- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart Podcasts.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Awesome episode of NHL Unscripted coming up as we're talking
- 0:23Speaker 1: about some wild series right now.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Whaler's Mafia is alive and well.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Joel Quin goes back in the league news involving a Lesnar,
- 0:31Speaker 1: David mammett'skn a new movie, and Thomas Hickey, one of
- 0:33Speaker 1: our friends from NHL Network and Amazon Prime, has some
- 0:36Speaker 1: great stories not only but his days with the Islanders
- 0:38Speaker 1: at Little Limarell, but also his own PLAF memories and
- 0:40Speaker 1: what he's seen from the second round. We start through
- 0:42Speaker 1: JD in a way that I haven't started ever before
- 0:44Speaker 1: in the podcast with organized Religion. I don't mean to
- 0:47Speaker 1: start on behalf of all Muslims are have tow speaking
- 0:49Speaker 1: all we have all Jews. But has there ever been
- 0:51Speaker 1: a more popular pope than this pope right now? This
- 0:53Speaker 1: guy's unbelievable, the new Pope Leo Chicago guy sports fan,
- 0:57Speaker 1: huge White Sox fan.
- 0:59Speaker 2: What do you think? I think he might be a
- 1:00Speaker 2: huge Blackhawks fan as well.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I think someone's going to start throwing sports questions out
- 1:03Speaker 1: of hey, Kane Taves, Pope, is that a house.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And day or what.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Who's the new Pope.
- 1:08Speaker 1: The new Pope is a huge white Sox man. It's
- 1:12Speaker 1: the first ever American they announced, they announced the Conclave
- 1:16Speaker 1: conclive as you play, I'm just messing with you.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Story in the world. People are loving the fact there's
- 1:24Speaker 2: an American pope.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Yeah, Chicago, you gotta love a little shy town stand up.
- 1:30Speaker 3: No, I don't.
- 1:31Speaker 4: This is the weirdest year of the last two years
- 1:34Speaker 4: of life. Just Chicago, pulpe deep dish in the Vatican,
- 1:38Speaker 4: Lou mal Nadi's on.
- 1:40Speaker 2: The Yes, Lou Man's up.
- 1:41Speaker 3: In the worst pizza ever.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It's just too thick, right deep.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I mean it's it's pizza soup, Yeah, pizza soup bread. Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And then we get to the hockey leave some Panthers. Man,
- 1:52Speaker 1: what a staunch defensive effort. But the defending Stanley Cup champions.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I was, I swear to got you. It was three
- 1:57Speaker 1: to one in Game three and I'm texting by Toronto
- 2:00Speaker 1: buddies like, well maybe this is the year. Like if
- 2:02Speaker 1: you get past the Florida Panthers defending Stale Cup chas,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I like your road now one of the Canes and capitals,
- 2:07Speaker 1: who know just to even be in at Stanley Cup
- 2:08Speaker 1: file as you Toronto in that moment would be amazing.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And then what happens. Florida wakes up. They bounced back
- 2:14Speaker 1: up four to three. Leaves do fource over time, but
- 2:16Speaker 1: eventually Florida does win it. And then we just watched
- 2:18Speaker 1: together this game four a staunch defensive effort to nothing.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But Brosky was excellent some timely saves. Our buddy John
- 2:25Speaker 1: Forestland on the call along with Shane Nighty. After two
- 2:27Speaker 1: periods fours he was saying, you know, wolve's the story
- 2:29Speaker 1: right now. Twenty eight saves, but the story also became
- 2:32Speaker 1: some nasty play oel hit interference two minutes Eddieowys saking
- 2:36Speaker 1: the broadcast could have been five minutes. You see dome
- 2:38Speaker 1: at the end with a nasty hit, feisty series. Bottom
- 2:41Speaker 1: line is this we're all square after four.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a kind of a That was just
- 2:47Speaker 4: a Florida Panthers old school game from last year. It
- 2:50Speaker 4: just they kind of they've really been investing in the
- 2:54Speaker 4: in the hitting and physicality on the on the d
- 2:57Speaker 4: man like you know, Chris tannev and I feel like
- 2:58Speaker 4: Morgan Riley and and and Jake McCabe. They're they're really
- 3:03Speaker 4: putting a beating on them. And the best part about
- 3:05Speaker 4: that game tonight, I think for the Florida Panthers they
- 3:07Speaker 4: can take with them is the neutral zone. I thought
- 3:10Speaker 4: the neutral zone was tight. They weren't letting Toronto come
- 3:14Speaker 4: through it all and they created that turnover that leads
- 3:16Speaker 4: to the Sam Benacal. So you know, Joseph Will, you
- 3:19Speaker 4: said it, Joseph Will get him a beer because he
- 3:21Speaker 4: was kicking early. And you know, if I'm looking at Toronto,
- 3:24Speaker 4: they just looked frustrated and they looked like Toronto of old.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Too many penalties, you know, they're trying to It happens
- 3:32Speaker 4: the past two years or even you can go back
- 3:34Speaker 4: three years with Florida. It happens all the time. They
- 3:37Speaker 4: just kind of drag you into their their game. You
- 3:39Speaker 4: start getting dirty with them, you start taking penalties, and
- 3:42Speaker 4: they love it. That's where they live, That's where they
- 3:44Speaker 4: want to be, is where it's a really ugly, gritty game.
- 3:46Speaker 4: And I feel like they just kind of pulled Toronto
- 3:48Speaker 4: the last two games, especially after you know, giving up
- 3:51Speaker 4: the three to one lead in Game three, they just
- 3:53Speaker 4: pulled them back into the deep water a little bit.
- 3:55Speaker 4: So I think Toronto needs a reset again. The one
- 3:58Speaker 4: thing Chris, you know, we had Chris Pronger an Angel
- 4:01Speaker 4: Network and he said, he said, listen, you hold home, sir,
- 4:04Speaker 4: you win at home. That's what they're supposed to do.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Florida did it. Everybody thought Toronto was just going to
- 4:09Speaker 4: roll over them after two games. It's now a two
- 4:11Speaker 4: two series. You go back Toronto. Toronto's got a whole
- 4:13Speaker 4: serve now and just regroup and hopefully Craig Barubay can
- 4:17Speaker 4: get his team playing back the right way, because right now,
- 4:19Speaker 4: last last tonight is was or this game four was
- 4:24Speaker 4: just not indicative of the team that Toronto has been
- 4:26Speaker 4: all year. It was they looked frustrated, They look frazzled.
- 4:29Speaker 1: So how do you do it when you're a team
- 4:31Speaker 1: that's frustrated? You have this, you know, overwhelming offensive talent
- 4:34Speaker 1: in Matthews Marner and Neelander Taviars.
- 4:35Speaker 2: How do you get how do you get rolling?
- 4:37Speaker 5: Again?
- 4:38Speaker 4: Well, just if you look there just three guys stagnant
- 4:41Speaker 4: on the far blue. They're trying to make these little
- 4:43Speaker 4: tip plays through the middle and through the neutral zone.
- 4:45Speaker 4: And I think Florida is a good job of staying
- 4:47Speaker 4: on top. So you got to kind of build a
- 4:48Speaker 4: little bit more speed. It looked like Florida sat back
- 4:51Speaker 4: and kind of waited for Toronto. So if I'm them,
- 4:53Speaker 4: I kind of build the rush a little bit more.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Get some guys swinging behind Willy Andander, Marner, William Kneelander
- 4:59Speaker 4: and Marner. I know you want to play north and
- 5:01Speaker 4: play quick, get it in on the for check. But
- 5:03Speaker 4: you know when Toronts, you know, not getting the four
- 5:06Speaker 4: check going, and they're just allowing Florida to break out
- 5:08Speaker 4: the puck as well as turnpucks over the neutral zone.
- 5:10Speaker 3: It's just not a good recipe.
- 5:12Speaker 4: And Florida just eats that shit up because then they
- 5:15Speaker 4: just start going downhill, they start taking liberties, cheap shots,
- 5:18Speaker 4: and and then yeah, and then.
- 5:20Speaker 3: You see what happens.
- 5:21Speaker 4: So for Toronto, I feel like you have to get
- 5:24Speaker 4: back to your game, get back to home ice. You know,
- 5:27Speaker 4: you can hang your hat that Joseph Old is really
- 5:29Speaker 4: playing well coming in in relief of Anthony Stolar's, but
- 5:33Speaker 4: you just need to get everybody back on track now.
- 5:35Speaker 4: It needs to be just a little bit and and
- 5:37Speaker 4: number you know, listen number sixteen of all the points
- 5:39Speaker 4: I've just made is stay out of the stay out
- 5:41Speaker 4: of the box. You can't four penalties in the first period.
- 5:44Speaker 4: You gave them all the momentum, and it took you
- 5:46Speaker 4: two periods to kind of get back on track. I
- 5:49Speaker 4: thought they had a good push in the third, but
- 5:50Speaker 4: it's too late. By then, you're kind of it just
- 5:53Speaker 4: seemed like Florida had settled in and and I mean, listen,
- 5:56Speaker 4: the other thing too, is you're playing a hell of
- 5:58Speaker 4: a goalie in Sergei Bobrovski, and you got to find
- 6:01Speaker 4: ways to get to them. And I thought it was
- 6:03Speaker 4: a little too late before they started getting in on Bobrovsky,
- 6:06Speaker 4: and he was kind of warm and ready.
- 6:08Speaker 3: To play hockey. And that's what you get too, too
- 6:10Speaker 3: back to.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You witched after the first two games.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Pebroski was not looking like Bobrovski esque, but certainly much
- 6:16Speaker 1: better back in home right now, and you mentioned Woll
- 6:19Speaker 1: thirty five saves.
- 6:19Speaker 2: He's got his group back. In the meantime.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Miko Ranton has done it again already had an assistant
- 6:23Speaker 1: Game three against the Jets. He's said Patrovicks game winning
- 6:26Speaker 1: the third pri then scored a ridiculous insurance goal forty
- 6:29Speaker 1: nine seconds later, Stars in up to to one against
- 6:31Speaker 1: the Winnipeg Jets Patrovicks Winter technley was a kick, but
- 6:35Speaker 1: officials a lot of after a lengthy review when they
- 6:38Speaker 1: ruled the Jets goalie Connor Halibuck put the puck into
- 6:40Speaker 1: his own net. Once again, much of the focus on Ranson.
- 6:43Speaker 1: We'll get to Hellibuck in a second first off. Ranton
- 6:45Speaker 1: a playoff for the Ages, seventeen points down his last
- 6:48Speaker 1: six games.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 6:51Speaker 4: We just did a we just did a clip of
- 6:53Speaker 4: random last last last video or last you know pod
- 6:57Speaker 4: we did and again once again Miko Ranton and just
- 7:00Speaker 4: playing herculean effort. And you know, I don't know if
- 7:03Speaker 4: it was more or the lack of Connor Hellibuck on
- 7:06Speaker 4: the road, but you know, I think and I just
- 7:09Speaker 4: got to touch this quick. That was way too long
- 7:11Speaker 4: of a review. That was the most non kick. He
- 7:15Speaker 4: kicked it from behind the goal and Hellibuck swats it
- 7:17Speaker 4: in and it took him about forty five minutes. But yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 4: I just think it's it's you can't get any momentum
- 7:26Speaker 4: if you're Winnipeg when you get on the road, Like
- 7:29Speaker 4: I thought, this is a perfect game for Hellibuck to
- 7:31Speaker 4: stand on his head. The Dallas was pushing, you know,
- 7:34Speaker 4: they're getting opportunities, and he just looked shaky again. And
- 7:37Speaker 4: just these these goals that shouldn't be going in on
- 7:40Speaker 4: a goalie of his size. It's just not something that
- 7:44Speaker 4: gives you a lot of confidence, and I feel like
- 7:46Speaker 4: it just frustrates your team. It slows them down. And
- 7:49Speaker 4: I mean, listen, Dallas did what they need to do.
- 7:51Speaker 4: I thought Jake Ottinger was fantastic in nets back there.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And like you said, Miko Ranton, is you look at
- 7:57Speaker 4: this trade and it's getting worse and worse by the game.
- 8:00Speaker 4: The further Dallas goes into this series, it's getting worse
- 8:03Speaker 4: and worse in the sense just to the fact that
- 8:06Speaker 4: Colorado was gonna have to play him for the next
- 8:08Speaker 4: twenty five years over longest contract is is gott It
- 8:11Speaker 4: just it's gotta sting so bad.
- 8:14Speaker 1: How about nasm Casuret, former teammate, tweeting out right, number one,
- 8:17Speaker 1: you always to keep the dogs hashtag number ninety six.
- 8:20Speaker 2: He's been awesome.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Speaking of big bodies, Connor Hellibucks so he looked like
- 8:24Speaker 1: he'd figured it out. After shutout in his previous start.
- 8:27Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, he was talking to Scott
- 8:28Speaker 1: Opost game was yep, I had some things to work through.
- 8:30Speaker 1: We found it now and back in my groove. So
- 8:33Speaker 1: much for that. He now say seven to seventy two
- 8:35Speaker 1: save percentage on the road so far this playoff, and
- 8:38Speaker 1: his save percentage of the last two postseason six games
- 8:41Speaker 1: eight oh one on the road. How do you solve
- 8:44Speaker 1: a goalie who can pitch a shutout at home and
- 8:46Speaker 1: then all of a sudden it looks so poorous on
- 8:48Speaker 1: the road.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Do you just play Eric Comray on the road and
- 8:51Speaker 4: just hope the hope for the best. At this point,
- 8:54Speaker 4: just play him on the road and hope for the best.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I would just pray if I'm winning PAG next game,
- 9:00Speaker 4: being like, listen, just take a swing here, Eric Comery,
- 9:04Speaker 4: you're getting the start.
- 9:06Speaker 3: You're getting the start. Sorry, Connor Wiz at home.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I I his third Desty.
- 9:12Speaker 1: He's gonna win the heart and the guy can't win
- 9:14Speaker 1: unless it's a Canada Life Center.
- 9:15Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 9:16Speaker 3: It's it's it's crazy.
- 9:18Speaker 4: The way he gets so small, he gets so compact,
- 9:21Speaker 4: and he's a big guy. He relies on his structure.
- 9:23Speaker 4: He's not a goalie that's gonna like make any acrobatic saves.
- 9:26Speaker 4: But for some reason, you get on the road and
- 9:29Speaker 4: he gets so small on the net and you look
- 9:31Speaker 4: at that the ranting and goal he literally drops his
- 9:34Speaker 4: stick as he's sliding across. And then the next goal,
- 9:36Speaker 4: I think the fifth goal, he's completely out of his net.
- 9:39Speaker 4: He's not even making an effort for an empty net goal.
- 9:42Speaker 4: It's just like, oh, yeah, here you go. And it's
- 9:43Speaker 4: just kind of I don't get it, because he's so
- 9:46Speaker 4: when he's on, he's so good, but just for some reason,
- 9:50Speaker 4: he has the yips on the road and he's saying
- 9:52Speaker 4: all the right things to the media, but you know,
- 9:54Speaker 4: proof is in the pudding right now and he needs
- 9:56Speaker 4: to he needs to figure it out because if they
- 9:59Speaker 4: go down, man, they lose this next game.
- 10:01Speaker 3: It's it's I'm worried.
- 10:03Speaker 4: And but again, I think we took Dallas here before
- 10:07Speaker 4: round two, so you know, we're looking good and Dallas
- 10:10Speaker 4: is looking really good. Sons Miro Hayskin, and so if
- 10:13Speaker 4: they by any chance, I don't know how hurt he is,
- 10:15Speaker 4: but if they get him back, I mean, this is
- 10:17Speaker 4: kind of the team to beat.
- 10:18Speaker 2: No, I'm with you and I think Game four is
- 10:20Speaker 2: and must win for Winnipeg.
- 10:21Speaker 1: You go down three win to Dallas, You're not gonna
- 10:23Speaker 1: win that series after with Dallas against.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Coge Cott jury. Yeah, it's been great.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Vegas and the Oilers again.
- 10:28Speaker 1: You and I will never count out the Oilers again
- 10:30Speaker 1: after going up two zero in this series in which
- 10:31Speaker 1: both of us call the Golden Knights, and in Game
- 10:33Speaker 1: three again.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Spirited finished tied late in the third.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Vegas is missing mark Stone for much of the night,
- 10:39Speaker 1: a great chance to go three to zero. Riley Smith
- 10:41Speaker 1: cors is second the night, less than a second remaining
- 10:44Speaker 1: a buzzer beater.
- 10:45Speaker 2: You see that in the NBA.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Do not see that hockey point four seconds left, poor
- 10:49Speaker 1: Leon Dreysel trying to make the play, and Edmonton's goaltending
- 10:52Speaker 1: is the soap opera pickard out with an injury, Skinners
- 10:54Speaker 1: back in the craze pickards day to day.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Skinner's going to start game four.
- 10:58Speaker 1: You were talking early, had that great set of a
- 10:59Speaker 1: pickard five and zero, like great fear of the playoffs,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and now listen, Oilers are still the driver. He throw
- 11:04Speaker 1: two winning game fours at home, but Vegas Holy Salvation
- 11:08Speaker 1: in that win.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Oh, it was a Riley Smith legacy game right there,
- 11:11Speaker 4: he was he was. I mean, you saw Rangers fans
- 11:15Speaker 4: on Twitter being like we I didn't see him skate
- 11:17Speaker 4: that fast once all season with the Rangers, and then
- 11:19Speaker 4: he looks like the.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Youngest guy out there.
- 11:21Speaker 4: I mean that that play he made on the winning
- 11:24Speaker 4: goal was just the wherewithal to have that much patience
- 11:29Speaker 4: knowing there's only like three seconds left, and then and
- 11:32Speaker 4: again that that was a great play by him, but
- 11:36Speaker 4: that defensive that whole played defensively from the time he
- 11:39Speaker 4: got dumped into the corner. It was an absolute disaster.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Brent Koulak going to finish his hit. He should not
- 11:45Speaker 4: be finishing his hit with a stick in the air.
- 11:47Speaker 4: He's got to get stick on puck. Puck gets through,
- 11:49Speaker 4: and then you have Connor and Darnel and there's diving
- 11:52Speaker 4: at a at a shot. I don't know what you're
- 11:54Speaker 4: doing to stay on your feet, and then from there
- 11:56Speaker 4: skinner overslides and then again the thing that's been like
- 11:59Speaker 4: an absolute epidemic in this playoffs the last four games
- 12:03Speaker 4: is Puck's going off, you know, the respective teams his
- 12:06Speaker 4: own goals, so to speak, Leon dry saddle, there's nobody
- 12:09Speaker 4: around you. There's half a second left. Get your goddamn
- 12:12Speaker 4: stick out of the crease. Like anytime you're if you're
- 12:15Speaker 4: if you're a defender, And I was always told this
- 12:18Speaker 4: when I played. If your feeder in the crease as
- 12:21Speaker 4: a D man, you're in trouble because if you're in
- 12:24Speaker 4: the crease, you're taking away space. It's easy banking off
- 12:27Speaker 4: of you. It's half time. It's happened time and time
- 12:29Speaker 4: again in this playoffs. I don't know why guys are
- 12:32Speaker 4: getting kind of kind of sucking back into the into
- 12:35Speaker 4: the blue paint, and they're just you're just not helping out.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Your goalie.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Just clear the front, stay out, that's his space. There's
- 12:41Speaker 4: a reason why, you know, you see all these goals
- 12:44Speaker 4: going in because it's just these luck Everyone's like, oh,
- 12:46Speaker 4: lucky bounce, lucky bounce. We know, get out of the
- 12:48Speaker 4: goddamn crease. Let your goalie play it. And then you know,
- 12:52Speaker 4: Leon's a hell of a player, having such a great series.
- 12:54Speaker 4: You know he's one of the best players in the NHL.
- 12:57Speaker 4: But it's just one of those things. With less than
- 12:59Speaker 4: a second left, I know you're trying to do the
- 13:01Speaker 4: right thing. I know you're trying to help out, but
- 13:03Speaker 4: just get your stick out of there. The game's over
- 13:06Speaker 4: and ends up tipping it in and now it's two one.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Vegas has life and I really thought that, you know,
- 13:12Speaker 4: started that game, I was like, well, Edmonton looks great,
- 13:15Speaker 4: they're looking they're looking really good right now, and then
- 13:18Speaker 4: just Vegas kind of chipping away playing their game. I
- 13:21Speaker 4: know they lost mark Stone there early and and that's
- 13:24Speaker 4: a big loss for them, but again it's it's time.
- 13:28Speaker 4: You know, you see Skinner Stu Skinner go back in
- 13:31Speaker 4: that net, and it just seems like a different team
- 13:33Speaker 4: a little bit. I don't know why if they don't
- 13:35Speaker 4: play with confidence in front of them, but you know,
- 13:37Speaker 4: they looked way better against with Calvin Pickard, and that's
- 13:40Speaker 4: the last five six games they just I thought, I
- 13:43Speaker 4: thought Skin played well. He just they were giving up
- 13:46Speaker 4: Grade A after grade A and really big chances. I
- 13:49Speaker 4: think that you can't be doing that with with you know,
- 13:52Speaker 4: a goalie that's been out for six games. You gotta
- 13:55Speaker 4: give him some confidence to play a little bit tighter
- 13:56Speaker 4: in front of them.
- 13:58Speaker 1: All eyes will be on Skinner in game four again,
- 14:00Speaker 1: Edmonton at home will try to take a three to
- 14:01Speaker 1: one stranglehold, but the fact they've had six come back
- 14:04Speaker 1: victories to begin the playoff is remarkable to me. Even
- 14:07Speaker 1: with the Game three loss, we'll see Hurricanes and Capitals.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I told you at the start of the playoffs, Kines
- 14:13Speaker 1: and Devils. I couldn't care less. I still don't care
- 14:15Speaker 1: about the Hurricanes. Capital Seriously, I think involving Hurricanes, you
- 14:18Speaker 1: just feel.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Can you give me the ad?
- 14:23Speaker 5: Then?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Just the like Kaine's Capitals is on.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Andre Svetchnakov kept up his scoring the pay six goal
- 14:30Speaker 1: of the playoffs. Jack Rossly, Eric Robinson, Jackson Blakell scored
- 14:33Speaker 1: for nothing shut out. It feels like Caroline is a
- 14:35Speaker 1: tune to be here. Up to one against the Washington Capitals.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Well, it's been kind of a playoffs of goaltenders and
- 14:42Speaker 4: and you know, Freddie Anderson, just you, Rob Brendam are
- 14:46Speaker 4: nothing but great things to say about him about last game.
- 14:48Speaker 4: He really kept him in that game. But kind of
- 14:50Speaker 4: you're right, other than other than the Tom Wilson and
- 14:54Speaker 4: Jordan Martina kind of battle that's been going on, or
- 14:56Speaker 4: there was a little bit of an Ov versus Burnsy,
- 14:58Speaker 4: like these little one on one battles.
- 15:00Speaker 3: It's kind of just.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Been a it's been a it's you know, it's been
- 15:04Speaker 4: one of the those series that it's the second round
- 15:06Speaker 4: and you kind of expect there to be a little
- 15:08Speaker 4: bit of a drop off. And honestly, I don't know
- 15:10Speaker 4: if Carolina or Washington, whoever gets past this is going
- 15:14Speaker 4: to be able to beat Florida or Toronto. I'm just
- 15:15Speaker 4: not sure they'll. They'll they'll have the juice, so we'll
- 15:19Speaker 4: see kind of how it goes. But you know, big,
- 15:21Speaker 4: I don't want, you know, if they go down three
- 15:23Speaker 4: to one, it's gonna be tough to come back against Carolina.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Like you said, the same thing with Dallas and Winnebeg.
- 15:27Speaker 4: They need to tie this up. Going back to DC here.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It would be interesting if Carolina finally makes a run
- 15:32Speaker 1: of all these years, would say, well, they need a
- 15:34Speaker 1: big strow, they need a big straw. They get Ranson,
- 15:35Speaker 1: Ranson and goes and all of a sudden, if they
- 15:37Speaker 1: finally actually did push through, I do think it would
- 15:39Speaker 1: be an amazing story. Is blanned as I find them.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Whaler's Mafia is never bland. I love Whaler's Mafia, as
- 15:44Speaker 1: does our mantal Anaheim general manager Paperbeek naming his former
- 15:48Speaker 1: Hartford Whaler's team meet Joel Quinville, the Ducks head coached
- 15:51Speaker 1: on Thursday q as when the Stanley Cup, three times
- 15:53Speaker 1: head coach of the Blackhawks where coming of the Panthers
- 15:55Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen, resigned October of twenty twenty one, so
- 15:58Speaker 1: he took his penance four years of penance after meeting
- 16:01Speaker 1: with NHL Commissioner Garry Batman with the Blackhawks response to
- 16:04Speaker 1: Kyle each his claims that he was sextually assaulted by
- 16:06Speaker 1: a team assistant regarding Quinville's association with the Blackhawks during
- 16:10Speaker 1: that time, the Ducks announced that they conducted a comprehensive
- 16:13Speaker 1: review of what took place while Quinnville was head coach
- 16:16Speaker 1: of the Blackhawks in twenty ten. A lot of opinions
- 16:18Speaker 1: about q coming back bear in mind is GM in
- 16:20Speaker 1: Chicago's Stan Bowman also was done in October of twenty
- 16:23Speaker 1: twenty one with his name others ender manager last summer
- 16:26Speaker 1: again Gida, I was not there. I don't know what happened.
- 16:28Speaker 1: If they conducted the thorough investigation him to believe that.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I think Quentville is a great coach and he's ever
- 16:32Speaker 1: disputed that. And to me, he took his time out.
- 16:34Speaker 1: It wasn't like you know, this happenals and he got
- 16:36Speaker 1: a job next day. It's been four years. To me,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I'm willing to kind of just say, I wouldn't say
- 16:41Speaker 1: life by guns, be bygones.
- 16:43Speaker 2: But you move on? Where do you land on this?
- 16:45Speaker 1: Would you like see Quinnville blackbauld Are you happy to
- 16:47Speaker 1: see him back in the NHL.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Well, you're really trying to set me up here, Eh,
- 16:51Speaker 4: set me up with a nice Matza ball.
- 16:53Speaker 3: It does a nice buile of shit.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I listen, I don't know, like to your point, I
- 16:59Speaker 4: don't know what happened, But you know, Joe Quinnville apparently
- 17:02Speaker 4: he said in his speech he called cow Beach and
- 17:04Speaker 4: he also, you know he I think he really wanted
- 17:08Speaker 4: to make sure that it was okay for him to
- 17:10Speaker 4: take this job, and then kind of was trying to
- 17:12Speaker 4: get his blessing, and I'm assuming Kyle Beach gave him
- 17:15Speaker 4: his blessing. I think, you know, Joel really did kind
- 17:18Speaker 4: of acknowledge that he needs to do better and he
- 17:20Speaker 4: needs to not you know, needs to not just kind
- 17:23Speaker 4: of bury his head in the sand. So hopefully he
- 17:25Speaker 4: learned and and you know, I think four years for
- 17:28Speaker 4: for this has he changed. I mean, that's on the
- 17:31Speaker 4: that's the choice of Verbek, and but there's no denying
- 17:34Speaker 4: that he's one of the best coaches in the NHL.
- 17:37Speaker 4: And and even though he's taken two years off, you know,
- 17:40Speaker 4: hopefully he's learned. And I'm sure he's been studying the
- 17:42Speaker 4: game as well, so he might have a few tricks
- 17:44Speaker 4: of his sleeve. And I think this is a good
- 17:46Speaker 4: coach for you know, putting all the shit aside that
- 17:49Speaker 4: happened in the Chicago organization. I think this is a
- 17:51Speaker 4: great coach for this team. I think he's just say it's.
- 17:54Speaker 2: An attractive job, right Zegris Cutter Coachi.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Yeah, well, if you kind of look back, he's got
- 18:00Speaker 4: he's got a lot of experience because if you look
- 18:03Speaker 4: back with those years in Chicago, we had some young
- 18:06Speaker 4: stars there in Patrick Caine and Jonathan Taves and he
- 18:09Speaker 4: really taught them, you know, how to play the right way.
- 18:12Speaker 4: And also he built this fantastic team. And I'm sure
- 18:15Speaker 4: he's gonna he's gonna have some suggestions for for the
- 18:18Speaker 4: for the management to have Pat Verbeek there and in
- 18:21Speaker 4: Anaheim to bring in some more players to compliment these
- 18:23Speaker 4: young guys. But yeah, this is a team that's trending.
- 18:26Speaker 4: They're on the up and up. I mean, they have
- 18:28Speaker 4: a lot, a lot of good talent. Jackson Lacomb, you
- 18:30Speaker 4: got mctavitch, you got Cutter Gotz, you really came on
- 18:33Speaker 4: here the end of the year. You got obviously what's
- 18:36Speaker 4: his name, that little sweet kid. To tell what's the suite?
- 18:40Speaker 4: I always Leo Carlson. Uh, you have a lot of
- 18:43Speaker 4: you have a lot of pieces in place to be
- 18:44Speaker 4: very good. What do they do with John Gibson? I
- 18:47Speaker 4: don't know. They have Dostaal, They have some really good
- 18:50Speaker 4: back end pieces that are coming coming along nicely. So yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 4: this is a if I'm a coach who's trying to
- 18:58Speaker 4: stay out of the limelight after everything that happened Chicago,
- 19:01Speaker 4: it's a good place to go less media on the
- 19:03Speaker 4: West Coast, you know. I think if he went to
- 19:06Speaker 4: the Rangers, I don't know if that would have been
- 19:08Speaker 4: the best fit, and that with under that much scrutiny,
- 19:10Speaker 4: I think it's kind of like he's just gonna kind
- 19:12Speaker 4: of wade his way back in and it's a good
- 19:14Speaker 4: division to go into because I think it's if you
- 19:17Speaker 4: see by this playoffs alone, like the Central is an
- 19:19Speaker 4: absolute monster in the Pacific, is pretty evenly matched with LA,
- 19:23Speaker 4: with Edmonton, and with Vegas, it's very evenly matched. So
- 19:26Speaker 4: it's it's there's room for somebody to kind of grab
- 19:30Speaker 4: the reins and make a playoff push.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Here.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Tal clearly you're in favor of this move because not
- 19:35Speaker 1: only does you a documentary on the Whalers, but you
- 19:37Speaker 1: and Quimball have also been fond of a little lipsweater.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I mean, you guys probably have mustaches for twenty years now.
- 19:43Speaker 6: Well, I think coach Q is clearly a first ballot
- 19:46Speaker 6: mustache Hall of Famer.
- 19:47Speaker 3: There's nothing denying that.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Great you know, great fit. I love the Whalers connection.
- 19:52Speaker 6: There's already been speculation that he might bring in either
- 19:56Speaker 6: Dnen or Elf Samuelson as an assistant.
- 19:58Speaker 2: God, I'd love for him to.
- 20:00Speaker 6: Bring in both so that we got four former Whalers
- 20:02Speaker 6: on the team.
- 20:02Speaker 3: But yeah, it's a great fit. This this year is perfect.
- 20:05Speaker 4: He'll just get everything set for next year, like you
- 20:08Speaker 4: know this year coming up, it'll set them up for
- 20:10Speaker 4: the year after. This is just going to be the
- 20:12Speaker 4: pre and then then everything will ramp up for this team.
- 20:15Speaker 4: They're probably you heard it here first. I think they'll
- 20:18Speaker 4: move Zegres this offseason.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Wow, that's a poll take.
- 20:21Speaker 3: I think they'll make a swing.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Thomas Siki's going to join us.
- 20:24Speaker 1: His thoughts on what has transpired so far in the
- 20:26Speaker 1: NHL playoffs and the Leaves actually make a deep run,
- 20:28Speaker 1: can the Jets figure things out? Plus his own memories,
- 20:30Speaker 1: the greatest hit of his career, the greatest goal of
- 20:32Speaker 1: his career. Thomas Siki's up next after this y'ar an
- 20:35Speaker 1: NHL inscripted Our next guest was drafted fourth overall by
- 20:51Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Kings the two thousand and seven NHL Draft.
- 20:54Speaker 1: He played four hundred and fifty six career NHL games,
- 20:57Speaker 1: all with the New York Islanders. He's a beloved colleague
- 21:00Speaker 1: of ours. Couldn't be here to better time with Ales
- 21:02Speaker 1: fans buzzing right now with the number one overall pick.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Of course, you know me, love the NHL.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Network, Amazon Prime and is working MSG A good friend
- 21:10Speaker 1: of the program.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Thomas Hickey. Ladies and gentlemen, hecks, how are you, buddy?
- 21:13Speaker 5: I'm great, boys and a what a treat. The three
- 21:16Speaker 5: of us have never been on together, but getting to
- 21:19Speaker 5: know both of you guys separately. Some of the highest
- 21:22Speaker 5: energy and best people to work with. Love listening to
- 21:25Speaker 5: the podcast and it's fun to be on boys.
- 21:27Speaker 2: So thanks for having me the endorsement.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, big big fan of the show. Yeah subscriber, Yeah.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Well, you know what the buzz is like in the
- 21:35Speaker 1: New York area around the Knicks Nick Celtics.
- 21:38Speaker 2: So far, the three games have been great.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Road teams won every game normally, want to mention buzzer beat.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I'm talking about basketball, but no oilers. And the Vegas
- 21:44Speaker 1: Golden Knights, the road team has won all three games
- 21:47Speaker 1: there and Vegas wins game through in a buzzer beater
- 21:49Speaker 1: own goal by Leon Dry Suttle Hicks. And all your
- 21:52Speaker 1: time in hockey, have you ever seen something like that happen?
- 21:56Speaker 5: I don't think. I mean you've seen those, you see
- 21:59Speaker 5: him often, and maybe it happens in the regular season
- 22:01Speaker 5: with like one second laughter is the pucks crossing the
- 22:03Speaker 5: line at the end of a period. But we're talking
- 22:06Speaker 5: about the stakes of the second round of the Stanley
- 22:09Speaker 5: Cup playoffs, and I couldn't believe it, and I Obviously
- 22:12Speaker 5: it was a late one, so I wasn't watching it live,
- 22:14Speaker 5: and I was going through the highlights, and I'm like
- 22:17Speaker 5: seeing that last clip, going, okay, there's four seconds off,
- 22:21Speaker 5: Vegas wins this in regulation, how and then you see
- 22:24Speaker 5: it pop out like that, and you know, sort of
- 22:26Speaker 5: like reminiscent of the Patrick camee, Like no one really
- 22:28Speaker 5: knows if it's in, but Riley Smith's like I had
- 22:30Speaker 5: the best view that clearly hit the netcam and came
- 22:33Speaker 5: out and I'm pretty sure it was under the under
- 22:36Speaker 5: the buzzer. So just just wild, especially after Edmonton tied
- 22:39Speaker 5: it up. It would be, uh, would have been quite
- 22:41Speaker 5: the place to be last night at Edmonton with with
- 22:43Speaker 5: the buzz of that crowd before the game started.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Stars Jets right now, Hicks, You and I made four
- 22:48Speaker 1: glorious trips to Winnipeg, so clearly we're in favor of
- 22:50Speaker 1: the I.
- 22:51Speaker 5: Was and I got there six five times this year. Total.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Favorite restaurant there a.
- 22:57Speaker 5: Little place called Arles heard about.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Why yeah, Canadian Staple.
- 23:03Speaker 1: We're recording this in Sunday morning, so we're not sure
- 23:05Speaker 1: what's gonna happen in Game four. The Leaves and Panthers
- 23:07Speaker 1: but this series so far, Hicks has been a whale
- 23:09Speaker 1: of a series. Marshan scores his fourth overtime playoff goal,
- 23:13Speaker 1: tying in for seventh most in hockey history.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Just when it looked like perhaps the Leafs would take a.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Three oh stranglehold, Florida's showed a lot of perseverance and
- 23:19Speaker 1: resilience to come back and win him John Taver's former
- 23:22Speaker 1: colleague years friend back to you guys put juniors together.
- 23:24Speaker 1: How about the way Johnny T's playing a couple of
- 23:26Speaker 1: goals there in Game three.
- 23:29Speaker 5: It's unbelievable with Johnny, And I mean this year, all
- 23:32Speaker 5: the talk, you know, especially him giving up the captaincy,
- 23:36Speaker 5: I had a feeling it might make things a little
- 23:38Speaker 5: bit lighter on him. And that's sort of strange for
- 23:41Speaker 5: me to say, because when you do know Johnny, you
- 23:43Speaker 5: know that nothing really affects him. He just approaches every
- 23:46Speaker 5: day the exact same way. But he had a phenomenal
- 23:49Speaker 5: regular season and I'm not surprised he's getting it done
- 23:53Speaker 5: in crunch time, because even though you know, we didn't
- 23:55Speaker 5: have a ton of success as teammates in the playoffs,
- 23:58Speaker 5: we did make some big strides in recent islander history,
- 24:02Speaker 5: and he was always right at the center of it.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Was the focal point. You know. When I watch him
- 24:07Speaker 5: play and we can talk about goals, assist all that.
- 24:12Speaker 5: When there's a loose puck on the ice, whether it's
- 24:16Speaker 5: a fifty to fifty and he's with somebody or that
- 24:18Speaker 5: pucks up for grabs and it's a foot race, he
- 24:21Speaker 5: comes up with it every single time. And to me,
- 24:23Speaker 5: it's like it's sort of defensive hockey, whatever you want
- 24:26Speaker 5: to call it. It's just hunger. The hunger that he
- 24:29Speaker 5: plays with. He was like that way in practice every
- 24:32Speaker 5: single day. The drill didn't stop. The drill stopped for
- 24:35Speaker 5: everyone else. When it was like, you know, a one
- 24:37Speaker 5: on one down the ice, Okay, someone shoots the puck,
- 24:40Speaker 5: goalie saves, it, goes into the corner. It's like next
- 24:42Speaker 5: rep with him, I'm hunting that puck down until I
- 24:45Speaker 5: hear a whistle every single time. And I think that
- 24:48Speaker 5: was just the way he was brought up. And even
- 24:51Speaker 5: as he gets to the backside of his career, you know,
- 24:53Speaker 5: he's thirty five years old now, that never strays away.
- 24:57Speaker 5: And honestly, I think the strength that you get maybe
- 25:01Speaker 5: is being a little bit older a little bit wiser.
- 25:04Speaker 5: It's even a better part of his game than it
- 25:06Speaker 5: was before. So I'm not surprised to see the success
- 25:08Speaker 5: that he's having, but really happy for him. And honestly,
- 25:12Speaker 5: leafs wise And we were in there a bunch this
- 25:15Speaker 5: year seeing Toronto play, and you know, I actually believe
- 25:20Speaker 5: in that team. And we're talking about the Florida Panthers
- 25:22Speaker 5: that I think they're going to be the hardest out
- 25:25Speaker 5: in the playoffs, whether it's Toronto that takes them down
- 25:28Speaker 5: or whether it's someone else that tries to. I think
- 25:30Speaker 5: Toronto's able to do it. I'm like, when I did
- 25:33Speaker 5: my bracket, I had Toronto go to the final, which
- 25:36Speaker 5: is felt. It felt.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Now's your bracket looking though, right now, how's your bracket?
- 25:42Speaker 5: Look at Dallas and Toronto in the final, Dallas winning.
- 25:46Speaker 4: It talk about just your transition, you know, going to
- 25:49Speaker 4: you from from hockey to broadcasting and how how quick
- 25:52Speaker 4: it was and how seamless. We kind of have a
- 25:54Speaker 4: little bit of the same story we both ended and
- 25:57Speaker 4: it was just kind of like, oh, let's just try this,
- 25:59Speaker 4: and was it something that you wanted to do or
- 26:02Speaker 4: is it just something that kind of presented it off
- 26:04Speaker 4: and you're like, oh shit, I'm pretty good at this.
- 26:07Speaker 5: It's it sort of presented itself. I was my contract
- 26:11Speaker 5: with the Islanders was up. I was looking to still play,
- 26:13Speaker 5: and someone from the PR, kimber auerback the Islanders PR,
- 26:18Speaker 5: approached me and was like, hey, MSG might have a
- 26:21Speaker 5: vacancy and they're looking for an analyst. And I was like, oh, cool,
- 26:27Speaker 5: maybe someday I'll be interested, Like I didn't really think twice.
- 26:30Speaker 5: I was like, I was like, yeah, well I'm playing,
- 26:32Speaker 5: and like I didn't. I didn't really give it thought.
- 26:34Speaker 5: And I was like, maybe that job will be there
- 26:36Speaker 5: in like two years when I'm when I'm done playing.
- 26:39Speaker 5: And I went to a on a PTO to New
- 26:41Speaker 5: Jersey got cut and then I was like, and I
- 26:45Speaker 5: remember telling my wife about that, like oh there could
- 26:47Speaker 5: be an analysting, Oh that's cool. Then I got cut
- 26:49Speaker 5: and we're like, I'll just pick up the phone and ask,
- 26:51Speaker 5: like maybe that's something I'll like, I haven't thought about it.
- 26:54Speaker 5: I didn't think about it when I was a player.
- 26:56Speaker 5: I'm not really sure why. And I picked up the
- 27:00Speaker 5: phone and sort of like I was like, just give me,
- 27:03Speaker 5: give me a chance, give me a shot, give me,
- 27:04Speaker 5: give me one audition and I'll see if I like it.
- 27:07Speaker 5: Maybe I'm good, maybe I'm not. I think it's one
- 27:09Speaker 5: of those things that you don't know until you try it,
- 27:12Speaker 5: and it's it's pretty complicated. It's it's it's a challenge.
- 27:17Speaker 5: But I sort of fell in love with that right away,
- 27:19Speaker 5: that it was just something that's that's challenging, but at
- 27:24Speaker 5: the same time, it's like playing. It's a passion and
- 27:27Speaker 5: you love to do it. And I fell in love
- 27:30Speaker 5: with it right away.
- 27:31Speaker 1: You've been an asset not only for NHL never cam
- 27:32Speaker 1: Azon Pume, but also as you mentioned, the Islanders and
- 27:34Speaker 1: MSG speaking of those aisles. Normally, I thought it more
- 27:37Speaker 1: with thecubilation, number ten to number one, three point five
- 27:41Speaker 1: percent chance get the number one overall, pick Hicks and
- 27:44Speaker 1: your guys come through again. I understand this isn't a
- 27:47Speaker 1: draft with a celebrating type or a badard type, but
- 27:49Speaker 1: Hagen Shaefer, there's big names out there to.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Go from a.
- 27:55Speaker 5: I'm so thrilled and like it was. I was so
- 27:58Speaker 5: on my couch and i was like having a non
- 28:02Speaker 5: hockey night after a long season. I'm like, Okay, I
- 28:05Speaker 5: owe this to my wife, not to be watching hockey
- 28:07Speaker 5: all night, and my group texts for my MSG crew
- 28:11Speaker 5: started filling up and there was like a screenshot of
- 28:13Speaker 5: Islanders at one and then everyone else. And I was like, oh,
- 28:17Speaker 5: it's a gag, Like I'm sure someone could, but they
- 28:20Speaker 5: ran a simulation. They probably ran a million of them,
- 28:22Speaker 5: and like, oh, that was one of them, someone's screenshot
- 28:24Speaker 5: and it got out and I was like, oh whatever.
- 28:26Speaker 5: Then like my phone keeps blowing up and I'm like,
- 28:28Speaker 5: wait a minute. I went looked. I couldn't believe it.
- 28:32Speaker 5: I still can't. It's good fortune, stroke of luck. But
- 28:38Speaker 5: what I will say, like and Jay, like you're there
- 28:41Speaker 5: in San Jose, You've got to be awful. Sorry, I
- 28:45Speaker 5: should rephrase that, you've got to be really bad and
- 28:47Speaker 5: completely tearing it down to maybe get the chance to
- 28:51Speaker 5: get a first overall pick. Maybe they're all going to
- 28:54Speaker 5: be Maybe some of them will be mac when celebrating,
- 28:56Speaker 5: Maybe some of them will be Nico Hescher. It doesn't
- 29:00Speaker 5: really matter. You have the first pick. You have the
- 29:03Speaker 5: best asset of the year in your hands, and it's
- 29:06Speaker 5: free and you didn't have to suffer to get it.
- 29:08Speaker 5: And that's what the Islanders are dealing with in it.
- 29:10Speaker 5: You know, I'm not saying you pick a kid first
- 29:13Speaker 5: overall and all of a sudden you're gonna be you know,
- 29:17Speaker 5: you're now a team to beat for the next ten years.
- 29:20Speaker 5: That's not how it works. But it gives you this
- 29:22Speaker 5: foundational building block that you can add to and build around,
- 29:25Speaker 5: especially when you haven't already torn it down. Like so,
- 29:29Speaker 5: they're so lucky. And as far as the picks the
- 29:32Speaker 5: players to pick, I've got no idea because I don't
- 29:34Speaker 5: watch junior hockey. I've seen clips on these top guys
- 29:38Speaker 5: they're talking about. I can't even comment there. I mean,
- 29:40Speaker 5: I think you really got to comb through it. But
- 29:43Speaker 5: it's really unique too because this first pick, it's like Schaefer,
- 29:47Speaker 5: who sounds like an absolute studd and I saw him
- 29:49Speaker 5: play at World Juniors, played like seventeen games of hockey
- 29:53Speaker 5: last year. So you really got to be thorough and
- 29:56Speaker 5: have a plan for whoever you pick. But it's an
- 29:59Speaker 5: asset however you use it, that just extremely fortunate for
- 30:03Speaker 5: them to get.
- 30:04Speaker 4: I want you to take us through your memorable overtime
- 30:07Speaker 4: goal in twenty sixteen versus Florida and the playoffs. Walk
- 30:10Speaker 4: us through it that night, the locker room afterwards the celebration,
- 30:14Speaker 4: which wasn't my favorite, but I loved you coming down
- 30:17Speaker 4: the middle of the well.
- 30:19Speaker 3: It was like it looked a little rushed, but it
- 30:21Speaker 3: was exciting. Here's the thing, it's it was fun to
- 30:23Speaker 3: see you.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Who's somebody that you know, you know, I've I've played
- 30:27Speaker 4: against you and then I met you and you're very
- 30:28Speaker 4: stoic and I tried to get you to laugh with
- 30:30Speaker 4: with JD. Love, I got a little chuckle, but that
- 30:33Speaker 4: was like you were elated. So it's pretty cool. But
- 30:36Speaker 4: but yeah, it just take us through that night and that.
- 30:39Speaker 5: Goal well with JD Love too, I was I had
- 30:42Speaker 5: a lot of emotions going through. Man, it just it
- 30:44Speaker 5: just came off as a little chuckle, but it meant
- 30:47Speaker 5: a lot. That was blackout state. That was complete blackout state.
- 30:52Speaker 5: You know that that year, particularly in playoffs like that
- 30:55Speaker 5: was probably the best hockey I'd ever played, just you know,
- 31:00Speaker 5: for like three four week stretch and I think you're
- 31:04Speaker 5: iNTS just come come out of you when you're at
- 31:07Speaker 5: the top of your game, and there was you know,
- 31:09Speaker 5: it was a long shift, and it's a long change
- 31:11Speaker 5: in overtime and and it was you know, It was
- 31:15Speaker 5: cool looking back too, because it was like the armor
- 31:17Speaker 5: Yager was covering me and like he he thought the
- 31:21Speaker 5: puck was going to go up the wall and his
- 31:22Speaker 5: quick turnover. I just happened to be in the right
- 31:24Speaker 5: spot and brock Nelson made like such a sneaky, little
- 31:29Speaker 5: understated pass between the sea of the defenseman and like
- 31:33Speaker 5: I had no time, I was coming in and just
- 31:36Speaker 5: I don't know if I've ever really done that in
- 31:38Speaker 5: a regular season game where I'm like, oh, I'm on
- 31:40Speaker 5: the point, I'm just gonna sprint down to the slot
- 31:43Speaker 5: area and get something. But like I said, it was
- 31:45Speaker 5: just sort of instinctual, sort of got it off as
- 31:48Speaker 5: quick as I could, didn't really aim and beat the goalie.
- 31:51Speaker 5: And those are those are those moments that will live
- 31:53Speaker 5: with you forever. And I remember after that game, I
- 31:55Speaker 5: had like my my family was there. It was such
- 31:58Speaker 5: a big moment. I had like the biggest headache from
- 32:01Speaker 5: guys tapping me on the head after that, and then
- 32:03Speaker 5: the rush of adrenaline. I remember waking up the next day.
- 32:06Speaker 5: I was like felt like I got hit by a bus,
- 32:09Speaker 5: just because as a defenseman that didn't score a ton
- 32:12Speaker 5: of goals. It was like it just takes over you.
- 32:15Speaker 5: So that was that was one memory that will stick
- 32:19Speaker 5: with me for the rest of my life. That feeling
- 32:21Speaker 5: after and now when I'm watching guys like, you know,
- 32:25Speaker 5: Riley Smith scored a big goal last night. He's scored
- 32:27Speaker 5: many big ones. But I'm like, it's cool they get
- 32:29Speaker 5: they get to feel that, and maybe not as important
- 32:32Speaker 5: if they do it more often. But I love I
- 32:36Speaker 5: love watching overtime because I love seeing an unlikely hero
- 32:39Speaker 5: and just sort of thinking to myself, Wow, they get
- 32:42Speaker 5: to experience that for about twenty four hours. It's really cool.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Well we're doing memory Lane with Hicks. How about you
- 32:47Speaker 2: had on Jonathan Drew in the best of your career? Amazing?
- 32:49Speaker 5: Oh yeah, that one he he was freshly out of junior.
- 32:56Speaker 5: I think it was his second year. It might have
- 32:58Speaker 5: been his rookie year. Another one of those things. It
- 33:01Speaker 5: was sort of like a little bit of a gamble
- 33:03Speaker 5: I had was Haylock Posa was you know, I knew
- 33:06Speaker 5: if I got beat inside that someone was there, Like
- 33:09Speaker 5: I wasn't gonna end up on the highlight reel because
- 33:11Speaker 5: I had someone back, and uh, it was like it
- 33:16Speaker 5: was like running into a bag of pillows that someone
- 33:19Speaker 5: just stacks and and you're you're sort of going full
- 33:21Speaker 5: speed and then that thing's coming in and it just
- 33:24Speaker 5: like I didn't feel anything at all. And I mean
- 33:27Speaker 5: the thing I say this one like last laugh goes
- 33:29Speaker 5: to Jonathan Duranne because he went to the quiet room
- 33:32Speaker 5: for not just the rest of the period, like a
- 33:35Speaker 5: period and a half. Then all of a sudden, they
- 33:37Speaker 5: open up the gate and outcomes Druanne. We're all like,
- 33:40Speaker 5: how was this guy? How was this guy? Back in
- 33:43Speaker 5: the game? He was unbelievable and they ended up beating
- 33:46Speaker 5: us that game and he was a big part of it,
- 33:48Speaker 5: so full full credit to him. But uh, yeah, that one,
- 33:51Speaker 5: that one felt good. I wish it was I wish
- 33:53Speaker 5: it was someone I really despised because I got nothing
- 33:56Speaker 5: against him at all, But there's not. There's not too
- 33:59Speaker 5: many people in my completely despised lest anyways, so uh,
- 34:03Speaker 5: I guess it had to be him.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Well, I mean, another guy I think it was that
- 34:06Speaker 4: series too, that's probably in your despised list that he
- 34:09Speaker 4: worked with is Brian Boyle because he threw it absolutely here, Yeah,
- 34:15Speaker 4: which is one of the dirtiest plays I've seen.
- 34:17Speaker 5: If I tried to. If I tried to go through
- 34:20Speaker 5: Boiler with that hit, it probably I probably just would
- 34:23Speaker 5: have winded myself. So I guess it couldn't have been him.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Loul Leverarella no longer the Alanders, But I'm sure you
- 34:30Speaker 1: got stories for days X he treated you well and
- 34:32Speaker 1: clearly is a Hall of Famer hockey legend.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Favorite Lou story for.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Me, Yeah, one one that always sticks out. It was
- 34:40Speaker 5: just sort of funny. It was, uh so Lou had
- 34:42Speaker 5: just got hired. He came in and live. I live
- 34:46Speaker 5: on the island in the summer, so like me, it
- 34:49Speaker 5: was me, cal Qluatterbuck and someone else. And we're just
- 34:52Speaker 5: sitting in the lounge after we worked out. We're we're
- 34:55Speaker 5: eating lunch and Lou comes in and like Lou's always
- 34:58Speaker 5: popping in and out. Uh, he's sort of everywhere. He's
- 35:01Speaker 5: he's moving around all day and he's you know, he's
- 35:04Speaker 5: he's poking in everywhere because he's got a great feel
- 35:06Speaker 5: for what's going on, not just at the top, like
- 35:09Speaker 5: on every single level. And he pops in and he
- 35:11Speaker 5: looks at me and he goes, I was wearing number
- 35:13Speaker 5: fourteen at the time, and he goes, what do you
- 35:15Speaker 5: think of your number? And in my head, I'm like,
- 35:19Speaker 5: is he talking about my phone number? Like I got
- 35:20Speaker 5: an area I got a Seattle washing the area code.
- 35:23Speaker 5: Like like what He's like fourteen? What do you think
- 35:27Speaker 5: your number? And I'm like, oh, I love fourteen. Yeah,
- 35:29Speaker 5: I've worn it since I got here. Really good for me, Yeah,
- 35:32Speaker 5: it's great. Like I didn't know where he was going.
- 35:34Speaker 5: I'm just like caught off guard. And he's like, I
- 35:37Speaker 5: want to change your number. I want you in a
- 35:38Speaker 5: lower number. I'm putting you in four. And I'm like, yeah, yeah,
- 35:43Speaker 5: that was great. And Lou walks out and clutter looks
- 35:46Speaker 5: at me. He goes, you really bitched out there, and
- 35:49Speaker 5: I was like, yeah, I don't know. I didn't know
- 35:52Speaker 5: what to say. And then I was number four after that,
- 35:54Speaker 5: But uh, that one sticks out to me, and that's,
- 35:56Speaker 5: you know, that's sort of Lou. You he's got a plan,
- 36:00Speaker 5: he's got he wants things to that he likes him
- 36:06Speaker 5: in the way that he's done it. And that was
- 36:07Speaker 5: an example of you just go sure whatever you want Boston,
- 36:11Speaker 5: if you if you do what he wants you to
- 36:14Speaker 5: do in the end, when uh, you know, when you
- 36:17Speaker 5: need something he's going to be the guy that you
- 36:18Speaker 5: turn to. So I didn't have a strong rebuttal I
- 36:21Speaker 5: wish I kept fourteen, but uh, that's that. That's my story.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Listen.
- 36:27Speaker 4: And I mean one thing that lou does love as
- 36:30Speaker 4: well as facial hair, and he has this weird knack
- 36:33Speaker 4: for cleanliness. You know, if you were to pick one
- 36:35Speaker 4: guy in that team that had took the deepest exhale
- 36:39Speaker 4: and was like, finally I can fucking grow a beard
- 36:42Speaker 4: and grow my hair out, who do you think it
- 36:44Speaker 4: would be?
- 36:46Speaker 5: There's a good there's a good little list a clutter
- 36:49Speaker 5: Cal Clutterbuck. You know, since he retired then he was
- 36:52Speaker 5: he's working with us with msg full beard. He's got
- 36:56Speaker 5: it back right away. He would be one. I mean
- 36:58Speaker 5: a couple other guys stand out, like nick Letty got
- 37:00Speaker 5: traded from us, But just when you look at the
- 37:05Speaker 5: side by side of nick Letty with beard, nick Letty
- 37:07Speaker 5: with out, it's like, oh man, what was it someone?
- 37:12Speaker 5: I think it was. It was one of the first
- 37:15Speaker 5: days of training camp, I think, and someone came in.
- 37:17Speaker 5: You know, when you've got like fifty guys in camp
- 37:19Speaker 5: and you don't know who's who. And LEDs always has
- 37:22Speaker 5: this beard. It defines him. You look at him now,
- 37:24Speaker 5: great beard always has it. And someone came in and
- 37:27Speaker 5: like shook his hand, being like hey, hey, I'm Adnan,
- 37:30Speaker 5: nice to meet you, and it was like one of
- 37:31Speaker 5: his teammates. The guy didn't recognize him because he didn't
- 37:34Speaker 5: because he didn't have a beard. I got. I got
- 37:37Speaker 5: to try to remember who it was. So lads is
- 37:39Speaker 5: definitely one I think for for guys like Kyle Polmer
- 37:42Speaker 5: that could grow a beard in like five hours, it
- 37:45Speaker 5: might be a little bit of a relief not to
- 37:47Speaker 5: not to have to do it every single day. But yeah,
- 37:49Speaker 5: there's there's certainly guys that will will feel freed up
- 37:52Speaker 5: from that.
- 37:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Two more from me stranger postgame ritual Amazon Prime after
- 37:57Speaker 1: the game John fors and would not eat. He fastened
- 37:59Speaker 1: on game days are the fact I would only drink
- 38:02Speaker 1: pepsi after the games and support of our spot.
- 38:06Speaker 5: I have to go with foes. I know you love
- 38:08Speaker 5: your your pepsi, I mean fast game day. He doesn't
- 38:12Speaker 5: eat all game day. But the thing that you got
- 38:14Speaker 5: to understand about him, he's like the big busiest man
- 38:17Speaker 5: in hockey. So not only is he not eating all day,
- 38:20Speaker 5: but he was probably up at three thirty or four
- 38:23Speaker 5: o'clock because he needs to be at his the earliest
- 38:25Speaker 5: flight of the day, like three hours early. So he
- 38:28Speaker 5: wakes up, sleeps a couple hours, and then he just
- 38:31Speaker 5: fasts all day, grinds and works and prepares the entire day.
- 38:36Speaker 5: We go, we get to the rink, we'll go for
- 38:38Speaker 5: a meal for his note, I'm heading to the booth.
- 38:39Speaker 5: More prep and then once the game's over, he's just
- 38:43Speaker 5: savoring the tiniest little morsel of food after the game,
- 38:46Speaker 5: and I'm like, how are you doing this? And then
- 38:48Speaker 5: he's got to wake up at like four o'clock the
- 38:51Speaker 5: next morning and fly somewhere because he's probably on a
- 38:53Speaker 5: triple header. I don't know how he does it. It's
- 38:55Speaker 5: the strangest thing, the fact that he's functioning, let alone
- 38:58Speaker 5: being like one of the best, one of the best
- 39:02Speaker 5: in the business. I don't know how he does it,
- 39:04Speaker 5: but it's so bizarre.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Jesus louise I. So he doesn't eat.
- 39:09Speaker 5: Anything, No, he won't.
- 39:11Speaker 3: He won't, not even after after the game. He has.
- 39:15Speaker 5: He'll break his fast after the game, but leading up,
- 39:17Speaker 5: like before the game, he's like, no, I like it.
- 39:19Speaker 5: He like makes me on edge a little bit and
- 39:22Speaker 5: then he's all fired up.
- 39:23Speaker 3: Yeah, oh man, psycho psycho stuff crazy.
- 39:26Speaker 7: Should ask he's not doing that right jay No, Russo, Russo,
- 39:30Speaker 7: I've never seen.
- 39:31Speaker 3: I asked him to.
- 39:32Speaker 4: He'll he'll be eating popcorn, peanuts cot like he eats
- 39:35Speaker 4: about six times and like, I'm like, doesn't that like
- 39:38Speaker 4: bother your like, you know, speaking voice. He's drinking coffee
- 39:41Speaker 4: with like milk at it, and I'm like, he's like,
- 39:43Speaker 4: I'm good. He'd always look over me and just be
- 39:46Speaker 4: like stick with me, kid.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Last thought was close up with Thomas Sicki on the ice.
- 39:51Speaker 1: You're a high character guy's a teammate. You're a high
- 39:53Speaker 1: character guy, well liked, respected by all. And I think
- 39:55Speaker 1: of the fact you and JD are the same age.
- 39:57Speaker 2: You've overcome a lot of adversity in your life. It's
- 39:59Speaker 2: one thing to lose a parent, but to also lose
- 40:01Speaker 2: a sibling.
- 40:01Speaker 1: And you've spoken really eloquently and passionately about losing your
- 40:04Speaker 1: brother but also losing your mom. Today, on Mother's Day,
- 40:07Speaker 1: how about a fond remembrance of not only your brother
- 40:09Speaker 1: but also your mom.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Yeah, No, I appreciate that. It's first Mother's Day that
- 40:15Speaker 5: you know, can't pick up the phone and call her
- 40:17Speaker 5: for me, so many memories. I think we'll come back
- 40:22Speaker 5: to hockey, though, like she she did not know the
- 40:25Speaker 5: game she watched more. I said this at her at
- 40:29Speaker 5: her funeral for a little bit of levity, but maybe
- 40:36Speaker 5: all of us here tall included, like she's seen as
- 40:40Speaker 5: much hockey as is probably more than ninety nine point
- 40:43Speaker 5: nine percent of people, and probably more than ninety percent
- 40:47Speaker 5: of true hockey fans, because she watched every single game
- 40:49Speaker 5: that I played from a young age, growing up, and
- 40:52Speaker 5: even when I moved into broadcasting, she watched more hockey
- 40:55Speaker 5: than anyone. And I don't think anyone knew less about
- 40:58Speaker 5: hockey than by mom. Like playing and simple, she was
- 41:01Speaker 5: just doing it because she loved me. She met my teammates,
- 41:04Speaker 5: she them, she you know, you're on the team. I
- 41:07Speaker 5: want the team to win. You fall in love with that.
- 41:09Speaker 5: But as far as icing and off side and penalties
- 41:13Speaker 5: disallowed goals, like, she's got no idea. She's just tuning in, uh,
- 41:17Speaker 5: because she loved me and she loved that I loved
- 41:20Speaker 5: the game. And I think that's that's my biggest takeaway,
- 41:23Speaker 5: And I think I got a good laugh when I
- 41:24Speaker 5: said that, because everyone was like, yeah, your mom, she's
- 41:27Speaker 5: she's not. She doesn't know the ins and outs of hockey,
- 41:30Speaker 5: but she's watched more than anyone. So that's what sticks
- 41:32Speaker 5: out to me the most. She she loved it because
- 41:35Speaker 5: I loved it, and that means a lot to me.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Yeah, who cares what icing means as.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Long as mom lives exactly.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Thomas Hecky, you know him, you love me.
- 41:42Speaker 1: You can hear him and see him on MSG, Amazon
- 41:44Speaker 1: Prime and NHL Network.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Here was an iron man, by the way.
- 41:46Speaker 1: On Amazon Prime, you can see what you want about
- 41:48Speaker 1: force and he still did miss a game. Thomas Dick
- 41:50Speaker 1: one single game and now after being the busiest man
- 41:53Speaker 1: in hockey. I don't know what you're doing with yourself.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I've seen you once in the schedule NHL Network.
- 41:56Speaker 2: I can't imagine.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Have you been spending your days the last month, even
- 41:59Speaker 1: Ashley catching up on shows or TV.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I don't know what you're doing.
- 42:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm tapped out now. A couple a couple of
- 42:05Speaker 5: shows at the network, going to England this week coming up.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Get away from it all. That's the beauty of it.
- 42:13Speaker 5: You get so wrapped up in it. It's the best.
- 42:15Speaker 5: You love it, you don't want to separate, and the
- 42:17Speaker 5: once you do, you got to recharge the batteries. So
- 42:20Speaker 5: I'm looking forward to that trip. And yes, a lot
- 42:21Speaker 5: of catching up on TV movies and I know, well
- 42:25Speaker 5: we're away, it's we come back. We're gonna be uh,
- 42:28Speaker 5: We're gonna have a full schedule of stuff coming out.
- 42:30Speaker 5: So that's always fun too.
- 42:33Speaker 1: And tell you're gonna love this. Hicks is such a
- 42:35Speaker 1: fan of Anora like you and me. He didn't down Hicks,
- 42:39Speaker 1: go ahead.
- 42:41Speaker 5: Yeah I did. We did a full Anora day. My
- 42:44Speaker 5: wife and I were two friends of ours and went
- 42:47Speaker 5: went down Brighton Beach, Coney Island if if you've seen it.
- 42:51Speaker 5: We went to Tatiana's. We had dinner and it turned
- 42:55Speaker 5: into like we were like the only English speaker was
- 42:57Speaker 5: all Russians. And the night actually ended with us going headquarters,
- 43:04Speaker 5: go to headquarters in the city to like relive the
- 43:09Speaker 5: stripper scene of it all, like we had to we
- 43:11Speaker 5: had to touch everything. That was a late night and
- 43:14Speaker 5: a long one, but it was It was really cool.
- 43:16Speaker 5: We loved it. And I never like live in New
- 43:18Speaker 5: York Longa never been to Brighton Beach and it was
- 43:20Speaker 5: like felt like you were in the movie.
- 43:22Speaker 3: It was.
- 43:22Speaker 5: It was really cool.
- 43:24Speaker 3: I'm sick to my stomach.
- 43:26Speaker 5: And I know you. I know you hate it, JD.
- 43:28Speaker 2: So I don't.
- 43:29Speaker 3: I don't hate it.
- 43:30Speaker 4: I just said, let's call let's call a spade a spade.
- 43:34Speaker 4: It's a it's a soft core porn. It's not true.
- 43:37Speaker 5: It was, it was, it was excellent.
- 43:39Speaker 1: It's a great Academy of Orgining film. And Thomas Aiki
- 43:42Speaker 1: is a future award winner as well. Thanks, you're the
- 43:44Speaker 1: best money.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 43:45Speaker 5: Thanks guys, great talking. See you boys.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Mm hmmm.
- 43:52Speaker 8: Hm.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Hext one of our favorite guys. Honestly a class act.
- 43:57Speaker 1: He's always found a listen to. Like JD said, and
- 43:59Speaker 1: g doesn't throw flowers less he means. He's an articulate guy.
- 44:01Speaker 1: He's a smart guy. Hicks sees the game. Well, I'm
- 44:04Speaker 1: just blown away by that fact.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I like that.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Rusanowski liked me as a snacker, little popcorn, some chips,
- 44:08Speaker 1: doesn't worry but getting stuck in his teeth, that is
- 44:10Speaker 1: one of that man is the Hall of Famer.
- 44:11Speaker 3: I love it. He's got a great larynx like you do.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Thanks what's the good of tabas sicky. We're gonna get
- 44:19Speaker 1: in some fun stuff here. But Lesner, that's right, A Lesner.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I think we might be doing three stars. Tala wants
- 44:23Speaker 1: you to do three Stars. You might do it anyways.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Some meantime I want to do a little Stenophile in
- 44:26Speaker 1: sixty here and talk about David mammontt. I've been on
- 44:28Speaker 1: the Stavid Manett run because at Glengarry glen Ross I
- 44:30Speaker 1: told you guys about seeing that on Broadway Bob Odenkirk
- 44:33Speaker 1: Tony Ward nominated.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Well, when I went to go see it, there was
- 44:35Speaker 2: a sign there, the good old splash.
- 44:36Speaker 3: The QR code.
- 44:37Speaker 1: David Mammont has his first new film in seventeen years.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Be the first to pre order I Said, I'm In
- 44:42Speaker 1: Henry Johnson, which played in Santa Monica, near where Teal
- 44:45Speaker 1: is at least in California.
- 44:46Speaker 2: It came out in twenty twenty three.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Manmittt wrote the play during COVID because he was just
- 44:50Speaker 1: bored out of his mind and shy Lah Buff who's
- 44:52Speaker 1: also a Hollywood outcast.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Right now, say what.
- 44:54Speaker 1: You will about Shia off the field, so to speak.
- 44:56Speaker 1: There's been allegations of unruly behavior towards women, mesmerizing is
- 45:00Speaker 1: an actor, Mammont's an outcast. Why well in liberal Hollywood,
- 45:03Speaker 1: He's been it very clearly.
- 45:04Speaker 2: He is as pro Trump as it gets.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Manmontt Wroten article years ago said why stop being a
- 45:08Speaker 1: brain dead liberal? And even in this latest column of
- 45:11Speaker 1: The Holiday Report, Manman said, Oh I love Trump.
- 45:12Speaker 2: I think he's great. So what happens. You've got one
- 45:15Speaker 2: guy who's about as.
- 45:16Speaker 1: New conservative as it gets, one guy allegations of improp
- 45:19Speaker 1: per behavior. Well, hell, we'll just make a movie and
- 45:21Speaker 1: stream it online. All those David Mamont fans and shy
- 45:24Speaker 1: fans will go to Henry Johnson dot com pre order
- 45:27Speaker 1: for eight bucks like I did, or maybe Jason de
- 45:29Speaker 1: Burris's wife will paid ten dollars to watch it. And
- 45:31Speaker 1: I gotta tell you it's a fantastic movie. Now I
- 45:33Speaker 1: hesitate to say this. I'm curious what you Joe will
- 45:36Speaker 1: think because this is essentially a filmed play. It is
- 45:38Speaker 1: three acts, it's four scenes.
- 45:40Speaker 2: There's no I mean this is you're.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Watching this, Timids and to go, okay, this clearly is
- 45:44Speaker 1: based on the play. This feels I'm watching, you know,
- 45:46Speaker 1: feels like I'm watching Shakespeare or something, but is such
- 45:49Speaker 1: a gifted writer.
- 45:51Speaker 2: It's so much fun to listen to his dialogue.
- 45:52Speaker 1: And I gotta tell you, Shyla buff is nothing short
- 45:55Speaker 1: of mesmerizing. Again, I always think he's been a great actor,
- 45:57Speaker 1: and with Mammitt's words, with that dialogue, you can just
- 46:00Speaker 1: make it sing.
- 46:00Speaker 2: I mean, it doesn't matter who the actor is.
- 46:02Speaker 1: And essentially it's you know one thing about Mammon as
- 46:04Speaker 1: you look at his movies, whether it's The Verdict, The Untouchables, Glennarry, Glenross,
- 46:08Speaker 1: American Buffalo, like, Yeah, Wag the Dog is a great movie.
- 46:11Speaker 2: I mean, his scripts.
- 46:12Speaker 1: The way that these characters talk is just so much
- 46:14Speaker 1: fun to listen to. And it's always about power somebody.
- 46:16Speaker 1: People use words to get what they want. This review
- 46:19Speaker 1: matter of fact from The Daily Beast. As always, Mammitt's
- 46:22Speaker 1: Pros is a staccato wonder full of stops and starts,
- 46:25Speaker 1: half formed questions and answers and retorts that cause the
- 46:28Speaker 1: chat to double back on itself until things twist into
- 46:31Speaker 1: knots even as the material forges arwared in a rapid clip.
- 46:34Speaker 1: It's an exhilarating dance and Bowers more than up the
- 46:37Speaker 1: challenge of the writer's script, and Chris Bower' is one
- 46:39Speaker 1: of the guys who's in the wire. He's great again, Lebuff,
- 46:42Speaker 1: I don't know what this means for his career, he
- 46:43Speaker 1: says in the Hollward Reporter article, which encurags people to
- 46:45Speaker 1: check out. Hey, I don't care what happens in my life.
- 46:47Speaker 1: I got to work with David Mammont is an all
- 46:49Speaker 1: time great. He's a great writer. I encourage people to
- 46:51Speaker 1: check out Henry Johnson Henry johnsonmovie dot com. If you
- 46:54Speaker 1: want to check it, go ahead to tell. I know
- 46:55Speaker 1: you do find this interesting role. Right, Both these guys
- 46:57Speaker 1: are outcasts. Hey, fine, if nobody likes this, nobody wants it,
- 47:00Speaker 1: we'll just put the movie online.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Screw it. We don't need to archie for.
- 47:03Speaker 6: For I mean, regardless of listen, I'm not going to
- 47:06Speaker 6: get into what they've done away from the screen. I
- 47:09Speaker 6: think they're both talented guys. I loved Shi lah Buff
- 47:12Speaker 6: and Peter, but Peanut Butter Falcon.
- 47:14Speaker 3: If anyone's seeing that, oh nice, such a good movie, mam.
- 47:17Speaker 6: It is obviously like in the pantheon.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and I say, good for them.
- 47:21Speaker 6: You know, let's let's put something together ourselves, put it
- 47:24Speaker 6: on ourselves. We'll pocket all the money. We don't have
- 47:26Speaker 6: to go through the studio system. Like I admire the
- 47:29Speaker 6: diy ethos this project.
- 47:32Speaker 3: You see more of that now though, No.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Yeah, there's more of that going on in the industry
- 47:36Speaker 4: of do it yourself and and kind of just bet
- 47:39Speaker 4: on yourself and back yourself, I think than ever before.
- 47:42Speaker 2: No yeah, and I think you didn't see that in
- 47:44Speaker 2: the past, before you needed the studio to.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Back hit night. Like whatever, I'll make the movie myself.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I'll do it a shoestring budget. Like I said, it's
- 47:50Speaker 1: a film play. We'll put it online. It'll be fabulous.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Henry johnsonmovie dot com. Western Hockey League O wait. Oilers
- 47:56Speaker 1: fans enjoying their current playoffront, perhaps none more than Bayron Munich,
- 48:00Speaker 1: left back and Canadian national team star Edmonton's own Alfonso Davies.
- 48:04Speaker 2: His celebrations have been great. People are talking about this.
- 48:06Speaker 1: I'm not sure if you're a soccer guy GD, but
- 48:07Speaker 1: all fonds of Davies loving this right now.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Oh yeah ONMB one one, oh come here.
- 48:12Speaker 8: Oh yeah, oh yeah, that's a go that's a golasso.
- 48:16Speaker 2: That's a golasso, bron.
- 48:18Speaker 9: I didn't know you had it like this. Yeah, man, are.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Doing doing doing doing rubbish rubbish?
- 48:23Speaker 9: Boh get night, get about it in cornhi coror do
- 48:28Speaker 9: his thing.
- 48:28Speaker 8: Look at this inside play take that inside outside? Watch out,
- 48:32Speaker 8: lottle guy.
- 48:32Speaker 2: You you where you.
- 48:33Speaker 8: Going pasta finished?
- 48:34Speaker 3: That? That is simple hockey right there? Where are you
- 48:37Speaker 3: going inside?
- 48:39Speaker 8: Outside?
- 48:39Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 48:40Speaker 8: Moving feet, moving feet, don't trip me. It's gonna be
- 48:42Speaker 8: a foul o you whie sliding? Give me that easy.
- 48:49Speaker 8: David is too good man.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Huh yeah, I mean, I'm I'm I'm gonna. I'm gonna
- 48:55Speaker 4: have fonds of Davies fan. I haven't checked in a
- 48:59Speaker 4: ton on this, but you know, listen, that's why we
- 49:03Speaker 4: do research before.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Uh your thoughts, okay, tell you put the notes you
- 49:09Speaker 2: don't check out right now?
- 49:10Speaker 1: I'm checking should live check it out, and then gave
- 49:13Speaker 1: his reaction while I t up the next strike. God
- 49:15Speaker 1: you watch it like Western Hockey League officially unnoticed. Duke
- 49:19Speaker 1: Lesnar selected by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the fifth
- 49:22Speaker 1: round the WHL Prospects Draft. The fourteen year old is
- 49:25Speaker 1: the sun, a former w w E and UFC champion.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Brock Lesnar and wait for it, former w w F
- 49:32Speaker 1: diva Sable. That's bringing back memories.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Now you're up my alley. Now ww now we're starting
- 49:38Speaker 4: to talk here.
- 49:39Speaker 1: So this kid, Lesnard played the season for the Notre
- 49:41Speaker 1: Dame Hounds in will Cox, Saskatchewan. And could you imagine
- 49:45Speaker 1: if he's got JD is the nastiness of his old man,
- 49:48Speaker 1: I mean, a Lesner on skates.
- 49:50Speaker 2: I'm intrigued.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Oh and Sable, Let's not discount what Sable did in
- 49:55Speaker 4: the WWE.
- 49:56Speaker 7: Well, I mean she was one of the first Davas
- 49:57Speaker 7: right her. Yeah, but she was like she was, yeah,
- 50:00Speaker 7: she was, she was re finisher. Yeah, she's hell of
- 50:05Speaker 7: a wrestler. Both of them were.
- 50:07Speaker 4: And they you know, Lesner went on into the also
- 50:11Speaker 4: had a little stint in the UFC. It was champ
- 50:13Speaker 4: was amazing what he did. And and I think, uh,
- 50:17Speaker 4: if he has half of that their son, I mean,
- 50:20Speaker 4: it's going to be a sight to see. By the way, Yeah,
- 50:23Speaker 4: just watch the live reactions. Amazing stuff.
- 50:26Speaker 3: We love it. I love one, Yeah, I love one. Yeah.
- 50:28Speaker 4: And again I know all fonds of Davies. I just
- 50:31Speaker 4: I didn't see the live reactions, so you know.
- 50:33Speaker 1: I I I appreciate your honesty. Many an analysts have
- 50:36Speaker 1: just lied to I'm like, oh, it's great to see.
- 50:38Speaker 4: I I'll admit I'll be like, hey, listen, I I
- 50:41Speaker 4: miss that in the notes.
- 50:42Speaker 3: I was.
- 50:43Speaker 4: I was busy on the peanut butter falcon David Mammott.
- 50:46Speaker 2: I did like the David peanut butter falcon stuff.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that wass He's he's on fire today and that
- 50:52Speaker 4: was that was my That was my bad.
- 50:53Speaker 3: Guys, are we doing three Stars?
- 50:55Speaker 2: You want to do with dal? I havena, okay, tell
- 50:57Speaker 2: kick it off? You got sketch the cough tals svetch.
- 51:00Speaker 6: Sorry, so yeah, no, I was going to go with
- 51:02Speaker 6: with Andre Cough. I know we're kind of I don't
- 51:06Speaker 6: want to spend too much time talking about the Hurricanes,
- 51:08Speaker 6: but they have the they have the pieces.
- 51:10Speaker 2: We're pissing off every Hurricanes fan listening.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Listen. They are whalers. Right.
- 51:14Speaker 6: It's a great market with a great building and one
- 51:17Speaker 6: of the better tailgates in the league.
- 51:18Speaker 3: I'll say that much.
- 51:19Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean, such a what's the biggest knock
- 51:22Speaker 6: been on the on the Hurricanes?
- 51:23Speaker 2: Year after year? They don't know a superstar. They don't
- 51:26Speaker 2: the guy game breaker game.
- 51:27Speaker 3: They can't score.
- 51:28Speaker 6: The offense dries up every year in the postseason, and
- 51:32Speaker 6: now they're starting. They've been getting some depths scoring, But
- 51:35Speaker 6: the most important piece, listen, they don't have the superstar
- 51:37Speaker 6: in Rattinan. Can sveetch Nikoff give you sixty to seventy
- 51:42Speaker 6: percent of what Rattinan's giving the Stars. You know, the
- 51:44Speaker 6: most goals he ever scored in the postseason before these
- 51:47Speaker 6: playoffs was four. He already has six and eight games.
- 51:50Speaker 6: The Hurricanes are four and oh when he scores this postseason.
- 51:54Speaker 6: And again for a team whose biggest issue year after
- 51:56Speaker 6: year in the playoffs is scoring, if he can maintain
- 51:59Speaker 6: this pace, that's a huge, huge piece for a team
- 52:02Speaker 6: that just traded a huge superstar that is now putting
- 52:05Speaker 6: up Gretzky numbers in the playoffs.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Well said Jenny, your pick for Star of the week.
- 52:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna give it just based off of last game.
- 52:14Speaker 4: But listen, Dallas Stars, We're gonna go there. Okay, Mira
- 52:18Speaker 4: no no I listen. We talked about random enough. I
- 52:22Speaker 4: got to give some flowers to a d man, Thomas Harley.
- 52:27Speaker 4: Thomas Harley coming in this season, what he's done with
- 52:30Speaker 4: Miro Hayskin and injured is is a sight to behold.
- 52:34Speaker 4: He's really developed into a superstar on the back end
- 52:37Speaker 4: and and a true I think at number one d man. Now,
- 52:39Speaker 4: when Hayskin comes back, he's probably gonna get a little
- 52:42Speaker 4: bit less ice, but he's proven that he controlder the
- 52:44Speaker 4: load for this team and Amy a golden assist last game,
- 52:49Speaker 4: and I just think he's really really it's it's it's
- 52:52Speaker 4: just a testament to what Jim Nil and the Dallas
- 52:55Speaker 4: Stars have done with developing his young talents. And I
- 52:58Speaker 4: just think he's he's just been fantastic. He's playing the
- 53:00Speaker 4: most minutes out of anybody per night on the back end,
- 53:04Speaker 4: and I think on the team and it's just, yeah,
- 53:06Speaker 4: he's my h He's my sta Thomas Harley.
- 53:09Speaker 1: It's a great pick. I have a buddy mine who's
- 53:11Speaker 1: casual hockey. Fanny's not huge, but obviously the national love
- 53:14Speaker 1: he watches it. And when he was watching Four Nations,
- 53:15Speaker 1: he goes, hey, I've been sleeping on this guy.
- 53:17Speaker 5: Who is he?
- 53:17Speaker 1: I said, well, I don't think you're alone in that.
- 53:19Speaker 1: I don't think a lot of Thomas Harley's not a
- 53:20Speaker 1: household name. Yeah, but he is going to be now,
- 53:22Speaker 1: and you're right. He played great at Four Nations and
- 53:24Speaker 1: it's great to see him come into his own because
- 53:25Speaker 1: he's really been a blossoming star.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Good on you to give someone some love.
- 53:28Speaker 1: I'll go to Bobrovski pitches a shut up for the
- 53:30Speaker 1: Pantasy game they had to win.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Bob stops twenty three shots. I'm with him. The Rley
- 53:34Speaker 2: Smith call great for Vegas.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Oh, I thought, yeah, we had Riley Smith too.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Yeah, but I'll go with Bob. Panthers are back in
- 53:39Speaker 1: the series. It's now best of three as a series
- 53:41Speaker 1: shift to Toronto.
- 53:42Speaker 2: This was a ton of fun. Thanks checking a selling
- 53:44Speaker 2: scripted What number is this for us? Tell? I feel
