- 0:08I was born to kill it.
- 0:14I was meant to win.
- 0:15I am down and willing,
- 0:16so I will find a way.
- 0:17It took a minute,
- 0:18now it didn't happen right away.
- 0:20When they get hot in the kitchen,
- 0:22you decide to stay.
- 0:23That's how a winner's made.
- 0:24Stick a fork in the hater on
- 0:26my dinner plate.
- 0:33What is going on, everybody?
- 0:34Welcome to the Clydesdale Media Podcast,
- 0:37where we are featuring the
- 0:38athletes of the 2024
- 0:39CrossFit Games Semifinals.
- 0:42And I'm so honored and
- 0:43privileged to have with me,
- 0:44and I hope I get this right,
- 0:46Chloe Govan-David.
- 0:48Nailed it.
- 0:49That's perfect.
- 0:50All right, cool.
- 0:52Awesome.
- 0:53Thanks for having me.
- 0:54Yeah, I really appreciate it.
- 0:55Thank you for jumping on with me.
- 0:57I love celebrating the
- 1:00accomplishments of semifinals.
- 1:02I think it goes unrecognized too much,
- 1:04and it's a huge
- 1:05accomplishment to make it this far.
- 1:07Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:08That's well said.
- 1:09It's so competitive,
- 1:10and just every year it gets
- 1:12more competitive.
- 1:12So getting there is truly, as you say,
- 1:14an accomplishment.
- 1:16Yeah, and in North America East,
- 1:18really a big accomplishment
- 1:19to make that top 40.
- 1:20Yeah.
- 1:22Yeah, it's a pretty stacked field.
- 1:23I mean,
- 1:24all the podcasts are talking about it.
- 1:25I mean, Europe and the East.
- 1:27So again, just making it,
- 1:28it's like a huge accomplishment.
- 1:30So happy.
- 1:31Did I hear a rumor that you retired?
- 1:35You heard it right.
- 1:37I think I got maybe like
- 1:38eight DMs after like, are you going?
- 1:41Is this just for fun?
- 1:43Are you trying to get, you know,
- 1:44the strength of feel?
- 1:45Like, why are you there?
- 1:46So I got a bunch of DMs and
- 1:48you got it right.
- 1:49Like retirement, that's what I said.
- 1:52Okay.
- 1:53And here we are.
- 1:54And whatever it is, it is, right?
- 1:56Kind of.
- 1:57Yeah, I guess you could say it that way.
- 1:58I mean, for me,
- 2:00it was more about maybe
- 2:01changing my focus last year
- 2:03and making sure that
- 2:06retirement for me meant
- 2:07I'm not doing what everybody
- 2:09else is doing.
- 2:09So the time in the gym, the priorities,
- 2:12and it was just a shift of focus.
- 2:14And the fact that I'm here is amazing,
- 2:16but it really was about the
- 2:17shift of focus and what I
- 2:18wanted to focus on for the year.
- 2:20And just being here again is just,
- 2:22I would almost say miracle.
- 2:26Well,
- 2:27we'll get into that in a second, but I've,
- 2:29I've talked to other
- 2:29athletes who have really
- 2:32found that when they kind
- 2:34of shift focus and reduce
- 2:36the volume they're under,
- 2:38their bodies are starting
- 2:39to feel much better.
- 2:40And like,
- 2:41I talked to Scott Tetlow in this
- 2:43series and he was like,
- 2:45I feel better this year
- 2:46than I've ever felt.
- 2:48And I really changed my
- 2:49focus to family and our
- 2:51business and less time in the gym.
- 2:54And it's actually become a benefit.
- 2:58Yeah, that's pretty close.
- 3:00I mean, listening to that,
- 3:01it almost hits home.
- 3:03It sounds very,
- 3:03very similar to how I've
- 3:05been taking my year, changing the focus,
- 3:08and then seeing that less volume,
- 3:10your body feels better,
- 3:11as he said and as you've said,
- 3:13and seeing how that affects
- 3:14your performance.
- 3:16And that, yes,
- 3:16feeling better means that
- 3:18when you give it,
- 3:19you can actually give it 100%.
- 3:20So like not having to do any re-dos,
- 3:23really focusing on just
- 3:24doing it once and your
- 3:26body's feeling good.
- 3:27So you don't have to redo
- 3:28because all my elbow or my knee,
- 3:30or I was tired from my other trainings,
- 3:32or there's just nothing
- 3:34that's influencing it.
- 3:35You're just giving your a
- 3:35hundred percent and then
- 3:36seeing where that lies.
- 3:40So for people who don't know,
- 3:42you are a multiple-time games athlete,
- 3:45once as an individual in 2018,
- 3:47and then you shifted focus to team.
- 3:50And your Instagram says three times,
- 3:54CrossFit site says four times.
- 3:58Well, either way, it's pretty impressive.
- 4:00Thanks.
- 4:01Thanks.
- 4:02Um,
- 4:02so why the shift from individual after
- 4:06a successful year,
- 4:07finishing 25th top 25 in
- 4:10the world's pretty
- 4:11impressive and then shifting to team.
- 4:14Yeah, that's a good question.
- 4:16I think it's something
- 4:17actually I've kind of
- 4:19thought about and why did I
- 4:20do that shift in 2019?
- 4:22Um,
- 4:23I would definitely say if I can be candid,
- 4:252018 was the rookie season
- 4:29and I think everybody has
- 4:30their rookie season differently.
- 4:32Some people have that huge
- 4:33upward trajectory,
- 4:35some people live it and
- 4:36it's almost like a dazed feeling.
- 4:39And I think I was more in the camp of,
- 4:41I was I'll say underprepared.
- 4:43I didn't really have a coach.
- 4:44I was doing it mostly by
- 4:45myself and I qualified.
- 4:47And I feel the coach that
- 4:49was helping me in my day to day,
- 4:51he was almost like my gym
- 4:52coach more than like my personal coach.
- 4:55And we looked at each other
- 4:56in 2018 and said,
- 4:57so you qualified now what?
- 4:59we didn't even have a game
- 5:00plan past regionals.
- 5:02Back then it was regionals.
- 5:04So I just feel like I was underprepared.
- 5:06I lived the games and I kind
- 5:08of had like almost a pit in
- 5:09my stomach of what did I just live?
- 5:11Is that really what I want
- 5:12to continue doing?
- 5:13So a little bit of
- 5:14questioning and wonder
- 5:16mixed with a little bit of, like I said,
- 5:17daze and confuse of what I
- 5:19had just lived.
- 5:20And I just decided that like 2018,
- 5:22I want to see how I've at 2019, sorry,
- 5:24following 2018,
- 5:26I kind of wanted to take a
- 5:26step back and see how I
- 5:28felt about CrossFit, my career.
- 5:30I was also entering teaching at the time.
- 5:32So I feel like it was a
- 5:33mixed form that meant I
- 5:35just had to take a year off.
- 5:37So 2019,
- 5:38I didn't compete in any CrossFit events.
- 5:41Okay.
- 5:42They have you listed on the team in 2019.
- 5:44Were you an alternate?
- 5:47Exactly.
- 5:47So at the time they said, Oh,
- 5:49would you like to just be an alternate?
- 5:50Let's just say something happens.
- 5:52I mean, you will call you,
- 5:53you put your shoes on and
- 5:55you'll show up and you'll,
- 5:56you'll do your best.
- 5:57And I said, I'm up for that.
- 6:00So in your three years on a team,
- 6:03you never finished outside the top 10.
- 6:04That's true.
- 6:06Yep.
- 6:07That is really impressive.
- 6:11And so when I,
- 6:12when I go back and I look
- 6:13through your Instagram researching you,
- 6:17and I mean this in the sincerest way,
- 6:20I couldn't find any holes in what you do.
- 6:23And I know that Instagram is
- 6:24a highlight reel,
- 6:26but you're good on your hands.
- 6:28You lift a lot of weight.
- 6:32Everything seems to be sound.
- 6:35The one thing you can't see
- 6:36is engine or running,
- 6:39but you're a very complete athlete.
- 6:43Well,
- 6:43that's the biggest compliment I think
- 6:44I've ever received.
- 6:46I think that's what CrossFit, right?
- 6:48That's the whole point is
- 6:50trying to be the well-rounded athlete.
- 6:52Like you said, not having any holes.
- 6:54I think that's the major
- 6:55point of conversation,
- 6:56even between coaches and athletes.
- 6:58We have to make sure we are program proof,
- 7:00right?
- 7:01We can show up.
- 7:02And whatever comes out,
- 7:03we're able to tackle it and
- 7:04not be too stressed about it.
- 7:07I would say you're giving me
- 7:08a little bit more credit
- 7:09than maybe I deserve.
- 7:12If you're asking,
- 7:13I would definitely say that
- 7:14strength is my weakness.
- 7:17So more the clean, the front squat,
- 7:19the back squat.
- 7:21Snatch,
- 7:22which is funny because that's
- 7:23what's coming out, is my strongest lift.
- 7:26which is, I mean, great for semifinals,
- 7:28but I would definitely say
- 7:29that a front squat clean, as I said,
- 7:31is definitely something I have worked on.
- 7:34And speaking of that retirement,
- 7:36This past year, I've been doing strength.
- 7:38I was like, I like the strength element.
- 7:40And that's something I
- 7:41haven't been able to
- 7:42develop in my career.
- 7:43It's been something that's held me back.
- 7:46So this year I was like, oh,
- 7:47I'll just do some more
- 7:47lifting and enjoy that part of the sport.
- 7:50And actually I've really
- 7:51made some big gains.
- 7:52And that's probably what
- 7:53you've seen on my Instagram
- 7:54is recently I've posted a
- 7:56lot of lifting because
- 7:57that's been my main focus
- 7:59as an off season, just for fun,
- 8:01because it's something that
- 8:02I actually enjoy doing.
- 8:04Yeah.
- 8:04I, what's coming to mind is, um,
- 8:07three 45s on each side on a back squat,
- 8:10rough math.
- 8:11I'm thinking just over 300 pounds.
- 8:14Yeah.
- 8:15I mean, my, my box.
- 8:15Yeah.
- 8:16Yeah.
- 8:16That's fine.
- 8:17Yeah.
- 8:19And to give it to the other girls though,
- 8:20like some girls can take that and just,
- 8:22you know, go for 10, 10 reps at that,
- 8:25which I like giving people
- 8:26credit where it's due.
- 8:27And if I 300 is one rep,
- 8:30like everything's aligned,
- 8:32the stars are aligned.
- 8:33And I think for other girls,
- 8:34that's just something they
- 8:35can hit on any day, barefoot in shorts,
- 8:38you know?
- 8:38So I'll give credit where it's due,
- 8:41but I've definitely made
- 8:42strength gains and I'm
- 8:43proud of that for myself.
- 8:45You should be proud of that.
- 8:47With what I saw with the
- 8:48pirouettes on your handstands,
- 8:51you pirouetted on a box.
- 8:55Last year at the Games,
- 8:56your seated legless looked good.
- 8:59I could not find holes.
- 9:01So yeah, 300 isn't the heaviest,
- 9:04but when you pair it with
- 9:05what else you can do,
- 9:06I think you're pretty complete.
- 9:09Thank you.
- 9:10I really appreciate that.
- 9:11And looking back,
- 9:12we're the toughest critics as athletes.
- 9:15We just want anything that we can just be,
- 9:17okay, that's not good enough.
- 9:18And you got to go in the gym.
- 9:19And I mean,
- 9:20we really are the toughest
- 9:21critics on ourselves.
- 9:23Yeah.
- 9:23And you need to be right.
- 9:24Self-assessment is key to
- 9:26being successful in this sport.
- 9:28Absolutely.
- 9:28Yeah.
- 9:29It's that grind,
- 9:29that will to go get that
- 9:31one second where everybody says, oh,
- 9:32that's good enough.
- 9:33And for us, that one second is crucial,
- 9:35right?
- 9:36On a row, on a run, super important.
- 9:40Sarah Cooper,
- 9:41our resident Canadian in the chat.
- 9:44I joined late.
- 9:44Is she competing in the East?
- 9:46Yes, she is.
- 9:47Oh, yes.
- 9:49So you come into the East in
- 9:5013th position.
- 9:52They take 11 spots.
- 9:56For being retired,
- 9:57that's really close to a qualifying spot.
- 9:59Does that add extra pressure
- 10:00to this or are you not
- 10:02letting that factor in?
- 10:05It's hard, right?
- 10:07I think anybody who decides
- 10:09to pay the entrance fee and
- 10:12show up doesn't want to
- 10:13show up and just do it.
- 10:15So I'm not going to say, oh,
- 10:16I'm just going to show up and do it.
- 10:17Of course,
- 10:18I'm going to show up and compete
- 10:19to the 100% that I can give.
- 10:22And that'll be what that'll be.
- 10:24And my personal barometer of
- 10:26what I want to achieve is
- 10:27feel that I gave everything
- 10:28I had in the event.
- 10:29And I think that's cliche,
- 10:31but that's really what I'm
- 10:32trying to hold on to.
- 10:33What am I able to give in this event?
- 10:36And you know it, whether you're, I think,
- 10:37Tia,
- 10:38you know if you've stepped out on the
- 10:40floor and given everything you can,
- 10:41regardless of first or 30th or 40th.
- 10:43So I think for me,
- 10:45that's the most important.
- 10:47And the rankings and the qualifying spot,
- 10:50I mean, it is what it is.
- 10:51Our field is stacked, as we've said.
- 10:53So less about the qualifying
- 10:56spots and more about what I can give.
- 10:58And if it happens, it happens,
- 11:00but it's not necessarily
- 11:01something I'm like writing
- 11:02on a board and really just aiming for.
- 11:05Did I read right that your
- 11:07gym is a pro one in Montreal?
- 11:10So that's the gym.
- 11:11Yeah.
- 11:11That's the gym that I do.
- 11:13I'll do half of my,
- 11:14like half of my training, but I'm also,
- 11:16I own a gym as well.
- 11:18C2 athletics.
- 11:19So I do both.
- 11:20I own that gym,
- 11:21but pro one is definitely
- 11:22where I get more of my like
- 11:25serious training.
- 11:26So I'm also coaching the pro
- 11:28one team that's in the east.
- 11:30So we've been doing a
- 11:30YouTube series of Grind to Greatness,
- 11:33and I've been the head
- 11:34coach along with Fred,
- 11:35who's my assistant coach.
- 11:36So I've been coaching the team,
- 11:38trying to train,
- 11:39trying to juggle all of
- 11:40that all together.
- 11:43Wow.
- 11:44So I didn't even know that.
- 11:44So let's dive down that.
- 11:47How does that work on the weekend?
- 11:49Do you need Fred to take
- 11:51over more of that at the
- 11:53event because you'll be doing individual?
- 11:56Yeah,
- 11:57so that comes with the complexities
- 11:59of the season.
- 12:00So of course being, we'll just say retired,
- 12:03quote unquote.
- 12:03What I mean by retired in my
- 12:05language means I'm not
- 12:06putting the efforts that I
- 12:08usually have put in the
- 12:08last 12 years and what may happen,
- 12:11happen.
- 12:12But I told the team that I
- 12:13would be coaching them and
- 12:14that I would be their main
- 12:16source of like help and strategy.
- 12:18I love strategy.
- 12:19I think that's one of my
- 12:20biggest strengths as an
- 12:21athlete is a strategy.
- 12:23So we've been working on
- 12:24different variations for the workouts.
- 12:26So my priority is still being with them.
- 12:29So Fred will be there.
- 12:30He has the coaches pass
- 12:31since I have my athlete pass.
- 12:34However, we'll be really working together.
- 12:35And if I need to cut my
- 12:37warmup five minutes short, well,
- 12:39that's going to be it
- 12:40because I've really chosen
- 12:41to help that team.
- 12:42And I really want them to make the games.
- 12:44That's definitely my focus.
- 12:46And if the audience doesn't know,
- 12:48you were on move fast,
- 12:49lift heavy last year,
- 12:50fourth place at the games,
- 12:52three times inside the top 10.
- 12:54Like if anybody knows how to
- 12:56prepare a team, it would be Chloe.
- 13:00yeah I i love team I i and I
- 13:02get the bad rap and all the
- 13:04podcasts saying oh should
- 13:05we do away with teams and
- 13:07all that discussion but I
- 13:08truly think there are
- 13:09amazing athletes on the
- 13:11teams and I think it's
- 13:12often overlooked like as
- 13:14you said and I'm not trying
- 13:15to toot my own horn but I
- 13:17went to the games
- 13:17individually in 2018 which
- 13:19is considered one of the
- 13:20hardest years with one of
- 13:21the hardest first days
- 13:23And then I switched to team
- 13:24voluntarily and been in the top 10.
- 13:26So I think it's pretty easy
- 13:28to write off the team athletes,
- 13:29but I think,
- 13:30I think we can hang with the individuals.
- 13:32I just maybe think it's a
- 13:33different venue that we enjoy.
- 13:35Some athletes have done team
- 13:37all their life, basketball, volleyball,
- 13:39soccer, and they just like that stream.
- 13:41It doesn't necessarily mean
- 13:42you're a lesser athlete.
- 13:44It might just mean that you
- 13:45enjoy the team aspect.
- 13:46Like I love warm and I know
- 13:48people usually don't say that, but yeah,
- 13:50The feeling of being on a
- 13:51team and moving an object
- 13:52together and just being one
- 13:54symbiotic unit, I just love that feeling.
- 13:57And it doesn't almost come
- 13:59close to doing it alone.
- 14:00I just love the work.
- 14:03Is your athletic background
- 14:04in team sports?
- 14:06Ironically, no.
- 14:08Yes.
- 14:08Soccer.
- 14:09Yeah.
- 14:10Okay.
- 14:10Definitely.
- 14:11But my main, main, um,
- 14:13career was gymnast that the,
- 14:15the pair wet background,
- 14:16that's where it comes from.
- 14:17So the gymnastics really
- 14:18high level and did soccer
- 14:21as well on the side as my
- 14:22summer sport that I wanted to enjoy.
- 14:24So I did love soccer, but gymnastics,
- 14:26that individual sport was
- 14:27definitely it for me.
- 14:29And that's perhaps why I
- 14:30went 2018 individually.
- 14:32But then I just fell in love
- 14:34doing team once.
- 14:36I remember the first time I
- 14:37did pro one team,
- 14:38they invited me and they're like, okay,
- 14:40we're gonna do a worm
- 14:41workout from the games.
- 14:43This is the first workout
- 14:44ever that I've touched the worm.
- 14:46They're like,
- 14:46we just wanna see if you can hang.
- 14:48And I remember cleaning the
- 14:49worm and turning the wrong side,
- 14:51first rep.
- 14:53And I just go, okay,
- 14:55this is what it's going to be.
- 14:56But I mean, as we all do,
- 14:58we immediately fall in love
- 14:59with like the struggle and
- 15:00the want to be better.
- 15:01And then I was like, okay,
- 15:02I'm sold on team.
- 15:05So, you know,
- 15:06there is a lot of talk about that.
- 15:09What does team have a place?
- 15:11And, and I would contend that it's,
- 15:14it's great.
- 15:15It's just not great on an indoor venue.
- 15:17Like it gets,
- 15:18if the floor gets too packed
- 15:20and it gets confusing and,
- 15:22Like when it's outside,
- 15:24like when it was on North Park,
- 15:26like I thought it was awesome, right?
- 15:28Because you can see what
- 15:29teams wear and the story is
- 15:32easier to see.
- 15:33When you're in the Coliseum,
- 15:36everybody's jam-packed
- 15:37together and it's really
- 15:39hard to tell the story.
- 15:40And I think that's where
- 15:42CrossFit is missing the
- 15:43mark some in all of the
- 15:45aspects is they forget it
- 15:47needs to be a spectator sport.
- 15:50Yeah, I agree.
- 15:51I totally agree.
- 15:52I mean, I remember my mom telling me,
- 15:54sometimes I couldn't even
- 15:55find you on the floor.
- 15:56And I mean, that's my mom.
- 15:58It's hard to follow.
- 15:59I totally agree.
- 16:00And the camera work as well.
- 16:03Sometimes the cameramen and
- 16:04women don't know what's going on exactly.
- 16:06They haven't been briefed.
- 16:08So they're trying to catch
- 16:09the best stories,
- 16:10but they don't necessarily.
- 16:11I mean,
- 16:12CrossFit did do an effort going
- 16:13from six to four to have
- 16:15less athletes total on the floor.
- 16:18Does it mean we need to cut to three?
- 16:20I don't know.
- 16:21I'm talking out loud,
- 16:22but does it mean three?
- 16:23Does it mean, I mean,
- 16:24water Palooza just posted
- 16:26that there would be
- 16:26different styles of events
- 16:28on their team roster that
- 16:29they want to do.
- 16:30So it's like one relay,
- 16:32one specialty event.
- 16:34Like,
- 16:34is this a venue we can maybe go down
- 16:35where it's a little bit more predictable,
- 16:38but you can also get
- 16:38invested in watch and know
- 16:40what's coming up.
- 16:41Like, okay.
- 16:42Captains are going to go up.
- 16:43That means, you know,
- 16:44Fikowski is going to be against, you know,
- 16:46so-and-so.
- 16:47And maybe that way you can
- 16:48tell the athlete stories as
- 16:50well when they're going one-on-one.
- 16:52You could say, okay, Chloe,
- 16:53who's been to the games?
- 16:54And that story might be a
- 16:56little bit more interesting
- 16:57for people to jump in,
- 16:58especially with super teams like NOAA.
- 17:01Like now,
- 17:01like spectators want to follow
- 17:03those athletes that are
- 17:04transitioning to teams.
- 17:06So all great ideas,
- 17:07but we have to see what
- 17:09CrossFit wants to do.
- 17:10Yeah,
- 17:12and this wasn't supposed to be a team
- 17:13conversation,
- 17:14but I like some of the
- 17:17aspects of grid where you
- 17:19can have a specialist who
- 17:21can highlight what they do really,
- 17:23really well.
- 17:24And I think if you had a
- 17:26team where these two people
- 17:28take the floor for this event,
- 17:30these two people take it
- 17:31for another event,
- 17:32there are some four-person events,
- 17:34and you mix that up,
- 17:36I think it would go a long
- 17:38way to make the sport way
- 17:39more interesting.
- 17:40it doesn't mean it's grid it
- 17:42just means you're you're
- 17:44changing up the lineup
- 17:46occasionally yeah and
- 17:48highlighting as you said
- 17:49highlighting specialists
- 17:50like a tola like a gymnast
- 17:52absolutely you want to show
- 17:53that and show what the
- 17:54sport can do so you're
- 17:56really highlighting the
- 17:57maximum potential of each
- 17:59sphere like that pyramid
- 18:01like weightlifting
- 18:01gymnastics you're
- 18:02highlighting the pyramid
- 18:04individually within a team
- 18:06so it is still staying true to crossfit
- 18:09Like this weekend in Europe,
- 18:10you saw Andrea Soberg do
- 18:12the handstand run, right?
- 18:14Wouldn't it be cool that if
- 18:16she was on one team,
- 18:17Daniel Brandon's on another,
- 18:19and they go head-to-head in
- 18:20a handstand run, right?
- 18:22Like that's only good for the sport.
- 18:25Yes.
- 18:26And you can challenge them
- 18:27even more knowing you have
- 18:29that talent hitting the floor.
- 18:30You can really push the
- 18:32programming as well in the events because,
- 18:33you know,
- 18:34it's going to be specialists
- 18:35hitting the floor and
- 18:36you're not trying to cover the 40,
- 18:38the breadth of 40 athletes as well.
- 18:42Yeah.
- 18:43So back to you,
- 18:45you're listed as a proven athlete.
- 18:49So why the move to proven athletes?
- 18:52Yeah, actually, surprisingly,
- 18:54I've been with proven since 2021.
- 18:56Okay.
- 18:56Yeah.
- 18:58But that's okay.
- 18:59I don't think I,
- 19:00I don't really post a lot
- 19:01on Instagram necessarily, or I don't,
- 19:02I don't do it because I know,
- 19:04like I know Christian has
- 19:06his own like programming
- 19:08and stuff like that.
- 19:08And you're on a team together.
- 19:10You just make that assumption.
- 19:11You're doing his programming.
- 19:12Of course, which is, which is normal.
- 19:14It makes, it makes total sense.
- 19:16However,
- 19:16I live in Canada and they live in
- 19:18the U S so I,
- 19:20We would,
- 19:21I would take a flight and do a lot,
- 19:23a lot of traveling for that,
- 19:24which I was very happy to do.
- 19:26We were all really focused
- 19:27on podium and trying to go
- 19:29be that top three.
- 19:31But when I'm in my gym by myself,
- 19:33I'm not necessarily
- 19:34following their programming.
- 19:36Proven has known me a while
- 19:38and their type of
- 19:39programming as well suits me.
- 19:41I think that's the thing with Proven,
- 19:43Mayhem, hard work pays off.
- 19:45In my opinion,
- 19:46there's not necessarily a better program.
- 19:48I just think different
- 19:49programs will attack
- 19:50certain weaknesses or biases.
- 19:53And I think as an athlete,
- 19:54you need to find what are your biases and
- 19:56And find what program is
- 19:57really like highlighting
- 19:58and working on those biases.
- 20:00So for me,
- 20:01it's more strength and being
- 20:02consistent in that.
- 20:03And I've tried, ma'am,
- 20:04I've tried a few and proven
- 20:06was really somewhere that I
- 20:07felt I was consistently getting better,
- 20:10regardless of the style of
- 20:12programming that they would
- 20:13do year round.
- 20:14I would just keep getting better.
- 20:16So it just fit with me.
- 20:17Do you have a coach there?
- 20:19No, no.
- 20:21You're just doing the online programming.
- 20:23Exactly.
- 20:24You got it.
- 20:24No, no coach.
- 20:26I don't think I've ever had a coach.
- 20:28Nope.
- 20:28No, my entire career has been,
- 20:30I'll say coachless.
- 20:32I've had, I mean, nutrition coaches,
- 20:34but I've always done things by myself.
- 20:37I think that's something I'm proud of.
- 20:38I think it's pretty rare.
- 20:39I'm completely alone,
- 20:41adjusting some programming,
- 20:42some volume things,
- 20:43like of course proven
- 20:44writes down things and I'll check in.
- 20:46Um, but I need to adjust for myself.
- 20:49If a day you don't feel good
- 20:50just because it's written 90%,
- 20:52you're going to get injured if you do it.
- 20:53So it's been a lot of
- 20:55listening to myself and
- 20:56seeing how I feel day to
- 20:57day and then adjusting there.
- 21:00Are you still working as a teacher?
- 21:02Right now I'm contractless,
- 21:05but I do coach at my gym, but yes,
- 21:08I do teach.
- 21:09Um, by contract,
- 21:10I haven't yet been able to
- 21:11find a full-time positions of Quebec.
- 21:14I live in Quebec.
- 21:14It's very difficult.
- 21:16It can take up to five years
- 21:17to get your like permanency where you are,
- 21:19you know,
- 21:20every year you're going to have
- 21:21that class.
- 21:22So for now it's been
- 21:23contract work contacting, okay.
- 21:25Six months at this school, secondary level,
- 21:28primary level.
- 21:28I've been running around
- 21:30trying to find my permanency.
- 21:33So I don't know if you know this,
- 21:35but Carolyn Prevost is a
- 21:36co-host of mine on my show.
- 21:39And she's a teacher.
- 21:41She's a CrossFit Games athlete.
- 21:44She talks about how difficult it is.
- 21:47Not difficult,
- 21:48but it's just a different
- 21:49way of doing things because
- 21:51of her teaching schedule
- 21:53and trying to fit in
- 21:53working out and training
- 21:55and all of that stuff.
- 21:59Is that something you can
- 22:00commiserate with her on?
- 22:01Absolutely.
- 22:02Absolutely.
- 22:03Yeah.
- 22:03No, she's one of the,
- 22:05few left that are not full-time athletes.
- 22:08Even Europe,
- 22:09I was listening to the commentators,
- 22:10and you can hear, you know,
- 22:12so-and-so has made the
- 22:13switch to being a full-time athlete.
- 22:15So-and-so has switched,
- 22:16and this full year has a
- 22:18coach and is a full-time athlete.
- 22:20And I always think of the
- 22:22and of this world where I go, wow,
- 22:24that's amazing that they're
- 22:25at this level with the
- 22:27insane schedule that they
- 22:28have to maintain,
- 22:30where you have no choice
- 22:31but to sacrifice some of your recovery,
- 22:34Things come up, meetings,
- 22:36parent-teacher interviews.
- 22:37There's just things you can't move.
- 22:39You can ask for time off.
- 22:40And of course,
- 22:41they're going to adjust your schedule.
- 22:42But there's some things in
- 22:43the year that are just set
- 22:45and you have to do it.
- 22:45So the Pribos of this world
- 22:47are absolutely amazing.
- 22:48And they're showing that
- 22:50anything is possible.
- 22:51So as we say, no excuses.
- 22:54And she takes pride in that.
- 22:56She should.
- 22:57She absolutely should.
- 22:59And it's crazy, like her schedule,
- 23:00like she'll leave a
- 23:01semifinal right after it's
- 23:04done on Sunday to get back
- 23:05in time to teach on Monday.
- 23:07Yep.
- 23:08Like it's insane.
- 23:10So much respect for her.
- 23:12Exactly.
- 23:13No, it's amazing, but it's also inspiring.
- 23:16It's one thing to live it and to be proud,
- 23:19but it's also inspiring.
- 23:20Like I know a lot of people tell me, oh,
- 23:23I know I can do it because you do it.
- 23:25And you're an inspiration in
- 23:26the sense that you don't
- 23:27have to put all the eggs in
- 23:29one basket to necessarily
- 23:31be successful and to be
- 23:32able to push your body and
- 23:34do the amazing things that we do.
- 23:35And I know Prevost is even another level.
- 23:38She was doing hockey as well as teaching.
- 23:41Like I follow her.
- 23:42I know her.
- 23:43We're pretty close.
- 23:44It's fun.
- 23:45We write on Instagram.
- 23:46So like, I just can't believe it.
- 23:47She's absolutely amazing.
- 23:49And she deserves all the
- 23:50recognition that I think
- 23:51she doesn't necessarily get.
- 23:52So it's great that podcasts
- 23:54can really highlight that.
- 23:55Yeah,
- 23:56I love the fact that she came on as a
- 23:59co-host because she
- 24:00deserves more recognition
- 24:01for what she does.
- 24:03And hopefully that'll happen.
- 24:04And she knows the sport inside out,
- 24:06backwards, sideways,
- 24:08which is really cool.
- 24:09Back to you.
- 24:11Since you don't have a coach,
- 24:12who gets your coaches banned?
- 24:16My mom.
- 24:17Okay, didn't take care of.
- 24:21Yeah, it's, I mean, my mom and my dad,
- 24:23I'm super, super close.
- 24:24My family is, we're a very,
- 24:27very tight unit.
- 24:28So my boyfriend is on the pro one team.
- 24:30So it's going to be really a
- 24:31family affair.
- 24:32So my boyfriend's going to be on the team.
- 24:34He's going to be coaching
- 24:35him and the team and helping them out.
- 24:37My mom is going to have the coaches pass.
- 24:39My dad will be able to go
- 24:41down into the family section.
- 24:42So it's new at Synlica.
- 24:43We got the information at
- 24:45Syndicate that at the front line,
- 24:47it's going to be all the family access.
- 24:49So my dad's going to be down there.
- 24:50My mom's going to,
- 24:51carry my bags.
- 24:53Actually,
- 24:53my mom made semifinals this year
- 24:55in the 65 plus.
- 24:56So she's awesome.
- 24:58She's a pretty cool athlete.
- 24:59So yeah, we, uh, um, we follow the masters,
- 25:04um, and we're super,
- 25:05we love covering them.
- 25:07There's so many cool stories
- 25:08in the master's division.
- 25:09Yeah.
- 25:10Syndicate.
- 25:10One thing they do really
- 25:11well is that family section.
- 25:13Um, it's so cool.
- 25:17I didn't know I've been to Atlas games.
- 25:19I've been to Orlando, but I had this,
- 25:21my first experience at syndicate.
- 25:23So when I saw that section,
- 25:24I like screenshot it,
- 25:25sent it to my parents and said,
- 25:27I'm going to see you at the finish line.
- 25:29This means we're going to cry.
- 25:30Yeah.
- 25:31It's so cool.
- 25:32They do a great job with that.
- 25:34You've seen Europe and Asia
- 25:36go this weekend.
- 25:37Did you tune in to look and see what,
- 25:39what everything looked like
- 25:41or is that okay?
- 25:42Yeah.
- 25:43course firstly I tuned in
- 25:45for the team so I had my
- 25:46notebook out and was you
- 25:48know split times and like
- 25:49we didn't know that if you
- 25:50put the worm down it would
- 25:52be five burpee penalty that
- 25:53wasn't mentioned so we're
- 25:55really getting all the
- 25:56little details the little
- 25:58nuances of the workout that
- 26:00for myself the handstand
- 26:01walk will it be obstacle
- 26:03pirouette or just straight
- 26:04there and back so just
- 26:05looking especially at the
- 26:07flow since I don't have a
- 26:08coach looking at the flow,
- 26:10making sure everything is
- 26:11understood by the athlete.
- 26:13So it's a it's a two part
- 26:15process and then making sure that,
- 26:18you know, like, OK,
- 26:18what are the times this is what it is?
- 26:21OK,
- 26:22this means that that transitions a bit
- 26:23slower, faster and just
- 26:25looking at what I can change,
- 26:26but knowing that I'm going
- 26:28there to do my best, have fun.
- 26:30And that means not stressing
- 26:31over someone did 10 minutes.
- 26:33It's like, okay, awesome.
- 26:35Applaud.
- 26:36That's amazing.
- 26:37But I'm not trying to take
- 26:38too much of it into my
- 26:39heart because that's not
- 26:41going to help me on the floor.
- 26:43it's it's funny with all the
- 26:44athletes I've talked to
- 26:45through the semi-final
- 26:45series like sam quant says
- 26:48I he doesn't watch the full
- 26:49events it just too much
- 26:51pressure for him he'll
- 26:52watch to see like how an
- 26:54athlete his size handles
- 26:56this or what are the what
- 26:58are they holding on the row
- 27:00or and then he just turns
- 27:02it off and walks away
- 27:03Just gets the information
- 27:04he's trying to get and then he goes away.
- 27:07Carolyn is very different.
- 27:08She wants to see the whole thing.
- 27:10She wants to put a chip on her shoulder.
- 27:12She wants like all that stuff.
- 27:15So you are someone that it
- 27:17sounds like you're so into
- 27:18the strategy aspect of this
- 27:21that you just need to know all the data.
- 27:22Yeah, I'm definitely a data girl.
- 27:25Yeah.
- 27:26Definitely split times and
- 27:27transitions and things like that.
- 27:29I think it really helps me
- 27:31during the workout,
- 27:31especially when you're in
- 27:32the moment on the floor, the heart rate,
- 27:35the music.
- 27:36If you can just focus on the
- 27:38little tidbit informations
- 27:39that for me makes the stress easier.
- 27:41It's on the bike.
- 27:42What do you have to do on the bike?
- 27:44So I'm not thinking about the box.
- 27:46I'm thinking about what's
- 27:46happening on the bike.
- 27:47And then three steps jump.
- 27:50You know, are you going to chalk?
- 27:51Are you not going to chalk?
- 27:52Where are you going to chalk?
- 27:54So again,
- 27:54I don't mind giving my strategies
- 27:56because again, I'm having fun,
- 27:59but just trying to split.
- 28:00So when you go on the floor,
- 28:01it's just like an execution
- 28:02at this point.
- 28:03You're not saying, oh yeah,
- 28:04I should have talked.
- 28:05Well, it's not even a question for me.
- 28:07Everything is already mapped
- 28:08out and laid out in my brain.
- 28:11So, you know, the old saying,
- 28:12everybody has a plan until
- 28:13they get punched in the face.
- 28:15Does that ever happen to you?
- 28:20Anything is possible.
- 28:21And I would definitely say team.
- 28:22Team is where things get
- 28:24really interesting because
- 28:26it's a four person breakdown potential.
- 28:29So when you're by yourself,
- 28:30it's you might break down.
- 28:32But when you're four,
- 28:33it's knowing you might
- 28:34break down or the three
- 28:36others might break down at
- 28:37different times.
- 28:39And I think that's as a team,
- 28:40it's really important to
- 28:42step out of yourself.
- 28:44And actually,
- 28:44it's completely different
- 28:46than individually.
- 28:47So when I'm team,
- 28:48I'm actually outside of my body,
- 28:50only looking at the team.
- 28:51And I've been captain mostly in my team,
- 28:53except for move fast.
- 28:54It was Chris Harris.
- 28:56But during the program team,
- 28:57it's really about analyzing
- 28:59everybody else.
- 29:00OK, he's bent over.
- 29:01What does that mean?
- 29:02Her hands are on her knees.
- 29:03What does that mean?
- 29:04So I know my whole team and
- 29:05their body language.
- 29:06But individually,
- 29:07it's your own body language
- 29:09and how you're feeling.
- 29:10So, I mean,
- 29:10of course it's happened before.
- 29:112018, right?
- 29:13I was against Prevost.
- 29:15You probably know the story
- 29:16with the four point
- 29:17difference that I ended up qualifying,
- 29:20but I didn't even finish a
- 29:21legless rope climb event.
- 29:23So my legless rope climbs
- 29:24were not good at that time.
- 29:25And I just stood under the rope.
- 29:28I had like an 80 point gap.
- 29:30And Prevo and I at the end were like,
- 29:32we don't even know who, it was so tight.
- 29:34We didn't even know.
- 29:35And then four point
- 29:36difference made it that it was me.
- 29:38So I've been punched in the
- 29:39face a few times.
- 29:40Yeah.
- 29:42So, and,
- 29:43and what's funny is when I watched
- 29:46your seated legless at the
- 29:48games last year and going
- 29:49back to your Instagram,
- 29:50you had had an elbow
- 29:51surgery prior to that.
- 29:53And so I think your post was like,
- 29:55you were really worried
- 29:56about that aspect of it,
- 29:58but it went much easier
- 29:59than you even anticipated.
- 30:01Yeah, exactly.
- 30:02I think the one moment, actually,
- 30:04my mom asked me last year,
- 30:05what was your favorite
- 30:06moment of semi of the games?
- 30:08And it's a ridiculous moment,
- 30:09but I remember going on the mat,
- 30:11doing my seated legless last round.
- 30:14I'm against men and women coming down.
- 30:16And my dad has a photo.
- 30:17I'm the first off.
- 30:19I'm just standing,
- 30:19waiting for Chris to finish his ski,
- 30:21which makes sense.
- 30:22The ski was longer.
- 30:22And I'm just standing like,
- 30:25I finished my legless first.
- 30:28This is a huge accomplishment for me,
- 30:30which again, every athlete is different.
- 30:32I just remember that 2018
- 30:34looking at the rope,
- 30:36almost wanting to cry and
- 30:37now seated at the games on
- 30:40a crash mat and just crushing it.
- 30:42I mean, for me,
- 30:42that's the biggest win I
- 30:44could have as an athlete.
- 30:46Isn't it cool that like,
- 30:47whether you're an athlete,
- 30:48an average Joe in the gym
- 30:50or a CrossFit Games athlete,
- 30:52you can have those moments
- 30:54where you've overcome
- 30:55something and like the joy
- 30:58from that is just immense.
- 31:01Exactly right.
- 31:01CrossFit varies from degree, not kind.
- 31:04It's the same thing for that.
- 31:05I mean,
- 31:06ringing the bell of a PR from the
- 31:08empty bar to the legless is
- 31:10that same exact feeling.
- 31:11And it's just awesome.
- 31:13And getting the athlete that
- 31:14I coach to understand that
- 31:16at first nobody wants to ring the bell.
- 31:17I'm like, go ring the bell.
- 31:18And they're like, I just did a box jump.
- 31:21Like, yeah,
- 31:21you've been trying for three months.
- 31:23Oh, but it's, it's not like you.
- 31:25And I'm like, it is like me.
- 31:27It's the same thing.
- 31:28You're not leaving the gym
- 31:29until you ring the bell.
- 31:31And then like, once they do it,
- 31:32they get it.
- 31:32And everybody claps in the gym.
- 31:34And it's just,
- 31:35it's such a wonderful thing that,
- 31:37My mom's favorite sentence, as you can see,
- 31:39I speak often about my mom,
- 31:41but I see her every day in
- 31:42the gym and she says,
- 31:43CrossFit gets me in tune
- 31:46with my own like superpower,
- 31:47my own superhuman.
- 31:50She's like,
- 31:50I would have never been on my
- 31:51hands in another place in my life.
- 31:53And now CrossFit,
- 31:54I'm doing handstand pushups.
- 31:56It's like your own
- 31:57extraordinariness is
- 31:58discovered through CrossFit.
- 31:59It's just, it's so beautiful.
- 32:01Yeah.
- 32:02And it makes it,
- 32:03it makes the sport so
- 32:04relatable to anybody who
- 32:05walks into a box.
- 32:08Because they can watch and go, oh my gosh,
- 32:10they PR'd.
- 32:11I know that feeling.
- 32:13Yep.
- 32:14Yep.
- 32:14That's, that's why the lifting event,
- 32:16in my opinion,
- 32:17gets the most like crowd
- 32:19going crazy because
- 32:21everybody can identify with that.
- 32:24Like, yes, of course,
- 32:25workouts are workouts,
- 32:26but the crowd gets fired up
- 32:28because they know stepping
- 32:29up to the bar hand to hand.
- 32:31And like just the rush that you get,
- 32:34everybody can identify with that.
- 32:35And I think that's why those
- 32:36lifting events just get the crowd going.
- 32:38It's just wild.
- 32:39I can't wait for that event.
- 32:41Well, and that's what I want to,
- 32:42I kind of want to end on is you're OG.
- 32:45So you did the snatch ladder
- 32:48in 2016 at regionals.
- 32:52Now you get to redo it.
- 32:53How excited are you to see
- 32:55how far you've come from 2016 to today?
- 33:00Yeah, I saw known and knowable, right?
- 33:02Mark Halpin,
- 33:03he posted which athletes had
- 33:04done it in 2016.
- 33:05And I was like, wow, okay,
- 33:07there's not that many
- 33:08athletes left that had
- 33:09taken on that 2016 ladder.
- 33:11I mean, for me, it's more redemption.
- 33:13I think that's gonna be the
- 33:15word to associate with
- 33:16Chloe's redemption because
- 33:17my elbow surgery was that
- 33:19year and it was snatches.
- 33:22And I snapped my elbow on a snatch.
- 33:25So that 2016 was really, really,
- 33:29really rough.
- 33:30I finished the ladder,
- 33:31which already is amazing
- 33:33with that torn elbow.
- 33:34And I just remember going
- 33:36through it saying, okay,
- 33:38I hope I'll be okay.
- 33:40I hope I'll be okay.
- 33:41I finished it and I was so proud.
- 33:43And this year it's about attacking it.
- 33:46It's such a different,
- 33:47completely different vibe.
- 33:48Now it's how many seconds can I save?
- 33:51How am I going to walk to the bar?
- 33:52So back to strategy,
- 33:53but just that mindset
- 33:54difference just shows the
- 33:56difference that we've
- 33:57evolved in CrossFit.
- 33:58Just watching the Europe.
- 33:59It was amazing to see the,
- 34:01all the times fall and
- 34:02seeing the huge difference
- 34:04between Matt Frazier.
- 34:05They showed him doing it.
- 34:06And then today.
- 34:08It's amazing.
- 34:08So I can't wait to just do
- 34:09it and then have that
- 34:11thought of remembering, wow,
- 34:13I was scared to do it.
- 34:14And now I'm just like crushing it.
- 34:16It's awesome.
- 34:17So what's more impressive
- 34:19that Matt Fraser's record
- 34:21got beat by 30 seconds or
- 34:24that only three people beat
- 34:25Matt Fraser eight years later?
- 34:29Definitely Matt Frazier 2016.
- 34:30I mean, there's not even a contest.
- 34:33There's not even a contest.
- 34:35I mean, that was just, I was in the East,
- 34:38right?
- 34:38I was in the venue when he did it.
- 34:41And I remember just
- 34:41everybody was just jaw dropped.
- 34:44Nobody even knew what to say
- 34:45at that point.
- 34:45It was so amazing.
- 34:47But definitely watching
- 34:48Europe do it is awesome.
- 34:49But you just remember how
- 34:50amazing Matt Frazier was at what he does.
- 34:53And I feel like, hey,
- 34:54we should have rolled out a barbell.
- 34:55He was there.
- 34:56We should have asked him to do it.
- 34:57Yeah.
- 34:58Just kidding.
- 34:58Just kidding.
- 34:59So everybody's been saying like in 16,
- 35:03it was the first event.
- 35:05Yes.
- 35:05This year it's the fifth
- 35:07event and people are like,
- 35:08people are going to be tired,
- 35:09not sure about the times.
- 35:12And then world records get
- 35:13broke on both sides of the table.
- 35:16And Elisa Fuliano out of
- 35:19nowhere wins that event and
- 35:22breaks the record by a lot.
- 35:27Yeah,
- 35:27it was definitely her two bars at one
- 35:3175 where I think those were the fastest,
- 35:33almost doubles that she hit
- 35:34through the whole cycle.
- 35:36She rolled the bar.
- 35:37And I even remember when
- 35:38they were talking about Laura, they said,
- 35:39Elisa Foliano,
- 35:41she loaded that barbell and
- 35:42hit two bars in,
- 35:43I think he said like eight, 40,
- 35:4530 seconds,
- 35:46which is huge when we're
- 35:48talking about so close to your,
- 35:49so close to your PR.
- 35:51That was the most impressive
- 35:52moment watching her is just
- 35:53doing that double so fast
- 35:55under that fatigue, the stress.
- 35:57And like you said, fifth event in,
- 35:58it was just amazing.
- 36:00Yeah, I think, you know,
- 36:02if you've CrossFitted for any time at all,
- 36:04you hear the term smooth as fast.
- 36:07And if you look that up,
- 36:08I think her take on that
- 36:11ladder was smooth as fast.
- 36:14Absolutely.
- 36:15Absolutely.
- 36:15She just, she flew without being panicked,
- 36:18without, it was just bar, bar, bar.
- 36:21And the speed at which she
- 36:23would exit the overhead
- 36:24squat for me was the
- 36:25biggest indicator she caught.
- 36:27But the speed out of the squat,
- 36:29even at 135, I was like, okay,
- 36:31this is another level.
- 36:32Yeah.
- 36:35So let's finish up with this.
- 36:38I know you're just there to have fun.
- 36:41And your goal is just to, to do the best,
- 36:44have the best weekend you can have.
- 36:46Right.
- 36:46Yeah.
- 36:48Um, any other goals for the weekend?
- 36:52Yeah, I would firstly say,
- 36:55and I know this is probably
- 36:57not the answer you want, but the team,
- 36:58I really want the team to qualify.
- 37:01We've put so much energy and
- 37:02time that that's really what I'm,
- 37:04I'll be the happiest the
- 37:06moment they qualify.
- 37:06And it's great because
- 37:07Saturday they're done.
- 37:09So Saturday it's done.
- 37:11They get to qualify.
- 37:12We move on.
- 37:13And then Sunday I get to
- 37:14tackle on half of the events, right?
- 37:16It's moving Sunday.
- 37:17It's not moving Saturday this year.
- 37:20And I think using that Sunday to enjoy.
- 37:22I think Friday and Saturday,
- 37:24I'll be really focused, team myself,
- 37:26team myself.
- 37:28And then Sunday,
- 37:29I'll get to really just
- 37:30take on those three events
- 37:31with having only my focus
- 37:33and having them be in the
- 37:34stands and cheer me on.
- 37:35So I really want to take
- 37:36those three next events,
- 37:37and those are my best, I would say,
- 37:39more of the inverted shoulder stamina,
- 37:41which is more what I'm known for.
- 37:44So taking those on with a sense of urgency,
- 37:47being able to compete those
- 37:48last three events,
- 37:49I'll be satisfied knowing I
- 37:51went in with a little bit of hunger.
- 37:54That's what I'll be
- 37:55satisfied knowing at the
- 37:56end of the weekend.
- 37:58I'm really bad at keeping
- 37:59these to 30 minutes,
- 38:00but you bring up one point.
- 38:02You bring up one point.
- 38:04And then we'll let you go.
- 38:05Yeah, absolutely.
- 38:06No problem.
- 38:07All the years you've been doing regionals,
- 38:10semifinals,
- 38:11that half the events are on the last day.
- 38:16That is something completely unique.
- 38:19And it seemed to play a
- 38:21pretty big role in Europe
- 38:23and Asia where that last
- 38:25event people just were wore out.
- 38:30In your strategy and in your notes,
- 38:32I'm sure you've taken stuff
- 38:33down about that on Sunday.
- 38:35How do you prepare to be
- 38:37fueled and be able to get
- 38:39through all those events?
- 38:39Or is that games experience
- 38:42where things like that
- 38:43happen help you in this?
- 38:46Yeah, no,
- 38:47that's definitely a good question.
- 38:48I would definitely say the
- 38:50experience helps.
- 38:51I've been fueling and
- 38:53preparing and living those
- 38:55long weekends since, let's say, 2015,
- 38:57which is my first regionals.
- 38:59So I would definitely say
- 39:00just using experience.
- 39:02I know what foods agree with me,
- 39:04what gives me the best fuel, how I feel,
- 39:07how I perform.
- 39:09I also lived the 2018 first
- 39:10day with the marathon row.
- 39:11I definitely learned how to fuel.
- 39:14That was definitely a
- 39:16learning experience for myself.
- 39:17So I would definitely say
- 39:19earlier is better.
- 39:20I think even the week of,
- 39:22I'm already preparing.
- 39:23So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 39:25there was already some fueling tactics,
- 39:27some carb loading and et cetera.
- 39:29Then obviously after the run,
- 39:30what do you need after a
- 39:32long run versus what do you
- 39:33need after like a short event?
- 39:35So really focusing on that
- 39:36is definitely super important.
- 39:39But definitely thinking earlier.
- 39:41I think athletes wait the day to day.
- 39:43It's like, okay, I'll take my BCAs.
- 39:44I'll take my stuff after.
- 39:46But thinking earlier than that.
- 39:49You should almost be
- 39:49entering your first day
- 39:52feeling almost too full,
- 39:54too really like fueled.
- 39:57And then letting that ride
- 39:58out towards your Sunday and
- 40:00definitely sleep.
- 40:01Sleep, sleep, sleep,
- 40:03sleep is the... For rookies,
- 40:05I remember my first year, you can't sleep,
- 40:08you're tossing and turning.
- 40:09So finding strategies to be
- 40:10able to sleep and turn off is huge, huge.
- 40:16Well, Chloe,
- 40:17I cannot express how much fun
- 40:18this has been getting to chat with you.
- 40:21Thank you.
- 40:23I love the way your mind works.
- 40:24I love the way that you explain things.
- 40:27This has been a blast.
- 40:29Thank you so much.
- 40:32I haven't had many opportunities.
- 40:33I really appreciate it.
- 40:34When you reached out,
- 40:35I was so excited to do it.
- 40:36So thank you for thinking of me,
- 40:38even as a retired athlete.
- 40:41With that, I don't think you're retired,
- 40:44but that's okay.
- 40:45Call it whatever you will.
- 40:47Thank you to everybody in
- 40:48the chat for being here.
- 40:48This has been a blast.
- 40:50Thank you to Chloe for doing this.
- 40:52And we'll see everybody next
- 40:53time on the Clydesdale Media Podcast,
- 40:56where we are featuring the
- 40:56athletes of the 2024
- 40:58CrossFit Games Semifinals.
- 41:00Thank you, everybody.
- 41:01See you.
