- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Up next to you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Welcome to Wednesday,
- 0:14Speaker 1: last few days of April. We are counting down to
- 0:16Speaker 1: the month of May. And also hang in there just
- 0:19Speaker 1: one more day, before a long weekend. I love that
- 0:22Speaker 1: for you. Not for us though. We'll be here. But
- 0:24Speaker 1: we're going to kick it off here. We've got Chainsmokers
- 0:26Speaker 1: and Beanie. Stay tuned. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Ariana Grande right here on 987, Singapore's number one hit
- 0:35Speaker 1: music station. Sonia and Joakim here with you. Thanks for
- 0:38Speaker 1: joining us. Um, now it seems like Ariana has started
- 0:41Speaker 1: to gain some weight again in a good way, because
- 0:44Speaker 1: for a while, I think people were a little bit
- 0:46Speaker 1: concerned about her health, seeing that, you know, she was
- 0:50Speaker 1: looking very gaunt, very skinny, you know, and she didn't
- 0:53Speaker 1: look quite very healthy.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Maybe the scheduling for filming Wicked, Wicked for good, all
- 0:59Speaker 1: the international press tours and everything that she does as
- 1:02Speaker 1: a pop star as well. But of course, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 1: in the internet is an interesting place where they have
- 1:06Speaker 1: a lot of conspiracy theories. I'm sure you already know
- 1:09Speaker 1: what theories I'm talking about. Yeah, and um they're saying like, oh,
- 1:13Speaker 1: she's finally free, you know, that's why she's gaining weight again.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I, I, I swear, um, the online space is a
- 1:21Speaker 1: very interesting one. And if you let yourself get sucked
- 1:23Speaker 1: into those rabbit holes, right, it's hard to climb out.
- 1:26Speaker 1: The rabbit hole I'm on all these conspiracy theories, of course,
- 1:31Speaker 1: getting revived because of the movie, right? All it took
- 1:33Speaker 1: is me liking one video and now on my TikTok
- 1:36Speaker 1: and Instagram, it's all there. Yeah, this is why I
- 1:39Speaker 1: only watch videos.
- 1:42Speaker 1: My Instagram and TikTok feed all dogs. Somehow people will
- 1:45Speaker 1: find a way to link the dog to Michael Jackson.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Trust me on that one. Can you not? My phone
- 1:48Speaker 1: is listening.
- 1:50Speaker 1: On a very short work week and here's hoping that
- 1:53Speaker 1: you've got some wonderful plans over the weekend. If you're
- 1:57Speaker 1: a footballing fan, this weekend, you would know that the
- 2:01Speaker 1: Champions League semi-final leg one just happened between Paris and
- 2:05Speaker 1: Jama and Bayern Munich. Absolute cinema. OK. Final score 5-4. OK,
- 2:13Speaker 1: so very close game to Paris Saint Germa. I cannot
- 2:16Speaker 1: wait to watch the highlights. Imagine watching that.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And then tomorrow morning at 3 a.m. I'm gonna watch
- 2:22Speaker 1: Arsenal play. OK, this one I don't get the joke.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I'm too for the inside joke, but Arsenal fans gonna
- 2:28Speaker 1: come at me on the WhatsApp chat, but it's been
- 2:31Speaker 1: performing badly or what's been happening with them? OK.
- 2:35Speaker 1: The running joke is, as a footballing fan, nobody wants
- 2:39Speaker 1: Arsenal to win the Premier League and Champions League except
- 2:42Speaker 1: Arsenal fans. OK, so they're not well liked. Yes, and
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's not the team, it's because of the fans. So
- 2:51Speaker 1: people are calling the fans toxic, delusional, banter FC for
- 2:56Speaker 1: so many years, and now that they have a chance
- 2:59Speaker 1: to win it, their fans are not shutting up, but
- 3:01Speaker 1: they've been slipping up.
- 3:02Speaker 1: The last few weeks, so everyone's like, alright, we're gonna
- 3:05Speaker 1: bottle it again. Secretly happy in a way, is it?
- 3:08Speaker 1: Don't speak too soon, Joakim. I mean, may I remind
- 3:11Speaker 1: you where your team was like not, not too long
- 3:13Speaker 1: ago as a realist and a Manchester fan, you're used
- 3:17Speaker 1: to the pain, so used to it. That's why this
- 3:20Speaker 1: year we're even celebrating 3rd place if we beat Liverpool
- 3:22Speaker 1: on Sunday. It's a, it's a win. Just take it.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'll take it. If you're tuning in now, um, think
- 3:28Speaker 1: about this question I'm about to ask, OK.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Um, when I say, what are some messages your parents
- 3:33Speaker 1: send you every morning, regardless of what age you are,
- 3:37Speaker 1: what kind of messages do you usually think about, Joe?
- 3:39Speaker 1: I mean, for my dad, it's the typical good morning graphics. Same, same.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I don't know whether it's like a certain age they
- 3:46Speaker 1: start doing that, which, yes, on TikTok there's a term
- 3:50Speaker 1: for it, boomer chats, but it's very cute. It's it's endearing.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And one day, you know, I mean.
- 3:58Speaker 1: To be morbid or anything, when you look back at it,
- 3:59Speaker 1: you're gonna have like a lot of smiles, right? Yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 1: you're gonna just laugh and smile and see all these
- 4:05Speaker 1: hilarious messages. Some of these graphics that he forwards me, you,
- 4:11Speaker 1: you wondered to him in the first place. It's, it's a,
- 4:13Speaker 1: it's a circle, like they're all sending it to each other.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm sure that's something my dad sent to me, your
- 4:18Speaker 1: dad must have seen it icing on the cake is
- 4:20Speaker 1: there'll be some Bible phrase attached to it. Oh, that
- 4:23Speaker 1: one not so much for me. Yeah, mine is some motivation.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, or like, um, have a fabulous productive Tuesday or
- 4:32Speaker 1: something like that, you know. Yeah. What does that sound
- 4:35Speaker 1: like something Jeremy might say to you? He will just
- 4:37Speaker 1: say GM which is good morning, seize the day. Yes,
- 4:41Speaker 1: something along those lines. I'll tell you the reason why
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm asking you this in just a bit and how
- 4:46Speaker 1: some of these good morning messages that we receive from
- 4:49Speaker 1: our parents, um, and whoever it is that might be
- 4:53Speaker 1: sending it to you.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Could be related to a little bit of a scam
- 4:57Speaker 1: going on right now. OK. You got to be careful.
- 5:00Speaker 1: It's not directly linked, but it's got a, it's got
- 5:05Speaker 1: a bit of um a relation, OK? I'll tell you
- 5:08Speaker 1: why in a bit. You know, when it comes down
- 5:10Speaker 1: to the messages that our parents send us or maybe
- 5:13Speaker 1: even our relatives, right, especially over CNY or any of
- 5:16Speaker 1: the festive periods.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You're gonna get those like good morning graphics or happy
- 5:20Speaker 1: New Year graphics, year of the horse graphics, a blessed day. Yes,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and like there's some flower. Go out and achieve your dreams. Yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 1: something along those lines, right? Chase that rainbow. So it
- 5:33Speaker 1: seems like your dad sends you those. Um, gotta be
- 5:37Speaker 1: a little bit careful because in a recent case of hacking.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Scammers actually targeted this particular man. He's about 66 years old,
- 5:46Speaker 1: could have been any one of our parents, to be honest, um,
- 5:48Speaker 1: via WhatsApp, OK. So his WhatsApp got hacked and what
- 5:53Speaker 1: the scammers did was pretty smart. Um, they looked at
- 5:56Speaker 1: his friends who constantly sent those good morning messages.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And they went and got in touch with those friends
- 6:04Speaker 1: via his uh WhatsApp account that already got hacked, so
- 6:08Speaker 1: the scammers had full control over it. You know what
- 6:10Speaker 1: I mean? So he, they, they're, they're taking a look
- 6:13Speaker 1: at who's communicating with you daily, and these people might
- 6:17Speaker 1: trust you.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You, you know, and that's how they, in other, no
- 6:21Speaker 1: better word for it, that's how they hack the system
- 6:24Speaker 1: to see who they want to target in your contact list.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I wonder whether this passed on to a lot of
- 6:30Speaker 1: people here in Singapore to the point where my dad's WhatsApp,
- 6:34Speaker 1: he got the same thing, got hacked into a few
- 6:36Speaker 1: days ago. Did he, did he experience a very similar, um,
- 6:41Speaker 1: so he was saying that his friend.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Ask him for an OTP to which again you cannot
- 6:46Speaker 1: share these things. So he had messages sent out on
- 6:53Speaker 1: his behalf without his knowledge of hacked, right?
- 6:56Speaker 1: Um, asking for transfers, you know, like, oh, I need
- 6:59Speaker 1: to transfer this. Can you, do you think you can
- 7:00Speaker 1: help me with that? So my dad got hacked. I
- 7:05Speaker 1: was when he told me that I stopped and I went, Dad,
- 7:07Speaker 1: what happened? And then he said, No, apparently his friend
- 7:11Speaker 1: asked him for some OTP or what. And I said, Dad, firstly,
- 7:15Speaker 1: cannot give an OTP. This one is very important. You
- 7:17Speaker 1: cannot give. Then he said, little did he know that
- 7:20Speaker 1: was hacked. So, same, very similar case to this guy. Um,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I think ever since this man made a police report,
- 7:27Speaker 1: they've been on the alert already and I think in
- 7:29Speaker 1: some cases, certain contacts were cheated of thousands of dollars, unfortunately,
- 7:33Speaker 1: because they see the name, right, they're like, oh, this
- 7:35Speaker 1: is a trustworthy person. I mean, if you're sending good
- 7:38Speaker 1: morning messages to someone every morning, it must be people
- 7:41Speaker 1: that you talk to all the time, your school friends.
- 7:43Speaker 1: your relatives, you know, so a police report has been
- 7:46Speaker 1: officially made and they're putting an alert now right now.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Please tell your parents, OK, be very careful. If I'm
- 7:52Speaker 1: not wrong, I think WhatsApp is a function where you
- 7:54Speaker 1: can block unknown senders or the option where when an
- 7:58Speaker 1: unknown sender sends you a message, when you open it,
- 8:02Speaker 1: it doesn't show the unknown sender whether it's been read
- 8:04Speaker 1: or not. You can choose to block or accept.
- 8:07Speaker 1: OK, that, that may help, but in this case, the
- 8:10Speaker 1: so-called unknown sender is your friend friend that got hacked.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So you don't even know whether who, who is it
- 8:16Speaker 1: behind the account. So you and your friend or family
- 8:18Speaker 1: members need to make a, be alert. The bell ring. Um,
- 8:24Speaker 1: give us a national anthem. Yeah, exactly. We would love
- 8:27Speaker 1: for you to call us 669-11987.
- 8:30Speaker 1: One day away from our cloud nine ticket blitz, by
- 8:33Speaker 1: the way, that's tomorrow, so you want to stand by
- 8:35Speaker 1: for that. But today we still want to take your
- 8:37Speaker 1: dedications and tell us which school you're from. Maybe tell
- 8:40Speaker 1: us what's the best part about your school. So yesterday
- 8:43Speaker 1: we had Darren from Hwa Chong. I wonder who we'll
- 8:46Speaker 1: get today. Maybe someone across the street from Nanyang Girls High. Maybe,
- 8:50Speaker 1: maybe we got.
- 8:51Speaker 1: In we, we got Hwa Chong Institution yesterday. We might
- 8:54Speaker 1: get Hwa Chong International maybe. It could be anyone because
- 8:57Speaker 1: they're both like HCI abbreviated, right? as well. Similar area
- 9:04Speaker 1: as well. Anywhere. Anyway, it doesn't matter whether you're from
- 9:07Speaker 1: primary school, secondary school, you know, uni, poly, whatever, we
- 9:10Speaker 1: would love to hear from you.
- 9:13Speaker 1: It's Tyler right here on 987, Singapore's number one hit
- 9:16Speaker 1: music station. Sonia and Joakim here with you this morning.
- 9:19Speaker 1: We love this part of our show. Before you get
- 9:21Speaker 1: to school, um, or work, we would love to get
- 9:24Speaker 1: your dedications in. We are on our mission to collect
- 9:27Speaker 1: all the schools, whether poly, ITE, JC, uni, private uni,
- 9:32Speaker 1: primary or secondary schools, or even kindergarten if you want
- 9:35Speaker 1: to as well. We want to collect all the schools
- 9:37Speaker 1: here on our show and at least every day a
- 9:40Speaker 1: different school calls in for a show.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Shout out. You can be a teacher, you can be
- 9:43Speaker 1: an alumni, anything. Just give your favorite school a shout
- 9:46Speaker 1: out as well. So far, did you get any alumni
- 9:49Speaker 1: from um from Secondary school, like people who have been there.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I can give it a shout out, but it's now
- 9:59Speaker 1: merged with Yio Chu Kang Secondary. Yeah, yeah. So far
- 10:02Speaker 1: I think I did, I did get some from my school, right?
- 10:04Speaker 1: There was one girl, if I'm not wrong, yeah, but
- 10:06Speaker 1: I think she called in from primary.
- 10:09Speaker 1: primary. OK, yeah, we'll see whether we get any um
- 10:11Speaker 1: of the secondary school. They changed it already. Yeah, they
- 10:16Speaker 1: changed the, the, the way they title the classes. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 1: I think now it's um virtues or values or something
- 10:23Speaker 1: like that. The flowers were nicer. The flowers were nicer anyway.
- 10:26Speaker 1: We're gonna head to the phone lines right now. Let's
- 10:28Speaker 1: see who we have. Good morning. Good morning. I'm Siti. Hello.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I'm assuming you are giving your kids a lift to school. Um,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I'm a teacher.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So I'm going to school. OK, which school is that?
- 10:40Speaker 1: Fernvale Primary. Yeah. How long have you been a teacher then? Um,
- 10:44Speaker 1: 25 years. Wow, that's wow, the dedication. I really respect that.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Is there like a special service award for teachers who
- 10:53Speaker 1: have served 25 years? What do you get? I'm sure,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I'm sure. Extra money. OK. That's the best kind of. Yeah,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind that kind of. Exactly. So what's the
- 11:02Speaker 1: best thing about Fernvale Primary that Miss City?
- 11:05Speaker 1: Um, the teachers, my colleagues, they are wonderful. Um, my
- 11:10Speaker 1: pupils love the song Raw. So I'm not sure when
- 11:13Speaker 1: was the last time you went to Bangkok or Thailand
- 11:15Speaker 1: in general. A very long time ago, 2018. 0, also
- 11:20Speaker 1: before COVID even became a full-blown thing. Yeah, it was
- 11:24Speaker 1: for a PlayStation event. I thought you went for someone's
- 11:27Speaker 1: wedding recently, like a friend's wedding. Oh, Phuket, OK, OK.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So was it hot in Phuket?
- 11:33Speaker 1: It was hot, but thankfully our resorts and where the
- 11:37Speaker 1: wedding was taking place by the seaside, by the seaside,
- 11:40Speaker 1: so we can feel the breeze and all that and
- 11:42Speaker 1: unfortunately for my best friend, the bugs as well. Oh, OK.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I mean it's to be expected. I, I was also
- 11:48Speaker 1: just in Phuket not too long ago for a couple
- 11:51Speaker 1: of weeks back for work, right?
- 11:53Speaker 1: It was really shockingly hot. I mean, I expected it because,
- 11:57Speaker 1: you know, going to a beach resort and all that for,
- 11:59Speaker 1: for this work thing, right? Um, and I thought maybe
- 12:02Speaker 1: it's got to do with because we were wearing outfits
- 12:04Speaker 1: that are not always totally meant for the beach at times, um,
- 12:08Speaker 1: only sometimes we wore like swimwear and all, right? But
- 12:11Speaker 1: it was really unusually hot and I recall that the
- 12:15Speaker 1: last time I was in Bangkok, I thought the same thing.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Out in the news today.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Um, our experts are saying that the reality Bangkok is
- 12:23Speaker 1: facing right now is that they could be facing 38
- 12:28Speaker 1: °C days, that could be their new normal by 2050.
- 12:32Speaker 1: If they don't act now and if the government doesn't
- 12:35Speaker 1: do something.
- 12:36Speaker 1: They may face close to 40 °C days by 2050
- 12:40Speaker 1: and you know, we're tropical, we don't have four seasons,
- 12:43Speaker 1: although some parts of Thailand can be quite cool and
- 12:46Speaker 1: cold even. Yeah, but Bangkok is extremely hot and they're
- 12:49Speaker 1: never going to experience winter of any kind. I'm guessing
- 12:52Speaker 1: the sales of Thai iced milk tea going to increase tenfold.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Not, not really lah. I think it's the JU Life
- 12:59Speaker 1: fans or um other types of fans. Dyson came up
- 13:03Speaker 1: with a new one as well, as you saw in
- 13:05Speaker 1: some of their ads recently, right? Um, but they need
- 13:08Speaker 1: to do something. I think the projections are up to
- 13:11Speaker 1: 120 extreme heat days per year by 2050. That's like
- 13:16Speaker 1: half the year if you think about it, if you
- 13:19Speaker 1: think about it, and extreme heat, we're talking about like.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I think recently we heard there was a heat wave, right?
- 13:24Speaker 1: 40+ degrees Celsius and all that, so crazy times. Singapore
- 13:34Speaker 1: as well. No, but you know what I'm glad about
- 13:36Speaker 1: for Singapore.
- 13:37Speaker 1: To flex our system or whatever, but our founding fathers
- 13:41Speaker 1: thought it was a very good idea to make sure
- 13:43Speaker 1: that we're a garden city. So we got plenty of
- 13:46Speaker 1: plants and trees. That is definitely helping to keep our
- 13:49Speaker 1: temperatures lower. Yeah, please.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And don't litter. Don't feed the wild animals. And if
- 13:57Speaker 1: you're going to smoke, you're not allowed to smoke at
- 13:58Speaker 1: the park connectors or the parks here in Singapore. Yeah.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I feel like Joe is like my naggy uncle. No,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's very yang, you know, all these like
- 14:07Speaker 1: keep Singapore clean, clean and green. I know I know.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Then when I go running around the nearest park connector,
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'll see all these bottles and litter and all that.
- 14:15Speaker 1: It's very sad. We see it less now, I think,
- 14:17Speaker 1: I hope, and they are really kind people that are
- 14:20Speaker 1: taking part.
- 14:21Speaker 1: cleanups and all. If it's your first time joining us
- 14:23Speaker 1: here on the shock circuit, firstly, we say welcome to
- 14:25Speaker 1: the show. Where have you been all these years? Whenever
- 14:28Speaker 1: we speak about the public transport here in Singapore, I
- 14:31Speaker 1: always love quizzing Sonia on the colors. That sounds very foreshadowing,
- 14:37Speaker 1: like I'm gonna fail already. OK, what's the best? Because
- 14:41Speaker 1: between you and I, I take more public transport. OK.
- 14:45Speaker 1: So you ready? Yeah. Thomson East Coast Line. What color?
- 14:51Speaker 1: brown, yellow, brown.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Final answer.
- 15:00Speaker 1: OK, I should know this because I live in the
- 15:02Speaker 1: East Coast.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So I was trying to recall, I was trying to
- 15:06Speaker 1: recall like, you know, when I drive past the train station,
- 15:10Speaker 1: what color it was. Downtown Line.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Downtown line is purple.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Do is yellow.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Wait, wait, wait. So it's neither purple nor yellow. Down.
- 15:29Speaker 1: It's either already. Come on, it's either or. I mean,
- 15:33Speaker 1: as in the colors that I got, I got right. OK,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I didn't get it right.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Downtown is red. Wait, no, sorry, no, that is the
- 15:40Speaker 1: scent at this point we're gonna name the whole color spectrum. OK,
- 15:43Speaker 1: never mind. It's blue. Wow, I was so far off,
- 15:48Speaker 1: not even close. OK, so take note for real expansion works,
- 15:53Speaker 1: there'll be a few dates in May and July to September, OK,
- 15:57Speaker 1: where they will close early on Friday nights and they
- 16:00Speaker 1: will start later on Saturday.
- 16:01Speaker 1: morning, so it's an overnight job for them a little bit, yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 1: So for the Thomson East Coast line is between May
- 16:06Speaker 1: 22nd and July 4th. They will close at 11:30 p.m.
- 16:10Speaker 1: on Friday, and they will open at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays
- 16:14Speaker 1: where it's considered quite late to open in better commerce
- 16:16Speaker 1: because usually the first train is about 5:35 a.m. and
- 16:19Speaker 1: then for the downtown line, July 10th to September 5th,
- 16:24Speaker 1: Friday nights they were closed.
- 16:25Speaker 1: At 11:30 p.m. and then they will open at 8:30 a.m.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Saturday mornings. There will be shuttles, services and all that.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Full details available for you and our friends over at
- 16:34Speaker 1: LTA and I think SMRT as well. But you know what,
- 16:36Speaker 1: even though I don't take public transport as much as
- 16:39Speaker 1: you here in Singapore, right, overseas, definitely I have to
- 16:42Speaker 1: take it sometimes. And you know, being on the train
- 16:45Speaker 1: always reminds me of this one unfortunate incident in London, OK,
- 16:48Speaker 1: years ago.
- 16:49Speaker 1: When Germs and I, my partner Germs and I, we were, we,
- 16:54Speaker 1: we were a bit jet-lagged and it was like, I
- 16:56Speaker 1: think the 1st, 1st official night in London, OK. So
- 17:00Speaker 1: we took the tube and it was meant to take
- 17:03Speaker 1: us back to the area where our hotel was.
- 17:06Speaker 1: So we dozed off, we had a heavy dinner, dozed off, OK,
- 17:11Speaker 1: completely missed the stop. And you know, the, OK, this
- 17:15Speaker 1: is not to shade other countries or whatever, but it
- 17:18Speaker 1: is a fact that you definitely feel safer in your
- 17:20Speaker 1: own hometown. And here in Singapore, I, I feel safe
- 17:24Speaker 1: in general, even on public transport, right? Um, but sometimes
- 17:27Speaker 1: certain areas of other countries can be a bit seedy
- 17:30Speaker 1: looking and the fact that we dozed off fell asleep,
- 17:33Speaker 1: we didn't wake up until like the last stop, you know.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Which was quite far out, it was quite far out.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And when we, when we jerked awake, right, because I
- 17:42Speaker 1: guess the train came to a stop, we got out,
- 17:44Speaker 1: it was like completely pitch black outside, only a couple
- 17:47Speaker 1: of like street lamps. It was pretty scary.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And you know what the best part was? Open inverted commas,
- 17:52Speaker 1: best part, Jem's phone was stolen. So that means when
- 17:56Speaker 1: we fell asleep, because what I, what I usually do
- 17:59Speaker 1: is I will keep like, um, my, my personal belongings
- 18:04Speaker 1: like my passport, my phone, all that in like a
- 18:06Speaker 1: case that's under my jacket, pocket, the inner pocket, yeah, inside.
- 18:10Speaker 1: So I think I must have been crossing my arms,
- 18:11Speaker 1: but I think for him, his, his.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Phone like slipped out of his pocket or something might
- 18:15Speaker 1: have been quite easy for the person to take. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:19Speaker 1: his phone got stolen while we were asleep on the train.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Be vigilant on the trains when you're overseas and even
- 18:24Speaker 1: here in Singapore as well. And yes, I love London.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I love the tube, but sometimes taking the tube is
- 18:29Speaker 1: like the lottery, you know. I know. Will it work?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Will there be a strike? Let's find out. Exactly, yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 1: keep things fresh. Never let them know your next move.
- 18:39Speaker 1: 87.
- 18:44Speaker 1: What that sound.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Morning. This is James. Hello James, where are you calling
- 18:49Speaker 1: us from? Geelong, Jurong.
- 18:52Speaker 1: OK, sounds like he's on his way to work. How
- 18:54Speaker 1: confident are you of your answer? 60%. 60% only. OK, well,
- 19:00Speaker 1: hopefully that's enough. James, listen carefully. This is the sound
- 19:03Speaker 1: you have to identify.
- 19:06Speaker 1: For $10,000 what is a 987 secret sound? That's the
- 19:13Speaker 1: sound of the dial for the washing machine when you
- 19:16Speaker 1: change the different modes. The sound made from a washing
- 19:19Speaker 1: machine when you switch modes is your final answer. Yes.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You are incorrect. Your chance to play 987's secret sound continues.
- 19:32Speaker 1: that
- 19:34Speaker 1: Pitching the dial of the washing machine is not the
- 19:36Speaker 1: answer we're looking for, but thank you so much for trying, James.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Have a nice day. Bye-bye.
- 19:43Speaker 1: One guess win big.
- 19:49Speaker 1: OK, if you're tuned in right now, um, just fair warning,
- 19:53Speaker 1: our secret sound round for the day is done because
- 19:57Speaker 1: we realized people still try to keep calling if you're
- 19:59Speaker 1: till like 9 a.m. the answer was said is the
- 20:03Speaker 1: wrong answer, by the way. So he said, switching of
- 20:06Speaker 1: the washing machine dial to different modes. So that was
- 20:09Speaker 1: the answer.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Usually play at about 7:45 every morning. So do not
- 20:14Speaker 1: call us from Secret Sound anymore. Just a public service announcement, OK,
- 20:18Speaker 1: saving you your time. Anyway, um, about to open up
- 20:20Speaker 1: phone lines for something else. We want you to have
- 20:22Speaker 1: a beautiful experience at a Greenwood Fish Market. It's worth
- 20:26Speaker 1: $150 and Joakim and I have been there a few
- 20:28Speaker 1: times already, great ambiance, you know. So today, I, the
- 20:32Speaker 1: moment I saw this particular headline, I thought of you, Joe. Many,
- 20:36Speaker 1: many things remind me of you, both good and bad,
- 20:38Speaker 1: you know.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Um, this one, because I know that you're an avid
- 20:42Speaker 1: player on the PS5, you do love playing. And previously,
- 20:47Speaker 1: before we switched to the morning show, I think you
- 20:49Speaker 1: would stay up quite late to play your PS5. the
- 20:51Speaker 1: ultimate revenge. Yeah, till like, I don't know, 34 a.m.
- 20:55Speaker 1: or however late you can't do that anymore, yeah. So, unfortunately,
- 21:00Speaker 1: from the 1st of May, um, expect PS5 PlayStation 5
- 21:05Speaker 1: prices here in Singapore.
- 21:07Speaker 1: To rise up by about $100 OK, to be exact,
- 21:11Speaker 1: is $98 but it's thereabouts almost $100 right? From the
- 21:15Speaker 1: 1st of May. This is all part of a broader
- 21:18Speaker 1: price hike uh in Sony itself. So this is definitely.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Definitely gonna be something that you gotta keep note of
- 21:24Speaker 1: if you're planning to buy it. Look, the PlayStation 5
- 21:27Speaker 1: was released in 2020 November of 2020. It's been six years. I, I,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I don't want to speculate or assume, but I think
- 21:38Speaker 1: in these six years.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Everybody who wanted a PlayStation 5, they more or less
- 21:44Speaker 1: have it already it already. You never know because when
- 21:47Speaker 1: the new ones come out, right, like it's gonna be
- 21:49Speaker 1: even more expensive, right? So some people, it's, it's just
- 21:52Speaker 1: like an iPhone or whatever Android phone you're on. There's
- 21:55Speaker 1: so many iterations of the phone. For some people, maybe
- 21:57Speaker 1: a previous version is good enough for them. Maybe they're
- 22:00Speaker 1: looking to upgrade to a PS5.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So you're on the PS5, the old price was about what,
- 22:06Speaker 1: $800 700 dollars, $700 plus $800 right? Um, so it
- 22:10Speaker 1: will be about close to $850 from the 1st of May. So,
- 22:14Speaker 1: the price hike is $50 for the PS5. But you
- 22:17Speaker 1: mentioned the PS5 Pro. That's the one that has close
- 22:20Speaker 1: to $100 price hike. So just something for you to
- 22:23Speaker 1: take note of in case you're hoping to buy one.
- 22:26Speaker 1: But this got me thinking as well, you know, with
- 22:28Speaker 1: big ticket items like these, because they're at least almost
- 22:31Speaker 1: $1000 and more, right?
- 22:34Speaker 1: You could have your eye on something out there. It
- 22:37Speaker 1: could be either related to gaming, it could be a
- 22:39Speaker 1: really expensive pair of sneakers, maybe something limited edition, maybe
- 22:43Speaker 1: a watch that you want to reward yourself with, you know,
- 22:46Speaker 1: when you, I don't know, hit a goal at your
- 22:48Speaker 1: work or whatever it is, your graduation or something. Is
- 22:52Speaker 1: there an item that you still have your eye on,
- 22:55Speaker 1: even though you know the price is just going to
- 22:58Speaker 1: increase over the years?
- 23:02Speaker 1: What, what kind of house specifically? Tell me, tell me
- 23:05Speaker 1: your ultimate dream house. Have you seen the prices of
- 23:09Speaker 1: a resale and even a newly launched condo? Yeah, we know,
- 23:13Speaker 1: we know. OK, so to be honest, I was studying
- 23:15Speaker 1: the Tunga Gardens prices, right? Yeah, yeah, in a, in
- 23:18Speaker 1: a condo context here in Singapore, it is considered cheap. Yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 1: But it's above a million dollars. No wonder people think
- 23:26Speaker 1: Singapore is very rich, you know. I know, and what
- 23:29Speaker 1: is it? 98% of the units sold already? Congratulations to developers.
- 23:33Speaker 1: We know why I guess because there's a lot of
- 23:35Speaker 1: stuff going on in that area. Yeah, people are buying
- 23:37Speaker 1: for investment. They resell it is done. Could be people's
- 23:42Speaker 1: property as well. And then look, the resale market as well.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Flats are transacting for over a million dollars, but OK,
- 23:50Speaker 1: maybe that that's really, really big ticket. But in terms
- 23:54Speaker 1: of an item I want to reward myself with, I
- 23:56Speaker 1: told myself at the age of 40, maybe it's about time,
- 23:59Speaker 1: maybe if I can, one Rolex, or like just to,
- 24:04Speaker 1: you know, celebrate myself. I mean, do you have your
- 24:06Speaker 1: eye on the Rolex per se, or are you open?
- 24:10Speaker 1: Other brands I'm the worst person alive. OK, I can
- 24:15Speaker 1: help you. I don't, I don't own that many, but
- 24:18Speaker 1: I like to read up about it. Yeah, maybe you
- 24:20Speaker 1: can give me a recommendation to get and I'll look
- 24:21Speaker 1: at it. Yeah, so, um, I, I have a friend
- 24:24Speaker 1: who actually works in like the watch reselling business. So
- 24:27Speaker 1: it's quite interesting because they go hunt for like rare watches,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you know, in Japan or like other countries or Europe
- 24:32Speaker 1: and all that, right? And they were just sharing with me.
- 24:35Speaker 1: That the watch reseller market in Singapore is just booming,
- 24:39Speaker 1: like for some of these companies, they're booming. And um
- 24:42Speaker 1: she was giving me this example, right? She was saying
- 24:44Speaker 1: that um they brought in this vintage, I think, I
- 24:48Speaker 1: want to say AP um and it's like almost 30K
- 24:52Speaker 1: or something along those lines, OK.
- 24:54Speaker 1: It, it sold off within like a day. I mean,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and I was like, wow, Singaporeans not bad. I feel
- 25:00Speaker 1: it's relative. Like, you know how your friend says the
- 25:03Speaker 1: watch resale market is booming, right? And, OK, we, we've
- 25:06Speaker 1: hosted events for finance agents, housing agents. Every time I
- 25:10Speaker 1: see the million dollar roundtable awards, right, what's the one
- 25:14Speaker 1: watch they're wearing? A Rolex or, or, or a very
- 25:16Speaker 1: expensive one like a PP or an AP.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Yeah, if they're wearing a Patek, maybe they really made
- 25:22Speaker 1: it lah. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Different,
- 25:26Speaker 1: different things, right? Give us a call, 669-11987. Let's take
- 25:32Speaker 1: money out of the equation, OK? Let's just say you
- 25:35Speaker 1: have your eye on a dream item, could be a watch,
- 25:38Speaker 1: a car, um, some luxury item, you know, I don't know,
- 25:41Speaker 1: like a shoe or Hermes bag or whatever it is.
- 25:44Speaker 1: What is your dream item that you still?
- 25:47Speaker 1: Have your eye on and Lamborghini you hope to own,
- 25:52Speaker 1: you hope to own one day. Let us know. 669-11987.
- 25:57Speaker 1: So on the topic of um what are some items,
- 26:00Speaker 1: you know, could be luxury items, could be something you
- 26:02Speaker 1: have your eye on. You know that it's just gonna
- 26:04Speaker 1: increase in price over the years, but you still want it,
- 26:07Speaker 1: like you still dream of having this item. Say good
- 26:10Speaker 1: morning to Nick. Good morning, Sonia and Joakim.
- 26:13Speaker 1: This morning topics bring up, brings up the desire to
- 26:17Speaker 1: travel for a Manchester United game. I've never been to
- 26:20Speaker 1: Old Trafford even though I've been a fan since the 1990s.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Still hopeful that I'll be able to attend one match
- 26:27Speaker 1: with my wife very soon. But if I'm not wrong,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and please correct me if I am, the prices are
- 26:32Speaker 1: just increasing nonstop, right? It's like what, doubling or I
- 26:34Speaker 1: mean I'm not sure if I'm right. It's skyrocketing and
- 26:37Speaker 1: for tourists like us, yeah, you gotta buy those like
- 26:40Speaker 1: museum tour ticket with the game.
- 26:43Speaker 1: At least you're guaranteed a spot. So they bundle it,
- 26:46Speaker 1: bundle it up. So you can go to like 300,
- 26:48Speaker 1: 400 pounds plus plus you have to worry about your accommodation,
- 26:52Speaker 1: your flights, your, your transport, like everything is gonna be triple. Nick,
- 26:56Speaker 1: you know what, having been there a couple of times,
- 26:59Speaker 1: you need to go at least for one game and
- 27:01Speaker 1: I hope they win. Wanna say good morning to, let's see,
- 27:05Speaker 1: your name is Jesse. Hello Jesse.
- 27:08Speaker 1: A big ticket item that I'm eyeing is definitely a
- 27:10Speaker 1: professional lens like a 400 MMF 2.8 lens with teleconverter,
- 27:16Speaker 1: a Sony body or a Canon R3 to take that
- 27:20Speaker 1: signature Kingfisher diving in water photo. I'm not a professional
- 27:23Speaker 1: photographer or a hardcore birder. It's just a hobby. Oh wow,
- 27:26Speaker 1: that's a wow, that's an expensive hobby, I will say.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Can I end the message for you? I already got
- 27:31Speaker 1: my Chanel CF bag.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Can you explain to people like me? Wait, what did
- 27:37Speaker 1: she say? CF a Chanel CF bag. I really don't
- 27:41Speaker 1: know what that is actually. OK, a Chanel bag, like
- 27:44Speaker 1: the luxury one. How much are you looking at parting with? Uh,
- 27:48Speaker 1: now you're looking at about 5 digits, but there are
- 27:52Speaker 1: more accessible ones in the market. I mean, I don't
- 27:54Speaker 1: know if you know what's going on with Matthew Blasey
- 27:55Speaker 1: and all that, the new, OK, never mind the new designer.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Um, he's come up with a lot of beautiful things
- 28:02Speaker 1: that are a little bit more accessible, which I think
- 28:05Speaker 1: boosted Chanel sales like threefold. Can I ask a question?
- 28:09Speaker 1: Which one is more expensive, the Chanel bag or the
- 28:12Speaker 1: Dior bag that's carrying? Actually, it's, it's difficult to compare
- 28:16Speaker 1: different models carry different.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Uh, value. Fair enough. Yeah, so you can't compare just
- 28:21Speaker 1: like that, yeah. Keep the calls and texts coming in
- 28:23Speaker 1: at 669-11987 or 90050987. Yeah, let us know. Even though
- 28:30Speaker 1: you know prices are just going up, what is that
- 28:33Speaker 1: one dream item or experience that you'd like to have?
- 28:37Speaker 1: If money were not an object, give us a call
- 28:40Speaker 1: right now, 669-11987. We're talking about, say, if you had
- 28:44Speaker 1: all the money in the world and you know, the
- 28:46Speaker 1: cost of things right now, the rising cost is of
- 28:48Speaker 1: no issue to you. What are some things like items,
- 28:52Speaker 1: you know, could be luxury items or maybe experiences that
- 28:56Speaker 1: you would like to have? Wanna say hello to A A. Morning, Sojo.
- 29:00Speaker 1: If money wasn't a factor, then I want a private jet.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Anytime you want to fly, I fly. I don't need
- 29:07Speaker 1: to pre-book a flight ticket. Just fly anytime. Wash will be.
- 29:11Speaker 1: But actually the misconception is private jet can fly anytime, right? No,
- 29:14Speaker 1: you still got to book the runway. You got to
- 29:17Speaker 1: speak to the airport, make sure everything is in order
- 29:20Speaker 1: before you can take off.
- 29:22Speaker 1: which wasn't a private jet used for the or isn't
- 29:26Speaker 1: a private jet used for that Singapore Air, the animal jet,
- 29:30Speaker 1: the one you can bring your animals on? Oh, you
- 29:33Speaker 1: didn't see it. It was in the news, yeah, I forgot.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I think it's a private jet, so you can bring
- 29:38Speaker 1: your expensive la.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Want to say hello to Shabir. Hey guys, good morning.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I've been trying to buy a two-door black bay, except
- 29:46Speaker 1: that I've been trying to buy for the past 5 years.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Some other expenses always pop up. Poor me, and also
- 29:52Speaker 1: I'm scared my wife will scold me.
- 29:55Speaker 1: This one, how to tell her? She will definitely notice
- 29:58Speaker 1: even if you don't say anything, she'll notice for sure. Well, honestly.
- 30:02Speaker 1: If I had a wife and she's frowning upon me
- 30:05Speaker 1: getting a big ticket item, I'm like, I work so hard.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Let me enjoy the fruits of my labor. Hold on,
- 30:11Speaker 1: I have the perfect solution for you. OK. You also
- 30:14Speaker 1: buy one for her. Then, then she cannot complain, you
- 30:17Speaker 1: know what I mean.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Then rest of my life, I got you, girl, my
- 30:22Speaker 1: grass I guess grass healthy for you compared to whatever
- 30:27Speaker 1: it is we're eating now. Cameron is on the line
- 30:30Speaker 1: right now. What about you? What do you think? OK,
- 30:32Speaker 2: if money was no object, I would like to set
- 30:35Speaker 2: up a shelter for the stray animals or when let's
- 30:38Speaker 2: say they can come and go whenever they please
- 30:40Speaker 1: guests.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Yeah, something like that. Like whenever they feel hungry, they
- 30:46Speaker 2: can just come and find
- 30:47Speaker 2: food
- 30:47Speaker 1: here. And you know, animals are creatures of habit as well.
- 30:50Speaker 1: They will recognize that OK, this is the place that
- 30:52Speaker 1: I can get food and rest, and they will keep
- 30:54Speaker 1: going back.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Any particular area that you're looking at here in Singapore?
- 30:58Speaker 2: If I were to want to set this up, it
- 31:00Speaker 2: will be different parts of
- 31:02Speaker 2: Singapore. Yeah,
- 31:03Speaker 1: there you go. So I want to ask what inspired
- 31:05Speaker 1: your love for the stray animals here in Singapore?
- 31:08Speaker 2: Uh,
- 31:09Speaker 2: I personally, I have had two dogs, uh, they passed, and, uh,
- 31:14Speaker 2: through my different work experiences, I have encountered with stray dogs.
- 31:18Speaker 2: My love for, for animals, for stray animals actually just.
- 31:22Speaker 2: From there. I want to help them keep warm at
- 31:26Speaker 2: night even.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Who's cutting onions?
- 31:30Speaker 1: Sonia crying. No, I love dogs too, and you know,
- 31:33Speaker 1: personally because Maxi, my family dog, is a rescue, um,
- 31:37Speaker 1: we've seen her transformation from when we adopted her to
- 31:41Speaker 1: now and she's celebrating her birthday next month, her 8th
- 31:44Speaker 1: birthday actually, and her transformation was just incredible, you know.
- 31:49Speaker 1: She looks like a drowning rat when we just got her.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie, like her fur was bad. She
- 31:55Speaker 1: was skin and bones. Now look at her. She's might
- 31:58Speaker 1: be slightly overweight now I'm joking. Maxi is a floof
- 32:01Speaker 1: now enjoying the good life. Floof, yeah, now I want
- 32:04Speaker 1: to be her. She's living her best life. Thank you
- 32:06Speaker 1: so much for your call, Cameron. Really appreciate it. Yeah. Well,
- 32:10Speaker 1: we're speaking like as if money is no object here. OK.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Let's just say we don't have to worry or think
- 32:15Speaker 1: about that.
- 32:16Speaker 1: What are some, say, luxury items or even premium experiences
- 32:20Speaker 1: or things that you want to get or, or have
- 32:24Speaker 1: if money were no option? More or less a day
- 32:26Speaker 1: in the life of Jeff Bezos I mean if money
- 32:28Speaker 1: were no object. OK, I want to say good morning
- 32:31Speaker 1: to Alvin. Alvin says, hey guys, if money was not
- 32:34Speaker 1: an issue, I would like to bring my older parents
- 32:37Speaker 1: to travel by Singapore Airlines on the suite class. Yeah,
- 32:40Speaker 1: so nice. Seeing them and how they love to travel.
- 32:43Speaker 1: We're always on economy class and they won't be able
- 32:47Speaker 1: to rest well and sleep well on the flight. It
- 32:49Speaker 1: makes me more sad and I want to do my
- 32:51Speaker 1: best to work hard to achieve that dream. I hope
- 32:53Speaker 1: that happens for you. I mean, look, um, maybe if
- 32:56Speaker 1: you get the right credit cards as well, you can
- 32:58Speaker 1: accumulate enough points, right? Yeah, just go and follow all those, um, miles,
- 33:03Speaker 1: credit card miles like accounts and all that. They always
- 33:05Speaker 1: do that. And one very nice answer coming in from Johannes,
- 33:10Speaker 1: a girlfriend.
- 33:12Speaker 1: They wanna
- 33:14Speaker 1: I, I don't know if you, do you need money
- 33:16Speaker 1: for that? I mean, hello. Hey, some people don't look
- 33:21Speaker 1: for material, material items or like, you know, they don't
- 33:25Speaker 1: need like a rich boyfriend and I'm very happy those people. But, but,
- 33:30Speaker 1: but to be honest with you, watching TikTok videos and
- 33:33Speaker 1: seeing all these Singaporean dating style questions, right? Yeah, I
- 33:36Speaker 1: think to date an average Singaporean woman, you gotta have
- 33:39Speaker 1: a bit of budget, you must have one.
- 33:45Speaker 1: It's arguable, but I, I don't disagree. I know, but
- 33:49Speaker 1: maybe that could be the sentiments that people are seeing
- 33:52Speaker 1: on like dating apps for sure, you know, yeah, exactly.
- 33:56Speaker 1: One is coming in from Andy. Well, guys, if money
- 33:59Speaker 1: is not an issue, I would love to be able
- 34:00Speaker 1: to work when I want to, and most importantly, spend
- 34:03Speaker 1: time with my newborn girl anytime I want. They grow
- 34:07Speaker 1: up too fast. I love that. Oh, Andy, how's the
- 34:11Speaker 1: paternity leave going for you? Hopefully it's all good.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Anonymous texter saying if money is no issue, I would
- 34:17Speaker 1: pay for everything so that everyone around me can be
- 34:20Speaker 1: taken care of so that I can finally have some
- 34:23Speaker 1: me time with my own money to spend on me, myself,
- 34:25Speaker 1: and I. Why does this sound like joking.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Did you send this message in? Sounds like you. No, no. Oh,
- 34:33Speaker 1: we've got Matno on the line right now. What about you, man? OK,
- 34:36Speaker 1: if money is not an object, I would definitely would
- 34:38Speaker 1: get a 3 landed home, uh, 3-story landed home with
- 34:43Speaker 1: my family as well as my in-law's family. For a
- 34:45Speaker 1: moment I thought you said 3 landed homes. if you want,
- 34:49Speaker 1: you know, just.
- 34:50Speaker 1: OK. So what's the dream plan like if you have all,
- 34:54Speaker 1: you know, everyone in, like what kind of rooms would
- 34:57Speaker 1: you like to have, like, you know, something like a
- 34:58Speaker 1: gaming room, a fitness room, or like anything that you
- 35:01Speaker 1: thought of? Yes, definitely all of that and also definitely
- 35:04Speaker 1: by default, there will be a built-in community, a shared
- 35:08Speaker 1: support as well as all celebrations and uh.
- 35:11Speaker 1: At the shortest possible time as well as get everybody together, right?
- 35:14Speaker 1: So basically almost like a glorified function room in your house,
- 35:20Speaker 1: so you don't have to book starting its own estate.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I love it. Yes, yes, that's all the idea about lah,
- 35:26Speaker 1: just to get everyone so you can save on the
- 35:28Speaker 1: traveling time planning time. Hey, that's the dream, man. It's
- 35:30Speaker 1: a Lorongno.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Sounds good. He can copyright that already. Any ideal location
- 35:39Speaker 1: if you could just think freely coastal areas. So yeah,
- 35:44Speaker 1: you know, yeah, we can just visit the beach after that,
- 35:46Speaker 1: you know, there are quite a lot.
- 35:49Speaker 1: And that's at the Pasir Ris Beach area. I used
- 35:52Speaker 1: to go past there, yeah, I'm also living at this
- 35:55Speaker 1: side of Singapore. No, I must say Pasir Risel very far. Hey, joking, yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 1: it's OK, you know, because you're not invited.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Want to say hello to Faiz. Quite a sweet message
- 36:10Speaker 1: coming in. If money was not an issue, I would
- 36:13Speaker 1: love to exercise in the morning with my wife every
- 36:16Speaker 1: day and then go for breakfast. What a way to
- 36:18Speaker 1: start the morning. Oh, that's sweet as compared to waking up, shower,
- 36:22Speaker 1: and go to work. I know, I know. I mean, look, Faiz,
- 36:24Speaker 1: of all people, we know how you feel because
- 36:27Speaker 1: The moment our alarm goes off, Joakim and I are
- 36:29Speaker 1: rushing and scrambling to get to work, so we don't
- 36:32Speaker 1: really have that relaxed morning routine. Yeah, and one funny
- 36:36Speaker 1: one coming in from Geo, a hint of um.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I think my ultimate premium experience that I hope to
- 36:46Speaker 1: witness in this lifetime will be Joakim's wedding.
- 36:51Speaker 1: I can feel that dreams do come true. Geo, all
- 36:55Speaker 1: I can say is get in line. OK. There's Sonia,
- 36:58Speaker 1: that's my best friends, your mom, my mom, my relatives, dad, whoever,
- 37:02Speaker 1: and now you. Yes, yeah, it's a long list of
- 37:05Speaker 1: people waiting for it to happen. OK, don't worry.
- 37:10Speaker 1: If and when that happens, which I'm sure it will, um,
- 37:13Speaker 1: we will definitely make a big announcement, OK? I'm sure
- 37:16Speaker 1: people will be very invested. It's to the point where
- 37:18Speaker 1: it's time for me to give my groom, the very
- 37:22Speaker 1: first line I would say is I'm sorry this took
- 37:23Speaker 1: a while. Can you, please, please don't wait till you're
- 37:28Speaker 1: like 50 or 60 years old, OK? You know I
- 37:31Speaker 1: want to host your wedding at 60.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I'll be in my 50s then, so I will still
- 37:37Speaker 1: do it. I'll still do it. I might come out
- 37:38Speaker 1: of retirement. In that case, the more I want to
- 37:41Speaker 1: get married at 60. Stop it. Stop it. Please don't wait,
- 37:46Speaker 1: wait so long. Anyway, I think for today's winner, let's
- 37:49Speaker 1: give it to Cameron. Cameron, thank you so much for
- 37:52Speaker 1: that lovely message that you came through earlier. I mean
- 37:55Speaker 1: the lovely call that you had. You said that you
- 37:58Speaker 1: want to dedicate your money if you had all the
- 38:00Speaker 1: money in the world to.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Set up shelters in Singapore for all the homeless animals
- 38:03Speaker 1: because you have a deep love for stray animals. So Cameron,
- 38:06Speaker 1: please bring your family to Quayside Isle to Greenwood Fish
- 38:10Speaker 1: Market over at Sentosa and enjoy fantastic food. And if
- 38:14Speaker 1: you love sports, hey, they got very nice screens. They
- 38:18Speaker 1: even have a pool table for you to go chill. Well,
- 38:20Speaker 1: but speaking of animals, I wouldn't mind being reborn as
- 38:23Speaker 1: a dog living in Sentosa, uh, Sentosa Cove.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Because when you go quayside, alright, you see a lot
- 38:30Speaker 1: of like pedigree dogs walking around. They pampered, you know.
- 38:34Speaker 1: They are, they are, but they are also pretty expensive
- 38:36Speaker 1: to maintain. I'm quite sure. I don't ask for much.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Maybe 6th Avenue. 6th Avenue, I see. Yeah. What, what
- 38:44Speaker 1: breed is, what breed will you be? Golden retriever. Hey,
- 38:48Speaker 1: golden retriever. OK. Any other, any other options? What were
- 38:50Speaker 1: you thinking? Nothing, nothing. Just wondering what you view yourself
- 38:53Speaker 1: as and what you view me as.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Oh no. OK, what, what dog am I going to
- 38:59Speaker 1: be reborn as? Tell me. Chihuahua. Really? So I share
- 39:02Speaker 1: like what goes on when I'm rushing from my Pilates class.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Couple of times I did share with you that I
- 39:08Speaker 1: booked the wrong timing. I mean, it's very relatable. I'm
- 39:12Speaker 1: very sure in the CBD or any offices here in Singapore,
- 39:16Speaker 1: there are loads of Pilates girlies rushing to the studio
- 39:19Speaker 1: for their lunch.
- 39:20Speaker 1: True, it's true. And then rushing back to the office
- 39:22Speaker 1: after that. There are some studios that are very, very strict.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Like a friend told me that this particular studio she
- 39:28Speaker 1: went to, right, if you are like even 2 minutes late,
- 39:31Speaker 1: they won't let you into the support that notion. Why?
- 39:34Speaker 1: Because the instructor wants to start the class as a whole, like,
- 39:38Speaker 1: you know, breathing warm up. I understand that. I understand, but,
- 39:41Speaker 1: and I don't know, it's about the energy.
- 39:43Speaker 1: So you come in all frantic, you might disrupt the
- 39:45Speaker 1: class's energy. OK, I have, I have, I'm in two
- 39:49Speaker 1: minds about that. While I agree, I think that there
- 39:52Speaker 1: should be at least like a 5 minute grace period.
- 39:55Speaker 1: So if you're, you still make it, but you're a
- 39:57Speaker 1: few minutes late, but not more than 5 minutes, then
- 40:00Speaker 1: you can still join. But just join quietly, you know,
- 40:02Speaker 1: join the class because you already paid for the session.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I mean, I don't.
- 40:06Speaker 1: I don't know how this works in some other studios,
- 40:09Speaker 1: but the studio I'm at, they're quite forgiving. I've seen
- 40:11Speaker 1: people walk in like 5, 10 minutes late, and, yeah,
- 40:15Speaker 1: but sometimes you can't control it. It could be work-related.
- 40:17Speaker 1: It could be you cannot find parking, transport, so I
- 40:20Speaker 1: don't feel they should be penalized so hard on that,
- 40:23Speaker 1: you know, it's supposed to be wellness after all, right?
- 40:25Speaker 1: But anyway, um, you know, I love Pilates. I've been
- 40:28Speaker 1: going regularly, and yesterday.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Um, it was one of those times where I came
- 40:34Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, I'm 10 minutes early. Wow,
- 40:37Speaker 1: this is a miracle. Like I'm not actually rushing, you know. OK, yeah, um,
- 40:42Speaker 1: because previously I've shared with you before, I made it
- 40:45Speaker 1: like by the skin of my teeth, like 1 minute
- 40:47Speaker 1: left to go, I'm like 1 minute late or I
- 40:49Speaker 1: got the wrong timing.
- 40:51Speaker 1: So for once I was like, wow, 10 minutes early,
- 40:52Speaker 1: this is great, man. So I take my time, you know,
- 40:55Speaker 1: I went upstairs, I went to the studio, I'm set up.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Only one other girl was there at the time. So
- 41:01Speaker 1: I was like, hey, hi, and then I chatted with
- 41:03Speaker 1: the instructor that was doing that did the previous class
- 41:06Speaker 1: just before ours. So we sat down. Class was supposed
- 41:10Speaker 1: to start at about, I think about 6 p.m. or so, 6:05.
- 41:15Speaker 1: The instructor wasn't there yet. OK. Still me and this
- 41:19Speaker 1: other girl only.
- 41:20Speaker 1: 6:10. I was like, what's going on? Usually they're very punctual,
- 41:23Speaker 1: very punctual. They start straight on time. So the instructor
- 41:27Speaker 1: from the previous class, I think she was also curious
- 41:29Speaker 1: because she was packing up and she was like, what happened?
- 41:31Speaker 1: And then she decided to call the other instructor.
- 41:35Speaker 1: To which I figured from a brief, like eavesdropping of
- 41:39Speaker 1: their conversation that there was a mix-up in the scheduling.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Like the instructor was supposed to cover for someone else
- 41:45Speaker 1: at the 6:00 a.m., 6 p.m. class, but I think
- 41:48Speaker 1: there was some missed call or maybe she forgot or
- 41:50Speaker 1: something and she didn't show up, to which I could
- 41:54Speaker 1: see some worried looks on the other two girls that
- 41:56Speaker 1: were in the same class as, as me, right? Because
- 41:59Speaker 1: we came all the way down already. I want to
- 42:00Speaker 1: have the class.
- 42:02Speaker 1: To which this other instructor came over and said, guys,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I'm so sorry, but it seems like the instructor that
- 42:08Speaker 1: was supposed to take this class has, you know, mixed
- 42:10Speaker 1: up the schedule. Let me see what we can do.
- 42:13Speaker 1: By then it was 6:15 and I was like, oh man,
- 42:15Speaker 1: like what's going to happen? Are we still gonna have
- 42:16Speaker 1: a class, or, you know.
- 42:18Speaker 1: And she goes, OK, you know what, I'll take the class.
- 42:21Speaker 1: So it's very nice of the instructor that wasn't scheduled.
- 42:23Speaker 1: She decided to take the class, so we still had
- 42:25Speaker 1: a class, but um our scheduled instructor didn't, didn't come.
- 42:29Speaker 1: I can only hope that the instructor was supposed to
- 42:35Speaker 1: be I think she will, she will definitely get paid,
- 42:36Speaker 1: but I just thought about it and I laughed to myself,
- 42:39Speaker 1: you know, I'm like the one time that I'm 10
- 42:41Speaker 1: minutes early, something else messed up.
- 42:46Speaker 1: And this is just like it just has to be me.
- 42:48Speaker 1: It's me, right at this point. I think it's the
- 42:50Speaker 1: universe telling you that yeah you're always late. No, I mean,
- 42:53Speaker 1: I'm always on time for my Pilates classes, but this
- 42:56Speaker 1: time I was 10 minutes early and this had to happen.
- 42:59Speaker 1: So next time just go on time, just at the
- 43:01Speaker 1: exact moment is it because if it's a cosmic anomaly
- 43:03Speaker 1: like you being 10 minutes early, something else must compensate.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Exactly right. I shouldn't celebrate too early.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Don't do that. And Singapore's number one hit music station,
- 43:14Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim here with you. So it's almost like
- 43:16Speaker 1: a foreshadowing. We spoke so much about Next yesterday on
- 43:19Speaker 1: our show. Yeah, we did to the point that they
- 43:22Speaker 1: actually made the news, I think in all your mainstream
- 43:25Speaker 1: outlets here in Singapore because Isa Tan over at Next Serangoon,
- 43:31Speaker 1: after 15 years, it has closed. Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I, I, I have no idea. It, it doesn't say why,
- 43:39Speaker 1: but I guess the only remaining Isay Tan is the
- 43:41Speaker 1: one over at Scott's. Oh, OK. So it could be,
- 43:46Speaker 1: I guess they're just trying to streamline their business. Not,
- 43:50Speaker 1: not too sure. So here's Isay Tan's history, OK. I
- 43:57Speaker 1: think Ian Katong Parkway Parade, it closed in March 2022.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Then I Tan over at Westgate Mall closed in 2020.
- 44:04Speaker 1: So I think the one over at Havelock shifted over
- 44:07Speaker 1: to Ian Scotts, which is still operating. And the Ian
- 44:10Speaker 1: at Scott's is actually very big. The one, yeah, exactly.
- 44:13Speaker 1: So they've got like, I think they occupy almost all
- 44:16Speaker 1: the floors, right? Yeah. So it's very cute as the
- 44:19Speaker 1: shutters are coming down, the staff and the managers were
- 44:21Speaker 1: all like clapping and saying bye-bye.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Bowing to the crowd and all that. So yeah, I guess, uh,
- 44:27Speaker 1: people over at Serangoon need to find different shopping options now.
- 44:30Speaker 1: And I guess they'll say thanks for the memories, right?
- 44:32Speaker 1: After all these 15 years, if you, if you're 15
- 44:35Speaker 1: years old, you practically grew up with it. You think
- 44:38Speaker 1: about it. Yeah, it's been there since you were born,
- 44:40Speaker 1: since 2011, yeah, yeah, I'm right. There we go. Well, um,
- 44:46Speaker 1: once again.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Please, if you can support some of your, especially your
- 44:50Speaker 1: local startups, businesses, you know, your aunties and uncles, making
- 44:53Speaker 1: your morning copy and your whatevers, you know, down below
- 44:56Speaker 1: at your blog. Yeah, just support them on a smaller scale.
- 44:59Speaker 1: So the question is what's taken over? Let's see, could
- 45:04Speaker 1: be a BH or you never know. Do they already
- 45:06Speaker 1: have that at Serangoon? Hang on, hang on. Don donkey Serangoon.
- 45:11Speaker 1: The answer is.
- 45:13Speaker 1: No, no, ah, there might just be a new one.
- 45:20Speaker 1: There's never enough, Joe.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Now, a bit of a twist on food news, not
- 45:24Speaker 1: exactly about a launch or a new product or closure
- 45:26Speaker 1: or anything. So I'm not sure if you want to
- 45:29Speaker 1: even how you want to sing the jingle today. OK,
- 45:32Speaker 1: I'll just do it happily. 123, food news. Food news.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Sonia with the interesting news. I don't know how to
- 45:41Speaker 1: say it now. Now, um, I would say that this
- 45:44Speaker 1: particular post they, they put up.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Has drawn mixed comments and reviews, OK. To which I
- 45:51Speaker 1: think some comments are garnering like more than 20,000 likes already,
- 45:54Speaker 1: which means people, yeah, the comment itself is gone, which
- 45:57Speaker 1: means people are feeling quite strongly about this. Um, not
- 46:00Speaker 1: too long ago, Starbucks Singapore actually announced that they are
- 46:04Speaker 1: planning to remove straws from the condiment bars, right?
- 46:07Speaker 1: So they did say, um, now you can choose the
- 46:10Speaker 1: cups that have the sippy lids or you can just
- 46:13Speaker 1: drink it here, you know. So is Starbucks Singapore following
- 46:16Speaker 1: a worldwide Starbucks? OK, so I think worldwide, every big
- 46:22Speaker 1: chain is trying to find their ways to cut back on.
- 46:24Speaker 1: On plastic use, single-use plastics, right. So, um, I'm not
- 46:29Speaker 1: sure if globally every single Starbucks is doing this, but
- 46:32Speaker 1: I think you definitely have the option for that sippy
- 46:34Speaker 1: lid in general. I've seen it in other countries as well. Um,
- 46:37Speaker 1: but I think when it comes down to your frappuccinos
- 46:40Speaker 1: or your frozen drinks and all that, could it be
- 46:42Speaker 1: a little bit challenging without a straw, you know what
- 46:45Speaker 1: I mean? It could be a bit hard.
- 46:47Speaker 1: To which some people are saying, yeah, it's a bit
- 46:48Speaker 1: challenging and why remove all of the straws when you're
- 46:52Speaker 1: still using plastic cups. So I think that was the
- 46:55Speaker 1: main argument that, you know, raised a lot of conversation online. Um,
- 46:59Speaker 1: some even pointed to hygiene issues saying like, what if
- 47:02Speaker 1: the person handling the drinks is also handling the cash register,
- 47:05Speaker 1: then you just touch the lid, then I sip from
- 47:07Speaker 1: the lid directly. It's not hygienic, things like that, because
- 47:10Speaker 1: I think the straws were wrapped in paper, if I'm
- 47:12Speaker 1: not wrong.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Yes, if I'm not wrong, the barristers over at Starbucks,
- 47:17Speaker 1: they wear gloves, right? Yeah, but I think some people
- 47:20Speaker 1: are wondering, do the lid, then other things. I don't know.
- 47:25Speaker 1: I mean, between the plastic cups and the plastic straws,
- 47:29Speaker 1: what's easier to implement is the use of straws. I
- 47:32Speaker 1: think that's the lesser of two evils. Yeah, and I
- 47:35Speaker 1: think from what I have noticed, not just at Starbucks,
- 47:37Speaker 1: but at other cafes as well, um, when they put
- 47:40Speaker 1: the lid on.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I'm not sure if this is practiced everywhere. I'm pretty sure,
- 47:44Speaker 1: I hope it is. They don't really touch the mouth area.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Like they will lift the lid up, but they will
- 47:49Speaker 1: press it down using the sides of the lid and
- 47:52Speaker 1: not like directly on the sippy area of your mouth.
- 47:55Speaker 1: So hopefully this is a standard practice, um, but we'll
- 47:57Speaker 1: see where it goes because I think most people commenting
- 48:01Speaker 1: express a lot of frustration.
- 48:03Speaker 1: But some others say actually not a big deal, like
- 48:05Speaker 1: so many places are already doing this. Why are you
- 48:07Speaker 1: all kicking up a fuss for, you know, straw for
- 48:14Speaker 1: Sonia Chew? I don't really drinks frozen, yeah, you know me, I'm.
- 48:19Speaker 1: I'm an auntie. I drink hot coffee all the time.
- 48:21Speaker 1: It's either hot or if it's iced. Most cafes actually
- 48:24Speaker 1: serve it in, uh, with no straws already, so I
- 48:28Speaker 1: personally don't think it's a big deal. We'll see where
- 48:30Speaker 1: this goes though and how Starbucks then maneuvers and navigates this.
- 48:34Speaker 1: But 20,000 likes for one, that's more or less criticizing
- 48:38Speaker 1: the move. It shows how opinionated people are, of course,
- 48:43Speaker 1: but maybe the other 50,000 people that are patronizing don't
- 48:46Speaker 1: really care. Let's see. You never know.
