- 2:40I appreciate your support. Fifty years of hip hop. Big shout out
- 2:46to hip Hop dx dot com, All hip Hop dot com, dj booth
- 2:51dot net, sometimes the Source magazine dot com, and a couple of places
- 2:55where I'm getting some of these stories from Let's get brighton to the Business L
- 3:01and l cooj to you or go to you and iced Tea are going hunting
- 3:14for iconic hip hop memori bilia. I refer to them ass treasures because I'm
- 3:20a hip hop head. This is a part of a new series by A
- 3:23and E in conjunction, I believe with the Universal hip Hop Museum which is
- 3:29being built. Yeah follow me, you know you're hiring and something like that,
- 3:35you got jobs, whatever. But I think this is a very very
- 3:40very very very dope idea. You know why, because of the fact that
- 3:50you have a hip hop museum that you want to be like the official hub
- 3:55for hip hop that people from out of town can come and visit. Maybe
- 4:00you do a Hall of Fame type thing and maybe that's where the ceremonies tend
- 4:04you know, take place or whatever. Just something to fish you for hip
- 4:08hop, right, And what better way to promote this build then to you
- 4:16know, like have a show dedicated to finding the types of items from hip
- 4:24hop history to put in the museum and to learn about some of those stories.
- 4:30It's almost like a preview to the museum before the museum is up,
- 4:33right, So you would like you see something you would want to like go
- 4:38right to check it out in person and learn a little bit more so,
- 4:41I think it's a very dope idea. There's some opportunities for myself to be
- 4:48a part of it, but I'm not going to talk about that until it
- 4:53becomes a reality. But nevertheless, this is an A and E show.
- 4:58It's called Hip Hop Treasures. This is a report from Deadline, able to
- 5:03premiere on August twelfth. If you're from the future, you are say,
- 5:08you've probably already been in a damn museum. It's your ansty Nevertheless, if
- 5:13you're not from the future, hip Hop Treasures, which will premiere on August
- 5:16twelfth on A and E, and it features these two mcs on a hunt
- 5:24for the genre's best known and best loved memorabilia. I saw and I'm not
- 5:32gonna play anything for you guys, and you know you just go check it
- 5:35out. Hip Hop dx dot com has a story on it that you could
- 5:42also check out. But I saw the trailer, and when I saw the
- 5:46trailer, I was like, I don't know if I'm gonna watch because,
- 5:49to be truly honest, y'all, as much as I watch TV, I
- 5:55don't watch a lot of TV. I watch more sports than anything, and
- 6:01occasionally, if if something hip hop related is dope enough that I really want
- 6:05to check it out. I will, and this seems interesting but in some
- 6:12ways for me personally, not you, but for me, I'm definitely gonna
- 6:16go visit the Universal Hip Hop Museum, right, And this is kind of
- 6:21like a spoiler for me. I like to walk into a museum where I'm
- 6:26interested in every damn thing in the morning and just know that I'm gonna probably
- 6:31read every damn thing in there, and I just want to I want to
- 6:35be like a kid in the toy store, you know, wherever those still
- 6:40exist, that walks in and it's just like, oh, you know,
- 6:44it's Jammaster Jay's chain, you know, and oh you know Onyx suits from
- 6:49the Throw Your Guns in the Ad video, and you always ice cubes Jerry
- 6:55Curl. But I mean, I'd be amazed if Jerry curls there but now
- 7:00still wet from the eighties or the nineties. But you know what I mean,
- 7:04I kind of don't want to know. And the trailer was like enough,
- 7:10But again, the museum is not gonna be open anytime soon, so
- 7:15who knows. Maybe maybe I'll check it out. Maybe I'll do another review
- 7:19series, right like I did with the woo tang thing. Have somebody you
- 7:24know, people who are watching it. I bring them in as guests.
- 7:27We talk about each episode, right, I don't know fan out or whatever.
- 7:30So you tell me in the comments section, is that was some kind
- 7:33of content you would like the watch, right and then maybe do another live
- 7:39stream. Who knows, but it sounds dope. Push your Tea recently shared
- 7:48a snippet from the Louis Vaton fashion show that went down where Pharrell, who's
- 7:58in charge? I guess of the earth been section of Louis Vuitton. But
- 8:05no, seriously, uh this was Farrell's, you know, debut of of
- 8:11the things he has designed. Jay Z performed. Jay Z's jack jacket was
- 8:16tough like it was tough, man. I was looking at that jacket like,
- 8:20I don't think I care how much it costs. I want it,
- 8:24Okay, do I got it? I don't know. But Farrell was kind
- 8:28of his ouph and I ain't gonna front him, Rihanna. I think Asav
- 8:33Rocky had the same thing going. That was that was Minecraft. Y'all come
- 8:37on now, stop the kids spot that from the Minecraft. I know Minecraft
- 8:41when I said that's what that was, But who knows, maybe somebody who
- 8:46like it or freaking in a certain way as far as what they have on
- 8:50with it, that it'll look dope. But to me it kind of looked
- 8:52like, Okay, Minecraft camouflage, Um, it is what it is.
- 9:00But Push Your T and No Malice were together and they have a song together,
- 9:07and it kind of leans towards the rumors of a possible Clips album,
- 9:13and just on the surface from what I heard beat wise and rhyme wise,
- 9:18it took me right back to that era Clips, and I was like,
- 9:24man, I can't wait till they like drop this album or whatever. But
- 9:31in the lyrics for Pushing T was some bars for Jim Jones, And if
- 9:37we rewind back, Jim Jones was basically talking down on a Push the T
- 9:43about him not necessarily having any like popularity or anybody really remembering a verse or
- 9:52him being cool, just all these kinds of things to dispel honestly, sound
- 9:58like dispelling what people about Push your Teeth like he's looking at him like,
- 10:01well, why is he popular? Right? How is he nice? When
- 10:07nobody can remember or recite some things he said? Right now? Jim Jones,
- 10:13it's the same thing for you, Jack, And we don't even know
- 10:16if you wrote half your stuff. I'm willing to put money down you haven't.
- 10:22But in those bars from push your t let me see if I have
- 10:26him, I do have him. So here's the bars that felt directed at
- 10:35Jim Jones, and I quote beware of my name. That's their delicate,
- 10:43delicate. You know I know where you're delicate. Crush you to pieces out,
- 10:50hume a breath out of it. I will close your heaven for the
- 10:54hell of it. You think i'd be valor amongst veterans. I'm watching your
- 11:01fame escape relevance. We all in the room. But here's the elephant you
- 11:07chase. You chasing a feature out of your element. And those lab diamonds
- 11:15under inspection, the question marks block your blessings. It's no tombstone in the
- 11:24desert. I know by now you get the message. He doesn't have to
- 11:31say anything else. If you don't get it, I'm sure I understand.
- 11:39Oh it's sirie Jim Jones on my watch. I don't know, but you
- 11:46don't have to. If you don't get anything that was said there, head
- 11:52over to hip hopdx dot com thank you again, so that you can you
- 12:00can read the words and comprehend them, or you can just rewind back what
- 12:05I said. But nevertheless, it's not about just insulting the person. When
- 12:13it comes to battling, it's about skill and technique and wordplay and the heaven
- 12:20and Hell lines room elephant like you have to catch those to understand how this
- 12:28little bit, these little bits of little bitty bits of bars are almost like,
- 12:37let's not even start this battle because it's over before it started. You
- 12:43know why, Because we know Jim Jones pedigree and he is not known for
- 12:48being technically sad. He can make some dope records. Don't Sleep El Cappo
- 12:54that was one of my albums of it. Yeah, that joint was crazy,
- 12:58But he's really just probably going to go the insult insult route because I
- 13:05don't know if he could rap to this level. But Jim Jones did respond,
- 13:09and this is what he had to say, and I hope people can
- 13:11hear it that that was not a top fifty verse fifty. So that's what
- 13:24he had to say. That's not a top fifty verse. Still down in
- 13:28my top fifty. Jimmy, what what are you even talking about? Who
- 13:33are you even talking to? Is this is somebody playing a trick and taking
- 13:39something else. You're absolutely you like you're talking about something totally different. Who
- 13:45said anything about top fifty? Who said anything about your top fifty? Here's
- 13:50what I found, Sirie. If you don't, all we're saying is,
- 13:56yeah, this smoke has your name on it. Address it. Jimmy's old
- 14:05enough to know real hip hop. He know real hip hop when he hear
- 14:09it. He know real hip hop battle when he got one. This ain't
- 14:15the days of joking and saying smacking koufies off, but they don't really got
- 14:18no bars. Stop playing with that man. He's warning you with this verse.
- 14:31So what I like to see I would I think curious to hear a
- 14:37jim I'm not writing them off, right, I'm not totally writing them off,
- 14:41but he needed to stop playing. You said what you said as an
- 14:45MC. The MC responded, and now you're sort of acting like you're above
- 14:54a real rap response by saying, oh not much fifty fifty. That just
- 15:00means the verse ain't ready yet from whoever rating it. Okay, it ain't
- 15:05ready yet, But Jimmy, you need some bars. I could give you
- 15:11something for pushing. I don't know if it'll help you, but to keep
- 15:13you, you know, a bove water at least least the water be ready
- 15:16to you to this area. I'm not gonna say it because then the pause
- 15:20gods are gonna come in and start saying, you know ao, so you
- 15:26know what I mean above water. So we'll see how this plays out.
- 15:33Not a battle that most should care about, but interesting nevertheless. And I
- 15:39think push your t just made it interesting for me because I almost believed that
- 15:46I didn't even acknowledge it when Jimmy first started talking. So we'll see.
- 15:54And lastly, Killer Mike put out a brand new solo album, I think
- 16:00his first solo album and well over five years. I think it's called Michael.
- 16:08It is fourteen tracks, fifty four minutes total. So basically the basic
- 16:19like if you want to put out an album and you're wondering how many tracks,
- 16:26how long, this is exactly what you should do. Especially for a
- 16:29listener like me. This is just enough for me to get the vibe of
- 16:33an album and break out. Now, those are you who watched this podcast
- 16:38or listen to this podcast? No, I listened to these like four reviews.
- 16:45I listen to these albums like more than once. But this is generally
- 16:48my impressions, but I have heard it at least three or four times.
- 16:53Right, and last week, if you're from the future, get your ass
- 16:59out of here. But last week I did my top five hip hop albums
- 17:03of the year so far. Well, I'm here to tell you I ain't
- 17:08always shure time. One of those albums just got bumped because Killer Mike has
- 17:17always been dope, right, especially what Run the Jews. I got something
- 17:22specially for y'all next week in regards to Run the Jews. But he's always
- 17:26been dope. I love the whole Run the Jews run. With that production
- 17:32combined with LP, who is also featured on this album, it's just I
- 17:37can't get enough of it. I love every time they drop it because it's
- 17:40always that music is just always different. Well, this project Michael by Killer
- 17:45Mike is no different. But it's not for those who are Run the Jews
- 17:52fans. It's not that even though there is a track that features that kind
- 18:00of production, but it's not that. This is such a great combination of
- 18:04solo Killer MinC, Run the Jewels, and just a veteran hip hop MC
- 18:11who has something to say. It's it's like an autobiography of a man's past
- 18:21and present, right and future in a lot of ways, very dope features.
- 18:27There's a ton of features on here, but y'all like that now.
- 18:30But the great thing about this album is the features work and they don't get
- 18:34in a way. Celo Green is on the title trackdown by Law, which
- 18:41is probably what grabs you the first time you press play, because that beat
- 18:47who That beat is so crazy that I think I put that on repeat before
- 18:52I finished the album because I just was like, Yo, this beat so
- 18:56crisp and it's knocking at I just want to hear it again right. Also,
- 19:03Masi's featured on this album I'm not Gonna go through Everybody. Todd Dallas
- 19:08signs on Hair Currency to Chains, Future LP obviously of Run the Jewels,
- 19:18Young Thugs on there, and also, as everybody had talked about on the
- 19:22track called Scientists and Engineers Are three thousand Now. Quick sidebar. What would
- 19:30have been a story on this podcast but it isn't anymore, is the fact
- 19:36that Killer Mike had confirmed that Are three thousand was working on a solo album,
- 19:41but then he backtracked on that and said he was really high during that
- 19:47interview, and that's incorrect. I think he was telling the truth. But
- 19:55I think that because of the type of artists Andrea three thousand is, he
- 20:03doesn't want to talk about anything unless he has what he wants from the project,
- 20:07which you can understand, right, because then you start building this anticipation.
- 20:12People make up in their minds what they think the album's going to be,
- 20:15and then sometimes those expectations aren't met and people are disappointed in Alice Whack
- 20:21and you blew it for him, right, So let it be a surprise.
- 20:26Let it be a surprise. Three Stacks got an album and is out
- 20:29now boom, So we'll see. But the reason why this album makes my
- 20:38top five of the year so far, and it's going to be really difficult
- 20:41to bump this one out, it is just because of the care that it
- 20:49was put into this album. Now, a lot of people, you know,
- 20:53when they pick their top five or whatever, they're just looking for artists
- 20:56to be dope spitters, have dope beats. They could head not too right,
- 21:03just have a vibe for me and your top five of the year.
- 21:07But for me, I think some of those albums can be the best of
- 21:11the year, right, Those types of albums but I think those that rise
- 21:15to at least my top five, they have to do more in a lot
- 21:21of ways, or they have to do that vibe extremely well, right,
- 21:26extremely well, to the point where it's infectious and I can't stop listening and
- 21:32I gotta give it up, Like, yo, this is just it.
- 21:34This is one of the top five. But with Michael, it's it's the
- 21:40it's the little things, right, It's the clarity in Big Mike's voice so
- 21:45you can hear his lyrics. It's the sincerity in his words, right,
- 21:48It's it's the delivery. Also, you have to convey your feelings in a
- 21:55way that connects with us, right, like whether we went through his situations
- 22:00are not, we understand it because he sounds so sincere and how he spits
- 22:07it right. The production, it just works where every track just works well
- 22:12for what the song is. Now, don't get me wrong, there are
- 22:15two or three songs here and there that didn't really blow me away as far
- 22:18as the production and the lyrics and the theme, but they fit well amongst
- 22:25the entire theme of the album. So I may not be crazy about the
- 22:30individual song, but I see how it fits into the overall theme, right,
- 22:37And then the features to have this variety of features on the album predominantly
- 22:44a lot of people from Atlanta, right, But it doesn't feel like,
- 22:49oh, well, I gotta make this Atlanta album, so let's do and
- 22:55talk about all the things that Atlanta so everybody gets it. If you don't
- 23:00know half the stuff that's being said, n't even know that the majority of
- 23:03the artists that are on here are from there, it wouldn't come across.
- 23:10And I think that's the dopest way to do it, because it's still repping
- 23:14Atlanta, right, They're still saying things that are unique to Atlanta. But
- 23:19it doesn't feel exclusive, right if you're not from there, it feels inclusive.
- 23:26It feels like, Yo, this is for my town, and this
- 23:32is how we present it, and you're welcome to join us, you know
- 23:37what I'm saying. So in a lot of ways, you know, it's
- 23:40a it's a personal telling of his life, as you know you can see
- 23:44with the album cover, you know it's a school picture of him in his
- 23:48younger days. But you get to learn a little bit more about Big Mike,
- 23:53I mean Mike the Killer Mike, and you know what his life has
- 23:59been up until this point, and it's just such an honest album, mature
- 24:07album that I think it's one of the best of the year, and it's
- 24:11in my top five of the year. Now what I moved out, Well,
- 24:15you're just gonna have to wait towards the end of the year to see
- 24:18what's still there. But it's easily in my top five as a result,
- 24:26because it's just a very dope album. So check it out when you get
- 24:29the chance. What do you think about Killer Mike's latest album, Michael,
- 24:33Are you're a fan of Killer Mike? Did this album make you a fan?
- 24:38Let me know in the comment section below. Also Push your T and
