- 1:31Speaker 2: joining us in studio. Now, Rusty, how are you doing.
- 1:33Speaker 9: I'm doing great. Man, it's a good weekend. It's hot.
- 1:36Speaker 10: Gotta go home, Williard. So really looking forward to that.
- 1:41Speaker 10: Not yep, but it has to be done right.
- 1:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I wonder how many people are listening to us right
- 1:48Speaker 2: now while they're mowing the yard. I feel like it
- 1:49Speaker 2: might be a few, you know.
- 1:51Speaker 10: One of the things I do with I'm Molliard. I've
- 1:53Speaker 10: got like an acre and I trying to get my
- 1:56Speaker 10: steps in. So I got this big commercial walk behind
- 1:58Speaker 10: you know. Yeah ship helped me out and uh with
- 2:01Speaker 10: one of its sponsors and so. But yeah, I listened
- 2:05Speaker 10: to a ballgame, listen to a book, or listen to
- 2:08Speaker 10: some kind of radio. Just it kind of like numbs,
- 2:13Speaker 10: you kind of like, you know, you kind of forget
- 2:15Speaker 10: about how steps taking right.
- 2:17Speaker 9: How hot it is.
- 2:18Speaker 10: And then with my mother backyard, I have to deal
- 2:21Speaker 10: with my dog because I've got a silver lab and
- 2:23Speaker 10: she's very very smart. So she drops the ball in
- 2:26Speaker 10: front of the lawnmore so that I have to stop
- 2:28Speaker 10: the lawnmower. Of course, pick it up, throw it and
- 2:31Speaker 10: then she runs fetches it. Then she runs up to
- 2:34Speaker 10: the pool, drops it into the pool, jumps in the
- 2:37Speaker 10: pool like it's I mean, I don't hunt, but if
- 2:39Speaker 10: if I did, she'd be a heck of a hunting
- 2:41Speaker 10: dog because she would be going to get the ducks
- 2:43Speaker 10: and whatever in the water.
- 2:45Speaker 9: She thinks we built that swimming pool for her. I mean,
- 2:47Speaker 9: she lives.
- 2:48Speaker 10: I clean that filter out ever so often it's just
- 2:50Speaker 10: full of silver hair, Like nothing but the silver hair.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Right, it's always the dogs that aren't supposed to be
- 2:56Speaker 2: hunting dogs that act like them.
- 2:58Speaker 10: Oh she she she's a lab, so I mean it's
- 3:02Speaker 10: in her. But yeah, she since I don't hunt, maybe
- 3:07Speaker 10: she should go out with chips sometimes.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm similar to you with the mow in the
- 3:13Speaker 2: lawn whenever, whenever it needs to be done, which I
- 3:16Speaker 2: mean we're I live in an apartment complex right now,
- 3:18Speaker 2: so I don't really have that. But when I lived
- 3:19Speaker 2: at home back you know, in the country, that was
- 3:22Speaker 2: kind of my job. That's how I contributed to the household,
- 3:25Speaker 2: was mowing the yard.
- 3:26Speaker 10: It's mindless, but it's also instant gratification, you know. Like
- 3:30Speaker 10: my wife makes fun of me all the time because
- 3:33Speaker 10: she's like, you actually enjoy mowing the yard. Like I
- 3:36Speaker 10: don't know if I enjoy moaning the yard, but I
- 3:39Speaker 10: enjoy having mowed the yard.
- 3:41Speaker 8: You know what.
- 3:41Speaker 9: It's like the same thing with working out.
- 3:43Speaker 10: I don't know if I really enjoy working out, but
- 3:45Speaker 10: I love to have worked out, sure, And so that
- 3:48Speaker 10: that makes any sense, Yeah, because I like, like try
- 3:51Speaker 10: to stripe the front yard.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I never I never tried to do that. I don't
- 3:55Speaker 2: think we ever had a nice enough mowhere to try
- 3:57Speaker 2: to do that.
- 3:58Speaker 10: Well, it's a pretty decent mower, but I've got to
- 4:02Speaker 10: go replace the brutt Blaze today before I start. So anyway,
- 4:06Speaker 10: lots of fun things going on in the rest of
- 4:09Speaker 10: the week.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I didn't think that we would start this by talking
- 4:11Speaker 2: about mowing for five minutes. But you know, whatever, whatever
- 4:14Speaker 2: we there is to talk about during the summer is
- 4:15Speaker 2: what we're gonna talk about.
- 4:16Speaker 9: I still have summertime.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I still have memories, and I'm gonna keep talking
- 4:21Speaker 2: about mowing the yard because I still I remember the
- 4:23Speaker 2: twenty twenty four in Baseball run. Most of those games
- 4:26Speaker 2: I listened to while mowing the yard, So I just
- 4:29Speaker 2: associated with that.
- 4:30Speaker 9: Now.
- 4:31Speaker 10: Yeah, Well, I was on Lewis Show last Thursday, and
- 4:33Speaker 10: somehow we got onto mowing the yard too. He made
- 4:36Speaker 10: that a promo Yeah, I ended up mowing Billy Luci's yard.
- 4:40Speaker 10: Somehow my son has got a job, and then I
- 4:43Speaker 10: ended up mowing the yard for him and I you
- 4:47Speaker 10: know what in apartment complex.
- 4:48Speaker 9: So in high school, our coaches would get some of
- 4:52Speaker 9: the football players jobs.
- 4:53Speaker 10: And so yeah, like this landscaping company came to him
- 4:57Speaker 10: four seasons, so he picked out like four or five players,
- 5:00Speaker 10: and like outdoor work, you know, you're gonna get used,
- 5:04Speaker 10: You're gonna get used to the heat for two days.
- 5:07Speaker 9: And so we mowed department complexes. And I just had this.
- 5:10Speaker 10: Horrific dream of starting in Dallas and mowe and I
- 5:15Speaker 10: forty five, like all the way down to Houston, turn
- 5:18Speaker 10: around and go back, you know.
- 5:20Speaker 9: So that was my dream.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Each stripe is there, yeah and back.
- 5:24Speaker 10: Well, it was like the five we all just put
- 5:27Speaker 10: had these little bitty push mowers, you know that was.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That sounds like a like a dystopian movie, almost like
- 5:36Speaker 2: like The Long Walk, but with lawnmowers. Yes, indeed, so
- 5:40Speaker 2: it's trade deadline season now. Uh, now that we've gotten
- 5:43Speaker 2: our our summer yard work segment segment out of the way,
- 5:48Speaker 2: you know, we talk about whatever we can find to
- 5:49Speaker 2: talk about here days of summer. But we're I feel
- 5:52Speaker 2: like we're back almost fully to having all the sports
- 5:56Speaker 2: to talk about. You know, we just had sec media days,
- 5:59Speaker 2: MLB trade deadlines coming up, so you know, football's almost here.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Baseball is getting into the really interesting part of the season.
- 6:07Speaker 2: So I don't think we're gonna have to try too
- 6:10Speaker 2: hard to have things to talk about anymore, which is
- 6:12Speaker 2: always nice. I kind of wanted to hear some of
- 6:15Speaker 2: your thoughts on this trade deadline that we've got. You know,
- 6:20Speaker 2: it's one of those interesting situations where there's a lot
- 6:24Speaker 2: of teams in contention, so you know, on the surface,
- 6:27Speaker 2: you think, oh, there's gonna be a lot of moves,
- 6:28Speaker 2: but with a lot of teams competing for the playoffs,
- 6:31Speaker 2: we might not see as many big names this year.
- 6:35Speaker 9: You know, the.
- 6:35Speaker 10: Rangers just got through with a four game series with
- 6:38Speaker 10: the Mariners. They took three out of four, They should
- 6:40Speaker 10: have taken four out of four. Their bullpen blew up yesterday,
- 6:47Speaker 10: and so I think the Rangers really might look seriously
- 6:53Speaker 10: at adding not a closer, because they don't need a closer,
- 6:57Speaker 10: right They've got a closer, but so they don't have
- 7:01Speaker 10: to go out like the twenty twenty three team went
- 7:03Speaker 10: out and got Chappin. Chapman's having a great year with
- 7:06Speaker 10: the Red Sox, but Lats has been a very very
- 7:09Speaker 10: good closer for the Rangers so far this year. I
- 7:12Speaker 10: saw the athletic projected that they went out and they
- 7:16Speaker 10: got Kyle Weaver from the Mets, who's a very very
- 7:20Speaker 10: solid or should be Luke Weaver from the Mets, who
- 7:24Speaker 10: very very solid reliever, would really be an upgrade in
- 7:27Speaker 10: that bullpen. On the other hand, I'm not sure Cody
- 7:32Speaker 10: Bradford has looked really really good in the minors. He
- 7:36Speaker 10: hasn't been stretched out to starter stuff, but I don't
- 7:40Speaker 10: think he needs to.
- 7:41Speaker 9: And so I think Cody Bradford could be back.
- 7:44Speaker 10: As soon as, you know, a week and a half,
- 7:47Speaker 10: and if you put him in the bullpen, and then
- 7:50Speaker 10: it's gonna be interesting because they're going to Tampa Bay today,
- 7:55Speaker 10: So they played Tampa Bay the next three games, and
- 7:57Speaker 10: then they have the three games at Houston.
- 8:00Speaker 9: They're projecting.
- 8:02Speaker 10: This is not official by any means, but the radio
- 8:04Speaker 10: broadcasters were speculating on the broadcast today about Jordan Montgomery
- 8:09Speaker 10: making a start in Tampa. Montgomery has been up and down,
- 8:14Speaker 10: but his last start was really really good and he
- 8:18Speaker 10: went five innings again one run. You know, I mean,
- 8:21Speaker 10: he's not going to overpower you. But he was so
- 8:24Speaker 10: critical in that twenty twenty three World Series run for
- 8:28Speaker 10: the Rangers, and quite frankly, he started it off in Tampa,
- 8:32Speaker 10: so projecting him to make a start in Tampa and
- 8:38Speaker 10: that way, if they did, it would line up so
- 8:42Speaker 10: that with the Astros, which is going to be a
- 8:44Speaker 10: huge series for both teams, the Rangers would line up
- 8:49Speaker 10: with Evaldi, de Gram and Rocker against the Astros, which ideally,
- 8:55Speaker 10: I mean, right now, that's the best the Rangers can throw,
- 8:58Speaker 10: because I mean quite Rocker has been really good the
- 9:02Speaker 10: last couple appearances. He didn't start off great today, he
- 9:06Speaker 10: was wild inside the strike zone.
- 9:08Speaker 9: Gave him a couple really really hard hits.
- 9:11Speaker 10: Home run to Rose Arena, but then he really got
- 9:14Speaker 10: his slider going, and when he gets that going, he's tough.
- 9:19Speaker 10: And so he's had, you know, three quality starts out
- 9:22Speaker 10: of his last four. The one quality start or the
- 9:25Speaker 10: one non quality start was against the Astros when the
- 9:28Speaker 10: Astros just lit him up. So I'm sure he would
- 9:31Speaker 10: love another opportunity of that, but that's gonna be a
- 9:33Speaker 10: big series. The Astros won five out of six. They've
- 9:36Speaker 10: got some very very difficult decisions to make too. I
- 9:40Speaker 10: saw this just everybody's got their own projections about the
- 9:44Speaker 10: trade deadline. I saw that the athletics big projection was
- 9:49Speaker 10: that the Astros take advantage of Paina and his value
- 9:53Speaker 10: right now and go really build the farm system.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Up, really big move, he would.
- 9:59Speaker 9: But I just don't know.
- 9:59Speaker 10: You you're only two and a half out, You've won
- 10:02Speaker 10: five out of six. It's really hard to kind of
- 10:04Speaker 10: give up on one of your really star players right now.
- 10:08Speaker 9: I just, I mean, it's probably wise. But on the
- 10:13Speaker 9: other hand, you're so close, and.
- 10:17Speaker 10: I really think the AL West is going to be
- 10:19Speaker 10: decided in the last week this season.
- 10:21Speaker 9: I just can't see any other way.
- 10:24Speaker 10: And you and I talked about last week thinking that.
- 10:28Speaker 9: The Mariners on paper are still the.
- 10:30Speaker 10: Strongest team, But after watching them for the last four games,
- 10:34Speaker 10: I mean, tell you what, I don't think I've seen
- 10:37Speaker 10: very many players regress as much as I've seen with
- 10:42Speaker 10: cal Raley. I mean, that guy should have been I think,
- 10:45Speaker 10: in my opinion, he should have been the MVP last year.
- 10:47Speaker 10: I mean, my switch hitting catcher playing almost every day,
- 10:51Speaker 10: and you know, the guy's got no confidence and his
- 10:53Speaker 10: swing looks so bad right now. I mean he's hitting
- 10:57Speaker 10: them like a buck sixty And I mean, this is
- 10:58Speaker 10: a guy who hit sixty home runs last year and
- 11:01Speaker 10: he's nowhere close and he looks like he's lost, right
- 11:05Speaker 10: And rarely now we all see these guys who have
- 11:08Speaker 10: career years that, you know, I saw it with Joanaheim
- 11:13Speaker 10: in twenty twenty three with the Rangers.
- 11:15Speaker 9: It was a career year. Yeah, but he didn't follow
- 11:18Speaker 9: that much, you know, it.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Wasn't He also didn't jump up that much yet.
- 11:22Speaker 9: Well that's true, that's very very true.
- 11:24Speaker 10: But Raleigh just looks like someone who's just lost it
- 11:27Speaker 10: in that Seattle offense, except for you know, they got
- 11:31Speaker 10: some good young players there that can zone. Uh, he's
- 11:35Speaker 10: a really good young player. Had four RBIs against the Rangers, Yester.
- 11:39Speaker 10: They hit the big three run homer that turned that
- 11:41Speaker 10: game around. Aside from that pitch and the bullpen blew it,
- 11:47Speaker 10: the Rangers probably would have swept the series.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yeah. I just wanted to go back real quick to
- 11:53Speaker 2: Jordan Montgomery. He's had a very really interesting career.
- 11:58Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Really the head with Aaron Yeah, well, It's just funny
- 12:02Speaker 2: how he went from you know, he was a Yankee,
- 12:04Speaker 2: came up through their system, was really solid for them
- 12:09Speaker 2: a few years, and then gets traded in back to
- 12:12Speaker 2: back trade deadlines, which is always just that, right, Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yankee to the Cardinals for Harrison Bader. So it was
- 12:21Speaker 2: a major leaguer for major leaguer situation in twenty twenty two.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Then twenty twenty three, the Cardinals sent him to the Rangers,
- 12:28Speaker 2: and the Rangers, you know, obviously won the World Series
- 12:31Speaker 2: over Arizona that year, and he was big in that because.
- 12:34Speaker 9: He pitched so well. He pitched so well to.
- 12:37Speaker 10: Open the playoffs against Tampa. He pitched really well in Houston,
- 12:42Speaker 10: not in Arlington, but I think the Astros beat him
- 12:45Speaker 10: up in Orland. That was the series when the Astros
- 12:47Speaker 10: won ever game in Arlington and Rangers won ever game
- 12:50Speaker 10: in Houston.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yesz are so he pitched.
- 12:53Speaker 11: He was.
- 12:53Speaker 2: He pitched in three games in the ALCS, two starts
- 12:56Speaker 2: and one relief appearance, fourteen innings, only two earned runs,
- 13:00Speaker 2: ten strikeouts.
- 13:00Speaker 9: Okay, well that was better than I remember.
- 13:03Speaker 2: He wasn't as he only made one World Series start,
- 13:06Speaker 2: six innings, four runs.
- 13:07Speaker 10: Okay, that may have been it, because that may have
- 13:09Speaker 10: been Game two begainst the Diamondbacks and he wasn't very good.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but it's just it's funny to me that
- 13:15Speaker 2: he wins the World Series over the Diamondbacks and then
- 13:17Speaker 2: the Diamondbacks say all right, well you're playing for us
- 13:19Speaker 2: now then and they go sign up.
- 13:21Speaker 10: Well, they made a real well, very lucrative free agent signing,
- 13:25Speaker 10: and the Rangers evaluated and said, no, we're not going
- 13:28Speaker 10: to take a.
- 13:28Speaker 9: Chance on that. So interesting.
- 13:31Speaker 2: It's just really strange to me that they didn't learn
- 13:35Speaker 2: from Madison, Bump and Garner and did the exact same
- 13:37Speaker 2: thing with Jordan Montgomery. And now Manty's back on the
- 13:41Speaker 2: Rangers and.
- 13:43Speaker 10: And we'll see, because I mean, if you get money,
- 13:46Speaker 10: money to me is not as important as Cody Bradford.
- 13:49Speaker 10: Cody Bradford's the young guy. I mean, when he's been healthy,
- 13:54Speaker 10: he's been really good. He's got he's you know, he's
- 13:59Speaker 10: so just same because he only throws in those the
- 14:02Speaker 10: low nineties, but he has such great length that it
- 14:06Speaker 10: really appears like the fastball is more like ninety five
- 14:10Speaker 10: to nice seven, when really it's sitting like ninety two
- 14:14Speaker 10: ninety three. Montgomery has been like that same thing ninety
- 14:17Speaker 10: two ninety three. But he also he's also pitched in
- 14:21Speaker 10: the eighties, which is, you know, we we've seen guys
- 14:24Speaker 10: be effective. I mean, yeah, we all remit I remember Maddis,
- 14:29Speaker 10: but uh yeah, I'm old enough to remember some guys
- 14:32Speaker 10: who are really really good pitchers nowadays. Yeah, nowadays it's
- 14:36Speaker 10: like everybody's throwing ninety six nice seven, you know, but
- 14:39Speaker 10: you can still if you can locate and still pitch,
- 14:43Speaker 10: it's still about location, location, location.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah. The Rangers are in a similar situation where they
- 14:48Speaker 2: have on paper a lot of pitchers, but about half
- 14:51Speaker 2: of them are hurt so.
- 14:52Speaker 10: Well and on paper there Seeger has gone like three
- 14:58Speaker 10: days with workouts.
- 14:59Speaker 8: Now.
- 14:59Speaker 9: He took it.
- 15:00Speaker 10: He battered against left hand and pitching today. Yesterday he
- 15:04Speaker 10: did a full arrangement of fielding, hitting and running. Everything
- 15:11Speaker 10: felt good with the back, So he's actually there. He
- 15:16Speaker 10: has to agree to it, but he's already okated to
- 15:19Speaker 10: go do a like one game rehab, and so he
- 15:22Speaker 10: may go depending on what schedule. I mean, he made
- 15:26Speaker 10: it go to Round Rock or he made.
- 15:28Speaker 9: A double a whatever Frisco. But he's getting close.
- 15:35Speaker 10: Josh Young who had the hamster, not the hamstring that
- 15:39Speaker 10: he had.
- 15:39Speaker 9: The calf issue.
- 15:41Speaker 10: He's expected to come back for the Astro series and
- 15:44Speaker 10: then you know, I mean they had a scare today
- 15:48Speaker 10: with you know, Diaz getting hit in the left hand,
- 15:52Speaker 10: and they don't have any catchers anymore. It's like who's
- 15:55Speaker 10: gonna who's gonna catch? But so they're close to possibly
- 16:01Speaker 10: getting healthy for the first time really all year long.
- 16:07Speaker 2: It would be pretty Yeah, that would have been very
- 16:09Speaker 2: unfortunate Diaz would have gone down because then you have Diez,
- 16:12Speaker 2: Kyle Higashioka, and Danny Jansen. All that's insane and you're
- 16:17Speaker 2: stuck with Austin Wins.
- 16:18Speaker 9: Austin Wins with what one thirty something bad and average or.
- 16:22Speaker 2: For his career, Yes, exactly. He's kind of like that
- 16:26Speaker 2: Austin Hedges type of player where the bat is not
- 16:29Speaker 2: why you keep them Boston.
- 16:30Speaker 9: Hedges has been great this.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Year, that's true, but that's not what he's known for.
- 16:35Speaker 9: You No, definitely not.
- 16:37Speaker 10: He's known as the great cheerleader, right, a defensive catcher,
- 16:40Speaker 10: a cheerleader.
- 16:41Speaker 9: I loved him in that twenty twenty three.
- 16:43Speaker 10: Run just because he was such a cheerleader, but not
- 16:46Speaker 10: much of a bat until this year.
- 16:47Speaker 2: At He's one of my favorite players just because of
- 16:49Speaker 2: the personality.
- 16:50Speaker 9: So yeah, let me throw this at it. The school
- 16:55Speaker 9: get traded.
- 16:57Speaker 2: So I think if you're the Tigers, you know they showed,
- 17:02Speaker 2: they've shown the last couple of years like they're a
- 17:04Speaker 2: young team on the up and up and the starting
- 17:07Speaker 2: to gain trace. They surprise everybody as right, right, But
- 17:13Speaker 2: I feel like with the position you're in right now,
- 17:15Speaker 2: you should you should capitalize and get rid of him.
- 17:17Speaker 2: So if it's me, I think I think you trade him.
- 17:20Speaker 9: But so, how do you feel as a Nashros fan
- 17:22Speaker 9: about Painya?
- 17:24Speaker 2: So with Painya, I think it's similar to the Kyle
- 17:27Speaker 2: Tucker situation from a couple of years ago now, where yes,
- 17:33Speaker 2: I would love to keep him around, and if Jim
- 17:35Speaker 2: Crane would open up his pocketbook and pay him, I
- 17:38Speaker 2: would be all. I'd be fully on board with that.
- 17:40Speaker 2: But we've seen over and over again that Jim Crane
- 17:44Speaker 2: is willing to let players walk if he thinks they
- 17:47Speaker 2: want too much money. We've seen it with Alex Bregman,
- 17:50Speaker 2: Carlos Korea, George Springer, all legends of the Dynasty Astros,
- 17:55Speaker 2: and he let him go which that's how he wants
- 17:58Speaker 2: to run his organization. I don't necessarily agree with it,
- 18:01Speaker 2: but you know, he's the owner. So if that's what's
- 18:04Speaker 2: gonna happen with Pana, if he keeps having these because
- 18:07Speaker 2: he's been really solid this year, especially as the season
- 18:11Speaker 2: has gone on. I feel like he's gotten better even
- 18:14Speaker 2: though he you know, started on injured list. But he's
- 18:17Speaker 2: going to command a lot of money. I think he's
- 18:20Speaker 2: a Scott Boris guy yeap, So he's gonna want a
- 18:23Speaker 2: lot of money. But he won't be a free agent
- 18:25Speaker 2: until after the twenty twenty seven season. So if I'm.
- 18:30Speaker 10: So, he loses a lot of value in what you
- 18:32Speaker 10: get back if you wait till next year.
- 18:34Speaker 2: That's true. But I would be okay with them holding
- 18:36Speaker 2: on to him for the end of this year. And
- 18:39Speaker 2: I was talking about earlier there was a report that
- 18:42Speaker 2: the Red Sox inquired about him and got shut down immediately,
- 18:47Speaker 2: So I would be okay with keeping him for this
- 18:49Speaker 2: season trying to add, which if they add, they're not
- 18:52Speaker 2: going to like give up any big prospects because they
- 18:54Speaker 2: don't have any big prospects, so it's not like it's
- 18:56Speaker 2: going to matter that much.
- 18:58Speaker 10: So the question though is, and it's the same question
- 19:01Speaker 10: the Mariners and Rangers have to ask themselves. Okay, in
- 19:05Speaker 10: six days, what happens the next six days can go
- 19:08Speaker 10: a long way towards determining. I mean, because the Rangers
- 19:11Speaker 10: are up by two and a half games over the
- 19:13Speaker 10: Mariners and Astros. One bad week or one good week,
- 19:16Speaker 10: Like the Astros just had a really good week. It
- 19:18Speaker 10: took five out of they've won five out of the
- 19:20Speaker 10: last six, right, so, and they beat a good team
- 19:23Speaker 10: in the White Sox two out three, and they were
- 19:26Speaker 10: up and early in yesterday's game too.
- 19:28Speaker 9: So you either go all in.
- 19:33Speaker 10: Or you just kind of nickel and dominated. So it
- 19:37Speaker 10: becomes like watching the Dallas Cowboys. I've been watching the
- 19:40Speaker 10: Cowboys since, you know, I was a little kid, and
- 19:43Speaker 10: I remember when you know, stabauch Era and I remember
- 19:46Speaker 10: the great Jimmy Johnson, you know teams and then but
- 19:50Speaker 10: they haven't done anything, seriously, they haven't been bad enough
- 19:54Speaker 10: to get the number one draft pick.
- 19:56Speaker 9: Like the Astros.
- 19:57Speaker 10: They got really bad enough and they traded away some
- 20:00Speaker 10: very very memorable guys, some some guys that were you know,
- 20:04Speaker 10: Houston icons, and they all they went all in so
- 20:09Speaker 10: Houston's got to decide, Okay, do we trade Paenya and
- 20:12Speaker 10: if Payna, if we trade Painya, are we wasting yourd on?
- 20:16Speaker 10: I mean, because if the Astros truly wanted to repeat
- 20:20Speaker 10: what they what they did, like you you trade those
- 20:24Speaker 10: two guys.
- 20:25Speaker 7: I don't.
- 20:26Speaker 9: I don't think necessarily that they should. Yeah, because they're
- 20:30Speaker 9: so close to the division lead. But but by the
- 20:34Speaker 9: same token, if.
- 20:35Speaker 10: You really be the White Sox, I mean, the White
- 20:39Speaker 10: Sox have got a huge, great future, but they lost
- 20:43Speaker 10: one hundred games three years. Same thing with the Astros.
- 20:45Speaker 10: The Astros lost, you know, three hundred games in the
- 20:48Speaker 10: span of three years, but then they created a dynasty
- 20:52Speaker 10: and they hit right with all the draft picks. So
- 20:55Speaker 10: it's just one of those difficult situations. And that's why
- 20:58Speaker 10: they pay those g Hills some big money.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Well, so the thing about you know, you said, we
- 21:04Speaker 2: have a week left to the trade deadline. How you
- 21:07Speaker 2: do in this week can kind of determine whether or
- 21:09Speaker 2: not you.
- 21:09Speaker 10: Buy so right, Yeah, that you play one hundred sixty
- 21:12Speaker 10: two games, you're like, Okay, well what happens in the
- 21:14Speaker 10: next week, right, right?
- 21:15Speaker 2: But so I don't know that it will really determine
- 21:18Speaker 2: that much for the Astros because for months Dana Brown
- 21:21Speaker 2: has said we are adding, even when they were eleven
- 21:23Speaker 2: games below five hundreds back in May, he said he
- 21:26Speaker 2: came out and said we're going to add at the
- 21:28Speaker 2: trade deadline two months ago. So Dana Brown has the
- 21:31Speaker 2: whole year because I think his job's on the line
- 21:34Speaker 2: first of all. So I think he's gonna add no
- 21:37Speaker 2: matter what.
- 21:38Speaker 9: So the Rangers, this is the window.
- 21:40Speaker 10: I think they're only looking at this little window right
- 21:42Speaker 10: now because they traded five prospects in the offseason to
- 21:46Speaker 10: get Mackenzie Gore.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Who is so up and down. Yeah, I didn't really
- 21:51Speaker 2: love that move.
- 21:51Speaker 10: No, I mean, if he's if he lived up to
- 21:56Speaker 10: his potential, like the first half last year he was
- 21:58Speaker 10: an All Star for the Nationals. Yeah, but then he
- 22:01Speaker 10: had a miserable second half. Well, so far, he hadn't
- 22:04Speaker 10: been that great in the first half or the second half.
- 22:07Speaker 10: He's shown flashes, but he's so frustrated sometimes because he
- 22:11Speaker 10: has that one inning and he may be cruising along
- 22:15Speaker 10: through the first three innings and all of a sudden,
- 22:17Speaker 10: in any number four he can't find the plate, or
- 22:20Speaker 10: if he finds a plate, it's dead center. Yeah, and
- 22:25Speaker 10: that's what I've seen him so far. So I don't
- 22:28Speaker 10: think the Rangers have anything in the farm system I've seen.
- 22:31Speaker 10: You know, I think we may have talked about this
- 22:34Speaker 10: last week, but they took all the averages of all
- 22:37Speaker 10: like Baseball America and the ESPN how they ranked the
- 22:40Speaker 10: farm system, and the Rangers were twenty and the Astros
- 22:42Speaker 10: were twenty eight.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, the Astros have never had a high farm but.
- 22:45Speaker 10: The Mariners were seven. So if they and I think
- 22:48Speaker 10: we did talk about this, if any of those three
- 22:50Speaker 10: teams can actually make a big move, it's the Mariners
- 22:54Speaker 10: with prospects, right, I agree, But I don't know if
- 22:58Speaker 10: I don't know what they need. Obviously they need a
- 23:01Speaker 10: lot because they were banking on Cal Rawley, maybe not
- 23:05Speaker 10: being you know, ALV MVP cal raleyh but certainly better
- 23:10Speaker 10: than this. I mean, he's been more disappointing core seeker.
- 23:14Speaker 9: I mean.
- 23:16Speaker 2: That's a high bar right there. I mean it's close, right, Yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 2: Rally has been rough, But yeah, you don't really go
- 23:23Speaker 2: get a catcher because and they also still have Mitch Garver,
- 23:26Speaker 2: so if they wanted to not play him as much,
- 23:29Speaker 2: they have another guy. That they could throw in there.
- 23:31Speaker 9: Well, yeah, I mean who knows.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I mean that.
- 23:35Speaker 10: Obviously Langaliers is not an option anymore because he tours meniscus.
- 23:40Speaker 9: Unfortunately, that was gonna be I mean, the A's.
- 23:42Speaker 10: I would have seen them trading Langaliers because that's what
- 23:45Speaker 10: the A's do, right, I mean, if they've got a
- 23:48Speaker 10: super valuable chip, then they're gonna go ahead and get
- 23:52Speaker 10: all the prospects.
- 23:52Speaker 9: And the A's have been very successful doing that.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So I think there's just a couple catchers that are
- 23:57Speaker 2: really contributors that are on market. I mean assumings. Yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 2: Ryan Jeffers, and I'm guessing Hunter Goodman is still available.
- 24:08Speaker 10: Yes he is, Okay, but that's the one player the
- 24:12Speaker 10: Rockies have.
- 24:13Speaker 2: I mean, McCarthy's solid, too, but that's also a one
- 24:18Speaker 2: year breakout, not really a kind of.
- 24:20Speaker 9: Not really rock I go ahead and trade him.
- 24:23Speaker 2: McCarthy or a good Man Goodman Okay, yeah, yeah, I
- 24:27Speaker 2: think that might be. If Scoobale doesn't get dealt and
- 24:34Speaker 2: and uh Goodman does, then that's probably gonna be the
- 24:37Speaker 2: biggest haul of prospects that gets traded.
- 24:40Speaker 9: You know.
- 24:40Speaker 10: It's interesting because the Nats are kind of like flirting
- 24:43Speaker 10: with C. J. Abrams out there, but he's having a you.
- 24:45Speaker 9: Know, all star year.
- 24:48Speaker 10: And you know, there for a while they were looking
- 24:51Speaker 10: like a legit playoff team. I don't think that they really.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Are, so just a game out of the wild card.
- 24:57Speaker 9: The Marlins have fallen off in a hurry.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Twelve game losing streak.
- 25:03Speaker 10: Which is almost as amazing as the Red Sox what
- 25:05Speaker 10: they've done.
- 25:07Speaker 9: I mean, the Red Sox were out of it, forget.
- 25:09Speaker 10: Them, and then they won sixteen in a row, and
- 25:12Speaker 10: you know, I think they won again, so they've won
- 25:14Speaker 10: eighteen and nineteen.
- 25:15Speaker 9: That's just crazy.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah, whatever juju. The Marlins had literally just went straight
- 25:20Speaker 2: to the Red Sox exactly right, because the Red Sox
- 25:23Speaker 2: were I think it was ten games below five hundred
- 25:27Speaker 2: in June and now they're four games above. So there
- 25:33Speaker 2: might have been more than that. It was something wild.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I was looking at it the other day and it
- 25:36Speaker 2: was something really insane. It was a yeah, thirty two
- 25:39Speaker 2: and forty six. On June twenty fourth, the Red Sox
- 25:42Speaker 2: were thirty two and forty six. So they've gone twenty
- 25:47Speaker 2: two and four in their last twenty six games.
- 25:49Speaker 9: It's just amazing. The parody in baseball, and like you
- 25:52Speaker 9: look at the Blue Jays. They were just a step
- 25:56Speaker 9: away from winning the World Series last year. I mean
- 25:58Speaker 9: literally a step. Right.
- 26:02Speaker 2: What was the guy's name that jumped on top of
- 26:04Speaker 2: Key k Hernandez Paz. Yes, yeah, if he drops that
- 26:08Speaker 2: ball when they collide, right, then the Jays won the
- 26:11Speaker 2: World Series, right.
- 26:12Speaker 10: I mean, it's just amazing that and then this turnaround
- 26:15Speaker 10: and Flat's been terrible, So I mean, throw him in
- 26:19Speaker 10: the Raleigh Seeger category for like released valuable players in
- 26:23Speaker 10: the American League. But anything can happen in baseball. We've
- 26:29Speaker 10: seen that. I mean in the Red Sox and the Marlins.
- 26:32Speaker 10: Those are two two perfect cases of the best.
- 26:36Speaker 9: And the worst once the team gets on a roll
- 26:38Speaker 9: one way or another.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Right, Well, we have plenty to talk about for the

- 32:15Speaker 2: here filling in for Chip alongside mister Rusty Berson, and
- 32:20Speaker 2: we are going to continue to do some MLB trade
- 32:23Speaker 2: deadline talk. You know, a lot of big names to
- 32:27Speaker 2: be moved, a lot of big names removed last year,
- 32:29Speaker 2: and you said you wanted to take a look back
- 32:31Speaker 2: at some of those.
- 32:32Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm gonna throw out a few trades that actually
- 32:34Speaker 9: happened last year. We'll talk about them what you think now.
- 32:37Speaker 10: And because the only way you actually a lot of
- 32:40Speaker 10: times you can't determine these these things for five, six,
- 32:43Speaker 10: seven years because of the prospects.
- 32:45Speaker 9: Right, So we I don't know if we talked about.
- 32:48Speaker 10: Mason Miller, but he's certainly on the on the trading.
- 32:51Speaker 10: He's certainly kind of one of the leaders of the
- 32:53Speaker 10: Padres with they trade him. If you remember, it was
- 32:56Speaker 10: only last year that the Padres got him and they
- 32:59Speaker 10: sent five prospects to the A's and one of those prospects,
- 33:04Speaker 10: shortstop Leo de Veries is killing it at double A
- 33:08Speaker 10: and he's not even twenty yet. So here are the
- 33:11Speaker 10: Padres missing five of the prospects, five really good prospects,
- 33:16Speaker 10: and now they're sitting there turning around thinking about trading.
- 33:19Speaker 9: Mason Miller right now. Sometimes these things don't work out.
- 33:23Speaker 9: What what would you say about that trade? Now?
- 33:26Speaker 2: So the Padres, you know, they were trying to go
- 33:31Speaker 2: all in, just like we always encouraged teams to do
- 33:33Speaker 2: when when you know they have a chance. But they
- 33:36Speaker 2: made the playoffs obviously didn't make it that far. It's
- 33:42Speaker 2: very unfortunate that and it's it's the same thing that
- 33:44Speaker 2: happened with the Blue Jays. Other than that, the Blue
- 33:46Speaker 2: Jays didn't really make a big move where they gave
- 33:48Speaker 2: up a bunch of prospects. So Leod, like when people
- 33:55Speaker 2: were talking about them shopping Leo di Rerees like for
- 33:59Speaker 2: the name like that, most most people were saying, don't
- 34:03Speaker 2: trade him because he's going to be a star. Like
- 34:05Speaker 2: I think he was the number three prospect in baseball
- 34:07Speaker 2: at the time then and now he's number two and
- 34:10Speaker 2: he's still just nineteen.
- 34:12Speaker 9: So and he's killing it double A, right.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not. It's not just that he's, oh he's
- 34:17Speaker 2: only nineteen, he's also playing very well. An eight twenty
- 34:20Speaker 2: seven ops for a guy in Double A at nineteen
- 34:23Speaker 2: years old is pretty insane. So I don't know if
- 34:26Speaker 2: this is really like the Padres fault for going after
- 34:29Speaker 2: a big guy. But I don't love it. I didn't
- 34:33Speaker 2: love it at the time, just because I don't love
- 34:35Speaker 2: giving up that big of a prospect for reliever in
- 34:37Speaker 2: any situation, even though because right he's dominant.
- 34:41Speaker 9: Yeah, but the potters that I had trebles scoring this year.
- 34:44Speaker 2: So if you're going to give up your number one prospect,
- 34:46Speaker 2: who's a top five guy in all of baseball, I
- 34:48Speaker 2: feel like you got to get somebody that either plays
- 34:51Speaker 2: every day position player or is a top line starter.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I have a hard time justifying it for a closer.
- 34:59Speaker 10: You know, if it works out and that team gets
- 35:01Speaker 10: the World Series, it's worth it.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I agree with that. Yeah, they didn't.
- 35:06Speaker 10: Exactly, it didn't work out, So I'll throw one that
- 35:10Speaker 10: I thought was good out at you. The Mariners, who
- 35:13Speaker 10: came very very close to winning the American League and
- 35:16Speaker 10: going to the World Series for their first time ever.
- 35:18Speaker 10: They got Josh Naylor for two pitchers, uh Braden Garcia
- 35:24Speaker 10: and Ashton Izzy sent them to the d Backs. In hindsight,
- 35:29Speaker 10: Josh Naylor was huge in the playoffs for them.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Yeah. No, see, that's that's the kind of move that
- 35:35Speaker 2: I like at the deadline, is when it's a position
- 35:37Speaker 2: player that is going to contribute a lot like he did.
- 35:42Speaker 2: And then you know, even just down the stretch in
- 35:44Speaker 2: the regular season, he was really good. He had almost
- 35:46Speaker 2: three hundred. So I just don't love giving up big
- 35:50Speaker 2: prospects for relievers. But when you do it, like even
- 35:53Speaker 2: if you don't win, if you get a guy that's
- 35:54Speaker 2: a position player that plays every day and you hold
- 35:57Speaker 2: on to him for a little while, which the Mariners,
- 35:59Speaker 2: you know, they have him till twenty thirty, right, So
- 36:02Speaker 2: that's a great move even though they didn't win it
- 36:04Speaker 2: this past year. He's gonna be on the team until
- 36:07Speaker 2: he's thirty three years old in twenty thirty. So that's
- 36:09Speaker 2: a good move regardless in my opinion.
- 36:10Speaker 10: Okay, I throw another one that's pretty good. Phillies upgrade
- 36:13Speaker 10: the outfield with Harrison Bader for the Twins. Twins get
- 36:17Speaker 10: hit outfielder Henry Menendez right hand to pitcher Jeremy Villa Aria.
- 36:24Speaker 9: Baters was very good for the Phillies.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, didn't cost that much to get
- 36:29Speaker 2: him either. It's another big part of it, right because
- 36:31Speaker 2: Bater's Baiter's always kind of been that defensive first guy
- 36:35Speaker 2: for most of his career and he's, you know, he's
- 36:37Speaker 2: a solid hitter. But that was definitely the best stretch
- 36:41Speaker 2: of his career was with the Phillies in those fifty
- 36:43Speaker 2: games that he played. So yeah, that's that's like a
- 36:47Speaker 2: plus move, even though again they didn't win anything, or
- 36:51Speaker 2: at least not anything of consequence, didn't make the World Series.
- 36:56Speaker 2: But you know, kind of kind of a by low
- 37:00Speaker 2: Vader was having a mediocre year offensively, but then comes
- 37:04Speaker 2: over and has an insane fifty game stretch to propel
- 37:09Speaker 2: them to the playoffs and didn't work out. But again,
- 37:14Speaker 2: that was kind of a low risk trade that ended
- 37:16Speaker 2: up working out really well.
- 37:18Speaker 10: Okay, here's an interesting one because the Astros didn't give
- 37:22Speaker 10: up anything they got. They gave up Matt mcculski, who's
- 37:25Speaker 10: already been released by the Twins, right to bring Carlos
- 37:27Speaker 10: Corea back.
- 37:28Speaker 9: What thoughts about that?
- 37:29Speaker 2: So I loved that trade when it was announced, and
- 37:33Speaker 2: I still do. And it's it sucks that he got hurt, right,
- 37:37Speaker 2: But my issue with that one was if Jim Crane's
- 37:41Speaker 2: willing to spend money on somebody, why is he doing
- 37:44Speaker 2: it on Carlos Korea who's thirty something and injury prone? Right, So,
- 37:50Speaker 2: and I love Korea. I was super excited. I thought,
- 37:54Speaker 2: just because of honestly, just because of the vibes, we
- 37:57Speaker 2: were going to make the playoffs and make a run
- 37:59Speaker 2: just in Korea back together like that, would we not?
- 38:02Speaker 2: And then you know, it didn't end up working out.
- 38:04Speaker 2: But I loved that move. I just wish that Jim
- 38:08Speaker 2: Crane would make more big money moves like that.
- 38:11Speaker 9: So here's another one that I felt.
- 38:12Speaker 10: I mean, we'll see how this all works out because
- 38:15Speaker 10: of the prospects twins saying Johann Duran to the Phillies
- 38:22Speaker 10: and mick Abel right handed pitcher Mickabel and catcher Eduardo Tate.
- 38:30Speaker 10: Obviously Duran fantastic with the twins. Jerry still out right.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Uh So this is kind of the the Billy Dean
- 38:41Speaker 2: playbook from back in the early two thousands, right, He
- 38:44Speaker 2: would just try to get a solid picture, put him
- 38:48Speaker 2: in the closure.
- 38:49Speaker 8: Role.
- 38:49Speaker 2: If you get a bunch of saves, trade him and
- 38:51Speaker 2: get prospects.
- 38:52Speaker 9: Right.
- 38:52Speaker 2: So I'm not saying Joan Duran is just any old
- 38:56Speaker 2: guy that can be a closer, he's great. But anytime
- 38:59Speaker 2: a team is mediocre and has a closer that's amazing,
- 39:03Speaker 2: Trade them. Trade even if he has three years of
- 39:05Speaker 2: control left, trade them and get prospects, because with bullpen guys,
- 39:10Speaker 2: you never know when they're just gonna completely fall off, right,
- 39:13Speaker 2: So I that's a great move for them. I think
- 39:16Speaker 2: that's kind of a win win situation because you know
- 39:18Speaker 2: he continues to be great with the Phillies, the Twins
- 39:20Speaker 2: get prospects. They don't need a closer. When you know
- 39:23Speaker 2: a middling team doesn't need a good closer, there's no
- 39:25Speaker 2: reason to happen.
- 39:26Speaker 10: So what is your favorite Astros move as you're as
- 39:30Speaker 10: a fan that they made the trade deadline that you
- 39:34Speaker 10: that still sticks out is like, Okay, got him over
- 39:37Speaker 10: the hump, got him into the World Series exactly.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, even though that wasn't a technically the normal trade.
- 39:45Speaker 9: Deadline because it was after the deadline r right.
- 39:47Speaker 2: But it's a it's the waiver trade. I still don't
- 39:50Speaker 2: understand how all that works, but and that that doesn't
- 39:52Speaker 2: exist anymore, so I don't have to understand how work, right,
- 39:55Speaker 2: But yeah, that was easily the best move. I don't
- 39:58Speaker 2: care who who you give up for, and they did
- 40:00Speaker 2: give up, you know, a future major leaguer, Jake Rogers
- 40:04Speaker 2: was in that trade, but they didn't. I really don't
- 40:07Speaker 2: think they gave up any big, big names that I
- 40:09Speaker 2: can remember, unless I'm just forgetting somebody obvious.
- 40:12Speaker 9: But yeah, I don't remember who they gave up.
- 40:15Speaker 2: And like the Garrett Cole trade, I don't think that
- 40:17Speaker 2: wasn't trade deadline, but they gave up some big names
- 40:20Speaker 2: in that, like Joe Musgrove, and I think I want
- 40:26Speaker 2: to say there was another outfielder that they gave up.
- 40:28Speaker 2: But anytime you give up big names for a proven
- 40:33Speaker 2: starting pitcher or position player, I'm okay with it because
- 40:37Speaker 2: those are the kind of guys that are usually consistent.
- 40:40Speaker 2: When you give up big prospects for relievers, I just
- 40:42Speaker 2: hate those moves all the time because believers are so mulatile.
- 40:45Speaker 9: So I have two.
- 40:46Speaker 10: Moves as a lifetime Rangers fan, but I'll never forget
- 40:50Speaker 10: twenty ten, they're leading the division, they make a move
- 40:54Speaker 10: it's in three prospects who really didn't pan out.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Yeah, get cliff Ley.
- 41:00Speaker 10: Cliff Lee is the reason the Rangers got to the
- 41:03Speaker 10: World Series. He did not pitch well in Arlington, but
- 41:06Speaker 10: oh he pitched so well against the Rays and the
- 41:08Speaker 10: Yankees and American League Championship Series. Didn't pitch well in
- 41:11Speaker 10: the World Series, but he got him to the World
- 41:14Speaker 10: Series the first time and the Rangers' history and then
- 41:18Speaker 10: twenty twenty three, this was actually pre deadline when the
- 41:22Speaker 10: Rangers were struggling bullpen, I mean blown save after blown save,
- 41:27Speaker 10: and they went out and they got rolled. As Chapman,
- 41:29Speaker 10: they gave up Cole Reagan's who was really really good
- 41:31Speaker 10: for Kansas City, and it doesn't look like his careers
- 41:35Speaker 10: on the same path it was. But there for a while,
- 41:38Speaker 10: Cole Reagans was gonna be being talked about as being
- 41:42Speaker 10: an elite pitcher in the American League for a while.
- 41:44Speaker 9: Again, I think.
- 41:44Speaker 10: He's falling off that, But it didn't matter to me.
- 41:48Speaker 10: Cole Reagans could be the next he could win ten
- 41:52Speaker 10: Cy Youngs in a row, and it wouldn't bother me
- 41:54Speaker 10: because Chapman was a huge part of not only winning
- 41:58Speaker 10: the World series even though the Astros owned him, I
- 42:02Speaker 10: mean literally owned him.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Yeah, they still do.
- 42:05Speaker 10: But against everybody else, he was really good and I
- 42:08Speaker 10: mean he he just made me nervous every time, uh
- 42:11Speaker 10: he came in against the Astros. But but they, for
- 42:15Speaker 10: whatever reason, the Astros just own him.
- 42:17Speaker 9: And then, of course the other moves we talked about was.
- 42:20Speaker 10: You know, they sent Akunya, who was a pretty big
- 42:23Speaker 10: prospect to get Shreser.
- 42:26Speaker 9: Shuser was pretty decent.
- 42:29Speaker 10: And not fantastic, not overpowering, but he was a steady
- 42:33Speaker 10: and force.
- 42:33Speaker 9: In that rotation.
- 42:34Speaker 10: And then obviously the Jordan Montgomery and Chris Stratton and
- 42:38Speaker 10: gave up some guys that I don't know, Thomas the
- 42:42Speaker 10: Geese may still be good for the Cardinals.
- 42:44Speaker 9: I don't know at the time, but it all worked out.
- 42:48Speaker 10: They won a World Series and so I don't care
- 42:49Speaker 10: what they gave up as long as they went. Now,
- 42:52Speaker 10: there's other trades that they've made that were terrible and
- 42:56Speaker 10: they didn't work out, and that's just a risky run.
- 42:59Speaker 2: So in my opinion, they.
- 43:01Speaker 10: Said a guy named Sammy Sosa to the White Sox, Yeah,
- 43:06Speaker 10: that didn't work out very well.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Yeah, But in my opinion, anytime you make a move,
- 43:10Speaker 2: especially if it's somebody that ends up being a big contributor,
- 43:13Speaker 2: and you win the big one, it doesn't matter what
- 43:16Speaker 2: happens to the players you gave up, Like like you
- 43:19Speaker 2: said with Cole Reagan's even if he wins Tensai Young's,
- 43:21Speaker 2: you don't wish they didn't make that trade because they
- 43:23Speaker 2: won the World Series. I will trade, you know, five
- 43:27Speaker 2: years of being a terrible team for one World Series
- 43:30Speaker 2: in a party.
- 43:31Speaker 9: So of the Seattle Mariners who've ever been there exactly.
- 43:34Speaker 2: But like you look at, you know, when the Rams
- 43:36Speaker 2: gave up all those players and picks to go be
- 43:39Speaker 2: able to get Matt Stafford from the Lions, and those
- 43:42Speaker 2: picks ended up being like Jamior Gibbs and Sam Laporta,
- 43:45Speaker 2: they don't care. They won a Super Bowl even if
- 43:47Speaker 2: they and they did well. The Rams didn't end up
- 43:49Speaker 2: being bad after that, But if they would have ended
- 43:51Speaker 2: up being bad, nobody would have cared because they won
- 43:53Speaker 2: the Super Bowl.
- 43:54Speaker 10: Yeah, you can always go back and say, well, what
- 43:56Speaker 10: if I mean is as long as it works out,
- 43:59Speaker 10: it pans out, Because like we're talking about the Blue Jays,
- 44:04Speaker 10: they went from almost winning the World Series knocking off
- 44:07Speaker 10: the Evil Empire, the other evil Empire on the West coast, right, Yeah,
- 44:12Speaker 10: and they were so close to winning it, and now
- 44:14Speaker 10: they're not really seriously a playoff team, I don't think.
- 44:18Speaker 10: And so from one year to the next, I feel
- 44:21Speaker 10: like it's worth it to go in.
- 44:23Speaker 9: What the Astros did, What the Rangers did?
- 44:26Speaker 8: You know?
- 44:26Speaker 9: They this made the farm system.
- 44:27Speaker 10: It's fine because the Astros won two World Series and
- 44:30Speaker 10: went to others. The Rangers won a World Series yep,
- 44:32Speaker 10: first one in their franchise history.
- 44:34Speaker 2: So it was the first one for the Astros in
- 44:36Speaker 2: twenty seventeen.
- 44:37Speaker 9: Yeah, right, so it's worth it.
- 44:39Speaker 10: And then again it was like to get there for
- 44:41Speaker 10: the first time, to get over the hump.
- 44:44Speaker 9: Cliff Lee only pitched for that He was.
- 44:46Speaker 10: A rental, but he was a heck of a good
- 44:48Speaker 10: rental and so they couldn't resign him because he hated
- 44:52Speaker 10: pitching in the heat.
- 44:53Speaker 9: He was terrible in Arlington.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but they imagine if they'd had Globe black Field.
- 44:58Speaker 10: But they used that money they couldn't sign Cliff Lee
- 45:01Speaker 10: with to go get a guy named Adrian Beltray. So
- 45:04Speaker 10: it was pretty good exchange right there.
- 45:06Speaker 2: That's one of the most I'm not even a Rangers fan,
- 45:09Speaker 2: and I love Adrian Beltray. He's just iconic.
- 45:11Speaker 10: Well, I'm not a Nationals fan, and I love Jordon.
- 45:14Speaker 10: I mean, I love to watch jord On. I just
- 45:17Speaker 10: that guy.
- 45:19Speaker 9: I don't I don't understand how anybody could not like
- 45:22Speaker 9: that guy.
- 45:22Speaker 10: He's just so so steady. So I think we talked
- 45:27Speaker 10: about last week when when he hit a home that
- 45:30Speaker 10: was a single against the Rangers, that was like an
- 45:32Speaker 10: impossible pitch to hit so far inside and he kept
- 45:36Speaker 10: it fair. It's just amazing when it.
- 45:38Speaker 9: Beltray was just a character though.
- 45:40Speaker 10: I mean he just getting thrown out of the game
- 45:42Speaker 10: from moving the on deck circle. I mean the fun
- 45:45Speaker 10: that he had, you know, kidding around with Elvis or
- 45:49Speaker 10: you know, just the funn he had with other with
- 45:52Speaker 10: other teams and opponents and umpires, just with some enjoyable
- 45:56Speaker 10: guy to watch.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah. But you know, the moral of the story, if
- 45:59Speaker 2: you are in a position to win big, go go
- 46:01Speaker 2: for it. Yeah all yeah, pull out all the stops.
- 46:06Speaker 2: With that theme of baseball continues, The Rangers Report is
- 46:09Speaker 2: brought to you by a Shulty, Roofing and Decker Financial Group.

- 46:32Speaker 16: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 46:34Speaker 16: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 46:36Speaker 16: roof in one day.

- 49:23Speaker 2: on A monday, Evening Caleb rapley filling in For chip
- 49:26Speaker 2: Alongside Rescy person and we will continue OUR Mlb Rangers
- 49:33Speaker 2: astros trade deadline talks. Here this has been the twenty
- 49:39Speaker 2: twenty sixth. SEASON i think it might might be the
- 49:41Speaker 2: most parody that we've seen in A Major League baseball
- 49:45Speaker 2: season in recent memory at. Least AND i think it
- 49:48Speaker 2: has to do with the expanded wild, card which you
- 49:51Speaker 2: know we're used to at this, point but it's only
- 49:53Speaker 2: been four years something like that since we've had. It
- 49:56Speaker 2: so it's still you, know it's still very, new but
- 49:59Speaker 2: it's just it's part of life IN mlb now and
- 50:04Speaker 2: it's definitely CREATED i, think more teams having an opportunity to,
- 50:10Speaker 2: contend AND i think it might impact this year's it's
- 50:14Speaker 2: gonna have a big impact on this year's trade, deadline
- 50:16Speaker 2: just because there's so many teams that are still can
- 50:19Speaker 2: see a path to the playoffs THAT i don't know
- 50:21Speaker 2: how many of them are going to. Sell like we've
- 50:22Speaker 2: talked About Trek scouble and whether or not he gets.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Traded you, know The tigers are six games below five,
- 50:29Speaker 2: hundred but only three and a half out of a wildcard.
- 50:31Speaker 10: Spot so BUT i think you have to look at
- 50:34Speaker 10: how many teams are in front of you in the wildcard,
- 50:36Speaker 10: too because that's a big deal because if you have
- 50:39Speaker 10: to jump one, Team.
- 50:41Speaker 9: Okay that's, fine that's.
- 50:43Speaker 10: Doable but if you have to jump four or, five six,
- 50:47Speaker 10: teams then you're gonna need a lot of help from other. Teams,
- 50:50Speaker 10: sure and at some point in, time like The, orioles
- 50:53Speaker 10: okay they're fifty one and fifty five are they're two
- 50:56Speaker 10: and a half back of the final. Wildcard but they're
- 51:01Speaker 10: they've got to jump a bunch of teams to. Do
- 51:03Speaker 10: they gotta, there they gotta jump To, twins The, mariners The.
- 51:06Speaker 10: Astros so are they? BUYERS i mean? REALLY i mean.
- 51:14Speaker 9: Twenty twenty, Three baltimore was supposed to be the team.
- 51:16Speaker 10: On the, rise, RIGHT i mean they were they, Were,
- 51:19Speaker 10: yeah they were going to be the team for the
- 51:21Speaker 10: next you, know ten years that we we thought and
- 51:25Speaker 10: then they've just kind of fallen off or like we've
- 51:27Speaker 10: already talked About toronto worst record in The American League.
- 51:31Speaker 9: East they were The American league champions last. Year who
- 51:34Speaker 9: would have thought The WHITE soxd be in first place
- 51:36Speaker 9: this deep into the.
- 51:37Speaker 10: Season and The central is not not that. Good it's
- 51:41Speaker 10: it's better than The, west but it's not that. Good
- 51:45Speaker 10: there's only a handful of really good. TEAMS i mean
- 51:47Speaker 10: you you look at The, dodgers you look at The,
- 51:49Speaker 10: brewers The.
- 51:50Speaker 9: Braves in The.
- 51:51Speaker 10: National, league The phillies have come, on but they're still
- 51:54Speaker 10: five and a half back of The. Braves and then
- 51:57Speaker 10: the team in The American league has been the best
- 52:00Speaker 10: pretty much all year.
- 52:00Speaker 9: Long is the?
- 52:01Speaker 2: Race and where did they come? From because the last
- 52:05Speaker 2: year was the first, time AND i don't know how
- 52:07Speaker 2: long they missed the playoffs right.
- 52:09Speaker 10: Well and they've gotten some big performances and again they're
- 52:13Speaker 10: pitching really well like they always. Do AND i, guess you,
- 52:17Speaker 10: know being back in that dumpy little ballpark has really
- 52:19Speaker 10: uh given them a, lift you.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Know, YEAH i mean it helps The trots for. Sure,
- 52:25Speaker 2: yeah it's you know what it's, Like.
- 52:29Speaker 10: We've played so many games already and they're the difference
- 52:32Speaker 10: between so many of these teams is so, little and
- 52:35Speaker 10: so that's, why you, Know i've already said, this BUT
- 52:37Speaker 10: i think The American Leg west is probably gonna come
- 52:38Speaker 10: down the last week the season and who can stay
- 52:41Speaker 10: the healthiest and you, know who gets hot at the right.
- 52:45Speaker 10: Time and you know that's The astros have won five
- 52:49Speaker 10: out of six and if they can keep that, going
- 52:51Speaker 10: then you know that they suddenly become. Buyers And i'm
- 52:55Speaker 10: as a Longtime rangers, Fan i'm leary of The astros for.
- 52:59Speaker 9: Sure if they get high.
- 53:00Speaker 2: And absolutely they can.
- 53:02Speaker 10: Score and you know that's one thing that The rangers
- 53:05Speaker 10: have struggled with for most of the. Year The mariners can't.
- 53:09Speaker 10: Score so the one team in The west who can.
- 53:12Speaker 10: Outslug you is The.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Astros so The west is really the only division that
- 53:19Speaker 2: there haven't, been you, know just a couple contenders separate
- 53:23Speaker 2: themselves with every other. Division like there's this WEBSITE i
- 53:26Speaker 2: like to go. On that's the division race. Charts so
- 53:31Speaker 2: it's like got all the teams on their own separate
- 53:33Speaker 2: line and it's you, know it's a line. Graph so
- 53:36Speaker 2: with The central you can see The White sox and
- 53:39Speaker 2: The guardians separate themselves from pretty much everybody else about Mid.
- 53:42Speaker 2: May in The Al, east it was pretty much the
- 53:46Speaker 2: end Of april that The yankees And rays separated themselves
- 53:49Speaker 2: from everybody. Else in The Al, west it has been
- 53:52Speaker 2: back and forth and back and forth and back and. Forth,
- 53:54Speaker 2: right it was The, a's it was The. Mariners now
- 53:57Speaker 2: it's The. Rangers it was The astros for like two
- 54:00Speaker 2: days In, april.
- 54:01Speaker 9: Wasn't it The angels? Early weren't they.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Like The angels for like the first four games of the.
- 54:05Speaker 9: Season, okay, yeah they got off to a fairly decent,
- 54:08Speaker 9: start you, know and so but, yeah you're you're exactly.
- 54:12Speaker 9: Right it's, crazy crazy.
- 54:14Speaker 2: YEAR i THINK i don't know if this is a
- 54:17Speaker 2: one hundred percent, true BUT i think that every team
- 54:20Speaker 2: in the division has been in every place in the.
- 54:22Speaker 2: DIVISION i think that's probably. TRUE i think every team's been, first, second, third,
- 54:26Speaker 2: fourth fifth at some.
- 54:27Speaker 10: Point so The astros got a challenge in terms of
- 54:30Speaker 10: not overlooking The angels and when you go out there
- 54:34Speaker 10: and there's nobody out there In anaheim and there's no
- 54:37Speaker 10: excitement out, there but they face a really strong picture
- 54:40Speaker 10: tonight In you're, right The rangers went out there In
- 54:44Speaker 10: june and got. Swept i'm, like you've got to be kidding.
- 54:47Speaker 10: Me but, yeah it's, baseball so anything can, happen and
- 54:51Speaker 10: so that's why you got to bring it. In if
- 54:56Speaker 10: The astros can stay, hot then that makes this series
- 54:59Speaker 10: this weekend really really big because if The rangers take
- 55:03Speaker 10: one out of three In, tampa that'd be fine with.
- 55:07Speaker 10: Me but it's gonna be a big series In.
- 55:11Speaker 9: Houston.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Yeah before The Rangers mariners game, today each of the
- 55:16Speaker 2: top three, Teams, Rangers, Mariners astros were five and five
- 55:19Speaker 2: in their last. Ten so nobody wants right to win the.
- 55:21Speaker 2: Division it's, Hilarious.
- 55:23Speaker 9: But no one is so bad that they're falling completely off.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Exactly, yeah well that is no.
- 55:28Speaker 10: One no one except for the a's or a threat
- 55:30Speaker 10: to be and the a's and the angels are thought to
- 55:32Speaker 10: be The, marlins right.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Exactly, well that's about all the time we have. Today
- 55:37Speaker 2: we will take one more, break and then sends you
