- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to the monthly mail bag for November twenty twenty four.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Here on the fourth a discant network. I'm down and
- 0:21Speaker 1: I am guy. Did you say November twenty twenty four?
- 0:23Speaker 2: But not that? Oh no, it is that. Yeah, I
- 0:26Speaker 2: just needed to sort of go to me for a second.
- 0:29Speaker 1: We haven't done one of these since June, and we
- 0:30Speaker 1: apologize because we're going to do this as a monthly
- 0:33Speaker 1: mail bag. Guess what it's going to be. The way
- 0:35Speaker 1: the new schedule works is you get talking Scientfower speak
- 0:37Speaker 1: at the heel Tales of Futurama, and we end each
- 0:40Speaker 1: month with a monthly mail bag exclusively for you supporters
- 0:43Speaker 1: here on Patriot.
- 0:44Speaker 2: He's telling you this. He told me this this morning, Yes,
- 0:47Speaker 2: because I was like, Dan, what are we doing? I
- 0:49Speaker 2: made decisions in until after the fact and I show
- 0:51Speaker 2: up and I just a it's a good system that works.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It's not a dysfunctional relationship in any way.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Shape for Let's get to our first question the show.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Let's all right, Andy not Andy G. I think it's
- 1:02Speaker 1: kat G because it's d E. So he's seeing it's
- 1:06Speaker 1: Andy D.
- 1:07Speaker 2: It's not Andrew JP. No, it's not Andrew JP. Where
- 1:09Speaker 2: is Andrew GP, he's got missing do you respect to
- 1:14Speaker 2: Andy D? I think it was a little weird that
- 1:16Speaker 2: Andrew JP is not first name on the call sheet
- 1:19Speaker 2: when it comes to a mailbank.
- 1:20Speaker 1: That's right, But Andy D wants to know what's your
- 1:21Speaker 1: favorite most recently seen show. Doesn't have to be a
- 1:24Speaker 1: new one, just one you've recently discovered. We've already discussed
- 1:26Speaker 1: Monk that I've really enjoyed very much.
- 1:28Speaker 2: In The Monk, you're like three seasons in, four seasons
- 1:30Speaker 2: in or four three and a half in. Now.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we just watched the episode that had Jason Alexander
- 1:34Speaker 1: guest the one. There's a few critiques of the show.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Two big ones for me. The annoying thing is that
- 1:41Speaker 1: it's always the guest star. So if you recognize the face,
- 1:45Speaker 1: you go, oh, well that's the person, yes, And that
- 1:47Speaker 1: is annoying because shake it up a bit. Have them
- 1:49Speaker 1: be someone who helps Monk, who they could be the
- 1:52Speaker 1: victim of the crime. Don't keep making them the person
- 1:54Speaker 1: that Monk is looking for because it just becomes obvious
- 1:57Speaker 1: by the end.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I get where you're coming from.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Just shake change the formula a little bit, even if
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's every like one or one out of five episodes.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It's different just to just to throw you off a bit,
- 2:05Speaker 2: do it every once in a while. I yes, as
- 2:08Speaker 2: I said, I wholly understand where you're coming from. I
- 2:10Speaker 2: think people tune into Monk though for some feeling of constancy, repetition, yeah, comfort,
- 2:18Speaker 2: I like it though for the I like the pattern,
- 2:20Speaker 2: I like the formula. Yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Well, felt like the first season was that was the show.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Obviously wasn't huge success of the guest stars every second
- 2:26Speaker 1: week or every week, right, it feels like every week.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Now it's a guest start. It's like it's the stick
- 2:29Speaker 2: of the show.
- 2:30Speaker 1: But the first season was great because they were who
- 2:32Speaker 1: done it's and you were trying to solve it with
- 2:35Speaker 1: him with Monk, And it felt like in the seasons
- 2:37Speaker 1: two and three, they would show you the crime being
- 2:39Speaker 1: committed at the start and then show you Monk try
- 2:42Speaker 1: to figure it out, and it's like I want to
- 2:43Speaker 1: I want to work it at with him. I don't
- 2:45Speaker 1: want to know what it is and then have to
- 2:46Speaker 1: watch him figure it out.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I'm like, we already know what the answer is. Work
- 2:49Speaker 2: out you figured it out already. I'm just picturing you
- 2:52Speaker 2: talking to the TV in that voice exactly like dude, David, well.
- 2:57Speaker 1: You know, you know it's bad with him, Nicholas going,
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'm kind of sick of the fact that it's always
- 3:00Speaker 1: like the famous person. I'm like, yeah, if she's noticing
- 3:02Speaker 1: it that because she will sit there, she'll just enjoy it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But if she's critiquing it, you know it's bad. The
- 3:06Speaker 1: other thing is they really realize that audiences must love.
- 3:10Speaker 2: God Monk's weird. He does some really weird.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Things, and they just you know, when the gag, they
- 3:15Speaker 1: try to make it a gag.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Extending at the Rakes.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Side showed Bob it's funny, then it becomes not funny,
- 3:19Speaker 1: then it becomes funny again. It never becomes funny again.
- 3:22Speaker 1: With the Monks stuff, it's like, just step through the
- 3:25Speaker 1: fucking door, you know, like he's looks and.
- 3:27Speaker 2: He's taking he steps back, takes a step, who steps
- 3:29Speaker 2: back and he takes deep breath. I can't do it.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It's like this has been going for a minute now,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I can be just we've seen him walk through doorways before.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Just step through the doorway. So they're my two critiques,
- 3:38Speaker 1: but I am enjoying it overall.
- 3:40Speaker 2: What about you? And he shows you've just discovered anything.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh it is this one. It actually is new and
- 3:45Speaker 2: there's still unrolling and today for Yonce age along well.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Of course ninety in all its incarnations, remains, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 2: number one on the dockets. What has just wrapped up?
- 3:59Speaker 2: I think it's was ninety because there's they usually run
- 4:02Speaker 2: two concurrently. I actually going with ny that's the show
- 4:06Speaker 2: not going. But I'm going to tell you about the
- 4:07Speaker 2: current state of play with naety day because well, I
- 4:10Speaker 2: think at least two people in our Patreon group and
- 4:13Speaker 2: our and then in the in the ninety day family,
- 4:16Speaker 2: in the fore Finger Discount family, have started to say
- 4:18Speaker 2: how much they're into it.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I think it was a ginger Ginger made a way
- 4:21Speaker 1: through it and she was like, oh God, that is
- 4:24Speaker 1: always death, and I think our pale Jordan Molman Ritchie.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Also piped up in defense of NDF NINETYF. No, it's
- 4:37Speaker 2: not even an acronym that people use. I'm trying to
- 4:39Speaker 2: make I'm trying to make that chat I'm not going
- 4:40Speaker 2: to happen and I shouldn't do it. But they usually
- 4:43Speaker 2: run two seasons concurrently because there are a spinofs. You know,
- 4:46Speaker 2: there's nightety Day, the other way, there's ninety Day. Happily. Ever,
- 4:49Speaker 2: after all this kind of stuff and one just wrapped
- 4:51Speaker 2: up and they're about to start another one, there's going
- 4:53Speaker 2: to be a bit of a churnover. I think you're
- 4:55Speaker 2: doing ninety Day the last resort where couples that have
- 4:59Speaker 2: been on the show and have been constantly battling. It's like,
- 5:02Speaker 2: we're going to send you to like it's a real
- 5:04Speaker 2: rip off of the white loads. They even use like
- 5:06Speaker 2: white lotus music. This is the second season, but the
- 5:09Speaker 2: first one they did they send me like this deserted
- 5:11Speaker 2: resort somewhere in Mexico. It's really kind of spooky. It
- 5:15Speaker 2: was like they were at the hotel from the Shining
- 5:17Speaker 2: Fear Factor Little well yeah, I mean it wasn't speak
- 5:20Speaker 2: because they put them for challenges, although they did put
- 5:22Speaker 2: them through sort of emotional challenge. I know it's going
- 5:24Speaker 2: to save your marriage eating scorpions. That they would frame
- 5:29Speaker 2: it like that. It's like this is a trust exercise.
- 5:32Speaker 2: You're going to feed your partner a scorpion, or we're
- 5:33Speaker 2: gonna say your feed your partner like, oh I don't
- 5:35Speaker 2: want to eat it, big D, but I love you,
- 5:38Speaker 2: so you wouldn't put a scorby in my mouth, and no, no,
- 5:40Speaker 2: they put some dumb shit. Why am I watching this stuff?
- 5:44Speaker 2: I love I love you, I love you, Luise. This
- 5:46Speaker 2: is why I'm watching. But anyway, so there's that, but no,
- 5:49Speaker 2: something that and I are quite into at the moment
- 5:53Speaker 2: is The Day of the Jackal. It is on Peacock
- 5:56Speaker 2: in the US and it is on Foxtel slash Binge
- 6:00Speaker 2: here Daid. Jackal is one of those names I think
- 6:02Speaker 2: people know, even if you've never seen the original film
- 6:05Speaker 2: or read the original novel by Frederick Fords, The Master
- 6:07Speaker 2: of Susprench. It's essentially the Jackal. It's code named war
- 6:12Speaker 2: an assassin for high when of these guys, he's a
- 6:15Speaker 2: master of the skies. You're paying an exambalant amount of money
- 6:18Speaker 2: and he will you take out your designated target in
- 6:21Speaker 2: some ludicrous inventive and it's an assassin. Is an assassin, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 2: but a cool I mean killing people. He's killing people.
- 6:36Speaker 2: He's played by the Academy Award winning actor Eddie Redmain.
- 6:41Speaker 2: A lot of people don't like Eddie Redmain. He's a
- 6:45Speaker 2: fantastic beast guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, guy, I have no
- 6:51Speaker 2: whatsoever you are red main topic. You get a lot
- 6:54Speaker 2: of people who are very online, or this guy's too much.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Or didn't he play Stephen Hawking without him? He did,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and he won the oscar for that else did okay?
- 7:01Speaker 1: I mean he was good in that found Oh yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 2: It's like I love the guy or despise the guy.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I just that guy. There are certain people, certain actors,
- 7:09Speaker 2: particularly that a certain segment of people online will like.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Don't like that guy. He could do any he could win,
- 7:16Speaker 2: ask us, he could try different stuff, have a great
- 7:20Speaker 2: versatile body work. Now I don't like him? Yeah, for
- 7:23Speaker 2: whatever reason? How I get through life? No no one
- 7:25Speaker 2: likes Oh I hate what Hayden? No one likes me.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Everybody like, you're the baby face. I'm the heel. Oh
- 7:34Speaker 2: you really? Yeah? Am I I don't think so? Are
- 7:37Speaker 2: we both baby faces? I think that's yeah, we're in
- 7:39Speaker 2: the heel. In the show Where's Mitch, Mitch, we're occasionally
- 7:44Speaker 2: bespirching Mitch's character. He's pretty off, mitches up, living his
- 7:48Speaker 2: best life, lovely child, a job, you know, plays a
- 7:55Speaker 2: bit of cricket every once and again. I should have
- 7:59Speaker 2: to ask by the way she broke her should collar
- 8:01Speaker 2: bone or something when you usually say shout out to someone.
- 8:05Speaker 2: It's like, well done you. I hope you're getting better
- 8:08Speaker 2: well as I do. Is playing crickets because he said crickets.
- 8:10Speaker 1: She which's wife in case you're not aware, reaching for
- 8:13Speaker 1: the ball put her hands out flat and it's like,
- 8:15Speaker 1: completely broke her collar bone. Not damn, yeah, no good.
- 8:18Speaker 2: She's only young. She shouldn't be doing that. Ship that
- 8:20Speaker 2: should be that's the province of me. Yeah, reaching for
- 8:23Speaker 2: a glass one of the best memes e. It was like, yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 2: when you're twenty or twenty five or whatever, you stayed
- 8:31Speaker 2: on I go to work whatever. It's like I look
- 8:35Speaker 2: to see what was out the window and now I'm
- 8:37Speaker 2: a quadriplegic. That's essentially what it's like, rewinding, rewinding, rewinding,
- 8:44Speaker 2: day of the Jackal Eddie redmade. It's given him a
- 8:46Speaker 2: little bit. Not he didn't need a career boots. He
- 8:48Speaker 2: was doing perfectly fine. But everyone's like it's always the
- 8:51Speaker 2: way you take someone who vaguely tough or whatever, you
- 8:54Speaker 2: put a gun in their hand and you make him
- 8:55Speaker 2: capable of it. It's like, wow, yeah, this who un'tseeen
- 9:02Speaker 2: depth and charisma from this person. It's really good. It's
- 9:06Speaker 2: a ten episode mini series. I think they've just renewed
- 9:10Speaker 2: it for a second season, which I guess The Jackal
- 9:12Speaker 2: was getting away at the air and but we are
- 9:15Speaker 2: very much enjoying it on a Sunday night this weekend
- 9:18Speaker 2: looks like it's gonna be good, a good time on
- 9:20Speaker 2: the couch for lu And although we've got to go
- 9:22Speaker 2: to a Thanksgiving party for our threat, well we have
- 9:25Speaker 2: to got to do it.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Luise organizes the social events and you're like, oh the
- 9:29Speaker 1: fuck men, she's not one.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Hundred percent stoked about it either. Yeah, but these are
- 9:34Speaker 2: after our friends Fane and Will, who love to throw
- 9:37Speaker 2: a party. They do they they're the people who do Chris.
- 9:39Speaker 2: There's a lot of friends who'd love to throw a party.
- 9:41Speaker 2: It sounds like indeed, I think Blue would like to
- 9:44Speaker 2: do that as well. I'm like, really do we have to?
- 9:46Speaker 2: I don't like going to parties, let them throwing them anyway,
- 9:49Speaker 2: But we're doing that. But there's also great looking documentary
- 9:52Speaker 2: starting to morrow called yacht Rock, a documentary run up
- 9:56Speaker 2: My Alley, and another show called The Agency, which sounds
- 10:00Speaker 2: but like the Day of the Jackal. It's former CIA
- 10:03Speaker 2: agent gets himself into Shenanigans. So yeah, I'm very much
- 10:06Speaker 2: in my dad era.
- 10:07Speaker 1: No children, I always love like children FBI former CIA.
- 10:11Speaker 1: It's like the cliche Arnold Schwarzenegger's script or what it's like.
- 10:15Speaker 1: He was once a formal CIA, then they killed his
- 10:18Speaker 1: wife and now he's back for revenge. That like, what's
- 10:22Speaker 1: that film where he they kill his daughter or something?
- 10:24Speaker 1: Is that?
- 10:26Speaker 2: That's not a razor? Is it? Which is the one
- 10:27Speaker 2: where they killed Schwartzenegger's daughter. Uh, there's one called Aftermath
- 10:31Speaker 2: where she does in a plane crash.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I thought they no, don't think no, no, no, Maybe
- 10:37Speaker 1: I'm thinking of any other action. Yeah, they blow up
- 10:42Speaker 1: someone's they blop someone's kid in a car.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It was a movie.
- 10:47Speaker 1: It was like a nineties film. It was any of
- 10:49Speaker 1: the state. Maybe they blow someone's kid in the car.
- 10:51Speaker 1: It was that that timeframe. Okay, I just love my nineties.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Who doesn't Anyway, the next question, let's get to it,
- 10:57Speaker 1: but ten minutes one question?
- 11:00Speaker 2: Is there a lot in the bag? Is the heavy bag?
- 11:02Speaker 2: It's pretty heavy? Wow?
- 11:04Speaker 1: Kell me Donald, What has been your favorite movie release
- 11:06Speaker 1: this year so far? Animated or not animated? How do
- 11:08Speaker 1: you both feel about Pamela Hayden those two separate questions. Okay,
- 11:11Speaker 1: so what's your favorite movie release so far this year?
- 11:13Speaker 1: I really enjoyed The Wild Robot.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I mean to check out The Wild right, Yeah, it's good.
- 11:18Speaker 1: The startup, it's really spooky for kids, Like the first
- 11:20Speaker 1: five minutes, Holly was like, I don't think I like this,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and I thought, it's more like this, probably have to
- 11:24Speaker 1: get her out of here, because actually it's very dark.
- 11:27Speaker 1: But the premise is that he's going around not knowing
- 11:29Speaker 1: what's going on. He's never been to this planet before,
- 11:31Speaker 1: and there's just like bear's.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Gone right out of nowhere.
- 11:34Speaker 1: And so the first five minute's a little scary for kids,
- 11:36Speaker 1: but the rest of the film fantastic.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And the Wild Robot is she's a she? Yeah, so
- 11:41Speaker 2: did I say he? I think no.
- 11:42Speaker 1: What it is is so the robot is friend a
- 11:46Speaker 1: friend's little baby duck and that raises this Yeah, yeah that,
- 11:50Speaker 1: and I think the duck is scared of the animals
- 11:51Speaker 1: or something.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Anyway, sounds about right. But The Wild Robot, Yeah, good movie.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I really enjoyed it.
- 11:56Speaker 2: All Right, You're going to have to give me a
- 11:57Speaker 2: second here because I'm trying really hard to remember what
- 12:01Speaker 2: is coming out this year, twenty twenty four movies, Gladiator
- 12:04Speaker 2: too yet I have not. I've heard.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Mix things mixed. We like Megalopolis, didn't you I didn't
- 12:10Speaker 1: think that was too bad? Just pick one film doesn't matter.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I know. I not go with Harold and the Purple Crayon,
- 12:17Speaker 2: just going yeah, because I'm a real Zachary le b Head.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Actually a great movie for kids. The premise sounds like whatever.
- 12:25Speaker 1: You look at the picture and go, oh, there's gonna
- 12:27Speaker 1: this film looks stupid. Nicoleokok the kiss to see it,
- 12:30Speaker 1: absolutely loved it. We had a house. I say a
- 12:33Speaker 1: house was probably the seven kids right who were running
- 12:36Speaker 1: ramp but going mental didn't like it. One of them
- 12:38Speaker 1: sort of just he's just he's fer at the best
- 12:40Speaker 1: of times. We put on Harold and the Purple Crayon
- 12:43Speaker 1: and they're like, yeah, we put it on. They sat
- 12:45Speaker 1: there for the whole film and loved it. Harold and
- 12:48Speaker 1: the Purple Crayon. Don't ask me how why kids love it?
- 12:53Speaker 2: Interesting? Interesting look, there's maybe a bit of a normal choice.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I like Gym too, Okay. I've never seen either of
- 13:02Speaker 2: the Dune films. I could lend them to you on
- 13:04Speaker 2: four K recently picked them. I've got them, but I've
- 13:08Speaker 2: never watched them. Okay, flex, we love plex. What a flex.
- 13:11Speaker 1: We'll change my internet this week and now I can
- 13:13Speaker 1: be like, oh everything works again.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Oh that's right. Yeah, I'm having a lot of dropouts.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Zero dropouts, which is a fantastic thing. I I I'll say,
- 13:22Speaker 1: how fast my internet?
- 13:23Speaker 2: Check out this picture? So when you're downloading? Almost every
- 13:26Speaker 2: time I see you, you're talking toast when you're when
- 13:29Speaker 2: you download something, what was it usually download out? What's man?
- 13:32Speaker 2: I don't know fast? It depends well, it depends on
- 13:35Speaker 2: the file, It depends on the whatever. What's usually get out?
- 13:39Speaker 2: What number? Well, you give me a number and I'll
- 13:42Speaker 2: say it. When was that ninety six the other day?
- 13:44Speaker 2: That sounds pretty quick. I download fourteen gig and under
- 13:48Speaker 2: five minutes. Well that's very quick. Well, good for you.
- 13:54Speaker 2: And the recently, when I've been coming out over the
- 14:00Speaker 2: record with Dando, he will talk about how terrible his
- 14:06Speaker 2: old internet provider was, start dropping the name of his
- 14:09Speaker 2: new internet provider and then saying, let's see if you
- 14:11Speaker 2: can get yeah, looking at my postcard, No you can't
- 14:15Speaker 2: get it. Yeah, it sucks. He was very much like
- 14:17Speaker 2: the kid in the Eddie Murviys game super say, hey,
- 14:28Speaker 2: you have a good time with your superne two a lot? Okay?
- 14:32Speaker 1: As She also asked cal, how do you both feel
- 14:35Speaker 1: about Pamela Hayden retiring and what impact do you think
- 14:37Speaker 1: it will have on the show going forward. There's two
- 14:38Speaker 1: ways that can go about it. Now, I have the
- 14:41Speaker 1: inside word that the idea of AI and the Simpsons
- 14:45Speaker 1: has already been addressed, addressed in house.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I imagine it would have been went down like a lead balloon.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Oh boy, So it wasn't like, Okay, Pamela sit in
- 14:57Speaker 2: this recording booth with the last of your brand, read
- 15:00Speaker 2: the dictionary. Yeah, I think I will say a selection
- 15:03Speaker 2: of words that we can then manipulate into the voice
- 15:06Speaker 2: of Millhouse that was not the voice of Millhouse.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I won't name names because you know the names we're
- 15:09Speaker 1: talking about. There are some names already on the show
- 15:11Speaker 1: who you watch the show now and go those voices
- 15:14Speaker 1: don't sound anything like they're supposed to, and it's very
- 15:18Speaker 1: distracting when you're watching the show. If you're watching just
- 15:20Speaker 1: nothing but new episodes, you probably just get used to it.
- 15:23Speaker 1: But when you go from an old one to a
- 15:24Speaker 1: new one, to the point where I put one on
- 15:26Speaker 1: the other day, kids put a new one. A Nicola goes,
- 15:27Speaker 1: have they replaced March? Okay, no, She's like, oh shit, okay, right, honestly,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I love.
- 15:35Speaker 2: How you say we don't have to name names. Yeah,
- 15:38Speaker 2: well it's obvious anyways.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So I think, Pamela, you listen to Millhouse now and
- 15:42Speaker 1: you can see you can start to hear the signs
- 15:45Speaker 1: of oh, it's not quite where it used to be.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I think she just went, you look, you know what.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I'm seventy, I've made my money. My voice ain't what
- 15:52Speaker 1: it used to be. I'm out. I think she wanted
- 15:55Speaker 1: to get out before I got to the point of
- 15:56Speaker 1: everyone going.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Oh god, have you heard it? Voice is so bad?
- 16:00Speaker 2: A couple of snipefuckers from GEELONGO, yeah, get out. Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 1: So, as I said, the AI has been addressed and
- 16:08Speaker 1: hasn't gone down well so far with whom read between
- 16:12Speaker 1: the lines? Who do you think as in like who
- 16:16Speaker 1: told me that that?
- 16:17Speaker 2: No?
- 16:17Speaker 1: No, no, you probably read between the lines and the
- 16:19Speaker 1: work who that was as well? But it apparently was
- 16:22Speaker 1: like the plan would be that. I think I think personally.
- 16:25Speaker 1: What they should do going forward is they the voice
- 16:28Speaker 1: actors themselves who still do the show. Do the act
- 16:33Speaker 1: it out right, because voice acting is acting right. Have
- 16:38Speaker 1: them act out the roles and then use AI to
- 16:41Speaker 1: have it sound like their original voice. I don't think
- 16:44Speaker 1: that's an It could be seen as offensive, but I
- 16:46Speaker 1: think that would mean that they are still performing the show.
- 16:50Speaker 1: But maybe it makes them feel inadequate. I'm not too sure.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I know I think that I think they would
- 16:56Speaker 2: feel quite inadequate for doing that. You know, it's, you know,
- 17:01Speaker 2: the equivalent of using using steroids or something.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but what's best for the product though, you know
- 17:06Speaker 1: what I mean, you're doing for the product.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I know where you're coming from. Part of me is
- 17:10Speaker 2: very much adapt or die. You know, it's like because
- 17:13Speaker 2: it's not introducing new voices. I mean, you don't even
- 17:17Speaker 2: necessarily have to do a one to eighty shift in
- 17:19Speaker 2: terms of like Millers used to sund like this, and
- 17:21Speaker 2: now they saying like this because we've got used to
- 17:23Speaker 2: a person A and now we've got person B doing it.
- 17:26Speaker 2: At the same time, I think it would be a
- 17:29Speaker 2: little disrespectful to have someone come in and do like
- 17:32Speaker 2: a really good imitation of person a person they come
- 17:35Speaker 2: a person be coming and doing a really good impersonation
- 17:37Speaker 2: a person person a. Yeah, I don't know. It's a
- 17:41Speaker 2: tough one. The problem is they've replaced characters voice wise
- 17:45Speaker 2: for other reasons and yeah, in recent years, right, and
- 17:49Speaker 2: they don't take Obviously, I'm sort of well into the
- 17:52Speaker 2: voice acting community now with the podcast of Jim, but
- 17:55Speaker 2: even the Simpsons approach.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Now, I don't know whether it's a Simpsons decision or
- 17:57Speaker 1: whether it's a Fox decision or Disney decision, but they
- 18:00Speaker 1: they don't look for who does the best voice, because
- 18:01Speaker 1: we've got our man Jayden Lebron who does a great
- 18:04Speaker 1: Smithers or he has a great Doctor Hibbit, right, and
- 18:07Speaker 1: Jaden is African American, all right, so there's no issue
- 18:11Speaker 1: there with him voicing Doctor Hibbitt. But they hire celebrities,
- 18:15Speaker 1: they're a name. It's like, how about you just hire
- 18:17Speaker 1: the best voice, hire the best voice for the voice
- 18:20Speaker 1: for the role, and then the character would be the best.
- 18:23Speaker 1: But now you watch up the hipp and you go,
- 18:25Speaker 1: this doesn't sound anything like it.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, yeah, it's a very interesting development.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I mean, going back to the old days, we used
- 18:32Speaker 2: to have movie stars in this country, you know. And
- 18:35Speaker 2: this was more for live action stuff and voice actors
- 18:40Speaker 2: and animated movies would be terrific voice actors, but not
- 18:44Speaker 2: necessarily above the marquee names or above the title names.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Now it seems to have gone the other way in
- 18:49Speaker 2: that live action movies. I'm using sort of an old
- 18:54Speaker 2: example here, but it's more like the character is the star.
- 18:57Speaker 2: You know, people go to see Captain America or Thor
- 18:59Speaker 2: or Man or something or Deadpool. Admittedly Ryan rends a dimple,
- 19:04Speaker 2: but they're not necessarily stars. The character is the star,
- 19:07Speaker 2: and is like Chris Hemsworth is a star, but Thor
- 19:10Speaker 2: is the star, you know what I mean. Whereas with
- 19:12Speaker 2: animated stuff, it's like, look at all the names we've
- 19:15Speaker 2: got to voice buzz Light here in Woody, the Cowboy,
- 19:18Speaker 2: et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, and now increasingly, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 2: members of the Springfield community.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Well that's the thing, is that now? And we had
- 19:27Speaker 1: a voice director from the eighties nineties and she still
- 19:31Speaker 1: voice directs to this day, Jimmy McSwain on Jim's podcast
- 19:33Speaker 1: last week. She directed all the Disney animated shows throughout
- 19:36Speaker 1: the early nineties whatnot. And she has this saying she
- 19:39Speaker 1: called a TV guide casting there where they go through
- 19:41Speaker 1: the TV guide and they try to find who can
- 19:43Speaker 1: we have for this film. They write characters for celebrities
- 19:45Speaker 1: as opposed to trying to find the right voice, and
- 19:49Speaker 1: so many like, for example, Chris Pratt didn't need to
- 19:51Speaker 1: be Mario and Garfield, why is Chris Pratt Mario? It
- 19:54Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense.
- 19:55Speaker 2: That doesn't know at all.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I mean, and you listen to the voice and you go,
- 19:58Speaker 1: you're not even putting on a voice. It is speaking
- 20:01Speaker 1: as Chris Pratt. It's like it was so weird. Same
- 20:04Speaker 1: with Garfield. Watched Garfiord and you go, it's just it's
- 20:07Speaker 1: just Chris Pratt speaking.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Yeah. I like Chris Pratt. But at the same time,
- 20:11Speaker 2: I mean I really liked him. I think it was
- 20:14Speaker 2: Emmett in the in the Lego movies. He seemed really well. Also,
- 20:17Speaker 2: that's a character that comes with no pre existing baggage.
- 20:19Speaker 2: That's the thing. Someone like Mario. Yeah, you would appreciate
- 20:22Speaker 2: a bit of woo.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I think he tried to do something, but it's like
- 20:26Speaker 1: it was all more ironic than actually Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 2: But then you're in bairebly going to get some backlash
- 20:33Speaker 2: from someone who's like, this voice is too stereotypical, or
- 20:37Speaker 2: this act that you've cast is not Italian enough, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 2: but they cast wasn't Italian at all. That is true.
- 20:44Speaker 2: That is true. And with Garfield, yeah, I mean Pratt destruct,
- 20:48Speaker 2: I hire a cat next time, please. Well, I just
- 20:50Speaker 2: I'm what I've heard of Pratt as Garfield was like,
- 20:54Speaker 2: this does not really giant. It's nothing liked with the
- 20:57Speaker 2: Garfield that I Chris pat Sen, he likes Monday's fine,
- 21:00Speaker 2: you always get up and rise and grind. Bill Murray
- 21:03Speaker 2: was a perfect garfieer. Bill Murray was pretty good as
- 21:05Speaker 2: Garfield running who else you'd probably get for that, don't
- 21:08Speaker 2: I don't really it doesn't really matter.
- 21:09Speaker 1: But yeah, just that's with the Simpsons, I feel like
- 21:13Speaker 1: they're going to replace Millhouse and they'll find some celebrity
- 21:16Speaker 1: friend of theirs so they can say, hey, guess he's
- 21:18Speaker 1: on our cast.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Now.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It seems that they employ their friends as opposed to
- 21:21Speaker 1: searching for the best voice, which is a bit annoying.
- 21:25Speaker 1: A little bit annoying if you're a fan of everything

- 21:56Speaker 1: of the annual Japanese Relaxation or Space Out Contest? How
- 22:00Speaker 1: do you think you would place Japanese Relaxation or space Out?
- 22:03Speaker 1: That's pretty much guys afternoon every day, right.
- 22:06Speaker 2: They go fuck yourself spacing out. No, I'd certainly be
- 22:12Speaker 2: a gold medalist in this year.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Literally do nothing for wellness. Space Out Competition twenty twenty
- 22:17Speaker 1: four in Japan. Where is the chance for us to
- 22:19Speaker 1: challenge anxiety from last constant barrage of information on social
- 22:22Speaker 1: media by spacing out? Two companies have announced the Space
- 22:26Speaker 1: Out Competition twenty twenty four notices I didn't bother trying
- 22:29Speaker 1: to pronounce those words. A unique event designed to help
- 22:31Speaker 1: participants rediscover the value of mental relaxation and promote a happier,
- 22:35Speaker 1: more balanced way of living. Japan Space Out Competition twenty
- 22:38Speaker 1: twenty four will begin with an online competition in August,
- 22:40Speaker 1: followed by regional qualifiers.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. What is the actual thing? Though, Well,
- 22:45Speaker 2: a very fast paced and work centered society like Japan,
- 22:50Speaker 2: it is probably going to have to enforce a little
- 22:52Speaker 2: bit of downtime or and allow it turn it into
- 22:54Speaker 2: a game. Yeah, because they feel guilty almost, don't they
- 22:57Speaker 2: for relaxing. The rest of the world seems to have
- 22:59Speaker 2: sort of picked up that's button and run with it. Yeah,
- 23:01Speaker 2: we could all use a little bit of relaxation the
- 23:04Speaker 2: very now. And again, I've seen ninety minutes. So the
- 23:06Speaker 2: competition is a visual that's rookie. That's rookie.
- 23:09Speaker 1: The competition is a visual performance held purposely against the
- 23:13Speaker 1: batchup of a busy city as an art show demonstrating
- 23:15Speaker 1: that doing nothing has value. Participants in the Space Out
- 23:18Speaker 1: Competition compete to relax their minds and bodies over ninety minutes.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Contestants stressed to represent their professions or statuses and are
- 23:24Speaker 1: evaluated on their heart flight, heart rate fluctuations, and overall relaxation.
- 23:29Speaker 1: So it's who can drop their heart rate the most.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm wondering given that our given that that feels
- 23:34Speaker 2: like you're not relaxing, you're trying to relax. Yeah, just relax.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Given that our Japanese friends seem to game show if
- 23:42Speaker 2: I almost anything, I'm wondering if they're going to have
- 23:45Speaker 2: situations where someone is drunk, chill out, and then they'll
- 23:49Speaker 2: be glove punches in the head. So you know, Godzilla
- 23:53Speaker 2: pokes his giant claw through the window or something. Yeah,
- 23:58Speaker 2: I think, Dan, I don't know, Dan.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I mean, so you live alone, You've got the base
- 24:04Speaker 1: of going back to you, so you can you can
- 24:06Speaker 1: do this whenever you feel like it, That is true. Yeah,
- 24:08Speaker 1: I don't because I'm in the mentality now of I work.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I have to cook and clean, get the house clean.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And the vicious cycle of having kids is clean cleaning
- 24:18Speaker 1: the house, right, because you get the kids ready, they
- 24:21Speaker 1: mess the house up in the morning, you get home,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you work, you clean the house, you pick them up,
- 24:24Speaker 1: they mess it up again, you get them to bed,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you clean up again. And just I feel like I'm
- 24:28Speaker 1: vacuuming the house twice and twice at that at the moment. Yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but Ollie Duxbury wants to know. Me and my wife
- 24:34Speaker 1: are spending Christmas together for the first time this year
- 24:36Speaker 1: at my parents. How did you guys find your first
- 24:39Speaker 1: Christmas with your respective partners and if you have any
- 24:41Speaker 1: traditions that they found odd Well, first thing, Nicholas, her
- 24:45Speaker 1: first Christmas here.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Was oh my god, it's warm. Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 1: And first time I went there, I was like, oh,
- 24:50Speaker 1: you can't go outside of a barbecue to sit inside
- 24:52Speaker 1: and look at the shitty muddy It wasn't even snow.
- 24:55Speaker 1: It was just sludge and cold and wet.
- 24:57Speaker 2: And I'm like, a Chris, it's not being inside and
- 25:02Speaker 2: being with each other. I'm like, there's the other outside too,
- 25:05Speaker 2: there's no scap. I'm trying to recall the first time
- 25:10Speaker 2: that Lou attended a Davis family Christmas. I think I
- 25:13Speaker 2: was a little worried, even though yeah, there's no really
- 25:16Speaker 2: nothing to worry about. My family doesn't get into you,
- 25:18Speaker 2: like huge Christmas arguments or drunken brawls or anything like that.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I wouldn't have had arguments on Christmas, but I think
- 25:25Speaker 2: anytime you're introducing the person you love to the people
- 25:27Speaker 2: that you love. Oh God, I hope these hope this
- 25:29Speaker 2: isn't oil and water. I hope these two great tastes
- 25:32Speaker 2: taste great together, as I like to say. And it
- 25:34Speaker 2: did worked out very nicely. I mean, you know, you're
- 25:36Speaker 2: initially worrying, Oh, she's going to think. I'm worried that
- 25:40Speaker 2: my mom's not going to say anything inappropriate, but she's
- 25:42Speaker 2: going to do something to embarrass me. You guys watch
- 25:45Speaker 2: Fox News. How about that Trump he got to say
- 25:50Speaker 2: the joint trying to make Australia great again. No, I'm
- 25:57Speaker 2: more like, oh, you know, it's like when Marge is
- 26:00Speaker 2: showing pictures of bart with as a toddler with his
- 26:03Speaker 2: pants off or some ship like that. So not worry,
- 26:06Speaker 2: but I'm like, I just hope it works. I hope,
- 26:09Speaker 2: I hope. You know, everyone's on the same page. And
- 26:11Speaker 2: when we left, your family's so nice. Everyone's so nice.
- 26:14Speaker 1: That's the That's the thing I found with nicholas family too.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I go there and I'm like, ah, this is what
- 26:20Speaker 1: pleasant feels like, you know, But my family is very
- 26:23Speaker 1: loud and rough, not not fighting like at Christopher but
- 26:26Speaker 1: it's just like loud and like some volumes up so
- 26:28Speaker 1: I might burb and it's just like it's just it's chaos, right,
- 26:31Speaker 1: and it's like, man is not that I have manners,
- 26:34Speaker 1: but it's like, you know, it's not proper.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you get to ink Nicholas and it's just very
- 26:39Speaker 2: very not proper either, but it's just very You're using
- 26:42Speaker 2: the right cutlery.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's very special. And like Dad calves the
- 26:46Speaker 1: chicken and everyone watches the chicken and I'm like, Okay, this.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Is okay, this is different. Okay, sounds nice.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Next question here comes from Harrison McClure. Hey, Legends, hope
- 26:56Speaker 1: you're both keeping well. Not that not that this is
- 26:59Speaker 1: a question, but the LST couple of seasons have been
- 27:01Speaker 1: really fun to listen to. For me, a lot of
- 27:03Speaker 1: the episodes were new when I was around ten and eleven,
- 27:05Speaker 1: and there was a couple of years where we didn't
- 27:07Speaker 1: have Sky one to watch new episodes. So when we
- 27:09Speaker 1: got Sky around two thousand and eight, I remember binging
- 27:12Speaker 1: all these episodes. But for the sake of throwing you
- 27:14Speaker 1: guys a question, are you excited for Christmas this year?
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yeah? What was excited? For Christmas. We've got to see
- 27:19Speaker 2: Sanna today, Sanna Sianna. I know him. I too, am
- 27:25Speaker 2: excited for Christmas. I think it's going to be I know,
- 27:29Speaker 2: nice and Christmas.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Taking Elliott, well, we're all going together, the Hollies companies.
- 27:32Speaker 1: We're all going to the Boxing Day Test for the
- 27:34Speaker 1: first time I have. I've never been to the Boxing
- 27:36Speaker 1: Day Test cricket. Elliott's really excited for it.
- 27:40Speaker 2: This is demonstrating the chasm between Danel and I. Lou
- 27:45Speaker 2: and I were watching the news the other night and
- 27:46Speaker 2: there was some news story in the sports section about cricket.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Lou looked him in and said, probably the only thing
- 27:53Speaker 2: more boring the cricket is people talking about cricket. I said,
- 27:56Speaker 2: I love you so Boxing Day Test. I've only been once.
- 28:01Speaker 2: And meanwhile Louise is recommending that we watch more Nine
- 28:04Speaker 2: Fiance guys, guys saying this. Now, it's gonna be a
- 28:11Speaker 2: nice Christmas. We're gonna have Christmas with loose family, sort
- 28:17Speaker 2: of a big family event, maybe like a few days
- 28:20Speaker 2: before Christmas itself. So you need to have your your
- 28:22Speaker 2: mum's right and no one eats or whatever it is.
- 28:24Speaker 2: That is correct, all right?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Next question comes from James Booth. What TV show would
- 28:28Speaker 1: you like to see the Simpsons either do a parody
- 28:30Speaker 1: of or a crossover with? What's an iconic one they've
- 28:32Speaker 1: yet to touch.
- 28:33Speaker 2: I don't know about Konic. This is more in the
- 28:37Speaker 2: zeit geis at the moment. I'd like to I'd like
- 28:41Speaker 2: to see them do The Bear. I think the Bear
- 28:44Speaker 2: has a very distinct style and very distinct tone. It
- 28:48Speaker 2: would feel it would feel a little bit sort of
- 28:51Speaker 2: cashing in on the hip thing of the moment. But
- 28:53Speaker 2: I don't know. I think you could. I think it'd
- 28:56Speaker 2: be good if you've got, say, Cami came and Richie
- 29:01Speaker 2: to take over Mos or something, and you've got to
- 29:03Speaker 2: watch The Bear. So I wouldn't know. Good show. Yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 2: what's the basic what's me? One sentence plot like subplot
- 29:10Speaker 2: as story? H groans a bar no emotionally volatile chef
- 29:19Speaker 2: takes over his deceased older brothers cafe, turns it into
- 29:25Speaker 2: fine diarning restaurant. I've had a lot of good things
- 29:29Speaker 2: about the Yeah, oh, I love the Bear. Best best
- 29:31Speaker 2: show of the last five years. So someone takes over
- 29:34Speaker 2: MOS and turns it into a fancy restaurant. Yeah, or
- 29:38Speaker 2: I mean it's kind of it's redoing the Flaming Mos thing.
- 29:41Speaker 2: You know, Mo goes up market, but yeah, comes in
- 29:45Speaker 2: some money or you know, he finds he's got along it.
- 29:47Speaker 1: As a trace of horror. Mo can die and that
- 29:50Speaker 1: can be there. It comes back as what are you
- 29:54Speaker 1: doing to my bar?
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yeah? I think I think the Simpsons in the Key
- 30:00Speaker 2: of the Bear would be good.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I have always said that they've never done a good
- 30:03Speaker 1: Jurassic Park parody, and Mitch Reader really like it was
- 30:06Speaker 1: both of us the basic concept Mitch putting together like
- 30:09Speaker 1: a little specscript in our book odyssey called Jurassic Pork
- 30:13Speaker 1: where they cloned spider pick Ah and it's actually really good.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I recommend if you haven't checked it out, get our
- 30:19Speaker 1: book a check out Jurassic Pork.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I think it's a great idea.
- 30:21Speaker 1: They did do a a Jurassic I think they called
- 30:25Speaker 1: Geiatric Park or something where it was like it wasn't
- 30:28Speaker 1: it wasn't funny.
- 30:29Speaker 2: He didn't have this one.
- 30:30Speaker 1: You have to have that Mitch spiking well, you have
- 30:32Speaker 1: to have Jeff Goldblum in the show, like he would
- 30:34Speaker 1: be the guest star in this Drassic Pork.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I think Drassic Pork would be a good one for
- 30:38Speaker 2: Treance of horror.
- 30:39Speaker 1: All right, Dylan Haggett, how would you guys rank these
- 30:42Speaker 1: classic early two thousands animated movies? All right, these listed
- 30:45Speaker 1: some movies hang on.
- 30:46Speaker 2: The this a lot. Oh yeah, I did see that list.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Monster Zinc, Shrek. What's your number one out of all these?
- 30:51Speaker 2: Monster Zinc?
- 30:51Speaker 1: Shrek, lid On a stch I, Sage Finding Nemo, The Incredibles,
- 30:54Speaker 1: Madagasque of the Incredibles.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yeah, number one is the Incredibles. I'm going Shrek as
- 30:59Speaker 2: my number Munster Zinc Or Shrek would be my number one.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Monsters Inc. Is probably number two for me. Or Monsters Inc.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Can Shrek our neck and neck for the Silver Yeah, Stitch,
- 31:09Speaker 2: I've never watched it, just fun. Yeah, they're a live
- 31:12Speaker 2: action one. There is, there's a live action that. There's
- 31:14Speaker 2: a live action to Train your Dragon. Everyone's like, why
- 31:17Speaker 2: I'm gonna go burn It's gonna go burn down some cinemas.
- 31:19Speaker 1: So you're taking an animated film and animating it like
- 31:23Speaker 1: it's We're gone from an animated c g I film
- 31:25Speaker 1: to a c g I film because I know it's
- 31:27Speaker 1: like live action people, but.
- 31:29Speaker 2: The drags are just still c g I why are
- 31:32Speaker 2: we doing this? I have no idea.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Actually yeah, people vote with your pockets and don't go
- 31:40Speaker 1: watch these movies. Please, I want these movies to fail.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Please, and don't go see move faster the Lion came.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Oh no, don't go see.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Can you explain to me? There is a line in
- 31:54Speaker 1: the Lion King one and maybe a loll get explained right,
- 31:59Speaker 1: Lion King, he says, when it came to broad strength,
- 32:03Speaker 1: you you got the good end of the deal. When
- 32:06Speaker 1: it came to the smarts, oh no, no, no, no, you
- 32:08Speaker 1: got I've got the smarts, You've got the muscle, but
- 32:10Speaker 1: I'm at the lower end of the gene. Paul is
- 32:12Speaker 1: to say, like, brother, I've got no muscle. You got
- 32:15Speaker 1: all the muscle, but I've got the smarts.
- 32:17Speaker 2: But this is my faster and scar.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Or this is my faster and scar he saysn't in
- 32:20Speaker 1: the linking right, he's my faster. You know we're brothers,
- 32:22Speaker 1: but you know you've got the muscle. I've got the smarts.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I've got no muscle.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Yes, So in Mafassa, they're not they're not brothers. No,
- 32:29Speaker 2: what the fuck? I know? Now? This is why I'm
- 32:33Speaker 2: i've this, I will not be going to it. Yeah. Look,
- 32:36Speaker 2: this is made by a filmmaker I really like nam
- 32:38Speaker 2: Barry Jenkins. He's made some actually modern classics of like
- 32:41Speaker 2: one of the best American filmmakers we've got. I'm glad
- 32:44Speaker 2: he's getting that paper. But at the same time, no,
- 32:47Speaker 2: this is not good.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Nikola, the most obsessed linking fan you'll ever meet, loves
- 32:52Speaker 1: a liking it is her life, right, refuses to watch.
- 32:55Speaker 2: So here's the thing. I've lost track. I mean, particularly
- 32:58Speaker 2: with the Lion King. Okay, so we had we had
- 33:00Speaker 2: the original Lion King from noting any three of them
- 33:04Speaker 2: four actually, because there's like a director video sequel like
- 33:08Speaker 2: Simba's Pride or some ship like that. There was two, yeah,
- 33:11Speaker 2: or two of those, okay, But then we had the
- 33:13Speaker 2: quote unquote live action line King, right, and that's the
- 33:16Speaker 2: one with Donald Glover is the voice of Simba. And
- 33:19Speaker 2: now we've got another live action line King. But it's
- 33:24Speaker 2: a prequel, that's what it is. They've created a prequel
- 33:28Speaker 2: as just showing how Mafussa became King. I don't like it.
- 33:30Speaker 2: I don't want it. Return to sender. Yeah, no good, Yeah,
- 33:36Speaker 2: I can take or leave the Lion King. I don't.
- 33:39Speaker 2: To me, it is symptomatic or emblematic of just a
- 33:42Speaker 2: bad situation in I know the current entertainment environment. However,
- 33:48Speaker 2: I am a huge, huge, huge fan of How to
- 33:51Speaker 2: Train Your Dragon movies, and I do not like the
- 33:53Speaker 2: idea of a live action remaking it. Well, why are
- 33:55Speaker 2: we remaking it? Yeah? Or just make a new animated one. Continue?
- 33:59Speaker 2: This is keep the hand to Train Your Dragon the
- 34:01Speaker 2: next generation. We used to do fucking ripoffs and spinoffs
- 34:05Speaker 2: in this country. We didn't fucking remake the same thing. Yeah,
- 34:09Speaker 2: Or if we remade the same thing, we did it
- 34:11Speaker 2: with a little bit of a twist. It's like, oh, well,
- 34:13Speaker 2: it's ten years or twenty years later, things have changed
- 34:17Speaker 2: a bit. Let's take the core of this story and
- 34:21Speaker 2: it'll still be called I know, the thing or invasion
- 34:25Speaker 2: of the Body, snatches or whatever, but it's going to
- 34:27Speaker 2: reflect the times that we're in now. This is just
- 34:29Speaker 2: a fucking xerox. This is a copy of a copy
- 34:31Speaker 2: of a copy. And what happens when you do copies
- 34:32Speaker 2: of copies of copies they get faded and more indistinct overtime.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Fuck it, like Dana said, vote with your dollar.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and I've had people say to me, well, these movies,
- 34:43Speaker 1: the live action liking isn't for you, it's for today's generation.
- 34:46Speaker 1: What you want to fucking know something, My kids don't
- 34:48Speaker 1: give two fucks about that live action film.
- 34:50Speaker 2: I'll put it on numerous times, they go, can we
- 34:52Speaker 2: please watch the other one? They don't want to watch
- 34:54Speaker 2: real fucking lions trying to emote lions. Kind of. They're
- 34:59Speaker 2: great to look at, the majestic noble beast, but they're
- 35:01Speaker 2: not the most expertent is it is a circle joke
- 35:03Speaker 2: of look how good our animation studios are. Now, that's
- 35:06Speaker 2: all it was. Yeah, and it's yeah, it's using existing
- 35:11Speaker 2: well loved ip to basically fatten up. Then let's call
- 35:15Speaker 2: it like it is. Disney's bottom line made a billion
- 35:17Speaker 2: dollars away. I hope to god the FUS fails. There
- 35:21Speaker 2: was that great meme that someone I think in the
- 35:25Speaker 2: in the patrons maybe you put it up? Was it?
- 35:28Speaker 2: But it's a Simpsons frame thing with you know, you
- 35:32Speaker 2: see like a picture of the poster of the How
- 35:36Speaker 2: To Train and Dragon live action remake going Disney. No.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I posted on the page. Yeah, sorry for the habit.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Because yeah, Disney is renowned for this, but this is yeah,
- 35:47Speaker 2: this is DreamWorks, and we thought you were better than
- 35:50Speaker 2: this man.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, all right, we'll do a couple more questions
- 35:53Speaker 1: and we'll save the rest for next month's mailbag.
- 35:56Speaker 2: It was probably like I didn't expect my innocent question.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I thought it was going to be a celebration of animation. Instead,
- 36:03Speaker 2: it's stand on Guy Railey against late stage capitalism.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Madigascar, I've always been whatever with Madagascar. Yeah, that's enjoy
- 36:12Speaker 1: Asko and ice Age the two.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I enjoy ice Age one.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I have fond memories of going to watch the Ice
- 36:16Speaker 1: Age films at the cinema with my family. Mada Gascar, Nay,
- 36:20Speaker 1: I was too old for it.
- 36:21Speaker 2: But here's the thing that these are things like Madagascar
- 36:23Speaker 2: and ice Age, they're all very much the same template. Yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 2: it's like we're a situation. Yeah, it's a bunch of
- 36:31Speaker 2: like we're different personality types, different physical types or whatever,
- 36:35Speaker 2: but we're in a situation where we all have to
- 36:37Speaker 2: work together and guess what we might become buddies by
- 36:39Speaker 2: the end of it. Madicasko and Ice Arge are basically
- 36:41Speaker 2: the same thing. See Madic as has actually got spinoffs
- 36:44Speaker 2: the Penguin films as well. Yeah, it's all it's all
- 36:49Speaker 2: so driven by I've got nothing. It's spinoffs and all that.
- 36:52Speaker 2: I mean, now everyone's trying to make it back. But
- 36:54Speaker 2: you know, look at you, look at Despicable Me. I
- 36:57Speaker 2: mean like there's four of those movies, and how many
- 36:59Speaker 2: Minions movies are there? There's probably two of those, and
- 37:00Speaker 2: the menu is he.
- 37:02Speaker 1: That's that's just bank that license like to them, and
- 37:05Speaker 1: my kids love them.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Oh yeah, fucking love them. And I'm watching them like
- 37:09Speaker 2: they're enjoyable. It's something absolutely And how many times have
- 37:13Speaker 2: we said Dan it, we need to sit down. I mean,
- 37:15Speaker 2: well you and majority wrote a Simpsons spect but you
- 37:18Speaker 2: know I need to sit down and write a Christmas
- 37:19Speaker 2: song like you granted about a boy and live off
- 37:22Speaker 2: the royalties or yeah, just like about the Boy's about
- 37:25Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, he grants character a Christmas movie is
- 37:28Speaker 2: a Christmas movie partially, Yeah, but you grant his dad
- 37:34Speaker 2: wrote a Christmas song like dad wrote, like Mariah Carey
- 37:37Speaker 2: wrote all I want for Christian write that song. Oh yeah, okay,
- 37:41Speaker 2: that's why she's just richer than gone.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Oh mate, it feels like only the last ten years
- 37:44Speaker 1: has really become liking the anthem of Christmas.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yea and yeah, and about a boy his dad wrote
- 37:50Speaker 2: Santa's souped up Sleigh and every Christmas like, oh, it's
- 37:53Speaker 2: done to bring that out again, and oh, you know
- 37:55Speaker 2: the department stores using it to promote their products or whatever.
- 37:58Speaker 2: And Hugh Grant gets a lovely I need to see
- 38:01Speaker 2: kid talking. I'm listening. Want to see how much Riah
- 38:02Speaker 2: Carey makes each year for royalties. Great, what we need
- 38:05Speaker 2: to do is either write a Christmas song or we
- 38:07Speaker 2: just need to sit down and go okay, yeah, we
- 38:10Speaker 2: need to come up with like an animated franchise. Wow,
- 38:13Speaker 2: it's so easy.
- 38:14Speaker 1: But she makes three million dollars US a year from
- 38:19Speaker 1: the royalties of that song.
- 38:21Speaker 2: And that's on top of just being Mariah Carey. Yeah,
- 38:24Speaker 2: there you go. That nice. It's like a three million
- 38:27Speaker 2: dollar Christmas bonus every year. Yeah, except where the boss
- 38:31Speaker 2: giving it to Yeah, my kids love it. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 1: All right, We'll do one more question here. Ian Ashley says,
- 38:41Speaker 1: if you had to legally change your surname to Mick
- 38:44Speaker 1: Crispy and couldn't change it back, we've got seventy five
- 38:46Speaker 1: thousand dollars and a lifetime deal where you can get
- 38:48Speaker 1: a McDonald's meal. You've lost me, don't want me donals
- 38:51Speaker 1: for life anyway? Question where you can get a McDonald's
- 38:53Speaker 1: meal once a week for free? Would you take the deal?
- 38:55Speaker 1: Not a fucking chance.
- 38:57Speaker 2: I'm someone who occasionally eats McDonald's. I'm gonna say no,
- 39:00Speaker 2: seventy five thousand. You're trying to lowball me. Yeah, I
- 39:03Speaker 2: say seventy thousand dollars. You're missing a zero. Yeah, you
- 39:06Speaker 2: may be missing two zeros. And also what just a
- 39:08Speaker 2: macdulgs me of the date? No, I don't know me
- 39:11Speaker 2: a week and anything you're fucking with come to the
- 39:18Speaker 2: negotiation table to play man. I know, I know it's
- 39:22Speaker 2: yea a good te I'd read the odor of the
- 39:24Speaker 2: deal you have. Still with the low ball. Oh, here's
- 39:26Speaker 2: a hard question for Mandy d.
- 39:28Speaker 1: For me personally, you can only keep one of the
- 39:30Speaker 1: following movies and the other two are erased from history.
- 39:33Speaker 1: There's three films that I love, so it's Space Jam,
- 39:35Speaker 1: Billy Madison, and Shrek.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Billy Madison stays. Actually no, hmm, that's interesting, isn't it? Hmm?
- 39:45Speaker 2: For me personally, Billy Madison.
- 39:48Speaker 1: So I'm going to go one step further of this question. See,
- 39:50Speaker 1: these are all nostalgia for.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Me as well.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Yes, your memories, your memories are raised of this movie
- 39:56Speaker 1: existing as well. I suppose that would make it eas
- 40:00Speaker 1: because then you're not going to miss it. That's true
- 40:03Speaker 1: that it'll become like one of those Jazam Kazam things
- 40:07Speaker 1: where it's like, I swear that comedian was in that
- 40:09Speaker 1: genie movie that I don't because Shackson isn't he but
- 40:12Speaker 1: we all have this every nineties kid has this mandala
- 40:15Speaker 1: effect that Sinbak was in a movie where he was
- 40:17Speaker 1: a genie. He never was, but I'm watching it in
- 40:21Speaker 1: my head. So it would be a case of I
- 40:27Speaker 1: wonder if like they raised for me memory and then
- 40:28Speaker 1: one day you go, oh god, Jordan Dous basketball movie
- 40:31Speaker 1: once Now that never happened.
- 40:33Speaker 2: I swear I happened. Which one would you delete? You
- 40:36Speaker 2: would delete delete space Jam? I got no no connection
- 40:39Speaker 2: to that. Uh And Billy Madison Shrek I enjoy, but
- 40:45Speaker 2: I can a Shrek and all its sequels then therefore
- 40:48Speaker 2: gone for me. I don't want to lose Puss in Boots.
- 40:51Speaker 2: I I don't want to love that guy.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I don't want to lose Space Jam purely because it's
- 40:56Speaker 1: just one of I have so many fond memories of
- 40:57Speaker 1: that film. But if I had to keep one for
- 41:00Speaker 1: the good of the world, keeping Shrek because Billy Madison
- 41:06Speaker 1: can go, because at least we've still got Happy Gilmore
- 41:08Speaker 1: good point. Space Jam hurts me a lot, but Shrek
- 41:11Speaker 1: brings so much joy to so many people, and as
- 41:12Speaker 1: you said, we've got so many spin offs that universe
- 41:16Speaker 1: exists still. I think the world will be in a
- 41:18Speaker 1: better place if Shrek existed out of Space Jam.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Ye. Dan brought me around to his way of thinking.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Shrek's stays. The other two can go because yeah, Billy
- 41:25Speaker 2: Madison hap a gill More. Essentially, this s movie just manchild.
- 41:30Speaker 1: So you can Stilly and we'll get to the more
- 41:34Speaker 1: the rest of your questions in next month's mail bag
- 41:37Speaker 1: at Christmas times. There's gonna be a Christmas mail bag
- 41:39Speaker 1: next Yes, I'm thinking, guys, for your support here at
- 41:42Speaker 1: four finger this can't hope you guys enjoyed that, don't
- 41:44Speaker 1: forget so going forward now, the structure is going to
- 41:47Speaker 1: be Futurama talking Seinfeld speaking of the Hill and then
- 41:51Speaker 1: we end the month with a mail bag. That's going
- 41:53Speaker 1: to be that the four weeks.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you're gonna have to remind me of that. But okay, man, okay,
- 41:58Speaker 2: that'll be the structure going forward. Okay, well, Nicholas rubbing
- 42:01Speaker 2: off on your clearer, because now you're just imposing structure
- 42:04Speaker 2: on things.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Yes, and it'll be every Friday, So every Friday in
- 42:06Speaker 1: your Patreon feeds will be when the exclusive ones drop. Okay, Fridays,
- 42:10Speaker 1: so Thursday's fourthing a discount. Fridays will be your bonus
- 42:14Speaker 1: one and Tuesdays will be your south Park. Yeah remember that.
- 42:19Speaker 1: And as of this week, it's the return of the
- 42:23Speaker 1: what about friends happened? It's back back, Baby, be a
- 42:27Speaker 1: great time. So one of our friends is back.
- 42:28Speaker 2: It's returned.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Can't wait to get that in your ears every single
- 42:32Speaker 1: week once a again, Nicholas. She got basically able, she
- 42:34Speaker 1: could promoted at work, and she had to work every
- 42:37Speaker 1: day in Melbourne the days we used to record.
- 42:39Speaker 2: She's not getting back on until seven.
- 42:40Speaker 1: She's too tired. It's just been a lot getting her schedule.
- 42:42Speaker 1: But now Nicholas worked out a deal where rather than
- 42:45Speaker 1: have the extra day in Melbourne, she works in the
- 42:47Speaker 1: Geelong office here, so it's a lot less pressure off hers.
- 42:50Speaker 1: And now we've got the Times once again. Do the
- 42:51Speaker 1: one about friends. It's back baby, so enjoy that as well. Right, guys,
- 42:55Speaker 1: thinks the game for obvious sportments to Davis. Any final
- 42:56Speaker 1: words for those.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Listeners out there, seventy five thousand. Wasn't a McDonald's meal
- 43:01Speaker 2: a week? No, we can forget it. Not than a
- 43:04Speaker 2: happy apple pie.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Oh if you're throwing in an apple pie? Can you
- 43:07Speaker 1: get another pie with a meal? Is that part of
- 43:09Speaker 1: a meal or is it just that's an add on,
- 43:12Speaker 1: that's an add on, a pile for free.
- 43:14Speaker 2: But he's got a part. What's happened? This is the
- 43:18Speaker 2: longest final words ever the I can't think of it
- 43:24Speaker 2: anything
