- 0:42Hamster with a blunt penknife the Doctor Who commentary
- 0:45podcast. Hello, hello, hello?
- 0:50How are you? I'm very well.
- 0:51Yes, you've been a nice day. Yes, that's marvelous.
- 0:55That's good. What feel like someone just
- 0:57dropped in on a casual conversation video and I'm here
- 1:01today with mr. Mike Rawlings from to watch who
- 1:05a doctor who podcast another commentary for girls.
- 1:09Your research you? Yes.
- 1:11Tell you what. Our opinions are fabulous.
- 1:13Hang on a minute. What does she think of?
- 1:14Well, first of all, we're here today to talk about the Android
- 1:18Invasion. And if you're having Deja Vu,
- 1:21like to duplicate doctors and Sarah's, then you might be right
- 1:26because we have recorded this one before we get to mention
- 1:29that. Yeah well I was imagining.
- 1:30Yeah. Because I've got a question for
- 1:32you. Yeah.
- 1:33Well do to your rather audacious use of pauses and lack of hang
- 1:37on a slack of commentary. Hold on a minute.
- 1:40It will first story straight everybody why we are doing this
- 1:43again, okay? So when we did the Android
- 1:45Invasion, first time around, it was very early on, like how many
- 1:49first time we met? Yes.
- 1:50And I was like, we talked in terms of hamster, you had done
- 1:54very many areas very early on. It was a combo worried because I
- 2:00was, I was on the prowl for life for football contributors.
- 2:09Thing. Yes.
- 2:10And you know, and I had to favorite podcasts.
- 2:15Right? Yeah.
- 2:15Flight for entirety. And to watch who mows my to
- 2:19that? I absolutely would listen to the
- 2:21second. I came out right.
- 2:22Anyway so I was going to solve scarin or social media.
- 2:25Anyway, I found your Instagram handle, I was like oh my God
- 2:29this guy is super hot. Jesus Christ, I'm gettin in one
- 2:32hand to her blood penknife and there we were.
- 2:34So this was a commentary podcast so I thought the idea was Was
- 2:39that you watched the episode and listen to these episodes?
- 2:44These audio episodes are long as as like a DVD commentary.
- 2:48You know like a commentary podcast anybody there for well
- 2:51yesterday? Well, I thought people did and I
- 2:53thought that was the whole concept.
- 2:55I was like, I mean that's I think I might have like once but
- 2:59I don't, yeah, I don't think people do the most basic version
- 3:03of someone doing that. To were you should that's what
- 3:10it's designed for. It was designed for this what
- 3:12I'm saying? So I thought if there were
- 3:14pauses, we were watching the action with the listener.
- 3:17And so, it didn't matter. And now it sort of evolved into
- 3:20more of a, it happens to be on in the background and it doesn't
- 3:26matter. So, but I didn't realize that,
- 3:29by the time, we recorded that it had already started evolving in
- 3:31that way, like it, the concept of gone out the window.
- 3:35Either quite early on with Jack would Joe lead star.
- 3:38Yeah. If people like that and you
- 3:40know, they talked a lot, so that's why we were watching on
- 3:43and also the internet connection wasn't great.
- 3:45Yeah. It was a bit of a pause between
- 3:47that's why I was a bit dodgy. So it was first time I see you
- 3:51on the screen. I was because I was a little bit
- 3:53for which, so I was lost for words as well.
- 3:55So anyway, don't go back and listen to that water.
- 3:57I'm gonna basically instead remark not saying a lot and
- 4:00watching and watching what is evolved into now is essentially
- 4:04sort of mates with dr. Hall in the background I think I
- 4:09shot about it with trivia and personal stories and
- 4:12Recollections and things like that.
- 4:13Exactly, fun of less. If you if you do want to listen
- 4:16along as well get your DVD ready.
- 4:18Yeah. And just to say we have many,
- 4:21many Recollections about this particular story now because
- 4:25before we even go in we need to mention that we visited the
- 4:29location of the Android invasion in didcot.
- 4:33Yes. I'm think many a fan makes a
- 4:36little pilgrimage there to the Android Invasion Village.
- 4:39And we did do that without in Nicholas Briggs.
- 4:41Then also, you ask me which story did I want to do that
- 4:44time? Yeah.
- 4:45And I chose, I chose this one because it's one of my favorites
- 4:48and I think you're quite surprised.
- 4:49I chose Android invasion is not up there.
- 4:52Really, is it? No, it's a favorites.
- 4:54It's always in this, in the Hinchcliffe time.
- 4:57It's always a bit of a, what is also.
- 4:59One of the list is discontinuity, guide, stupid,
- 5:02tiresome and very irritating! No, I want of it.
- 5:05What does Paul Cornell know any, right?
- 5:07Bloody Father's Day, didn't eat for goodness sakes.
- 5:11I just have to say one thing to you though.
- 5:12Before you press play a little guys, please play the second.
- 5:14Yeah. Yeah you got the clicker there
- 5:17is Thank you because there's no way, no way hear me out.
- 5:24I'm not being sarcastic for once.
- 5:26I will say thank you because you have allowed me to develop an
- 5:30appreciation for the absolute turkeys of Doctor Who so thanks
- 5:36to you. I mean, I would love the chase
- 5:38but now thanks to our two. I've got a renewed appreciation
- 5:41of keys of marinus, the Space Museum the underwater Menace, I
- 5:46mean the list goes on and on and on I love them all.
- 5:49Now, and I gave and renovation five out of ten ones on Taco,
- 5:54her reviews, my God. Now, I think I would give it an
- 5:588. It's fun, it's great.
- 6:00And we will see how much fun it is.
- 6:02Well, press play. Okay, here we go.
- 6:03To encounter. We waved you've had any for the
- 6:05last five minutes. Okay, three, two, one, go.
- 6:09We are, we are diddly Dum diddly Dum written by Terry Nation.
- 6:15Yes my at we can between shows. Well yeah.
- 6:17I mean if listed Have had to watch who it's become a bit of a
- 6:22thing. A Terry Nation.
- 6:22Part 1 has been a bit of a thing I did while back the
- 6:25termination, drinking game part. Why are they died?
- 6:29There was a series of images of Mars.
- 6:32Yes, I did try. There's a series of pictures,
- 6:37right? It started off in the Daleks.
- 6:39He looked perfectly Sober. By the time we got this, it's
- 6:43tough call it. Yeah, it was do a shot.
- 6:46Well, I turned into a sip in the end because I couldn't do a shot
- 6:49and He's a Mariners part 1. Yeah, there's a lot and it's
- 6:53here in this story as well. That's what we say unto us who a
- 6:57lot. Terry Nation doesn't really
- 6:59develop his style Doctor Who changes from the 60s right
- 7:02through, you know, start but termination doesn't really
- 7:06change the Daleks part 1, but this is a great opening.
- 7:09Is there with all my guard unit Soldier?
- 7:13You've got, to be honest. This is a story that starts off,
- 7:15exceptionally strong, and doesn't quite end as strong.
- 7:19Okay. Okay.
- 7:20And this is a great location of forest wheel of a forest.
- 7:23Don't we interpret a quiz that forest and did call it was
- 7:26nearby? This is on private land because
- 7:28I did look up, although location for you, when you can't go cause
- 7:30we're gonna be wet trenching for a load of woods.
- 7:33I've got stuck up a tree. I mean, you could go to any
- 7:35woods really and you remember that?
- 7:37Yeah, yes. Okay, I got I went so high in
- 7:39this tree. I couldn't get that.
- 7:44Oh, here we go. Tom Baker, and Elisabeth,
- 7:46sladen. I mean, is there anything he
- 7:48wanna peek? Of their time here.
- 7:51And I and season was weird, verse 8, 13.
- 7:55And don't you just love it with doctor who goes to a nice?
- 7:57Leafy would exactly. Yeah, it's the best thing in the
- 8:00world. You know why?
- 8:01Because kids have all got Woods near them exactly.
- 8:03You can pretend. This is anywhere.
- 8:05I mean, we could have taken a photo in any forest and said
- 8:07we've been to the location of Angelo Buddies.
- 8:19I think he's got a bit of a hold on.
- 8:21Is this is after you jumped in that war.
- 8:24Oh, of course, we go from quietness or something like
- 8:26that. Bronchitis, something like that,
- 8:30an STD of some kind, no doubt that's actually make it.
- 8:38Yeah, well, people's houses at this point.
- 8:45Hello Doctor, Who and your house with Elizabeth Please, I love
- 8:50these openings are, this is what Terry Nation does very well, the
- 8:52doctor and companion exploring on their own.
- 8:55You don't really get a sense of anything else going on, really?
- 8:59You're finding out as they find. It's all about.
- 9:02There are one because other there's other stories.
- 9:05I think we start off with a space liner and it's all the
- 9:08crew doing and you don't see the Doctor Who companion for like
- 9:10quite a while into this episode. I was there.
- 9:16Yeah. So is that what you like is that
- 9:18your We have set this up. We it's of quite a linear
- 9:23narrative. There's nothing wrong with that,
- 9:26though. It's quite.
- 9:26What is fun? I mean, let's just say, can't
- 9:29the Mysteries are hitting this? I see, that's why I love.
- 9:31And I okay, they don't always pay off but it doesn't matter
- 9:33because it's a fun part 1, We went.
- 9:35Okay. So here's the, the white boiler
- 9:38suit robot people. We went to this location.
- 9:40This is on the edge of, and may I say we all reported along
- 9:43here. It's a nice plowed field now.
- 9:45Ours, running away from the. I did try.
- 9:48Yeah, I marked of the Office run I've ever seen in my life that
- 9:50is in fact on YouTube. Should you wish to go?
- 9:54So here, the doctrines are we run down that way as they did at
- 9:58the edge of this field and there's a lovely actual Village
- 10:02is just in car. Same, their same way that it's
- 10:05portrayed in this, they run through down and there's a path
- 10:08because that's where Sarah. Down.
- 10:19This is on private land. This is a private Quarry.
- 10:21So obviously we didn't do this. Okay, I say yeah she manages to
- 10:25make this, you know, the director Barry Letts.
- 10:27Yeah. Which we will talk about more
- 10:29because you do your love him. No matter it is, he does manage
- 10:34to make this look like a vertiginous drop, if I'm like,
- 10:37Peter Moffat in the five doctors, exactly.
- 10:39If they could do this here in the 70s, why not?
- 10:42In the five? Doctors also, which goes, by the
- 10:45way. It's the director, isn't it?
- 10:47The director? Yeah.
- 10:49And the ambition and that's uh not God.
- 10:51I love this but I'm sorry to interrupt you this bit where the
- 10:54man goes slow motion over the cliff.
- 10:57I mean it's such a memorable image and it's effectively
- 11:01committing suicide and nobody really talks.
- 11:03You know, you talk about the horror moments of Hinchcliffe.
- 11:06No one really talks about this though is because it's sunny and
- 11:10not something it's pretty windy gray.
- 11:13No, I don't really know you played by, he's always in Terry
- 11:18Walsh. Terry Walsh knife.
- 11:20Oh, who is it? I want to make.
- 11:22I don't know. Yes, I want to call him Max
- 11:24somebody he's I know I recognize him in Pella.
- 11:26Don is a badger person impeller Don and heat.
- 11:28Are you sure that's what Terry Walsh that is not Terry Walsh.
- 11:31He's Terry. Walsh was not Ginger.
- 11:32If anybody knows who this stunt man, is it somehow somebody?
- 11:36I think all I'll say is this is our try to recreate this moment
- 11:39in did Carl. Yeah.
- 11:40I jump up onto a style and jumped off that style with the
- 11:44sun behind me as million times and then what made it in slow
- 11:47motion, it doesn't Anywhere near as good as him going off.
- 11:50That Cliff though, this is interesting point that freshly
- 11:54minted money money. Yeah.
- 12:00All the Mysteries are building up.
- 12:02So I really like and we ain't even started.
- 12:04We know, even in the village yet.
- 12:06No. So this is some Quarry somewhere
- 12:09we never went near. No, no, no, we didn't go to
- 12:11this. This is all I think I actually
- 12:13love it when their pods come down that are big stop told us.
- 12:15They are the sultanas. I called them.
- 12:17I didn't like yeah, I wanna hear It's what I tried to say that
- 12:20speaks or ton, right? Look, look at the bottom is
- 12:22grass there, okay? And then when the doctor and
- 12:26Sarah have to duck down when they get shot at look, someone's
- 12:29put a little crash mat thing down for them, so they don't get
- 12:32dirty on the grass. You'll see it when they get back
- 12:34up. It will getting a sense of deja
- 12:36vu, Mark did in fact make that point in our first version of
- 12:38the, a Droid evasion called? Yeah, we know, it's one of those
- 12:43things where you, I've watched it so many times.
- 12:45I had the video, you never noticed, something like that.
- 12:48So then once, Someone points out absolutely.
- 12:51Yeah. There's the there on a little
- 12:52man. Oh, come on.
- 12:58You don't and zarif, never notice that.
- 13:03Unless someone points these things out when they get up.
- 13:06It's so obvious. Almost put this old sofa down
- 13:09for them. It's a bit like one suit.
- 13:11It gets you know. Oh okay.
- 13:16Can I just say? Because Sarah Chu said when You
- 13:19were doing the Android vaginal to watch who, but she thought it
- 13:22was the autons. I first of all, I was like, what
- 13:25is she talking about? Then I'm thinking no various
- 13:27weapons in my hands. Exactly.
- 13:29It's very auton like and I wonder why nobody belittled.
- 13:33I do whatever makes that connection to like, nowadays.
- 13:35We sat in that bed which is sitting on that bench, and this
- 13:38is the path going down to the Village.
- 13:39It was lovely also. No!
- 13:41Can I have a moment for Dudley Simpson?
- 13:43Whose music is bloody. Brilliant in this.
- 13:47Yeah, he's great. I'm having a moment.
- 13:49Oh no. Sorry.
- 13:50All right if I hear it? Oh no.
- 13:52I just meant. I thought no moment to think
- 13:53about it. What's up laughter silence?
- 13:55Was not delete it. So yes.
- 13:59Okay, so this, yeah, this Village hit, it's in the middle
- 14:02of nowhere. This is spinach is Tiny.
- 14:05Oh, it's so nice though. I mean they've got their own
- 14:08because we went it was really hot day.
- 14:09A bit like this here. Yeah, we found ourselves
- 14:12wondering around this Village trying to find obviously that
- 14:14the main bit in the middle of the road.
- 14:16There it was so hot. We would like We need ice cream
- 14:20or a drink or some. There was this cute little shop
- 14:22just around the corner. We found this shop and this
- 14:27woman was walking like sort of alongside us and we said oh
- 14:31excuse me. Do you know where the nearest
- 14:32shop is issuing? Yeah just along here, I'm just
- 14:35going to run it now so I don't know what kind of it was like
- 14:39all the villagers ran the shop. They took it in turns to like
- 14:42volunteer to run the local shopping you stop.
- 14:45Won't take much to run. It was it was a broom cupboard.
- 14:47It literally was. And you had like, You went in,
- 14:49it was like, it's like a little cabin wasn't, it's tiny.
- 14:53And you had a tiny little freezer with some ice creams, a
- 14:55couple of tins of baked beans. Some?
- 14:57Right? Little bits of cereal and thank
- 14:58God, I'm some ice cream. It was very in the middle of
- 15:01nowhere. He was like going back to
- 15:03another time in that place. But just say, I want to say
- 15:07Barry, let's makes the village look really quite vast and it is
- 15:11essentially a single road. So when they look at that road
- 15:14with the, what do you call that thing?
- 15:16That's in the middle that gets tied.
- 15:17So war memorial, I think. Okay.
- 15:18Well, Oil. I think they use a wider lens
- 15:21because in real life that is such a tiny.
- 15:24Yeah. Road, it is time.
- 15:26It is really small that area Class A Lot was like, I'm going
- 15:29look, I want you to tie me up to that war memorial and then film
- 15:32it and he's going. Can we wait till there's no one
- 15:34around I want? No I won't do it now so I didn't
- 15:37give a shit. I was just up there and I didn't
- 15:39he Mark even what real Ivy did I did out like Ivy I'll pass yeah
- 15:46your attention to detail was phenomenal.
- 15:49I'm sure those villagers are used a bit like him.
- 15:52What's it called? The demons 10 wikiHow.
- 15:55No Wars Will See cold David. If they're sold on Gallifrey old
- 16:08old born. Oh boy, that's a old game, a bit
- 16:13like all the devil's. Hump devils devils end and yeah,
- 16:16a bit like that. No one comes here for.
- 16:19That's a detail. I think the villagers are very
- 16:21used to Doctor Who fans coming here.
- 16:23Yeah. And I'm afraid in that moment.
- 16:25Well no, it's right outside the house, I felt a bit, I don't
- 16:27know, but it's hot. That's hot.
- 16:29Okay, I know you got pictures of Tom Baker, Elisabeth sladen up
- 16:31all over the walls. There's no one else in that Pub
- 16:33that's their biggest bit of trays is.do fans going in there.
- 16:37I mean you wouldn't God on the Android Invasion DVD that we're
- 16:40currently watching. Nicholas Briggs ghost and
- 16:42there's literally got this warm again.
- 16:43Oh yes. We remember when dr.
- 16:45Road came to the Village Tom Baker and Elisabeth sladen.
- 16:51I don't know why. She's America, the American.
- 16:54I'll make a Russian in a minute. No, she says that apparently,
- 16:58when school was out, the whole village was flooded with kids.
- 17:02Mmm, amazing. I mean, look at them, you would
- 17:04wouldn't you? Yeah.
- 17:05When you let all the primary school, if there's filming going
- 17:08on and stuff, may I say that Elisabeth sladen is in fact,
- 17:11wearing a very functional clothes for this, one's for
- 17:13lots, of running around and stuff.
- 17:15Yeah, and nice. Pink trouser suit and she looks
- 17:18fabulous. This is a salmon is salmon?
- 17:21No, it's not salmon. Salmon pink.
- 17:24Yeah, well there's a bit more orange.
- 17:27Love pop that looks like, this is a great set and it matches, I
- 17:30think the outside very well, I love a pub like this.
- 17:34I think the all these it and it's a tie show.
- 17:37Your arms about the Avengers are, remarkably the Avengers of
- 17:39the set of the late 60s. This Pub could go up against in
- 17:43Pub Wars with the set in Battlefield.
- 17:45They're very great good. Oh my, oh my God.
- 17:49Yeah. Um, I was put that third out of
- 17:52these, okay, there's some Battlefield, I put battlefield,
- 17:54but in in the reign of terror, no, that's even one of the
- 17:59puppets in the war machines that we keep cutting tool.
- 18:02That's a club back to have people watching the TV.
- 18:11This game, there's a terrible emergency occur in these great
- 18:14cardboard boxes are attacking London here we have the Android
- 18:19Villagers arriving in there that this anxiety.
- 18:21Oh my God. This man with some star scares.
- 18:23The hell outta me, scared me. I did a great impression of him
- 18:25dinner, we could. Yeah, I don't know.
- 18:27He's just face. Just scares me and stare like,
- 18:29at this point. Yeah.
- 18:30We genuinely think this is the Earth because the doctors have
- 18:33landed. They said to us.
- 18:34This is the Earth. So it appears that lots of
- 18:38various traits things are going on on the earth.
- 18:41I think, if you don't look, I mean and and it does obviously
- 18:44turn Outlets across planet and everything like that, if you
- 18:47analyze the story, very, you know, In detail like the eye
- 18:50patch and all of that it doesn't really hold up but that's what
- 18:52Terry nation is great. He gets the Big Ideas, he writes
- 18:56his scripts with bullet points, Androids fake, Hearth, gross,
- 19:02Sarah's face falling. Well actually he didn't write
- 19:04that and then he's like, oh actually need to write scrip for
- 19:06this now and he just mess it. Mixes it all up, but it's great.
- 19:09I love it. You're underselling the The
- 19:12Genius of this because until you find out at the end of episode
- 19:16two, but this is not the Earth. Yeah, you are being let down by
- 19:21called and Paul for two entire episodes, you've been hoodwinked
- 19:25in the most spectacular way and then that when the twist hits is
- 19:29like, fuck me. This all makes sense.
- 19:31Now, all of it makes sense. Yeah.
- 19:34I think it's a very, very clever piece of structuring.
- 19:37It's were then after that, I like episode free, when we're
- 19:39still on the planet and it's all sort of I think episode 4 is the
- 19:44weakest in this. Yeah, we go back.
- 19:46We get kind of I think I'm kind of Faraday's.
- 19:49No problem. Can I just say Barry Letts his
- 19:52use of suspense and silence in this scene where everyone's just
- 19:56there? It's like, yeah.
- 20:00And it goes, yeah, it's pretty ending up.
- 20:02What is happening? They all come to life and Barry.
- 20:04Let grief. So Barry Letts coming back to
- 20:06direct our, okay, it's great. You please explain to the people
- 20:10out there. Why in fact did you are going to
- 20:13dig up every lesson? Marry him?
- 20:15I thought, I just When he does all these DVD interviews and
- 20:21commentaries that he does for the DVD range when he was alive,
- 20:25he just speaks common sense and I do like it when these are two
- 20:29countries speak Common Sense tells the truth, it's all very
- 20:32balanced, it's not over-the-top. He's like and his autobiography.
- 20:37His Memoir gave him reading that.
- 20:40So Ami is brilliant. He's just so well-balanced.
- 20:43He's like, this is happened. I could just listen to him all
- 20:45day and he's just Since when he's and you can see, he's not
- 20:50maybe not the most dynamic director out of all of the
- 20:54Doctor Who directors. But he understands because
- 20:58you've obviously been producing. You understand it.
- 21:00So well, he answers not to make televi know.
- 21:02Yeah, exactly. Like he's clearly learned his
- 21:05craft. Well, he's acted.
- 21:07Yeah. Directed his produced, he's
- 21:09written. So he understands the entire
- 21:11media of Television. So, yeah.
- 21:13Maybe he's not as dynamic as Douglas Canfield or someone like
- 21:16that. That, but I think he is
- 21:19shockingly competent like everything.
- 21:21He directs, you know, you can guarantee it's going to be a
- 21:25good piece of teller. And you can just tell that he
- 21:26would bring it in, on, time, on budget.
- 21:28Yeah. And everyone.
- 21:29He wouldn't have any issues with anyone.
- 21:31He's just brilliant. I love about her is, like,
- 21:34obviously did Doctor Who they needed classic cereals.
- 21:37And I'm not sure what he did after that, but he came back
- 21:40after all these years to talk about these stories, on
- 21:43documentaries on commentaries and things like that.
- 21:47And what he remembers about the technicalities, he gives such
- 21:52insight into his character and his stories, and I just believe
- 21:56that you selling me the truth as well.
- 21:58Well, sometimes I listen to his comedy Limelight, whatever he's
- 22:02saying, you know what I mean and been interested in the technical
- 22:08side of things and the behind the scene side of things, he
- 22:10just brings that sensible voice. I could just listen to him all
- 22:14day and even like, you know, Terrance dicks goes over the
- 22:17top. A little bit and get a bunch of
- 22:18stuff and what their became manic.
- 22:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:21Because he brings him back down to earth a little bit and he's
- 22:23like, actually this is so commentaries with them on.
- 22:26Absolutely pretty. It's just a shame that you
- 22:28didn't get to finish. He did fully one of his book,
- 22:30didn't he? And then.
- 22:30Yeah. And the only really got halfway
- 22:33through his time was all. You told me that you saw him
- 22:35when he said he wasn't going to was he someone someone?
- 22:47Just because he got about sort of just the end of season a even
- 22:51and I would have loved to have listened to the yeah, he stood,
- 22:56his side of things for the rest of the part we are but even
- 22:58stuff, like, I just always wanted to know what he was like
- 23:00when he was advising on season 18 with John nathan-turner.
- 23:03Oh, my God. Story hasn't really been told by
- 23:05anywhere because he didn't want to talk about it and you can't
- 23:09really tell me you got bit from John nathan-turner, side of
- 23:12things. But I know no one's really said,
- 23:14what went on or what is? I'd love to know who their point
- 23:16of view. Theories are why season?
- 23:18Yeah, I know. Yeah, I most intelligent the
- 23:21most, the best budget is that really the best looking J&T
- 23:25season of how out of barrel? It's a story.
- 23:27It's that sort of time that I'd love to know but I just don't
- 23:30think I just think we've gone from the woods and the
- 23:34space-suited people to the village with the zombie people
- 23:39to a space security center. Now I mean it doesn't really
- 23:44like why is unit? Is unit just because obviously
- 23:50creepers up in the rocket. But I don't understand why the
- 23:52Brigadier would have his named, he's put his name on his door or
- 23:54does he just sort of set up camp and they just someone printed
- 23:57off a name for his. He's got an office there at this
- 24:00research. Why is it like you hate him at
- 24:02all? They didn't mention unit at all
- 24:04in the sea Devils. Hmm.
- 24:06And so you're not going away as you did with the Brigadier, by
- 24:09doing this. You're going always the
- 24:11Brigadier, does it need to be unit human.
- 24:13What happened? Nicholas County was like, I
- 24:15ain't doing that because know, You wrote me out the show?
- 24:18Yeah, I'm not coming. I got a fear run this guy for
- 24:20six months. Oh, and we lose the Tardis here
- 24:24or Miss lay that on another chair.
- 24:25In a termination things, something wrong with the Tardis
- 24:28can't get back in. Don't let loose a lot in one of
- 24:30Italy's Mariners. No, that's all right.
- 24:33It's an invisible force. There is a force field in he's
- 24:35in Mariners. Well then it all gets gunked up
- 24:39in planning. The darling.
- 24:43There's always something isn't all dietary plan it stays on
- 24:46Kimball don't. Yes, and they're off.
- 24:52Chase. I'll part from the chase.
- 24:54Well, they need it, but they need to get, they need it in the
- 24:56junk, in chance. Oh, look at this man.
- 25:01Coming up the Sultana. He strangles, Sarah, Jane Ryan.
- 25:05I think it's supposed to be tonight.
- 25:06So close though, doesn't very comical.
- 25:08I won't get close. Why does a she's gonna kiss him?
- 25:16What if I was hard about enough for now?
- 25:18Oh and here we have Milton John's.
- 25:23Like I've seen him last in Doctor Who in enemy of the world
- 25:25been brilliant as well. I knew him absolutely from the
- 25:29BBC children's series. I don't know if anyone remembers
- 25:32has this. My first memory of loving a TV
- 25:37show and being a fan of a TV show was cbbc's, happy families,
- 25:421988 89, Nine based on the books from Allah Al Berg and he play
- 25:49heat. It was like a it was like a sort
- 25:50of wrap company. There was a group of accident
- 25:52and they did a different sort of Story Each time.
- 25:54I've never heard of it until he showed me a clip and the first
- 25:57one was mrs. Wobble the waitress with a net
- 25:59Badland as mrs. Warble she was awesome nervous
- 26:05when Milton Jones character, Alfonso shouts when he shouted
- 26:17I'm sad first the food around but then all the customers loved
- 26:20her because she follows the food around but Milton Jones is are
- 26:23mr. What a but you're fired honestly
- 26:27I don't watch is a great as mr. Creep, the crook as well in the
- 26:31same program in the same program.
- 26:32So happy families. It's amazing.
- 26:34That's how I know him. What can I say?
- 26:36It's a very different role from enemy of the world where he was
- 26:41the Sinister and sadistic henchman oh absolutely.
- 26:44And I'm very Camp. May I say?
- 26:46But apart from this and happy families, I've not seen him in
- 26:48anything else. No, not anywhere else.
- 26:50It's brilliant and may I say so that's a race.
- 27:00Isn't a commentary of this because it's a good commentary.
- 27:02This is got the guy placed ikran Marquez bit boring and it was
- 27:08jobs. Yeah, and Milton John says that
- 27:11he loved working with Tom Baker, like he made it.
- 27:14I really Farm delightful experience but he said he worked
- 27:18with Patrick troughton twice and he died.
- 27:22He said he never got to know him.
- 27:23He was quite obscure on the stair and I thought that was
- 27:26quite interesting because everyone always says Patrick
- 27:27Chan was so much fun to be around.
- 27:29He's the first person I never knowed to say that he was
- 27:31actually was a bit of a mysterious character.
- 27:33Well, as distance you did have a bit of a stressful time on them
- 27:37to did. He, maybe just didn't hit me
- 27:39with the world because it was Barry Letts.
- 27:41He confessed to bury that he wanted to leave an enemy in the
- 27:44world. Oh yeah.
- 27:45A tree Crown. Yeah.
- 27:47I mean the whole eye patch thing in.
- 27:49This does let the character of God created down a little bit,
- 27:51tell us apart, but all I had to do was cover it with a line,
- 27:55right? All they had to say was he'd
- 27:57been hypnotized her. Not look Brave.
- 28:01Yeah, you know, maybe that was and I'm surprised.
- 28:03It's right behind script editing.
- 28:05Isn't it that something like that would be?
- 28:07Because he's usually quite things like that I covered,
- 28:10aren't they? All of some of this action?
- 28:11This is, this is again, this is a private location.
- 28:14We couldn't go to this one. We would have done.
- 28:16It is a very less. Yeah, the pace of this first
- 28:21episode is Relentless much goes on tons of outside location,
- 28:25work, loads of mysteries and suspense like this is peak.
- 28:30Sold one and I think all the location filming really helps
- 28:33the story. There's a lot of words, 50/50,
- 28:36location and Studio. I suppose, this will does really
- 28:39help, um, looks marvelous, and that's costume done it.
- 28:42I'm sorry she's got cool shoes on in their city is notice.
- 28:48No, I'll have a look now. Oh, God, you're mine and had one
- 28:50of those phones. It's when I was phones where you
- 28:52have to do around of around, yeah we've had a phone 999, you
- 28:56know, bit of trouble, you know especially having a seizure or
- 28:59something, you know. Whoa made long, but again,
- 29:04another termination thing monster, at the end of part 1
- 29:07and moored at least have some music goes down down and they're
- 29:14doing the terror of the zygons thing on there.
- 29:16But just showing you a little bit of the monster, which I
- 29:18think is wise for the crawls, Islanders effective of the first
- 29:20time on terra's. I've been.
- 29:22So let's be honest. That's because the design of the
- 29:25crawls is not quite as good as the design of the zygote.
- 29:27I think they look their best here when he puts his head
- 29:29through this hole. That's the best across.
- 29:31Somebody gotta see it. Just seen that bit of him.
- 29:36This is the best they look after this.
- 29:38I'm sorry, they don't really work.
- 29:40That is scary. I think for an end of part 1
- 29:43monster, do you think Philip Hinchcliffe talks as much sense
- 29:45as Barry laughing. He's quite sensible Xylo.
- 29:47Yes, absolutely. He's great.
- 29:49He is scathing about the design of the Cross.
- 29:51Now, he likes the story, he likes the Mysteries, he likes
- 29:54the writing. There's always that One
- 29:55Direction, all of these classic so it was math feltner.
- 29:58Faulkner for governor? Yeah.
- 30:00Yeah, then you don't need to tweet us now folks, we just read
- 30:05the credits, there's always one thing that let you know like
- 30:10when Chang it's the rat in these great stories is always one
- 30:14thing and unfortunately this if the crows were a little bit
- 30:16better, I think this would be viewed.
- 30:18Well he says because the cross is supposed to be these highly
- 30:20skilled technicians yet, they've got these dream hands and I'll
- 30:24do anything more. I'm sure we should look this up.
- 30:26What? Terry Nation described them as
- 30:28in his Script because was it a vague Terry Nation.
- 30:33We probably put think Ryan was it?
- 30:36Or was it? I can't think of what they call
- 30:38Kroll's but you make them up what you want.
- 30:40It's what you would usually do is the Daleks before we out this
- 30:45episode. May I just make a comment on my
- 30:47favorite dick. Sure, dick meals rights.
- 30:52Who's a special sound man, throughout?
- 30:54Most of the seventies, you know? Yes.
- 30:57And I'll tell you what, though. Because I think the same
- 31:00Technicians, a doctor who do off the world.
- 31:01The budget can't do most trying times and may I say, he does
- 31:06some fabulous things in this, you know, the bit where Sarah
- 31:08Jane strap to the to the chair and the lights, call the Royals
- 31:11game where? Yeah I watched it, the fabulous,
- 31:15whoops alarm and when they Androids are firing their guns
- 31:21that goes, we should all go to a dick Mills concert or imagined
- 31:27all them noises alive. Or I could just do them all on
- 31:31here.
