- 0:03Our number 2 Millery Condon, Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:06Trent Condon, Ken Miller until 2.
- 0:08At that time, we'll turn things over.
- 0:11The drive is coming up. Heather and Lucas take you until
- 0:135:00. Well, we've looked at the
- 0:16Vikings. We've taken a look at the
- 0:18Chicago Bears. Let's head the AFC.
- 0:21We'll get back to the NFC North with Dave Sinican from zone
- 0:24coverage here in eight or 10 minutes or so.
- 0:26But right now, Chief splits.com is where you can find Nick
- 0:29Athen, all the video, all of the blogs, etcetera, etcetera on
- 0:35those Kansas City Chiefs who by all accounts Nick Athen good to
- 0:39talk to you. Despite where they use draft.
- 0:42Again, as far as pecking order, by all accounts, a lot of people
- 0:46that to follow this very closely think the Chiefs once again
- 0:50outdid their draft position. No surprise after doing it this
- 0:53many years, right? Yeah, no surprise.
- 0:56I mean, this class is, it's pretty impressive.
- 0:58Maybe this compares to the 2022 class where they got 7 starters
- 1:04or at least seven solid contributors.
- 1:06But, you know, I think in retrospect, the Chiefs and that
- 1:10Eagles, who picked 31 and 32 probably had the best, the best
- 1:14weekend of any, any team in in the NFL.
- 1:16It was just remarkable how how players fell and how they
- 1:20position themselves. But for the Chiefs, I mean, you
- 1:23know, it all started in round one, the one guy they coveted
- 1:25more than any other. And he just, it just maneuvered
- 1:28itself to, he maneuvered himself to Kansas City.
- 1:31It's just incredible. So let me ask you about what
- 1:33what happened at the end of the first round, because I can't
- 1:36wrap my mind around that. Obviously, the Chiefs were
- 1:38supposed to go 31. Eagles were supposed to go 32,
- 1:42yet Philadelphia wanted to move up with the Chiefs.
- 1:46Did they get the feeling that somebody else was on the phone
- 1:49with Kansas City and didn't want to lose out on their guy?
- 1:52Why would the Eagles do that and allow the Chiefs?
- 1:55I think they got a fifth round pick in return.
- 1:58I didn't understand that, Nick. What was I missing?
- 2:00The Eagles had to think that somebody was knocking on the
- 2:03Chiefs door. Right the the the Eagles had
- 2:05tried to trade with the Chargers and it it fell through in the
- 2:09end and they got nervous that someone was going to jump the
- 2:14Chiefs. And so they made an offer to
- 2:16Kansas City and Brad P just wanted to make sure that they
- 2:20weren't going to take Josh Simmons and Eagles to the Kitty.
- 2:23They were going to take a defensive player and the mighty
- 2:25good one at that. And so they just said, hey,
- 2:29we'll take a fifth round pick. And that avoided any other team
- 2:33moving up. And she's used that fifth round
- 2:35pick to move up to get Jeffrey Bossa.
- 2:36So, you know, it all worked out kind of kind of great for
- 2:39themselves for for each team, but for them they just kind of
- 2:42panic. And the Chiefs are very
- 2:45fortunate that they had a willing partner to give up with
- 2:47fifth round pick. And that's that's in the Eagles.
- 2:50And the Chiefs, despite their their their hatred of the
- 2:53players against one answer in the field, their front offices
- 2:56are very close, very tight. And so it was a it was an easy
- 2:59move for the Chiefs to make an easy move for the Eagles to feel
- 3:02comfortable. They can get their guy.
- 3:04So when you look at Josh Simmons coming off the torn Patella, do
- 3:08you see him as the day one starter or is it going to be
- 3:12Jalen Moore? Hey, we signed him in free
- 3:13agency, kind of a glow growing term.
- 3:15And hey, hopefully by middle of October he'll be our starter at
- 3:18left tackle. You know, based on what Andy
- 3:22Reid and and Brad Pitt said after they drafted him on
- 3:25Thursday night, that they felt comfortable that he could be
- 3:28ready to go for the regular season.
- 3:30In fact, they're anticipating that he's going to be ready to
- 3:33go for training camp. And so I started making phone
- 3:36calls after this and I started saying, OK, well, what's the
- 3:39truth here? And the truth is there's a lot
- 3:41of disinformation about Josh Simmons that went out.
- 3:44And the chief said, you know, we're going to we're going to
- 3:46we're going to try and get this guy.
- 3:48And we know the medicals are strong because they spend more
- 3:50time with him than any other NFL team, which is, shame on the
- 3:53other 31, arguably the best tackle in this draft.
- 3:57And so from all accounts of people I spoke to since he was
- 3:59drafted, that the intent is he should be ready to go for the
- 4:05opening of the season and training camp.
- 4:07And if that's the case, then, yeah, they've got some decisions
- 4:10to make on the offensive line. It gives them a few more
- 4:12options. And this, this kid is special.
- 4:16And I'm I'm excited. So, yeah, there's a, there's a
- 4:19good chance. I'm not saying it's 100%, but
- 4:21it's a good chance. He's your starter day one.
- 4:23What about Jalen Royals from Utah State receiver who was he
- 4:26missed most of the season last year and a lot of folks thought
- 4:30that this guy was, you know, maybe one of the top group of
- 4:32five players prior to the injury.
- 4:35Is he, is he going to have an impact this year?
- 4:40What mean? Obviously one would assume where
- 4:41they drafted him, they think that he will.
- 4:43Can he? Yeah, I, I had Jalen Royals is
- 4:47like a late second, early third round pick.
- 4:49In fact, I, I was hoping the Chiefs would take him in the in
- 4:53the third round because they had both those picks.
- 4:56And you know, he's the guy that foot injury last year, he
- 4:58recovered. He had a great Senior Bowl.
- 5:00He had a great pro game, pro workout.
- 5:03The Chiefs were very excited about him.
- 5:05He kind of reminds me a little where she writes he's not as
- 5:08fast. That's Rashi Rice, because I
- 5:10think Rashi is is a little bit faster.
- 5:13But he runs great routes. He had what, 9 or 10 receptions
- 5:16or plays over 50 yards last year or the year before.
- 5:20You know, this is a guy that the Chiefs really thought, you know,
- 5:23was not going to be there at the end of the fourth round, which
- 5:25is quite remarkable. Kind of reminds me of the
- 5:28luxurious need situation where they got him late in the fourth
- 5:31round as well. And, you know, he just adds to
- 5:34the mix. And you put him with Xavier
- 5:36Worthy, with Rice, with Hollywood Brown, she just
- 5:40misused her. You know, all of a sudden you've
- 5:42got a really strong group of wide receivers and he he doesn't
- 5:47have breakaway speed, but he can break away from from opposing
- 5:50defenders. And there's a difference there,
- 5:52you know, so he's going to take a little slower to get to the
- 5:54end zone. But he's, he's got great hands.
- 5:57He runs great routes. He'll he'll, he'll make the top
- 5:59catches. He gets off the line of
- 6:01scrimmage. Well, again we had them rated
- 6:04very high, you know, in the second top of third round.
- 6:07So anything late in the draft or free agency wise, I'll I'll tell
- 6:10you, I got a guy that was circled for me.
- 6:13Tight end. We know likely the last season
- 6:15of Travis Kelsey getting Jake, bringing 1 stool out of Clemson
- 6:19as an undrafted free agent. I think that dude's going to
- 6:21stick. The two most exciting draft
- 6:23picks for me was him because I watched this film at Clemson and
- 6:27you think, OK, he runs routes like Travis Kelce.
- 6:30He sits, he positions himself well in open space.
- 6:34He goes up and catches the ball. He has similar hand movements.
- 6:37He gets off the line of scrimmage.
- 6:39He knows how to maneuver between cornerbacks, linebackers and
- 6:44safeties and I just he trust me market today, April 29th, he's
- 6:50making the roster. He's going to open as the number
- 6:52three tight end. He's going to be the he'll be
- 6:55the heir apparent Travis Kelsey. He's got the same, you know, OK,
- 6:59I'll put him in the Hall of Fame already, but he's just got such,
- 7:03he's just got such a great awareness and feel for the
- 7:05position. I had him as a fifth round pick,
- 7:08so I'm just shocked. And then the last pick, Brashard
- 7:11Smith, excites me the most. I, I tell you, I screamed for
- 7:15joy, Not Patrick Mahomes screamed for joy, but I was
- 7:18screaming pretty loud in the seventh round when they got
- 7:20Brashard Smith, who I had hoped they would take back in around
- 7:24around 5:00 at least, but they took Jeffrey Boss instead.
- 7:27They had him rated higher. But Brashard Smith, you know,
- 7:30one year wonder at SMU, three years at Miami as a receiver
- 7:33convert, he's going to be that breakaway running back that the
- 7:36Chiefs have not had since Jamal Charles.
- 7:38I am more excited about him than any other player of this draft.
- 7:42I think he's going to be lights out, highly motivated, a good
- 7:48kid, a little small, but he's got a lot of power.
- 7:51He breaks tackles. And if you watched any of his
- 7:53SMU games or films and he looked at that team and got him to the
- 7:58to the playoffs, they didn't do very well in the playoffs, But
- 8:01you know, he still had a good game.
- 8:03And I'm, I'm, I cannot wait to see what Rashard Smith can do.
- 8:07With the with the. Speed The Chief Savitt receiver
- 8:10in a in a in a rebranded Patrick Mahomes.
- 8:14Nickathenchiefsblitz.com Chiefs blitz.com for Nick just because
- 8:19the drafts over the schedule is what may the 15th it comes out
- 8:22so you'll have plenty of content leading up to that we're.
- 8:25Going to do a live show on our podcast.
- 8:26We're going to do a live reveal, so.
- 8:28How many? What were your numbers like
- 8:30during the draft, because I know you guys put a lot of resources
- 8:33into? We had probably, I think at our
- 8:36peak we had 2000 people at it for virtually each show.
- 8:41We did live Thursday, live Friday and all day Saturday.
- 8:44So we did bell to bell pick the pick till the end and yeah, we
- 8:48had about 6-7 thousand people, so it was pretty great.
- 8:50That's an heavy lift. Good stuff.
- 8:52Nick Athan, thanks for jumping on.
- 8:53We'll talk to you down the road. Yep.
- 8:54See buddy. Chief splits.com.
- 8:56See ya. Chief splits.com for Nick.
- 8:59So Chiefs will be favoured to come out of the AFC West.
- 9:06I wonder if they if anybody in the division has closed the gap.
- 9:10I mean, it's not the Raiders yet, I don't think have the
- 9:14Chargers. Are the Broncos at least close
- 9:19the gap where they'll make the AFC West a race?
- 9:22This year, well, the Chiefs aren't going to go 15 and 2
- 9:24again, are they? No.
- 9:26Well, I hope not. We went through this a lot last
- 9:31season and the. Season before and the scene
- 9:33before. Close the gap in terms of.
- 9:36Will will someone knock them off at the top of the division?
- 9:39I don't think the Chargers are going to be better than 11 and
- 9:42six, do you? No, I.
- 9:45Don't know if the Broncos are going to be much better than 10
- 9:48and seven. Yeah, the Chiefs are maybe
- 9:51taking a step back. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:54We'll see. All right, we'll get to Dave
- 9:56Synekin here. Coming up, zonecoverage.com,
- 10:00zonecoverage.com for Dave Synekin.
- 10:03We'll take a look at what the Green Bay Packers have done as
- 10:06their draft is behind us. Almost don't want to get his
- 10:09take on on just how Green Bay did by all accounts, a lot of
- 10:13people very high on how the Green Bay residents, the Green
- 10:19Bay community came together as the what the population swelled
- 10:25from 100,000 it doubled. It was crazy.
- 10:28Dave Sinican joins us. Dave Trenton can the draft
- 10:30itself in a minute. But just Green Bay, you know,
- 10:32every city wants to outdo itself and you know you're compared to
- 10:36the city that held the draft last year.
- 10:38Boy, I'm seeing a lot of positive reviews on Green Bay,
- 10:41WI and the weekend that they put on.
- 10:44Are you seeing the same thing, Dave Sinican?
- 10:47Yeah, yeah, I think it's gotten a nice review from a lot of the
- 10:50first time visitors and a lot of a lot of Packer fans that maybe
- 10:53haven't been to Green Bay because it's obviously hard to
- 10:55get a ticket. Gave them a chance to really get
- 10:57a sense for the stadium, the Hall of Fame there, the whole
- 11:01title town district. Yeah.
- 11:03I mean, let's not kid ourselves. I don't know that we'll see it
- 11:06happen again in our lifetime, you know, but but the seat over
- 11:09200,000 people there on Saturday on a nice crisp late April
- 11:14Saturday afternoon in Green Bay, to see that place filled up,
- 11:17that was a bit of a surprise to me.
- 11:18I mean, a lot of people head home, wherever they came from,
- 11:21they've seen enough. But there was still so many fans
- 11:24out there that, yeah, I think people kind of got the quaint,
- 11:27good western, old time feel of Green Bay.
- 11:30And yeah, I thought it was really well received.
- 11:32So, so help me out with this one, Dave.
- 11:34I've never been all the NFL, 32 NFL teams converging over some.
- 11:40I know they do it most of their at their headquarters now, but
- 11:43all of the NFL personnel that were there, all of the
- 11:46television people that were there from the networks covering
- 11:49it. Where do these people stay?
- 11:50Is there enough room for everybody in Green Bay?
- 11:52Would you have to kind of spread out around Wisconsin a little
- 11:56bit? No, there's absolutely not
- 11:57enough room for everybody. I'm sure that the teams in the
- 12:00NFL scooped up most of the rooms in Green Bay or Appleton.
- 12:04You know, you've got these little towns within 40 miles,
- 12:07whether it's Appleton, Neenah, Oshkosh, the whole Fox Valley is
- 12:11filled with little towns that that do have some good business,
- 12:14some corporate business where there are some hotels.
- 12:16But I, I know that there were tons of buses heading up from
- 12:20Milwaukee every day. You Madison, I mean, that's
- 12:23still a few hours away, but you they had to the average fan, I'm
- 12:28quite certain, if they weren't willing to spend a ton of money,
- 12:32probably had to drive a couple hours to get to the draft each
- 12:35day. Do the teams, the opposing teams
- 12:37stay in Appleton? Is that what I'm led to believe
- 12:39or does it vary? Yeah, they typically stay in
- 12:41Appleton. I forget the Fox Valley Hilton,
- 12:44I forget the Lombardi Steak Houses in that hotel.
- 12:48But yeah, it's about a 35 minute drive to the Lambo from
- 12:52Appleton. So as we make our way through,
- 12:54plenty of beers were consumed, a lot of Packer fans waiting and
- 12:59when it was announced for the first time since 2002, we knew
- 13:02it was going to be wide receiver Matthew Golden.
- 13:05He's got speed. Also took a little while for him
- 13:08to get acclimated there to Texas after he transferred in.
- 13:11Your thoughts on the number one pick?
- 13:13Yeah, obviously every Packer fan is thrilled that they they got a
- 13:17bright, shiny, fast weapon for Jordan Love.
- 13:19I mean, that's what you wanted this offense to give him.
- 13:22Is is more weapons, some talent that maybe wasn't currently on
- 13:26the roster. And when Watson injured his
- 13:28knee, we knew speed was going to be an issue.
- 13:30So as the draft process went out these last few weeks, I think a
- 13:34lot of Packer fans were kind of tossing their fingers that maybe
- 13:38Dallas would pass on on Matthew Golden.
- 13:40He was a popular landing spot for Dallas.
- 13:42And there were a couple other teams, even Ken Steam, I saw
- 13:45might have some interest in Matthew Golden.
- 13:48But when he was on the clock, I think most Packer fans figure
- 13:51this has to be it. They're going to make this thick
- 13:54in front of all these fans and the the drama can't be, you
- 13:57can't make it up. But yeah, I think what when you
- 14:00look at the film, I thought I found it really instructive to
- 14:02go back to his years in Houston where he had a quarterback with
- 14:06more of a an arm like Quinn Ewers.
- 14:09You know, he doesn't throw the the biggest fastball.
- 14:12He had to wait a lot for the balls to get to him, which made
- 14:15you understand that Bolden's got talented adjusting for the ball
- 14:18and and locating it, which is great.
- 14:20But he didn't have a real strong arm.
- 14:22Quarterback in Quinn Ewers is Houston tape will really impress
- 14:25you. And I just think the Sky's the
- 14:27limit. He's a little shorter than what
- 14:29Packers typically like it 511. But I think we all saw what the
- 14:33Longhorns did the last few games of the season and how Golden
- 14:37stepped up in the biggest moments.
- 14:38And, you know, it seems like he was brought up right.
- 14:40He's so excited and humble for this moment.
- 14:43And I think he understands the opportunity in front of him with
- 14:45a a playoff caliber team and a really good top ten quarterback
- 14:49that really needs his skill set. So yeah, it all came together.
- 14:52And I, you know, Packer fans are completely optimistic about what
- 14:55might happen. But you know, as you guys know
- 14:58about first round wide receivers, a 5050 thing we had
- 15:01mentioned this last week with the last two guys picked at #23
- 15:04were Jordan Addison and Brian Thomas Junior.
- 15:07So the trifecta sounds good to me.
- 15:09Maybe the Packers did that a third straight there.
- 15:11Yeah, I love this interaction with Packer fans too, as well
- 15:14after the pick. Well, let's get to the news of
- 15:16the day when it comes to the Packers away from the draft.
- 15:19And it sounds like a guy that they, you know, spent a lot of
- 15:21draft capital on back in the day, their first round pick and
- 15:25was 18 or 1918, right? Jai Alexander, who seemingly was
- 15:31on his way out of town, maybe not so fast.
- 15:35What's behind this? Who I guess who blinked first
- 15:38Dave to make this potentially Jai Alexander re signing with
- 15:42the Green Bay Packers. Well, you have to make it.
- 15:45It sounds like it's got to be Jair who blinked because he he
- 15:48went through the draft to wait and see what teams that maybe he
- 15:51was interested in or had shown interest, how they addressed
- 15:54that position. And I'm thinking he's looking at
- 15:57what's left and what teams might covet a wide receiver that
- 16:00you're going to have to pay $17 million to this year.
- 16:03And he didn't see a long list and a lot of reporting about
- 16:07this whole situation the last few weeks that there have been
- 16:10trades out there. But Jair was not amenable to
- 16:13restructure butchering his deal. So things that never went
- 16:16anywhere. He wants the money he's due.
- 16:18And and so I think he did finally probably blink.
- 16:20That doesn't mean he's going to be on with the Packers.
- 16:22But man, the reporting a week ago was like, it's done.
- 16:25It's a 1% chance that the sides could reconcile.
- 16:30I think he looked at the end of the day, he's was paid the
- 16:33highest paid corner not that long ago by this organization.
- 16:36And I don't think they really appreciated the way he treated
- 16:40last season and the injury when the the medical staff reportedly
- 16:43thought he was good to go and he was not ready to go.
- 16:46And that happened over several weeks.
- 16:48And he's been kind of a problem in the locker room with that
- 16:50attitude, as you guys know, making himself a captain and
- 16:53going out to midfield in Carolina a couple years ago.
- 16:56He's an odd dude. He's a he's a different cat.
- 16:59But we know when he's healthy, he's great.
- 17:01The problem is 3 of the last Four Seasons, he's only played
- 17:04up to seven games at the most. So he has not been available.
- 17:07It makes it kind of a tough sell.
- 17:08And I certainly speak for most Packer fans.
- 17:11I want him back on the roster. That's the position I thought
- 17:14they were going to really address last week and once again
- 17:17they didn't until the 7th round. So I they need talent and they
- 17:20can sure use him. You know, PA was our first guest
- 17:22looking at our regional teams, and he actually brought up Jai,
- 17:25you're going out to the coin toss and asked us to remind you
- 17:28about that, but you brought it up on your own.
- 17:30So I love the Packers Vikings rivalry.
- 17:33You two guys getting after it still?
- 17:34We have fun. We have.
- 17:35Fun. Absolutely.
- 17:36Anything You mentioned Robinson there in the seventh round, the
- 17:39cornerback out of Tulane, all those defensive guys kind of
- 17:42middle late. Anybody jump off the page that
- 17:44you really liked? Well, the kid from Texas,
- 17:47Sorrell, who was at the draft and has his name called and got
- 17:50that was cool commissioner. Everything I've read about him,
- 17:53he's a really impressive young man and comes from a really good
- 17:57family who's worked really hard. You know, he's not typically the
- 18:01size the Packers look for as an edge rusher, but he gets to go
- 18:05up with his his teammate Matthew Golden, get situated in Green
- 18:08Bay with a guy he knows. And I think there's a real
- 18:11opportunity for him. I think his skill set fits what
- 18:14Jeff Haffley wants. I think that was a nice pick in
- 18:17the fourth round where I was just desperately hoping Jeff
- 18:19Haffley hadn't pissed somebody off because they were picking
- 18:22anybody on the defense until Saturday.
- 18:25He jumps out to me in the big defensive tackle from Georgia
- 18:28who was kind of a A spot starter.
- 18:31Duty loves himself some Bulldog defenders, so he really can't go
- 18:34a draft without him. He might have a chance to be a
- 18:36backup nose tackle. Kenny Clark.
- 18:39This might be his last year with the Pack, so if he can impress,
- 18:42that's a guy with upside. But you know, day three, you
- 18:44just kind of hope maybe a couple of these guys can hit.
- 18:47Those two guys stood out to me this year.
- 18:49Yeah, I. Love the fact that Goodell was
- 18:51able to be meet him on the stage and give Sorrell his moment.
- 18:54That was really cool. Dave sinicanzonecoverage.com
- 18:57zonecoverage.com for Dave Sinican appreciate.
- 19:02Yeah, just want to get your thoughts, 31.
- 19:05It's Minnesota sports, though. I guess that's where my concern
- 19:08lies. Boy, they've looked good in this
- 19:09series though. Yeah, they have.
- 19:11And you're right, Wolves fans, Minnesota fans are conditioned,
- 19:14but Lebron's down 31, so we don't think that's over just
- 19:17yet. But yeah, to hold serve over the
- 19:20weekend, maybe two of the most electric atmospheres that that
- 19:23have we've seen at Target Center.
- 19:26Just the biggest question, I mean, talked about it with you
- 19:29guys last week was the Wolves have been really bad in crunch
- 19:31time this year. They've lost so many games in
- 19:33the final few minutes. I thought that'd be a real
- 19:36problem against the Lakers team with two of the games, great
- 19:39closers. But these last two games in
- 19:41Minneapolis, it was the Wolves that did the close and stepping
- 19:44up and seeing Julius Randle and Jane McDaniels really step up is
- 19:49the two and three guys to take care of business.
- 19:52And obviously Naz Reed with the big threes.
- 19:54It's always fun. But yeah, it's it's exciting to
- 19:56be three one for this organization and they understand
- 20:00though, that if they lose tomorrow night, the pressure
- 20:02comes back to them on Friday night and they have to take care
- 20:05of business. They don't want to go back to LA
- 20:07on Sunday for a Game 7. But yeah, it's it's really nice
- 20:10to see this team grow. It's such a young team, a very
- 20:13close team that they really get along well.
- 20:15It's something you don't always see.
- 20:17And to McDaniels and Nas are like the Three Stooges, they
- 20:20they're really tight and you're sort of you can see it on the
- 20:22court. They have great chemistry.
- 20:23So yeah, a very exciting times up here.
- 20:26That'll be up. On a team that most expected to
- 20:28dispatch of the Wolves, it's nice to see the Wolves show what
- 20:31they got it. Really has been.
- 20:33Dave sinicanzonecoverage.com, Saturday's KFAN and Sunday's

- 21:11Sloan Piva from the Sporting News, next, Miller and Condon,
- 21:14Iowa Sports Radio Network. I'm Miller and Condon.
- 21:18Welcome back, Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 21:22Coming up, Trent's plays of the day, circus sports available
- 21:26here in the state of Iowa. If you're listening across the
- 21:28river in Illinois, Circus sports Illinois for those of us here in
- 21:32Iowa, Circus sports Iowa, download the app, get you
- 21:35started at circus Sloan. Paiva writes about sports
- 21:38wagering, follows the NBA very closely and we like to pick his
- 21:42brain on that. Also get his Derby horses.
- 21:44They'll be running for the roses about 6:00 central on Saturday
- 21:48and Sloan joins us. Sloan Trenton, Ken, thanks for
- 21:50coming on. How are you?
- 21:52Hey guys, always a pleasure. How's it going?
- 21:54Doing well and enjoying these, both the Stanley Cup and the NBA
- 21:58playoffs. I guess we'll start with the
- 22:00team closest to us and that's the team that seemingly has
- 22:04caught the attention of the NBA and that's those Minnesota
- 22:06Timberwolves. LeBron is on the brink.
- 22:10Here comes this young T Wolves team, for the most part with a
- 22:14bona fide superstar in Ant. What do you make of this series
- 22:183 one. Is it over for the Lakers,
- 22:20Sloane? Boy, it sure seems like it might
- 22:24be. I was just talking to a couple
- 22:26of my colleagues, Bill McGregor, Steph, now couple of great NBA
- 22:30writers, and they each gave about a 1015% chance of the
- 22:35Lakers pulling this out. It's a really, really tough hill
- 22:40to climb at this point. You know, you look back at, you
- 22:43know, history of best of sevens. And in the first round when
- 22:47teams go down 3 to 1, they've only there's only been 3 faces
- 22:52out of 85, which they rebounded from that deficit and advanced
- 22:56to the second round. But that being said, it is we're
- 22:59talking about LeBron James and Luka Doncic here.
- 23:02So I have a bet that involves the Knicks, Warriors, and Lakers
- 23:08All in all advancing. And if all three advance, I make
- 23:13about 3:30. If even one of those teams
- 23:17doesn't advance, of course I make nothing.
- 23:18So I have an option to cash out of that bet and make 50 bucks
- 23:22and just recoup some of my losses.
- 23:26But I'm probably going to just let it stand because it's it's
- 23:29LeBron, and that would make for quite the fun story.
- 23:31No doubt about it. And but it's Minnesota sports.
- 23:35And for us Minnesota sports fans, we know there's no sure
- 23:39thing. Certainly on that aspect.
- 23:42Last night it was domination as Cleveland closes out Miami,
- 23:47there was a lot of scuttlebutt about this might have been the
- 23:49worst playoff series in NBA history.
- 23:52Did you see it that way? And he culture something's
- 23:54broken because that that was a lot of quit.
- 23:58Oh, yeah, I mean, that was pretty brutal.
- 24:00I there was a lot of sports on last night, so luckily I didn't
- 24:03have to pay as much attention to that game.
- 24:06I was watching some hockey as well.
- 24:08I was watching some baseball. But yeah, I just don't think
- 24:11that that that Miami Heat team has it as currently constituted.
- 24:15I don't think Tyler Hero is a number one in the in the
- 24:17playoffs. He's probably the worst number
- 24:21one in the NBA. You know, you guys got Anthony
- 24:23Edwards in your neck of the woods.
- 24:25That's that's a true number one. I mean, that's a guy that can go
- 24:28out and just kill any team. The Lakers are pretty good
- 24:30defense most of the time, but when when Anthony Edwards is on,
- 24:34he just takes over. So, you know, you just don't
- 24:37have that kind of faith and it's either hero.
- 24:40I just wonder about the future of that team.
- 24:43And I think they've they've swung and missed on a couple of
- 24:46different players trying to get their big three, you know, their
- 24:50newest version of a big three in order and and they've failed
- 24:53miserably there. So it's troubling times for
- 24:56South Beach sport. Let's talk about the main event
- 24:59tonight, Clippers and the Nuggets.
- 25:02That's the late game on TNT. Series is all tied up at 2
- 25:05apiece. Others are three games.
- 25:07Other three series rather they will play tonight.
- 25:09They're all three ones. So let's go Clippers and
- 25:13Nuggets. I think the Clippers, you might
- 25:15disagree with me, have been the better team in this series so
- 25:18far. We're down to a best of three.
- 25:20How do you see this series going forward?
- 25:22Sloan? Yeah, I think I agree with you.
- 25:25I think the Clippers have a better overall team.
- 25:28I think Jokic doesn't have enough help in Denver right now.
- 25:32I think he got a wild card in Russell Westbrook.
- 25:35And you never quite know. I, I joke around with some of my
- 25:38colleagues about how he's the grim Reaper of, of playoff teams
- 25:41because he comes and, and just knocks on the door and, and
- 25:44there you go there. That team is completely done
- 25:47for. But I, I just think Kawhi
- 25:50Leonard, when he's healthy, is one of the top three best
- 25:54players in the NBAI don't think we talked about it enough
- 25:57because he's had so many injury issues.
- 25:59And then you still got James Harden as a number two option.
- 26:02He's one of the best scorers of all time.
- 26:03So that said, it's Nikola Yokich.
- 26:07He's, he's able to completely take over games.
- 26:10He's he's capable of doing, you know, putting up a 4020 and 20
- 26:14game and we wouldn't even bat an eye at the point and, and
- 26:16somebody would find a way to downplay it.
- 26:18But you know, that's just, that's just how that's the life
- 26:22we're living at this point. I do have a, a fun little alt
- 26:26prop parlay for this game. I've got a Nikola Yokich 45 plus
- 26:31points, rebounds and assists and Kawhi 33 plus points and
- 26:36rebounds. You can get that plus 120 on
- 26:39most books. All right.
- 26:40Check it out, see if it's on Circa.
- 26:43Definitely take a look at that one, put those one together and
- 26:45definitely like that part of it. So I want to go to the Knicks
- 26:48and the Pistons. Yeah, the Knicks are up three
- 26:50one, I can make an argument it should be 3-1 the other way.
- 26:54Go back to obviously game 4, the non foul in the corner.
- 26:57Go back to that fourth quarter in game one and a lot of
- 27:00different moments in game 3. The Pistons have been right
- 27:03there, but it's now back to Madison Square Garden game five.
- 27:08Do we get a close out tonight or does this plucky Pistons group
- 27:11get it back to Detroit for a Game 6?
- 27:14Plucky is a good adjective. I like that.
- 27:16Yeah, the Pistons have a lot of heart.
- 27:18They're very, very feisty. I would not put many pesos on
- 27:22the on the Knicks. I just, I can't seem to trust
- 27:26them. So that said, it's probably
- 27:29going to be really fun game and and I think it'll go down to the
- 27:32wire. So I'd probably go for the
- 27:35Pistons plus the points. I think they're getting five and
- 27:38a half, 6 1/2. So that's that's pretty
- 27:41intriguing for me. Like you said, the Pistons were
- 27:43right in that last game. They're going to be pissed off
- 27:45after not getting that foul that should have won them the game
- 27:49and equalized the series. So I'll definitely be watching
- 27:53that one closely. I've got tickets, my friends and
- 27:56I have tickets to game one of the Celtics second round series.
- 28:00Knock on wood that they get there.
- 28:01I'm pretty sure that they'll get there, but it's kind of just a
- 28:05matter of who the opponent's going to be and when it's going
- 28:08to be. It might be on Thursday if the
- 28:10Knicks and the Celtics both close out tonight.
- 28:12Let me pick your baseball brain for a second, Sloan.
- 28:15I've tried to make this case to Trent yesterday.
- 28:17Wasn't buying for a second. The Mets are off to a phenomenal
- 28:21start, being the best record in baseball, right?
- 28:23We thought maybe a New York team would.
- 28:24Not this one. The Phillies are the second
- 28:28choice. The Braves are the third choice
- 28:30in the National League East. They've still got their, you
- 28:32know, the 13 games against one another still to be played.
- 28:37Is it crazy to think that the Braves have an outside chance?
- 28:41You know what? Plus 330 might be worth the
- 28:44might be worth the, you know, a small investment to run down
- 28:48both the Phillies and the Mets and come away as National League
- 28:51East champions. Could you buy that?
- 28:54I can buy that, absolutely. I, I love this Atlanta team and
- 28:57I think people are starting to to talk about their demise a
- 29:01little too quickly. It's still got a really, really
- 29:04ridiculously good core rotation with Chris Sale, reigning Cy
- 29:09Young winner. You've got Spencer
- 29:12Schwellenbach, who I think could be a Cy Young candidate in the
- 29:16future, and Grant Holmes. He's got that gritty, gritty
- 29:19look to him. I think he can he can absolutely
- 29:22do well for them right now. Ronaldo Lopez on the IL, if he
- 29:26comes back at some point, Spencer Strider comes back
- 29:29healthy. That's a very, very good
- 29:31rotation. And then you've also got a
- 29:34really good line up with Pop. If everybody could get back
- 29:37healthy. Don't forget about Ronald
- 29:38Lacuna. You know, he's an MVP and once
- 29:40they get him back, they could go on an absolute tear.
- 29:44So yeah, definitely don't count them out yet.
- 29:46If you can get some value like plus 330I would consider rolling
- 29:49on that. I mean, the Phillies are pretty
- 29:51good, the Mets are pretty good, but we've seen both of those
- 29:54teams breakdown at the end of seasons before.
- 29:56So I would I would take the value where you can get it
- 29:59there. Outside of the Yankees, who do
- 30:02you like in the American League to win the Pennant?
- 30:04I wouldn't even the whole thing because we know the National
- 30:06League looks to be an absolute bear and of course the Dodgers
- 30:08at the forefront of that. But if you take the Yankees
- 30:11away, who do you like in the American League?
- 30:14I'll tell you what, I'm not going to sleep on the Seattle
- 30:17Mariners at this point. I've, I've been, you know, very
- 30:20critical of their clutch hitting in the past.
- 30:23And you've probably seen some of my tweets where I'm like, why
- 30:26aren't they giving any of these pitchers run support?
- 30:28Well, they're finally giving their pitchers run support and
- 30:31they're hitting, you know, they're, they're already at 42
- 30:33home runs this year. So the Mariners with Jorge
- 30:36Polanco playing like an All Star with a Rose Arena, that and the
- 30:40way he bat and that pitching staff that they have, nobody's
- 30:44going to want to play that team in September and October.
- 30:47The Mariners can absolutely make some noise.
- 30:49If they can pick somebody up maybe to bolster that line up a
- 30:52little bit and get some more power in the in the, you know,
- 30:56lower third of that batting order.
- 30:58They're going to be a real real, you know, tough force to face in
- 31:03the playoffs. So I would take some value on on
- 31:06Seattle. I also think there's a little
- 31:07bit of value in Baltimore right now because they got off to a
- 31:10tough start and I never count out the Guardians.
- 31:14I just think they consistently have good leadership.
- 31:17I think their pitching is going to get a lot better and Jose
- 31:20Ramirez is one of my favorite players in the league.
- 31:23He's just The Ultimate Warrior, one of the one of the best non
- 31:27MVPS in baseball history in my eyes.
- 31:30Yeah, Cal Raleigh with the Mariners, one of the best power
- 31:32hitting catchers that nobody knows about, quite frankly.
- 31:36We'll see. I don't even know why I.
- 31:37Didn't mention him, yeah. I'm guilty of the same thing.
- 31:41You just. Said And look at Kirby hasn't
- 31:43pitched. I don't think he's pitched a
- 31:44year. He got hurt and he'll come back
- 31:47at some time and Gilbert's down. I'm I'm with you on on this
- 31:50Mariners team. All right.
- 31:51Who's your Derby horse, Sloan? Oh, I got to go with journalism.
- 31:55He's taking a favorite. You know, out of the eighth, out
- 31:58of the 8th gate and just the the speed profile, the tactical
- 32:03speed that this horse has that that's just the behemoth of a
- 32:06horse. I mean, and this is this is kind
- 32:08of a a close race in in the sense that there's a lot of 20
- 32:12to one, a lot of 30 to 1. You don't have any real long
- 32:15shots. So I think the best horse is
- 32:17going to win. And I got to go with
- 32:19journalists. You got a great draw on Saturday
- 32:22and I'm sticking with the sticking with the chalk.
- 32:28It's kind of boring, but it's made me some money so far.
- 32:31Good stuff, Sloan, thanks for jumping on.
- 32:33We will bother you again. Here's the playoffs in the NBA
- 32:37and NHL unfold. Thanks, Sloan for jumping on.
- 32:39Appreciate it, sportingnews.com. All right, look forward to it.
- 32:42Thank you, buddy. Yeah, good to talk to you, Sloan
- 32:43Pive. As we talk sports wagering and
- 32:46NBA with Sloan, the only thing about journalism and he's a
- 32:48favorite and he really looks good.
- 32:50He beats 5 horse fields in California.
- 32:53That that will not be the case on.
- 32:54Saturday. No, no, there'll be 15, 15.
- 32:57Well be 15. More than what he's accustomed
- 32:59to racing against. You got to play him.
- 33:04Not for me. Not for you.
- 33:06I got 1. You've got a.
- 33:08Horse. I got a horse.
- 33:08Already. Who is it?
- 33:10Flying Mohawk. He's got no shot.
- 33:14I I just I. Just run fast enough to scatter
- 33:17his own. You know what That's my grandpa
- 33:19used to say. That's a good life.
- 33:21Yeah, he had some good ones. You like the four Grandpa you're
- 33:25talking about? He couldn't run fast enough to
- 33:26scatter his own. I've come to the last race.
- 33:31Digs deep in his pocket. Well, son, it's time to get
- 33:34even. Or even worse.
- 33:37Those were the days. 145, Miller and Condon.
- 33:40I was. What year was this?
- 33:41Do you have any idea? 01970. 4.
- 33:47Oh my goodness, I was going to say the exact same.
- 33:49Were you really? Yes, I'll look it up.
- 33:52Yeah, Sometimes we got the when we play the music.
- 33:55Sometimes we got the number by it.
- 33:57Not on this one. So Ramblin Man.
- 33:59Yeah. By The Allman Brothers.
- 34:01Yeah. Came out in 1973.
- 34:05Missed it by an inch. Not too bad, I'll give it to
- 34:08ourselves. Couple old guys.
- 34:09Couple old guys, one older than the other.
- 34:12We final segment is upon a Circa Sports sponsors NBA slate
- 34:17tonight I'm all over the NHL tonight the NBA slate now I will
- 34:22say this Indiana Milwaukee love the fact that tips at 5 that
- 34:25gets a little bit of an early start on NBATV.
- 34:29By the way, did you hear Halliburton his press conference
- 34:33following the following the last game I.
- 34:36Didn't I heard plenty of chance? While when Dane got hurt and
- 34:40tore his Achilles essentially, and I'm paraphrasing Halliburton
- 34:44sat down at the press table and said, before you ask me any
- 34:47questions, I just want to say this and went into, you know,
- 34:50express his condolences, the injury and say what you guys see
- 34:53is 2 guys bat. I just thought it was first
- 34:55class. I'm not surprised by that, not
- 34:57at all. But you know, for him to do it
- 35:00because there, it's been pretty well chronicled of the back and
- 35:03forth between these two prior to this.
- 35:06So well done you. Honestly, here's one of the
- 35:09offseason things that we won't move our needle because we're
- 35:11not NBA offseason guys. But you know, I hope he stays in
- 35:14Milwaukee. Small market quote, small
- 35:16market. You just wonder though, this
- 35:19franchise since they've won their championship.
- 35:22They're terrible, they're bad, and it's doesn't look like it's
- 35:25getting worse kind of in salary cap hell.
- 35:28It it's that time in the NBA where you RIP off the Band-Aid.
- 35:33But it's also Milwaukee. I mean, don't have a whole lot.
- 35:37It's not like free agents are fleeing to make their way up to
- 35:41to southeast Wisconsin. It's a tough draw, but what do
- 35:48you do? Tear it down to hopefully build
- 35:50it back up? Don't know has.
- 35:53To be the right hall, right? Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:54All right. What are you playing tonight,
- 35:55Trent? We got baseball and we have
- 35:58basketball. No hockey tonight.
- 36:01The one that I was closest to pulling the trigger is the
- 36:03Kings. I hated the way Sunday night
- 36:06ended and I'm already invested. In this series by mile.
- 36:09And I'm already invested in the Kings, so I'm just going to sit
- 36:12out. Just going to sit out.
- 36:14Don't need to add any more fuel to that one.
- 36:16Baseball. Tonight we're taking the look at
- 36:19the lefties going up against lefties.
- 36:21Yankees, they kill Yankees. Looks like they're going to get
- 36:25a lefty tonight -150 for the Yankees.
- 36:27Cubs kill lefties. They're going up against Andrew
- 36:30Heaney tonight. Who's been OK?
- 36:32He's been OK. I'll lay the -137 though in that
- 36:36one. Another team that kills lefties,
- 36:37your Blue Jays against Crochet. We'll take the plus money, plus
- 36:41again, my affinity with Bowden Francis, plus 1/22 at Circa,
- 36:48other shops, you go shopping, you want to play the Blue Jays
- 36:50and get plus 110. Are you going to take the plus
- 36:531/22? What a difference at Circa.
- 36:55And we will do just that One more in baseball again.
- 36:59Smith Char is going to start for the Braves against Marquez who
- 37:02is awful -190 is all. What am I missing here?
- 37:08The the Rockies are now 4 and 24.
- 37:10I know it's betting baseball. They're not going to make money
- 37:13long term betting big favorites. However, give me the Braves
- 37:17minus the 190 again to basketball Clippers.
- 37:20Lay the 1 1/2 Pistons. You know this is an automatic
- 37:24play, right? Plus 5 1/2.
- 37:26And I've gone back to the well again with my first quarter bet
- 37:28on the Pistons. Plus 133 for the Pistons to win
- 37:33the first quarter. We'll go back at that one again.
- 37:36Pistons could easily won the series.
- 37:38I'm not going to. Yeah, I don't think it is
