- 1:47Speaker 3: cond of goes along here today. So, gentlemen, what's been
- 1:50Speaker 3: going on? How's how's the dental hodgien business? Oh, you know,
- 1:54Speaker 3: it's great. It's a summer, summertime in the dental field.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Just like many others, there's a lot out of going
- 2:01Speaker 3: and coming and Evan, Yeah, schedules.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Get a little bit wild and unpredictable at times for
- 2:09Speaker 4: patients and for our staff and for ourselves. So it's uh,
- 2:12Speaker 4: this always keeping you on your toes.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Basically, it sounds like that we could almost be part
- 2:16Speaker 3: of the same business because the last four weeks solid
- 2:20Speaker 3: has been everybody out of shift, out of out of slot,
- 2:25Speaker 3: in some way, shape or form, covering for vacationing people.
- 2:27Speaker 3: So like this morning we have Ryan Nicholson is is
- 2:32Speaker 3: subbing for Anthony on the morning news and producing it,
- 2:34Speaker 3: which means that Matt Murphy subbing for Ryan on midday.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I mean, it's all it's all in a domino effect.
- 2:40Speaker 3: We have our creative directors out. I'm covering for him
- 2:42Speaker 3: as I'm doing other jobs. Summer's always a fun time.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Industry voices on the air, you know, in different spots.
- 2:49Speaker 4: You know that can happen as well. I'm sure here
- 2:51Speaker 4: is as in our offices. We have to have to
- 2:54Speaker 4: give a big shout out to Joanna that is our
- 2:57Speaker 4: operations manager. She's her phone's on. I don't know over
- 3:02Speaker 4: time right now because it just keeps blowing up with everybody,
- 3:06Speaker 4: you know, changing shifts and changing schedules to fill for
- 3:10Speaker 4: others in and out of in and out of town.
- 3:12Speaker 4: So it's everyone's having a good summer, but it poses
- 3:17Speaker 4: some different challenges.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I know that we always could talk about continuing education,
- 3:23Speaker 3: different types of emergent technologies, things like that on this
- 3:26Speaker 3: program as we try to keep folks appraised of the
- 3:29Speaker 3: different tools that are in the dentist toolbox and how
- 3:31Speaker 3: they can help out in different situation. And we have
- 3:33Speaker 3: some relatively new proces you'll have to explain. As far
- 3:36Speaker 3: as dentrists go, that's something we talk about a lot.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Of course, a lot of folks. Unfortunately in West Virginia,
- 3:41Speaker 3: that's probably a situation we run into people with a
- 3:44Speaker 3: lot of dentures because of the general hygiene issues we've
- 3:47Speaker 3: had in the past in this area, but just in
- 3:49Speaker 3: general across the country. I mean, dentrists is a big issue.
- 3:52Speaker 3: It's always an issue where people have problems with them
- 3:54Speaker 3: being amounted correctly, problems with them being loose or whatever.
- 3:57Speaker 3: So any anything that we have that makes that maybe
- 3:59Speaker 3: a little bitter or for some people or all people,
- 4:01Speaker 3: or however it might be, is always good news. So
- 4:02Speaker 3: we do have some news in bad asp in that area.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, And that's something that's very exciting that we've
- 4:09Speaker 4: started doing, just done a couple of cases here in
- 4:12Speaker 4: my office that is a new way to attach dentures
- 4:18Speaker 4: to implants and we talk about implants a lot on
- 4:20Speaker 4: the show, and hopefully our listeners are used to that
- 4:23Speaker 4: and used to that procedure. But something that is very
- 4:30Speaker 4: very new, I suppose, and I think life changing for
- 4:34Speaker 4: many patients that we've started doing is a way to
- 4:39Speaker 4: fix a denture, to snap a denture to implants and
- 4:44Speaker 4: then it does not come out again. So that's what
- 4:47Speaker 4: a lot of patients have been really looking for over
- 4:50Speaker 4: the years, and an affordable way to do it as well.
- 4:54Speaker 4: So in the past, what we've had, we've had pretty
- 4:58Speaker 4: well two options. We can make you ventures that snap
- 5:01Speaker 4: to your implants, but then they come in and out,
- 5:03Speaker 4: you take them in and out, and those little liners
- 5:05Speaker 4: we replace them over time. Or we can make you
- 5:08Speaker 4: a more robust type of a prosthesis. How can I
- 5:16Speaker 4: say that a little more simply, but some teeth that
- 5:19Speaker 4: are made out of hard material that glue and screw
- 5:23Speaker 4: to the implants, right, So that's that's something that that's
- 5:26Speaker 4: the that's the upper level of restoring a mouth that
- 5:31Speaker 4: is missing teeth, and that's something we've done for a
- 5:33Speaker 4: long time. But then in between has always been a
- 5:36Speaker 4: little bit hard. Either you have something that snaps in
- 5:39Speaker 4: and that the patient has to take in and out daily,
- 5:43Speaker 4: or you have something that is locked onto the implants,
- 5:46Speaker 4: but it is much more expensive because it's a lot
- 5:50Speaker 4: different material and a lot of different lab components to it,
- 5:54Speaker 4: and a lot more cost involved. So now we've found
- 5:58Speaker 4: a bridge between those something between bridge. There's a good
- 6:05Speaker 4: a good little dental joke in the morning, so anyway,
- 6:09Speaker 4: but we can find something in between that I'm calling
- 6:13Speaker 4: a hybrid snap on type of a denture. But what
- 6:17Speaker 4: we can do is take that denture and snap it
- 6:21Speaker 4: on and it does not come off until your dentist
- 6:27Speaker 4: takes it off for you to clean every six months.
- 6:31Speaker 4: So it's so patients love that because they don't have
- 6:35Speaker 4: to fool with something coming in and out that they
- 6:38Speaker 4: can potentially drop and break and create different stresses on
- 6:42Speaker 4: that that denture with this constant moving taking in and out.
- 6:46Speaker 2: And.
- 6:48Speaker 4: It's something that they're comfortable with because they've gotten used
- 6:52Speaker 4: to this denture and we've made sure that it's comfortable
- 6:55Speaker 4: for them and it doesn't rub any sore spots, and
- 6:58Speaker 4: then we can snap that that sucker on and they
- 7:00Speaker 4: don't have to worry about it anymore and it stays
- 7:02Speaker 4: in so's it's pretty cool.
- 7:04Speaker 3: This sounds really like you're getting a lot closer. I mean,
- 7:06Speaker 3: we've been talking abou dentists for a long time on
- 7:07Speaker 3: this program, and this sounds like something we were getting
- 7:09Speaker 3: a lot closer to. I mean, really, when you talk
- 7:12Speaker 3: to patients and the complaints that folks have or whatever
- 7:15Speaker 3: they might be, this comes even closer to addressing those issues.
- 7:17Speaker 5: It sounds like, So would you say that this is
- 7:21Speaker 5: a happy medium for that patient that doesn't want that
- 7:24Speaker 5: thing that comes in and out? But also what isn't
- 7:26Speaker 5: sure if they want to spend the money, Can they
- 7:29Speaker 5: maybe in the future go to that more permanent solution
- 7:32Speaker 5: and use those implants for that situation.
- 7:36Speaker 4: That's a good question. Definitely they can. That's that's the
- 7:39Speaker 4: beauty of the different types of implant therapies that we
- 7:44Speaker 4: implement in our offices is that patients can start with,
- 7:49Speaker 4: you know, the basic version, and then they can upgrade
- 7:53Speaker 4: as they as they like. So some patients I have
- 7:56Speaker 4: have started with just you know, two implants and a
- 7:59Speaker 4: denture just to hold their denture in place. Well, I
- 8:01Speaker 4: want this thing to be a little tighter, so we
- 8:03Speaker 4: put in four implants, use that same denture and upgrade
- 8:07Speaker 4: it to a fore implant option and they say, well,
- 8:09Speaker 4: I want something that stays in, and now we can
- 8:12Speaker 4: upgrade that same denture to a denture that stays in.
- 8:15Speaker 4: And then if they say, well, I want something that
- 8:18Speaker 4: looks more natural, that doesn't have this venture kind of
- 8:22Speaker 4: pink acrylic on it, and something just like teeth that's
- 8:26Speaker 4: more slim line, then we can upgrade them to a
- 8:29Speaker 4: fixed dental bridge that stays in. So, yeah, we can
- 8:32Speaker 4: always upgrade throughout this process to the next level. But
- 8:37Speaker 4: this is a nice stepping stone in that direction or
- 8:43Speaker 4: a good final place for patient to be if that's
- 8:44Speaker 4: what they really like.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Hey, you just hear so much about dentures and problems
- 8:48Speaker 3: that it can cause either when folks are when talking
- 8:53Speaker 3: or eating or any number of those issues, and it
- 8:54Speaker 3: has to cause a little bit of a life quality
- 8:57Speaker 3: of life issue. You know, we're trying to hold discussions
- 8:59Speaker 3: or dinners that it could give you a little a
- 9:02Speaker 3: little hasn't see what those types of things or make
- 9:04Speaker 3: you self conscious, So it's very nice to adjust those
- 9:06Speaker 3: types of issues. That's got to be very very good
- 9:07Speaker 3: for patients.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's uh, this is for patients that may
- 9:12Speaker 4: be listening that have already some of these materials in
- 9:16Speaker 4: in in use in their mouth. These are called locator
- 9:20Speaker 4: attachments that are specific snaps that come out that attached
- 9:27Speaker 4: to the implant itself, a little stud sticking up from
- 9:32Speaker 4: the implant, and then there's a cup inside of the
- 9:34Speaker 4: denture that traditionally we can snap down onto it. And
- 9:38Speaker 4: then it's been made to be what they call a
- 9:40Speaker 4: resilient liner, meaning that it's it's a hard nylon material
- 9:45Speaker 4: inside of that cup that you use that that creates
- 9:49Speaker 4: a snap to those to that denture attaching it to
- 9:53Speaker 4: the implant. But then it's as it was in the past,
- 9:56Speaker 4: been made to be removed. But now being able to
- 9:59Speaker 4: snap that on with a more fixed liner, we can
- 10:04Speaker 4: easily what we call convert that denture to a fixed
- 10:08Speaker 4: denture that that many patients are wanting, because a lot
- 10:11Speaker 4: of the patients that come in they say, well, I
- 10:14Speaker 4: can't really swing financially to get up to that fixed
- 10:17Speaker 4: bridge option. That's, you know, the Cadillac version of giving
- 10:21Speaker 4: your teeth back. But I don't want something that's constantly
- 10:24Speaker 4: coming in and out of my mouth. So it's a
- 10:27Speaker 4: it's a great it's a great intermediary between the two,
- 10:31Speaker 4: you know, and the patients are really enjoying that.
- 10:33Speaker 3: It's really nice to have that that additional option on
- 10:36Speaker 3: there because that's something that hasn't been if able to
- 10:38Speaker 3: this point. And it sounds like within that you can
- 10:41Speaker 3: kind of upgrade as you're going along as well. So
- 10:43Speaker 3: if you have the opportunity, can that even be a
- 10:46Speaker 3: little later dot down the line, like for example, over
- 10:48Speaker 3: the course of a year you have work done, the
- 10:49Speaker 3: next year comes up, if if if you want to
- 10:51Speaker 3: have one of these upgrades done, could that work? Then
- 10:54Speaker 3: thinking about how dental insurance works and if you if
- 10:56Speaker 3: you're able to tap into something along those lines when
- 10:58Speaker 3: a calendar year to get an upgrader something I don't know, No, no, yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 3: I know that's complicated.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Insurance gets tricky. But the answer is yes, yeah you can.
- 11:06Speaker 4: You can delay that and this is a great way
- 11:08Speaker 4: to step towards those process those those different procedures too.
- 11:13Speaker 4: In fact, for who this is perfect for is a
- 11:17Speaker 4: patient that has had already a snap on denture or
- 11:20Speaker 4: even a routine denture and they've gotten used to it,
- 11:24Speaker 4: gotten the sore spots worked out. That's the issue too,
- 11:26Speaker 4: is because we're snapping this thing on and you're not
- 11:28Speaker 4: gonna be able to get it out, so we want
- 11:30Speaker 4: to be super comfortable for you. And that's the way
- 11:32Speaker 4: that we we work it is that we do a
- 11:34Speaker 4: gradual process to make sure that the patient's very comfortable
- 11:38Speaker 4: with that existing denture. And it could take some time,
- 11:40Speaker 4: so it could take over, you know, six months or
- 11:42Speaker 4: so if we really needed it to, and waiting a
- 11:45Speaker 4: little bit longer doesn't necessarily isn't necessarily a bad thing
- 11:49Speaker 4: in that situation, especially if you're trying to get some
- 11:51Speaker 4: help from your insurance.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's one of the things that I've discovered
- 11:54Speaker 3: the course of doing this show and having conversations with
- 11:57Speaker 3: with you and doctor Carson, is that when it comes
- 11:59Speaker 3: to dentriers or anything like that, really coming in to
- 12:01Speaker 3: be seen and being evaluated and figuring out what your
- 12:03Speaker 3: options want to be and maybe what you need to
- 12:05Speaker 3: do to get to the point where you need to
- 12:06Speaker 3: be whatever that is, that's really your first step. You
- 12:09Speaker 3: won't know anything until you get information behind it, and
- 12:11Speaker 3: don't make assumptions, because I think a lot of people
- 12:13Speaker 3: make assumptions on what they can and can't do, and
- 12:15Speaker 3: how much something does or doesn't cost, and it's probably
- 12:17Speaker 3: good to get an evaluation first before you assume those
- 12:21Speaker 3: things for sure.
- 12:22Speaker 4: And that's it's you know, it's a gradual process many times,
- 12:25Speaker 4: and that's where we need to have a you know,
- 12:30Speaker 4: a realistic outlook, you know, for how quickly things can
- 12:35Speaker 4: be done. And we want things to be done correctly
- 12:37Speaker 4: and properly. So many times it's it takes a little
- 12:42Speaker 4: bit of time, you know, and we got to plan
- 12:44Speaker 4: things out appropriately. We can move quickly when we need
- 12:48Speaker 4: to move quickly, but to ensure that patients are as
- 12:52Speaker 4: comfortable as we want them to be, sometimes it takes
- 12:54Speaker 4: a little longer.
- 12:55Speaker 3: You give us a call this morning if you have
- 12:56Speaker 3: any questions about maybe a dentrier situation you have, for
- 12:58Speaker 3: any dental hygiene situation for yourself, if you loved one,
- 13:02Speaker 3: if you want to take the opportunity to call, you
- 13:03Speaker 3: can call this this warning three zero four three four

- 13:38Speaker 3: B Grief Dentalgroup dot com and you're welcome to gives
- 13:42Speaker 3: a call today.
- 13:42Speaker 5: He's laughing because I'm slotting out of my chair anyway,
- 13:45Speaker 5: so researcher slipping, you know. So we actually just came
- 13:49Speaker 5: back from the Greenbrier, Is that correct, doctor Steven? And yes,
- 13:53Speaker 5: well I had to miss it because I, you know,
- 13:55Speaker 5: my family stuff. But I heard that there was a
- 13:57Speaker 5: big celebration there. If you want to discuss what happened
- 13:59Speaker 5: dot com, Stephen.
- 14:01Speaker 4: That is the big news. And yeah, this summer marks
- 14:07Speaker 4: the fiftieth year that doctor Sammy Greb my father has
- 14:12Speaker 4: been in dental practice. Oh wow. So it's relations that's
- 14:14Speaker 4: amazing that we're super proud of him for. And he's
- 14:17Speaker 4: still still working, you know, a couple of days a
- 14:20Speaker 4: week as he as he likes to and keeping everything
- 14:24Speaker 4: running at Greb Dental Groups. So so we're very fortunate
- 14:27Speaker 4: and blessed. He's in very good health and he's taught
- 14:30Speaker 4: us all more than more than anyone else could. So
- 14:34Speaker 4: so we're very proud of him and excited to share
- 14:37Speaker 4: that news and celebrate with him this this whole summer.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So my math would be seventy five then, is that right?
- 14:42Speaker 3: Since nineteen seventy five, that's right. Yeah, man, that's incredible.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I know that's been a long time because I was
- 14:46Speaker 3: born in seventy four, so it was definitely a long
- 14:48Speaker 3: time ago.
- 14:50Speaker 5: And I just want to point out that this is
- 14:51Speaker 5: the guy who's been doing this for fifty years. And
- 14:54Speaker 5: whenever we go and volunteer at health right, they put
- 14:57Speaker 5: doctor Seinan Greeb as the gold standard of just the
- 15:00Speaker 5: best care possible. We're like, we can never get to
- 15:03Speaker 5: a standard.
- 15:04Speaker 3: He is.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Thirty five years or however long that's right.
- 15:09Speaker 5: And so he just comes in and just whips out
- 15:11Speaker 5: these teeth.
- 15:12Speaker 2: He's just so quick.
- 15:13Speaker 5: And so good at doing it and so caring. So
- 15:15Speaker 5: he is definitely the guy that we look to and
- 15:18Speaker 5: we're thankful for starting Greediental Group and kind of being
- 15:21Speaker 5: that being that person that we can hopefully imitate one day,
- 15:24Speaker 5: hopefully I will.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Well, I know you guys have always been outreach has
- 15:27Speaker 3: always been a major party of your mission. And so
- 15:29Speaker 3: I know that that the patriarch, doctor Grieve has probably
- 15:34Speaker 3: taken a lot of pride and helping out with the community.
- 15:36Speaker 3: And you guys have done these different programs. I mean
- 15:39Speaker 3: every program that I know of that comes through telling
- 15:40Speaker 3: you guys participated in some way, shape or form that
- 15:42Speaker 3: gives back to the community to help people out that
- 15:44Speaker 3: are in a little lesser situation. So I mean that's
- 15:47Speaker 3: a that's a great that's a great thing.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Well, he's definitely set the He's definitely set the standard
- 15:52Speaker 4: for us and led by example in that way and
- 15:56Speaker 4: has always been very thankful for or you know, what
- 16:01Speaker 4: his career has given him and his family as well
- 16:05Speaker 4: as a state in community. So he's always very excited
- 16:08Speaker 4: to give back in any way that he can and
- 16:10Speaker 4: has passed that on to all of us, so thankfully
- 16:14Speaker 4: all of our doctors have taken that mantle, and as
- 16:17Speaker 4: doctor Henley was referencing at Health Right, they tell us consistently,
- 16:23Speaker 4: if it wasn't for Greed Dental Group, we wouldn't have
- 16:25Speaker 4: been able to care for all these patients at health Right,
- 16:27Speaker 4: and we're very proud to help with that.
- 16:30Speaker 3: It's great information and I always enjoy talking about those
- 16:33Speaker 3: things as well, your community outreach as well as continuing education.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Still plenty of stuff we're going to talk about this morning.

- 17:06Speaker 3: Right to the closest location to you, and they're all
- 17:08Speaker 3: over the valley. Pocus how Charleston cross Laine saying, all
- 17:11Speaker 3: Minstay's Valley in keanall city. We'll go ahead and take
- 17:13Speaker 3: a break and be back right after this. You're listening
- 17:15Speaker 3: to ask the expert w c HS the voice of
- 17:17Speaker 3: Charleston as promised, I have a little different music.
- 17:30Speaker 4: For for expert. Now. That was so upbeat. I loved it.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Well, I tried I try to make it more update
- 17:34Speaker 3: upbeat because uh, and I'll explained this the other morning.
- 17:38Speaker 3: But for years we were in a studio where we
- 17:40Speaker 3: didn't have a real time monitor, so you know, we
- 17:41Speaker 3: were going off of visual cues. So I was watching
- 17:44Speaker 3: the station, but I couldn't really hear it, So you know,
- 17:46Speaker 3: we were going off of visual cues with it's I mean.
- 17:48Speaker 4: It's funny you couldn't hear it. It's a right, there's.
- 17:52Speaker 3: A it's it's like I could I could hear the face.
- 17:55Speaker 3: For radio, I can hear as much as I need.
- 17:57Speaker 3: It's a radio is all voice and timming. If if
- 17:59Speaker 3: one doesn't work, the other will so But anyway, that
- 18:02Speaker 3: was the way things worked for a long time. Since
- 18:03Speaker 3: we moved to the new studio, of course, we have
- 18:05Speaker 3: were fully functional once again, and so we can hear
- 18:08Speaker 3: like all everything that goes on while we're while we're talking.
- 18:11Speaker 3: And what I quickly found out is I was really
- 18:13Speaker 3: tired of our expert music, so I had to change it.
- 18:18Speaker 4: It's strange because we've heard that for what like ten years.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Well, well, people that have listened to the podcast have
- 18:22Speaker 3: heard it, and people have listened to it on radio
- 18:24Speaker 3: have heard it, but we haven't heard it because we
- 18:25Speaker 3: were we were in the studio where we were locked
- 18:28Speaker 3: into just the programming audio. Yeah, so anyway, I made
- 18:32Speaker 3: a change on that. So it's a little bit, a
- 18:35Speaker 3: little bit more modern, a little bit more upbeat, you know,
- 18:37Speaker 3: not quite as.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Just a talk show host.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Now you're this job, you know, I mean, I do
- 18:41Speaker 3: I do all I do most of the production on
- 18:44Speaker 3: the station. Yeah. Well, it's funny how I knew this
- 18:48Speaker 3: or what coincidence this is. But had a bunch of
- 18:51Speaker 3: tapes from when I was recorded with cassette, when from
- 18:54Speaker 3: when I was like ten or eleven, when I would
- 18:56Speaker 3: record songs off of the radio. Of course, like everybody
- 18:58Speaker 3: did on boomboxes back in the day. But also I
- 19:00Speaker 3: would uh, I would jock in between songs, so it
- 19:03Speaker 3: was on w c op w coop and uh and
- 19:07Speaker 3: so yeah, I would do like my own little countdown
- 19:08Speaker 3: and stuff. There was all kinds of tapes of stuff
- 19:10Speaker 3: like that, and me doing that, me doing play by
- 19:12Speaker 3: play of video games, like with sports video games, doing
- 19:14Speaker 3: play by play and so I did all kinds of
- 19:16Speaker 3: stuff like that as a kid. So this was the
- 19:18Speaker 3: industry you always I guess I was supposed to be.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I should have been playing doctor as all I was
- 19:24Speaker 3: a kid. More Southern radio guy. I think like chemical
- 19:27Speaker 3: engineer may have been a great thing to play around
- 19:29Speaker 3: with when I was a kid, more Southern radio. If
- 19:32Speaker 3: if a paycheck was the termination. But we have a
- 19:36Speaker 3: lot of stuff to talk. You've been teasing, and I
- 19:39Speaker 3: just heard like a zillion different things at once about Montreal,
- 19:42Speaker 3: and we're going to talk a little bit about We're
- 19:45Speaker 3: want to talk a little bit about uh So I'm
- 19:48Speaker 3: assuming this had something to do with with with teeth. Oh, well,
- 19:51Speaker 3: it did, of course. Okay.
- 19:53Speaker 5: I usually frame my vacation around going on a dental
- 19:57Speaker 5: trip because that's I go on so many dental trips.
- 20:01Speaker 5: Bringing the family just makes sense and we can kind
- 20:03Speaker 5: of make a little mini vacation out of it.
- 20:06Speaker 4: So I went to Montreal.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Doctor Massey and his wife, Doctor Cindy Greeb went, Doctor
- 20:10Speaker 5: Mintry and his wife Heather, and doctor Sammy Greeb and
- 20:13Speaker 5: his wife, Miss Kay went. So there was four of
- 20:17Speaker 5: us that went from Greed Dental Group, which was really neat,
- 20:20Speaker 5: and we actually got to have dinner a couple nights
- 20:23Speaker 5: and the things that we learned were just so neat
- 20:25Speaker 5: because when you go to these meetings. By the way,
- 20:29Speaker 5: the meaning we went to was the Academy of Jeneral
- 20:30Speaker 5: Dentistry the Aged Scientific Session, which was in Montreal, which
- 20:34Speaker 5: I had never been to Canada, nor much less Montreal,
- 20:37Speaker 5: so it was a really cool experience. But what's so
- 20:39Speaker 5: cool about these meetings is there's so many hands on courses.
- 20:43Speaker 5: So there's two types of courses, and there's probably more,
- 20:45Speaker 5: but mainly there's two types of courses. When you go
- 20:47Speaker 5: to these big meetings. There's lecture where you just sit
- 20:49Speaker 5: there and listen, and then you can apply it over
- 20:51Speaker 5: time and you can bring it back to your staff
- 20:54Speaker 5: or your staff can join and listen to that lecture,
- 20:56Speaker 5: but then there's participation or hands on, which I feel
- 20:59Speaker 5: gets a little little more in depth because you're literally
- 21:02Speaker 5: sitting there using your hands, listening on a new technique
- 21:05Speaker 5: or at least being constructed on a new technique or
- 21:08Speaker 5: an old technique that you need more use with. And
- 21:11Speaker 5: then you come out of that with just so many
- 21:14Speaker 5: skills that you didn't even know you needed or you
- 21:16Speaker 5: could have had. For example, I went through six hours
- 21:20Speaker 5: of indodontics, which is root canal's and I know how
- 21:23Speaker 5: to do root canal. I'm pretty good at them, but
- 21:26Speaker 5: I'm not perfect at them. No one is, and so
- 21:28Speaker 5: we're always trying to do a better job, always trying
- 21:31Speaker 5: to get that new technique that's going to make our
- 21:33Speaker 5: patients healthier and better and have a better prognosis long term.
- 21:38Speaker 5: So these hands on techniques that you learn are just
- 21:41Speaker 5: so important. Another course that I took with something called
- 21:44Speaker 5: occlusion or biting and kind of working on how to
- 21:47Speaker 5: diagnose spite issues when it comes to your tempore mandibular
- 21:50Speaker 5: joint with TMD to pro mandipular disorder. A little caveat
- 21:54Speaker 5: when patients say I have TMGM, like me too anyway.
- 21:57Speaker 5: So TMJ is the joint, but TMD is the disorder.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Just a little fun back there. So trying to diagnose
- 22:02Speaker 5: and help people out there is really cool and really neat,
- 22:05Speaker 5: and that's really probably the most complex thing you can
- 22:07Speaker 5: do in dentistri is dealing.
- 22:09Speaker 4: With jaw issues.
- 22:10Speaker 5: But that was really cool that I got to bring
- 22:12Speaker 5: my family real quickly something that they noticed. My wife
- 22:16Speaker 5: was at lunch with my children as I was at a.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I was at a course.
- 22:21Speaker 5: They were eating at the restaurant in our hotel by
- 22:23Speaker 5: a window, and all of a sudden, some cop cars
- 22:26Speaker 5: come by, and then after the cop cars come what
- 22:29Speaker 5: my wife assumed were shirtless men on bicycles, and then
- 22:32Speaker 5: as they turned the corner, they weren't just shirtless, they
- 22:35Speaker 5: weren't wearing much of anything.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Bicycle yes, on bicycles, any special seats because that doesn't
- 22:42Speaker 3: feel great, and so.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Apparently it was World Naked Bicycle Day or so. I
- 22:45Speaker 4: don't even know, but my seven year old was just like.
- 22:48Speaker 5: It was the craziest thing she's experienced in her life.
- 22:52Speaker 5: And so you go to watch your all and you
- 22:53Speaker 5: see things you didn't expect. But certainly that was the
- 22:57Speaker 5: highlight of their experience. My experience was more CEU oriented.
- 23:00Speaker 3: My daughter would my daughter would also find that she's
- 23:02Speaker 3: seven to she would find that the funniest thing she's
- 23:04Speaker 3: ever seen. Yeah, but in my adult mind, I really
- 23:08Speaker 3: can't imagine how that's comfortable for anyone to not that
- 23:12Speaker 3: that's what we're talking about, but uh, comfort somehow it
- 23:16Speaker 3: can't be. It can't be comfortable. There's just a lot
- 23:19Speaker 3: of sliding around. Is that healthy? But but and uh,
- 23:32Speaker 3: and in all seriousness and talking about traveling to Canada
- 23:35Speaker 3: and going through another seminar with continuing education, I mean
- 23:39Speaker 3: that really just it's part of the whole of what
- 23:41Speaker 3: you do anyway. I mean, you're always looking for better,
- 23:44Speaker 3: better avenues, better ways to do things, more efficient ways.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Ultimately efficiency can lead to cost reductions, you know. I mean,
- 23:50Speaker 3: all of these things kind of one plays into another
- 23:52Speaker 3: to another. And uh, and the stuff that's going on
- 23:55Speaker 3: and what you guys do is actually pretty exciting. I
- 23:57Speaker 3: mean there seems to be certainly during the course where
- 23:59Speaker 3: we been doing this show, it seems like every couple
- 24:02Speaker 3: times a year, you guys come on and talk about
- 24:03Speaker 3: something that's relatively new that's coming up. That's really cool
- 24:06Speaker 3: that you can do in your offices. And this industry
- 24:08Speaker 3: seems to be really finding ways to help patients a
- 24:12Speaker 3: lot to bridge some of these gaps. There's puns everywhere
- 24:15Speaker 3: this morning, but to bridge some of these gaps when
- 24:17Speaker 3: it comes to when it comes to dental hygiene, dental care,
- 24:20Speaker 3: because some of the stuff can be you know, can
- 24:23Speaker 3: start getting a little bit expensive. But through the care
- 24:26Speaker 3: of a dental office that will work with you a
- 24:29Speaker 3: little bit, and your insurance and also these emerging technologies
- 24:31Speaker 3: and things like that, more and more people have access
- 24:33Speaker 3: to get some level of help to make it more comfortable.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Absolutely sure, And I love what Carson was saying that
- 24:38Speaker 4: he went and he says, hey, yeah, I've done you know,
- 24:40Speaker 4: hundreds of root canals. I'm good at it. But I
- 24:43Speaker 4: was still taking this course to learn how to be better.
- 24:46Speaker 4: And that's the key for these continuing educations courses we
- 24:50Speaker 4: go to we don't we go there. We do learn
- 24:51Speaker 4: about new techniques, the latest and greatest, but we also
- 24:55Speaker 4: what we call hone our skills and improve upon things
- 25:00Speaker 4: we may already do. But we always want to come
- 25:03Speaker 4: back with what we call a pearl, some one or
- 25:06Speaker 4: two pearls from you know, a week long event is
- 25:09Speaker 4: worth it for us to better care for our patients,
- 25:12Speaker 4: to make the work that we do more successful, more efficient,
- 25:16Speaker 4: and also to learn how to run our offices in
- 25:19Speaker 4: many other ways, not just not just learning the skills.
- 25:21Speaker 4: So it's it's also worth noting that doctor Henley and
- 25:26Speaker 4: was at the Academy of General Dentistry meeting and he
- 25:29Speaker 4: is a trustee of the Academy of General Dentistry, which
- 25:32Speaker 4: is you know that one of the highest levels of
- 25:34Speaker 4: leadership in that academy. Doctor Greeb has has done that
- 25:37Speaker 4: in the past as well, So we're very proud of
- 25:40Speaker 4: our West Virginia representation there and being national leaders that
- 25:44Speaker 4: they are in such a in such a prestigious academy.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Really it's worth noting too.
- 25:49Speaker 5: And so what I got for that was I had
- 25:52Speaker 5: I got to be a marshal during the convocation and
- 25:56Speaker 5: direct traffic to four hundred new fellows and masters in
- 25:59Speaker 5: LLSA in the convocation ceremony. Just standing there and pointing
- 26:02Speaker 5: it was the most fun four hours of my life. No,
- 26:05Speaker 5: it really was an honor. But you know, sometimes being
- 26:08Speaker 5: a leader, you kind of get to do stuff that
- 26:10Speaker 5: you know is it is what it is?
- 26:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Sometimes what has to be done has to
- 26:16Speaker 3: be done. It's not always the most fun thing.
- 26:18Speaker 2: What's that?
- 26:19Speaker 5: So when I got my fellowship, I think it was
- 26:22Speaker 5: just four years ago, twenty twenty one in Austin, Texas,
- 26:25Speaker 5: at the scientific session, we covered that. Yeah, yeah, so
- 26:30Speaker 5: I was honored whenever that happened because doctor Sammy, well,
- 26:34Speaker 5: doctor Bruce Cassis was the current AGD president from West
- 26:37Speaker 5: Virginia in at the scientific session in Texas, and then
- 26:41Speaker 5: doctor Sammy Greb and doctor Stephen Greb were marshalls for
- 26:44Speaker 5: that convocation just kind of what I just did, and
- 26:47Speaker 5: so it was really neat was I was the last
- 26:49Speaker 5: fellow to cross the stage and get my fellowship pin
- 26:52Speaker 5: in my and I think they kind of put a
- 26:54Speaker 5: pin over you. It's like attached to a ribbon and
- 26:56Speaker 5: the spin is something that you put on your jacket
- 26:58Speaker 5: and things like that. Well, then all of a sudden,
- 27:01Speaker 5: doctor sam and doctor Stephen ran on stage with me
- 27:04Speaker 5: and we took a photo with Bruce and it was
- 27:06Speaker 5: four of us taking a photo. I think I was
- 27:08Speaker 5: the only one that had four people in the photo.
- 27:10Speaker 5: Everyone's like, who is this guy? How does he get
- 27:12Speaker 5: to do it. Well if you if you're from West Virginia,
- 27:14Speaker 5: you know, you get to do cool things. It's just
- 27:16Speaker 5: kind of cool bringing that full circle. Yeah, that is
- 27:19Speaker 5: very neat, and I like the fact that we covered that.
- 27:21Speaker 5: When I remember telling the story, I can't believe it
- 27:23Speaker 5: was four years ago. I'm sure that you have that
- 27:25Speaker 5: same disconnect, but I can't believe that was four years ago.
- 27:27Speaker 4: But yeah, this is the academy there they that is
- 27:30Speaker 4: based and founded upon high quality continuing education and UH.
- 27:35Speaker 4: And then it's it is an honor to UH to
- 27:38Speaker 4: for so many of us to have been leaders in
- 27:40Speaker 4: that academy is the second largest UH dental organization in
- 27:44Speaker 4: the United States, if not the world. So so we're
- 27:47Speaker 4: we're happy to be involved and honored to help lead.
- 27:49Speaker 3: I always enjoyed doing these programs. Let me get the
- 27:51Speaker 3: information out again. We're starting to wrap up the show.
- 27:53Speaker 3: We have a couple of minutes left here this morning.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I want to make sure that you have all the info.
- 27:56Speaker 3: We covered a lot of things here this morning, and
- 27:58Speaker 3: I know that can get a little bit dense, especially
- 28:00Speaker 3: if you have questions about your dental hygiene. And I
- 28:02Speaker 3: understand a lot of these things are not conducive to
- 28:04Speaker 3: making phone calls on the radio, So you're more than
- 28:07Speaker 3: welcome to give the GREEB Dental Group a call. And
- 28:08Speaker 3: lucky for you, there's an easy phone number to call.
- 28:10Speaker 3: You can call one hundred Great Care one hundred Great
- 28:12Speaker 3: Care that will take you to a central location that
- 28:14Speaker 3: will route you to the location closest to you. That's Pocas,
- 28:17Speaker 3: South Charles and Cross Lanes, Saint Aumsta's Valley in Kanall City,
- 28:20Speaker 3: all the different locations of GREEB Dental Group. Doctor Stephen
- 28:23Speaker 3: is from the South Charleston location, Doctor Carson is from
- 28:25Speaker 3: the Kanall City location, Doctor Mitchrie is in Cross Lanes,
- 28:28Speaker 3: and uh great doctors spread throughout the valley. So if
- 28:31Speaker 3: you want to call one hunter Great Care, you can
- 28:33Speaker 3: get routed to the closest office to you. And the
- 28:36Speaker 3: phone number is or the phone numbers one hundred Great caare.
- 28:39Speaker 3: The web address is a GREEB Dentalgroup dot com. That's
- 28:41Speaker 3: g h A r e B GREEB Dentalgroup dot com.
- 28:44Speaker 3: You can find out all kinds of great information and
- 28:46Speaker 3: a really slick website. Always I've always impressed with the
- 28:48Speaker 3: website when I bring it up.
- 28:51Speaker 4: It is a little distracting, but it is.
- 28:53Speaker 3: It's very nice. It's yeah, it's got it's got some
- 28:56Speaker 3: loot video in the background. It's very good. But anyway,
- 28:58Speaker 3: greeb Dentalgroup dot com. You can find all the information
- 29:00Speaker 3: there that you may need, as well as contact information
- 29:03Speaker 3: and all of that good stuff. And it's it's just
- 29:05Speaker 3: important for UH, for folks to understand as regardless of
- 29:09Speaker 3: where they are in their dental hygiene journey. Maybe they've
- 29:11Speaker 3: been away from a doctor for a long time or
- 29:13Speaker 3: haven't seen one a lot, they have some issues that
- 29:16Speaker 3: they've been a little nervous to get addressed, or they're embarrassed,
- 29:21Speaker 3: whatever the situation may be. Your first step to getting better,
- 29:24Speaker 3: to not feeling embarrassed anymore, to feeling better about your teeth,
- 29:27Speaker 3: you got to go see somebody. You got to go
- 29:29Speaker 3: get evaluated. And it's probably not as bad as you think.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Everybody has these these traditional images in their head. We
- 29:36Speaker 3: talked about root canals and stuff all the time. It's
- 29:38Speaker 3: not as bad as you think, you know, and go
- 29:40Speaker 3: in and get evaluated, and I think you would be
- 29:43Speaker 3: amazed at how much better you would feel on the
- 29:45Speaker 3: back end of those things, Because if you go through
- 29:46Speaker 3: life uncomfortable with your smile, with your with your teeth,
- 29:50Speaker 3: with gaps here, whatever it might be, that's a that's
- 29:54Speaker 3: a quality of life's issue issue, and you can address that.
- 29:56Speaker 3: There are things that can be done. You have a
- 29:57Speaker 3: lot of tools in your toolbox for sure. And I mean,
- 29:59Speaker 3: come in have a conversation with us. Just spoke to
- 30:01Speaker 3: a patient yesterday that came in and was just very embarrassed,
- 30:05Speaker 3: so I really don't want don't want you touching anything,
- 30:08Speaker 3: you know, and was nervous, and I said, that's fine.
- 30:11Speaker 4: We're just going to take a brief look today. That's
- 30:13Speaker 4: all we're going to do. Take a look around. We'll
- 30:15Speaker 4: have a discussion with you. Sat down and talked with
- 30:17Speaker 4: her for a very long time, hearing her concerns, and
- 30:20Speaker 4: then we created a game plan and she left very
- 30:23Speaker 4: comfortable in the path we're going to take and excited
- 30:26Speaker 4: to get it done and like you say, to improve
- 30:28Speaker 4: her quality of life that you know, I wasn't able
- 30:31Speaker 4: to eat what she wanted, having digestive issues also confidence
- 30:34Speaker 4: and of course presentation to others and smiling. So we
- 30:37Speaker 4: want to we're here to take care of those issues
- 30:39Speaker 4: and do them comfortably for it.
- 30:41Speaker 3: And have that kind of conversation and to take that step.
- 30:44Speaker 3: It is a huge step for a lot of a
- 30:45Speaker 3: lot of different people and to put them in ease
- 30:47Speaker 3: in doing that. But it really is something that you
- 30:50Speaker 3: can get addressed. If it's something that you don't feel
- 30:52Speaker 3: feel great about. Now, all you gotta do is ask
- 30:54Speaker 3: a couple questions and see where you can get and
- 30:56Speaker 3: and you might find yourself in a better situation relatively
- 30:58Speaker 3: soon down the line.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Absolutely, yeah, we're happy to do it.
- 31:02Speaker 5: And I think it does help. Whenever you walk in
- 31:03Speaker 5: you always see a smiling face. Yes, I get told
- 31:07Speaker 5: that all the time that I like you, doctor, but
- 31:10Speaker 5: I love your staff, and I'm well, yes, because obviously
- 31:13Speaker 5: my staff are amazing, right, yeah, and I thank you
- 31:16Speaker 5: for liking me. But truly without my staff, without doctor
- 31:18Speaker 5: Stevens staff, or any of our staff and our six locations,
- 31:22Speaker 5: we could not do what we'd do. And we're so
- 31:24Speaker 5: thankful that we get to work with such lovely men
- 31:26Speaker 5: and women that make our patients feel comfortable and feel
- 31:30Speaker 5: confident that they're going to be taken care of.
- 31:33Speaker 3: One of the things that happens to me on a
- 31:35Speaker 3: much lower scale in my job is I'll have people
- 31:37Speaker 3: that come in and this week is a great example,
- 31:39Speaker 3: since I'm covering for our creative director who's out this week.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Folks will come in and it's not typically on the radio,
- 31:43Speaker 3: and they own a small business or something, and they
- 31:45Speaker 3: want to cut their own commercial or a piece in
- 31:47Speaker 3: their own commercial, and so they'll record a line or
- 31:49Speaker 3: a couple of lines or several lines on a thirty
- 31:51Speaker 3: second commercial. They'll listen back to it and they're really
- 31:54Speaker 3: embarrassed about how they sound. They shouldn't be number one,
- 31:57Speaker 3: because everybody doesn't like the sound of their own voice
- 31:59Speaker 3: the first time to hear it. And sometimes they're embarrassed
- 32:02Speaker 3: because the guy that does radio, if we're a living
- 32:04Speaker 3: is in the room for him, and it's like, oh
- 32:05Speaker 3: my goodness, so what do you think it's I've heard
- 32:08Speaker 3: it all. It doesn't matter. I mean, we've all been
- 32:10Speaker 3: on that journey. And some people complain about how I talk.
- 32:12Speaker 3: It's not you know, it's not anything that's a big
- 32:15Speaker 3: deal to us as a professional on the radio end
- 32:17Speaker 3: of things. For Dennis, for people that are embarrassed about
- 32:21Speaker 3: what might be going on in their mouth, it's not
- 32:23Speaker 3: like you haven't seen it. You've seen it all. There's
- 32:26Speaker 3: nothing that you can really be shocked a boy at
- 32:28Speaker 3: this point. So if you have one of those barriers
- 32:30Speaker 3: where you're like, man, I'm going to go in and
- 32:32Speaker 3: I'm going to open up my mouth to the doctor
- 32:33Speaker 3: and they're.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Like, oh, hold on, it's calling the experts. We have
- 32:36Speaker 2: no idea.
- 32:36Speaker 3: What's that's not going to happen to you. That's not
- 32:38Speaker 3: going to happen. They've seen it all. So if that's
- 32:41Speaker 3: one of your barriers, don't worry about that.
- 32:42Speaker 4: That's right. That's a great point, and very happy to
- 32:47Speaker 4: put those patients at ease because they do come in
- 32:50Speaker 4: very embarrassed and saying things like that, I'll you know,
- 32:53Speaker 4: I haven't seen anything this bad or you know, I
- 32:55Speaker 4: hate to even show you, like, well, this is what
- 32:57Speaker 4: we do. This is our job, and it's like you're
- 32:59Speaker 4: comparing it to you know, this is what I do,
- 33:00Speaker 4: listening to to these voices all day and you can't
- 33:03Speaker 4: surprise me with anything. Yeah, we were very very wide
- 33:09Speaker 4: varied experience on you know, seeing many things in the
- 33:13Speaker 4: mouth that that we're happy to figure out the path forward.
- 33:17Speaker 4: That's the thing that we're trying to do to get
- 33:19Speaker 4: them to that end goal of being comfortable and confident
- 33:23Speaker 4: in their smile and and the way that they function
- 33:25Speaker 4: because now we're seeing more digestive issues too. It's it's
- 33:28Speaker 4: very fascinating that we're we're joining with the medical community,
- 33:32Speaker 4: uh in many ways where they're referring patients to us
- 33:35Speaker 4: to say, you know, this patient's having a lot of
- 33:37Speaker 4: you know, intestinal issues that we need to we need
- 33:40Speaker 4: to get them chewing their food better. And and that's
- 33:42Speaker 4: that's one small element too.
- 33:44Speaker 3: There's a there's another show that I listened to. It's
- 33:46Speaker 3: a science based show. It's hosted by several different people,
- 33:48Speaker 3: but I think about you guys every time that I
- 33:50Speaker 3: listen to the show, or very frequently, because one of
- 33:52Speaker 3: the co hosts on the show is obsessed with their
- 33:55Speaker 3: teeth and and they talk and they relate a lot
- 33:57Speaker 3: of medical science based stuff that they cover, like just
- 34:00Speaker 3: in general talking about science science based news stories and
- 34:03Speaker 3: stuff like that, but he always ties it back into it.
- 34:06Speaker 3: The time that I discovered that the whole my whole
- 34:09Speaker 3: body health is related to my teeth was the big
- 34:12Speaker 3: moment of my wife. And so this guy talks so
- 34:14Speaker 3: much about how his teeth health is drives the rest
- 34:16Speaker 3: of his health and how it's give him on this
- 34:19Speaker 3: healthy journey. That's okay, we've talked about on this program before.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Those things do all work in concert together.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Doctor Oz had that big epiphany as well when he
- 34:28Speaker 4: was going through all of the different ways to improve
- 34:32Speaker 4: improve your health, and it was the one thing that
- 34:36Speaker 4: would make him live a little longer statistically that he
- 34:39Speaker 4: didn't do his floss every day, so he started doing that.
- 34:42Speaker 4: I think was doctor Sanjay Gupt on CNN some similar
- 34:45Speaker 4: type of thing. So it's it definitely affects everything.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Doctor Stephen, appreciate your time this week. Thank you so much.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Doctor Carson you as well, Thank you so much. See
- 34:52Speaker 3: you back here next month.
- 34:52Speaker 2: See later.
- 34:53Speaker 3: GARB Dental Group garib Dentalgroup dot com. Have a great
- 34:55Speaker 3: day everyone, and thanks for listening to five adwc HS
- 34:58Speaker 3: The Voice of Charleston.
