- 1:38Speaker 1: Between these two ball clubs, and you look at what
- 1:42Speaker 1: is going on in their respective leagues. First off, Washington
- 1:47Speaker 1: is now above. 500, 28-27, second place in the NL East.
- 1:52Speaker 1: They are eight and a half games behind the front-running
- 1:57Speaker 1: Atlanta Braves. Cleveland leads the AL Central with a record
- 2:01Speaker 1: now of 32-24 and a three and a half game
- 2:03Speaker 1: lead over Washington. the Chicago White Sox. Of course, now
- 2:09Speaker 1: you play so many interleague ballgames, as this year, for instance,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Cleveland is going to be playing 48 games against the
- 2:18Speaker 1: National League. You play 14 of those ballclubs three times each,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and then they play the Reds six times. So a
- 2:27Speaker 1: lot of interleague games now, almost one-third of your schedule.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And when it comes to the interleague affairs... Right now,
- 2:36Speaker 1: against the National League, Cleveland has posted a record of 10-9. Washington,
- 2:43Speaker 1: on the other hand, they've only played 10 games against
- 2:46Speaker 1: the American League. They are 7-3. And that's going to
- 2:52Speaker 1: go a long way in determining things. One, you've got
- 2:55Speaker 1: to do well in your division. To win a division title,
- 2:58Speaker 1: that's pretty much age old. But it's not as predominantly
- 3:02Speaker 1: structured that way as it was when you were playing Cleveland.
- 3:05Speaker 1: 19 games against each team in your division. Now you're
- 3:09Speaker 1: down to 13 games. So you better not only do
- 3:13Speaker 1: well within the division, but you just can't go and
- 3:15Speaker 1: have an interleague schedule where you end up playing 48
- 3:20Speaker 1: games and you find yourself going 10 and 38, or
- 3:24Speaker 1: you'll find yourself with a lot of early tee times
- 3:27Speaker 1: in October. The umpiring crew, it's Mike Estabrook behind the plate,
- 3:31Speaker 1: Jonathan Parra at first, Lance Barrett at second, Alfonso Marquez
- 3:36Speaker 1: at third, Marquez the third base umpire. Well, if we
- 3:40Speaker 1: thought the ball jumped out of here last night, six
- 3:43Speaker 1: Washington homers, one Cleveland homer, it should go even better
- 3:47Speaker 1: tonight because it is warmer than tonight, and we really
- 3:51Speaker 1: have no breeze to speak of. 325 down the lines,
- 3:54Speaker 1: 370 to left center, 375 to right center, 400 to
- 3:56Speaker 1: dead center. The 19-foot wall from the left field corner
- 4:03Speaker 1: to center. The 9-foot wall from the right field corner
- 4:07Speaker 1: to center field. Joey Cantillo on the hill tonight for Cleveland. 6'4, 220.
- 4:13Speaker 1: He is 26 years of age. He is going to
- 4:17Speaker 1: make his third appearance against the Nationals. First time, though,
- 4:22Speaker 1: he's ever started in a ballgame against Washington. He's worked
- 4:27Speaker 1: a couple of times against them out of the bullpen.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Joey Cantillo is a guy that features the fastball, the curveball,
- 4:36Speaker 1: the slider, and the changeup. And for Joey Cantillo this year,
- 4:40Speaker 1: the changeup far and away is best pitch. The opposition
- 4:45Speaker 1: on the season is batting. 233 against Joey Cantillo. Against
- 4:51Speaker 1: his changeup, they haven't had much of a chance. The
- 4:55Speaker 1: opposition has batted. 145. Against that devastating changeup of Joey Cantillo.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And he will throw it a lot. So Joey Cantillo
- 5:08Speaker 1: and the Guardians in their home whites. With the navy
- 5:10Speaker 1: blue and the red trim. And Washington the navy blue tops.
- 5:14Speaker 1: The red and white trim. And the gray pants. Stephen
- 5:17Speaker 1: Kwan in left field tonight. Daniel Schneeman in center. Angel
- 5:21Speaker 1: Martinez is in right field. Kyle Manzardo. is at first,
- 5:27Speaker 1: Travis Bazzana at second, Brian Rocchio at short, Jose Ramirez
- 5:32Speaker 1: at third, and Patrick Bailey is doing the catching. Joey Cantillo,
- 5:39Speaker 1: he'll face a left-on-left matchup. James Wood, the batter, he
- 5:44Speaker 1: led off the game last night with a bomb to
- 5:46Speaker 1: right center at a four-hit game. Cantillo from the set
- 5:50Speaker 1: and tonight's first pitch. And it's in that. The knee's
- 5:54Speaker 1: a strike. And we're underway at the corner of Carnegie
- 5:57Speaker 1: and Ontario. Game time temp of 70 degrees. Cantillo from
- 6:03Speaker 1: the set position. Third base side of the rubber. He
- 6:06Speaker 1: lets it fly. And it's a curveball outside. And it's
- 6:11Speaker 1: challenged two pitches in by Patrick Bailey. So Bailey again
- 6:17Speaker 1: catching tonight. A quick early challenge. And he wins it.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And it wasn't even close. Rough start for Mike Estabrook
- 6:25Speaker 1: if that's an omen. So it's an 0-2 count now
- 6:29Speaker 1: on James Wood. Adding 267. 14 bombs. 35 RBIs. 14 doubles.
- 6:32Speaker 1: The pitch. And he fouled it back. Wood. Is 6'6, 250.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And if you missed the manager's show, Stephen Vogt saying,
- 6:49Speaker 1: Wood reminds him of a left-handed Richie Sexton when he
- 6:54Speaker 1: steps in the batter's box. Now the 0-2 pitch. And
- 6:59Speaker 1: it dips low. One ball, two strikes. Another curveball. James Wood.
- 7:10Speaker 1: is leading the National League in runs scored, leading the
- 7:14Speaker 1: National League in walks, the pitch, and he checks on
- 7:17Speaker 1: a pitch off the glove of Bailey, inside to the backstop,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and a 2-2 count. Wood is third in the National
- 7:25Speaker 1: League in extra base hits and in home runs, and
- 7:29Speaker 1: he's fourth in OPS. Deep in the box, open stance.
- 7:36Speaker 1: The pitch. And he got him swinging. There was a
- 7:39Speaker 1: left-on-left changeup. So Patrick Bailey lost the handle. Ball popped
- 7:45Speaker 1: out on the grass in front of the plate, but
- 7:48Speaker 1: James Wood made no effort to go to first. And
- 7:51Speaker 1: so it's a strikeout without having to throw down to first.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And that'll bring up Curtis Mead, fellow Australian. He and
- 7:59Speaker 1: Travis Bazzana. And last night, he had a couple of
- 8:03Speaker 1: home runs, three RBIs. Right-handed batter. The pitch to Meade,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and he looks at a called strike. Nicked the outside corner.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Joey Cantillo here in the early going, pounding that strike zone.
- 8:26Speaker 1: That next pitch, and that misses. One ball, one strike. Meade, a.
- 8:36Speaker 1: 241 hitter, seven homers, 20 RBIs. Washington, about as good
- 8:41Speaker 1: as it gets offensively in all of baseball. The pitch,
- 8:46Speaker 1: waved at it. Another good changeup. One ball, two strikes.
- 8:51Speaker 1: The Nationals lead everybody in baseball, both leagues, in runs scored,
- 8:56Speaker 1: five and a half a game. They lead baseball in doubles,
- 9:00Speaker 1: fourth in homers, fourth in steals. Fourth in OPS. They
- 9:05Speaker 1: do it all. I mean, they're on base, they hit
- 9:08Speaker 1: for power, they hit for extra bases, and they steal.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Extremely athletic, gifted offense. The pitch, down low, and the
- 9:19Speaker 1: count now, 2-2. What they don't do is pitch well
- 9:24Speaker 1: or catch the baseball. They have been very bad defensively.
- 9:29Speaker 1: And they have the fifth worst earned run average in
- 9:32Speaker 1: all of baseball. They give up five a game. They
- 9:36Speaker 1: score five and a half. Now the 2-2. Swung on.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Pulled foul. Third base side. Will do it again. At 2-2.
- 9:49Speaker 1: 33-year-old Blake Butera in his first year as the manager
- 9:54Speaker 1: of the Nationals played his college ball at Boston College.
- 9:58Speaker 1: The 2-2. Down low, full count. And who's one of
- 10:02Speaker 1: his best friends in baseball? Craig Albernaz. Said Craig Albernaz
- 10:09Speaker 1: was one of my managers in the minor leagues. The pitch,
- 10:14Speaker 1: and it swung on, lifted in the air to left,
- 10:17Speaker 1: fouled down the Line it goes into the seats. And
- 10:22Speaker 1: in fact, Craig Albernaz and Blake Butera would have been
- 10:28Speaker 1: together in Baltimore. Blake Butera would have been his bench coach.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Except he got the manager's job in Washington when Craig
- 10:36Speaker 1: Albernaz got the manager's job in Baltimore. Now Cantillo, hands
- 10:43Speaker 1: chest high, lets it fly. And it's high. And he
- 10:47Speaker 1: walked him on a changeup. So Cantillo with a walk
- 10:51Speaker 1: and a strikeout. Meade heads down to first. That'll bring
- 10:54Speaker 1: up the first baseman tonight. Andres Chaparro did not play
- 11:02Speaker 1: in last night's game. Chaparro, right-handed hitter. He's only played
- 11:09Speaker 1: in eight games, two for 14 since coming up. The pitch,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and it's hanging high and wide. Another curveball is just
- 11:18Speaker 1: not doing anything. Ball one. Such a young Washington team. Man,
- 11:26Speaker 1: they've got some really impressive youthful position players. There's a
- 11:32Speaker 1: called strike and another changeup. Chaparro, 26 years of age
- 11:39Speaker 1: out of Venezuela. Third year in the big leagues, but
- 11:43Speaker 1: he's only played 71 major league games. The 1-1 pitch.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Runner goes. Pitch fouled back and out of play. Boy,
- 11:54Speaker 1: did he have a great jump. Back to first is Meade.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Patrick Bailey is a very good throwing catcher, but you
- 12:06Speaker 1: have to give your catcher a chance. Just a mammoth
- 12:11Speaker 1: jump off Cantillo that time. Bailey has thrown out 24%
- 12:15Speaker 1: of the would-be base stealers all season long. Down the set,
- 12:22Speaker 1: now the pitch. And a swing on a slow chopper
- 12:25Speaker 1: to third. Charged by Ramirez. Gloves goes to second. Wide throw.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And Bozzana kept his foot on the bag. Then came
- 12:33Speaker 1: off the bag to complete the catch. See if Washington
- 12:37Speaker 1: challenges that call at second. That throw was to the
- 12:41Speaker 1: first base side of second. And Bozzana did a heck
- 12:46Speaker 1: of a job stretching. And he indeed kept that foot
- 12:49Speaker 1: on the bag to get the lead runner. So Meade
- 12:53Speaker 1: is forced out. Chaparro is on with a fielder's choice
- 12:57Speaker 1: at first. Two down for C.J. Abrams. Another bona fide star.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Left on left, the shortstop. The pitch, and it's a
- 13:09Speaker 1: curveball strike. Abrams last night had a home run, and
- 13:15Speaker 1: now he challenges the first pitch strike. And he wins.
- 13:23Speaker 1: So for Mike Estabrook, he might want to mulligan on
- 13:27Speaker 1: the top of the first inning behind home plate. So
- 13:32Speaker 1: Abrams is right. The 1-0 pitch. Curveball in there. Strike. 1-1.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Abrams is batting. 288. A dozen homers. Leads the National
- 13:44Speaker 1: League with 46 RBIs. Sixth in the National League in OPS.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Cantillo delivering, and it's a little bit low ball two,
- 13:58Speaker 1: two and one. Abrams, former first-round pick out of high school,
- 14:03Speaker 1: out of the Atlanta area. Sixth player chosen overall in
- 14:09Speaker 1: the 2019 draft. Getting close to making big, big money.
- 14:17Speaker 1: That pitch got away from Bailey. Ricochets off the backstop
- 14:22Speaker 1: toward him. And the wild pitch enables Chaparro to go
- 14:26Speaker 1: to second. But Cantillo has been all over the place
- 14:33Speaker 1: here in the first inning. He's been high. He's been low.
- 14:36Speaker 1: He's been perfect. Not settled in yet. No score. Two down.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Runner at second. The 3-1 pitch. Swung on. Banged foul.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Outside of first. That's a full count. That 2019 draft
- 14:54Speaker 1: in which C.J. Abrams went number six overall. It's one
- 15:00Speaker 1: of the great drafts of all time. Adlai Rushman, number one.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Bobby Witt, number two. That pitch. Strike! Three called. He
- 15:07Speaker 1: challenges again. I'm going to make a bet. I'm betting
- 15:12Speaker 1: Mike Estabrook is right for the first time this inning.
- 15:17Speaker 1: He's wrong again. 0 for 3. It's ball four.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 15:23Speaker 1: When is, well, we've never seen it this year. Never
- 15:27Speaker 1: have we seen a major league umpire this year in
- 15:30Speaker 1: a half inning be challenged three times in the top
- 15:34Speaker 1: of the first and be wrong every time. So Chaparro
- 15:39Speaker 1: at second. Abrams with the second walk of the inning
- 15:44Speaker 1: at first. Two down, no score for Dylan Cruz. Right-handed
- 15:48Speaker 1: hitting right fielder. And it's down low, a ball going
- 15:54Speaker 1: back to that 2019 draft. Rushman number one, Bobby Witt Jr.
- 16:00Speaker 1: number two, Andrew Vaughn number three, J.J. Blede number four.
- 16:05Speaker 1: The pitch, curveball down and in, 2-0. Riley Green was
- 16:09Speaker 1: number five overall with the Tigers, then C.J. Abrams. Boy,
- 16:15Speaker 1: if you were redoing that draft, it'd be interesting to
- 16:18Speaker 1: see how it would go. Bobby Witt would be Far
- 16:21Speaker 1: and away the number one choice. The pitch. Swing and
- 16:24Speaker 1: a pop foul out of play to the right. Two
- 16:26Speaker 1: and one. Shea Langeleers went number nine to Atlanta. He's
- 16:32Speaker 1: becoming a star with Sacramento. Corbin Carroll went number 16
- 16:39Speaker 1: with Arizona. He's already a star. That was some loaded
- 16:45Speaker 1: first round. Meanwhile, no score. Two out, two on. The
- 16:50Speaker 1: 2-1 pitch. Cruz takes. That looked like a strike. It's
- 16:54Speaker 1: called a ball. And another challenge by Patrick Bailey. Fourth
- 16:59Speaker 1: challenge in the inning. Two by Bailey, two by the hitter.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And Mike Estabrook is 0 for 4. And he has
- 17:08Speaker 1: got to be hoping that nobody in New York is
- 17:11Speaker 1: watching the top of the first inning. He could have
- 17:19Speaker 1: flipped a coin and gotten two out of the four, right?
- 17:23Speaker 1: Here's the set. Here's the 2-2 delivery. Swung on a
- 17:27Speaker 1: chopper up the middle. Behind second, grabbed by Rocchio. Guns
- 17:31Speaker 1: to first to get Dylan Cruz. Nobody happier to see
- 17:35Speaker 1: the top of the first inning end than home plate
- 17:37Speaker 1: umpire Mike Estabrook. No score in Cleveland.
- 17:41Speaker 6: When you tell someone what team you cheer for, do
- 17:43Speaker 6: they apologize? Does your first childhood memory involve crying on

- 19:27Speaker 7: News Radio 570 WKBN, Youngstown.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Well, Cleveland will come to bat here in the first inning.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Against a right-handed pitcher who can't get left-handed batters out. Well,
- 19:46Speaker 1: that is tailor-made for this Cleveland lineup. That's not to
- 19:51Speaker 1: say that Cade Cavalli won't be outstanding tonight, but boy,
- 19:55Speaker 1: the numbers would indicate Cavalli's got a tough assignment. 6'4, 245,
- 20:03Speaker 1: 27 years of age. Cavalli, fastball sinker, curve slider, changeup.
- 20:13Speaker 1: We've already had a pitch clock violation on Cavalli. It's
- 20:17Speaker 1: a 1-0 count on Travis Pisano. The pitch, and it's
- 20:21Speaker 1: now a 1-1 count. What a wild start to this
- 20:24Speaker 1: first inning. All left-handed lineup for manager Steven Vogt. Cavalli
- 20:30Speaker 1: facing Cleveland for the first time ever. Big man throws hard, mid-90s.
- 20:36Speaker 1: The kick and the 1-1, and it's foul tip, 1-2.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Left-handed batters this year hitting. 336 against Cavalli.. 336 right-handed batters,
- 20:51Speaker 1: none in the lineup. Batting. 202. Now the 1-2. Swung
- 20:57Speaker 1: on a weak bouncing ball to the second baseman. Nunez charges, gloves,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and throws out Bozzano. That'll bring up Jose Ramirez. Switch
- 21:06Speaker 1: hitter batting left-handed. Overall for Cade Cavalli, two wins, three losses,
- 21:13Speaker 1: ERA 386. 12th start, no complete games, five innings to start.
- 21:19Speaker 1: He averages 10 strikeouts, three walks per nine. Teams batting overall,
- 21:25Speaker 1: 274 against him. Cade Cavalli. The pitch... And it's swung on,
- 21:33Speaker 1: blooped in the air to shallow left. Abrams racing out.
- 21:37Speaker 1: The shortstop has a tick off his glove. Rolls towards
- 21:40Speaker 1: left field into second with the double is Ramirez. Almost
- 21:44Speaker 1: a collision with Wood and Abrams. Wood, the left fielder,
- 21:49Speaker 1: charging in. Abrams, the shortstop, racing out into left. And
- 21:54Speaker 1: he had his back to home plate, reached up and
- 21:57Speaker 1: glanced off his glove and rolled more toward left. Woods
- 22:00Speaker 1: had to get out of the way to avoid the collision.
- 22:04Speaker 1: They brushed each other, but nothing significant. And Jose Ramirez
- 22:09Speaker 1: gets a gift double. That is his 12th. But somebody
- 22:14Speaker 1: should have caught that. Here's Chase DeLauder DH-ing tonight in
- 22:21Speaker 1: a bit of a funk. Chase DeLauder, left-handed hitter. A
- 22:26Speaker 1: look at second, Cavalli's pitch, and he went curveball strike.
- 22:35Speaker 1: De Lauder now batting 143 over the last 14 games.
- 22:45Speaker 1: The set, the pitch, and it's a fastball painted the
- 22:49Speaker 1: outside corner. He challenges the call. Fifth challenge of the
- 22:54Speaker 1: first inning. And this time, Mike Estabrook is right. So
- 23:04Speaker 1: Cleveland now one challenge left for the night. Nothing into
- 23:08Speaker 1: the count. On to Lauder. The look back at second.
- 23:15Speaker 1: The pitch. Down low. Tried to get him to chase
- 23:19Speaker 1: that curve. Cavalli pitched at the University of Oklahoma. Was
- 23:25Speaker 1: the number one pick in the COVID draft 2020. He
- 23:30Speaker 1: was the 22nd player chosen in that first round. The 1-2.
- 23:36Speaker 1: And before it's made a throw to second. C.J. Abrams
- 23:39Speaker 1: the shortstop. Nine feet behind the bag. But he caught
- 23:44Speaker 1: the throw. As Hosey dove back. One ball two strikes.
- 23:50Speaker 1: One out. Nobody on. No score first inning. Cavalli's ready.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Here it comes. And it's fouled on the left side.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Still 1-2. James Wood. is in left field. Terrific center
- 24:06Speaker 1: fielder Jacob Young, Dylan Cruz in right. Andres Chaparro at first.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Nassim Nunez at second. C.J. Abrams at short. Curtis Meade
- 24:19Speaker 1: at third. And Gabert Ruiz doing the catching. Dancing off
- 24:25Speaker 1: the bag and getting the attention of Cavalli was Jose Ramirez.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Cavalli had to step up. Ramirez looked like he was
- 24:35Speaker 1: going to walk into third. He leads the American League
- 24:38Speaker 1: with 20 steals. Abrams trying to keep him close to pitch.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Swung down, broken bat, a roller to the second baseman.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Nunez will flip it over. The lot are out number two.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Ramirez to third. No score for Kyle Manzardo. 218 batting mark.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Five homers, 17 RBIs. Susie Kaiser of Cleveland. Trying to
- 25:02Speaker 1: win the Birdstone tires thanks to Conrad's Tire Express and
- 25:06Speaker 1: Total Car Care. Visit econrads.com to enter. Be like Susie Kaiser.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Trying to get into the Conrads 4 tire contest. Pitch
- 25:21Speaker 1: way inside. That breaking ball almost hit him. Cavalli. Basically
- 25:30Speaker 1: missed 2023 and 2024 from Tommy John's surgery. Now the 1-0.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Curveball strike, 1-1. Last year made 10 starts with Washington.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Was 3-1 with a 4.25 ERA. First time he made
- 25:54Speaker 1: it to the big leagues. Now in the rotation this
- 25:58Speaker 1: year from the get-go. The 1-1 pitch. Check swing followed
- 26:04Speaker 1: third base side, 1-2. This is start number 12 for
- 26:08Speaker 1: Cade Cavalli. Two wins, three losses, 386 ERA. Five innings
- 26:15Speaker 1: to start, ten strikeouts, three walks per nine innings. Ramirez,
- 26:22Speaker 1: he's at third, two down in the scoreless first. And
- 26:25Speaker 1: the 1-2 pitch. Got him swinging good looking curveball. Strikes
- 26:32Speaker 1: out Manzardo. And we've played an inning in downtown Cleveland.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Scoreless on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 26:41Speaker 7: News Radio 570 WKBN Youngstown.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Brian Montse informs us this game is on an historical pace.
- 26:58Speaker 1: No score, second inning, left on left. Fastball up and
- 27:02Speaker 1: in from Joey Cantillo to the DH, Dalen Lyle. Cantillo,
- 27:10Speaker 1: the set, made 29 pitches in that first inning. He fires,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and it's fouled back and out of play, one and one.
- 27:17Speaker 1: According to Brian Motze, the major league record, and it's
- 27:22Speaker 1: only two months old, most challenges... In the ABS system
- 27:27Speaker 1: this year in a major league game, 12. We have
- 27:31Speaker 1: five in the first inning. The pitch. Down low, ball two,
- 27:36Speaker 1: two and one. So right now, we're on pace for
- 27:40Speaker 1: 45 challenges. Let's see if that slows down. But 12 challenges,
- 27:46Speaker 1: the most in a game this year. Thank you, Motts.
- 27:49Speaker 1: The pitch to Lyle. And it nailed the outside corner
- 27:53Speaker 1: in the count two and two. Marathon knows you fans
- 27:57Speaker 1: are the true co-pilot of any team. Marathon here to
- 28:00Speaker 1: keep you and your team fueled all season long. Marathon
- 28:04Speaker 1: driven together. Now the two-two. High with the curve ball. Boy,
- 28:19Speaker 1: he just can't right now consistently get the ball down
- 28:22Speaker 1: with his breaking ball. And for Cantillo, this could be
- 28:26Speaker 1: a short night if he can't rein it in from
- 28:30Speaker 1: a pitch count standpoint. The payoff. And it's low and
- 28:35Speaker 1: he walked him. So, three walks already for Cantillo. And
- 28:39Speaker 1: against this lineup, the way they thump leading all the
- 28:43Speaker 1: baseball in home runs and doubles You are asking for trouble.
- 28:52Speaker 1: So Cantillo has not made more than four walks in
- 28:57Speaker 1: a start this year. He's had three here in the
- 28:59Speaker 1: second inning. Here's Jacob Young, the center fielder. Had a
- 29:03Speaker 1: homer last night. He takes. It's a touch high. Ball one.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Cleveland did have to make a move after the game.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Great job by Logan Allen out of the pen last
- 29:14Speaker 1: night to save the bullpen with four innings. Of an
- 29:19Speaker 1: essence scoreless run. The two off of unearned. That change
- 29:24Speaker 1: up in the dirt and Cantillo looks flustered on the mound.
- 29:27Speaker 1: 2-0 the count. But Cleveland needed a fresh arm. And
- 29:34Speaker 1: so going to get the first look of a youngster
- 29:38Speaker 1: who wasn't even on the forehand. squad. Here's the 2-0 pitch.
- 29:44Speaker 1: A swing and a shot on one hop. Back up
- 29:46Speaker 1: the middle by the diving. Pazana into center. Oh, Jacob
- 29:50Speaker 1: Young squared that baby up. And a base hit to center.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Lyle has to stop at second. That ball was just
- 29:58Speaker 1: simply hit too hard. And so, two on with nobody out.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Will Dion is now in the Cleveland bullpen. He'll give
- 30:10Speaker 1: them some length tonight if they need it. Though he
- 30:13Speaker 1: didn't pitch a ton of innings in Columbus this year.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Being used out of the bullpen, but can give you
- 30:22Speaker 1: multiple innings. Nassim Nunez at the plate. See if he's bunting.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Cleveland up at the corners. He'll bat right-handed. He'll not
- 30:32Speaker 1: show bunt. He'll take a change-up strike. This Washington ball
- 30:37Speaker 1: club leading all of baseball in runs scored. The pitch,
- 30:50Speaker 1: and it's high, and he doesn't show bunt again. And
- 30:53Speaker 1: the count now one and one. When it comes to
- 30:56Speaker 1: the sacrifice bunt, only one bunt by Jacob Young this year.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Who just whistled that base hit into center. That pitch
- 31:09Speaker 1: down low. Nope, called a strike, I beg your pardon.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Nunez at the plate has five sack bunts. Washington, like Cleveland,
- 31:18Speaker 1: bunts a lot. Ten for the Nats, eleven for Cleveland.
- 31:23Speaker 1: but not here in the early innings. No score, two on,
- 31:26Speaker 1: nobody out. The turn, but no throw. Nunez, some feel,
- 31:32Speaker 1: is Washington's best shortstop, but they have C.J. Abrams there,
- 31:37Speaker 1: and he wants to play short, and of course, a
- 31:40Speaker 1: couple of years, he'll be a free agent. Now the one-two,
- 31:44Speaker 1: down in the dirt, two and two, and another curveball.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Not even a competitive curveball. These curveballs are not close
- 31:53Speaker 1: And four. Joey Cantillo even split 21 strikes, 21 balls.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Now the one thing about Cantillo, he's been one of
- 32:03Speaker 1: the best in the game, went in trouble. The 2-2.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Down low, it kicked away from Bailey. That was a changeup.
- 32:14Speaker 1: And everybody moves up on the wild pitch. Now two
- 32:19Speaker 1: wild pitches, three walks, We haven't seen Carl Willis yet.
- 32:28Speaker 1: And now full count on the number eight hitter. Nunez
- 32:30Speaker 1: is batting a buck 88. No home runs. 16 RBIs.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Infield in. And Cantillo with a payoff pitch. Swung on.
- 32:43Speaker 1: This is hit in the air. Shallow left. Kwon charging in.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Makes the catch. Nobody can move up. So a shallow
- 32:51Speaker 1: fly out to left off the bat of Nunez. Keeps
- 32:54Speaker 1: runners at second and third. And this is the oddity
- 32:59Speaker 1: of Joey Cantillo. And it's a good oddity. But he
- 33:03Speaker 1: puts a lot of people on, but then they don't capitalize.
- 33:08Speaker 1: When he's in trouble, the opposition is batting 114 with
- 33:15Speaker 1: men in scoring position. That's the fourth lowest mark in
- 33:19Speaker 1: all of baseball. Here's Cabert Ruiz. Switch hitting catcher batting
- 33:24Speaker 1: right handed. He looks at a called strike. 252 hitter.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Four homers. 22 RBIs. What that tells you is Cantillo
- 33:34Speaker 1: doesn't panic. Maintains composure when he's in trouble. The 0-1.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Down low. Missed with a curve ball. 1-1. But 1-14.
- 33:49Speaker 1: The opposition hits with men in scoring position off Cantillo.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Two runners in scoring position now. Second and third. One out.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Infield in. No score. The pitch. Swung on. Dribbled foul
- 34:01Speaker 1: into the third base dugout where the Guardians are. And
- 34:05Speaker 1: the count one and two. Lyle at third. Young at second.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Ruiz at the plate awaiting the one-two pitch. Again, infield in.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Here it comes. And he chops one up the middle
- 34:28Speaker 1: by the diving Rocio. That scores two. That's what happens
- 34:32Speaker 1: when the infield's in. And a weak chopper like that
- 34:36Speaker 1: finds a hole. Instead of an out with the infield in,
- 34:40Speaker 1: that becomes a two-run single to left center. The old adage,
- 34:44Speaker 1: the infield in adds about 100 points to a hitter's
- 34:48Speaker 1: batting average. And Cantillo's finally paid a price. And here
- 34:53Speaker 1: comes the pitching coach, Carl Willis. As right now, Washington
- 34:58Speaker 1: has a 2-0 lead, and they're just picking up where
- 35:01Speaker 1: they left off. Last night, 10 runs on 15 hits,
- 35:06Speaker 1: 6 of them home runs. Tonight, a walk, a single,
- 35:11Speaker 1: a wild pitch, a drawn-in infield, a little weak chopper,
- 35:15Speaker 1: found a hole and a two-run single to left center,
- 35:18Speaker 1: and now you turn the lineup back over. Whenever the
- 35:22Speaker 1: Guardians win, Northeast Ohio Ford dealers donate $ 500 to Cleveland
- 35:28Speaker 1: Guardians charities that'll support youth sports in Cleveland. James Woods
- 35:34Speaker 1: struck out his first time up. Left on left. Ruiz
- 35:37Speaker 1: at first. One out. The pitch. And it's inside. A
- 35:41Speaker 1: ball missing on the curveball. This will be the 50th
- 35:48Speaker 1: pitch in the ballgame for Cantillo. One out here in
- 35:53Speaker 1: the second inning. Here it comes. And it's in there.
- 35:56Speaker 1: A strike. Boy, he's not thrown many fastballs. Finally threw
- 36:01Speaker 1: one there. But that was only... 91 miles an hour.
- 36:04Speaker 1: That might have been a get-me-over fastball, but that get-me-over
- 36:07Speaker 1: fastball can go a long way if you're not careful.
- 36:12Speaker 1: The next pitch, whack to deep right. Well, there she goes.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Down the line and gone. A two-run home run on
- 36:20Speaker 1: an absolute missile. Down the right field line by James Wood.
- 36:25Speaker 6: 4-0 Washington.
- 36:32Speaker 1: He threw him a changeup. And again, Washington hasn't been
- 36:37Speaker 1: fooled in either game by off speed. Changeups have been
- 36:43Speaker 1: Tanner Bybee and Joey Cantillo's best pitches this year. Nobody's
- 36:48Speaker 1: been hitting them. Washington hasn't been fooled two nights in
- 36:52Speaker 1: a row. 4-0 Nationals. Wood has 15 homers, 37 RBIs.
- 37:01Speaker 1: The pitch, up high, ball one to Curtis Meade. So
- 37:06Speaker 1: he got away with it in the first, but Cantillo
- 37:09Speaker 1: doesn't get away with the lack of command here in
- 37:13Speaker 1: the second. The pitch, and it's down low, 2-0 the count.
- 37:18Speaker 10: Tommy touched on it, the fastball velocity down, and he's
- 37:21Speaker 10: got to throw that fastball to make the changeup look
- 37:24Speaker 10: better if it's going well, but he just hasn't had
- 37:27Speaker 10: that tonight.
- 37:28Speaker 1: The pitch... And it's ball three down low. 3-0 the count.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Cantillo's ready. Here it comes. In there, a strike. Well,
- 37:48Speaker 1: last night, only three innings out of Tanner Bybee. You
- 37:51Speaker 1: can't go to the bullpen this early. But you also
- 37:55Speaker 1: are trying to stay in the game. Now the 3-1 pitch.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Swing and a chopper to third. Foul. Full count. One out.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Nobody on.
- 38:07Speaker 5: 4-0.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Washington living up to its billing as baseball's best offense.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Cantillo lets it fly. And the pitch pounded foul. Third
- 38:23Speaker 1: base side will do it again at 3-2 on Curtis
- 38:26Speaker 1: Meade who walked his first time up. Cantillo came in
- 38:33Speaker 1: with an ERA of. 305, and Washington is smoking hot. The.
- 38:41Speaker 1: 32 checked on a curve down and in. I mean, folks,
- 38:44Speaker 1: they're not chasing anything. They never seem to flinch or
- 38:49Speaker 1: be fooled by a curveball or a changeup. That is
- 38:54Speaker 1: the fourth walk issued by Cantillo. And here comes Andres Chaparro. Chaparro.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Grounded out his first time up. Right-handed batter. The pitch.
- 39:14Speaker 1: And he got it in there. Called strike on the curveball.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Cleveland's bullpen will get busy. Cody Hoyer, the right-hander. The
- 39:29Speaker 1: next offering, in there again, strike two. Well, you don't
- 39:33Speaker 1: want to torch your bullpen. The good news is you've
- 39:36Speaker 1: got an off day Thursday, but you also can't just
- 39:40Speaker 1: chuck away two games in the early going. Last night
- 39:46Speaker 1: and tonight, the pitch... Up high, one and two to count.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Runner at first. One down. 4-0 Washington. Second inning. The pitch.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Runner goes. Swung on. Skied foul back and out of play. Boy,
- 40:08Speaker 1: are they getting big jumps on Cantillo. Who's ever doing
- 40:12Speaker 1: their advanced scouting is doing a great job for the
- 40:16Speaker 1: Washington Nationals. My goodness. They're ultra-athletic, they're ultra-aggressive, and they
- 40:25Speaker 1: have really taken it to Cleveland last night and now tonight.
- 40:31Speaker 1: There he started, stops Meade with a fly ball, shallow center.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Schneeman coming in to grab it. Two down. Eighth man
- 40:40Speaker 1: to bat in the inning will be C.J. Abrams. Walked
- 40:43Speaker 1: his first time up. Runner at first, two down, Nats
- 40:51Speaker 1: up 4-0 with a four-run second. Joey Cantillo has not
- 40:58Speaker 1: given up more than four runs in any start this year.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Nationals have four in one inning. The pitch. Check swing, foul,
- 41:12Speaker 1: strike one. Well, the good news is for Cleveland, they're
- 41:18Speaker 1: Only in the second inning. Long way to go in
- 41:20Speaker 1: this one. Now the 0-1. Swung on. Lifted in the air. Foul.
- 41:37Speaker 1: This is going to reach the home plate seating area.
- 41:40Speaker 3: 0-2.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Cantillo. Hands chest high. A look at first. Here it comes.
- 42:03Speaker 1: And it's popped up again. Behind the plate. And again,
- 42:07Speaker 1: a souvenir. And again, they count 0-2. Now the pitch,
- 42:32Speaker 1: pulled foul right side. He went changeup, and again. There
- 42:37Speaker 1: are no swings and misses from this Nats lineup the
- 42:41Speaker 1: first two nights. Still an 0-2 count. Now time called.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Now the 0-2. Down and away, one and two to count. Boy,
- 43:07Speaker 1: there are just no quick advance. They are torture for
- 43:12Speaker 1: this Cleveland pitching staff. Five pitches and counting for C.J. Abrams.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Cantillo is about to make his 69th pitch of the night,
- 43:22Speaker 1: and we're in the second inning. 40th pitch of this inning.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Here it comes. Runner goes. Pitch taken. Outside throw to
- 43:31Speaker 1: second of beauty. Tag made by Rocchio on the head
- 43:34Speaker 1: first sliding Curtis Meade. An absolute bazooka throw by Patrick
- 43:40Speaker 1: Bailey to gun down Curtis Meade. We go to the
- 43:44Speaker 1: bottom of the second. 4-0 Nance. Big crowds tonight for
- 43:49Speaker 1: Sugardale Dollar Dog Night at Progressive Field.
- 43:52Speaker 11: Ah, the sounds of sun. Nothing pulls fans to the
- 43:56Speaker 11: concession stand like a Sugardale dollar dog. And don't forget,
- 44:01Speaker 11: you can enjoy that same mouth-watering Sugardale hot dog at home.

- 44:14Speaker 11: Make tonight a Sugardale hot dog night.

- 45:32Speaker 7: News Radio 570 WKBN. Youngstown.
- 45:46Speaker 1: 4-0 Washington. Daniel Schneeman leading off. The right-hander, Kurt Cavalli,
- 45:53Speaker 1: catches the inside corner. Called strike. Schneeman, another guy that
- 45:59Speaker 1: has been in a bit of a slide. Left-handed hitter
- 46:02Speaker 1: in center field. The pitch from Cavalli outside a ball
- 46:09Speaker 1: to even the count.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Schneeman.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Schneeman. Has now batted 145 in the month of May. Cavalli,
- 46:23Speaker 1: that hybrid delivery, and it's waved at through by him. So,
- 46:30Speaker 1: one-two count on Daniel Schneeman, who's had a good year
- 46:33Speaker 1: playing everywhere. 243 batting mark, four homers, 19 RBIs. Cleveland
- 46:42Speaker 1: looking for a spark to get back in it. Schneeman
- 46:45Speaker 1: fouling it to the upper deck. One ball, two strikes.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Angel Martinez, Stephen Kwan to follow. Cavalli's pitch. And it
- 47:07Speaker 1: is swung on. Hit in the air. Fairly deep. Toward
- 47:10Speaker 1: the line. Left field. Out of play. Foul. Do it again.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Had a ball and two strikes. Delightful night on the
- 47:28Speaker 1: shores of Lake Erie. 70 degrees. An absence of wind.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Cloud cover. But delightful. Now the 1-2. Got him swinging.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Moved that ball in on the thumbs and Schneeman out
- 47:42Speaker 1: number one, strikeout number two. There's Angel Martinez, switch hitter
- 47:48Speaker 1: in left field. He'll bat left handed. He is in
- 47:52Speaker 1: a two for 23 skid. Bunch of guys have gone
- 48:01Speaker 1: cold at the same time. The pitch. And a swing
- 48:07Speaker 1: and a broken bat. Lupert in the second baseman. Nunez
- 48:11Speaker 1: out to Snagit in shallow right. Not much mustard on that.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Two down. Here's Stephen Kwan batting 204 with a homer.
- 48:21Speaker 1: And 12 RBIs. Two down, nobody on. Cleveland down, four zip.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Cavalli lets it fly. Showing bunt, taking a strike. Stephen Kwan,
- 48:45Speaker 1: nothing and one to count.
- 48:51Speaker 3: The next offering.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Way outside a ball and a strike. Cody Hoyer back throwing,
- 49:12Speaker 1: so that means the night is over for Joey Cantillo.
- 49:15Speaker 1: One would assume that's because he made 40 pitches in
- 49:19Speaker 1: that second inning. Boy, you've got to be careful making
- 49:22Speaker 1: that many pitches in an inning. Pitches wide, 2-1. Boston's
- 49:27Speaker 1: in town Friday night. Dollar Dogs, Big Fireworks Show. And
- 49:31Speaker 1: tickets still available, CLEGuardians.com. Two down, second inning, 4-0 Washington.
- 49:41Speaker 1: The 2-1 pitch to Kwon. And it's a strike, 2-2.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Cade Cavalli. Made his major league debut in August of 2022.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Then Tommy John surgery and it was three years later
- 50:00Speaker 1: before he pitched again in the big leagues. Pitches down low,
- 50:03Speaker 1: full count. Boy, the University of Oklahoma has produced some
- 50:09Speaker 1: Hard-throwing right-handers in particular when you think of Major League
- 50:14Speaker 1: pitchers that were Oklahoma Sooners. Now the payoff pitch. And
- 50:22Speaker 1: Kwon hits one in the air to left field. Not deep.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Wood backing up a little bit. And another quick inning
- 50:30Speaker 1: for Cleveland. 4-0 Washington. Third is next. This is the
- 50:34Speaker 1: Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 50:38Speaker 7: News Radio 570 WKBN, Youngstown.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Well, the night is over for Joey Cantillo, and just
- 50:53Speaker 1: had a tough time landing his secondary pitches consistently for strength,
- 50:59Speaker 1: so Cody Hoyer takes over for Joey Cantillo. 4-0 Nats,
- 51:04Speaker 1: third inning. Cleanup man C.J. Abrams checks on a pitch
- 51:08Speaker 1: down and in. Ball one. Well, this Cleveland rotation has
- 51:13Speaker 1: been so good, so consistent, that you'll have a couple
- 51:18Speaker 1: of hiccups like tonight, last night. It's part of the game.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Hoyer cuts, or I should say delivers, and Abrams cuts
- 51:26Speaker 1: and misses. Hoyer making his third appearance. Been back and
- 51:31Speaker 1: forth here a little bit. He's only worked two and
- 51:34Speaker 1: two-thirds innings, giving up a run. The pitch, and Abrams
- 51:38Speaker 1: sends one high and foul out of play, third base side.
- 51:44Speaker 1: And they count one and two. Now the problem for
- 51:47Speaker 1: Joey Cantillo, too, is that he had to make 40
- 51:51Speaker 1: pitches in that second inning. The pitch, down and in.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Two and two. That's an area where manager and pitching
- 52:00Speaker 1: coach get really concerned. 69 pitches in two innings is
- 52:05Speaker 1: a boatload, but 40 in one inning, that's the red flag.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Now the 2-2. Hoyer's pitch is whacked into right field.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Base hit Abrams. Well, I tell you what, you could
- 52:18Speaker 1: watch Abrams and Wood step into the box and never
- 52:22Speaker 1: get tired of watching them swing the lumber, unless you're
- 52:25Speaker 1: that guy 60 feet, 6 inches away. They have two
- 52:30Speaker 1: pretty swings. Young mid-20s players. Impact franchise type players. And
- 52:39Speaker 1: they hit one and four in the Nats lineup. Here's
- 52:43Speaker 1: Dylan Cruz, the right fielder. He takes, and it's in there,
- 52:47Speaker 1: a called strike. Dylan Cruz, he is trying to get
- 52:53Speaker 1: his career headed in the same direction of his former
- 52:57Speaker 1: college teammate, Paul Skeens. The pitch leans him back. You
- 53:03Speaker 1: wonder how LSU won a national title? Well, they had
- 53:06Speaker 1: the two top picks in the draft in 2023. Paul
- 53:10Speaker 1: Skeens went to the Pirates, then Dylan Cruz to Washington.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Pitch way outside 2-1-1. Max Clark, the young high school
- 53:20Speaker 1: outfielder that is going to be in Detroit in the
- 53:24Speaker 1: not-too-distant future, was the third pick. three years ago Wyatt
- 53:28Speaker 1: Langford we've seen him with Texas he was the fourth
- 53:31Speaker 1: pick coming out of the University of Florida the pitch
- 53:35Speaker 1: check swing did he go yep on the appeal two
- 53:38Speaker 1: and two that was the same draft that got Jacob
- 53:42Speaker 1: Wilson to Oakland the athletics outstanding young shortstop what a
- 53:50Speaker 1: incredible first round that was now the 2-2 delivery Swung on,
- 54:00Speaker 1: hit in the air. Deep right, back is Martinez in
- 54:03Speaker 1: front of the track to corral it. Cruz out number one.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Abrams stays at first. For Cleveland, 2023 draft pretty good
- 54:18Speaker 1: for them too. Ralphie Velasquez. We may see him in
- 54:24Speaker 1: Cleveland make his Major League debut this summer at the
- 54:27Speaker 1: age of 21. What a first round. Here's Dalen Lyle.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Walked his first time up. Cody Hoyer guns one over
- 54:36Speaker 1: to first and back with the dive is Abrams who
- 54:39Speaker 1: has seven stolen bases. 4-0 Nats. Third inning. One out,
- 54:49Speaker 1: one on. The pitch down and in blocked by Bailey
- 54:52Speaker 1: and the ball scoots up the first baseline on the
- 54:55Speaker 1: grass but Abrams didn't see it, so he stayed put
- 55:00Speaker 1: at first. Washington got a two-run single from Cabert Ruiz
- 55:07Speaker 1: in the second inning, followed by a two-run home run
- 55:11Speaker 1: to right by James Wood. 4-0 Nance. The pitch, and
- 55:16Speaker 1: it's fouled back 1-1. It's only been two nights, but
- 55:21Speaker 1: we're just not seeing these Nationals swing and miss. They're
- 55:25Speaker 1: not putting a ball in play. They're hitting something hard foul.
- 55:33Speaker 1: The 1-1. Just missed outside. Maybe low.
- 55:37Speaker 7: 2-1.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Cody Hoyer. He fires. And the pitch tapped foul. Right
- 55:52Speaker 1: side to even the count. Hoyer's throwing in the mid-90s. Fastball, slider, changeup.
- 56:08Speaker 1: Left-handed hitting Lyle. The pitch to him. And it's down low.
- 56:15Speaker 1: Changeup miss. Full count. The next offering is swung on,
- 56:31Speaker 1: lifted high in the air to deep right. Martinez back
- 56:35Speaker 1: on the track, in the corner. He's got room to
- 56:37Speaker 1: make the catch. And he'll fire it in before Abrams
- 56:41Speaker 1: can tag and go to second. Lyle gave it a
- 56:44Speaker 1: ride deep into the right field corner for out number two.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Now Jacob Young, 4-0 Washington. Runner at first, two down,
- 56:54Speaker 1: third inning. Young singled in the four-run second. The pitch
- 57:12Speaker 1: to him is wide, ball one. Cody Hoyer pitched collegiately
- 57:16Speaker 1: at Wichita State University. The pitch, way outside, ball two, 2-0.
- 57:30Speaker 1: He's pitched in the big leagues, White Sox, Cubs, Texas, Detroit,
- 57:34Speaker 1: now Cleveland. but he also missed a lot of time
- 57:42Speaker 1: recovering from elbow surgeries. Pitch is in there. He did
- 57:48Speaker 1: not pitch in the major leagues for four years. From
- 57:53Speaker 1: 2021 through part of 2025, he had had two different
- 57:57Speaker 1: elbow surgeries, including Tommy John. The pitch, swung on, grounded
- 58:02Speaker 1: sharply up the middle, flagged down by Rocchio, spinning throw
- 58:05Speaker 1: to first in the dirt, dug out by Manzardo. Well done.
- 58:10Speaker 1: One range up the middle by Brian Rocchio to his left,
- 58:13Speaker 1: doing that 360 spin and throw. And he gets Jacob
- 58:20Speaker 1: Young to end the inning. And it stays 4-0 Washington.
- 58:24Speaker 1: They head to the bottom of the third.
- 58:26Speaker 5: Our yoga instructor challenged us to find inner peace. I

- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Switch hitting catcher Patrick Bailey leads off the third. 4-0 Washington.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Cuts and misses. Cade Cavalli. Bailey, a 143 hitter. Couple
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: of home runs. Eight RBIs. Catching back-to-back games. The pitch.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: In the dirt. Evens the count. One ball, one strike.
- 1:00:52Speaker 10: The Guardians would love to have some long at-bats here
- 1:00:55Speaker 10: and work the counts on Cavalli, but he's only walked
- 1:00:58Speaker 10: seven in his last seven starts, so he's been coming
- 1:01:01Speaker 10: on as the season has moved along.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Now the wind-up and the 1-1 pitch. Outside, ball two, 2-1.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: The next delivery is waved at. Two balls, two strikes.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: This is the Hyundai Grand Slam giveaway inning. Tonight's contestant,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: James Dalla Costa of Cleveland. Now the pitch and strike
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: three called on the outside corner. Third strikeout for Cavalli.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Bailey out looking. Brian Rocchio. hitting. 381 over the last
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: 14 games. Guardians get a grand slam here in the third.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: James Dalla Costa of Cleveland wins the Hyundai Kona. Courtesy
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: of your Northern Ohio Hyundai dealers, visit HyundaiGrandSlam.com to win.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Now the pitch, and it's whacked into right field. Base
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: hit Brian Roquio. So Cleveland with its second hit. Down
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: 4-0 here in the third. Top of the order. Let's
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: see how Cleveland's approach changes. If it does, or if
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: they have any more success. Second time through the lineup.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Travis Bozzana grounded out his first time up. Left-handed hitter.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Hits out of a crouch. Bat wig-wagging above his helmet.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: And he takes off speed outside. Ball one. Well, Cade Cavalli,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: who has a. 336 batting average against him by left-handed hitters.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: No real big issues so far. He delivers. And it's
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: off speed, and it's in there called strength. One and
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: one to come. He is an Oklahoma kid through and through.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: The 1-1. Before it's made a throw to first. Amazing
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: how many kids that grow up in the state of
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Oklahoma stay home. Either go to Norman or Stillwater. Oklahoma
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: and Oklahoma State, two outstanding college baseball programs. Now the 1-1.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Bounced it in there. Nice block by Ruiz keeping the
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: ball in front of him. No advance by Rocchio and
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: a 2-1 count on Bozzana. Not much of a lead
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: for Rocchio. Cavalli's ready. Hands just above the belt. The
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: pitch missed inside. Threw him the slider and almost hit him.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: 3-1 the count on Bozzana. Cavalli hasn't had to work much.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: 26 pitches total in the first two innings. Now the 3-1.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Ball four. He missed outside. So for the first time tonight,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Cleveland's got two men aboard in the same inning. Bozzana
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: heads to first. Rocio advances to second. Jose Ramirez could
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: get Cleveland back into this game with the one swing
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: of the bat. Jose doubled his first time up on
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: a ball that should have been caught in shallow left
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: by somebody. Up to the mound to visit is Cabert Ruiz.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Ramirez Has swung the bat better. We just still haven't
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: seen him carry the club like you know he will.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: The pitch to him. And it's in there. A called
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: strike on a curve. And quite frankly, until somebody behind
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: him gets hot, they're really going to be almost Near
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: perfect when facing Ramirez as far as their pitch selection.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: The pitch, it's a weak bouncer to short. Abrams will
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: go to first. He'll get Ramirez. Rocio to third. Lozano
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: to second. Two down. So here's Chase DeLauder. Grounded out
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: his only timeout. Base hit here could put Cleveland on
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: the board. Cut the deficit in half. 4-0 Nationals. Second
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: and third occupied. Two down, third inning. DeLauder three hits
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: in his last 28 at-bats. The set and the pitch.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: In the dirt. What a stop by Ruiz going to
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: his right. And that got a part of his body
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: that has got him in severe agony. What a save
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: by Ruiz. And a 1-0 count on De Lauder. These
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: catchers take such a beating behind the plate to save
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: their pitchers wild pitches and runs from scoring. De Lauder
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: trying to get This offense kick-started with one swing of
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: the bat. Here it comes. And he hits a weak
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: chopper to second. Chin high hop handled by Nunez. He'll
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: throw him out. Will go to the fourth. It's a
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: 4-0 ballgame. Washington leads Cleveland on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
