- 7:44seen it. Yeah, thanks, sure can change your face in a hurry.
- 7:48Yeah, you know whoever this guy is, he's smart. He's done
- 7:53all three jobs on Monday morning. That's smart, and he gets to take
- 7:57for two full days. These bakeries are open on sounds like he might have
- 8:01worked for the bakery. Yeah, I know somebody who works for him.
- 8:05He wouldn't know how to find those four saints unless he was well informed about
- 8:09six' one wait around one eight, wear his brown hat and leather jacket.
- 8:13Man, there's silk stocking over his face. Hey, it's good coffee,
- 8:18carries a gun. Revolve him. I hope we get him before someone scares

- 8:26out. Yeah, MnAl cover from Sunday night till Tuesday morning. Can't spare
- 8:30him in a longer. The man yea as a client man silk stocking play
- 8:35at the Excelsior Bakery and shot a guy Kevin dohn Elliott waiting for the ambulance
- 8:39Celsia Bakery. Okay, Pete, now I'm taking something hot. The guy
- 8:43with a silk stocking, just held up another bakery, shot someone then,
- 8:48Yeah, this is Monday, ambulance is here. Yeah, that's coining.
- 9:09Any witnesses. Just a girl in the store. Who's the man check her
- 9:13for the bakery? Just mak him around. Talk to the Girlian and I've
- 9:15been too busy getting you in the ambulance. Down here, and let's see
- 9:18what he has to say. I'm miss beauty. I got to take him
- 9:26to the hospital and more more after he gets to this Lieutenant Guthrie and the
- 9:30sergeant Cargo. They'd like to ask you some questions. I hope I can
- 9:31help. Did you get a good look at the man was beating a good
- 9:35look? Yes, it was horrible. He looked like well, I can't
- 9:39describe it. His face was all pushed out of shape under his silk stocky.
- 9:43Same guy. How did it happen? It all started after I'd given
- 9:46him the money. He made you open the safe, yes, the floor
- 9:48safe. He made me go into the back of the store with him.
- 9:50I was scared stiff. Well, we got into the storeroom and he made
- 9:54me open the safe. Then he told me to put all the money into
- 9:56the bread bag. I did it fast, I could. I just wanted
- 10:00him to leave, get out of the shop. And what happened then?
- 10:03Then he made me lie out on the floor. I'd done what he said.
- 10:07The bell on the front door rang. I was to check it from
- 10:09the bakery, mister Burns, go ahead. Well, the bell rang,
- 10:11and this robber made me get up and go out and see what it was.
- 10:15He told me to wait on him as though nothing had happened, said
- 10:18he'd have hes gut on me not to make any slips. I've never been
- 10:20so scared in my life. How does he know it was mister Burns.
- 10:22How did he know? Well, I guess when I started talking to him,
- 10:26mister Burns, that is. I'm fainted when I saw who it was.
- 10:30Why did you try to warn him, mister Burns? No, I
- 10:33was just scared that I just stood there. I'd only done something. No,
- 10:37just relax, try to take it easy and take your time. Yes,
- 10:41sir, I knew that mister Burns had come to check the door and
- 10:46they'd gone to the back of the store. All I could do was stand
- 10:48there. I tried to talk, but nothing would come out. Finally I
- 10:52asked mister Burns to go away and come back later, and what Burns do.
- 10:56We just laughed and made a joke about my having a boyfriend in the
- 10:58back of the door. The robber must have gotten scared when mister Burns laughed,
- 11:01because that's whenny, Oh my gosh, I'm getting the shakes, look
- 11:05at me. Yeah, I'll be all right, it's funny, y.
- 11:11I was pretty good, so I started telling you about it. You want
- 11:13to tell us the rest? Sure, I'll be all right. Well,
- 11:18mister Burns is still laughing. When I heard the first shot. It all
- 11:22happened so fast, and I was still frightened. You said, first shot?
- 11:24How many shots were fire? How many? Oh? Three? I
- 11:28think I was looking at mister Burns when the first one hit him. He
- 11:33stopped laughing. I'll never forget his fake. Did he shoot at you?
- 11:39I don't think so. He fired two more times. As I remember,
- 11:41mister Burn's goun around and selling the counter. Right over there, the dark
- 11:46found three wholesome broom And what happened? Then when the man ran out the
- 11:50front door, I ran after him and yelled for the police. Man of
- 11:54a straight call. Then that's when I got the calls. Beauty. You
- 11:58remember if the hold up man touched anything. If there was any place where
- 12:01he might have left fingerprints, let me see. Oh, I don't think
- 12:05i'd remember if he did. Get all the information on this meeting. I
- 12:07want to statement, right, we will, and then this guy is going
- 12:24to be easy. He'll slip. I'll always do Yeah. In the meantime,
- 12:28he's not going to fill up this hospital. There's the dock. I
- 12:31hope he has something good to see, you know. So, Oh God,
- 12:33thre you look as tired as I fail. I'm tired, all right.
- 12:37How about Burns? I can't tell you he's still out, just really
- 12:39amount of surgery. It took three slugs out of the center abdomen when when
- 12:46he looked like thirty eight's sent them over to Charlie in the lab. I
- 12:48don't shack. They were steel jackets, otherwise Burns wouldn't have any stomach at
- 12:52all. Must have been fired at close range. Powder burns on his shirt,
- 12:56and according to the witness, he was about ten feet away. That's
- 12:58hap to close down to Charlie in the lab. Shannie is going to be
- 13:01tired to have any leads on who did it. I don't know a thing.
- 13:07What does he look like? You ever see a man with a silk
- 13:09stocking pull over his head. Not a bit ex identification, almost impossible silk
- 13:15stocking. Thinking about trying it might not be a bad idea. When I
- 13:20want to sneak out of the house, so I don't take care of yourself,
- 13:22then get to sleep, I try Thanela's vitament. Nice guy. Yeah,
- 13:30we think we've got a tough job. He probably won't show himself for
- 13:50a while after using that gun in ma mind. So far he's been taking
- 13:52nothing but chances. He sure crust this up. Putting a job on Wednesday.
- 13:56Yeah, but he's smart. U two days? Take again? How
- 14:01do you fike it? Bank holiday yesterday? Hey, you're right, I'll
- 14:05be done. I'm gonna see what the lamb's gone. Hi? Boys,
- 14:09what have you got for us? Charlie? We got these thirty eights?
- 14:13Uh huh? Find anything in a bakery? Yeah? Nice little girl gave
- 14:16me some corfee cake to take home. Anything official? Nothing yet. The
- 14:20victim was shot from about ten feet. Yeah, I only know that you
- 14:22want some cake. No thanks. You shouldn't beating that stuff, Charlie.
- 14:24You're getting too heavy. I want to die off. You're really worried let's
- 14:28know if you find anything honest, Charlie can't stay help. People all have
- 14:31weight a latitude. I escaped by Fete mine roses on coffee cakes from Bonbons.
- 14:39Well, I'm going to stake those bakeries that on a twenty four hour
- 14:41schedule. If it's just one man? Yeah, what's up going now?
- 14:45I got shot in the bakery with Burns and what about him? Doc Grson
- 14:48just called from the hospital. Burns died. What about his family? I'm
- 14:54going over there now. Oh, I got to kill it the catch.

- 27:23and Dave Light. The lineup was transcribed in Hollywood by him Dubai.
- 27:41Approximately two hundred and twenty eight thousand crippled children and adults were served by Easter
- 27:45Seals during nineteen fifty one, how through two thousand affiliated societies in every state,
- 27:52the District of Columbia, and in Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
- 27:56These societies provided medical care, therapy, home teaching in workshops. They
- 28:00established employment services, cerebral palsy centers, and rehabilitation centers for persons of all
- 28:06races and creeds. Still there remain in this country thousands of cripple children who
- 28:11need care. You can help reach more of them by contributing generously to Easter
- 28:15Seals. If you know a cripple child or adult who needs help, call
- 28:21the Cripple Children's Society in your county. Remember to help cripple children and adults.
- 28:26Contribute generously to your Easter Seal Society. Give to Easter Seals and support
- 28:33this work. Next week, the lineup will be heard twenty five minutes earlier.
- 29:00Be sure to listen to the lineup next week April first, immediately following
- 29:04Life with Luigi and The Llewella Parsons Show that's next week April first. Take
- 29:12one healthy jigger of jollity and a heaping round of madness. Makes in liberal
- 29:17portions of Willie Lumplump, Dead Eye, the Mean Little Kid, and other
- 29:21resorting creations from Red Skelton's Scrapbook of Satire, and you have the complete recipe
- 29:26for CBS Radios one and only Red Skelton Show on Wednesday Night. If it's
- 29:30fun you're after, don't miss Red Skelton every Wednesday Night over most of these
- 29:34same CBS radio stations, and coverly speaking, I remember Wednesday Night has bing
- 29:51Crosby Night on the CBS Radio network. Welcome back. Well, I guess
- 30:34we get a reminder here of just how important Howard mcneer was as a radio
- 30:41actor. We see we hear him actually on two consecutive days, one an
- 30:48episode of Johnny Doller and the other an episode of the Lineup. In each
- 30:53episode he provides a key clue to catching a actually a murderer, and we
- 31:02we've of course, if you listened to the show for a while heard Howard
- 31:04mcneher and a lot of these roles, particularly let George do it really stands
- 31:08out as one he did a lot of these voices on but here I played
- 31:15a far more crucible in this case results in the shooting of the suspect.
- 31:22If anything, I thought the police's reaction here was a bit understated, because
- 31:29you know, there's a lot that goes into what happens to a police officer
- 31:38when he kills someone in the line of duty in terms of paperwork, but
- 31:45in terms of emotional as well. They were more annoyed, minorly annoyed than
- 31:52anything else at least that was what portrayed, so if anything, the reaction
- 31:57end was kind of mild. Another highlight of this episode is Jack Moyles.
- 32:05Jack Moyles and his voice to me, as I was listening to this sounded
- 32:07very different from the one that I'm most commonly here. He was the star
- 32:14of Rocky Rocky Jordan, one of the better radio detective shows, and hear
- 32:22that voice seemed a little bit different, more suited, I guess, to
- 32:28the character. I think throughout here they did a good job. I think
- 32:35of just the casual banter between the police officers in some case other people outside
- 32:43the force. I love that line when he was in the restaurant and he
- 32:47said, I love you it's your food. I don't like great line.
- 32:53Uh. And of course some highlights. There were some interesting ads Live with
- 32:59Luigi, of course, I think I've mentioned that before, one of my
- 33:02favorite old time radio comedies. You know, just wonderfully patriotic and idealistic.
- 33:09And of course there was an ad for Big Town, which in the beginning
- 33:14Edward G. Robinson, though the show would make several changes as Robinson's career
- 33:20began to become so big and he became so expensive radio couldn't afford him.
- 33:28Well, that will actually do it for today. We'll be back tomorrow with
- 33:32our first of the Play It Again Adam specials, and I think it's one
- 33:39you will enjoy. And then we begin our listener support campaign next week and
- 33:45hopefully we'll have details up for you at support dot great Detectives dot net.
- 33:51Thanks so much for listening from Boise, Idaho. This is your host,
