  Today we're setting aside some of the big theological systems

  for a moment. We're going to focus on a really
• 0:09
  short, surgically precise saying from the heart of the Sermon on
• 0:12
  the Mount, Matthew 6, verses 22 and 23.

  And this is a passage that uses a very simple physical analogy,
• 0:19
  the eye to get any kind of spiritual self deception that's,
• 0:24
  well, it's more dangerous than just accidental sin.
• 0:26
  It really is, and it's so key to see where it sits in Matthew 6.
• 0:29
  It's like a perfect hint day in the NGF.
• 0:31
  You know Christ has just finished talking about storing
• 0:34
  up earthly treasure versus heavenly treasure, and this
• 0:37
  leads right into a statement that no one can serve 2 masters.
• 0:40
  So it connects the two ideas. It connects everything.
• 0:43
  The question of what you treasure forces the question of
• 0:46
  sight, how you see the world, and that in turn determines who
• 0:50
  you actually worship. So the fight over our
• 0:52
  possessions is really a symptom of a deeper fight.
• 0:54
  It's a fight over perception itself.
• 0:57
  We're looking at the filter, the functional filter that we use to
• 1:00
  interpret all of life. That structural placement is
• 1:03
  just. It's so helpful.
• 1:06
  The core idea really is that the spiritual crisis Jesus is
• 1:08
  talking about here isn't about, you know, a lack of religious
• 1:12
  activity. Not at all.
• 1:13
  It's about a dangerous blindness, a kind of systemic
• 1:15
  failure of honesty inside that lets a person think, oh, I see
• 1:19
  clearly, I'm just being responsible.
• 1:21
  My priorities are fine while they're actually walking toward
• 1:23
  ruin. So this passage forces us to
• 1:27
  look at the heart spiritual sightline, that faculty that
• 1:30
  guides everything we do. It's not about our actions
• 1:33
  first, but what we trust to give us light.
• 1:36
  So let's start with the metaphor itself.
• 1:37
  Verse 22. The eye is the lamp of the body.
• 1:41
  This is obviously an analogy from everyday life.
• 1:44
  Jesus isn't giving us an anatomy lesson.
• 1:46
  No, he's not interested in optometry.
• 1:48
  It's a proverb, you know. A proverb like image with huge
• 1:51
  implications for the soul. So what's the function of the
• 1:54
  eye as a lamp? What does that mean?
• 1:55
  Well, think about a lamp in a dark room.
• 1:57
  What's its job orientation? Right, to see where you're
• 2:01
  going. Exactly.
• 2:02
  The lamp doesn't create the world around you, but it lets
• 2:04
  you move safely in it. If you're stumbling around in
• 2:07
  the dark, it doesn't matter how strong you are.
• 2:08
  The lack of light means you're going to hit something.
• 2:11
  And Jesus just applies that physics directly to our
• 2:14
  spiritual lives. If the lamp inside you, your
• 2:17
  source of truth, your guide, is broken, the path ahead is
• 2:21
  dangerous. It doesn't matter how sincere
• 2:23
  you are. Your inner light is what directs
• 2:25
  the whole course of your life. It governs everything.
• 2:28
  The real question is what standard does your inner sight
• 2:32
  treat as real, As ultimate? As the thing you need for
• 2:36
  security? And the biblical idea of the
• 2:38
  eye, it feels much bigger than just, say, mental intelligence.
• 2:42
  It's not about being smart. Oh, absolutely.
• 2:44
  In the Bible, perception is never morally neutral.
• 2:47
  It's always tied to the heart, the Control Center of our
• 2:50
  desires and our will. OK, so here the eye is a
• 2:53
  powerful symbol for the heart's gaze.
• 2:55
  It's what you fix your mind on, what you measure you're worth by
• 2:58
  what you're terrified of losing. It's what you functionally
• 3:02
  believe will save you or make you whole.
• 3:04
  So it's the direction of your desire.
• 3:06
  The direction of desire, and this is key, the moral filter
• 3:10
  for your judgment. It interprets all the data
• 3:12
  coming in. It's less about seeing and more
• 3:15
  about apprehending what really matters.
• 3:18
  Which means the deciding factor in any situation isn't the
• 3:21
  situation itself, it's the internal condition of the person
• 3:24
  seeing it. Yes, I'm picturing 2 people
• 3:26
  looking at the exact same business opportunity or the same
• 3:30
  hardship. They can see totally different
• 3:32
  things. I think that's the perfect way
• 3:34
  to picture it. The external reality, the
• 3:36
  numbers on the page, the market, your neighbors new car, that's
• 3:39
  all stable, but the inner eye either warps it or clarifies how
• 3:43
  you process it. Give me an example.
• 3:45
  OK, think of money. One person, their inner lamp, is
• 3:48
  set on God's provision. They see wealth as a tool, a
• 3:52
  resource to be managed for a master, and so they find real
• 3:55
  freedom in giving it away. The other person, their lamp is
• 3:58
  set on self security. They see wealth as their
• 4:01
  ultimate refuge, their identity, the source of their safety.
• 4:04
  Their actions might even look similar on the outside.
• 4:07
  They might both could be working hard, both might even give to
• 4:10
  charity, but the meaning, the inner interpretation of the ACT
• 4:15
  is completely opposed. So the real battleground for
• 4:18
  obedience isn't the office or the bank first.
• 4:21
  No, it's the gaze of the soul, it.
• 4:22
  Gets the gaze. Before we start serving Mammon
• 4:25
  with our schedule or our spending, we first give Mammon
• 4:29
  the authority over our sight. We let it define what a good
• 4:32
  life is, what blessing looks like, what's an acceptable risk.
• 4:36
  That's the subtle poison Jesus is exposing.
• 4:39
  And it feels so reasonable because we call it prudence.
• 4:41
  You always do. So let's talk about the scope of
• 4:43
  the body. Christ says the whole body will
• 4:45
  be full of light or darkness. Why use the word body?
• 4:49
  What does that tell us about trying to, you know,
• 4:51
  compartmentalize our lives? In the Bible, especially here,
• 4:55
  the body means the whole person, not just your physical shell.
• 4:59
  It's your whole integrated self in the world, your thoughts,
• 5:02
  your feelings, your choices, your habits, your actions,
• 5:05
  everything. Christ is hammering home the
• 5:08
  comprehensiveness of this. The state of your eye doesn't
• 5:11
  stay politely in some private, spiritual corner of your mind.
• 5:15
  If your eye is healthy, your whole life, every decision,
• 5:19
  every relationship gets lit up with coherence and truth.
• 5:23
  If it's distorted, the whole person is plunged Into Darkness.
• 5:28
  Which stops us from trying that classic move of keeping our
• 5:30
  faith for Sunday morning, but letting ambition or fear run the
• 5:33
  rest of the week. Exactly.
• 5:35
  The lamp floods the whole house. A fractured inner logic, a
• 5:38
  divided love, guarantees an incoherent outward life.
• 5:41
  You can't have it both ways. And that's why this connects our
• 5:44
  treasure in verse 21 to our service in verse 24.
• 5:47
  It's a Direct Line. If your inner lamp is governed
• 5:50
  by Mammon's rules for safety, then that's going to dictate how
• 5:53
  you raise your kids, how you spend your free time, how you
• 5:55
  treat your competitors, even how you read the Bible.
• 5:58
  You just can't keep the darkness private.
• 6:00
  And this gets to a really tough point about sins effect on us.
• 6:03
  What are tradition calls the noetic effects of sin?
• 6:06
  The problem isn't just that we choose wrong things, is that sin
• 6:10
  actually damages the very faculty of seeing the right
• 6:13
  thing. That is the depth of the ruin we
• 6:15
  have to face. The Westminster Confession is
• 6:17
  clear on this. Sin doesn't leave our intellect
• 6:20
  untouched, right? The fall clouds the mind, it
• 6:23
  disorders our affections, and it compromises the very eye that's
• 6:26
  supposed to receive God's light. When the inner lamp is damaged,
• 6:30
  it doesn't just flicker, it actively misinforms.
• 6:33
  It tells you lies. It tells you lies and calls them
• 6:36
  truth. The I mistakes comfort for
• 6:38
  security. It confuses self justification
• 6:41
  for genuine wisdom. So when we talk about the noetic
• 6:43
  effects, what specifically is Jesus targeting here?
• 6:47
  It's not just that our intellect is weaker.
• 6:49
  No, it's that the intellect becomes an active participant in
• 6:52
  the deception it rationalizes. The mind corrupted by sin
• 6:56
  doesn't just fail to see God's truth, it uses its cleverness to
• 7:00
  build these elaborate defenses for its own desires.
• 7:02
  So the person who won't give generously, for instance.
• 7:06
  Right. They aren't just ignorant of the
• 7:07
  command. Their corrupted mind argues that
• 7:10
  their need to accumulate is more responsible, more strategic than
• 7:14
  God's command to trust him. They use their intelligence to
• 7:18
  justify hoarding and call it financial sobriety.
• 7:21
  So they're operating with a completely distorted map, but
• 7:24
  they've racked it in the language of righteousness or
• 7:26
  just being smart. They are, and that's why the
• 7:28
  cure has to be so radical. You can't fix this by just
• 7:31
  trying harder or following a new set of rules.
• 7:33
  That's just moralism. Polishing the lens on a broken
• 7:36
  lamp. You got it.
• 7:37
  A lamp that's generating darkness can't be be fixed by
• 7:39
  cleaning the outside. The remedy has to be a new
• 7:42
  sight, a re aiming of the eye by grace, a heart recalibrated to
• 7:47
  God's reality. So the core question is, what do
• 7:50
  you really believe is real and true and necessary?
• 7:53
  Yes, the world trains the eye to measure success by what you can
• 7:57
  count and what others. MD Christ trains the eye to
• 7:59
  measure success by the unseen favor of the Father and the
• 8:02
  lasting treasure of heaven all. Right, let's turn to the
• 8:04
  positive vision then. Verse 22 says if your eye is
• 8:08
  healthy or single, your whole body will be full of light.
• 8:11
  We should probably spend some time on that word single because
• 8:14
  of the Greek hapless is so specific.
• 8:17
  What does that kind of singular focus mean here?
• 8:20
  That word hapless. It means simplicity, integrity,
• 8:24
  but most importantly here, undivided devotion.
• 8:27
  It's the state of a heart that's no longer trying to serve 2
• 8:30
  ultimate loves. It's the opposite of being
• 8:32
  double minded. The exact opposite of what James
• 8:35
  talks about. And it's not about being
• 8:36
  intellectually simple. It's about having one settled
• 8:39
  AIM 1 ruling allegiance. So how is that different from
• 8:43
  just say, moral purity or having your doctrine straight?
• 8:46
  That's a great distinction. Moral purity is the result of
• 8:49
  the single eye, not the cause of it.
• 8:51
  And you can have all the right theological terms, but if your
• 8:54
  heart steepest desire is split, it's meaningless.
• 8:57
  Hapless demands a singularity of purpose.
• 9:00
  So in the context of Matthew 6, the single eye is fixed on God
• 9:03
  as the supreme, sufficient and satisfying good.
• 9:06
  Everything else, money, status, reputation gets put in its
• 9:09
  proper secondary place. It's the foundation of living
• 9:12
  quorum DIO before the face of God.
• 9:14
  A life of honesty and unified devotion.
• 9:17
  When God is the master, everything else falls into line.
• 9:21
  And it's so countercultural because the world celebrates
• 9:24
  that double vision, hedging your bets, keeping options open,
• 9:27
  trying to have the appearance of piety in the security of Mammon.
• 9:30
  And Christ just calls that what it is, fundamental instability.
• 9:34
  The single eyed person refuses to wear two faces or bow at 2
• 9:38
  altars. Their internal honesty, their
• 9:40
  single pursuit of God's glory, dictates their entire outward
• 9:44
  life. If God is supreme, then the
• 9:47
  threat of earthly loss just shrinks.
• 9:50
  It shrinks dramatically. So what's the practical result?
• 9:52
  The whole body is full of light. What does that light actually
• 9:55
  look like for someone, say, running a business or raising a
• 9:58
  family in this economy? The light is spiritual
• 10:01
  coherence. For that business owner, it
• 10:03
  means they run their company with ethical clarity.
• 10:06
  They won't cut corners even if it cost them profit, because
• 10:09
  their real aim is God's approval, not just the bottom
• 10:12
  line. For the parent, it means they're
• 10:14
  raising their children to treasure Christ, not sacrificing
• 10:17
  their family on the altar of status and achievement.
• 10:20
  Their conscience is sensitive. Their will is steady.
• 10:23
  Their affections are ordered toward eternal things.
• 10:25
  Their life makes sense because it all flows from one principle.
• 10:29
  God is enough. I think we should stay on that
• 10:31
  for a second. How the single eye is
• 10:33
  liberating. The liberation is huge because
• 10:36
  the single eyed man is fixed on the Father who sees in secret
• 10:40
  like Christ said just a few verses earlier.
• 10:43
  So his performance is for an audience of one.
• 10:46
  It's not dictated by the applause or criticism of the
• 10:48
  crowd. He can give and pray and fast
• 10:51
  without needing public recognition because his light,
• 10:54
  his joy, his reward comes from God, not from other people.
• 10:58
  He's anchored. He's anchored when everything
• 11:00
  around him is in flux. He can see suffering as
• 11:02
  discipline, not failure. He sees blessings as
• 11:05
  stewardship, not entitlement. And the sources really connect
• 11:08
  this healthy eye directly to generosity.
• 11:11
  Why is generosity such a key test for this?
• 11:14
  Well, the good eye in Scripture is almost always contrasted with
• 11:17
  the evil eye of envy and stinginess.
• 11:20
  The link is theological. If my eye is fixed on God, who
• 11:23
  is infinitely generous. I mean, He gave his own Son for
• 11:26
  me. Then the whole logic of scarcity
• 11:29
  and hoarding is just shattered. So generosity is a form of
• 11:33
  warfare. It's a profound act of
• 11:35
  Worshipful warfare against the lie that my money is my savior.
• 11:39
  The single eyed person has really grasped that their true
• 11:43
  treasure is stored where moth and rust can't get to it.
• 11:46
  It seems like the single eye just completely redefines what
• 11:48
  security is. It absolutely does.
• 11:50
  This person doesn't need to frantically squeeze the world
• 11:53
  for safety. They live by the promise of the
• 11:56
  Father's care and the assured endurance of an eternal
• 11:58
  inheritance. So the word becomes the lamp to
• 12:00
  their feet. Right, and their outer walk
• 12:02
  starts to look like someone who belongs to the Kingdom of light.
• 12:05
  Think about it, across generations, a single eyed
• 12:08
  father will release his resources to his children and
• 12:11
  his church now. Not because he's reckless, but
• 12:13
  because his security is in God's hand.
• 12:15
  He's teaching them that their real inheritance is in heaven.
• 12:18
  That brings the theology down to earth.
• 12:21
  So if the single eye is the goal, how do we cultivate it?
• 12:24
  It's obviously a work of the Spirit.
• 12:26
  It's entirely a work of grace, but it happens through appointed
• 12:29
  means. It's not about gritting your
• 12:31
  teeth and trying harder. It's about relentlessly exposing
• 12:35
  yourself to God's truth. What does that look like?
• 12:38
  The Spirit uses Scripture to expose our false treasures,
• 12:42
  prayer to confess our divided loyalties, corporate worship to
• 12:45
  recenter our hearts on God's glory and costly obedience, real
• 12:50
  measurable sacrifice to retrain the heart's natural reflex to
• 12:54
  grab and hold on. And we have to be careful about
• 12:56
  modern counterfeits of this light.
• 12:57
  Right. Oh, the dangers are everywhere.
• 12:59
  Because the enemy loves to repackage darkness as spiritual
• 13:02
  light, we have to reject the idea that wealth is a sign of
• 13:06
  God's favor. That's prosperity theology,
• 13:08
  which actually encourages the evil eye.
• 13:11
  Defining blessing by what you accumulate.
• 13:13
  Exactly. We have to reject pragmatism,
• 13:15
  the idea that whatever works must be right.
• 13:18
  The single eye is governed by faithfulness to truth, even when
• 13:21
  it seems costly or counterintuitive.
• 13:23
  Or even just personal feelings. Yes, that's another one guarding
• 13:26
  against subjectivity, where you claim your inner impressions are
• 13:29
  light instead of the objective, revealed truth of the Word.
• 13:33
  In all those errors, the gaze shifts from God himself to a
• 13:37
  created thing, money, success, or your own feelings.
• 13:41
  The lamp gets moved from heaven to earth and the darkness starts
• 13:44
  creeping in. Well, that leads us right into
• 13:46
  the darker side of the passage, verse 23.
• 13:49
  But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of
• 13:52
  darkness. This isn't just about a mistake.
• 13:55
  This sounds like a spiritual disease.
• 13:56
  It is. The Greek word here is ponotos.
• 13:59
  It means moral depravity, even active malice.
• 14:02
  So the bad eye isn't just the lack of information, it's a
• 14:05
  moral deformity of sight, a fundamental sickness of
• 14:08
  interpretation. A gaze bent inward.
• 14:10
  A gaze bent inward toward the self, filtering all of reality
• 14:14
  through the lens of self-interest and covetousness.
• 14:17
  In the Bible, this evil eye is always linked with envy,
• 14:20
  stinginess, greedy suspicion. It's the.
• 14:23
  Heart that tightens its fist when it sees someone else get
• 14:25
  blessed. That's the one the evil eye is
• 14:27
  basically crowning Mammon. Or just self-interest as the
• 14:30
  Supreme Counselor of your life. It's idolatry.
• 14:32
  It's idolatry and it operates on a deep anxiety.
• 14:35
  If I get more, I'm safe. If I lose ground or if someone
• 14:38
  else gets ahead of me, I'm diminished.
• 14:40
  I'm threatened. And the world calls that
• 14:42
  prudence or ambition, or? Realism.
• 14:45
  But Christ calls it darkness because it's built a lie that
• 14:48
  their ultimate security is in created things, not the Creator.
• 14:52
  You mentioned that covetousness is a discipline of
• 14:55
  interpretation. Unpack that for us.
• 14:58
  How does it actively teach the heart to see the world wrongly?
• 15:01
  It's a devastating discipline because it's relentless.
• 15:04
  It trains the heart towards self day in and day out.
• 15:07
  Covetousness forces your mind to read every single situation,
• 15:10
  from a dip in the stock market to a conversation with a friend
• 15:13
  through 1 frantic selfish question.
• 15:15
  What will this cost me and what will I gain?
• 15:17
  It sounds like the engine of rationalization.
• 15:19
  It is. It turns your intellect into a
• 15:22
  247 lawyer arguing the case for your own self justification and
• 15:26
  accumulation. That's why greed starts to sound
• 15:28
  so wise. Right, I have to say for
• 15:30
  retirement, so I can't get freely.
• 15:32
  That's greed speaking the language of responsibility.
• 15:35
  Envy pretends to be discernment. I see the flaws in their
• 15:38
  success. They didn't really deserve it.
• 15:40
  And hoarding becomes protecting my family.
• 15:42
  All of it is a sophisticated, corrupt use of our intelligence
• 15:45
  to serve the idol. That's why Colossians 3.5 just
• 15:49
  says it plainly. Covetousness is idolatry.
• 15:51
  It demands not just an action, but a whole alternative
• 15:55
  worldview where the idol is the source of meaning and safety.
• 15:58
  And Christ warns this darkness spreads everywhere.

  Your whole body will be full of darkness.
• 16:03
  This isn't just about your checkbook, is it?
• 16:05
  Not at all. The corruption seeps into every
• 16:07
  part of life. Like what?
• 16:09
  OK, In your relationships, people stop being neighbors to
• 16:12
  love, and they become rivals to resent, or tools to use for your
• 16:15
  own advancement In your work. It stops being service to God
• 16:18
  and becomes this frantic, relentless race for status,
• 16:22
  always measuring yourself against the next person.
• 16:24
  Even REST is affected. You can't find true rest, The
• 16:27
  soul can't find quiet because it's God.
• 16:29
  Mammon is fragile and demanding. There's never enough, so the
• 16:33
  anxiety never really sleeps. And your moral decision making
• 16:37
  gets flipped upside down. The whole framework gets
• 16:39
  inverted. Good is called evil, evil good.
• 16:43
  Radical obedience to Christ is fanaticism.
• 16:46
  Generosity is recklessness. Humility is weakness that's
• 16:51
  going to get you run over. And we can see how this leads
• 16:53
  right into the next section of the Sermon on the Mount, the
• 16:55
  teaching on anxiety. It's the unavoidable connection.
• 16:58
  A person with a darkened evil eye has to worry because they're
• 17:01
  trying to secure their own life without relying on the Father.
• 17:04
  Their vision makes God look small and unreliable, and it
• 17:08
  makes created things look ultimate and essential.
• 17:10
  The whole person just gets disoriented.
• 17:12
  Busy, anxious, easily offended because their security is tied
• 17:16
  to things that are volatile and just profoundly unwilling to
• 17:19
  give or forgive. So since this darkness is so
• 17:22
  tricky and can even use religious language, how can
• 17:25
  someone listening tell if this is creeping into their own
• 17:27
  heart? Can we make a simple diagnostic
• 17:29
  test? I think so.
• 17:31
  The sources suggest a few sharp questions that cut through our
• 17:33
  self justifications. First, you have to examine the
• 17:37
  reflex of envy. OK, what happens inside you?
• 17:40
  Honestly, when a friend, a colleague, a neighbor gets
• 17:43
  blessed, they get the promotion, the new house, the thing you
• 17:45
  want, Do you instantly rejoice and thank God for his kindness
• 17:49
  to them? Or does something tighten in
• 17:51
  your heart? Comparison, resentment,
• 17:53
  suspicion, That tightening? That's the shadow of the evil
• 17:58
  eye at work. That one hits close to home.
• 18:00
  What's another one? Look at your response when
• 18:02
  you're asked to let go of something, when God, through His
• 18:05
  Word or through circumstances, asks you to loosen your grip, to
• 18:09
  give a substantial amount of money, to forgive a huge
• 18:11
  offense, to trust Him when the finances are thin.
• 18:15
  What's your gut reaction? Exactly.
• 18:16
  Do you obey as an act of worship, showing a single eye,
• 18:19
  or do you instinctively bargain, hoard, and defend what's yours,
• 18:23
  showing that Mammon is your functional Lord?
• 18:25
  That immediate protective reaction to perceived loss is a
• 18:28
  huge indicator of where your inner lamp is really aimed.
• 18:32
  It's a mercy that Jesus is so clear about this.
• 18:35
  The world says keep getting more and you'll see clearly.
• 18:38
  Jesus says the opposite. He says if your eye is bad, the
• 18:41
  more you acquire, the darker your spiritual state might
• 18:43
  become. And that brings us to the climax
• 18:46
  of the passage. It's Christ's most severe
• 18:48
  warning. If the light in you is darkness,
• 18:52
  how great is that darkness? This is the spiritual
• 18:55
  catastrophe the moment you realize the guide you trust is
• 18:59
  leading you off a Cliff. This is the terrifying part.
• 19:02
  Christ is describing A deception that's deeper than just doing
• 19:05
  bad things. This is having a broken internal
• 19:07
  compass. So what is the light in you?
• 19:10
  It's whatever structure you rely on for guidance and assurance.
• 19:14
  Your inner logic, your system of self justification, your deep
• 19:17
  down conviction that you're on the right path.
• 19:20
  And what forms does this counterfeit light usually take?
• 19:24
  Well, often it takes the shape of moral respectability.
• 19:27
  A person follows all the external rules, avoids big
• 19:29
  scandalous sins, and they conclude, my heart must be
• 19:32
  clean. Or it can be religious
• 19:34
  familiarity. You know, they've been in church
• 19:36
  for decades. They know the catechism.
• 19:38
  They go through the motions, but self-reliance or Mammon is still
• 19:42
  sitting on the throne of their practical affections.
• 19:44
  And for a more modern person? For a modern, rational person,
• 19:48
  the counterfeit light might just be the idol of pragmatism, the
• 19:52
  belief that if something works, if it leads to success or
• 19:55
  comfort or worldly security, then it must be God's will.

  Can we use an analogy to make that clear?
• 20:02
  If the eye is a lamp, what does it mean for the lamp to generate
• 20:05
  darkness? Imagine you're holding a very
• 20:07
  expensive, sophisticated compass.
• 20:09
  You have total confidence in it, but secretly the needle has been
• 20:13
  remagnetized to point E instead of north.
• 20:16

  So the law brings us to the end of ourselves, but the gospel is

  the provision. It gives what the law demands

  but can't deliver. How does Christ, the Truth Light

  cure this radical blindness? Christ comes as the true light

  of the world, and his saving work goes all the way down to

  the source of the problem, the eye itself, the heart's

  And practice costly generosity. Yes, give in ways that actually

  cost you something. Not to earn God's favor, but to

  declare war both publicly and privately on the lie that your

  money is your refuge. Can you give us a couple of

  specific practical disciplines for someone who wants to make

  war on the evil eye? Sure.

  First, cultivate chosen contentment.

  And for six months, deliberately embrace simplicity there.
