- 0:09Clinton: Welcome in.
- 0:10Welcome in.
- 0:11Welcome, friends, to the newest edition of Sea Hawkers: What If, the most unique
- 0:16Seahawks preview show in the multiverse.
- 0:19I am joined by my good buddy, Mr.
- 0:22Brandan.
- 0:23Brandan, we are also joined, of course…
- 0:24Brandan, I forgot your last name there for a second.
- 0:26I, I don't know why.
- 0:27Yeah, it doesn't…
- 0:27It's not important.
- 0:27I- it's only been, like, nine years.
- 0:28Brandan Schulze.
- 0:29I was like, "Brandan Brandan."
- 0:30Yeah.
- 0:30Back-to-back, so.
- 0:31Brandan, yeah.
- 0:32This is going great so far.
- 0:33That's a cool name, Brandan Brandan.
- 0:33Yeah.
- 0:33Brandan Brandan, double Brandons.
- 0:35I'm thinking about
- 0:35Brandan: changing it.
- 0:36Clinton: Maybe an A and then an O, so people will be like, "Well, what
- 0:38are you, which one's which now?"
- 0:39Which one's
- 0:39Brandan: which?
- 0:39Nobody
- 0:40Clinton: knows.
- 0:40Yeah.
- 0:40We're off the rails early.
- 0:41I love it.
- 0:41Getting us back on the rails, of course, is the protector of this multiverse, Mr.
- 0:45Phil Lydick.
- 0:46And boys, we are ready for week two for this Seahawks going to the desert.
- 0:51They're wearing their rival uniforms, which is kinda cute.
- 0:54And our 1 and 0 Seahawks have to take on a seemingly competent
- 0:581 and 0 Arizona Cardinals.
- 1:01Brandan, how you feeling about this matchup that maybe they're okay?
- 1:04Brandan: I…
- 1:05You know, it's funny.
- 1:06I…
- 1:07Cardinals fans are so mistake- I've never seen them so confident
- 1:13after just a week one win, and maybe it's because week one wins are rare.
- 1:17I don't know, I haven't looked it up.
- 1:19But, listening to Cardinals fans this week has been entertaining, because
- 1:25y- you- they beat a, you know, fringe playoff team from last year, and all
- 1:30of a sudden they have th- these big ideas of, "Oh, hey, maybe, maybe fans
- 1:35will show up to the game this week.
- 1:37the…
- 1:38And we're playing the Seahawks.
- 1:40Th- this is gonna be fun, because there might actually be fans at the stadium"
- 1:45Phil: Well, the thing about people that believe in week one
- 1:48is they're the type of people that salesmen should look for.
- 1:51'Cause people that believe in week one of NFL things will believe anything.
- 1:56They're the most gullible people in the world.
- 1:58We all know if we've been a fan for a period of time, week one is
- 2:01the biggest liar in all of America.
- 2:03So- Phil
- 2:04Brandan: Phil, the Rams are going to
- 2:05Clinton: 0-17.
- 2:07Phil: Okay, what can I sell you, Brandan?
- 2:08It's true.
- 2:09What can I sell you?
- 2:11Clinton: Absolutely true.
- 2:11So we're gonna get into all of it.
- 2:13We will…
- 2:13So we're, we're diving right in, so we, we might as well not delay.
- 2:17And w- part of What If is we do this delicious little, you know, preview that
- 2:21we call Previously with The Protector, where if you didn't watch Cardinals
- 2:25Chargers, and, you know, why would you, we're gonna run through it real quick.
- 2:29So Mr.
- 2:29Phil will take us through this, then we're gonna hear our theme, then we're
- 2:32gonna go through six questions that Mr.
- 2:34Phil has concocted, that we do not know what they are, so we're gonna answer live.
- 2:38And if you wanna play along live while, while you're watching the recording
- 2:41put your answers as comments live, because Brandan and I, we shouldn't
- 2:45be the only two people tap dancing, though we're gonna do our best.
- 2:47But Phil, the Cardinals, they win this game going away.
- 2:51What did you see?
- 2:52Phil: Well, I did watch it.
- 2:53It was the only game on that mattered for us in the NFC West.
- 2:57And it was a fascinating, interesting game.
- 2:59I kind of was hoping that the Chargers might actually be good this
- 3:03year, except for when we play them.
- 3:05I kinda was hoping they'd be good when they play the other teams in
- 3:08the NFC West, but they sure weren't.
- 3:10They…
- 3:11Week one, if week one says anything about a team, it says the
- 3:14Chargers have a long ways to go.
- 3:16I think they will improve, but they looked pretty poor in this one.
- 3:19Mm-hmm.
- 3:19the third down was awful.
- 3:21They could not control the clock because for some reason
- 3:24they weren't running the ball.
- 3:26the turnovers were a problem for them.
- 3:28The Cardinals weren't all-dominating, but they definitely dominated the, the
- 3:32takeaways and they kept the ball moving.
- 3:34The yards, I mean, they, they outr- they out-yarded them by 125.
- 3:40Wow.
- 3:40The time of possession was 15 minutes different, if you watched that game.
- 3:44Brissett looked, Like a bottom-end starter- Okay
- 3:50just like our top-end backup.
- 3:52I think there's, there's some similarity there.
- 3:54He was, he's pretty careful with the ball.
- 3:56He's good at getting completions, when he's not being pressured.
- 4:00he didn't have a ton of pressure, so that made it pretty easy for him.
- 4:05What'd you guys see when you watched this particular match up, Brandan?
- 4:08Brandan: Well, it's interesting because you have the turnover
- 4:10differential, two takeaways.
- 4:13It, it was almost- Giveaway… worse than that because they had the
- 4:16fumble, they had the interception-
- 4:17Phil: Yeah
- 4:18… Brandan: but they turned it over on downs.
- 4:20well, and they had the blocked punt, so- Yeah, that's
- 4:22true… the, there was that, that I think counts as a takeaway.
- 4:26And then- It did, yeah… yeah, the, the turnovers on downs which, yeah, one
- 4:31two, three, and four if you count the blocked punt being a turnover on downs.
- 4:36So it was really, even though it shows two turnovers- Yeah, it was
- 4:40more… it was more like six.
- 4:42Phil: Yeah, it was bad.
- 4:43Brandan: And that's no way to win a football game.
- 4:44Yeah.
- 4:44Especially when you have a blocked punt that is right in the, in front of
- 4:48your end zone, and that's how they get the, the, the one- the first touchdown
- 4:51drive by the Cardinals was legit.
- 4:53Yeah.
- 4:53But, and I mean, the second touchdown was legit, it
- 4:57was just, it only took them three yards to get in the end zone.
- 4:59Phil: Line of scrimmage advantage was all about the Cardinals throughout this.
- 5:03They looked like they were ready to play, and the, the s- the trenches
- 5:07of the Chargers weren't there really.
- 5:09It was pretty embarrassing.
- 5:10Clinton: Yeah, I think that was the part that stood out for me the most besides
- 5:13the turnovers that Brandan's pointing to.
- 5:15I mean, it was only a two-point game when that, when that punt gets blocked.
- 5:18As bad as the Chargers are playing, it's a two-point game.
- 5:21And then they get the blocked punt and they walk in and
- 5:23basically get in the end zone.
- 5:24And- And it
- 5:24Brandan: shouldn't have been a two-point game because if they would've
- 5:27just taken the field goal at the end of the first half, they would've- Oh
- 5:30they would've had the- There you go… wouldn't they?
- 5:32At least tied it or had the lead going into halftime.
- 5:34Clinton: Yeah, that, that makes sense.
- 5:35I
- 5:36Brandan: mean- Oh, no.
- 5:36Yeah, so it was tied.
- 5:37They could've kicked the field goal.
- 5:39They opted to go for it on fourth down, and then Arizona drove down and scored
- 5:42the field goal right before halftime.
- 5:43Clinton: Oh, so that- that's a six-point swing right there.
- 5:45Right.
- 5:45So bad management, and this is not…
- 5:48I mean, look, the, the Cardinals have, have LaFleur, maybe the better LaFleur
- 5:52because Gr- the Green Bay LaFleur, he sure knows how to take points off the board
- 5:56and then, and then, cripple another fourth quarter for his Green Bay Packers.
- 5:59So we'll see, but that's, you know, not usually what you're
- 6:02gonna get from a Harbaugh team, but that's a big swing right there.
- 6:05And overall, dudes, like, look, it's, it's like are the Chargers that bad?
- 6:10Are the Cardinals that good?
- 6:12Phil: Neither.
- 6:13Clinton: I don't- exactly.
- 6:14I don- I don't think it's, I don't think it's either.
- 6:16And when you see the Cardinals, like, just getting after Herbert with, with
- 6:21intensity, with the pass rush, it's like, man, what's up with this Chargers o-line?
- 6:25I know they're kinda, they're kinda back, and they got dudes back who are coming
- 6:29off of major injuries, but- O- okay.
- 6:33It did, it just did, it was bad news for the Chargers kind of all day long.
- 6:37So, I- we'll talk about it.
- 6:39We're gonna get into our review now, but anything else from your, your perspective
- 6:42there, Phil, on Arizona or a nugget or two that you thought is worth talking about?
- 6:47Phil: Their linebacker play looks pretty good.
- 6:49I did not ex- their edge group is supposed to not be good, but they didn't look
- 6:53as horrible as I expected them to look.
- 6:55Obviously, you'd go in knowing McBride's gonna be awesome
- 6:57and of course he's awesome.
- 6:59So I mean, spam McBride if I'm, if I'm their coordinator.
- 7:02But they were running the ball with both backs well, decently well.
- 7:06Not…
- 7:07They weren't dominating, but they were running well with them.
- 7:09I think both Allgeier and Love could be a problem, but
- 7:12probably not for the Seahawks.
- 7:14I, I just, the, the Chargers didn't look ready.
- 7:18They didn't, especially didn't come out in the second half looking like
- 7:21they knew what they were doing.
- 7:22It was kind of embarrassing for them.
- 7:24I, I think it was more the Chargers not being up for it than I thought
- 7:28that the Cardinals looked awesome.
- 7:29That was for me, that, from what I was seeing.
- 7:31Clinton: Yeah.
- 7:32I like to call them linebackers.
- 7:33Let's talk about them more a bit later.
- 7:35Brandan, you talked about listening to some Arizona podcasts.
- 7:38Got a lot of Arizona podcasts in my ear this week, and they were glowing
- 7:42about some of the linebacker play.
- 7:44So I'm sure- Oh, okay… we'll talk about that.
- 7:45Yeah, really- I didn't know
- 7:46Brandan: there were multiple.
- 7:46I thought I found the only one.
- 7:51Clinton: Funny.
- 7:51Well, they have, like, you know, two fans, so one podcast, two fans.
- 7:54Sounds about right.
- 7:55Good ratio.
- 7:56Phil: How about we get to the theme?
- 7:57Yes.
- 7:57The theme, of course, we have a game.
- 7:59This is a very special game for a special man.
- 8:02He gets to s- start with the Seahawks.
- 8:05We get the hose.
- 8:06You, you know-… John Schneider, when he talked about when we had the trade
- 8:09for Russell Wilson, and we got Drew Lock coming, he goes, "The man's got a hose."
- 8:14So I found him already practicing hosing off the Cardinals.
- 8:18We s- ha- had someone get in there and, and snap a picture for us.
- 8:21Brandan: Good.
- 8:21Phil: So we have Drew Lock going down to Arizona, and what if, gentlemen
- 8:27what if the Cards are hosed as they face Drew Lock and the Seahawks, this week?
- 8:33Clinton will get to go first on where we go.
- 8:35Everything has something to do with hosing things.
- 8:37We have air, like an air hose, spray, flow, radiator, garden, or fire.
- 8:44That's what, Drew is using there in the picture.
- 8:47Clinton, where will we go first?
- 8:48Clinton: Yeah, this is fun.
- 8:49Always love your themes, man, so and I love that it's focused on Drew
- 8:53Lock, the hose, and I'm sure we'll explore all the, all the avenues.
- 8:57Look, I could think about being a youth and being thirsty and playing wiffle
- 9:01ball and-… hitting up the garden hose for a cold drink of water like we did
- 9:06in the 1980s and, you know, early 90s.
- 9:09Phil: Yeah, we had a half-court basketball right
- 9:12where, in my front yard, and I…
- 9:14People were there all the time.
- 9:15Like, after school, we were there till dinner.
- 9:17My mom always had cookies going.
- 9:19And we just kinda left the garden hose going all the time.
- 9:22And as you're playing ball- It's good drink.
- 9:24It's good drink… just people rotate around.
- 9:25Yeah, yeah.
- 9:25three on three, four on four, whatever it is, rotate around and
- 9:28drink it out of the garden hose.
- 9:30So we have a lovely garden here.
- 9:32Clinton, what if we talk about growth?
- 9:33When I think about gardens, I think about growth.
- 9:35Where do we most need to see growth from our Seahawks from last week
- 9:39going into this week, Clinton?
- 9:41Clinton: Yeah, good question.
- 9:42this to me is the one, we were in the stands for last game.
- 9:46We saw the 13-10 victory.
- 9:48We see the comeback.
- 9:49We see Price.
- 9:50We see JSN do his thing, and the other side of the coin was
- 9:54we saw some sloppiness, right?
- 9:56Yeah.
- 9:56So the growth can simply be, being a more professional football team-
- 10:01Yeah… for, for 60 full minutes.
- 10:03And, you know, to quantify that a little bit more or try to quantify
- 10:06it or get it towards quantification, we're just talking about like, hey
- 10:10getting plays in on time, not taking delay of game penalties, not having
- 10:14more offsides or false starts than your opponent, especially last week at home.
- 10:19just cl- clean it up, right?
- 10:22I mean, that to me, with Fleury in game two now with, with, Drew
- 10:27Lock in what will be basically a f- you know, full second game two and a
- 10:30full week of practice, I understand why that would happen in week one with
- 10:34a new OC and a backup quarterback.
- 10:36Yes.
- 10:36I, I could…
- 10:36I have some grace for that.
- 10:39And then I think it ends.
- 10:39It's like, and I think Mike Macdonald is gonna be like, "No, we're not leaving
- 10:43points on the board because on, for the three-yard line we take a delay of game
- 10:47then have a procedural pen- penalty."
- 10:48Not happening again.
- 10:49So there's other ways you cer- we certainly can grow, but even if we just
- 10:54play way more clean, I think we'll see the kind of growth that we're after.
- 10:58Phil: That would've been my number one on the board.
- 11:00You took it off the board.
- 11:01Brandan, you're gonna have to think a little bit harder.
- 11:04Where would you like to see growth other than- Yeah… cleaning up the
- 11:07ridiculous unprofessional penalties?
- 11:09Brandan: Penalty is definitely number one answer off the board.
- 11:11I, I think number two answer is Drew Lock, because now going into this
- 11:15week, he's the starting quarterback.
- 11:17And, and, and I think how we see that play out in terms of growth
- 11:22is, we saw a lot of JSN.
- 11:26And we- Mm-hmm… you would expect that because he's your number one player.
- 11:30But now that he has had an entire week to work with the offense, work
- 11:35with the number ones, spreading the ball around and getting other people
- 11:39involved, especially if the Cardinals go into this game, you know, you
- 11:43see other teams try and take away JSN too, and it doesn't necessarily work.
- 11:47I mean, the Patriots didn't go into that game going, "Oh, you know what?
- 11:50JSN 100 yards, like we can, we can live with that."
- 11:53the, the Cardinals, they may not be able to stop him, but I think th- that
- 11:58having that connection then with some of the other pass catchers, with A.J.
- 12:02Barner, you know, got a really good tight end on the other side of the field that
- 12:05I'm sure we're gonna talk about today.
- 12:07Mm-hmm.
- 12:07But, you know, getting other components of the offense
- 12:11involved in the passing game.
- 12:13Phil: Yeah, that's, that's a good call for sure.
- 12:15I dig it.
- 12:15I'd love to see some, some growth that way.
- 12:17But don't grow to where you get risky with the ball.
- 12:19So grow and, but continue to do a good job of taking care of the ball.
- 12:23Garden is gone, so we will have…
- 12:27Oh, that's the wrong one.
- 12:28We don't wanna put a little light on there, do we?
- 12:29We wanna cross it out.
- 12:31How about that?
- 12:31There we go.
- 12:32How about we cross it out, Brandan?
- 12:33Yeah.
- 12:33So now you know which five you get to choose from.
- 12:35Brandan: Now we know where to go next.
- 12:37It's gonna be radiator because- Mm
- 12:40a radiator is a, an important part of your car, as I found out
- 12:43one time-… visiting the gorge.
- 12:45And, had, had the, the plug, burst out of my radiator and
- 12:51then I was, stranded until I could get some more coolant in my
- 12:55car- Yeah… and, keep moving.
- 12:57Phil: You were hosed until you got the-… thing next to
- 13:00the radiator hose cor- corrected.
- 13:02Exactly.
- 13:02Which was the actual radiator itself.
- 13:04Brandan, what if Price and his O-line can heat things up?
- 13:07Radiators warm up, don't they?
- 13:09Where should Fleury find success in the run game down in Arizona?
- 13:15Brandan: Ooh, where should they find success?
- 13:18I, I think just through, you know, keeping the ball…
- 13:23Y- Clinton and Adam talked about this a little bit with Thomas
- 13:26Rawls in, their preview- Yeah
- 13:28with him yesterday.
- 13:30And just the, the fact that the offense was so limited, because they…
- 13:36Even though they didn't…
- 13:37I don't, I don't think we had a single three-and-out.
- 13:40maybe we did- Mm… unless I'm forgetting.
- 13:43But, Yeah.
- 13:44I don't think
- 13:45Phil: so
- 13:45… Brandan: the, they still, 40 plays is not enough.
- 13:48And so I think just continuing to have that balance, I, I
- 13:54think they can have some more success against this run defense.
- 13:57And, I know, you know, they're, they're hyped about their linebackers
- 14:03but I think that, I th- I think in particular with the edges, with our
- 14:10offensive tackles against this Cardinals edge group, I think that that's where
- 14:15I could see us having more success.
- 14:16But I also, I, I love running up the middle too- Yeah.
- 14:20because, we, we've seen our team be able to have success there, and
- 14:24Price seems to have that vision.
- 14:26So, I'd like to see a little more Price.
- 14:30And I'm, I'll, I'll, I'll s- I'll just say the edges.
- 14:33Phil: You would like, you think we can have some success…
- 14:35I think that's a good call, and I, I also agree with where you're at.
- 14:38Like, we would like to do well in the inside, but, we should be able to
- 14:42have some suc- success on the edges.
- 14:43I just think having
- 14:43Brandan: more volume is gonna- Mm… generate more success.
- 14:47Phil: How about you, Clinton?
- 14:48Do you have a, do you have a great answer here for this, difficult
- 14:50question that I've proposed?
- 14:53Clinton: I mean, so I think I, I was gonna go to- towards volume
- 14:57also, being like, and that goes back to the number of plays- Yeah
- 14:59but also just getting, getting Price upwards of 16 plus, 18
- 15:03plus, more, a more cowbell-ish before our Charbonnet gets back.
- 15:07Can we, can we use him as a legit RB1 and, and, you know, 10 for 52 is good
- 15:1318 for 130 sure feels achievable and, and really, really, really solid.
- 15:19Ro- Roy Lopez is, is dinged up, but, you know, he's just on the…
- 15:22He was, limited yesterday.
- 15:24Big defensive tackle, that's pretty darn good.
- 15:26Yeah.
- 15:26They have a bunch of like, you know, people like me might know some of
- 15:29these names, like Dante Stills, Josh Sweat, you know, and then- He's
- 15:33Phil: hurt, right?
- 15:33Or he's taking a, he's just taking a rest day.
- 15:35Clinton: He was not back yet.
- 15:36Yeah, he wasn't back yet.
- 15:37And then, like, Walter Nolen, who c- who, who was a second-year guy, I think
- 15:40from Ole Miss, just a big body, about 300 pounder, dead smack in the middle too.
- 15:44He's talented.
- 15:45He'll, he'll eat two, you know, he'll eat up to, double teams all day.
- 15:48He's a pretty talented guy.
- 15:50So, you know, it's a bit of, like, a no-name defense, but
- 15:53it's, I think it's actually okay.
- 15:55I think their defensive line is not that bad, and they got some
- 15:58interesting, cornerbacks as well.
- 16:00So I do like the idea of, look, we are, we are still gonna be a wide zone team.
- 16:05Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 16:06Clinton: And like we talked about with Thomas Rawls, Thomas' big call-out
- 16:10about, like, watching Ja'Darian Price was he's extremely consistent with
- 16:14knowing whe- when he picks the right place to go with the ball, and then
- 16:18he's extremely decisive and gets up field when he does make the call.
- 16:21So he was, so Thomas was very impressed with, like, his consistency of being
- 16:26like, you made the, you made the o- the offensive line look good there.
- 16:30Like, y- you, you ran it exactly as it was scripted.
- 16:32The hole was there.
- 16:33You trusted it, and you got as much as you could in that particular run
- 16:36which is cool to hear from a- Yeah
- 16:38an NFL running back who, who knew his stuff.
- 16:40Yeah.
- 16:40So beyond the volume, I do think we…
- 16:43The beautiful part about Price, and the beautiful part about wide zone is
- 16:46that you could keep trying to get the edge, but with a runner like Price and
- 16:53the, the athleticism of our o-line-
- 16:55Phil: Counter it
- 16:55… Clinton: the, the, the cutback lanes are gonna be- Yeah
- 16:57there as well as the overpursue.
- 16:59So cool.
- 17:00We saw that in the very first play of the game last, last
- 17:02last time against the Pats.
- 17:04So it's a little bit of a- You know, combo platter there of volume plus
- 17:09yeah, keep being who you are, go outside, and let Price be who he is, which is
- 17:16if he doesn't see it there, he puts his foot in the ground, decides to cut
- 17:19it back up the A or B, all day long.
- 17:22We are more athletic than they are.
- 17:24Our offensive line is really athletic, which means we're getting to second
- 17:28levels- Yeah… we're pinning dudes, and we're in position where Price
- 17:32doesn't need a giant hole, he needs a seam, and it's kind of perfectly set
- 17:37up for him to have a nice big day.
- 17:39Phil: Yeah, when I'm talking about heating things up, it's
- 17:41kind of like, did we see him?
- 17:42Yeah, we saw him, we saw him play, but can we really feel him this week?
- 17:45Like, is he gonna affect the, the temperature of the game a little bit more?
- 17:50That's kind of what I'm hoping for.
- 17:51Yeah.
- 17:52And probably like you're saying, it's just volume.
- 17:53Like- Well
- 17:54Clinton: yeah
- 17:55… Phil: he didn't have many bad runs.
- 17:56Clinton: I didn't mean to cut you off there too, but like you did
- 17:57spur a different idea quickly is like, you know, we didn't see him
- 18:00really much at all on third down.
- 18:02Right.
- 18:02So just th- that particular place, can we see him on third down, or can we
- 18:06see him in the screen game at all too?
- 18:09So there's some other ways that it might, we might get more, a
- 18:12little bit more Price for our, for our buck, which would be cool.
- 18:15' Phil: Cause you open the hood, you feel the radiator, right?
- 18:18I would like to like- Open
- 18:19open this game up and get a feel that Price is-
- 18:23Clinton: The guy
- 18:23… Phil: impacting the temperature.
- 18:24Yep.
- 18:24Yeah.
- 18:25He's getting hot.
- 18:25Clinton: Love it.
- 18:26Phil: Clinton, you get to go next.
- 18:27Air, spray, flow, or fire?
- 18:28Clinton: Hmm.
- 18:29Let's go, you know, it's nice to be in a really good flow.
- 18:32Let's go with flow.
- 18:33Phil: Get the flow.
- 18:34Let's see what we got there.
- 18:35Here we go, Clinton.
- 18:36What if the Hawks can block the flow of the Cards run game?
- 18:39They had 116 yards last week split up between Allgeier and Love.
- 18:43What should we, what do you think we should hold them down to?
- 18:47And you can give yards or not, but, kinda how are we gonna shut d-
- 18:51turn the faucet off, so to speak, from the Cards run game this week?
- 18:55Clinton: Yeah, very different backs, complimentary.
- 18:58I like Tyler Allgeier.
- 18:59I always did.
- 19:00Yeah.
- 19:00I want him.
- 19:00I thought they…
- 19:01I th- exactly.
- 19:02When we had, like, when we knew that K9 was probably walking out the
- 19:05door, and then what he signed for, it's, like, five-something million.
- 19:09I'm like, "Okay, this guy was a legitimate, a legitimate, second
- 19:13punch down in, than in Atlanta, just behind Bijan," who of course you're
- 19:16gonna, you're gonna feed Bijan.
- 19:18But he's a different type of back.
- 19:19Certainly has the power, very good at the goal line, very good on the tough
- 19:22yards, and a good runner overall.
- 19:24you know, so I think any team is still gonna have a hard time with
- 19:30with our defensive tackles and our linebacker corps, and our edge.
- 19:33It's just we're very, very good against the run.
- 19:35But I'm not saying anything, out of the ordinary here that people
- 19:38don't know about, of course, already.
- 19:40Phil: Well, we're, like, the best tackling team on opening week.
- 19:43Like, we're not even, we don't even need to get with it on that.
- 19:46Clinton: It's very difficult to run against the Seahawks, and that's
- 19:48it, it's such an advantage, and that's without Emmanwori, who maybe
- 19:51he's back, but we'll, we'll see.
- 19:53But it's extremely difficult, we know this, to run against our team.
- 19:56with, with that, Jeremiah Love is different.
- 20:01Jer- you know, in the sense that, like, a, a player like Allgeier, I think
- 20:05bottling him, him up like we did with R- Rhamondre is pretty darn similar.
- 20:10You know?
- 20:10It's like maybe- It does… there's some variance of skill here or
- 20:13there, but they're bigger, they're stronger, and they're pretty
- 20:16good at getting the tough yards.
- 20:18We had no problem bottling up Rhamondre St- Rhamondre Stevenson last week.
- 20:22on the opposite side of that, you know, Love has got more…
- 20:26I, he, I don't think he has the skill level of Jahmyr Gibbs.
- 20:29It's, it's not as flashy or as quick on, on film to me.
- 20:34But he's more violent, and he, he has this, Isaiah Pacheco, and I
- 20:40say that in a good way, like a plus Isaiah Pacheco to him Where he's kinda
- 20:44wild, and he kinda takes these…
- 20:46His body movement's different and he, and he himself can get
- 20:49to the outside successfully.
- 20:51His touchdown run, he did exactly that.
- 20:53So our edge group, which I am highly confident in, but we're talking D Law
- 20:58Nwosu, and Hall, et cetera, et cetera.
- 21:00The edge group I think has to play even better than last week, which
- 21:03was phenomenal against the Patriots, because I think the type of runner
- 21:07who likes to bounce it outside with Love, it just calls for it.
- 21:11And I have no problem with us rallying behind that, with Spoon crashing
- 21:14down or Jobe crashing down- Mm-hmm.
- 21:16Brandan: Yep
- 21:16… Clinton: or, Drake flowing to the outside to be where he's supposed
- 21:20to be, and they work as a system.
- 21:22But I think our edges will be more challenged because Love likes to
- 21:26bounce the ball when he can, and he's, he's pretty damn fast, guys.
- 21:30Phil: How about you, Brandan?
- 21:31Which one of these guys are you most worried about, and, what
- 21:34do you, which one, how do you think we're gonna hold him down?
- 21:36Brandan: Our Seahawks have not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 27 straight games.
- 21:42Phil: Yeah.
- 21:43Is that good?
- 21:43That
- 21:43Phil: sounds good.
- 21:44Brandan: That sounds pretty good.
- 21:44That's very good.
- 21:45Yeah.
- 21:45And really, the, the 116 yards, it's, 14 of those were J.K.
- 21:50Brisset, so you did have Love and Allgeier combined for a
- 21:55little over 100, just slightly.
- 21:57It's interesting listening to Cardinals fans talk about, they're very
- 22:02sensitive to this comparison of Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price-
- 22:07Hmm… because I, I heard them talking about, "Oh, after week one
- 22:10this argument should already be over.
- 22:12Jeremiah Love had a touchdown."
- 22:16Clinton: Right.
- 22:16Right.
- 22:16Brandan: Okay.
- 22:17So, okay.
- 22:18Yeah.
- 22:18Yeah, but he also had 11 carries for 41 yards.
- 22:21Like- Yeah… they, they were fairly even in terms of, their
- 22:25rushing contribution to each team.
- 22:27But, yeah- Allgeier
- 22:28Phil: was more effective, I thought, right?
- 22:30Brandan: Allgeier was the more effective running back.
- 22:32Yeah.
- 22:32And against the Seahawks, he's had relative success.
- 22:36you know, 22 carries, 95 yards over the course of three games.
- 22:42So, you know, even, even three games with a full workload
- 22:46we haven't seen him get 95.
- 22:49I, I think that each w- Clinton's correct.
- 22:52Like, if I'm to pick one that I'm more concerned about, I, I'm
- 22:55definitely more concerned about the big play when it comes to Love.
- 22:58Hmm.
- 22:58I'm more concerned about short yardage performance when it comes to Allgeier
- 23:01because I think he can pick up two, three yards even against, you know
- 23:06a Seahawks defense that is, very good at limiting rushing yards.
- 23:09So, in, in both of ways, they have their own, they bring their
- 23:15own, components to the game, but, what should we hold them to?
- 23:2085 yards or less.
- 23:22Phil: I like it.
- 23:22Yeah.
- 23:23Yeah, and I'm not terrified of J.K.
- 23:25Brisset.
- 23:26I mean, we're not talking about, you know- Great.
- 23:29Oh, no.
- 23:29He is, We're not talking about- Yeah… Jaden Daniels coming in here
- 23:32but you're picking him for- He's Geno
- 23:34Brandan: Smith caliber- Yeah… as far as being able to get out and move, and
- 23:37Clinton: pretty hefty He's a pretty good quarterback.
- 23:39He's pretty good.
- 23:40He's not, you know-
- 23:40Phil: I mean running, like- I'm talking about
- 23:42Brandan: running, yeah.
- 23:42Phil: Oh.
- 23:42Like Drew Lock.
- 23:43Running- I think he's like Drew Lock level, right?
- 23:45Kinda?
- 23:45No
- 23:45Brandan: Lock's
- 23:46Clinton: better, I think than- I think le- less at this point of his career.
- 23:48Yeah.
- 23:48Phil: You think Drew's faster than Brissett?
- 23:49Oh, yeah.
- 23:50Yeah, okay.
- 23:51Clinton: Yep.
- 23:51I, and I also think Drew's better on the move, throwing the ball, too.
- 23:55You know, I think if we get, if we get Brissett off platform
- 23:58we'll, we'll have our success.
- 23:59Phil: Yeah, I'd, I'd love to hold them as a team under 100, not
- 24:03just the running back, but 'cause that's, there's three guys doing
- 24:06it, and, and I think we could.
- 24:07I like Brandan's pick there.
- 24:09Brandan, you got three choices.
- 24:11Brandan: Hey, if we're talking about the hose, we gotta talk about the spray.
- 24:14Phil: Spraying the ball.
- 24:16Spraying the ball, Brandan.
- 24:18What if the hose can spray the ball to various targets?
- 24:21You already started, started us on this thought earlier in the broadcast.
- 24:25How do you expect him to be more effective than Herbert was?
- 24:30Brandan: I, it's i- infinitely, higher expectations than Herbert.
- 24:33Okay.
- 24:34Because one of the things, watching back, Phil, to that game of the Chargers against
- 24:38the Cardinals, who is Herbert throwing to?
- 24:42Phil: Yeah.
- 24:42Brandan: He's throwing to Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey.
- 24:46And I- Conkie's good, right?
- 24:47I like Ladd.
- 24:48Ladd's fine, but- That's
- 24:49Clinton: good.
- 24:49He, he's a good route- He also got hurt.
- 24:50Once he got hurt, it was like- Yeah, that kind of
- 24:51Brandan: did it… yeah, then it was, well he couldn't catch the
- 24:53ball anymore after he was hurt.
- 24:54And Quentin Johnston is not good.
- 24:56And then-… if there are other pass catchers beyond that
- 24:59it's, it's very limited.
- 25:02And so when you talk about the targets that Drew Lock
- 25:06has, I mean, he, he has JSN.
- 25:08The, the, the Chargers don't have anybody anywhere near close-
- 25:11Phil: No
- 25:12… Brandan: to that level a receiver.
- 25:13He's got, y- his A.J. Barner, his tight end.
- 25:17Like I haven't seen anybody like that, with the Chargers.
- 25:21So, those top two targets, and then you have Rashid Shaheed
- 25:25who we really didn't see- Yeah, sure… a whole lot of in week one.
- 25:30And can they get the ball to the speedy Shaheed?
- 25:33I, I, I think even if he completes three or four passes to, to Shaheed
- 25:39he's already doing, something that is gonna be more effective than
- 25:43Herbert had in their past games.
- 25:45So, and then haven't even mentioned Cooper Kupp.
- 25:47So, a very good group, and a, a better group of receivers
- 25:53than Justin Herbert has in LA.
- 25:55Phil: Could you imagine a quarterback, a backup coming in and
- 25:58really coveting or wishing for more than what Drew got to walk into with
- 26:03these kinds of targets, Clinton?
- 26:04And how do you- Yeah… expect him to be more effective than Herbert?
- 26:08Clinton: Yeah, I think, the, the offensive coordinating al- allows for
- 26:13Drew to get a, a good amount of free yards, and we saw that- Oh, yeah… sort
- 26:17of with, if that means Brady Russell out of the backfield catching two
- 26:20receptions as a fullback out of nowhere-
- 26:22Barner for some free yards, or all the motion type of things that, that
- 26:27that, like, in, JSN across the face of, face of the defense, and
- 26:31you know, everybody watching JSN, then Drew's read is to the right-hand side
- 26:35just firing a quick ball to the tight end.
- 26:37I mean, JSN had eight
- 26:37Phil: catches.
- 26:38Clinton: It wasn't like he did nothing.
- 26:38Yeah, J- Yeah.
- 26:39We know JJ has had a good day.
- 26:40He's gonna get his.
- 26:41We, we- Yeah… know this, right?
- 26:42So it's, it's trying to look a little beyond that.
- 26:44I think this comes down to Fleury making things easy, easier for Drew than
- 26:49Herbert had it, even with, McDaniels.
- 26:52So with all that, you know, the one person we haven't talked about yet
- 26:55we, we did the Russell Wilson thing.
- 26:57We, we named all the players, right?
- 26:58The one player-… we didn't name yet is we didn't name Tory Horton.
- 27:02Yeah.
- 27:02And Tory Horton being full as a participant in, in
- 27:05practice, he should be back.
- 27:07Look, I like Rashid Shaheed as a wide receiver, and I really love him as
- 27:11a special teamer and a, and a, you know, punt returner, kick returner.
- 27:15And I think Tory Horton is a, could be even a different level than
- 27:20Shaheed, and Shaheed's been good.
- 27:22He was really good as a Saint, and he was a huge part of us
- 27:24winning- Wow… last year.
- 27:25But I think Horton might be a better route runner, you know?
- 27:29And-
- 27:29Phil: How many plays, how many snaps is Horton getting in this one?
- 27:32Clinton: Well, that's…
- 27:33The, again, there's only one ball, and if we only run 48 plays
- 27:36again- 15… that's You think he's- There we go… getting 15
- 27:39Phil: Brandan?
- 27:40That'd be pretty good.
- 27:40Brandan: 15 snaps?
- 27:41Yeah.
- 27:41Clinton: I think he could get, espe- look, we ran a lot of 11 last week.
- 27:46Yeah, for sure.
- 27:46We ran a lot of 11, and Shaheed was out there for a lot of it.
- 27:48So I think he could press to maybe 20.
- 27:51I think the Seahawks really like, Tory Horton.
- 27:54And I know I do, too.
- 27:55So I'm gonna p- I'm gonna press it to 20.
- 27:56Phil was
- 27:57Brandan: surprised by my number, and then Clinton went over the top.
- 27:59Clinton: I'm going 20, and then, but also like, hey, get the running
- 28:02backs involved with the pass game.
- 28:03Yeah.
- 28:03Make it easy, and that's how the ball can get spread around quite
- 28:07a bit more, and you could ha- and avoid a Herbert-like day, 'cause
- 28:10that was no fun for the Chargers.
- 28:12Phil: And something I was hoping to prompt, Brandan
- 28:14so maybe you can touch here.
- 28:16As I was talking about more effective than Herbert, I was kind of implying that the
- 28:19Cardinals seemed to do a good job, but you're saying the only reason they did
- 28:23was because Herbert has trash for targets?
- 28:27Brandan: I think that's a big part of it.
- 28:28I, I mean- Okay… that's, watching back, it- John, Q- QJ's not good.
- 28:35Yeah.
- 28:35And I, I think- Yeah, so-… having him out on the field was a liability.
- 28:39Phil: Okay.
- 28:39Brandan: and, and I don't think it was because of good
- 28:43coverage- Yeah… by the Cardinals.
- 28:44Phil: It's kind of like the end of Hasselbeck's era and he's
- 28:46like, "Okay, where's he gonna throw?
- 28:48What do you mean nobody's getting open?"
- 28:49Like, that's 'cause they can't.
- 28:51Clinton: Yeah.
- 28:51They're, they're not open.
- 28:52And the Cardinals guys are pretty, like, Will Johnson's a high draft
- 28:55pick, and you got- Yeah… the brother of Bo Melton, Max Melton, back there
- 28:58who's, he's a pretty good cornerback.
- 28:59So, and it was, they still got Budda, hanging around center field there.
- 29:03Yeah.
- 29:03So it's not like, they're not devoid of talent.
- 29:06All those things being said, I, our wide receiver group and pass
- 29:10catchers, they're damn good, man.
- 29:12So- Yeah… cool.
- 29:13Put up anybody against us.
- 29:14Put the Texans back up against us.
- 29:16We're still gonna get ours.
- 29:17Phil: And I also think a reason that maybe, and this is in my mind
- 29:21maybe Drew can be more effective than Herbert because he's gonna have more time.
- 29:25I, I just-
- 29:27Clinton: Oh
- 29:27Phil: for sure.
- 29:28For sure I don't think they protected him well, and I, I don't
- 29:30know if it was strategy or talent, but I expe- what I watched our
- 29:33game, Drew was having decent time.
- 29:36I mean, for the amount of points we didn't score, you'd expect he was under fire the
- 29:39whole game, but he was having decent time.
- 29:41Clinton: Phil, there, there was examples where Herbert's getting sacked by two
- 29:44dudes, and that's because-… that's because, like, they got, like, three g-
- 29:48like, they're triple teaming one guy.
- 29:50It's like, what are you doing-… while other guys are running free?
- 29:52Yeah.
- 29:53Right?
- 29:53It's bad.
- 29:53So I just don't expect that with a, a, a t- a five dudes who have been
- 29:58together now for year two with Benton.
- 30:00Yeah.
- 30:01I just don't expect that from our team to be…
- 30:03They, they weren't, like, running exotic stunts.
- 30:05They were just doing the wrong things.
- 30:07Brandan: You know, our guys were just false starting and-
- 30:10… Phil: unfortunately-
- 30:11Clinton: I told you we gotta clean that up.
- 30:12That's fine.
- 30:13It's gonna get cleaned
- 30:13Phil: up… the Chargers were better before the play.
- 30:14That, that's what-
- 30:16Clinton: Yes.
- 30:16Yeah, they were better before the play.
- 30:17We were actually good at the play, which was nice.
- 30:21Phil: Okay, I think it's Clinton.
- 30:22We have air or fire.
- 30:24Clinton: You know what?
- 30:25I watched that, that Jordan movie with the sneakers.
- 30:28I f- we- I think air is in the title.
- 30:29That was a good movie.
- 30:30so air.
- 30:31Brandan: Is it the one with Matt Damon?
- 30:33Clinton: Yeah, that's good.
- 30:34It's a good, it's a good hustle, you know-… make it
- 30:37make it out of nowhere movie.
- 30:39Yeah, what was it called?
- 30:39Was it just called Air?
- 30:40I forget, but it's, it's solid.
- 30:42Phil: Everybody's afraid of the fire hose, so we'll go to air.
- 30:45Clinton, Brissett was 27 of 37 for 277 yards.
- 30:51Well over a third of it went to Mr.
- 30:53McBride, of course.
- 30:54But what if our Hawks can make he and McBride less effective?
- 30:58What are gonna be the keys of slowing down this high-flying Cardinals pass attack?
- 31:04Clinton: Yeah, so it's…
- 31:05I was, when I went back and looked at the numbers, and I'm- not the 27 of 37.
- 31:09That wasn't crazy, the, the percentage part.
- 31:13But 37 attempts in a game that you were pretty much in control o- over
- 31:17and you could have ran the ball more.
- 31:19and you already had incredible time of possession like we looked at earlier.
- 31:23The Cardinals last year, like, Brissett was throwing the ball
- 31:2640-something times a game in all these very close l- they lo- they
- 31:29lost a bunch of games close last year.
- 31:31And Brissett, and they were coming back a lot, trying to come back, and
- 31:34Brissett was routinely throwing the ball 42 times, 44 times, 40 times.
- 31:39It's no way to live.
- 31:40So I was kinda shocked he still threw the ball 37 times in a
- 31:43game that, that they controlled.
- 31:46All that being said, how do you disrupt Brissett?
- 31:49look, he to me is exactly in that time of his career, and we have
- 31:54the exact horses to do this, guys.
- 31:56You get pressure in the A, through the A gaps.
- 32:00Oh, yeah.
- 32:01You get pressure, the zero, the one.
- 32:02This is Byron Murphy, this is Leo.
- 32:05Bisontis went down, a b- their big draft pick, guard
- 32:08went down, and he's, he's out for the year, so, so- Both guys
- 32:11Phil: are on the report
- 32:12Clinton: right?
- 32:12Yeah, and Seumalo, right, if I'm saying it correctly or
- 32:15incorrectly, has a shoulder injury.
- 32:16He did not participate yesterday.
- 32:18We're recording this Thursday, you know, morning-ish, and- That's not good
- 32:21Phil: against Riley Mills to have a shoulder
- 32:22Clinton: injury, I hear… that's not good.
- 32:23I mean, you're a guard.
- 32:24You want your shoulders, because they're, that's where you're gonna…
- 32:26Besides your trunk, you're gonna get your power and hold these
- 32:29dudes off with your levers.
- 32:30You need your shoulders.
- 32:32So it's bad news bears for those guys.
- 32:34So that's the way, guys.
- 32:35And, and when you blitz, we are not foreign to the idea of running Spoon
- 32:41through the A gap, or certainly firing Drake Thomas through the A gap.
- 32:45Mm.
- 32:45If we get those things where you start to see Brissett's gotta bail and
- 32:49get flushed out, w- we won the rep.
- 32:52It m- might he convert a couple of them?
- 32:54Sure.
- 32:55He's, once he's on the run, he's gotta depend on his legs to, A
- 32:59create space, and then be accurate, he falls off dramatically.
- 33:02Yeah.
- 33:02Dramatically.
- 33:03Just like most quarterbacks do, but he falls off a cliff.
- 33:05If he's got time, could sit back there, three-step, five-step, and
- 33:08find a quick, you know, target to Michael Wilson or Trey McBride.
- 33:12He's gonna do that, 'cause he's competent.
- 33:14But we are not gonna allow him to be that.
- 33:16So I don't care about the numbers so much, but I think that's the how
- 33:20it just drives down his performance.
- 33:23Phil: Brandan Clinton picked interior pressure.
- 33:24That's probably top answer on the board.
- 33:26Now you gotta do the hard answer again.
- 33:29Yeah.
- 33:29Where, how else can we make them less effective?
- 33:31Brandan: Oh, I mean, if interior pressure is number one, edge
- 33:34pressure's gotta be number two, right?
- 33:35Because- Okay
- 33:36Phil: just pressure, pressure.
- 33:37Yeah… well
- 33:37Brandan: well, it is pressure because looking back to the Chargers game
- 33:41against the Cardinals, the Chargers, they only accumulated 12 pressures on
- 33:47the entire day, on 75 defensive snaps.
- 33:50Garbage.
- 33:51Phil: That's
- 33:51Brandan: terrible.
- 33:5112 pressures.
- 33:53And I don't think either one of you could name the top answer of who got more
- 33:57pressure, because it wasn't Khalil Mack.
- 33:59Khalil Mack was number two.
- 34:01He had two pressures the entire game.
- 34:03He's old.
- 34:03And, old man Khalil Mack.
- 34:05But, yeah, it was Tuli, Tuipulotu
- 34:09Phil: who had- That's why I couldn't name it, Brandan
- 34:10'cause I couldn't pronounce it.
- 34:11Brandan: You couldn't, you couldn't say it.
- 34:12Me either.
- 34:14But he had three pressures on the day, and we had four players.
- 34:19You had Uchenna Nwosu, Byron Murphy, Drake Thomas, and Leonard Williams
- 34:24all who had three or more pressures.
- 34:27And we actually had guys that had, you know, two, at least two pressures.
- 34:31And, neither of them were named Khalil Mack, 'cause he's not on our team.
- 34:34But, I, I think just having that pressure is, it's going to be huge.
- 34:41Having guys that can cover is gonna be huge.
- 34:44One of the, one of the funny things that I thought, listening to
- 34:47Cardinals fans is, th- this was the line that stuck out to me.
- 34:51He said, "Yeah, they, they have a great defense, but they have to deal with us."
- 35:00We, we got, we got, pass-catching talent with Trey McBride, Kendrick Bourne
- 35:05Marvin Harrison, and Michael Wilson.
- 35:07And yeah, Trey McBride's good.
- 35:09Yeah.
- 35:09I'll give you that.
- 35:10I'll give you that, the first one.
- 35:10But- Michael
- 35:11Clinton: Michael Wilson's good.
- 35:12He's good.
- 35:12Yeah, I was not saying they're
- 35:13Brandan: bad.
- 35:13He's good, but-
- 35:14Clinton: He's legit good.
- 35:15The other ones, yeah, fine
- 35:15… Brandan: Michael Wi- okay.
- 35:16Yeah.
- 35:16Michael Wilson's good.
- 35:18Are you going into this game going, "You know what?
- 35:20We gotta put two guys on Michael Wilson" Glenn?
- 35:21Clinton: No.
- 35:22You just, no, you don't, you don't have to.
- 35:23And it's, and the missing link that we haven't named yet, too, for Trey
- 35:27McBride, is that's cool, but if, but if Emmanwori plays and is healthy, he's
- 35:34very, very well-equipped to, to, you know, track down a guy like McBride
- 35:38and, and, and- He'd be perfect if
- 35:39Phil: Emmanwori's
- 35:39Clinton: there
- 35:39to, to counter how good McBride is.
- 35:42Emmanwori's-
- 35:43Brandan: You know, you know who else- Yeah… is okay, against tight ends?
- 35:47Julian Love.
- 35:48Clinton: Oh, Julian Love's the man, yeah.
- 35:49You know how I feel about that man, so.
- 35:51Brandan: Exactly.
- 35:52So- Yeah.
- 35:52That's a good man.
- 35:53That'll be a, that'll be a big man.
- 35:53and we did, you know, we, we weren't up against Trey McBride last
- 35:57week, but we did pretty well against
- 35:59Phil: you know
- 35:59Brandan: the New England tight ends.
- 36:00Clinton: Yeah, they had that one little leak out to the backup tight
- 36:02end for a touchdown, but that's okay.
- 36:03We still won the game.
- 36:04Who cares?
- 36:05Hunter Henry didn't do much.
- 36:07Phil: I do- historically, McBride is okay against us, right?
- 36:12I mean, he's great against everybody and-
- 36:14Clinton: Big numbers, big- but a lot of calories, a lot of empty calories.
- 36:17Yeah, it's a- You know, that, I was looking at the stats from the-… garbage
- 36:18time- The last game-… score… we won 44-22, I think it was November
- 36:22the 2nd game, and he had like 100 and, it was like 9 for like 127.
- 36:27Phil: Yeah.
- 36:28Clinton: We were up by like triple, you know, we were up by like three
- 36:31touchdowns at one point, and he's getting stuff between the 20s.
- 36:34And yeah, okay.
- 36:35Like, it, that's the true yards-don't-matter of a
- 36:38day, when you lose by 22.
- 36:40sure.
- 36:43Brandan: Yeah.
- 36:43I'm gonna go with air.
- 36:47Phil: Good try.
- 36:48Brandan: Air is- Now it's, now it's off the board.
- 36:50It's off the board.
- 36:51fire then.
- 36:52Fine.
- 36:52Phil: Dope.
- 36:53Everybody's afraid of Drew's fire hose on the pick straight.
- 36:55Brandan: I know.
- 36:55Well, I picked air because it was still on the board before you
- 36:58crossed it out from last time.
- 36:59Mm.
- 36:59I thought maybe I'd get
- 36:59Clinton: it back.
- 37:00Remember we talked about the Jordan movie, remember?
- 37:02Yeah.
- 37:02The whole thing.
- 37:02Phil: Sorry, we gotta go here, Brandan.
- 37:04I don't even know where- I picked
- 37:05Brandan: it before he crossed it out.
- 37:06I didn't want to go fire.
- 37:09Phil: Brandan, what if there's one thing offensively or defensively that you
- 37:13wanna see pouring out of the game plan?
- 37:15Where do you want to attack the Cards heavy and often, wide open
- 37:20you're gonna fire hose this area.
- 37:22You can go defense, you can go offense, whatever you want, Brandan.
- 37:25Brandan: Oh, I, the thing that I want to see most defensively
- 37:30is stopping that running game.
- 37:32And I- Okay… I know that we, we've kind of already talked about that, but
- 37:35if there is one thing that I wanna see stopped, it, it would be to make the
- 37:40Cardinals one-dimensional and, a- and really stop that running game because I
- 37:47I have to believe that Jacoby Brissett, yes, he had a nice game, but if he
- 37:54doesn't have that run game to rely on, it's going to be the pressure of the
- 37:59the defensive line that's gonna speed the game up for him, make him have to work.
- 38:04I, I don't think he's gonna be able to throw the ball around as easily
- 38:09as he was against the Chargers, and because that's gonna lead to turnovers.
- 38:13And, it is all about the ball, Phil.
- 38:16When the Seahawks win the turnover battle, Mike Macdonald is 11 and 0.
- 38:20Yeah.
- 38:2014 and 0 in the playoffs, and
- 38:25One more win, going to 12 and 0 in the regular season
- 38:28winning the turnover battle.
- 38:29that sounds awfully good against the Cardinals.
- 38:31Phil: Well, they'll win if they get that.
- 38:32And you're gonna get your other one.
- 38:34We're gonna shut down their run.
- 38:35I mean, they have a Dr.
- 38:36Strange one in a zillion chance of us not stopping their run, I think.
- 38:41there's like, if you look through in the multiverse, there was just like
- 38:44one time that happened, and it was just all kinds of horrible things happened.
- 38:48So, shut down the run.
- 38:51Brandan's gonna get his.
- 38:52Clinton, where would you like us to s- fire hose them offensively or defensively?
- 38:56One thing.
- 38:57We just- Mm-hmm
- 38:57the game plan needs to have this all over it.
- 39:00Clinton: Yeah, I love this.
- 39:01I think this one, for me, it's pretty simple.
- 39:02When we look at Brissett throwing the ball 37 times, I could tell you who I
- 39:06don't want throwing the ball 37 times.
- 39:09Okay.
- 39:09I don't want Drew Lock throwing the ball 37 times.
- 39:11Yeah.
- 39:11So, so, like, let's bring that down the stream a little bit.
- 39:15It's like, okay, if he throws the ball 24 times, 26 times, I'm
- 39:18feeling pretty good about that.
- 39:19So where's the ball going?
- 39:21It- we're running the football, guys.
- 39:22We're running the rock.
- 39:23I really would, really would like to see Jadarian Price used as
- 39:27an RB1, and what does that mean?
- 39:30To me, that's at least 18, you know, 18 to 22 rushing- I love that
- 39:34attempts for him.
- 39:35But as an aggregate for, you know, with, with whether it's Emmanuel
- 39:40or if it's Holani, man, I would love to see us, like, run the ball 35 times
- 39:46where, like, they just can't stop us.
- 39:48You know?
- 39:48It's like we are just get- we're converting on third and twos, and
- 39:51then on first down we're getting six.
- 39:53And in the red zone, we're like, "Oh, you know what?
- 39:55We're at the eight-yard line.
- 39:56We're gonna run it, run it again, run it one more time, and it's fourth
- 39:59and one, we're gonna run it in."
- 40:00You know, just, like, have that kind of mentality where
- 40:03it's like this is an okay team.
- 40:05They're, they're not bad, and they got s- we talked about it.
- 40:08They got, they got some players, man.
- 40:09They're okay across the line.
- 40:11They got some decent linebackers.
- 40:13But we're better.
- 40:14We're more athletic, and we're a better football team.
- 40:17So I want Fleury to unleash the running backs, keep Drew right in
- 40:21that kinda sweet pocket, and let the running backs do the work on Sunday
- 40:26'cause I think we'll end up with…
- 40:27It might not be some Bears-type game, 'cause who cares?
- 40:30We might not score 59 points, but if we ex- But they ran
- 40:32Phil: a lot, too
- 40:33… Clinton: Tha- that's true.
- 40:34Yeah.
- 40:34That's a good point.
- 40:35Yeah.
- 40:35But if we do execute that way, we will, we'll, we'll win the day, and that's
- 40:39all I care about when it gets done.
- 40:41Phil: It's funny, Clinton, I, I love where you're at, but somebody's
- 40:44ornery like me listening and saying, "Okay, he doesn't want Drew to pass
- 40:48much, but Torrey's gonna play 20 times,"
- 40:52JSN's
- 40:52Clinton: gonna get his and catch it.
- 40:52Well, but 20 snaps does not mean 20, Shaheed's still gonna
- 40:54Phil: Shaheed's still gonna get five and C- and Barner is gonna get five
- 40:57… Clinton: Well, I, well, I, that's funny, like, back to that point earlier
- 41:00when you asked it, it's like, okay, it's cool to talk about where the ball might
- 41:03spray around, but I won't be shocked if it's like, oh, we look at a line that
- 41:07goes JSN nine and the next dude has three.
- 41:11Phil: Yeah.
- 41:12That one don't- Because we ran 12 all day, and we just-… won't shock
- 41:14Clinton: me.
- 41:14Phil: Yeah, ran 12 all day and just ran the ball, and threw it to JSN
- 41:18to keep the, keep the chains moving.
- 41:20'Cause he- But you can run the ball a lot and still get a lot of completions-
- 41:23Correct… 'cause they kinda go together.
- 41:24Your completion percentage goes up, you have the ball more- Yeah
- 41:28your total- Yeah, you're extending
- 41:28Brandan: drives.
- 41:29Clinton: Yeah… got, got one, one stat before we, we hit the rest of it.
- 41:32I gotta just find it real quick.
- 41:33It was e- it was either eight for eight or nine for nine.
- 41:35I think it's eight for eight, but let's call it eight for eight.
- 41:38Drew, talk about, you know, running so that you set things up.
- 41:40Drew Lock in play action last week was, I think it's eight for eight, eight for
- 41:44eight for 110 yards and a touchdown.
- 41:47Phil: I know we were number one DVOA on- Cool… play action.
- 41:50Yeah.
- 41:50Clinton: Comes directly out of also running the football well, and then
- 41:53eight for eight on play action?
- 41:55Awesome, and a lot of it being free, open, easy reads, and Drew
- 42:01did a great job with that stuff.
- 42:02Phil: And no pressure.
- 42:03That's what I love about play action.
- 42:04The quarterback can just look and not be so concerned about the, the pressure.
- 42:09Clinton: Look at that
- 42:09Phil: well.
- 42:09Well, what's-
- 42:09Clinton: Look at that well.
- 42:10It's full.
- 42:11It's brimming.
- 42:12Phil: Yes, the w- the Flocker wishing well is packed.
- 42:14Did you guys stop in and throw something in when you were at the game?
- 42:16Did you bring the group over?
- 42:18That's nice.
- 42:18Clinton: Oh, you know what?
- 42:18We circled and circled, and then we went inside.
- 42:21Phil: Okay.
- 42:21So you didn't stop off at the Little Flock of Wishing Well.
- 42:24Clinton: Yeah, like I said, it's a Harry Potter thing.
- 42:25We think you have to walk through a brick wall.
- 42:27We're not, we're not…
- 42:28We'll see it next time, I'm
- 42:29Phil: sure.
- 42:29Yeah, okay, next time.
- 42:30I wanna go there for sure.
- 42:32We did get a lot of wishes, and so I've gotta go fast.
- 42:35This almost- this may be late to the recording, there were so many
- 42:37wishes, but we're glad about that.
- 42:39How do they get in to be able to toss these into the Wishing Well?
- 42:42How can they find this mysterious place, Brandan?
- 42:44Brandan: Yeah, getintheflock.com
- 42:47or you can hit the join button out on YouTube, become a member of the
- 42:51flock, and you get into our Discord.
- 42:53We have a Discord channel just for the Wishing Well, the, the What If
- 42:59Preview Show channel, and, that's where you go to leave your wishes.
- 43:03Clinton: So fun.
- 43:04Phil: Okay, so let me see if I can speed read these.
- 43:06KNTS TP, "What if we come out of State Farm Stadium with no injuries?"
- 43:10I like that.
- 43:11King Trails, "Price over 55 yards and a touchdown, and yeah, please don't let
- 43:15another dynasty die in Glendale, Arizona."
- 43:18Mm.
- 43:18Hey, that's not even…
- 43:18Let's not even go there.
- 43:1912 Fan Records, "Shaheed takes a punt return to the house."
- 43:23I like it.
- 43:24Dehooman, Josh, he says, "Elijah Arroyo and the other tight ends are
- 43:28more involved in the passing game.
- 43:30We get a tight end touchdown.
- 43:31Seahawks defense holds McBride to under 100 yards and no touchdown."
- 43:35I love that, I love that a good game against McBride is
- 43:38let's keep him under a hundy.
- 43:39Yeah.
- 43:39Like, that's, that's where this guy's…
- 43:41He's like the whole team.
- 43:42They're the Arizona McBrides pretty much.
- 43:45Brandan: Mm-hmm.
- 43:45Phil: Lisa, "Zero pre-snap penalties," yes.
- 43:48Right.
- 43:48I'm with you, Lisa, and two rushing touchdowns.
- 43:51We like that as well.
- 43:53PS1, "Minimize the penalties, Price unleashed, another pick for Job
- 43:58and oh no, you broke the three no more than three wishes rule.
- 44:02PS," but maybe you're new at this.
- 44:04Clinton: Maybe.
- 44:04" Phil: I wanna give him his wish.
- 44:05Leo gets to body surf over a hapless bird."
- 44:08I wouldn't mind seeing that even if- That's kind of
- 44:09cool… it's an illegal wish.
- 44:10Clinton: It's cute.
- 44:12Phil: Living the good life.
- 44:12Bracket McBride with the Eman pressure, the, Catfish out of Brissett.
- 44:18Then we have, well, I'm assuming it didn't really seem like his
- 44:22injury was a big deal for…
- 44:23Oh, that's, Eman is back.
- 44:24They're responding Eman is back in our Discord.
- 44:27Sure.
- 44:27Gamer Hog, "Byron Murphy has a national come out game and gets
- 44:31four sacks and a constant disruptive
- 44:34force."
- 44:34Brandan: Careful, that's spicy, Phil.
- 44:36I like that one.
- 44:36Four
- 44:36Brandan: sacks.
- 44:37Phil: Yeah, that's- Four.
- 44:38That goes with your first hope there, Clinton, just that interior pressure.
- 44:41Except
- 44:41Brandan: the, the only problem is this won't be a national game.
- 44:43Yeah, that's, that's very true.
- 44:47Phil: Very, yeah, someone'll notice if he gets four sacks.
- 44:50That's true.
- 44:50Living, Living the Good Life came back with some info, but we'll keep going.
- 44:53Car Car, "This is a hard one."
- 44:56Bunny, "What if super hawkra, we take the Arizona tortilla
- 45:01wraps and just cook them?"
- 45:02I kinda like that.
- 45:03They're wearing their tortilla wraps.
- 45:04Mm-hmm.
- 45:04Let's just…
- 45:05How about all the sack celebrations are chowing down on a burrito?
- 45:09Wouldn't that be all right?
- 45:09Yeah, just
- 45:09Clinton: flip it, flipping the burritos.
- 45:10Yeah.
- 45:10A little, little, little touch of heat, that's all.
- 45:12Phil: Car Car, "Darnold rests up so he's back sooner than expected."
- 45:16I like that.
- 45:17Got Zero Hawk, "Drew Lock, zero interceptions, running backs combine
- 45:21for 150 yards from scrimmage."
- 45:23Mm.
- 45:23Yeah, mm-hmm.
- 45:24"More Shaheed returns."
- 45:25Yeah, how about just return it, Shaheed, and then we'll let things happen.
- 45:28We'll see what, we'll see what your magic does when you decide to not fair catch it.
- 45:31Brandan: Yeah.
- 45:31I guess those first four returns were, like, his pre-season.
- 45:35Phil: Okay, yeah.
- 45:36Brandan: Feels right.
- 45:37Phil: That, that, he's trying to get his coordinator fired.
- 45:39or he doesn't want him to get promoted and stolen, so maybe that was what it was.
- 45:43Maybe.
- 45:43Nate Shoots, "We control the game on the ground, and we win comfortably.
- 45:48Also, Price outrushes Love doubly."
- 45:52And then I have one down here I'm having a hard time reading.
- 45:54Can you read that one for me, Clinton?
- 45:56Clinton: Oh, I can't from here.
- 45:57I gotta put my
- 45:58Brandan: peepers on.
- 45:58Brandan?
- 45:58Hold That Fish, "Defensive wish, a minimum three sacks and one interception
- 46:02while holding the Cardinals to under three and a half yards per rush."
- 46:07Nice.
- 46:07"Offensive, no big mistakes by Lock.
- 46:09We get better pre-snap and 120-plus yards rushing."
- 46:13Is- those, is, technically fit six wishes into two wishes.
- 46:16Phil: Okay.
- 46:17Is three sacks, is that a worthy wish?
- 46:20I mean, that's averaging 51 a season.
- 46:25Clinton: I don't know, you got one, one person with four sacks from
- 46:27Byron-… and one with three for the whole team, so you know, I, I don't know.
- 46:30Brandan: Minimum three sacks.
- 46:31Clinton: Minimum three sacks, there
- 46:32Phil: we go.
- 46:32Oh, for us.
- 46:33Okay, I mis- Yeah… that's what I was misreading.
- 46:34I couldn't follow.
- 46:35Okay, great.
- 46:36Rising Hawkra, "The Seahawks win," I'll take that.
- 46:38Gambling Goat, "We show that the Cardinals are still the
- 46:41Cardinals by dominating them."
- 46:44I think that's a fair wish, and that's probably gonna come true in- Mm-hmm
- 46:47to some degree.
- 46:48So we get to our gentlemen's wishes.
- 46:51Last week, Brandan wished for Knight to get four tackles.
- 46:57Brandan: He got snaps.
- 46:59Phil: Yeah.
- 47:00He was out there.
- 47:01Clinton, Clinton wished for Kupp for 40 yards and a touchdown, which is- Pretty
- 47:06Clinton: close.
- 47:07Pretty
- 47:07Phil: close… but that's, we had something that brought that back, right?
- 47:10Clinton: Yeah, exactly.
- 47:11Yeah.
- 47:11He had it and then we- Another pre-snap
- 47:12Brandan: penalty.
- 47:12Phil: Another penalty.
- 47:13Or
- 47:14Brandan: maybe it wasn't pre-snap.
- 47:15Phil: It might have been post-snap.
- 47:16Brandan: Like emotion.
- 47:16Clinton: He would've been right around that if we didn't had
- 47:18that penalty, just saying.
- 47:18Was
- 47:19Phil: that one, like, emotion or something?
- 47:20Clinton: Well, him and Holani were emotion same time, barely.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:23And that's true, you can't do it, but-
- 47:25Phil: It's not allowed… he was loud.
- 47:25Not allowed.
- 47:27So.
- 47:27Clinton: It's not Canadian football, so.
- 47:29Phil: Clinton, your wish first this time.
- 47:32Clinton: Yeah, I, I am of two minds, man.
- 47:34Like these are the two themes I've had the entire time.
- 47:36I will go with the, the more joy- I don't know, they're both joyful.
- 47:40God, I like defense, too.
- 47:41Jadarian Price with 105 plus yards on the ground- Wow… and a touchdown.
- 47:49A big day for our rookies.
- 47:50Triple digits.
- 47:51Yeah, big day.
- 47:52105 and a tuddy.
- 47:54Brandan: I think you could've gone lower on that and I would've accepted it.
- 47:56I'd, I'd accept- It's fine… 80, but, you're locked
- 47:58Clinton: in
- 47:58Brandan: for
- 47:59Clinton: 105 now.
- 47:59No biscuit.
- 48:00No biscuit
- 48:00Phil: no biscuit.
- 48:00No risky, no biscuit.
- 48:01It's really tough to get triple digits in the run game
- 48:02these days, but that's a wish.
- 48:04It's a What If Superhawk.
- 48:05To be super, triple digits it is.
- 48:07Clinton: Yes.
- 48:08Brandan: Well, one thing that would be super, Phil, is if Anthony
- 48:11Bradford had zero sacks, zero quarterback hits because Dante
- 48:18Stills, that's one name that we…
- 48:20Well, I think Clinton was naming dudes and brought up Dante Stills.
- 48:22But, he led the team in pressures for the Cardinals
- 48:27last week against the Chargers.
- 48:29Had four total pressures.
- 48:30He had one quarterback sack that was a quarterback sack on fourth down.
- 48:35That was the one, when they were going for it right before the end of the half.
- 48:38So, we, we do see Stills, though, if you go back to that game, he's
- 48:43not exclusively lined up on Bradford.
- 48:45In fact, he, the, he was outside on the edge a little bit.
- 48:48They like to move him around.
- 48:49in the first half it seemed like they were lining him up over the right
- 48:53guard, and then in the second half I, I saw him, pa- pass rushing
- 48:58more from the, left guard spot.
- 49:00But I think the area that they're gonna wanna target is going to
- 49:04be Anthony Bradford, and, we see a solid game from him.
- 49:08He holds up, no sacks, no quarterback hits.
- 49:11He might, he might give up a pressure or two, but-
- 49:14Phil: No, no hits.
- 49:15Oh, I put pressures.
- 49:15Okay.
- 49:16Yeah.
- 49:16So interior pressure's really bad for our deal.
- 49:19Hopefully Drew Lock isn't a goober like Justin and take a sack on fourth down
- 49:22which is the dumbest thing you can do.
- 49:24Mm-hmm.
- 49:24So, never take a sack on fourth down.
- 49:28All right.
- 49:29I like it.
- 49:29I would like to not get
- 49:30Brandan: blown.
- 49:30He didn't have much choice, though.
- 49:32The dude had, like, a free rush right at him on fourth down.
- 49:35Clinton: D- do you see the scoreboard, Brandan?
- 49:36Do you see it?
- 49:37Do you see it?
- 49:38Brandan: Yeah.
- 49:38Phil: This is Clinton's moment with the lead.
- 49:40Clinton: Does week one live?
- 49:41Brandan: Yeah.
- 49:42C- congrats on your, picking a, a closer game than me.
- 49:46Clinton: Yes.
- 49:47Phil: Yeah.
- 49:47Yes.
- 49:47He chose to make it a less gap, so that's how he got…
- 49:51And we were even giving him a hard time about it.
- 49:52It turned out granting him the win, so- Mm-hmm… you know.
- 49:56Brandan: I knew I was smoked as soon as, as Sam went down.
- 49:59Clinton: Yeah.
- 50:00Phil: Yeah, I was like, "Oh, Clinton won."
- 50:01Clinton: Kind of, yeah, kind of put that in a box.
- 50:03I agree.
- 50:04Phil: Okay.
- 50:05So Clinton has to pick first this week, though.
- 50:07Clinton: Okay.
- 50:07Phil: So what do you got for the score?
- 50:07Got it.
- 50:08Clinton: Got my score.
- 50:09Seahawks 20, Cardinals 16.
- 50:12By the way, Vegas says this, this is a four and a half
- 50:15point Seahawk, victory.
- 50:16Okay.
- 50:17So right there, 20 to 16.
- 50:19Closer than we want it to be, but we get out of the desert with the big W.
- 50:24Phil: 20 to 16 with our backup quarterback, who's kind
- 50:26of like their backup quarterback.
- 50:28but that's their starter.
- 50:30Mm-hmm.
- 50:30Brandan, 20 to 16, what's your pick?
- 50:33Brandan: Oh, I'm so happy you went with a four-point spread, because I
- 50:35am going with a three-point spread.
- 50:38I, I had already had it planned, too.
- 50:40But, 21-18 Seahawks get the dub, and, it's really only 18
- 50:46because they go for seven and get a two-point conversion at the end of
- 50:50the game to, to bring it up to 18.
- 50:51To
- 50:51Clinton: try to get to three.
- 50:52I like it.
- 50:52Brandan: Or, or-
- 50:53Clinton: I like it.
- 50:53If
- 50:53Brandan: that happens- Yeah, they go for, they get six and then get two.
- 50:55Yeah.
- 50:55Clinton: Yeah.
- 50:56Phil: Yeah.
- 50:56If that happens, I'll tip my cap.
- 50:57You got kind of a close game, but really we're up two scores, and they
- 50:59get one that it's not gonna- It doesn't happen very often, yeah… they gotta
- 51:01go for a onside kick at that point.
- 51:03Yeah.
- 51:03Like it.
- 51:05I, I feel that it's somewhere in that range.
- 51:07I, I think there's a world where we really shut them down.
- 51:10There's definitely a world where, where that happens.
- 51:12But, this is probably the wisest choices.
- 51:15Yeah.
- 51:15One score games.
- 51:15The
- 51:15Brandan: Cardinals cover.
- 51:16Congrats.
- 51:18Yeah.
- 51:19Phil: They, they can celebrate going into week three.
- 51:21Brandan: Yeah, we covered.
- 51:22Phil: We did it.
- 51:23We did it.
- 51:23Another upset.
- 51:24Yeah.
- 51:27That team with, you know, they had to deal with us.
- 51:29They had to come deal with us in here.
- 51:31Brandan: Yeah.
- 51:32Phil: All right, anything we missed you were hoping that I'd ask about
- 51:34that we didn't, that we didn't get to talk to you about, about the game?
- 51:37Any players on the cards that our fans need to know about?
- 51:40Brandan: I was, I was hoping that Clinton was gonna go with Jadarian
- 51:43Press- J- Jadarian Price just more rushing yards than Love, but, That's
- 51:47nice… I feel like with 105, then that's, that's pretty easily- That's a
- 51:50Phil: given… that that's gonna happen.
- 51:50Since nobody runs for 100 against us.
- 51:52Clinton: Yeah.
- 51:52Well, this is, this is about us.
- 51:54We, we don't care about what they do, right?
- 51:56So, no, that, that's a cool thing.
- 51:58No, I think we nailed it, man.
- 51:59I think there's…
- 51:59Again, I think in years past, the Cardinals are a laughing stock, and
- 52:04then the NFC West meme and the whole thing, the, the, you know, Ghidorah
- 52:07from Godzilla meme, and they might
- 52:10Brandan: be- Oh, did you notice- They might be better
- 52:11did you notice in the Discord somebody posted that, Jacoby
- 52:14Brissett's Wikipedia photo-
- 52:17Clinton: Yeah.
- 52:17It's
- 52:17Brandan: him playing
- 52:18Clinton: baseball… is him holding a baseball bat.
- 52:19Yeah.
- 52:19I did.
- 52:20I did.
- 52:21It's him playing baseball or softball.
- 52:22I think- 'Cause
- 52:23Brandan: the Cardinals are, just, like when you Google Cardinals
- 52:25Yeah… Cardinals schedule, it brings up the baseball schedule.
- 52:28Clinton: Yeah.
- 52:28They're always gonna be- That's-… second fiddle even in the sport they
- 52:31play, so, you know, they wanna wear their rivalry jerseys, and that's- And
- 52:36Phil: eat some tortillas
- 52:37… Clinton: that's cute.
- 52:38Now, what, what can we say?
- 52:39Like, that, that's cute.
- 52:40You wanna think they're- It's nice that we got
- 52:41Phil: chosen.
- 52:41We're their rivals.
- 52:42Clinton: Exactly.
- 52:43But that's cool.
- 52:43If we're your biggest rivals, then, well I guess, I guess we'll
- 52:46we'll tip our cap and say sure.
- 52:47We'll…
- 52:47and we'll treat you as such when we get out of there with a, with a W, boys.
- 52:51Phil: Yeah.
- 52:52Brandan: And I think with that
- 52:53Clinton: there's only one thing left to say.
- 52:54Phil: Go Hawks.
- 52:55Go Hawks.
- 52:56Go eat some tortillas.
- 52:57Clinton: Go Hawks.
