  is something that I'm gonna speak about tonight. Community over competition. Even though

  there are ten of so of us, all hosts of different shows. We

  are a family. We support one another, we are edi five one another,

  We build one another up, we push one another's shows. And that's
• 4:26
  what I like about the True The Duke Crew podcasts. That crew, You're

  never alone, You're never by yourself, you never feel like you're an island

  or by yourself. It's because it's very important for us to establish communities.

  In the past, we have talked about our people, African American people as
• 4:51
  being like crabs in a bucket. Every time one of us tries to climb

  out the bucket, another one pull us back in. But if we want

  to be the change that we want to see, we have to start with

  us. We have to start with working in unity and building each other up.

  The Bible says that iron sharpens an so we need to edify each other

  instead of tearing down and thinking about who's gonna sell one more book or have

  one more person than you on your podcast. We need to work in unity

  and build each other up, promote each other just like we're promoting ourselves.

  It doesn't take anything to share someone's status, share someone's posts. Your friends

  are not their friends and their friends and our your friends. So now we

  have a whole network of friends networking together. One thing that I believe this

  day, if you're in the room and you're the smartest person in your in

  that room, then you need to go into another room. Because each of

  us gleans from each other. I don't know everything, so I can learn
• 6:19
  from someone else who might know a little bit more than I do. But

  that doesn't take anything away from me. That doesn't take anything away from my

  shots. So it's important that we're not in competition with one another, but

  we build one another up. Take for example, have you ever been in
• 6:46
  a grocery store and you walk up and down the aisles and you see different
• 6:53
  kinds of water. You see Poland Springs, dear Park, the store brand

  Designy. You see all these different brands of water. But the next person
• 7:08
  who comes up with a new brand of water doesn't say, oh, there's
• 7:12
  already Poland spring out there, who's gonna drink my water? No, they
• 7:17
  come out with their water, and whoever likes that taste, that's the water
• 7:23
  that they're gonna buy. Or if that waters on sale that week. So
• 7:29
  you can't give up just because someone else is hosting a podcast, someone else
• 7:34
  is writing a book. The world is waiting for your voice. If you
• 7:39
  want to be there to be a change. The change has the first beginning
• 7:46
  you Once as a people, we begin to change our mindset, we can
• 7:53
  change our life. Community over competition is competition rightly ordered. Is putting relationships

  for four opportunities. It's an understanding that the best business serves others. Yes,
• 8:11
  that's right. The best business thinks about the customers and customers in mind.

  There's a need, and how can I best be the solution to that
• 8:24
  need? Not worrying about who is doing the same thing. But how can
• 8:31
  you be a solution to the need? How can you build up your community?

  How can you make the world a better place, one person at a
• 8:45
  time. I truly believe that no man is an island. That we all
• 8:52
  need someone to help us get where we are going. And thank God that

  God is no respect of person. What He's done for Queen Angela, He'll

  do for me what I make happen for other people. God will make happen
• 9:18
  for me. And with stingy and competitive and always wondering what the next person
• 9:26
  is doing. Then you have your focus off what you could be doing,
• 9:31
  what you can be doing to me your business better. This entrepreneur journey is
• 9:37
  a lonely journey if you walk it alone. But if you walk it in
• 9:46
  unison with someone who's doing the same thing you're doing, who's been where you're
• 9:50
  trying to go, and you're teachable and coachable, you're willing to listen and
• 9:56
  not think that you know everything because no one knows everything. You can even
• 10:03
  learn from a child. God will use who he wants to use in order
• 10:09
  to get this message across. Each and every one of us have destiny.

  Each and everyone of us has purpose. My purpose might not be like your
• 10:22
  purpose, but each of us have purpose if we don't give up, if
• 10:26
  we don't give out, if we don't give in to petty competition. A
• 10:35
  lot of times the enemy keeps our mind or focused by making us focus on
• 10:41
  other people than focusing on ourselves. We gotta turn the spotlight on ourselves and
• 10:50
  see are we friendly? Are we building relationship? Are we sharing information?
• 10:58
  Some people will get information and they won't share it. They'll they've been through
• 11:05
  where you're going through and you're spending thousands of dollars and they know what's simple
• 11:09
  a way, but that we hold that information like nobody told me. So
• 11:15
  you gotta get it the same way I got it. That's not healthy.
• 11:20
  That's not community over competition. It was never Competition is healthy when it's not
• 11:28
  at dispense of others. It was never meant to hold people back or put
• 11:33
  people down, but to push people forward, and both winning and losing.

  Competition is a healthy part of life. But life is not a competition.

  Life is about relationships. The best businesses are those who are concerned with how
• 11:54
  much of the are not those or concerned which how much of the po their
• 12:01
  competitions are taken. Rather, the best businesses are concerned with how to best
• 12:09
  serve their customers. The best businesses is not thinking about the business down the
• 12:15
  street or the business across the street. They're thinking about how can I make
• 12:20
  my businesses better? How can I grow? How can I reach the community.
• 12:26
  What's the need that I need to fulfill. When you're so busy looking
• 12:31
  at someone else, then you're taking your focus off of what you need to
• 12:37
  be doing. And to be clear, people will lose. Business will fail
• 12:46
  some won't find their niche and often won't manage their businesses as well. And
• 12:54
  some will fail because they before they start, because the owners don't believe in
• 13:03
  them. I have saying that I always say, and it's if your mind
• 13:13
  can conceive it and your heart can believe it, then you can achieve it.

  Anything you think of in your mind that you want to do with it,
• 13:28
  which is in the will of God, you can achieve it. Once
• 13:35
  your heart it's a purpose, it's a God driven purpose that you can't shake,
• 13:43
  then you can achieve it. Not pine looking at your sister, not
• 13:48
  pro looking at your brother as competition, but looking at them, at them
• 13:52
  as a resource, someone that you can learn from, not somebody you can
• 13:58
  use, but somebody you can learn from and invest in yourself. And that's
• 14:07
  in yourself. We'll buy a three hundred dollars a pocketbook, but we won't
• 14:11
  use three hundred dollars to start our business. Oh why because somebody else has
• 14:18
  that business. Someone else is doing what I want to do. But they
• 14:22
  are not you. You are authentically you. Nobody can be you, but
• 14:30
  you, so stop selling yourself short. I'll be right back after a brief

  books from you, are important. They make you who you are, So

  make them feel important, make them feel like a part of your life.

  Because other business owners were discouraging or deceptive. Community over competition isn't a call

  to proper businesses that don't serve others well. Isn't a call to undercut the
• 16:15
  competition or to accept some form of deceptive humanity where you put yourself down to
• 16:25
  lift others up. But it's a call to serve others. Living our community
• 16:30
  over competition does sometimes run counter to our nature. I'm not good at it
• 16:38
  sometimes, and I have the audacity to use the highstag. But while I
• 16:45
  may have some serious shortcomings put in relationships before opportunities, this is not an
• 16:52
  indication that I don't strive to do otherwise. Jealousy and resentments of other senses
• 17:00
  maybe normal human response, but it does not mean it's a good response.

  We should strive to enter into other people's joy. When you see other people
• 17:12
  being blessed, you need to praise God because what he's done for one,
• 17:18
  he'll do for you if you're not jealous, if you're not back fighting.

  A creative mind and man is motivated by the desire to achieve, but not
• 17:32
  by the desire to beat others. I work with children and school, and
• 17:41
  while sometimes we play competive competitive games, I tell them to play hard for
• 17:48
  the God next to them, to get better every day, and to have
• 17:52
  fun. We emphasize the importance of being good teammates and striving to be better,
• 17:59
  but we don't talk about winning. We know that if we do those
• 18:03
  things well, winning would come, and if it doesn't, the season is
• 18:08
  still successful because it has been built on relationships and hard work. Our focus
• 18:15
  is on us when we are preoccupied with others are doing, we become distracted.
• 18:22
  Isn't that the same and business in life? The problem began when we
• 18:29
  become preoccupied with everyone else's work and show them social media feed. I think
• 18:37
  if we take a moment to reflect on everything we achieved in life, whether
• 18:45
  it be in academics, athletics, or in our career, we could create
• 18:51
  a list of people who were important to that achievement. Life is about people's
• 18:59
  relationship and jim and community. It's about loving and serving others well. One
• 19:06
  of the best ways to live out community over competition. It's the practice gratitude.

  When we are thankful, we're not fearful, and when we're not fearful,
• 19:22
  we're not insecure. I'm not insecure about who I am. I know
• 19:30
  who I am. I know who my father is, and I know the
• 19:34
  benefits that come from serving my father, So I don't care who's in the
• 19:41
  same business that I'm in. I'm gonna build you up. And if I
• 19:48
  know something that I've learned in the hard way, I'm gonna tell you so
• 19:52
  you don't have to go the same way that I went. Excuse me.

  And for example, this brings the mind that one time, I was vending
• 20:07
  at an event and at the event there was another author there, but I
• 20:12
  was selling my inspirational book dream Killers, and she was selling her children's book.
• 20:18
  So when I went to the bathroom, I came to her came and
• 20:22
  I said, look, I'll be back when I get from the bathroom to
• 20:26
  purchase one of your books and talk to you. So and talking to her,
• 20:30
  I found out she was the first time author that she wrote a children's
• 20:37
  book, and I told, uh, oh, I'm a teacher, so
• 20:40
  I will definitely buy one of your books and read it to my class.
• 20:45
  And then we started talking and I told, uh, you know, sometimes
• 20:49
  I come through upon opportunities for children writers, and I'm not a children's writer,
• 20:57
  so if they ever the opportunity these come, you know, I will
• 21:00
  let you know. And I guess she was thinking her mind all this,
• 21:04
  lady, she's just talking. But a God is so faithful that on that
• 21:11
  night a man called me and he said, oh, I'm looking for some
• 21:17
  children writers to be at Bonds and Nobles next weekend. And I was like,
• 21:23
  oh, I just met a children's novels. I said, let me
• 21:26
  get in touch with her aunts and let her know about this opportunity. So
• 21:32
  I called her and I let her know about the opportunity, and she was
• 21:34
  so surprised that she wrote a Facebook post that night about it. She was
• 21:41
  like that she wanted to approach me, but usually authors are so nasty and
• 21:48
  worrying about who's gonna sell one more book, but my book. Even though
• 21:52
  we weren't selling the Sables and we were both selling infiratial books, I still
• 21:57
  would have done the same, because that's my nature to reach out to people.
• 22:03
  That's my nature to build people up, and I tear them down,
• 22:07
  but to let them know you can make it. You can do it,
• 22:12
  even on this journey that I'm on now that temporar every I can't walk,
• 22:21
  and I'm ministering from my bed, but I'm inspiring people that no matter what
• 22:29
  your obstacles are, you can overcome them. That your God still has a
• 22:34
  destiny and a purpose for your life, and you can have to pursue it
• 22:41
  at all courts. And we have to work together, one by one by
• 22:47
  one by one and build up a community of strong supporters supporting one another.

  And everything that we do on this week, I beseech you too, right
• 23:07
  of us, of everybody that ever helped you along in your journey. It
• 23:15
  might be a high school teacher, it might be your pastor, it might
• 23:19
  be your friend, and either call him up or shout him out on Facebook
• 23:26
  that you're a part, that you're glad that they were a part of your
• 23:30
  community, that you are grateful that they have sewn into your life. Because
• 23:37
  what you make happen for other people, God will make happen for you.
• 23:45
  If you're not jealous and strifeful and always looking at the next man that might
• 23:51
  get one more than you, but you're not worried about that next person,
• 23:56
  but you're only worried about being thes that you can be bring out the best
• 24:03
  in you. The only person that I'm in competition against is myself. The
• 24:08
  fight is within me. I fight against myself to be better and better every
• 24:15
  day, to be better at unifying, be better at edifying other people,
• 24:23
  be better at building up a strong community, be better at being a friend,
• 24:33
  be better at building relationship. Because no man is an island. We
• 24:37
  can't do this all by ourselves. That entrepreneur journey is hard enough. There's
• 24:45
  enough haters out there that we need to unite and know that it's best for
• 24:52
  us to be coachable and teachable, that anybody can teach you, and that
• 25:00
  you need to be coachable so you can learn something, so you can excel
• 25:06
  at the business that you're doing. If you're writing books, you want to
• 25:10
  write best sell a books. If you're going back to school, you wanna
• 25:15
  graduate at the top of your class. Not be in competition with anybody,
• 25:22
  but just being in competition with yourself being the best version of you that you
• 25:29
  can be. And competition doesn't learn in that competition doesn't lead to you being
• 25:37
  the best you that you can be. It looks to you being jealous and
• 25:44
  hateful and not being happy when someone else is getting blessed. When someone else
• 25:49
  is getting blessed, I'm happy because I know the same God that blesses dumb
• 25:56

  if you just want to learn about podcasting. But you're not ready to step

  out there yet. But you just want a family. You just want a

  group of people who support your vision that before the Bible says, write the

  vision and make it play so those who see it may run. I'm ready
