- 0:0010 gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:09Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:14Welcome back to the three O take presented by Chinook Seatery.
- 0:16This is episode 531. I'll be your host, Kyle Cord.
- 0:19I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:22Nate Casey, how are we? Hey, hey, hey.
- 0:29What you got to say? It's the best New Balance?
- 0:37What if someday we're sponsoring New Balance and they pull up
- 0:40receipts? What about what about what we're
- 0:44doing is, is worthy of, like revoking said, sponsorship?
- 0:49I mean, we're vibing with what they're putting out there.
- 0:54I said last episode, when's the last time you bought something
- 0:57or wore something? New Balance.
- 1:01That could change. I feel like I would shift gears.
- 1:04Yeah, if that if we if we hauled in a hauled in a big fish like
- 1:08that you. Know I mean no free ads, but
- 1:10don't sleep on New Balance. I mean they not baseball.
- 1:14By the way, did you know that Shohei is?
- 1:18Really. Yeah, actually, yeah.
- 1:20He's a big, big time New Balance guy.
- 1:24In case, in case you didn't know, watching MLB Network, Big,
- 1:29big New Balance guy. He's pretty good at baseball.
- 1:32And it's a little known fact around this business they call
- 1:38Show where you want to start, You want to start?
- 1:44How about no? You know what, let's start with
- 1:46this. Let's start by you or, or with
- 1:52you introducing a little idea you had over the weekend.
- 1:57You hit me up with. A new Sunday segment.
- 2:01It's a new Sunday segment. We're going to pull some type of
- 2:09broadcast call, whether it be TV or radio.
- 2:15Might have a clip, might not. We're going to play it and then
- 2:18we're going to rate it and I feel like what a great way to
- 2:23kick it off with something historic that was done this
- 2:27weekend. You set me up, Is that?
- 2:35Is that my cue? That was teeing you up.
- 2:36Yeah. All right.
- 2:37All right. Here we go.
- 2:38Here we go. You're texting.
- 2:39What do we? What do we?
- 2:40Go. I'm getting the word out about
- 2:42lock it in. What we're doing.
- 2:43All right, I'm locked in. Here we go.
- 2:44Here we go. Historic Eugenio Suarez.
- 2:51Libel. There's 4.
- 2:55Edward Town. 5. There have been 19 four Homer
- 3:15games in Major League history, the last two by the Arizona
- 3:20Diamondbacks. JD Martinez in 2017 at Dodger
- 3:24Stadium and today at Chase Field.
- 3:32Eugenio Suarez A4 Homer game we're.
- 3:34Going to rate the call first. Hold on, I'm laying the
- 3:37groundwork, man. I'm laying the groundwork.
- 3:39Eugenio Suarez, 19 player in Major League history to hit 4
- 3:44homers in a game, in a game in which they would go on to lose
- 3:49to the Atlanta Braves. That was a great game by the
- 3:52way. Don't know how much of that you
- 3:54caught. Wish I could have watched.
- 3:57Yeah, it's that's on Uncle Robbie, isn't it?
- 4:02The call, though, Take us away. I think it was solid.
- 4:11I don't think it was fantastic. The my my struggle with this is
- 4:15that it is an historic moment like that.
- 4:20These are more rare than perfect games, which is crazy.
- 4:26There's been, I think 24. As our as our triple plays if
- 4:30I'm not mistaken. No triple blaze are huge.
- 4:32I saw a graphic today. No.
- 4:34Then what am I thinking of? There's something that we've
- 4:36talked about before where it's like even more rare than a.
- 4:40There was the Yankees graphic today during the broadcast
- 4:45showed like there was, this is the 19th, 4th home run, four
- 4:50home run game. There's been 24 perfect games
- 4:52and there's like a huge jump to like six hit games and then
- 4:58triple plays. There's been like like almost
- 5:03200 triple plays. So it's, yeah, maybe.
- 5:07Four Homer. Yeah, maybe that is what we were
- 5:09talking about. Yeah, I think this is like the
- 5:11most, it's the most rare thing. Maybe we were talking like 20
- 5:17Strikeout games, something like that.
- 5:19That's obviously more rare. Could have been that.
- 5:23Hold on, I got to get to the bottom of this.
- 5:27Is a triple play more rare? Why?
- 5:33Just put in how many? Unassisted, that's what it was.
- 5:36That's what we OK, because I was like, we haven't talked about a
- 5:39four Homer game in a minute. It's the unassisted triple play.
- 5:42That's what's more rare than a perfect game.
- 5:44Noted. OK, but back to this call anyway
- 5:48I think. You want to run it back?
- 5:50Should we run it back? Should we?
- 5:51Should we run it back? Let's give it one more.
- 5:53Did you already give a grade? Sorry, I was looking that up.
- 5:55OK, let's run it back one more time.
- 5:56You're all. Over.
- 5:58The place today there's 4 Edward tied.
- 6:19There have been 19 four Homer games in Major League history,
- 6:24the last two by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
- 6:28JD Martinez in 2017 at Dodger Stadium and today at Chase.
- 6:38I'm going to give it a 6.7. I think it was.
- 6:42I think it was exciting. I think it was solid.
- 6:47We have heard that broadcasters have this moment where they let
- 6:54the crowd, like they call at the moment, breathe or like let the
- 6:57crowd kind of come through. In the chat, Andrew says his
- 7:00call is pretty legendary. I love when the announcer just
- 7:02shut up for a SEC. Let the crowd noise shine.
- 7:04I think that's that's an important aspect to it.
- 7:09I think it was cool that he tied in some history and kind of
- 7:12talked about that because like I in reality, you don't you don't
- 7:19prep that before a game. Once he hit his third, I'm sure
- 7:23there was some notes that were thrown his way in preparation
- 7:25for it, but I think I think it's a 6.7.
- 7:28I think there was almost too much time to let the crowd
- 7:32breathe and. Yeah, that's a good call.
- 7:34That's a good call. I think it was.
- 7:39It was probably caught up in the fact that it was such a back and
- 7:43forth game that you almost lost the moment as much if it was a
- 7:48blowout or if it was like a even like a three or four run game.
- 7:52But the fact that it was like it was to tie the game is late in
- 7:56the game. Those kind of spilled into what
- 7:59could have been like a super historic thing.
- 8:03So that that's why I'm going 6-7.
- 8:06I'm going to, I'm going to jot these numbers down, maybe keep a
- 8:09running, running tally as we go along.
- 8:13Yeah, I'm with you. A little too much, little too
- 8:15much dead time there in between, but.
- 8:17A little, a little too much. I think I'd probably prefer a
- 8:21little more than not enough because if you're just running
- 8:23your mouth, yeah, sometimes it takes away my.
- 8:28OK, here's my thing. My favorite element of a good
- 8:31call is when you got the color guy, the like the partner beside
- 8:36him freaking out. Yeah, behind, like behind
- 8:41whatever he's saying. And he was losing it.
- 8:43It just adds a little bit of flair.
- 8:48But I would have loved. I mean, it's tough to to go up
- 8:53into like the sevenths or eights on something like this.
- 8:55I mean, I'm going to need a little more juice, adequate
- 8:58juice. Adequate juice, but I'm going to
- 9:03go I'm. Going to go 6/4.
- 9:08Oh, all right. I'm.
- 9:09Going to go 6/4. I thought it was.
- 9:11I thought it was harsh at 6-7 so.
- 9:14I mean 6-4 is nothing to turn your nose.
- 9:16Around the same page, but either way, look, new segment, we're
- 9:21going to this. I think this is the Sunday
- 9:22segment. I mean, I like that we're
- 9:25starting sort of like middle of the road.
- 9:27I mean, it was a, it was a good call.
- 9:28But I mean, if you start, if you start with the the call of the
- 9:32season, then it's only downhill from here.
- 9:35Yeah. So this, this is this is a big
- 9:39we're going to need, you're going to need your help as a
- 9:42listener. You know, if you got moments,
- 9:44you got calls. Doesn't have to be like it
- 9:46doesn't have to be a home run. It could be a but a diving play.
- 9:49It could be. It could be radio.
- 9:51By the way, it doesn't have to be TV.
- 9:52Oh, radios, radio, they have to make it work because you got as
- 9:56a as a on the radio call, you got to paint a picture.
- 10:00Sometimes those are better. Than than than so I think what
- 10:04this will do. Can we give him his flowers?
- 10:06By the way, I don't know this this broadcaster's name.
- 10:13I think that's something important too.
- 10:15We can get that's. True.
- 10:16Yeah, let's, let's spread. The name of broadcasters 'cause
- 10:20that's not overly common unless you're like a fan of that team.
- 10:25Isn't Bob Brendley in the booth? Well, he was.
- 10:31I don't know if he is since this new.
- 10:34Yeah, Bob Brendley's in the booth.
- 10:35Is he? Steve D Backs fans going to have
- 10:39to help me out here. I can never pronounce his name.
- 10:41Steve Burethane, Bure fame, BERTHIAUME.
- 10:53That's a tough one. That is tough.
- 10:55Tough one to start out, but. Anyway, it's easy for you to sit
- 10:58there and and scoff at my pronunciations when I'm always
- 11:01the guy that's doing the pronunciating.
- 11:03He. Could he?
- 11:04I feel like he used to be like an ESPN guy too, or like like a
- 11:08Sports Center guy back in the day.
- 11:11Steve Berthum, maybe? That sounds right, but anyway
- 11:15would love, would love help on this.
- 11:18Send us, send us certain plays we can dig up calls.
- 11:21He was. ESPN Guy Sports Center.
- 11:22Yeah. Yeah, that's what I thought.
- 11:25But yeah, send us stuff. Could be throughout the week,
- 11:28but Sunday, Sunday segment, I don't know.
- 11:32We don't have a name for it yet, but we'll figure out.
- 11:35I like this. I like it.
- 11:39Yeah, Eugenio Suarez all coming in a loss, which is certainly
- 11:45unfortunate, but what can you do?
- 11:51Speaking of what can you do? Devin Williams removed as a
- 11:53closer the very next episode after we talked about where the
- 11:58panic meter is at for certain closers around the league, one
- 12:02of one of whom being Devin Williams.
- 12:05No longer the closer for the time being.
- 12:08Did he blow a save that night or was it the next night your.
- 12:11Guy it. Was the next night.
- 12:13He made the announcement today, I think.
- 12:16Yeah, but he blew a save. Friday, I think it would have
- 12:21been Thursday. Well when we recorded he, I
- 12:24think he only had 9 appearances at that point last time we
- 12:27talked. So if he did, because I think
- 12:29he's only got 10 now. Yeah, I think it was Friday.
- 12:35Yeah, I mean, tough man. I like that Luke Weaver we
- 12:45talked about this last episode. I like that Luke Weaver is kind
- 12:49of getting his opportunity again.
- 12:52Yeah, because I I hate to say it, but I liked him in that
- 12:55spot. I, I think he's a like mentally,
- 12:58I think he's got the make up for it, it seems.
- 13:03And he's something that doesn't really matter or, or impact what
- 13:09he's doing this year or really any other year for that matter.
- 13:11I just think it's an interesting observation.
- 13:13And I've mentioned this, I think last year during the postseason
- 13:17when he was really getting a shine.
- 13:19Very similar build to Young MO, if if we're being honest, that's
- 13:24true. Very, very similar build.
- 13:27So who knows, maybe Luke Weaver. What was that comp I made the
- 13:34other day? Chris Bassett is this
- 13:37generation's Nolan Ryan, Maybe. Maybe Luke Weaver is this
- 13:41generation's Mariano. Yeah, maybe that's tough.
- 13:47Sorry I was looking something up but.
- 13:50Man, yeah, I tough crowd with Nate today.
- 13:54He is just not. Not dialed.
- 13:59He's not dialed. He's not he's not letting me be
- 14:03me. He's not letting me be me.
- 14:05Is is what I'm gathering. He's.
- 14:06Yeah, I'm I'm the problem here. Real critical.
- 14:10Trying to have a good time on this on this Sunday evening.
- 14:14Yeah, like I said, I'm glad we're here Sunday.
- 14:16At least it's not Monday. Preach.
- 14:20Yeah, dude, we talked about it already.
- 14:22He's not spotting fastball. And when you're a two pitch
- 14:26pitcher, the the change up, it needs the fastball, it needs
- 14:30that it's it's it's not effective without it.
- 14:36I've got a number here for you. It's.
- 14:39Going to be ugly. Where is it?
- 14:42Let me make sure I got it. Batters had an O97 average last
- 14:47year against his change up. They're hitting 27273 against it
- 14:52this season. Yeah, dude, 'cause like he's hit
- 14:55it. They're they're hitting 462
- 14:57against his fastball, which is up from 111 last year.
- 15:02Yeah, dude, if you're at least the last few appearances he's
- 15:07been yanking, he's been yanking fastball like glove side and
- 15:13just not being able to throw for a strike.
- 15:16So it's like guys are able to sit in that change up.
- 15:18If you see a change up down, you can leave it down.
- 15:22If you see that change up up in the zone, you know the fastball
- 15:25is not going to be in the zone. It has to be the change up.
- 15:27So get after it. And that's what's been
- 15:29happening. He's walking guys.
- 15:32It's just, it hasn't looked good.
- 15:34He's not getting ahead. It's it's a lot of full counts.
- 15:36It's just, it's super ugly. I said it before, I'm I'm still
- 15:42on the fence of like whether he's it, whether New York is, is
- 15:46the right fit. I don't know if I'm just picking
- 15:50up on like his vibe and pressers and and interviews and stuff.
- 15:57It's hard to tell because there's, it's weird.
- 16:01Like there's, there's this level of like accountability that you
- 16:04feel like you want a player to have and take like take on an
- 16:07accountability ability with the struggles.
- 16:15But at the same time, like I, it's weird.
- 16:17I I don't, I can't pick up on on the way he's saying stuff.
- 16:22It just doesn't seem super accountable.
- 16:24And then it's it's also it's tough, man.
- 16:27Like it's not easy to again, coming over from Milwaukee, a
- 16:31long established career going to New York, but like he didn't do
- 16:39well in spring. Pete may have broke him, dude.
- 16:43That's very possible, but don't make me feel old.
- 16:46You said long established career.
- 16:48Don't make me feel old with this.
- 16:50How long was he in Milwaukee? How long was he in Milwaukee?
- 16:56Well, he's the setup man behind Hater for at least he was in.
- 17:01Milwaukee for six years, that's. What I was going to say 6.
- 17:07That's right, because that he would have been the setup guy
- 17:10for hater, like you said, 19 or he was at least in the mix in 19
- 17:18his first year, the year the that was the nationals World
- 17:22Series year. Not that's who they random
- 17:25tidbit, that's who they played in the wild card game.
- 17:28I don't know man, but. It's this is the guy that they
- 17:31this is the guy they changed the beard rule for.
- 17:34This guy. What?
- 17:38No, what it what's? Who was the most vocal about?
- 17:42It he wasn't that vocal about it, he didn't really say
- 17:47anything. It was.
- 17:48It was all the fans making fun of the way he looked because he
- 17:52doesn't have a chin, which was probably a part I would, I
- 17:56would. This headline This headline from
- 17:59ESPN Devin Williams help spur new facial hair rule I.
- 18:07Don't know. I don't know how how much I'm
- 18:09buying in on it. You say you're not buying Jeff
- 18:11Passan's article. Is that what you're telling me?
- 18:14No, because every every other article said that this this
- 18:18wasn't the the deciding factor. But whatever, it is what it is.
- 18:25I hopefully steps into a different role and and figures
- 18:29it out. But I got I don't have much
- 18:35expectation in that area. I got the I got short porch
- 18:41today. I I saw what is that?
- 18:50What's I can never remember the handle.
- 18:52But if you know, if you know, you know the New York Post short
- 18:57porch. It's like the it's like the the
- 18:59parody account they said they tweeted out today or today or
- 19:03yesterday or something, something New York, something,
- 19:09something to the effect of Yankees have announced that they
- 19:12are changing or that they are forcing Devin Williams to shave
- 19:19in hopes that it will motivate him to return complete status.
- 19:24I'm like, I mean, if there was a team that was going to get weird
- 19:27with their kind of already weird facial hair system that they've
- 19:34already made tweaks to this year, obviously it'd be the
- 19:37Yankees. So yeah, that was not a good
- 19:41look for me. But I use critical thinking.
- 19:43And I said, let me go back and check my source.
- 19:45And I read it again and realized that good for you.
- 19:49Not the case. How long do you think this
- 19:53lasts? How long, or I should say how
- 19:58long do you think it's till he's back in the close role?
- 20:03Because he's, he's not, he's not being demoted.
- 20:05I mean, he's not being sent down, I should say.
- 20:08He's just being given low leverage.
- 20:10Barring injury, can we just say post All Star break?
- 20:18You think that long? Yeah, really, Weaver's not going
- 20:22to. He's not going to lose this role
- 20:26unless he's hurt. He's not going to lose this
- 20:28role. This is going to have to be
- 20:29something of like Weaver has has closed out two or three
- 20:37consecutive games and it's a close one.
- 20:40And and you know, the bullpens tax, like we got to go to him
- 20:44again, like, and that's after, I don't know, at least 10 or 15
- 20:51solid appearances, which isn't looking to be happening anytime
- 20:56soon. Like he's clearly going to have
- 20:58to figure something out. I don't know man.
- 21:02But is Devin Williams not the de facto closer?
- 21:06And if he shows that he can, at least that he's not.
- 21:09He's not giving up run after run after run that just it's a it'd
- 21:14be a matter of time before he's back into the role that he was
- 21:16given. I think he would have to not
- 21:21only figure his stuff out, he would have to outperform Weaver.
- 21:31Which is hard to judge as a lower leverage guy at that
- 21:34point, yeah. Which is like, I don't, that's
- 21:37what I'm saying. Like I don't, I don't think it's
- 21:41going to be anytime soon. I don't think it's going to be
- 21:44anytime soon. I was.
- 21:45Thinking like a month but. You're saying post break?
- 21:51I was looking something up earlier because Michael Kay said
- 21:55something kind of crazy on the broadcast when they were talking
- 21:57about it. And he said that I didn't know
- 22:00this. It was like back in the late
- 22:0170s, Sparky Lyle won the Cy Young as a closer.
- 22:06And then the next year, the Yankees brought in Goose
- 22:13Gossage. And it's just like, it's just
- 22:16wild to hear that. It's wild to hear that, man.
- 22:20It's just it's, it's a crazy position.
- 22:22We talked about the last episode.
- 22:24It's it's a very one of the most difficult positions roles to
- 22:30have in baseball. And I I don't dislike Devin
- 22:35Williams and in fact, I think Mark Leiter junior is more of a
- 22:39bomb than Devin Williams is right now.
- 22:40So that's where I'm at. The bullpen is is shaky, man.
- 22:46They have Loaisiga potentially coming back soon.
- 22:50This Fernando Cruz cat, if you haven't watched that splitter
- 22:54that he throws, it's unreal. It's just it's kind of like a
- 22:59knuckleball. It's insane.
- 23:02That is likely going to step into a bigger role.
- 23:04So I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 23:08They put up some good runs this weekend.
- 23:09But like, outside of that, this bullpen does not give me a ton
- 23:13of faith. Nate, we are one month
- 23:19officially into the MLB season, having started having started
- 23:23the season with Opening Day on March 27th.
- 23:26It is. Did that happen fast for you or
- 23:29or slow? It's hard to say, right?
- 23:39I feel like a lot has happened in a month.
- 23:41A lot has happened. I'm kind of with you where
- 23:45you're like, how are we still in April?
- 23:48There's a, there's a lot of mixed emotions there, but the,
- 23:51the fact of the matter is we're a month in and to your point, a
- 23:55lot has happened. So let's let's sort of talk
- 23:58about where, where we're at a month in.
- 24:01And to those saying, well, how can you really take stock and
- 24:04anything that's going on a month into the season like we talked
- 24:08about? What else we have to go off
- 24:11well. Yeah, what else we have to go
- 24:13off of? But you got to keep in mind.
- 24:15Recording in June, I don't. Know, yeah, I mean, we could.
- 24:20We could, we could. I mean, if we, if we sign off
- 24:24here, if, if, if it's what the people prefer, we can, we can.
- 24:28I think that's rude. We lay low until July, baby,
- 24:32post post break. No, but the the, the fact of the
- 24:37matter is, is these games that people don't want to talk about
- 24:39it, they don't want to acknowledge it, they don't want
- 24:40to admit it, but these games are just as important as the games
- 24:43that happened in the second-half, last third of the
- 24:46season. Because like we talked about, if
- 24:48you're able to stack wins, you're able to offset the
- 24:52inevitable slide that always hits.
- 24:53No matter the team, no matter the division, no matter the
- 24:55league, the slide is coming for your team.
- 24:58Some, some teams are just in a, a perpetual slide, it seems.
- 25:06Colorado Rockies. I'm looking at you, Nate.
- 25:08Did you? I laughed when before we started
- 25:11recording, I laughed and I was laughing because I I'd actually
- 25:15looked. I did myself a disservice and I
- 25:17looked at the bottom of the National League West.
- 25:21Nate, they're 4 and 23. They've won one game on the
- 25:26road. For there there are one in 14 on
- 25:33the road they're. 69 negative, 69 in.
- 25:39The differential The Chicago White Sox, who were the worst
- 25:43team of all time last year, have won three more games.
- 25:53The Rockies could be on. Won't watch already?
- 25:57The a year, a season after the White Sox do it, is what you're
- 26:07saying? Is that where we're at?
- 26:09I think that's where we're at. They're closing out with the
- 26:12Braves. They're closing out the month
- 26:13with the Braves. Wow.
- 26:15I mean, talk about a chance to get back on track.
- 26:22No, I'm just. Kidding, Braves are 7 and Braves
- 26:24are 7 and three in the last 10. Give them their give them their
- 26:26credit, give them their credit. But looking around the league
- 26:28though, anything, anything jump out at you at month in?
- 26:36I knew the Orioles pitching was going to be was going to be
- 26:39rough. I just didn't expect them to be
- 26:46this this bad this early, running out the bottom of the AO
- 26:52E at 10 and 17. Orioles fans are, and I, I, I
- 26:57hate going back to this. Well, but Orioles fans are down
- 27:00real bad right now because I'm seeing too many tweets being
- 27:03like, man, we just really need Zach Eflin to get back.
- 27:06Do you hear yourselves? Do you?
- 27:08Is that is that your savior? Is that what?
- 27:10Is that where we're at? Baltimore Orioles?
- 27:13Come on. That's a low.
- 27:15It has to be. I've been throwing way too much
- 27:18shade at Zac Eflin but it's it's more.
- 27:20Yeah. I mean that's it's more.
- 27:21About the state of their staff. Yeah, that's what it is.
- 27:23It's absolutely a ricochet. But it's a valid point because
- 27:29that guy should not be here to save the day for you.
- 27:34It's just rough, man. I you got to wonder.
- 27:42You got to wonder when. I mean, I know it's not even may
- 27:46yet, but like how long of a leash does Brandon I'd have?
- 27:50Let's be honest, I think that's a legitimate question.
- 27:54How long of a leash do you think he has?
- 28:00I mean. Is it on him though?
- 28:02We spent we spent all offseason saying all do something, do
- 28:08something. Absolutely think it's on the
- 28:10front office but someone heads are heads have to roll.
- 28:14As they always do. But it's just, it just seems
- 28:17unfair. It does it really seems unfair
- 28:20because this is the guy who we talked years ago about you, you
- 28:25brought back after, after how many seasons of just total slop.
- 28:30You're like, all right, you, you earned, you earned this an
- 28:34opportunity to yeah, you earned this opportunity to to ride it
- 28:37out with these young guns and a, a, a team that we're going to
- 28:41supplement with talent. They didn't do that.
- 28:43They just they continued to ride this, this train of like 18 year
- 28:49old blondies that look like they're 12.
- 28:53And they said this is what we've got.
- 28:55Best of luck. And while they haven't exactly
- 28:58been terrible, you're you need more than than that.
- 29:02Yeah, the roster configuration is just.
- 29:05It's bad, but. Because as we saw, as we saw in
- 29:11the postseason back-to-back years, young, young talent can
- 29:17only get you so far. You need experience, you need
- 29:20veterans, you need guys that have been around the block.
- 29:22They didn't do that. And if they, if they, if they
- 29:24consider Tyler O'Neill that guy, yeah, I hate to break it to you,
- 29:29that's not going to get it. It's been terrible, by the way.
- 29:32Terrible. He had his opening day shine and
- 29:36really hasn't been in the news since.
- 29:37So. You want to popcorn this or do
- 29:40you want me to hit you with another one?
- 29:42Hit me with another one. That's a good point in the chat,
- 29:47Laura in the chat. Well, last thing on the OS last
- 29:50thing on the OS, Laura makes a good point.
- 29:51Hyde changes the lineup almost every day.
- 29:53I'm seeing a lot of that from Royals fans that they're just
- 29:56like, even if the lineup is bad, give us give us a little
- 30:00consistency, like give these guys a chance to because I mean,
- 30:05you and I both know sometimes you need to, to get settled in a
- 30:11position in the lineup. Like if you're, if you're going
- 30:13to be a bottom half guy, you know, you're going to get
- 30:16attacked pretty early. So like that changes your
- 30:18approach. If you're going to, if you're
- 30:21one through 4 guy, you're going to get approached differently.
- 30:24But if you're if you're constantly being bounced around,
- 30:27you have no one, you're not, you're not, you don't have any
- 30:30consistency in a slot. And two, you don't have the
- 30:32opportunity to mentally prepare for how you're going to be
- 30:35approached as a hitter in a given slot because you're going
- 30:38to be in a different slot the next night.
- 30:40I agree. I, I, I'm not saying he's
- 30:43blameless. I'm not saying that he deserves
- 30:45all the blame, but it's a little bit different when when you're
- 30:51managing a team with expectations and he's been there
- 30:55long enough where majority of the seasons didn't have
- 30:59expectations. And I feel like the sample size
- 31:02has been big enough. We're we're, we're over 2 years
- 31:07at this point with young talent and a lot of hype and a lot of
- 31:12excitement and especially new ownership and new vibes around
- 31:16the city. Like I just don't think the
- 31:20leash is super long. I saw it's not all his fault,
- 31:24but. I saw a tweet or a comment or
- 31:27something talking about how Orioles fans got duped by
- 31:31Rubenstein's optimism, saying he's going to come in and and
- 31:35chain change, change the narrative, and people bought it,
- 31:39including myself. I was like, all right, this guy,
- 31:42this guy seems legit. It's tough, man.
- 31:45Kind of like the Stevie Cohen route, but Stevie Cohen actually
- 31:48backed it up. And he was, I mean, he's in the
- 31:51crowd, he's tossing out hats, he's in the splash zone.
- 31:56It's tough to see. It's tough to see.
- 31:57Maybe we need to get Ryan on soon and and kind of pick his
- 32:00brain that he's so optimistic, but.
- 32:03Ryan needs to be manager maybe I think this is where is where
- 32:07this. Maybe.
- 32:08This story goes next. Anyway, I was, I was starting to
- 32:11get after it, but how about the A's at at 500 ball right now?
- 32:16You know, go ahead. And that's solid.
- 32:18You don't need to convince me, guy.
- 32:22You need to take a look in the mirror because.
- 32:24I don't need to take a look in the mirror, I just.
- 32:26Don't have You need to look, you need to take a look in the
- 32:29mirror. Is what you need to do.
- 32:33You're insane. There's a happy medium of the
- 32:36way we need to look at this team and the way you're looking at it
- 32:39and the way a lot of people have been looking at it in the past.
- 32:42But anyway, I don't want to I don't want to waste time on
- 32:45that. I'd like to talk about it looks
- 32:49good. It looks impressive.
- 32:50I get that it's, you know, it's a minor league ballpark and
- 32:53maybe the offense is over performing, but like, I don't
- 32:56know, man, I like the young kids.
- 32:58I like that Severino has like what I would assume stepped into
- 33:04like a pretty cool unique roll over there.
- 33:09Seems like he's doing pretty well with it.
- 33:11So that was my other thing that I just looking at this kind of
- 33:17jumped out at me. You got anything?
- 33:23Sorry, I was trying to confirm a stat.
- 33:26You said A's and who did you follow up with?
- 33:29No one. Just ace.
- 33:32Just. Ace, you're just so locked in
- 33:33today, man. Just got the got the beach
- 33:36mentality that you're trying to you still got sand in in your
- 33:39shorts over there sand. Everywhere, dude, no, but you're
- 33:43talking about the apes keeping it in that division, though.
- 33:45I was going to say I'm, I'm, I'm pleasantly surprised with what
- 33:48the Mariners have done this far. Kind of I, I think people had
- 33:52them in the mix and I it's a month in, not saying they're
- 33:58running away with the West by double digit games, but the fact
- 34:03that I mean, the Rangers are doing, I think what we thought
- 34:05they would do the Astros right there sort of in in the hunt in
- 34:11that division as well. And I think that's going to be
- 34:13the case. But the Mariners being the ones
- 34:15that are out front a month in is, is surprising.
- 34:17The Angels, Whatever. I mean, there's guys with it
- 34:21going back to the Mariners. There's guys that are hitting
- 34:23that. This is what we've said, This is
- 34:25what's been said for a few years now is that like somebody has to
- 34:28start hitting there and it's starting to happen.
- 34:31Not Julio Rodriguez, but. Which is, I don't want to go
- 34:37down this rabbit hole, but what's going on there, man?
- 34:41Like I've. I've been saying it, I what's
- 34:44what's happening? I've been saying it like.
- 34:46Where? When does the narrative change
- 34:49with Julio Rodriguez? And I'm not trying like I'm I'm
- 34:52really not trying to to to crap on the guy.
- 34:55I'm really not. But she.
- 34:58Got a 674 OPS you struck out 31 times already I mean.
- 35:07What is it about? Are we is are.
- 35:17Are we going to start going down like a Louise Robert path?
- 35:20At least Louise Robert had like injuries to blame.
- 35:24I don't know what's going on with this, this fall off.
- 35:28I know it's early. I know that I, I, I may look at
- 35:32Julio Rodriguez in a different light than most fans.
- 35:35I just don't. I don't see enough there.
- 35:41I think he was just overhyped. I I think it was a disservice to
- 35:44him. I don't like I he he's over the
- 35:48course of his very short career, like he's putting up good
- 35:51numbers, but not to the superstar.
- 35:53No, not to the extent that people I think are are trying to
- 35:56make it out to be. Yeah.
- 35:58Which is not his fault, but it no, it's sort of unfair in a
- 36:03way. Cal Raleigh and Jorge Polanco
- 36:07are clearly the ones carrying the load here.
- 36:12Cal Raleigh's carrying a load for sure.
- 36:19I mean, not not that. Not that we got to rehash this
- 36:24because this has already been one of the more prominent
- 36:27storylines thus far, but the NL West, dude.
- 36:34This I don't. I can't explain the Giants.
- 36:36I don't know what. Juggernaut Yeah, I know you
- 36:39can't, can you? You don't like, you don't like
- 36:41giving the credits their due, but they don't need they don't
- 36:46need your credit essentially, that's what they're that's what
- 36:49they're. I ain't stressed.
- 36:50That's what they're saying. You you prematurely, prematurely
- 36:55calling for a fall off in San Francisco.
- 36:58Of course, of course, there's a fall off coming.
- 37:01Go ahead, put that on record. I'll put it on record.
- 37:04Go ahead, put that on record. I'll say the 27th.
- 37:07April 27th soon, soon to be the 28th I'll.
- 37:11Put that on record, Fall off's coming.
- 37:17How long you think this? How long you think this train
- 37:19stays on the tracks before the fall off?
- 37:21Let me just see. I got to see how this is
- 37:24happening. Let me look at some stats here.
- 37:26Tell you what, Wilmer Flores making a name for face of
- 37:30baseball? Yeah, early, at least was early
- 37:33on. Legit I'm that's that's my
- 37:36bright spot and friend of the pod yeah of.
- 37:39Course stop. I'm trying to.
- 37:40I'm trying to pick him up in fantasy.
- 37:42Don't just say, he's saying. He's.
- 37:45Say he's fighting to remain adequate.
- 37:48Say he's fighting to be relevant.
- 37:51Just does not swing and miss very often.
- 37:53He's fighting for his career is what I'm crazy.
- 37:58That doesn't matter in fantasy, but.
- 38:01I'm seeing in the Chad Giants will fall off, Padres will fall
- 38:04off. I not so fast on the Padres.
- 38:06They made they made a good point.
- 38:09I, I don't remember where I where I heard it, where I saw
- 38:11it, but talking about the injury, injury bug, like if you
- 38:14can, if you can skate through like you, you, you're not at
- 38:18full strength and you're holding your own in the toughest
- 38:22division of baseball. Yeah, Logan Webb looking real
- 38:29good. Looks like he's back to what we
- 38:33saw a few years ago. I mean, what do you mean back to
- 38:39what we saw, Logan, I thought Logan Webb has been.
- 38:42I don't think he was great last year.
- 38:46I could be wrong, I don't know. A.
- 38:48Good A good Logan Webb is still. I don't pay attention to.
- 38:54He led the NL and he. Was tall.
- 38:56He was solid last year. Yeah, 202 hundred innings.
- 38:59An All Star 347 URA, what's your point before that three to
- 39:03529-0303. So like, yeah, still it was not
- 39:09vintage Logan Webb, but still very, very good.
- 39:13But yeah, he's, I mean, he's let.
- 39:16Me see how many games have they played at home?
- 39:18They've played thirteen games at home.
- 39:21They're doing well on the road. They're ten and six on the road.
- 39:25Yeah. Some of these things you just
- 39:26like, you wonder, I don't know, you wonder what that ballpark,
- 39:32the way it plays now versus the way it plays in June and July.
- 39:36And it's just, you know, other teams are eventually going to
- 39:41start hitting there. I think so.
- 39:45Even in the NL Cincinnati Reds. Yeah, look at that.
- 39:51Nate Second highest run differential in baseball.
- 39:57That's legit. Behind the 42 + 42 of the
- 40:01Yankees Tigers. Those two, that's it.
- 40:07Yeah. Tied with the Cubs, at least in
- 40:11that category. Six and six at home.
- 40:15You'd like to see that get a little better.
- 40:16But this is what Tito does, man. This is what Tito does.
- 40:20We knew this was coming. We knew that there was a new a
- 40:23new day. I think Hunter Green is still
- 40:28looked great, hasn't he? He sure has.
- 40:34Must be nice. He's coming for that Cy Young.
- 40:37Yeah, must be nice having him in fantasy.
- 40:40It's been. It's been fun to watch, huh?
- 40:44It's been everything I I hoped for and more.
- 40:47Yeah, I'll say that. Yeah.
- 40:50Insane. Let me see what else is going on
- 40:57in here. I don't know W you're right, man
- 41:01them I we might have to look at that as the best division in
- 41:06baseball, like moving forward for at least a few years.
- 41:15Well, I mean, what what would rival it?
- 41:17The American League East, sort of the the previous placeholder
- 41:25unless something changes with unless something changes with
- 41:32the Orioles. Yeah, if if the Blue Jays don't
- 41:36look. Blue Jays don't have any.
- 41:40I I wouldn't, I, I would say not exactly the brightest future.
- 41:44I mean Vladdy, I think it was everything they could do and
- 41:48then some to get Vladdy to stay put.
- 41:50Beau Bichette looks depressed, by the way.
- 41:52Watching him all weekend I was like, bro, you look like you, a
- 41:55shell of yourself. And we just got done talking
- 41:58about the Orioles. So that leaves, I mean, not to
- 42:01play Homer here, but like if, if the Red Sox are back to their
- 42:05ways, if the Yankees continue to find ways, I mean, whether or
- 42:10not a guy like Juan Soto's in the lineup or not, if they
- 42:12continue to find find ways to win games, then it's sort of a
- 42:17top heavy division. But you're looking at four teams
- 42:22out of the five in the national inquest being a a legitimate
- 42:26threat to take that division. Yeah, yeah, Then at least also
- 42:33solid, I would say then at least has now surpassed the AL East as
- 42:38far as competitiveness. So I mean, look at Miami 12 and
- 42:4315. Like, who'd have thunk that?
- 42:46You could have, you could have told me that they were the one
- 42:48that was 4 and 23. And I would have been like,
- 42:50yeah, I see that. But 12 and 15 like that's
- 42:53respectable. For the Marlins, yeah.
- 42:56Yeah, I think the Nats are, we've said this before like
- 43:00they're they're on the come up. I don't think they're in the in
- 43:04wild card territory at all, but like they're making moves and
- 43:08and they have some studs and yeah, man, I mean, the NL, it's
- 43:13just, it's, it's just so much better than the AL And things
- 43:16are just like even this early, it's just easy to see that
- 43:21you're really evident in a lot of different places.
- 43:29I told you the twins were done by the way, I'm I'm calling
- 43:32that. I'm calling that now too.
- 43:34Call that early. That's an early call.
- 43:38It's an early call. Oh, I mean you yeah, you already
- 43:40made that proclamation, so you're really just reminding
- 43:42people you're not you're not updating that take you.
- 43:45You said that. Yeah, you said that a while ago.
- 43:48That's bold. After after what, sweeping this
- 43:51weekend. I.
- 43:52Don't know, Correa might get released just playing Buxton.
- 43:57Looks like he's kind of starting to find some low power surge
- 43:59though. Ran into.
- 44:01Yeah, but the pessimist in me, Yeah, the pessimist in me
- 44:06wonders for how long? Yeah, yeah, I, I think I saw a
- 44:15brief appearance by Class A yesterday.
- 44:20I didn't see how he did. Interested to see how that
- 44:25situation goes forward for Cleveland.
- 44:28That's something to watch. But I mean, we got to give the
- 44:32Tigers their flowers and they're they're hitting the ball.
- 44:36They're hitting the ball. Casey Mize looks like he's like,
- 44:38really starting to settle in. What's that staff look like
- 44:42right now? I mean those three, like if you
- 44:46say that that's that's going to carry it moving forward.
- 44:49Scubble, Mize, Flaherty, Rhys Olson Looks good.
- 44:54Dude, second best rotation in in baseball.
- 44:57I mean, if you're just looking at ERA28-O to the Mets 253.
- 45:03This one I trust, I trust this rotation more than what the Mets
- 45:07are doing because, you know, school's a guy.
- 45:11We saw what Flaherty has in him. Seems like that just Detroit is
- 45:15like the right place for him. And I maybe I'm a little biased
- 45:22series. I snagged him in fantasy and
- 45:24he's been doing well but KC Mies looks like.
- 45:27Finally getting to the point where it's like, OK, this is,
- 45:31this is kind of what we were hoping to see.
- 45:35Him and Torkelson have like this like same arc that they're like
- 45:38they're following together like 2 first round picks that like
- 45:43just haven't lived up to the hype and then finally they're
- 45:46starting to go. I like what I'm seeing, man.
- 45:51I really do. I'd like to see Riley Green get
- 45:55it going, though. I'd like to see, I'd like to see
- 45:59him get it, get it hot because he's, I think like the, the
- 46:03peace. I think he's like the if he goes
- 46:07and he is what he's supposed to be and the Tigers are going to
- 46:12be a problem. Which reminds me, checking in on
- 46:18our pre season predictions, did I please tell me I didn't sleep
- 46:23on the Tigers? I think I slept on them.
- 46:27Well, I had the Royals. Winning the division?
- 46:30Yeah, I think I slept on the Tigers.
- 46:37Did you had him in the postseason?
- 46:38No. The Tigers let me see.
- 46:43They'd be sick. I'd be proud of that.
- 46:47Nate most certainly did not have them in the postseason. 3rd I
- 46:51still have the guardians taking. That division, neither of us had
- 46:54them in the postseason. That's a, that's a, that's a
- 46:59tough look. Well, I mean, we're a month in,
- 47:02as we talked about. Yeah, yeah, it's chill.
- 47:04It's not even May. It's not even May.
- 47:06Not even May. It's got to be May.
- 47:10It's April. Zach Mckinstry.
- 47:14What's going on there? I really regret, I'm just
- 47:20looking at my pics, Sorry. I really regret giving the
- 47:23Orioles any sort of notoriety this year.
- 47:26I I should have known. I should have known.
- 47:29And for the people that are saying, well, well, guys, you
- 47:32just said it's not even, it's not even me yet.
- 47:34No, the Orioles are who we thought they were.
- 47:39I'm, I'm going to go ahead and go on record April 27th.
- 47:41I'll go on record myself. No, I'm not going to call them
- 47:43dead. I'm just saying that they are
- 47:45who we thought they were. And you can, you can interpret
- 47:48that however you want. What they were, who we who we
- 47:50thought they were. And however this season ends up
- 47:53for them, just know that that that's what I thought was going
- 47:56to happen because they are who we thought they were.
- 48:00Why? Do I have this sense that that
- 48:06the Astros are just kind of hanging around?
- 48:09Because that's what they do. That's just what they do, right?
- 48:12Story every season. Like they've been doing this.
- 48:16They've been doing this and like, and then your Don has been
- 48:20miserable and he's been miserable.
- 48:23Yeah, well, I think he just, I think he went yard today.
- 48:26That's what I'm saying. He's coming.
- 48:27Yeah. Oh, he's coming.
- 48:28He's he's he's coming. I, I swear I just had whoa, I
- 48:32had just had little Deja vu. I, I flashback to the clip that
- 48:37you put out maybe a year or two ago where the what was the year
- 48:41that the Astro started off just horrendous.
- 48:44Do you know you remember this? I think it was last year, was
- 48:46it? Was it?
- 48:47Last year and you were like, so all the people out there talking
- 48:50noise on the on the Astros, just sit tight.
- 48:53Just sit tight. And what happened?
- 48:55They literally turned into the hottest team in baseball for
- 48:59what felt like the better part of 2-3 months.
- 49:01Yeah, man. And I feel like that's maybe
- 49:04not, that's not what's fully going to happen this year.
- 49:08But to your point, if you if you've got your Don coming,
- 49:10they're certainly not going to get worse.
- 49:12Yeah, they're not, they're not running away with the division
- 49:15by any means, but and they're going to have to do it
- 49:17differently. We talked about this before.
- 49:19I just, it's just interesting that you haven't seen anything
- 49:25out of them that's like spectacular.
- 49:27They're just having around 14 and 13.
- 49:30You've got absolutely nothing out of your out of your All
- 49:35Star. You've got nothing out of the
- 49:38out of the staff really. Well, Hunter Brown's been great.
- 49:40But yeah, like, it's it's just there.
- 49:43There's just a matter of time before like Framber Valdez goes
- 49:47on like a like a 30 scoreless streak, innings, inning streak,
- 49:52you know what I mean? Like there's just something
- 49:53that's coming. And then the Astros just bang.
- 49:56All of a sudden you get 2-3 game lead in the division so.
- 50:01And then we get to the offseason where Kyle is asking, are we
- 50:06finally at the point where the Astros window has has come to a
- 50:10close? I think this is the year and
- 50:13then Kyle and then Kyle is is looking like a fool at the end
- 50:18of yet of another season. But yeah, looking at the looking
- 50:25at the numbers here, Reyes, this is surprising the right word.
- 50:34Ya, Ray, they're 8th and all the baseball 346.
- 50:37The Giants 7th, Royals, Rangers, Astros, Padres, Padres.
- 50:41We already talked about their staff is gross right now and
- 50:47they're like we said, as a team, they're just not even at full
- 50:50health. So curious to see what that
- 50:54turns into when they finally get to that point.
- 50:58Reds Knight Reds top top ten staff in baseball.
- 51:02Love to see that. Feel like the Phillies are
- 51:08coming soon. They're due.
- 51:11They're due. That offense has looked kind of
- 51:14bleak. Put up 10 yesterday and I went
- 51:19in tonight's game. They have a run differential of
- 51:210. So I mean, they're, they're
- 51:23about as mid as it gets right now, yeah.
- 51:26Five and five in the last 10, yeah, 6:00 and 9:00 on the road.
- 51:32I mean, that's just yeah, I'm, I'm everyone's talking about how
- 51:36like great of a start the Mets have had.
- 51:38And I agree, I'm not disagreeing there, But like that division is
- 51:42just it's not going to be a landslide at all.
- 51:46It's no matter what. This is a division to watch the
- 51:50entire season and I could see them just rotating on those
- 51:55types of months. You know, Mets are potentially
- 51:59going to finish this month with the 2020 wins.
- 52:01Like I could see the fillings, Phillies having a 20 win month,
- 52:04see the Braves having a 20 win month.
- 52:05It's just going to be cool to watch the whole time.
- 52:10I'm not dead on the Braves yet. I can't be.
- 52:14I have to ride this train because I had them winning the
- 52:16division. I think I did too.
- 52:18In the face of the critics calling for said landslide on
- 52:24behalf of the Mets, I just can't.
- 52:26I can't pull myself to to get to that point.
- 52:31No, you actually had the Phillies one in the East.
- 52:33Did I? Yeah, that's right.
- 52:36That was the last minute change up.
- 52:38Yeah, I had the Phillies in the east, Cubs in the central D,
- 52:40backs in the West. I ain't dead on that idea.
- 52:43Which was which was a take that I was not willing.
- 52:46I also was not willing to to come around on.
- 52:49But you know, credit to you. Great to see you name or Nate, a
- 52:53name that I want to throw out there.
- 52:57Just kind of kind of putting some feelers out there.
- 53:03Michael Bush, 11th Best OPS in Baseball, 9:30.
- 53:09Legit legit comes to legit man. I feel like we mentioned his
- 53:18name more than once coming into this year saying keep an eye out
- 53:22on, keep an eye on Michael Bush. Yeah, yeah, I like what's going
- 53:28on over there. Not a whole lot going wrong.
- 53:31Jonathan Aranda, 968 for the Rays.
- 53:38This is what they do, bro. It's it's so annoying.
- 53:41Like they're they have these names that are just like
- 53:44prospects that it seems like no one really talks about.
- 53:48And then all of a sudden, bang, they're on the scene.
- 53:50They look amazing. And then they sprinkle in some
- 53:53vets that just maybe haven't had like the greatest track record
- 53:58elsewhere. Wasn't he a twin for a long
- 54:00time, Aranda? No, he's only He's been in the
- 54:04Rays organization for just a few years.
- 54:08Is there another Aranda that played for the Twins?
- 54:13That's going to be some phenomenal recall if so.
- 54:21The Aranda twins, Who's the other twin?
- 54:23Or wait, he's a Twin. Hold on.
- 54:29Not a Minnesota Twin, but like a Twin with another Aranda.
- 54:32I I'm I'm trying, I'm getting to the bottom of it.
- 54:36I like this. I don't think, no, I don't think
- 54:39there's no not a Twin, not a not a, not a brother twin and was
- 54:48never a Minnesota Twin. He has AO91 batting average
- 54:55against the Twins. That's all I have for you on
- 55:00Aranda and the Twins. Take me to Baseball Reference
- 55:03right now. He wasn't a twin dude.
- 55:07He was. He's an only child now.
- 55:15I'm kidding, I get what you're saying, but.
- 55:18Swear there's another Rhonda that I've anyway, but this is
- 55:22what the Rays do, man. They just have young guys that
- 55:24just you never hear of them and then all of a sudden they're on
- 55:27the scene, they're super successful and then they just
- 55:30sprinkle in a couple other vets and and they're just in the
- 55:33hunt. It's just what the Rays do.
- 55:36And now you place them in a ballpark that seems to be an
- 55:39absolute frenzy offensively, and they're going to be in the
- 55:44conversation this year. Big surprise.
- 55:52Wanted to look real quickly here.
- 55:58A name that I want like. Is this like a semi semi Canon
- 56:05list or what do we got here? No, I would never.
- 56:09I would never, I would never pull out the canons on a Sunday.
- 56:16This is the Lord's Day. I wouldn't, I wouldn't pull out
- 56:19the canons on the on the Lord's Day.
- 56:21It just feels that way a little. Bit it does, it does.
- 56:24I'm just trying to give credit where credit's due and and
- 56:26again, this is looking at the body of work through the through
- 56:30the course of a month. The canons are more of more
- 56:33often than not, yeah, like the last week or two.
- 56:39And obviously when I was doing the canons the first few times,
- 56:42that's all we really had to go off of because that's how long,
- 56:44that's how old the season was. But as, as the season goes on,
- 56:51it'll be like a week or two. So don't be hitting me up.
- 56:55Which by the way, I've had people message me like it was a
- 56:58it was atrocious that that such and such.
- 57:04I like it. I like it.
- 57:06They're holding you accountable. They're holding me accountable.
- 57:08And you know what? It was requested it, it, or
- 57:15rather it was. It was relayed to me that it
- 57:17was. It was a shame that Dylan Moore
- 57:22didn't get the cannon. So Dylan Moore, Dylan Moore,
- 57:29Credit Cannon. Well, it's like an hour and a
- 57:34half until Monday, so it's fine. Anyway, a name that I wanted to
- 57:42we already mentioned Hunter Brown, Mackenzie Gore.
- 57:49Yeah. In fact, the then that's a
- 57:53couple names in that's well outside of today.
- 57:55I think he had a he had a rough go of it, but Mitchell Parker
- 57:57too couple couple of the guys in that in that rotation looking
- 58:03rather good this year. Metro Parker again outside of
- 58:06today was off to I mean without without getting into like credit
- 58:13Canon territory here. To your point, let's look at
- 58:18this quick game Hawk here real quick, and I know you're going
- 58:21whoa, this is literally credit Canon verbiage, but.
- 58:28Yeah, man. I mean, his last start out
- 58:30before today, 8 innings against the the star-studded Baltimore
- 58:36Orioles, 8 shut, and he's looks good pretty much every other
- 58:44start of the way. I got a legitimate question.
- 58:47No knock. No knock here.
- 58:49Do we have a mustache problem? Like, is it an epidemic?
- 58:54Yeah. It's not Could be.
- 58:58Culture wide here. I I kind of want to blame Morgan
- 59:01Wall in a little bit. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:06I mean, the look, the reality is, and not that we got to go
- 59:11like this isn't like a boom or take, but like men used to go to
- 59:15war and now they're making TikTok dances.
- 59:19So there's got to be a correlation to like testosterone
- 59:23here now, right? I mean, at the end of the day, I
- 59:27mean, that's why, that's why these mustaches look a little
- 59:30weak. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:33I just, I don't, I don't think everyone, I don't think, I don't
- 59:40think it should be as as, as utilized as it is.
- 59:45But if you keep pitching this way.
- 59:46Just what's that? What's that quote from Jurassic
- 59:49Park? They they spent so much time
- 59:51figuring out whether they could that they didn't stop to think
- 59:56they. Should what a bar?
- 59:59That's kind of where we're at here with the the mustache
- 1:00:02epidemic across baseball. What a bar.
- 1:00:06Do you think Devin Williams makes a change to a mustache
- 1:00:11make? Maybe takes a go with that?
- 1:00:14Maybe that fixes things. Brothers, you got to change
- 1:00:16something. We got to shake something up.
- 1:00:21Got to change something. Any other?
- 1:00:22Any other thoughts on on the state of the league a month end
- 1:00:28of the season? No, I mean that's that was a
- 1:00:34good, that was a good round table discussion there.
- 1:00:36My Orioles prediction of of leading the league in homers
- 1:00:41really took a turn. Oh, they're tied.
- 1:00:45Tied for ninth with 33. The Dodgers are good.
- 1:00:48Half of those on opening day. The Dodgers and Yankees are tied
- 1:00:52for first with 45 apiece, so that's that's not looking great
- 1:00:59for for me, but at least I'm not an Orioles fan.
- 1:01:05Anyway, any other thoughts? That's it.
- 1:01:11Closing the book, Tyler Glass, now for the second straight
- 1:01:15outing, was removed early due to an injury.
- 1:01:21Right shoulder discomfort is what I'm is what I'm I'm.
- 1:01:24Hearing I couldn't tell I was watching Sunday Night Countdown
- 1:01:27for Sunday Night Baseball and which, by the way, I don't love.
- 1:01:33Sunday Night Countdown is for Sunday Night Football.
- 1:01:37Change ESPN is so freaking lazy. Change it for baseball, please.
- 1:01:43Anyway, I was watching that and they're like running through the
- 1:01:46league and they're showing highlights and he's like, it's
- 1:01:48in between innings. And then he like you can see
- 1:01:51that he like bends. I saw it as him like bending
- 1:01:53over to get out of the way from like the catcher's throw down in
- 1:01:57between innings. And then all of a sudden he's
- 1:02:00walking off the field. And I was like, I thought he was
- 1:02:02just bending over out of the way.
- 1:02:04So now it's a shoulder thing. So it's back shoulder of it's,
- 1:02:14they don't need to be full of strength.
- 1:02:18This is why I hammered the under on 105 wins this year because I
- 1:02:23think it's just load management across their entire roster.
- 1:02:27Yeah. I think they're going to win a
- 1:02:28lot of ball games. They're still going to win 90
- 1:02:30games. I just, I don't think one O 5 is
- 1:02:32in the mix because you have a lot of these names.
- 1:02:35They're just you don't need them the whole time.
- 1:02:38They don't need a full season. Yeah, And, and I get it.
- 1:02:41Look, we talked about how deep the Dodgers were and I'm not I'm
- 1:02:44not like walking that back. I'm not changing my stance on
- 1:02:47how good I think the Dodgers are going to be this year.
- 1:02:49But this is like we've already said, this is now this, this
- 1:02:54makes it like a multiple times this season where we've already
- 1:02:59said like they'll be fine. Like, yeah, that's true, but
- 1:03:05let's try to, let's try to like dial that, the need to say that
- 1:03:11back a little bit if you're the Dodgers, like, yeah, we'll be
- 1:03:13fine. We'll be fine.
- 1:03:14We're deep, We're deep. Another guy goes down, another
- 1:03:17guy goes down. Like, like you're deep, but.
- 1:03:24Just be cautious. I don't know it's.
- 1:03:25Cautious. It's tough, man.
- 1:03:28I'm glad I'm not a Tyler Glass now fantasy owner.
- 1:03:32I wouldn't want to manage that. Shots fired.
- 1:03:36Shots fired. Other In other news, Jaron Duran
- 1:03:40was held back in a confrontation today.
- 1:03:43I don't know if you saw that, but apparently there's a fan in
- 1:03:45in Cleveland that was allegedly heckling him regarding his
- 1:03:51mental health issues. Oh boy, just a.
- 1:03:54Loser move, but I do want to give in.
- 1:03:57Cleveland, which is a little shocking.
- 1:04:02That's Cleveland. I just.
- 1:04:03Thought Kyle was just filled with like.
- 1:04:06Careful, careful. I thought everyone was polite
- 1:04:09there. I don't.
- 1:04:09Oh, I see what you're saying. I got you.
- 1:04:10I thought you were just saying, yeah, OK, I got you.
- 1:04:14No, But to to your point, I, I I do want to give credit to the
- 1:04:18Guardian fans because apparently this was the only guy nobody
- 1:04:22else was joining in. And in fact, from what?
- 1:04:26Because I was, I was watch, well, I was watching the game
- 1:04:29driving back today, but I I had the game on, sure, and I wasn't.
- 1:04:33You think, you think Meredith's going to sit there and let me
- 1:04:35watch a game as I'm driving down 95?
- 1:04:42No, not. Out my wife does.
- 1:04:46Well, you also don't stop at at at stop signs in your
- 1:04:50neighborhood, so. It's a neighborhood.
- 1:04:51Thing. I'm not surprised.
- 1:04:53Anyway. Authorities, if you're out there
- 1:04:57listening, I can, if you read, if you contact me, I can give
- 1:05:01you this man's address and we can handle this, handle this
- 1:05:03like gentleman. You can have him removed from
- 1:05:07the neighborhood. No, but they, they turned on
- 1:05:11this guy. They started booing this guy
- 1:05:14that was heckling Jaron Duran. See.
- 1:05:16That sounds. Like they all, they all join
- 1:05:18classic Cleveland. They all joined forces and and
- 1:05:21got this guy today, they're booing him on the way out.
- 1:05:23He got removed from the from the park.
- 1:05:26Don't know if a ban of any sorts is is incoming for that
- 1:05:31particular individual, but just a loser move.
- 1:05:34Like especially in light of the documentary that came out and
- 1:05:38everything. And not to say that everybody
- 1:05:40has to be aware of what was like shared in the documentary,
- 1:05:42because unless you're a Red Sox fan or like just a die hard
- 1:05:45baseball fan, you may not. It's also a loser move to like
- 1:05:49be aware of it because clearly you're.
- 1:05:50True. Yeah, if you're heckling him,
- 1:05:52you're Yeah, you're aware of the issue.
- 1:05:54So, like, just just be better. Just be better, man.
- 1:05:57Come on. And lastly, do you wanted to
- 1:06:01bring up a a, a story about Jaycee Escara?
- 1:06:06Yeah, dude. Sick, sick story.
- 1:06:09Yankees backup catcher hit his first career home run today and
- 1:06:17he's 30. Bro was drafted I think twice.
- 1:06:23He was drafted in like 2015, 2017, but he was like the Super
- 1:06:31late was like 15th round with the Orioles.
- 1:06:34Didn't pan out. Spent some years in minor league
- 1:06:38system. Started playing Indy ball while
- 1:06:40he was playing Indy ball. He's a substitute teacher and an
- 1:06:43Uber driver and then last year gets a minor league deal with
- 1:06:48the Yankees, looks really good in camp, breaks camp with the
- 1:06:52big league team this year as the backup catcher.
- 1:06:55And today hit his first big league home run and it was a
- 1:06:59shot. It was a shot.
- 1:07:01So it's cool. It's a good story, man.
- 1:07:03Like it, it's 30 years old. This guy's not he's a backup
- 1:07:07catcher. It's this is probably the
- 1:07:09highlight of of his baseball career.
- 1:07:11And it's just I think it's very neat and I don't know if any
- 1:07:16guys listening that maybe their wives like don't know a ton
- 1:07:21about baseball, kind of like mine.
- 1:07:23She always. Likes to like fired, shots
- 1:07:26fired. Always.
- 1:07:27But she likes to latch on. She likes to latch on he.
- 1:07:32Doubled down, he said. Yeah, I'll let her know.
- 1:07:35She likes to latch on on stories and and like, she loves
- 1:07:38underdogs. So like she was like, who who's
- 1:07:40like the Yankee I need to be rooting for this year?
- 1:07:43And I was like, it's no better story than Jaycee Escara, so.
- 1:07:48Yeah, how many, how many ABS is this guy expected to get?
- 1:07:51Not much I mean I think he's he's gotten into like 9 or 10
- 1:07:54games already this year, but that's like a late blow out AB
- 1:07:59kind of thing. Today was a double header.
- 1:08:02So he's caught the second game. So like it's just rare stuff
- 1:08:05like that. But it's just cool to see, man,
- 1:08:08cool to see that's it's pretty insane.
- 1:08:11And I I just love those stories, guys that understand what it's
- 1:08:18it's this close to being real world life.
- 1:08:22You see that Brandon Marsh interview with him in in.
- 1:08:25I saw, I saw his name. What happened?
- 1:08:27He's in the minor league uniform and he's just like, you know,
- 1:08:29like, hey, man, it's been tough. But like, I'm blessed.
- 1:08:32I'm blessed to still be here. Dude, never, never would have
- 1:08:35thought I was playing ball until 27.
- 1:08:36Like, you know, it's, it's an incredibly humble response and
- 1:08:43it's very easy when we get so caught up with, with big
- 1:08:46leaguers or professional athletes in general that feel so
- 1:08:50entitled. So it's just, it's cool to see
- 1:08:53stories like this and to hear sound bites like Brandon Marsh
- 1:08:56and I, it's, I think stuff we should shed light on.
- 1:09:01I love it. Yeah.
- 1:09:05Anything else for to get this week underway?
- 1:09:09I'm going to go eat some dinner. So that's it.
- 1:09:10That's all I got. Kind of same honestly.
- 1:09:13It's like almost midnight here. Tough, tough.
- 1:09:18I got I got one for you. Last thing, what you got I heard
- 1:09:22this not it's super non baseball related.
- 1:09:25Could be could be slightly baseball related depending on
- 1:09:28your answer. But I heard this question and I
- 1:09:31was like, this is a great KC question here.
- 1:09:36Do you remember a few episodes ago we were talking about?
- 1:09:38Sorry, before I forget, remind me to update you on the MLBTV
- 1:09:42commercial thing before we. OK, OK, OK, what do you got?
- 1:09:45What do you got? Do you remember we were talking
- 1:09:47a couple episodes ago about like our our punch most punchable
- 1:09:49faces, yes, in baseball, right. If we want to like take a tick
- 1:09:54back from the violence and just say.
- 1:09:56Especially on the Lord's day, just.
- 1:09:59Say if there was like a minor inconvenience that you could
- 1:10:03give an enemy, what would that minor inconvenience be?
- 1:10:09And I have an answer, but let me know if you have one or if you
- 1:10:12want to hear mine. And I was thinking about it
- 1:10:15yesterday. Well, you've, you've let this
- 1:10:18marinate, so let me hear yours because I'm, I'm are you saying
- 1:10:21just like like this could apply to anybody that you're kind of
- 1:10:24like not a fan of in the league? Yeah, like, OK, maybe we take a
- 1:10:28step back from, you know, them being super punchable and just
- 1:10:31be like, I want to give you the most minor inconvenience, You
- 1:10:36know what I mean? I've got kind of a relevant one
- 1:10:38from this weekend, but please hit me.
- 1:10:40Well, OK, yeah, I'll start it. So you'll probably come up with
- 1:10:43a better one. I tell you what, I I think
- 1:10:47you're right. I think we, I think we step back
- 1:10:49from the most punchable face and and take this minor
- 1:10:51inconvenience route. I hope.
- 1:10:56Who do you have a name too? Well, remind me.
- 1:10:58I was. I was just going to ask you.
- 1:10:59Remind me who was on my list. Well.
- 1:11:02I mean the, you know, the typical names.
- 1:11:03You had a rod on your list. A rod, but there was like some
- 1:11:06current day guys though. I mean, I said, I said, I said
- 1:11:11Robbie Ray. Sure.
- 1:11:14Sure. There was somebody else.
- 1:11:18It was the one that just clicked, that just clicked.
- 1:11:21Who was it? Oh my goodness.
- 1:11:23We're. Going to think around the league
- 1:11:26a little bit. Who is the guy?
- 1:11:28Is he a met? Sorry.
- 1:11:32I didn't say Tommy another. Shots fired.
- 1:11:36I didn't say. Shots.
- 1:11:38Fired. I didn't say Tommy Pham.
- 1:11:40Who did I say was it? It wasn't Pete Alonso.
- 1:11:45No. Anyway, whoever it was the the
- 1:11:51guys that I I like least around the league, I hope that anytime
- 1:11:54you go to the beach as I did this weekend that it's upwards
- 1:12:01of 2025 mile an hour winds because there is nothing worse
- 1:12:06than going to the I I let me let me preface this by saying I
- 1:12:10thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed this weekend.
- 1:12:13It was great. And you're not expecting like
- 1:12:15you're not expecting 90 in in sunshine when you go in in
- 1:12:19April. But we go because we got the dog
- 1:12:20and the weather's still great. The wind, though, I don't know
- 1:12:24if you've been on a beach when it's like it's the when the
- 1:12:26wind's kicking up, yeah, it feels like you're getting
- 1:12:29stabbed and shot and pelted all at once.
- 1:12:33Yeah, 'cause you're not wearing layers when you.
- 1:12:35Go to the correct. Feels like you're a lot of
- 1:12:38exposed. Skin that's just getting not fun
- 1:12:40hammered. That's that's my.
- 1:12:42That's my timely, relevant minor inconvenience.
- 1:12:46So every time they go, it's windy.
- 1:12:49This is the one I thought of yesterday.
- 1:12:56Every whatever enemy, I don't care.
- 1:12:59We could say I'm going to give it to Jose Siri, to be honest
- 1:13:05with you. And not because, not because
- 1:13:08he's a MET, just I've always disliked him.
- 1:13:11Jose, Siri, you know when you're opening a Chick-fil-A sauce
- 1:13:17packet and only half of the tab rips open versus the whole lid
- 1:13:22ripping open? Yes, every every sauce packet
- 1:13:26that I would say Siri opens up. I hate.
- 1:13:30It half ripped. So much I just about every,
- 1:13:34every sauce container I've opened, I throw away with half
- 1:13:38of the sauce still in it because I'm like, it's not worth, it's
- 1:13:40not worth the effort. Get my thumb up in that sauce to
- 1:13:44take the rest off. No, I'm not.
- 1:13:46I'm absolutely not doing that. Yeah, well, we, I was crushing
- 1:13:49some chicken minis yesterday morning, So and every
- 1:13:53Chick-fil-A sauce that I was opening up, it was halfway.
- 1:13:55And I was like, this is the most inconvenient thing, Bang light
- 1:13:59bulb. So maybe that should be a
- 1:14:02running segment. Minor inconveniences.
- 1:14:08I would really like to remember who that guy was that clicked
- 1:14:15most punchable face. I cannot think of it for the
- 1:14:18life of me. I thought Robbie Ray was
- 1:14:20definitely a oh, it was Stroman, it was Marcus Stroman.
- 1:14:27It was Marcus Stroman. Yeah, yeah, Marcus Stroman.
- 1:14:30I hope when you hit the beach early this year because you're
- 1:14:35not playing post season baseball, I hope.
- 1:14:39I hope. He's not playing because he's
- 1:14:41not going to be a Yankee Perfect.
- 1:14:42I get what you're saying. Either or, I hope.
- 1:14:47I hope you're looking at upwards of 45 mile an hour winds.
- 1:14:52I don't know how minor that is, but I'll take it.
- 1:14:54It's a good answer all right. Oh last thing, update on the.
- 1:14:59MLBTV Curve You got a new one. All right, no.
- 1:15:02So I think I'm, I'm, I'm starting like a little bit of a
- 1:15:06conspiracy here. I think Major League Baseball
- 1:15:10television as its former, as it's formally and properly
- 1:15:16known, has bugged my home. Because literally since the day
- 1:15:25I told you that the only commercial that I saw focused on
- 1:15:32a team on MLBTV, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of California,
- 1:15:42I have seen. Every other team.
- 1:15:46Every other, I kid you not, I don't see, I have not seen other
- 1:15:50commercials for like products, for businesses, for brands.
- 1:15:54I only see commercials for players and teams.
- 1:15:58Now they're like, you know what, We're not even going to try to
- 1:16:00sell you anything. We're just going to let you know
- 1:16:03that we're not as high on the angels as you thought.
- 1:16:08And if you think that's me walking back my take, it's it's
- 1:16:11absolutely not. I think that there's something
- 1:16:13going on though. I think they.
- 1:16:14We're all in our own little matrix of they MLBTV
- 1:16:19commercials. They turned the dial or
- 1:16:21something and they said, you know what we're going to, we're
- 1:16:24going to let him know what's what.
- 1:16:25Did you ever did you ever see lost the show?
- 1:16:30And I regret ever seen that show like the numbers, like yeah, it
- 1:16:35just, there's just a guy in the controller.
- 1:16:38Room. That's it.
- 1:16:40Controlling the commercials just focused on the numbers the whole
- 1:16:45time. That's it, they said.
- 1:16:47They said, oh, this guy, this guy's on to us.
- 1:16:50Pump pump him with some giant stuff.
- 1:16:53He's in the bunker just oh, that's so.
- 1:16:57Good, which last thing I'll say on that like I as much as I
- 1:17:01hated them only showing me one team, it's equally as bad, if
- 1:17:06not worse that they show me every team now, because it's
- 1:17:09like you can't genuinely believe that every all 30 teams are this
- 1:17:14sneaky dark horse team like some of these teams.
- 1:17:17Like I'm waiting for the Rockies promo.
- 1:17:21I'm I'm waiting for the Rockies promo because how you going to
- 1:17:24how you going to incorporate that MLBTV?
- 1:17:26Very true. Well, test your artistic talents
- 1:17:30and abilities with that one anyway.
- 1:17:32OK, that's all I had. I'm out.
- 1:17:36Go go buy some Chinook seeds. Other than that, don't go
- 1:17:41chasing curveballs. We love you all and as always,
- 1:17:43looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:17:45Until next time, stay filthy.
