- 0:10distinctions, perspectives, and possibilities, we help you to
- 0:13cultivate a mindset that leads you to create the best version
- 0:16of yourself you could ever imagine.
- 0:18Join Kim every morning from one of her favorite happy places,
- 0:21her chicken coop, along with all her chickens.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good evening from the chicken coop.
- 0:30That's right, I said good evening because it is night time
- 0:34and I am attempting to get all of them inside the coop.
- 0:38Now somebody asked me what happens at night, so I'm
- 0:41figuring I should shoot the podcast out here one night so
- 0:44everyone can hear it. Now the big girls, they all put
- 0:47themselves to sleep without a question.
- 0:49In fact, all the chickens that we acquired from the neighbor,
- 0:53well that just moved in on their own and decided they were
- 0:55abandoning the neighbor and moved into our place.
- 0:58They put themselves in here at night.
- 1:00I don't even have to worry about them.
- 1:01But these little girls and two Roosters that we hatched out and
- 1:07got on April 15th, they are like the tweens and they don't want
- 1:12to go to bed. They want to stay out.
- 1:14It's been raining for the last two hours.
- 1:16They're all excited about bugs and they just don't want to,
- 1:20like, tuck themselves in. So I have to wait it out
- 1:23patiently. And patience when I am not
- 1:26coaching is not something I am great at.
- 1:29So this is, you know, God's way in the universe's way of telling
- 1:33me, hey, listen, you got to be patient with them while they
- 1:36walk in and out. And they want to sit with me.
- 1:38And some of them want to snuggle Gladys and Rufus, and they just
- 1:43want to hang out. And I don't have a lot of
- 1:46patience at night, which is why I don't coach at night because I
- 1:49don't have a lot of patience at night.
- 1:51I just want to be done. I want to sit down and read.
- 1:53I want to color. I want to do something creative.
- 1:56I don't want to, you know, be patient, so to speak.
- 2:01So this is always a challenge for me.
- 2:03And I love it because it pushes me because I love them so much.
- 2:07So it forces me to step into a different mindset around it.
- 2:11So when I come out here, I'm watching them all trying to find
- 2:14their space. And there's part of me, my
- 2:16emotions are split. Part of me is going hurry up,
- 2:18hurry up, hurry up, come on, come on, come on, come on.
- 2:20And I feel like that side of me that grew up in the Northeast is
- 2:23just like, come on, let's go. And then there's the other part
- 2:26of me that's like, oh, I want them to take their time.
- 2:29I want them to feel comfortable. And I'm doing all that stuff
- 2:33very torn, very hard for me. It's a very tough thing.
- 2:38That's why I figured I'd share this with you because it
- 2:40requires me to think differently.
- 2:42It requires me to set myself up to think differently while I'm
- 2:47out here. So I tend to, oh, there you go,
- 2:51you like that. He's doing that right in the
- 2:53middle of the coop, so you can imagine how loud that was.
- 2:57But anyway, it requires me to set myself up differently.
- 2:59So I have to come out here and while I'm making the walk from
- 3:02the house out to the chicken coop, I'm telling myself that
- 3:05I'm just going to be chill. I'm just going to go out here
- 3:09and I'm going to be super chill. And I'm just going to wait
- 3:12patiently. I'm going to watch them.
- 3:14I'm going to see where they decide to sleep because all the
- 3:16littles are still trying to figure out where they're going
- 3:19to go. And the big girls are like,
- 3:20yeah, you're not coming up here with me.
- 3:22So it's, it definitely has a hierarchy.
- 3:25It's really loud and it definitely has a feel of like,
- 3:31you know your not allowed to go in certain spots because you're
- 3:34still too little. So I like watching how they're
- 3:37figuring it all out. I like watching what they're
- 3:39doing and how they're doing it and what they're seeing.
- 3:43He thinks it's morning because I'm out here doing this.
- 3:46So he's showing off right now. But in any event, the most
- 3:50important thing to remember is going into it with a state of
- 3:54saying, if I can use one of my superpowers, which would be
- 3:57curiosity and say, how curious can I be about doing this out
- 4:01here at night, then maybe it would work out OK.
- 4:05Maybe I can go out there and I can be patient.
- 4:08And every night I do my best to come out here and be as patient
- 4:12as I possibly can be. Getting them all inside,
- 4:15watching them walk in circles, looking at me like why are we
- 4:18doing in this and trying to get him to go inside.
- 4:22So I look at this as it's a test for me and every night when I
- 4:27come out here and I'm pushing in my head with the come on, come
- 4:32on, come on. I stop and I pause and I try to
- 4:35interrupt it with gratitude. I interrupt it with curiosity.
- 4:39I talk to myself and say, OK, how many times can I tell myself
- 4:45that I can find something I'm curious for without interrupting
- 4:49it and losing my train of thought.
- 4:50So it's not like how I can force it, but it's like I want to keep
- 4:55a continuous train of thought about curious.
- 4:57Like I'm wondering what the chickens are thinking.
- 4:59I'm wondering why this one particular 1 keeps coming out
- 5:03the door no matter what. Like what is it that she sees?
- 5:05What is she looking for? What is she trying to notice?
- 5:08I'm wondering why there's always one of the girls happens to be
- 5:12Samantha that just wants to be out wherever we are.
- 5:17She's just super lovable and very curious.
- 5:20So I look for all those little things and it helps me.
- 5:24So if you adopt that principle into your own world, how can it
- 5:26help you? And that's why I thought I'd
- 5:28share out here tonight. So I'm going to go try round
- 5:31these chickens up and put them inside and I hope you guys have
- 5:35a blessed day when you hear this and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:39Bye.
