- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is an epic day.
- 0:15It is the 7th of February, which of course is a Friday, and we
- 0:21are cracking open a new book of the Bible.
- 0:25We are heading back into the Proverbs.
- 0:28That's right into that wisdom writing from Solomon as he
- 0:33shares his wise reflections on the world as he preserves it
- 0:38around him. And friends, we are going to dip
- 0:41into the Proverbs every Friday. No, we are not going to head
- 0:45down, bum up, carve our way through a chapter at a time,
- 0:49which would be completely overwhelming.
- 0:52But what we're going to do is just take a handful, or maybe a
- 0:55mutant handful, about 6 at a time, and enjoy 6 Proverbs.
- 1:00Reflect on those, prey on those, and head into the last day of
- 1:05our work week. So that is what our plan is.
- 1:08Isn't that fantastic? Now you would remember from last
- 1:12year at some point when we read through Proverbs 1 to 9, where a
- 1:16teacher shared with a student or a father shared with his son
- 1:20these elements of truth about wisdom and how important wisdom
- 1:24is in one's life. And now moving into the second
- 1:29aerial, the second phase of Proverbs, if you like, is
- 1:33beginning from Proverbs 10 all the way through to the end in
- 1:35chapter 31 where it is filled with these wise sayings.
- 1:42Now let us pause for a moment and reflect on what these
- 1:45sayings are and aren't. These are not promises.
- 1:51These are not promises. This is not God saying if you do
- 1:54this, then this will happen. These are reflections and
- 1:58observations that the teacher has made that I have seen this
- 2:02happen time and time again. And so while the Scripture is
- 2:07there to transform our hearts and give us the gift of faith,
- 2:13the Scripture is also there to shape us for godly living.
- 2:17And so that is where the proverbs shine.
- 2:20So come back in time with me. Let's sit at the feet of that
- 2:24wise, wise teacher and hear these proverbs as we read
- 2:28together. Proverbs chapter 10 verses 1:00
- 2:31to 6:00. The Proverbs of Solomon.
- 2:45A wise child brings joy to a father.
- 2:49A foolish child brings grief to a mother.
- 2:54Tainted wealth has no lasting value, but right living can save
- 2:59your life. The Lord will not let the godly
- 3:03go hungry, but He refuses to satisfy the craving of the
- 3:08wicked. Lazy people are soon poor.
- 3:12Hard workers get rich. A wise youth harvests in the
- 3:18summer, but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace.
- 3:25The godly are showered with blessings.
- 3:28The words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.
- 3:42Our Lord, we see in this proverb your encouragement not to be
- 3:47lazy, but to be a hard worker. And the proverb talks about
- 3:52laziness bringing on poverty and hard work bringing on riches.
- 3:56But Lord, as we apply that to our life and to our work for
- 4:00Your Kingdom, we see that it's through our hard work, following
- 4:05your promptings, that we can be a part of bringing Your Kingdom
- 4:10to fruition. So Lord, as much as it is
- 4:13glorious just to bask, bask in your forgiveness and love to us,
- 4:20Lord, also at the same time inspire us to action and hard
- 4:25work to dig our fingers into the dirt of life to get our hands
- 4:29dirty in service to You. So we offer ourselves to you.
- 4:35We pray that you lead us to your good hard work so that these
- 4:41riches in your Kingdom can blossom like a fruit tree and
- 4:46spring. So we just thank you for drawing
- 4:49us into your kingdom's work and pray that you bless us as we do
- 4:54this in your love and your name. And we pray all of this through
- 5:00Jesus, who makes us all possible.
- 5:02I'm in.
