's a
- 53:35Speaker 1: lot on the line and figure how confident are you
- 53:41Speaker 1: in your answer?
- 53:43Speaker 4: Like fifty six percent?
- 53:49Speaker 1: Like yeah, close, yeah, the uper hand. You've seen this movie.
- 53:54Speaker 6: I've seen this movie.
- 53:55Speaker 1: How confident are you in your answer?
- 53:57Speaker 6: Low? Low confidence?
- 54:00Speaker 1: You have not seen the movie? Have you? Are you
- 54:03Speaker 1: familiar with it at all enough to like be in
- 54:05Speaker 1: the ballpark?
- 54:06Speaker 9: Maybe?
- 54:07Speaker 1: Okay, we'll see I'm within.
- 54:11Speaker 5: Four years. Okay, I'm guessing.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Is everybody ready again a spot on the line to
- 54:18Speaker 1: move to the championship, Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 54:21Speaker 1: We have cal saying nineteen eighty four, Chili without an answer,
- 54:26Speaker 1: Hansi saying nineteen sixty nine, Mackenzie saying nineteen seventy nine,
- 54:31Speaker 1: Christine saying nineteen seventy, Sam saying nineteen seventy eight, and
- 54:35Speaker 1: Chester saying nineteen sixty eight. One of you is within
- 54:40Speaker 1: three years of the correct answer.
- 54:42Speaker 5: I was thinking it was nineteen seventy nine.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Sorry. One of you is within two years of the
- 54:47Speaker 1: correct answer. The correct answer is nineteen seventy two, making
- 54:54Speaker 1: Hansi our winner time ranking around. He said, Hansie, so
- 55:01Speaker 1: close you beat Chester, you beat one year. I don't
- 55:05Speaker 1: blame you one year. So that's the closest I've ever
- 55:09Speaker 1: been well done? Hansei, may you a peak behind the curtain.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Hanse got the invite last night to come play, and
- 55:15Speaker 1: then here he is now moving out of the championship.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Hansei Zamboni over.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Am.
- 55:22Speaker 1: It was late, it was late, and here he is.
- 55:25Speaker 8: It shows up no preparation.
- 55:31Speaker 1: And Mackenzie, on the other hand, had been studying for this,
- 55:34Speaker 1: she said, and so close, so close. So we have
- 55:39Speaker 1: Hansei and Cal moving on. Col was the winner. Now, ordinarily,
- 55:43Speaker 1: at this part of the game, Cal would get to
- 55:45Speaker 1: choose where the five hundred dollars donation for meat Eater goes.
- 55:47Speaker 1: But because this is part of the tournament, we're going
- 55:50Speaker 1: to do something a little different. Here's what's going to happen.
- 55:52Speaker 1: We are banking each donation until the end of the tournament.
- 55:55Speaker 1: So instead of four or five hundred dollars donations, the
- 55:58Speaker 1: Meat Eater Trivia champion is going to get to make
- 56:01Speaker 1: one two thousand dollars donation. It'll be the biggest donation
- 56:04Speaker 1: in meat Eater Trivia history.
- 56:07Speaker 5: Can I have a veto vote on that?
