- October 26 Take Courage—my Spirit Remains Topic: Courage. Scripture: Haggai 2:4–5 4 Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,” says Yahweh. “Be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,” says Yahweh, “and work, for I am with you,” says Yahweh of Armies. 5 This is the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit lived among you. “Don’t be afraid.” Context The rebuilt temple looks unimpressive compared with memories of the former one. God addresses discouraged leaders and people with repeated courage: be strong, work, remember the covenant, and do not fear because His presence remains. Let It Shape Your Life Discouragement loves comparison. The new thing gets measured against the old thing at its best, and suddenly today’s faithful work feels small. Haggai speaks into exactly that atmosphere. God does not tell the people to pretend the building looks bigger than it does. He tells them why they can keep working anyway: “I am with you… my Spirit lived among you. Don’t be afraid.” Courage is not manufactured by exaggerating your results. It grows from remembering that God’s presence is not measured by how impressive the project appears. Maybe you are rebuilding after loss, restarting after failure, or creating something that feels smaller than what came before. Do the faithful work in front of you. Small does not mean abandoned. The comparison may be loud, but it is not the only voice in the room. Think About It What are you tempted to dismiss as “too small” simply because you keep comparing it with an earlier season or someone else’s result?
