- 0:00[ on-hold music] Welcome back to The Most Important Question Today, where in just a couple minutes or less, we apply the Actually Pro-Life Principles to a news headline and then help you answer the most important question, "What can I do?"
- 0:18[ on-hold music] Hey, I was wondering if you've had the do not rape conversation with your son or nephew or grandson or
- 0:37student or, you know, employee, whatever. Doesn't matter. Pick one and, and do that because here is the thing. Shane Gillis didn't
- 0:48rape anyone on SNL, you know, during his monologue, but he didn't make it any better, you know? So did he meet the threshold of do not rape? Sure. Should we aim higher? I, I think so.
- 1:00I don't think it's-- it's not complicated, you know? Here's the thing. We can do better, I think, than the standard that
- 1:08organized religion has set in the West, which is basically like, "Don't kill or do these three other things, and then you're pretty much good while you're here. You know? After that, you're taken care of.
- 1:21Everything's fine." I really do believe we can aim higher, like measurably. So do not rape, obviously. If you get a Snapchat from your friends inviting you to rape, say no. Or you could aim higher.
- 1:35If you get a Snapchat from your friends inviting you to rape, call the police. If you get invited to be in a Snapchat or a text thread or whatever with some people who might rape someday,
- 1:47don't participate in that, or call them fucking creeps or, or whatever it could be. There's a lot we can do, right? We cannot fucking settle here. Actually Pro-Life means actually, right? Here's things you could do.
- 2:01If you live in Virginia, you could vote for Amendment 1 right now. Pretty amazing. Early voting has already started, and election day is in a few weeks.
- 2:09You might live in one of the 30 states that still lets kids get married. Wow. Yeah. Call your state rep and say it needs to be 18, no exceptions.
- 2:19You could, you could look up your state on Guttmacher's sex ed table, and if consent isn't listed there, email your rep and say, "What the fuck?"
- 2:27And of course, if your state is still one of the ones that taxes pads and tampons, again, give a shout to the Alliance for Period Supplies. They're great.
- 2:35And you could send them-- you could use their website to send a letter to your legislator because what the fuck? Have the talk. Set a floor. Set a higher floor. And remember, there is no ceiling.
- 2:46Actually Pro-Life means doing the things that are measurably improving the life of people, especially disadvantaged people, especially people who are made vulnerable by these systems and by the people who keep enforcing these systems.
- 3:00[ on-hold music] Thanks for listening. Subscribe for more of these and for my longer conversations with incredible humans who've already asked and answered the most important question for themselves.
