- 0:00This is welcome back to After Maharim, your favorite share our
- 0:06podcast. As you know, last week we had a
- 0:09fascinating and very interesting discussion on the event of
- 0:12Ghadir. And these are the days where we
- 0:14commemorate and we celebrate the Alabama Salaam.
- 0:16And we remember the Thakala Quran and the Alabait, which
- 0:19ultimately the Holy Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhav
- 0:22Salam left behind to us to connect to a last panel to Allah
- 0:26and of course to follow in his footsteps.
- 0:29So these are the days among sisters where we connect with
- 0:31the athletes and the holy of Quran.
- 0:33We are entering now the days of Muhammad.
- 0:35And I want to begin this holy and blessed season with a
- 0:38message of condolence, firstly to the Imam of our time, Imam
- 0:41Haji al Jalala, to Alafaji Sharif and of course, secondly,
- 0:44of course, brothers and sisters yourselves, to the whole Ummah.
- 0:47These are the days where mourning takes precedent in our
- 0:49lives. We're gathering together as a
- 0:51congregation in our mourning and our commemoration for the Holy
- 0:55Imam Ali Salam is so important to us, so critical to our
- 0:58identity and our faith. So today, insha'allah, we want
- 1:02to begin this blessed season as we approach and enter it with an
- 1:05understanding as to why we mourn in the 1st place.
- 1:08What about Muharram and what about Imam Hussain Ali Salaam's
- 1:12message, his vision, his journey, his legacy is so
- 1:16important to us not just when we look at the historical
- 1:19perspective but also from a a Kaddi perspective, a belief
- 1:22system for us as Muslims and why we feel it is compulsory on us
- 1:27to mourn the death of Imam for saying Islam.
- 1:30So as always, it is not a podcast without my other half
- 1:36and that is none other than Sir Ali and other is someone.
- 1:49It's a pleasure to be beside you week after week.
- 1:56And I think now it's been, I think close to very soon, 100
- 2:00episodes. And as you mentioned,
- 2:01approaching the sorrowful month of Muharram.
- 2:05And, you know, I'm just now speaking about it.
- 2:08I can just imagine the atmosphere and the emotion that
- 2:11millions and millions of Shiite will experience in the next few
- 2:15days. And, and, and it just, you know,
- 2:16gives me the vibe that Muharram is here.
- 2:22That means the blackness to go up.
- 2:24Muharram is here. That means, you know, the, the,
- 2:28the season of Aza, the season of Mosa, the season of tears, the
- 2:31season of emotion as well as you know, we always remember as we
- 2:35approach the month of Muharram, the blessed words of Rasul Allah
- 2:39when he, when he speaks about his beloved grandson, Imam
- 2:41Hossein Imam about Abdullah, where he says Hussein in Minni
- 2:45and Hussein, what does that mean?
- 2:49That means if we're crying and we're mourning and we're
- 2:52lamenting Imam Hossein, ultimately we are doing this
- 2:54with Rasul Allah. And we remember the tears that
- 2:57were shed between Rasul Allah and Lady Fatwa Alihah Salaam.
- 3:02When, when he informs her of what will happen to her beloved
- 3:06son, Imam and Hussein on the day of Al Shura where she tells him,
- 3:09you know, Abataya Rasul Allah, will this happen during my
- 3:13lifetime, our lifetime? And he tells her, no, this will
- 3:16happen during when I am gone, when you're gone, when Imam Ali
- 3:21is gone, when Al Hassan and Mushka was gone and Hussein will
- 3:24be Gharib, he will be alone. And just think about that.
- 3:27Imam and Hussein, the grandson of Rasul Allah, is Gharib on the
- 3:30plains of Karbala. But then he consoles his
- 3:34daughter and he tells her, don't worry, because she tells him if
- 3:37we're not here, who's going to mourn for him?
- 3:39Who's going to cry for him? Who's going to remember him?
- 3:42And he tells her, you know, Fatima Allah Subhana, what
- 3:46Ta'ala will create Shia that will mourn for him, Shia that
- 3:51will cry for him, and Shia that will remember and echo the words
- 3:55of Imam and Hussain and the tragedy of Karbala in every
- 3:58single generation. And think about it, we are part
- 4:01of the hadith like when we hear things like that and then we go
- 4:04to a mention list or you know, we think about the tragedy of
- 4:09Karbala and it gives us tears. Or we think about certain
- 4:11moments that took place on the plains of Karbala and that what
- 4:16does that do? That plays with our heart.
- 4:18And you know that heartstring to know that Habbalam and Haba
- 4:22Hussaina, that love brought that that bond, that feeling, that
- 4:25attachment that you have with Imam and Hussain.
- 4:28Well, it gives me great pleasure to say I know Allah Subhanahu
- 4:31Ta'ala can love me Abalam and ABBA Hussaina.
- 4:34Who doesn't want to be loved by God?
- 4:35And this is the month, Insha Allah, where we remember Imam
- 4:39and Hussain and we are a few days away.
- 4:40How do you feel? Yeah, I feel, I feel, I feel the
- 4:45same way. I feel like it's really hitting
- 4:46hard, like you said, when you see the Sawad, the black clothes
- 4:50go up on the walls and the the environment around you changes.
- 4:54You take out your black clothes, you start looking for the
- 4:58Majalis, planning your day around in the week around the
- 5:01Majalis and you for for many of us handle like we even start
- 5:06preparing and hosting majalis in our homes in our community
- 5:09centres. It's an honour, like you said,
- 5:11to be a part of that tradition of Azhar of, of Majalis and that
- 5:15is incumbent upon us. And like I said earlier, I, I
- 5:18believe this, it's, it's more than just a theological thing or
- 5:23historical thing. It's an Akadi thing in the sense
- 5:25that it is a core belief for us in our belief systems.
- 5:30When we talk about a dialogue, when we talk about Imam, even of
- 5:33course you could discuss, you know, the Nabul of Salam Ahmed
- 5:37sallallahu alaihi walu Salam, everything ties in everything
- 5:41ties in every event that happened in the lives of the
- 5:44Ayam. Ayam Salam was so pivotal in
- 5:48paving the the will of Allah. You know, the what God had
- 5:53planned ultimately happened. Nothing happens without God's
- 5:56will. So a lot of people ask at this
- 5:59juncture, just before the 10 nights begin, why did Imam
- 6:03Hussein go to Karbala? Why did he not just give beta to
- 6:09Yazeed Latuntallah Ali? What was it about Imam Hussein
- 6:13which made him stand up? You know what was it?
- 6:18Was he a different type of man to the other Imams?
- 6:21Was he a different type of Imam or a leader?
- 6:23I think the Imams are very consistent because like we said,
- 6:27for them the belief system is such.
- 6:29It's not a personality thing or an opinion based thing.
- 6:32The belief system was consistent and all of the Imams in our
- 6:36third Imams position would have done the same thing.
- 6:38And that is to stand up against Yazid.
- 6:40Lantalla Ali. There's a lot of things we can
- 6:42talk about. The last thing I want to say
- 6:45before I hand back to you is a lot of the time we hear in the
- 6:49Sunni community differing views about the death of mum Hussein E
- 6:54Islam, his his beloved family and companions.
- 6:57And we have the classical and traditional scholars, for
- 7:00example, Sayuti, for example, who says you can do Latin on
- 7:04Yazid, for example, for being the killer of Imam Hussein,
- 7:08Latin on Yazeed. Then you have, for example,
- 7:11Ahmedabad bin Hambal who said you can do it, but it's not
- 7:15advised, it's precautionary not to do it, better not to do it,
- 7:18but he was the killer of Imam Hussein.
- 7:20Then you have, for example, other scholars who not only say
- 7:25you can't do Latin, but go to the extent, even contemporary
- 7:28scholars who say you should praise Yazid or not blame Yazid.
- 7:33Zaka Naik from India, he says Yazid Radi Allahu and which I
- 7:39can't get my head around. Yasir Qadhi of course from the
- 7:42USA who's a well revered scholar within the Sunni world.
- 7:47He says Yazid was not responsible for the death of
- 7:51Imam Hussein Alayhi Salaam and that it should be blamed upon
- 7:56the ones who themselves carried out the act of killing of the
- 8:00holy Imam. Now I've I've got a few points
- 8:04on this but I want to get your thoughts and what you think on.
- 8:07This I'm glad you mentioned those points because I think
- 8:09they're going to be very relevant in the discussion that
- 8:11we're going to have here, Ahmed. And I just want to go back a
- 8:14little because you mentioned just before you raised the
- 8:18examples of those who Revere Yazid or those who say, you
- 8:22know, rather Allah. And I think the mercy of Allah
- 8:26is far away from a man like Yazid.
- 8:29And to know why Imam Hussain went to Karbala.
- 8:33Yeah. I think just very briefly here
- 8:34before I speak about Yaziz because I think I want to
- 8:37dedicate a few minutes here. Is that Imam Hussain, you know,
- 8:42had a God-given mission, if I can say, And this was to revive
- 8:47and restore the pristine teachings.
- 8:50The son of his grandfather, Muhammad Rasul Allah sallallahu
- 8:53alaihi alaihi wasallam. So that was his mission and that
- 8:56was his journey, and that's what he was heading towards.
- 8:58Yeah. The problem is Yazid came in his
- 9:00way where he wanted the baia of Imam Hussein Alihis Salaam.
- 9:06Now, why wouldn't Imam Hussein give baia to a man like Yazid?
- 9:10Yeah. You know, very famously he says
- 9:12a few lines when I think before we, we, we, we go there.
- 9:15Let's just talk about Yazid for a little.
- 9:16Yazid, it's not your normal human being.
- 9:21He's not your normal caliph. He's not your normal leader.
- 9:24Yani, he's not even, I think, an average Muslim, of course of.
- 9:28Course, far away from it. Yani.
- 9:30If, if, if I can say Yani, what virtues does he have?
- 9:34He's got 3 Shaitan, evil, corruption.
- 9:38There's there's nothing else when it when it comes to Yazid
- 9:40in Mahavia, where Imam Hussein will later on go on to say
- 9:44mithli la ybayo mythlec that a man like me will never give BAE.
- 9:50I will never give allegiance to a man like you.
- 9:54Like when you hear that as a Muslim, like you hear one side
- 9:57saying Yazid rather Allahu'an and then you hear the other side
- 10:02for saying I hate to use it rather allahu'an because it's
- 10:05alayhi Salaam. You, you got to understand
- 10:09something. Yeah.
- 10:10I I think this is where I want to take the conversation.
- 10:13I think throughout today's discussion, but what happens
- 10:19when the grandson of Rasul Allah says, I'm not going to give baia
- 10:22to the one who claims to be representing Rasul Allah?
- 10:26I think there's a, there's a number of things that happen
- 10:28here. There's you can look at it from
- 10:29the lens of Hakan Bakan that Imam Hussein does not want to
- 10:32mix truth with falsehood. Imam Hussein doesn't want to mix
- 10:38the purification of the Ehil bait with the impurities of
- 10:41Yazid. There are so much ways that 111
- 10:45can take this conversation. But when, when I say to you
- 10:48Yazid or when I say to you Hussain, what is one thing that
- 10:52stands out as a Muslim, I don't want, I don't want you to talk
- 10:56as a Shiite if someone tells you Yazid, Radiallahu and and
- 10:59Hussain. What do you mean one thing that
- 11:01stands out? How can they both be Radiallahu
- 11:03and? Of course they force impossible.
- 11:05Yeah, it it doesn't make sense. They, they, they, they, they
- 11:09repel one another, you know, and they, they are opposites to one
- 11:12another. You know when the companion
- 11:15Minhal came to Imam Sajjad Ali Salam in Sham and he says to
- 11:20you, what are your thoughts on Yazid?
- 11:26He asked him Mam Sajal Islam referenced Surat Al Casas
- 11:30Chapter 28 verse #4 where last panel to Allah talks about
- 11:34Pharaon and the translation reads Pharaon has become high
- 11:39handed in the land. He has divided its people into
- 11:42different groups. He used to persecute a group of
- 11:44them slaughtering their sons and keeping their women alive.
- 11:47Indeed he is one of the mischief makers.
- 11:49This is very important because alas, Panetta Allah is talking
- 11:52about the comparison. Well, alas, Panetta, Allah's
- 11:55talking about Ferrone and the Mamas.
- 11:56Sajad Islam, who is the son of Revelation, the son of divinity
- 12:00in the sense of the divine Revelation himself is making a
- 12:04parallel between Ferrone as a mischief maker, as a persecutor,
- 12:09as oppressor, as one who slaughters the young men and
- 12:13keeps women separately, between that and Yazid.
- 12:16And then for those today to say no, but Imam Hussein is Salaam,
- 12:20you never know, maybe maybe he forgave, maybe his his his
- 12:24family forgave Yazid. Maybe Yazid asked for Toba,
- 12:27maybe asked for repentance. The one who pokes the head of
- 12:31Imam with a stick, will that person ever have softness in his
- 12:35heart to seek repentance from the last one or to Allah?
- 12:38When Allah makes a verse about Fedahon calling him a mischief
- 12:42maker? The one who persecuted people,
- 12:44split people, the one who killed the babies and kept the women
- 12:48separately and Imam Sajjad Ali Islam is comparing that man to
- 12:53Yazid Ali. Is there any doubt?
- 12:56Is there any shock or hesitation in comparing them?
- 13:00Look at the parallels between these two individuals.
- 13:03The the validity of Yazid's position is Khalafa in itself is
- 13:08questioned because there was corruption on a number of
- 13:11levels. There was like a political
- 13:14corruption in the sense that it was hereditary succession.
- 13:17Yazid became Khalafa through successorship of his father,
- 13:22through inheritance of Khalafa through his father.
- 13:26That in itself invalidates his argument.
- 13:29He then consolidated power by persecuting individuals.
- 13:33He silenced them, he intimidated them, he coerced them into doing
- 13:37things from a moral and an ethical perspective.
- 13:41We, we reject his Khalafa, okay. He publicly disregarded Islamic
- 13:45values, Islamic laws. He was known for his indulgence
- 13:49in alcohol, in gambling and other kind of UN Islamic and
- 13:53unethical acts. He was harsh in his treatments
- 13:56to his opponents. He was known to assassinate
- 13:58people who spoke up or anyone who practiced dissent.
- 14:01He'd exploit people. He would steal money.
- 14:04These were things that generally was was anti Islam and
- 14:09everything that was Islam was embodied by Ahlad Beit Alayhi
- 14:13Musalam and at the time the hijab on earth.
- 14:16The Imam on the earth was Imam Hussein Ali Salam and everything
- 14:22that Imam Hussein believed in, Yazeed did the opposite of and
- 14:25vice versa. We believe as Shia Muslims that
- 14:28Yazeed was a kafir. We believe he was a kafir.
- 14:31We don't believe that his father who unfortunately we reject as
- 14:34well, but we don't believe that him being the son of someone who
- 14:37others call Sahaba, you know, just because the father was
- 14:41someone who was in contact with the suallah does not validate
- 14:45Yazid in in his khalafa in. Itself and just this point of
- 14:48Yazid being a kafir, just like in case anyone is wondering,
- 14:52very famously, historically it's narrated, you know, after the
- 14:55events of Karbala and Sham and his palace.
- 14:58He goes along to say the lines of there was no wahi that came
- 15:03to Muhammad and there was never any revelation that came down.
- 15:08It just goes to. Show you.
- 15:09Yeah, yeah. That he rejects, and he rejects
- 15:12Muhammad. He said, he said the Hashemites
- 15:14played with the Hashemites played with authority, like like
- 15:20a Kingdom and like a ruler, which tells me as someone
- 15:25logically thinking about it, my rationale tells me that he's
- 15:28saying he's saying the Hashemites played with
- 15:30authority, like a ruler with his Kingdom.
- 15:34That means that you don't believe that this is a divine
- 15:37appointment by God, which therefore means you don't
- 15:39believe in Muhammad al Allah, which therefore means you don't
- 15:42believe in that Ilahallah through rationale.
- 15:45So it's you know you in your you through your statement have
- 15:48negated your own belief. And I think even back to the
- 15:51point of mythly Liya by a myth like a man like me will never
- 15:54give allegiance to a man like you.
- 15:56And I think another comparison will be very nice.
- 15:57I think this combo, now we're talking about, you know, that we
- 16:02don't Revere him or his father. It's just compare the two family
- 16:05trees. Look, look, look at Yazid.
- 16:08So first of all, we have Abu Sufyan plus Hind plus Mahalia
- 16:12Ikos, Yazid Ibn Mahalia. Wow.
- 16:15So we have Hind who ate the liver of Hamza.
- 16:19We have Mahalia, who was an enemy to Imam Ali.
- 16:23That's an understatement. Go look at Sophine and I think
- 16:26it goes more way beyond Sophine. And then and now you have Yazid
- 16:30bin Mahaya very clearly who was against the family of Rasul
- 16:33Allah, killing the grandson of Rasul Allah.
- 16:38The point I want to make is that if we really want to compare
- 16:41rather Allahu and to Yazid and Alayhis Salaam to Imam Hussain.
- 16:46I just spoke about this tree. Now let's come to this tree.
- 16:48Hussain, the beloved grandson of Rasul Allah, the brother of Imam
- 16:53Al Hassan and Musharraf Al Karim al Elbait, his mother Fatima
- 16:56Tazarah say that in Assad Al Amin, his father, the commander
- 16:59of the faithful Prince of believers Emir Al Mamanian, his
- 17:02grandfather Rasul Allah Muhammad Sallallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
- 17:05How can a man like Hussein give baia to a man?
- 17:10Like so let me ask you a question.
- 17:11Let me ask you a question. OK, So a lot of people will
- 17:13agree thus far they will say I understand why Yazid was was
- 17:19despicable, deplorable. And then you have I understand
- 17:22why Hussein Ibn Ali Ali Salam was holy and purified.
- 17:26But why did Imam and Hussein a have to go to Karbala?
- 17:32Why did he leave his Hajj and and B why did he take those with
- 17:37him? Why did he allow himself to be
- 17:40sacrificed when he could continue to live on as the Imam
- 17:43and to guide the people and to lead the ummah?
- 17:45Why did he give his life when he could have just, you know, said
- 17:50for the greater good I will give beta.
- 17:51What are your thoughts? And I I know we've spoken about
- 17:55beta quite a lot here. And you you just beta is the
- 17:58core. Of it, it is technically it
- 18:01should be because it makes you understand why Imam Hussain went
- 18:05on embarked on his journey towards Karbala because the
- 18:09reason he ended up at Karbala was all because of this beta
- 18:11issue. Yeah, Yazid sent his hench men
- 18:14to go get baia from Imam Hussein.
- 18:16And if he doesn't give baia, then kill him and behead him.
- 18:19He even went as far as to say even if Imam Hussein is on the
- 18:23Jedar of the cabin, he's in the the sacred land of Mecca, he's
- 18:28in the sacred House of God and he doesn't give baia.
- 18:32Bring his head to me. He went to that.
- 18:34He went that far. And then when that news, when
- 18:37that news reached the son of Fafim, Imam Hussein Ali Salam,
- 18:40he said I have to leave Hajj. He left early.
- 18:42He didn't complete his full Hajj, did he?
- 18:44And he gave an example and he and he said, if Yazid is willing
- 18:51to spill my blood here, when I can't even spill the blood of an
- 18:55insect in this Holy Land, I must leave Haj because he knows
- 19:00what's going to happen. Yazid hench men are going to
- 19:02come and they're going to try kill the grandson of Arsolallah.
- 19:05And he left Hajj, went on to go towards Kufa.
- 19:08Eventually he got stopped on the way.
- 19:10He ended up in Karbala. And I think as we continue
- 19:14throughout the weeks in Muharram.
- 19:15We'll talk more about it and there's a there's a million
- 19:18things we can talk about and just talking, I mean we could
- 19:21spend 8 episodes alone just talking about the story of, of
- 19:24Hazard Muslim and what happened in Kufa alone and that in
- 19:28itself. Is you know what?
- 19:29We should dedicate an episode. I think, I think we should.
- 19:31I think, in fact, we, I think we shouldn't Charlotte, hopefully
- 19:33next week we'll try and make the near if, if, if things permit.
- 19:36But there's, there's important points to make.
- 19:41Firstly, Imam Hussein Islam to leave Hajj, which is compulsory
- 19:46on all Muslims to stop his Hajj halfway and to head away from,
- 19:52from Hijaz signifies to me that the the stand he was taking was
- 19:58in his eyes, more Wajib. The order from Allah Spantala
- 20:01was that this is more compulsory on you.
- 20:04Than completing your Hajj. That in itself is something to
- 20:07to be aware of. The second thing is that Imam
- 20:10Hussain Ali Salam could not give Baiterti Azid because he had he
- 20:16had to refuse to endorse a leader who openly violated
- 20:20Islamic teachings and practices. We're talking about a community
- 20:23of people who put heads on Spears less than 50 years after
- 20:28the death of the mercy to mankind.
- 20:30Sallallahu alaihi alaihi wasallam.
- 20:32And in Imam Hussein's defence of justice, he was able to to give
- 20:36himself basically. And that was so important.
- 20:39He stood up against the injustice of Yazid's regime.
- 20:42And, and just from a logical perspective as well, how can
- 20:47anyone take Islam seriously? How can anyone take the other
- 20:50beta name of Islam seriously if they themselves accept
- 20:55reluctantly, albeit, but accept the bait of Yazid?
- 20:58How it you, you won't take them seriously because you'll say you
- 21:02say one things, but your actions tell me something else.
- 21:04If you give in to Yazid, your actions say something else.
- 21:07So Imam Hussein Islam, it's not that he had no choice but to
- 21:10give his life, but he willingly did it because he wanted to
- 21:14serve Allah, Allah. And he knew that this was for
- 21:16the for the, the, the greater good, for the bigger picture,
- 21:20that this will continue to revive the teachings of Russella
- 21:23Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Alaihi of Salem.
- 21:25And you know, the point of I think we focused a lot on beta
- 21:28here. I think one more .1 more point
- 21:30to add to this. Is that why Imam Hussain will
- 21:33never give beta to a man like Yazid?
- 21:36I think we read it all the time is you have to.
- 21:37I showed up yeah too. And just like the, the, the
- 21:44impurities of the ignorant and barbaric people will never come
- 21:49to you, Hussein, it's never going to touch you.
- 21:51You're not going to shake hands with impurities.
- 21:53You're not going to shake hands with, you know, people who are
- 21:56filled with hate, who are filled with rage, people who are filled
- 21:59with anger towards your mother, towards your father, towards
- 22:01your grandfather. What is all of this like?
- 22:04If, if we, if we want to talk about Hussein and if we want to
- 22:08talk about Yazid, I, I, I think let's leave Hussein alone for a
- 22:12second. I think we all know his status.
- 22:15I think we all know how great he is.
- 22:17I think we all know his mission. But I don't think people have
- 22:19understood who Yazid is because Yazid and, and I think it may be
- 22:24shocking for a lot of Muslims listening.
- 22:27Yazid used to lead, lead facial prayers whilst being drunk.
- 22:31He was intoxicated. I don't know, he's swimming
- 22:34alcohol. Allahu, Alan, what he used to
- 22:35do, but he used to leave prayers while he was drunk.
- 22:38And, you know, very famously I said let's leave Shia box aside,
- 22:41let's go to the Sunni world. Those who at times Revere him,
- 22:46those who praise him and those who say he held lots of virtues,
- 22:49lots of merits. Let's go to Ibn Kafir.
- 22:51Let's go to his book Al Bidaya and Nahi.
- 22:55OK. He mentions a number of virtues
- 22:59about Yazid. Are you ready for the virtues?
- 23:03The first mirror Yazid loves to consume alcohol.
- 23:08Yeah. That's merit.
- 23:09One merit #2 Yazid loves to be in private gatherings with young
- 23:15boys. Yeah, you can imagine the rest.
- 23:17Merit #3 Yazid loved music, went to as far as music was being
- 23:24played in the lands of Mecca and Medina point #4 Yazid.
- 23:31Should I carry on? Yeah, of course, of course.
- 23:34I don't want to be sarcastic, but this is the reality of of.
- 23:38Of. But do you know what?
- 23:39Do you know what annoys me? Said I'll be real with you.
- 23:40Yeah. You talk about.
- 23:42I mean, Kathira, I'll be there when they hire.
- 23:43Yeah. OK.
- 23:44I guarantee you I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure when
- 23:48I looked into this before, there's no mention of the
- 23:52dishonour of Yazid because of him being the killer of a mum.
- 23:54I was. Saying of course not.
- 23:56They will list A-Z of all the sins that Yazid has done.
- 24:00He played with monkeys, he played chess, he listened to
- 24:02music, he drunk alcohol, he liked young boys.
- 24:05But none of that, none of that is worse than being the killer
- 24:08of a month saying. Islam, by the way, they will
- 24:10even debate if he's a Muslim, but those so say Rodi Allahuan
- 24:14sold and their debate is not, by the way, whether he was a Muslim
- 24:16or a woman, it's whether he was a Farsik, a Farger or a Carter.
- 24:21So they already know where it's headed.
- 24:23But the problem is the moment they want to admit how Yazeed
- 24:25came into power, what paved the way for Yazeed to come into
- 24:28power, a lot of dominoes start to fall.
- 24:30So they have to sort of create like an umbrella sort of
- 24:33protection, an extra added layoff safety, a safety net
- 24:37where don't look too much into Yazeed because if you do, you
- 24:40might start to. Look back to everything
- 24:43crumbles, back to everything crumbles.
- 24:46Honestly, honestly, how did Yazeed come into power?
- 24:48OK, how did his dad come into power?
- 24:52Didn't his dad take power from a mammal Hassan al Islam?
- 24:55What's the story there? How did mammal Hassan al Islam
- 24:59retrieve successorship from his Holy Father?
- 25:01And how was your mammal Hazan killed By who?
- 25:03Who ordered this? And these things said, I'll just
- 25:06say, you know, this, it's just frustrating.
- 25:08I know we're going to wrap up soon, but the whole concept
- 25:10which drives me insane, you know, and even in in some
- 25:15traditions that say, as I mentioned earlier, that Yazid
- 25:17sought Toba, no, it does not make any sense.
- 25:21I cannot fathom how this makes sense because we've said in
- 25:25previous episodes how he attacked the Kataba, for
- 25:28example, in the in the latter years of, of his Khalafa.
- 25:31And obviously he only lived, I think a couple of years after
- 25:33Katabala anyway, and he attacked the Kataba in those years.
- 25:37It's like, for example, you know, if someone seeks toba, if
- 25:41someone seeks Toba, they mean it from their heart, from the
- 25:43bottom of their soul. OK, And that means I make the
- 25:46NIA to never do this thing again, right?
- 25:49And I heard in a, in a fantastic lecture that it's like, for
- 25:52example, if, if, if if someone has an issue with a father,
- 25:56insults a father and then 14 years on, for example, at the
- 26:01funeral of the father's son, at the son's funeral, he insults
- 26:06people and attacks people at the funeral or attacks the funeral,
- 26:09for example, But they say no, maybe they sought TOBA.
- 26:12But if they sought TOBA after the first insult, then how can
- 26:15they then the TOBA be sincere or forgiven?
- 26:17It doesn't make sense. And in the same way we say that
- 26:20Yazid was disingenuous, all of this when he says, for example,
- 26:24in the Sunni books says that Yazid blames Ibn Ziyad, he says
- 26:30look what Ibn Ziyad has brought upon me.
- 26:32Ibn Ziyad was in Kufa. Now if we're making the argument
- 26:35that Yazid was in Shaman, Karbala, happened in Iraq, then
- 26:39Ibn Ziyad is in Kufa. He's not in Karbala either.
- 26:41So why is that a point to mention?
- 26:43And even more so when Yazid says look what Ibn Ziad has brought
- 26:47up on me, Some people you can look at it from 2 perspectives.
- 26:50Either that means look what he's done.
- 26:54I can't believe this has happened.
- 26:55I'm very remorseful. Or on the flip side, Yazid is
- 26:58saying what a nuisance this guy is, what inconvenience he's
- 27:02brought upon me. Because now I have to deal with
- 27:04these people. I don't want to deal with them.
- 27:06I don't want to deal with the reputation it's giving me.
- 27:08I stand by what I did but I blame the ones who I appointed
- 27:12to carry out for making this inconvenience is to me.
- 27:15Do you see what I mean? Like it, It does not make sense
- 27:18and it's sickening to the course.
- 27:19I think it's so important that all Shia around the world and
- 27:22including myself, first and foremost, we familiarise
- 27:26ourselves with the reasoning for Imam Hussain Ali Salam's message
- 27:31in its in itself, in its in the 1st place.
- 27:33Why did Imam Hussain Ali Haslam get to the point where he had to
- 27:36arrive at Karbala? Why was he there?
- 27:39Why did he know that he was embarking on this journey with
- 27:43his his beloved family and his companions knowing that they
- 27:46would all lose their lives? Why did he take it upon himself
- 27:50to do that? And what was his near towards
- 27:52our last panel to Allah? Because without this complete
- 27:55holistic understanding of why Imam Hussein did what he did, we
- 28:00will never ever understand Karaballah.
- 28:03Ever. We can do Majalis until the day
- 28:05we die. We can name our son of Qasim,
- 28:07Akbar, Askar all of these names until the day we die.
- 28:10For hundreds of years our lineage are doing Azar and
- 28:13Majalis. But if we don't truly understand
- 28:16Imam Hussein's understanding of Tawheed and his his his full
- 28:22manifestation of Tawheed in his actions, then we will never
- 28:27understand Karbala. And if we don't understand
- 28:30Karbala, then we can't share his message to people around us.
- 28:33When we talk about Imam Hussein, we will end up being cliche.
- 28:36Imam Prasain stood for justice. He stood against tyranny, he
- 28:39stood up against depression. OK bro, how?
- 28:41Tell me please, what is it? Because first and foremost,
- 28:44first and foremost, Imam Prasain stood for a last part of the
- 28:47Allah. The commandment of Allah comes
- 28:49first, secondly, secondly comes his responsibility to the
- 28:55people, his public duty, his duty as the Imam.
- 28:57What not so on and so forth. These are secondary.
- 29:00They are still wording upon him as the Imam, but first and
- 29:03foremost Imam's Imam was doing a godly act.
- 29:07He sacrificed himself because Allah commanded it.
- 29:09That was priority. We do a disservice to the Holy
- 29:13Imam when we make it purely about a Good Samaritan self
- 29:16sacrifice for the wider cause of justice.
- 29:19And bro, these things are pseudo intellectual in the purest form
- 29:23of nature. Unless, because they're all true
- 29:25facts, but unless we understand the daheed behind the Imam's
- 29:28actions. So I sorry I know I'm rambling a
- 29:31bit but I really want to make that point clear to myself.
- 29:34Because if I enter this holy month without a full
- 29:37understanding of why the Imam did what he did, then there's no
- 29:40point in me doing ziyad or going to Arbai in attending majalis.
- 29:44Because I go, I mourn, I beat my chest, I cry, I shed tears, I
- 29:47take my children I, I, I wear black, I tell my wife to wear
- 29:50black. I I, I don't laugh and joke
- 29:53around. I don't waste time and crack
- 29:55jokes and there's no point doing any of that if it has no bearing
- 29:59on my relationship with God. Do you see what I mean?
- 30:02Like I truly believe that because Karabala and Ashura and
- 30:06it's there for a reason. You know, there's there's so
- 30:09much more to gain from Karabala than just the tears.
- 30:14The tears are our intercessional salvation.
- 30:17You know, they will save us from the fire of hell.
- 30:20They will call us inshallah. But it's more than the tears.
- 30:25It has to be more than the tears because we won't reach the
- 30:27pinnacles of, of faith that we want to reach without that
- 30:30understanding. That's just like my, my truest
- 30:33current opinion. You know, I really believe we
- 30:35need to get to that stage. I have you have one layer very
- 30:38right, Ahmed, I, I endorse every second you spoke in that point
- 30:43because it gave me flashbacks to our previous conversation we had
- 30:49last Muharram where we were like, you know, there has to be
- 30:51more. Like it's not just yes, the
- 30:55month of Muharram. Don't get me wrong, it's about
- 30:57mourning, it's about Azad. And we dedicate Azad and
- 31:00mourning throughout Muharram and Safar, right?
- 31:03But there is more to learn from Karbala.
- 31:06There is more to learn from Ashura.
- 31:07There is more to understand from Imam Hussain, not just his
- 31:10battle, but understand his biography, understand, you know,
- 31:15the teachings that he done, the works that he completed.
- 31:17And it's not just about him dying on the plains of Karbala
- 31:21or being killed on the plains of Karbala, or his head being
- 31:24paraded from city to city. There is more because it was a
- 31:27godly mission. And like you mentioned, you
- 31:29mentioned a very beautiful word, which was the Tauheid of Imam
- 31:33and Hussein. I don't think anyone has ever
- 31:35looked at it from that lens and perhaps it's a lens we should
- 31:39take here on the aftermath of podcast is what was the top
- 31:42Haiti Mahmoud Hussain was after? What was he trying to re
- 31:45establish? What was that connection he
- 31:47wanted to give to the Muslims and revive and awaken the Omah
- 31:50of Muhammad? Back to believe in the Allah
- 31:52Allah, back to believe in the justice of Allah, his Adalah.
- 31:55All of this bro, this is something we need to ask
- 31:57ourselves. Said, I think it's a good time
- 31:58for you to talk about the canvas behind us, my dear brother Kariz
- 32:02Hosseini, who put together this absolutely beautiful artwork.
- 32:09Tell us what it says. I need the artwork.
- 32:12I saw it a few days ago and I was just staring at it.
- 32:16It's it's a beautiful piece of art and it has the Quranic eye
- 32:22and the verse, it reminds you of a podcast.
- 32:28We have notice our dad, he mentioned it quite a few times a
- 32:30few weeks back when we were discussing mental health.
- 32:32And now here, here the verses is right there and and something we
- 32:35should reflect on. And at the bottom it says
- 32:37Assalamu Allah Rasil, peace be upon the head that was 7th and
- 32:44the the head of Imam Hussein was placed on top of the spear.
- 32:48Yeah, this is this is no joke. Yeah.
- 32:50I mean, why, why, why did it happen?
- 32:53Why did Allah allow it to happen?
- 32:56Like there is so much, I think not hidden meaning behind
- 33:00Ashura. It's just we're not chasing it.
- 33:03We're not bothered to go look for it.
- 33:04We're not bothered to go look for it.
- 33:06We just want to do lock on and at Hamdullah for lock on.
- 33:08And Inshallah, this chest will crush in the beating and the
- 33:12lamenting that we do for Imam Hussein during during his
- 33:14majalis. But there is more Ahmed Wallah,
- 33:18there is more. I mentioned last year.
- 33:19There's so much points on my head.
- 33:20I may repeat from last year where I was like the connection
- 33:24we need to have with Muharram is the connection that we build
- 33:30during the months of Ramadan. If we're, you know, standing,
- 33:34praying on time during the month of Ramadan, that's because we
- 33:38have understood what Allah was from us.
- 33:42Muharram is here. Let's understand why Hussein
- 33:46died for us. What benefit is there to us from
- 33:51Karbala and from Ashura? So if it's prayers, for example,
- 33:56I'll see you again. Imam Hussain didn't stop him
- 33:59from praying during the battle. He stood firm.
- 34:03He established Salah. And you know, we read during the
- 34:08most difficult time, the most difficult.
- 34:10Moment and a lot of rewarded him for that.
- 34:12Of course, you know there's this verse behind us from sort of
- 34:15Fajr and art of Fasir. In fact, even from Islam.
- 34:19He mentions that this is the sort of the mum saying Islam
- 34:23because in the first couple of verses, I think in the sort of
- 34:25if I'm not mistaken, it talks about 10 nights.
- 34:28It talks about the concept of 10 nights.
- 34:29It's unknown in the wider was Muslim world, but out of us
- 34:32references 10 nights, which we believe the 10 nights of arm of
- 34:35course, and in this verse from I think 27 to 30 or something like
- 34:40that, when it talks about nafsal mutoma in the the the tranquil
- 34:45soul, the soul that is. At rest the contented soul.
- 34:48The consent, the contented soul. We believe that that soul in our
- 34:52tough series is in reference to Mama saying this, that even
- 34:55amidst such trying and turbulent circumstances, Imam Hussein
- 34:59Islam returned to our last final to Allah.
- 35:01I. Said.
- 35:04Lord, take all you want until you're pleased, yeah.
- 35:07We so the, the tawheed is the primary thing we remember, you
- 35:12know, talking about, like you said, just the, the Azhar and
- 35:15all of these things are our mechanism, our vehicle to reach
- 35:19that point of tawheed. They have to be and it can't
- 35:21just, it can't be an end point. The Majalis, the Hidma, the
- 35:25Chima, the all of these things. They, they, they, they are
- 35:29mechanisms for us to reach God and that has to be key for us.
- 35:32Like we reach Imam Hussein when we understand Imam Hussein
- 35:36holistically in his, in his whole form and his whole vision,
- 35:42then we understand that everything he did was for a last
- 35:45one to Allah, you know, so hopefully.
- 35:47When you help them, Shahar a laugh and the ham.
- 35:50And we know those who revive the symbols of God for the piety of
- 35:54the hearts. I sense like all like we we, we,
- 35:57we very like in our school of four.
- 36:00Yeah. We connect the shower of Imam
- 36:01Hussein, for example, to the shower of a lot.
- 36:03Yeah, yeah. They go hand in hand and, and
- 36:06there's a point I want to say, I think we as Shia, I think we
- 36:09know we have to do more. But I think possibly there may
- 36:12be for the first time, I think because we've discussed your
- 36:14seed, we may have Muslims watching who are not Shia
- 36:17thinking what, what on earth are we talking about?
- 36:19Like who is Imam Hussain? I just know him, that he was a
- 36:22young kid with Rasul Allah. I don't know nothing more.
- 36:25I think there's a duty on you as a Muslim because as a Muslim,
- 36:28well, it's incumbent on you to go find the truth.
- 36:31I'm not going to come and tell you Ali, Omar, Haku al Hakum,
- 36:34Ali. I don't want to repeat these
- 36:35lines. I watched that last week.
- 36:36Yeah, tune back last week, last year, the week before that,
- 36:40every week, Insha Allah Haku Ali will stay with Ali.
- 36:42But there there is an added responsibility on you that you
- 36:46need to go see the truth no matter where it takes you, only
- 36:50for the people. So just because someone told
- 36:52you, you know what, let's reveal Yazeed or let's reveal Mahalia,
- 36:55and then that's the truth. No, no, no, look for the truth.
- 36:58And then you'll find this people very famously.
- 37:00You've said this so much times in our conversations that we
- 37:02have here. But I do want to say this and I
- 37:05think as a final point from me is that how can you say may
- 37:10Allah be pleased with the one and the ones who hurts the
- 37:15family of Rasul? Allah.
- 37:17The ones, all of them killed the family of Rasul Allah, butchered
- 37:21the family of Rasul Allah, pains the family of Rasul Allah, hurt
- 37:25the family of Rasul Allah. And it goes beyond, beyond.
- 37:29The ones who praise them, be with them.
- 37:30The the the problem is they think we just emotion.
- 37:33We're just emotionally attached to the elevator.
- 37:36No bro, go read Hadif al Kisal. Go look at how Rasul Allah
- 37:41sallallahu alayhi wasalam beautifully articulates what has
- 37:46Ellen Bait means to him. And whilst I do have it on, I do
- 37:50have it on on my phone. I'm going to mention a few lines
- 37:54where he says referring to his to his family very briefly.
- 38:00Hadith al kisat. It's the hadith on the cloak,
- 38:03the Imani cloak, where Rasul Allah, Fatimah, Zahra, Imam Ali
- 38:08and Al Hassan and Hussain and eventually Angel Jubrail.
- 38:11They all go under this kisa. He says Allahumma and naha ulaya
- 38:15helabeti. Oh Allah, these are the people
- 38:17of my household, Lahum lahmi waddemo home, Demi.
- 38:22Their flesh is my flesh and their blood is my blood, My
- 38:25blood. You illumine my illumine.
- 38:28Whoever hurts them hurts me. Whoever displeases them
- 38:34displeases me. And a harbour only man Harabo
- 38:38home. I am at war with those who are
- 38:42at war with them. OK Wassalm only man Salem home.
- 38:47I am at peace with those who are at peace with them.
- 38:51What I do only men are the home. I am an enemy of their enemies.
- 38:57Speaks for itself. That's not no.
- 39:03No more, no more comments. Not say that I don't know.
- 39:07Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is not.
- 39:09Coming from the back lips, the tongue of.
- 39:12No conjecture, no dispute. There's no question marks,
- 39:17colours. That's it.
- 39:18Point proven right. I mean, look, bro, this is
- 39:22inshallah I, I really pray a blessing season for us.
- 39:24I hope everyone at home is, is going to have a blessed season.
- 39:27We use this as a, as a inshallah catalyst for us to gain that
- 39:32connection with the last Montana through say, the Shahada Alaihi
- 39:35Salaam. And I'm, I'm, I'm looking
- 39:39forward to the next few episodes.
- 39:41I know it's going to be heartbreaking.
- 39:42I know we have some absolutely excellent, excellent podcasts
- 39:47lined up. Hamdullah for the blessing of
- 39:50being in London, bro, because we have so many amazing, amazing,
- 39:54amazing guests, every Muharram, both local and travellers who
- 39:58are visiting London, who we can bring on the podcast.
- 40:00And it's extremely difficult because we could do a podcast a
- 40:04day between now and either Zahara Ali Salaam, and we could
- 40:08continue to do a different discussion on every day with a
- 40:11different guest, and it would still not do justice or suffice.
- 40:15To to the level of talking and, and analysis that this holy
- 40:19season warrants and deserves. So you know, we're going to try
- 40:23and cram as much positive, proactive educational content in
- 40:29as, as we can. But look, as we always say,
- 40:33we're open to your suggestions, your ideas, everyone at home.
- 40:36So please keep us informed in your Das.
- 40:40Let us know who you want to see, what you want us to talk about.
- 40:43And yeah, over to you. Said they're all Ahmed.
- 40:46Said they're all said too much. There's not, no, there's nothing
- 40:49else for me to say apart. From Now's a good time to
- 40:51subscribe I. Was just getting there.
- 40:54Make sure you hit the subscribe button, you know, give us a
- 40:56like, give us a final share this content that if you think it's
- 40:59beneficial, share with someone that you think may find it
- 41:02beneficial to them as well. And I think together we can
- 41:05shall not change the world and make the world a better place
- 41:08when it comes to the online world of share media.
- 41:10I sent him. I sent him.
- 41:12All right, guys, we will see you next week.
