- 0:00Speaker 1: Today's guest is an actor, a producer, an entrepreneur. He's
- 0:05Speaker 1: a real do-it-all type brother. He has a new film
- 0:10Speaker 1: out with Dave Bautista called The Wrecking Crew. Highly recommend it.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Great action film. He's out the mud and the water.
- 0:19Speaker 1: It's Aquaman. Today's guest is Mr. Jason Momoa.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Shine on me and I will find.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We'll be fine. We'll be fine.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I'm here to do the greatest Theo Vaughn interview ever.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Actually, it could be it. I'm trying to think if
- 0:49Speaker 1: we've had the greatest one. We had an Amish kid
- 0:53Speaker 1: that was pretty great. Oh, wow. He's pure Amish, too.
- 0:58Speaker 1: He's like, every now and then I'll sneak off to
- 1:00Speaker 1: the creek and we hide a cell phone down there
- 1:02Speaker 1: and we'll listen to a little bit of Def Leppard.
- 1:06Speaker 1: That was one of the best things I ever heard.
- 1:08Speaker 2: A little bit of portion sugar on me. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Fuck yeah, dude.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And I don't even think they have sugar, which is
- 1:13Speaker 1: the craziest part. So just down there listening to songs
- 1:17Speaker 1: about illegal ingredients. That's all they're doing, dude. Jason, thanks
- 1:22Speaker 1: for hanging out, man.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Thanks for having me, buddy.
- 1:25Speaker 1: We met at the 50th. I think it was the
- 1:29Speaker 1: 50th SNL. Yep. I just remember I was walking, and
- 1:32Speaker 1: then this big kind of, I would say semi-beautiful hand
- 1:36Speaker 1: just grabbed me. this thing that definitely, and immediately I
- 1:40Speaker 1: felt like I hadn't been in the gym. That was
- 1:41Speaker 1: like my immediate feeling. And then it just like pulled
- 1:44Speaker 1: me into like this orbit. And it was like, Hey man,
- 1:47Speaker 1: nice to see you here. And that was it, dude.
- 1:49Speaker 1: It was awesome.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It's just great to see you, man. Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 1: It made my day.
- 1:52Speaker 2: You make people smile. You make me smile. So I'm like,
- 1:54Speaker 2: when you see that, like it was a bit of
- 1:56Speaker 2: an overload there.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It was a lot.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And I feel like once you're talking, yeah. Like when
- 2:00Speaker 2: you're with Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro is on
- 2:03Speaker 2: one thing. And then, you know, I freaked out when
- 2:05Speaker 2: I saw Chevy chase and, This older lady's like, come here, darling.
- 2:11Speaker 2: You're the Aquaman. I was like, yeah. And she's like, Chevy,
- 2:15Speaker 2: get over here. Chevy, get over here. I'm like, oh,
- 2:17Speaker 2: my gosh. This is Chevy Chase's wife. And then she's like, Bill,
- 2:21Speaker 2: get over here. And I'm. Who's Bill? Murray. Oh, God.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. I'm sandwiched between them. And
- 2:29Speaker 2: I'm just going like, this beautiful woman brought this together.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Bill's like, who the fuck is this guy? And she's like,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and so was Chevy. And he's like, that's. That's the Aquaman.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Our grandchildren love him. Oh, yeah. But you just go like,
- 2:42Speaker 2: there it is.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Oh, that's cool.
- 2:44Speaker 2: See, in my mind, I was sandwiched. Yeah. But right there,
- 2:47Speaker 2: I'm a little bit more of the bun.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you seem like more of a bun.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah. You know?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Or like a nice rye or something. A pumpernickel.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But we were, that was, it was just a, it
- 2:58Speaker 2: was a crazy night, huh?
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a lot, man. I met Hanson.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Hanson was there. Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 1: They look like adult Hanson kids or whatever.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, because what year are you born?
- 3:08Speaker 1: I'm born in 1980. I'm 79.
- 3:09Speaker 2: There we go. So we know what Hansons look like
- 3:13Speaker 2: when they were bopping it out.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yeah, we know the real Hansons.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Yeah. I just gave my
- 3:19Speaker 2: son a cross colors. You remember that brand? It was
- 3:24Speaker 2: just this brand that I had when like crisscross came out.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And my son didn't know who that was. And it
- 3:31Speaker 2: was the year you were born, baby, when it came out? 82? 82. Yeah,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I think it was. Crisscross, cross colors. Anyways, I just
- 3:38Speaker 2: gave it to my son, and I was just dating myself, man.
- 3:41Speaker 2: But it was a moment. I've been unpacking my old
- 3:46Speaker 2: stuff and giving it to my son, and he loves
- 3:48Speaker 2: it because all that stuff's cool again. Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Oh, that's a good point. Yeah, things come back around.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 1: You grew up in Hawaii?
- 3:56Speaker 2: I was born in Hawaii. Yeah. And my parents got
- 3:59Speaker 2: divorced when I was little, and I moved to Iowa.
- 4:01Speaker 2: But like- Bridges of Madison County, Iowa.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Dude, Meryl Streep, Bridges of Madison County.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Man, boom.
- 4:06Speaker 1: One of my favorite books. The book and the movie,
- 4:08Speaker 1: it's identical. It's like word for word. Yeah, the movie's
- 4:14Speaker 1: the exact way of the book. Not that that matters
- 4:16Speaker 1: or anything.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So I'm like, graduated, you know.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Did you go to University of Iowa?
- 4:21Speaker 2: No, no. I actually went to, we like to make
- 4:23Speaker 2: fun of it, University of Southern Ankeny. I went to DMACC,
- 4:26Speaker 2: Des Moines Area Community College. And then went to.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Is that still open?
- 4:31Speaker 2: It is, DMACC. And then I went off to get
- 4:34Speaker 2: in-state tuition in Colorado. And I went, I was living
- 4:36Speaker 2: out in Colorado state and I was working with the
- 4:38Speaker 2: trail crew out there and working at Lee's Cyclery and
- 4:41Speaker 2: Bazzetti's and all these different bus and tables and shit,
- 4:44Speaker 2: trying to get in-state tuition, trying to postpone college as
- 4:47Speaker 2: much as possible.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And then. Trying to postpone it or stay in it.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Well, just trying to get in-state tuition so I could
- 4:52Speaker 2: do wildlife biology there. But I want, I went to school.
- 4:55Speaker 2: It's weird because when I was in Iowa, I did
- 4:57Speaker 2: marine biology. They have a place called central campus. where
- 5:00Speaker 2: all these different schools would go into Des Moines, and
- 5:03Speaker 2: you would learn marine biology, and I'd have like a
- 5:05Speaker 2: shark tank, and I had my own eel, and you'd
- 5:08Speaker 2: learn about all these different things, and I always wanted
- 5:09Speaker 2: to be a marine biologist, and we'd spend our spring
- 5:11Speaker 2: breaks down in the Keys, so we'd get in the
- 5:13Speaker 2: yellow bus, go all the way down from fucking Iowa,
- 5:16Speaker 2: all the way down to the Keys.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Damn, that's so far.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and we'd study with scientists, but I did that
- 5:22Speaker 2: two years, credit for college, and then I was going
- 5:25Speaker 2: to go, like, over summertime, I was like, I'll go
- 5:27Speaker 2: to Hawaii, Since I'm Hawaiian, maybe I'll get a better
- 5:30Speaker 2: deal going to college. And a TV show came. That
- 5:34Speaker 2: was it? And I was just surfing with my family,
- 5:37Speaker 2: a pretty big surf family. And then a show came,
- 5:42Speaker 2: and I ended up getting it, and it changed everything.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I was 19.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And you were working. But they had the ant.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That's him?
- 5:50Speaker 2: Yeah, dude. Don't, don't, don't, don't.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Don't what? Get some lotion out?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 5:59Speaker 1: To rub on the picture. Have some respect, guys. Dude,
- 6:05Speaker 1: that's wild that you got to live.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I was 19, man. That was crazy. My job before
- 6:09Speaker 2: that was bussing tables, yeah, working at a surf shop.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I bussed tables, bro. I was one of the first
- 6:14Speaker 1: bussers to ever use creatine in Arizona. South of Phoenix,
- 6:17Speaker 1: I was one of the best bus boys there was,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I think, for probably about a two-and-a-half-year period.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Is that where you went to, Arizona?
- 6:23Speaker 1: I went to University of Arizona for one year, and
- 6:24Speaker 1: then I went to some other schools, but... Dude, I
- 6:27Speaker 1: was so good at busting tables, man.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I would take all the food because I
- 6:32Speaker 2: worked at a really nice restaurant. Yeah. And we were
- 6:35Speaker 2: all my buddies that lived together. It was a bunch
- 6:37Speaker 2: of climbing dirt bags. And I'd bring this nice pasta
- 6:39Speaker 2: home because, you know, if the couple didn't look too
- 6:43Speaker 2: sus and they left their stuff. Yes. You know, you
- 6:46Speaker 2: just box that in and bring it home. And so
- 6:48Speaker 2: I always had like the best restaurants pasta.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Dude, I worked at a place called Dakota's Wine and Feed.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And the guy there was taught, like there was this
- 6:57Speaker 1: perverted manager who would kind of teach us how to
- 6:59Speaker 1: do like, he would like kind of like oral sex
- 7:02Speaker 1: on women, but just like in conversation. Anyway, that guy
- 7:06Speaker 1: was a complete pervert, but I will tell you, not
- 7:07Speaker 1: in person, not with a real woman, just, he would
- 7:09Speaker 1: like tell us young kids, like how to do it
- 7:11Speaker 1: and stuff. And we didn't know what was going on, dude.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Like I remember when he would talk about it, all
- 7:14Speaker 1: the pimples on my face would like explode at once. Um,
- 7:17Speaker 1: But anyway, that was beside the point. But they had
- 7:20Speaker 1: very nice food there. And I remember if I'd see
- 7:22Speaker 1: a couple, if they used their knife, that to me
- 7:24Speaker 1: was like, oh, they're fancy. I can eat off of
- 7:26Speaker 1: their plate. So if the knife was dirty, I would
- 7:29Speaker 1: definitely take a little bit of that, like some cured
- 7:30Speaker 1: ham or some specialty meats on there. And I'd get
- 7:33Speaker 1: a stack of like some like special sandwich that was
- 7:36Speaker 1: made of all types of stuff.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 7:38Speaker 1: It was nice. That's back.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Feeding the homies. Yeah. And back then it's like when
- 7:42Speaker 2: you're at your mom's house your first time out, you're like,
- 7:45Speaker 2: Orange juice was like champagne. If someone had orange, I
- 7:47Speaker 2: was like, oh, my God, I haven't had orange juice
- 7:48Speaker 2: in fucking, because it all went to beer and fucking booze.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Right? Milk, never saw it again. You live in Moms Island,
- 7:55Speaker 2: fuck milk. And then it was basically water, beer. My
- 8:01Speaker 2: dad still kind of had to pay child support, so
- 8:03Speaker 2: that was like that paid rent. And I could just
- 8:05Speaker 2: save enough bus and tables where I could work just Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I'd go rock climbing and snowboarding. So it'd be Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 8:14Speaker 3: and Thursday I'd come back.
- 8:15Speaker 2: So I had like four, I had a little plan,
- 8:17Speaker 2: you know?
- 8:18Speaker 1: And were you with like a certain group of friends
- 8:20Speaker 1: from growing up or was it just, is it still
- 8:22Speaker 1: like a core group or was it just guys?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, there's one guy. I didn't have too many friends
- 8:25Speaker 2: growing up. And I mean, I had friends, but like
- 8:28Speaker 2: true buddies, they're in my neighborhood, but they stayed there.
- 8:32Speaker 2: There's one guy, he is my best friend to this day,
- 8:36Speaker 2: godfather of my kids. He went out to Colorado first.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So he was one year older. And then I went
- 8:40Speaker 2: out there to be with him. And he's my best bud.
- 8:43Speaker 2: So it was just us running amok.
- 8:46Speaker 1: So much fun. Colorado is so awesome.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It is. It was good.
- 8:48Speaker 1: God, I love being out there. It's that the altitude
- 8:51Speaker 1: always gets me so much, dude. I get affected pretty
- 8:54Speaker 1: easily by the environment.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It's got to be hard for you to go from
- 8:58Speaker 2: Nashville to here because you get dry. Like, I just
- 8:59Speaker 2: came from New Zealand right now. And last night, I'm like,
- 9:02Speaker 2: I felt sorry for my lady because I'm just like.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Up wheezing? I'm just drying out like.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Just shedding a skin in the bed.
- 9:09Speaker 2: It's just fucking dry. I mean, it's summer down there.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, New Zealand is a– dude, I met people
- 9:16Speaker 1: like– I'm like, what are you talking about? You're not
- 9:20Speaker 1: using any letters. They have people there. It's like– I
- 9:23Speaker 1: think that's Australians, but yeah. Oh, we went to New Zealand.
- 9:26Speaker 1: We had some shows down in Auckland, and we met
- 9:28Speaker 1: people just like– We met guys who like– it was
- 9:34Speaker 1: like they had a sentence stuck in them. They just
- 9:36Speaker 1: couldn't get it out of them no matter what. Like
- 9:38Speaker 1: the people there that talked were just– anyway, it was
- 9:40Speaker 1: just some of the craziest lingo I'd ever heard. But
- 9:43Speaker 1: one of the most beautiful places, we went to– we
- 9:45Speaker 1: got to meet Israel Adesanya down there because he lives there.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yep, stylebender.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Yep, and they were super nice to us whenever we
- 9:51Speaker 1: went over there. But we went to the beach one day,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and they said you can only be outside of the
- 9:55Speaker 1: beach for a certain amount of time because they don't
- 9:56Speaker 1: have that much marine layer.
- 9:58Speaker 2: They don't have the ozone. Ozone layer. You're fried.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Dude, I was like, it's so beautiful, but you got
- 10:04Speaker 1: to go back inside.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I know it never told me to go back inside, but,
- 10:07Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, if you're sitting out there, you're going
- 10:08Speaker 2: to feel it. Like, you just feel yourself cooking.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Like, yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, well, at a certain point, you should go in,
- 10:13Speaker 1: I think.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you definitely should.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Or just stay out there and grill, maybe. Yeah. Um,
- 10:19Speaker 1: so you went to, you went from Des Moines community college, DMACC.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yep.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And then you ended up over in Colorado.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yep. I went to Colorado and then went to Hawaii
- 10:28Speaker 2: to get to just to kind of be on my father,
- 10:30Speaker 2: get to know him better. And was he cool? My
- 10:32Speaker 2: dad's great. My dad's he's, he's, he's awesome. But just, um,
- 10:37Speaker 2: I'd go there when I was young, like eight, nine, 10,
- 10:39Speaker 2: you know, like basically, um, when I was young enough
- 10:42Speaker 2: to comprehend it and bright enough to be with my mom.
- 10:44Speaker 2: And then I'd, I'd go until like high school years.
- 10:47Speaker 2: We had probably a bit of a falling out. So
- 10:49Speaker 2: I didn't go too much. And maybe my sophomore, junior,
- 10:51Speaker 2: senior year. So once I, I was like, I'm going
- 10:54Speaker 2: to go back, be with dad, bury the hatchet and, uh,
- 10:57Speaker 2: see if I can get into college over there. And, um,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and then, like I said, show came and changed my life.
- 11:03Speaker 2: And then kind of tried to, you know, tell my mom,
- 11:07Speaker 2: like I'm on this show. And she's like, what are
- 11:09Speaker 2: you talking about? You know, like, My mom's in the
- 11:12Speaker 2: same house I was raised in. Wow. She's like, what
- 11:14Speaker 2: are you doing?
- 11:15Speaker 1: Are you doing something with Satan?
- 11:16Speaker 2: I know. She's like, you're on Baywatch Hawaii. I was like, Mom,
- 11:19Speaker 2: I'm like, it's not what you think. It's like a
- 11:21Speaker 2: whole different spin on it. They're in Hawaii. And she's like, what?
- 11:25Speaker 1: It's a whole different spin. They're in Hawaii.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I mean, Hasselhoff wasn't really on it anymore,
- 11:29Speaker 2: but they're trying to change it up. So anyways. Dang.
- 11:35Speaker 2: And then I spent the next 30 years digging myself
- 11:38Speaker 2: out of that hole.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Cheers to that. And here we are now.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And so, so your mom is a white woman and your,
- 11:45Speaker 1: your father is more Islander.
- 11:47Speaker 2: My dad's Hawaiian. Yeah. My mom is basically German Irish.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Is there a lot of beef between Hawaiians in Hawaii
- 11:55Speaker 1: of like the, are there different kinds of sex of
- 11:57Speaker 1: like S E C T S of Hawaiians, like different
- 12:00Speaker 1: kinds of like, or is it, if you're a Hawaiian,
- 12:02Speaker 1: you're Hawaiian?
- 12:04Speaker 2: I mean, that's a good question. I wouldn't say it's
- 12:07Speaker 2: like sex. Um, Definitely, you know, back in the day,
- 12:11Speaker 2: there was different islands were different Kings until it was
- 12:15Speaker 2: United by command, but not everyone loves command. He could
- 12:19Speaker 2: have been with Kahiki. They could have been different. You
- 12:21Speaker 2: could have been with different islands and that obviously to
- 12:24Speaker 2: unite them, your family could have been murdered. So I don't,
- 12:26Speaker 2: I don't think everyone sees eye to eye, but having
- 12:29Speaker 2: said that, like we are, you know, since we are
- 12:32Speaker 2: a part of America now, like I think all those generations,
- 12:34Speaker 2: you know, our, our culture and our language was completely
- 12:37Speaker 2: removed from us, like most indigenous races. And, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 2: really trying to get it back. And I don't necessarily
- 12:44Speaker 2: think there's, like, sex to it. Right.
- 12:47Speaker 1: So there's not, like, so people aren't, like, that tribal.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I mean, the tribal would not be in Hawaii.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I'll tell you what, not as much as, like, if
- 12:54Speaker 2: you were to compare it to New Zealand where there's,
- 12:56Speaker 2: I don't, don't quote me, but there's 200 plus different iwis,
- 13:01Speaker 2: different tribes in Marais.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, I met some iwis over there.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, whereas the South Island, there's one, like, Naito, who's
- 13:07Speaker 2: just one tribe on the South Island. The North Island
- 13:09Speaker 2: has many. So it definitely has to go through a
- 13:11Speaker 2: lot more if you're trying to agree on certain things.
- 13:15Speaker 2: It's got to go through more people. Got it.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And did your dad have a lot of, is he
- 13:20Speaker 1: a very Hawaiian kind of guy?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Very much so. I mean, in the sense of like.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Because there's so much pride in that culture. It's such
- 13:27Speaker 1: a unique culture.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I come from the west side of Oahu. My
- 13:30Speaker 2: dad lives in Nanakuli. Most of my family's like Nanakuli, Waianae,
- 13:33Speaker 2: and then Makaha. And that whole west side is called
- 13:37Speaker 2: Hawaiian Homestead Land. So it's like our reservation kind of.
- 13:40Speaker 2: isk kind of um thing and so um but my
- 13:44Speaker 2: father's very much a waterman and in that.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Sense what does that mean he likes to be out
- 13:49Speaker 1: in the water yeah or is that a specific.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Job outriggers uh paddling surfing he was a coach and
- 13:54Speaker 2: i mean just any a waterman as as in knowledge
- 13:57Speaker 2: of sailing knowledge.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Of anything out there and you're aquaman which is crazy
- 14:01Speaker 1: which is crazy that's crazy it.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Is and i've always wanted to my my my uh
- 14:07Speaker 2: my family's very much um Some of the last living
- 14:11Speaker 2: legends of surfing or of watermen is like my great
- 14:15Speaker 2: uncle's Buffalo Keolana.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Bring him up. See if we can get a gander
- 14:18Speaker 1: at him.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Buffalo Keolana and Brian Keolana is an amazing waterman too,
- 14:22Speaker 2: who's my cousin. And Rusty's a four-time world champion. So
- 14:27Speaker 2: I just come from a very, the Keolanas.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 14:29Speaker 2: That's Uncle Buff. Hell yeah, dude. Beautiful Hawaiian man, yeah?
- 14:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I've seen him on the pictures of
- 14:35Speaker 1: the bronzer at the tanning salon as well, I think.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I'll just say this. They're using his name, image, and
- 14:41Speaker 1: likeness over there, okay? It's Suntan City. I'll say that fast.
- 14:45Speaker 2: He's beautiful, yeah.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Dude, that's awesome.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I always wanted to be with him. But that's
- 14:50Speaker 2: kind of– that's the family.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And he still lives over there?
- 14:54Speaker 2: He does, yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Wow. Oh, that's beautiful, man. Yeah, I just want to
- 14:57Speaker 1: do Hawaiians feel like– it seems to me like Hawaiians
- 15:01Speaker 1: always feel like a responsibility to uphold their culture kind of.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Or that they're Hawaiian. There just seems to be a
- 15:08Speaker 1: certain level of respect that they carry about themselves with that.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I think that's true. I think there's a lot of
- 15:14Speaker 2: things that have happened to our people that have been
- 15:18Speaker 2: very challenging in what's happened and getting our identity back,
- 15:24Speaker 2: getting our culture back, getting our language back. So I'm
- 15:28Speaker 2: sure there's a lot of things, yeah. There's a lot
- 15:32Speaker 2: of terror and trauma that's happened to the Hawaiian Islands.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Dang.
- 15:36Speaker 2: There's a lot. Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I think when you have something beautiful, people want it,
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know?
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It's so nice over there, dude. I even, dude, I
- 15:44Speaker 1: even remember one time I was drowning over there and
- 15:47Speaker 1: I remember being like, where else am I going to drown? Like,
- 15:51Speaker 1: it was so nice. I remember looking back at the shoreline,
- 15:54Speaker 1: literally I was snorkeling and I wasn't doing well. I
- 15:57Speaker 1: was losing. And, um, I remember looking back at the
- 16:00Speaker 1: shoreline and I thought I was going to drown. And
- 16:01Speaker 1: I was like, what? Dude, where else are you going
- 16:04Speaker 1: to drown? You know, you're going to drown in a
- 16:05Speaker 1: Hampton Inn pool somewhere, like, you know, outside of Jacksonville
- 16:09Speaker 1: or something. No, dude, this is where you do it,
- 16:11Speaker 1: you know? And so there was almost this crazy moment
- 16:13Speaker 1: of peace with just how beautiful it was there, you know?
- 16:16Speaker 1: It's a really special place.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Where were you at when you were drowning, man?
- 16:19Speaker 1: I was off of, I was in Maui.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Was there waves? Was it just because of deep water?
- 16:24Speaker 1: There were waves, but it was like.
- 16:25Speaker 2: You just got a little too carried away and you
- 16:26Speaker 2: got too far out maybe?
- 16:28Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, I went snorkeling and it was by myself.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And bad idea, huh?
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yeah it's bad to do anything yeah go in the
- 16:35Speaker 2: water and do that by.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yourself yeah and that's what I realized it was kind
- 16:39Speaker 1: of fun and I remember I got out there a
- 16:41Speaker 1: little bit and I was like oh man and then
- 16:44Speaker 1: I would see the fish but then the water would
- 16:46Speaker 1: go down and then I would just be like almost
- 16:48Speaker 1: like trying to like not get on the coral or
- 16:49Speaker 1: whatever like being like that and then we'd go back
- 16:52Speaker 1: it was just like it just got super scary and
- 16:54Speaker 1: then I was further and further out and I started
- 16:56Speaker 1: getting really really spooked yeah well there's just different rips
- 16:58Speaker 1: too yeah yeah I caught a bad rip.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I think, yeah, every surfer, you know, everyone drowns.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Have you ever been in a drowning before out there?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Very much so. No way. Yeah, I've drowned. And it's just,
- 17:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's a beautiful teacher, man. The oceans of,
- 17:15Speaker 2: I mean, she's the ultimate teacher. So it sucks. Drowning sucks. Yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 2: There's no way about it.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Yeah, RIP, man. You just see your slow death. It sucks.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Everything flashes in and you can't move your arms anymore
- 17:27Speaker 2: and you're going down and can't breathe. That's when I
- 17:29Speaker 2: used to smoke. I smoke cigars still, but it took
- 17:32Speaker 2: me a while to get back to it. But I
- 17:34Speaker 2: used to smoke like two packs a day. It was pretty. What?
- 17:37Speaker 2: Just love, love, love. And then I'd try to slow down.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I'd be like, roll a pouch. And then I'd burn
- 17:42Speaker 2: a pouch in a day.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Just rolling yourself?
- 17:45Speaker 2: I just loved tobacco.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Damn. I can't believe I was a damn smoker. That's inspiring, actually, dude.
- 17:51Speaker 1: You can do anything, people.
- 17:53Speaker 2: And that was a hard one to quit. I mean,
- 17:54Speaker 2: that's for sure shit. But it's like, I think smoking was,
- 18:00Speaker 2: I couldn't stop for my, you know, for my family.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And then when I drowned, you know, someone took my breath.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I came out of that water and that thing died.
- 18:10Speaker 2: And I mean, I tried really hard to stop many times.
- 18:13Speaker 2: And I came out. And if I tried to smoke,
- 18:14Speaker 2: I'd vomit. Like, it might, that part of me just
- 18:17Speaker 2: died because of it. It took my breath, and I
- 18:20Speaker 2: had to go through it. And then the reason I
- 18:23Speaker 2: got saved is I actually hit the outer reef because
- 18:27Speaker 2: I was over a half mile offshore. It's just there's
- 18:31Speaker 2: two reefs. I was on the outer reef of Maui,
- 18:33Speaker 2: and I was doing some coast paddling, and I hit
- 18:37Speaker 2: the reef, and it just touched my toe. And I
- 18:42Speaker 2: just bubbled down, grabbed the reef, and just jumped up
- 18:44Speaker 2: and then had another wave, and I just held on
- 18:46Speaker 2: to the reef and waited. I was out there for
- 18:49Speaker 2: a while. Dang.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Who rescued you?
- 18:51Speaker 2: I was with Laird. I was out surfing with Laird.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I saw him once at a Whole Foods.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah. It sounds on point. Is that on brand?
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 2: But yeah, and Dave Kalama and my friend Joe Flanagan. Yeah,
- 19:06Speaker 2: but it was my leash snapped. I was stuck out
- 19:08Speaker 2: in the middle of the ocean. And it was just
- 19:10Speaker 2: very windy and took the board and I was gone.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And smoking was done for you?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, never smoked again. Damn. Look at you guys over here.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Just type quick and get it up. Boom, boom, boom.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I was looking at your new film. It's called
- 19:27Speaker 1: The Wrecking Crew.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I'm excited for you to see it. It's funny. I
- 19:31Speaker 2: saw it. Oh, you did?
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Oh, thank you.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I've seen it, dude. I know the premiere was last night,
- 19:35Speaker 1: so sorry I missed that. But no, I saw it
- 19:38Speaker 1: on my computer. They sent me a screener of it. Yeah, dude,
- 19:41Speaker 1: it's great. And it's so beautiful. It's so nice to
- 19:43Speaker 1: be able to just, you feel like you're in Hawaii
- 19:45Speaker 1: for a while. Yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 2: You know, it's just the movies we grew up with, right?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Lethal Weapon, 48 Hour, all these things, buddy cop movies. Yeah.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I did a TV show with David Bautista. He played
- 19:56Speaker 2: my brother in Sea on Apple. Oh, yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 1: And he plays your brother in this, go on.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And we just were really, got really close. And it's like,
- 20:03Speaker 2: you know, in this business, when you meet somebody you
- 20:04Speaker 2: really like, you're like, oh, we should. And the next
- 20:07Speaker 2: one would be fun to do a comedy instead of
- 20:08Speaker 2: covered in blood and us beating each other. And it was,
- 20:12Speaker 2: so we, I had this, this pitch to him and
- 20:17Speaker 2: I had, now it's been for two decades. One of
- 20:19Speaker 2: the first things I ever wrote as a pitch packet
- 20:21Speaker 2: and told him. And the next day he just posted
- 20:25Speaker 2: it and put it out there and went viral.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And what about you guys doing it together?
- 20:29Speaker 2: Yeah. And then attach David Leitch to it. And like,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and basically like, this is what we're doing. Do you
- 20:33Speaker 2: like it? And everyone freaked out. My agent's calling me
- 20:36Speaker 2: going like, what are we doing? And like the next
- 20:38Speaker 2: morning I'm like, Dave, I didn't even know that Dave
- 20:40Speaker 2: would do that. And Dave just like, just did it.
- 20:42Speaker 2: It's like me going like, yeah, me and you were doing,
- 20:45Speaker 2: you know, twins. You know what I mean? It's just,
- 20:47Speaker 2: they just put it out there. Fraternal twins too. Yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 1: And people are like, I don't know.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:53Speaker 1: People are like, this is like before and after.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:57Speaker 2: And so, anyways, and our showrunner, Jonathan Tropper, ended up
- 21:01Speaker 2: writing it, and yeah, it's just a fun movie where
- 21:04Speaker 2: we want to do, laugh a little more, and it'll
- 21:07Speaker 2: make you cry. Working out the family trauma, you know,
- 21:11Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. It's never too late.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Yeah, there's some sweet stuff in it. The action is
- 21:16Speaker 1: really great. I loved it. I mean, it's just, it's
- 21:17Speaker 1: a nice, easy, it's an easy movie to watch, and
- 21:19Speaker 1: it's just super enjoyable, and it's beautifully shot. It's just like,
- 21:22Speaker 1: and it's just in Hawaii, just like, oh, if you
- 21:24Speaker 1: can't afford to take your wife to Hawaii.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Take her to see this movie.
- 21:29Speaker 2: That's the best pitch.
- 21:31Speaker 1: It's not bad.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Did you spend too much money this weekend? Can't quite
- 21:36Speaker 2: take her on vacation? The Wrecking Crew. You're welcome. Jason Mola, thanks, bro.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Just put a little cocoa butter on her arms and
- 21:44Speaker 1: take her to see The Wrecking Crew. Tell her it's
- 21:46Speaker 1: the same thing, okay? You got to tell her it's
- 21:49Speaker 1: the same thing, man. Was there ever a movie role
- 21:53Speaker 1: where you liked it kind of so much or the
- 21:54Speaker 1: environment that you were at you liked so much that
- 21:56Speaker 1: you're like, I wish I could stay here, I wish
- 21:58Speaker 1: this was my life, kind of?
- 22:01Speaker 2: That's an interesting question. Where you just want to stay
- 22:04Speaker 2: in that time period or in that place?
- 22:06Speaker 1: Yeah, or even as that person, even.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I don't think I've... You know, I did this show,
- 22:15Speaker 2: Chief of War, that came out last year, and I
- 22:18Speaker 2: think it was really cool because it's all about.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Is it on Apple TV?
- 22:22Speaker 2: It's all about Hawaii, yeah. It's like when they're uniting
- 22:25Speaker 2: the kingdoms. It would have been really beautiful to be
- 22:27Speaker 2: in Hawaii before the white man arrived and just kind
- 22:29Speaker 2: of see that time and place and, you know, see
- 22:32Speaker 2: what our people were like, our ancestors. It was so
- 22:35Speaker 2: special to make that show. And because, you know, you
- 22:38Speaker 2: grow up in Iowa and you watch it, like Last
- 22:42Speaker 2: of the Mohicans and Braveheart. You see all these things like, oh,
- 22:45Speaker 2: I would love to see my culture. I love samurai
- 22:47Speaker 2: movies or Native American movies. And all we had was paintings.
- 22:52Speaker 2: You know, my grandparents, they've never seen a movie. us
- 22:55Speaker 2: wearing all the regalia and going into the big battles
- 22:58Speaker 2: with no metal. So it's just brutal battles.
- 23:02Speaker 1: The UFC.
- 23:04Speaker 2: To the next level.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah, before they had it.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Fucking shark teeth, dude. Yeah, like you're ripping each other apart.
- 23:09Speaker 2: So just imagining that or seeing a movie on that scale,
- 23:14Speaker 2: it took me a long time to make that show because,
- 23:18Speaker 2: you know.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, that's beautiful. And also as a gay Mardi
- 23:21Speaker 1: Gras vibe as well, I'll say that. But that's just
- 23:25Speaker 1: a joke. I think it's very beautiful that you get
- 23:28Speaker 1: to even envision something like this. That's crazy, dude.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 23:33Speaker 1: It's crazy to even get to see moments like that.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Even just on a movie set or something like that,
- 23:38Speaker 1: it must be so bizarre to see moments like that.
- 23:40Speaker 2: You should see just the trailers or something when you
- 23:45Speaker 2: have some spare time. It's pretty wild. The fight scenes
- 23:49Speaker 2: in this are pretty wild.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's amazing.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Anyway, so that was the first thing I ever created.
- 23:55Speaker 2: So I was a co-creator and produced it, co-wrote it,
- 24:00Speaker 2: and directed the finale and started it. So that was
- 24:03Speaker 2: my big, that's.
- 24:04Speaker 1: My little love letter.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's my baby to my people.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Oh, that's beautiful, dude. And was that special to your
- 24:12Speaker 1: dad or special to some of your friends and family
- 24:13Speaker 1: from home?
- 24:14Speaker 2: I think everyone because all the people I was, when
- 24:18Speaker 2: I was 19, I hired on Baywatch to make up artists,
- 24:21Speaker 2: to craft services, to your drivers. They knew me when
- 24:24Speaker 2: I was 19. I'm coming back at 45 at the time,
- 24:27Speaker 2: 44 and coming back and making something like doing Baywatch
- 24:31Speaker 2: was just kind of shit. And then coming back and
- 24:33Speaker 2: doing something that's about our people. Yeah. There's a real
- 24:36Speaker 2: big honor, man, for sure. It's like, I mean, that's
- 24:38Speaker 2: my ultimate goal. I'm kind of done now. Yeah. I'm
- 24:41Speaker 2: just going to do fun, fun shit. And I want
- 24:43Speaker 2: to do comedy. Like we're gonna do a Minecraft with
- 24:45Speaker 2: Jack Black again.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Oh, nice.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Excited to do that. Thanks, buddy. Sorry about that.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You're good, man. when you were doing that show, did
- 24:55Speaker 1: you go to parts of the island and learn stuff
- 24:58Speaker 1: about Hawaii that you didn't know before?
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yes. Yes, but also, like, got to go and just
- 25:04Speaker 2: scout and go to places I've never been, meet uncles
- 25:07Speaker 2: and aunties and people who are just, know so much
- 25:10Speaker 2: about our culture. Like, we had to, yes, had to learn,
- 25:13Speaker 2: you know, we had to do it, we did it
- 25:15Speaker 2: in Alela, Hawaii, so.
- 25:16Speaker 1: You did it in where?
- 25:18Speaker 2: Alela, Hawaii, so we did it in our native language. Yeah,
- 25:21Speaker 2: native tongue. So all the other characters in here, I'd
- 25:24Speaker 2: say half of the cast, it's all Polynesia. So you
- 25:26Speaker 2: got to understand, like, there's, there's, there's Maori, New Zealand,
- 25:31Speaker 2: there's Samoan, there's, there's Tongan, there's, uh, there might've been
- 25:36Speaker 2: some Haitian, but like all of us and, and, and,
- 25:39Speaker 2: and Kanaka Maori, which is us, all these different people
- 25:42Speaker 2: who had different, their own languages, they had to learn
- 25:46Speaker 2: this ancient language. So like everyone in there doing that
- 25:49Speaker 2: is like, it's hard. It was the hardest for me,
- 25:51Speaker 2: but I thought it would have been a lot easier,
- 25:54Speaker 2: but it was very challenging for me.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Yeah, the Tongans are tough, huh?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Samoans and Tongans, yeah, they're all tough.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Who's the toughest one, though?
- 26:05Speaker 2: I mean, I wouldn't fuck with a Tongan.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Bring up a Tongan.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I wouldn't fuck with a Samoan. I'm good.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Pull up a pair of Tongans. I heard you should
- 26:13Speaker 1: never have just one.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I mean, look at that guy over there. I mean, yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 2: there you go. Click on that one. That guy on
- 26:20Speaker 2: the right?
- 26:20Speaker 1: Oh, my God. That guy is doing something different, huh?
- 26:26Speaker 2: You know what? We're all Aloha, so it's nice. We
- 26:28Speaker 2: don't have to get in a fight with a Tongan.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'm never going to. But that's wild.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Just Polynesians in general, man. They're just like, oh, it's
- 26:36Speaker 2: such a different breed.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Dude, you know who I like? Filipinos. They're kind of
- 26:42Speaker 1: like the comfortable Polynesians, you know?
- 26:44Speaker 2: There you go, yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And they're the smiling people, you know?
- 26:47Speaker 2: They are.
- 26:48Speaker 1: And they're the last people that most people see before
- 26:50Speaker 1: they die because a lot of them work in hospice care,
- 26:52Speaker 1: which is crazy. When you think about that, imagine you're
- 26:55Speaker 1: laying there and you open up a little and it's
- 27:01Speaker 1: just some Filipinos, dude. And they're just singing something nice
- 27:05Speaker 1: to you.
- 27:05Speaker 2: I mean, it sounds nice.
- 27:08Speaker 1: That's a portable Hawaii, dude.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I just hope my kids are there and they're looking
- 27:12Speaker 2: after me. I'm going to put that shit on them.
- 27:15Speaker 2: You put me in a home, I'm going to haunt
- 27:17Speaker 2: your ass. I'm going to fucking haunt your ass. You
- 27:19Speaker 2: put me in a home. Dude. I'm going to have
- 27:22Speaker 2: my fans break me out.
- 27:23Speaker 1: You think you'd be a good ghost, though, dude?
- 27:24Speaker 2: There's another script right there. Me and you old, we'll
- 27:26Speaker 2: just do all the old makeup.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah? Just us in our dying ages in a nursing home.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Our fans break us out.
- 27:33Speaker 1: And they break us out in them what?
- 27:35Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 2: We go to a Comic-Con for the old time days. Yeah.
- 27:40Speaker 2: And you interview them all. Yeah. We do like the hangover.
- 27:45Speaker 2: We just relive all the good times.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds just like the hangover. At least we'll
- 27:51Speaker 1: go see it, man. It's just time that we all
- 27:55Speaker 1: know that PrizePix is America's number one sports picks app
- 27:59Speaker 1: and the best place to win cash while watching sports.
- 28:03Speaker 1: The app is really easy to use. That's what I love.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Just pick more or less on two plus players and
- 28:10Speaker 1: lock your picks in. That's it. That's my favorite thing.
- 28:13Speaker 1: It's just simple. You pick more or less, and it's specific.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Now you got your guys in the game. And right
- 28:19Speaker 1: here's my lineup for the big game. Tell me if
- 28:22Speaker 1: you want. Look, I don't know what I'm doing, but
- 28:25Speaker 1: you can even follow me on PrizePix at TheoVon. And

- 28:55Speaker 1: You know, to me, the future of finances feels strange.
- 28:59Speaker 1: That's why I like to cover my bases. And when
- 29:02Speaker 1: I want to add more Bitcoin, MoonPay is usually the
- 29:06Speaker 1: first app I reach for. You don't need to buy
- 29:08Speaker 1: a full coin to And the whole process is clean, simple,
- 29:12Speaker 1: and easy to understand. MoonPay has become a major partner
- 29:16Speaker 1: of the show, and I've actually chosen to accept my
- 29:20Speaker 1: compensation from them in Bitcoin. The Bitcoin lives in my
- 29:24Speaker 1: personal MoonPay wallet, and it's fully in my control, control
- 29:29Speaker 1: de moi. No one else has access to it. With
- 29:33Speaker 1: the US dollar constantly moving up and down, this felt
- 29:37Speaker 1: like a smart way for me to diversify a bit.
- 29:40Speaker 1: and potentially get more long-term value out of the partnership.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Just keep in mind, even though MoonPay makes it easy
- 29:47Speaker 1: to buy crypto, you should always do your own research
- 29:49Speaker 1: and understand what you're getting into. Crypto can be volatile,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and there's always the possibility of losing money. MoonPay is
- 29:56Speaker 1: a tool to facilitate your transactions, not a source of
- 30:00Speaker 1: financial advice. Trade responsibly. If you're running a business on
- 30:03Speaker 1: a clunky old phone system, then you know that isn't
- 30:07Speaker 1: really good. It's like competing with one hand tied behind
- 30:11Speaker 1: your back. And every time you miss a call, that's
- 30:14Speaker 1: money left on the table. Thankfully, there's Quo, formerly OpenPhone.

- 31:03Speaker 1: with another service, Quo will port them over at no
- 31:07Speaker 1: extra charge.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Quo.
- 31:09Speaker 1: No missed calls. No missed customers. Me and David Spade
- 31:14Speaker 1: just made a movie, actually, that's going to come out
- 31:16Speaker 1: in like two months.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Yeah, we wrote it, funded it, everything.
- 31:19Speaker 2: I love David Spade.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Oh, he's the best, dude. Yeah. So I'm excited about that.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Tommy Boy, one of my favorites.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Oh, that was one of the best ever. Was there.
- 31:28Speaker 2: That's just an old-time buddy, or you just were like, yeah.
- 31:31Speaker 1: He and I became friends like four years ago, five
- 31:32Speaker 1: years ago, and we became really close friends. And then
- 31:34Speaker 1: we started... We had kind of an idea, and we
- 31:38Speaker 1: started writing, and it took like a year. And then
- 31:41Speaker 1: we decided to just self-fund it. And it was like
- 31:43Speaker 1: a $ 4 million budget, I think. And then I think
- 31:45Speaker 1: we got one investor. And yeah, and we made it.
- 31:49Speaker 1: We shot it in like 23 days.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Wonderful. What's this called? It was exciting.
- 31:52Speaker 1: It's called Busboys. It's about two guys who aren't doing
- 31:55Speaker 1: that good. And one of them loses his girlfriend to
- 31:59Speaker 1: a waiter at a restaurant. And so we figure if
- 32:02Speaker 1: we can become waiters, then everything will be great.
- 32:05Speaker 2: That's why you're still going to be at a busboy.
- 32:07Speaker 2: You're talking about like what we were talking about, like
- 32:08Speaker 2: professional busboys.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I've channeled. This wasn't, yeah. People are like, this is
- 32:13Speaker 1: just whimsical. What are you guys doing? No, this is
- 32:15Speaker 1: in me, bitch. You feel me? So, yeah, I definitely
- 32:19Speaker 1: channeled that. And David was a busboy, too, in Arizona
- 32:21Speaker 1: as well when he was growing up.
- 32:23Speaker 2: They wouldn't make me a waiter. That was my last job. Yeah,
- 32:25Speaker 2: I was a busboy at two places.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I could see that.
- 32:28Speaker 2: They wouldn't let me. They were trying to hold me down.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Dude, there's a glass ceiling.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yeah. I never made a waiter.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's everywhere.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Fuck waiters. Busboys are dope, dude.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Dude.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Busboys are dope.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Busboys are dope.
- 32:41Speaker 2: They're always the coolest. They're going to have the drugs.
- 32:42Speaker 2: They're going to know where the shit's at.
- 32:44Speaker 1: They're going to have the drugs.
- 32:44Speaker 2: They're going to have the bread. You know, they're hitting
- 32:46Speaker 2: the waitresses.
- 32:46Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 32:46Speaker 2: Like, busboys are dope.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Yeah, who's going to get extra butter?
- 32:48Speaker 2: They're in with the dishwasher and like, you know what
- 32:49Speaker 2: I mean?
- 32:50Speaker 1: Yeah, who's got extra butter?
- 32:52Speaker 2: The busboys do.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I love salt and pepper. Guess who's got that? Yeah, yeah.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Let's go see your waiter do that. No, they're off
- 32:58Speaker 2: fucking making more money than you.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Yeah, they're off counting. They're usually counting their money somewhere.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Not sharing their tips is what they're not doing. Type shit, homie.
- 33:05Speaker 1: That's what they're doing, dude. And who's got the extra salt?
- 33:08Speaker 1: You know what?
- 33:08Speaker 2: I'm going to tip my waitress less, and I'm going
- 33:10Speaker 2: to slip my busboy more. I haven't been doing that. Honestly,
- 33:13Speaker 2: where's the fucking busboy at? I'm going to throw the
- 33:16Speaker 2: homies or homettes some fucking loot.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Started at the bottom. It's all happened because of Reagan
- 33:21Speaker 1: because of trickle-down economics. Who started trickle-down economics? Bring that up.
- 33:26Speaker 1: It was Reagan, wasn't it? Give it to the waiters.
- 33:28Speaker 1: They'll give it to the busboys. That's not helping. I
- 33:30Speaker 1: was just at the nurses' strike. The largest nurses' strike
- 33:36Speaker 1: in New York City history is going on right now.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Right now? Yeah.
- 33:39Speaker 1: And I just came from it a little while ago.
- 33:41Speaker 1: And it was awesome. I like strikes because it's like
- 33:43Speaker 1: being in a parade, kind of because I'm from New Orleans.
- 33:46Speaker 1: So it's like you're definitely partying that a band out there. Yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 1: but it's the largest nurses' strike that's ever happened in
- 33:51Speaker 1: New York City. It's going on right now.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness.
- 33:53Speaker 1: See if you can play that real for me.
- 33:54Speaker 2: There you are.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Play it right there.
- 34:02Speaker 2: They're from New Orleans.
- 34:04Speaker 1: The band was pretty good. They played, actually, they did
- 34:07Speaker 1: Abbey Road. They did a whole album. Really? Which I
- 34:09Speaker 1: thought was impressive, dude. Even that one where it's like, bang, bang,
- 34:12Speaker 1: Maxwell Silverhammer came down upon his head. Yeah, they even
- 34:17Speaker 1: played that one. And they only had three instruments. But yeah,
- 34:21Speaker 1: I loved it. I really enjoyed that. My sister's a nurse,
- 34:23Speaker 1: so I was like, oh, this is going on, dude.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I'm out there.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Um, now did I think I would meet some hot nurses?
- 34:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 1: But a lot of them are men these days. Um,
- 34:33Speaker 1: which doesn't mean they can't be hot, but you know,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I had a different bedside manner in mind, you know?
- 34:38Speaker 1: So anyway, moving on Jason, you pervert. Um, so yeah.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Do you get to a point in your career? Cause
- 34:46Speaker 1: that is, it is interesting to, to, to, to hear
- 34:48Speaker 1: you say where you feel like, um, you have like
- 34:51Speaker 1: some personal achievement or some personal success or something where
- 34:55Speaker 1: you kind of feel like, okay, I'm okay. You know,
- 34:58Speaker 1: does that make any sense to you?
- 34:59Speaker 2: Kind of?
- 34:59Speaker 1: Cause we're all trying to, like, we're all trying to,
- 35:01Speaker 1: like everyone's trying to feel like, you know, we all
- 35:04Speaker 1: want to feel some sort of, a lot of people
- 35:06Speaker 1: want to feel some sort of success, right? I mean,
- 35:08Speaker 1: I noticed in my own life, what, what makes me
- 35:09Speaker 1: feel like, okay, I'm, I'm, I'm okay for me, you know?
- 35:14Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, it's a, it's a very calm, it's
- 35:20Speaker 2: a complex, I mean, there's many things I'm going through
- 35:23Speaker 2: and maybe that's just my age or like, you know,
- 35:25Speaker 2: I've been, like you were saying, trying to accomplish, get
- 35:28Speaker 2: to a certain place. And, uh, just because you, just because, uh,
- 35:39Speaker 2: even in those, in those worst times and like maybe
- 35:41Speaker 2: not doing the things I really truly want to be doing,
- 35:43Speaker 2: but I'm doing it to put food on the table.
- 35:45Speaker 2: And then I get to the place where I'm actually like, wow,
- 35:47Speaker 2: I'm producing, writing, doing all these things. And this is
- 35:51Speaker 2: my dream come true. Why am I, why was I
- 35:53Speaker 2: happier when I was in the fucking hole?
- 35:55Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Why was I happier back then? Is it just because
- 35:58Speaker 2: it's nostalgic? Is it, I mean, why was it because
- 36:01Speaker 2: I'm still hunting? I'm hungry. I mean, I got to
- 36:03Speaker 2: this place where I considered like, well, I don't have
- 36:06Speaker 2: any more per se dreams as an actor. Like I
- 36:10Speaker 2: never thought I'd get this far in the first place.
- 36:12Speaker 2: You know what I mean? The biggest dream to me
- 36:15Speaker 2: is like make a TV show or movie for my
- 36:18Speaker 2: people and make a real true authentic wine story. Like,
- 36:21Speaker 2: I did that. And, and the comic book I always
- 36:24Speaker 2: read when I was a kid and I, well, I'm
- 36:25Speaker 2: fucking playing him.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 2: And then you're like the video game that I fucking loved.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I'm fucking playing him too. And that's like, all these
- 36:33Speaker 2: things are great. And then sometimes you're, it's, but you're not,
- 36:39Speaker 2: why do you not feel.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Does that happen? You think even at like in career,
- 36:44Speaker 1: like you got such a great career, does it happen
- 36:45Speaker 1: even in careers like yours? Like, Do you think that's
- 36:47Speaker 1: just a human thing? I guess it's just a human thing. Yeah.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Yeah. But I just like, I just try to, I
- 36:52Speaker 2: just try to have gratitude and all of it, man,
- 36:55Speaker 2: because you know, I have so many friends that are,
- 36:57Speaker 2: maybe could be ill, sick, dying. And just, it's so,
- 37:03Speaker 2: I mean, I'm kind of the kind of person like
- 37:05Speaker 2: pretty high energy and I'm really, really generally happy. Like
- 37:09Speaker 2: I'm like Christmas morning every morning. I'm pretty fucking happy.
- 37:11Speaker 2: I don't need coffee. I'm jazzed. Dang. And so I love,
- 37:14Speaker 2: I love morning. I love being up and I, I
- 37:16Speaker 2: don't necessarily sleep that much. So I'll probably die earlier.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:21Speaker 2: But my days are filled.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yeah. They're going to be filled with fricking Filipinos as well, dude.
- 37:26Speaker 1: That's for sure. If this is the rate you're going at.
- 37:28Speaker 2: But I just, I can't sit still. And I think
- 37:31Speaker 2: if I don't have those things, I was pretty self-destructive
- 37:34Speaker 2: if I wasn't creating and constantly doing stuff. So I
- 37:36Speaker 2: think that's what gives me like, I don't necessarily think there's,
- 37:40Speaker 2: I measure it by oh, because I'm in this movie
- 37:42Speaker 2: or this and this and that. I'm actually like, there's
- 37:44Speaker 2: these little smaller things that I love doing.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Staying busy.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's like the things I really truly love.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Like I'm an environmentalist at heart. So there's, you know,
- 37:52Speaker 2: I work as much as I can with different, just,
- 37:56Speaker 2: it's all the things that, the little small things that
- 37:58Speaker 2: probably no one gives a shit about that I give about.
- 37:59Speaker 2: It's like trying to do those things that I really love.
- 38:02Speaker 2: And it's not about being necessarily seen, but it's trying
- 38:05Speaker 2: to help in certain things that I love and care about. Yeah.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Do you think like a lot of that stuff comes
- 38:09Speaker 1: back to you more? Like once you've kind of gotten
- 38:11Speaker 1: to a certain level or once you kind of, cause
- 38:13Speaker 1: life just kind of gets busy, like in your thirties
- 38:15Speaker 1: and forties, life gets busy.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And especially if you have a busy career like yours
- 38:19Speaker 1: or a career, we have to travel a lot and it's,
- 38:21Speaker 1: and it varies from place to place, location to location.
- 38:24Speaker 1: I find that it like, um, it just gets, it
- 38:27Speaker 1: gets hard to focus on some of the smaller things
- 38:29Speaker 1: that are more important to me sometimes. Um, So is
- 38:33Speaker 1: it easier? Do you feel like it's easier now in
- 38:34Speaker 1: your career to be able to have more time for
- 38:36Speaker 1: those types of things?
- 38:36Speaker 2: I don't have any time for those things. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I have a hard time saying no. So I say
- 38:42Speaker 2: yes to everything. And I'm like, I work a lot.
- 38:47Speaker 2: And so if someone comes in and I'm fully loaded,
- 38:48Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, I can't not say yes. And so
- 38:52Speaker 2: I don't know. Here's the thing. I'm doing everything I
- 38:55Speaker 2: love to do. Right. So I don't ever think of
- 38:58Speaker 2: it as work. I'm just doing things I love to do.
- 39:02Speaker 2: And so that's maybe the biggest honor of it all.
- 39:04Speaker 2: And I think, uh, I mean, that's why I want
- 39:06Speaker 2: my kids. Now they look at me, they like, Oh,
- 39:08Speaker 2: my dad does what he loves to do, which maybe
- 39:11Speaker 2: I didn't want earlier in my, in my life. It
- 39:14Speaker 2: was just like, make sure I can put food. It
- 39:16Speaker 2: was very worrisome earlier. Cause like I said, it wasn't
- 39:19Speaker 2: on the best shows.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:22Speaker 2: People were like, Oh, why don't you go do that
- 39:23Speaker 2: movie or that? I'm like, I didn't have an agent.
- 39:24Speaker 2: I didn't get called. Like I couldn't get those things.
- 39:26Speaker 2: And so now I'm in a good place, but I'm like, Oh,
- 39:30Speaker 2: i'm making it for lost time i'm like there's so
- 39:31Speaker 2: many things i want to do in this life and
- 39:33Speaker 2: so i'm it's a bit crammed in but i'm i'm
- 39:35Speaker 2: in i've i'm i'm kind of doing everything i love
- 39:39Speaker 2: yeah i wouldn't say i'm taking care of myself the
- 39:41Speaker 2: best but i'm like that's something's got to give i'm
- 39:44Speaker 2: like fuck that's why i'm this big burn this bitch down.
- 39:47Speaker 1: You know what i mean Well, if it's not, if
- 39:48Speaker 1: those are muscles.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Filipinos, here we go.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Yeah, here we go, dude. Fire up the feely truck, huh?
- 39:55Speaker 1: Back them up, dude. Let them in the room. But
- 39:59Speaker 1: what about you?
- 39:59Speaker 2: I mean, like, you're just blown up. And, like, in
- 40:03Speaker 2: your time, I mean, how does it feel to you?
- 40:05Speaker 2: Do you?
- 40:05Speaker 1: I think this year I started just recently started thinking
- 40:09Speaker 1: of having a little bit more, like, okay, I think
- 40:12Speaker 1: everything will be okay. Like I'll be able to eat
- 40:14Speaker 1: and have a roof over my head for the rest
- 40:16Speaker 1: of my life. So I have a little bit more
- 40:17Speaker 1: semblance of like, okay, what does things look like for
- 40:21Speaker 1: like those around me? What are some other things that
- 40:22Speaker 1: I can put my time into? Like I've been touring
- 40:25Speaker 1: mostly for probably about 17 years for probably half the weeks,
- 40:30Speaker 1: you know? And so this year I don't have any
- 40:33Speaker 1: tour dates. And so it's nice to like, be like, oh,
- 40:37Speaker 1: what does this look like? Like I had like two
- 40:40Speaker 1: months with no, three months with no tour dates. And
- 40:42Speaker 1: I was like, this is crazy.
- 40:44Speaker 2: What is this?
- 40:44Speaker 1: So there's still like a lot of podcasting and there's
- 40:46Speaker 1: still a ton of work to do with this, but
- 40:48Speaker 1: it's not like I have to travel as much. So
- 40:50Speaker 1: sometimes for the first time, it feels like my spirit
- 40:52Speaker 1: even can be in like one place where it can
- 40:54Speaker 1: like gather its thoughts, you know? Um, I feel like
- 40:58Speaker 1: I've just been playing hide and go seek with myself
- 40:59Speaker 1: for a long time, just even geographically. Uh, so having
- 41:03Speaker 1: some more, um, just, uh, having some more like solace
- 41:11Speaker 1: and being in one spot is, is really kind of
- 41:13Speaker 1: helped me just to start to get a look around me.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Do you go stir crazy? Cause we're such gypsy. We
- 41:18Speaker 2: have to, you know, our careers are.
- 41:19Speaker 1: A little bit, but sometimes that's a trap for me.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I know what you're like, Arnie. I'm like, Oh my God,
- 41:23Speaker 2: I would love to get some rest. Then you get
- 41:25Speaker 2: like rest for a solid week. And you're like, I
- 41:27Speaker 2: gotta get the fuck out of here.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I gotta get the fuck out of this rest. It
- 41:31Speaker 1: was like, my ass hurts.
- 41:32Speaker 2: My back hurts.
- 41:33Speaker 1: And you're in a rest area along the interstate.
- 41:36Speaker 2: You're like, this is insane. Like, Do you get that
- 41:38Speaker 2: where you're just like, oh, man, I got to get out?
- 41:40Speaker 1: Oh, for sure. But I think sometimes I got to
- 41:42Speaker 1: be careful because that's a trap, man. That's just the
- 41:44Speaker 1: devil trying to get me.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Back out there. Do you work with that in sobriety?
- 41:47Speaker 2: Like is that– is that a thing? Do you have
- 41:48Speaker 2: to– do you do AA?
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I go to AA meetings and I go to
- 41:52Speaker 1: that stuff. It's been like, you know, I've been in
- 41:54Speaker 1: and out of sobriety for 10 years probably, mostly in,
- 41:58Speaker 1: and so that's been good. So, yeah, I like it
- 42:01Speaker 1: just because otherwise, yeah, I just can't– like I'll do
- 42:03Speaker 1: too much of the– of the cocaine, to be honest
- 42:07Speaker 1: with you. I'll do too much of it. And so
- 42:10Speaker 1: I just don't want to be around it. I'll even
- 42:14Speaker 1: walk and just look straight at the ground and see
- 42:16Speaker 1: if anybody's dropped it, sometimes outside. I'll fucking run right
- 42:21Speaker 1: into something. What was that? Not an eight ball, I'll
- 42:25Speaker 1: tell you that. I just peeped this whole block. But yeah, man. Dude,
- 42:30Speaker 1: I'll tell you this crazy story. So one time my
- 42:32Speaker 1: friend and I And I didn't even know anything about drugs.
- 42:35Speaker 1: My friend and I are going to my apartment. He
- 42:37Speaker 1: was staying in town. He was staying in town. He's
- 42:41Speaker 1: getting out of the taxi. He dropped a little thing
- 42:42Speaker 1: of cocaine in the taxi. When I'm getting out, I
- 42:45Speaker 1: just see it on the thing. I pick it up
- 42:46Speaker 1: and put it in my pocket. So he didn't tell
- 42:48Speaker 1: me that he had ever done cocaine. And he'd been
- 42:51Speaker 1: doing it, but he didn't tell me, right? And I
- 42:53Speaker 1: just thought he was kind of itchy or whatever, you know,
- 42:55Speaker 1: because it was spring. And so we go in my apartment.
- 42:59Speaker 1: He's like, hey, man, will you help me look for something?
- 43:00Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah, what is it? And he, like,
- 43:02Speaker 1: wouldn't tell me what it was. And I'm like, that
- 43:06Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense, but, yeah, I'll help you, you know.
- 43:08Speaker 1: So me and him are walking around looking for something
- 43:10Speaker 1: that I don't know what it is, okay. And then
- 43:12Speaker 1: I kept sneaking off and doing the cocaine, right. So, dude,
- 43:16Speaker 1: now at one point he gave up and went to sleep.
- 43:20Speaker 1: I'm walking around my apartment looking everywhere for something. And
- 43:24Speaker 1: it was the drugs I was doing. Absolute insanity, dude.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Absolute insanity, bro. So, yeah.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I mean, people can get lost out there. But, yeah, dude.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Did you ever read that Miles Davis? Did you ever
- 43:39Speaker 2: read Miles Davis' biography?
- 43:43Speaker 1: Uh-uh.
- 43:43Speaker 2: There's this great part where he was up in Harlem. And,
- 43:47Speaker 2: you know, at the time, he was at the peak
- 43:48Speaker 2: of his career. He had this Lamborghini. Let's just say
- 43:50Speaker 2: it's like bright yellow. It's snowing outside. And he comes
- 43:54Speaker 2: up to this spot. And he's in Harlem, gets out,
- 43:58Speaker 2: goes in. And he's coming back out, and he gets
- 44:02Speaker 2: back in the car. He's got some drugs, comes back out,
- 44:06Speaker 2: gets in the car, looks down, and he's like, fuck. He, like,
- 44:10Speaker 2: drugs are all the coke is all over the floor,
- 44:14Speaker 2: and he's fucking freaking out. And then he thinks he's
- 44:16Speaker 2: going to get busted by the cops, so he just
- 44:18Speaker 2: gets out, goes back in, hides in his fucking closet,
- 44:22Speaker 2: waits it out for a couple hours, sweating it out,
- 44:24Speaker 2: and he's on the drugs.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Comes back out hours later. Car's still there because they
- 44:29Speaker 2: know it's Miles Davis. Open up the door and all
- 44:32Speaker 2: the drugs are gone. And he like clicks and he's like,
- 44:35Speaker 2: it was fucking snow on his shoes. Oh.
- 44:39Speaker 3: When he got in and like totally lost his mind,
- 44:41Speaker 3: like he thought he spilled all the fuck. I was like,
- 44:44Speaker 3: that's a good time.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Yeah. That was a pro story.
- 44:48Speaker 1: That's a good time, yeah. And he didn't drive, which
- 44:51Speaker 1: is the best part, guys.
- 44:51Speaker 2: That's the best part. Good job, Miles.
- 44:53Speaker 1: October 21st, 1972, Miles Davis, never mind, wrecked his Coke-filled
- 44:58Speaker 1: Miura and broke both of his legs. So he took
- 45:02Speaker 1: it for one lap. Jim Glickenhaus was the first person
- 45:05Speaker 1: on scene. Miles was in the hospital for a long
- 45:07Speaker 1: time and didn't play for almost a year.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Dang.
- 45:11Speaker 1: That'll make you quit doing drugs right there. That'll make
- 45:13Speaker 1: you quit smoking, dude. That's his... That's his drowning near
- 45:16Speaker 1: the reef right there.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Dang.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Dude, but if my legs were broken, I could still
- 45:20Speaker 1: do cocaine, I think. And I hate to say that.
- 45:24Speaker 1: And don't say that to your kids. So now you
- 45:29Speaker 1: have children?
- 45:31Speaker 2: I've had them, man.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you collect some along the way? I didn't
- 45:35Speaker 1: mean that, but did you have a family that you
- 45:37Speaker 1: had planned, or was it just kind of like did
- 45:38Speaker 1: you sort of have children?
- 45:40Speaker 2: No. Yeah, no, I was married and had kids, yeah.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Oh, nice, man. Was it cool being a father? Like,
- 45:45Speaker 1: was that like a scary thing for you?
- 45:47Speaker 2: It's actually funny. He just got into. Oh, yeah.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Beautiful kids.
- 45:52Speaker 2: He just got into acting. I mean, they've been acting.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Wolf is his name?
- 45:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Oh, that's a cool name.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Nicola Wolf. But he's going to be in Dune with me.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Dune?
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah, he's Leto Jr. Dang. So he auditioned on his
- 46:08Speaker 2: own and got it. Was he geeked? I mean, those
- 46:14Speaker 2: guys grew up watching me. You know, he was sitting
- 46:16Speaker 2: on Affleck's lap, and she's sitting with Gal, and, you know,
- 46:20Speaker 2: we're doing Justice League. They were, like, six and eight.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Wow.
- 46:24Speaker 2: When I did Justice League, they grew up on set
- 46:26Speaker 2: with me, so they just... Oh, so it's so much
- 46:27Speaker 2: of the world. Yeah, I mean, he was in a
- 46:28Speaker 2: Batman outfit for at least five years. Like, the kid
- 46:32Speaker 2: loves all that and loved Dune, and so, yeah, my
- 46:35Speaker 2: babies are... Lola's a singer, so she wants to continue
- 46:39Speaker 2: in music, and Wolf wants to do acting, so... Which
- 46:42Speaker 2: I was very... She's such a gnarly business. Yeah. I'm like,
- 46:46Speaker 2: go be a doctor. Use your brain. Yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 1: And go pay these nurses, doc. Um, actually it's the
- 46:53Speaker 1: hospitals that aren't paying them, but, um, yeah, dude, that's
- 46:56Speaker 1: gotta be interesting if your kid wants to go down
- 46:58Speaker 1: that road, but then you'll have a lot of experience too.
- 47:01Speaker 1: And you'll be there to help him be supportive in
- 47:02Speaker 1: that way.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. And he's doing it.
- 47:04Speaker 1: He's young, so we can try it out.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:07Speaker 2: Guide them. You got kids?
- 47:09Speaker 1: No, I don't have any kids yet. I want to
- 47:11Speaker 1: get some kids. I want to, uh, sorry. I would
- 47:13Speaker 1: like to have children. I'm not trying to get some kids.
- 47:19Speaker 2: No.
- 47:19Speaker 1: I want all kids to be free. If I don't
- 47:22Speaker 1: know them, I don't want to know them. That's my rule.
- 47:26Speaker 1: If I don't know kids, I don't want to know them.
- 47:28Speaker 1: People are like, hey, I want you to shoot my kids.
- 47:30Speaker 1: I'm like, fuck no. I don't want to meet your kids, dude.
- 47:33Speaker 1: People are perverts, man. These politicians.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Anyway, what else were we talking about? You got a
- 47:41Speaker 2: special lady you're with right now?
- 47:43Speaker 1: No, I don't. I get that.
- 47:44Speaker 2: That's another bird right now too.
- 47:46Speaker 1: What's that?
- 47:46Speaker 2: Your free bird, free bird.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Yeah. But I would like to have a, I would
- 47:49Speaker 1: like to have a spouse. I would like to have
- 47:51Speaker 1: a woman spouse too. And I would like to, yeah,
- 47:56Speaker 1: I would like to have that man. So it'll happen.
- 47:58Speaker 1: It's just like, you know, I just got, I think
- 48:01Speaker 1: for one, two, I've just been going all the time.
- 48:03Speaker 1: It was like, I'd be like, I'd be like dating
- 48:06Speaker 1: somebody and I'd be out of town for a while
- 48:07Speaker 1: and you come back and you're like, oh shit, I
- 48:09Speaker 1: forgot about this. Not in a bad way, it's just
- 48:10Speaker 1: like my brain was somewhere else. It's hard for me
- 48:12Speaker 1: to focus on stuff sometimes. So I think I just
- 48:16Speaker 1: feel like more of that semblance of like, okay, now
- 48:18Speaker 1: this maybe could be more manageable. But I got to
- 48:20Speaker 1: change some of my own ways and stuff like that
- 48:22Speaker 1: a little bit too and be more purposeful. I think
- 48:26Speaker 1: about just like, just different prayer and different things like
- 48:29Speaker 1: that overall, you know?
- 48:30Speaker 2: So. You come from a big family? You got brothers, sisters?
- 48:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I got three siblings. And one of them is married.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Your baby?
- 48:38Speaker 1: I'm the middle, one of the middle kids, two boys
- 48:40Speaker 1: and two girls. So we got a good little group. But, yeah,
- 48:46Speaker 1: nobody in my family can swim that good, though.
- 48:48Speaker 2: No?
- 48:49Speaker 1: Yeah, land people.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 48:51Speaker 1: If you need us, we'll be on the land, you know?
- 48:54Speaker 1: That's our motto, dude. That's our family motto. I'm going
- 48:58Speaker 1: to get it tattooed on my brother's back. When you
- 49:00Speaker 1: were in New Orleans, what kind of sports were you into? Basketball. Dude,
- 49:03Speaker 1: is it true that they have the team called the
- 49:06Speaker 1: Tall Blacks? Yeah. Is that true? The basketball team in
- 49:09Speaker 1: New Zealand is called the Tall Blacks?
- 49:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:11Speaker 1: That's freaking amazing, dude. We got... Yeah, in New Orleans,
- 49:16Speaker 1: we have... Well, we have some of the players are
- 49:17Speaker 1: kind of thick over there you know so we got
- 49:19Speaker 1: the round browns over there that's our team um no
- 49:23Speaker 1: offense zion williamson but his weight does fluctuate um and
- 49:28Speaker 1: he's cost our city a lot of money but what
- 49:30Speaker 1: is this yeah this is oh that's the new zealand
- 49:31Speaker 1: all blacks i don't know This is a bunch of
- 49:37Speaker 1: Ben Simmonses. They got maybe one and a half brothers
- 49:40Speaker 1: on this team, dude. And this, but hey, that's awesome though.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Good for them.
- 49:45Speaker 2: You a big basketball fan?
- 49:47Speaker 1: I like college football. It's probably my favorite.
- 49:49Speaker 2: College football. Who's your team?
- 49:52Speaker 1: I'm a Tennessee and a LSU guy. So those are
- 49:54Speaker 1: my squads. What about you?
- 49:55Speaker 2: I don't do college football that much.
- 49:58Speaker 1: You didn't get into it with your size? I'm sure
- 49:59Speaker 1: they were like, get out here.
- 50:00Speaker 2: I was hockey.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Really?
- 50:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:03Speaker 1: You were goalie?
- 50:04Speaker 2: Soccer. No, I was center. I love soccer, too, man.
- 50:09Speaker 2: I play soccer. But then I was a skateboarder. You
- 50:12Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, they all want you to
- 50:13Speaker 2: get into wrestling. Yeah, that's weird. That's weird. But if
- 50:16Speaker 2: you were a surfer, that makes sense. Yeah, no, I
- 50:18Speaker 2: just grew up skating. I wasn't always this big. I mean, like,
- 50:21Speaker 2: you know, but that's what I was doing when I
- 50:23Speaker 2: was little and took that into high school. But I
- 50:25Speaker 2: love skateboarding. And then, surprisingly, my main love is rock climbing. Yeah.
- 50:31Speaker 2: So I traveled the world rock climbing, and that was
- 50:33Speaker 2: kind of my thing.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Did you ever go rock climbing with– Jarmo? Jared Leto?
- 50:38Speaker 2: No. No. Oh, I mean, I've seen him out when
- 50:40Speaker 2: we've been climbing.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:41Speaker 2: He loves it. He does. He climbs a lot with Honnold. Honnold.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Oh, Alex Honnold?
- 50:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Oh, cool.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Yeah. He climbs a lot with him. They do like
- 50:49Speaker 2: the old cap and all that kind of stuff together.
- 50:51Speaker 1: He took me to a party here one time. I
- 50:52Speaker 1: just remembered in New York and everybody was kind of
- 50:55Speaker 1: dressed like they look like different birds and stuff. It
- 50:57Speaker 1: was pretty crazy. Yeah. And there was no air conditioning
- 50:59Speaker 1: in the place. It was like fancy. It was, it
- 51:03Speaker 1: was bizarre, but it was what you would expect out
- 51:05Speaker 1: of him. Yeah, that's people out on the rock right there. Yeah,
- 51:09Speaker 1: rock climbing is pretty amazing, isn't it?
- 51:11Speaker 2: I love it.
- 51:12Speaker 1: What makes you love it so much?
- 51:14Speaker 2: Well, it's something I did when I was little. At
- 51:15Speaker 2: the first moment, my mom took me climbing in South Dakota,
- 51:18Speaker 2: and when I touched the rock and just moved on,
- 51:21Speaker 2: it just felt like I'm probably better at climbing than
- 51:24Speaker 2: I am at walking. My body just feels– it's just
- 51:27Speaker 2: something that you connect with that you really enjoy. Yeah.
- 51:29Speaker 2: But I love just the fear and the problem-solving and
- 51:33Speaker 2: the fear of it all. Cause like we'll do like
- 51:35Speaker 2: deep water soloing now and you, my or kind of
- 51:37Speaker 2: like climb up and then you fall down in the water.
- 51:39Speaker 2: But it's just like the challenge of like, I love,
- 51:44Speaker 2: I love climbing stuff. When I was a kid, it's like,
- 51:45Speaker 2: how do you not like, I love climbing trees. I
- 51:47Speaker 2: love just climbing. So I don't know. I'm a fucking gorilla.
- 51:50Speaker 2: I don't know what to say. Yeah. Being in the dirt.
- 51:53Speaker 2: And I just enjoy taking my kids, my kids do it.
- 51:56Speaker 2: And it just keeps us out in nature. Something to do,
- 51:59Speaker 2: I guess it'd be like fishing or hunting like for
- 52:01Speaker 2: other people, but like being in nature and, Oh yeah. And, uh,
- 52:05Speaker 2: Going to do adventures and, you know, setting out to
- 52:08Speaker 2: do something and accomplishing it. But also the other thing, too,
- 52:11Speaker 2: is I think I'm very, very much– and I'm not
- 52:15Speaker 2: diagnosed ADHD, but I'm just– there's a lot of things
- 52:18Speaker 2: going on. And I feel like when I ride motorcycles
- 52:20Speaker 2: and I go rock climbing, it's just like you can't
- 52:23Speaker 2: do anything else but be there. So that's just like
- 52:25Speaker 2: a little bit of my therapy or meditation is like
- 52:27Speaker 2: that's when everything just gets real clean and clear.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Makes you focus in.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. What you get– you know, everyone gets– high
- 52:34Speaker 2: on that or loves that you know i mean when
- 52:36Speaker 2: you can really mind body spirit connects and you oh
- 52:39Speaker 2: yeah something that's what.
- 52:40Speaker 1: You you know oh yeah when you're zipping down on
- 52:43Speaker 1: a freaking motorcycle you can't yeah it's hard to be
- 52:45Speaker 1: like i gotta do that email or whatever which.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Is like everyone you're in a car you're like you
- 52:49Speaker 2: know doing your makeup you're eating food you're talking to
- 52:51Speaker 2: someone you're paying attention to shit where you're riding motorcycle
- 52:53Speaker 2: it's you're you're gonna die if you fucking if you're
- 52:57Speaker 2: up if you're doing your makeup while you're riding your
- 52:59Speaker 2: motorcycle you're fucked.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Yeah it's not easy Unless they come out with those
- 53:02Speaker 1: self-driving motorcycles, which I read about. That's going to be–
- 53:05Speaker 1: I'm like, what are we doing now? Self-driving motorcycles?
- 53:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:08Speaker 1: That's not what we need.
- 53:10Speaker 2: No.
- 53:12Speaker 1: A lot of organ donors are motorcyclists. And I didn't
- 53:15Speaker 1: mean to say that out loud to you, but you
- 53:17Speaker 1: knew it.
- 53:17Speaker 2: I'm an organ donor. A lot of them are. You're
- 53:19Speaker 2: an organ donor? A lot of them are. Yeah.
- 53:21Speaker 1: You keeping them?
- 53:22Speaker 2: No. No. Yeah. I don't know if anyone wants them.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Fucking pickled. I'm actually waiting for this AI and shit
- 53:29Speaker 2: to come around and go like, yo. Two new kidneys,
- 53:33Speaker 2: livers and kidneys right here.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Let's go. Livers and kidneys, dude.
- 53:36Speaker 2: That's what I need, bro. Oh, yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 1: I want a fresh sack of lungs, boy, them inner tits. Yeah.
- 53:41Speaker 2: And then just nail them again. 30 more years just
- 53:45Speaker 2: bashing these bitches up. Yeah, dude. Toughen up, fucker.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Bro, that'd be crazy. You're like 95.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Swap them out?
- 53:51Speaker 1: You're like, yeah, I'm 95, but I got a seven-year-old liver. Yeah.
- 53:55Speaker 1: You're just partying on that thing? Just getting hammered drunk
- 53:57Speaker 1: on one Bud Light. Fucking sick. Sleep in somebody's boat
- 54:01Speaker 1: or whatever. You know, one thing I wish I had

- 56:38Speaker 1: Rates may vary. Um, When you, what else was I
- 56:43Speaker 1: going to ask about? Oh, what made you and Dave
- 56:45Speaker 1: Bautista become such friends, do you think?
- 56:49Speaker 2: Well, we do a lot of action. And generally, there's
- 56:53Speaker 2: not a lot of big guys that are good actors
- 56:56Speaker 2: and do action. It's kind of a rare thing to
- 56:59Speaker 2: have all of them. And I think Dave is a
- 57:03Speaker 2: phenomenal actor. And I really wanted to fight him and see.
- 57:07Speaker 2: And I was like, dude, I would love to go
- 57:10Speaker 2: toe-to-toe with him. And it's just kind of like, yeah,
- 57:13Speaker 2: I respect them. And I, and then when we met,
- 57:16Speaker 2: we're very different, but like super, you know, um, there's
- 57:22Speaker 2: no ego. There's no, like, we're very supportive of each other.
- 57:26Speaker 2: We understand the story. Like, it's just a wonderful, when
- 57:28Speaker 2: you find an acting partner that you just, you're there
- 57:31Speaker 2: for the story instead of like your career, you're a
- 57:35Speaker 2: lot of guys, a lot of famous dudes can't bleed
- 57:37Speaker 2: or can't get hurt. I'm like, fuck, I die in everything.
- 57:40Speaker 2: Like my kids beg me not to die anymore. I'm like,
- 57:43Speaker 2: that's how you fucking eat. I'm like, you're not going
- 57:47Speaker 2: to die again. I'm like, everything. That's how you have
- 57:51Speaker 2: your life. So I'm not afraid to do all that
- 57:55Speaker 2: kind of stuff and bleed. And I think Dave likes
- 57:58Speaker 2: to get down and dirty, too. But he's just a
- 58:02Speaker 2: really great guy. The reason why we want to do
- 58:04Speaker 2: it again is because it's just a good working relationship.
- 58:08Speaker 1: Yeah, his acting is great.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Yeah. I saw him in Blade Runner, and I just
- 58:11Speaker 2: thought he was phenomenal in it. He was so subtle.
- 58:14Speaker 2: He's very just like the opposite of me. I couldn't
- 58:18Speaker 2: be subtle if he tried.
- 58:20Speaker 1: I think you did a great job in this movie, man.
- 58:22Speaker 2: Thanks, bud. Yeah. Thank you.
- 58:23Speaker 1: I don't know if I even pay attention. I guess
- 58:26Speaker 1: it's like if you're not paying attention, if you're not
- 58:28Speaker 1: noticing the acting, then it's great, right? Isn't that usually
- 58:30Speaker 1: kind of the thought?
- 58:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, if it's not tripping you up, yeah.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Do you feel like it's gotten easier to act over time?
- 58:39Speaker 1: Do you start to just understand it better? Does it
- 58:41Speaker 1: become a little bit more like a muscle? What is
- 58:42Speaker 1: that like?
- 58:43Speaker 2: I just think I'm getting chances to do it now.
- 58:47Speaker 2: I've never even been in a rom-com. My first comedy
- 58:51Speaker 2: was last year with Jack Black doing Minecraft. So it's
- 58:56Speaker 2: just now finally catching on that I can.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Do other stuff?
- 59:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not just getting my ass kicked and dying
- 59:03Speaker 2: all the time.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not just a bouncer who's freaking going to
- 59:07Speaker 1: the salon or whatever.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 59:08Speaker 2: I think after like game of thrones like people didn't
- 59:10Speaker 2: know what to do with me so it's like he
- 59:11Speaker 2: didn't speak english so that was like what the fuck
- 59:13Speaker 2: do you do with drogo we're like who are we
- 59:15Speaker 2: gonna put is that in that rom-com drogo is i
- 59:18Speaker 2: mean he's handsome like let's let's get that motherfucker i
- 59:21Speaker 2: don't i hope he speaks english like he's french you
- 59:24Speaker 2: know i mean like what are you gonna have This
- 59:28Speaker 2: is hilarious. That's great. Have you ever gotten to spend
- 59:31Speaker 2: any time with Jack?
- 59:32Speaker 1: I haven't gotten to spend any time with him.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 59:35Speaker 1: So funny?
- 59:36Speaker 2: No, he's just like the greatest human, man.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Wow.
- 59:41Speaker 2: You just would love just being with him. He's so
- 59:43Speaker 2: much fun.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Oh, that's great.
- 59:45Speaker 2: And it's just like he's that all the time. Mm-hmm.
- 59:48Speaker 2: You know, after work, we go eat together. I just
- 59:50Speaker 2: like people who, they don't act one way, and then
- 59:55Speaker 2: when work's over, there's someone different. I wear my heart
- 59:58Speaker 2: on my sleeve. This is exactly who I am. This
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: is what you're going to get. Here we are. Yeah.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Do you ever get people that confuse you for people
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: a lot? Because I'll have people come up to me sometimes,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: and they think I'm Tony Cavallaro. Do you get people
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: like that sometimes, I think? Or even like this, if
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: you walked in downstairs, somebody might think you're Joaquin Phoenix downstairs.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: because how he did that Letterman.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Remember?
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Pull up Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman that time.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: What?
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: See if we're close or not. Yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Oh, that's pretty much it, bro. There's my twin brother
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: right there, dude.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: If you were Joaquin Phoenix today this whole time.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Bro, put these on.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: If you tell me you're Joaquin Phoenix, bro, it's going
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: to get crazy in here.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Oh, wow, huh? I'm fucking blind. Yeah.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, dude.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: It is her. Yeah.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: I wear this so I can see.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Those are prescription.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I wear glasses.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Dude, I wear glasses.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Mine are downstairs. My eyes are going bad.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: I just can't do contacts. Can't put them in, man.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I'm not putting a little thing like that in my eye,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: like a little sight.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Would you ever get the little surgery?
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: I don't think I would. I don't want somebody going
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: in my eye.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: I don't want that.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: While I'm laying there like some pedophile.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: I don't think you look like that guy. But do
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: you know who the Dancing Outlaw is?
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: That guy that does that, the Tennessee two-step guy?
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Yeah. There he, there you are.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Oh, that guy. What's his name? Jessica White? Bro.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Dude, you could totally play Jessica White.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: You could.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: You, dude, not me.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you were saying you look like him.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: No, man. Pull up the one where he's got no beard.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: That one in the middle. Dude, that's you for days.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Oh, God. Listen, I said nice things about you. I know, dude.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Dude.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: This guy.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: No, you don't get Jessica White?
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: This guy is a fucking listening to methadone all day,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: which is a band. But it's only, yeah, I'm joking. Okay.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: All right. My bad.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: No, that's okay. Is there any recent, is there a
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: recent interview with Jessica White or did he pass away?
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: He passed away. Damn. You should listen to the way
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: he talks. It's probably because you guys, maybe it's because
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: you sound familiar.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: That's him?
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: No, that doesn't look like you. He looks like Hunter S.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: Thompson right there.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that is not.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: No.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it says Jessica White. Wow. He's dead now. That's
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Kid Rock. You ever interview Kid Rock?
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Yeah, he lives in Nashville.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: That'd be easy then.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: I see him there all the time.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Oh, he does. He's got a big club.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he has a club. And he has a crazy
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: house there. He built like a replica of the White
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: House up on this hill there.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: No shit.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: It's insane. It's insane. And he collects a lot of
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: cool stuff. Bob is his real name, but he's a
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: super interesting guy. And he's really nice, too. That's his
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: house right there.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: It's crazy, bro. And it's got a lot of Kid
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Rock stuff in it. Nobody's a bigger fan of Kid
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Rock than Kid Rock, dude.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: I feel like, has he built, has he played, is
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: he doing new albums?
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he still does stuff. He has a Rock the
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Country album.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Okay. Pull that up.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I think it's called Rock the Country that just came out.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: A new tour that just came out that Ella Langley's
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: going to be on, Jason Aldean, Williams, Hank Williams.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: There you go. Kid Rock.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Jelly Roll Creed. Dude, I could
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: see you play Scott Stapp in like a biopic or biopic,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: whatever they call it.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: You're getting me back at that, Jessica White.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: I deserved it. I apologize.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Dude, you know why I used to love Soundgarden, dude?
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Of course. Of course. Yeah, man. What a legend.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: And I feel... Is that them? Shit, maybe I don't
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: know who they are. These are the eyes of disarray.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: Is that... No, that's not... Would you even care?
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: And I'm feeling.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: Oh, Stone Temple Pilots.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: Oh, Stone Temple Pilots, yeah.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Dude, Stone Temple Pilots was good, bro.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: They were.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: What's the first concert you ever went to? Um....
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: I was at the Iowa State Fair. What the fuck
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: is his name? He does bourbon, one scotch, one beer.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, I'm blanking on his name.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Trace Adkins, maybe? No.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: No. God damn it. It's okay. Bad to the bone. Yeah,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: George Silvergood. Yeah. One bourbon, one scotch, one beer. Iowa
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: State Fair, baby.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Dude, how nice is that thing?
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Iowa State Fair? Yeah. It's amazing. Haven't been in years.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Funnel cake?
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Oof.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Yum.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: But I'm not driving across town for a funnel cake.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: But I guess that one would be the best because
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: you'd have all the animals. You'd have all the crafts. Yeah.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: And the big rides.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: I had a good time there when I was growing up. Yeah.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: I guess people did.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: I couldn't walk around there now. I'd be fucking screwed.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: There's no way. Yeah.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: You'd have to hide. You'd have to dress up like something.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Those days are over, man.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: But it's your size. Do you have to disguise yourself
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: as something unique if you're out in the public?
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: There's no way I'm going to hide. You could hide.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: I can't hide. I mean, I'm in the flannel and
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: the hat. It's about as hiding as it gets. If
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: you got a special outfit. I mean, you mean if
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: I go out as like Boba Fett or like, like
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: fucking the helmet on like Iron Man?
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I don't know, dude.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: I mean, I could hide if I had a helmet on. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: If you were like a football helmet or something.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: I was in Jordan one time. We were shooting Dune
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: and I wanted to go see Petra and I got
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: all wrapped up and it was great because I got
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: to walk through there. There's tons of tourists and So
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: I did the whole, you know, full wrap and everything's on,
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: but it was hot. And this little bit of my
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: triangles are sticking out and we're walking through and this,
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: this girl is like a season. She goes, I'm like,
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: this fucking thing gets me in trouble more than anything, man.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Cause it is that a, is that like a, this.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Is basically tapped on and I have one that goes
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: on my head. It goes right through there.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: And how do people earn? Do you earn them or
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: how do you get it?
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: This is like a family crest. Think of it like that.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: It's like the guardian. This is the shark. And this
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: is for protection. Those are the Ihe, the spear. This
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: is the mono, the shark. So basically when I'm in
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: the water and we're snorkeling, the shark knows to go
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: to you because you're white and I'm Hawaiian. So it's
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: like this is what just lets them know.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Yeah. That's fair.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: I got to get something.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: You just roll with me. I'll be like, I'll point
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: it somewhere else.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: I'll be on your back. Pointing out the directions that way.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: You ever seen any sharks?
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: You ever seen any? I went swimming with sharks one
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: time in South Africa. We were in a cage. Have
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: you ever seen any?
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: Like big great whites? Yeah. Did you see a big
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: great white?
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. One came and got, so there were these
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: two round cages off the boat. And since the edge
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: of the boat's like this and you have two circles,
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: there's a space in between the cages right up against
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: the boat, like because it's two circles. And one of
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: the sharks got stuck right in there and he was
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: absolutely going ape shit. And then another one came up
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: and put his snout like in the cage. And I
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: got to touch the top of it, pat him on
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: the head a little bit. Pretty cool. That old Doberman
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: touch I put on him. Did you like South Africa? Oh, dude,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: it's the most beautiful place that I've been. Is there
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: a place you've been that really makes you feel like
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: this is really something special?
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: I just got back from Guatemala. I went there with
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: my lady. She's from Guatemala, and that was my first time.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: So we went to like, we got to go see
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: the pyramids, which is like the largest pyramids in the world.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Bring them up.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: My father's from Nicaragua.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Yeah, which is neighbors to Guatemala, I think. Is it
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: in Central America?
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Ooh, that thing's nice. I'm surprised you don't live in
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: one of those. Because people think you do, dude.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Tikal, the one down there. Yeah, Tikal, the one that's there.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: They write that one. Pretty spectacular. And the one to
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: the left. Food, culture, just so rich. Wow.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: How long was y'all's trip for?
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Antigua. I went to Antigua. Antigua was just like, I've
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: never seen streets like that. Um, we were there for
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: like two weeks. Sorry. Two weeks. Seeing family. Getting to
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: see the parents and the family. Yeah. See if they
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: like me, you know. The fucking gringos coming in.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, huh? Yeah. But you weren't the gringo, though.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: I was.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: To them, huh?
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow. Dude, it's good. I got white blood in me.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: It's good.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good point, dude.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: It's the German blood, yeah?
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Don't bring that fucking... In the Irish.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Don't bring that honky blood around here, whitey. That's the
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: kind of shit that I hear all the time. But.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: They loved me. They did? Yeah, I got two thumbs up.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Did you get a written review? Like on the plane
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: ride home, she read?
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: I could see it in their eyes. Yeah. And I
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: could feel the temperature. The aunties were cool with it.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: The nieces and nephews loved me. The dad's amazing. I mean,
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: I love her dad. We went to go see him play.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: He's a musician? He's probably one of the biggest Latin, maybe, no,
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: he's definitely one of the biggest Latin musicians of all time. Really?
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Yeah, Ricardo Arjona. Let's bring up a picture of this man.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: He's actually, he's got.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: He's your father he could be your father-in-law yeah he's
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: uh he's doing um your stepdad time time time square
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: two nights in.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: A row Ricardo Arona Ricardo Arona yeah Seca is the
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: is the new his new tour Seca yeah he's skinny.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Ooh Ricardo Arona yeah god I want to be something
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: He kind of looks like my old brother right you
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: and him a little bit right oh yeah you can
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: see it that's what's up if I were latin Yeah.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: But I'm not. I'm Hawaiian. And he's probably the biggest
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Guatemalan in history.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: He's very tall?
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: He's like 6'5. No way.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: You can't even tell from this photo.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: They should say that on the poster. First of all,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: they should have a poster that says, hey, come see
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: a 6'5 Guatemalan.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Dude, I'd pay $ 40 to go over and see that.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: He's got two nights in a row at Times Square.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: I think he'll be playing Nashville too, bro.
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Really? Yeah. Dude, if he is, I'll make sure to
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: go and watch him.
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I'll take a Spanish girl out there on a date.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: You're definitely going to meet some Spanish nurses.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: That's a place to go.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: How do you say nurse in Spanish? Bring that up
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: for me, fellas. Enfermera.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Enfermera? Ooh, si. Enfermera. Infermera. Infermera.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: That's what I'm going to say.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: That's where it's at for you. They take care of you,
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: love you.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, dude.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, man. Yeah.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: There were ages when I was like, yeah, I'm going
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: to get, oh, I want to find like a model
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: or something. And now it's like, and I'm getting older.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: I'll take a nurse.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: You've had all the models.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I don't know about that.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: But I just have like, yeah, I'll just, you got
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: to think ahead, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: I don't know if models are going to take care
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: of you, but nurses take care of you.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Dude, no, a model's not going to take care of you, dude.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: And she's not going to feed you anything because she
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: doesn't eat anything. What are you going to do? Just
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: both sit there and suck on an empty bottle together?
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: And she's lazy anyway, probably. Anyway, sorry. What about this guitar, dude?
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: I saw you brought this in.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Well, yeah, because we were both tired. I was going
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: to take a little nap because I didn't want to
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: suck on your show.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I appreciate that, man.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Yes. I'm probably like a solid six right now. I'm
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: normally a tan, but I'm. We had the premiere before
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: I came to Theo Vaughn, which was a big accident.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: So anyways, I was downstairs at Chelsea Guitars. I found this.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: It's 59.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: It kind of got a little bit of that watermelon
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: color to it. Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Because it's usually cherry, right?
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Yeah. And then it fades because of that paint they
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: used back then. But it doesn't have the original pot,
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: so it was kind of cheap. And then I'll put
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: some new pickups in it, and it'll be back to new.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Are you a collector of guitars? I am.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: I'm a big fan. I got a band. We're going
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: to go play Dubai here on the 28th. And look, too.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: I forgot to show you. Yeah. I was in Dubai.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Sorry about that, brother.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: No, I was in Qatar, actually.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Signed by Chuck Berry. Yeah, they have all the guitar
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: signs on there. Who is it? Chuck Berry. The guy
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: that was just up on the.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: That's signed by Chuck Berry, dude?
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Oh, that's him.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: See, there's a guitar.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Johnny B.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: Goode. There you go.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: He used to carry his guitar in a row, say.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: He's between the tree by the railroad track. I loved him, dude.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: We used to listen to his tape all the time.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: I had his cassette tape when I was young.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Actually, it might be a good idea. My son loves
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Chuck Berry. I might do him right. When he turns 18,
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: maybe I'll give him this guitar.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Just let him play it.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: You keep it.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: He just booked a role in a movie next to you.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: He's doing fine. My love language is presence. You can
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: get his own stuff now. Are you?
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: I am, yeah.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Oh, that's pretty cool.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Oh, I heard that you were working with a water company.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Is that true?
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I started this company called Mananalu.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Mananalu?
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: Mananalu. Started eight years ago. I was on a flight, and,
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: you know, you're flying over on the plane, and you
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: see a Coca-Cola in an aluminum can. You got beer
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: in an aluminum can. You got sparkling water in an
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: aluminum can, and they give you those little shitty Dasani
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: water bottles with a cap, you know, the label, and
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: then there's like three different types of plastic on it
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: that we can't recycle. It goes into our land. It
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: goes into our landfills. And I'm a father. I don't
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: want to see plastic. We don't need single-use plastic. Generally,
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: I carry my own water bottle. When I go to
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: the airport, you fill it up. Eight years ago, they
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: didn't even have aluminum for water. So I went to Ball,
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: the people who make those cans, and I went to
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: the aluminum company. I said, I'm going to make a
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: water bottle with you, a water without aluminum cans. And
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: they're like, we're not a, you know, here, here, here.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: We're not a water company. I was like, well, you
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: are now. I'm awful, man. Let's do this. So we
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: set out to do it, and then we ended up
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: making the first screw can. It went back on. So
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: we made Mononolo, and then it changed. Well, now we
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: put our movie on there. Oh, great. So we put
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: the labels on there. But see how it's got Mononolo
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: printed on the top? And so once we kind of
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: stopped single-use plastic and now, Because at the time, I
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: went to Dasani, and I went to the blue and
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: the red guy, Coke and Pepsi, and I was like,
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: would you do this? Would you make the aluminum? They're like,
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: it doesn't make sense to us because it's easier to
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: do plastic. But anything that's in plastic is just leaching
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: in there. It's just poison, man. You don't want to
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: be drinking out of plastic bottles, man.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I think about a lot of times,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: especially now with people talking about all the bad stuff
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: that's in our food and our water. It's become such
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: a talking point right now.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought a lot about how do you find
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: water that isn't because most of the water is in plastic. Yeah.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: And even if you look up, like, what's the best
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: water that doesn't have plastics in it, you know, they
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: won't even really tell you. It's all these, like, kind
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: of gimmick videos that lead you to buy certain things,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: usually to buy water purifiers and stuff. Yeah.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: But, I mean, the idea is just to go, so
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: now we kind of changed, now that they are making those,
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: we made a circular system. So we're now on an
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: olive powered by boomerang. And it's actually, it's pretty cool, man. Like,
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: the idea is to be in, starting with hawaii mainly
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: is to be like in hospitality so you're in hotels
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: hospitals schools where you imagine just going to your room
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: and you got a crate like a milk crate and
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: there's all your water in there and you drink it
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: and you put it back and then down in the
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: basement there's a machine it's a circular system it sterilizes
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: it fills it with your natural local water source and
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: put some minerals back into it and cleans it and
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: mix it so it's fresh water it's not packaged up
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: it's there's no emissions it's not sitting in some crate
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: in some warehouse in stagnant dead water it's fresh water
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: always and if there was a covet or anything that
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: each hotel would still operate like the water still operates
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: right so you can still have fresh water and it's
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: just bottled up think of it as like you're going
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: to a restaurant you eat with their plates and their
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: fork and you're done you leave you come back you're
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: gonna use you're not gonna take shit home You just,
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: it's just a container for it. And so it's constantly
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: reusable and recyclable. So you're cutting out waste. Now, the
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: idea was just to cut waste. So, cause even when
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: you're having the aluminum bottles, you still got to recycle those. And, um,
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: so it's just, the idea is just to either, if
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: you're not carrying your own stuff, it's pretty cool that
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: you can go to a hotel and you know that it's, it's,
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: there's no, not only are you not doing waste. it's
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: getting recycled. So it's a full circular system. That's incredible, man.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: Just to kind of get rid of the single, I mean,
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: just to call that shit down because it's just absolutely ridiculous.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Yeah, when you think about it.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: The idea of like taking shitty water, putting it in
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: plastic bottles, shipping it to a place like Hawaii, which
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: has the best water in the world, we drink it
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: and then the shit ends up in our ocean or
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: a landfill. So it's the dumbest thing in the world.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: I'm going to try to do that in Hawaii first. So,
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: I mean, obviously we're self-contained planet island earth. We didn't
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: need anyone. We can, we're self-contained at one time. So
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: if we can just do that with all our tourism
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: and people come from all over the world, getting married
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: and they get to see what they're doing in each hotel.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: So we have four C all different hotels, four seasons
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: and twin fan, all these different places where it'll have their,
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: it'll have their label on it. So it's, it's, it's
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: still all there. So their advertising is for them. It's just,
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: we're trying to stop the waste. Yeah.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: I love that.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: When I even think about just how many bottles I like,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: I probably drink seven bottles of water a day. So
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: that's seven empty bottles. Like that's just me. That's ridiculous. Yeah.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: Oh, bro, it's the most archaic thing that we're drinking
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: out of fucking plastic bottles. But I mean, so we're
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: doing it on the business side. And eventually, we'll try
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: to get it where we'll have depots for it. But
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I mean, the idea is to get people doing it.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Because in every school, kids can be doing this.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: I like the idea, too, that you can have your
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: thing at home that you could just then be able
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: to refill it. I think that's pretty novel.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Thanks, buddy. Yeah, it's Mananalo Powered by Boomerang. You
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: can check it out. And that's the goal is to
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: just another thing to try to. fixed in a very
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: broken world and we don't need that pollution in our
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: in our oceans.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Aquaman you heard it you heard it man have you
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: ever been a lifeguard or not yeah.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: That's why my whole family waterman yeah they're all lifeguards
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: yeah i went to i went to junior lifeguards my
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: whole life when i was.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: Growing up dang that's like i wish i could be
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: a lifeguard when it's pretty cool.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: When you save someone's life save a person's life before
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: and you're like in the ocean yeah and it's it's
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: it's it's when you do junior lifeguards it's really cool
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: to to really take your time, things slow down. I'm
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: sure it's probably like a firefighter, like I'd panic in
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: a fire, but I think if I saw so many
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: of them in my practice, you know, most people go,
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: oh shit, and then they freak out, whereas the natural
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: calm kind of comes over you and you just like
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: assess the whole situation so you can both get out alive,
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: you understand the rip, you understand what the ocean's doing.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: And you had to save somebody?
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: Was that in Hawaii?
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: But I mean, it's just, like I said, I've been
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: many times like drowned. You get caught in a rip. Yes. You,
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: it's taking you out. You're not going to beat the
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: ocean and you can literally be, I mean, I've been
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: at pipeline, a leaf snapped and I'm literally eight feet
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: from the shore, but it's like a river going by
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: and you're swimming in. trying to get in, like it's
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: eight feet, and you're just getting burnt out. Yeah. And
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: you're like, there are cameras everywhere. There are people right
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: there I could yell for help, and I look like
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: an idiot. I'm going to drown in eight feet of water.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: And the current's so, it's just, the undertow's just pulling
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: your feet out, and it's going to exhaust you, and it, Generally,
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: he's got to go with it. It's going to take
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: you out to sea and they'll dump you back in.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: But everyone drowns like that. It's just you got to
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: watch out for the rips. They'll go jumping into the
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: fucking ocean. And then if you see a sign, don't
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: go in. That's what I mean. Don't be stupid.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: You're like the Yogi Bear of the ocean kind of.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Remember him?
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: Oh, I do. They put out those fires, kids.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, put them out.
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? I know.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: He was so adamant.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: He was talking to me the other day. I built
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: a fire, and I was like, everything's green around here.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: You know what Yogi was?
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Yeah, in my head, because you guys were psychos. But
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I was like, listen, I could dump out.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Oh, Smokey the Bear, dude. Sorry. Who did I say?
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: Yogi.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: Who's Yogi Bear?
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: Yogi Bear is the. Peking Bastard.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: Oh, dude, he's starting the fires then. God, he's probably
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: on Suboxone or whatever by now. Oh, yeah, he's not
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: doing well. I think he was a stepdad, too. You
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: can tell by his outfit. You can tell by that outfit.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: He was definitely trying to meet a lady that already
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: had kids probably, too.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: Not like the Bernstein bear where he was locked in.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: He was just a dumb dad.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: That guy was a family man.
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: He was. He was.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Bernstein was a family man.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: I love me some Bernstein.
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: God, they were good.
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: Especially like the fall issues. I always got snuggled down
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: when I read those ones.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: And the skip one, remember there was that one scary
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: book and one of them, there was a fire, whatever.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: And people were like, no, no fires in the Berenstain bears.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: And people flipped out and shit.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: Oh really? Yeah, dude.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: People just cannot handle real shit. That's the kind of
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: thing I'm talking about. Was there ever, was there a,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: was there a time in a movie where you were
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: training for something that was like one of the toughest
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: things you ever had to actually train for? Or does
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: it never go that far with training?
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, uh, training for, Training for Aquaman was
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: pretty challenging. I'd have to say maybe the... Yeah, I'd
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: say probably Aquaman's probably the hardest I've ever had to train.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: I'm not a very, like, I'm not like a gym rat.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: I just like to do things, rock climbing, you know,
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: go surfing and things like that, but actually, like, get...
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: You do that for a role? I don't necessarily like.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: You're not in there getting pumped every day like a
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: maniac or taking SARMs or whatever?
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: No, I just want to do the things I love
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: to do.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: You're not like some sups monkey that's over there at
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: GNC every day or something? Supplements guy?
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't even do like shakes.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Like creatine, all that? Oh, yeah.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: I like to eat food. Damn. I like to eat. Yeah. Hawaiian.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Dude, yeah, you got to get fat when you get older.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm definitely going that way. Hell yeah.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: I can't wait to get fat.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: I'm trying not to, baby, but.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: Soon as I get married, I'm getting fat. And then
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I'm getting divorced, too. I can't wait to get divorced.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: What else? So people should go see The Wrecking Crew.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: It's a great film. It's fun.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good. It actually feels good. You get to
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: go to Hawaii. You know, if you can't make it there,
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: put on The Wrecking Crew. Yeah. Let me and Dave
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: take care of you. Yeah. Work out some trauma in
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: your family.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: Open up a can of Dole Pineapple for your lady.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: And put on the wrecking crew.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: It's almost the same thing. Some shaved coconut.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: Yeah. You know what I mean? Some mounds.
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: Oh, dude.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Bust out a couple of those.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: My dad used to give us mounds sometimes when we
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: were good.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: Not a lot then, huh?
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Not a lot.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: Not a lot of mounds.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. Thanks so much for taking time. I know
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: you had a long day, man. I know it's like
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: kind of a pain in the ass. It's not, man.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: I don't do podcasts that much because I always get
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: in trouble, so. You're my second. And it was wonderful.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: And dude, I'm just, it's awesome to meet you, man. Yeah.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: It's a pleasure, man. Thanks for all the awesome entertainment.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: And yeah, thanks for just sitting and sharing some of
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: your experiences and story with me.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: You know, there's one thing too, you know, the thing
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: that you have with, oh my goodness, David Spade. When
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: we were at the 50s SNL.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: He was there.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: Yeah. So I saw him when we were there. My
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: daughter's like a massive, massive fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. So
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: Andy Sandberg's like her dude she loves the most. So
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: I saw him about last person I'm leaving. I see
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: him and I go, dude, my daughter loves you. Can
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: I please get a picture with you? And I send
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: the video to my daughter. And I said, hey, listen,
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: if there's anything, I'd love to do something with you.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: About three weeks later, he pitches his story in Hawaii.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: It's amazing. I laughed my ass off. We instantly saw it.
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: I'm going in two weeks to go shoot it in Hawaii.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: No way.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: With David's face?
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: A fucking year later. No, with Sandberg. Andy Sandberg.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: But I'm just saying it's the same thing where you've
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: just like minding friends.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: Oh, that's what you were saying.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: Yeah, just friends and buddies meeting in the comedy. Like
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: I've never met him before. It's just through my daughter.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: But you see something and you're like, dude.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: And you make a friend.
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: But like I'm saying, you got anything in there and
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: you want to, you know, you see me, you see like, oh, dude,
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: Momoa would be that. Oh, my gosh.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: I'm going to think of something good.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: It'd just be fun to be in it. You know
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: I'm going to think of something good. You're Paul Bunyan.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: I could be the Blue Ox, bro. You could be
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: Paul Bunyan. I don't know. Babe. Babe. I'll be Babe.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: Yeah, you'll be Babe the Blue Ox then. And we
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: got to find somebody to be Paul Bunyan. I'm going
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: to be the brother that's on methadone. But we'll figure
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: it out.
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: We'll figure it out, homie.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Jason Momoa, thanks so much, man. Thanks for having me.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Go see the Wrecking.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: Crew, guys. Cornerstone Oh, but when I reach that ground
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: I'll share this peace of mind I found I can
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: feel it in my bones
