- 0:33Hamster with a blunt pen knife they're doing.
- 0:35Quicker, quicker. Welcome back to a hamster with a
- 0:39blunt Pen knife, The Monoid Commentary podcast, where as of
- 0:46about 1 minutes time we will only speaking mime, so we hope
- 0:50you enjoy the show. I believe Monoid.
- 0:55Hang on, hang on, hang on. I've just invented this this
- 0:58collar thing that as long as your collar is switched on, you
- 1:02should in fact be able to make some sort of speech sound.
- 1:06That's the Megarians, isn't it? Before the Megarians, the
- 1:09monoids got got there first. That's hardly a denial.
- 1:14Simply a bromide, you might say. Yes, I wonder how many monoids
- 1:18will spot who may be murderers because they or may not be who
- 1:22they're claiming to be because they don't turn their
- 1:26translators on. Is it, you know, it's state of
- 1:28decay, You know when they suggest that over time, You
- 1:31know, what's it called? The law of continental shift,
- 1:33How things change over time? Yes.
- 1:35Can you get sort of considerably more stupid over time?
- 1:39Because that seems to be what's happened in 700 years, sort of
- 1:42Monoids, even though they've taken over and they have brute
- 1:44strength on their side, they're all a bit thick now.
- 1:49Well, yeah, I I expect that probably 700 years cooped up in
- 1:54a spaceship, you can get a bit stupid.
- 1:58Can we put a a political spin on this?
- 2:01Is it making a statement about rampant nationalism making you
- 2:07thick? Where are we 700 years ago?
- 2:09James 2025 that takes us. 1314 I wasn't there. 1425 What was
- 2:17happening then? 1425 it's the dark ages.
- 2:21Oh, just no one knows. Is that the dark age?
- 2:24I don't it's I'm afraid that's that's a that's a part of
- 2:27history I. Don't really know very much that
- 2:29we have gone stupider and more reactive, you know.
- 2:33What on this podcast? Oh, no, sort of.
- 2:36In England, Yeah, when I remind you, it would have been heavily
- 2:39religious. Well, look, look, look, go on.
- 2:40Let's given that I'm saying that there is a an admittedly
- 2:44generous interpretation of this as having a sum something
- 2:49interesting to say politically and it's clearly got a message
- 2:54and I think this is undeniable. It's got a message about it's
- 3:01better to to work together. Unity don't treat people like
- 3:05shit. So then so you're talking about
- 3:09this book. OK, so, so, but as as a part of
- 3:13that, that viewpoint, if you're, if you're saying that
- 3:19everything's better when races work together, you know, monoid
- 3:24and human and refusing whatever, then then as part of that, then
- 3:29maybe you are saying that going it alone and trying to put
- 3:34yourself at the top of our hierarchy purely based on
- 3:38something as as simplistic as race and and therefore cutting
- 3:45out swathes of people from your worldview is a stupid worldview.
- 3:49And so maybe that's why the Monoids is that tenuous.
- 3:52Bravo, Sir. May I ask, Sir?
- 3:56I mean, I'm convinced, but then I usually just nod and smile at
- 3:59most of the things you say. I.
- 4:01Mean look because because I'm I'm standing by the the idea
- 4:08that the general outlook of this however, compromised the
- 4:11realization and however unsophisticated the right here.
- 4:17I think that Ericsson is trying to say that we are enriched by
- 4:22having more people contributing to our culture.
- 4:28And so the monoids have, by cutting out all of the everyone,
- 4:33everyone else from their worldview have become a very
- 4:36limited race. Now, I don't think that's
- 4:39deliberate at all. I think it's just poor writing.
- 4:41But we, we can. We can make excuses for it.
- 4:45I feel we may have reached the peak of this podcast now,
- 4:50wherein within this commentary, you know, an extremely smart and
- 4:54sophisticated man has made an argument for Doctor Who
- 4:58commenting on the the, you know, the moral right of unity in in
- 5:04the universe, but in. Doing so has used the words
- 5:08monoid, refusian, and humans. I mean, this podcast brings me
- 5:14such joy. I mean, yes, also no Should we
- 5:23watch an episode? Let's.
- 5:24Watch an episode and it's going to have daring do with silly
- 5:28monoids and flappy feet and security kitchens.
- 5:30Is. This the episode where?
- 5:32She says. What are you up to?
- 5:34Are you planning something? And the monoid goes no, no I'm
- 5:39not. Is that this?
- 5:41Episode is that episode. Four.
- 5:42I can't remember. They slightly roll into one at
- 5:44this point. I mean, he is so stupid that
- 5:46more like, well, OK, come on, you count us in.
- 5:49And I'm going to keep keep a close eye on these political
- 5:53machinations. See if you're accurate.
- 5:55Or not. So we're going to start what's
- 5:58episode 3 called? We're about to find out.
- 6:03Mystery episode will begin in 321.
- 6:10Is there more fun? Doing this in person?
- 6:16Oh dear. I should be sad.
- 6:18When you're 2D. Again, you know, OK, here we go.
- 6:23Now I think it's called. No, I have no idea what this
- 6:27episode's called 700 years later.
- 6:30No, I'd remember that. It's a better episode than that.
- 6:32What's what's it called? The the the final episode's
- 6:34called the bomb, right? The bomb.
- 6:37That sounds very exciting. Oh, I think we're not.
- 6:40Going to see the title now until.
- 6:42Until the. That's a new shot that wasn't in
- 6:44the last one, was it? Looking down at the Yeah.
- 6:47We shot that, but the model shot remains the same.
- 6:49And you can see right up that. No you can't.
- 6:52I'm sure they have the return. 700 years later.
- 6:57Probably the return is not not the most exciting.
- 7:00Well, now I'll say the Steel Sky is especially impressive in that
- 7:03model shot. It's disquieting.
- 7:08Obviously now we're in a different context, but but
- 7:11coming so soon after that shot of the earth burning, it's a
- 7:17culmination of quite disquieting images, isn't it?
- 7:20Yes. What the statue having a monoid
- 7:24head do you mean? Why can't a monoid be a top of
- 7:28the totem? Pole that's well, that is a
- 7:30really good question. That's a an interesting question
- 7:32because actually there's there's nothing per SE that should
- 7:35bother us about the monoids being.
- 7:37Recommended just elected, you know, obviously they would have
- 7:40called him centrist, the monoid that they're.
- 7:43All called Charles or. Or maybe they just call
- 7:46themselves monoid 1 and monoid 2 is that?
- 7:49The Folian web I can see there or the Great Galactic Map.
- 7:54So hang on, are we, what segment of time are we in now then 700
- 7:57years later about that, that's what the 45th segment of time?
- 8:01Lance Barking has probably worked today.
- 8:02Oh, you. Bitch.
- 8:05Yeah, well, I've got all 5 volumes in there.
- 8:07Well, you can look. It up, I will too it.
- 8:10Should be 1 of. The latest, it'll be in the last
- 8:12volume. Yeah, that's.
- 8:14Right. Oh, do you see that scream wipe
- 8:16there? Very Star Wars, yes.
- 8:19George Lucas was watching this. OK, they're all stored in
- 8:22microform. Oh, hello.
- 8:24One of the Guardians is handing out a dream.
- 8:27They are still wearing those costumes.
- 8:29They've weathered very well. Oh oh.
- 8:33Who is this hand? Is it the?
- 8:34Borat gesturing off screen there.
- 8:37Now at this point, I am reminded of the reason why the monoids
- 8:40are quite disturbing. It's because they all have Ann
- 8:43Widdecombe's hairstyle. Then they all begin to behave
- 8:47like Ann Widdecombe in this episode.
- 8:49And you notice how they waddle about the forest set.
- 8:52Like. Ann Widdecombe, like she did on
- 8:53the Strictly Dance. Too much like dance floor.
- 8:58Shame they don't get dragged about like she did that time
- 9:00when she buffed up the floor. Do you remember?
- 9:03Are you dressed up like a? Canary or something?
- 9:05Yeah, they might as well address you like a.
- 9:07Mono, I feel like they might have ironed the back cloth
- 9:09actually. It looks a bit cleaner this time
- 9:11around, yeah. Monoid too.
- 9:14And he's armed with a gun, which sort of spits out.
- 9:20Oh, look, no, he's got his. He's got his translator.
- 9:26They all sort of sound like that.
- 9:28They all. Sort of sound.
- 9:30Like that. We should have thought about
- 9:32this James and done the entire commentary like monoids.
- 9:35It would have been a bit tedious.
- 9:38Should you be monoid one or monoid 2?
- 9:40Oh, I defer to you, so I'll be numbered.
- 9:43I mean, this is where it, this is where the the good intentions
- 9:46just fall flat because if you are setting out to show them as
- 9:50a race that do have a culture and a civilisation and our
- 9:54intelligence, don't just give them numbers.
- 9:57Yeah. And well, no, And I mean, I
- 10:01wouldn't exactly say the Guardians in one and two were
- 10:04given much sophisticated character.
- 10:05But they were called but. It's more than.
- 10:09They all had different variations of the name Zentos.
- 10:12Even with that funeral ritual, the monoids were shown to have
- 10:15more of a culture than they are now, which is just brutes.
- 10:20I mean, we don't even find out. Like, yeah, we find out that
- 10:23they revolted because of how badly they were treated, but
- 10:27there's no motive for why they want to stay in charge.
- 10:30Why they you're like? Is it just because they don't
- 10:32want it to happen again? I mean, it's but now they're
- 10:36getting humans to to bring them wine and they get fancy chairs
- 10:40with Laurel wreaths on. Come in, come on, just give them
- 10:48a name. Monoy, Joe and Monoy, James.
- 10:52Oh, they they found they've they've they've the Bonoys have
- 10:56been to a car boot sale and found episode 2 of the Ark.
- 10:59Oh. Forgotten.
- 11:00We've already got that one. Couldn't they have found the
- 11:03massacre? Good grief.
- 11:07Although. It was a good.
- 11:07Shot it's worth seeing. It was a good shot, worth seeing
- 11:10again. But we have to see the whole.
- 11:11Bit where it vanishes, yeah, I think it is, yeah.
- 11:14See ya says Dodo OK I feel as if the storytelling is more
- 11:22simplistic here as well like it's talking down a bit now
- 11:25whereas in it one and two everything would move fast and
- 11:28it was constantly throwing ideas you're.
- 11:29Right. And the pace has dropped, hasn't
- 11:31it? Yeah, I mean it does pick up a a
- 11:35bit. It does.
- 11:37When they go down, I'm. Standing by my theory, which is
- 11:40that someone who doesn't really know how to write science
- 11:42fiction is trying to write science fiction because it's
- 11:46there's a lot of cliche suddenly.
- 11:50How would you write it differently?
- 11:56Where? Oh, really?
- 11:58Wow. I wouldn't be doing that for a
- 12:02start, I wouldn't be. Are they?
- 12:04Telling us what we just watched in episode 2.
- 12:06I wouldn't be recapping what's gone on.
- 12:11Yes. Better one for us.
- 12:12Clanky Dodo. You know, you said about some of
- 12:15the eyes and the monoids. Monoid #1 looks constantly
- 12:19shocked. Yeah.
- 12:22So I'm going to try and buy a ping pong ball and put it in my
- 12:26mouth and roll it about a bit. I think that's quite a hard
- 12:29thing to do. Now that's a that is a
- 12:32patronising idea. The idea that the monoids
- 12:34couldn't take over until the humans had helped them to
- 12:37develop voice boxes. The security kitchen.
- 12:45Yes, now you are going to see some fine pill.
- 12:48Spuds in a minute. Well, I mean, I can think of
- 12:52worse places to keep what that enemy of the world where he's
- 12:55kept in a corridor. I bet Gordon Ramsay has a
- 12:58security kitchen and. What for his closely guarded
- 13:02secrets? Oh I love this look.
- 13:05He gives him some fruit. I think he slaps.
- 13:07Him, doesn't he? How do they eat?
- 13:09How do they eat? Oh, that's a good point.
- 13:13You don't actually see it. Do you?
- 13:15No. OK, OK, so these are new actors,
- 13:20aren't they? Yeah, they're all new actors.
- 13:21It's a whole new cast and that's that's correct because.
- 13:25It's a very busy kitchen. You can see a lot of smoke
- 13:27everywhere. You know, they're clearly
- 13:28boiling lots of things. No, after 700 years it should be
- 13:31a new cast. I just feel like if you've
- 13:33established, people have been. Venusa.
- 13:36Her name is Venusa. Venusa.
- 13:38Yeah. See these exes, they're very
- 13:40popular. I mean, don't you think that's
- 13:45quite a smart idea? You know they can not only be
- 13:47kept under guard, but also cook for them.
- 13:49Yeah, you know, it makes I'm not look, the concept of a security
- 13:53kitchen is is is a is a fine one.
- 13:57But it just sounds very amusing. Mind you, you'd which I mean,
- 14:02how confident would you feel eating the food prepared by
- 14:06people who you'd were? Enslaving.
- 14:08Well, quiet, but. Then that's what that's that's
- 14:12exactly what happened in in the Empire.
- 14:15So. If they dared to present me with
- 14:18food I didn't like, I'd shoot them with my smoked gun.
- 14:24Dear Stephen's. Trousers are.
- 14:26Very tight and it's. Not very hygienic sleeping in
- 14:29your security kitchen, is it? Wow.
- 14:32No, but they want all the rooms for themselves.
- 14:34You know, decadence. Hartnell's hands.
- 14:37I've not strayed from his lapels.
- 14:45How in space could you do it now?
- 14:48That's what people will say when there's no longer an Earth.
- 14:51That's right. Oh, that's quite clever,
- 14:53actually. I mean, it's not.
- 14:55It's very awkward. But yeah, you're right.
- 14:59You know, maybe this is a right? Who's not very used to writing
- 15:03science? He doesn't feel like he's in the
- 15:05most comfortable. We will create.
- 15:07Monoid world that sounds. Like a theme park.
- 15:12These poor actors had to put monoid 3 on their CVS.
- 15:16Jacqueline Rayner, can you? Draw up the.
- 15:18Plans, please, for Monoid worlds.
- 15:20Honestly, I'll build it. I'll fund it all right.
- 15:24Well, there'll be a there'll be a kitchen, yeah.
- 15:27What is this Roy Skelton doing? The voices?
- 15:30I'm getting a sense of zippy. From Oh yeah, definitely very
- 15:33much. That's that's Roy.
- 15:36Actually, it's a bit more like George did you.
- 15:39Who was your favorite character on Rainbow?
- 15:40Can I just ask you quickly? It was.
- 15:42Sippy, but why? Why did you not like Zippy?
- 15:47I did like Zippy, but I look back and I kind of go, I look
- 15:50back at a lot of the things I liked as a child and think that.
- 15:53Was. Weird and freaky like Emu.
- 15:57Oh, I used to love Emu. Have you seen any recently?
- 16:02Well, no, I mean I like crock bags the best out of Emu, you
- 16:05know, Didn't she have that weird crocodile that she hanged out
- 16:08with? The sort of clockwork crocodile
- 16:10and a tin Man A. Clockwork Crocodile.
- 16:13Yeah, don't you remember? I don't remember that I can't.
- 16:17Remember what his name was she used to hit him over the head
- 16:19with. A broomstick it.
- 16:22Was great. Oh, George was very cute.
- 16:26What the hippo? Yeah, that makes you feel a bit
- 16:31make it has you the EPO is. It the Dalek he is where he
- 16:36Dalek's the Early Years tape where where he does that voice.
- 16:39What the George voice I? Think so.
- 16:41Or one. Or it's the Cyberman one where
- 16:43Roy Skelton says, well, I can't say goodbye in my own voice.
- 16:47I feel like I might be the zippy of podcasting.
- 16:51You know. Who's my George?
- 16:54Then who's my George? And As for Bungle, well, that.
- 17:00'D be Fraser. Yeah, hairy.
- 17:03Useless. Yeah, who can't understand a
- 17:08word he says? Yeah.
- 17:10Oh my God. You're Geoffrey who's keeping
- 17:12you all in order. No one keeps me in order.
- 17:15Good grief, who does the best job of keeping me in order?
- 17:21Oh, I can't think actually. Oh, this is a very bad action
- 17:25sequence. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:27See it's. It has gone a bit.
- 17:28Off the rails. Isn't it?
- 17:30It feels like it's directed by someone else.
- 17:32Have they, have they sacked him by now?
- 17:34No, maybe this was the episode they went, oh, this ain't good
- 17:37enough, He said. No, watch episode 1.
- 17:39I did all the panning shots in episode 1.
- 17:42But you did say this went over budget as well, didn't you?
- 17:45It was quite expensive. I don't know.
- 17:49Oh. Excuse me, this is where those
- 17:52ribbons are not covering. Nearly enough.
- 17:54God, they are where they are though.
- 17:58Episode 1 came in at, I think, nearly double the usual cost of
- 18:03an episode. But that's the elephant and the
- 18:05and the jungle and and the. At least you can see it.
- 18:09You can totally see it. And I think that's, I think
- 18:11that's John Wyles saying let's. It's when something like the
- 18:14Chase went over budget and you're like.
- 18:17How like was Richard Martin off to Fortnum's after every single
- 18:23YEAH with the rest of the money? OK, great.
- 18:26It looks a bit like one of those telephone kiosks, doesn't it?
- 18:29Yeah. What do you think they're making
- 18:33in there? This would be a popcorn machine
- 18:36or something like that. Oh, look at this that the.
- 18:38Shuttle Bay. There's loads of little shuttles
- 18:41in there now. Oh, the door comes down quick.
- 18:43Before you realise it's a perspective backdrop.
- 18:46OK, are we going down to refuses #2 anytime soon?
- 18:51Why are you? Have you bought?
- 18:53Have you tired of this? We've been in a spaceship, the
- 18:58whole commentary, you know? They refer to each other by
- 19:01numbers. It's not.
- 19:02That's not good enough. Can we do that for Episode 4?
- 19:07I'll be two you. Want to be two?
- 19:08OK, I'll be 1. OK.
- 19:10Oh, what's going on here? Oh, the shuttle will leave your
- 19:13shuttle. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:15That's quite nice. That's a nice shot, yeah.
- 19:17I mean, I've seen worse. Why are they sending the doctor
- 19:20and Dodo down? What's on the planet?
- 19:23Or like Canaries you know that you send down.
- 19:25Into a mine. Yeah, OK.
- 19:28Yeah, but with one. Guard one guard, so that's fine.
- 19:31There's nothing which. Number is HE2. 2.
- 19:33No one likes him. 2 has gone down. 2 is the terrible gossip
- 19:37he's been spreading all? Thoughts about worms?
- 19:39So I said send him down with them, he can keep.
- 19:41An eye on them. I love it.
- 19:44I love Hartnall's professionalism.
- 19:46He's like, OK, we've landed. OK, I think it might be the same
- 19:53jungle from Part 1, you know? Do you think?
- 19:56I think they've redressed it with some alien foliage and it's
- 19:59got a different. Sort of, sort of a mountainous.
- 20:02No, but look, it's got the, it's got the kind of fur furry stuff
- 20:05on it. I think that is a perfectly
- 20:08credible way of making the same set look like a.
- 20:10Completely, absolutely love candy floss.
- 20:12Don't you look at that tree. Actually, it reminds me of one
- 20:16of those furry plants from Mission to the.
- 20:19Unknown Varga plants. Yeah.
- 20:24Oh, we're way beyond Varga plants.
- 20:25No, no, they've got more. All the cotton wool installed
- 20:28still so. Right, so now we've got
- 20:29invisible aliens. So again, how?
- 20:31Are we suggesting this? He's having a sit down look.
- 20:36His arse must have been massive. I think he's going to play with
- 20:38the leavers now. Oh, there we go.
- 20:41He's worked out how to wear the doors.
- 20:43OK, I mean, imagine watching this for that.
- 20:45You're like, what the hell is going?
- 20:46On. And we've got a voice saying.
- 20:50Now this is where I wonder if Paul Edison is has stuffs a
- 20:58couple too many sci-fi cliches into his already quite packed
- 21:02script. We have had invisible people
- 21:04just in the Dalits Master plan, yeah.
- 21:06Very, very recently. What are these ones called?
- 21:09The Refusian and. Refusians.
- 21:11Also, is that anything to do with being invisible?
- 21:13Refusing. Refusing to be seen.
- 21:16Oh, well done. OK, how quickly do they?
- 21:23Realise that there are. Invisible people here.
- 21:26Oh, this is it it. It won't take.
- 21:28As long as you might think, chica.
- 21:31What do you mean? Are you up to something?
- 21:33Oh, oh, someone's ever heard me. No.
- 21:37You gave yourself away, didn't you, James?
- 21:41I've got a. Feeling when the time comes
- 21:43you're. Not going to finish.
- 21:44This commentary on a haps world lump and knife.
- 21:50Oh, he. Figured that out quickly.
- 21:55Oh, is. This where he's found the
- 21:56fabulous palace. Look, they're.
- 21:58Invisible. Oh my God, it's some.
- 22:00Sort of Castle. Oh, it's some sort.
- 22:02Of minarets. And everything.
- 22:03Yeah, lovely. I love it when they go in.
- 22:08And to suggest elegance, there's a table and there is Roman
- 22:12columns. And.
- 22:18Are they being followed? Are we going to see a little?
- 22:20Oh yes. The foliage twitched slightly,
- 22:24but Harnell now. I mean the way he stands.
- 22:27In the room and has to chat with the Invisible Man.
- 22:31I mean, there's. Not a hint of embarrassment in.
- 22:33Him is there No, it's. Also this.
- 22:37Is this is fine? I think the.
- 22:42The most egregious thing about this episode is how the monoids
- 22:48are written because it just stretches credibility.
- 22:52I think that the second it comes down to the.
- 22:54Planet it picks up yeah, yeah, and and it's.
- 22:56Got that? Kind of.
- 23:00It's. It's got the kind of Voyage of
- 23:02the Dawn Treader vibe, hasn't it, where they're arriving at a
- 23:04new planet and they don't. I mean, that's got invisible
- 23:06people in one of the episodes, doesn't it?
- 23:08But it's it's, it's, it's doing, it's perfectly competent.
- 23:13I think it's not necessarily made.
- 23:17In a perfectly. Competent way and I as I say, I
- 23:19feel like the monoids being. What's he doing there?
- 23:24He's bashing up the place for no reason.
- 23:26Stop throwing the. Flowers around you idiot.
- 23:29Put that thing. Down.
- 23:31That's no way to establish friendship.
- 23:32There's Doctor. Who again, it's teaching
- 23:34diplomacy, but again. Is he making?
- 23:36A political point there, he says.
- 23:38The sooner they learn. To respect us, the better.
- 23:41You brute. I mean, they're so.
- 23:45Stupid. How did they ever take over?
- 23:50Oh, smash your balls if you don't show yourself.
- 23:53Yeah, but do you? Know what I've seen?
- 23:55Negotiation this cat handed from.
- 24:00Certain politicians in. The last few years.
- 24:03Oh, you know Boris. Johnson, do you, Theresa May and
- 24:07actually Speaking of. Hairstyles.
- 24:08This one. 'S very Boris Johnson.
- 24:12Especially have you seen him recently?
- 24:13I can't see it now. He's really let himself go.
- 24:15To seed. Has he gone full monoid?
- 24:17He's gone full monoid. That was quite.
- 24:20Nice. The way you put the flowers
- 24:22there in. Lovely.
- 24:22That's a nice effect. That gun is very subtle.
- 24:27You know, it's like a big Tulip. I don't like this because.
- 24:35Because they've got on scene. One is that monoid. 34.
- 24:40Oh my God, that's the monoid are there.
- 24:41That's the monoid equivalent of a red sweatshirt, isn't it?
- 24:44Oh, he's going to be the. Next one down on the planet.
- 24:47Yeah, we need an invasion for 734.
- 24:50He's no longer need how? Many monoids are there.
- 24:52Do we ever find out? Well, there's at least. 34 We
- 24:56can say that with confidence, yeah, but I ain't going to.
- 24:58Have 34 extras. Are they on the screen?
- 25:00Not on the screen, no. Obviously that's they could
- 25:04have. They could have been a bit more
- 25:05inventive of the numbering system, really couldn't lay and
- 25:07have Monoid 107 and they could. Do you know what they?
- 25:10Do with the Daleks and do cut out monoids in the background,
- 25:15hundreds of them. Oh.
- 25:17You know that? The whole thing about the bomb
- 25:19being in the statue. Is just glorious.
- 25:24But that is proper. B Movie Science.
- 25:26Fiction, isn't it? I think that's the.
- 25:30That's so the idea is what? They're going to go down on the
- 25:32planet refuses to the monoids leave the human race up here and
- 25:37blow them up with the statue. But what will happen to the?
- 25:39Elephant. Well, they don't.
- 25:41Care. They're they're evil.
- 25:45Oh, what's that? A load of chicken.
- 25:46That's a lot of chicken. Can you imagine if that?
- 25:49Was so lovely. At the end of the day you've had
- 25:50a hard day's work, come home, throw a pill in some water and
- 25:54then the light of roast chicken emerges.
- 25:56Why do they? Need as.
- 25:59This is why the. Kitchen's for used for security
- 26:02because you actually don't need any preparation space because
- 26:04you're literally just dropping some liquid never thought about.
- 26:07That you know, so actually it's a very.
- 26:09Sensible retooling of the kitchen area?
- 26:12Well, we've got a. Kitchen.
- 26:14We might as well use the space. Yeah, OK.
- 26:19I've had this story makes us think about the tough question,
- 26:22you know? Do you think this is?
- 26:26This is the better of the two arc stories.
- 26:29You know, with the last of humanity out in space, No, I
- 26:33don't. Think it is the better of the
- 26:34two arc stories, do you? I mean, I think this is more fun
- 26:39than the arc in space, but I think the arc in space is a a
- 26:42far more effective piece of drama.
- 26:44I actually. Think the.
- 26:45Arc in. Space is really good fun.
- 26:46Well, no, it's. About a load of insects planting
- 26:50eggs inside people and then tearing them inside out.
- 26:55Is that your idea of? Fun.
- 26:58Yes, but it's got the doctor and Harry Sullivan moving around
- 27:02under a table. Actually their.
- 27:04Ass is sticking out. It's very funny.
- 27:08How many times have you watched the arc of the space?
- 27:09Recently, Jones. Quite quite.
- 27:12Quite a few. I shan't say why.
- 27:17Oh, I love as. Well, how the refusions?
- 27:20Have got the mysterious alien voice that every God like being
- 27:24in Star Trek has Captain Kirk. It's actually a cliche.
- 27:30That they managed. To avoid mostly in Doctor Who.
- 27:33So who is doing? That voice this.
- 27:36Is quite actually you're. Right, this is quite Star Trek
- 27:38original series, isn't it? Down.
- 27:41On the planet, Yeah. Red shirts.
- 27:51I think I actually want to. Murder, the refusions, I mean,
- 27:54it's just outrageous, I think. The big ideas.
- 28:01Have all stopped as well, you know, like we've blown our load
- 28:05in. Episodes one and two,
- 28:06absolutely. That and so that's why I say,
- 28:09although it's thematically consistent, I don't think it's,
- 28:12I don't think it's a particularly complex or deep
- 28:17political viewpoint that needs kind of extrapolating over 2
- 28:22episodes. Yen Dom, that man's name.
- 28:25Is yen Dom. That's what I was just about to
- 28:28say to you. Now, I can't quite describe to
- 28:31you how. That makes me feel yen Dom.
- 28:36Yeah, but his mother. Was called Durex all right?
- 28:44Oh God of mighty, there's there's probably a.
- 28:47Book in that you know it's the space.
- 28:49Names of Doctor Who. You could do a whole volume for
- 28:52Chipnall, couldn't you those? Sort of people.
- 29:00Isn't there somebody? Called cervix in Or is it a
- 29:04thief? Oh no, Salvix.
- 29:06Salvix, That's it. Yeah.
- 29:09OK, so then. That's been blown.
- 29:11So the refu did the refusing blow up the the yeah, yeah,
- 29:15yeah, because. The monoid. #2 wanted to get
- 29:17back to the launcher. He.
- 29:19Said no, you're not going anywhere.
- 29:21All right, We know you're up to. No good.
- 29:23OK, so. I mean.
- 29:26Just got a little bit of debris. And they're pumping in a bit of
- 29:29smoke to suggest that the launch has been blown up in a really.
- 29:36Oh dodo. No, she's OK.
- 29:39What if they? Don't come, James.
- 29:42That's not. Much of a cliffhanger.
- 29:44Is it I mean? Why?
- 29:45Wasn't the cliffhanger then finding out that the bomb is in
- 29:48the statue? That would be a great
- 29:50cliffhanger or anything. Or.
- 29:52The, or because I mean, it's also the, what the cliffhanger
- 29:56ought to be is the threat of some kind of civil war on this.
- 30:02But, well, it's not a civil war, but it's a, you know, the, the
- 30:05invade, it's escalation, isn't it?
- 30:07The the Refusians are clearly going to match whatever the
- 30:13monoids bring. So we're we're the threat there.
- 30:16Is that the human race getting caught in a full story?
- 30:19Editor Jerry. Davis.
- 30:20Yeah, he's in. He's.
- 30:21Just in, so this is nothing to do.
- 30:24With Tosh then. It's, I think Tosh was very much
- 30:29involved in the conception. Was Jerry Davis.
- 30:35On all I think Jerry Davis officially took over for this
- 30:38story, but. Maybe that?
- 30:41Now I'm going to make a suggestion because I think the
- 30:44ideas are sophisticated, but sometimes how they are scripted
- 30:48is not so. And I certainly think that both
- 30:52the ideas in the stories before this and how they're scripted is
- 30:58quite mature indeed. Are you?
- 31:01Spying the hand of Jerry Davis, I'm wondering.
- 31:04Slightly clumsy now. The bits where.
- 31:05Centrist was. Declaring to camera or dodo
- 31:09just. Then going oh.
- 31:10What if they never come for us? I can't.
- 31:12See those? Lines in earlier scripts in the
- 31:15season, yeah. I think you may have, I think
- 31:19you may have a point there. And then what do we skip into?
- 31:21Next after this is it the Celestial Toy Maker?
- 31:23That's a. Car crash of many writers making
- 31:28this is where we. Go from.
- 31:29Dodo saying oh what a lovely. Clown he is.
- 31:32Oh, I hate you. You're a bad clown.
- 31:35But maybe the next game will be. Fun after all, Steven.
- 31:39He is hurt. I'm going to leave my square and
- 31:42see if he's okay. You rotter boy.
- 31:46Hopscotch. Cut it on you saying that.
