Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Is LSU the Best Team in America? Andy Staples Reacts to a Wild Week 1 | Hour 2
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The next round presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sport
- 0:04Speaker 1: and State as we go to our number two here
- 0:06Speaker 1: at LT and D & B. Reaction to what we've
- 0:09Speaker 1: seen already in week one. One more game tonight, SMU
- 0:13Speaker 1: and Florida State and Tallahassee. And just the point spread
- 0:16Speaker 1: in that game makes it look like it's going to
- 0:18Speaker 1: be interesting tonight in Tallahassee. But we've seen a lot
- 0:22Speaker 1: of stuff already, including the beatdown of Dabo and Clemson.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Just how good is LSU?
- 0:28Speaker 1: And as Andy comes in here, Maybe you want to
- 0:31Speaker 1: point out to Andy that if you were an AP
- 0:32Speaker 1: poll voter, you'd have LSU number one in the country.
- 0:35Speaker 2: You just did that. Andy Staples with us on three.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Ari and Andy. I don't know if his look is
- 0:40Speaker 2: like Brown would have LSU number one. When I voted
- 0:43Speaker 2: in the AP poll, I voted one year. I think
- 0:46Speaker 2: Ralph Russo was like, OK, let's don't ask this guy back.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I had a lot of volatility in my poll, and
- 0:52Speaker 2: one thing I did was I'd do a preseason poll, Andy,
- 0:54Speaker 2: and then I'm like, okay, I based all that on
- 0:56Speaker 2: what I thought was going to happen. I have now
- 0:58Speaker 2: seen what's going to happen. I would have LSU number
- 1:00Speaker 2: one in the country today.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Well, I voted for five years, and I did it
- 1:04Speaker 3: the same way. There were a lot of wild swings
- 1:06Speaker 3: the first few weeks because I said, okay, when the
- 1:08Speaker 3: games start, we're going to base it on the games,
- 1:10Speaker 3: and we're going to stop basing it on our guesses
- 1:13Speaker 3: from the preseason.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 3: It's funny how mad that makes people. But I think
- 1:19Speaker 3: that's the best way to do it. It actually doesn't matter.
- 1:21Speaker 3: You end up in the same place either way. So
- 1:24Speaker 3: I have to do a projected playoff bracket for on three,
- 1:27Speaker 3: which obviously for entertainment purposes only after week one. But
- 1:33Speaker 3: I had LSU as the number one seed. Of course,
- 1:36Speaker 3: they look the best. That'll get a click or two,
- 1:39Speaker 3: I bet.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So the ultimate.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Well, no, no, the best part of it, and I
- 1:43Speaker 3: swear I didn't plan this, I didn't put Oregon in there.
- 1:47Speaker 3: I had Oregon as the first team out because they
- 1:49Speaker 3: looked pretty shaky against Boise State. It wasn't fluky the
- 1:52Speaker 3: way Boise State was moving the.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Ball on them.
- 1:55Speaker 3: And so I didn't put Oregon in. And I was like,
- 1:56Speaker 3: you know what? USC's looked pretty awesome so far. Like
- 2:00Speaker 3: when their starters have been in, I don't think they've
- 2:02Speaker 3: given up a point. And so I put USC at
- 2:05Speaker 3: number 10. And Notre Dame, because they struggled to run
- 2:09Speaker 3: the ball a little bit against Wisconsin last night, I
- 2:10Speaker 3: had them at seven. Well, guess what? Guess what that
- 2:14Speaker 3: would create?
- 2:14Speaker 2: USC and Notre Dame in the first round. Let's do it.
- 2:19Speaker 4: They finally play. Okay, so Andy, back to LSU-Clemson. This
- 2:23Speaker 4: is like the ultimate knee-jerk reaction question, though. But if
- 2:27Speaker 4: I asked you today, better chance LSU wins the national
- 2:30Speaker 4: championship or Clemson goes 5-7 and misses a bowl?
- 2:36Speaker 3: Why not both?
- 2:37Speaker 2: Lance is great about asking.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I'm the little girl in that gif.
- 2:43Speaker 4: You can take both, but if you had to just
- 2:45Speaker 4: go one, LSU either wins national championship year one with
- 2:49Speaker 4: Kiffin or Dabo coming off a seven win season goes
- 2:53Speaker 4: below 500 for the first time.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I'd say LSU wins the national championship and still be
- 2:57Speaker 3: more likely because if you look at Clemson's schedule, even
- 3:01Speaker 3: though they were clearly not equipped to compete with a
- 3:03Speaker 3: team like that, They only play one more team like that.
- 3:07Speaker 3: And that's Miami. They should be very competitive against the
- 3:10Speaker 3: teams they're going to play for the most part. So
- 3:13Speaker 3: like they would have to coach them extremely poorly to
- 3:18Speaker 3: go under 500. Now, we saw Saturday.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm interested in your everybody's talking
- 3:29Speaker 2: about it. I want to hear yours.
- 3:31Speaker 1: In a world that there's a part of the population
- 3:35Speaker 1: that doesn't believe we landed on the moon in the
- 3:37Speaker 1: late 60s. Even though there's a video evidence. The Big
- 3:41Speaker 1: Ten sends out video evidence. Where are you today on
- 3:44Speaker 1: the Western Michigan-Michigan ending?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Oh, I believe the Big Ten. And everybody who talked about, like,
- 3:50Speaker 3: saying there's a... So you're saying there's a secret clock?
- 3:53Speaker 3: There's no secret clock. Don't be a dummy. The... Replay
- 3:58Speaker 3: Center has a camera focused on a clock in the stadium.
- 4:01Speaker 3: That's the one they used. NBC does not use a
- 4:06Speaker 3: shot of a clock in the stadium. That's what TV
- 4:08Speaker 3: used to use. You guys remember. We're all old here.
- 4:11Speaker 3: When we were kids, if we watched a game, there
- 4:15Speaker 3: was a cutout on the screen of a camera shot
- 4:19Speaker 3: of the clock in the stadium because we didn't have
- 4:21Speaker 3: the technology to have a clock that was synced that
- 4:24Speaker 3: would count down.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Well, guess what?
- 4:26Speaker 3: We probably still don't. We probably do have that technology,
- 4:28Speaker 3: but they probably weren't checking it regularly. And so NBC's
- 4:34Speaker 3: graphics package has a clock on it, but it's not
- 4:37Speaker 3: nearly a shot of the clock in the stadium. We
- 4:41Speaker 3: don't know if it's synced completely. So there's no way
- 4:44Speaker 3: to tell, which is why poor John Fanta had to
- 4:45Speaker 3: get on there and say that yesterday. And everybody's just
- 4:48Speaker 3: crushing him. And so I think everybody was acting honestly
- 4:54Speaker 3: in this situation. It just sucked the way it worked out.
- 4:57Speaker 3: that Western Michigan thinks they won. We're all looking at
- 5:01Speaker 3: a shot on our televisions of a guy touching the
- 5:03Speaker 3: ball with the clock saying zero, zero, zero. So the
- 5:08Speaker 3: one thing I think the Big Ten could do better,
- 5:10Speaker 3: because I appreciate them putting out the video. Three, four
- 5:13Speaker 3: years ago, well, hell, one year ago, they just hired
- 5:16Speaker 3: a really good PR guy. They used to have terrible PR.
- 5:20Speaker 3: One year ago, they probably wouldn't have put that video out.
- 5:23Speaker 3: So that's a step forward. The next step forward is,
- 5:26Speaker 3: You need to show that to us in real time
- 5:29Speaker 3: during the game.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Correct.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Because millions more people would trust what they said if
- 5:36Speaker 3: they'd seen it in real time. Because Terry McCauley, the
- 5:39Speaker 3: rules analyst for NBC, who used to be an NFL
- 5:42Speaker 3: referee and a college referee, he used to be the
- 5:44Speaker 3: Big East director of officials, he said it on the broadcast.
- 5:47Speaker 3: He's like, you know, I don't know if our clock
- 5:49Speaker 3: is synced up with the clock that the replay center
- 5:52Speaker 3: is using, referring to NBC's clock. And If you saw
- 5:56Speaker 3: that in real time, he'll hypothesize that in real time
- 6:00Speaker 3: on the broadcast and you'll go, oh, okay, I see
- 6:02Speaker 3: what's going on here. Now, that said, NBC, Fox, ESPN, CBS,
- 6:10Speaker 3: y'all got to figure out how to sync it. And
- 6:12Speaker 3: if you can't sync it, you need to go back
- 6:14Speaker 3: to the old shot of the camera in the stadium,
- 6:17Speaker 3: the clock in the stadium. So figure that part out.
- 6:20Speaker 3: You need to do that. But conferences, all of you,
- 6:24Speaker 3: Show us the replays in real time. Show us the deliberations.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Give us the audio of the official on the field
- 6:31Speaker 3: talking to the replay official. We know it's possible. The
- 6:35Speaker 3: XFL did it years ago. The ACC started doing it
- 6:37Speaker 3: last year. The Big 12 is doing it this year.
- 6:40Speaker 3: The Pac-12 is doing it this year. Guys, even the
- 6:43Speaker 3: Big 10 is doing it this year. They were already
- 6:45Speaker 3: going to do it. They put out a press release
- 6:47Speaker 3: last week saying they were going to do the replay,
- 6:51Speaker 3: show us the deliberations on their Friday night games. They
- 6:54Speaker 3: had three games Friday night. They just never had a
- 6:55Speaker 3: situation where they had to do it. So they've got
- 6:58Speaker 3: the technology. Their network partners can do it. They're agreeing
- 7:01Speaker 3: to do it. Every league, Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, ACC,
- 7:06Speaker 3: Mountain West, Conference USA, Sunbelt, all of you, just let
- 7:10Speaker 3: us see it. It will make it easier for you
- 7:14Speaker 3: in the long run.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you completely on that. Andy Staples
- 7:16Speaker 2: with us from All in 3. Andy and Ari, every day,
- 7:20Speaker 2: Talking College Football right there on YouTube. You do the
- 7:23Speaker 2: same thing for them you do for us. Give them
- 7:25Speaker 2: a thumbs up, set your alerts, subscribe, and get some
- 7:28Speaker 2: great football content from them. Last night's game, like all offseason,
- 7:32Speaker 2: I thought, well, you know what, Ole Miss, I think
- 7:34Speaker 2: they're going to take a step back on offense, even
- 7:36Speaker 2: with Lacey. and Chambliss back they don't have Lane Kiffin
- 7:39Speaker 2: and Charlie Weiss back into the first half I'm like
- 7:40Speaker 2: all right well there's one thing I got right and
- 7:42Speaker 2: then the second half I'm like holy crap they've taken
- 7:44Speaker 2: a step back on defense that's not the offense anymore
- 7:47Speaker 2: oh yeah offense is fine yeah offense just fine in
- 7:49Speaker 2: the second half but boy I am concerned about Ole Miss's.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Defense I am too and maybe we find it out
- 7:55Speaker 3: that Louisville just has a pretty high power at all
- 7:58Speaker 3: and I think they felt like Lincoln Keenholdt yeah Lincoln
- 8:00Speaker 3: Keenholdt got got comfortable as that game went on and
- 8:04Speaker 3: The Ohio State people said, this guy is good. We
- 8:07Speaker 3: don't think he's as good as Julian's saying, but we
- 8:10Speaker 3: think he's good. And he was a four-sport athlete. He's
- 8:13Speaker 3: from one of the Dakotas. I always mix up which
- 8:15Speaker 3: Dakota he's from.
- 8:16Speaker 2: South.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, he's South Dakota. Plus, plus, plus athlete. And you
- 8:21Speaker 3: saw it as the game went on when they said,
- 8:25Speaker 3: you're going to have to escape some pressure and create here.
- 8:29Speaker 3: And he started doing that. There was a stiff arm
- 8:30Speaker 3: he had. That was just unbelievable. And he scampers away
- 8:34Speaker 3: for like nine yards. But Trinidad Shamless picked up right
- 8:38Speaker 3: where he left off. I mean, they played the second
- 8:41Speaker 3: half without Ke'wan Lacy. And Ole Miss was still just
- 8:44Speaker 3: running up and down the field, big play after big play.
- 8:46Speaker 3: But yeah, the Ole Miss defense, that's a scary thought
- 8:50Speaker 3: when you're going to have to play that LSU offense
- 8:52Speaker 3: we saw. Because LSU's offense looks capable of just pounding
- 8:55Speaker 3: on you, but also... hitting huge plays on you because
- 8:59Speaker 3: that Sam Leavitt is a running around and make some
- 9:00Speaker 3: stuff happen kind of QB. And you saw a little
- 9:03Speaker 3: bit of that against Clemson. They don't really need much
- 9:05Speaker 3: of that. That's something that he's as good or better
- 9:10Speaker 3: than Lincoln Keenholz at that. And you got to play
- 9:12Speaker 3: him in two weeks.
- 9:13Speaker 4: We're going on like 700 days since the last time
- 9:16Speaker 4: Indiana lost a football game. I mean, it is absolutely crazy.
- 9:19Speaker 3: They're never losing again.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Apparently not. Look, they win by 36. Eight of their
- 9:24Speaker 4: wins last year were by 34 or more. But watching, like,
- 9:28Speaker 4: I thought Josh Hoover looked good. It's hard to get
- 9:31Speaker 4: anything from North Texas, but the Mean Green did outgain Indiana.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Indiana only had one sack. Indiana only forced one turnover.
- 9:40Speaker 4: I mean, are we getting a little bit less of
- 9:42Speaker 4: an Indiana this year? I know they're still really good, Andy.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I don't know. We're not going to find out until
- 9:49Speaker 3: October when they actually play somebody.
- 9:50Speaker 2: That's true.
- 9:51Speaker 3: But I think there's a really good chance that they're
- 9:55Speaker 3: still really good. like the thing is they controlled that
- 9:58Speaker 3: game it i mean we're not dan mullen here saying
- 10:02Speaker 3: but we outgained them they were in control the entire
- 10:06Speaker 3: time there was never a doubt so i thought hoover
- 10:09Speaker 3: was very efficient they didn't run the ball as well
- 10:12Speaker 3: as you thought they would but the defense you know
- 10:15Speaker 3: kept north texas out of the end zone so I'm
- 10:17Speaker 3: going to reserve judgment on them until they hit Big
- 10:19Speaker 3: Ten play because they clearly don't want to schedule anybody
- 10:22Speaker 3: good in the non-conference.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Listen, I'm approaching, I'm closer to four decades of covering
- 10:27Speaker 1: the SEC than I am three decades. So I have
- 10:31Speaker 1: a blind spot when it comes to national, the national scope.
- 10:34Speaker 2: You don't. You've done the national stuff for years.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Is there a little built-in grudge match between Boise players
- 10:41Speaker 1: and Oregon because that always seems to be a really
- 10:46Speaker 1: competitive game. And like Boise comes into that game with
- 10:49Speaker 1: a lot of edge to them. And what'd you take
- 10:51Speaker 1: away from Dan Lanning's team?
- 10:55Speaker 3: I was a little concerned. I was concerned. And it's,
- 10:58Speaker 3: I don't know, it's a grudge match. Like, yeah, Boise state.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Most of a lot of those guys are Pacific Northwest
- 11:04Speaker 3: guys or, or California guys, which is most of the
- 11:07Speaker 3: Oregon guys are Pacific Northwest or California guys. So I
- 11:10Speaker 3: could see there being a little bit of a rivalry there,
- 11:13Speaker 3: but I just think Boise state, is one of the
- 11:16Speaker 3: better group of six teams. There was nothing fluky about
- 11:19Speaker 3: the way they challenged Oregon in that game. They moved
- 11:22Speaker 3: the ball up and down the field a few times.
- 11:25Speaker 3: They stayed in the game. When it looked like Oregon
- 11:27Speaker 3: had shut the door on them, they came back. So
- 11:31Speaker 3: I think we're going to find out that Oregon beat
- 11:34Speaker 3: a really good team and that they're fine. But I
- 11:38Speaker 3: don't know. So I worked with George Reister, who is
- 11:41Speaker 3: a former Oregon tight end, and he just texted me,
- 11:44Speaker 3: Cause he saw my, my playoff graph. He's like, we
- 11:46Speaker 3: got to talk. And I'm like, play better, play better. And,
- 11:52Speaker 3: but now here's the thing. Two years ago, Boise state
- 11:56Speaker 3: goes to Oregon week two, Oregon barely survives. Oregon goes
- 11:59Speaker 3: 13 and no one wins the big 10. So it's
- 12:01Speaker 3: not like this is the end for Oregon. It's not
- 12:04Speaker 3: like a dumb ass, like me leaving them out. The
- 12:06Speaker 3: projected playoff bracket week one means anything. He, they have
- 12:10Speaker 3: a chance to be just fine. They're playing USC in
- 12:13Speaker 3: week four. That's going to tell us a lot about
- 12:16Speaker 3: USC and about Oregon. I think we're going to learn
- 12:19Speaker 3: quite a bit at that point. Now, Oregon plays Oklahoma
- 12:21Speaker 3: State this week. I thought Oklahoma State was going to
- 12:25Speaker 3: immediately be better. Eric Morris and Drew Messermaker, all those
- 12:27Speaker 3: guys coming from North Texas, they were awful on Saturday
- 12:30Speaker 3: against Tulsa. I mean, awful. And I think Trey Lamb
- 12:34Speaker 3: at Tulsa is a really good coach. He was fantastic
- 12:36Speaker 3: at East Tennessee State before that. But there's no excuse.
- 12:39Speaker 3: When you spent all that money to get those guys–
- 12:45Speaker 3: They got to look more ready than that because the
- 12:47Speaker 3: crazy thing is that wasn't even the jump up in competition.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Like Tulsa's in the same league that North Texas is in.
- 12:54Speaker 2: That's right.
- 12:54Speaker 3: You've already played all like they didn't play Tulsa last year,
- 12:57Speaker 3: but they played that level of competition all last year.
- 12:59Speaker 3: If you can't show up for that, you're going to
- 13:01Speaker 3: get housed by Oregon.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Malachi Toney got lost a little bit because he got
- 13:06Speaker 2: lost in the secondary for Stanford.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I was going to say, Stanford still haven't found him.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. But it was Friday night, and they
- 13:12Speaker 2: were playing Stanford. But the guy had more receiving yards
- 13:15Speaker 2: than 66 college football teams have passing yards already. I mean,
- 13:19Speaker 2: it's incredible the night he had. So fun to watch. Oh,
- 13:22Speaker 2: he's so fun to watch. This is the best-pats-catch combo
- 13:25Speaker 2: maybe in college football here in Mensah because Mensah was terrific, too.
- 13:30Speaker 2: I mean, this Miami team, one bad team they played,
- 13:34Speaker 2: but it looked very legit on Friday night.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Yeah, they looked like they hadn't lost a step at all.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I think maybe they upgraded a quarterback over last year.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Mensah looked really smooth. You got to see a Cooper
- 13:47Speaker 3: Barcate touchdown. That's a guy who had 1,100 receiving yards
- 13:49Speaker 3: at Duke last year. And the fact of the matter
- 13:52Speaker 3: is there are very few defenses that they're going to
- 13:55Speaker 3: play that could cover Cooper Barcate, let alone cover Malachi, Tony.
- 13:59Speaker 3: They're going to struggle to cover that team. We don't
- 14:02Speaker 3: know about Miami's defense yet. They lost so much. They
- 14:06Speaker 3: had to replace a lot. I find it hard to
- 14:08Speaker 3: believe that they're going to be as dominant as they
- 14:10Speaker 3: were last year just because of the sheer amount of
- 14:12Speaker 3: talent they lost. But I still think they're going to
- 14:15Speaker 3: be very good. They've got a good defensive line. The
- 14:17Speaker 3: D-tackle is like Ahmad Moten coming back. They don't play
- 14:23Speaker 3: a lot of teams that are going to really challenge them.
- 14:25Speaker 3: That's the biggest problem is... We don't know if Florida
- 14:28Speaker 3: State's going to be any good. We have our suspicions
- 14:31Speaker 3: that Clemson isn't going to be. They play Notre Dame.
- 14:36Speaker 3: That's the game right there. But Miami does not have
- 14:40Speaker 3: a lot of teams that are going to be similar
- 14:44Speaker 3: talent that can challenge them. So they got to keep
- 14:47Speaker 3: from getting bored. And that has been a problem for
- 14:50Speaker 3: Miami over the last, however, it goes back multiple coaching staffs.
- 14:54Speaker 3: So last year they lose to Louisville and SMU. They
- 14:57Speaker 3: can't have that happen this year. They need to win
- 14:59Speaker 3: the games they're supposed to win. So we'll see if
- 15:01Speaker 3: they can stay interested as this schedule does not really
- 15:05Speaker 3: help them get interested.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Not great competition, but through week one, which first-year coach
- 15:11Speaker 4: seems to have their team more improved? John Sumrall in
- 15:14Speaker 4: Florida or Will Stein in Kentucky?
- 15:19Speaker 3: That's a good question. It's really hard to tell. Kentucky
- 15:24Speaker 3: was playing an FCS team. Florida very much overmatched FAU.
- 15:29Speaker 3: We're going to find out because Alabama is going up
- 15:31Speaker 3: to Kentucky this weekend, but, but Kentucky looked very sound.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I I've said the whole time, I love what they
- 15:37Speaker 3: did going out and get an offensive lineman. Like they
- 15:40Speaker 3: clearly invested to make sure they had what they needed.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Summerall took a really different tack taking over Florida's program
- 15:45Speaker 3: where he, he really tried to retain as much of
- 15:48Speaker 3: the Billy Napier guy, you know, the group of Billy
- 15:50Speaker 3: Napier guys that he could, that he liked. Now, obviously he,
- 15:53Speaker 3: They made a choice not to retain DJ Lagway, but
- 15:57Speaker 3: Jaden Ball was a priority. Jaden Woods was a priority.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Dallas Wilson was a priority. Vernell Brown III. And you
- 16:03Speaker 3: saw those guys the other night looking like they are
- 16:08Speaker 3: ready to play. So I'm excited to see that. I
- 16:11Speaker 3: thought it was interesting that the new coaches, it was
- 16:14Speaker 3: more interesting that the coaches that ported either half a
- 16:18Speaker 3: team or a whole team, only one of them had
- 16:21Speaker 3: a really good game, and that was Matt Campbell at
- 16:22Speaker 3: Penn State. Alice Golish won the game for Auburn, but
- 16:27Speaker 3: you could see in his interview after the game, he
- 16:28Speaker 3: looked like, oh boy, what's going on here? This is
- 16:31Speaker 3: not how it's supposed to look. And then obviously Eric
- 16:33Speaker 3: Morris and Drew Messamaker coming to Oklahoma State and getting
- 16:36Speaker 3: housed by Tulsa. That was not part of the plan.
- 16:39Speaker 2: You played at Florida and you live down there. So
- 16:43Speaker 2: you're closer in proximity to that program than most in
- 16:46Speaker 2: the national media. When Buster Faulkner's offense does not punt once,
- 16:51Speaker 2: it's been a minute since Florida's played a game where
- 16:53Speaker 2: they didn't punt one time, I would imagine.
- 16:56Speaker 3: The Mullen years had some really good offensive explosions. The
- 17:03Speaker 3: 2020 team had an unbelievable offense. It's interesting. The Dan
- 17:06Speaker 3: Mullen erasure has been interesting. I have never criticized Florida
- 17:12Speaker 3: for firing him when they did. I thought, if your
- 17:15Speaker 3: goal is to win the national title, the way he
- 17:17Speaker 3: recruited was never going to get you to a national title.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Like you were never going to be able to, to
- 17:23Speaker 3: compete year in and year out with the Georgia, but
- 17:26Speaker 3: he still had really good offenses. This offense looked a
- 17:30Speaker 3: lot like those offenses. And we'll see what the defense
- 17:32Speaker 3: looks like. Cause again, it's FAU, but FAU is an
- 17:36Speaker 3: interesting one. Cause Caden belt camp is a, is a
- 17:37Speaker 3: pretty good QB and they brought their whole staff back.
- 17:40Speaker 3: So I thought the whole, the whole performance was pretty
- 17:44Speaker 3: fun to watch. And, It's something that the Florida fans
- 17:47Speaker 3: over the last four years did not get to see
- 17:49Speaker 3: because the offense always looks stuck in mud under Billy Napier.
- 17:52Speaker 3: It didn't seem to matter what the opponent was. It
- 17:54Speaker 3: didn't seem to matter what else was going on. But
- 17:58Speaker 3: this one, it looked like there were answers for every
- 18:00Speaker 3: single thing FAA wanted to do. And it's just unusual.
- 18:05Speaker 3: That first drive, so Florida intercepts a pass. They got
- 18:08Speaker 3: 90-plus yards to go down the field. And it was
- 18:11Speaker 3: hot knife through butter. And I was surprised. it's been
- 18:16Speaker 3: so long since you've seen something like that. You're like, Hey,
- 18:19Speaker 3: that's what it's supposed to look like. So we'll see.
- 18:21Speaker 3: They play Campbell this week. So we won't, we won't
- 18:22Speaker 3: know anything until they play Auburn week three.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I'm a on three member because of Ari and Andy.
- 18:28Speaker 1: And I see, and I see where you have Alabama
- 18:31Speaker 1: in your playoff discussion. When you saw Keelan Russell this weekend,
- 18:34Speaker 1: tape on him, just give me a quick thought.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Love it. Love it.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Because they had a first round quarterback last year and
- 18:41Speaker 3: Ty Simpson is a good athlete was, was mobile. And I,
- 18:45Speaker 3: you know, I said last year during that stretch when
- 18:49Speaker 3: they beat Georgia and beat Tennessee, like Ty Simpson was
- 18:54Speaker 3: really carrying them because they weren't able to run the ball.
- 18:57Speaker 3: I think they're going to be able to run the
- 18:58Speaker 3: ball better with the backs. But the fact that Keelan
- 19:01Speaker 3: Russell is a threat to go 30 yards if he
- 19:05Speaker 3: breaks contain. And so what that means is you could
- 19:09Speaker 3: play it right. You could have the right call on.
- 19:12Speaker 3: You could cover the receivers. You could get some pressure.
- 19:14Speaker 3: and he squirts away and gains 25, 30 yards, that's
- 19:17Speaker 3: going to be incredibly frustrating for defenses that have to
- 19:21Speaker 3: play them. So I'm excited to see what he does. Now,
- 19:25Speaker 3: the question is, is that possible against Kentucky, against LSU,
- 19:31Speaker 3: against Tennessee, or is that because it was East Carolina?
- 19:35Speaker 3: I suspect he's going to be able to do that
- 19:37Speaker 3: against most teams. I think he's probably doing that against everybody.
- 19:40Speaker 2: In your updated bracket projection, just out of curiosity, who's
- 19:43Speaker 2: your group of six team?
- 19:45Speaker 3: Boise State.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Which I know the Oregon fans are going to be
- 19:49Speaker 3: really mad because I left Oregon out and put Boise
- 19:51Speaker 3: State in, but here's what happens. Boise State plays Western
- 19:54Speaker 3: Michigan and they play Memphis. Actually, Memphis this week, Western Michigan,
- 19:57Speaker 3: I believe week four.
- 19:58Speaker 2: That is right.
- 20:00Speaker 3: If they beat those two teams and then they go
- 20:02Speaker 3: undefeated in the Pac-12, they're going to be the playoff team.
- 20:06Speaker 2: But if Western Michigan wins that game in Kalamazoo, Good chance.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Well, it depends on Memphis. Because Memphis has already beaten UNLV.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:17Speaker 3: If Memphis beats Boise State and then wins the American,
- 20:20Speaker 3: they're in good shape.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I would agree. It's fascinating. I mean, these matchups
- 20:25Speaker 2: we're getting, though. Memphis is playing Boise State. Boise State
- 20:27Speaker 2: is playing Western Michigan. For some reason, the group six
- 20:28Speaker 2: is playing better out of conference schedule. It's the group
- 20:31Speaker 2: of six playoffs.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a conscious thing. It's a conscious decision they made. Because, one, like,
- 20:38Speaker 3: now Oregon... it is scheduling Boise state's a good on
- 20:42Speaker 3: Oregon for doing that. But a lot of the power
- 20:44Speaker 3: programs don't want to schedule a team like that because
- 20:46Speaker 3: they can come beat you as it, as you saw with,
- 20:49Speaker 3: with Oregon really needing a great fourth quarter to win
- 20:52Speaker 3: that game. So the, the group of six teams have said, okay,
- 20:56Speaker 3: if we can't get these guys to let us come
- 21:00Speaker 3: play them, let's just play the best of each other.
- 21:03Speaker 3: And then whoever emerges from the pile is an easy choice.
- 21:07Speaker 3: And I think that's, That's what you got here because yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 3: you've got, so Boise state, who's the favorite in the
- 21:12Speaker 3: new pack 12. And then you've got Memphis, who is
- 21:16Speaker 3: probably the favorite in the American at this point. And
- 21:19Speaker 3: then Western Michigan, you're defending Mac champion, like kind of
- 21:21Speaker 3: all playing each other. And I think that's going to help.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 2: All right. He is Andy Staples. Follow him on social
- 21:27Speaker 2: media at Andy Staples on X. As Jim mentioned, Andy
- 21:31Speaker 2: and Ari, they do a tremendous job on YouTube, part

- 21:36Speaker 2: thumbs up, do all the things you do for us. Andy,
- 21:38Speaker 2: enjoy the game today. You're headed to Tallahassee, so the
- 21:41Speaker 2: final game of week one. Enjoy it, and we always
- 21:44Speaker 2: appreciate your time.
- 21:46Speaker 3: What does the spread know that we don't on that? Lance?
- 21:49Speaker 2: That's a Lance question. Oh, you ought to hear Lance
- 21:51Speaker 2: talk about Oklahoma and Michigan if you wanted to ask
- 21:53Speaker 2: that question.
- 21:56Speaker 3: I'm giving that some time to breathe.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we should. I mean, that is the
- 22:00Speaker 4: ultimate knee jerk is being like, Michigan can't play football anymore.
- 22:04Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 22:05Speaker 2: As Dunaway said, people will climb over dead bodies to
- 22:07Speaker 2: get Oklahoma minus five and a half in that game.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And I'm one of them. Yeah, yeah. Oklahoma minus five
- 22:14Speaker 2: and a half. Yeah, that's why Hard Rock Betts has
- 22:17Speaker 2: good things.
- 22:17Speaker 3: I was surprised it wasn't more. I looked immediately after
- 22:21Speaker 3: the Michigan game ended and I was like, This is
- 22:22Speaker 3: going to be like Oklahoma minus eight and a half.
- 22:25Speaker 3: It was five and a half.
- 22:26Speaker 2: After that Michigan performance, you could have said it anywhere
- 22:29Speaker 2: and people were going to climb all over to the
- 22:31Speaker 2: place to get to Oklahoma. I can promise you that.
- 22:33Speaker 2: You could have been at 12 and a half. Yep,
- 22:34Speaker 2: makes sense. Absolutely, 12 and a half. Give me all
- 22:36Speaker 2: I can get. Thank you, Andy. Have a great week.

- 23:55Speaker 1: it was good to talk to Andy Staples. This is
- 23:57Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sporting State.
- 24:02Speaker 1: We're back on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets.
- 24:05Speaker 2: On Sporting State. What was your new moniker for the
- 24:10Speaker 2: head coach at LSU?
- 24:11Speaker 4: Vane Kiffin.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Vane Kiffin.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Going into the locker room at halftime, he said something
- 24:17Speaker 1: to Holly walking away. He knew the mic would still
- 24:20Speaker 1: be on him and everything. Imagine if we had NFL players.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Was that the quote? Yeah. I think he may have
- 24:27Speaker 2: said professional. Maybe it was NFL.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Imagine if we had the professional players, NFL players. He
- 24:31Speaker 1: gets asked about that in postgame. Here's what he said.
- 24:35Speaker 5: At halftime, when you were coming off the field and
- 24:37Speaker 5: you did that quick TV interview, it sounded like you
- 24:40Speaker 5: might have been joking a little bit, but it also
- 24:43Speaker 5: begs the question, what could be the future for the
- 24:47Speaker 5: guys that you sort of alluded to in that comment?
- 24:50Speaker 6: Well, I just said that to Shelly afterwards. Like, what
- 24:53Speaker 6: would it look like if they would have those players, too?
- 24:55Speaker 6: You know, so that's just my personality.
- 24:58Speaker 4: So it is what it is.
- 25:01Speaker 6: And then I said, did you actually, like, put that
- 25:02Speaker 6: on there?
- 25:02Speaker 3: She said, yeah, I said, So what's the difference?
- 25:04Speaker 4: Everybody hates you.
- 25:05Speaker 6: They can't hate you that much more.
- 25:06Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 25:09Speaker 6: You got another line. But I'm just really glad they
- 25:13Speaker 6: played the way they did. So that wouldn't have been
- 25:15Speaker 6: the story because I get it. That would have been
- 25:17Speaker 6: the whole story. Even if we won close and kind
- 25:19Speaker 6: of ugly, the whole story would have been, man, I
- 25:21Speaker 6: screwed the team up by doing this. And I said
- 25:25Speaker 6: it this morning. You cannot agree with it. I've been
- 25:29Speaker 6: criticized heavily for the last two weeks, and I get that.
- 25:31Speaker 4: I understand.
- 25:32Speaker 6: But my job is not to please you and worry
- 25:34Speaker 6: about what you're going to write. My job is what
- 25:37Speaker 6: I believe is right. And I believe we were fighting
- 25:40Speaker 6: for what was right for those kids. I'm not going
- 25:42Speaker 6: to get into all the reasons, but that's what I believe.
- 25:44Speaker 2: And so.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Many people don't like that, but they don't understand that.
- 25:49Speaker 6: And maybe if they knew my relationship with Daquan, you'd
- 25:53Speaker 6: think a little different.
- 25:55Speaker 4: I don't understand the draw that is Lane Kiffin. Like,
- 25:59Speaker 4: I understand the controversy. He's just not like a smooth guy, though.
- 26:02Speaker 4: He is so freaking awkward.
- 26:05Speaker 2: He is.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And the walkout, like, Livvy Dunn and Theo Vaughn, like, why?
- 26:13Speaker 4: Don't forget the your mom joke in the postgame presser.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Did you guys see that?
- 26:17Speaker 2: I did not. He did a your mom joke?
- 26:19Speaker 3: Yeah, a reporter asked him, it's like, oh, some people
- 26:23Speaker 3: think we look a little similar. What do you think, coach?
- 26:27Speaker 2: Oh, that was a few years ago, yes. Oh, well,
- 26:30Speaker 2: it popped up.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Again on my feed last night, my fault.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I remember that one, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm
- 26:35Speaker 2: kind of with you on all that. That was just like,
- 26:37Speaker 2: I mean, there was so much already going on, and
- 26:39Speaker 2: now you add in Theo Vaughn and people.
- 26:41Speaker 4: It was just a wild thing.
- 26:43Speaker 2: You're right, though. He is an awkward guy.
- 26:45Speaker 4: And, you know, Dunaway, you know how you clap your hands?
- 26:48Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 4: He does that, but him out there throwing the football,
- 26:52Speaker 4: and he didn't look like an ex-quarterback throwing it. I
- 26:54Speaker 4: know he played at Fresno State, but he was just
- 26:58Speaker 4: trying to be out there, but he just can't blend.
- 27:01Speaker 4: He is super awkward.
- 27:04Speaker 1: I don't think Barstool Sports shot the video, but there
- 27:08Speaker 1: where I saw the video of him getting out of
- 27:10Speaker 1: the truck, Yeah. Sunday morning. I assume it's at the
- 27:14Speaker 1: football complex, not his house. And did he say, I
- 27:18Speaker 1: haven't been to sleep yet?
- 27:20Speaker 2: I think that's what he said, yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but he looked like... He had not been to
- 27:23Speaker 1: sleep yet? He looked like he had not been to
- 27:25Speaker 1: sleep yet.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I mean, a grown man with flip-flops going to the.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah. With either his old clothes or changed clothes and
- 27:31Speaker 2: wanted up under his arm. Yeah, but I mean, that game...
- 27:34Speaker 2: got such a late start it didn't end until 11.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Ish yeah i'm surprised he even left the facility unless.
- 27:41Speaker 2: He just probably went.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Straight home and then was like i'll come back in the.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Morning you've seen it jim you know how it is
- 27:46Speaker 2: you've got recruits there so you go and you talk
- 27:49Speaker 2: to your team you do what he just did there
- 27:50Speaker 2: and i guess the recruits were still around that late
- 27:53Speaker 2: you go in and you deal with the recruits i
- 27:54Speaker 2: mean i'm sure he hadn't been asleep um as late.
- 27:57Speaker 4: As that game ended he is going to be unbearable
- 27:59Speaker 4: if he wins a national championship And a lot of.
- 28:01Speaker 2: People today would bet on him to do that. At
- 28:04Speaker 2: some point? Yeah. I'm not saying this year. I'm saying
- 28:06Speaker 2: at some point. Just what you saw.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Okay.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Tell me about XXXY because I want to ask you
- 28:11Speaker 1: a question. I think where you're going with this. Tell
- 28:14Speaker 1: me about those folks.
- 28:15Speaker 2: And I've got to– I got killed about this on
- 28:18Speaker 2: social media. Oh, okay. All right. Uh, XXXY, it is
- 28:22Speaker 2: the brand that started a movement. The T that started
- 28:24Speaker 2: a movement, uh, is XXXY. It was founded by Jennifer Say,

- 28:31Speaker 2: as well. She walked away from a corporate job there, Levi's,
- 28:35Speaker 2: rather than say something she didn't believe. And she started
- 28:37Speaker 2: XXXY Athletics. Empower female athletes and take a stand for
- 28:42Speaker 2: fair competition. That's their mission, empower female athletes and take

- 29:01Speaker 2: sports bras, leggings, shirts, training sets, men's and women's clothing.
- 29:05Speaker 2: They've got hoodies, they've got hats, they've got graphic tees,
- 29:07Speaker 2: the list goes on and on. It's stuff that is
- 29:09Speaker 2: worn by athletes who've actually put something on the line.

- 29:22Speaker 2: That is xx-xyathletics.com. Excuse me.
- 29:28Speaker 1: So I don't think the day could have played out
- 29:31Speaker 1: any better. You like the delay because it Pushed a
- 29:34Speaker 1: meaningful game back into the.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Yeah and it gave us three or at least for
- 29:37Speaker 4: me three meaningful late games.
- 29:39Speaker 1: That's right yeah but if you're if you're promoting lsu
- 29:45Speaker 1: um and you were sitting there waiting for that game
- 29:47Speaker 1: to start to have reese joey galloway desmond and pat
- 29:52Speaker 1: mcafee sitting on that field for one hour after the
- 29:55Speaker 1: studio had done it.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Those guys sit there for an hour. It was a
- 29:58Speaker 2: free commercial.
- 29:59Speaker 1: It was an infomercial for 60 minutes. I mean, they
- 30:01Speaker 1: were able, Lance, to take. I don't know if you
- 30:03Speaker 1: were watching.
- 30:04Speaker 4: I could not handle the sound because Galloway, Desmond, and
- 30:08Speaker 4: Pat McAfee.
- 30:09Speaker 2: No thank you. But they were able to. They played
- 30:14Speaker 2: Colin Baton Rouge live.
- 30:16Speaker 1: You know, when they started singing that in the stadium,
- 30:18Speaker 1: they were able to take that because they– They were unscripted.
- 30:20Speaker 2: They wanted anything that was filling time.
- 30:21Speaker 1: They were filling time, so they were handing shots as
- 30:24Speaker 1: the crowd was singing, calling Baton Rouge, and the crowd
- 30:26Speaker 1: partying in the stands and dancing.
- 30:28Speaker 2: It was almost like the lead-up to a national championship
- 30:30Speaker 2: game where there was no other game going on, so
- 30:32Speaker 2: we got our crew sitting here on the field, and
- 30:34Speaker 2: we're just showing. But there were other games going on. Well,
- 30:37Speaker 2: there were, but not on that channel, I'm saying. But
- 30:40Speaker 2: there's nothing else going on, so they're just showing everything.
- 30:42Speaker 4: But how many people could have been watching that?
- 30:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I was surprised, Lance, they weren't doing look-ins to other games,
- 30:48Speaker 1: and they did a little bit of that with the
- 30:50Speaker 1: studio guys, but then they went basically 60 minutes on
- 30:53Speaker 1: the field there. And it was an LSU infomercial. And
- 30:57Speaker 1: I say that knowing for 17 years, Nick Saban got
- 31:02Speaker 1: nothing but positive press for the most part from the
- 31:05Speaker 1: national folks, from ESPN and from the people that broadcast
- 31:09Speaker 1: the Alabama games. But it looked like everybody was all
- 31:14Speaker 1: in on promoting this LSU program. As I sit and
- 31:16Speaker 1: watch that for 60 minutes and, I mean, good reason.
- 31:19Speaker 1: The atmosphere was unbelievable.
- 31:21Speaker 2: It was unbelievable.
- 31:22Speaker 1: And then they were able, because they had the extra time,
- 31:24Speaker 1: and it wasn't a game bleeding in, they were able
- 31:26Speaker 1: to get those guys locked behind the door with that
- 31:29Speaker 1: loud music playing. I was the old guy, turn that
- 31:32Speaker 1: music down before they say a cuss word.
- 31:34Speaker 4: But the atmosphere, look, I know it was different, but
- 31:37Speaker 4: it's always awesome.
- 31:38Speaker 2: It is. But when you have never been there, and
- 31:42Speaker 2: you're a recruit, and you're able to see that, that's
- 31:45Speaker 2: the kind of stuff that makes you want to go there. Now, listen.
- 31:47Speaker 2: It's all about money nowadays. I understand that.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And that's what was pointed out to me several times
- 31:52Speaker 1: on social media. Jim, it's about paychecks. 17-year-olds, 16-year-olds are
- 31:56Speaker 1: not watching TV.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Yeah, they're writing them down there.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but I would say that they've got the money too.
- 32:01Speaker 1: But that's the kind of atmosphere you want to play in.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It was a good show, man.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Okay, more just based on what we saw. When you
- 32:09Speaker 4: now look at their schedule, I think they're going to
- 32:10Speaker 4: be favored in every game. And that includes... Obviously, the
- 32:14Speaker 4: Ole Miss trip, they were a slight dog. They're going
- 32:17Speaker 4: to be favored now. They're going to be favored at
- 32:19Speaker 4: home against Bama. They're going to be favored at home
- 32:21Speaker 4: against Texas. They're going to be favored at Tennessee. I mean,
- 32:24Speaker 4: if it continues to play out like this, I don't
- 32:26Speaker 4: think they're going to win all their games. After one game,
- 32:29Speaker 4: I think that there is a different perception when it
- 32:32Speaker 4: comes to LSU.
- 32:33Speaker 2: We do a lot of week one knee jerk. What
- 32:34Speaker 2: was the comment in Monday Morning Live with Luganville about LSU-O-Miss,
- 32:38Speaker 2: that LSU will send Ole Miss into oblivion or something
- 32:41Speaker 2: like that, punt Ole Miss into oblivion?
- 32:43Speaker 4: Oh, I like Ole Miss now. I liked LSU. I
- 32:46Speaker 4: really do.
- 32:46Speaker 2: I like Ole Miss now. Now you're flipping the other way. Yeah,
- 32:48Speaker 2: I would flip the other way.
- 32:49Speaker 1: But real quick, all three of us, Brown, what did
- 32:53Speaker 1: we not– Not having it when we picked our college
- 32:56Speaker 1: football bracket.
- 32:57Speaker 4: LSU.
- 32:57Speaker 2: And if you made me do it again, I got
- 32:58Speaker 2: them number one in the country right now. Of course
- 33:00Speaker 2: I'd have them in my bracket.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So if we did our bracket again today or this
- 33:03Speaker 1: week at some point, LSU would be in there.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Into the bracket now?
- 33:08Speaker 4: I mean, I think Georgia is better than LSU, but
- 33:12Speaker 4: LSU Alabama right now, I mean, I don't know how
- 33:15Speaker 4: Alabama would beat that team. I really don't.
- 33:17Speaker 2: I don't either right now. Not through one game. And
- 33:19Speaker 2: especially there. Yeah. And I know the history.
- 33:22Speaker 4: I'll tell you how Ole Miss can do it straight
- 33:23Speaker 4: at that Jambliss.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Let me just say this, though. We focus so much,
- 33:27Speaker 2: because Lane wants us to, on off the field Lane Kiffin,
- 33:31Speaker 2: that sometimes you just forget to talk about his actual coaching.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:37Speaker 2: He took a team that couldn't run the ball to
- 33:39Speaker 2: save their life. They were worse than Alabama running the
- 33:41Speaker 2: football last year. And they were a dominant run team
- 33:44Speaker 2: Saturday night. You've got to admit that. Only the uniforms
- 33:48Speaker 2: are the same. That was one heck of a flip.
- 33:52Speaker 2: I figured that Blake Baker's defense was going to be really,
- 33:55Speaker 2: really good. And I think I even said this last week. Immediately,
- 33:59Speaker 2: you're going to see a dominant defense. But I think
- 34:02Speaker 2: the offense is going to take a little bit of.
- 34:03Speaker 4: Time to come around. But 309 yards on the ground.
- 34:04Speaker 4: 5.3 a carry. They're going to be able to run
- 34:09Speaker 4: the ball against anybody this year. And again, back to Alabama,
- 34:12Speaker 4: I don't think they necessarily will be. We'll see how
- 34:15Speaker 4: that plays out. But that shows you the impact. You
- 34:18Speaker 4: can't deny how good of an offensive coach Lane Kiffin is.
- 34:21Speaker 2: No, you cannot.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And Baker on defense, I know some of it because
- 34:25Speaker 1: it became a blowout, but they did not have one
- 34:28Speaker 1: defensive starter that played 40 snaps. So they're that deep
- 34:32Speaker 1: on the defensive side.
- 34:35Speaker 2: They look like an LSU team. I mean, they look
- 34:37Speaker 2: like the Saban-era LSU teams and Les Miles-era LSU teams.
- 34:41Speaker 4: 11 tackles for loss.
- 34:43Speaker 2: And the other side, Clemson, too. Well, Clemson's awful. That
- 34:47Speaker 2: was my takeaway, is that they played with aggression. They
- 34:50Speaker 2: were fast, but they were physical. Like Sam Leavitt was
- 34:53Speaker 2: a physical runner. Dylan Jones was a physical runner. 23
- 34:58Speaker 2: carries for that guy.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Yeah, like I don't know how. I mean, well, I do.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I mean, money.
- 35:03Speaker 4: But I give Luke Fickle credit. I thought the Joseph
- 35:07Speaker 4: kid looked better, although he did throw a couple of picks.
- 35:10Speaker 4: But Wisconsin's trying to get back to Wisconsin football, at
- 35:12Speaker 4: least that first half, grinding it out. How'd they let
- 35:15Speaker 4: that kid go, though? The Dylan Jones kid?
- 35:19Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know. Money. It's all about money, right? But,
- 35:24Speaker 2: I mean, that looked more like an LSU team that
- 35:29Speaker 2: used to scare you in the SEC, more so than
- 35:31Speaker 2: what Brian Kelly had where– you know, it's LSU. They
- 35:34Speaker 2: could play their A game and beat you. That looked
- 35:36Speaker 2: like the old LSU teams. You're like, dang, LSU's coming.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know how good Sam Leavitt is. I
- 35:40Speaker 4: think he's good, but I don't know how much it matters.
- 35:42Speaker 4: Like if you run the football like that and his
- 35:44Speaker 4: ability to run the football, if he stays healthy with
- 35:46Speaker 4: that defense and now you start to look at the
- 35:48Speaker 4: schedule again, week one, overreaction, I'm sure. But boy, they
- 35:52Speaker 4: did look, they looked violent.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I did want to, Andy said it, but you said
- 35:57Speaker 1: it all summer long. So I want to give you credit,
- 35:59Speaker 1: even though Andy just said it. but you said it
- 36:01Speaker 1: before you even saw him play, that Miami upgraded at
- 36:05Speaker 1: quarterback off of a team that played for the national championship.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I know it was Stanford, but you could go out
- 36:12Speaker 1: and just run your routes on air. He was 27
- 36:17Speaker 1: of 30. I mean, you ran 30 routes in practice.
- 36:20Speaker 1: You're going to probably drop three of them or overthrow
- 36:23Speaker 1: three of them or underthrow three of them. He was
- 36:25Speaker 1: 27 of 30.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Even if Stanford was air, He was 27 of 30
- 36:30Speaker 2: for 401 yards.
- 36:31Speaker 4: It was funny because these games were going on at
- 36:33Speaker 4: the same time, so I didn't have volume up in
- 36:34Speaker 4: the Miami-Stanford game. There was no reason to. I was
- 36:37Speaker 4: watching USC and Fresno State. I had to listen to RG3,
- 36:41Speaker 4: my God.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Maieva, by the way, 23 of 25. That's what I
- 36:44Speaker 2: was going to say. Equally competitive games, by the way.
- 36:47Speaker 4: But RG3 was like, you know, there was another Heisman
- 36:49Speaker 4: Trophy winner that had more touchdowns than incomplete passes through
- 36:53Speaker 4: three years.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Oh, he did, yeah. Talking about himself.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Talking about himself, yeah.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Unbelievable.
- 36:57Speaker 4: But so two quarterbacks were doing it at the same time.
- 36:59Speaker 4: But Mensah definitely, as good as Carson Beck was, the
- 37:02Speaker 4: experience Beck had, Mensah's got a ton of experience, too.
- 37:05Speaker 4: His third program. And just what they've got offensively. I
- 37:09Speaker 4: don't think they're as good defensively. I don't know how
- 37:11Speaker 4: much of that game you guys watched. I thought Stanford
- 37:13Speaker 4: had some chances at least between the 20s. They were
- 37:16Speaker 4: moving it a little bit. I think Miami without Mesador
- 37:21Speaker 4: and Bain, it's not going to be the same up front.
- 37:23Speaker 4: And it showed. I mean, when you look at Miami,
- 37:25Speaker 4: they had two tackles for losses and only one sack.
- 37:29Speaker 2: But the offense is going to be virtually unstoppable. Oh,
- 37:31Speaker 2: I would love Shannon Dawson's job all year long. To
- 37:34Speaker 2: be the OC at Miami with Malachi Toney. He would
- 37:38Speaker 2: be my, I mean, again. A good running game. Week one,
- 37:41Speaker 2: if I picked a Heisman Trophy winner after week one,
- 37:43Speaker 2: it's Malachi Toney. I mean, the guy is just. But
- 37:46Speaker 2: how do you not go Mensah, who's delivering him the football?
- 37:49Speaker 4: Yeah, Tony's special. I think Mensah's really good. Mensah might
- 37:53Speaker 4: end up being the first quarterback taken in this draft.
- 37:55Speaker 2: 27 of 30. It's hard to be worse than that.
- 37:57Speaker 4: But Tony can do absolutely everything. And, you know, going
- 38:00Speaker 4: back to the week one we saw him last year
- 38:01Speaker 4: against Notre Dame, a 17-year-old, he made it look easy
- 38:04Speaker 4: back then. Didn't put up these kind of numbers. But
- 38:07Speaker 4: where he is right now, I mean, that guy could
- 38:09Speaker 4: start on– he would be a one for, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 4: half the NFL right now.
- 38:14Speaker 2: That guy, Tony? Yeah. Yeah.
- 38:15Speaker 1: We're going to finish the Sporting State part of this show.
- 38:18Speaker 1: We'll get to Alabama-Auburn at 11 Central, 12 Eastern on
- 38:22Speaker 1: the next round platform. But we'll go back in the
- 38:25Speaker 1: next segment to just you select a game and tell me.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I think it's Lance's turn next. Just pick another game,
- 38:32Speaker 1: and we'll talk about that game, and we'll bounce around
- 38:35Speaker 1: the final segment. Maybe some comments in the chat room
- 38:38Speaker 1: as well when we come back. This is the next
- 38:40Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bets right here on Sporting State.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Next round rolls on here on Sporting State, presented by
- 38:46Speaker 1: Hard Rock Pets.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Three FCS teams beat FBS teams. Citadel over Charlotte, triple overtime.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Tarleton State won again. They beat Bowling Green. That's Eddie
- 38:59Speaker 2: George's team now. And Idaho State beat Utah State. Utah
- 39:03Speaker 2: State's first game as a Pac-12 member. Welcome in. Yeah.
- 39:07Speaker 1: And that's three FCS wins over the FBS. And the
- 39:10Speaker 1: Mac beat the Big Ten UMass over Rutgers and almost
- 39:14Speaker 1: did it again with Western Michigan over Michigan. But the
- 39:16Speaker 1: SEC was 16 and 0. The first time they didn't
- 39:21Speaker 1: lose a game in week one since 1997. Obviously, it's
- 39:26Speaker 1: the first time that they were 16 and 0. they
- 39:30Speaker 1: were sending out some graphics and stuff, too, so.
- 39:32Speaker 2: They're very proud of that.
- 39:35Speaker 1: But three of those were wins over Power Forward Conference teams,
- 39:39Speaker 1: LSU over Clemson, Ole Miss over Louisville, and Auburn over Baylor.
- 39:42Speaker 1: And as close as two of those games were, they're
- 39:45Speaker 1: still Pretty impressive win, a weekend.
- 39:47Speaker 2: For the SEC.
- 39:48Speaker 4: God, just so many ass whippings, which we thought. I mean,
- 39:51Speaker 4: we had some massive upsets and should have had another
- 39:53Speaker 4: with Western Michigan. But, you know, FBS versus FBS, there
- 39:56Speaker 4: was only nine one-possession games.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. It was a closer weekend, actually a more
- 40:01Speaker 2: entertaining weekend than I thought it was going to be, honestly.
- 40:04Speaker 1: As the cool thing is to say, or as Joe
- 40:06Speaker 1: Tess said, it's just good to have ball back, isn't it?
- 40:10Speaker 4: I thought about Scott.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Scott, I am so sorry. It's just good to have
- 40:14Speaker 2: ball back.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Could you even... Could he not have done any other game?
- 40:18Speaker 2: Could you even enjoy the final play? He went nuts
- 40:21Speaker 2: on that final play. Could you even enjoy it with
- 40:23Speaker 2: him calling it?
- 40:23Speaker 4: He's exhausting.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Yeah, he really is.
- 40:25Speaker 6: He is.
- 40:26Speaker 2: You know, I was... Everything can't be the most incredible
- 40:29Speaker 2: thing you've ever seen. Yeah, I know. Yeah, it's... I was.
- 40:36Speaker 1: I was surprised on that play that it wasn't even
- 40:40Speaker 1: close to the goal line.
- 40:41Speaker 2: You know, like... It looked like he was right at
- 40:43Speaker 2: the goal line. I thought they were going to have
- 40:45Speaker 2: to review this. Let's see the replay. Let's see the replay.
- 40:47Speaker 2: But it wasn't even close. His knee is down.
- 40:50Speaker 4: You know, and I'm thinking in real time, I wonder
- 40:52Speaker 4: why he didn't reach. But it was such an awkward throw.
- 40:54Speaker 2: That's right.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Like where his body was, like he couldn't even contort
- 40:58Speaker 4: around to be able to try to extend it.

- 42:14Speaker 4: So after 15 hours straight, literally 15 hours on the
- 42:18Speaker 4: couch on Saturday, I was like, I got to get
- 42:20Speaker 4: Bullet and Chili out Sunday morning. So I took them
- 42:22Speaker 4: to a local park I was taking to let them
- 42:24Speaker 4: run around and stuff. And then I came home and
- 42:26Speaker 4: did a ton of notes. And I wanted to make
- 42:28Speaker 4: sure that I was poolside to put on the 119th
- 42:33Speaker 4: edition of the Apple Cup. And this Washington team, we've
- 42:36Speaker 4: talked about the benefit of a schedule. You know, they've
- 42:39Speaker 4: got four difficult. They've got the Alabama SEC version or
- 42:43Speaker 4: the Big Ten Alabama version of a schedule for difficult games.
- 42:47Speaker 4: They go to and to good chance, 10 and two
- 42:49Speaker 4: college football playoff. That was some of the most undisciplined
- 42:53Speaker 4: football that I have ever seen. I don't know what
- 42:54Speaker 4: you guys thought, but Jed Fish, I've never liked the guy.
- 42:57Speaker 4: Another one of these visor guys I don't like. But
- 43:01Speaker 4: it's like they tried to not dominate that game, like
- 43:04Speaker 4: the stupid-ass penalties.
- 43:06Speaker 2: The late hits.
- 43:06Speaker 4: The late hit after late hit, just extending drives. It's
- 43:11Speaker 4: funny because when Washington State would finally score, then Washington
- 43:13Speaker 4: would go right down and score. Like, they wanted to
- 43:15Speaker 4: make sure, like, we don't want this too close, but
- 43:17Speaker 4: let's not cover that 22 and a half. But 12
- 43:20Speaker 4: penalties yesterday for Washington. DeMond Williams, that final run was incredible.
- 43:25Speaker 4: You know, we're... I can't believe they didn't tackle him
- 43:28Speaker 4: seven yards short of the marker there. But I don't know.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Washington looked really, really undisciplined. And I think that's going
- 43:35Speaker 4: to bite them once they get to Big Ten play.
- 43:38Speaker 2: I mean, it had to be at least five dead
- 43:40Speaker 2: ball fouls, right?
- 43:41Speaker 4: Well, there were back-to-backs, you know. And it was so funny.
- 43:44Speaker 2: It seemed like it was always third down.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Yeah, because I pointed it out. I was like, you know,
- 43:47Speaker 4: it's third and 16 now. Let's find– Let's watch and
- 43:51Speaker 4: seriously see how they find a way to keep Washington
- 43:53Speaker 4: State on the field. And then the late hit on
- 43:55Speaker 4: the sideline, it was like three seconds after the play.
- 43:59Speaker 4: And Jed Fish is just like, son of a bitch.
- 44:01Speaker 4: He's such a dick, too. Such a dick.
- 44:04Speaker 2: I've never met him, but the perception of him is
- 44:08Speaker 2: what you're saying.
- 44:09Speaker 4: The pregame, Zara, I forgot who the chick was that
- 44:12Speaker 4: was interviewing him. He was just a dick.
- 44:15Speaker 2: I was like.
- 44:15Speaker 4: Damn.
- 44:15Speaker 2: You've never liked this guy.
- 44:17Speaker 4: Never.
- 44:17Speaker 2: You've never liked him.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Lance, he rolled his eyes at the reporter as he
- 44:22Speaker 3: walked off. Like, what a dumb question, essentially, was what
- 44:25Speaker 3: his body language told him.
- 44:26Speaker 4: Yeah, before his team looked like shit.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Yeah. They're proud of that lake there, but it does
- 44:31Speaker 2: look like a place I'd like to go to the game. Oh, yeah.
- 44:34Speaker 2: A bump shot on NBC, they showed it a thousand times.
- 44:36Speaker 2: I told you guys. I went in.
- 44:39Speaker 4: In late January last year, I was on the other
- 44:42Speaker 4: side of the stadium, so I didn't get to see that.
- 44:44Speaker 4: really cool view. Yeah. We'll talk to, uh, our, our
- 44:48Speaker 4: Washington resident, uh, Brock Huard tomorrow on the show at 1130.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Look forward to that because the aerials and the weather
- 44:54Speaker 1: was perfect. They kept saying that, but it was, uh,
- 44:56Speaker 1: it looked like a place I'd want to go. Uh,
- 44:58Speaker 1: the aerials at Autzen.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Stadium, uh, it was competitive game, but that, that was beautiful. Well,
- 45:03Speaker 2: let's talk about that game because we've, we've referenced it
- 45:05Speaker 2: a couple of times, but what did you guys think
- 45:07Speaker 2: about Washington overall? I mean, I'm with you. I kind
- 45:10Speaker 2: of thought they were a, I thought they were a
- 45:13Speaker 2: French Big Ten playoff contender. Not going to win the
- 45:15Speaker 2: Big Ten. French Big Ten playoff contender. But after watching them,
- 45:20Speaker 2: and I didn't get to watch that entire game. I
- 45:21Speaker 2: played some golf yesterday. But the part of the game
- 45:23Speaker 2: I watched, I'm like, hmm.
- 45:24Speaker 4: I just thought Devon missed some easy. They had first
- 45:27Speaker 4: and goal inside the five twice and didn't get points.
- 45:30Speaker 1: First impression is I think Penn State and Wisconsin are
- 45:35Speaker 1: closer to Washington than Washington is to USC.
- 45:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree. I mean, USC and back to
- 45:40Speaker 4: Staples made this point. Gary Patterson wanted to shut out
- 45:43Speaker 4: Friday night.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Nobody's moving the ball on them. I can tell you that.
- 45:46Speaker 4: They've got so many 18-year-olds playing. That's the only thing
- 45:50Speaker 4: that scares me with USC. They're still identifying all their playmakers,
- 45:53Speaker 4: and they've got a bunch of them. I don't know
- 45:56Speaker 4: how you win with that type of youth at a
- 45:59Speaker 4: high level.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Andy Staple said this of Oregon, and he's right. Those
- 46:03Speaker 2: were not fluke yards by Boise State. Those were concerning
- 46:05Speaker 2: yards by Boise State. Maybe Boise... is just that good.
- 46:09Speaker 2: I don't know. Oregon was a 24.5-point favorite. That was
- 46:13Speaker 2: never even in doubt. Boise led that game for a
- 46:17Speaker 2: lot of the first half. I mean, Boise took the
- 46:19Speaker 2: fight to Oregon, and Oregon got stunned a little bit.
- 46:22Speaker 4: It got on the big for me for a while.
- 46:24Speaker 2: I don't know if.
- 46:25Speaker 4: I caught myself really pulling for Boise in that spot.
- 46:28Speaker 4: Were you guys pulling for them?
- 46:30Speaker 2: Just because I generally pull for chaos in college football, yes.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Because I generally like the chaos.
- 46:34Speaker 4: When they get the fourth and goal and they tie
- 46:37Speaker 4: it up there, you're like, damn, the pressure is all
- 46:39Speaker 4: on Oregon. I thought Oregon was really undisciplined. They had
- 46:42Speaker 4: the 10 penalties. They had a turnover. Just didn't. Again,
- 46:46Speaker 4: Boise plays them really good. Four and one all time
- 46:48Speaker 4: in five games, I think.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy. But you're right. Dan Lanning wearing sunglasses
- 46:53Speaker 2: while he was coaching. I thought that was a look.
- 46:55Speaker 4: He put on a couple of pounds in the offseason.
- 46:57Speaker 2: You know, as a guy who can do that, myself,
- 47:01Speaker 2: he did look like he would. He was enjoying his time.
- 47:03Speaker 2: A little inflated?
- 47:04Speaker 4: It's surprising with the nutritionist you've got and the access
- 47:08Speaker 4: to all.
- 47:09Speaker 1: The— They were not as buttoned up as much as
- 47:11Speaker 1: I thought they would be and probably as much as
- 47:13Speaker 1: they'll be when they play their first meaningful game.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Who do they play next? Nobody this week, too, right?
- 47:18Speaker 4: Well, I'll tell you right now who Oregon's got next.
- 47:19Speaker 4: They've got Oklahoma State.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Their first big one's USC, right?
- 47:25Speaker 4: Yeah, at SC, 926.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Which right now, you have said all offseason, SC's going
- 47:29Speaker 2: to win that game. Two weeks of SC plus one
- 47:32Speaker 2: week of Oregon. I kind of like to play there.
- 47:34Speaker 2: I mean, SC's defenses look that good.
- 47:37Speaker 4: Yeah. Now, I also said on the Friday Night Lance's
- 47:40Speaker 4: Log Show, you know, one of the questions was, what
- 47:42Speaker 4: team will be unrecognizable from last year to this year?
- 47:45Speaker 4: I was like, Oklahoma State. Like, the offense will immediately pop.
- 47:49Speaker 4: And boy, it did not.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Boy, I mean, I paid attention because Dunaway had Tulsa
- 47:52Speaker 2: in the upset alert. And you were... You mean Dr.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Picks?
- 47:56Speaker 2: Dr. Picks had Tulsa in the upset alert. Dr. Pix
- 48:00Speaker 2: is 1-0 with a very large lead after week one
- 48:02Speaker 2: because that was 14.5? Is that where you're playing at? 13.5.
- 48:05Speaker 4: 13.5?
- 48:05Speaker 2: Yeah. So you get the points plus the 13.5. It's
- 48:08Speaker 2: 18.5 to 0.
- 48:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I mean, that was.
- 48:12Speaker 2: That was an embarrassing performance by Oklahoma State. You know,
- 48:14Speaker 2: the most dangerous lead in upset alert, though, is 18-and-a-half
- 48:17Speaker 2: to zero. Yeah. Because it's not really far enough ahead
- 48:20Speaker 2: to feel comfortable. That's right. That week one lead. That
- 48:22Speaker 2: week one lead.
- 48:23Speaker 4: I mean, Oregon did not look like a– I mean,
- 48:25Speaker 4: they did force the three turnovers, but when you're plus
- 48:28Speaker 4: three against a group six at home and you win
- 48:30Speaker 4: the game by a possession, I know it's Boise State,
- 48:33Speaker 4: but still, there was a lot of disturbing.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I left there, of all the contenders–
- 48:39Speaker 2: of all of them. Oregon is the one that I
- 48:42Speaker 2: was probably most concerned about leaving week one. Some of
- 48:44Speaker 2: them were just unchallenged. You know, Texas is playing Texas State,
- 48:47Speaker 2: teams like that. They're just unchallenged, but they do what
- 48:49Speaker 2: they're supposed to do. Georgia, you know, it's funny. We
- 48:53Speaker 2: had the stat with Kirby Smart in games where he's
- 48:55Speaker 2: favored by 35 or more, and he had never covered
- 48:58Speaker 2: one of those. He covered and then some on Saturday.
- 49:01Speaker 2: I don't think Kirby was doing it because of that,
- 49:02Speaker 2: but I just think That's how good Georgia is.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Georgia's really good.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I would say this, and we'll have all week to
- 49:08Speaker 1: talk about Texas and Ohio State. That's just going to
- 49:11Speaker 1: be a tremendous game coming up Saturday night. Both those
- 49:14Speaker 1: teams did what they were supposed to do to Texas
- 49:16Speaker 1: State and Ball State. um penn state um i don't
- 49:20Speaker 1: know i don't think marshall is as bad as 45
- 49:22Speaker 1: to nothing penn state looked uh they looked buttoned up
- 49:26Speaker 1: they look good.
- 49:27Speaker 2: They look like a mac you know we said this
- 49:29Speaker 2: does it look more like matt campbell coaching penn state
- 49:32Speaker 2: or just penn state it That looked a lot like
- 49:36Speaker 2: what Matt Campbell did at Iowa State. A buttoned-up team.
- 49:39Speaker 2: They're not going to make dumb mistakes. They're not going
- 49:41Speaker 2: to make dumb penalties. They're not going to turn the
- 49:43Speaker 2: ball over. That's how he won those games at Iowa State.
- 49:46Speaker 4: People talk about you've got Ames East now with all
- 49:49Speaker 4: of these players transferring over, and will that equate to
- 49:52Speaker 4: success in the Big Ten? I'll tell you what, Will
- 49:54Speaker 4: is really good coaching. Experienced quarterback. Rocco Beck was really good.
- 49:57Speaker 4: 13 of 18, four touchdowns, no picks. But this shows
- 50:01Speaker 4: it right here. Four penalties and zero turnovers. That's impressive.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Buttoned up was an excellent way of describing that. They
- 50:09Speaker 2: look like what Matt Campbell's Iowa State teams did that
- 50:11Speaker 2: won all those games over the years. And then there
- 50:13Speaker 2: was Tennessee. I mean, the SEC and quarterbacks right now.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Chase Daniels, friend of.
- 50:18Speaker 1: The show, said SEC quarterbacks, best quarterback conference by far
- 50:23Speaker 1: than anybody else. We saw spots of great quarterback play
- 50:26Speaker 1: in other conferences, some great quarterback play in other conferences,
- 50:29Speaker 1: but Everybody seems to have a quarterback in the SEC,
- 50:34Speaker 1: and one of them is Faison Brandon, the rookie, the
- 50:39Speaker 1: first-year starter, the freshman at Tennessee. He put down a
- 50:42Speaker 1: record performance, five touchdowns and more touchdowns than he had
- 50:47Speaker 1: in incomplete passes.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Thank you, RG3. Yeah, 13 of 17, only the four
- 50:51Speaker 2: incomplete passes. I think— I thought Tennessee was going to
- 50:56Speaker 2: be a good play because I thought they were going
- 50:58Speaker 2: to do exactly what they did, which is let's build
- 51:00Speaker 2: some confidence in Faison Brandon. Let's leave this game before
- 51:04Speaker 2: he has to go on the road to Georgia Tech
- 51:06Speaker 2: with a confident quarterback. And I think that would have
- 51:08Speaker 2: to be mission accomplished, the way that guy played.
- 51:10Speaker 4: Yeah, and look, the offenses are always going to be good.
- 51:12Speaker 4: 638 yards, but I think you identified... maybe your playmaker
- 51:16Speaker 4: on the perimeter in Mike Matthews. 800 yards last year,
- 51:20Speaker 4: but big day, four grabs, 132 yards, a couple of touchdowns.
- 51:23Speaker 4: We know Deshaun Bishop's going to be able to run
- 51:25Speaker 4: the football, which will take a lot of pressure off
- 51:27Speaker 4: of Brandon. Tennessee's going to be interesting moving forward.
- 51:30Speaker 2: By the way, when George McIntyre got in there, he
- 51:32Speaker 2: played well, too. It was limited duty, obviously. Your whole
- 51:36Speaker 2: goal was to get Faison Brandon the snaps, but McIntyre,
- 51:39Speaker 2: from what I saw in that game, and honestly... That
- 51:42Speaker 2: was one of the games where I would just check
- 51:44Speaker 2: it occasionally. So most of what McIntyre did, I watched
- 51:48Speaker 2: on replay. So I don't know where we were on
- 51:50Speaker 2: like ones versus ones. And I know it was mop-up duty,
- 51:54Speaker 2: but I thought he looked the part. Two playoff contenders
- 51:56Speaker 2: really quick from the Big 12. A couple minutes left here.
- 52:00Speaker 2: I watched a lot of Houston and Oregon State because
- 52:02Speaker 2: I had a little juice on them. They were underwhelming.
- 52:06Speaker 4: Their secondary is awful.
- 52:08Speaker 2: And then Texas Tech and Abilene. I don't know what
- 52:10Speaker 2: to make of that. It was a shaky win for
- 52:11Speaker 2: Texas Tech. It was only 33-10. Yeah.
- 52:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know what you're going to— I didn't
- 52:14Speaker 4: watch any of it, but— Well, I didn't think their
- 52:18Speaker 4: defense was nearly what it was from last year. You
- 52:21Speaker 4: lose guys like David Bailey on the edge. I don't
- 52:25Speaker 4: know how good Will Hammond's going to be.
- 52:27Speaker 2: 26-33, threw for one touchdown against Abilene. I mean, 26-33
- 52:30Speaker 2: is really good. Yeah. I didn't watch one second of it.
- 52:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:34Speaker 2: I didn't either.
- 52:35Speaker 4: I watched way too much Houston because I had them
- 52:37Speaker 4: as well.
- 52:38Speaker 2: Me too.
- 52:38Speaker 4: And, you know, when they scored their last touchdown, I
- 52:41Speaker 4: felt pretty good about Houston. But their secondary is not good.
- 52:45Speaker 4: I thought Wegman made some bad decisions. And I don't
- 52:47Speaker 4: know how good their offensive line is. And that was
- 52:49Speaker 4: against Jamarcus Shepard, year one, Oregon State.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:54Speaker 1: After watching it all play out, if I'm BYU, I
- 52:57Speaker 1: feel really good. I'm not saying because they beat Utah Tech.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I'm just saying if I see.
- 53:02Speaker 2: What this version of Texas Tech looks like, this version
- 53:05Speaker 2: of Houston looks like. Okay, let me see the Arizonas.
- 53:11Speaker 4: There could be a wildcat being drawn tomorrow for me.
- 53:14Speaker 4: I'll just say that. And I like BYU. They're one
- 53:17Speaker 4: of my teams. I drafted them second in my Calcutta,
- 53:20Speaker 4: but There's a dangerous game coming up at 2.30. Maybe
- 53:24Speaker 4: the sneaky, good, dark horse game of the week in
- 53:27Speaker 4: week two.
- 53:28Speaker 2: It's got a little purple on it there. It's got
- 53:29Speaker 2: a little mauve or whatever color I put for the
- 53:32Speaker 2: interesting game.
- 53:33Speaker 4: You've only got two interesting games on here.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Outside of the SEC, yeah. There's going to be one
- 53:39Speaker 2: of them.
- 53:39Speaker 1: On our TV sheets, you can get this on social media.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I put the SEC in yellow because that's where we
- 53:44Speaker 1: originated from and then any other interesting game.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Is in whatever color that is, pink, I guess. And
- 53:49Speaker 2: it's sad when there's only two of them. Yeah, but
- 53:51Speaker 2: that just means all the interesting games are in the SEC.
- 53:53Speaker 4: Well, I think you are sleeping on one. I think
- 53:56Speaker 4: North Dakota State and Air Force could be.
- 53:59Speaker 2: I wasn't going to waste pink ink on that game.
- 54:03Speaker 2: We've got to dig deep on that one.
- 54:05Speaker 4: I'm telling you, that is a group six sleeper potential
- 54:08Speaker 4: team making a college football playoff.
