- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hi team, welcome to a new week. I hope you're having an awesome
- 0:25Monday. Today in this episode, we are
- 0:27going to talk about something that I call your internal
- 0:30guidance system. It's essentially our intuition.
- 0:34It's our internal knowing and the reason that I want to talk
- 0:37about. It today is.
- 0:38Because so many people struggle. With this idea of self trust.
- 0:43They don't trust themselves to make decisions.
- 0:46To take bold risks. To even make a decision about
- 0:49what they want for dinner and. The problem with.
- 0:53A lacking self. Trust is that you?
- 0:57Are not able to really step into your power in your life you're
- 1:00not able to design and be the creator of your.
- 1:03Life because you don't trust yourself to be able to do it.
- 1:06You question every decision you make.
- 1:08You fear a lot of. Things in life you don't have a
- 1:13lot of faith in your own path and.
- 1:16As a result of all of that, people are less happy, they're
- 1:18less fulfilled, they are less satisfied with their.
- 1:22Circumstances. And they also feel this.
- 1:25Inability to see the joy in things, to see possibility in
- 1:29their lives. To see.
- 1:31Challenges as opportunity. And so I want to talk about
- 1:34this. In terms of impact and.
- 1:37Just how to live a more fulfilled, happier, peaceful
- 1:40life. The topic of intuition is always
- 1:43kind of a funny one to talk about, especially in coaching,
- 1:47because when people think about coaching, they often think.
- 1:50About business. Coaching or relationship
- 1:52coaching or, you know, leadership coaching and the idea
- 1:56of intuition can sometimes seem a little bit on the fringe, Like
- 1:59a little. Woo woo.
- 2:01And the reality? Is the people who are the.
- 2:04Highest performing people that I know, the people who are the
- 2:07most seemingly. Successful are.
- 2:09The most tuned in to their intuition.
- 2:12Without a doubt. I see it every single day.
- 2:16I like to think about intuition as being an internal guidance
- 2:20system, and I stole that term from Abraham.
- 2:23Hicks, who talks about law of. Attraction.
- 2:26But essentially it's like our energy.
- 2:27PS And our intuition is our ability to make sense of
- 2:31information like feelings and energy and emotions that are
- 2:37not. Always easy to.
- 2:39Verbalize. They're not always as tangible
- 2:41as things like. Behaviors or.
- 2:44Things that people. Directly say.
- 2:46I mean, think about. When you walk into a room.
- 2:50You can pretty. Quickly.
- 2:51Get a gauge on the temperature of the room you can feel.
- 2:54Are people happy? Is the energy.
- 2:56Off is there. Some sort of conflict going on?
- 2:59Do I need to have my? Guard up or is this a really?
- 3:01Open atmosphere where people are having a lot of fun and I can
- 3:05just be my authentic self. People have a pretty good.
- 3:09Sense of that? Fairly quickly.
- 3:11Within 30 seconds of walking into a space.
- 3:14Why is that? What makes that?
- 3:16Possible. It's all about.
- 3:18Our intuition, our internal guidance system and the fact
- 3:23that people think that this is kind of a fringe.
- 3:25Topic is really funny. Because they rely on it every
- 3:28single day, often times without knowing.
- 3:31About it so. We need to shed some light on
- 3:34what this is and how we can. Effectively use it.
- 3:37Make it. Better get more skilled at.
- 3:41Employing it so that we can use it to our advantage and we can
- 3:44also start to trust in ourselves.
- 3:46A little bit. I think the trend in the last.
- 3:50Couple of decades. Is that we've been outsourcing?
- 3:53All of our. Happiness, all of our
- 3:55satisfaction, all of our information to external sources.
- 3:59I see this specifically. In the medical.
- 4:01Industry we've outsourced. Our health in so many ways.
- 4:05To the fact that people feel, for the most part, a little bit.
- 4:08Powerless in their health now, This trend has been changing,
- 4:11thankfully, but for a long time for a couple.
- 4:14Of decades, people. Were outsourcing their.
- 4:16Health to. Physicians to medical.
- 4:20Experts to Google. And not really taking control,
- 4:24an agency of their own health for themselves.
- 4:26And that's just one area. There are so many circumstances
- 4:29in life where we are outsourcing information, where we are trying
- 4:32to get external validation from other people, from social media,
- 4:36from clicks and likes on our content, from our personal
- 4:40brands. And so many times we see this in
- 4:42relationships. This might be personal
- 4:44relationships. It might be.
- 4:46Work or career? Oriented relationships, but what
- 4:49I'm noticing with. People is that they don't.
- 4:52Trust themselves to be able to handle their own interpersonal
- 4:55communication within their relationships.
- 4:57They feel like they have to outsource it.
- 4:59They. Have to go get an expert opinion
- 5:01about handle, how to handle conflict, how to handle
- 5:04leadership decisions, even how to handle intimacy.
- 5:07And while I'm a huge fan of self growth and self exploration, as
- 5:11you know, that's my whole shtick.
- 5:12I'm in the coaching industry. I love therapy.
- 5:15I see. Value in all of those things, I
- 5:17do think. That.
- 5:19There is a point where. We need to.
- 5:21Trust in ourselves. We need to be able to learn to
- 5:25listen to our internal guidance system, that intuition, that
- 5:29knowing that little voice inside of us.
- 5:31That says this is. The right thing for me.
- 5:34Or. This is not the right thing for
- 5:36me. I need to figure.
- 5:37Out a way. To change the scenario in
- 5:40coaching, when I first started getting into this industry, one
- 5:44of the first things that I learned.
- 5:46Was this idea that people are whole?
- 5:49And resilient and capable. And I've talked about this on
- 5:52this podcast. Before.
- 5:53To assume that of somebody else. That they are.
- 5:56Whole, capable and resilient is one of the greatest.
- 5:59Gifts that you can give. To somebody.
- 6:02And when you don't do that, you're shortchanging that person
- 6:06in front of you, essentially assuming that they are not
- 6:09whole, that they are broken, or that there is something to fix.
- 6:13The other piece. To this is understanding that.
- 6:15Everybody is equipped with the ability to have self authority.
- 6:21And when I first learned about this in coaching, it was really
- 6:24defined as this ability to understand.
- 6:27That we. Are the captains of our own
- 6:29ships. We are the ones in our life that
- 6:33know. What is exactly?
- 6:35Right for our own path, for our own life.
- 6:38There's nobody else. On this earth, who can make the
- 6:41decisions? For us, because.
- 6:43They don't have to live in our bodies, in our hearts, in our
- 6:46minds and so. Why would we outsource those
- 6:49types of? Decisions when it's.
- 6:50So, so critical. And when nobody.
- 6:53Else could possibly be. Living in our shoes.
- 6:57Why would we? Outsource that information and
- 7:00it all comes back to. This idea.
- 7:02That we've been chipping away at our own self trust for decades
- 7:05and we just don't believe in our ability to know what is right
- 7:08for ourselves anymore. But here's the.
- 7:11Truth. Every single one of us.
- 7:14Is equipped. With an internal guidance system
- 7:17that energy. PS Every single one of us.
- 7:20Has the ability. To lean into.
- 7:22Our self authority. It's that little voice that
- 7:25says. I know what is right for my
- 7:27life. Every single person is equipped
- 7:29with that. We've just gotten out of the
- 7:31habit of listening to it. We've been tuning it out.
- 7:35With various sources of. Information with social media
- 7:38and news and influencers and a lot of noise.
- 7:42A. Lot of societal noise and
- 7:44distraction. We've been tuning it all out and
- 7:47so we're in this place now where we don't understand how to be
- 7:50self accepting and self. Authoritative.
- 7:52We just don't trust it. But Lord, when you can tune back
- 7:56into that and you start to get into the practice of listening
- 7:59to yourself again, that is when you start to become one of the
- 8:04most powerful versions of yourself.
- 8:06You absolutely start. To have a knowing and a deep
- 8:09understanding. For where your path.
- 8:11Is going to lead you even if you can only see 2 feet in front of
- 8:14you. And I see what see this with my
- 8:16clients all the time with coaching clients.
- 8:18With my group. Coaching clients, even with my
- 8:21patients in the clinic, helping them feel empowered and trusting
- 8:25themselves when it comes to their health decisions.
- 8:27It bleeds into every part of our life.
- 8:29This sense. Of self authority.
- 8:32And knowingness, I think when I was younger I used.
- 8:36To believe. That some people were really
- 8:38intuitive and other people were not, and that some people had a
- 8:41gift for intuition. And while you know, that might
- 8:45be true to a certain extent. Everybody has the.
- 8:48Ability to be intuitive. Every person has the.
- 8:52Ability to. Listen to themselves and hear
- 8:54their own inner voice. The question is just.
- 8:57How do you cultivate that? How?
- 9:00Do you enhance it? How do?
- 9:01You get to the place. Where you can start to recognize
- 9:04that voice. Because the reality is.
- 9:08We are living in a very noisy, distracted time with thousands
- 9:12of pieces of information coming at us pretty much from all
- 9:15angles. So what do we do about it?
- 9:18How do? We enhance this inner voice and
- 9:20get to the place where we can be in practice and start to listen
- 9:23to it and make decisions based on it.
- 9:27And there's a couple of simple things that we can.
- 9:29Do the first. Thing that is so incredibly.
- 9:33Helpful to attune. Your inner voice and your
- 9:36intuition is meditation. It's meditation.
- 9:40It's. Breath work.
- 9:41It's. Even alone time and people are
- 9:44often very intimidated by the act of meditation.
- 9:46But here's the simplest way I can put.
- 9:48It all you have to do is sit or lay cross.
- 9:54Legged, You can sit on a chair, you can lay flat on the ground,
- 9:58all you. Have to do is sit or lay quietly
- 10:01for five. To 20 minutes and focus on your
- 10:03breath. And people are always telling
- 10:06me, oh, Steph, my brain's too busy.
- 10:07I can't. Meditate BS.
- 10:10You can, absolutely. Meditate, everybody.
- 10:12'S brain wanders. That's how we're designed.
- 10:15The brain is meant to be that way.
- 10:17You will have distracted thoughts.
- 10:19Hundreds of times during a meditation.
- 10:21All you have to do is come back to your breath.
- 10:24You sit, you focus on your breath.
- 10:26You will inevitably get distracted and have other.
- 10:29Thoughts. That's OK, All you have to do is
- 10:31come back to your breath. And then you're back in the act
- 10:34of meditation, and you do that for 5 to 20 minutes.
- 10:37The practice. Of that over time.
- 10:39Helps you quiet. The brain quiet, the nervous
- 10:42system, and yes, actually, in fact.
- 10:44You will start to. Listen and hear that inner
- 10:47voice. It's like little thoughts.
- 10:49It's little intuitive. Hits.
- 10:51The best way I can describe it is when everything else gets
- 10:55quiet. You can actually.
- 10:56Hear you. And so meditation, breath work,
- 10:58alone time, that's one. Of the best ways to cultivate
- 11:02this. Voice and start to be able.
- 11:03To trust it a little. Bit more.
- 11:05The other way to do this is to practice deep work.
- 11:09And you've heard. Me talk about deep work before.
- 11:11It's simply being in a non distracted space.
- 11:14For 30. To 90 minutes and working on
- 11:17projects that are meaningful. To you without.
- 11:20Checking your phone, checking your e-mail, stopping every 5
- 11:22seconds to do something different.
- 11:24It's focused on distracted work, on something that is meaningful.
- 11:29To you. It's also time to be creative.
- 11:32You could consider it white space where you're just.
- 11:34Having unplanned space where you can just think and be creative
- 11:38and lay and look at the sky, for God's sakes.
- 11:40I don't know. This type of practice helps you
- 11:44start to. Recognize listen to.
- 11:47And actually hear that inner. Voice within you.
- 11:51It sounds abstract, trust me, it's not.
- 11:53And really, I think at the end of the day, it's all about
- 11:56removing all of the distractions that are constantly bombarding
- 12:00us all the time. Finally, that takes me to my
- 12:02Third Point if you want to start to.
- 12:05Cultivate more self trust. If you want to start to be able
- 12:08to recognize this voice within you a.
- 12:09Little bit better you have to cut out.
- 12:12Some of the noise, and that means cutting out some of the
- 12:15screen time, the phone, the TV, Netflix constantly entertaining.
- 12:19Yourself with easy quick. Distractions that give you that
- 12:23dopamine hit it's. Great for short.
- 12:26Term stuff and it's entertaining.
- 12:28That's for sure. But guys, this is.
- 12:31Thousands of pieces of information that are coming into
- 12:33our brain. The brain can only handle so
- 12:35much, and so when we're constantly bombarding it with
- 12:38social media scrolling. Do I like?
- 12:41This Do I want to read this? Do I not like this?
- 12:43I'm going to judge this. I'm going to be critical.
- 12:45Of this, all of those. Thoughts are decisions, and when
- 12:48your brain is making that many decisions in a short amount of
- 12:51time, it's no wonder you don't have the bandwidth to even be
- 12:54able to hear your own self. And so one of the.
- 12:57Best ways to be able. To cultivate this inner voice
- 13:00and start to hear your own intuition.
- 13:02Is to get quiet, cut out the. Scrolling and the screens.
- 13:06Get outside, look at the sky, look at the trees.
- 13:10Get quiet. And see if you can.
- 13:12Start to practice. Giving yourself.
- 13:14A little bit of space. Because I promise when you do
- 13:17that inner voice and that intuition starts to.
- 13:20Rise to the surface. And you will be able to
- 13:22recognize it for what it. Is.
- 13:24The guiding light. To what?
- 13:26You really want and what a fulfilled, meaningful, peaceful.
- 13:30Life will look like for you. Now when it comes to this.
- 13:33Topic of self trust. There's so many other ways that
- 13:36you can build trust within yourself.
- 13:38But for this episode specifically, what?
- 13:40I want to focus on. Is self trust as it?
- 13:43Relates to your own intuition and your own internal guidance
- 13:46system. Know that you have all the
- 13:50tools. That you need know that you.
- 13:52Are a very powerful. Knowing wise person, you came to
- 13:57this earth. As a perfect.
- 13:59Being and all. That other?
- 14:00Stuff telling you that you don't know what is good.
- 14:02For you or what is right for you?
- 14:04I think a lot of that is just BS.
- 14:07And so my challenge to you this. Week.
- 14:09Is to do some of these things, Meditate, do some deep.
- 14:13Work or be creative? And cut out some of the
- 14:15scrolling and the entertaining. Ourselves so that.
- 14:18You can create some space for your own inner voice to come up.
- 14:22Listen to it and see if you can. Start to trust.
- 14:26In the. Fact that it's.
- 14:28Coming up for a reason, and it's probably speaking the exact
- 14:31truth that you've been needing to hear.
- 14:33So I hope this helps. I hope that you have a chance
- 14:35this week to dig into your own intuition and start to listen.
