- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the Aspy world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19So is world Autism Awareness Week, acceptance week,
- 0:22Understanding we will Autism week.
- 0:24All right, let's go into it guys.
- 0:26What is going on? Welcome back to the Aspy world.
- 0:29Where do I start? OK, this video is kind of like
- 0:31one of those long and edited. This is my mind.
- 0:34This is what I'm thinking about kind of videos, right?
- 0:36And, and I thought a lot about this because it's it's April,
- 0:40first week of April 2024, which means it's world autism
- 0:42acceptance week, right? Even that right, Acceptance
- 0:45week, like you speak world Autism Awareness Week.
- 0:47And I and I get it. People say like, oh, you know,
- 0:49everybody's aware of autism now, but they don't always accept it.
- 0:51I'm like, OK, well, if people don't accept autism, that's
- 0:53their beef, That's their issue. What you're really interested is
- 0:55to get getting people educated on it, right?
- 0:57And I really, it gets to me, OK, because all I see like literally
- 1:02all I see is hundreds and hundreds of self-proclaimed
- 1:05influences. Like I know I'm an influencer,
- 1:07right? OK, so I have YouTube channel
- 1:08and this is my job. And like I do all these things
- 1:10for, for autism awareness. Like I love helping and, and
- 1:13gaining understanding global scale of autism and the
- 1:16intricacies of those. You know, that's my job as my
- 1:18due diligence. It's my, my, my mission in life
- 1:21is to help you as autistic people's autistic community,
- 1:24right? But I see people within the
- 1:26community bitching, moaning, complaining, negative, like it's
- 1:29unbelievable. Like you see people like this is
- 1:31what you should say on what doesn't want this week.
- 1:33It's acceptance week and this is what you need to do.
- 1:36It's a what do they call it? Oh, it's it's people with who
- 1:41have autism, not, not with autism or have autism.
- 1:44It's an autistic person and always kind of first person
- 1:45language when we start dictating to people like you should be
- 1:50doing this or you shouldn't be doing that.
- 1:51What we actually are doing is we're being very narcissistic or
- 1:54we're being kind of like, I don't know, people say, oh,
- 1:56well, narcissism could be potentially autism, but it's
- 1:58coming across as narcissism. No, no, no, there's a, there's a
- 2:00massive difference between narcissism and autism.
- 2:02And, and some of those differences are like an autistic
- 2:04person will do the things and be knowing that they're behaving
- 2:07those ways, but a narcissist will do things in a way to
- 2:09control the situation, to implement their ideas across the
- 2:11board. Right.
- 2:12And that to me is, is the definition of what's going on
- 2:15here. We have the so-called
- 2:16influences, which are people who just want, they just got a
- 2:19really big voice, right? And they just shout on the
- 2:21loudest. It doesn't mean that they're
- 2:22better at any anything than anybody else.
- 2:24And also they're changing the narrative.
- 2:25I've seen a lot of this kind of weird like dangerous stuff where
- 2:29they're like, oh, we're going to call it autism anymore and
- 2:30autism or disability and you can't call it.
- 2:33I got dry skin on my nose, guys. I could just, I could see it in
- 2:35the corner of my eye and it's like, Bah, anyway, if you can
- 2:38see the dry skin, I'm sorry. I've been doing a lot of facial
- 2:40treatment and stuff anyway, just to make sure my skin stays fresh
- 2:42and healthy. You go say care yourself, yo,
- 2:44take care of yourself. But you know what I mean?
- 2:46Like they're changing the narrative.
- 2:48They're like, you can't say autism's disability.
- 2:50Well, it is a disability. You know, it's debilitating.
- 2:53It debilitates people daily. You know, sometimes my life has
- 2:56been so difficult with autism. I sometimes think that if I run
- 3:02alive or if I wasn't here, then things would be easier, right?
- 3:04And it's difficult to talk about, difficult to say,
- 3:06difficult to admit, but it happens, right?
- 3:09But it's something that is apparent.
- 3:11It's it's apparent because, you know, autistic people don't just
- 3:17think it's a breeze kind of like on the same, you know, which one
- 3:20is it? You know, like people, people
- 3:21are like also not of disability. And then they say autism, not a
- 3:24superpower. It's like, OK, well, it's not a
- 3:26superpower, but it could be, you know, there's certain parts of
- 3:29it that are super superpower superistic, like, you know, my
- 3:32ability to digest information and retain that information and
- 3:35recall it later date, you know, long massive pieces of
- 3:38information. Like that's kind of like, you
- 3:39know, the power that not neotypical people could have.
- 3:42But I don't think autism in general is a superpower.
- 3:44I don't think there's anything super about having those
- 3:46neurological difficulties, right, and disabling
- 3:49disabilities. But there are profound
- 3:51differences, right? You have people on the autism
- 3:53spectrum who, who can't, you know, verbally speak, who can't,
- 3:57you know, change themselves, can't use the bathroom on their
- 3:59own, you know, and loads of people like this.
- 4:01And, and me as an autistic person, I get kind of like
- 4:04impostor syndrome about this quite a bit thinking like, oh,
- 4:07you know, I've got a diagnosis that's similar to this other
- 4:10person and, you know, they have way higher support needs than
- 4:12me. And, and that's OK.
- 4:14Like it's OK to feel like that. And it's OK to feel kind of
- 4:16like, oh man, but I still have my own issues, right?
- 4:18And not on the scale of this person does, but I do have my
- 4:20own issues. And actually my scale of other
- 4:21issues could be greater than that, right?
- 4:25And that's OK. But we should never forget those
- 4:27people. Those people are artistic
- 4:28people. That's exactly why I started
- 4:29this channel. A voice of people who don't have
- 4:31a voice, right? Making autism less lonely.
- 4:34My entire brand now is, is about making autism less lonely.
- 4:37That's, that's what I'm trying to do.
- 4:39Because there's so many lonely people on the autumn spectrum.
- 4:41We're going to get even more lonely if we start segregating
- 4:43each other. Because people say don't support
- 4:45Autism Speaks, right? Don't light up blue.
- 4:47Don't let it create a light of gold and red instead.
- 4:49And Oh my God, oh, it's a colour, right?
- 4:53It's a colour. Nobody cares, right?
- 4:54What are you do? What are you physically doing to
- 4:56help, right? Going online and telling a mum
- 4:59who's spent the last three years as part of her local Autism
- 5:02Speaks group, right? And raised over $1000 for their
- 5:06local autism club to buy iPads for the kids who were
- 5:09underprivileged and didn't have access to iPads.
- 5:11But now they can. And now they have a voice.
- 5:13Don't come at me, don't come at anybody.
- 5:16Tell them that they're wrong for support on Autism Speaks in that
- 5:19manner, You know what I mean? Like, that's just stupid.
- 5:21Like, you know, Autism Speaks have a shady past.
- 5:25Yes. And they have shady history and
- 5:26they've got all this kind of weird stuff going on and we're
- 5:27going to get to them. Not in this video.
- 5:29I'm going to do a video all about it.
- 5:31And and I'm no way in shape or form saying that I'm an Autism
- 5:34Speaks supporter right now. Like, I'm not saying that.
- 5:36I'm just saying that like you can't just target, you know,
- 5:39mums of autistic kids. And that's another thing people
- 5:42use this day to bash other autistic people.
- 5:44Like, oh, you know, you can't use the term Aspergers and oh,
- 5:47no, your information is is toxic or poisonous.
- 5:50No, dudes like it. This is one.
- 5:53This is why I didn't put information out on world awesome
- 5:56one estate. What I did instead is this
- 5:57video, which I'll try and kind of put a snippet in here.
- 6:00I put it on Instagram or TikTok, Facebook and and YouTube just
- 6:04saying like, hey, it's world awesome acceptance day or
- 6:06whatever, a world autism day, you know, rather than me tell
- 6:09you about autism, ask me questions.
- 6:11How can I help you? How can I serve you, you guys
- 6:13and my audience, you guys, you know, this is my community, this
- 6:15is my tribe. Like I want to hang out with you
- 6:18guys, you know, and like the, the, this is my artistic empire,
- 6:20you know, like I'm big up to the artistic empire, you know, like,
- 6:24and it annoys me because changing narratives like saying
- 6:27that like, you know, like you can't say with autism or how's
- 6:31autism or you have to use an autistic person.
- 6:33You don't have to do shit. You can do whatever you feel is
- 6:36right. You're an autistic person.
- 6:37You have your own right, your own initiative, your own, you
- 6:39know, we live in a society where we're allowed to call people
- 6:42plural, where I'd say they and them, right for a single person.
- 6:45And that's fine. I don't care.
- 6:46You can use those pronouns because that's you.
- 6:49And I think it's great that you have the ability to do that,
- 6:52just as I have the ability to use the term aspy or aspirin is
- 6:55or whatever. It doesn't define you as a
- 6:57person. Your actions towards the group
- 6:59define you as a person. And this, this is what this is
- 7:01what I'm talking about. Like let's stop being
- 7:04narcissistic, let's stop being negative, Let's stop going
- 7:07against the grain. Why don't we encourage the
- 7:09communities to come together? Why don't we do something as a
- 7:11group? What are you doing to encourage
- 7:14the betterment of the group? Every single piece of my
- 7:17business, when we make a decision, when me and my team
- 7:19sit down and make a decision and we think, is this going to
- 7:21better the group as a whole? If the answer is no, then we're
- 7:24not going to do it. Is, you know, is a video
- 7:27bitching about autism mums giving them a back on slap
- 7:30because they're learning in this journey, in this process and
- 7:33they're doing the best for their kid.
- 7:35You know, is it right to bash them?
- 7:37Well, no, course it's not. Is that going to best for the
- 7:39group? No, it's actually going to
- 7:40segregate the group or it's going to make those mums scared
- 7:43of reaching out for help. Do you think you're going to
- 7:45meet someone head on with negativity and they're going to
- 7:47be like, oh, great, thank you so much for that.
- 7:48It's amazing. I think you're just so cool.
- 7:51No, it's BSI. My nose is really itchy now
- 7:55because of this Tri skid. I called windows do my head and
- 8:00but guys, the the biggest the biggest take away from me from
- 8:04all this is that like the stop dictating what you should be
- 8:09doing with your life on the autism spectrum, right?
- 8:12We're here to help and advocate. If you're an autistic influencer
- 8:14watching this, then come with me on this journey of, of helping
- 8:17and accepting and, and, and learning together with the
- 8:21greater community of stop segregating out or stop saying
- 8:24that somebody can't do this or somebody can't do that and you
- 8:26need to do this and you just lay a green or red, whatever gold or
- 8:29whatever. It's like those things don't
- 8:30matter, right? That doesn't matter.
- 8:32What actions, what steps are you taking to improve the condition
- 8:34of the group? That's what matters.
- 8:36How are we pushing ourselves forward, urging ourselves
- 8:38towards an existent that's full of potential of joy, laughter,
- 8:42help support equality. That's, that's the difference.
- 8:46You know, I set up a, a company with a guy called authentic and
- 8:50we're making accessible tools for Google Chrome, which will be
- 8:53apps soon as well, which are kind of helping people
- 8:55understand emotions. Like you could highlight over
- 8:57somebody's face and be like, what emotions is this person
- 9:00having? Or you could, you could do in
- 9:02real time over zoom and be like, you know, is this person happy?
- 9:04I said, and it'll tell you, you know, that improves the quality
- 9:06of the group, that improves our, our existence towards a most
- 9:10successful interaction, because what we're trying to do with
- 9:12autistic people is decode the world around us to make it more
- 9:16accessible, right? That's what we're doing with
- 9:18everything, the technology, the videos, the understanding, the
- 9:20books, everything is to make autism, the world for autism
- 9:23more accessible. And, and if you're not doing
- 9:26that, then what are you? What are you doing right?
- 9:28Offering support is great because it helps make access to
- 9:31the world. When you get somebody grounded
- 9:33to a level where they can understand things, you're
- 9:35creating access, you're creating a level of support, but just
- 9:38gnawing and bitching and moaning and complaining and being
- 9:40negative and you know, this person's bad because you have 10
- 9:44autistic influencers who are just fake or telling us what are
- 9:47you talking about? You know what I mean?
- 9:48Like, that's just, no, that's not why I started it.
- 9:52I'm like the first autistic influencer, right?
- 9:54Nobody was doing this to YouTube for me and that's not why I
- 9:58started it. I didn't start to bitch about
- 9:59anybody. I encouraged everyone to go on
- 10:01the platform. I encouraged people to reach out
- 10:02to me. It's like I want to make me do
- 10:04it you know lol you know Connor Ward, Thomas Henley, Spectrum
- 10:11girl, Paige Lyall, Matt Recklebum, Bloats, fathering
- 10:16with autism. All these people I know all
- 10:17these people, they're all good people, they're decent people.
- 10:19Tailor Heaton, the mum on the spectrum, you know, great decent
- 10:22people who are just trying to do their best with autism.
- 10:25And that's how we do it. We come together as a community,
- 10:28as a group, we stop bitching, we stop complaining and we move
- 10:30forward. That is our message for autism.
- 10:33Where this day. Lucky guys, I love you.
- 10:35See you in the next video. Hey guys, thank you so much for
