- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, let me get this going here, and I'll
- 0:04Speaker 1: bring up the phone in her face and there she is,
- 0:08Speaker 1: magically appearing. It's time to talk to our delightful friend
- 0:12Speaker 1: from a Nightingale college.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Elena Wood. Good morning, Elena.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Good morning, delightful. I really like that.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Well, you are delightful.
- 0:21Speaker 1: You you want to tell you tell us how to
- 0:24Speaker 1: take care of our hearts.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Yes, okay, I would love to tell you how to
- 0:30Speaker 3: take care of your hearty. February is American Heart months,
- 0:34Speaker 3: so it felt very important to cover today. The first
- 0:39Speaker 3: thing we want to do is to know your numbers.
- 0:43Speaker 3: And these are numbers like your blood pressure, cholesterol levels,
- 0:48Speaker 3: and even your blood sugar.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Telephone telephone number, social security phone.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Number, your home address, those kinds of things.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Also talk about checking blood pressure.
- 0:59Speaker 4: I was gonna just say I had no idea I
- 1:01Speaker 4: had high blood pressure, because it's not always something that
- 1:04Speaker 4: you can feel that you have. And I went to
- 1:07Speaker 4: the doctor and she's like, hey, yeah, so your medication.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Checking your blood pressure is easy these days with these
- 1:13Speaker 1: little cuffs that they have. But yeah, now, so I
- 1:18Speaker 1: think somebody told me you should do it first thing
- 1:20Speaker 1: in the morning, check your blood pressure.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I just don't have time to do that in the morning.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Do you have to do it? You have to do
- 1:27Speaker 2: it in the morning.
- 1:29Speaker 3: You don't have to do it in the morning. Part
- 1:31Speaker 3: of the recommendation is that you do it at the
- 1:34Speaker 3: same time each day, so that you have a really
- 1:38Speaker 3: steady baseline. Also, generally first thing in the morning, we
- 1:43Speaker 3: haven't gotten super stressed out about the day yet we
- 1:47Speaker 3: still have our like resting heart rate from our sleeve,
- 1:50Speaker 3: at least in theory, and so that's where that recommendation
- 1:53Speaker 3: comes from. But if that doesn't work for you, maybe
- 1:56Speaker 3: after you get home from work you can sit and
- 1:59Speaker 3: relax for a few and test it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Then that's what I'll do. What's next next is.
- 2:06Speaker 3: To reduce stress, and we've talked a lot about this,
- 2:10Speaker 3: I know, so practices like setting healthy boundaries, taking time
- 2:17Speaker 3: for yourself, doing meditation, reading, listening to music, just anything
- 2:23Speaker 3: that can kind of help you feel that calm and
- 2:26Speaker 3: peace in your life.
- 2:28Speaker 2: As moving to Europe on that lesson.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Oh, for some of us it might be.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:37Speaker 3: What's next next, of course, is to eat a balanced diet,
- 2:43Speaker 3: and this includes plenty of fiber, healthy fats, fruits and vegetables,
- 2:48Speaker 3: and of course, like I always say, drinking lots and
- 2:51Speaker 3: lots of water.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Okay, Next is weep.
- 2:58Speaker 3: And I know this is a big one all of you.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I could hear the groans before I even said it.
- 3:07Speaker 3: So studies have shown anywhere between seven to nine hours
- 3:11Speaker 3: at night is ideal for most adults, and it might
- 3:15Speaker 3: be different for you, just based on your your own
- 3:19Speaker 3: physical attributes as well as lifestyle things. So just try
- 3:23Speaker 3: and find the sweet spot for you. And if you're
- 3:25Speaker 3: not able to get enough sleep at night, and nap
- 3:28Speaker 3: does count?
- 3:29Speaker 2: All right?
- 3:29Speaker 4: There, I got permission to nap from a lane, granted.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Next is to try to get more active, moving our
- 3:39Speaker 3: bodies more and more each day. And this can be
- 3:42Speaker 3: formal exercise like going to the gym taking a fitness class.
- 3:47Speaker 3: This can also be informal exercise such as parking our
- 3:51Speaker 3: cars further away, taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Just little things like that that we can do to
- 3:57Speaker 3: add a tiny bit into each day.
- 4:00Speaker 2: All right, I'll try.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I know you do. Nobody wants me to live longer
- 4:09Speaker 2: than Alanda.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Does I really care? Deep?
- 4:12Speaker 2: Please? What's next?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Next is to stop smoking? Wow? I don't even know
- 4:25Speaker 3: what to do with all of this responsibility.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Just enjoy it, okay, it means you're important.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Oh wow, you are flattering me today. I don't even
- 4:36Speaker 3: know what to do with.
- 4:37Speaker 2: All of this now.
- 4:39Speaker 1: They say, so, you said their vaping is slightly less harmful.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I guess that is true.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Slightly yes, slightly less harmful, but it does still have
- 4:48Speaker 3: some of those negative impacts. And one of the things
- 4:51Speaker 3: that does happen with vaping is people tend to do
- 4:54Speaker 3: it a little bit more so I think they make
- 4:57Speaker 3: up for it a little less harm in the amount
- 5:01Speaker 3: that they're doing.
- 5:01Speaker 2: But it tastes like bubblegum.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I know, I know, so fun. Just choose the bubble gum.
- 5:07Speaker 2: There you go. Yeah, that's good. Anything else we need
- 5:12Speaker 2: to do?
- 5:14Speaker 4: You know?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Those are all of the themes for taking care of
- 5:17Speaker 3: your heart health today.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And good enough be in love if you can that?
- 5:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah a good feelings. I love that.
- 5:25Speaker 2: If you want to find out more what should you do?
- 5:27Speaker 2: With Lena Wood?
- 5:29Speaker 3: You can learn more about this as well as Nightingale's
- 5:32Speaker 3: great programs by visiting Nightingales dot edu.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Thank you, it's always a pleasure. We'll talk to you
- 5:37Speaker 1: again soon a bite.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Sounds great guy.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Thank you,
