- 0:00Speaker 1: Another day of the next round. Along with Lance Taylor,
- 0:02Speaker 1: I'm Ryan Brown. Dunaway continuing his vacation in Ireland. We
- 0:05Speaker 1: say hello to you on Sport and State. It is
- 0:09Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet. Hardrock.bet.com. We'll
- 0:14Speaker 1: tell you more about them coming up. Tyler Johns, Scott Forrester,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Brooks Carter, all in the back room there. Making us
- 0:21Speaker 1: look good and sound good. Keeping us between the lines there.
- 0:24Speaker 2: We always appreciate them doing that.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Lance Taylor playing a little bit under the weather. I
- 0:28Speaker 1: think all of us have been sick of late at
- 0:30Speaker 1: one point or the other.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You know, I typically have that 24 hours. We might
- 0:33Speaker 3: have talked about this a couple of weeks ago where
- 0:35Speaker 3: you have the seasonal change. But, you know, Leighton went
- 0:38Speaker 3: out to L.A. a couple of weeks ago. She came
- 0:40Speaker 3: back with COVID. And then Jack got COVID last week.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Are you telling me I'm being exposed to COVID?
- 0:45Speaker 3: I told you yesterday when I walked in, I felt
- 0:47Speaker 3: like complete horseshit. And it might be COVID. It might
- 0:50Speaker 3: be seasonal change. I really don't know. I just feel
- 0:53Speaker 3: there's not much you can do about it. And, you know.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I don't think anybody's going to feel sorry for me
- 0:58Speaker 3: talking four hours with a sore throat.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It's not exactly digging ditches or laying asphalt, so it
- 1:03Speaker 1: is much easier. But you do have a sore throat.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I was telling you I was watching a movie last
- 1:06Speaker 3: night called The Wait. I know Tyler has seen this
- 1:09Speaker 3: with Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe. But he basically gets arrested,
- 1:12Speaker 3: and he's on one of these. It's not even a
- 1:14Speaker 3: work release because they're still incarcerated, but they do get
- 1:18Speaker 3: daily wages. But basically just moving rock with a pickaxe.
- 1:23Speaker 1: That is the.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I remember that movie now. Yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 3: No, you really don't because it just came out a
- 1:28Speaker 3: couple months ago.
- 1:28Speaker 1: No, I remember the preview.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 1:30Speaker 1: No, no, no. I obviously haven't seen it. I've seen
- 1:32Speaker 1: very few movies, but I remember the trailer and thinking, wow,
- 1:36Speaker 1: they're going to make a whole movie out.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Of that, huh? Yeah.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I don't think you would have loved it. I thought
- 1:40Speaker 3: it was really, really well done. You described it as gritty. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 3: It was. A lot of violence. But anyway, with all
- 1:47Speaker 3: that said, these dudes are out there in the heat
- 1:50Speaker 3: having to wear full Canadian tuxedos, head-to-toe, denim, and just
- 1:55Speaker 3: swinging pickaxe.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Meanwhile, yesterday, I was trying to figure out how to
- 2:01Speaker 1: do a golf swing, my normal golf swing with my
- 2:03Speaker 1: pinky injury here.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I thought you practiced at home.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Well, without a ball, though, Tyler, and without hitting the ground.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You know, the ground impact changed it a little bit.
- 2:12Speaker 3: It is different.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah, those are important parts in playing golf.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And all I did at home was just hold a
- 2:19Speaker 1: club and see, you know, if I could grip the
- 2:21Speaker 1: club enough to swing it and check mark right there.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So I'm like, I'm going to be fine. And I
- 2:25Speaker 1: go play yesterday after the show, and I get to
- 2:27Speaker 1: the driving range to warm up, and the first time
- 2:29Speaker 1: I hit the ground, I'm like, okay, this is going
- 2:30Speaker 1: to be a little different.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I've got to figure this out. What does the ball weigh,
- 2:32Speaker 3: three ounces?
- 2:33Speaker 1: It's not even really the ball. It's the ground impact.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I don't know what it weighs.
- 2:36Speaker 3: So as long as you're hitting it clean, it's fine.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Like driver, I mean, fine, because I'm not hitting the
- 2:42Speaker 1: ground with a driver. But anything at the ground with
- 2:43Speaker 1: was a little bit different. But I want you to
- 2:45Speaker 1: know I fall through. I'll fall through. So probably about
- 2:49Speaker 1: the third hole, I had it figured out, and I
- 2:51Speaker 1: was good to go. So everybody settle down. I've got
- 2:53Speaker 1: this under control. I'm still going to be able to
- 2:55Speaker 1: play golf with this injury.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Well, you don't want to further your injury. We don't
- 2:59Speaker 3: want to have to put you on IR.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I don't want to make it worse, but I think
- 3:03Speaker 1: I can manage through it and continue to heal while
- 3:05Speaker 1: I play. I'm going to play hurt for about a month, probably.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah, actually, I go back now that we're... Jordan only
- 3:10Speaker 3: had one flu game.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Oh, I'm going to have a series of flu games.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I'm probably going to have a series of COVID games.
- 3:16Speaker 3: No, I was about to flip this around on you.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Was it not you at the end of the week
- 3:18Speaker 3: that barely you were running on fumes because you couldn't
- 3:21Speaker 3: even talk?
- 3:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:22Speaker 3: So maybe you gave this to me.
- 3:23Speaker 1: No, I think that was just sinus. I don't know.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I never had a fever. I thought, am I wrong
- 3:27Speaker 1: about this? Somebody in the back room tell me, am
- 3:30Speaker 1: I wrong about this? I thought you could not pass
- 3:34Speaker 1: along a sickness unless you were running a fever.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. I don't know if that's necessarily true.
- 3:41Speaker 5: No, I don't think that's true.
- 3:43Speaker 6: I thought once you're on antibiotics, you usually can no
- 3:47Speaker 6: longer pass along a sickness.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I think if it's viral, you don't have to have
- 3:51Speaker 3: a fever.
- 3:52Speaker 1: But I thought that was all.
- 3:53Speaker 4: The University of Rochester says, yes, you can be contagious
- 3:57Speaker 4: even without a fever. You can be contagious before symptoms start,
- 4:02Speaker 4: during mild or non-fever illnesses, like common colds and mild
- 4:07Speaker 4: cases of flu or COVID.
- 4:09Speaker 6: Yeah, a cough can certainly spread. I mean, that was
- 4:12Speaker 6: the whole reason behind the masks.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but I thought you weren't communicable unless you
- 4:17Speaker 1: had a fever. I always thought that was like the
- 4:18Speaker 1: measuring stick. Are they running a fever?
- 4:20Speaker 4: No.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Well, let's send them to school.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Isn't that what we do?
- 4:23Speaker 4: Well, with COVID, there was a huge fear about people
- 4:26Speaker 4: being asymptomatic carriers and getting people sick.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I don't have a fever right now. My ears feel
- 4:31Speaker 3: like they're about to blow out.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Do they? Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 5: You know what we should do, Ryan?
- 4:36Speaker 6: We should flip this segment and send it to mine, yours,
- 4:39Speaker 6: and Scott's wife, since they're all nurses and they can
- 4:42Speaker 6: tell how ignorant we sound.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Oh, I guarantee you they is.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Oh, my wife would not be surprised.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yeah, if they ever checked in on the show, which
- 4:47Speaker 3: I bet they don't, they're probably just shaking their heads.
- 4:49Speaker 1: No, my wife does watch the show. She's probably watching
- 4:51Speaker 1: at home right now, and if so, I'll get a text. Actually,
- 4:54Speaker 1: I think she had a hair appointment. But because the
- 4:58Speaker 1: other day when we were talking about Cajun food, she
- 5:02Speaker 1: texted me and she says, no joke i was planning
- 5:04Speaker 1: on making jambalaya for dinner i was like she's like
- 5:07Speaker 1: i don't have to do it if you don't want
- 5:08Speaker 1: i was like no i literally said one is great
- 5:11Speaker 1: i just don't want it meal after meal after.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Meal just exit off for 2026 that's right we'll revisit
- 5:16Speaker 3: first quarter.
- 5:16Speaker 1: That's right we don't have to do it again this
- 5:18Speaker 1: week but one jambalaya fantastic so she made jambalaya for
- 5:22Speaker 1: dinner was very good um Look, in the chat, I know, guys,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I'm not a doctor. I freely admit I've said many
- 5:29Speaker 1: times I did not go to Jacksonville State's medical school
- 5:31Speaker 1: or their school of law. So when I talk medicine
- 5:34Speaker 1: and law, you should never take it as the gospel.
- 5:36Speaker 1: You should always consult your local attorney or your local physician.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Don't go by what I say, but I just throw out,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, things just to see if they're true or not.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I think it's best in general to not take a
- 5:46Speaker 4: podcaster's advice like to heart.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I would tend to agree on that.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And I think it's more of a just a long perspective.
- 5:55Speaker 3: We've been around for so long that you just you
- 5:57Speaker 3: build your own theories.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 3: And you feel like, I guess, that if somebody doesn't
- 6:02Speaker 3: have a fever, you can't spread it.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Richard is right. Fever-free for 24 hours
- 6:06Speaker 1: is the school rule, and that's why I think what
- 6:09Speaker 1: I think.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, that is definitely the school rule.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Fever and diarrhea-free and vomiting-free.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I've never heard the diarrhea or the vomiting part.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the diarrhea goes without saying because you
- 6:18Speaker 3: can't really leave the house, right?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Pretty much, yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Some of these schools are strict, and they don't accept
- 6:24Speaker 4: the doctor's notes after the fact.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I'm not sending my kid to shit himself at school.
- 6:29Speaker 2: That's right.
- 6:30Speaker 4: I wouldn't either.
- 6:31Speaker 1: If he's got the diarrhea, he's going to stay home.
- 6:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Or she.
- 6:34Speaker 1: It's not just limited to males.
- 6:36Speaker 2: So....
- 6:39Speaker 1: I say I hope you get to feeling better.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Oh, thanks.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Thank you for fighting through. Thank you for fighting through.
- 6:43Speaker 1: We're a man down already. We can't be two men down.
- 6:45Speaker 3: That's a lot to ask. It was not going to happen.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah. We always start where the last thing we saw
- 6:51Speaker 1: last night is we start a reminder Hard Rock Bet.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Hardrock.bet backslash clay right now. And you can bet $ 5.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Get them $ 500.
- 6:57Speaker 2: And no sweat bets.
- 7:00Speaker 3: We're eligible.
- 7:01Speaker 1: That's when you go to hardrock.bet, sign up and use
- 7:04Speaker 1: backslash clay.
- 7:05Speaker 3: It's very easy.
- 7:06Speaker 1: That's the way I signed up when I was up
- 7:07Speaker 1: in Tennessee, hardrock.bet backslash clay. And as a reminder, you've
- 7:12Speaker 1: probably heard about Hard Rock by now. You may not
- 7:15Speaker 1: know Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook app is available. In many states,
- 7:20Speaker 1: it is the only legal sportsbook in the state of Florida. Therefore,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you know it's the most trustworthy option in the market.
- 7:27Speaker 1: It is also available in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan,
- 7:31Speaker 1: New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, or Virginia. And you can play
- 7:35Speaker 1: right now, as I mentioned, and get those no-sweat bets.
- 7:37Speaker 1: HardRock.bet backslash Clay. Bet $ 5, get up to $ 500 in
- 7:42Speaker 1: no-sweat bets. And tomorrow, don't forget, they've got their special
- 7:45Speaker 1: Thursday same-game parlay profit boost. for Thursday night's action. So
- 7:51Speaker 1: you can get all that right there at hardrock.bet backslash clay.
- 7:56Speaker 1: So we had an actual Rays win last night. The
- 7:58Speaker 1: Brewers were looking to close out in a sweep the
- 8:01Speaker 1: World Series. It took 12 innings, but the Rays said, no, sir,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you're not closing it out on our field. We'll extend
- 8:06Speaker 1: this thing at least one more night. They'll play again tonight.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But a very exciting finish last night in extra innings.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Cooper Pratt was so good for the Brewers, and they
- 8:14Speaker 3: were three outs away after his solo shot in the
- 8:16Speaker 3: top half of the 12th. from winning their first ever
- 8:19Speaker 3: World Series. And then the Rays. Ben Williamson comes up.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Bases loaded.
- 8:24Speaker 2: No outs.
- 8:25Speaker 3: He had one postseason hit in his career. Gets the single.
- 8:29Speaker 3: They get the walk-off. They win it 4-3. And, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 3: Kevin Cash, really, we talked about this yesterday. The chances
- 8:34Speaker 3: of them coming back from 0-3 against a red-hot Brewers
- 8:38Speaker 3: team is like slim and none. But you literally have
- 8:41Speaker 3: to go old cliche and take it one game at
- 8:43Speaker 3: a time.
- 8:44Speaker 2: That's right.
- 8:44Speaker 3: And, like, he emptied the clip last night. 21 players,
- 8:47Speaker 3: 14 position players, seven pitchers. Hey, there's no tomorrow. Why not, right?
- 8:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 3: And so they're just going to take this day by day. Like,
- 8:53Speaker 3: you know, they went with their number four guy, Jax,
- 8:56Speaker 3: last night. And, like, moving forward, I think it's just
- 8:58Speaker 3: going to be committee. And they're going to try to
- 9:00Speaker 3: find a way to piece this together. If they can
- 9:02Speaker 3: somehow get this back to game six in Milwaukee, it
- 9:06Speaker 3: becomes somewhat interesting.
- 9:08Speaker 1: If you're a Brewers fan, you want to win it
- 9:10Speaker 1: whenever you can win it. But you also would love
- 9:12Speaker 1: to see it in Milwaukee, wouldn't you? You wouldn't mind
- 9:15Speaker 1: another Rays win to get this back to Milwaukee?
- 9:17Speaker 3: If I'm personally a Brewers fan and I've got a
- 9:18Speaker 3: ticket to game six or seven, I would like to
- 9:20Speaker 3: see it. I would roll the dice. But if I'm
- 9:22Speaker 3: a Brewers fan from anywhere else, I wanted to close
- 9:25Speaker 3: it out last night. I wanted them to close it
- 9:26Speaker 3: out last night because I had the under seven runs.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I think most people... Got this probably at 7.5 because
- 9:32Speaker 3: it did go up. So I had to take a
- 9:33Speaker 3: push last night. So I was hoping that it ended
- 9:35Speaker 3: 3-2 and we were done with baseball until next year.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, more on that in a moment. But, I mean,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it is a roll of the dice. You just want
- 9:43Speaker 1: to win. And listen, if you watch these games, there's
- 9:46Speaker 1: a ton of Brewers fans at these games. These Brewers fans,
- 9:49Speaker 1: their last World Championship was 82, is that right?
- 9:52Speaker 3: No, they've never won one. So their last World Championship
- 9:55Speaker 3: was Noah's Ark? Yeah, it was 82. They were in
- 9:57Speaker 3: the World Series, that's right. Or actually, when they won the.
- 10:00Speaker 2: AL back then.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So basically they are, yeah, it's true, it was, wasn't it?
- 10:05Speaker 3: Old County Stadium.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So basically they're like, we're going to see our team
- 10:09Speaker 1: win this thing. I don't care if I have to
- 10:10Speaker 1: stay in Tampa for three or four days. The weather's nice.
- 10:12Speaker 1: We'll stay here and watch this thing. Because there are
- 10:14Speaker 1: a ton of Brewers fans in the stadium if you
- 10:17Speaker 1: watch this. But I think if you're deep down inside,
- 10:20Speaker 1: if you're a Brewers fan, you're a season ticket holder,
- 10:22Speaker 1: you've gone to all those games, you'd like to see
- 10:24Speaker 1: it get back to your place to win it, but
- 10:25Speaker 1: you don't want to roll the dice. You don't want
- 10:27Speaker 1: to roll the dice.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I mean, I agree. Even if you don't have a
- 10:29Speaker 3: ticket and you're in Milwaukee and you want to experience that,
- 10:32Speaker 3: but you're going to experience it anyway. I can't even
- 10:34Speaker 3: imagine the parade they're going to have, the after celebration.
- 10:38Speaker 1: They will drink Milwaukee dry.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh, yeah. I don't think people will. Of course,
- 10:41Speaker 3: they're professionals. Like, you know, there are, you know, I
- 10:45Speaker 3: remember back in the day, you'd go out on a
- 10:46Speaker 3: Thursday night until 5. three, four in the morning, get
- 10:50Speaker 3: up at eight and go to work. I mean, that,
- 10:51Speaker 3: that is the Milwaukee fan that typifies them. So I
- 10:54Speaker 3: was going to say most of them would miss work
- 10:55Speaker 3: tomorrow if they clinch tonight and win their first ever
- 10:57Speaker 3: world series, but they probably will just go straight to work.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I will just never forget last year when we did
- 11:03Speaker 1: our road show at Gillette's the week of Bama, Wisconsin,
- 11:06Speaker 1: when Wisconsin was in Tuscaloosa with our friends at Bud
- 11:09Speaker 1: Light and we were at Gillette's and we were talking
- 11:12Speaker 1: to the Gillette's owners and they're like, um, Some of
- 11:15Speaker 1: our bar friends, bar owner friends in Wisconsin have told us,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I don't know how much beer you have on hand,
- 11:20Speaker 1: but you don't have enough.
- 11:22Speaker 3: It's such a bold statement.
- 11:24Speaker 1: It really is. But they were like, we know this
- 11:26Speaker 1: fan base. You don't have enough beer. And the Wisconsin
- 11:29Speaker 1: fans traveled very well to that game in Tuscaloosa. And
- 11:32Speaker 1: I remember following up next time we were at Glad's.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I was like, hey. They were like, we didn't have
- 11:36Speaker 1: enough beer. Thank God we listened to them and stocked
- 11:39Speaker 1: up because they would have.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Drunk us up. I've only been in that situation one
- 11:43Speaker 3: time where I saw a venue completely get drank out
- 11:45Speaker 3: of everything and we were at the Beau Ravage and
- 11:48Speaker 3: it was in the summer like 15 years ago and
- 11:51Speaker 3: we just had a really really wild group with us
- 11:54Speaker 3: and there were other wild groups I don't know if
- 11:56Speaker 3: you've ever been to the Beau Ravage it's the only
- 11:58Speaker 3: time I've ever been.
- 11:58Speaker 1: You know I have not I don't go to the
- 12:00Speaker 1: classy places yeah yeah um but we were in the
- 12:03Speaker 1: pool and in five four five in the afternoon they
- 12:05Speaker 1: had run out of everything like the Beau Ravage the
- 12:07Speaker 1: one in Biloxi Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 2: OK.
- 12:09Speaker 3: So like they got to a point they were like,
- 12:10Speaker 3: all we've got right now is like Negro Modelo and Landshark.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Like bring it on.
- 12:16Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 3: And so just kept going until they were like, we
- 12:19Speaker 3: absolutely have no more beer at the pool.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So you and 14 other guys drink a pool dry.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I mean, again, it was the crew with us. It
- 12:27Speaker 3: was like six or seven of us. And then there
- 12:29Speaker 3: were just other pockets of people. But it was like
- 12:31Speaker 3: a perfect storm of. Just mayhem.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 3: But I've only seen it one time. I mean, that's
- 12:36Speaker 3: really hard to do.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I would imagine.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So whenever this is over, I'm sure. And Milwaukee lifts
- 12:42Speaker 1: the trophy. That will be a party like Milwaukee has
- 12:44Speaker 1: not seen in a very long time, if ever.
- 12:46Speaker 5: It was it was pretty crazy when they won the
- 12:48Speaker 5: box championship.
- 12:49Speaker 3: But so you were working there then.
- 12:50Speaker 6: I was working in local news the night that they
- 12:53Speaker 6: won in game six over the Suns.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Because as you know, and you saw this, there were
- 12:58Speaker 1: people there that don't give two rips about the Bucs,
- 12:59Speaker 1: but it was a chance to.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Go out and party, right? They were just at their party.
- 13:02Speaker 6: They call it the deer district around the arena, and
- 13:06Speaker 6: they had an outdoor watch party. There was over 60,000
- 13:08Speaker 6: people outside of Pfizer Forum where the Bucs played that night.
- 13:11Speaker 5: It was crazy.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, that's the thing is those parties just
- 13:14Speaker 1: end up being a party. Like, oh, how long have
- 13:16Speaker 1: you been a Brewers fan? Hadn't watched them all yet.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think it is a little bit different.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Like the Bucs, you get Giannis and everything kind of
- 13:24Speaker 3: falls together because I guess that was the first one
- 13:26Speaker 3: they had won since 1969 with Lou Alcindor. But Brewers fans...
- 13:31Speaker 3: you know, I had a buddy that played for the Brewers.
- 13:33Speaker 3: He talked about that was one of the most passionate
- 13:36Speaker 3: fan bases he's ever seen. I mean, they have been
- 13:39Speaker 3: all in forever. So I think it really is truly
- 13:41Speaker 3: box seem a little bit different. I think the way,
- 13:44Speaker 3: and I know Brooks kind of went through their pecking order,
- 13:46Speaker 3: but it does seem like the Brewers and the Packers,
- 13:48Speaker 3: they've got a huge passion for those.
- 13:50Speaker 6: You talked about the fans traveling the road opponent, like the,
- 13:54Speaker 6: the opponent from this on the other side, I actually
- 13:56Speaker 6: could not have worked out better. They, um, People in
- 13:59Speaker 6: Wisconsin will call themselves the left coast. The Midwesterners go
- 14:03Speaker 6: to the left coast of Florida. Northeasterners snowbird on the
- 14:07Speaker 6: right coast of Florida.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I don't know why we've got to separate.
- 14:10Speaker 6: Well, I mean, that's just what a lot of, so
- 14:12Speaker 6: a lot of them, there's a lot of snowboarders from
- 14:15Speaker 6: that area that actually live in the Tampa area.
- 14:18Speaker 5: So that's probably where a lot of the fans are
- 14:20Speaker 5: coming from.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, like any time the Rays play the Yankees,
- 14:23Speaker 1: they sell the joint out because you've got so many
- 14:24Speaker 1: transplanted New Yorkers down there. And the same with the
- 14:26Speaker 1: Marlins down in Miami when they play, when the Yankees
- 14:29Speaker 1: or the Red Sox come to town.
- 14:30Speaker 3: And you've got, I mean, like, you know, Winter Haven,
- 14:32Speaker 3: all of these Clearwater, all these people drive up because
- 14:36Speaker 3: they're Yankees fans.
- 14:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 1: But with that said, you mentioned this in passing a
- 14:40Speaker 1: moment ago, one more game until next year. I had
- 14:44Speaker 1: not thought about this, but almost everybody in baseball says
- 14:46Speaker 1: we're going to have a lockout. Oh, yeah. And there
- 14:48Speaker 1: are some that think it may cost us the entire season.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So this literally, whatever game we watch next, could be
- 14:56Speaker 1: the last game you see until 2028.
- 14:57Speaker 3: No, you know, unfortunately, we had this in 1995, right?
- 14:59Speaker 7: 94, maybe?
- 15:00Speaker 2: 94.
- 15:00Speaker 7: 94.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Was 94, yes.
- 15:07Speaker 1: But 95 was a short season, right? The year the
- 15:10Speaker 1: Braves won it.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I thought 94 was the shortened season that ended up
- 15:14Speaker 3: completely on strike.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think they started late in 95.
- 15:17Speaker 3: They might have. But 94 is when now you're Washington Nationals.
- 15:23Speaker 3: The Montreal Expos seem like the best team in baseball.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Yeah, 144 games.
- 15:26Speaker 8: In 95?
- 15:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:28Speaker 5: Yeah, so what is that, 18 short of a full season?
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I knew it was a late start because of
- 15:32Speaker 1: the length of the strike. But 94 was– we were
- 15:35Speaker 1: past the all-star break, were we not? It was right.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Around July 31st, August 1st, I think, was when it
- 15:41Speaker 6: got cut off. And that's the season all the Expos
- 15:43Speaker 6: fans always talk about.
- 15:45Speaker 3: No, they were good. How contentious does it have to
- 15:47Speaker 3: get now with the money involved in the television contracts
- 15:50Speaker 3: to really have a lockout? Because back then, the television
- 15:53Speaker 3: contracts were so different in Major League Baseball.
- 15:56Speaker 5: That's right.
- 15:57Speaker 3: So, like– But, I mean, we have got fair warning,
- 16:01Speaker 3: and you wonder if this is why you get it
- 16:03Speaker 3: so far out. It's like, got to be able to
- 16:05Speaker 3: work this out one way or another.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you would think we could find some
- 16:11Speaker 1: common ground before just shutting down an entire season.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Do you think we ever have a strike in college football?
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:18Speaker 1: In fact, it may be the most likely because.
- 16:22Speaker 1: A lot of times, strikes are a result of you
- 16:26Speaker 1: form collective bargaining early, and then it's not exactly what
- 16:28Speaker 1: you thought it was going to be, and then you realize, well,
- 16:32Speaker 1: we didn't get what we needed, so now you have
- 16:34Speaker 1: to threaten strike to get that. Until things get.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Smoothed out a lot of times.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Everybody's happy initially.
- 16:40Speaker 3: To me, there is no infrastructure right now, and the
- 16:44Speaker 3: way it probably will begin is a piss-poor infrastructure, and
- 16:48Speaker 3: there's so many things going in so many different directions
- 16:50Speaker 3: that I just wonder what a strike would look like
- 16:53Speaker 3: with no players unions.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Like it feels like, well, I don't know that you
- 16:56Speaker 1: can have one when it was players union, you know?
- 16:57Speaker 1: I mean, you've got to have collective bargaining before you
- 16:59Speaker 1: can have a strike, I guess. I mean, I would
- 17:03Speaker 1: say the one that is oddly probably the furthest away
- 17:06Speaker 1: feels like the NFL, doesn't it?
- 17:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It's like everybody in the NFL is making so much
- 17:10Speaker 1: money right now that everybody's.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Everyone.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Coaches, players, owners.
- 17:15Speaker 1: There's nobody in the NFL that's not making money hand
- 17:17Speaker 1: over fist right now. So you're like, you know, whatever
- 17:19Speaker 1: I dislike. We could probably get past it right now
- 17:22Speaker 1: on both sides. I think ownership and players are both like, okay,
- 17:27Speaker 1: let's find the common ground here because we are printing
- 17:30Speaker 1: money right now. We don't want this to end. So
- 17:32Speaker 1: I say all that to say that potentially the next
- 17:34Speaker 1: game you watch in Major League Baseball could be the
- 17:37Speaker 1: last one you see for more than a year. I
- 17:39Speaker 1: hope that's not the case, but it certainly could be
- 17:42Speaker 1: the case. They will play again tonight. As you said,
- 17:45Speaker 1: starter doesn't really matter, right, for the Rays? It's just
- 17:47Speaker 1: going to be whoever's got an arm that's not falling
- 17:50Speaker 1: off their shoulder is going to pitch for them.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I think that's probably what they're going to look like
- 17:52Speaker 3: right now.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 3: I mean, I'm checking updated numbers at Hard Rock Bet
- 17:58Speaker 3: just to see if they have laid somebody out. But
- 18:00Speaker 3: what I read this morning, it was.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So the Brewers, no matter what, the Brewers are going
- 18:04Speaker 1: to be favored in every game moving forward.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Well, I mean, Miz is on the mound tonight, and
- 18:08Speaker 3: they're minus 150. But again, if you can get, and
- 18:12Speaker 3: I would assume he's going to be back for game
- 18:14Speaker 3: seven if it did go seven, but if you could
- 18:16Speaker 3: get to him tonight, get him out early, scrap along,
- 18:19Speaker 3: pull out a win like you did last night, this
- 18:20Speaker 3: thing goes 3-2 back to Milwaukee, it gets really, really
- 18:24Speaker 3: interesting at that point. I would lean that more than
- 18:26Speaker 3: likely this thing is done tonight.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I mean, that's the feel. It's it.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Again, they did unload the clip last night.
- 18:33Speaker 1: What do they call this, the gentleman sweep?
- 18:36Speaker 2: Is that what they call it?
- 18:37Speaker 1: You hear that more in basketball than you do in baseball,
- 18:40Speaker 1: but in basketball they talk about the gentleman sweep. We'll
- 18:42Speaker 1: let you win a game at home, but we're going
- 18:44Speaker 1: to sweep you out. I don't think the Brewers let
- 18:46Speaker 1: them win a game at home, but you see this
- 18:49Speaker 1: happen a lot. It's on the verge of a sweep.
- 18:51Speaker 2: You're at home.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Like you said, a manager just empties the clip, gives
- 18:55Speaker 1: everything he's got. They get the win, and then the
- 18:58Speaker 1: inevitable happens the next night, which is probably what's about
- 19:00Speaker 1: to happen here. All right, we've got a lot to
- 19:02Speaker 1: get to. NFL, we're going to do NFL Power Rankings.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And something could happen Sunday in the NFL. And we
- 19:09Speaker 1: play a lot of NFL games that has not happened
- 19:12Speaker 1: in 32 years in the NFL. And when I tell
- 19:15Speaker 1: you what it is, you're going to be like, man,
- 19:16Speaker 1: that is crazy that it goes back to 1988. But
- 19:20Speaker 1: something could happen Sunday in the NFL that has not
- 19:22Speaker 1: happened in 32 years. Is there a major coach that's
- 19:26Speaker 1: on the hottest seat? He actually addresses it. We'll talk
- 19:28Speaker 1: about that. Andy Staples with us. Coming up at the
- 19:31Speaker 1: start of the next hour to talk some college football
- 19:33Speaker 1: from on three. We will do all of that on
- 19:37Speaker 1: the show today. It is the next round on Sporting
- 19:40Speaker 1: State presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 19:45Speaker 5: This is coach's chair.
- 19:46Speaker 1: What?
- 19:47Speaker 2: We protect coach's chair the way Hard Rock Bet protects coaches. account.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Hard Rock Bet keeps Coach's info safe. Hard Rock Bet
- 19:53Speaker 5: keeps Coach's money safe.
- 19:55Speaker 2: And we keep Coach safe. Hey, fellas. Coach.
- 19:59Speaker 8: Coach.
- 20:02Speaker 3: How about that protection? Can I grab a wing?
- 20:04Speaker 2: Coach's wings.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I guess I'll sit on the ground.
- 20:06Speaker 2: That's where Coach puts his feet.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Safe and secure betting from the very first tap.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Great to meet you, Coach.
- 20:11Speaker 2: It was Coach's pleasure.
- 20:12Speaker 1: It is the next round of Sports Day presented by
- 20:14Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet. As we return, we are about to
- 20:17Speaker 1: talk about one of the hottest seats in college football,
- 20:20Speaker 1: just how hot. Is it? And the coach is having
- 20:23Speaker 1: to answer the question about his hot seat. First, XXXY
- 20:27Speaker 1: Athletics founded by Jennifer Say, the former national champion gymnast,
- 20:30Speaker 1: former Levi's brand president that walked away from a corporate job.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Rather than say something she didn't believe in, she started
- 20:36Speaker 1: XXXY Athletics instead. Here is the mission in their words.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Empower female athletes to take a stand for fair competition.
- 20:44Speaker 1: They have the T that launched a movement. And you
- 20:47Speaker 1: can get it yourself now.
- 20:49Speaker 3: XXXY.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Hyphen xyathletics.com real athletic apparel not just a slogan on

- 21:19Speaker 1: On Sporting State and Daily Wire, where this show is
- 21:23Speaker 1: consumed each day in the first two hours, I realize
- 21:26Speaker 1: there are many of you that we're just a couple
- 21:28Speaker 1: of rubes from Alabama, and you don't know anything about us,
- 21:30Speaker 1: and we welcome you to learn about us. One thing
- 21:33Speaker 1: you'll learn about Lance is very early as a child,
- 21:36Speaker 1: he adopted the LA teams as his favorite. You were
- 21:38Speaker 1: a Dodgers fan. You're a Lakers fan. You used to
- 21:42Speaker 1: watch a lot of Kings hockey. I used to watch
- 21:45Speaker 1: a ton of Kings hockey. Yeah.
- 21:46Speaker 3: And when we started to do this and we've got
- 21:49Speaker 3: so many things that we talk about and we just
- 21:52Speaker 3: never talked in the NHL. So I kind of just
- 21:54Speaker 3: kind of grew away from it.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 1: And, you know, we we made our bones in Birmingham
- 21:58Speaker 1: and there's not a lot of NHL fans in Birmingham.
- 22:00Speaker 1: So it's kind of hard to talk NHL. If you
- 22:03Speaker 1: have watched our show since we started on Sporting State,
- 22:05Speaker 1: which has been, what, six weeks or so? Is that
- 22:07Speaker 1: how long we've been on Sporting State since the start
- 22:08Speaker 1: of college football, right?
- 22:09Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe eight weeks. A couple months.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Two months.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Over two months. Thank you, Brooks. It might not be
- 22:15Speaker 1: apparent to you that Lance is also a Rams fan.
- 22:18Speaker 1: That may not have jumped out at you.
- 22:19Speaker 3: No, probably not.
- 22:21Speaker 1: He's got all the L.A. teams, and included in that,
- 22:23Speaker 1: the USC Trojans. As a college football fan, you've always
- 22:27Speaker 1: had a soft spot in your heart. You actually lived
- 22:28Speaker 1: in L.A. for a little bit. You've been to USC games.
- 22:31Speaker 1: You've been to games for all these franchises and sports teams.
- 22:35Speaker 1: But as a college fan, you've cheered for the Trojans
- 22:37Speaker 1: over the years, right?
- 22:39Speaker 3: I have and seen some really, really good days. If
- 22:41Speaker 3: you go back to Pete Carroll and saw a really,
- 22:43Speaker 3: really good year with Clay Helton and saw a B
- 22:47Speaker 3: year in Lincoln Riley's first year, but this tenure in
- 22:51Speaker 3: five years now, 41 and 20 coming off. Maybe the
- 22:55Speaker 3: worst offensive performance I have seen in his five years
- 22:58Speaker 3: at USC.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It's the worst offensive performance he's ever had. First time
- 23:01Speaker 1: he's been held to seven points as a head coach.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Coming off a bye.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Coming off a bye. And playing, I know a team
- 23:07Speaker 1: that's got a respectable record, but at best, mid-tier Big
- 23:11Speaker 1: Ten team.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I mean, what I would call Wisconsin right now is Auburn.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Is that fair? I think that's fair.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I mean, they've got a better record. I mean, Wisconsin,
- 23:26Speaker 1: we waste time talking about it because they're probably going
- 23:28Speaker 1: to lose to Iowa Saturday.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I mean, Wisconsin would be a slight favorite over Auburn,
- 23:31Speaker 3: but I'm just saying in the pecking order of the SEC,
- 23:33Speaker 3: it seems like Auburn or maybe Mississippi State.
- 23:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I mean, Wisconsin, they're a mid-tier Big Ten.
- 23:41Speaker 5: They're Florida right now. They're 5-2.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Florida would walk.
- 23:45Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 23:45Speaker 5: He said in the pecking order.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Well, I know.
- 23:47Speaker 3: No, because I was going to say that USC, if
- 23:49Speaker 3: we're just going SEC analogy, USC is kind of Florida.
- 23:52Speaker 3: And if Florida was to go and score seven points
- 23:55Speaker 3: against Mississippi State or Auburn, that would be a terrible look.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah. And they threw for 5,800 yards. Wisconsin did. I
- 24:03Speaker 1: don't know what SEC did. Well, anyway, terrible loss.
- 24:06Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I don't know you live there. I mean, it's a
- 24:11Speaker 1: Lakers town or a Dodgers town?
- 24:13Speaker 3: It is Lakers first.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Lakers first.
- 24:14Speaker 3: It is Dodgers second.
- 24:15Speaker 1: All right.
- 24:16Speaker 3: It is now Rams third.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:18Speaker 7: Okay.
- 24:19Speaker 3: After that, I think you could start to talk about USC.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Is USC more important in that town than the Chargers?
- 24:25Speaker 1: I've never really figured out where the Chargers' place.
- 24:27Speaker 2: In that town is.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Yes, USC is more important than the Chargers.
- 24:29Speaker 1: That answers my question. The Chargers feel like a misfit there.
- 24:32Speaker 3: They are a misfit there. Because at least... Take them
- 24:36Speaker 3: back to San Diego.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah, but at least the Rams in L.A. used to
- 24:40Speaker 1: play in Anaheim, so you probably had some fans that were...
- 24:44Speaker 1: Anaheim Rams fans back in the day.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I went to a game in Anaheim. Yeah,
- 24:47Speaker 3: it was an awesome stadium, wasn't it? It was absolutely awful.
- 24:50Speaker 3: It's a top. But, you know, it was back when
- 24:52Speaker 3: the fans used to wear the watermelons on their head. Right.
- 24:56Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, look.
- 24:56Speaker 1: And they did that, why?
- 24:58Speaker 3: I really never knew.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just a thing.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Do you remember that at all?
- 25:01Speaker 1: I actually do not. Yeah. I thought you were going
- 25:03Speaker 1: to say it was when fans wore bags.
- 25:05Speaker 2: On their heads.
- 25:05Speaker 7: No, no.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I've seen that plenty. They wore watermelons on their heads. But,
- 25:08Speaker 3: I mean, there was a good contingent of Rams fans
- 25:10Speaker 3: back then that, You know, they started the Coliseum, they
- 25:13Speaker 3: went to the Big A, they went to St. Louis,
- 25:15Speaker 3: they came back to the Coliseum, and now they're in SoFi.
- 25:18Speaker 3: So a lot of these fans have followed them around.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but the Chargers fans, it's a weird deal. I
- 25:23Speaker 1: don't know why there are Chargers fans in L.A. other
- 25:26Speaker 1: than the fact you got shut out on Rams season tickets,
- 25:28Speaker 1: so the Chargers tickets are cheaper. I don't know.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Chargers are down there with Mighty Ducks, Angels.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Yeah, which is pretty low.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 1: So I bring that up to say I don't know what, like,
- 25:38Speaker 1: fan outrage in L.A. looks like, like, If Caleb DeBoer
- 25:42Speaker 1: ever ends up on the hot seat, I know what
- 25:43Speaker 1: that's going to look like at Tuscaloosa. If Lane Kiffin's
- 25:45Speaker 1: on the hot seat or Josh Heupel's on the hot seat,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I know what that's going to look like in Baton
- 25:48Speaker 1: Rouge and Knoxville because those are by far and away
- 25:51Speaker 1: the most important things in those cities.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Okay, so I'm going to try to do this on
- 25:54Speaker 3: the fly. Let's just use Alabama as the example.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Okay, you've got 100% of the Alabama fan base. Fans
- 26:02Speaker 3: that would be calling for Kalen DeBoer's head in year
- 26:06Speaker 3: five would be 90% of the fan base of Alabama,
- 26:09Speaker 3: at least, right? Okay, yeah.
- 26:10Speaker 1: If it matches what Lincoln Riley has done, which it's
- 26:13Speaker 1: already exceeded what Lincoln Riley has done because Kalen DeBoer's
- 26:15Speaker 1: been to the playoffs once.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Because I think 90% of the Alabama fan base, and
- 26:19Speaker 3: this is a lot of, and the same goes for
- 26:21Speaker 3: a lot of SEC fan bases, 90% is that passionate.
- 26:25Speaker 3: You have more of a 10% casual that would be like,
- 26:28Speaker 3: I enjoy the games. I'm not going to call for
- 26:29Speaker 3: this guy to be fired. It's not that big of
- 26:31Speaker 3: a deal. I think it completely flips. I think 10%
- 26:34Speaker 3: of the fan base at USC is overly passionate. And
- 26:37Speaker 3: they are the SEC-like, this guy's got to go. And
- 26:41Speaker 3: then the 90% is like, hey, we'll go to a
- 26:43Speaker 3: couple of games a year. We enjoy the tailgate. We
- 26:44Speaker 3: pull for them. But it's just not that big of
- 26:46Speaker 3: a deal.
- 26:46Speaker 1: So to say Lincoln Riley is on the hot seat
- 26:48Speaker 1: doesn't look like a normal college football hot seat is
- 26:50Speaker 1: what you're saying.
- 26:51Speaker 3: It does not. I think Jen Cohen and the board
- 26:55Speaker 3: of trustees, they're going to get a lot of pressure
- 26:56Speaker 3: from Just the perception of that program. Like, are you
- 26:59Speaker 3: really committed to the football program if you were this
- 27:02Speaker 3: stuck in mud right now with Lincoln Riley? Right.
- 27:05Speaker 1: But with that said, one thing Lincoln Riley has not
- 27:08Speaker 1: done is endear himself to the media in L.A. And
- 27:11Speaker 1: here's what happens.
- 27:13Speaker 7: Like.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Most fans don't give a rip about the media. In
- 27:16Speaker 1: this state, in Alabama, when Nick Saban used to rip
- 27:20Speaker 1: into the media, there were a lot of people in
- 27:22Speaker 1: the media that talked about what a bad look it
- 27:24Speaker 1: was and how unprofessional it was and why would he
- 27:27Speaker 1: do that. And you know what the fans said? Good,
- 27:29Speaker 1: the media is getting what they deserve. That's the way
- 27:30Speaker 1: the media is viewed by the fans. And a lot
- 27:32Speaker 1: of our friends that are in the media are too
- 27:36Speaker 1: stuck in the media to actually realize that that's the
- 27:38Speaker 1: way they're viewed by the fans. They don't have a
- 27:39Speaker 1: whole lot of self-awareness. But the fans generally think the
- 27:42Speaker 1: media deserved what Nick Saban gave them, and it was
- 27:44Speaker 1: their guy giving it to them. And Nick Saban actually,
- 27:48Speaker 1: in spite of the fact that he did that, he actually...
- 27:53Speaker 1: fostered a relationship with some members of the media, it
- 27:56Speaker 1: wasn't entirely confrontational.
- 27:58Speaker 3: But now everybody knows, and even before you saw the documentary,
- 28:02Speaker 3: you knew that there was a message that he was
- 28:04Speaker 3: relaying through the media.
- 28:06Speaker 5: That's right.
- 28:06Speaker 3: But we talked about it on the show all the time.
- 28:08Speaker 3: That is not the case when it comes.
- 28:09Speaker 5: To Lincoln Riley.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley has not done that. Lincoln Riley has alienated
- 28:13Speaker 1: the media, even like his former, or USC's former players,
- 28:17Speaker 1: like our buddy Petros Papadakis, who has been openly critical
- 28:20Speaker 1: of him, and the way he handles former players and
- 28:22Speaker 1: handles the media. And here's what happens when you do that.
- 28:25Speaker 1: When it starts to go south on you, the media
- 28:28Speaker 1: realizes for once the fans are in my corner and
- 28:31Speaker 1: I can say anything I want about Lincoln Riley and
- 28:33Speaker 1: I'm not going to get the blowback that I normally get.
- 28:35Speaker 1: So they turn vicious. That's what happens when you don't
- 28:37Speaker 1: foster a good relationship. The coaches that foster good relationships
- 28:41Speaker 1: with the media, if it ever turns bad on them,
- 28:43Speaker 1: the media is like, God, I hate to go in
- 28:45Speaker 1: on him. He's such a nice guy. He's been so
- 28:48Speaker 1: good to me and my family. He invited us to dinner.
- 28:51Speaker 1: We've been to his house to swim in the pool.
- 28:53Speaker 1: He sent my kids a Christmas gift. The media's like, God,
- 28:56Speaker 1: I hate to go into him.
- 28:58Speaker 3: That was Dunaway with Shula.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Mike Shula, he'll admit it.
- 29:01Speaker 3: And probably Fran up until he got lied to.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, with Shula, Dunaway was like, I mean,
- 29:06Speaker 1: it is hard for me to go. I think Mike Shula,
- 29:08Speaker 1: the time has come. It's hard for me to go
- 29:10Speaker 1: in on him because he's been so good to my family.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Look, and I've never been in that opportunity to have
- 29:13Speaker 3: a personal relationship with one of these coaches, but I would,
- 29:17Speaker 3: if I had the opportunity, avoid it at all costs
- 29:19Speaker 3: to be objective.
- 29:20Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 29:20Speaker 1: So it's tough, but it's tough to do that. It
- 29:23Speaker 1: is tough to do that. And it's not even like
- 29:25Speaker 1: when they give you gifts, like when you get to
- 29:27Speaker 1: know them personally, it's hard to go in hard on them.
- 29:31Speaker 1: But here's where Lincoln Riley is. And now the media
- 29:34Speaker 1: has turned on him a little bit. Now he's got
- 29:35Speaker 1: to start at answering the question about his future. Here's
- 29:39Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley. Riley yesterday talking to the media first of
- 29:43Speaker 1: all before we do that Scott if you'll just pop
- 29:44Speaker 1: it up he just looks unhealthy skinny to me I
- 29:48Speaker 1: mean I hate to say that because I'm not around
- 29:51Speaker 1: him a lot but that looks like he looks like
- 29:53Speaker 1: he's got a tapeworm he looks like he's like stressed
- 29:56Speaker 1: skinny you see people that go through a ton of
- 29:58Speaker 1: stress and they lose a lot of weight I hate
- 30:01Speaker 1: that for Lincoln. I hope that's not the case. But
- 30:03Speaker 1: here he is answering the question yesterday.
- 30:05Speaker 9: There's been a lot of chatter, too.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Just even connecting you to other.
- 30:09Speaker 8: Jobs that have come open already, given in addition to
- 30:13Speaker 8: kind of your speculation at USC. I guess I just wonder,
- 30:15Speaker 8: a lot of that sort of stems from your fit
- 30:18Speaker 8: here and people kind of talking about that. I guess
- 30:21Speaker 8: I wonder, year five, how do you feel you fit here?
- 30:25Speaker 2: Oh, I love it here.
- 30:26Speaker 10: I mean, like I told you guys yesterday, A lot
- 30:28Speaker 10: of times, there's not many people in college football history
- 30:31Speaker 10: that gave up what I gave up to come here.
- 30:35Speaker 10: I don't care if it's 15 years down the line.
- 30:37Speaker 10: That never should be taken lightly. It's certainly not taken
- 30:41Speaker 10: lightly by me. I came here because this is where
- 30:44Speaker 10: I wanted to be. I came here because I believe
- 30:46Speaker 10: in this place, and none of that has changed whatsoever.
- 30:49Speaker 3: He will not be there next year. I'm just telling you.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Wow. You're calling it right now.
- 30:53Speaker 3: I was reading an article this morning on potential replacements
- 30:55Speaker 3: for Dave Aranda, and we kind of alluded to this.
- 30:58Speaker 3: He's going to be in the mix there. He's a
- 31:00Speaker 3: Texas guy. He graduated from Texas Tech. And I think
- 31:03Speaker 3: that's where it gets really fascinating. Again, I don't know
- 31:05Speaker 3: the dynamic between Joey McGuire, the head coach at Texas Tech,
- 31:10Speaker 3: and Cody Campbell, the billionaire backer at Texas Tech. But
- 31:14Speaker 3: if they lose this weekend to Arizona, which I think
- 31:16Speaker 3: they're going to lose to Arizona this weekend, they take
- 31:18Speaker 3: on that second loss, they're done. And I think at
- 31:21Speaker 3: that point, if there's not a tight relationship, Cody Campbell
- 31:24Speaker 3: and all the powers that be start thinking about, well,
- 31:26Speaker 3: who's the next fit? Lincoln Riley, this has not been
- 31:29Speaker 3: a good fit at SC. He's 41-20. You go back
- 31:32Speaker 3: to his Oklahoma days, he was 37-7. That was a
- 31:35Speaker 3: good fit. Yeah, it was a really good fit. He
- 31:37Speaker 3: is more of a Big 12 guy. It makes sense
- 31:39Speaker 3: whether it's Baylor or Texas Tech. I will be– I mean,
- 31:43Speaker 3: they could pull off the upset this win. They could
- 31:45Speaker 3: end up winning out, go to the college football playoff,
- 31:47Speaker 3: win a game, and then maybe everything's fine. But I
- 31:50Speaker 3: don't see it. I think next year he's out, and
- 31:53Speaker 3: I am more fascinated. I think it's almost predictable where
- 31:55Speaker 3: he goes. He goes back to Texas. goes back to
- 31:58Speaker 3: the Big 12, I really wonder who the next guy
- 32:00Speaker 3: at SC will be.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I wonder if, and I wanted to get to that,
- 32:03Speaker 1: but I wonder if Baylor would look at that and say,
- 32:07Speaker 1: it didn't work there, but we think it would work here.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I think the Baylor fan base would be thrilled to
- 32:12Speaker 1: have him. I know some Baylor fans, not a ton.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I guess I could ask Mosley. We could text Mosley.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I think Mosley would take him. Mosley will have some
- 32:19Speaker 3: kind of sarcastic reaction.
- 32:21Speaker 1: He would have that about Nick Saban.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Always does, which we love about our man Mosley. I
- 32:27Speaker 3: was excited when Lincoln Riley took this job. I just thought,
- 32:31Speaker 3: you know, maybe a little bit bigger of a job.
- 32:33Speaker 3: I thought the offense was going to be really dynamic,
- 32:35Speaker 3: and it was year one. But Maiava, to play like
- 32:40Speaker 3: he did, a veteran quarterback coming off a bye, it's
- 32:42Speaker 3: just something is completely off right now with this program.
- 32:46Speaker 1: You heard what he said right there. Later in that
- 32:48Speaker 1: press conference, he said, and this is a quote from him,
- 32:51Speaker 1: I've had plenty of opportunities to leave here.
- 32:54Speaker 3: I did see that. It's one thing that jumped out.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that jumped way out of me. Plenty of opportunities
- 32:59Speaker 1: to leave USC.
- 33:00Speaker 3: And to me, that's just something you don't say. I agree.
- 33:03Speaker 1: But I mean, if you're going to say it, it's
- 33:05Speaker 1: naturally going to make people like you and I question like,
- 33:08Speaker 1: who tried to hire Lincoln Riley away from USC?
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, maybe after the first couple of years,
- 33:13Speaker 3: like maybe people internally heard that he wasn't really happy.
- 33:16Speaker 3: It wasn't a great fit. And You know, he had
- 33:18Speaker 3: 20 wins in his first two years. So it's not
- 33:21Speaker 3: like the guy forgot how to coach. It's my fear
- 33:24Speaker 3: for Lincoln Riley, really. And I think this goes hand
- 33:26Speaker 3: in hand with the USC program. I think you got
- 33:28Speaker 3: to be really delicate with it. I think he handles
- 33:30Speaker 3: this more like the NFL and he lets the the
- 33:33Speaker 3: inmates run the asylum, so to speak. I don't think
- 33:36Speaker 3: there's a lot of structure. I don't think that the
- 33:39Speaker 3: culture there is very good. I don't know how much
- 33:42Speaker 3: they care about winning. It's just, it's, it's festered into
- 33:45Speaker 3: this massive problem.
- 33:46Speaker 1: The weird thing though, is Pete Carroll ran it.
- 33:49Speaker 3: He did.
- 33:49Speaker 1: To a certain extent, the way you're describing. And it
- 33:52Speaker 1: was extremely successful. He ran it like a pro franchise
- 33:54Speaker 1: in L.A. because they didn't have a pro football franchise
- 33:57Speaker 1: at the time. Southern Cal became the pro football franchise
- 34:01Speaker 1: in L.A.
- 34:01Speaker 3: But they ran it with an edge. Like there was
- 34:04Speaker 3: something about those USC teams. And a lot of people
- 34:06Speaker 3: forget Pete Carroll. It was defense first. He's a defensive guy.
- 34:09Speaker 3: They were dominant defenses. Everybody remembers the Reggie Bushes and
- 34:12Speaker 3: the Matt Leinerts and all that kind of stuff. But
- 34:14Speaker 3: it really was defense first. But they had an edge.
- 34:16Speaker 3: When they came out, they wanted to intimidate. It was
- 34:19Speaker 3: Alabama under Nick Saban. You remember how dominant those teams were,
- 34:23Speaker 3: and they had some head-scratching losses, but it's just a
- 34:26Speaker 3: completely different attitude. They're not physical anymore. They don't believe
- 34:30Speaker 3: they're going to win. I don't know if they care
- 34:32Speaker 3: if they win.
- 34:34Speaker 1: That's sad, if that's the case. By the way, you
- 34:36Speaker 1: mentioned Cody Campbell and Texas Tech. If they lose this weekend,
- 34:39Speaker 1: what will Campbell's reaction be? Because they lost one game
- 34:43Speaker 1: already this year, and Campbell basically sent out a tweet
- 34:45Speaker 1: saying this is unacceptable. We've got to be better than this.
- 34:49Speaker 1: In response to that tweet, we don't have the series.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Scott doesn't have the series of tweets because I forgot
- 34:53Speaker 1: to tell him this. But in response to that tweet,
- 34:56Speaker 1: there was a radio producer in Lubbock. I think it's
- 35:00Speaker 1: Eagle 98.7, their sports talk station, who basically quote tweeted
- 35:07Speaker 1: Cody Campbell saying, And essentially said, please stop talking. It's
- 35:12Speaker 1: not helping.
- 35:14Speaker 2: All right.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I looked at the guy. He's the producer. Just a producer.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Not just a producer. I've been a producer, so I
- 35:20Speaker 1: shouldn't say it that way. A producer for a sports
- 35:22Speaker 1: radio station in Lubbock, Texas. He had like 179 Twitter followers. Like,
- 35:26Speaker 1: nobody saw this. Nobody saw it. He had 179 Twitter followers.
- 35:31Speaker 1: And Campbell responds to it and says... Instead of stop talking,
- 35:37Speaker 1: how about we have Texas Tech players stop talking to
- 35:40Speaker 1: Eagle 98.1 and then tagged the sports information director, the
- 35:45Speaker 1: media relations director, in the tweet. Said, how about let's
- 35:48Speaker 1: discuss this and tag the sports information director. I mean,
- 35:52Speaker 1: that's Cody Campbell. That's a billionaire responding to a radio
- 35:55Speaker 1: producer saying, Who says, just please quit talking. It's not helping.
- 35:59Speaker 1: And saying, how about we quit putting Texas Tech players
- 36:01Speaker 1: on your station?
- 36:01Speaker 3: I bet they got the Eagles' attention, right?
- 36:04Speaker 1: You think that producer was nervous to take the phone call?
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:08Speaker 1: But, I mean, you're a billionaire donor to a major
- 36:13Speaker 1: college football program.
- 36:15Speaker 3: He's basically the owner of Texas Tech.
- 36:18Speaker 1: He's a team owner, essentially, in the NFL. And you're
- 36:21Speaker 1: going to go back and forth with a radio producer, man?
- 36:24Speaker 9: I mean.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I mean, that's almost... That's after one loss. It's almost
- 36:27Speaker 3: as bad as Pat McAfee going back and forth with
- 36:29Speaker 3: the university.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I mean, that's after one loss. Imagine if they do
- 36:32Speaker 1: lose to Arizona over the weekend, what his reaction is
- 36:35Speaker 1: going to be.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Oh, I.
- 36:37Speaker 3: You know, maybe we can do that at some point
- 36:39Speaker 3: this week. Go through, like, top five upsets that really
- 36:42Speaker 3: will spin things out of control. For this weekend?
- 36:44Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 36:45Speaker 3: All right, we'll do it tomorrow. Yeah, maybe we need
- 36:46Speaker 3: to start doing that as a weekly segment. Well, we
- 36:48Speaker 3: did it last week, and we hit a few, actually.
- 36:49Speaker 3: I mean, that's where we are right now.
- 36:51Speaker 1: I know. I mean, because it seems like every week
- 36:55Speaker 1: in college football, we get that week in college football.
- 36:57Speaker 1: All right, so Lincoln Riley on the hot seat, and USC,
- 37:03Speaker 1: I think, is a– well, let's hear from Ryan Day.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Cut seven and eight, if you will, Tyler. Because I
- 37:07Speaker 1: think USC's a live dog here. To use the gambling parlance.
- 37:12Speaker 3: I kind of think that as well.
- 37:15Speaker 1: And you don't like it that me and Dunaway both
- 37:16Speaker 1: had them in ups and downs.
- 37:17Speaker 3: I don't like that, but it does seem, I don't know,
- 37:20Speaker 3: the thing that throws me off is how bad they
- 37:22Speaker 3: were last week. Again, I said this yesterday, if they
- 37:25Speaker 3: would have lost 24-21, it was just one of those
- 37:27Speaker 3: kind of losses, but to seem like they completely tapped out.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I don't know. That's that's head scratching.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Here's Ryan Day. Now, again, keep in mind, Julian
- 37:37Speaker 1: saying is out for maybe the rest of the regular season,
- 37:39Speaker 1: at least may not get him back to the playoffs.
- 37:41Speaker 3: So and, you know, they're going to slow play that
- 37:43Speaker 3: just real quick to that point, because if they lose
- 37:46Speaker 3: Saturday night in the Coliseum, they're on the outside looking in.
- 37:51Speaker 3: But I think most. At that point, I think most
- 37:55Speaker 3: voters or most people on the committee would say, well,
- 37:57Speaker 3: if Sayan's coming back, we give him a pass.
- 37:59Speaker 1: They're going to get a lot of rope here because
- 38:00Speaker 1: of the Julian Sayan injury.
- 38:01Speaker 2: I would agree with you.
- 38:02Speaker 1: But there are two backup quarterbacks now, and here's how
- 38:04Speaker 1: Ryan Day discussed those backups yesterday.
- 38:08Speaker 3: I thought there was progress made last week.
- 38:09Speaker 7: I thought the look in both quarterbacks' eyes was good,
- 38:13Speaker 7: and I think they're excited about playing in this game,
- 38:16Speaker 7: and I think their approach has been right. But they
- 38:18Speaker 7: also came to play football, and I think we all
- 38:21Speaker 7: have to– remind ourselves that the guys are in the
- 38:24Speaker 7: program to get on the field and play. Nobody foresaw
- 38:28Speaker 7: this happening, but at the same time, you have to
- 38:32Speaker 7: have a plan for it. That's why these guys are
- 38:34Speaker 7: on the roster. This is an unbelievable opportunity for them
- 38:37Speaker 7: and an opportunity for our team to rally together, to
- 38:39Speaker 7: go on the road. That's got to be the approach
- 38:42Speaker 7: is to win this game. Nothing else. Not looking ahead
- 38:45Speaker 7: to what's down the road. It's going to take everything
- 38:48Speaker 7: we have. And you see it all across college football
- 38:50Speaker 7: right now that it's hard to win. It's hard to
- 38:52Speaker 7: win on the road. And this will be no different.
- 38:54Speaker 7: So we've got to be at our best.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Really important. It's not often you wear a sweater with
- 38:58Speaker 1: a nut on it.
- 39:00Speaker 3: It's not often you wear anything with a sweater with
- 39:03Speaker 3: a nut on it. That's what he's wearing. A Buckeye
- 39:05Speaker 3: is a nut.
- 39:06Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:06Speaker 3: That's tacky ass sweater. You think that's tacky?
- 39:08Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it's an understated logo.
- 39:10Speaker 3: But I just don't know anybody that would be like,
- 39:12Speaker 3: Oh man, that's, I mean, I think most people that
- 39:14Speaker 3: walk by him, wherever they're walking by him. I mean,
- 39:17Speaker 3: you know who he is. If you're a football fan,
- 39:19Speaker 3: but if you're somebody who's just wearing that sweater, like
- 39:20Speaker 3: if you saw somebody right now, uh, you're walking into
- 39:24Speaker 3: target and they've got that sweater on, would you have
- 39:27Speaker 3: known that was a Buckeye? I would have had no idea.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 39:29Speaker 1: If I just see somebody out in the wild, I'm like,
- 39:31Speaker 1: what is on his sweater?
- 39:32Speaker 3: I would have thought it's a coconut.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I would agree with you. I think it's a coconut,
- 39:37Speaker 1: which is a weird thing to put on a sweater
- 39:38Speaker 1: because coconuts are associated with warm weather.
- 39:40Speaker 3: I would almost think it is like a family-owned business.
- 39:44Speaker 6: It looks like a little Halloween-sized thing.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Piece of chocolate.
- 39:50Speaker 1: I agree with you.
- 39:51Speaker 5: It's a little milk. Milk.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:52Speaker 6: I mean, I guess a Buckeye is a dessert that
- 39:55Speaker 6: you can make. But I guess one more from Ryan Day.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Cut a Tyler where Ryan Day gets asked about how
- 40:03Speaker 1: the offense is going to look. Now, here's where I
- 40:05Speaker 1: think USC's got a shot here. Because Ryan Day is
- 40:09Speaker 1: about to talk, he's about to be asked, do you
- 40:11Speaker 1: scale the offense back?
- 40:12Speaker 3: And that's where now all of a sudden, if you're.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Scaling things back and you're trying to go simple with
- 40:17Speaker 1: your offense and you're on the road and you're playing
- 40:19Speaker 1: a desperate team and a desperate head coach, that's where
- 40:22Speaker 1: it could start to go south for you. And here's
- 40:23Speaker 1: Ryan Day on that.
- 40:25Speaker 9: How much scale back is the right word, but what
- 40:28Speaker 9: can they do?
- 40:29Speaker 5: How do you help them?
- 40:30Speaker 4: And then how much does what they do here versus doing.
- 40:33Speaker 5: It on the road at USC kind of change?
- 40:35Speaker 2: How do you balance things?
- 40:36Speaker 7: Well, Most of what they're doing will be for the
- 40:39Speaker 7: first time. So that doesn't exactly allow you to sleep
- 40:42Speaker 7: great at night. But I know what we see in
- 40:44Speaker 7: practice and our players and coaches know what they see
- 40:48Speaker 7: in practice.
- 40:48Speaker 3: So there's confidence.
- 40:51Speaker 7: There is. I mean, you can see there was an
- 40:52Speaker 7: energy at practice last week. And these guys are making plays.
- 40:57Speaker 7: They're learning from plays. And how quickly can you learn
- 40:59Speaker 7: from them and grow? And so there's a balance there.
- 41:03Speaker 7: We can't just crawl up into a ball and just
- 41:05Speaker 7: hope to win the game 6-3. If we have to
- 41:07Speaker 7: win a game, we will, but we also can't be reckless.
- 41:11Speaker 7: So I think that's the balance we try to find
- 41:13Speaker 7: based on what we have and what's in the game
- 41:16Speaker 7: plan and who we're playing.
- 41:16Speaker 1: 6.30 on NBC Saturday night because that's where USC plays
- 41:20Speaker 1: all their games.
- 41:20Speaker 3: All of them.
- 41:22Speaker 2: 6.30 on NBC.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I think they've got five straight, if I remember correctly,
- 41:25Speaker 1: on NBC.
- 41:25Speaker 3: That sounds right.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yeah, five straight USC games, 6.30 on NBC. Part of
- 41:30Speaker 1: what could be an upset night slate. We'll discuss that
- 41:33Speaker 1: tomorrow when we try to predict those upsets. All right,
- 41:35Speaker 1: when we come back on the next round, this is
- 41:38Speaker 1: not the only Lincoln Riley, the only guy that may
- 41:41Speaker 1: not be in his current place next year, Jordan Rodgers.
- 41:43Speaker 1: says Arch Manning shouldn't be in his current place next year.
- 41:47Speaker 1: That is right. Former quarterback Jordan Rodgers, now with ESPN,
- 41:50Speaker 1: says Arch Manning should consider transferring. He gave three schools
- 41:53Speaker 1: that would fit him. I'll tell you why he said
- 41:55Speaker 1: those schools and the schools that he said, which might
- 41:58Speaker 1: interest you. That is next on the next round on
- 42:00Speaker 1: Sporting State, presented by Hard Rock Met.
- 42:03Speaker 2: This year, the biggest sportsbook party is getting even bigger.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Hey, there's Jay Boyd.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Whether you just getting here or you've been here, you're
- 42:11Speaker 3: not leaving here empty-handed.
- 42:13Speaker 9: Hey, Jay.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Jimmy Johnson.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Kevin, they know me?
- 42:17Speaker 8: Of course.
- 42:18Speaker 9: In this party, everybody's somebody.
- 42:20Speaker 5: This season, Hard Rock Bet has something for everyone.

- 42:28Speaker 2: Forget him.
- 42:29Speaker 3: That's Jay Boy.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Hey, Jay Boy.
- 42:31Speaker 3: My name's Jay Boy. I got that.
- 42:32Speaker 2: I got that.
- 42:33Speaker 1: It is the next round on Sports Day presented by
- 42:35Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet.
- 42:37Speaker 3: All right, Tom.

- 44:10Speaker 1: He does that, I think, every Wednesday. on Get Up.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I like Jordan. I think Jordan does a really good job.
- 44:15Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, and he's, man, he is a, I've gotten
- 44:17Speaker 3: to spend a little bit of time with him. He
- 44:18Speaker 3: is just a super, super nice guy. Is he really? Yeah,
- 44:21Speaker 3: I mean, I remember. Like, very, very genuine.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah, we've not had him on the show a lot,
- 44:26Speaker 1: but I do remember the day he came by. Boy,
- 44:29Speaker 1: all these SEC media days run together, but I want
- 44:31Speaker 1: to say it was the one in Nashville, and we
- 44:34Speaker 1: were in our own room there in Nashville and on
- 44:37Speaker 1: our set, and he sits down with us, And the
- 44:40Speaker 1: ESPN PR person starts to try to wrap us. Do
- 44:43Speaker 1: you remember this?
- 44:43Speaker 3: And he's like, no, no, no, no.
- 44:44Speaker 5: I'm good.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I'm having fun here. And he shuts down the PR person.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I was like, that's my kind of guy right there.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Yeah, we I went out with him and Peter. We
- 44:52Speaker 3: went to a dinner, I don't know, a couple of
- 44:55Speaker 3: years ago. And then I met him and Clay at
- 45:00Speaker 3: a bar in Atlanta. But he's just yeah, he's a really,
- 45:03Speaker 3: really genuine guy. And it's so funny. Because all these
- 45:06Speaker 3: women come up to him, they have no idea, any
- 45:08Speaker 3: affiliation with ESPN or the SEC Network.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 45:11Speaker 3: It's all about The Bachelorette. And they're like, oh, my gosh.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:15Speaker 3: There's Jordan. And they want to take pictures. And he's
- 45:17Speaker 3: so nice. And, you know, this is not like what
- 45:20Speaker 3: you would think, like South Beach, you know, hot women.
- 45:22Speaker 3: These are, you know, some of the more banged up.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Right, right, right. They enjoy the show.
- 45:27Speaker 3: But he is all about, you know, being very, very
- 45:30Speaker 3: accessible and just– Again, I haven't spent much time with him.
- 45:34Speaker 3: The small amount of time I've spent, he is a
- 45:36Speaker 3: super nice guy.
- 45:36Speaker 1: What are you laughing at, Tyler?
- 45:38Speaker 4: Backroom's just laughing at the description. He's not pulling any
- 45:42Speaker 4: South Beach supermodels. He's getting the banged-up one. I'm sure
- 45:46Speaker 4: he could.
- 45:47Speaker 3: He is one of those guys deeply in love with
- 45:50Speaker 3: his wife, but I'm just saying he's accessible to anybody.
- 45:55Speaker 3: The South Beach comes up, he'll take the picture, but
- 45:57Speaker 3: I'm saying there's some banged-up soccer moms, and he takes
- 46:00Speaker 3: the picture as well.
- 46:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 46:01Speaker 3: He's just a nice guy.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Lance says all that to say he's a nice guy.
- 46:05Speaker 3: Which he is.
- 46:06Speaker 1: The times I've been around Jordan Rodgers.
- 46:07Speaker 3: I love how they giggle back there on some of
- 46:09Speaker 3: my comments.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I like when I see Tyler laughing. I know we've
- 46:11Speaker 1: said something that is said off the back of the room.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Same game parlay. There you go. Thank you. Jordan Rodgers
- 46:19Speaker 1: is going to get up today and said to Mike
- 46:23Speaker 1: Greenberg that Arch Manning should consider transferring next year. Not
- 46:27Speaker 1: because it's toxic in Texas. Not because of it. He
- 46:31Speaker 1: says it's just not a good fit for his skill set,
- 46:33Speaker 1: that offensive style. And this happens. That offensive style is
- 46:37Speaker 1: not a good match for his skill set. Now, if
- 46:41Speaker 1: you want to go watch the segment, you can find
- 46:43Speaker 1: it on ESPN.com, you can find it elsewhere on social media.
- 46:47Speaker 1: He breaks down why it doesn't fit. I'm not going
- 46:49Speaker 1: to try to do the X's and O's. So let
- 46:50Speaker 1: me ask you this. Does he think it's a better
- 46:53Speaker 1: fit with Lane Kiffin? So, Jordan Rodgers says.
- 46:57Speaker 3: I have not heard this, and I'm not being serious
- 46:59Speaker 3: because I look at Sam Leavitt. Sam Leavitt, to me,
- 47:02Speaker 3: has the similar skill set of Arch Manning.
- 47:09Speaker 1: He says there are three schools. Mike Greenberg is like,
- 47:12Speaker 1: so you're saying he should transfer? He says, I'm saying
- 47:14Speaker 1: he should consider transferring to an offense that is more RPO-based,
- 47:18Speaker 1: still allows him to throw the deep ball because that's
- 47:20Speaker 1: where he succeeds. He's basically saying go to an offense
- 47:23Speaker 1: that fits him better. You can because Mike Greenberg says, well,
- 47:28Speaker 1: give me an example of those offenses. He names three schools.
- 47:31Speaker 5: LSU.
- 47:31Speaker 1: LSU is number one.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Louisville.
- 47:33Speaker 1: He did not say Louisville. I'm telling you, two of
- 47:39Speaker 1: these would be extremely interesting. Actually, all three of them.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Ohio State.
- 47:43Speaker 9: Nope.
- 47:44Speaker 1: He didn't say that.
- 47:45Speaker 2: SMU? No.
- 47:46Speaker 7: Okay.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Okay.
- 47:47Speaker 3: I'm just looking at quarterbacks that kind of are in
- 47:49Speaker 3: that realm right now. LSU.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Now, what is Sam Levitt's eligibility situation?
- 47:54Speaker 3: I think he's done. He's a fifth-year guy.
- 47:56Speaker 2: This is it. Okay.
- 47:57Speaker 1: This is it for Sam Levitt. The other one, I
- 48:00Speaker 1: know this guy. Well, I know these next two are done.
- 48:02Speaker 1: And that's basically what Jordan Rodgers said, is there's a
- 48:05Speaker 1: path to the field.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Well, you know what? He could have gone Jason Beck
- 48:07Speaker 3: at Michigan if he's going to be there.
- 48:09Speaker 1: That would be interesting, going to Michigan.
- 48:12Speaker 9: Ole Miss....
- 48:14Speaker 1: He said what John David Baker is running right now, JDB,
- 48:19Speaker 1: and Joe Judge is a good fit for him. Trinidad
- 48:22Speaker 1: Chambliss had two fight in court just to get this.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Year, so he's done. I think he's been very pedestrian,
- 48:27Speaker 3: probably not as bad as we've summed him up. I
- 48:30Speaker 3: just think really the fit, for whatever reason, hasn't been good.
- 48:34Speaker 3: But I think Ole Miss fans would be really excited
- 48:36Speaker 3: about Arch coming there.
- 48:37Speaker 1: And then the third one was Miami. He said Shannon
- 48:41Speaker 1: Dawson's offense is an excellent defense. fit for Arch Manning.
- 48:46Speaker 1: And they are obviously always active in the transfer portal
- 48:49Speaker 1: for the quarterback spot. And Mintz is going to be gone.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I think LSU makes the most sense of those.
- 48:55Speaker 3: You know, if you want to play for Kiffin, I don't.
- 48:58Speaker 3: I don't know what that whole family, I don't know
- 48:59Speaker 3: what the dynamic is.
- 49:00Speaker 1: The Manning family with Kiffin, I mean, he spent so
- 49:01Speaker 1: much time at Ole Miss, you know he's got an
- 49:03Speaker 1: association with the Manning family. I don't know if it's
- 49:05Speaker 1: positive or negative.
- 49:06Speaker 2: I really don't.
- 49:06Speaker 3: And if it was ever negative, it probably became more
- 49:09Speaker 3: negative on the departure.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Or if it was positive, it might have lost all
- 49:13Speaker 1: of its positivity based on the departure. um so i
- 49:17Speaker 1: i mean i don't know if he'll play it it's
- 49:19Speaker 1: becoming increasingly well i should say increasingly clearer or more
- 49:25Speaker 1: likely or whatever but the likelihood is growing let me
- 49:28Speaker 1: just say that the likelihood is growing that wherever he
- 49:32Speaker 1: plays next year it's not going to be the nfl
- 49:34Speaker 1: i think a lot of people feel like arch manning's
- 49:36Speaker 1: got another college year in front of him.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Yeah Just the way he's played this year. I think
- 49:40Speaker 3: that would be the wise thing. Now, would I be shocked?
- 49:42Speaker 3: I mean, J.P. Lossman got selected in the first round.
- 49:44Speaker 3: Christian Ponder got selected in the first round. I mean,
- 49:48Speaker 3: with his experience and maybe the upside and just how
- 49:51Speaker 3: physical he is, I think there might be a general
- 49:53Speaker 3: manager that would take a shot on him in the
- 49:55Speaker 3: late first round. But I think it would be wiser
- 49:58Speaker 3: for him to come back.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Yeah, don't you think a lot of fan bases would
- 50:01Speaker 1: get super excited, though, just to see that name coming?
- 50:03Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure.
- 50:04Speaker 1: They would look past it. what has appeared to be.
- 50:08Speaker 3: Any shortcomings.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Any shortcomings. It's subpar play, however you want to put it,
- 50:11Speaker 1: and would get excited about that name. Boy, LSU, I mean,
- 50:15Speaker 1: that would be so perfect for Lane Kiffin. But there again,
- 50:17Speaker 1: I just don't know where the Manning family is with
- 50:19Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin. I mean, you've got to think the way
- 50:22Speaker 1: he left Ole Miss probably rubbed Archie and Eli wrong.
- 50:26Speaker 5: And Cooper.
- 50:26Speaker 1: I mean, Cooper's an Ole Miss guy. Let's don't forget that.
- 50:28Speaker 1: I mean, he went to Ole Miss. So, I mean,
- 50:30Speaker 1: that's got to rub them wrong, you would think. And
- 50:33Speaker 1: Arch could have gone to Ole Miss out of college
- 50:35Speaker 1: in a heartbeat and did not do that. Or out
- 50:37Speaker 1: of high school. If it rubbed them wrong.
- 50:39Speaker 3: I mean, this next step for Arch is so pivotal
- 50:42Speaker 3: as far as getting back on the good side of
- 50:46Speaker 3: all of these scouts and general managers and showing that
- 50:48Speaker 3: he could be a franchise quarterback in the NFL. So
- 50:50Speaker 3: wherever he goes next, he's got to be super productive.
- 50:53Speaker 3: So even if there is some kind of, I don't know,
- 50:56Speaker 3: strain between the relationship of Kiffin and the Mannings... if
- 51:00Speaker 3: you believe that Kiffin could actually bring out the best
- 51:03Speaker 3: in Arch Manning, you maybe can get over some of
- 51:06Speaker 3: that stuff.
- 51:06Speaker 1: You're good at setting odds. Odds on Arch Manning being
- 51:10Speaker 1: the Texas quarterback next year.
- 51:12Speaker 3: I would put it right there with Lincoln Riley.
- 51:14Speaker 1: You said Lincoln Riley's gone.
- 51:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I would say yes, no. I would
- 51:19Speaker 3: say no, minus 150.
- 51:21Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 51:25Speaker 3: So in football terms, probably a 4.5-point underdog. The no
- 51:28Speaker 3: is a 4.5-point underdog or favorite? So depending on how
- 51:32Speaker 3: you look at it, 4.5-point favorite, the fact that he's gone.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Both of those guys are gone.
- 51:37Speaker 1: I put you in a tough spot there.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Minus 150 that both of those guys, if you ask
- 51:44Speaker 3: both back, both gone, one back, one gone, I would
- 51:48Speaker 3: go both gone.
- 51:50Speaker 1: That would be the betting favorite is that both would
- 51:52Speaker 1: be gone.
- 51:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley from USC and Arch Manning from Texas. By
- 51:55Speaker 1: the way, before we get to Andy Staples in a moment,
- 51:58Speaker 1: Maryland is doing one of the saddest things I've ever seen.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Did you see what Maryland football is doing?
- 52:02Speaker 2: I did.
- 52:02Speaker 3: And you know I would have no shot at this.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, you've left better products than Maryland football. I
- 52:08Speaker 1: have to.
- 52:08Speaker 3: I left a Super Bowl in the third quarter.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Maryland football will be giving away free tuition to a
- 52:14Speaker 1: lucky student that is still in the stands of the
- 52:17Speaker 1: fourth quarter. Who do they play Saturday?
- 52:19Speaker 3: Quit paying attention to Maryland.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Maryland has got Illinois.
- 52:23Speaker 3: They're a home dog to a bad Illinois team.
- 52:26Speaker 2: 11 a.m.
- 52:27Speaker 1: FS1. So they will pick a student still in the
- 52:30Speaker 1: student section in the fourth quarter and give free tuition.
- 52:35Speaker 1: If my child went to Maryland, I would mandate that
- 52:38Speaker 1: they be there.
- 52:39Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I would too. I almost think this might
- 52:41Speaker 3: be fixed. This might be just a promotional thing where
- 52:45Speaker 3: they've got some kid that's on their payroll and they're
- 52:47Speaker 3: going to act like, you know, Thomas Jones, he was
- 52:51Speaker 3: sitting there. We randomly picked him.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I mean, I would, if my child went to Maryland,
- 52:56Speaker 1: my daughter is a senior. She's about to graduate at
- 52:58Speaker 1: South Alabama. If South Alabama did this Saturday, they're playing
- 53:01Speaker 1: La Tech, I think. Well, she's about to graduate, so
- 53:04Speaker 1: I don't guess I would do it to her Saturday.
- 53:05Speaker 1: But a year ago, I would have said, I don't
- 53:08Speaker 1: tell you you have to do a lot of things.
- 53:10Speaker 1: I let you be an adult now in college. You absolutely,
- 53:13Speaker 1: positively have to be there in the fourth quarter, and
- 53:15Speaker 1: I'm going to need proof of life that you're there.
- 53:17Speaker 1: I need a selfie with a scoreboard. Midway through the
- 53:19Speaker 1: fourth quarter to let me know. And if my child
- 53:23Speaker 1: were at Maryland, it would be a mandate. You have
- 53:26Speaker 1: to go. Be at the fourth quarter of this game.
- 53:29Speaker 4: They could just send you an AI photo now.
- 53:31Speaker 2: They could. You're right, Tyler.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Nothing is guaranteed.
- 53:34Speaker 3: I mean, can you– I guess you can do that.
- 53:36Speaker 3: I always heard– I don't want to give the destination
- 53:39Speaker 3: away because I've never been there, but I heard there's
- 53:41Speaker 3: a lot of guys that go fishing there.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Oh, I've heard that story. They do the fake in
- 53:45Speaker 1: front of the fish.
- 53:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you can go take the pictures with the fish
- 53:48Speaker 3: and your whole group.
- 53:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:49Speaker 3: You know, that's the first thing you do is you
- 53:51Speaker 3: run there, you do that, and then you go do
- 53:52Speaker 3: whatever you're going to do.
- 53:53Speaker 1: You go fish for other things after that.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Yeah, but the AI. So, like, if I said I
- 53:59Speaker 3: was going to be in Chicago this weekend and I
- 54:01Speaker 3: was going to be with a friend from Boston and
- 54:04Speaker 3: I needed proof of evidence, do you think I could
- 54:06Speaker 3: compose an AI picture of me and my friend from Boston?
- 54:09Speaker 1: Yeah, except you're going to have three ears and eight fingers.
- 54:12Speaker 1: That's going to be the only problem.
- 54:13Speaker 3: That's wild.
- 54:14Speaker 1: I know, and we're not going to catch it.
- 54:16Speaker 4: There's better models now.
- 54:18Speaker 5: You just got to.
- 54:18Speaker 4: Pay more for them.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Well, there you go.
- 54:21Speaker 7: Okay.
- 54:21Speaker 1: Like everything else.
- 54:22Speaker 3: I don't need it, but I was just wondering.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Andy Staples on three joins us next. We'll talk some
- 54:26Speaker 1: more college football with him on the next round.
- 54:31Speaker 8: You're sitting in my seat.
- 54:33Speaker 3: Hey, Jimmy, we gave you a seat to my new buddy.
- 54:35Speaker 9: What's your name?
- 54:36Speaker 1: Bill.
- 54:37Speaker 3: My new buddy, Bill.
- 54:38Speaker 2: Bill, he'll bet $ 5 soon.
- 54:40Speaker 3: And won $ 3, 300 a hard luck bet. It's Bill's seat now, Jimmy.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Maybe I'll... I'll come back later.
- 54:48Speaker 3: If you do, bring him water, Jim. And a hot dog.
- 54:51Speaker 3: You want a hot dog?
- 54:52Speaker 9: Yeah, I'll take a hot dog.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Bill wants a hot dog.
- 54:55Speaker 1: Hot dog for Bill.
- 54:56Speaker 3: Millions of winners and counting.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Don't forget to relish.
- 55:00Speaker 1: All right, we continue on the next round. Let's go
- 55:01Speaker 1: to Andy Staples on three. He's always kind with his
- 55:04Speaker 1: time to join us. Does a tremendous job. He and Ari,
- 55:07Speaker 1: every single day they're on YouTube. Go follow and subscribe
- 55:11Speaker 1: their YouTube channel and give them a thumbs up. Andy
- 55:13Speaker 1: and I are very close to being twins today in
- 55:16Speaker 1: our Roback hoodies.
- 55:16Speaker 3: What is up, Andy?
- 55:17Speaker 1: How are you, my friend?
- 55:19Speaker 9: Oh, yeah, the most comfortable hoodie in the world, the
- 55:22Speaker 9: Roback Hesi hoodie. Yes.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Can't beat it.
- 55:24Speaker 1: It's like wearing pajamas. It really is. except I would
- 55:28Speaker 1: get very hot in this if I wore this as pajamas.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Other than that, it's just like wearing pajamas.
- 55:31Speaker 9: Oh, no, you got to roll up the sleeves. You
- 55:33Speaker 9: roll up the sleeves, it makes you look jacked. That's
- 55:35Speaker 9: the best part.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Everybody knows I ain't jacked.
- 55:40Speaker 3: Let's start.
- 55:41Speaker 1: We touched on this in the first hour. We played
- 55:42Speaker 1: the Lincoln Riley audio. If you went, you know, one
- 55:45Speaker 1: being cold, ten being sizzling, where is that seat right
- 55:48Speaker 1: now for him, you think?
- 55:51Speaker 3: White, hot, like the surface of the sun. He just
- 55:54Speaker 3: lost 24-7 to Wisconsin.
- 55:55Speaker 7: I know.
- 55:58Speaker 3: He has to play Ohio State this week.
- 56:00Speaker 9: They play Indiana. UCLA is undefeated, and the guy who
- 56:04Speaker 9: took over at UCLA just got there and is going
- 56:07Speaker 9: to get them to the playoff before Lincoln Riley can
- 56:08Speaker 9: get USC to the playoff. I mean, it isn't really
- 56:11Speaker 9: lining up great for him right now.
- 56:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I said this earlier, Andy. I believe both Lincoln
- 56:17Speaker 3: Riley and Arch Manning will not be at their respective
- 56:20Speaker 3: programs next year. Do you see both of those, one
- 56:23Speaker 3: of those, none of those? How would you lean there?
- 56:27Speaker 9: Were you saying that Arch might wind up playing for
- 56:30Speaker 9: Lincoln Riley at Baylor or TCU?
- 56:32Speaker 3: It's a possibility. I am kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Just quickly, we were reacting to what Jordan Rodgers said
- 56:41Speaker 1: on ESPN earlier today that Arch should transfer. There are
- 56:45Speaker 1: better systems for Arch's skill set out there, and he
- 56:47Speaker 1: threw out Ole Miss, LSU, Miami as places that would
- 56:50Speaker 1: be a good fit for Arch. So that was our
- 56:52Speaker 1: reaction to Jordan Rodgers there, the reason we brought that up.
- 56:54Speaker 9: Well, but that assumes Shannon Dawson is still going to
- 56:57Speaker 9: be at Miami and not somebody's head coach next year.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 56:59Speaker 9: So that's the part you don't know. Because here's the thing.
- 57:03Speaker 9: If Texas loses another game, if Texas doesn't make the playoff,
- 57:07Speaker 9: Sark will not be fired, but he will get the–
- 57:11Speaker 9: having to hire a play calling offensive coordinator, ram down
- 57:13Speaker 9: his throat. Like they will force him to hire a
- 57:16Speaker 9: play calling OC. And then if that person meshes well
- 57:20Speaker 9: with arch, then arch might not want to go anywhere.
- 57:23Speaker 9: That's a decision you don't make until you have all
- 57:25Speaker 9: the information. So everybody who's like.
- 57:27Speaker 3: You should do this.
- 57:28Speaker 9: You should, nobody should do anything right now because you
- 57:31Speaker 9: don't know what the situation is.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Going to be.
- 57:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:34Speaker 1: That's a, that's a life of college football on the field.
- 57:38Speaker 1: We've got the cocktail party in Atlanta and it, Florida
- 57:42Speaker 1: has been a difficult team to track this year because
- 57:45Speaker 1: just when you think they're dynamite, they get blown out
- 57:47Speaker 1: by Ole Miss and then blown out by South Carolina
- 57:52Speaker 1: in a sense, and then they go and beat Texas.
- 57:54Speaker 1: I mean, this has been a hard team to figure out.
- 57:57Speaker 1: How close are these two teams right now? I know
- 57:58Speaker 1: the point spread tells me about 10. With your Andy
- 58:01Speaker 1: Staple's eyes, is this a Florida team that could spring
- 58:04Speaker 1: the upset?
- 58:04Speaker 9: I have no idea because this is the same team
- 58:08Speaker 9: that got shredded by Missouri. And I was at the
- 58:12Speaker 9: South Carolina game. And they did not look like they
- 58:16Speaker 9: could cover anybody in that game. And then they're playing Texas. Now,
- 58:20Speaker 9: I think what they did against Texas might be what
- 58:23Speaker 9: they do for the rest of the season. And I
- 58:26Speaker 9: don't know if it's necessarily going to work against Georgia.
- 58:28Speaker 9: But what they did against Texas is, it started out
- 58:31Speaker 9: with trying to get home with four to protect the
- 58:34Speaker 9: back end. Saying, okay, we're going to drop as many
- 58:38Speaker 9: people as possible into coverage. We're going to rush with four.
- 58:41Speaker 9: Hope you can stunt and hope that gets home. It
- 58:44Speaker 9: wasn't working. So they started blitzing. They started sending five
- 58:48Speaker 9: and six and saying to the DBs, hey, you're stuck
- 58:52Speaker 9: with Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo by yourself. So hang
- 58:55Speaker 9: in there. But they were getting home. Against Georgia, I
- 59:01Speaker 9: don't know that they get home. And I also don't
- 59:03Speaker 9: know that you get the situation. Like with Arch Manning,
- 59:07Speaker 9: if you watch the film studies from that Florida game,
- 59:10Speaker 9: Arch Manning doesn't look at the receiver who's hot when
- 59:13Speaker 9: he's getting blitzed. Like that's not his first thought. It
- 59:18Speaker 9: is Gunnar Stockton's first thought. I guarantee you. Like if
- 59:21Speaker 9: you send six at Gunnar Stockton and he has a
- 59:23Speaker 9: five-man protection, he knows exactly who's hot. and it will
- 59:29Speaker 9: immediately throw that guy the ball. So that's the part
- 59:32Speaker 9: that I'm not so sure about. I'm not sure if
- 59:34Speaker 9: Florida can hold up defensively because offensively, I think they
- 59:38Speaker 9: will be better. We don't even know who's going to
- 59:40Speaker 9: start a quarterback, whether it's going to be Tramiel Jones Jr.
- 59:43Speaker 9: who played against Texas or Aaron Filo. I suspect Vernell
- 59:46Speaker 9: Brown III is going to be back. John Summerall seemed
- 59:48Speaker 9: very positive about him being able to come back for
- 59:50Speaker 9: the first time since the Ole Miss game. He really
- 59:52Speaker 9: does open up the offense a lot. He's He's one
- 59:55Speaker 9: of those guys that can beat you deep, but also
- 59:56Speaker 9: can catch a ball underneath and take it a long way.
- 59:59Speaker 9: And then Dallas Wilson's there. Bailey Stockton, who is a
- 1:00:03Speaker 9: really valuable member of this receiving core, was playing very
- 1:00:08Speaker 9: hurt in the Texas game. I don't know where he's
- 1:00:10Speaker 9: at medically. But I do think having the two weeks,
- 1:00:15Speaker 9: getting Jaden Baugh more recovered from being banged up from
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: the first part of the season. Offensively, I like I
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: like where Florida's at. I'm just not sure defensively how
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: they hold up against a quarterback who is probably going
- 1:00:29Speaker 9: to do the right things with the ball every time.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Rarely can we get to the end of October in
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: a college football season and not be able to identify
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: at least who our opinion is of the best team
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: in college football. If you asked me right now, two
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: weeks ago, I would have said Georgia. I really have
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: no idea, Andy. If you asked me, I could go
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: four or five different directions. Do you have an affinitive
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: who you feel like the best team in college football
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: is right now? Hell no. Not a chance.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: Think about Alabama-LSU next week. I can see a scenario
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: where either one of those teams wins out and goes
- 1:01:05Speaker 9: deep in the playoffs.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: But one of them is going to lose and probably
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: be knocked out of the playoff.
- 1:01:11Speaker 9: That's the insanity of this season.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and the way this season is going, everybody, not everybody,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: a lot of people watched Saturday and they say, boy, LSU,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: that looks like the best team in the nation. That's
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: generally when teams lose, when we declare them, oh, this
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: is the best team in the nation now.
- 1:01:30Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, look, maybe we'll just keep declaring somebody
- 1:01:34Speaker 9: different every week. It's good for content.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: It's good for clicks.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: It's true. I mean, I think it was 2007 we
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: had a different number two every week.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Yeah, we did this every week in 2007.
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: Yeah, and then you get to the last day of
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: the season. You get to Championship Saturday, and Missouri's an
- 1:01:51Speaker 9: underdog against Oklahoma, even though they're number two in the country. Like, yeah,
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: that tracks. I can see this being a 2007-type season.
- 1:02:00Speaker 9: I don't know what our backyard brawl result's going to be, which,
- 1:02:02Speaker 9: I mean, I can't wait to figure that out.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that one was a doozy. The backyard brawl that
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: year with that game had a little meaning to it.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Andy Staples is with us. Andy and Ari every single
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: day on YouTube there. They do a lot of post
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: games as well. You guys, you pick a game, if
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken, every Saturday. And you just said, we're
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: going live after that game. Do you have any idea
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: right now which game that's going to be this Saturday?
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: I mean.
- 1:02:29Speaker 9: Fairly large brands and a shocking result.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: That's usually how that works.
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: Okay, good.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I like that.
- 1:02:34Speaker 9: We always have a post-game show at night.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:02:37Speaker 9: So 1030 Central, we're going live no matter what happens.
- 1:02:41Speaker 9: But yeah, there will probably be one in the noon
- 1:02:44Speaker 9: window and one in the 330 window. I would assume
- 1:02:47Speaker 9: it's Florida-Georgia in the 330 window.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:49Speaker 9: That's the one that probably everybody's going to be talking
- 1:02:52Speaker 9: about because either Georgia knocks Florida from any sort of
- 1:02:57Speaker 9: playoff contention whatsoever or Or Florida shocks the world and
- 1:03:01Speaker 9: God only knows what happens in the sec, the rest
- 1:03:03Speaker 9: of the year. So I mean, it's, it's, it's gonna
- 1:03:06Speaker 9: be something like that. And that, I mean, I, I
- 1:03:10Speaker 9: think may well, the noon one's gonna be interesting because
- 1:03:14Speaker 9: one of the really intriguing early games is Arizona.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Texas tech.
- 1:03:18Speaker 9: Like that one feels like an elimination game in the
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: big 12 title race, because I think you're gonna have
- 1:03:24Speaker 9: to be nine and oh, or eight and one. in
- 1:03:27Speaker 9: Big 12 play to make the championship game. And the
- 1:03:31Speaker 9: loser of this game will have suffered their second conference loss.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I will tee him up because this gentleman sitting
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: to my left has said, everybody's talking Texas Tech, BYU, Utah.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: You're not talking enough about Arizona. You like that Arizona.
- 1:03:43Speaker 9: You don't need to be talking about Texas Tech at
- 1:03:44Speaker 9: all if Arizona needs it.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Not if they have Arizona wins.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: No, and look, Texas Tech has a quarterback situation like
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: with Will Hammond. He has not thrown more than one
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: touchdown pass in any game this year, Andy. And you
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: look on the other side, Fafita, your active career leader
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: in touchdown passes, all that experience leading the Big 12.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: incompletion percentage, their defense is playing at a high level.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: I mean, this is just so college football that nobody
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: talks Arizona, but they go into Lubbock, they win that game,
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: and then a lot of people probably think they become
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: the favorite in the Big 12.
- 1:04:17Speaker 9: No, they don't become the favorite in the Big 12
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: because they've already lost to BYU and they still have
- 1:04:20Speaker 9: to play against Utah. They've got the toughest route in
- 1:04:27Speaker 9: the Big 12. Cincinnati has maybe even a tougher schedule,
- 1:04:30Speaker 9: but They're probably not in it anymore. But I'll help
- 1:04:34Speaker 9: you with those stats, too, if you want to throw
- 1:04:36Speaker 9: this at some people. So Texas Tech, a lot of
- 1:04:39Speaker 9: their production has been off of pick sixes or interceptions
- 1:04:43Speaker 9: that set up the offense with a really nice spot.
- 1:04:46Speaker 9: In the last four games, they've intercepted 11 passes, which
- 1:04:49Speaker 9: is great. But the quarterbacks they've played in those four
- 1:04:52Speaker 9: games have not been spectacular. The two best quarterbacks they
- 1:04:56Speaker 9: played were Braden Atkinson at Oregon State, which if you
- 1:04:58Speaker 9: haven't watched Oregon State, you're missing out. That offense is incredible.
- 1:05:02Speaker 9: And then Connor Wegman at Houston. Against those two players,
- 1:05:06Speaker 9: they gave up 700 passing yards, six touchdowns, and had
- 1:05:09Speaker 9: one interception. Noah Fafita is better than both those guys.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: That is true. I would agree 100% with you. That's
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: a pretty remarkable stat.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: The two biggest stories are what Bob Chesney's doing and
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: what Will Stein are doing. Just amazing jobs at really
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: two bad football programs.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Who do you.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: Believe in more moving forward, though? UCLA or Kentucky?
- 1:05:34Speaker 9: Well, UCLA has an easier schedule. But I believe in Kentucky.
- 1:05:40Speaker 9: What we've already seen them do suggests that they can
- 1:05:42Speaker 9: repeat this. It's just They're going to have to, they're
- 1:05:45Speaker 9: going to have to go beat Tennessee next week. And
- 1:05:48Speaker 9: if they do that, they've still got a mulligan to
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: play with and they play Florida. You know, I, I,
- 1:05:54Speaker 9: I think, I think Kentucky is in a good spot
- 1:05:57Speaker 9: because really, you know, they have Tennessee, Florida, and Missouri.
- 1:06:02Speaker 9: You have to go two and one against those teams.
- 1:06:05Speaker 9: It's not easy to go two and one against those teams,
- 1:06:07Speaker 9: but if they do it, they're, they're going to make
- 1:06:09Speaker 9: the playoff as long as they don't blow it against Louisville.
- 1:06:11Speaker 9: So that is a, That's an incredible spot to be
- 1:06:15Speaker 9: in in year one, given the schedule that Will Stein
- 1:06:17Speaker 9: had to face. Because Bob Chesney is doing a great
- 1:06:20Speaker 9: job at UCLA, but let's be real. UCLA has one
- 1:06:22Speaker 9: of the easiest draws in the Big Ten. Their toughest
- 1:06:25Speaker 9: game was Oregon, and Oregon's not Oregon anymore. So they've
- 1:06:30Speaker 9: got it pretty good. Kentucky had to go beat LSU.
- 1:06:34Speaker 9: They had to play Alabama and got destroyed by them.
- 1:06:37Speaker 9: They had to go to South Carolina, which is now
- 1:06:39Speaker 9: looking like a more difficult.
- 1:06:42Speaker 9: Win that they happen to achieve they went to oklahoma
- 1:06:45Speaker 9: we'll see what that winds up looking like by the
- 1:06:47Speaker 9: end of the season but i think if if they
- 1:06:51Speaker 9: if they can because they're having one of these on
- 1:06:53Speaker 9: the road so either tennessee or missouri on the road
- 1:06:57Speaker 9: and florida at home i mean that would be a.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Hell of a first year hell of a first year
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: there's no doubt Uh, Andy Staples is with us, by
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: the way, regardless of what happens this weekend, Kentucky enters
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: November and the lead of the sec, which is just remarkable.
- 1:07:12Speaker 9: Uh, everybody had that on their, uh, on their bingo card. Yeah.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Will Stein apparently did. And, uh, that's what's even more remarkable.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: He's backed it up, uh, on three sports is where
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: you find Andy. You can follow him on social media
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: at Andy Staples, uh, Andy and Ari, uh, do a
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: great job talking college football on YouTube. As I mentioned, uh,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: post game shows throughout, uh, Saturday, including the late one
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: there at 10 30 central time. Um, It's like we
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: have been reprogrammed to forget. It's almost like Men in
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Black where they do the thing and we forget Mario
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Cristobal's history. But Mario Cristobal's history is littered with losing
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: games like Saturday Night and Chapel Hill.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: So.
- 1:07:53Speaker 9: Yeah, no, they played that game already. It was called
- 1:07:54Speaker 9: the Florida State game.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: That's a good point.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: Maybe Mario has avoided this. But do you give Bill
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Belichick and the Hills, with a look-ahead potential, with Miami
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: looking ahead to Notre Dame, do you give them a
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: shot Saturday night?
- 1:08:07Speaker 9: Absolutely not.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:08:09Speaker 9: Giant talent gap. Giant, yawning talent gap inside of the
- 1:08:12Speaker 9: Grand Canyon.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: This is what we said with Georgia and Auburn, though,
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: just a couple of weeks ago. That's true, but.
- 1:08:21Speaker 9: But I feel like the talent gap's bigger here. I
- 1:08:25Speaker 9: don't think the talent gap between Jordan and Auburn's that big.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: You had a quarterback.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: I mean, the difference in any talent gap is when
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: you've got a quarterback that plays way above his head.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: And Byron Brown did that in that game.
- 1:08:38Speaker 9: And we've seen Byron Brown do that at times when
- 1:08:43Speaker 9: he was at USF. And then, obviously, I mentioned Gunnar
- 1:08:47Speaker 9: Stockton earlier when we were talking about Florida and Georgia.
- 1:08:50Speaker 9: Gunnar Stockton doesn't make a lot of mistakes. And he
- 1:08:53Speaker 9: made a very big one at the end of that game. So,
- 1:08:57Speaker 9: Darian Mensah hasn't made a lot of mistakes since he's
- 1:08:59Speaker 9: gotten to Miami. I don't foresee him doing that. And also,
- 1:09:02Speaker 9: it feels to me like Shannon Dawson, their OC, has
- 1:09:06Speaker 9: really come to understand that when in doubt, press the
- 1:09:10Speaker 9: Malachi Tony button. And it all tends to work out
- 1:09:14Speaker 9: after that.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: So, Indiana, your defending champion, I think everybody has kind
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: of flushed Indiana. We know the defense is really good.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: The offense, when you saw them in Lincoln, they had
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: six points in the fourth quarter, ended up winning that game.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: They struggled last week offensively. Again, Josh Hoover is not 100%.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: But as we start doubting Cignetti, you know how things
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: work out here, Andy. I mean, I still think Indiana
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: is one of the top two, three, four teams right
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: now in college football. Where are you right now on
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: the Hoosiers?
- 1:09:43Speaker 9: Yeah, I think they're up there. they're sort of a
- 1:09:46Speaker 9: supercharged Iowa at this point. You're not going to score
- 1:09:49Speaker 9: much on them. If you have a good defense, you're
- 1:09:51Speaker 9: probably going to hold them down. But the thing is,
- 1:09:54Speaker 9: and we'll see, like, the rest of their schedule is Minnesota, USC, Washington, Purdue.
- 1:10:00Speaker 9: They're going to be playing a couple of, like, Minnesota's
- 1:10:03Speaker 9: probably the best defense they're going to play the rest
- 1:10:05Speaker 9: of the way. Those next three are not going to
- 1:10:07Speaker 9: be able to handle the talent that Indiana has at receiver.
- 1:10:10Speaker 9: Nick Martian and Charlie Becker are two of the best
- 1:10:13Speaker 9: receivers in the country And so even even with Josh
- 1:10:17Speaker 9: Hoover banged up, they'll be able to score enough. Now,
- 1:10:21Speaker 9: the question is, in the playoff, when they play a
- 1:10:24Speaker 9: team that has an offense that can put up some
- 1:10:27Speaker 9: points on this, look, there's not a lot of offenses
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: going to put up a lot of points on them.
- 1:10:32Speaker 9: Ohio State only scored 19. But if you happen to be,
- 1:10:37Speaker 9: you know, have an offense good enough to score 20
- 1:10:40Speaker 9: on them, you got a chance to beat them.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: I like to do this when Andy is on the show,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: and we'll leave him with this, because he is the
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: one that took me off of Mother Wolf in Vegas,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: and Jennifer and I went.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Back in March when we were in Vegas. That was
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. And
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: I have sent so many people since then that tell
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: me they're going to Vegas. I go to Mother Wolf.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: A friend of mine told me about it, and it
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: was phenomenal. So if you could go to any college
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: football market this weekend and eat any meal, which one
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: would you pick? Hmm.
- 1:11:12Speaker 9: You know, there's a place I've never tried in Atlanta
- 1:11:14Speaker 9: that everybody tells me is amazing. So if I were
- 1:11:16Speaker 9: going to the Florida-Georgia game in Atlanta, there's a place
- 1:11:19Speaker 9: called Gun Show, which is one of those chef's table
- 1:11:22Speaker 9: kind of things. The menu changes every night, but it's
- 1:11:28Speaker 9: very protein-based, very carnivore-based. And it looks incredible. So I'd
- 1:11:33Speaker 9: love to try that. But of places I have tried
- 1:11:37Speaker 9: in Atlanta, I'll throw a couple at you.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: Lesparo.
- 1:11:41Speaker 9: Everything on the menu is incredible. And, of course, Heirloom Market,
- 1:11:44Speaker 9: barbecue place, kind of a Korean flavor to it.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good.
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: Over by where the Braves play.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: It's awesome.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Andy, have you been to Marcel in Atlanta? I have not. Oh,
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: my gosh. It's maybe the best steak. Everybody talks about Howell's,
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: and there's some really good steakhouses. It's a French steakhouse, though.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: The filet and frites. I mean, it is absolutely insane.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: So I would highly recommend Marcel.
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 1:12:13Speaker 9: Very, very hungry now. Not going to Atlanta this weekend.
- 1:12:17Speaker 9: Regretting that.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Yeah. By the way, the, for when we pulled up
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: to heirloom market, we were in Atlanta once and I
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: went there because I had heard the, I heard the hype.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: My wife said, really? And I was like, yeah, these
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: are the best places. When you have to pull up
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: and say, really? You know you've hit a good spot.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Like I told my kids as they were growing up,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: I'm like, you look at how dingy and dirty that
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: restaurant looks. Do you know how good their food has
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: to be to stay in business? When they look like that,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: people don't want to go there. The food's got to
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: be incredible.
- 1:12:43Speaker 9: The lady who founded it in her youth was a
- 1:12:46Speaker 9: pop star in Korea.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: Yes. I didn't know that story.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, yeah. It's amazing.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Heirloom Market's fantastic.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: Probably should have sticked with the K-Pop. I think they
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: make a little bit more than the typical restauranteer.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: But I'm glad they were.
- 1:13:01Speaker 9: I think the K-Pop sort of ran its course. So
- 1:13:03Speaker 9: then came the kimchi and the gochujang.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it was fantastic. Heirloom Market's really good. Andy Staples,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: at Andy Staples on social media. Andy and Ari, check
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: them out on the postgame shows Saturday after your favorite
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: team wins or loses. Andy, thank you very much for
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: the time. We always appreciate it.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: Thank you, gentlemen.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: Appreciate it.
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: All right, buddy.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Take care. Andy with us on the next round.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: Have you ever gone over ourselves? I have not.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I remember when you went and you were very high
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: on it.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: I've only been twice now, but man, next level.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Fox barbecue in Atlanta is very good, too. If you
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: like the more traditional barbecue, like Andy said, heirloom barbecue,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: it's got the Korean flavor.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: I need to try it.
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: I'm looking at it right now.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Oh, it's fantastic.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: I can get some brisket and some kimchi.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: In one place.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Yep. Now, connected to a service station, a convenience store, basically.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I don't think they sell gas. I say a service station.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: I think it's just a convenience store. Connected to a
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: convenience store, parking is a bit of an issue. I
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: don't think you can sit anywhere. I think it's all standing.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: They have the high top tables, and I think you
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: have to stand. I don't think there's any. See, we
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: stood to eat, so I don't think there's any seated area. Fantastic, though.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: Highly recommend. Heirloom Market, if you've never been in Atlanta.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: I had not heard of, what did he say, Gun Show?
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: I want to go try that. Never heard of that either.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: That sounds really good. I'll have to go to Gun Show.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: It's a terrible name, though. It is, but it gets
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: your attention.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I say it's a terrible name, but
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: it gets your attention, right?
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: Gun Show. What is Gun Show?
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Gun Show.
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: Mother Wolf's a good name.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Mother Wolf is a good name, and it is fantastic.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Next time you're in Vegas, try it.
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: So you know it's just not Vegas. I do. I'm
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: well aware of that. I was having a conversation about
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: Mother Wolf.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I think it started in Miami.
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: Miami, L.A., and Vegas.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Okay, they got one in L.A.? Yeah. The Vegas one
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: is in the Fontainebleau, so it's down at the end
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: of the strip. But it is terrific, and you will
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: not leave there not full. I promise you that. You'll
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: have plenty to eat. All right, we are presented here

- 1:15:17Speaker 1: by the way. You've heard about, and it's right there
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: at the end of the strip. That thing is going

- 1:16:08Speaker 1: next round.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: This is Coach's chair.
- 1:16:13Speaker 7: What?
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: We protect Coach's chair the way Hard Rock Bet protects
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: Coach's account.
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: Hard Rock Bet keeps Coach's info safe.
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: Hard Rock Bet keeps Coach's money safe.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: And we keep Coach safe. Hey, fellas. Coach. Coach.
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: How about that protection? Can I grab a wing?
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Coach's wings.
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: I guess I'll sit on the ground.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: That's where Coach puts his feet.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Safe and secure betting from the very first tap. Great
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: to meet you, Coach.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: It was Coach's pleasure.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: All right, it is the next round presented by Sporting State,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: our own Sporting State, presented by Hard Rock Bet, hardrock.bet
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: backslash clay. Thanks to Andy Staples for coming to the show,
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Mike Johnson, former Alabama offensive lineman, Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: coming up in the second half of the next round.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: We'll talk some NFL and college football with him. But first,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: as we return, Clay Travis Law brings you part of
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: the show, as always, our friends at Clay Travis Law.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: Yeah, look, accidents do not wait for a good time.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: That's why our man Clay Travis started Clay Travis Law,
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: built firm around one idea. People deserve someone willing to
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: pay attention, ask those hard questions, and push back when
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: things don't add up. They experienced trial attorneys who bring
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: the fight to corporations and insurers based in Nashville, trusted
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: across the country. They lead negotiations with honesty, determination, and
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: southern grit. They, car wrecks, truck wrecks, ride share accidents,
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: medical malpractice, premises liability, product liability. If you were wrong,
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: they want to hear about it. Here's what they promise. Honesty.
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: They're not going to sugarcoat your case. You're going to
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: hear what it's actually worth, not what you want to hear.
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: Case evaluation is free. No charge, no pressure, no hassle.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: Tell them your story. Go to claytravislaw.com. Call 877-222-4444. That's claytravislaw.com.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: No case too big or too small.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: There are a lot of people that might not be
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: big NFL fans. They may not sit down on a
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Sunday and watch it start to finish. But on Sunday night,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: they're like, oh, more football. And it's Sunday night on NBC.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: This should be one of the best NFL games of
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: the weekend. And they're going to sit down this Sunday night.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: And turn it on, and they're not going to get
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: one of the best NFL games this weekend. The Sunday
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: night game this week, the Eagles at the Commanders.
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: Awful.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Combined three wins in this game.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: And we are playing week number eight of the NFL. Boy,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: that is a stinker right there, buddy.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and I, you know, before this season, you could
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: make an argument. Hey, Commanders two years removed from an
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: NFC Championship appearance. Jaden Daniels coming back off the injury.
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: Philadelphia still, you know, a downer. Very, very talented roster,
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: but now 2-5 versus 1-4-1. Yeah, not a good matchup there.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: I mean, when you pick that game in the preseason,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: you assume you're going to get Jaden Daniels versus Jalen. Hurts,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: and you're going to get a hurt Jaden Daniels versus
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: no Jalen Hurts.
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: Well, and you point differential. You've got minus 48 for
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: the Eagles, minus 40 for the Commanders. I mean, not
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: only are they losing games, they're getting beat soundly.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: They are.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: So this is a terrible game. I mean, we're seeing
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: this in the SEC with them picking some of these
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: games early has created some issues maybe with time slots.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: The matchups are the matchups. But when you're the NFL
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: and you build these schedules way in advance, and they do,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: I mean, these schedules came out in April or May, right?
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: May, yeah.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: So they were building these in January or February. You
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: can't envision injuries. There's no way you can predict injuries.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: I guess on paper you thought, Commander's Eagles midseason could
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: be for the lead of the NFC East, maybe, when
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: you pick this one in the preseason.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: But outside of that, I do want to jump around
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: to a couple of matchups this weekend. I mean, the
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: first one's tomorrow night, Carolina at Green Bay.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: That's a fantastic game.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Yeah, very, very good matchup. The first game on the
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: schedule for Sunday, Baltimore at Buffalo.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: What's Lamar Jackson's status in that game?
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: I think he is playing.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: If he's playing, that's going to be a problem.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Buffalo's only a three-point favorite. Tennessee, Cincinnati, Arizona, Dallas, those
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: are terrible. Minnesota at Detroit should be a great game.
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: Minnesota probably going to get their first loss. We shall see.
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: Cleveland at Pittsburgh. I mean, we're playing for first place
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: now in the AFC North. I mean, yeah, some of
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: these have loss. Like Indianapolis is trading away the team
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: now at Jacksonville. Rams and Chargers are... Early on, I
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: wanted to go to this game really bad because I
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: thought it was going to be a preview of the
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: Super Bowl.
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: Kansas City, Denver, though. And then Monday night, you got
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: Chicago at Seattle. So there are some really good games.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Yeah, the Monday night game is what you think the
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Sunday night game is.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: Should be, yeah.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, that's what you think the Sunday night
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: game is. You hit the game where this weekend there
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: is something. When you say something has not happened in
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: the NFL in 32 years, you're like, man, we play
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: a lot of NFL football games for something that hasn't
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: happened in 32 years. You touched on the game. If
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: they win Sunday, and this is pretty remarkable.
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: Is this the Vikings?
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: It is not. If they win Sunday, it's the Browns.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: They will have swept Pittsburgh for the first season in
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: 32 years.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: That blows me away. If you would have said this
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: is Cleveland's first time to be in first place in
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: the month of November since then, I could believe that.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: Almost, yeah.
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: Just beating Pittsburgh. But I think it shows you how
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: consistently bad Cleveland has been and how consistent Pittsburgh has been.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, when you're in the same division.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: There are ebbs and flows, but to your point, under
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: Mike Tomlin especially, which was a lot of these 32 years,
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: and then the coach before that was Bill Cowher, who
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: was just as consistent as Tomlin, basically. That franchise is
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: very rarely down.
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: I think you remember me last week saying Tennessee was
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: going to beat Cleveland outright. I said it a couple
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: of times on the air. Anyway, with all that said.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I do think I remember you saying that.
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: So I had the Titans plus three, so unfortunately I
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: watched a lot of that game. I don't know how
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: Cleveland's winning games.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: Smoke and mirrors. It's weird, like Stefanski, who's now the
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Falcons coach, I think is a pretty good football coach.
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: I do too, yeah.
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: I just say he's had crap quarterback situations almost his
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: entire coaching career.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: And honestly, I never thought Todd Munkin was a very
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: good coach. You know, outside of the week one loss
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: to the Jags, you know, they lost to the Jets 17-12.
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: That's their only other loss. So they've beaten the Ravens.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: They've beaten the Steelers. They've beaten the Panthers. So, I mean,
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: the schedule has not been difficult at all. But, I mean,
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: you think about what they got coming up. So, at Steelers,
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: very winnable game. At Saints, very winnable game. They host
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: the Texans. By this point, the Texans might be completely
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: tapped out. They host the Raiders. They host the Bengals.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: They host the Falcons. They've got New York. They've got
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: the Colts.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Where's New York? The Giants.
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm just saying, like, their schedule is– it's
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: kind of crazy to look at, like, Can you imagine
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: the same season Cleveland, UCLA, and Kentucky could all be
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: in the postseason?
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: Oh, come on. Troy says Cleveland is basically Iowa in
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: college football terms.
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, very, very good defense. Deshaun Watson has
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: actually been better than I thought he would be.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, I mean, we were talking, if you'll rewind
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: to Deshaun Watson getting booed in the preseason game, right?
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: And Dunaway brought up the idea, and you're like, yeah,
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: I think you're on to something here. Dunaway brought up
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: the idea of It's good that they've got two road
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: games because you can start Deshaun Watson and it's not
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: a toxic situation and Deshaun Watson plays like crap and
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: then you come back to Cleveland week three and you
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: unveil Shadur Sanders and the city gets behind him. And
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: it sounded plausible then, right? You're like, yeah, that's probably
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: what's going to happen. And now Deshaun Watson's actually winning
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: football games.
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: You've had Shadoris taking one snap the whole season.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: That's right. You never thought that would be the case.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: No, I thought it would just be a revolving door.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: And I thought they would go three quarterbacks deep.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but no, it is.
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: So good for Todd Monken. Apparently he's a good coach. Well,
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: the stuff you hear internally, those guys believe because he's like,
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: everybody says how shitty the Browns are.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: F them. I do think that he has got control
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: of that locker room right now. If you're a Cleveland fan,
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: although you know there is no chance once you get
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: to a postseason, if you get to a postseason, you
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: can make any noise.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: Still being in the postseason. As a fan of a
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: team that rarely goes to the postseason. I understand that life.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: When you get there, you're probably not going to make noise.
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: It's just good to be there, though.
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, if you were predicting who's going to
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: come in last in the AFC North, I mean, you've
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: got a one-game separation. So you've got Cleveland and Pittsburgh
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: both at 5-2, and then you've got Cincinnati and Baltimore
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: at 4-3. I still think Vegas would have Cleveland in
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: the basement.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: I still would go Cleveland.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think most would. I think I would personally
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: go Pittsburgh.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: I don't know. Munkin obviously can coach, though. I mean,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: you've got to give him credit for what he's done
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: there with this franchise. It seemed like they were spiraling
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: in the direction of the Titans and the Dolphins and
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: the Jets and teams like that. Speaking of which, let's
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: unveil our.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: NFL Power Rangers. It's hard to be 5-2 on top
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: of your division and have a minus point differential, which
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: they do.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: What is Minnesota's point differential? It's got to be pretty low.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I got it right here. Minnesota. So anyway, Cleveland's
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: is minus 13. Minnesota's plus 51. Oh, wow.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: Better than I would have thought.
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: I mean, it's the second best in the NFC behind
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: San Francisco. They just don't give up points. Oh, it's
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: the second best in the NFL.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: In all the NFL? What is Buffalo's?
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: Buffalo is plus 26. Yeah, I mean, they.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: Score a lot, but they give up a lot.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: Yeah, the third best is Jacksonville Jaguars, plus 50.
- 1:25:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Wow. All right, NFL power rankings going into week eight. Brooks,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: did Dunaway participate in this from Ireland like he did
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: the SEC power rankings?
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: He sent them kind of simultaneously, like back-to-back text.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: Okay, good. So this is not a limited power ranking.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: This reflects everyone's.
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: No, it's a full one.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: All right, good. I didn't know what we were going
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: to do here. All right, so here we go on
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: the NFL power rankings. We'll go Jim's last since he's
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: not here already. Do you want to start with yours, Lance?
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: Sure. I have got San Francisco at number one. I
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: did this before Seattle went out and got Quentin Nelson.
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: Sam Darnold's been a little concerning. The run game's been
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: a little concerning, but I think they're rounding into shape. Vikings,
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: just because they're undefeated. The Bills, I moved them down
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: a little bit. I still like the Bills as the
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: best team in the AFC. And then the Bears finally
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: cracked my top five.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: My top five, I got 49ers, Vikings, Bills, Seahawks. It's
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: weird to have a 4-3 team in there, but the
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Seahawks are that good. And then the Chiefs. I know
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: they looked awful in Seattle, but I think it's just
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: that Seattle is that good. Now, you dropped the Chiefs
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: out of yours. You had them in last week, if
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: memory serves. Yeah, well, offensively, they got completely shut down.
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: I wasn't sure about Kansas City. The only reason I
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: had them in is because they were undefeated. And I
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: said that. I'm not buying this Kansas City team. I
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: think Dunaway and I have the same set of teams,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: just in different order. He's got the Bills 1, 49ers 2,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: Seahawks 3, Vikings 4, and Chiefs 5.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate him putting the Bills at No. 1,
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: which means they will lose to Baltimore this week. So
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: I will grab me some Ravens plus three.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: I got you.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: Bottom five. Your bottom five, Lance.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: This thing has, I mean, for those that thought we
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: would just have Dolphins bottom five all year long.
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: No siree.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: The Dolphins have won a game.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the Titans are the worst team in football.
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: I know the Cardinals, so I've got them at 32.
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: I know the Cardinals have two wins. That Rams win
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: is just so head-scratching. Now you go back to week
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: one against the Chargers. Doesn't seem like that big of
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: a deal. The Cardinals are really, really bad. The Jets
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: right behind them at 30. Your Dolphins moving all the
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: way up. The fourth worst team to me.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: And I think a lot of it is effort. If
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: you look at rosters, it might be the worst roster
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: in football.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: Might.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: I don't think there's a might to it. I think
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: it absolutely is.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: And then this commander's team.
- 1:27:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: Got to put them on.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: They are.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Now, I put the Jets still in front of the Dolphins,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: and I know I just saw that game on Sunday.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Many of you did not watch it. Don't blame me.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: I watched every snap. But I still think overall the
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: Jets are the better team. The better team doesn't always
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: win on a Sunday. I think the Jets are the
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: better team, but it's tight. The one thing I can't
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: move past is you don't have the 0-6 Chargers in
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: your bottom five. Am I wrong about that? Do I
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: miss that?
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: There's a reason I did that.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Oh, gosh. Because they play the Rams this weekend?
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: They're only a six-and-a-half-point favorite. Lance, they're 0-7.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: I can't show disrespect to the opponent. Dunaway's bottom five, Jets, Commanders, Titans, Dolphins, Chargers. Mine, Commanders, Jets, Dolphins, Titans, Chargers.
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: You knew there was an angle for me not to
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: put the Chargers in there, right?
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: Come on.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: If they were playing the Seahawks, Seahawks this week.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: If they were playing anybody. Anybody but the Rams. You
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: would have them where? Dead last? I don't know if
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: I'd have them dead last. I mean, if we're just, again,
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: looking at point differential, they have the second worst point
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: differential in the NFL at minus 61. The Cardinals do
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: have the worst. You guys don't have the Cardinals on there.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: The Cardinals are terrible.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: They are. I mean, to me, the bottom fight is
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: almost harder to do than the top five.
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: No, I would kind of agree with that. I mean,
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: there's like eight teams you could put in the top five.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: The bottom five is just a bunch of trash, and
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: how do you sort through trash? Yeah. I mean, what
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: makes the Commanders any better than the Chargers?
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: Nothing, really.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and what makes the Cardinals better than the Bucs?
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard to go Bucs this week. They
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: just absolutely ran it right down the Panthers' throat on Sunday.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: Such a weird game.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: That was a weird game. It's the NFL, man. So
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: there you go. That's our bottom five and top five
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: NFL power rankings. As Lance said, it starts back tomorrow night.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: With a really good Thursday night game. Now, I just
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: mentioned the Panthers had the Bucs run it right down
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: their throat, but this is the NFL. The Panthers bounce back.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: They're taking on the Packers, and I think it'll be
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: a very entertaining game on Amazon Prime.
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I think it will be, too. You just wonder. Look,
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: I think Dave Kanellis, he probably looks at this. The NFL,
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: you have some of those weird, like, stinker games that
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: just happen in season. And, you know, for the Panthers...
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: you know, say that they can shake out of that.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: But it should be a really, really good game tomorrow night.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: Yeah, should be entertaining. Lance ran down some of the
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: other games that are going to be entertaining as well.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: Before we go to break, because when we come back,
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: I want to read CBS's quarterback power rankings coming into
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: this week and the college football game. And just to ask,
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: if you woke up out of a coma and saw
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: these rankings, what do you think is happening in college football?
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: But before we go to break, Tyler is going to
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: try to put this in perspective for us. Last night,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: now I don't know anything about this, but I know
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: I love a good upset in sports. Last night, Fleetwood
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: City beat Arsenal in some sort of tournament that they
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: have over there.
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the EFL Cup. Now it's called the Carabao
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: Cup because Carabao is the sponsor of it. but it's
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: basically just a bunch of English soccer teams.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Anybody that plays over there is in it, so you
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: might be the top level playing the bottom level, which
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: was the case last night.
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: Wait, so is this almost like, and I'm just throwing
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: this out randomly because I've never heard of Fleetwood City,
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: and I don't know if that's a big deal or not.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: Or is it Fleetwood Town?
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: Fleetwood Town FC.
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: They are in EFL League 2, which is the fourth
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: division in English soccer teams.
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: So would this be Samford beating Ohio State in football?
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Hang on. Tyler's going to do this. This was an upset.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: Fleetwood City on a penalty kick, or Fleetwood Town, excuse me,
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: on a penalty kick beats Arsenal. They're not just in
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: the fourth level, Tyler. They were 18th in the standings
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: in the fourth level. They're not the best team in
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: the fourth level. In fact, they were 17 better. They
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: have a $ 3 million payroll. Arsenal's payroll is $ 1.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: 5 billion.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: So it's a $ 3 million payroll versus a $ 1. 5 billion payroll.
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: So this might be more like miles against Ohio State?
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: You tell me, Tyler.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: To put it in baseball terms for you, this would
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: be like returning World Series champion Dodgers losing in extra
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: innings to a single-A or high-A team that regularly gets whipped.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: Like the worst single-A or high-A team.
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: Yeah, like a middling single-A or high-A team winning in
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: extra innings against the Dodgers.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: Now, but in the– like we've seen these exhibition games where–
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: I remember going to one at the old Rickwood Field
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: where the Cardinals, St. Louis Cardinals came and played UAB.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: And I think UAB might have beaten them that day.
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: You've seen like these college teams are– Yeah, yeah. So
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: you're talking about with the Dodgers like going out there
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: and rolling like– you know, frontline, you know, Scooble or Glassnow?
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: What are their top guys in really trying to win
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: the game?
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: Okay. Yes.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: The Carolina League, I will just go Carolina League. They're
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: single A, the worst team this year.
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: Is it the Durham Bulls?
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: The Kannapolis Cannonballers.
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: That's a lot.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: Oh, no, here we go. The Delmarva Shorebirds, our friends
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: in Delmarva. We've got gear for them.
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: I almost wore that hat today.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: That would have been wild. The Delmarva Shorebirds, for those
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: that don't know, that's part of the... Outside of Ocean City.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: Outside of Ocean City. And we met some of the
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: people when we went to Ocean City. And that was
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: when the old boy, he hasn't really panned out yet,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: has he? Jackson Holiday was playing for him, right?
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: This with the Orioles now.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, Jackson Holiday has had moments, no doubt.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but he hasn't been the star that they thought
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: he was going to be at that point, I don't think.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: Not consistent.
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: Weren't you given a card of his?
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they let us pull a card and Lance pulled
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Jackson Holiday. But Delmarva is Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. It's
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: a little area where all those states are very close together.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: So they call that region Delmarva. They've got the Shorebirds,
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: the single A, the Carolina League franchise for the Orioles,
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: who finished 45 and 87, 35 and a half games
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: back of the Fredericksburg Nationals. So this would be like
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: the Dodgers going to because this game was at Fleetwood Town.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: This is the Dodgers going to Delmarva and losing in
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: a game that mattered, right? I mean, this game mattered?
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a tournament match.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: I want to say it was round of 16.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Some are calling it the biggest upset in the history
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: of sports. Now, not most impactful, just like if you
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: take quality of team versus quality of team.
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: Tyler, you know I was all in on the World Cup.
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: Not a shit on your soccer, but soccer seems a
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: sport if you're going to have a massive upset.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Well, the games are so low scoring.
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: That would be it.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: The games are so low scoring that if you get
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: a lucky break and go up 1-0, listen to me,
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: I got a daughter playing soccer now and I won't
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: say 1-0 anymore, I'll say 1-0.
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I would think that the three biggest upset potential
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: sports would be soccer, baseball, and a heavyweight fight.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: Anything where the scoring is going to be low.
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: Then a heavyweight fight just because you literally have a
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: puncher's chance.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: Yeah, just one punch is all it does. So kind
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: of crazy last night. The thing that jumped out at
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: me was the roster value that Fleetwood Town has a
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: $ 3 million roster with. How many guys are on that roster?
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Probably 20-ish?
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: 18 to 20, probably.
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: 18 to 20. That's $ 3 million.
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Those guys are making no money.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: We're not talking reserve players.
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: So at the same time, they might not give a
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: rat's ass.
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: And Arsenal's a $ 1. 5 billion roster. I mean, a bigger,
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: more valuable roster than even the Dodgers have. $ 1. 5 billion.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: It's insane.
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: So that was one of the biggest upsets in the
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: history of sports, they say, last night. Troy says, ask Brock,
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: is it Maynard Day versus the Rams?
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: I'd feel good about the Rams in that spot. Yeah,
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: take the Rams, lay the points. The NFL, you can't
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: do any of these analogies.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: No, you can't. That's crazy, though. All right, one more segment.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: We'll talk some quarterback power rankings and what would your
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: life be like if you woke up from a coma
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: and saw these power rankings. What would you think would happen?
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: That is coming up on the next round on Sporting State,
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: This year, the biggest sportsbook party's getting even bigger.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: Hey, there's J-Boy.
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: Whether you just getting here or you been here, you're
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: not leaving here empty-handed.
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: Hey, J.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: Jimmy Johnson. Kevin, they know me?
- 1:35:57Speaker 9: Of course.
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: In this party, everybody's somebody.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: This season, Hard Rock Bet has something for everyone.
- 1:36:03Speaker 7: Plus, new customers bet $ 5 and get up to $ 500
- 1:36:06Speaker 7: in no-sweat bets.
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: Hey, that's Fat Joe.
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: Forget him. That's J-Boy. Hey, J-Boy.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: My name's J-Boy. I got that.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: I got that.
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: We continue on Sporting States. It is the next round
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bets. Hard Rock Bet backslash Clay.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet backslash Clay. As we return, we remind

- 1:37:26Speaker 1: That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T, coffee.com. I don't want to speak too soon,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: but I think I might have finally... I got to
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: check my phone here real quick.
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: I've only received two phone calls today. One I was expecting,
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: and then one from my daughter that is away at college.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: So I think I might have finally, last night... I
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: don't know if you answer the spam calls that want
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: to give you a $ 59, 000 loan, which is a strangely
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: specific amount.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: It really is.
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: And for the record, because I'm on a lot of
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: our official documents when we started this company, so I
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: get a lot of people reaching out, a lot of
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: these bots about business loans. But riding to Gatlinburg with
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: you a couple of weeks ago and back, I've never
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: seen somebody get the amount of spam calls you get.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: But I have started answering them and opting out. Like
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: I tried blocking numbers, but that doesn't work because they
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: just go to another number. So I've started answering and
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: opting out.
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: And that works?
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: I haven't received one all day. I was going to
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: say I don't want to speak too soon, but it
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: is 1048 central time. And I've received two phone calls
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: today again. So give me that process.
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: How do you do it?
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: Well, you got to have some patience, Lance. You got
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: to answer.
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: I've worked on my patience.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Okay, good. This will be a great test of it.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: You've got to answer. And sometimes you get in the
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: little phone tree like press one if you desire this loan.
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Press two if you would like to speak about another loan.
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: And you've got to wait and find out what number
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: you have to press to opt out. It's normally nine.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: Press nine to opt out. Or you just have to
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: get on the phone and talk to somebody. So last night,
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: my daughter's wrapping up soccer practice. I get one of
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: these calls and I'd gotten like six calls from Melissa
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: that wants to give me $ 59, 000. And I decide I'm
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: going to answer it. So I answer it, and I
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: have to talk to somebody. And the gentleman who, based
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: on the sound of his voice, was not in the
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: United States, tells me, starts his spiel as a, hey,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: you can save it. Take me off your list. Don't
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: ever call me again. And he literally says, but sir,
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: I called to offer you this loan.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: I was like, I don't want the loan.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: I don't want you to ever call me again.
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: Just take me on. I'm doing you a favor.
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: What if I have another loan you might be interested in?
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: Maybe more.
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: Was it a real person or a bot?
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: No, it was a real person. It seemed to be.
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: I can't tell sometimes now. I know.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: No, that happened to me the other day. I had to,
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: who was I calling? Oh, I had to.
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: You're probably getting a tee time, right?
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: No, no, it's all automatic. They know me. They know
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: the tee time I want.
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: What time are you playing today?
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: 1.50. I had to call to take care of one
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: of the accounts I have. And I have an actual
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: conversation with a woman. And at the end of the conversation,
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: it goes, OK, I'll now hand you over to a
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: live agent. And I'm like, holy crap, I was talking
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: to a robot the whole time. It was pretty dang good.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: Like it never jumped out at me that this was
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: not a real human. And I think we're pretty aware
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: of those things by now, right?
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: And I think that's going to be one of the problems.
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: Like going back to people getting emotionally involved with some
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: of these AIs, when they have a voice attached to it.
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: Like I don't know how many people are having conversations
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: like that. But I know a lot of people were
- 1:40:37Speaker 3: having conversations with the robot, just basically texting back and forth.
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: But now you can have these phone conversations, right?
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Yeah. No, it was like it was literally the robot said,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: good afternoon, Mr.
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: Brown.
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: This is Melissa.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: I see that you need help with what I was
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: looking for. I was like, yeah, absolutely. I was having
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: an issue logging into this thing. All right, let me
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: take one look at it real quick. If you don't
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: mind me placing you on a brief hold. I was like, no,
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: not at all. Okay, thank you.
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: Puts me on hold.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, that's very nice. Comes back, says, Mr. Brown,
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: I think we're to the bottom of your issue. Do
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: you mind if I hand you over to a live
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: agent now? I was like, holy crap.
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: That was a robot.
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: And even when the live agent came on, I was like, hey,
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: I want to commend your guy's AI. I had no
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: idea that was a robot I was talking to. She
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: just laughed. She goes, well, sir, you're with me now.
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: She didn't want to address it at all. You're talking
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: to me now, sir. How can I help you? I
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: was like, man, that was pretty dang good.
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: She was an AI, too.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: Yeah, probably so. I was probably just going from one
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: robot to another one, didn't I? If you had to,
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: I know this is on the fly. If you went
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: with your college quarterback power rankings, how strongly would you
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: feel say about your top three or so?
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: I think I would feel pretty strong about my top three.
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: All right. Where would you go?
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: I would go at the moment. Of course, as soon
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: as I say that. Mensa's got to be on there.
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: Okay. Look what I have done. This is so freaky.
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: I cannot believe I mentioned it. I can't believe I
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: said a word. Now freaking Melissa is calling me, wanting
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: to give me, I guarantee this is about a loan.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: I'll help you review what you qualify for, go over
- 1:42:17Speaker 5: the available rates, and make sure you understand everything before deciding.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: I can't do it anymore. I can't do it. I
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: cannot believe I brought this up. I know I had
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: a call all day. And I bring it up one
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: time and freaking Melissa.
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: This is what happens. You speak it into existence.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Melissa's calling me to give me $ 72, 389 now.
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: My number is somehow, like, I guess was the old
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: number of somebody else. Because now I've got a bunch
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: of people from Baltimore hitting me up, asking me for
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: beats and calling me Juice. That's been happening for months.
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: They call you Juice.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: Juice?
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: Juice.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: Do you have a local area code? Is your area
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: code a Baltimore area code?
- 1:42:55Speaker 7: No.
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: So Juice used to have a 205 number rolling up
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: in Baltimore and people were buying beats and what from him?
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: Just beats as far as I know.
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: Yeah, that could have been code word for something. I
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: need some beats, Juice.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: Got a lot of people asking me to come through
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: to the studio.
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: So one, I would go Mensa. I still think two,
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: coming off his worst completion percentage as an FBS starter,
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: I would go Trinidad Chambliss. And I think three, I
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: would take Drew Mustermaker. Okay.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: CBS Sports, David Carr, I don't think the former quarterback,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: does his college football power ratings. And I just looked
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: at them today just randomly. And I'm like, man, if
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: I woke up from a coma and we've played, what now,
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: eight weeks of college football? Yep. And this is my
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: power rankings? I would wonder what happened to my sport.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Number one, Darian Minson. Not at all surprised with that one.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: That's who you just put number one. Number two, and
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: I'm a little surprised you didn't go with this guy
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: because I know you like him so much.
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: Huh? Go ahead. Who is it?
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: Brayden Atkinson.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: Oh, I mean, he leads the FBS right now in
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: touchdown passes. It's such a weird, like, trajectory for him.
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: He was Mercer. He was the Jerry Rice Player of
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: the Year at Mercer. So that is for whatever level
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: that is. That's the equivalent to a Heisman, I think.
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: This guy was at Mercer? He was at Mercer last year.
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I had no idea that's where he was.
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: Yeah, so then he follows Shep to Corvallis.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: And, like, he is absolutely tearing it up with Jesse Legree.
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: But I wouldn't, again, I couldn't go there right now.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: They've got him number two. Number three, they've got Gio
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: Lopez at Wake Forest.
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: Gio Lopez has been really good. I mean, he's fifth
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: nationally in total yards per game, over 314 yards per game.
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: It's just so weird because when you watch Gio Lopez
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: last year in Chapel Hill, he was a bad quarterback.
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: And now he is just so efficient under Jake Dickard.
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: I think a lot of that is the relationship with Dickard.
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: Number four is Drew Mastemaker. Number five is CJ Carr.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: You wouldn't be surprised by that. Number six is... is
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss. Number seven is Connor Wegman at Houston. I
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: think we knew he was good. I don't know if
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: we knew he was that good.
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: No, he's playing way above what we thought he would play,
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: but three of mine were in the top six, so
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: that's not bad.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: Number eight is Bear Bachmeier. It's not traditional quarterback play,
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: but he gets the job done.
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's almost Tim Tebow-lite.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: Yeah, very light.
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: Yeah, very light. But you know what I'm saying. Very discount.
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: The style that he plays. He's a big physical quarterback.
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: I mean, do you trust him on a two-minute drive,
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: like completing passes? I don't know about that. But overall,
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: for 60 minutes, he's a really good quarterback.
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: Number nine is Keelan Russell. You still think he's top
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: ten in your power rankings?
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: I do.
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: I would have Keelan in there. It's been uneven, though.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: Yeah. And number ten, again, if I woke up from
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: my coma, I would be like, what in the world?
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Kenny Minchie.
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: Well, Kenny Menchie has done nothing but win, and he
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: doesn't turn the football over.
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: Sam Leavitt not in there. I think you would have
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: Sam Leavitt in your top ten.
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: Not yet.
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Not yet?
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: Trending that direction, though, based on the last couple of weeks.
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: But that is a pretty wild top ten that I
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: could go into basically knocking on the door of November.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Oregon State's quarterback, transferred from Mercer, is number two. Wake
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: Forest quarterback, transfer from South Alabama, transfer from North Carolina
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: is number three in the power rankings. And you really
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: don't argue with these guys.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: Do you?
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: Well, think about it. So go back, Trinidad Chambliss, Ferris State.
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: I mean, just go through where these guys came from.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: Mensah, Tulane.
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: Yeah, Tulane.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: Brayton Atkinson, Mercer. Geo Lopez, South Alabama. Drew Mestemaker, North Texas.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: CJ Carr, born and bred at Notre Dame, right? Trinidad Chambliss,
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: Ferris State, Connor Wegman.
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: Connor Wegman was A & M.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: Go back five of the top six from programs that
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: just aren't on the radar at all when it comes.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: To quarterback play. You mean where they're playing now or
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: where they came from?
- 1:47:03Speaker 3: No, where they came from.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: So you don't think Mercer, South Alabama, North Texas, and
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: Ferris State are on the radar screens?
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: Those are incredible stories. They really are.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: They're all happening at the same time.
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: And I'll tell you what's going on. And so like
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: as much as we hate the transfer portal, people are
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: being identified now that probably never would have been identified
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: before because it's so competitive.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: Right. That's crazy. No, you're absolutely right. And there are
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: going to be guys, I guess, like this every year.
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: Yeah, what you would do is you would give a
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: guy a scholarship, and you would try to develop that
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: guy at your program. And if he transferred out, then
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: you'd be looking for another guy. But you're not going
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: to do deep dives looking at quarterbacks at Ferris State.
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: You're not going to do deep dives at Mercer.
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: You're absolutely not. That's why having a GM is going
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: to become hugely important there. Smuff is telling me you
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: can screen the unknown callers on iPhone. I already do that.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: but it lets them through still. It does make them
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: explain why they're calling. That's how I know how much
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: of the loan I'm being offered because it pops up
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: on my screen when they say it, that I'm being
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: offered a $ 59, 000 loan from Melissa. Also, our Stu's in
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: the chat wants me to know that it is hardrock.bet
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: forward slash Clay, not backslash Clay.
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: I always thought that one was a backslash because like
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: if you start at the top.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: R Stews says you're an idiot for thinking that. It
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: is HardRock.bet. Shall I just say slash Clay? Clay?
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: I would just say slash because that's the one most
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: people will know.
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: I do think most people can figure that out once
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: you get there.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: That's right. That's where you bet $ 5 to get up
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: to $ 500 in no sweat bets. HardRock.bet slash Clay. Forward
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: or back, your choice.
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: Just slash.
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: It is indeed a forward slash.
- 1:48:48Speaker 7: It is.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: I think most people say backslash. I don't know why
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: we got that driven into our heads. It really bothers
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: our stews.
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: Really bothers them.
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: Apparently. So if we could make that correction in the
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: future for everyone. Uh, that way you can bet $ 5
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: and get up to $ 500 and no sweat beds. So, uh,
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: oh yeah. Our Stu says he never called me an
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: idiot for saying it. He just wants me to get
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: it right. And apparently Dunaway doesn't get it right either.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: Um, all right.
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: So that's how you get there.
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: We've got two more hours of the show coming up.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: Some of you are hanging around for, uh, on a
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: sport and state. For Clay and Buck, enjoy that. You
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: can get what we're doing for the next two hours
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: on demand and next round live or join us live
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: there on YouTube. Next round live on YouTube. Next round
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: live on YouTube. Thank you for joining us on The
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: Daily Wire and Sporting State. We'll be right back here
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: at 9 o'clock Central, 10 Eastern tomorrow. If you're leaving us,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: have a great day. If you're not, we'll be right back.
