- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way, everybody.
- 0:27Good morning. We are in a severe drought here
- 0:32and it's actually been categorized as an extreme
- 0:35drought and it makes for very interesting gardening, growing,
- 0:40farming, whatever you may, you know, want to call it.
- 0:43Whatever I do, it's very, very challenging because there are
- 0:49lots of things that are not getting enough water.
- 0:52Turning the sprinklers on is wasting water.
- 0:55So I have been really working hard to try to navigate this and
- 1:00figure out the best ways to handle it.
- 1:03And this is one of those things that's such a great mental
- 1:05lesson because the truth of the matter is we have no control
- 1:09over this stuff. Like we have 0 control over this
- 1:13with these things when they happen and we just have to deal
- 1:16with them. And as they show up and we have
- 1:18to deal with them, it reminds us how little control we actually
- 1:22have over nature. Like today they're saying, OK,
- 1:25we're going to have some rain, but they're not saying how much
- 1:27rain we're going to have. You have literally they're like,
- 1:30oh, it could come in this way. It's coming from Georgia.
- 1:33Everybody's patiently waiting to see what's going to happen.
- 1:36And then it's like, oh, it's now the temperature is going to drop
- 1:38again. It has been the craziest,
- 1:41weirdest season so far. And I can do everything in the
- 1:45world to prep for it. I can have extra, you know,
- 1:48tomatoes. I can have extra because I
- 1:51obsess on growing tomatoes. So I want to always have a lot
- 1:53of them. I can have more pepper plants
- 1:56planted. I can hold back.
- 1:57I've still got things in the garden for that should be in the
- 2:00garden in the garage. I've got zinnias actually budded
- 2:04and ready to flower inside the grow room in the garage instead
- 2:08of in the ground from dealing with these conditions.
- 2:11So I'm like, OK, I've just got to manage my state, manage my
- 2:18emotions through it. And I realized this morning, I'm
- 2:22protecting some of these things way too much.
- 2:24I should put them out and see what happens.
- 2:26I can water, hand water, which I've been doing a ton of, even
- 2:30started a whole new Zinnia garden and it should be way
- 2:33ahead of where it is. But because we're not getting
- 2:36the rain and I'm conserving water, they're growing, but
- 2:40they're growing extremely slow. And it really makes you think
- 2:44about how you need to marry this, you know, information that
- 2:49I'm giving and saying, how does this show up in my own life?
- 2:53And I do that constantly for myself and be like, OK, well, if
- 2:56I'm not satiating myself and I'm not giving myself the right
- 2:59conditions, I can't grow at the right rate.
- 3:03And it comes up all the time in sessions talking to people.
- 3:06It comes up like, well, if you don't do this for yourself,
- 3:10you're not going to feel great. And I've even had recently one
- 3:14of the doctors that I coach was talking about how he's
- 3:18recognizing more and more and he thinks it's, you know, very
- 3:22curious to him how he had let that go, taking care of himself
- 3:25to take care of all the other patients.
- 3:26Well, that's what happens when you're in these roles that, you
- 3:29know, of being a healer of any kind.
- 3:33You give up parts of taking care of yourself.
- 3:36So all of these lessons are so curious to me and they just make
- 3:40me think all the time about how this is not a process you do
- 3:44once or twice or quarterly. It's a process you do moment to
- 3:48moment every single day. Because if you don't, you will
- 3:52suffer the consequences. You will.
- 3:54You will absolutely not be the best version of yourself you can
- 3:58be. And as I try to make these
- 4:01plants be the best versions of themselves they can be, I
- 4:05already know I'm dealing with a challenging situation.
- 4:09So I have to think differently. I have to believe differently.
- 4:12I have to act differently. And we have to do that for
- 4:17ourselves too. We have to take that information
- 4:21and say, OK, how am I going to adapt?
- 4:24Where is my adaptability showing up?
- 4:27Is it even showing up? And as I pivot and constantly
- 4:31doing the pivots, like I'm really always pivoting with
- 4:33this, especially with this water thing, because you can't survive
- 4:36without water. Life requires water.
- 4:39And if you hold back on the water, you cut back on the
- 4:44what's going to be showing up in in your in your garden, in your
- 4:47life, everything. So it's it's not a question of
- 4:52saying I'm stuck or this sucks. Sure.
- 4:56Is it not fun? No, it's not fun.
- 4:58But guess what? It is a space for learning.
- 5:01It is a space for growing. So I'm asking myself every day,
- 5:06how can I do this better? What am I missing?
- 5:09Anything. What else should I be looking
- 5:11at? I'm changing the questions, I'm
- 5:14pushing myself. I made this whole section of the
- 5:17garden where I've got, you know, and I had planned this part
- 5:20anyway, grow tubs, and I had planned growing right in the
- 5:23ground. That way I've got a variable in
- 5:26case something happens with the virus that they can get.
- 5:29I've got lots of different things.
- 5:31I didn't count on the fact that we'd have voles that would eat
- 5:33roots. I didn't count on the water
- 5:35situation. But I am adapting, so adapt my
- 5:40friends. Learn from this, look around,
- 5:42ask the right questions because that is the key and it's moment
- 5:46to moment, day-to-day. All right my friends, I will see
- 5:49you tomorrow and I hope you have a blessed day.
- 5:51Bye.
